- 0:17Speaker 1: Welcome into JAGSA. I'm happy New Year.
- 0:19Speaker 2: I'm Kindanni Stephens, fran Sexton and John Oser are with
- 0:21Speaker 2: me today and we've made it. It's the final week
- 0:23Speaker 2: of the regular season. The Jaguars are gonna head to
- 0:25Speaker 2: Indianapolis face off against the Colts in their final game
- 0:29Speaker 2: of this season. We'll start out with big thing number one,
- 0:31Speaker 2: which is one more time, one more game for everybody
- 0:34Speaker 2: this year, and that includes quarterback Mac Jones, who's trying
- 0:36Speaker 2: to make a name for himself.
- 0:38Speaker 3: It's tough, you know. You're, like I said, trying to
- 0:40Speaker 3: be where your feet are, trying to keep it simple,
- 0:43Speaker 3: trying to take it one play at a time and
- 0:44Speaker 3: not thinking about the outcome of the game or the
- 0:46Speaker 3: season or what's gonna happen next day. It doesn't matter
- 0:50Speaker 3: because at the end of the day, we're out there
- 0:52Speaker 3: playing because we love the game. We want to have fun,
- 0:54Speaker 3: and I know both teams are gonna do that this week.
- 0:56Speaker 3: It's a great, great defense we get to go against.
- 0:59Speaker 3: Always is a tough defense, a lot of good players,
- 1:01Speaker 3: roll coached, and so it's an opportunity really, which is
- 1:04Speaker 3: how I look at it. And I'm gonna control what
- 1:06Speaker 3: I can control and let the chips fall Brian.
- 1:09Speaker 2: In many ways, this season has felt like a marathon
- 1:11Speaker 2: of sorts. We've finally reached the final week and mac
- 1:14Speaker 2: Jones is going to try to make the best of
- 1:15Speaker 2: it for himself to land somewhere New.
- 1:17Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:17Speaker 5: You know, he came here with the idea that this
- 1:19Speaker 5: would be a rehab job, you know, and it turns
- 1:21Speaker 5: out not to the extent of a Baker Mayfield or
- 1:25Speaker 5: a Sam Darnold, but for him, if he could get
- 1:29Speaker 5: the job done, he would have given the Jaguars. You know,
- 1:32Speaker 5: they've got four wins on the season. If they win
- 1:35Speaker 5: on Sunday, he'll have given them three or five. And
- 1:39Speaker 5: in order for them to win, he's gonna have to
- 1:41Speaker 5: play well. So there will be opportunities for him around
- 1:44Speaker 5: the National Football League, maybe not to step in and
- 1:46Speaker 5: be the starter, but there'll be an opportunity if he
- 1:50Speaker 5: plays well, someone will be interested in him.
- 1:52Speaker 4: So he's got a lot to play for.
- 1:53Speaker 5: Although John, I mean when he's in front of the
- 1:55Speaker 5: media like he was there, he's relaxed. He gon knock
- 1:58Speaker 5: like that's what's driving him. He actually he just wants
- 2:01Speaker 5: to go play well on Sunday. Which gives him a chance.
- 2:03Speaker 5: I think because he's focused on the here and now.
- 2:05Speaker 5: What does he say being worst feed.
- 2:07Speaker 6: Are Yeah, he's been there before.
- 2:10Speaker 7: He knows how to handle the media, and he knows
- 2:12Speaker 7: how he wants to handle the media, which is by
- 2:13Speaker 7: saying very little when he's on the podium.
- 2:17Speaker 6: He clearly he knows what the stakes are.
- 2:20Speaker 7: He alluded to it a little bit when he talked
- 2:22Speaker 7: on Wednesday about Look, you know, that's always the million
- 2:25Speaker 7: dollar question, where you're gonna be next year, what the
- 2:27Speaker 7: contract's gonna be. I anticipate Mac having a long career
- 2:31Speaker 7: in the NFL. I would anticipate him going to a
- 2:33Speaker 7: spot where he'll have a chance if a quarterback who
- 2:38Speaker 7: is less obviously the guy than Trevor Lawrence is in
- 2:41Speaker 7: that system, then he may go there with the chance
- 2:44Speaker 7: of if this guy falters, this is more beatable. He
- 2:48Speaker 7: has in the last couple of weeks shown to me
- 2:51Speaker 7: that he can absolutely be a backup quarterback who can
- 2:54Speaker 7: come in and function. Remember his situation, a lot going
- 3:01Speaker 7: wrong around him, a lot of injuries, so he has
- 3:03Speaker 7: not had a full arsenal weapons and he's still seven touchdowns,
- 3:07Speaker 7: seven interceptions. He's been fine, and I expect him to be
- 3:09Speaker 7: a backup next year.
- 3:10Speaker 2: All right, look at our second big thing today, which
- 3:12Speaker 2: is carryover. We talk about what a win would mean
- 3:15Speaker 2: at this point in the season. Doug Peterson tried to
- 3:17Speaker 2: figure out exactly what that would mean to the team.
- 3:20Speaker 8: It definitely can, I think it. I think it just
- 3:22Speaker 8: leaves that that good taste, that feeling of winning, you know,
- 3:25Speaker 8: especially now here we start to start a new year
- 3:27Speaker 8: and and have an opportunity, you know, to do that.
- 3:32Speaker 8: I think just gives you a little momentum, gives you
- 3:35Speaker 8: the hope that you want and that you need, and
- 3:37Speaker 8: then and then you work on what you need to fix.
- 3:39Speaker 8: So if we can do that, and plus we finished
- 3:43Speaker 8: four and two in the division, if that's if that's
- 3:44Speaker 8: the case, you know, but playing a good football team,
- 3:48Speaker 8: you know, right running back, quarterback, I mean, you know,
- 3:54Speaker 8: defenses I think six in the NFL and takeaway I mean,
- 3:57Speaker 8: it's a good football team. So we gotta we gotta
- 3:59Speaker 8: go and keep our keep our mind.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Right John, At this point, obviously, this season is what
- 4:04Speaker 2: it is. Is there any takeaway from this or is
- 4:05Speaker 2: it still just getting the young players out there getting
- 4:07Speaker 2: that experience.
- 4:08Speaker 7: Look, they're programmed to win, so they're gonna go out there.
- 4:12Speaker 7: They're gonna prepare all week to try to win. Once
- 4:15Speaker 7: the game starts, they're gonna try to win. Unfortunately, we've
- 4:18Speaker 7: been hammering this theme for five weeks because this will
- 4:22Speaker 7: be the fifth consecutive game the Jaguars have played where
- 4:24Speaker 7: neither team had any chance of the playoffs, which that
- 4:28Speaker 7: might be a record. I don't know that's ever happened before.
- 4:31Speaker 7: So do they go out and yes, they'll play younger players.
- 4:36Speaker 7: They've been gearing toward that. Jordan Jefferson got in the
- 4:39Speaker 7: lineup last.
- 4:41Speaker 6: Week.
- 4:42Speaker 7: Sounds like Doug still wants to get Tray Princeton there
- 4:44Speaker 7: at some point. I anticipate more of it, because Brian,
- 4:48Speaker 7: this that's all there is.
- 4:49Speaker 5: Yeah, let me give you a little different perspective. If
- 4:52Speaker 5: the Jaguars win on Sunday, they'll finish four and two
- 4:54Speaker 5: in the division for the third straight year, which would
- 4:56Speaker 5: be the best three year run in the division. But
- 4:59Speaker 5: the they've had and the reason the division is important
- 5:02Speaker 5: is because it's the surest way to.
- 5:03Speaker 4: The playoffs, right.
- 5:04Speaker 5: But he will be five and one against the Colts
- 5:06Speaker 5: and five and one against the Titans, just two and
- 5:09Speaker 5: four against the Texans.
- 5:11Speaker 4: Again, it's important to play well in the division.
- 5:14Speaker 5: And one of the reasons why I'm optimistic that this
- 5:17Speaker 5: can be a quick turnaround is the Colts don't have
- 5:19Speaker 5: their quarterback and they're aging on defense, and the Titans
- 5:21Speaker 5: don't have their quarterback.
- 5:23Speaker 4: And you know what's there.
- 5:24Speaker 5: You lost twenty four to twenty and twenty three to
- 5:26Speaker 5: twenty to the Texans. So the gap in this division
- 5:30Speaker 5: is between you and the Texans, and it's not as
- 5:32Speaker 5: big as it would appear at some moment in time.
- 5:35Speaker 6: So going out and.
- 5:36Speaker 5: Playing well in a divisional game at the end of
- 5:38Speaker 5: the season does matter. It might not matter to individual players,
- 5:41Speaker 5: right let me say that again.
- 5:43Speaker 4: It might not.
- 5:43Speaker 5: Matter collectively to a team that would win just five games,
- 5:47Speaker 5: if that's the case, but individual players, I think that
- 5:49Speaker 5: it would. So I'm all for them going and winning
- 5:52Speaker 5: and playing hard on Sunday because I think that the
- 5:54Speaker 5: division is paramount. It doesn't matter what your record is.
- 5:57Speaker 5: If you win the division, you're in the playoffs. And
- 6:00Speaker 5: that's what we're talking about wanting to be back in
- 6:02Speaker 5: in twenty twenty five.
- 6:03Speaker 2: We're going to do our final big thing today, which
- 6:05Speaker 2: is players made plays. We talked a lot about some
- 6:07Speaker 2: of the younger guys making big plays last week in
- 6:10Speaker 2: this game against the Colts, Brian, when you look at
- 6:12Speaker 2: the players that need to step up, who are some
- 6:13Speaker 2: names that you're thinking about this week?
- 6:15Speaker 4: Well, Mason Smith and Jordan Jefferson.
- 6:18Speaker 5: We can never say enough about them because the Jaguars
- 6:20Speaker 5: have gotten better pressure the last two weeks because He's
- 6:23Speaker 5: pushed the pocket from the interior, which makes your big
- 6:26Speaker 5: guys on the outside, Trayvon Walker and Josh heinz Allen
- 6:29Speaker 5: much more effective. I think we've seen enough for BTJ
- 6:33Speaker 5: not to worry about that. How about some more from
- 6:34Speaker 5: Parker Washington and Brenton Strange and Tank big Spy on
- 6:37Speaker 5: the offensive side. It never hurts to see Anton Harrison
- 6:41Speaker 5: play well. Look, the Colts don't have a ton of
- 6:43Speaker 5: sacks this year, but Quitty Pink can come off the edge, right,
- 6:46Speaker 5: Latu Latsu, their first round draft pick, can come off
- 6:49Speaker 5: the edge. The Colts can make things difficult on your quarterback.
- 6:51Speaker 5: So let's see Anton Harrison play well also. And then
- 6:55Speaker 5: I've been banging the drum for Trey Prince. For whatever reason,
- 6:58Speaker 5: he just doesn't get on the Field, but john there's
- 7:00Speaker 5: no reason not to play in this week started for
- 7:02Speaker 5: goodness six. Get him out there, see if he's got
- 7:05Speaker 5: what it takes to play.
- 7:07Speaker 6: Yeah, Brian took every young player.
- 7:09Speaker 7: On the roster, so uh tend to do that. I'll
- 7:11Speaker 7: go Antonio Johnson. You know, I like to see him. Uh,
- 7:15Speaker 7: You've got to see if he can be a guy
- 7:19Speaker 7: that you don't have to worry about that spot in
- 7:21Speaker 7: the off season.
- 7:21Speaker 6: So adding to Brian's rather lengthy list, all.
- 7:25Speaker 4: Going Antonio Johnson.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Fair enough, that's a couple of names to keep an
- 7:28Speaker 1: eye on. Stay with us here.
- 7:29Speaker 2: We're going to talk a little bit more about last
- 7:30Speaker 2: year's draft picks and what's coming up this weekend in Indianapolis.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Welcome back to jag Zam, brought to you by Field
- 7:39Speaker 2: to Auto Group, Jacksonville's premier luxury autogroup. You can head
- 7:42Speaker 2: over to Fields Auto dot com to check them out.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Welcome you back into jag Zam or first of the
- 7:50Speaker 2: new year, Welcome to twenty twenty five, and we're going
- 7:52Speaker 2: to talk a little bit about the twenty twenty four
- 7:54Speaker 2: draft picks. Obviously first round draft pick. We're all very
- 7:58Speaker 2: familiar with Brian Thomas junior. But Doug Peterson talked a
- 8:00Speaker 2: little bit about what he thinks the ceiling is for
- 8:03Speaker 2: Brian Thomas.
- 8:05Speaker 8: Well, I think the benchmark would have to be a
- 8:06Speaker 8: guy like Jamar Chase, Justin Jefferson, right, I think it'd
- 8:09Speaker 8: have to be those hypeer receivers, you know, and and
- 8:14Speaker 8: and you know, obviously his rookie numbers this year. We
- 8:20Speaker 8: talked about Randy Moss, who's a Hall of Fame wide receiver,
- 8:23Speaker 8: you know, and not not putting BT in the Hall
- 8:25Speaker 8: of Fame yet, but he's he's on the He's got
- 8:28Speaker 8: at least a start. But I think you got to
- 8:30Speaker 8: look at Justin Jefferson, Jamar and those guys and say, hey,
- 8:34Speaker 8: you know, if he's in that company, then I think
- 8:37Speaker 8: you can continue to get better. And those guys continue
- 8:40Speaker 8: to improve, and their ceiling is extremely high, and their
- 8:44Speaker 8: impact players for their teams, right, They're they're game changers
- 8:47Speaker 8: for their teams and and and that's what we see
- 8:50Speaker 8: Brian Thomas as.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Here Doug bart talking about Jamar Chase, Justin Jefferson, those
- 8:56Speaker 2: are names you want to hear. And then we've heard
- 8:57Speaker 2: record breaking numbers this week from Brian Thomas, you're hearing
- 9:00Speaker 2: and Moss. Those are all nice names to be situated against,
- 9:04Speaker 2: and the ceiling does seem high because of how quickly
- 9:06Speaker 2: he's been picking things up this year.
- 9:08Speaker 5: So I grabbed him after he did his press conference
- 9:09Speaker 5: just to to do a quick pregame radio interview. And
- 9:12Speaker 5: my comment to him was, my question to him was
- 9:15Speaker 5: you hear all the names, and I mentioned all of
- 9:16Speaker 5: those who do you measure yourself against? Who do He
- 9:18Speaker 5: said me, He goes, I'm not Randy Moss. It's not
- 9:22Speaker 5: fair to put me in the same conversation with Randy Moss.
- 9:25Speaker 5: And those two guys from LSU, Jamar Chase and Justin Jefferson.
- 9:28Speaker 4: I mean, they've done it at a very high level.
- 9:31Speaker 5: He said, my whole goal is to go out and
- 9:33Speaker 5: be the best Brian Thomas I can be every single Sunday.
- 9:39Speaker 5: And I just I love that that approach, and I
- 9:43Speaker 5: think he can be Justin Jefferson.
- 9:45Speaker 4: I think he can be Jamar Chase.
- 9:46Speaker 5: Just watching that play right there against the Colts, the
- 9:49Speaker 5: eighty five yard touchdown, There's.
- 9:50Speaker 4: No doubt he can do those things. John.
- 9:54Speaker 5: We heard so much about him in Young Athletes, and
- 9:56Speaker 5: you've talked about this. They get by on their athleticism
- 9:59Speaker 5: and they get by on their inst thinks. But we've
- 10:00Speaker 5: been told that his football intellect is so high it's amazing.
- 10:04Speaker 7: Yeah, it's Uh, you don't usually get that sort of
- 10:08Speaker 7: combination of that.
- 10:12Speaker 6: And have it be this evident this quickly.
- 10:15Speaker 7: I don't know where he'll eventually stack up against Jamar Chase,
- 10:19Speaker 7: Justin Jefferson, and then whoever else is coming out the
- 10:22Speaker 7: receiver position. We're in a time where it's becoming clear
- 10:28Speaker 7: that there are gonna be more great receivers. Uh, there's
- 10:31Speaker 7: more great ones coming out. The college game is more
- 10:36Speaker 7: pass oriented than ever, So you're going to get to
- 10:39Speaker 7: a point where most teams have a guy. I don't
- 10:43Speaker 7: know if it'll be better than uh Jamar Chase just
- 10:45Speaker 7: as there's but I know he's got a chance to
- 10:48Speaker 7: be special.
- 10:49Speaker 6: He has.
- 10:52Speaker 7: He has hall of fame traits, right, So I'm not
- 10:56Speaker 7: saying he's a hall of famer.
- 10:57Speaker 6: There's a long road, but.
- 11:01Speaker 7: There's no reason he can't be that because everything you
- 11:04Speaker 7: hear is that we see the ability and to get
- 11:08Speaker 7: to that level of ten year greatness, right, you know
- 11:11Speaker 7: which it takes. Now, you've got to combine it with
- 11:15Speaker 7: work ethic, professionalism, awareness, staying straight off the field, all
- 11:20Speaker 7: those things right, Well, so far, there's nothing to indicate
- 11:24Speaker 7: that this kid isn't special on or off the field.
- 11:26Speaker 7: The way he carries himself, there's a humility about him.
- 11:30Speaker 7: He's the only thing I've ever covered that reminds me
- 11:35Speaker 7: of this is Fred Taylor in ninety eight.
- 11:36Speaker 5: I was just about to say that, you know, you
- 11:39Speaker 5: know what you're watching when you watch Fred Taylor right
- 11:44Speaker 5: when Jalen Ramsey was here. I mean, you knew he
- 11:45Speaker 5: was a special athlete. Tony BISSELLI, Tony Bracken's, Jimmy Smith.
- 11:49Speaker 5: There's been a handful of guys that I believe in
- 11:50Speaker 5: Jaguars history had Hall of Fame ability.
- 11:54Speaker 4: That's what I'm watching with him.
- 11:56Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 11:56Speaker 7: The two best rookies that ever covered were Fred and
- 11:58Speaker 7: I covered Bob sam in Indy during a short he
- 12:03Speaker 7: was always hurt.
- 12:04Speaker 6: He played four or five.
- 12:04Speaker 7: Games as a rookie, right, and veterans would go to
- 12:07Speaker 7: the sideline to watch Bob play. Yeah, veterans on defense
- 12:12Speaker 7: go and watch.
- 12:13Speaker 6: Brian Thomas play. There's a magic to the kid.
- 12:16Speaker 5: It's different kind. I mean, you just it's different. You
- 12:18Speaker 5: covered the Patriots with Tom Brady.
- 12:20Speaker 2: You know, it's pretty special to see it, and it's
- 12:22Speaker 2: exciting to see him picking things up so quickly as
- 12:25Speaker 2: a young player, because, as we talk about, there's a
- 12:26Speaker 2: lot of very special.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Athletes that make it to the NFL.
- 12:29Speaker 2: Obviously, it's a lot of people that maybe aren't as
- 12:32Speaker 2: athletically gifted, but they're very very smart and they understand
- 12:34Speaker 2: the game. And to see it both in the same person,
- 12:36Speaker 2: that's when you get something special.
- 12:38Speaker 4: I just want to add one thing. His humility. I
- 12:40Speaker 4: mean the way that he stands.
- 12:42Speaker 5: And I asked him after he had done his news conference, Hey,
- 12:44Speaker 5: can I grab your real quick?
- 12:45Speaker 4: He goes absolutely, yeah.
- 12:46Speaker 5: I mean there are so many players that would say no,
- 12:48Speaker 5: I just talked, I'm not going to do that again.
- 12:50Speaker 5: For a young player like that, who has so much
- 12:52Speaker 5: attention on him to go sure, what do you want
- 12:54Speaker 5: to know?
- 12:54Speaker 7: And the interactions in the locker room that we've all
- 12:56Speaker 7: been in there, there's no diva about this kid with
- 13:01Speaker 7: his teammates. His teammates love him, the veterans want to
- 13:05Speaker 7: see him do well. There's no it's h He's got
- 13:10Speaker 7: a chance to have a memorable legendary type career, and
- 13:17Speaker 7: I know we're going way overboard for a rookie, but
- 13:21Speaker 7: when you see that.
- 13:21Speaker 5: It's there and they moved back twice in the first
- 13:25Speaker 5: round to get him, it blows my mind.
- 13:27Speaker 1: It did.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Yes, they did, And that's that's one of the good
- 13:29Speaker 2: things that came out of that draft.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Absolutely for certain.
- 13:32Speaker 2: We'll talk about the second round draft pick as well,
- 13:33Speaker 2: because Doug Peterson talked a little bit about Mason Smith
- 13:36Speaker 2: yesterday and we haven't seen a ton of him earlier
- 13:38Speaker 2: in the season, but we have seen him lately and
- 13:40Speaker 2: he's been coming on and we've been seeing flashes. And
- 13:43Speaker 2: Doug Peterson talked a little bit about that.
- 13:46Speaker 8: The fact that he's he's gotten a lot of lot
- 13:48Speaker 8: of time, he's gotten a lot of playing time, you know,
- 13:50Speaker 8: and and continues to improve each week, you know, and
- 13:56Speaker 8: and and does some really good things out there, and
- 14:00Speaker 8: and you know, and that's what you want. That's what
- 14:02Speaker 8: you a guy that the player that that we took,
- 14:06Speaker 8: you know, high in the draft, who you know, we
- 14:10Speaker 8: knew probably as the season started they were going to
- 14:13Speaker 8: be some growing pains, you know, with with that, But
- 14:17Speaker 8: the more he's played, the better, the better he's uh,
- 14:20Speaker 8: and he's he's he's fought through injury this season too,
- 14:23Speaker 8: so he's had to deal with that and and so
- 14:26Speaker 8: you know, for young player, he's uh, he's really come
- 14:29Speaker 8: a long way and and I think on the track
- 14:32Speaker 8: to be a, you know, a good player for us.
- 14:35Speaker 2: So obviously Mason Smith, another LSU product, came out in
- 14:37Speaker 2: the second round that was gonna be a little bit
- 14:39Speaker 2: more of a project. Some people felt it was a reach.
- 14:41Speaker 2: John we didn't see a ton of em early. We've
- 14:43Speaker 2: seen him now in the back half of this season.
- 14:45Speaker 2: What can we expect from him next year after seeing
- 14:48Speaker 2: what we've seen the last couple of games.
- 14:49Speaker 6: Well, you know, I think you expect a monster year.
- 14:52Speaker 6: I mean it's it's uh.
- 14:55Speaker 7: I don't go overboard based on four starts, but you're
- 14:58Speaker 7: seeing secks and four starts, two sacks, So that would
- 15:01Speaker 7: translate to what about eight or nine over the course.
- 15:03Speaker 6: Of the season.
- 15:05Speaker 7: If you get that out of defensive tackle, you're getting
- 15:07Speaker 7: big time production.
- 15:09Speaker 6: He was a little bit of a project.
- 15:12Speaker 7: But sometimes with a defensive lineman, if you're saying why
- 15:16Speaker 7: did't he play?
- 15:17Speaker 6: Why didn't play?
- 15:17Speaker 7: And Doug petersonsalk, but that's a harder position to adapt
- 15:21Speaker 7: to than wide receiver because there's more going on. You're
- 15:24Speaker 7: playing against men for the first time in your life
- 15:27Speaker 7: who can beat you with You can't win just on
- 15:30Speaker 7: your athleticism anymore. It seems like Mason is taking that step.
- 15:36Speaker 7: He He's as important to me Brian as the Brian
- 15:40Speaker 7: Thomas junior story, because if he's a guy who can disrupt,
- 15:45Speaker 7: it gives you three guys up front who matter and
- 15:47Speaker 7: that coordinators have to account for. Now you're getting into
- 15:50Speaker 7: a number where you're a hard defensive line to handle.
- 15:53Speaker 5: Yeah, listen, he can be a double digit sack guy.
- 15:56Speaker 5: The Jaguars in there thirty year history had one Garry
- 15:58Speaker 5: Walker on the defensive tackle, not a defensive vent.
- 16:04Speaker 4: Here's the thing.
- 16:04Speaker 5: He's got Chris Jones and Jeffrey Simmons type traits.
- 16:09Speaker 4: Right.
- 16:09Speaker 5: He's tall, he's long, he's powerful, he's disruptive.
- 16:13Speaker 4: That doesn't mean he's going to be that good.
- 16:15Speaker 5: But remember he was the number one recruit in the country,
- 16:19Speaker 5: went to LSU, tore his acl and hadn't.
- 16:21Speaker 4: Had the opportunity to really be who he could be.
- 16:24Speaker 5: By the way, both Jones and Simmons had injuries at
- 16:26Speaker 5: Mississippi State that cost them draft selection as well. Simmons
- 16:31Speaker 5: down at the bottom of the first round and Chris
- 16:34Speaker 5: Jones into the second round. So he's got the ability
- 16:37Speaker 5: to be that kind of a player. Now again, we
- 16:39Speaker 5: talked about Brian Thomas. It's work ethic, it's perseverance, it's
- 16:42Speaker 5: staying healthy, all the.
- 16:43Speaker 4: Things that have to go.
- 16:46Speaker 5: If he is what he's capable of being, well, then
- 16:49Speaker 5: the Jaguars have an absolute gem in the middle of
- 16:51Speaker 5: their defensive line. We haven't seen enough of it yet
- 16:54Speaker 5: this year, but in just glimpses, you can tell that
- 16:56Speaker 5: if they turn that on, if they get that engine fired.
- 17:00Speaker 5: Remember he talks about his dad was an oil field
- 17:01Speaker 5: worker and his mom was a doctor. Is both of
- 17:04Speaker 5: them are. He's got the background, He understands what work
- 17:08Speaker 5: is all about. He talks about it extensively. I'm really
- 17:11Speaker 5: excited about his future.
- 17:12Speaker 6: I think it's encouraging too.
- 17:14Speaker 7: He talked about it publicly and didn't mind it that
- 17:16Speaker 7: he wasn't quite doing exactly what he needed to do
- 17:18Speaker 7: at the beginning.
- 17:18Speaker 6: Of the year.
- 17:20Speaker 7: Guess what these people are twenty two to twenty three
- 17:23Speaker 7: years old. You're in a complete different situation. It takes guys.
- 17:27Speaker 7: Different guys get it at a different pace, right, But
- 17:31Speaker 7: to me, the fact that he is aware of that,
- 17:34Speaker 7: knows and is working toward finding his way to do it.
- 17:39Speaker 7: If that stays true, he's if he's being real with that,
- 17:44Speaker 7: then I think he's going to be a real force.
- 17:47Speaker 7: And again, that gives you three forces up front. That
- 17:50Speaker 7: makes you a hard defensive line to block, and at
- 17:53Speaker 7: some point this defensive line needs to get hard to block.
- 17:56Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a great point, John. I felt like when
- 17:59Speaker 2: Mason was making that point about himself, saying I wasn't
- 18:01Speaker 2: quite preparing the way I need to be being in
- 18:03Speaker 2: the building and that makes this offseason a big deal.
- 18:05Speaker 2: And also having the self actualization to realize that at
- 18:08Speaker 2: his age, because sometimes it takes people a lot longer, and.
- 18:11Speaker 6: I've known people who never get that.
- 18:13Speaker 5: But Fred Taylor talked about it after his rookie season too,
- 18:16Speaker 5: and he had a great rookie season, but he talked
- 18:18Speaker 5: about how he had to get better at preparing, how
- 18:21Speaker 5: he ate what he did at night. So the great
- 18:24Speaker 5: ones are very aware.
- 18:25Speaker 4: Of what it takes to be great.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Yes, all good signs say, but this we're gonna give
- 18:29Speaker 2: you our predictions for the headlines on Monday after this
- 18:31Speaker 2: game against the Colts. Sutdeth is Florida's trusted and reliable

- 18:45Speaker 2: you can visit suttith dot com slash Jacks Welcome back
- 18:57Speaker 2: into jag Dan. We're gonna do our best to predict
- 19:00Speaker 2: the headlines for Monday today and what we think it
- 19:03Speaker 2: will be after the final game of the season. So, Brian,
- 19:06Speaker 2: when you're thinking about what we're going to be talking
- 19:07Speaker 2: about on Monday, what will it be?
- 19:09Speaker 4: Horsepower?
- 19:11Speaker 5: I think this is a tough matchup for the Jaguars
- 19:14Speaker 5: because their defense doesn't stop the run particularly well, and
- 19:17Speaker 5: if Joe flackos the quarterback, they don't stop the pass
- 19:20Speaker 5: very well. And I anticipate we'll see Anthony Richardson and
- 19:23Speaker 5: Jonathan Taylor for the first time together, and I think that'll.
- 19:26Speaker 4: Be too much for the Jaguars. Listen, I get it.
- 19:30Speaker 5: The Colts went in and they laid down like dogs
- 19:33Speaker 5: in New York last week. I mean, just what a
- 19:35Speaker 5: terrible look for them in the playoff hunt to lose
- 19:38Speaker 5: to a team that had lost ten in a row
- 19:40Speaker 5: and was playing for the number.
- 19:42Speaker 4: One overall pick.
- 19:43Speaker 5: By the way, that's the second time they've done that
- 19:46Speaker 5: in the last four years. They got something that's wrong
- 19:48Speaker 5: with the DNA of that franchise right now. But I
- 19:51Speaker 5: do think that the Jaguars are going to struggle against
- 19:53Speaker 5: that combination of Richardson and Jonathan Taylor. And I don't
- 19:57Speaker 5: know what the score will be, but I think Jonathan
- 19:59Speaker 5: Taylor a chance to have another big day.
- 20:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:01Speaker 7: I kind of wonder if the Colts will care about this,
- 20:04Speaker 7: so just based on what they did last week, and
- 20:07Speaker 7: then there's a lot of there's a lot of stuff
- 20:09Speaker 7: in the water right now up there.
- 20:10Speaker 6: Uh, that's always hard to predict, but it is a
- 20:15Speaker 6: tough matchup.
- 20:16Speaker 7: If the Colts were in it, I would favor them,
- 20:19Speaker 7: except for the fact that they seem lately to lose
- 20:22Speaker 7: games at the end of the season that you normally
- 20:26Speaker 7: think that teams are gonna win because of motivation.
- 20:28Speaker 6: So I think the Jags are still fighting.
- 20:32Speaker 7: In these last five games they've been eliminated, they've won twice,
- 20:35Speaker 7: they've played close.
- 20:35Speaker 6: In the others, so I think it'll be close. And
- 20:38Speaker 6: I think j always figured a way to pull it out.
- 20:39Speaker 4: So I went with.
- 20:42Speaker 7: Closing fast and for my guy Dewey up there, because
- 20:45Speaker 7: I think they'll have a.
- 20:46Speaker 1: Pick six sixth Calfday last week pick six.
- 20:50Speaker 7: I think he'll have a pick six and the and
- 20:52Speaker 7: the lasting image of the season will be the four
- 20:54Speaker 7: locks going on the sidelines of Lukasolo State.
- 20:56Speaker 5: If Anthony Richardson plays possible plays, but he throws it
- 21:01Speaker 5: like seven times a game.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Well he'll throw to the other guy kid, all right,
- 21:05Speaker 1: that's also true.
- 21:05Speaker 6: He can find doing in the flat.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Sure, why not? I am similar too On.
- 21:10Speaker 2: I am going with the I don't know what the
- 21:11Speaker 2: effort level is gonna be with the Colts this week,
- 21:14Speaker 2: so I went with one for the road. For our
- 21:16Speaker 2: boy Mac, it's a final win on the way out
- 21:19Speaker 2: as he tries to find a new landing spot.
- 21:20Speaker 1: I don't think he'll be back here next year. I
- 21:22Speaker 1: would love him as a.
- 21:23Speaker 2: Backup, but I don't think that's gonna work out that way.
- 21:25Speaker 2: I think he's gonna try to figure something out somewhere else,
- 21:27Speaker 2: so hopefully he gets a win. I think that chemistry
- 21:30Speaker 2: with Brian Thomas Junior, why not give him the ball?
- 21:32Speaker 2: Have another good day for him as he tries to
- 21:34Speaker 2: finish out his rookie season. So I think that'll lead
- 21:36Speaker 2: to a Jaguars win. Let's be optimistic till the end.
- 21:39Speaker 2: That's what I'm gonna do.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Stay with us. We will tell you a little bit
- 21:42Speaker 1: more about what's coming up this week and some Pro
- 21:44Speaker 1: Bowl announcements.
- 21:52Speaker 2: Jags fans, if you want customized Jaguars furniture for your home,
- 21:55Speaker 2: checkout zipchare dot com about all the customizable options.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Zpchair is furniture for fans.
- 22:02Speaker 7: Jones free Blitzer right which Jones gets it out quickly.
- 22:06Speaker 8: Just masterful from Jones as he finds Thomas to the
- 22:11Speaker 8: Jacksonville took down.
- 22:17Speaker 6: It's wow, it's too slow park.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Brian Thomas Junior miked up last week against the Titans.
- 22:33Speaker 2: He had a great day and doesn't talk all the time,
- 22:36Speaker 2: but when he does, it's on the field and it
- 22:37Speaker 2: is very entertaining.
- 22:38Speaker 1: So you definitely want to check that out.
- 22:39Speaker 5: Can you imagine what he's going to be if this
- 22:42Speaker 5: offense can find another receiver that's consistent for them, and
- 22:45Speaker 5: the tight end is back and in a position to
- 22:48Speaker 5: spread the field out for him and they play consistently
- 22:51Speaker 5: well on offense, which we haven't seen since the midpoint
- 22:53Speaker 5: of last season. That kid is going to be so
- 22:56Speaker 5: much better than he's been this year. He's been really good.
- 22:58Speaker 7: When he saw a couple of times early when Trevor
- 23:01Speaker 7: who throws a good deep ball, when Trevor found him
- 23:05Speaker 7: it as they were starting to build.
- 23:07Speaker 6: That Yeah, he's he's we've gone over it. There's we
- 23:12Speaker 6: have shows in the off season just.
- 23:14Speaker 1: About guess I'm sure we'll just be about with Brian.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Some of the the Pro Bowl announcements coming out today,
- 23:18Speaker 2: Brian Thoms Junior was up for that, not named a starter,
- 23:21Speaker 2: but in the mix in terms of alternates, so depending
- 23:24Speaker 2: who decides to go, he may be ending up a
- 23:26Speaker 2: Pro Bowler this year as well. But two Pro bowlers
- 23:29Speaker 2: we do know from the Jaguars, of course, coming from
- 23:31Speaker 2: special teams, we may have many questions about this team
- 23:33Speaker 2: at times. Special teams is not one of those. Rosmatis
- 23:36Speaker 2: Sis second year in a row. He was an All
- 23:37Speaker 2: Pro last year as well, and Logan Cook making the
- 23:40Speaker 2: cut as well.
- 23:41Speaker 5: Logan Cook is one of the best hunters that I've
- 23:46Speaker 5: seen in thirty years of playing this game. And people
- 23:49Speaker 5: will make jokes well Yeah, the Jaguars of needed their punter,
- 23:51Speaker 5: and they certainly have in his time here. But his
- 23:54Speaker 5: ability to just flip the field is such a weapon.
- 23:57Speaker 5: If this defense was playing well, people would realize just
- 24:01Speaker 5: what a weapon he is. He really can make a
- 24:04Speaker 5: huge difference. And you don't want to be using your
- 24:06Speaker 5: punter too much, but when you use this one, he
- 24:09Speaker 5: can change the game for you.
- 24:10Speaker 7: Yeah, and he's been really consistent at a high, high
- 24:14Speaker 7: level for a long time.
- 24:15Speaker 6: Punters can sort of.
- 24:17Speaker 7: It can be tough to get Pro Bol recognition as
- 24:20Speaker 7: a punter because sometimes you get it in a year
- 24:23Speaker 7: where you shouldn't, et cetera, et cetera. It's hard to
- 24:27Speaker 7: be like an eight time Pro Bowl punter. There's so
- 24:29Speaker 7: many So good for Logan, who has been really good
- 24:33Speaker 7: for a long time. And ross he talks about long snappers. Second,
- 24:40Speaker 7: hearing always been the best.
- 24:41Speaker 6: In the league. And a Pro Bowl mustache too, by
- 24:44Speaker 6: the way, that's low.
- 24:45Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 24:45Speaker 5: Yeah, that's Logan's first Pro Bowl, is it not. Yes,
- 24:49Speaker 5: So he's the first Pro Bol punter for the Jaguars
- 24:51Speaker 5: since nineteen ninety seven when Brian Barker went.
- 24:53Speaker 4: So congratulations to Logan.
- 24:54Speaker 7: And a word Brian Thomas Junior is the first alternate,
- 24:57Speaker 7: by the way, which means a very high percentage chance
- 25:00Speaker 7: that he goes. My anticipation is that he will not
- 25:03Speaker 7: have to wait for that honor in very many seasons,
- 25:05Speaker 7: and he's gonna be there. Trayvon Walker the fifth alternate
- 25:09Speaker 7: and Josh Allen the fourth alternate on defense. Again, I
- 25:13Speaker 7: think if the Jagg's having a better season, those guys
- 25:16Speaker 7: would be higher, But those are the guys that I
- 25:17Speaker 7: know about in terms of alternates.
- 25:18Speaker 2: So we'll keep an eye on that and let you
- 25:20Speaker 2: know next week if anything changes in regards to that.
- 25:22Speaker 1: Either way. We'll be back on Monday to talk about
- 25:24Speaker 1: the final game of the season. Joy Weekend, Enjoy the game.
