Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_04: Alright, before we start the episode, I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who's listened to this last year.
- 0:05SPEAKER_04: I I honestly did not expect it to grow as much as it did over the over the course of the year and for everyone to reach out and say how much they loved it and it to resonate with so many people, so I'm really appreciative of that.
- 0:19SPEAKER_04: It was literally just a passion project I wanted to start because I thought it'd be fun.
- 0:22SPEAKER_04: And yet so many people tell me every day, like what bad movies they love and what episodes they want to hear about and what guests they want to have on.
- 0:29SPEAKER_04: So it's really been an amazing experience this year.
- 0:33SPEAKER_04: I also wanted to announce that I've actually started a Patreon for the podcast, and so if you want to, you know, get access to episodes like up to a week early, um if you want to get a shout-out on the episodes, um you can get ad-free access to the episodes if you're sick of hearing that same ad over and over again.
- 0:50SPEAKER_04: Or um if you subscribe at the highest tier, you can even get access to the video version of the podcast, uh, which is a nice treat, just uh you know, get to see my face and see my guest faces.
- 1:02SPEAKER_04: Um so if you want to do that, you just need to go to patreon.com forward slash Yannis Cove.
- 1:07SPEAKER_04: And I'm even doing a deal right now where if you uh are one of the first ten to subscribe, even at the five pounds uh tier, then I will be sending you some merch.
- 1:16SPEAKER_04: So that's a nice treat, I think.
- 1:18SPEAKER_04: So yeah, go to patreon.com forward slash Yannis Cove.
- 1:22SPEAKER_04: Now let's get into the episode.
- 1:36SPEAKER_04: Welcome to everyone to Cryptic.
- 1:38SPEAKER_04: Don't worry, guess if the movie rated below 40% on What's the Tomato and tells us why Critic got it wrong?
- 1:43SPEAKER_04: I'm your host, Yanis Co.
- 1:45SPEAKER_04: I already protected Don't you for 10 years later is the era of his weight.
- 1:50SPEAKER_04: It's the one year anniversary, and what better way to celebrate than to bring back my first guest?
- 1:54SPEAKER_04: It's Ari Ann Antipootri.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: Hi, Anis, how are you?
- 2:01SPEAKER_04: Good, how are you doing?
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: I'm okay.
- 2:05SPEAKER_04: Uh yeah, it's welcome back.
- 2:07SPEAKER_01: Thank you for having me back uh a hundred episodes later.
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: Congratulations, by the way.
- 2:12SPEAKER_04: Fifty episodes, it's not a hundred.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: It's not a hundred, shit.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: Who hit a hundred?
- 2:17SPEAKER_04: I don't know who hit a hundred, it's not me.
- 2:19SPEAKER_01: Oh fuck.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: Congratulations on fifty.
- 2:21SPEAKER_01: Um congratulations on the yeah.
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: It's a year, basically.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: That's the only reason I'm here.
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: It's a year.
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: Well, it's not the only reason I'm doing it.
- 2:28SPEAKER_04: I wanted you have I wanted to come back on anyway, but Ah, thanks, man.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: And I've completely just butchered it, like coming back.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: Who the fuck it hit a hundred?
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: I'm not good with it.
- 2:37SPEAKER_04: No idea.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm sorry.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: Um my brain's not working.
- 2:40SPEAKER_04: That's I haven't seen anyone hit a hundred, so like I don't I don't know.
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, shit, cool, right.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: Someone you thank you for having me.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: Someone I know maybe, but thank you for having me back.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: It's an honor.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: I was on the first one, that much I remember.
- 2:52SPEAKER_04: Um Yeah, you were the you were the original guest.
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: The inaugural guest, yeah.
- 2:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 2:57SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 2:58SPEAKER_04: Um and you you came on last time to talk about Showgirls, and such a fun episode.
- 3:05SPEAKER_04: So such a great way of like starting the show.
- 3:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, with like the worst movie ever made, ever.
- 3:11SPEAKER_04: Oh, I've seen worse in the in the in the worst than showgirls for a show, yeah.
- 3:16SPEAKER_02: I've seen I've seen what you've been watching in all of those films I will I will defend to my grave.
- 3:22SPEAKER_04: I still haven't seen You Don't Know Me.
- 3:25SPEAKER_04: I'm waiting to see it at the Prince Charles.
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh, yeah, please do it.
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: It's such a good time.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: I feel like I've slowly poisoned um my former co-workers to do that double bill.
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: Because I kept talking about it when we were showing it for uh BFI film festival two years ago.
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: Um just being like, you've got to see this, you've got to see this, and then now they've they put it on as like a do-year-one double bill, which is really cute.
- 3:48SPEAKER_04: Um I know it's like released, it's funny let out, isn't it, to like watch online and everything.
- 3:54SPEAKER_04: So I'm gonna do a video game, yeah.
- 3:56SPEAKER_04: I was tempted and then I saw that they were like doing a showing of it, and I was like, I'm gonna wait.
- 4:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I'm gonna go watch it there.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: It's a good time.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: It's with also like the the best time I had watching it.
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: It was with with a in a room full of people that also loved Showgirls for what it was.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: So yeah, you're gonna have a great time.
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: Like, oh I can't wait.
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: I can't wait.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: Literally, like tell me when you've seen it.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: Like that we could talk about.
- 4:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you're gonna be the f you're the first person I think of when I think of Showgirls now.
- 4:21SPEAKER_01: So thank you.
- 4:22SPEAKER_01: That's that's the desired effect.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: Um I want to be the first person people think of when they like think of Showgirls, when they see Showgirls, and when they think of Adam Sandler, that's the only like Adam Sandler specifically wearing basketball shorts.
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: I want people to think of me.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: Um that's like my entire personality.
- 4:40SPEAKER_04: I just I did just did an Adam Sandler podcast.
- 4:43SPEAKER_04: Oh my god, incredible.
- 4:44SPEAKER_04: I was guest I guessed it on uh someone's podcast.
- 4:46SPEAKER_04: Sick.
- 4:47SPEAKER_02: What film did you talk about?
- 4:48SPEAKER_04: I th well cut gems.
- 4:51SPEAKER_04: What do you think I talked about first of all?
- 4:52SPEAKER_04: I picked it.
- 4:53SPEAKER_01: You picked it.
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: Fuck, did you pick click?
- 4:56SPEAKER_04: No.
- 4:57SPEAKER_04: No.
- 4:57SPEAKER_04: I wish I picked click.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: Shit, what did you punch drunk love?
- 5:01SPEAKER_04: No, well, I picked it ironically.
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: You picked it ironically?
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: Was it Hubie Halloween?
- 5:07SPEAKER_04: No, I picked Jack and Jill.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: I knew oh man, Jack and Jill's the only other one.
- 5:11SPEAKER_04: Jack and Jill.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: What an experience that was.
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: What a ride.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: What a ride.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: That set gender, like you know, gender rights back many, many years.
- 5:23SPEAKER_04: It was it was not fun.
- 5:25SPEAKER_04: Um we had a fun time talking about it.
- 5:27SPEAKER_04: I think that's actually coming out the it might be coming out the same day that this comes out.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: Ooh, podcast double bill, yeah.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, um, but yeah, go check that out.
- 5:36SPEAKER_04: It's definitely coming out the same week.
- 5:38SPEAKER_04: I know that.
- 5:40SPEAKER_04: Um but yeah, so I figured 50 episodes one year.
- 5:47SPEAKER_04: What better way than to have you come back on and do the opposite of what we did last time and talk about a film that we both hate that everyone else loves.
- 5:58SPEAKER_02: Which is like the the the antithesis of your actual podcast.
- 6:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:02SPEAKER_02: I like that.
- 6:03SPEAKER_02: We're just gonna be the angry version of the podcast.
- 6:06SPEAKER_02: The angry version, yeah.
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: It's nuts.
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we're not defending anything, we're just you know, prosecuting it.
- 6:11SPEAKER_04: Um I've defended enough.
- 6:15SPEAKER_04: I've defended 49 movies in the meantime, so why not?
- 6:18SPEAKER_02: 49 films that sometimes don't need a defense or should not be defended, but um they're all great nonetheless.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: Um I think it's because also we we both come from like a yeah, like a film school background, so we're like super into shitting on films that people like.
- 6:38SPEAKER_04: That's so true.
- 6:40SPEAKER_04: Yeah, for sure.
- 6:42SPEAKER_04: Um now I've kept this as a surprise.
- 6:45SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna keep this as a surprise in the notes, so nobody needs to know what we're actually criticising until they come come to listen to it.
- 6:52SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 6:53SPEAKER_04: We are going to talk about Dunkirk.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: Christopher Nolan's 2007.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk.
- 6:59SPEAKER_01: Dunkirk, yeah.
- 7:02SPEAKER_04: The 2017 war movie.
- 7:05SPEAKER_04: World War II movie.
- 7:06SPEAKER_02: World War II movie, yeah.
- 7:08SPEAKER_02: I keep forgetting which war, which is super embarrassing.
- 7:11SPEAKER_02: Uh because of what I'm saying.
- 7:12SPEAKER_04: I mean they it's like it could literally be other than the fact that it's in Dunkirk, it could be anything.
- 7:21SPEAKER_02: It could literally be anything.
- 7:23SPEAKER_04: There is nothing related.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:27SPEAKER_01: What are your like what's your relationship with war movies?
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: Like, has someone who's not a huge fan.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: Usually fair.
- 7:34SPEAKER_04: I like a couple of them.
- 7:35SPEAKER_04: I like but I like the ones where they show the horrors of war more than anything.
- 7:40SPEAKER_04: So I like uh Full Metal Jacket, Apocalypse Now.
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: Great film.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: Um classic film school films, also, by the way.
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: Like Yeah.
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: Films that everybody likes.
- 7:52SPEAKER_04: I don't tend to like yeah.
- 7:54SPEAKER_04: But I I also don't tend to like the what's it like Hacksaw Ridge or Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: You know, any of the Mel Gibson stuff, yeah.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: Um other than the fact it's Mel Gibson, yeah.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:07SPEAKER_01: What about you?
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: I have a weird relationship with war films because my dad is like hitting his midlife crisis.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: Um I I I can say that because he's downstairs right now.
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: Um and he really likes war movies.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: Um, as I think many men over the age of like 52, right?
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: Right, they're like obsessed and I'm like, you weren't there, get over it.
- 8:28SPEAKER_01: But um my dad is really into all the American ones, um over over the the British ones, I'm not sure why, but um I only saw like I've only seen the films that my dad saw.
- 8:39SPEAKER_01: Um so yeah, so I've seen Apocalypse Now, you know, full metal jacket, all that.
- 8:44SPEAKER_01: Um I saw 1917 uh just because my friend is in it for like five seconds because he was an extra, he was literally in the back reading a book, and I could recognize him.
- 8:54SPEAKER_02: He was so out of focus, but I could recognise him because he grew this ridiculous mustache and facial hair that he had on for ages, because they shot that for quite a bit, and then I was like, I I knew it was you because you had that stupid mustache on that I would complain about um when we were at UD.
- 9:09SPEAKER_02: Um so yeah, that's the only yeah, war-related film that I like 1917 was the last film I saw in cinemas.
- 9:17SPEAKER_04: No way, before the pandemic.
- 9:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah, before the pandemic.
- 9:20SPEAKER_04: I haven't seen anything since then.
- 9:21SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, the last film I saw I think might have been Sonic the Hedgehog.
- 9:26SPEAKER_04: It was almost Sonic the Hedgehog for me.
- 9:28SPEAKER_04: Oh I was like, should I go see something?
- 9:32SPEAKER_04: I know this is gonna be the last thing I see, and then I'm like, no, no, I'll leave it.
- 9:37SPEAKER_04: I'm not gonna chance it.
- 9:38SPEAKER_01: I had like a really odd track record right before the the you know pandemic broke out.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: Um I watched cats, um, New Year's Eve, and then I saw Birds of Prey, and then I saw Sonic the Hedgehog, and then that was it.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: Everything was over.
- 9:53SPEAKER_04: Like my last two were cats and then 1917.
- 9:56SPEAKER_04: So it was almost cats as well.
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the Academy Awards, right?
- 9:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: Uh jeez, cats.
- 10:02SPEAKER_04: I wish I'd seen Birds, I wish Birds of Prey had been my last one.
- 10:05SPEAKER_04: Although I did like 19, I actually did like 1917, speaking about that.
- 10:08SPEAKER_01: Me too, me too.
- 10:10SPEAKER_01: Which I I think is like the cousin of you know Dunkirk.
- 10:13SPEAKER_04: It feels very similar to this, but like better better made.
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: Better made, and I think has more interesting.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: More interesting.
- 10:20SPEAKER_01: More interesting because like you're just staying with these characters and you you you get to know them as opposed to sort of doing the which when I first saw it, I first saw Dunkirk in theatres when it came out.
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: I saw it twice in theaters.
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: Um because somebody, a certain somebody is in it.
- 10:36SPEAKER_02: Um I first watched it, I was like, oh man, it's cool he's doing like the whole air, land and sea thing.
- 10:45SPEAKER_02: Um, because that's where the the film is set, you know, air, land and sea during the you know, button of dungeon.
- 10:52SPEAKER_04: Oh my god.
- 10:53SPEAKER_04: I don't know why I didn't even connect that.
- 10:54SPEAKER_01: First thing I clocked was that, because I was like, oh shit, the people on the beach, and then they go to freaking Mark Ryland's on the in his little boat um with Barry Keegan, and then in the sky you got bloody Tom Hardy and kind of just like, oh yeah, it's all the three different like aspects of war, but then it felt very just like detached because I didn't care about any of them.
- 11:15SPEAKER_04: That's my biggest complaint about this movie is that I don't connect to any like I cannot tell you anything about any of the characters.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: And not a single thing.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: And other than that's Harry Styles, that's it.
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: Like that's it.
- 11:28SPEAKER_04: Harry Styles acting, I will say this, very badly.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: Very bad.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: He's he's doing so much.
- 11:33SPEAKER_04: I don't think he's good in this.
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: He's doing too much.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: Like Harold's.
- 11:37SPEAKER_04: It feels very like over the top, and it feels like he's like, I'm acting right now.
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's like I'm not in a boy band right now.
- 11:44SPEAKER_01: I'm an actor.
- 11:45SPEAKER_01: Um, which is that it goes back to that whole thing of like I think so many people are apprehensive about uh musicians or people that are already famous having you know film careers.
- 11:54SPEAKER_01: Like this was his first film, and I think it's that whole thing of like, yeah, you got this because you've already been famous as opposed to people that still have to work their asses off to get on screen anyway.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: Um, but it's it was weird just because like I don't know, you everybody was was was you didn't everybody had uh similar faces, you don't really know everybody was in the same uniform, um yeah you know you didn't really care about any of them and none of them spoke much, you know.
- 12:21SPEAKER_04: No, it's very, very limited dialogue in this book.
- 12:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and and horrendous sound design, if I do say so myself, which is like I don't know what Nolan's been doing, but he's been whoever if he's not in the booth mixing, or he probably shouldn't be, because at this rate I can't hear anything other than either an overwhelming score or special effects sounds that are just in your fucking face.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah, no, is is is it was weird because I think the thing with war films, like what we were talking about, like even the the American ones or the British ones, whichever war it is, you follow if not a character, or like uh you either follow a character or like a caricature of somebody at war.
- 13:05SPEAKER_01: You at least have a way in if you if the whole point of the film is to talk about you know the experience of war.
- 13:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:13SPEAKER_01: What this felt like, oh you know what, we're just gonna go on a beach and gonna we're gonna do some some loud explosions and pieces.
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: Set big set pieces, a whole film that's all right.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: A whole set piece.
- 13:25SPEAKER_01: A whole set piece.
- 13:26SPEAKER_01: This is his rehearsal for Tenet, um Which I liked.
- 13:31SPEAKER_04: Um I still haven't seen well, I started watching Tenet, got really bored and turned it off.
- 13:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 13:37SPEAKER_01: It's it's it's one of those things where like it was meant to be uh one of the yeah, it's meant to be seen in cinemas where you can't escape it instead of somewhere where you can have your phone on and just be like I'm bored or I can go to sleep.
- 13:48SPEAKER_01: But yeah.
- 13:50SPEAKER_04: I think one thing that I'm noticing about Christopher Nolan is that since inception, I'm not a fan of his.
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he really fell off, huh?
- 14:01SPEAKER_04: I don't like I think he became a like a uh a d what's the term?
- 14:07SPEAKER_04: A like a sellout?
- 14:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but uh I I think he became a like a parody of himself.
- 14:14SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 14:16SPEAKER_02: For sure.
- 14:17SPEAKER_04: So he like really lent into all of the things that people expect of him.
- 14:21SPEAKER_04: Like there's the confusing plot, there's the um for no reason, there's the terrible sound in everything.
- 14:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 14:28SPEAKER_04: There's Tom Hardy.
- 14:30SPEAKER_04: Tom Hardy, there's whom I love.
- 14:33SPEAKER_02: Um but yeah.
- 14:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I do.
- 14:37SPEAKER_04: I I just haven't been a fan of it.
- 14:38SPEAKER_04: I I I I know a lot of people love his movies.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: Especially this one.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: Especially this one, yeah.
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:47SPEAKER_01: Which is which is bizarre.
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: Because my favourite Nolan film is The Prestige, which is like the most I love the Prestige.
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: It's it's a great film.
- 14:53SPEAKER_01: It's the most basic film bro thing I've probably ever said in my life that I love The Prestige.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: And I really do enjoy the Dark Knight trilogy.
- 15:00SPEAKER_04: Um but well I I like the first two.
- 15:02SPEAKER_04: I'm not a huge film.
- 15:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the first everybody hates everybody hates the third one.
- 15:05SPEAKER_04: I don't hate the third one, I'm just like not it's just not the same level.
- 15:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, can you get me on next time to talk about the third one?
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: Um it's a film I'll vehemently defend.
- 15:14SPEAKER_01: Um but um yeah, no, Inception felt like he was just explaining what his film was about to you as it was going on.
- 15:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:22SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, Dark Knight Rises was hey, I've got some more IMAX cameras to show off.
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: Um and Marion Cottiard, and then um Dunkirk was just like, I'm gonna do something different.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: It's not gonna be quirky, it's not gonna be time travely.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna be some I'm gonna do something different and British and boring.
- 15:45SPEAKER_04: Um I love you doing the American accent by saying I'm gonna do something British.
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm gonna do something British and boring, which is uh what he ended up doing.
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: British and boring, yeah.
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: Something very English and boring.
- 15:57SPEAKER_01: Um I think what also feels really um like flat about Dunkirk is that you know how lots of war films are really clear on a perspective, and I know they're meant to sort of show it from the perspectives of British, like the British forces.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: Um even though who the fuck wants to listen to them like enough.
- 16:15SPEAKER_04: Um I don't heaven.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: Just your empire is gone, give it give it a rest.
- 16:21SPEAKER_04: Um That's another thing we'll get into it later on, but yeah.
- 16:26SPEAKER_02: The whole film is actually about that, just being like they're the British not being able to let go of the fact that their empire is gone.
- 16:33SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah, no, you you f you don't feel any sense of of pride, you don't feel any sense of camaraderie, you don't feel any sense of of like uh I don't know that that sort of motivating feeling that that people get watching films like this.
- 16:49SPEAKER_01: No patriotism, um don't like that word.
- 16:54SPEAKER_04: It feels so patriotic as well, and at the same time, like it's at the same time it doesn't.
- 17:00SPEAKER_04: It's like well well I don't care.
- 17:02SPEAKER_04: I do not care about the I don't care about anyone in this movie.
- 17:06SPEAKER_04: Like I have no connection to anyone.
- 17:08SPEAKER_04: I like and like there's that whole thing of like, oh well, it's supposed to show that they're all like f nameless and like uh we're all forgotten by history.
- 17:19SPEAKER_04: There's so many of them and everything.
- 17:20SPEAKER_04: But like at the same time why why make a whole film about that?
- 17:26SPEAKER_04: Like why Exactly like why not celebrate people who were involved in it like specifically, like because that's what war films do.
- 17:35SPEAKER_01: If if he wanted to be more subversive about it and you know how like um yeah, but that like like you were saying, instead of instead of you know, these are all people forgotten by history, why not celebrate some of them instead of um if the message was trying to be like actually um you know we shouldn't be feeling like this about war films, we shouldn't be um I don't know, overly, you know, celebratory of the force, the the massive force that have oppressed many, many, you know, groups of people all over the world.
- 18:07SPEAKER_01: Um, but that wasn't his message.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: That's like something we can read into.
- 18:11SPEAKER_01: Not exactly, exactly.
- 18:13SPEAKER_01: He had no stance whatsoever to take about this battle, and it didn't even feel like a battle.
- 18:18SPEAKER_01: Um obviously that's like what happened.
- 18:21SPEAKER_01: You don't see anyone they fight.
- 18:23SPEAKER_01: You don't see you don't see any fighting because he was the maybe the point he was trying to make it was like, yeah, they're not gonna save these kids because then they don't give a shit, but at the same time, he didn't give a shit.
- 18:32SPEAKER_01: It didn't feel like he gave a shit the fact that they didn't give a shit.
- 18:35SPEAKER_01: Does that make any sense?
- 18:36SPEAKER_01: But um yeah.
- 18:38SPEAKER_04: I yeah, I don't feel I feel like he I I don't know.
- 18:42SPEAKER_04: I it it feels very much like he was just like, oh, I'm so proud of the our country and what we did and I'm gonna I have to I want to show some like nice explosions to show how much I loved it.
- 18:59SPEAKER_01: And how much I'm really good at shooting on boats.
- 19:01SPEAKER_01: Um I'm really good at shooting on the boat.
- 19:02SPEAKER_04: And I'm gonna shoot on film because I am I'm that guy.
- 19:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 19:06SPEAKER_04: I I have to own I can only shoot on film because there was no other way this could look normal unless I shot on film.
- 19:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 19:13SPEAKER_02: There's no way this could look normal because that's the thing.
- 19:15SPEAKER_02: He can't he doesn't do normal.
- 19:17SPEAKER_01: Like he's been he's again, he's like boxed himself in to become this quirky girl.
- 19:21SPEAKER_01: Um I can only shoot on film.
- 19:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, do you shoot Tenet on film?
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: Um he shot that IMAX.
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: Actually, don't know if he shot that on film or not.
- 19:30SPEAKER_01: But um Tenet looks I really like Tenet.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: It looks fucking sick, but it does follow that same thing Dunkirk has where it's like really blue, really it tries to be really slick, do you know what I mean?
- 19:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: Um but at least Tenet, you you you might not necessarily care about the characters, um, but you know, you don't have to follow so many of them, and you kind of they have in their minds a clear objective.
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: Whereas here, again, I think if he's trying to portray a story of survival of the people that got left behind, of of the failings of the British Empire, it doesn't feel that way.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: It doesn't.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: It just feels like this is it just it feels like a really long show reel.
- 20:10SPEAKER_01: Many of my classmates um will crucify me for that because I remember yeah, right.
- 20:17SPEAKER_01: Um I remember coming back, I was still at uni when this came out.
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: I remember coming back to uni, and the the boys that were sitting in the front were like, oh my god, like Dunk Oak is like the best film I saw all summer.
- 20:27SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, Do you do you not watch any more movies?
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: Um which is very pretentious of of me and both of us to take that science, but at the same time, like, nah, like like come on, like there are better war movies.
- 20:41SPEAKER_01: There are better movies about people flying around in planes.
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: Have you seen Top Gun?
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: Like they're um anyway, you're saying sorry.
- 20:51SPEAKER_04: Um I was gonna say like it's uh I can't remember what I was gonna say actually.
- 20:57SPEAKER_04: Sorry.
- 20:57SPEAKER_04: I don't remember where I was going.
- 20:59SPEAKER_04: Um like it's a okay.
- 21:05SPEAKER_04: So it's 92%.
- 21:07SPEAKER_00: Oh no, not the Certified Fresh.
- 21:12SPEAKER_04: The very first Certified Fresh movie that we're doing.
- 21:15SPEAKER_04: Um The only we might The only one.
- 21:20SPEAKER_04: Um and it's 81% from the audience.
- 21:23SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 21:24SPEAKER_04: Which it's kind of surprising.
- 21:26SPEAKER_04: I thought the audience would be higher.
- 21:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 21:28SPEAKER_04: Given like given everyone's reaction to it.
- 21:30SPEAKER_04: I thought it was gonna be higher than 81.
- 21:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 21:33SPEAKER_01: Sure, yeah.
- 21:34SPEAKER_01: The One Direction fandom was not involved in that.
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: Like they it would have been 91 if they were they were pushing it.
- 21:41SPEAKER_01: Um and they were.
- 21:42SPEAKER_01: Anyway, sorry.
- 21:43SPEAKER_01: I digress.
- 21:44SPEAKER_04: I remember what I was gonna say.
- 21:46SPEAKER_04: You told me before uh before we were recording, like that you watched it last night.
- 21:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah and then Um Yeah, so I watched it last night to catch up to for this.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: Just to remind myself of what happened in the film.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: And then I woke up this morning being like, what the fuck happened in Dunkirk?
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: Well, I don't know if it's my brain that's not working right now, or the fact that nothing in this film was actually visually memorable.
- 22:14SPEAKER_02: Um but I rewatched it again and it only got up to the middle, being like, no way this happened.
- 22:19SPEAKER_02: Like, no way I watched this yesterday and the same things happened.
- 22:24SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 22:25SPEAKER_01: Um but now that I've like sort of it's coming back to me, I remember certain pieces, the more character-driven pieces were like they're inside that they're hiding in that boat.
- 22:36SPEAKER_01: Um Finn Fionn Whitehead and Harry Styles and them lot, and they're like, This guy's a fucking this guy's nothing.
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because it's just Harry Styles overacting to save his life.
- 22:46SPEAKER_04: Um probably a lot of dialogue in that scene as well, ironically, because they're trying to keep quiet.
- 22:51SPEAKER_01: Exactly, exactly.
- 22:52SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh, yeah, like oh you idiot.
- 22:55SPEAKER_01: Um I remember the scene on the boat where um uh Killian Murphy uh nearly kills the kid from killing of a sacred deer.
- 23:04SPEAKER_01: Uh that's him, right?
- 23:05SPEAKER_01: Barry Keegan.
- 23:07SPEAKER_01: Is it Keegan here?
- 23:08SPEAKER_01: I never know how to say his name.
- 23:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think it's Keegan.
- 23:10SPEAKER_01: I hope it is.
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: Um I really like him as an actor, but um I like him as an actor, I do not like him in this.
- 23:15SPEAKER_01: I do not like him in this.
- 23:16SPEAKER_04: I'm like I cannot stand him in this.
- 23:18SPEAKER_04: I found him annoying from the beginning.
- 23:20SPEAKER_01: This film is a waste of good actors, I'll tell you that.
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: It's a waste of the rights of Tom Hardy, uh, Calian Murphy, his you know, Nolan favourites.
- 23:27SPEAKER_01: Tom Hardy, what is he doing in this movie?
- 23:29SPEAKER_01: Like, he is I I do not remember anything he did other than marking his fuel tank with chalk, which I thought was like, oh man, that's kind of smart.
- 23:36SPEAKER_01: Ask your friend how much they're doing, because you guys started out the same fuel.
- 23:39SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh, science class.
- 23:40SPEAKER_01: Um not remember that even.
- 23:43SPEAKER_01: That's all I remember from him.
- 23:45SPEAKER_01: And the bit at the end, I don't know if I got uh remember this correctly, but I remember him coming out of the plane and there was like fire everywhere, and that's the only time you see his face.
- 23:53SPEAKER_01: That's what I mean.
- 23:54SPEAKER_04: He takes off the mask at the end, and that's literally and then he like gets captured.
- 23:59SPEAKER_01: Get arrested or something.
- 24:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's it.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: That's all I remember.
- 24:02SPEAKER_01: And everything else is a blur.
- 24:03SPEAKER_04: Like he does anything else.
- 24:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like that these boys they keep coming on getting on boats and then and then sinking.
- 24:12SPEAKER_02: Um they keep they doing that over and over, these poor, poor white boys.
- 24:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 24:18SPEAKER_04: Well here's the here's one thing.
- 24:20SPEAKER_04: Can you tell me uh can you tell me the lead character's name?
- 24:24SPEAKER_01: No.
- 24:26SPEAKER_01: Can you tell me anyone's name?
- 24:27SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, Harry Styles, he was called Alex.
- 24:31SPEAKER_01: And I know only I only know that because it's Harry Styles.
- 24:34SPEAKER_01: And as a teen, as you know, somebody who grew up listening to One Direction, this was kind of like the first big thing they any of them did since going solo.
- 24:44SPEAKER_01: Do you know what I mean?
- 24:45SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 24:46SPEAKER_01: So obviously the the the gang, the worldwide um conglomerate shadow cabinet of One Direction fans, you know, pushed Duncan as hard as they could.
- 24:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:57SPEAKER_01: Um and I I genuinely only remember scenes that he was in because of this, because I don't think I like after I saw the film, I went on YouTube to find just the clips of him in it.
- 25:07SPEAKER_01: And this was like I was like I was like 17 or something shit.
- 25:10SPEAKER_01: Or like 19, maybe, even worse.
- 25:12SPEAKER_01: Um but in in in all of those in all of those scenes, you can literally like it could be anything can happen.
- 25:19SPEAKER_01: You you can't tell what happened before, you can't tell what happened after.
- 25:22SPEAKER_01: Oh right?
- 25:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's this this movie is confusing.
- 25:28SPEAKER_01: It's confusing and not in the Nolan way, do you know what I mean?
- 25:30SPEAKER_01: It's not in the wibbly wobbly timey whimey.
- 25:33SPEAKER_04: It's confusing, but like not in an intentional way for for like that he's trying to be in confusing like the not the way that he's trying for it to be confusing, it's confusing uh because uh it's just a mess.
- 25:45SPEAKER_04: It's just a mess.
- 25:47SPEAKER_04: I wanted to say, like, Christopher Nolan, yeah, he's I i they asked him why he cast Harry Styles, and he said I auditioned literally thousands of young men with different combinations of young men, and he had it.
- 25:59SPEAKER_04: And I that's bullshit.
- 26:01SPEAKER_04: You knew you know why you cast him.
- 26:03SPEAKER_01: You saw him in the What Makes You Beautiful video like the rest of us.
- 26:06SPEAKER_01: Like own up to it.
- 26:08SPEAKER_01: Martin Scorsese met met Harry Styles and was like, Oh yeah, I like this kid.
- 26:12SPEAKER_01: So I mean, like it's I mean he's he's a charismatic.
- 26:20SPEAKER_01: He's just some guy, Ganus.
- 26:22SPEAKER_01: He's just some guy.
- 26:23SPEAKER_01: He's just some guy.
- 26:25SPEAKER_01: I mean, no, he's he's yeah.
- 26:27SPEAKER_01: He's nice to look at it but he's not a good actor.
- 26:29SPEAKER_01: He's not a good actor.
- 26:30SPEAKER_01: He's not a good actor.
- 26:31SPEAKER_01: Um at least not here, I I guess.
- 26:33SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 26:34SPEAKER_01: He's he's done better in music videos, arguably, and on iCarly.
- 26:38SPEAKER_01: Um okay, those were his only acting credits, right?
- 26:41SPEAKER_01: Before this film were iCarly and the One Direction mu uh film that they did, the concert film, which was like a documentary, but I'm pretty sure they were acting in it anyway.
- 26:53SPEAKER_04: Um probably.
- 26:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but that that's that's the thing.
- 26:56SPEAKER_01: Like, how fair is it?
- 26:57SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, I auditioned thousands and thousands of boys, and I happen to get one of the most famous boys in the world from one of the biggest boy bands.
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: As he's coming out of as he's coming out of of the the you know, the whole boy band.
- 27:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:12SPEAKER_01: Literally this is like the year after um when direction broke up.
- 27:15SPEAKER_01: Um so yeah.
- 27:17SPEAKER_04: Um also like it's uh oh what was gonna say.
- 27:22SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah, he's gone on to um star in another movie now that you which is something you brought up to me when we were talking about what what we're gonna do.
- 27:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, my my our favourite Jason Sadek is saboteur, Harry Styles.
- 27:36SPEAKER_01: Um he's doing Olivia Wilde's follow-up to Book Smart, um Don't Worry Darling, which is meant to be like a thriller, and he's up starring opposite Florence Pugh, and he's dating Olivia Wilde now, which is like Olivia Wilde.
- 27:51SPEAKER_01: Why can't you just date Christopher Nolan and be done with it, Harry?
- 27:54SPEAKER_01: Why must we do this to Jason Sadekis?
- 27:56SPEAKER_01: We can't keep doing this to Jason Sudakis.
- 27:58SPEAKER_01: He's already getting divorced on TV.
- 28:01SPEAKER_01: Um I love Ted Lasso, by the way, it's so sad.
- 28:04SPEAKER_02: Um like Jason Sudakis could do Dunkirk with his eyes closed, but Harry Styles could never do Ted Lasso.
- 28:11SPEAKER_02: Like, I'm gonna say that right now.
- 28:14SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna get so much heat for that, but who gives a shit?
- 28:18SPEAKER_01: Um I used to be very like I used to be styles.
- 28:22SPEAKER_01: I used to be so pro Harry Styles.
- 28:24SPEAKER_01: Um and I like there's a special place in my heart for him, obviously, because I like grew up you know watching him become this Jason Sudeikis saboteur.
- 28:32SPEAKER_04: Um what happened then?
- 28:34SPEAKER_01: But it's just I think like I think he's just embarrassed me too many times.
- 28:39SPEAKER_01: That's the thing.
- 28:40SPEAKER_01: Don't don't like tweet about celebrities ever because all of them will ultimately disappoint you, even if you like their music, they will they will all let you down.
- 28:48SPEAKER_01: Like I'm sure um yeah, Sudeikis will never let me down.
- 28:52SPEAKER_01: He might.
- 28:52SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 28:53SPEAKER_04: Please don't, Jason.
- 28:54SPEAKER_01: Please don't, Jason.
- 28:55SPEAKER_01: We love you.
- 28:56SPEAKER_04: Um if you're if you're ever hearing us.
- 28:58SPEAKER_04: I mean, I I already produced another podcast about you, Jason.
- 29:00SPEAKER_04: Please don't do that.
- 29:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, please don't do this, Jason, Jason.
- 29:03SPEAKER_02: People people are relying on you.
- 29:05SPEAKER_02: Um, but no.
- 29:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, it's that thing of like I I think the reason why Nolan cast him in Dunkirk is also the reason why everybody loves him so much in the sense that there is so much hype and clout and star power around Harry Styles, just even as a brand, not even as like an actor.
- 29:24SPEAKER_01: Do you know what I mean?
- 29:25SPEAKER_01: It'll bring in the right press, it'll bring in the right publicity.
- 29:28SPEAKER_01: Um I'm sure Nolan would have never captured the you know 14 to 25 demographic without him.
- 29:35SPEAKER_04: Um You mean the 14-year-olds aren't like desperate to see a movie about Don Kirk?
- 29:42SPEAKER_02: No, they're not, they're really not.
- 29:44SPEAKER_02: They weren't even desperate to see Interstellar, a film where Timothy Chalamet appears in for maybe a good five minutes.
- 29:51SPEAKER_04: But that's also like pre-pre call me by your name, yeah.
- 29:54SPEAKER_01: Pre pre-blow up, but you know the kids are revisiting it.
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, that's true.
- 29:59SPEAKER_01: Which makes me feel ancient.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: But um fuck, sorry.
- 30:05SPEAKER_01: Um no, but but it's just that thing of like, oh, dude, you gotta stop getting papped without a mask on.
- 30:13SPEAKER_01: It's embarrassing me.
- 30:14SPEAKER_01: You gotta stop wrecking marriages, it's embarrassing me.
- 30:17SPEAKER_01: You gotta stop.
- 30:19SPEAKER_01: Oh no, it's just it's just like many times Harry Styles has been spotted hanging out with his friends without a mask on and like.
- 30:24SPEAKER_01: Oh without a mask.
- 30:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, without mask.
- 30:26SPEAKER_04: With with that mask on.
- 30:29SPEAKER_01: With a specific mask on that I hate.
- 30:31SPEAKER_01: Um, that was really embarrassing.
- 30:36SPEAKER_01: That was really embarrassing.
- 30:37SPEAKER_01: It's like um his his own ass.
- 30:39SPEAKER_01: I don't know, but that's not even that embarrassing.
- 30:41SPEAKER_01: It's not even that embarrassing.
- 30:42SPEAKER_04: If he had his own ass on his mask, I'd be like quite impressed.
- 30:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, it's pretty cool actually.
- 30:46SPEAKER_01: Um he's not the band, he's not the One Direction member with an ass tattoo, though.
- 30:50SPEAKER_01: That's Louis Tomlinson.
- 30:51SPEAKER_01: So I have a Rollodex of One Direction facts the same way.
- 30:54SPEAKER_04: I do know he has another tattoo though, and I know it's the uh the late show one.
- 30:58SPEAKER_04: Late show.
- 30:59SPEAKER_04: Yeah, because that's on YouTube for people to see.
- 31:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:02SPEAKER_02: Um I have like a Rolodex of useless One Direction facts the same way middle-aged men have like useless World War II facts.
- 31:09SPEAKER_02: It's like the same um you can take your pup quizable win.
- 31:13SPEAKER_04: I hope I don't become that man that's like, oh Yeah, I really hope you don't.
- 31:18SPEAKER_02: Because then you're gonna have to re-listen to this and be like, you know what, actually, I take it back.
- 31:22SPEAKER_04: I really like Dunkirk.
- 31:26SPEAKER_04: Makes me proud to be British.
- 31:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:28SPEAKER_02: The the the 550th episode.
- 31:31SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, if the show goes on for that long, I hope it does.
- 31:35SPEAKER_01: You have me back and we'll both change our opinions.
- 31:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, ten years from now we'll change our opinions on Dunkirk, because we've entered a different crisis in our lives.
- 31:43SPEAKER_01: Um but um yeah, no, it's it's that thing of like you can't really expect anything from famous people, not their politics, not their activism, not their anything.
- 31:53SPEAKER_01: So like it's fun just to just to be silly about it online.
- 31:57SPEAKER_01: Ugh, fuck off, Mark Ruffler, you spineless coward jag.
- 32:02SPEAKER_01: Umy, many Harry Star's also one of them.
- 32:05SPEAKER_01: He fucking tweeted this stupid thing when in like 2013 he was like um R.I.P.
- 32:10SPEAKER_02: Baroness Thatcher, and then somebody and then a fan quote tweeted it being like Niall should petrol bomb you, Niall Horrin, who's the Irish one in the band.
- 32:19SPEAKER_02: And I was just like, this is the best like thing I've ever seen on the internet.
- 32:23SPEAKER_02: It's so funny, so good.
- 32:24SPEAKER_02: But yeah, but no, he tweeted that.
- 32:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's so funny.
- 32:28SPEAKER_04: I give him the benefit of the doubt because he was a kid, but like just like Yeah, it's a bit like you're a kid with such a massive following.
- 32:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah, be careful what you're saying.
- 32:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but that but then again, again, like you can't really expect anything of anybody because you know, it's people you not everyone is smart.
- 32:44SPEAKER_01: Um sorry, that was really mean.
- 32:46SPEAKER_01: Um But um yeah, because celebrities are just some fucking random people that happen to have like that happen to get you know make lots of money and have lots of followers, which is fucking.
- 32:58SPEAKER_04: It's so weird how like the more famous they get, the like l the more detached they become as well.
- 33:02SPEAKER_04: Like they're so unaware of like what everyone is actually saying.
- 33:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, become so out of touch.
- 33:06SPEAKER_01: But at the same time, who the fuck cares what anybody is saying?
- 33:08SPEAKER_01: Do you know what I mean?
- 33:09SPEAKER_01: Um just me being a college boy, d devil's advocate.
- 33:13SPEAKER_01: Um I'm a libertarian.
- 33:18SPEAKER_04: No.
- 33:20SPEAKER_02: I am if I say what I am, I'm gonna get arrested in my house.
- 33:24SPEAKER_02: Um I swear.
- 33:26SPEAKER_02: Uh anyway.
- 33:27SPEAKER_02: But yeah.
- 33:28SPEAKER_01: Back to this film is very like apolitical to me, even though it is about a very contentious time.
- 33:33SPEAKER_01: Um World War II and they're out here just like I'm gonna eat my jam sandwich and sink into the ocean.
- 33:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's like uh okay.
- 33:47SPEAKER_04: So I know we kinda like we're like 35 minutes into an episode, we haven't even said what this is about.
- 33:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay.
- 33:57SPEAKER_02: You're gonna splice it in the beginning.
- 33:59SPEAKER_04: Um it's like the final so it's it's three different periods technically.
- 34:10SPEAKER_04: It's the final it's one week before the end of the war.
- 34:14SPEAKER_04: Uh uh, one no, it's not before the end of the war, it's 1940.
- 34:19SPEAKER_00: Uh 1940, no, it's about the end of this specific, I think, incident.
- 34:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah, a specific incident, yeah.
- 34:25SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 34:26SPEAKER_04: Um so yeah, it's one week before the end of the before this specific incident in Dunkirk.
- 34:32SPEAKER_04: Um one day before it and one hour before it.
- 34:38SPEAKER_04: And then they're all spliced together, told concurrently.
- 34:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 34:44SPEAKER_04: And they all kind of like mix together to the point where it ends up being like one story.
- 34:50SPEAKER_01: They're all connected um in some way.
- 34:54SPEAKER_01: Which is why it got really confusing.
- 34:55SPEAKER_01: Anyway, continue.
- 34:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but they do but so they announce it, it's like the mole is one week before, which is um a dive bomber attack.
- 35:06SPEAKER_04: Um then there's this which is the um the land one.
- 35:11SPEAKER_04: Then this it's even worse.
- 35:13SPEAKER_04: I've got I've literally got written down the sea and the air.
- 35:15SPEAKER_04: So I'm not gonna call it.
- 35:17SPEAKER_01: Even though that you didn't clock it in the beginning.
- 35:21SPEAKER_04: I love that.
- 35:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 35:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's land, air, and sea.
- 35:25SPEAKER_04: Um Well the first it says number one the mole, number two the sea, number three the air.
- 35:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 35:31SPEAKER_02: He couldn't say the land.
- 35:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 35:34SPEAKER_04: That's what they announced as the titles.
- 35:36SPEAKER_04: Um But yeah, it's uh like it's those three going on at the same time.
- 35:40SPEAKER_04: The mole is the kind of the main story because it's the it's the one weak one.
- 35:45SPEAKER_04: Um so it's like you you get to learn about I guess you I would say you learn the most about the people from the sea.
- 35:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, for sure.
- 35:54SPEAKER_01: I think they're the most compelling to watch, just because it is like it's Mark Rylance.
- 36:00SPEAKER_01: Um it's a fact, it's about like a man and his family, essentially, and then it's it's the one I think with the most stakes, because you have a man and his family who rescue an officer, but this officer is like not what he seems.
- 36:12SPEAKER_01: Um he's also the the incredibly gorgeous um Killian Murphy.
- 36:17SPEAKER_01: Um I gotta just mention that he's hot once um Piki Blender's gang and where we at online as well.
- 36:23SPEAKER_01: He has maybe one line, that's true, and he's like the thing that stands out to me the most about this is like the scene in the film that I remember the most is when Barry Keegan asks Mark Rylance like asks um Mark Rylance, is he a coward?
- 36:36SPEAKER_01: And I don't know why that stuck with me.
- 36:38SPEAKER_01: And I think that's the only thing about the film that'll ever stick with me.
- 36:42SPEAKER_01: Um and it might say something about Nolan as well, like maybe could he have been braver himself telling a story of this scale.
- 36:49SPEAKER_01: Look at me getting all big brained.
- 36:51SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah, I know that's that's something that really uh yeah stuck with me.
- 36:56SPEAKER_04: That stuck with me as well, but it's kind of like it stuck with me because it's like, oh, they see anyone who doesn't want to fight as a coward in a war as a coward.
- 37:05SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 37:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah and I wonder if Nolan sees that himself as well.
- 37:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 37:10SPEAKER_01: I wonder if that's like what I I wonder if he's like anyone who doesn't want to anyone who's like doesn't want to kill kill, doesn't want to fight, doesn't wanna um doesn't want to turn back to save their comrades as a you know but maybe again that's me reading into it being like they think he's a coward because he doesn't want to go back.
- 37:31SPEAKER_01: But at the same time, he's allowed within his rights not to go back because he had a fucking traumatic time.
- 37:37SPEAKER_01: But then the more you learn about Killian Murphy's character, the more the sort of unsavory everything becomes, sort of how everybody everybody's own sort of um agendas or their lack of um affect you know thousands of lives of the the you know boys on that beach.
- 37:55SPEAKER_01: So it it's yeah, it's a very just and it's kind of told so confusingly because I remember do you remember that bit where like the boat the big boat sinks after they've got on and eaten all their jam sandwiches?
- 38:06SPEAKER_01: Um and then very focused on this jam sandwich.
- 38:09SPEAKER_01: Very focused on the jam because it's so funny because they're just he's just like eating.
- 38:12SPEAKER_01: So ridiculous.
- 38:13SPEAKER_01: It's just like where's your friend?
- 38:14SPEAKER_02: And Harry Styles is just chewing acting.
- 38:17SPEAKER_04: He's like eating that's the bit I remember most is like the worst acting from him because he just like walks in.
- 38:23SPEAKER_01: It just wants to be like, ah right.
- 38:26SPEAKER_01: I'm on the I'm on a boat.
- 38:27SPEAKER_01: I'm on a boat, see?
- 38:28SPEAKER_01: Um and he's like cup of tea.
- 38:32SPEAKER_01: Capace.
- 38:32SPEAKER_01: Um so like in the butt the boat sinks, and then the the sort of rescue rowboats suddenly show up and and you know Killian Murphy's on one of them.
- 38:41SPEAKER_01: And you're just like, wasn't this guy on a plane?
- 38:45SPEAKER_01: Where is what's going on in here?
- 38:47SPEAKER_01: And then you realise, oh, it's like being told in different times.
- 38:52SPEAKER_02: Um but yeah.
- 38:54SPEAKER_04: That's the bit that you realised that was going on.
- 38:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 38:57SPEAKER_02: I didn't realise, like, even though they have like titles and stuff, like you forget.
- 39:01SPEAKER_02: You forget.
- 39:03SPEAKER_04: You kind of forget.
- 39:04SPEAKER_04: There's a bit there is a bit where um they're they're jumping off the little boat, uh, and then uh Tom Holland.
- 39:10SPEAKER_04: Uh Tom Holland.
- 39:12SPEAKER_04: I mean he could be in this.
- 39:15SPEAKER_02: He could be, he looks like every other boy on the show.
- 39:17SPEAKER_02: He literally does look like all the lead characters in this movie.
- 39:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 39:20SPEAKER_04: Um Tom Hardy's flying over and he sees that, but then that's that doesn't happen for like a long time afterwards.
- 39:28SPEAKER_01: And so like And you're like, wait, when is what when are we?
- 39:33SPEAKER_04: Um, that's them?
- 39:35SPEAKER_04: I recognise that boat, but yeah.
- 39:38SPEAKER_01: I recognise that boat, but they haven't seen it.
- 39:40SPEAKER_04: That's the boat, that's the time that's the time where I was like, oh yeah, that's that's connected.
- 39:43SPEAKER_04: I forgot about that.
- 39:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:45SPEAKER_01: Oh for sure.
- 39:46SPEAKER_01: And there's that bit where um fuck, I'd forgotten already what I was about to say because that's this whole movie.
- 39:52SPEAKER_01: No, that's okay, that's okay.
- 39:53SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm like, I was thinking about it and then it like slipped my mind.
- 39:56SPEAKER_01: But it's that thing of like you know how um when oh I was I was I was I remember when I was re-watching it though, the thing that jumped out at me the second time was that there are a lot of aspect ratio changes that happen very suddenly.
- 40:08SPEAKER_01: And I think it's that I definitely it like it freaked me out because suddenly everything was super wide, and then it got to Barry Keegan on the boat and it was just like like the bars were here.
- 40:21SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, what is this for?
- 40:23SPEAKER_01: Is it to it's a are you showing me the different timelines?
- 40:26SPEAKER_01: And then now I'm just thinking about it, oh maybe that's that's why.
- 40:29SPEAKER_01: And then I was like, ugh, so stupid.
- 40:32SPEAKER_01: It's so like oh, it's so very, it's so very forgettable, which it is, um, but then when I think about it, it's so very like unnecessary.
- 40:44SPEAKER_01: Like many of the choices he made in this film to tell this story were unnecessary, but it's a very Nolan choice.
- 40:53SPEAKER_01: Do you get what I mean?
- 40:54SPEAKER_01: This is why Jonathan Nolan is my favourite Nolan brother, because he never lets me down.
- 40:58SPEAKER_04: Um, he never lets you down?
- 41:00SPEAKER_01: Never, not yet, anyway.
- 41:03SPEAKER_04: Um wait, what was that film that he made?
- 41:05SPEAKER_01: Um right don't remember the name of it.
- 41:12SPEAKER_01: Neither do I, but it was horrible.
- 41:13SPEAKER_01: But I love Westworld.
- 41:15SPEAKER_01: Um I love Westworld so much.
- 41:17SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah, no, yeah, no, this it was a very like bizarre choice to me.
- 41:23SPEAKER_04: And I get that he's like, oh, I'm not into linear storytelling, but you kind of want things to to what is it about yeah, what is it about all these guys all these film bro guys that like Nolan and Tarantino and all, they don't like they they have to shoot on film and they don't like linear.
- 41:43SPEAKER_04: What is going on with that?
- 41:44SPEAKER_01: It's because they're they're they're the cool quirky girls.
- 41:46SPEAKER_01: They're the they're the Zoe Dechanelles of their field.
- 41:49SPEAKER_01: Um they're very cool and very quirky.
- 41:52SPEAKER_01: I that's the thing, like when Tarantino does it, I can tolerate it.
- 41:55SPEAKER_01: And I kind of like it when he does it.
- 41:57SPEAKER_04: It works when he does it.
- 41:58SPEAKER_01: It works when he does it.
- 41:59SPEAKER_01: And Nolan can get away with it sometimes.
- 42:02SPEAKER_01: Do you know what I mean?
- 42:03SPEAKER_01: Like Memento, obviously.
- 42:05SPEAKER_01: That memento is great and it works for that.
- 42:08SPEAKER_01: It works for that story.
- 42:10SPEAKER_01: Works for that script, exactly.
- 42:12SPEAKER_01: Unnecessary.
- 42:12SPEAKER_01: Dunkirk doesn't need this.
- 42:14SPEAKER_01: Like, like a war, like the wars are so boring.
- 42:18SPEAKER_01: No, like wars are incredibly traumatic and horrible and you know, an extension.
- 42:22SPEAKER_02: And yet this meant to make it really boring.
- 42:24SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 42:25SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 42:26SPEAKER_01: Like something that's meant to make it exciting makes it the most boring thing about it.
- 42:31SPEAKER_01: Like it's just ridiculous.
- 42:32SPEAKER_04: But um like Jawhead in that sense where like they try and show how boring war is how but at least you stay with one protagonist in Jawhead, you know what I mean?
- 42:42SPEAKER_01: Like at least you follow somebody.
- 42:44SPEAKER_01: And this is like you follow this kid.
- 42:46SPEAKER_01: This kid doesn't say a word for most of the film.
- 42:49SPEAKER_01: Um and then you follow this other kid.
- 42:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 42:54SPEAKER_01: Other than like he's again, it goes back to the whole thing of like, are they cowards for wanting to leave the beach?
- 43:00SPEAKER_01: Are they cowards for doing this?
- 43:02SPEAKER_01: Are they cowards for um, you know, uh the the the what's the French soldier, the guy that's not the the British soldier?
- 43:10SPEAKER_01: Like, is he a coward for dressing up as a British soldier trying to save his own life?
- 43:15SPEAKER_01: It's that i it I think if Nolan wants to if you can infer any meaning into this very boring film, um, is whether or not anyone's actions can be justified if it's to save their own life.
- 43:26SPEAKER_01: Do you know what I mean?
- 43:27SPEAKER_01: Like, especially after something as trauma ex war.
- 43:30SPEAKER_01: Um because they were just being bombed on that beach, which is fucking horrible, but also like the many things are are happening, but like why are you showing me this backwards?
- 43:40SPEAKER_01: Like, why are you doing this?
- 43:41SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't get it.
- 43:42SPEAKER_01: Um anyway.
- 43:45SPEAKER_04: And also, like, why is why is the old man the biggest hero in this movie?
- 43:51SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh, yeah.
- 43:52SPEAKER_01: Why is the old What does that say about it?
- 43:58SPEAKER_04: Um He's like the
- 44:00SPEAKER_02: Nicest wears it.
- 44:02SPEAKER_02: The most likable character.
- 44:04SPEAKER_04: Oh, it just feels like so.
- 44:07SPEAKER_04: It feels like what every every like middle-aged man imagines themselves to be.
- 44:12SPEAKER_04: Like what what they want to what they no, he doesn't have to middle-aged man wants to do, and then like the rest of them are like what everyone imagines themselves to be.
- 44:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, very wish fulfillment is also a thing of and I think that's what's become of Nolan recently.
- 44:27SPEAKER_01: I think he's gotten to a point in his career where yeah, sure, he's gonna do whatever the hell he wants.
- 44:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 44:32SPEAKER_01: But that doesn't mean it's gonna be good.
- 44:34SPEAKER_04: How much he made for this as well?
- 44:36SPEAKER_01: How much?
- 44:37SPEAKER_04: So he made twenty million plus backend.
- 44:41SPEAKER_04: Um and it's like the most a director's ever made, or something like that.
- 44:45SPEAKER_02: Um I can't remember what what did I read?
- 44:51SPEAKER_04: Twenty million plus like a a huge percentage.
- 44:54SPEAKER_04: Oh, twenty million against twenty percent of the box office gross.
- 44:58SPEAKER_04: The biggest deal for any director alongside Peter Jackson for King Kong.
- 45:03SPEAKER_01: Fuck.
- 45:04SPEAKER_01: That's a lot of money.
- 45:06SPEAKER_04: That's huge.
- 45:07SPEAKER_04: And it made a lot at the box.
- 45:11SPEAKER_04: Let me see how much it made.
- 45:14SPEAKER_01: Shoot something on film and then call it a day.
- 45:16SPEAKER_01: Why can't we all be?
- 45:18SPEAKER_04: 527 million it made.
- 45:20SPEAKER_04: So Jesus Christ.
- 45:23SPEAKER_01: So not only did he get 20 million and then he got 20% of that 500 million.
- 45:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 45:28SPEAKER_01: Jeez.
- 45:29SPEAKER_01: Jeez.
- 45:32SPEAKER_04: And this movie cost a hundred million.
- 45:34SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 45:35SPEAKER_01: So they definitely broke you.
- 45:38SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah.
- 45:40SPEAKER_01: I think he might have made the budget back himself.
- 45:42SPEAKER_01: Um but jeez, that's oh man.
- 45:46SPEAKER_01: I mean, I can imagine you have to like it it's again, right, such an expensive film only to look very, very plain.
- 45:56SPEAKER_01: Very good.
- 45:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah, there's nothing exciting visually.
- 46:02SPEAKER_01: Exciting visually, even though you have every opportunity to be, in terms of like let's again, when the ship is sinking, I think that could have been done in a more interesting way.
- 46:14SPEAKER_01: Like you didn't know what was going on, which I feel like okay, sure, you could argue that.
- 46:18SPEAKER_01: Um it's so you could you you know you're in there with the soldiers, they don't know what's going on.
- 46:22SPEAKER_01: Um but you could argue that with with any old sequence in the film as well, just like with um Tom Hardy's bit, the planes have so much just to be exciting, and when they were shooting at each other, I was kind of like I don't see I don't see nothing.
- 46:35SPEAKER_04: I can't just yeah, the the whole plane stuff is boring to me.
- 46:38SPEAKER_04: That's the worst part of the movie to me.
- 46:40SPEAKER_01: Even though it could be the most exciting, do you know what I mean?
- 46:43SPEAKER_01: Like all the big stuff, like the other the the actual heroic stuff, quote unquote.
- 46:47SPEAKER_04: He's obviously like doing some kind of callback to like those the films of that time.
- 46:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 46:53SPEAKER_04: Um but it's not done well.
- 46:57SPEAKER_04: It's not um I do not I don't care about that character.
- 47:02SPEAKER_04: We know nothing about him.
- 47:04SPEAKER_00: He's faceless for most of it.
- 47:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he's faceless.
- 47:07SPEAKER_04: Why does Tom Hardy have to be faceless in every known movie?
- 47:11SPEAKER_01: I can't handle how gorgeous he is.
- 47:15SPEAKER_01: Honestly.
- 47:16SPEAKER_01: Honestly, I can't I can't handle sexy people being oppressed for much longer.
- 47:20SPEAKER_01: Um it's a crime.
- 47:22SPEAKER_04: Bring on Venom 2.
- 47:23SPEAKER_01: Bring on hell yeah, that's oh man.
- 47:25SPEAKER_01: I'm so excited.
- 47:26SPEAKER_01: It's coming out, I think, the week of my birthday over here.
- 47:29SPEAKER_01: So I'm just gonna have a ball.
- 47:30SPEAKER_04: There's your there's your birthday movie.
- 47:32SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, I'm gonna have a blast.
- 47:36SPEAKER_01: Camp.
- 47:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 47:37SPEAKER_04: Are your cinemas open again?
- 47:39SPEAKER_01: Um, sort of.
- 47:40SPEAKER_01: I literally just checked today and apparently there have been screenings for the last couple of days, and a Quiet Place 2 just came out here.
- 47:47SPEAKER_01: Um they're showing it here.
- 47:49SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna go see Mortal Kombat soon, hopefully.
- 47:52SPEAKER_01: Because that's huge.
- 47:53SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah.
- 47:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, how about you guys just opened up, didn't you?
- 47:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but I'm also waiting for in the heights.
- 48:01SPEAKER_01: I was like, Oh, it's gonna be sick.
- 48:03SPEAKER_01: I'm so excited.
- 48:05SPEAKER_04: My favourite musical of all time.
- 48:06SPEAKER_04: So I'm so excited.
- 48:07SPEAKER_04: Sick.
- 48:08SPEAKER_04: I saw it three times when it was here.
- 48:10SPEAKER_01: Whoa.
- 48:11SPEAKER_04: In a year.
- 48:12SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 48:13SPEAKER_01: You should get yeah.
- 48:14SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's not like Hamilton tickets, I'm assuming.
- 48:16SPEAKER_04: Oh no, no, this was at the King's Cross theatre, so it was like£20 a ticket.
- 48:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 48:20SPEAKER_01: Sick, sick.
- 48:21SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, no, the trailer looks great.
- 48:23SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm excited for for lots of musicals to come out, but also just like I can't believe Ansel Elgort still has something coming out.
- 48:31SPEAKER_04: I can't believe that's coming.
- 48:32SPEAKER_04: I yeah, I don't only because it's so expensive, and they're like, what do we do with this now we can make the whole movie?
- 48:37SPEAKER_02: What do we do?
- 48:37SPEAKER_02: Do we replace him with Christopher Plummer?
- 48:39SPEAKER_04: Like, it's like we can't record an an entire movie again.
- 48:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 48:44SPEAKER_01: I mean, if you can yeah, if you can see that.
- 48:46SPEAKER_01: And then there's Dear Emma Hansen, which just looks like trash.
- 48:49SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 48:50SPEAKER_01: Um I I did not know what that film was about, by the way.
- 48:53SPEAKER_01: That m the musical was about, by the way.
- 48:55SPEAKER_01: And um I just knew that Ben Platt was in.
- 48:58SPEAKER_01: You've seen it.
- 48:58SPEAKER_01: Apparently, like people really like it.
- 49:00SPEAKER_01: Apparently it's really good.
- 49:01SPEAKER_04: It's really good.
- 49:02SPEAKER_04: It's good, but like, well, the music's really good in it.
- 49:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:05SPEAKER_04: I d I don't know about this.
- 49:07SPEAKER_04: I don't think the story's great.
- 49:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't think that Evan is a redeemable boy.
- 49:11SPEAKER_04: No, I don't think he is at all.
- 49:13SPEAKER_01: No, God.
- 49:14SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 49:15SPEAKER_01: I saw the trailer and I was like, this sounds like a nightmare.
- 49:18SPEAKER_01: But then very like post post like um, you know, John Green's books are very like.
- 49:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it made well.
- 49:25SPEAKER_04: It makes sense given who's directing it as well.
- 49:26SPEAKER_04: It's still chap how do you say it's Ned Chapinsky?
- 49:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the guy that did perks.
- 49:31SPEAKER_01: But I liked perks.
- 49:33SPEAKER_04: Um I never liked I well I liked the book.
- 49:36SPEAKER_01: I didn't like the I only saw it for Logan Lerman.
- 49:38SPEAKER_01: I love the book, but um yeah.
- 49:40SPEAKER_01: I only watched it for again, I only watch things if people that I think are attractive in them.
- 49:44SPEAKER_01: Why else would that's like the best bit of film marketing anybody can do.
- 49:48SPEAKER_01: Um fuck talent.
- 49:50SPEAKER_01: Um I'm kidding.
- 49:52SPEAKER_01: I'm kidding.
- 49:53SPEAKER_01: But hot people are always born.
- 49:54SPEAKER_04: You're still showing your age.
- 49:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:56SPEAKER_01: Of course.
- 49:57SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 49:57SPEAKER_01: I oh my gosh, yeah.
- 49:59SPEAKER_01: Like, come on.
- 50:01SPEAKER_01: Uh cancel me now.
- 50:02SPEAKER_01: I'm 22, please.
- 50:03SPEAKER_01: End me.
- 50:04SPEAKER_01: Jeez, you're already 22.
- 50:05SPEAKER_04: I thought you were even older than that.
- 50:06SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 50:07SPEAKER_02: I'm turning 23 this year.
- 50:09SPEAKER_04: Um yeah.
- 50:11SPEAKER_04: I thought you were 23 already.
- 50:12SPEAKER_01: But when I say like Um, thank you for that.
- 50:19SPEAKER_01: Makes me more mature even though I'm not.
- 50:22SPEAKER_01: Um I'm yeah, I'm still ragging on movies.
- 50:26SPEAKER_04: Only because it feels like you were in England for a long time as well.
- 50:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it does feel like I wasn't yeah, yeah.
- 50:32SPEAKER_02: I wasn't yeah.
- 50:35SPEAKER_02: I think you're like the third person to say that to me this week.
- 50:38SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 50:38SPEAKER_02: Like, wait, what?
- 50:40SPEAKER_02: You're turning 23?
- 50:41SPEAKER_02: I thought you were 23, and I was like, I forget my birthday every year, so who knows?
- 50:46SPEAKER_02: Um, but yeah.
- 50:48SPEAKER_04: Anyway, yeah, so like this uh where were we even with this?
- 50:55SPEAKER_04: It's we're having too much fun.
- 51:00SPEAKER_04: We are we gonna like so many tangents, it's fine.
- 51:03SPEAKER_04: Off the rails.
- 51:04SPEAKER_04: Doesn't matter.
- 51:05SPEAKER_04: Like it's really doesn't matter because we're just here to have fun on the on the year anniversary.
- 51:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, happy, happy one year anniversary for this podcast.
- 51:14SPEAKER_04: Well done.
- 51:15SPEAKER_04: It's we probably liter the weird thing is we probably like literally recorded this uh the last one a year to almost the day.
- 51:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 51:22SPEAKER_01: Probably, yeah.
- 51:22SPEAKER_01: No, I'm pretty sure.
- 51:23SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 51:24SPEAKER_04: So weird.
- 51:24SPEAKER_01: That's so weird.
- 51:26SPEAKER_04: Um I don't think I've spoken to you in like spoken to you on video since then.
- 51:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, oh my gosh.
- 51:33SPEAKER_01: Wild.
- 51:35SPEAKER_01: But like yeah, I like I'd I'll see you online all the time.
- 51:37SPEAKER_04: Yeah, even though I feel like I speak to you all the time, it doesn't feel like it's so weird.
- 51:42SPEAKER_01: Wild.
- 51:43SPEAKER_01: But yeah, um damn.
- 51:46SPEAKER_01: Have we really been indoors for that long?
- 51:49SPEAKER_01: I mean yeah, I hate living in unprecedented times.
- 51:54SPEAKER_01: Um bring back precedent.
- 51:56SPEAKER_01: Where is that bitch?
- 51:58SPEAKER_04: Um have you been working from home this entire time?
- 52:02SPEAKER_04: Or you've been going in?
- 52:04SPEAKER_01: Oh hell yeah.
- 52:04SPEAKER_01: Um I've been working from home the whole time.
- 52:08SPEAKER_01: The entire time.
- 52:09SPEAKER_01: I think my last gig, my last like on set job, that was right when COVID hit.
- 52:14SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 52:15SPEAKER_01: And then I think we've we finished the shoot, didn't shoot on location ever again, and just continued like working remotely, and it was really hard because it was the first time, you know, the first time anybody's had to work remotely.
- 52:26SPEAKER_01: Um but now it's just yeah, I'm chilling.
- 52:29SPEAKER_01: I'm in my house, I'm working when my parents are watching The Walking Dead, like it's the best.
- 52:34SPEAKER_01: Um But I do miss like I miss being on set.
- 52:38SPEAKER_01: So um yeah, someday soon, hopefully.
- 52:41SPEAKER_01: But yeah, I miss being on set.
- 52:44SPEAKER_01: Oh hell yeah, mate.
- 52:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, come on.
- 52:46SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, yeah, either this year or next year, depending on just like flights and money and stuff.
- 52:51SPEAKER_01: But I'll be doing my masters soon.
- 52:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 52:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so come back to London to do my masters.
- 52:58SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 52:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 53:00SPEAKER_01: Um so fingers crossed, it'll all work out.
- 53:02SPEAKER_01: We can actually finally meet in person.
- 53:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, my god, yeah, we finally meet in person.
- 53:06SPEAKER_01: If I'll have a drink and make you like, I know, like a lot, yeah.
- 53:10SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, we can go grab a drink and go to a gig.
- 53:13SPEAKER_01: Um we can finally go to each other's gigs.
- 53:16SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 53:17SPEAKER_01: Um we had plans before.
- 53:20SPEAKER_01: We had plans before.
- 53:21SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah, I miss gigging.
- 53:24SPEAKER_01: That's the like thing I miss most.
- 53:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 53:27SPEAKER_01: Um it's so weird.
- 53:29SPEAKER_01: Zoom Yeah, isn't that the weirdest thing?
- 53:32SPEAKER_01: I did a gig online, I think.
- 53:34SPEAKER_01: I hadn't done stand-up in a whole year.
- 53:36SPEAKER_01: And then I did Yeah, yeah, and then I did a gig online, and I was like, this is so bizarre, but thank you for like I I just scrolled through the video things being like, okay, I can see you laughing, so that's okay.
- 53:45SPEAKER_01: I can't hear you laughing because you've muted your audio.
- 53:49SPEAKER_01: But um, thank you for looking like you're laughing.
- 53:52SPEAKER_01: Um it's so bizarre.
- 53:54SPEAKER_01: Is it bizarre with improv?
- 53:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah, especially because we can't we can only hear each other laughing.
- 53:59SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay, yeah.
- 54:00SPEAKER_04: Because we're doing everything on Twitch.
- 54:02SPEAKER_04: So like we started off doing it on Instagram, and I was just like, that was not a way to do it.
- 54:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Instagram Live is a nightmare.
- 54:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that was horrible.
- 54:12SPEAKER_04: Um and then we moved on.
- 54:14SPEAKER_04: Then I was like, let's move it to Twitch.
- 54:16SPEAKER_04: Like, we'll get a different audience at least to everyone else who's doing it on Facebook.
- 54:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 54:20SPEAKER_04: Fair.
- 54:21SPEAKER_04: And uh yeah, it's been interesting, but I don't know.
- 54:25SPEAKER_04: I wanna go I want to go back in person.
- 54:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah, can't wait.
- 54:28SPEAKER_04: Can't wait.
- 54:29SPEAKER_04: Now everyone's starting getting their vaccines, so I'm like, finally we can sick.
- 54:33SPEAKER_01: I'm still waiting on that.
- 54:34SPEAKER_01: That's also a thing I'm waiting on, whether or not like you know, plans.
- 54:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because I'm young.
- 54:39SPEAKER_01: Because like they don't they don't give us that.
- 54:41SPEAKER_01: I don't need to survive this.
- 54:42SPEAKER_01: Like, it's whatever.
- 54:44SPEAKER_01: You yuck you lot can make more, you know what I mean?
- 54:46SPEAKER_04: Like I've had my I've had both now at this point.
- 54:49SPEAKER_01: Sick.
- 54:50SPEAKER_01: Good for you.
- 54:51SPEAKER_01: Good for you, you and your immunity.
- 54:53SPEAKER_01: Um being my old age.
- 54:56SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah, no, I have a I have mates that are like um relocating within the country and they haven't gotten their vaccines, and I'm like, oh what you did, like no, no, please no.
- 55:08SPEAKER_04: I don't want to wait, relocating in in Indonesia or in the UK?
- 55:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like in in Indonesia, like they're just moving about, and I'm like, we're not handling this well.
- 55:16SPEAKER_01: Like, you think England's bad, mate?
- 55:18SPEAKER_04: Um which one have you got there?
- 55:20SPEAKER_04: Or which ones have you got?
- 55:21SPEAKER_01: We've got um I think we've just discontinued the AstraZeneca one.
- 55:26SPEAKER_01: We've got Cinevac, which comes from China, and we've got I forgot the name of the other one, but I think we're getting one of the American ones, I just don't know which.
- 55:35SPEAKER_04: I'd have read today that we're getting Johnson and Johnson.
- 55:39SPEAKER_01: Uh the baby oil brand.
- 55:42SPEAKER_01: They're gonna inject baby oil into you like your Dwayne The Rock Johnson.
- 55:46SPEAKER_04: Um at least that's only a one-off though.
- 55:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 55:49SPEAKER_01: Fair.
- 55:50SPEAKER_01: But um, yeah, that's so funny.
- 55:52SPEAKER_01: I remember when like the the the Johnson and Johnson thing came out and everybody was just clowning it, and I was like, at least you guys have vaccines.
- 55:58SPEAKER_01: Just me and my third world country just being like, at least you guys have vaccines.
- 56:03SPEAKER_01: But we do now.
- 56:04SPEAKER_01: Um, so it's fine.
- 56:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 56:06SPEAKER_04: But yeah, come back to the UK and try and get one.
- 56:09SPEAKER_01: Try and get one, yeah, yeah.
- 56:11SPEAKER_01: Um and I'm like, I have like a lot of I'm chronically ill, so I was like, I kind of need this, but also like I'm not the the only person that needs it, obviously.
- 56:20SPEAKER_01: So I do not mind waiting because I like being I actually really like working from home.
- 56:25SPEAKER_01: I really like working from home.
- 56:28SPEAKER_01: I used to never be home, do you know what I mean?
- 56:30SPEAKER_01: Like I was always out all the time.
- 56:31SPEAKER_01: I was always working or gigging or doing something, but now I'm just kind of like actually I get to sit, I get to hang out with my cats.
- 56:37SPEAKER_01: Like it's awesome.
- 56:39SPEAKER_01: But yeah, it also drives me.
- 56:41SPEAKER_04: I'm like, I need to get out, I'm going insane.
- 56:43SPEAKER_04: I'm like where are you?
- 56:44SPEAKER_01: Like, are you in London?
- 56:46SPEAKER_04: I'm well I I've moved back with my parents for like the last eight months or something right now.
- 56:51SPEAKER_01: Gang.
- 56:52SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's driving me crazy.
- 56:54SPEAKER_01: Nuts in it, yeah.
- 56:55SPEAKER_01: It's mad.
- 56:57SPEAKER_01: It's really mad.
- 56:58SPEAKER_04: I was in I was in Central I was like in uh East London and now I'm like in Hertfordshire.
- 57:03SPEAKER_04: Oh man.
- 57:04SPEAKER_01: But you know, there's a lot of people.
- 57:06SPEAKER_01: I'm on like the border of North London now.
- 57:08SPEAKER_01: Oh okay.
- 57:09SPEAKER_01: But yeah.
- 57:10SPEAKER_01: But I hate it.
- 57:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's it's rough, man.
- 57:16SPEAKER_04: I need to get back out again.
- 57:18SPEAKER_01: You see, that's the thing, like what we don't pay in rent, we pay for with our sanity.
- 57:22SPEAKER_01: Umfortunate, which is why we're like completely off the rails right now.
- 57:29SPEAKER_01: Um away from Dunkirk.
- 57:31SPEAKER_04: I don't think we talked about Dunkirk in about 20 minutes.
- 57:35SPEAKER_02: Um don't know if you can keep that, but anyway.
- 57:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we'll keep it.
- 57:40SPEAKER_01: They're like, what the h nobody's getting vaccinated in Dunkirk.
- 57:44SPEAKER_04: Um Yeah, they're not.
- 57:46SPEAKER_04: Um the one thing that I I keep thinking about with Dunkirk actually, like to go back to it, is the the final the kind of final scene where they do they they get on the train and they're like pulling into the station and they like they think at everything.
- 58:02SPEAKER_04: They think um they're so embarrassed about having not done anything.
- 58:06SPEAKER_01: But then they're lauded as heroes when they come in.
- 58:08SPEAKER_04: Yeah, they're lauded as heroes, and that just feels like so It's very British, isn't it?
- 58:13SPEAKER_01: It's very English.
- 58:15SPEAKER_01: It's very on the money.
- 58:19SPEAKER_02: I think that's probably one of the other like character pieces that are interesting in the film.
- 58:24SPEAKER_02: Um where he's like yelling at the kid like, give me a newspaper, give me a beer, and then he gets everything.
- 58:30SPEAKER_01: Go on, give it, go on, then I'm like, Harry, you've never said that in your life.
- 58:35SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, no, and yeah, then the newspaper is like, Well, the war is over, they're the the the boys are all home safe, and they're like, Woo! Everybody's cheering them, but it's like they did shit, they ran.
- 58:53SPEAKER_01: And again, goes back to that whole I feel like it's a really flimsy thesis for a film just to be like who's a coward and who isn't when it comes to war, because war is so freaking complex, uh not just geopolitically, but like in terms of how it affects people, yeah.
- 59:10SPEAKER_01: Not just people fighting, people that are home, people that are being invaded, everyone, how it affects everyone, and then it's being bottled down to this.
- 59:18SPEAKER_01: I guess in a sense, there is perspective here where in like it's a super like English way to look at things, where it's like it's about us.
- 59:27SPEAKER_01: Um you know what this film you thought this film was about the you know, war, the horrors of war?
- 59:32SPEAKER_01: No, it's about British people.
- 59:34SPEAKER_04: Um well that brings me to one thing that I wanted to talk about, which was that um when I was watching it on Prime, um it was come out with a trivia, uh and one of the bits of trivia is this movie was criticized.
- 59:50SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna read it like word for word.
- 59:52SPEAKER_04: The movie was criticized for not showing Indian soldiers.
- 59:54SPEAKER_04: Four companies of the Royal Indian Army Service Corps uh unarmed mule handlers were present at Dunkirk during the evacuation.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_01: Ah, there it is.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_01: Erasing the brown people but exploiting them.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_04: And it was also criticized for uh um not showing the French.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_01: Except for that one guy that did not speak um and pretended to be English.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_02: Jeez.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, see, it's a very yeah, narrow British perspective wherein they need it's it's very like it feels it's self-preservation, all of it.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_01: The whole film, I think, is about self-preservation.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_01: You're literally trying to save your own skin.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_01: Um that's what those guys are doing, and then yeah, fuck, yeah, oh man.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_01: Cause yeah, because like what if if you were in the Commonwealth, you were conscripted to fight for Britain, right?
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_01: Like in the fuck.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_04: And it's just it erases everything about it.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_04: Like it's yeah, it just feels so typical of the British.
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_01: So typical of the British, so typical of the British white population.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_01: Um It's like what can you do other than eye roll it and not watch it?
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_04: Like, you can't force And then I'm just looking at the trivia now, and it says Christopher Nogland focused on the realism every aspect.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_04: I'm like, no, he didn't, obviously.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_02: No, he didn't.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_02: There were no brown people, there were no black people, there were no like where was everyone else that focused on.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_02: Where was literally everyone else?
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_02: Um I think there was one woman throughout the whole film, I think, and it was that lady.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_04: Two women, I got it wrong.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_04: It says it in the trivia.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_04: It says there there were two women in this entire movie.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_01: Two I feel like Nolan would rather tell, you know, a story about what happened on Dunkirk through the lens of a grain of sand, as opposed to any like women or people of colour.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_01: Um it's oh man.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_01: And that's so annoying.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_04: It's such an imperialist perspective, and it's very John David Washington the first person of colour?
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_02: Like his first black lead?
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah, well he I know it's his first black lead.
- 1:02:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but is it like Oh my god, it might be.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_01: I'm trying to think back to his films.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_04: I'm trying to think who else is in all of his movies.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_01: Who else?
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_01: What came after Memento?
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_04: Um what's it called?
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_04: Um Insomnia.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_01: Insomnia.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_01: And the prestige was full of white people.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_01: Inception has like the one brown guy.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_01: Um yeah.
- 1:02:41SPEAKER_01: What else?
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_01: What else what else did he do?
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_01: My god.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_01: Um The Dark Knight Interstellar, also full of whites.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_01: Uh Dark Knight movies.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_01: Interstellar had one black guy.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_02: Dark Knight movies had a litter of like people of colour were only there if they were in gang or if they were Morgan Freeman.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_04: Um Morgan Freeman seems to be the cons the consistent one.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_02: Consistent, the consistent black guy in all of his movies.
- 1:03:06SPEAKER_01: Um what else?
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, don't don't many directors do, especially directors of his caliber.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_01: It's like it's it's embarrassing, obviously.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_01: And it's that thing of like I think people get it's it's that whole identity policy politics thing that I'm really tired many people are really tired of talking about in the sense that like real change doesn't stop or start with Christopher Nolden putting John David Washington as in his film.
- 1:03:34SPEAKER_01: Do you know what I mean?
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_01: Like it's not gonna end racism in the industry, obviously.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_01: Um but I think I don't know, like what it has to come from somewhere other than begging a white director to to tell us it's the same thing with like the freaking Snyder cut where like um the whole Justice League thing where Ray Fisher really really got sidelined in the Joss Whedon cut and here he's in the the newer one he's the heart of the story.
- 1:04:05SPEAKER_01: But then again, that took like what fans campaigning, that took a whole investigation, that took yeah, i it's like why does it have to be like that?
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's so annoying to exist.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, fuck fuck the whole yeah oh my god, are you reading another fact?
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_01: Is that another thing?
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_04: I just noticed another thing.
- 1:04:25SPEAKER_04: It says in a podcast Tarantino called it his second favourite film of the decade.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_01: Gross.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_01: What's the surprise?
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_04: What a surprise.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_01: What a surprise.
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_04: What a shocker.
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_04: It's first it's probably something like ironic.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_04: Uh I don't know.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_02: In a podcast.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_02: Which podcast, yeah.
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_02: Uh which podcast?
- 1:04:47SPEAKER_02: His second favourite film.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_02: It's that annoying.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_04: But also Harry Harry Stiles had a personal bodyguard on set because of the unwanted attention.
- 1:04:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there were so many like set pictures, paparazzi, that's the biggest, most annoying thing about like uh Wonder Action, because they never get privacy one, but also like it's so disruptive and it happens on every single shoot.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_01: I have seen probably every frame in Don't Worry Dark, or at least everything Harry's gonna wear in that movie because of you know fans and paparazzi.
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_01: And maybe I don't need to watch the film, but I can tell you which day that scene was shot.
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_01: I can probably swear to you, I could probably do that.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_01: Um that's how insane it is.
- 1:05:25SPEAKER_01: Um but also like is is it that thing of like do do you feel this way with Don Kirk in many sort of you know typical quote unquote film bro movies where the the like collective um not hype, but like everybody the the fact that you heard that this person liked it means you have to like it.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_01: Do you ever feel that with films like this, or specifically this film?
- 1:05:49SPEAKER_04: Um I don't know why that's such a thing, this herd sort of that kind of like when I say that it kind of puts me off.
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, but then you feel like a bit of a do you ever feel like feel like a bit of a dick for for being put off by it.
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_01: Of course.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_01: Sometimes I do.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_01: Well what the fuck?
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_04: I just want I want to form my own opinion on it.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_04: I don't want to Yeah.
- 1:06:09SPEAKER_02: Is it what I guess?
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_04: I don't want to be influenced by these people.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_04: Like I that's I try him I'm trying to avoid reviews before I see things now.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_04: But it's tough.
- 1:06:19SPEAKER_01: I read tough I only read reviews that my friends write.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_01: But it's it's no it's tough.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_01: Especially like with Dunkirk specifically because I think Nolan had gone a while without making a film right like his last one was Dark Knight Rises before this.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_01: Am I right in saying that?
- 1:06:39SPEAKER_01: No it's Interstellar, sorry.
- 1:06:41SPEAKER_01: Interstellar, yeah.
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_01: Forgot about Interstellar.
- 1:06:43SPEAKER_01: Um so there was like what three like a three year gap.
- 1:06:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:06:47SPEAKER_01: I think three years.
- 1:06:49SPEAKER_04: Three years?
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_04: Something like that.
- 1:06:51SPEAKER_04: Interstellar was like 2014.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_04: A long time for him.
- 1:06:55SPEAKER_04: Interstellar is a very good year gap.
- 1:06:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_01: It's such a backpedal.
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_01: It's such a Interstellar was just like it was the most Nolan project I think thus far wherein like you know he talks about fucking time travel.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_01: It's all about love, Murph.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_01: But at least that had that had some sort of I could follow Matthew McConnell I know he was the lead.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_01: I know what this is trying to do.
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_01: Whereas Dunkirk just felt like you know what since I did all these big things I have license to sort of just you know not be on the on the ball even though I know that many people worked on this film they probably worked really hard on it but um it just I don't know why something so that's meant to be so grand feels so flat.
- 1:07:42SPEAKER_04: Feels so lackluster it's very annoying.
- 1:07:47SPEAKER_04: I'm just thinking about like so I've done I just like thinking about everything about him as well where he he only wears a suit to sit and so annoying he doesn't let people sit down on chairs.
- 1:07:58SPEAKER_02: Um you hear that's mad so ridiculous what is that?
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_01: It's so ridiculous I don't know I feel like odds war theory really gave white men the license to be dicks on purpose nobody can sit down like what what does that help anyway?
- 1:08:21SPEAKER_01: Exactly exactly I feel like yeah and then the everybody's clarifying like oh yeah it's it's they can't sit down on chairs specifically that's why you see pictures of Pattinson and John David Washington sitting down on like the railings on stairs or you know sitting down on fences and shit like that.
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_01: Um and that whole thing with like when Tenet was coming out you know and the pandemic just hit and he insisted on this has to be a theatrical release this has to be a theatrical release.
- 1:08:49SPEAKER_01: When right now it's gonna be on VOD next week and look what happens.
- 1:08:52SPEAKER_01: No exactly like not a big deal.
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_04: Sound mixing still terrible like it's not gonna it's I don't know I feel like when when you get to a place where you you feel very self-important I think the ghost with any art form like and like we were talking about earlier when you start losing touch with what people are saying when you start losing touch with people who you're trying to reach with your work then you're fucked I think like it's absolutely one other thing I want to this is so unimportant but one other thing I'm just noticing now I'm looking at the cinematographer and the picture on Rotten Tomatoes of him and he looks exactly like the um the uh married at first sight uh guy with the you know the beautiful one that was like the that like sweats and put like mayonnaise in his hair the internet the guy from Married at first sight yeah he looks like the guy from Married at first sight do you know what I mean with the with the mayonnaise in his hair and oh my god I want to google it wait wait what's the cinematographer's name?
- 1:09:53SPEAKER_04: Hoyt van Hoy Temmer it's just it might just be this picture.
- 1:10:00SPEAKER_01: Oh it's the g I know who you mean it's the guy from um 90 Day Fiancé right oh is it 90 Day Fiance?
- 1:10:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah the uh big ed or whatever yes yeah yeah yeah yeah I hate that guy oh my god fuck that guy but yeah oh my god they look exactly the same that's so fucking scary oh my god that's ridiculous that's so funny that's so funny it's got nothing to do with anything but I just thought that was really funny looking at him that's ridiculous I'm just trying to see like okay so it's got four hundred and sixty one reviews and thirty five of them are rotten yeah um but yeah it's what else is there to say about this other than yeah I just we can't stretch anything to say about it because it feels really it feels really superficial as a film.
- 1:10:56SPEAKER_01: That's a thing I've been trying to put into words it feels very superficial.
- 1:11:00SPEAKER_04: There's a clear lack of substance yeah and it's evident yeah lacking substance lacking anything it's not saying anything it feels it it wants it feels like it thinks like it's saying something yeah it thinks he's saying he thinks he's saying something with it but he's not actually saying anything so depressing.
- 1:11:22SPEAKER_02: Oh I thought you saw something no no no no no I didn't um I was just getting really annoyed um all right so let's let's talk about something nice then let's um let's be nice yeah what's um you know let's talk about some movies that you've enjoyed lately oh okay um if you do I watch movies um I don't know I'm springing this on you now I should have no that's okay that's okay I have been I really liked uh Minati I had really loved Minadi I think it's like one of the best of the year right I think it's also because I've been re-watching the Walking Dead that's why I was like oh Stephen Young my beloved I love um I've been yeah I've been watching a lot of like Robert Kirkman related like things I've I've just finished Invincible um Norman Reedus who's on The Walking Dead I watched um Boondock uh the Boondog Saints just yesterday oh no and I'm like oh man this is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen in my life but so many people love it um someone was gonna do that for this podcast and then she changed her mind last minute oh my god I don't know how you can defend that but like I think that's why she changed her mind yeah um I just like forgot that um Norman Redus was in it even though that's like one of the things he's known for um but what have I enjoyed?
- 1:12:43SPEAKER_01: I don't know I saw Army of the Dead which it's good it's I you know it's okay it's the only Zack Snyder film I think that has any color um that like I can visually watch that I can see sorry that's what I mean that I can see what's happening um I like Dawn of the Dead I adore Dawn of the Dead um but Army of the Dead is is very like I think again like it's very it could be camp but it isn't um but I had fun that's the thing I think I think I I've I've stopped trying to to do a oh this is good this is bad and sort of more like did I enjoy this did I have fun yeah so yeah um Minari definitely um I've been catching up on all the awards stuff um so I've been watching because I'm so late to it because I can't get any like access of what else have I been watching I've been watching a lot of TV I haven't watched a lot of TV what you're watching at the moment um mayor of Easttown um I'll say that still it's fucking sick it's sick everyone's raving about you and I just I need to get around to watching it's fun it's that thing of like I miss David Fincher the way he used to be and this is as close as I'll ever get not like visually it's just in the sort of it's slow it's about somebody kind of hard and kind of edgy it's very fun.
- 1:14:04SPEAKER_01: Not fun it's actually very very very sad but um I'm having fun with it.
- 1:14:08SPEAKER_01: It's fun to watch it's fun to watch I can't stop watching it.
- 1:14:11SPEAKER_01: Um yeah my parents are re-watching The Walking Dead so I'm walk watching that with them ahead of the final season this year.
- 1:14:19SPEAKER_01: The final season yeah the final season um I finished Invincible I think that's my f new favorite thing right now did you like it?
- 1:14:29SPEAKER_04: I did I really liked it.
- 1:14:31SPEAKER_01: It's fucking sick it gets fun it's so much fun.
- 1:14:34SPEAKER_01: The music the nidle drops are great um the voice acting is really great animation's brilliant and I'm reading um the fifth volume so I think I'm like two seasons ahead on the comic books which is really fun um and I've never read them before so and it's just been interesting to see like how they've adapted I love seeing that when they adapt how they adapt um storylines and stuff and yeah that's all I've been watching like my brain really just goes into a rabbit hole when I'm like into something I will watch I do the same thing.
- 1:15:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah um so what have you been watching what have you enjoyed um I've been see the thing is I've been watching a lot of the bad movies too like for these um this tends to be what I end up watching um other than that I watch I honestly can't think of what I've watched lately uh let me look at my letterbox I'm so bad with letterbox I need to do more edit I'm so bad at it let me see oh I watched the game again recently great fucking movie that's fun yeah that's hot girl shit right there oh I watched Together together recently that was is that good yeah it was really nice I'll check that out that's the one with Ed Helms right yeah yeah Patty Harrison sick sick I need to watch that it's really fun it's like it's just a a typical it's kind of a typical indie movie but it's just a nice watch it's it's a lighthearted you know nothing to do with it.
- 1:16:03SPEAKER_01: It's a great comedy isn't it like it's yeah that's cool.
- 1:16:05SPEAKER_01: I like that yeah I need to watch some lighthearted shit instead of watching you know the game over and over um and I want the rapper nobody as well.
- 1:16:15SPEAKER_01: Oh is that the Bob Odenkirk one yeah it's fine it's fine it's not it's it's oh man he's good in it but like it's fine it's you know it's what you think it's gonna be cool I'm excited very violent.
- 1:16:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah that's why I'm so excited yeah I love action movies um the best scene in it is the one in the trailer as well that that the in all the books okay I haven't seen the trailer yet I've been trying I've been trying to avoid trailers like you've been avoiding reviews I've been avoiding trailers um because they've been all over the place lately but I did see the trailer for in the heights because I've yeah I gotta see it's about 12 trailers for in the heights yeah exactly so it's it's fine it's like one for every song in the movie but yeah that's that's what I've enjoyed I've just been like rewatching stuff I don't think I have the capacity right now to watch new stuff unless it's like yeah Army of the dead because it's mindless and about zombies I'm not even sure I've been re-watching stuff I'm trying to look at what I've been watching oh you know what I've really enjoyed that's like I watched a couple weeks ago um View from the Top which is like a horrid like Gweneth Paltrow film from 2003 so was it you that um it was probably me that was like I want to do this on the podcast let me do it yeah it's probably me was it you that had like four different movies and I was like oh you should do one of those yeah it was probably me because I was just watching really shitty movies for like a week um which is what I it's beautiful the top looks I cannot believe that's a real movie but it's I'm actually like really I really enjoy the production design um because it's super campy.
- 1:17:47SPEAKER_01: And now I'm like ugh Mark Ruffalo isn't it oh isn't it wait who it's Gwyneth Pautrow right Gwyneth Paltrow, Mark Ruffalo Christina Applegate and Mike Myers.
- 1:17:59SPEAKER_01: I thought it was uh Gwyneth Paltrow and Mike Myers with the two leads no Mark Myers is in a supporting role and he is very I don't know I mean he's good in everything I think like I think he he understands his assignment and in this it's one of those things we're like oh this came out in the 2000s I don't know if this will fly now do you know I mean like yeah um I don't know if this will fly now a movie about flying I was thinking that yeah oh have you seen Barb and Star go to Vista del Mar yes yes I really like that film I love that film um it's so much fun it's so funny the music is great I somebody the other day compared it to like a live action the closest the live action Spongebob film will ever get to being good and I'm like yeah that's exactly what this is that is so true.
- 1:18:51SPEAKER_01: So colorful so much fun um I love a good spy story I love a good spy story I love a good love story yeah and Kristen Wig I could watch her in anything oh yeah I watched her in Wonder Woman and I hate Wonder Woman like I still haven't seen the second one didn't like the first one it's not worth it I only yeah I only saw it for a man that has now disappointed me um as many do but um Pedro yeah yeah what's he disappointed you with I think his fans are the ones that are like disappointing me they're like super embarrassing it's it reminds me a lot of like One Direction it reminds me exactly of the One Direction fandom actually they're all very like invasive and weird and and like stop babying this grown man he's literally 45 like he's 45 Jesus Christ right the time um but yeah I'm trying to look I'm look I'm looking at all the the awards movies as well trying to see if you've seen any of them uh Judas and the Black Messiah yes I saw that that was really good I really liked it um I wish they were more like I don't know I I really liked it but I understand other people sort of like complaints of they f they forget how radical Fred Hampson really was and they forget how yeah radical the Panthers really were and obviously it's like this it's it's a movie.
- 1:20:08SPEAKER_01: They can only do so much in a few hours but no I get it.
- 1:20:11SPEAKER_01: I didn't like Promising Young Woman I'm gonna say that loud and clear um many white girls who come either love it or hate it.
- 1:20:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah I know it's very polarizing but I also feel like how can you like this?
- 1:20:23SPEAKER_04: Like it's I get why people don't like it.
- 1:20:25SPEAKER_04: I yeah I did like it.
- 1:20:27SPEAKER_04: Okay fair um I don't know if I'm gonna I don't know if it's gonna be one that holds up yeah in a few years I feel like it's gonna yeah I feel like in a few years I'm gonna be like oh yeah this was not Yeah it's not it um what else?
- 1:20:42SPEAKER_01: What else is in the I saw Nomad Lid you see Nomad Liddy Nomadland I liked it just okay.
- 1:20:50SPEAKER_01: I thought it was gonna be this like Yeah I don't think it was amazing.
- 1:20:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah but I wasn't swept away by it as I thought I would be but I I liked it.
- 1:20:57SPEAKER_01: I enjoyed it um it's very like it's also very polarizing um especially with like people of our politics and such um what else is there?
- 1:21:09SPEAKER_04: I think visually it was great but visually it was gorgeous.
- 1:21:12SPEAKER_04: The story went fine.
- 1:21:14SPEAKER_01: That was okay you know um it's alright what else was uh mank I saw mankind I saw mankind I haven't seen mank and I have no intention of seeing mankind Okay I keep saying this but like this man could have been making Mindhunter season three and yet this is what he was doing.
- 1:21:33SPEAKER_04: What is he doing?
- 1:21:34SPEAKER_01: Why didn't I know why he made it because of his dad his dad yeah but um men ugly men will do anything but go to therapy and make Mindhunter season three it looks like it's rant it's boring Gary Oldman is in it don't like him um yeah I know that's another reason I didn't want to watch it why I'm not watching Gary Oldman um what else what else was on award season oh but the awards season feel like such a blur this year because it was just like the the dumbest like the Oscars were so stupid hate watching it was also equally stupid but um I'd find I still watch them every year even though I like me too my goodness yeah but at least now I'm I can watch it at a time that's appropriate for me as opposed to like at 2 a day in the UK yeah it's in the daytime broad daylight I'm having breakfast you know um do they air it live there um yeah if you could find it they air it live um I just found like um but for example yeah but yeah but Disney Plus like had it for some reason here.
- 1:22:38SPEAKER_01: What?
- 1:22:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah yeah yeah they had like all the they had the announcements the behind the scenes stuff they had the carpet and then they had the ceremony which I thought was really weird.
- 1:22:46SPEAKER_01: It was like oh man so Disney really does own everything so scary what a scary stars here now on Disney Plus oh no way on the star network yeah so we got like we got Nomad Land on Disney Plus we did as well oh you did yeah yeah we did as well not for the same reasons I think but probably for the same reasons I don't know but yeah what else is on that's the thing with like media consumption I don't know like the Walking Dead's on there oh yeah that's where I've been watching it oh so you've got the same stuff yeah yeah yeah you've literally got the same stuff so some because we I I wasn't sure because like America don't have the Star Network on Disney Plus there yeah America's weird um they have to pay$30 to watch Cruella I still haven't seen Raya in the last dragon even though I've pounds here oh you're fucking kidding me that's I'm not paying it I'm not I I I saw the clip I'm not watching that.
- 1:23:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah yeah yeah of course like the her rolling down the like Dalmatians are responsible for her mother's death and that's why she hates dogs.
- 1:23:44SPEAKER_01: So dumb that's so fucking stupid that's such female joker behavior but I've I've I've you know I've spoken to some friends and they really enjoyed it so I might give it a shot.
- 1:23:53SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah I've never I haven't seen Raya and the last dragon yet even though I'm Southeast Asian and I should have I don't know ripes to see it because that princess is where I'm from um I don't know why we can't see it yet oh they haven't released it yet it's like it's in cinemas but cinemas are half open half closed you know what I mean and then it's on it's not on streaming yet so I'm just yeah I've just been watching The Walking Dead and I'm in a deep Walking Dead rabbit hole of like Do you watch uh feel the Walking Dead?
- 1:24:24SPEAKER_04: I used to I think I stopped around season three because I just couldn't keep up um and I only watched season three because a guy that had a crush on from Teen Wolf was on it again showing my age um it's a cycle I was gonna say because I had a guest on a few weeks ago who's and then like a um like a few days later she was like oh I'm in the I'm in Fear the Walking Dead I've got an announcement to make like I'm in this show now.
- 1:24:49SPEAKER_01: Oh sick that was so awesome.
- 1:24:51SPEAKER_04: You didn't tell me that you could have just told me that off air that's awesome that's so cool.
- 1:24:57SPEAKER_01: But yeah Fear the Walking Dead is pretty good but not as good as the original show but the shows I don't know I think I'm sentimental about like TV shows because I like the cast and I like I watched the first series of fear the uh of The Walking Dead never watched anything else beyond that.
- 1:25:13SPEAKER_04: That's okay.
- 1:25:14SPEAKER_01: And then I saw Steven Yen's death yeah yeah everybody saw that's when I stopped watching I was like you killed my baby I'm not gonna talk to you like that that's intense it's intense it's horrible it's a horrible death my god um and I was gonna what was I gonna say um yeah I stopped watching it after he died and then I started watching it again when my parents watched it and I was like actually it's okay the rest of the way it doesn't have to be good but I just want to see what happens which is like my relationship with this show oh I'm gonna go see um those who wish me dead in the cinemas I think on Monday.
- 1:25:51SPEAKER_01: That new Angelina Jolie film it's the new Taylor Sheridan one I don't know that I'm gonna go see Angelina Jolie's in it John Bernthal is in it and I have the biggest crush on him what a surprise yeah what a shocker another hot old guy geez Ari Gruber.
- 1:26:09SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah sorry we've derailed completely I mean we can only talk about it for so long Nicholas Holt's in it oh yeah yeah yeah yeah he is oh skin Perry oh dear oh oh really it's like it's gonna be a surprise gone girl situation where you're watching Gone Girl and suddenly Tyler Perry shows up I mean he's uh two four eighth down in the list okay we c Gone girl um yeah and Aidan Gillen who who can go either way like yeah who can go either way um I'll either be good or terrible he'll do some kind of terrible accent for sure I re-watched 12 rounds recently and I was like he can't keep an accent to save his life he sounds like me when I speak to anyone and that's not a good look for an actor um why is your accent so like it's because I'm switched between I don't know maybe it's a personality disorder and maybe it's because I grew up in between like seven countries or some shit.
- 1:27:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah like what which which are the countries that's why that's what I meant like which countries um I grew up so I grew up in Australia I grew up in Indonesia I grew up in the UK I grew up in Kuwait and I think Kuwait might have been where I got all the different accents because I went to a really massive like um English private school all the friggin expat kids and I was just like the weird I just teach you American English um no I went to an English school um but in Indonesia they do in Indonesia they teach you American English oh right that makes sense so that's where all the because I do hear like American people I codes I code switch like crazy especially here because like if I'm at work like if I'm at work I'll sound like this because they're not used to because they're not used to hearing people sound like this.
- 1:27:53SPEAKER_01: And you'll also get like people look at you weird you know I mean and then the other day I saw my mate who first time I went outside with her Went to a dog park with one of my like best mates and she's from London but she's Indonesian.
- 1:28:06SPEAKER_01: She just came back and it was just like so refreshing just to hear the accent again.
- 1:28:13SPEAKER_01: Even though everyone I speak to um like this virtually sounds like this.
- 1:28:18SPEAKER_04: But um Yeah, because you still do your podcast and everything.
- 1:28:21SPEAKER_01: I still do my podcast and everything, allegedly.
- 1:28:24SPEAKER_02: Um I need to edit, I'm so lazy.
- 1:28:26SPEAKER_02: Um I don't know how you do it.
- 1:28:29SPEAKER_02: Oh, I'm so tired.
- 1:28:32SPEAKER_01: But yeah, no, it's it's yeah, it's because I've I grew up everywhere.
- 1:28:35SPEAKER_01: I've been a bit of everywhere because my dad works in aviation, so we flew out a lot when I was younger.
- 1:28:41SPEAKER_01: Oh wow.
- 1:28:41SPEAKER_01: Um so yeah, I've just got this really weird hodgepodge accent, and I can I can pick up that's the thing, I can pick up many accents.
- 1:28:49SPEAKER_01: Um because I also because I can speak lots of different languages, which is fun.
- 1:28:54SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah, that's a little bit more.
- 1:28:56SPEAKER_01: Which language do you speak then?
- 1:28:57SPEAKER_01: I speak English, Indonesian, Spanish, French.
- 1:29:01SPEAKER_01: I learned German in high school, I speak Arabic, and I learned Mandarin in high school.
- 1:29:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:29:06SPEAKER_01: It's many, like I can I can understand many of them, and I'll I can speak them if I'm not shy, but like it's one of those things where I'm kind of like, I'll put it on my C V just so you'll hire me.
- 1:29:17SPEAKER_01: But don't ask me to like I can watch shit without the subtitles kind of thing.
- 1:29:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but I'm not yeah.
- 1:29:25SPEAKER_01: That's enough.
- 1:29:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's okay.
- 1:29:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I'm I I wish I could get that level.
- 1:29:30SPEAKER_04: I'm I'm very basic Spanish.
- 1:29:34SPEAKER_04: I've forgotten everything about Japanese.
- 1:29:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's a hard one.
- 1:29:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:29:41SPEAKER_04: Because I lived there for a year and a half and like I should remember, but like I've forgotten so much.
- 1:29:46SPEAKER_01: Because everyone there like has to speak Japanese, right?
- 1:29:49SPEAKER_01: Like everyone in Japan virtually like everywhere you go, you have to speak it.
- 1:29:54SPEAKER_01: Like very few people.
- 1:29:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but they all want to speak English to you.
- 1:29:56SPEAKER_01: Oh, I get it.
- 1:29:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's like a weird like they're learning, yeah.
- 1:30:02SPEAKER_04: Like in if you go and like try and buy something, they really want to speak English to you.
- 1:30:05SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's cute.
- 1:30:06SPEAKER_03: Oh right.
- 1:30:07SPEAKER_04: I remember like the the per the woman in the supermarket.
- 1:30:10SPEAKER_04: I used to remember like she used to like get so excited when I come in because she'd get to speak English for the day.
- 1:30:15SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's cool.
- 1:30:16SPEAKER_01: That's so cute.
- 1:30:17SPEAKER_01: But it's also weird because like um I we both l look obviously Asian, and then when you go in and like you don't that happened to me in Japan once as well, just be like, Oh, you don't speak it.
- 1:30:27SPEAKER_02: Okay, and then they started to in English because they were expecting more stuff to come out of your mouth.
- 1:30:32SPEAKER_04: Um that that's what That's funny, though they they they never expected me to speak it.
- 1:30:36SPEAKER_04: Really?
- 1:30:37SPEAKER_04: Yeah, they do not expect me to speak yeah, because they also didn't know what I was they could never place me.
- 1:30:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:30:43SPEAKER_04: Um yeah, it's funny.
- 1:30:47SPEAKER_04: Um cool.
- 1:30:48SPEAKER_04: So like uh how long we've got an hour and a half, so we're probably.
- 1:30:52SPEAKER_01: Damn, yeah, we need to wrap this up.
- 1:30:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah, let's wrap this up.
- 1:30:55SPEAKER_04: Um I don't even we're we were talking about Dunkirk.
- 1:31:01SPEAKER_02: We were not we were talking about Dunkirk barely.
- 1:31:03SPEAKER_02: Um you have to edit so much out.
- 1:31:06SPEAKER_04: I'm not editing this out.
- 1:31:09SPEAKER_04: We're gonna be talking, yeah.
- 1:31:10SPEAKER_04: This is a celebration episode.
- 1:31:14SPEAKER_01: We have to talk about Dunkirk as well, but we're yeah, we're just looking back.
- 1:31:16SPEAKER_01: What what are episodes right?
- 1:31:18SPEAKER_01: I'll do the I'll do the interrogating for a bit before we wrap up.
- 1:31:21SPEAKER_01: What are the what are the films that you've enjoyed?
- 1:31:23SPEAKER_01: The the bad films that you've enjoyed over the last um 50 episodes.
- 1:31:28SPEAKER_04: Good question.
- 1:31:28SPEAKER_04: Okay, so I really did enjoy Showgirls.
- 1:31:31SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 1:31:31SPEAKER_04: So I'm glad you gave me that one.
- 1:31:33SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 1:31:34SPEAKER_04: Um I liked I mean let me look through them.
- 1:31:42SPEAKER_04: I enjoyed Venom more than I thought I would.
- 1:31:45SPEAKER_02: Hell yeah.
- 1:31:46SPEAKER_04: I love Wet Wet Hot American Summer, but I already knew I did.
- 1:31:51SPEAKER_04: Um Hot Rod, obviously.
- 1:31:57SPEAKER_01: Hell yeah.
- 1:32:00SPEAKER_01: A virtually perfect film, by the way.
- 1:32:02SPEAKER_01: I don't know why this was on the list.
- 1:32:03SPEAKER_01: Who fucking hates Hot Rod, yeah.
- 1:32:06SPEAKER_01: Critically tened.
- 1:32:08SPEAKER_04: I love Hot Rod, but I I know it's not as good as Popstar.
- 1:32:11SPEAKER_01: It's not as good.
- 1:32:12SPEAKER_01: Nothing is as good as Popstar.
- 1:32:14SPEAKER_04: I know.
- 1:32:15SPEAKER_04: Um And then, interestingly, I liked I came round on Wild on Batman and Robin and Wild Wild West.
- 1:32:26SPEAKER_01: I'm actually really glad you said that because I love Batman and Robin and Wild Wild West to some extent.
- 1:32:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they're really fun.
- 1:32:34SPEAKER_01: They're really fun, they're really camp, they're really like, you know, um, they just don't give a sh they don't give a shit.
- 1:32:41SPEAKER_01: Like they're just yeah, they they're the film, those two films specifically set out exactly what they wanted to do, even though nobody liked what they were doing.
- 1:32:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:32:51SPEAKER_04: I mean there are moments in Barbara West that I cannot defend.
- 1:32:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah, of course.
- 1:32:55SPEAKER_04: Batman Robin itself is just like so much fun.
- 1:32:57SPEAKER_01: So much fun, and it's uh like I think one of the best like designed films in a really long time, especially a comic book adaptation before everybody decided, oh, we have to be dark and grey and boring and the same.
- 1:33:10SPEAKER_04: Taking it back to Christopher Nolan.
- 1:33:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's his fault.
- 1:33:12SPEAKER_04: He's the one that kind of brought that in.
- 1:33:13SPEAKER_04: Motherfucker.
- 1:33:14SPEAKER_01: This is what happens.
- 1:33:15SPEAKER_01: You put the Joker in dark purple, that was it, that was your fault, sir.
- 1:33:19SPEAKER_01: Um he should have been wearing the brightest colours um in Gotham.
- 1:33:23SPEAKER_04: He he really did like change superhero movies.
- 1:33:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I don't know, for the worse, probably, definitely not for the better.
- 1:33:33SPEAKER_04: Him and Zack Snyder, I would say I like that too.
- 1:33:36SPEAKER_01: Oh man, but I actually really like the Snyder Cup.
- 1:33:39SPEAKER_01: Like I enjoyed it.
- 1:33:40SPEAKER_04: I haven't seen the Snyder cart because I really it's like four hours of your life and we're gonna get back.
- 1:33:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, fair.
- 1:33:45SPEAKER_01: Fair.
- 1:33:46SPEAKER_04: Other than like I do like the Nolan like Batmans, but other but I don't like DC.
- 1:33:51SPEAKER_01: I grew up reading DC, so the films are just like a letdown anyway, but I I'll always have the source material to fall back onto.
- 1:33:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:34:01SPEAKER_04: I'm not a huge like comic book reader, so I don't know like massive backstories of anything, but like yeah.
- 1:34:08SPEAKER_04: I've read all the I've read the classic stuff.
- 1:34:11SPEAKER_01: It's fair enough.
- 1:34:13SPEAKER_04: But yeah, thank you so much for coming back on.
- 1:34:16SPEAKER_04: Thank you for having me.
- 1:34:17SPEAKER_04: And then I had to end it.
- 1:34:18SPEAKER_01: Thank you for chatting to me for this long about Don Kirk and everything else.
- 1:34:24SPEAKER_01: It's fun.
- 1:34:24SPEAKER_01: It's fun.
- 1:34:25SPEAKER_04: Thank you for re-watching it twice.
- 1:34:27SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 1:34:27SPEAKER_01: Okay, once and a half.
- 1:34:29SPEAKER_01: Um twice as generous.
- 1:34:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, twice.
- 1:34:31SPEAKER_04: One and a half times for like twenty minutes of talk time, maybe in this whole episode.
- 1:34:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because who had any I did not know what was going on.
- 1:34:39SPEAKER_01: Like I can't I couldn't have just come on here being like, Yannis, I can't remember anything.
- 1:34:42SPEAKER_01: Like I'd but yeah, thank you for having me.
- 1:34:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah.

- 1:35:08SPEAKER_02: Um I write the stupidest shit.
- 1:35:11SPEAKER_01: It's fun.
- 1:35:12SPEAKER_01: It lives in my brain rent-free, yeah.
- 1:35:14SPEAKER_01: My newsletter, I talk about everything from, you know, what movies, TV, or I'm watching.
- 1:35:19SPEAKER_04: I do feel like such a boomer reading it though.
- 1:35:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, whatever, yeah, or like whatever antics that any male celebrity gets up to, which are stupid that I like talking about, um, which I shouldn't really be talking about because they're all like horrible predatory men.
- 1:35:33SPEAKER_01: Um I'm very problematic, you guys.
- 1:35:36SPEAKER_01: Um just to put that out there.
- 1:35:38SPEAKER_01: Um, and I've got um I I did a song for Pinata's Eurovision uh song contest parody.

- 1:36:03SPEAKER_01: Two days because two days.
- 1:36:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, two days for two days for the video.
- 1:36:07SPEAKER_01: The song took me ages.
- 1:36:08SPEAKER_01: Um Wow.
- 1:36:10SPEAKER_01: But that was kind of just because I was like, you know what, just just fuck it.
- 1:36:14SPEAKER_01: That was because I planned really, really well.
- 1:36:16SPEAKER_01: Um but thank you.
- 1:36:17SPEAKER_01: I really appreciate that.
- 1:36:18SPEAKER_01: I did work really hard on it.
- 1:36:19SPEAKER_01: Um check that out.
- 1:36:20SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, I think that's I've got a podcast that's coming back hopefully this the next month because I'm gonna give myself that leeway because I'm really tired of episodes.
