- 0:07Now broadcasting from the Next Gen. conservative studio in
- 0:11sunny South Florida, bringing you the latest in politics,
- 0:15current events and pop culture. This is He's the Whitfield
- 0:20Report with Sam Whitfield. Hey everyone, welcome to the
- 0:31Whitfield Report Monday Edition. It's been a while since I've
- 0:38done a Monday show, quite a while actually, but nonetheless,
- 0:46glad to be here. Like I said, it's been a while,
- 0:52so if you're not familiar with the Monday show.
- 0:56These are usually prerecorded. They're a lot shorter than the
- 1:01three hour show, so we'll be here for, you know, about half
- 1:08an hour to 45 minutes usually if that.
- 1:16And you know, the the Monday shows usually tend to be a
- 1:21little either. They either usually cover like
- 1:25news or you know stuff like that or they tend to be more laid
- 1:30back just depending on the week. In this case it is Labor Day.
- 1:38So happy Labor Day to everyone listening and or watching this
- 1:46on Monday when it airs. I hope you're having a good long
- 1:51weekend. And if you're listening to this
- 1:55on Tuesday or you know, any day after, I hope you had a good,
- 2:01you know, long weekend. Summer's almost coming to close
- 2:06and you know the kids are heading back to school and
- 2:12everything else. But hey, you know, you can still
- 2:15chill out, relax and have some fun.
- 2:18And that's we're going to do here.
- 2:24Tonight's show so I only have real like 2 topics or three
- 2:34topics really at the most. The first and foremost was kind
- 2:41request from a few people on Twitter regarding the game
- 2:47Starfield and this whole. Gender pronouns thing that I
- 2:58guess has popped up. And for those who are not from
- 3:03Miller, what this is what this is about, I guess.
- 3:07Starfield is a game that was published by Bethesda, which is
- 3:16one of the big, you know, triple-A game studios, and it's.
- 3:21Supposed to be like Microsoft's, you know, exclusive, you know,
- 3:29it's a it's a Microsoft exclusive.
- 3:31So PC and Xbox, I guess it's like an MMO of some kind.
- 3:39And it's their answer basically to Cyberpunk 2077, I guess,
- 3:44right? So.
- 3:52I guess Starfield has like gender pronouns in it and what
- 3:58not. And it's gotten a lot of press
- 4:04lately because as who is a, you know, a YouTube commentator, he
- 4:11does the channel heel, heel versus babyface.
- 4:16He actually did a rant about. Starfield and all this gender
- 4:28identity stuff and it's it's gone viral so you know I'm going
- 4:36to break down this ran to the as did because it it's it's gone
- 4:47viral boy boy or not and. I'm not sure what's funny or the
- 4:53fact that you know that Starfield has like gender
- 4:59pronouns and or the fact that as raining about Starfield having
- 5:04gender pronouns has gone viral. So let's take a look at this
- 5:13folks. And.
- 5:19Hold on, let me pull it up on my screen.
- 5:22There we go. So this is originally from the
- 5:27channel Shuds of TikTok, which I guess is supposed to be like a
- 5:36satire of, like, webs of TikTok. They're supposedly like, they're
- 5:43supposedly like a conservative, you know?
- 5:47Like a liberal version of libs of TikTok, basically.
- 5:50Right. So they took this clip and it
- 5:56went viral. And so here's the rant that as
- 6:05did on Starfield. Let's take a listen.
- 6:11I just want to say something to you, but says just want to say a
- 6:13little something. There is nothing I love more.
- 6:16Taking my headphones off. Fuck that, Bethesda.
- 6:19There is nothing I love more than to to to sit down, comfy
- 6:24chair, turn on the PC, fire up a brand new RPG, lose myself,
- 6:31think, Oh my God, just think of this world.
- 6:32Just think of all the planets I can visit, all the immersive
- 6:36things that I can get involved with, all the fights, all the
- 6:39relationships, all the people I meet, all the places I go.
- 6:43I'm so excited to go there and you know, I love nothing more.
- 6:47Then, with all of that laid out in front of me, I love nothing
- 6:50more than to be dragged out at every fucking conceivable
- 6:55opportunity so you can. Fucking current dayers.
- 7:02Sorry, did you want to get immersed in our world?
- 7:04Yeah, well guess what? Fucking Pronouns.
- 7:08Fucking gender ambiguity. Fucking current day Californian
- 7:12shit. Because that's all we fucking
- 7:14know. Because we've been boring.
- 7:17We're so fucking boring we can't see past our own fucking
- 7:29reflection. That's the level of our
- 7:32narcissism here. But, says the Western Game
- 7:36Company. Fuck your immersion.
- 7:40Fuck you having a good time. Fuck you.
- 7:43Falling into a world and just getting lost.
- 7:45No, no, no Current fucking day. Fuck off.
- 7:52You're boring. You're fucking doll.
- 7:55You have nothing to say. You are A1 Hived mind twat
- 8:01Waffle. That's all you fucking are.
- 8:07And you wonder why people are getting so fucking sick and
- 8:10tired. You take everything we love, all
- 8:14our emotions, all our fantasies, all our escapism, and you just
- 8:19can't help shovel you are dog shit fucking crap ideology into
- 8:26everything. Every single surgery fucking
- 8:30thing. Okay, now the Internet has had a
- 8:56lot of fun with this, right? The the General, you know,
- 9:02conception of this clip. Is Oh my God, this guy is
- 9:08overreacting over gender pronouns.
- 9:10What a you know, what a loser. What an overreaction, you know
- 9:16to them. To Bethesda, simply adding in
- 9:20gender pronouns into an RPG, into, you know, a character
- 9:25creation tool. Essentially, you know this guy
- 9:30has a bad temper. He, you know, Oh my God, how
- 9:35awful, right? That's the general, you know,
- 9:40kind of like consensus that sheds of TikTok and all these
- 9:43other, you know, woe commentators are trying to say
- 9:47that. They're trying to basically say
- 9:49like, oh, come on, it's not that bad.
- 9:52This guy is overreacting. Right?
- 9:55But a few things to break down here, right.
- 10:00OK folks. First off, anyone who thinks
- 10:04that AS is overreacting because he's yelling in this, you know,
- 10:14review and in his rant, most likely these are people who have
- 10:20never watched as his channel heel versus babyface before,
- 10:24right? I discovered as back in 2020
- 10:30alongside. You know, the critical drinker
- 10:33and nerd rotic. That was when I discovered him,
- 10:38right. And as his review style kind of
- 10:48is a bit on the Ranchi side, that that's just kind of his on
- 10:52air personality. He he likes to, you know, get
- 10:57hyped up. He likes to.
- 10:59Rant a bit. And he likes to yell sometimes,
- 11:03right? That's his gimmick.
- 11:06He he did like multiple reviews for the Star Wars movies where
- 11:14like that was basically his thing was criticizing the new
- 11:20Disney Star Wars trilogy and basically yelling about it,
- 11:25right? Bring up the fact they were.
- 11:29You know, pushing this social justice ideology in the Star
- 11:35Wars films, right? He he made a review series for
- 11:43The CW series Batwoman, which ended up getting cancelled.
- 11:48And actually, I think his ranch reviews about Batwoman actually
- 11:56ended up getting more reviews. Than that woman itself, right.
- 12:02So anyone who is, you know, complaining about, as you know,
- 12:09yelling and or ranting, they don't seem to understand that
- 12:14that's just as being as right. He's always done that to an
- 12:21extent. Now people also think that
- 12:26because he's yelling and, you know, kind of, you know, getting
- 12:32fed up, that that completely invalidates his point.
- 12:37But here's the thing, folks and I, I've talked about this, you
- 12:45know, before on the show. We covered this pretty in depth
- 12:50back in June, right? The thing that is this isn't an
- 12:58isolated incident, folks, AS is not specifically mad that you
- 13:07know Starfield has gender pronouns in it because it's not
- 13:11just Starfield. What, as is ranting about and
- 13:16what a lot of us, what I have criticized in the past as well
- 13:21is the fact that. All these triple-A game studios
- 13:28that are into Rpg's specifically within the last couple years
- 13:44they've done this thing where they they they make, you know?
- 13:52Gender pronouns a thing or they purposely make like gender
- 13:59ambiguous in games somewhat, right.
- 14:05They even did this in Eldon Ring a few years ago when that came
- 14:09up where instead of you know back in the old days that they
- 14:15are of role-playing games. And by the old days I mean like.
- 14:21You know, mid 2000s, basically pre 2016, right?
- 14:28You had a you had a male gender that you could choose from or
- 14:33you had a female gender that you could choose from, right?
- 14:37And then if you wanted a list of, you know, female voices to.
- 14:45Choose from. You had a list of female voices,
- 14:47and if you wanted a list of male voices, you had a list of male
- 14:51voices to choose for your character in all of these RP
- 14:55G's, right? But really, ever since the
- 15:00Gamergate era and you know, post 2016, all these game developers,
- 15:10especially in the RPG world. I've done this weird thing where
- 15:19you have you have the male and female body types, but instead
- 15:24of calling them like male or female you call them body type A
- 15:31or body type B you know and like in the case of elder ring like
- 15:41body type A. Is clearly a male body right?
- 15:49And then body type B is clearly female, you know, and its
- 15:56features right. But instead of just doing male
- 16:00and female, they do body type A and body type B.
- 16:04Because B because current day politics right?
- 16:10And instead of having male voice one or male voice two, they have
- 16:15voice A or boy or voice B. And then instead of having like
- 16:20female voice one or female voice two, they have, they have voice
- 16:25C and voice D, right? So it's this, it's this whole,
- 16:33you know, thing of like making gender ambiguous in in games,
- 16:39right? And here's the thing.
- 16:45It's people are asking, well, Sam, you know, it's just a video
- 16:50game. What's the big deal?
- 16:53You know, come on, you conservatives are reacting,
- 16:58right? Well, this is the whole thing
- 17:03folks, is. The gender identity politics, it
- 17:09starts out in entertainment and in television and in games,
- 17:18right? It starts off there and then it
- 17:23trickles that, and then it trickles slightly, surely into
- 17:26the real world. We've seen this over over the
- 17:29past decade, right? All of those crazy, you know,
- 17:34Tumblr. Blogs from like 15 years ago,
- 17:38all those Tumblr rats that we're talking out gender pronouns and
- 17:45being non binary and queer theory and all that shit from
- 17:50like 15 years ago that was on Tumblr.
- 17:56All those kids, you know went to college and then.
- 18:02They got jobs in the corporate world and now this shit is
- 18:05manifesting itself in the real world, folks.
- 18:09It's not just good enough to, you know, to be a a, you know, a
- 18:15a plain old guy or plain old gal and just have it be that, Oh no,
- 18:21we need your we need your pronouns and your e-mail
- 18:24signature and your pronouns, you know, on your social media
- 18:28profile and. You know, heaven forbid if you
- 18:32accidentally misgender someone in in an office place, that's
- 18:38like an HR violation now, right? So people ask what is the big
- 18:46deal with the, you know, players being nonbinary and starfield?
- 18:54Nothing, except for the fact that, you know, you give these
- 18:58people. People an inch and they take a
- 19:02mile. You know Hogwarts legacy isn't
- 19:07is another example where they actually listed, you know, male
- 19:17and female character roles and because of that like the SJW
- 19:25trans. You know, people like lost their
- 19:29fucking minds over, right? Because, well, a, they, they
- 19:38hate JK Rowling now, right? They They they hate JK Rowling.
- 19:42They hate Harry Potter now because she said one thing that
- 19:52you know, trans women are not the same as.
- 19:55Biological women, that's all, she said.
- 19:58And now they've completely lost their mind And you know, they
- 20:01were trying to, you know, get the Hogwarts legacy game shut
- 20:07down and they were trying to cancel JK wrong.
- 20:10Which, by the way, backfired on the massive way.
- 20:15Because even the people like me who don't necessarily, you know,
- 20:21who aren't necessarily big fans of Harry Potter.
- 20:23We bought the game and played it just to, you know, say screw you
- 20:28to the cancer culture mom, right.
- 20:32That was that, right. So that is an example.
- 20:41But, you know, also, like, as talking out of the current day
- 20:44politics break. You know how it breaks the
- 20:49immersion of being lost into the world?
- 20:52And it really does, right, folks?
- 20:54Because as a gamer, when I turn on my PlayStation Five in the
- 21:03evening or when I boot up my computer to play a game or
- 21:07something, I want to get lost in the world of that game.
- 21:16I don't want to think of pronouns.
- 21:19I didn't need politics. I don't want to think of any of
- 21:23the current day, you know, political tropes that are
- 21:28necessarily going on, especially in something like a science
- 21:32fiction or, you know, fannies, fannies genre.
- 21:38I just want to be immersed in the game, right?
- 21:43But yet these people have to continuously push their, you
- 21:50know, gender identity crap in their work, politics on us and
- 21:55it. And it's just, it's a bit much,
- 22:00folks. And you know, I can see why
- 22:03people like ads sometimes lose their mind about it because it's
- 22:08it's fucking everywhere now, even in like games like Call of
- 22:14Duty, right, folks, Call of Duty is a first person, you know,
- 22:22military shooter game. And the multiplayer is, you
- 22:30know, arguably it's it's like one of the biggest, like online
- 22:33multiplayer, you know, shooter games out there, if not the
- 22:38biggest. And yet what do they do every
- 22:42June in solidarity with gay Pride month?
- 22:46Call of Duty always updates the game to include like you know L
- 22:56GB TQ pride month machine guns and L GB TQ pride month you know
- 23:06character skins and just stuff that doesn't really fit the you
- 23:14know the whole theme of Call of Duty being military.
- 23:19You know based or military themed.
- 23:21But it's just them, you know, promoting their I, you know
- 23:29their politics through gaming and and gamers are sick of it.
- 23:34Even even though all the even though all the gamers I knew who
- 23:37are pro gay right. And who you know who might be
- 23:43non binary. Even though all of them are
- 23:47getting sick of this because they feel like they're being
- 23:53panted to rather than just validated right.
- 23:58So that's what this whole, you know, rants is about folks from
- 24:05as it's because it's not genuine, right.
- 24:09A lot of these companies are just virtually signaling for the
- 24:14sake of virtue signaling because they think it's going to drive
- 24:18up a profit when in reality you know it's not really you know
- 24:25and in some cases like you know it's driving people way now, you
- 24:33know. In regards to Starfield, like
- 24:35minus that one thing I've heard, it's pretty good.
- 24:39I haven't played it yet, and I'm not sure I'm going to be able to
- 24:42since they PC slash Xbox exclusive.
- 24:48I will say that, like some of the critiques of Starfield have
- 24:51been pretty unfair because they're basically saying it's
- 24:57that it's like just a cheap rip off and a buggy version of
- 25:00Cyberpunk 2077. Which is amusing, because you
- 25:06know, Cyberpunk 2077 was infamous for basically being
- 25:11broken on launch and virtually unplayable no matter what
- 25:17platform you were playing on, right?
- 25:21And you know, now that the game is fixed and whatnot, everyone
- 25:24loves to talk how great it is, and they love to shit on
- 25:29Starfield, right? But you know anyone who
- 25:32remembers what was going on there with Cyberpunk 2077 upon
- 25:38its launch? You know, don't judge Sharpfield
- 25:42too harshly for the, you know, for some of the bugs because you
- 25:48know Cyberpunk had had its issues as well.
- 25:51That's all I would say there, you know.
- 25:55With that in mind, you know most developers why should say all
- 26:03developers need to fix their damn games and you know,
- 26:10troubleshoot bugs completely before a lodge, before release,
- 26:16right? Forget the forget the identity,
- 26:21the politics. You know any of the woke versus
- 26:23non woke politics. Like, that's my biggest, you
- 26:28know, gripe and gaming these days is that game companies are
- 26:33charging 6070, even $100 sometimes for new games, right?
- 26:42So you can be, you can be like paying up to 100 hundred dollars
- 26:51sometimes just for a video game. And they're riddled with bugs
- 26:59and glitches upon launch and at the price point that they're
- 27:05selling games for now, which, you know, no matter how you
- 27:14slice it, 60 dollars, $70.00, that is, that is a lot for a
- 27:22game. Yeah, I understand.
- 27:24Oh, you know, it's the time programming and time spent.
- 27:30You know, labor and all this cost and you know, inflation and
- 27:37you know, hardware support and all of that.
- 27:42I get that. But at $670, that's not like a
- 27:50that's not a small, you know, amount of money.
- 27:53So if you want to charge that price, fix your shit in the 1st
- 27:59place. Triple game, AAA title
- 28:05companies. And that's why I've been playing
- 28:08games like Disco easier. You know, indie games, indie
- 28:15games like Company of Heroes, smaller.
- 28:21You know, developers that might not charge as much money, but
- 28:26damn it, they tend to fix their games right off the bat folks.
- 28:33Wouldn't you know it? It's a miracle that that does
- 28:36happen at times. These indie game companies
- 28:41actually tend to fix their shit more often than not.
- 28:45And you know, I've I've had fun playing Disco Oasium for the
- 28:53basketball days. You know, it's an RPG.
- 28:55It's it's kind of like a weird psychological thriller.
- 29:00RPGI haven't quite gotten the hang of it, but it's a fun game
- 29:05so far. Check out if you want to, and I
- 29:07think it's only like $30 in some cases, folks.
- 29:12It's even on sale depending on where you look, by the way.
- 29:19So you know that's that's just a quick one right about you know
- 29:25Starfield, that's my take on it is as a wood over the top and
- 29:30his review. Yeah but that's just his style.
- 29:33I don't think his message is necessarily wrong per se.
- 29:36I think he is kind of spot on with that if you want to know my
- 29:40opinion. Like we're we're just sick of
- 29:44the of the woke bullshit already folks.
- 29:49Give it a rest. Stop trying to force it.
- 29:51It's not making money. So yeah, and then let's see what
- 30:03else do we have? Oh, so over the weekend I I
- 30:11started watching a new series on Apple TV plus called Hijack with
- 30:21Idris Elba. And I have some mixed opinions
- 30:30on this show to be honest. It's it's a mixed bag, ladies
- 30:39and gentlemen, it it stars Edris Elba, who I love.
- 30:45He plays, you know, he's most famous probably for John Luther
- 30:50and the BBC series Luther, which is absolutely fantastic.
- 30:59He's done like a few other movies.
- 31:03He's been in the Marvel Cinematic Universe before.
- 31:08He was at one point you know being considered to be like the
- 31:12first black James Bond. A lot of people were pushing him
- 31:18to do that until he and sell back his accountants.
- 31:21And now I don't want to do it because, you know, it's too
- 31:25physical. And you know, after looking at
- 31:29at what Daniel Craig went through for all those years,
- 31:33just getting beat up, I'm not really sure that I want to do
- 31:40that right. But he is in a new series called
- 31:46Hijack. It's on Apple TV plus now Apple
- 31:52TV. Plus, they're one of the newer
- 31:55streaming services out there. And, you know, I'll be honest,
- 32:00like, yeah, I am an Apple fanboy.
- 32:02I have an iPhone. I have a Mac.
- 32:04I have an iPad. You know, Apple, everything my
- 32:07Apple Watch is charging, you know, right now I've got Apple
- 32:12Music. You know, I'll admit I am a I'm
- 32:17an Apple cultist, as some of you out there on the Internet likes
- 32:22to like to say, and I'm rather unapologetic about it, you know,
- 32:27so so sue me, I like Apple, right?
- 32:31With that being said, I will admit that, you know, Apple TV.
- 32:35Plus, I'm still kind of scratching my head, you know,
- 32:41wondering why they got into the, you know, TV entertainment
- 32:45streaming genre in the 1st place, especially in a, you
- 32:51know, a streaming world is already like very I guess
- 32:56segmented. I guess they've had like some
- 33:01success with the, you know, with Apple TV Plus.
- 33:06But the thing it is, is anytime you buy like a new Mac or a new
- 33:09iPhone, you get like three to six months free on your Apple
- 33:14TV, you know, plus subscription anyway.
- 33:19And So what happens is most people get a free trial and then
- 33:24they they just cancelled outright and then that's that,
- 33:31right? So that's what I've done.
- 33:35I did that a few years ago, like when the service first launched
- 33:38and I got like an iPhone a few years ago, I got like an I got a
- 33:43free subscription then and then once it like expired, I cancel
- 33:48it. And then I just got my iPhone 14
- 33:51Pro. So they gave me another, you
- 33:55know, free three months. So I've redeemed it since then
- 33:59and I've been watching this show.
- 34:02Hijack, right. So the premise of hijack with
- 34:11Idris Elba is that he's a, he just have a play plays kind of
- 34:20like a corporate finance guy and the show starts off this
- 34:29airliner takes off from Saudi Arabia and is flying back to
- 34:38London, which is about like a six and a half hour flight I
- 34:43guess in the story. And so the plane gets hijacked
- 34:50by like a group of British hijackers, right?
- 34:58It's kind of unclear whether or not they're like bank robbers or
- 35:03like just like flat out domestic tariffs or what.
- 35:09But they hijacked this plane. And Aegis Alba is this like
- 35:19corporate negotiator guy and he has to kind of like negotiate
- 35:24with the terrorists to like make sure they don't kill anyone on
- 35:29the plane and on three episodes in, folks.
- 35:36I just started watching over the weekend and let me say this,
- 35:41there are things that are good about the series and there are
- 35:45things that are kind of meh about the series so far.
- 35:52I've got the trailer pulled up, so let's watch this real quick
- 35:57and then I'll kind you do do like a spoiler free review so
- 36:04far. Some things that I like and some
- 36:10things that I don't like, right? So here's the trailer for Hijack
- 36:16from Apple TV Plus, and I'll go ahead and get that queued up.
- 36:32So here it is. Let's start from the beginning.
- 36:38Okay with any remaining passengers for flight KA29,
- 36:51please make their way to gate B-15.
- 36:55Good morning, everyone. This is Captain Robin Allen
- 36:57speaking. Flight time today.
- 36:59Six hours, 54 minutes. Operation has commenced votes
- 37:19tablets. Plane is under control.
- 37:23You need to see this plane beard.
- 37:24Of course someone is calling for help.
- 37:32Got family loved ones. We got one job to do right now.
- 37:35Just get through to them. I got a message from the plane
- 37:40that says incident on board. What exactly does your dad do
- 37:44for a living? It's difficult to explain.
- 37:46Sam's the best at handling it on the more the negotiation.
- 37:53There are 200 people on this flight.
- 37:56If they try something and then this plane goes down, I don't
- 38:00get home to my family. Let me make you an offer I've
- 38:07been handed demands. It's all going wrong in the
- 38:10first hour. Imagine the next six.
- 38:13We need to get a message to the whole plane.
- 38:16We just need to be ready, this other stuff going down. 5
- 38:23passengers on that plane do not exist.
- 38:26It's a network running all across Europe.
- 38:29So then we're an incoming missile.
- 38:36For us or them, I can tell you it's not going to be us.
- 38:50OK, so I started watching this series on Friday night and I
- 39:03watched the first three episodes.
- 39:06By the time you guys listen to this, I will probably have
- 39:10watched the 4th episode, maybe more.
- 39:20So First off, here are my first impressions.
- 39:22Idris Elba does a really good job in this role.
- 39:29It's a bit unclear as to what his role is at 1st and what he's
- 39:36supposed to do. Part of that is because the
- 39:39writing, which I'll get to in a SEC, but overall it just help
- 39:45with, does a really good job of his role.
- 39:51All the other actors, the supporting actors, they do a
- 39:55really good job even like the terrorists or bank robbers or
- 40:01whatever they are. They do a really good job.
- 40:06And you know, same thing with the the the crew and the
- 40:11passengers. I like the concept of the story
- 40:16too, because usually in most TV series that are kind of like,
- 40:25you know, suspense thrillers or I guess like terrorism
- 40:31thrillers, plane hijackings can be like part of like a larger
- 40:39plot. But they aren't the plot
- 40:42necessarily so to speak. And this one really kind of
- 40:46makes the whole, you know, flight hijacking thing, like the
- 40:51primary plot point within the show.
- 40:56So both the acting and the overall concept all, you know,
- 41:01I'll put those two things, you know, in the category of things
- 41:08that the show does really well, right.
- 41:12As far as the actual writing and the execution of the show
- 41:20itself, well, I'm only three episodes in, but I would admit
- 41:28that that is where the show kind of tends to falter, right?
- 41:35So First off folks, when I said that, you know, the the the
- 41:46villains might be terrorists or bank robbers or whatnot,
- 41:51whatever, I I said on purpose because the shell, at least at
- 41:58this point, and I don't know whether it's on purpose or
- 42:02whether it's just a plow, but it is really ambiguous as to what
- 42:09exactly these terrorists or bank robbers or whatever what what
- 42:15It's really unclear what the hijackers motive for hijacking
- 42:22the plane is, right? We don't know if there's
- 42:26anything like special on board yet.
- 42:29We don't know if there's like anyone like specifically on that
- 42:33plane. We don't know really what their
- 42:36goal is like are they professional assassins on the
- 42:39way to assassinate someone in great brand?
- 42:44And if so, why are they using like a, you know, commercial
- 42:47airline and then hijacking it, right.
- 42:50Are they plotting like a terrorist attack?
- 42:56No one really knows. And so the the, the motivations
- 43:09of the of like the hijackers are really kind of unclear at this
- 43:16point. And I I understand wanting to
- 43:22like kind of build, you know, suspense intention for the show,
- 43:30right? Like I understand wanting to
- 43:31like make their motivations like a mystery in the show so to
- 43:36speak. But the problem I have is the
- 43:39way in which they're doing it is really like kind of confusing
- 43:44because in certain instances, they'll make it seem like, like
- 43:52the hijackers simply just want to like, rob the plane or try
- 43:57and steal something, right? And they're basically like
- 44:02pulling like it on air, like stick up or something, right?
- 44:06But then, but then they'll like, kind of change the narrative to
- 44:12make it seem like they want to, like, commit like a terrorist
- 44:15attack or something, right? And then without going into
- 44:20spoilers they they kind of make it seem like they're hijacking
- 44:29the plane because the airline like fucked over like somebody's
- 44:35relative in like the hijackers crew or something like that.
- 44:40And so I I guess they're getting like revenge on the on like the
- 44:48airline because reasons But like that's that's the thing folks is
- 44:55like the motivation for the hijackers doing what they do is
- 45:04really like unclear and not like in a creative way where like
- 45:12they're where they're like you know like trying to trick the
- 45:16audience more. Like it's more like the writers
- 45:20can't decide which narrative they're going with early on in
- 45:24the series. So they're just kind of like
- 45:28trying to write in all three and then hoping that the audience
- 45:34will just be like OK with whatever they choose in the
- 45:41ending, right. It's it's very kind of it's kind
- 45:46of bizarre. I don't really see it's really
- 45:50unclear like which path they're going to take because they're
- 45:56set up really isn't all that like clear, right?
- 46:00Like it's like it doesn't even seem like they're like trying to
- 46:04like set up like a subversion in the show.
- 46:07It seems like it's really the writers at this point in the
- 46:10series have no idea where they're like going to go with
- 46:14the direction of what the hijackers are doing or what
- 46:18their motives are. Also like Adrian Salva's like
- 46:28role as a negotiator is is really kind of like and it's not
- 46:42like really that well, like explained because right, like
- 46:46his son and his wife in this, in the show, they're like they're
- 46:54they're on the ground in London. They say that he's like a, you
- 46:58know a highly skilled like corporate negotiator, right.
- 47:02But never once in the series do you see him like beforehand,
- 47:07like do like a business deal or like a, a business negotiation,
- 47:12right. So you don't really like, you
- 47:14don't really know that this guy is like a skilled negotiator.
- 47:19The audience never sees anything from his character that would
- 47:23like really establish him as like being a skilled negotiator
- 47:29in the first hand. And and in fact in some
- 47:31instances in the show it kind of seems like well he's actually a
- 47:37terrible negotiator because the terrace or whatever I able to
- 47:44order him him around right So that that's another thing.
- 47:53Also this is this is going back to the whole are they terrace or
- 47:58or are they Roberts thing thing right.
- 48:02So in regards to the hijackers of the plane, the crew is weird
- 48:17because on on the one hand you get the impression like two of
- 48:26the like the two or three of the robbers or hijackers might have
- 48:33been like special forces or you know, something like that.
- 48:36Or they've been like professional, professional like
- 48:39bank robbers or something like in the past.
- 48:43They seem to kind of know what they're doing, they know what's
- 48:48up, right. But then they have like three
- 48:52other members as part of their crew who honestly they're all
- 48:56like young 20 something year olds and they seem like they're
- 49:01very blue in the gills. It's like it's their first
- 49:04hijacking or their first, like big crime in general, and they
- 49:09don't really know what they're doing, right?
- 49:11So that's bizarre from like a writing perspective because like
- 49:17in my mind, if I'm going to hijack a plane or something,
- 49:22right? Like if I'm if I'm writing a
- 49:24villain and I'm writing like a, you know, a crew of bad guys or
- 49:29something and they're going to hijack a plane.
- 49:32I'm going to write my characters so that they can like, you know,
- 49:40so that they're like they're very well, well trained and
- 49:43they're very, you know, professional and they know what
- 49:45they're doing and you know, no one can fuck with them.
- 49:49And it raises the stakes pretty high and you know, it makes the
- 49:54stakes higher for our heroes to have to deal with, right?
- 49:59But it seems like it seems like 3 of like the highest of like
- 50:05the highest like skilled bank robbers in the country got
- 50:10together and then decided to invite like they're want to be
- 50:17gang banger cousins to like join in in the hijacking, right?
- 50:25Like just complete rank amateurs.
- 50:27And it doesn't really make a whole lot of sense, like why
- 50:31these professionals bringing in these rank amateurs to rob, to
- 50:38rob a plane with them, right to rob an to rob an airliner.
- 50:46And like I said, this whole thing of like them trying to
- 50:50like, you know, decide whether or not these hijackers are
- 50:54terrorists or just bank robbers, it's kind of like it's kind of
- 51:02be BS, I'm not going to lie. Because like, especially in the
- 51:09post 911 world, like if you hijack an airplane, I got news
- 51:14for you. You're definitely a terrorist no
- 51:17matter what. And if store it, Case closed,
- 51:21that's a terrorist attack no matter what.
- 51:27And then also without getting into any spoilers, they they do
- 51:34the, they do this thing and and I'm kind of getting sick of
- 51:37Hollywood movies doing that, of doing this thing now.
- 51:42But they do this trope where like one of the hijackers like
- 51:46you, you kind of dive into their back story a little bit and like
- 51:53the idea is that you kind of feel sorry for like one of the
- 51:56hijackers eventually, right. You like, it's kind of like one
- 52:02of the thing like, oh, he was forced into this.
- 52:05So, you know, by virtue of the fact that he was forced into
- 52:09this, like he himself is kind like one of the hostages on the
- 52:13play. And then you're kind of supposed
- 52:15to empathize with him, right? And it's like, it's like, well,
- 52:19fuck off if you guys are going to, you know, like, I hate when
- 52:24people do that, where they try and make like these, when
- 52:27writers do that in the Hollywood now, where they try to make
- 52:30these utterly reprehensible, you know, villains seem like a, you
- 52:38know, sympathetic characters. Just it works on occasion.
- 52:45But now it seems like every movie wants to do that and it's
- 52:49like, no, it's bullshit. Criminals are mostly
- 52:53reprehensive, especially like hijackers and whatnot, and
- 52:57usually there's no good reason for, you know, something like
- 53:03that to happen. The one example I can think of
- 53:07where, like an airplane hijacking was appropriate in
- 53:09like a show was in the Show 24. But that was because, like
- 53:17Kiefer, that was because Kiefer Sutherland's character, Jack
- 53:20Bauer, like had to hijack an airliner to basically stop like
- 53:25a, a bomb from blowing up on the plane, right.
- 53:30So he like, so the plane got hijacked and then he like, had
- 53:35to hijack the, you know, the plane like back from the
- 53:40terrorists, right. So, like, that's The only
- 53:45exception I can think of to the rule.
- 53:49But generally, this whole idea of like trying to make to make
- 53:52the bad guys sympathetic in modern media, fuck off with that
- 53:56shit Hollywood. It's getting tiresome.
- 54:01So like I said in regards to Hijack, I'm already 3 episodes
- 54:09into it. Like I'll say this, it's
- 54:12interesting enough that like I'm like I'm still watching it, but
- 54:18at the same time I think I know the way the show is going to go.
- 54:22And so once the show is over, I'll do my spoiler review of the
- 54:27show. But so far it's it's OK I kind
- 54:33of what expectations, but we'll see where it goes folks.
- 54:37That's all I can promise you. So anyway, folks, that just how
- 54:45it does it for today's show. Before we wrap up here, I do
- 54:52want to announce 2 things, one of which is I mentioned this
- 54:59over the weekend if any of you guys saw my post on Twitter,
- 55:05slash X. But my good friend Eric P Bishop
- 55:10has. He's coming out with a new
- 55:15novella, a new, you know, political Thrilla novella,
- 55:23Ransomed Daughter. There we go.
- 55:28There. It kind of came into focus
- 55:30there. And so I got like a I got a
- 55:34advanced way to copy that, Very excited to read this.
- 55:42I started reading through a bit last night and it's good so far.
- 55:47Eric will be back on the show probably later this month to
- 55:51talk about the book and can't wait to do that.
- 55:57It should be pretty fascinating. Also, he was kind enough to
- 56:02actually to actually autograph the book for me.
- 56:09Let me see if I can, if I can get the if I can get its
- 56:18autograph here up on screen for you.
- 56:22Hold on a SEC. Ah, yes, so he was.
- 56:34He was nice enough to autograph this for me and very grateful
- 56:39for that. So again, Eric, I can't wait to
- 56:42have you on the show. We haven't set a date for when
- 56:46he'll be on the show, but we will be announced that we will
- 56:49be announcing that soon once we get our schedules coordinated.
- 56:53So I go ahead and order his preorder, his book, Ransom
- 56:57Daughter on Amazon or wherever else.
- 57:01He also gave me this handy dandy like promo card here and I'll
- 57:10focus. So yeah, if you want to scan
- 57:14that QR code, if it'll focus again, okay, there it is.
- 57:24You can scan that. And yeah, so that's his book.
- 57:34And then as always, ladies and gentlemen, I've got my book,
- 57:40I've got my little political thriller, Nobella here, Shadows
- 57:44of Deception, John Ryder, Book 2, coming out probably in
- 57:54October, folks. I know I said September, but
- 57:56looks like I'm going to push it back to October.
- 58:00Still writing things, so it might just want to make
- 58:05announcements for those two things.
- 58:08And without further ado, folks, I want to thank you all for
- 58:12tuning into today's program. I hope you all had a good Labor
- 58:17Day weekend. Whenever you're listening to
- 58:20this, to this God bless God to this great nation, God, freedom.
- 58:26I could sing in that order and I will see you guys on Wednesday
- 58:30for the Wednesday show. God bless, folks.
