- 0:00SPEAKER_06: Test, test, test.
- 0:01unknown: He gets a call.
- 0:01unknown: So we're working on the case.
- 0:02SPEAKER_06: Test, test, test, test, test, test, test.
- 0:06SPEAKER_06: Test test test.
- 0:08SPEAKER_02: All kind of shit starts going down.
- 0:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 0:10SPEAKER_02: There's 70,000 people supposed to be out there, but yet there are still up there.
- 0:15SPEAKER_02: There are other people, there are other people before whatever.
- 0:18SPEAKER_02: Anyway, he gets a call and he's responding to this girl.
- 0:21SPEAKER_02: I can't remember what it was, stomach pain or um uh heartburn, like angina, uh, you know, any whatever.
- 0:28SPEAKER_02: And but it's so bad that she can't leave that her RV.
- 0:31SPEAKER_02: And so he's like, okay, well, I gotta go check because for women, heart attack symptoms display very differently than men, right?
- 0:37SPEAKER_02: So he's like, okay, so they go and they respond.
- 0:39SPEAKER_02: I mean, they're gonna respond anyway.
- 0:41SPEAKER_02: But he gets there and he's like, ma'am, what's the date of your last period?
- 0:47SPEAKER_02: And she's like, What the hell are you talking about?
- 0:49SPEAKER_02: I got heartburn.
- 0:50SPEAKER_02: He's like, ma'am, your uterus is contracting right now.
- 0:53SPEAKER_02: You're having a baby, and she's dead ass.
- 0:57SPEAKER_02: I'm not pregnant.
- 0:59SPEAKER_05: And he's like, that was a symptom when I had heart.
- 1:01SPEAKER_05: Remember when I'm gonna be able to do it?
- 1:02SPEAKER_02: Ma'am, I don't know what to tell you.
- 1:04SPEAKER_02: I thought I was hungry, but I'm a licensed paramedic in a few states, and I'm gonna tell you that your uterus right now, see that?
- 1:12SPEAKER_02: When it, yeah, that's not a stomach pain, that's your entire uterus contracting.
- 1:16SPEAKER_02: That's when it gets real hard like that.
- 1:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you're having a baby.
- 1:20SPEAKER_02: So um, he calls it in.
- 1:24SPEAKER_02: He's like, dude, we have a fucking baby being born.
- 1:26SPEAKER_02: Imagine being born a burning man.
- 1:28SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 1:28SPEAKER_02: There's never been a baby born a burning man.
- 1:30SPEAKER_02: I don't think.
- 1:30SPEAKER_02: So I'm pretty sure this is the first baby being born out there.
- 1:33SPEAKER_03: Did was she earset?
- 1:35SPEAKER_03: And is that why she didn't know she was pregnant?
- 1:38SPEAKER_02: Or I mean, I I I don't know.
- 1:41SPEAKER_02: I never saw her.
- 1:42SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:42SPEAKER_02: Um Denise, yes, she was not a small woman, okay, but he she wasn't extraordinarily large either.
- 1:50SPEAKER_02: Because you're at Burning Man, like you're in the desert.
- 1:52SPEAKER_02: You you usually these are outdoor people.
- 1:54SPEAKER_02: We're living out on the land.
- 1:56SPEAKER_02: Like it's not it's not for the faint of heart or the weak or people that can't stand being dirty.
- 2:01SPEAKER_02: So he calls it in and he's like, We have a fucking L and D.
- 2:07SPEAKER_02: Who do we have on staff that's L and D, labor and delivery, right?
- 2:10SPEAKER_02: He's like, What the heck?
- 2:11SPEAKER_02: You know, so he's calling back to the to the hospital, which is like, you know, on the other side of the camp.
- 2:15SPEAKER_02: And so they're like, hey, we have an Obi-Gin.
- 2:17SPEAKER_02: He's on call.
- 2:18SPEAKER_02: Let me call him.
- 2:18SPEAKER_02: You know, we're gonna have find him and find out where he is and send him.
- 2:21SPEAKER_02: And so he's dealing with the lady, da-da-da-da-da, whatever.
- 2:24SPEAKER_02: Meanwhile, the fucking RV door flies open.
- 2:28SPEAKER_02: And a six foot two naked guy with a uh leopard thong on comes in the RV.
- 2:35SPEAKER_02: And then he's like, sir, I'm sorry, but this is a medical emergency.
- 2:38SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna have to ask you to take your party outside right now.
- 2:41SPEAKER_02: Like, you know, I need to take care.
- 2:42SPEAKER_02: And he's like, brother, I'm your relief.
- 2:47SPEAKER_02: So this is the Obi-Jin.
- 2:49SPEAKER_02: He's in a leopard print thong.
- 2:51SPEAKER_02: Because he was on call.
- 2:52unknown: All kinds, all kinds.
- 2:53SPEAKER_02: And he was out in the rave partying.
- 2:55SPEAKER_02: And then they were like, Abra, we need you, like actually right now.
- 3:00SPEAKER_02: So yeah, he had to go.
- 3:01SPEAKER_02: So does that help?
- 3:02unknown: It does help.
- 3:03SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 3:04SPEAKER_02: So you could catch him on the bottom.
- 3:05SPEAKER_02: So imagine catching that I want to look at is the point.
- 3:13unknown: And I bet he was thinking, thank you.
- 3:15SPEAKER_02: You look everywhere.
- 3:16SPEAKER_02: It's the first time I yeah.
- 3:18SPEAKER_02: What'd you say?
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: I said I bet he was thinking, thank God I picked my conservative outfit too.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, right?
- 3:23SPEAKER_02: No shit.
- 3:24SPEAKER_02: Who knows?
- 3:25SPEAKER_02: I mean, he, yeah, he he just came in and took over.
- 3:28SPEAKER_02: He was like, he was like, okay, here you go, brother.
- 3:30SPEAKER_02: Have it this one's for you.
- 3:32SPEAKER_02: And he's like, I'm out.
- 3:33SPEAKER_02: I'm your relief.
- 3:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 3:35SPEAKER_02: He's like, brother, I'm your relief.
- 3:37SPEAKER_03: I'm the OBG story.
- 3:38SPEAKER_03: Like he said, Oh shit.
- 3:40SPEAKER_03: All right, come on.
- 3:41SPEAKER_03: Here you go.
- 3:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you were born, you were the first baby born at Burning Man, and the man in a leopard print thong delivered you at the back of my RV.
- 3:49SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 3:50SPEAKER_03: That's iconic.
- 3:51SPEAKER_02: This is how hippies are born, you know?
- 3:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's all.
- 3:56SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 3:57SPEAKER_02: It's just how hippies are born.
- 3:58SPEAKER_02: That's all.
- 3:59SPEAKER_02: It's funny.
- 4:00SPEAKER_02: It's good though.
- 4:04SPEAKER_03: Wow, that's actually thunder.
- 4:06SPEAKER_03: It was lightning last night.
- 4:08SPEAKER_03: I like it.
- 4:08SPEAKER_03: Is it coming?
- 4:09SPEAKER_03: Oh, it's coming.
- 4:10SPEAKER_03: You can look at the sky.
- 4:11SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's water.
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: I felt like it was coming.
- 4:13SPEAKER_03: Oh, well, I hope the rain pushes the humidity out a bit.
- 5:50SPEAKER_02: Okay, I know that you know we said you start there.
- 5:59SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 6:00SPEAKER_06: So basically what happened was um Mia and I have a podcast together called How Yoga Changed My Life.
- 6:08SPEAKER_06: That's where we started.
- 6:10SPEAKER_06: Then um, Brian died, and I didn't want to interview people for how yoga changed my life.
- 6:16SPEAKER_06: I was just like, fuck everybody right now, right?
- 6:19SPEAKER_06: So instead, I was like, gotta figure out a way to kind of process this grief.
- 6:23SPEAKER_06: And if I'm going through this shit, I know other people are.
- 6:26SPEAKER_06: Same time she's getting diagnosed with breast cancer.
- 6:28SPEAKER_06: So I'm like, no, let's do this.
- 6:30SPEAKER_06: We didn't plan for this.
- 6:31SPEAKER_06: That's the podcast.
- 6:32SPEAKER_06: Like everybody has a moment in their life that they don't plan for, and what the fucked up moment could be and how you handled it, how you got through it.
- 6:41SPEAKER_06: And then yoga could be a coping skill for some people, right?
- 6:44SPEAKER_06: And then I kept thinking, I'm like, well, we're we're not showing yoga, but meditation is what got me through.
- 6:50SPEAKER_06: If I didn't have meditation, I couldn't move for like three weeks after he died.
- 6:54SPEAKER_06: So it was like for me, the only thing I could do was sit and be still and quiet, which was very hard for me, but not at the time.
- 7:03SPEAKER_06: Um, so what happened then is started doing we didn't plan for this.
- 7:08SPEAKER_06: Then started thinking, well, people that might not listen to the yoga.
- 7:13SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I couldn't remember when I started it.
- 7:15SPEAKER_06: Was it February?
- 7:16SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 7:16SPEAKER_06: So I was like, all right, well, I want to do in case of emergency press play.
- 7:22SPEAKER_06: So I did these meditations that are quick, five to ten minutes, trying to get them shorter so that you can kind of have a moment before you go into work or before you go into the house, right?
- 7:33SPEAKER_06: And kind of clear your energy out.
- 7:35SPEAKER_06: And we built this podcast for four years.
- 7:38SPEAKER_06: We're in our fourth season and we have 31,000 followers, and we have, you know, we're in 129 countries.
- 7:43SPEAKER_06: Like, are you fucking kidding me?
- 7:45SPEAKER_06: Like, it's so weird.
- 7:46SPEAKER_06: But we're tiny, we're still a tiny little podcast.
- 7:49SPEAKER_06: And all I've said is just organic growth.
- 7:51SPEAKER_06: I don't advertise anywhere, I don't pay for advertising, I don't do a good job advertising.
- 7:56SPEAKER_06: So it's basically like if you come on the show and you want to share it, then that's how we share it.
- 8:02SPEAKER_06: So, um, so Mia basically was like, hey, I just want to do how you're gonna change my life and keep it on the RSS feed that it's on.
- 8:09SPEAKER_06: I'm gonna make it easy.
- 8:11SPEAKER_06: I'm gonna move everything over and start a new RSS feed with a logo that's we didn't plan for this, with in case of emergency, and with people be peopleing.
- 8:19SPEAKER_06: It makes more sense.
- 8:21SPEAKER_06: It's going to be classified for people to find it.
- 8:24SPEAKER_06: So it's more on the mental health and personal stories, you know, that kind of thing.
- 8:29unknown: Lifestyle.
- 8:29SPEAKER_06: Yeah, lifestyle, health, you know, but not um just yoga, but not yoga or not health and fitness.
- 8:35SPEAKER_06: It's not fitness, you know.
- 8:37SPEAKER_06: So what and that literally happened this past weekend.
- 8:43SPEAKER_06: No, was it when did I do it?
- 8:45SPEAKER_06: It must have been this past weekend.
- 8:49SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 8:52SPEAKER_06: Hi.
- 9:00SPEAKER_06: Hi.
- 9:01SPEAKER_06: We're just doing a podcast.
- 9:02SPEAKER_06: Oh, okay.
- 9:03SPEAKER_06: But you can be a part of it.
- 9:04SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that'll be your thing.
- 9:05SPEAKER_06: Oh yeah.
- 9:06unknown: That'll be your thing.
- 9:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 9:09SPEAKER_03: I think it's very much like we're so physical with people and we're in their personal space and we're touching their head nonstop for hours on end.
- 9:18SPEAKER_03: There is an energy transfer that's there.
- 9:20SPEAKER_03: People feel okay, well, you're all up in my space, and my hair is my protection.
- 9:25SPEAKER_03: So now I'm gonna spill all the T to you about the most traumatic things in my life.
- 9:30SPEAKER_03: And it's like, ooh, I need to call my therapist after today's appointment.
- 9:35SPEAKER_06: Well, you know what's so crazy is that I was talking, I just came from my therapist, and he and I were talking about transference because he has the same problem.
- 9:43SPEAKER_06: And I said, I because I said, hey, I'm going after this.
- 9:46SPEAKER_06: This is what the podcast is coming out to be, and it's kind of a risk.
- 9:51SPEAKER_06: All of the archived episodes are on the platform still for how you could change my life.
- 9:56SPEAKER_06: And so Nora had the brilliant idea of every week we just take a we didn't plan for this, and then in case of emergency, and drop it into the new feed.
- 10:09SPEAKER_06: Welcome to We Didn't Plan for This, a podcast about what happens when life doesn't go according to plan.
- 10:16SPEAKER_06: And all the what the fuck moments nobody planned for.
- 10:19SPEAKER_06: I'm Nora.
- 10:20SPEAKER_06: I'm Adrian.
- 10:22SPEAKER_06: And we are live in the hair salon.
- 10:25SPEAKER_06: So for men, you have your barber shop.
- 10:28SPEAKER_06: Women, we have our hair salon.
- 10:30SPEAKER_06: We are actually in Bernie, Texas at Brilliant Gems.
- 10:33SPEAKER_06: I've got some of the most amazing hairstylists in the world here with me.
- 10:37SPEAKER_06: I've got Crystal, I've got Emma, I got Amber, and Nora's here.
- 10:42SPEAKER_06: She's getting her hair pink for Burning Man.
- 10:44SPEAKER_06: And you guys heard Amber's episode last week.
- 10:48SPEAKER_06: And so we wanted to release a people be peopling episode.
- 10:52SPEAKER_06: Because just as you guys know, Nora and I have discussed many times about what y'all say to us when you're being people and you're in the gym and you confess all your sins to us and tell us all your crazy stories.
- 11:04SPEAKER_06: So what I wanted to do was get some of their answers to some of our burning questions about what a hairstylist hears in the salon.
- 11:13SPEAKER_06: And Emma, you started to talk about kind of when you first became a hairstylist and kind of knowing that you're gonna be around people, but what was it first like for you?
- 11:24SPEAKER_03: It was really hard.
- 11:25SPEAKER_03: So I'm a very extroverted introvert.
- 11:28SPEAKER_03: I will avoid people at all cost if I can, but I somehow find myself in professions where I am constantly dealing with the masses.
- 11:37SPEAKER_03: Um it was learning how to cleanse myself when I got to work, got home, got to school.
- 11:47SPEAKER_03: Because there are a lot of things we hear and attitudes we deal with that, you know, if you if you let that stick with you, you will become very jaded and just hateful.
- 12:05SPEAKER_03: And I did not want to do that.
- 12:06SPEAKER_03: I was leaving Cosmos school feeling drained every single day.
- 12:10SPEAKER_03: And I was like, yo, I need to find a way to meditate and not let everything affect me so personally.
- 12:17SPEAKER_03: Right?
- 12:18SPEAKER_06: You're attaching their hair, you're cutting their hair, you're massaging their scalp, you're doing work on their head, and you're trying to instill a little softness, you're also trying to make them feel beautiful.
- 12:29SPEAKER_06: Yes, right?
- 12:30SPEAKER_06: So that's a really like our job isn't to make people look beautiful.
- 12:35SPEAKER_02: We want them to feel beautiful, yeah, or just feel better than they did when they showed up that day.
- 12:40SPEAKER_02: Exactly, exactly.
- 12:41SPEAKER_06: But that doesn't apply for the creepy people though.
- 12:43SPEAKER_02: Well, no, not so much.
- 12:45SPEAKER_02: That doesn't apply for the creepy.
- 12:46SPEAKER_02: Thank you very much.
- 12:47SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 12:47SPEAKER_06: We couldn't exactly say in a creepy voice.
- 12:52SPEAKER_06: Yeah, but there's serious, but like you don't you can take on good energy, you can take on bad energy, and you guys know it too.
- 12:58SPEAKER_06: Like when you were a kid and like your parents were fighting or something was going on with somebody and you walked in the room and it was like this energy, you could feel it.
- 13:06SPEAKER_06: So I want to talk about that energy and some of the shit that you guys hear because I know you have all the dirt about all the people.
- 13:14SPEAKER_06: So I sent you guys a list of questions, and I I'm not gonna pick.
- 13:19SPEAKER_06: I figured if you saw a question that was like, oh yes.
- 13:22SPEAKER_06: Oh, we have an answer for all of them.
- 13:23SPEAKER_06: Oh, good.
- 13:24SPEAKER_06: Oh, okay, good, good, good.
- 13:25SPEAKER_06: Okay, good, okay, good.
- 13:26SPEAKER_06: Hold on.
- 13:26SPEAKER_06: Let me get oh, I'm so excited.
- 13:28SPEAKER_06: Okay, I get sad.
- 13:30SPEAKER_06: Okay, ready?
- 13:31SPEAKER_06: So, first question.
- 13:33SPEAKER_06: Shit, I just lost it again.
- 13:34SPEAKER_06: All right, there we go.
- 13:36SPEAKER_06: All right, first question is what's the wildest thing a client has ever said while sitting in your chair?
- 13:44SPEAKER_02: And deliberation.
- 13:46SPEAKER_02: Crystal has a best story on this.
- 13:48SPEAKER_05: Who goes first?
- 13:49SPEAKER_05: Do the fucking I one.
- 13:51SPEAKER_05: Do the I one do the I one.
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: I didn't want to share this because honestly, it has traumatized me.
- 13:58SPEAKER_01: And I don't want to further traumatize the rest of the world, but apparently this is the wildest thing any of us have heard, so I will share it.
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: Okay, so when I very first started doing hair, I think for me it was a huge learning curve on um what like how much of a safe space to give to people.
- 14:17SPEAKER_01: And I think initially I was just, you know, so excited to have somebody in my chair that I was just welcoming it all in.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: Well, I had this one guest that I would do her hair, and her husband was a very famous heart surgeon in the town I'm from.
- 14:32unknown: Okay.
- 14:33SPEAKER_01: And she shared with me that he fantasized, oh gosh.
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: No, I really do have to share it.
- 14:40SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 14:40SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, yes, you do.
- 14:43SPEAKER_06: This, and mind you, this is like how many times have you seen her?
- 14:47SPEAKER_06: Oh, a lot.
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: A lot.
- 14:49SPEAKER_01: This is like a like a long time.
- 14:51SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay.
- 14:51SPEAKER_01: So at this salon, I did all services.
- 14:53SPEAKER_01: I did manicures, pedicures, facials, I'm unshockable, and this shocked me.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: I am unshockable.
- 14:59SPEAKER_01: It's it's pretty disturbing.
- 15:02SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 15:02SPEAKER_01: Pretty disturbing, and but you know, so 20 years later, I haven't forgotten it, right?
- 15:06SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 15:06SPEAKER_01: Well, so like would he drop her off?
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: Oh, I never have seen him.
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: I know of him because he's very famous.
- 15:14SPEAKER_01: Like he travels all over the world to teach this one special procedure that he does, and so he's like a very sought-after doctor.
- 15:22SPEAKER_01: And if I drop the name, people might actually know him, but I don't even remember the name, thank God.
- 15:26SPEAKER_01: So, um, anyway, she proceeded to share with me.
- 15:30SPEAKER_01: Well, she asked me if she thought that this was normal or a little strange.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: And you know, I think again, it's it's the thing about how guests feel very vulnerable when we're in close proximity.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: So they share a lot.
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: People share a lot.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: I really share.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: I'm scared.
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: So one of the things she asked me, I know I'm scared too.
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: I'm like so hesitant to share this.
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: Okay, I'll just say it.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: Rip the band-aid off, rip it off.
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: So she goes, So I have something to ask you, and I don't know like if this is strange or not, and I just kind of want to, you know, bounce this off somebody.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: And I was like, sure, what's going on?
- 16:07SPEAKER_01: She was like, My husband told me that he wants to take my eyeball out and do me in my eye socket.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: What the fuck?
- 16:13SPEAKER_01: What the fuck?
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: And I was like, What?
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: Oh, does she have a fake eye?
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: Interesting.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: No, there's just a fake eye.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: Something he and I guess fantasized about and then proceeded to share that he also hold on a second.
- 16:27SPEAKER_01: Did you just say he wants to fuck her eye socket?
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: That's what you just said.
- 16:31SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: I told her it was literally a skull fuck.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: That is literally a skull fuck.
- 16:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I didn't even know this was a thing.
- 16:38SPEAKER_01: What the fuck?
- 16:39SPEAKER_03: It's not.
- 16:40SPEAKER_03: Oh.
- 16:40SPEAKER_03: He needed some serious psychological.
- 16:42SPEAKER_03: I didn't know there was a name.
- 16:43SPEAKER_03: I didn't know.
- 16:44SPEAKER_03: I mean, no, but she just thought that it is like when you're getting when you're giving a man a blowjob and he grabs your head and then aggressively starts thrusting into you.
- 16:52SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 16:53SPEAKER_06: Literally.
- 16:55SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 16:56SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 16:56SPEAKER_06: That is a skull.
- 16:57SPEAKER_06: That's an orbital fuck.
- 16:59SPEAKER_06: An orbital fuck.
- 17:00unknown: Holy shit.
- 17:00SPEAKER_06: Wait, is that a thing?
- 17:02SPEAKER_06: Seriously?
- 17:02SPEAKER_06: I don't know.
- 17:03SPEAKER_06: I mean, I realized everywhere.
- 17:05SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 17:06SPEAKER_06: They just want to put it everywhere.
- 17:08SPEAKER_06: They just want to put it in every fucking orifice they can find.
- 17:12SPEAKER_06: She shared a lot of things about his fantasies.
- 17:16unknown: That's not the only thing.
- 17:17SPEAKER_06: Oh my god.
- 17:18SPEAKER_06: Wait, so she was sharing fantasies.
- 17:21SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 17:22SPEAKER_06: That her husband was having about fucking her orbital socket.
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:26SPEAKER_01: And he also uh fantasized about doing people that had no limbs.
- 17:31SPEAKER_01: So like no arms.
- 17:32SPEAKER_01: Like chicken nutty legs.
- 17:33SPEAKER_06: Like mat?
- 17:34SPEAKER_06: Like a mat?
- 17:35SPEAKER_06: Like a bath mat?
- 17:36SPEAKER_01: Like a person?
- 17:37SPEAKER_01: Oh that's.
- 17:38SPEAKER_01: Isn't that the joke?
- 17:40SPEAKER_01: Oh, I don't know.
- 17:42SPEAKER_06: You know that joke?
- 17:43unknown: No.
- 17:44SPEAKER_06: What do you call a guy with no arms and no legs?
- 17:46unknown: Useless.
- 17:47SPEAKER_06: A mat?
- 17:48SPEAKER_05: Never heard that.
- 17:49SPEAKER_05: Oh my god.
- 17:50SPEAKER_05: Never had that heard that.
- 17:51SPEAKER_06: No, it's like, what do they call?
- 17:52SPEAKER_06: What do they call a man with no arms and no legs that you hang on the wall?
- 18:00unknown: No.
- 18:00SPEAKER_06: No.
- 18:01SPEAKER_04: I swear to God, I don't even care about anything else anymore.
- 18:04SPEAKER_04: That's great to get my hair done.
- 18:07SPEAKER_03: I mean, like.
- 18:08SPEAKER_03: Did wait, did she leave him or is she still with him?
- 18:10SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 18:10SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 18:11SPEAKER_06: So wait, so he wants to fuck people without limbs.
- 18:15SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 18:15SPEAKER_06: And fuck her in the eyeball.
- 18:16SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 18:17SPEAKER_06: Socket.
- 18:18SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 18:19SPEAKER_01: She was like, do you think that's normal or do you think that's strange?
- 18:22SPEAKER_01: What did you say?
- 18:23SPEAKER_01: I was just like, that's interesting.
- 18:25SPEAKER_01: I didn't want her.
- 18:27SPEAKER_05: I didn't want to leave her the coldest girl in the room.
- 18:29SPEAKER_05: The calmest girl in the room.
- 18:30SPEAKER_01: Well, I was gonna say, yeah, I could tell.
- 18:32SPEAKER_06: I would have been like, you would have freaked.
- 18:36SPEAKER_01: That's interesting.
- 18:37SPEAKER_01: That's very interesting.
- 18:38SPEAKER_01: I don't know that one.
- 18:40SPEAKER_06: Exactly.
- 18:41SPEAKER_06: Uh yeah.
- 18:43SPEAKER_06: Whoa.
- 18:43SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 18:44SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 18:44SPEAKER_06: Search question.
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: First question is a wait.
- 18:48SPEAKER_06: How long did this go on?
- 18:49SPEAKER_06: Like, did you then, did you like?
- 18:51SPEAKER_06: I mean, you just said it, right?
- 18:52SPEAKER_06: Like, hey, where's the boundary?
- 18:54SPEAKER_06: Like, you know, eyeball fucking, eye socket fucking is definitely on the other side of the boundary.
- 19:01SPEAKER_02: I just, that's not just on the other side.
- 19:03SPEAKER_02: That's a hot skip and a fucking jump across the line electorate.
- 19:07SPEAKER_02: That's not, you're not tiptoeing.
- 19:09SPEAKER_02: There's no, eh, I'm testing the limits.
- 19:11SPEAKER_02: No, you're fucking all the way down there, head first.
- 19:14SPEAKER_06: Eyeball fucker.
- 19:15SPEAKER_06: Oh my god.
- 19:16SPEAKER_01: I've started disengage in situations like that.
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: I'm really like the Homer Simpson meme where he just fades into the ditches.
- 19:26SPEAKER_06: At least I wish I was.
- 19:27SPEAKER_06: I would just turn that, I would just turn the blow dryer on.
- 19:30SPEAKER_06: I guess that is the one weapon of your choice yet.
- 19:32SPEAKER_06: I'm like, yeah.
- 19:33SPEAKER_06: Oh, blow drying your hair, but you're still cutting.
- 19:36SPEAKER_06: Yep, gotta blow this first.
- 19:38SPEAKER_06: Disengage, disengage.
- 19:40SPEAKER_06: James is not your name.
- 19:42SPEAKER_06: That is so freaking awful.
- 19:44SPEAKER_06: Okay, that's rough.
- 19:47SPEAKER_06: All right.
- 19:48SPEAKER_02: That was now I'm nervous.
- 19:51SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 19:51SPEAKER_06: All right.
- 19:52SPEAKER_06: What's the most unforgettable transformation you've ever witnessed?
- 19:57SPEAKER_01: No, no minglingo again.
- 20:00SPEAKER_05: We did a makeover on somebody that had no teeth and a beard, and Crystal called it from pirate to princess makeover.
- 20:08SPEAKER_05: Oh I know.
- 20:10SPEAKER_01: I don't think that was ever gonna be shaken.
- 20:11SPEAKER_05: And she had a man, and we didn't.
- 20:13SPEAKER_05: She had a man.
- 20:14SPEAKER_03: It's because she ain't got no teeth.
- 20:17SPEAKER_03: It's the doctor.
- 20:19SPEAKER_06: He's fucking her mouth.
- 20:21SPEAKER_06: It probably is a doctor.
- 20:23SPEAKER_06: Close to the eye socket.
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: No offense to doctors.
- 20:26SPEAKER_06: No, no.
- 20:27SPEAKER_06: We need the doctors.
- 20:28SPEAKER_06: Some of them we need.
- 20:29SPEAKER_06: We don't need all of them.
- 20:30SPEAKER_06: We don't need all of them.
- 20:31SPEAKER_06: I don't know why.
- 20:32SPEAKER_06: Why am I having so much trouble?
- 20:33SPEAKER_06: I don't know.
- 20:34SPEAKER_06: That was definitely Emma's my wing woman today.
- 20:36SPEAKER_06: All right.
- 20:37SPEAKER_06: What is the craziest client request you've ever received?
- 20:41SPEAKER_01: For me, it's all these cartoon images and other AI images that are just the anime.
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: They defy gravity.
- 20:48SPEAKER_03: I swear to God, if anybody else comes in with an anime haircut and then it's like, I don't style my hair.
- 20:55SPEAKER_03: I will not do anything with my hair, but I want this cut.
- 20:58SPEAKER_03: And the hair's literally defying physics.
- 21:01SPEAKER_03: Get out of here.
- 21:02SPEAKER_03: Get out of here.
- 21:03SPEAKER_03: Your hair naturally does not sit in an angle like a ski slope.
- 21:09SPEAKER_03: That's not how it works.
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: Triangles, little points.
- 21:11SPEAKER_03: I'm like, so what do you like about triangle haircut?
- 21:14SPEAKER_03: Like the triangle haircut.
- 21:15SPEAKER_03: There was a little kid who asked for, I just want triangles in my haircut.
- 21:22SPEAKER_03: And we're like, what do you mean?
- 21:24SPEAKER_03: What do you mean you just want triangles in your haircut?
- 21:28SPEAKER_03: And she's like, Triangles.
- 21:29SPEAKER_03: I want triangles.
- 21:31SPEAKER_03: Will not elaborate.
- 21:32SPEAKER_03: Mom's not really elaborating either.
- 21:35SPEAKER_03: She's sitting there like, yeah, cut triangles into her hair.
- 21:38SPEAKER_03: Are you fucking kidding me?
- 21:39SPEAKER_03: The mom was just like, do this triangle shit to me.
- 21:42SPEAKER_03: Oh my gosh, the amount of probably six or less.
- 21:45SPEAKER_05: Oh.
- 21:45SPEAKER_05: And the mom did I do triangles.
- 21:47SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah.
- 21:48SPEAKER_05: I took out the edgers and we got triangles.
- 21:50SPEAKER_05: I'll look at the head.
- 21:52SPEAKER_06: Oh yeah.
- 21:53SPEAKER_06: That is bizarre.
- 21:55SPEAKER_06: That's bizarre.
- 21:56SPEAKER_06: That is very bizarre.
- 21:57SPEAKER_06: Oh, really?
- 21:58SPEAKER_06: Really?
- 21:59SPEAKER_06: Triangle.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: Ooh, or the Will Byers Bowl Cut.
- 22:03SPEAKER_03: That's what that's when is that the stranger should be a little bit more?
- 22:05SPEAKER_06: Why is everybody my clients that we're talking about?
- 22:10SPEAKER_06: Hey, because you attract crazy.
- 22:12SPEAKER_06: That's what happens.
- 22:14SPEAKER_06: That's what happens.
- 22:15SPEAKER_06: Crazy has style.
- 22:16SPEAKER_06: Yeah, crazy has style.
- 22:19SPEAKER_05: Crazy is fun.
- 22:20SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 22:21SPEAKER_06: Crazy is what we attract, and that is what we will always accept.
- 22:24SPEAKER_06: Alright, what is something?
- 22:25SPEAKER_06: Well, what's something clients do that every hairstylist secretly laughs about?
- 22:30SPEAKER_03: Lifts their head up as they're getting shampooed, trying to help you, but it really doesn't.
- 22:36SPEAKER_03: You're just gonna get your back soaked.
- 22:38SPEAKER_03: And if we want to lift your head to get the color or soap underneath your neck, we will lift it for you and hold it up for you.
- 22:47SPEAKER_03: Please stop running away from the hose in the shampoo bowl.
- 22:50SPEAKER_03: You're just gonna get soaking wet.
- 22:53SPEAKER_01: That's a good one.
- 22:54SPEAKER_03: That is a good one.
- 22:54SPEAKER_01: That's a good one.
- 22:55SPEAKER_06: Well, I always feel badly because it's like the ears.
- 22:58SPEAKER_06: Like I've I've had, I've I've been going to the same girl for years to get my hair done.
- 23:03SPEAKER_06: And she's had like a couple assistants over the years, right?
- 23:06SPEAKER_06: And a couple of them you could just tell they're just terrified.
- 23:09SPEAKER_06: You can feel like you know you're gonna get shit in your ears.
- 23:13SPEAKER_06: You're gonna get water in your ears.
- 23:14SPEAKER_06: And I always feel so badly because I'm just like, it doesn't really matter, it's just water, you know, but the fear on their eyes of like, how do I feel like I'm getting the angle, the fucking angle that you guys have to make with your hands to cup the neck, to cup the neck and to cup your ear, and a cup around the top of your ear, and then get the water to slide down the right way.
- 23:35SPEAKER_01: That's why in our mentorship program, like you have to go through several rounds of shampoo.
- 23:39SPEAKER_06: You gotta shampoo every one multiple times.
- 23:43SPEAKER_06: Okay, so I was listening to a podcast the other day, and they were talking.
- 23:47SPEAKER_06: Is anybody in here an esthetician like doing like wax or hair or anything like that?
- 23:51SPEAKER_06: Or wax hair removal?
- 23:53SPEAKER_03: I have done it in the past waxing before.
- 23:56SPEAKER_06: So like what just say it.
- 24:02SPEAKER_01: She can't even.
- 24:03SPEAKER_01: Girl, we've seen it all.
- 24:04SPEAKER_01: Heard it all.
- 24:04SPEAKER_01: Well, that's it all.
- 24:05SPEAKER_06: Okay, so like when you go and you're learning how to give a Brazilian to somebody, uh-huh.
- 24:10SPEAKER_03: Fully expose yourself to the rule is the turf.
- 24:14SPEAKER_03: So I've I almost volunteered for my Cosmos school back when I was there.
- 24:18SPEAKER_03: They came into the class, and they're like, hey, who wants a free bikini wax?
- 24:24SPEAKER_03: And I was like, man, you know, I've gotten Brazilians.
- 24:27SPEAKER_03: I'll do this.
- 24:28SPEAKER_03: And then they took me back into the room, and it was a room full of 27 men and women, and they told me to strip down, take my pants off, get on the table, and sit froggy style with my legs all the way apart, expose my whole punani to everyone and their mama.
- 24:47SPEAKER_03: And I did not do it.
- 24:48SPEAKER_03: I walked into that room, I was like, Man, I'm okay if like five people see my vagina, but 27 men and women staring there.
- 24:58SPEAKER_03: Oh no, thank you.
- 24:59SPEAKER_06: Well, that's what they were talking about.
- 25:00SPEAKER_05: It's like you have to go through and the pose that you have to hold when doing it, it literally, it's like it's like a butterfly.
- 25:08SPEAKER_05: You spread open.
- 25:09SPEAKER_03: And everyone's taking turns.
- 25:12SPEAKER_03: Well, I'm the taking turns, so it's like slow and painful, and you start sweating from your ass.
- 25:19SPEAKER_03: It's bad.
- 25:20SPEAKER_03: But like you, so I heard that you it's happy baby.
- 25:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 25:25SPEAKER_02: You lay there, hold happy baby, let them do what they need to get their diaper changed.
- 25:29SPEAKER_02: Cat cow.
- 25:30SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 25:31SPEAKER_06: And then cat cow.
- 25:32SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 25:32SPEAKER_05: Well, and so they were talking about 20 people, like, has that many people even seen the badge as it is?
- 25:38SPEAKER_03: I mean, that's what I'm saying.
- 25:40SPEAKER_03: Last time that many people saw my vagina was the day I was born, and I came out of my mama.
- 25:45SPEAKER_03: That's the last time a room full of people have seen my coochie.
- 25:49SPEAKER_06: But that's the thing, is like, I'm like, if you have 27 people in the room looking at one vagina, like you gotta get in there.
- 25:56SPEAKER_06: All in there.
- 25:57SPEAKER_06: You gotta get in there close.
- 25:58SPEAKER_06: Are they just like moving in like a circle?
- 26:00SPEAKER_06: Like a condo line in my circle.
- 26:03SPEAKER_03: It's a crescent moon around the bed.
- 26:06SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 26:07SPEAKER_03: And the they even the best part, I sat there while my girlfriend got hers done, and she's like, hey girl, stay in here with me because I'm so terrified.
- 26:17SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 26:17SPEAKER_03: So I'm sitting there holding her hand as they're waxing her vagina.
- 26:20SPEAKER_03: Oh.
- 26:20SPEAKER_03: And when I tell y'all, they had cameras out recording because they needed to take notes.
- 26:26SPEAKER_03: They need to take notes, they need to learn, they need to look back.
- 26:29SPEAKER_03: So it's 27 people in a room.
- 26:32SPEAKER_03: You are laying in happy baby, having your whole vagina and butthole exposed to the world, and there are phones in your crotch taking pictures and videos so that they can go back and watch it later.
- 26:44SPEAKER_03: And I just was not okay with my vagina being on random phones.
- 26:49SPEAKER_02: Somebody's gonna lie, there's no vagina in our job.
- 26:52SPEAKER_02: I know, God, okay.
- 26:53SPEAKER_02: Let me just say that.
- 26:54SPEAKER_02: No, I thank God.
- 26:55SPEAKER_01: Thank God we're not pelvic floor specialists.
- 26:57SPEAKER_01: Thank God camera phones didn't exist when I had to do that poor shit.
- 26:59SPEAKER_01: Seriously.
- 27:00SPEAKER_01: Poor Emma.
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: I mean, my heart goes out to you.
- 27:03SPEAKER_00: Seriously.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: That is awful.
- 27:05SPEAKER_01: And in in my school, it was you had to you had to do one to get the signature, but to do one, you also had to get one.
- 27:12SPEAKER_01: That's what I heard too.
- 27:12SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 27:13SPEAKER_01: So you you had to do one.
- 27:14SPEAKER_06: Give one room.
- 27:16SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 27:17SPEAKER_06: I mean, I can't do you.
- 27:18SPEAKER_06: And then exactly.
- 27:19SPEAKER_06: I mean, I would find the less creepiest person in the room be like, girl, I got you.
- 27:25SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah.
- 27:26SPEAKER_05: I mean, you gotta find the fastest, the fastest one in the room.
- 27:29SPEAKER_05: That's letter read.
- 27:30SPEAKER_05: I would find the most butch lesbian there because you know she's gonna be in and out.
- 27:33SPEAKER_05: You know she knows how to handle it.
- 27:35SPEAKER_05: She knows how to get the job done.
- 27:36SPEAKER_05: Just read that real quick.
- 27:38SPEAKER_05: Everybody will be looking.
- 27:40SPEAKER_05: She's like this, not my coach.
- 27:41SPEAKER_05: She knows the game.
- 27:42SPEAKER_05: I got you.
- 27:44SPEAKER_05: No, ain't you related at all?
- 27:46SPEAKER_06: That is that is fucking terrifying.
- 27:48SPEAKER_06: Put me in, coach.
- 27:49SPEAKER_06: All right, so we did that one.
- 27:51SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 27:52SPEAKER_06: What's a salon moment you you'll still be talking about when you're 80?
- 27:59SPEAKER_03: This was about three years ago.
- 28:02SPEAKER_03: I am in the shop doing a haircut, and the girl across from me.
- 28:09SPEAKER_04: She already knows.
- 28:12SPEAKER_03: Wait, should I tell that one?
- 28:14SPEAKER_03: The one you're thinking?
- 28:15SPEAKER_03: I was gonna tell a different one.
- 28:16SPEAKER_03: Oh, I think you should tell the one I'm gonna do.
- 28:18SPEAKER_03: Okay, okay, scratch that, y'all.
- 28:20SPEAKER_03: So I was a baby hairstylist, not even fully licensed yet, and I was assisting under Miss Amber Segovia, and she was doing a full highlight on a guest, and she's like, Hey girl, take her to the back, shampoo her out, and tone her.
- 28:38SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, Okay, baby stylist, right?
- 28:41SPEAKER_03: Already a little anxious about shampooing, like we talked about earlier.
- 28:45SPEAKER_03: So I take her back and she has AirPods in, and she is on her phone the entire time.
- 28:50SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, Hey ma'am, would you mind taking your AirPods out so I can shampoo you?
- 28:54SPEAKER_03: And she goes, No, I have full faith in you.
- 28:56SPEAKER_03: You you'll be able to do it.
- 28:57SPEAKER_03: So now I'm even more stressed because I'm worrying about not getting her airpod.
- 29:01SPEAKER_03: You're like, I gotta get the cup right on my arm around the airpod.
- 29:05SPEAKER_03: This unfortunately was when we had the salon shampoo bowls that I had to stand directly behind.
- 29:12SPEAKER_03: And so if you're laying in the shampoo bowl and you are on your phone, like it or not, I can see every single thing that's on your phone.
- 29:21SPEAKER_03: And I'm I'll admit it, I'm nosy as hell.
- 29:24SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 29:25SPEAKER_03: I'm so nosy.
- 29:26SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 29:26SPEAKER_02: Was that the place that you used to be before here?
- 29:29SPEAKER_03: Before the first one, though.
- 29:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, no, no.
- 29:32SPEAKER_03: The first spot.
- 29:33SPEAKER_03: The second one across from Cain.
- 29:34SPEAKER_02: I was like, you shampooed me at both of those places, so I'm like, I know where you're talking about.
- 29:38SPEAKER_06: So you're like this.
- 29:40SPEAKER_06: Oh yeah.
- 29:42SPEAKER_06: Oh yeah.
- 29:42SPEAKER_06: You're basically like standing behind them and they're showing you their phone.
- 29:47SPEAKER_03: Yes, and she's laying there.
- 29:49SPEAKER_03: And instead of trying to be sneaky with her phone, like some guests are, some are like trying to hide their screen from us as we're shampooing them.
- 29:56SPEAKER_03: She was laying there with her phone head back like this and her phone like this, so I could see everything.
- 30:03SPEAKER_03: And her brightness was all the way up.
- 30:06SPEAKER_03: This woman, everything.
- 30:08SPEAKER_03: Everything.
- 30:10SPEAKER_03: This woman, it was a 9 a.m.
- 30:12SPEAKER_03: full foil.
- 30:13SPEAKER_03: It's no later than 9 30.
- 30:15SPEAKER_03: And she is laying in that fucking chair, sexting her man, and I'm talking, I saw her whole vagina, her boobs, her butt, his penis, and the reason why she didn't want to take the AirPods out, she was on call with him.
- 30:32SPEAKER_03: Wait, so she was just listening to him as she's sexting to him as she's getting her hair shampooed by me.
- 30:41SPEAKER_03: So I'm doing a scalp massage as she's clearly bricked up in the chair, all horned up.
- 30:48SPEAKER_03: Oh, bricked up.
- 30:51SPEAKER_03: So violated.
- 30:52SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 30:53SPEAKER_03: Like, I know you're turned on right now, and I have to give you a massage.
- 30:58SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 30:58SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 30:59SPEAKER_03: It was I just be like slapping her head.
- 31:02SPEAKER_03: Bear in mind.
- 31:04SPEAKER_03: Bear in mind.
- 31:07SPEAKER_03: Two weeks, two weeks into working for Amber, and this is what I get.
- 31:12SPEAKER_03: And she leaves, we do the blowout, and I look at Amber after and I'm like, Amber, she I saw her whole vagina.
- 31:19SPEAKER_03: And she's like, What are you talking about?
- 31:21SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, she was back there sexting her man the entire time.
- 31:25SPEAKER_03: I saw his penis, I saw her vagina, and Amber's first question was Did you see her boobs?
- 31:31SPEAKER_03: Because are they real or fake?
- 31:33SPEAKER_03: She had got the boob job, and let me tell y'all, she got her money for the boob job.
- 31:39SPEAKER_04: What about the movies?
- 31:40SPEAKER_04: Are they real or fake?
- 31:41SPEAKER_03: Because I really think they're fake.
- 31:42SPEAKER_03: The way they were sitting, the way they're real.
- 31:45SPEAKER_03: I know she's had two kids.
- 31:46SPEAKER_03: They don't sit like that.
- 31:47SPEAKER_03: No, they don't.
- 31:48SPEAKER_03: I knew it.
- 31:49SPEAKER_06: No, they don't define gravity, that's for sure.
- 31:52SPEAKER_03: No.
- 31:52SPEAKER_03: I wasn't even concerned about anything else.
- 31:54SPEAKER_03: So like multi-gravity.
- 31:56SPEAKER_06: That bitch was multi-masking.
- 31:58SPEAKER_06: Multitasking.
- 31:59SPEAKER_06: She was multitasking.
- 32:00SPEAKER_03: Also switching through on, she was like sexting him in her text, and then after she would send a sext, she would then open her work email and respond to work emails.
- 32:11SPEAKER_03: So this girl was like truly multitasking.
- 32:15SPEAKER_03: But 9:30 in the morning.
- 32:17SPEAKER_06: 9.30 in the morning.
- 32:18SPEAKER_06: Bricked up.
- 32:19SPEAKER_06: What bitch has time for that shit?
- 32:21SPEAKER_05: I feel like that's a teenage boy thing.
- 32:22SPEAKER_05: Bricked up is so gross.
- 32:24SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 32:25SPEAKER_05: Like that's what goes with the orbital.
- 32:26SPEAKER_05: Like Bricked up and Orbital need to be off our legs.
- 32:30SPEAKER_05: We're so sick out right now.
- 32:32SPEAKER_06: By the way, there is a there is an innocent bystander in the room with us.
- 32:37SPEAKER_06: We feel horrible for her.
- 32:38SPEAKER_06: She's getting her hair cut right now.
- 32:42SPEAKER_06: Okay, good.
- 32:43SPEAKER_06: Hopefully she leaves you a good Google review.
- 32:48SPEAKER_06: All reviews are appreciated.
- 32:50SPEAKER_06: Exactly.
- 32:51SPEAKER_06: Great review, subscribe.
- 32:53SPEAKER_06: Okay, what's the funniest haircut disaster you've ever had to fix?
- 32:58SPEAKER_03: Well, I mean, it it's me?
- 33:01SPEAKER_03: No.
- 33:01SPEAKER_03: Oh, thank God.
- 33:02SPEAKER_03: Okay, go ahead.
- 33:03SPEAKER_03: Oh, next! Oh yes, it is.
- 33:06SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 33:07SPEAKER_03: It is.
- 33:08SPEAKER_03: Okay, it is.
- 33:09SPEAKER_03: So go ahead.
- 33:10SPEAKER_03: This was about a year ago.
- 33:12SPEAKER_03: I come into work and Crystal is standing there and she's she's doing her guest hair, and I'm like, hey Crystal.
- 33:19SPEAKER_03: Let's talk about how happy she was.
- 33:21SPEAKER_03: She was so happy.
- 33:24SPEAKER_01: You could tell me nothing.
- 33:26SPEAKER_03: Nothing filled with joy.
- 33:27SPEAKER_03: Filled with joy.
- 33:29SPEAKER_03: And I come in and I'm like, hey girl.
- 33:31SPEAKER_03: And she's like, hey girl.
- 33:33SPEAKER_03: And I go to the back and I put my purse down and I come around and she is now standing with her back to me.
- 33:38SPEAKER_03: And I look at her and I go, ooh, she cut your hair.
- 33:42SPEAKER_03: And she's like, yeah, you like it.
- 33:44SPEAKER_03: Why?
- 33:45SPEAKER_03: You like it?
- 33:46SPEAKER_03: Her hair looked like a coconut.
- 33:50SPEAKER_03: She had gone to trim her back hairline up with clippers by herself.
- 33:55SPEAKER_01: Like a real short clip.
- 33:56SPEAKER_03: Stacked bob.
- 33:57SPEAKER_03: Like mine.
- 33:58SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 33:59SPEAKER_03: And she went to trim it up and cut line, line, line.
- 34:04SPEAKER_03: I have pictures to prove it.
- 34:06SPEAKER_06: Did you not know you did that?
- 34:08SPEAKER_01: Did you know?
- 34:08SPEAKER_01: I thought it looked great.
- 34:09SPEAKER_01: She thought it looked amazing.
- 34:11SPEAKER_06: Because you couldn't see it.
- 34:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 34:13SPEAKER_03: And it was like it felt like it aligned.
- 34:16SPEAKER_01: It felt good.
- 34:17SPEAKER_03: It was very rough.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: It felt nice.
- 34:19SPEAKER_01: It was rough.
- 34:20SPEAKER_03: It was how she was just like bad bitch.
- 34:24SPEAKER_07: Oh yeah.
- 34:24SPEAKER_07: Bad bitch energy.
- 34:26SPEAKER_03: Bad bitch energy.
- 34:27SPEAKER_04: Bubble boo, but bad bitch only on one side.
- 34:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so I then took a picture of the back of her head and I was like, you want to see what it looks like?
- 34:37SPEAKER_03: She's like, yeah.
- 34:38SPEAKER_03: So I show her and she's like, oh my god.
- 34:42SPEAKER_01: Well, can you fix it?
- 34:44SPEAKER_01: Hold on.
- 34:44SPEAKER_01: Explain the picture because this is the best part of the story.
- 34:47SPEAKER_01: Well, I was gonna get to Okay, okay.
- 34:49unknown: Okay.
- 34:50SPEAKER_03: So she's like, can you fix it?
- 34:54SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, oh shoot, girl, I don't know.
- 34:58SPEAKER_03: And she's like, no, just go in, go in and do it.
- 35:00SPEAKER_03: You can do this.
- 35:01SPEAKER_03: Do what you gotta do.
- 35:02SPEAKER_06: So I'm gonna.
- 35:02SPEAKER_03: You're like, have faith in you.
- 35:04SPEAKER_03: Trying to fix her hair, and I'm taking it shorter and shorter and shorter to try to make it blend.
- 35:10SPEAKER_03: And I'm getting to a point where I'm like, Crystal, I don't know what the fuck I can do.
- 35:14SPEAKER_03: I don't think I can do this.
- 35:15SPEAKER_03: Is an Amber problem.
- 35:17SPEAKER_03: This is a problem.
- 35:19SPEAKER_03: This, y'all need the master stylist.
- 35:21SPEAKER_03: Wait till tomorrow.
- 35:22SPEAKER_03: Amber can fix it for you.
- 35:24SPEAKER_03: And she's like, okay.
- 35:26SPEAKER_03: So then I took a picture of the back of her head, the original one.
- 35:31SPEAKER_03: And what we did was we were feeling a little bitchy.
- 35:35SPEAKER_03: So we photoshopped her head out and then put the pictures of just her haircut into a palm tree.
- 35:44SPEAKER_03: And I showed her a picture of a palm tree that had all these beautiful coconuts in it.
- 35:48SPEAKER_03: And I was like, Do you like this picture?
- 35:50SPEAKER_03: And she's like, Yeah.
- 35:51SPEAKER_03: I was like, oh cute, yeah, like a little coconut tree.
- 35:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 35:54SPEAKER_01: There was like little clusters of them throughout the room.
- 35:56SPEAKER_01: Zoom in on the coconuts.
- 35:57SPEAKER_01: Zoom in on those coconuts.
- 35:59SPEAKER_01: And I was like, no.
- 36:02unknown: No.
- 36:03SPEAKER_01: We turned the coconut.
- 36:05SPEAKER_01: But it looked just like a coconut picture.
- 36:08SPEAKER_01: I do.
- 36:08SPEAKER_06: I think I send it to us.
- 36:10SPEAKER_06: We need that picture.
- 36:10SPEAKER_06: It's going on.
- 36:11SPEAKER_06: I think I did.
- 36:12SPEAKER_06: It's actually pretty much epic.
- 36:14SPEAKER_06: That's fucking hilarious.
- 36:15SPEAKER_01: I did it to myself.
- 36:19SPEAKER_01: I was going through a moment, okay?
- 36:21SPEAKER_01: Let's go in through a moment.
- 36:22SPEAKER_04: After that, what are the questions we ask ourselves?
- 36:24SPEAKER_04: What's a rough year?
- 36:28SPEAKER_05: She was given a list of questions that she has to have.
- 36:31SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah.
- 36:31SPEAKER_05: She's not allowed to do this if she's upset, if she's really excited.
- 36:36SPEAKER_05: If she's overwhelmed, call Amber.
- 36:39SPEAKER_03: Allow to cut her up.
- 36:39SPEAKER_03: Correct.
- 36:40SPEAKER_05: Not allowed to cut her down.
- 36:41SPEAKER_05: Top of the list.
- 36:42SPEAKER_05: Shop of the list.
- 36:43SPEAKER_03: Since I did you dirty, it's only right that somebody does me dirty with the bang story.
- 36:48SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 36:49SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 36:49SPEAKER_03: We have a bang story.
- 36:50SPEAKER_06: Oh, I love bang stories.
- 36:52SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 36:53SPEAKER_03: I think that's one of our questions.
- 36:54SPEAKER_03: I believe this is going to be passed on to Amber to expose me and my deepest, darkest secrets.
- 37:00SPEAKER_05: So Emma was working and I came into the shop and she goes, hey.
- 37:07SPEAKER_05: And I go, hey, what the fuck happened to your hair?
- 37:11SPEAKER_06: Because of course.
- 37:12SPEAKER_06: And she goes on Amber.
- 37:14SPEAKER_06: She's very, very humble.
- 37:15SPEAKER_06: She doesn't like tell it like it is at all.
- 37:18SPEAKER_05: I uh she goes, Will somebody else cut them?
- 37:20SPEAKER_05: Can you fix it?
- 37:21SPEAKER_05: And I said, fix what?
- 37:22SPEAKER_05: They're an inch long.
- 37:23SPEAKER_05: Like there is nothing for me to fix.
- 37:25SPEAKER_05: It's like Meothero.
- 37:27SPEAKER_05: They were baby mini.
- 37:29SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 37:30SPEAKER_05: Like micro.
- 37:31SPEAKER_05: And I love Emma, but her forehead with those bangs look like a football field.
- 37:36SPEAKER_05: Those bangs were dumb.
- 37:37SPEAKER_05: I already have a giant forehead.
- 37:38SPEAKER_03: So the bangs.
- 37:39SPEAKER_03: The forehead does not look that big.
- 37:41SPEAKER_03: As Gage Holmes in my seventh grade math class told me.
- 37:46SPEAKER_06: Oh, oh my God, it's like the little girl Wednesday.
- 37:48SPEAKER_03: That girl, you could land a bowing 747 on that hairline.
- 37:54SPEAKER_03: And it was very true.
- 37:56SPEAKER_03: It looked like uh somebody took a piece of glass and just started cutting my hair.
- 38:00SPEAKER_06: Oh my god.
- 38:01SPEAKER_03: I looked like the weird Barbie from the Barbie movie.
- 38:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 38:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 38:07SPEAKER_04: Oh my gosh.
- 38:09SPEAKER_04: She was my favorite Barbie movie.
- 38:10SPEAKER_04: I'm sure we have pictures of those two.
- 38:12SPEAKER_04: Oh, we do.
- 38:13SPEAKER_04: Oh my god.
- 38:13SPEAKER_06: We do.
- 38:14SPEAKER_06: Oh my god.
- 38:15SPEAKER_06: We're gonna have to go to video from now on then.
- 38:18SPEAKER_06: So we can show all the pictures.
- 38:20SPEAKER_06: All right.
- 38:21SPEAKER_06: Wait, let's see.
- 38:22SPEAKER_06: Wait, I got another bang story.
- 38:24SPEAKER_06: Oh, yes.
- 38:24SPEAKER_06: Bangs.
- 38:25SPEAKER_06: Go.
- 38:25SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 38:26SPEAKER_05: So I had a client who'd been asking me for bangs for probably two years, and I kept saying, no.
- 38:31SPEAKER_05: No.
- 38:32SPEAKER_05: No.
- 38:33SPEAKER_05: No.
- 38:34SPEAKER_05: No.
- 38:35SPEAKER_05: No.
- 38:36SPEAKER_05: No.
- 38:36SPEAKER_05: And finally she's like, I want what I want.
- 38:38SPEAKER_05: I said, fine.
- 38:39SPEAKER_05: I cut them that right that second.
- 38:41SPEAKER_05: She spent two hours in the mirror saying, What did you do?
- 38:44SPEAKER_05: I can't leave.
- 38:45SPEAKER_05: I just kept working on other customers, and finally I was like, You gots to go.
- 38:48SPEAKER_05: Boom.
- 38:48SPEAKER_05: You wanted bangs.
- 38:49SPEAKER_05: Now go out with the bangs.
- 38:52SPEAKER_05: And after that, she sends me memes.
- 38:54SPEAKER_05: When you're mad, don't cut bangs.
- 38:56SPEAKER_05: When you're sad, don't cut bangs.
- 38:57SPEAKER_05: When you're drinking, don't cut bangs.
- 38:59SPEAKER_05: Amber, don't ever give me bangs.
- 39:01SPEAKER_06: I'm like, I won't.
- 39:02unknown: I won't.
- 39:03SPEAKER_06: Like I said.
- 39:04SPEAKER_06: You know what though?
- 39:05SPEAKER_06: I remember the one time that a hairstylist told me, I've never had my hair long, ever.
- 39:10SPEAKER_06: Because I had one lady at one point in my life say, Your hair is too fine.
- 39:14SPEAKER_06: It won't look good long.
- 39:16SPEAKER_06: So just don't even bother growing it long.
- 39:18SPEAKER_06: And so I never grew my hair long, ever.
- 39:20SPEAKER_06: And I think she's right.
- 39:22SPEAKER_06: Like I'm kind of like, it probably saved me a lot of bang time, too.
- 39:28SPEAKER_01: Thank God.
- 39:29SPEAKER_01: Out here saying lives.
- 39:30SPEAKER_06: Exactly.
- 39:31SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 39:32SPEAKER_06: Um, what is the biggest misconception that clients have about hair?
- 39:37SPEAKER_03: That even if I do every step-for-step process that's in the video or picture that they're showing for inspiration, your hair, regardless, will never look exactly like the inspiration picture because nine times out of ten, they have extensions in.
- 39:57SPEAKER_03: Nine times out of ten, the photo has been edited to look brighter, to look softer, to be more blended.
- 40:05SPEAKER_03: And it's a very common misconception that even if I say I can do what's done to the head of hair in that picture, that does not mean you are going to look like the woman in the picture.
- 40:17SPEAKER_03: And unfortunately, a lot of women look at these pictures and they're like, oh my gosh, I love that haircut.
- 40:25SPEAKER_03: And you have to cover the face.
- 40:27SPEAKER_03: We will hold the phone and we will put our thumbs over the faces of the hair models.
- 40:32SPEAKER_03: And we are like, okay, well, what do you like about this haircut?
- 40:35SPEAKER_03: And they're like, Oh, well, I don't really know.
- 40:38SPEAKER_03: You like how pretty the model is.
- 40:40SPEAKER_03: That's crazy.
- 40:42SPEAKER_06: Like the cut.
- 40:43SPEAKER_06: That's crazy.
- 40:44SPEAKER_06: So, like, what about all of these new apps and AI things that can like you know, that make you like look different?
- 40:54SPEAKER_05: They can all go to hell.
- 40:55SPEAKER_05: Don't bring those pictures in here.
- 40:57SPEAKER_03: They don't look like you can't bring an AI picture of you in and expect that to be done because just like the other Inspo pics, it's editing you.
- 41:10SPEAKER_03: It shaved 10 years off of your face, took away your wrinkles, took away the smile lines, made your hair 10 times thicker.
- 41:19SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 41:20SPEAKER_03: I was gonna say it's like the glamour shots.
- 41:22SPEAKER_05: That's what it was.
- 41:23SPEAKER_03: The glamour shots are 100%.
- 41:26SPEAKER_05: The 2020.
- 41:28SPEAKER_06: The light behind your head.
- 41:29SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 41:30SPEAKER_06: Like looking like an angel.
- 41:34SPEAKER_01: One of my uh one misconception that I feel like should be a public service announcement is the fact that it used to, but the products were so strong that it was a good idea to come in with dirty hair because you did need a little bit of a barrier to protect your hair for products.
- 41:51SPEAKER_01: But now today, there's so many products with a new technology, they're so gentle, actually.
- 41:56SPEAKER_01: So by the time they can eat through your oils and your buildup and your scalp, they kind of weaken out.
- 42:02SPEAKER_01: So you don't get the full optimal result.
- 42:04SPEAKER_06: So we should wash our hair show up there.
- 42:06SPEAKER_01: My hair's like, my hair's nice and dirty for you.
- 42:08SPEAKER_01: I'm like, haven't washed it in four days, you know.
- 42:11SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's what we do.
- 42:12SPEAKER_06: No, I do that.
- 42:13SPEAKER_06: I'm guilty, had no idea.
- 42:15SPEAKER_01: Used to, that was a thing.
- 42:16SPEAKER_01: It was to be a thing.
- 42:18SPEAKER_01: I didn't know that.
- 42:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, products are just way too dangerous.
- 42:20SPEAKER_06: Damn, so sorry, Sarah.
- 42:21SPEAKER_06: No, I'll be better.
- 42:23SPEAKER_01: All right, that's what we're here for.
- 42:24SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 42:25SPEAKER_01: She did apologize for her.
- 42:27SPEAKER_06: I just apologize.
- 42:28SPEAKER_06: I just apologize.
- 42:29SPEAKER_06: What other misconceptions?
- 42:31SPEAKER_06: What other misconceptions do you think?
- 42:32SPEAKER_06: Like as far as like, okay, I picked this hairstyle.
- 42:35SPEAKER_06: You've agreed, and you said yes, Adrian, this is the right hairstyle for you.
- 42:39SPEAKER_06: We're gonna cut your hair to look like this.
- 42:41SPEAKER_06: You take all the time and and make me look beautiful in the chair.
- 42:45SPEAKER_06: I go home.
- 42:46SPEAKER_06: I can't fucking recreate that shit.
- 42:48SPEAKER_06: So, how do you handle that kind of shit?
- 42:51SPEAKER_01: I think it's important to definitely go over that stuff in a consultation before you even do the cut.
- 42:56SPEAKER_01: That's like when do you stylish your hair?
- 42:59SPEAKER_01: What tools do you have at home?
- 43:00SPEAKER_01: What tools are you comfortable using?
- 43:02SPEAKER_01: You know, things like that.
- 43:03SPEAKER_01: What does your lifestyle look like?
- 43:04SPEAKER_01: How often do you shampoo?
- 43:05SPEAKER_01: I mean, there's a lot that goes into deciding a look that works not just for you, but your time commitment, your beauty budget, your lifestyle.
- 43:11SPEAKER_01: True.
- 43:12SPEAKER_01: Because at the end of the day, we want you to always look good because then we always look good.
- 43:16SPEAKER_01: And word of mouth is the best form of advertisement.
- 43:18SPEAKER_01: That's a hundred percent.
- 43:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's a hundred percent true.
- 43:23SPEAKER_03: All right, um, I found the coconut tree.
- 43:26SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 43:27SPEAKER_01: Okay, let's show.
- 43:27SPEAKER_01: Let's show for context.
- 43:29SPEAKER_05: Show our customer too.
- 43:30SPEAKER_05: She needs the full coconut shirt.
- 43:32SPEAKER_01: It looks it looks like a coconut.
- 43:35SPEAKER_01: Like, undeniably.
- 43:36SPEAKER_01: It looks like um not Daphne, Verona.
- 43:40SPEAKER_06: What is oh Amber fixed it fixed it?
- 43:42SPEAKER_06: Velma.
- 43:43SPEAKER_06: It's Velma's Velma.
- 43:44SPEAKER_06: It's Velma's hair.
- 43:45SPEAKER_06: Oh, it's Velma's hair.
- 43:47SPEAKER_05: I do have the pictures pre-fixing.
- 43:50SPEAKER_05: Wait, we did do it for around Halloween time.
- 43:53SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that she was fucking Velma.
- 43:55SPEAKER_05: She already had that.
- 43:56SPEAKER_01: I forgot how bad it was.
- 43:57SPEAKER_06: Damn, that's really bad.
- 43:58SPEAKER_05: She never had that beer.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: And I always wanted a wedge.
- 44:02SPEAKER_01: And nobody would give me one.
- 44:03SPEAKER_01: So I was like, I'm gonna give myself one, damn it.
- 44:06unknown: Like she was a bad bitch.
- 44:08unknown: That's what it looked like.
- 44:08SPEAKER_01: I'm always wanted a wedge.
- 44:10SPEAKER_01: Do you cut your own hair like that very well?
- 44:13SPEAKER_07: Obviously.
- 44:15SPEAKER_03: After 40 minutes of trying to fix it, this is what we came up with before Amber came in.
- 44:22SPEAKER_03: She was able to come back.
- 44:23SPEAKER_03: No.
- 44:24SPEAKER_04: I love that red, yeah.
- 44:25SPEAKER_06: I know.
- 44:26SPEAKER_06: No.
- 44:26SPEAKER_06: Thank you.
- 44:27SPEAKER_06: That is that's a good that was a good win.
- 44:29SPEAKER_04: Very like a little Lord Parpar.
- 44:34SPEAKER_01: I saw Dorothy Hamill, but you know.
- 44:37SPEAKER_01: Dorothy Hamill.
- 44:38SPEAKER_01: Velma from Scooby-Doo for sure.
- 44:40SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 44:40SPEAKER_01: I've always wanted the Hamill.
- 44:42SPEAKER_04: Scooby-Doo for the costume, so she she looked right on.
- 44:45SPEAKER_06: Played the part.
- 44:46SPEAKER_01: Understood the assignment.
- 44:47SPEAKER_06: Oh, oh, okay, okay.
- 44:48SPEAKER_06: Um, what what's the funniest thing you've overheard in the salon?
- 44:55SPEAKER_01: Oh man, you try to block a lot of stuff out.
- 44:57SPEAKER_01: Let me go into the archives.
- 45:00SPEAKER_05: Women tell us way too much about their husband's penis, sex life, things like that.
- 45:05SPEAKER_05: Okay, but this is the worst picture I ever saw.
- 45:09SPEAKER_01: No current clients.
- 45:11SPEAKER_05: No current clients, but the day I died in like 2010.
- 45:16SPEAKER_05: I don't know, it was that long ago.
- 45:18SPEAKER_05: She um wanted to tell me that her extensions were lifting, and she wanted to show me a picture of it.
- 45:24SPEAKER_05: Well, I didn't know it was her giving a blowjob to the biggest dick I've ever seen in my life.
- 45:31SPEAKER_04: I swear to God, and she's like zeroing in on her hair extension, and all I could see was the damn dick, the mascara running down her face.
- 45:39SPEAKER_04: Like she was being gagged, and then I was like, I can't even focus.
- 45:42SPEAKER_04: Oh my god.
- 45:43SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 45:44SPEAKER_01: She's like, You see this piece running.
- 45:45SPEAKER_01: Even who it was.
- 45:50SPEAKER_06: You know the dick in the picture.
- 45:52SPEAKER_05: Because somebody that I knew worked for that person.
- 45:57SPEAKER_05: Oh.
- 45:58SPEAKER_05: So I could never see that person the same because that person does not look like he would have a third leg at all.
- 46:11SPEAKER_06: Wait, so how does this sex how does this how did the sex conversations come up?
- 46:16SPEAKER_06: Because like my I mean, like very easily, honestly.
- 46:18SPEAKER_01: Obviously, too easily.
- 46:20SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 46:21SPEAKER_06: Oh my god.
- 46:22SPEAKER_01: We learn a lot.
- 46:26SPEAKER_01: Minor incoming.
- 46:27SPEAKER_01: Minor incoming.
- 46:28SPEAKER_01: Minor incoming.
- 46:28SPEAKER_06: Okay, girl.
- 46:29SPEAKER_06: Hi.
- 46:29SPEAKER_06: Hi.
- 46:30SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 46:33SPEAKER_06: We can do it.
- 46:35SPEAKER_06: We can be good.
- 46:36SPEAKER_06: We can be really good.
- 46:38SPEAKER_06: We got this.
- 46:38SPEAKER_06: We got this.
- 46:39SPEAKER_06: All right.
- 46:40SPEAKER_06: So, okay, what's the weirdest inspiration photo a client has ever shown you?
- 46:45SPEAKER_03: I had a guest bring in a picture and it was not even hair.
- 46:54SPEAKER_03: It was a picture that she took at Mount Rainier of the wildflowers in bloom, and she said she wanted her hair that color.
- 47:02SPEAKER_03: When I tell you there are about 150 different colors in that freaking picture.
- 47:07SPEAKER_03: Did she want a rainbow?
- 47:09SPEAKER_03: She didn't know what she wanted.
- 47:11SPEAKER_03: She's like, Well, I just want my hair to look like this.
- 47:14SPEAKER_03: I want the colors in this in my hair.
- 47:16SPEAKER_03: The essence of it.
- 47:17SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, Jesus.
- 47:19SPEAKER_03: How the hell am I supposed to make your hair look like the wildflowers in bloom at Mount Rainier?
- 47:24SPEAKER_03: Like, I'm not a beautician, dude.
- 47:26SPEAKER_01: I'm a beautician.
- 47:27SPEAKER_01: I'm a beautician.
- 47:29SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 47:29SPEAKER_01: I say that a lot.
- 47:30SPEAKER_01: I'm a beautiful lot, too.
- 47:33SPEAKER_01: I'm a lot.
- 47:35SPEAKER_01: I would say mine is probably actually my son.
- 47:38SPEAKER_01: He brought in an Insta pick of the Lego Man character.
- 47:41SPEAKER_01: And I, you know, did the whole, well, what do you like about this photo?
- 47:44SPEAKER_01: And he said, this part right here, which was his side part.
- 47:47SPEAKER_01: He had a real deep side part.
- 47:49SPEAKER_01: He wanted that.
- 47:50SPEAKER_06: He wanted the side part.
- 47:51SPEAKER_01: All right, you got it, bud.
- 47:53SPEAKER_06: Oh my god.
- 47:54SPEAKER_01: I mean from a Lego man.
- 47:56SPEAKER_06: So, like, we're we're in a like, first of all, the most amazing little salon.
- 48:01SPEAKER_06: I love it so much in here.
- 48:02SPEAKER_06: The vibe is vibing.
- 48:03SPEAKER_06: It feels good, it feels homey.
- 48:05SPEAKER_06: It feels like you are at a beauty salon, you know?
- 48:08SPEAKER_06: And you're not at a hoity-toity bullshit place that's very staunch and like stuck up.
- 48:14SPEAKER_06: And, you know, it's like it's family, you know, it's friends.
- 48:18SPEAKER_06: So, like, if you're having a haircut with a woman that may be a little bit more cross-legged and proper and prim, and then you've got the other lady over there showing you pictures of those are always my clients.
- 48:32SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 48:33SPEAKER_05: My clients are the best.
- 48:34SPEAKER_05: My clients are the best.
- 48:35SPEAKER_05: There's no filter.
- 48:36SPEAKER_05: You usually attract the kind of clients you are.
- 48:38SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 48:39SPEAKER_05: Seriously.
- 48:39SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 48:40SPEAKER_05: That makes sense.
- 48:40SPEAKER_06: That makes sense.
- 48:41SPEAKER_01: So my clients are usually the ones sitting in the chair, like, uh-huh.
- 48:44SPEAKER_01: But then guess what?
- 48:46SPEAKER_01: When they pre-book their appointment, they're like, what day is Amber gonna be here?
- 48:49SPEAKER_01: Is Amber here that day?
- 48:51SPEAKER_01: Because they want to hear her.
- 48:52SPEAKER_01: They're here for the show.
- 48:53SPEAKER_01: They're here for the show.
- 48:54SPEAKER_06: That's awesome.
- 48:55SPEAKER_06: That's awesome.
- 48:56SPEAKER_01: So they come out of their shelves eventually.
- 48:59SPEAKER_06: That now, okay, so let me go.
- 49:01SPEAKER_01: We pull them out.
- 49:02SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I was gonna say.
- 49:04SPEAKER_06: I don't think that anybody's like, yeah.
- 49:06SPEAKER_06: I think if you are if you're a little bit shy, you're not coming in here.
- 49:13SPEAKER_06: It might take them a minute, but they'll open up.
- 49:15SPEAKER_06: That's good.
- 49:15SPEAKER_01: Eventually it could happen.
- 49:17SPEAKER_06: Okay, what about oh, okay, the daughter's gun, right?
- 49:21SPEAKER_06: All right, what's the most unexpected secret someone has confessed in your chair?
- 49:27SPEAKER_03: I had a woman back in Cosmos School who confessed to me that her husband had a scat fetish.
- 49:35SPEAKER_03: And any of y'all who don't know what a scat fetish is, is that like a wizard wap wap wap whatever it is?
- 49:40SPEAKER_03: Is when somebody receives sexual pleasure and gratification out of being defecated on.
- 49:49SPEAKER_07: Oh, oh that's what it's called.
- 49:52SPEAKER_03: Yes, literal.
- 49:55SPEAKER_03: So she's in by standard scorn.
- 49:59SPEAKER_03: She is she's gonna need therapy after this therapy.
- 50:03SPEAKER_03: She, I am a 19-year-old child in the salon doing the root touch up on this woman.
- 50:10SPEAKER_03: And she's like, first time, first time guest, too.
- 50:13SPEAKER_03: So first time guest.
- 50:15SPEAKER_03: I just met her 30 minutes ago, and she's like, Yeah, I don't know what to do.
- 50:20SPEAKER_03: I'm like, about what?
- 50:21SPEAKER_03: And she's like, my husband's kind of got this like scat fetish.
- 50:26SPEAKER_03: And so did you have to did you have to ask what scat was?
- 50:30SPEAKER_03: Unfortunately, already knew what a scat fetish was.
- 50:33SPEAKER_04: Um, you probably want to know why.
- 50:36SPEAKER_03: How did you already know that?
- 50:37SPEAKER_03: I don't have brothers.
- 50:39SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 50:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 50:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I grew up online.
- 50:42SPEAKER_03: I have brothers.
- 50:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 50:43SPEAKER_04: Um my kids are never online, they're adults.
- 50:47SPEAKER_03: They're adults, they're never going online again.
- 50:50SPEAKER_03: But she uh she then explains to me about how her and her husband were participating in some activities in the bedroom, and she had defecated on his chest post-surgery.
- 51:09SPEAKER_03: He had just had open heart surgery not even a month prior.
- 51:12SPEAKER_03: Wait, what?
- 51:13SPEAKER_03: His shoes on his scar?
- 51:15SPEAKER_03: Like on his on his scar.
- 51:17SPEAKER_03: Y'all, y'all.
- 51:18unknown: I'm thinking maybe.
- 51:19SPEAKER_03: Y'all.
- 51:21SPEAKER_03: He had to be hospitalized for six months because when she shit on his chest, she had something in her she gave him an infection.
- 51:32SPEAKER_03: It's bacteria.
- 51:33SPEAKER_03: And it's easy bacteria.
- 51:36SPEAKER_03: She pooped right on his sternum scar.
- 51:40SPEAKER_03: Cancel, cancel, cancel, cancel, accord mission, we're done.
- 51:43SPEAKER_03: Control alt delete.
- 51:44SPEAKER_03: Control alt delete.
- 51:47SPEAKER_03: He went septic and developed blood poisoning from it and had to be hospitalized in the ICU for six months.
- 51:54SPEAKER_03: And she was she confessed this the first time she's in your chair.
- 51:58SPEAKER_03: 45 minutes into me doing, I had just finished applying her root touch-up and we're sitting there talking.
- 52:03SPEAKER_03: I had to tell someone.
- 52:04SPEAKER_03: Try to get it off her chest.
- 52:06SPEAKER_07: Oh my god.
- 52:07unknown: Oh my god.
- 52:08SPEAKER_06: What about the doctor?
- 52:09SPEAKER_06: What about the doctor?
- 52:11SPEAKER_01: Like the doctor's like, what is people tell us more than they tell therapists.
- 52:15SPEAKER_05: Oh no.
- 52:16SPEAKER_05: We have holy water in the back.
- 52:17SPEAKER_05: Somebody would have been missed with holy water if they turned out here.
- 52:20SPEAKER_05: Like we should do here.
- 52:22SPEAKER_03: She full honest started tearing up and crying.
- 52:26SPEAKER_03: And I I'm 19 years old.
- 52:27SPEAKER_03: I've been doing this.
- 52:28SPEAKER_03: She's probably my fourth client that I have ever taken, ever.
- 52:35SPEAKER_03: And she's telling me about how she caused her husband to be in the hospital for six months.
- 52:40SPEAKER_03: And she's so broken up about it.
- 52:42SPEAKER_03: She doesn't know what to do.
- 52:44SPEAKER_03: And they're currently talking about potentially getting divorced.
- 52:56SPEAKER_03: But he was upset that it, you know, gave him an infection and that he had to be hospitalized.
- 53:01SPEAKER_06: He's the idiot.
- 53:02SPEAKER_06: He's the idiot.
- 53:02SPEAKER_03: And so she was confessing about how she just didn't know what to do because they were talking about getting a divorce and it was just weighing really heavy on her heart and on her mind.
- 53:13SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 53:13SPEAKER_03: And I was like, You're like, I'm 19.
- 53:15SPEAKER_03: Run.
- 53:16SPEAKER_04: Run.
- 53:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 53:20SPEAKER_06: That's when you want to be in Homer.
- 53:22SPEAKER_06: That's where you want to be Homer Simpson and disappear.
- 53:25SPEAKER_06: Disappear.
- 53:27SPEAKER_06: I'm in the wall.
- 53:28SPEAKER_06: I'm away.
- 53:29SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 53:30SPEAKER_06: Homer in the bushes.
- 53:32SPEAKER_03: It was a lot.
- 53:33SPEAKER_03: I went to my instructor after I was like, I need to go clean up my bowl.
- 53:37SPEAKER_03: And I went up to Miss Josie and I need to go take a silk wood shower.
- 53:42SPEAKER_03: Miss Josie, she just confessed to shitting on her husband's chest, and now he's in the hospital and she doesn't know what to do and I don't know what to do.
- 53:49SPEAKER_03: And she's like, girl, girl, this is miha, this is too much energy for me.
- 53:55SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, disengage.
- 53:57SPEAKER_03: I don't I don't know what to do, Miss Josie.
- 53:59SPEAKER_03: I don't know what to do.
- 54:00SPEAKER_03: And she's like, go back and have a conversation with her.
- 54:02SPEAKER_03: You know, you just gotta be open-minded and not judgmental.
- 54:06SPEAKER_03: We judging.
- 54:07SPEAKER_03: I was judging.
- 54:09SPEAKER_03: I was judging.
- 54:10SPEAKER_03: We're judging at this point.
- 54:12SPEAKER_06: But yeah, if you're shitting on your husband's chest, you're getting judged.
- 54:15SPEAKER_03: You're getting judged.
- 54:16SPEAKER_03: If you're openly admitting that you're shitting on your husband's chest, you're getting judged.
- 54:20SPEAKER_03: I don't care what y'all do in the bedroom.
- 54:23SPEAKER_03: Just don't tell me about it.
- 54:24SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 54:25SPEAKER_01: So, like, I'm not a very like way overshare.
- 54:29SPEAKER_01: What?
- 54:29SPEAKER_01: I mean, like overshare.
- 54:31SPEAKER_01: The overshare's eyes, we look at each other like, did you just hear that?
- 54:34SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 54:34SPEAKER_01: Mayday eyes.
- 54:36SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 54:36SPEAKER_01: Mayday eyes.
- 54:38SPEAKER_06: Oh my god, I love Mayday Eyes.
- 54:39SPEAKER_03: The poke is.
- 54:48SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 54:49SPEAKER_01: So anytime something uncanny says, poker, y'all.
- 54:52SPEAKER_01: I'm so good at poker.
- 54:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 54:55SPEAKER_03: No.
- 54:56SPEAKER_03: Way louder than my own.
- 54:58SPEAKER_03: You will know.
- 54:58SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 54:59SPEAKER_03: You will know I'm judging the.
- 55:00SPEAKER_03: Thank God I had turned this woman away from the mirror as I was applying her color because she's telling me that I'm just looking at the floor like.
- 55:07SPEAKER_03: Did she just say that?
- 55:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 55:09SPEAKER_06: I'd be like, oh my God.
- 55:10SPEAKER_06: Okay, wait.
- 55:11SPEAKER_01: There's usually going to be a group text about it later.
- 55:14SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 55:14SPEAKER_06: Wait, what's the name of the group chat?
- 55:17unknown: Yeah.
- 55:17SPEAKER_01: Does the group chat have a name about it in the salon in front of anybody?
- 55:21SPEAKER_01: But just know later we're going to process it amongst ourselves.
- 55:24SPEAKER_02: So this will make the group chat later.
- 55:26SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 55:27SPEAKER_06: Oh, okay.
- 55:28SPEAKER_06: What?
- 55:28SPEAKER_02: And we do have a group chat! I know.
- 55:30SPEAKER_06: I was gonna say, what is it called though?
- 55:33SPEAKER_06: Do you have a name for your group chat?
- 55:35SPEAKER_06: It's really boring.
- 55:35SPEAKER_06: It's just brilliant gems with like four emojis.
- 55:39SPEAKER_01: But we have the key.
- 55:39SPEAKER_01: It's like if you know, you know.
- 55:42SPEAKER_06: All right.
- 55:43SPEAKER_06: What's the biggest difference between what clients think happens behind the scenes and what actually happens?
- 55:50SPEAKER_05: My kids, when you ask them what I do at work, they say I just stand up and talk all day.
- 55:55SPEAKER_06: That is part of the job.
- 55:56SPEAKER_05: And you're but your kids are grown.
- 55:58SPEAKER_06: Your kids are grown.
- 55:59SPEAKER_03: My kids are grown.
- 56:00SPEAKER_03: Pains in my ass.
- 56:01SPEAKER_03: I think a lot of people think that we're just playing with hair all day, and oh, it's so easy.
- 56:06SPEAKER_03: They're just throwing color on and like they're just playing with hair.
- 56:10SPEAKER_03: It's Barbies all day long.
- 56:12SPEAKER_03: In reality, we are doing some serious chemistry, some serious color analysis because I have to mix a Veda, it is very interesting.
- 56:22SPEAKER_03: None of our colors come pre-mixed.
- 56:24SPEAKER_03: You have to mix every single formula so everything is custom to the person.
- 56:29SPEAKER_03: But that being said, you're back there like, okay, I need to put eight grams of G, but I need to put four grams of O in there, but then these are gonna start canceling each other out.
- 56:41SPEAKER_03: So now I have to put two grams of violet in there.
- 56:45SPEAKER_03: And I think a lot of people are don't think about the chemicals that we are working with all day, every day.
- 56:53SPEAKER_03: These are serious chemicals.
- 56:55SPEAKER_03: If I don't use them properly, I will burn your hair off.
- 56:58SPEAKER_03: I will cause third-degree burns on your scalp that now your hair no longer grows.
- 57:03SPEAKER_05: We have somebody now entering the chat because her hair looks so fucking fabulous.
- 57:07SPEAKER_05: It does.
- 57:08SPEAKER_05: I said, Your husband's gonna be so glad you got your hair done today.
- 57:12SPEAKER_05: And she says, I don't know, he might want to fuck me in my eye.
- 57:18SPEAKER_01: I mean, you were warned.
- 57:21SPEAKER_01: Or he's gonna ask the shit on your chest.
- 57:24SPEAKER_01: Or you on his.
- 57:26SPEAKER_01: I mean, you never know.
- 57:27SPEAKER_01: Oh god, that's happy I can do that for you.
- 57:30SPEAKER_06: You know what I mean?
- 57:30SPEAKER_06: That's the best.
- 57:31SPEAKER_06: That's the best ever.
- 57:33SPEAKER_06: Oh my god.
- 57:34SPEAKER_01: I feel like we also use on just to add to what Emma shared.
- 57:38SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 57:38SPEAKER_01: I feel like we actually use 100% of our brains.
- 57:41SPEAKER_01: And yeah, it's like so the decision fatigue is so exhausting.
- 57:45SPEAKER_01: Working with different personalities because we schedule every 45 minutes.
- 57:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 57:49SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's constant.
- 57:51SPEAKER_01: And then you know, the physical demanding part of it too.
- 57:54SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you're standing up, you're moving, yeah, you're done.
- 57:57SPEAKER_01: Just overstimulated.
- 57:58SPEAKER_06: So, what do you do?
- 57:59SPEAKER_06: What do you do for self-care for yourself then?
- 58:01SPEAKER_06: Because I'm I guess does going to salon sound like something that you want to do for self-care, or do you just want to get the fuck out?
- 58:09SPEAKER_01: Me personally, I love to work out.
- 58:11SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 58:12SPEAKER_01: I love to just get on the treadmill and run, or I lift weights.
- 58:16SPEAKER_01: I like to I feel like honestly, we've become so busy as a company, and there's just three of us here.
- 58:22SPEAKER_01: We're also looking if anyone wants to come work with us.
- 58:25SPEAKER_01: Um I feel like I have I've had to put myself in this position where I can keep up with the demand.
- 58:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 58:32SPEAKER_01: So I have started lifting weights because over the holiday season I developed Carpal Tunnel, and honestly, our traffic flow has not come down since then.
- 58:40SPEAKER_01: So I've done whatever I can to try to take care of my body, um, eat well, I pack snacks, I stay hydrated, I have drinks.
- 58:46SPEAKER_01: Good.
- 58:47SPEAKER_01: Just taking care of my body, mind, and soul.
- 58:50SPEAKER_06: Because that's not the way we grew up.
- 58:51SPEAKER_01: You know, it's just unattainable to operate like that.
- 58:54SPEAKER_01: Definitely not.
- 58:55SPEAKER_06: Definitely not.
- 58:55SPEAKER_06: What about you, Emma?
- 58:56SPEAKER_06: What do you do for your self-care?
- 58:58SPEAKER_06: Ooh.
- 58:59SPEAKER_06: Okay, but I mean, um it's your self-care, so no, no judgment here.
- 59:04SPEAKER_06: Maybe from Amber, but not from me.
- 59:08SPEAKER_03: Well, pre-Texas law, I used to really enjoy the devil's lettuce to calm down after work.
- 59:15SPEAKER_03: I would go sit outside, do some yoga, meditate, maybe have a little puff-puff pass.
- 59:21SPEAKER_03: And then now it's it's really just I like to read because I can escape into that fantasy and not have to worry about reality while I'm reading.
- 59:31SPEAKER_03: I do yoga.
- 59:33SPEAKER_03: I'll book services.
- 59:34SPEAKER_03: I really like to go to the Cosmos schools to get services done.
- 59:39SPEAKER_03: So I'll go, I'll get a facial,$40 facial at Paul Mitchell.
- 59:44SPEAKER_03: Y'all, it's 90 minutes.
- 59:45SPEAKER_03: Go do it.
- 59:46SPEAKER_03: I recommend it.
- 59:48SPEAKER_03: So nice.
- 59:49SPEAKER_06: Yeah, we're doing that shit.
- 59:50SPEAKER_03: But I love just going and getting services done.
- 59:54SPEAKER_03: I don't get my hair done, but like, I will get a massage, I will get a pedicure, I will get a facial, whatever.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_03: And I do a lot of journaling now because journaling's a big thing.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_03: I need to get everything off my chest, and I don't want my roommate's also a hairstylist, and so she gets it.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_03: We talk shit with each other all the time.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_03: That's we decompress that way.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_03: But it does come to a point where it's like, I don't want to burden you because I know you're dealing with your own clients, your own stuff.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_03: Right, right.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_03: So I don't want to unload my weight onto your shoulders.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_03: So channeling is really, really nice.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_03: I can get it all out, I can say whatever I want to say, and then be done with it.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_03: I give myself 15 minutes when I get in my car after work.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_03: I'm like, okay, I have 15 minutes to be pissy, to be a bitch, to just be evil, and then I get it out, get it off my chest, and then I'm better.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_03: I'm good.
- 1:00:51SPEAKER_06: That's really good.
- 1:00:51SPEAKER_06: No, journaling is definitely something that has helped me a lot as well.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_06: Because it is a way to get it out, like you said, like getting it out, and it doesn't belong to you anymore.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_06: Correct.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_01: You know, don't carry that.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_03: A lot of it, you know, it's not yours to carry in the first place.
- 1:01:06SPEAKER_03: Something that's been loaded onto you subconsciously by somebody else, and we will hold on to that.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_03: So you need to get it out and get it off because you'll turn into a jaded monster if you keep all that in.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_03: 100%.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_03: That happens more often.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_01: I learned healthy boundaries with that.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_01: I had a lot of anxiety.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_01: Like I actually had my first panic attack.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_01: I want to say two years after I'd been doing hair full-time.
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_01: And I literally thought I was having a heart attack.
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_01: And I went to the emergency room and everything, and it was just the burden that I was carrying.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_01: But it's because I think I am probably like a slight empath and I don't care about my guests.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_01: Like the whole reason I got into this industry is because I love to make people look good.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:01:47SPEAKER_01: So with that, you know, trust and safety.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_01: And so they do get vulnerable with us as well.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_01: And they don't, yeah, they don't.
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_01: I used to do this thing where I transfer energy to a tree, I would be like, hold this for me.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_01: And I would I do a lot of prayer, I would just pray to for God to renew my spirit and my mind.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_01: And literally on my way to work every day.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_01: That's what I do.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_01: I just pray to be the light to shine for Jesus.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_06: That's awesome.
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_01: I need that.
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_01: I need anything to renew my mind and my spirit because at the end of the day, I do want to make them look and feel their best.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_06: Absolutely.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_06: I mean, there's nothing, there's nothing better in our career, right?
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_06: We're in service of other people, is to make them feel better, you know, even if it's just for a few minutes for us for an hour, something, you know.
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_06: And I feel like for me, and I've shared this before, I think I've shared this on the podcast before that um I have a practice where I wash my feet and I wash my hands.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_06: And so I have like, and I started doing it again recently, um, next to my bed.
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_06: I have it just the little like baby wipes, you know, the unscented ones.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_06: And right before I get into my bed, I wash my feet, and I just put, you know, it's like nothing can come into my room, can come into my space, everything's left washed away.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_06: You know, and I do it right before I teach, most of the time I do it right before I teach a yoga class.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_06: And I wash the bottom of my feet, and I just kind of make it like a film, a barrier that's like everything good can come out, can go out, everything good can come in, nothing bad can leave, nothing bad can come in.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_06: And it's almost like this bubble of protection, right?
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_06: That it's like this reminder for me to not take it home, you know.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_01: So practices like that for someone like me just helps me switch gears.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_01: Exactly, exactly.
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_01: Those transitions.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_06: Well, and if you're booked every we're the same way, you're 45 minutes, we're 50 minutes.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_06: So it's like every 50 minutes, if you're rotating through people, and then you have overlap if you've got somebody that's doing color and then doing a cut and coming in to do this or that.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_01: And then I leave work and I'm speeding off to catch the bus for wake up, and then I have three kids.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_03: And then you gotta cook dinner, you gotta help with homework.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah, there's so much that I want to project that onto my baby.
- 1:03:56SPEAKER_01: You know, I want to be the fun, exciting, happy loving mom.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_01: So you do have to take care of yourself.
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_01: You do.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_01: You know, I do talk therapy as well, and one thing my therapist reminds me of is you can't pour from an empty cup.
- 1:04:06SPEAKER_01: Oh, I love that color.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_01: That's one of my favorites.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_01: I love that one.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_01: She reminds me of on an airplane when you fly, they always say, Mom, put your mask on first before you help your kids.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_01: And you do, you really, you know, because we do overflow and pour into so many and service industries, it is important to know.
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_01: It totally is.
- 1:04:22SPEAKER_01: You yourself fill your own cup.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_01: I think that's most important, too.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_06: Oh, okay.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_06: So we're getting a little soft, so let's go back to I want to go a little softer here.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_06: What's the most meaningful conversation you've had behind the chair?
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_03: I had a woman who came in and it was I think less than a week after her husband had passed away.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_03: And they have been married for 50 years, and she was Native American, and in Native American cultures, it is common that you do not cut your hair unless someone has passed away, because hair holds memory, and it's a way of grieving, it's getting it off and getting it out so you can mourn the person and grieve the person and not hold on to the memories that are gonna cause the grief to dwell in you.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_03: And she came in, and from the get-go, you could just feel and tell that she was a broken woman and she sobbed the entire service.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_03: We took her from butt-length hair to chin-length bob, and we talked the entire time.
- 1:05:37SPEAKER_03: I lost when I was in high school, I lost my boyfriend to a very tragic accident, and I was just relating with her on that, and not to the extent of I was married for 50 years, but I know what it's like to lose someone that you love in a romantic sense.
- 1:05:54SPEAKER_03: And it just was very fulfilling and very healing being able to.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_03: Talk with someone about that, and you know, we both cried.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_03: I hugged her, and she's like, Thank you so much.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_03: I I needed this.
- 1:06:09SPEAKER_03: I it's amazing talking to someone who truly gets it because I think a lot of the time we think of grief as this ugly emotion, and it's not.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_03: You need to hold space for grief.
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_03: You need to let it out, you need to let it be physical.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_03: You should never apologize for crying when you're going through grief.
- 1:06:29SPEAKER_03: It's your body's natural reaction.
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_03: You need to get the energy out.
- 1:06:33SPEAKER_03: You cannot hold on to it.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_06: It's physiological, it's physical, it's emotional, it's everything.
- 1:06:37SPEAKER_06: And it's interesting because it's like I said to I said to my therapist today, I said, remember, I told you a long time ago, I'm gonna normalize crying in public.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 1:06:47SPEAKER_06: Because I don't think that there should be anything that we should be ashamed about because it's an energetic release.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_06: And whether that's a great I mean, you can cry laughing, and that's okay.
- 1:06:57SPEAKER_06: Why can't you cry because of grief?
- 1:07:02SPEAKER_01: Both can exist.
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_01: Grief and gratitude exists.
- 1:07:06SPEAKER_01: And I think that's a very important point.
- 1:07:09SPEAKER_01: It really is.
- 1:07:11SPEAKER_06: So starting today, so right now, all right.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_06: So what do people tell their hairstylists that they don't tell anyone else?
- 1:07:23SPEAKER_06: I mean, obviously, we've heard the eyeball socket fucking and all this other kind of crap.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_06: But like, what other has anybody confessed to a murder or anybody but like told you a crazy story about a murder?
- 1:07:36SPEAKER_05: We will have no comment on that one.
- 1:07:38SPEAKER_05: We plead the fifth.
- 1:07:39SPEAKER_06: Wait, what?
- 1:07:40SPEAKER_03: We have to plead the fifth on this one.
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_03: Seriously?
- 1:07:49SPEAKER_06: Damn it.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_06: That's like the worst thing that a podcast interviewer wants to hear is plead the fifth.
- 1:07:55SPEAKER_06: Damn it.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_06: Can I ask any other leading questions?
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_06: Was it a murder?
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_01: I just know what happened to your stacy.
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_01: Except for the 1% story.
- 1:08:11SPEAKER_07: We don't know anything about it.
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_03: If it did happen, it was justified.
- 1:08:15SPEAKER_03: I mean, I will agree with that.
- 1:08:20SPEAKER_06: I hear you.
- 1:08:20SPEAKER_03: Oh, I did have a woman in Cosmos School who came in with her parole officer, and it was immediately after getting out of jail.
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_03: She came in to get her hair done, and she her P.O.
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_03: was there the entire time.
- 1:08:38SPEAKER_03: We were talking, and you know, I was I was curious.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_03: I was like, okay, girl, you brought your PO.
- 1:08:43SPEAKER_03: I gotta know.
- 1:08:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah, what'd you do?
- 1:08:45SPEAKER_03: I have to know what did you do?
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_03: And she then goes on to tell me that she was involved in a drug ring, and she got caught smuggling cocaine into America from Mexico through her rectum and served like 15 years.
- 1:09:03SPEAKER_03: Holy shit.
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_06: Wow.
- 1:09:06SPEAKER_06: So what was what did she say about did she talk about prison?
- 1:09:09SPEAKER_03: Like she talked about prison.
- 1:09:11SPEAKER_03: She she talked a lot about how ready she was to go out and find a man because she was tired on lick it, tired of quote, y'all.
- 1:09:23SPEAKER_03: I'm quoting.
- 1:09:24SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:09:25SPEAKER_03: I'm so sick and tired of licking on everybody's punani and getting my punani licked.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_03: I need a real man.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_03: Oh.
- 1:09:33SPEAKER_03: I need a big dick right now.
- 1:09:35SPEAKER_03: So where can I go to find one?
- 1:09:37SPEAKER_06: You're like, go into that room.
- 1:09:39SPEAKER_06: Somebody's doing a Brazilian on a dude in there.
- 1:09:41SPEAKER_06: I'm sure you can find it.
- 1:09:42SPEAKER_05: Go ahead and go to county jail.
- 1:09:46SPEAKER_05: The biggest dicks work there.
- 1:09:47SPEAKER_05: Thank you.
- 1:09:52SPEAKER_06: That was a good little dig.
- 1:09:53SPEAKER_06: I like that.
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 1:09:55SPEAKER_06: What's a story that perfectly captures what it's really like to be a hairstylist?
- 1:10:03SPEAKER_05: We're interested time and time again to do like the um cancer cut.
- 1:10:11SPEAKER_05: It's very emotional.
- 1:10:13SPEAKER_05: We do baby first haircuts, we do weddings, we're a part of them from a young age.
- 1:10:20SPEAKER_05: I have gone to a wedding with one of my clients when she was a kid.
- 1:10:23SPEAKER_05: It's just like we're part of their life.
- 1:10:25SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:10:26SPEAKER_01: You even do clients that have passed.
- 1:10:28SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I even do the deceased if they were my clients because I work for seniors and they'll ask me if I'll do that once they pass.
- 1:10:35SPEAKER_05: That's okay.
- 1:10:36SPEAKER_05: So I do do that.
- 1:10:37SPEAKER_05: That is probably the hardest.
- 1:10:38SPEAKER_03: We see all stages of life, like from baby's first haircut to now we're styling your hair for prom, now we're styling it for graduation, and then you get the grad party invite, and then a few years later, it's normally followed up with a wedding invite.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_03: And it's just it's really special to be such a big part, but also an insignificant part of somebody's life for so long.
- 1:11:05SPEAKER_03: You watch them grow up, you watch them become a person.
- 1:11:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and it's really fulfilling.
- 1:11:11SPEAKER_03: It makes you feel like a proud mom moment when you get those invites, and when you see, oh, Madison's coming in today because she's getting ready to go to her first year of college and she wants her highlights done.
- 1:11:24SPEAKER_03: It's the best feeling ever.
- 1:11:27SPEAKER_03: Knowing that you are trusted to do that, but then also to just be a part of the their life and be a part of that moment.
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_06: I mean, how beautiful is that.
- 1:11:37SPEAKER_06: That is really like rewarding.
- 1:11:38SPEAKER_06: That is very rewarding.
- 1:11:40SPEAKER_06: That's very beautiful.
- 1:11:41SPEAKER_06: And the way that, like, I don't know, just thinking about the fact that you don't always get the credit because it's not like hair by Emma, you know, as I'm walking down the aisle, right?
- 1:11:53SPEAKER_06: But like you're there or you can see it.
- 1:11:55SPEAKER_06: Well, since you mentioned weddings, what is the most chaotic wedding prom or special event hairstyle you've had?
- 1:12:08SPEAKER_01: I can't remember a specific one, but I will say a lot of times it's never the bride, it's like the sister of the bride.
- 1:12:17SPEAKER_03: The mother of the bride.
- 1:12:18SPEAKER_03: Oh.
- 1:12:19SPEAKER_01: Someone trying to still the thunder, and they're like, well, at my wedding, you know, my wedding.
- 1:12:25SPEAKER_03: My hairstylist didn't do it like this for my wedding.
- 1:12:29SPEAKER_06: Oh my god.
- 1:12:30SPEAKER_03: Why are you taking so long?
- 1:12:32SPEAKER_06: Oh my god.
- 1:12:33SPEAKER_03: It's just very much like indie.
- 1:12:35SPEAKER_06: Wow.
- 1:12:36SPEAKER_03: The energy, people are already high strung on formal occasions like that, and they're already rolling by it, so you're like anxious.
- 1:12:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:12:44SPEAKER_03: And then it very much does come out on the service industry workers.
- 1:12:50SPEAKER_03: Because a lot of the time we're we find that some there are some people out there who do still look at hairstylists as, oh, well, I'm paying you.
- 1:13:02SPEAKER_03: You're I'm gonna say whatever I want, I'm gonna act however I want.
- 1:13:06SPEAKER_03: You work for me.
- 1:13:08SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 1:13:08SPEAKER_03: And at the end of the day, I don't work for you.
- 1:13:11SPEAKER_03: It's very I don't like that now.
- 1:13:15SPEAKER_03: We've done a good job of weeding that out, honestly.
- 1:13:17SPEAKER_01: We haven't done that in a very long time.
- 1:13:19SPEAKER_03: Our girls are the most respectful, amazing people ever.
- 1:13:23SPEAKER_03: But there are some entitled people out there, and it comes up a lot in formal occasions.
- 1:13:28SPEAKER_01: We'll put them in a graveyard.
- 1:13:30SPEAKER_01: Like your name will have headstones by it.
- 1:13:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's true.
- 1:13:32SPEAKER_01: Because we choose peace.
- 1:13:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:13:35SPEAKER_05: If those so falls and there's a graveyard, we're like, no.
- 1:13:39SPEAKER_01: No English.
- 1:13:40SPEAKER_01: Just like a little emoji.
- 1:13:44SPEAKER_05: They have like 10 graveyards, we're like, Whoa, what did they do?
- 1:13:49SPEAKER_06: Oh my god.
- 1:13:51SPEAKER_05: They did something.
- 1:13:52SPEAKER_06: Yeah, they're on the no fly list prevalently.
- 1:13:55SPEAKER_06: Oh my gosh.
- 1:13:57SPEAKER_06: All right.
- 1:13:58SPEAKER_06: What is one hairstyle trend that you hope never comes back?
- 1:14:04SPEAKER_01: The 80s, big hair.
- 1:14:06SPEAKER_06: Big hair.
- 1:14:06SPEAKER_01: Because it's just compromised hair.
- 1:14:08SPEAKER_01: At the end of the day, that's all it is.
- 1:14:10SPEAKER_01: It's just a major compromise, and that just goes against every fiber of my being.
- 1:14:15SPEAKER_01: So I think that would be a hard one for me to do if I was asked to.
- 1:14:19SPEAKER_01: There's a lot of things that I swore I'd never do, like balayage.
- 1:14:22SPEAKER_01: Because, you know, at the time when that trend was starting, I was like, this is roots.
- 1:14:26SPEAKER_01: What do you mean?
- 1:14:27SPEAKER_01: You want to pay$400 for your hair to look like roots.
- 1:14:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:14:30SPEAKER_01: I was like, I'll never learn this trend.
- 1:14:32SPEAKER_01: And literally, I like rock a balayage at this moment.
- 1:14:35SPEAKER_01: So there are things that I'm like, I would never, but also I love to be able to help anyone that walks through that door.
- 1:14:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:14:41SPEAKER_01: That's what they want.
- 1:14:42SPEAKER_01: I would be able to help them or at least direct them down the right path.
- 1:14:45SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:14:46SPEAKER_06: Hey, how are you?
- 1:14:48SPEAKER_06: We're just doing a podcast.
- 1:14:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah, just okay.
- 1:14:55SPEAKER_06: Um, it's 444.
- 1:14:58SPEAKER_06: Pretty good time.
- 1:14:59SPEAKER_01: I've never cut mullets, and I've cut a lot of mullets.
- 1:15:01SPEAKER_06: Oh, that would be hard.
- 1:15:02SPEAKER_05: It's the wedge for me.
- 1:15:04SPEAKER_05: And somebody no, no, no, no.
- 1:15:08SPEAKER_05: Like mine.
- 1:15:09SPEAKER_06: Oh, like that, like the Velma.
- 1:15:11SPEAKER_06: The Velma Velma haircut.
- 1:15:12SPEAKER_06: Oh, the Karen.
- 1:15:13SPEAKER_05: The Karen, we also disagree with the Karen because the haircut does match the attitude.
- 1:15:17SPEAKER_05: And the higher the hair, the bit more of the mega bitch.
- 1:15:20SPEAKER_05: That's true.
- 1:15:21SPEAKER_05: Yeah, mega Karen.
- 1:15:22SPEAKER_06: Mega Karen.
- 1:15:24SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:15:24SPEAKER_01: It's a thing.
- 1:15:25SPEAKER_01: It's a thing.
- 1:15:26SPEAKER_06: Holy shit.
- 1:15:28SPEAKER_06: Alright.
- 1:15:28SPEAKER_06: Did I miss anything?
- 1:15:30SPEAKER_05: I mean, you can come back once a week.
- 1:15:32SPEAKER_05: I'm sure we got stuff going on.
- 1:15:33SPEAKER_05: I mean, I'm loving this.
- 1:15:34SPEAKER_05: I'm loving this.
- 1:15:36SPEAKER_06: I'm loving this.
- 1:15:38SPEAKER_06: No, I mean, and that's the thing.
- 1:15:40SPEAKER_06: Like, that's why I thought this would be such a cool episode to do because you guys have so much energy that walks into the space all the time.
- 1:15:49SPEAKER_06: What is that energy like?
- 1:15:51SPEAKER_06: What does that leave behind?
- 1:15:52SPEAKER_06: What do they tell you?
- 1:15:53SPEAKER_05: Energy too.
- 1:15:54SPEAKER_05: Like, if somebody starts to be negative, we start to steer it more towards a good time.
- 1:15:59SPEAKER_05: That's why we like to have fun in here, make it light.
- 1:16:02SPEAKER_05: We try not to be too serious because one down person causes everybody to have a bad day.
- 1:16:07SPEAKER_06: That makes sense.
- 1:16:08SPEAKER_06: That makes sense.
- 1:16:09SPEAKER_01: Did we do what's the strangest thing a client has ever brought into the snow?
- 1:16:13SPEAKER_01: No, we didn't.
- 1:16:13SPEAKER_01: No, that's the only one.
- 1:16:15SPEAKER_05: I'm gonna beat that story.
- 1:16:16SPEAKER_05: I don't even know what y'all's stories are, and I'm gonna beat it, okay?
- 1:16:20SPEAKER_05: So I was probably doing hair maybe about 10 years, and um this client was cheating on her husband and her boyfriend bought her a toy, and she wanted to know if I wanted a gently used toy.
- 1:16:33SPEAKER_05: I am so dead ass serious.
- 1:16:35SPEAKER_05: Second hand.
- 1:16:36SPEAKER_05: Okay, first of all, if anybody knows me, they know that I'm a fucking germophobe.
- 1:16:40SPEAKER_05: Like, I'm a high-level germophobe.
- 1:16:43SPEAKER_05: So you want to ask me that?
- 1:16:44SPEAKER_05: Like, our tides got severed.
- 1:16:46SPEAKER_05: That was it.
- 1:16:47SPEAKER_05: That I said, thank you very much.
- 1:16:48SPEAKER_05: Goodbye.
- 1:16:49SPEAKER_05: I'm never doing your hair again.
- 1:16:50SPEAKER_05: Like, gently used, I just can't even wrap my head around this.
- 1:16:54SPEAKER_05: This is not goodwill, bitch.
- 1:16:55SPEAKER_06: This is not goodwill.
- 1:16:57SPEAKER_06: I wonder if Goodwill does get those things.
- 1:17:00unknown: I don't know.
- 1:17:01SPEAKER_05: If Goodwill gets those things and we live in a worse worse world than we really think.
- 1:17:08SPEAKER_05: I can't either.
- 1:17:08SPEAKER_05: And you should see my face never lies.
- 1:17:10SPEAKER_05: I was like, I mean, I'm so grossed out.
- 1:17:14SPEAKER_06: I was just like grossed out.
- 1:17:15SPEAKER_05: No, yeah, it was bad.
- 1:17:17SPEAKER_05: It was real bad.
- 1:17:18SPEAKER_05: It was, it was in slow motion, let me tell you.
- 1:17:21SPEAKER_06: What about you, Krista?
- 1:17:22SPEAKER_01: Oh, I've had clients bring in like farm animals before, like do little farm animal trades.
- 1:17:27SPEAKER_01: Like we had little baby goats one time, uh, chickens on the counter, like they were little baby chicks.
- 1:17:33SPEAKER_05: What were they doing?
- 1:17:34SPEAKER_01: She was like, Why can't they just bring in anything?
- 1:17:36SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 1:17:37SPEAKER_05: And I am deathly terrified of snakes.
- 1:17:39SPEAKER_05: And one time one brought in a box, and I was like, What's in that?
- 1:17:42SPEAKER_05: And she's like, a steak.
- 1:17:46SPEAKER_05: Like, I mean, I almost walked on water to push the bitch out the door.
- 1:17:49SPEAKER_05: I'm not even kidding.
- 1:17:51SPEAKER_05: I'm not even kidding.
- 1:17:52SPEAKER_06: Wait, so what what they're bringing their farm?
- 1:17:54SPEAKER_06: You're not cutting the farm animals' hair.
- 1:17:56SPEAKER_06: No, they're just don't want them in the car.
- 1:17:59SPEAKER_06: Oh god, okay, well.
- 1:18:00SPEAKER_01: Like, I'm just gonna set them on a counter.
- 1:18:01SPEAKER_06: I'm gonna set my chicken on the counter while you cut my hair.
- 1:18:04SPEAKER_06: Yeah, my baby goes.
- 1:18:07SPEAKER_01: And then they're just like and it helps protect the animal.
- 1:18:10SPEAKER_01: Like you can hear them in there.
- 1:18:11SPEAKER_01: Like, all right.
- 1:18:13SPEAKER_01: I guess.
- 1:18:14SPEAKER_01: Like, what are you what are we gonna do?
- 1:18:15SPEAKER_02: Oh my god.
- 1:18:17SPEAKER_02: This was awesome.
- 1:18:18SPEAKER_02: Tell me you're in Texas without telling me you're in Texas.
- 1:18:20SPEAKER_06: Exactly, exactly.
- 1:18:21SPEAKER_06: Exactly.
- 1:18:22SPEAKER_06: That looks awesome.
- 1:18:23SPEAKER_06: So Nora's getting ready for Burning Man, and she is now hot pink, ready to fuck some shit up in Burning Man.
- 1:18:31SPEAKER_02: Burning Man hair, baby.
- 1:18:32SPEAKER_06: Burning man hair.
- 1:18:34SPEAKER_06: All right, iconic.
- 1:18:35SPEAKER_06: Thank you guys so much.
- 1:18:36SPEAKER_06: This was so much fun.
- 1:18:38SPEAKER_02: I feel like we didn't, yeah, we barely scratched the surface.
- 1:18:42SPEAKER_06: I know.
- 1:18:42SPEAKER_06: Yeah, we're gonna do some more.
- 1:18:44SPEAKER_06: We'll have to come back.
- 1:18:45SPEAKER_06: We'll do another one.
- 1:18:46SPEAKER_02: This one might be a part two.
- 1:18:47SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:18:48SPEAKER_06: Part two.
- 1:18:49SPEAKER_06: Part two.
- 1:18:50SPEAKER_06: But not number two on your chest.
- 1:18:53SPEAKER_06: No, no, no, ever.
- 1:18:55SPEAKER_06: Absolutely not.
- 1:18:56SPEAKER_06: Ever, never.
- 1:18:57SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 1:18:58SPEAKER_02: See ya.
- 1:18:58SPEAKER_06: Bye.
