Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Let's talk about the question that everyone is thinking, but not always asking out loud, can you actually make money as a life coach or is it just another one of those things where a few people here and there are successful and everybody else is failing well, well, well.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_00]: You are in the right place.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_00]: you are in the right room to ask this question to think about it and to get some legitimate answers, which is what I'm going to go over with you today.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_00]: You have probably seen a ton of coaches making millions and millions of dollars in driving around in fancy cars and playing around on private jets.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_00]: Or maybe not.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I'm really
- 0:38[SPEAKER_00]: We've seen it all on the internet, but I don't want it that to scare you.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_00]: I want it to inspire you if that's what you want for yourself.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_00]: But I also want to normalize that coaching is a skill set that can be transferred into so many different offers and not all of them include Chanel bags, private jets, or talking about how much money you're making on the internet.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of them are a little bit of like a quieter.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_00]: Well, but I don't want to talk about hype in this episode.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_00]: I want to talk about realistic.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_00]: And I also hate that word because realistic is kind of boring and uninspiring for the most part, but a lot of people are considering making a pretty big investment in their coaching education or in a coaching business.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_00]: So instead of just looking at the hype, I want to talk about the reality and what you can really expect based on.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_00]: your personal and professional experience, the training or education level or credential level that you have, and what are normal prices in the coaching industry?
- 1:27[SPEAKER_00]: I talked to someone the other day who is charging $50,000 to work with her for the whole year as a one-on-one coach.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_00]: All right, she's been coaching for eight years or so, PCC level, which is the ICF level two credential,
- 1:41[SPEAKER_00]: And she's really, really built a following for herself on the internet.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_00]: Now, that is just one thing.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_00]: That is just one example, right?
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: I think that that sounds pretty magical.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_00]: And if I knew that I could make $50,000 per...
- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: run it back.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_00]: If we haven't met before, my name's Olivia.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_00]: I am a former public school teacher.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_00]: This was now 13ish years ago.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_00]: I taught in DC public schools.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: I was making about 38,000 dollars a year with the master's degree.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_00]: If someone had told me you could make $50,000 in one client, which was more than I made an entire year of work, I would have been like, that's insane.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_00]: But what I know now this far into things is that it is absolutely more than possible, and I do see these kind of numbers happening all the time.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_00]: But I also see some kind of more normal or realistic numbers happening all the time.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_00]: So enough of me yapping, let's get into it.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_00]: You can absolutely make money as a coach.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_00]: You can package your services in so many different ways.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_00]: Coaching is a skill-based business, all right?
- 2:47[SPEAKER_00]: So the real thing you have to be great at is coaching.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_00]: That's the number one thing you have to be great at.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, you also have to be great at marketing.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_00]: You also have to be great at sales.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: You have to grow into these things, especially if you want to have a coaching business versus
- 3:01[SPEAKER_00]: work internally as a coach inside of an organization, which is also a very lucrative opportunity or option that you have.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_00]: But we're going to start with the research.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_00]: So I see F, which is the International Coach Federation, which is who we are accredited through, puts out research every year.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_00]: And I want to caveat this by saying, the research that they are doing pertains to credentialed coaches.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_00]: So they're not just surveying anyone who has coach on their Instagram or TikTok bio.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_00]: They are surveying coaches with an actual credential.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: So average price of a coaching session in North America according to the most recent ICF.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_00]: data is $297 per session.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so we're going to play with that number.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_00]: I'm also going to play with some numbers that we have seen our current students use and I'm also going to tell you where I was successfully coaching at 13 years ago when 13 years ago.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_00]: RIP my youth.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_00]: 13 years ago, after I got coach training, I started with the ACC associate certified coach level that's level one in the ICF now, things have changed since then.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_00]: So sorry if I'm confusing you 60 hours of training is what it takes to be ACC.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_00]: That is where that was my starting point.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_00]: When I got my first paid coaching clients,
- 4:26[SPEAKER_00]: which was the same as $250 per month if we were meeting every other week or $500 per month if we were meeting every week.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_00]: This was in 2013.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_00]: And I say that to say things have changed inflation is inflation is inflation.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_00]: And if that still sounds like a good starting point for you, um, do the math, and we're going to do some together.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: It only took me six clients to be making taking home more than my entire educator salary.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: So.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_00]: My goal then was to make $3,000 a month.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, my goals have significantly changed over the years, but at that point, that was what my goal was to be able to confidently not go back to teaching.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so I want to pull up a little calculator that we created at IGC.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_00]: You can go to it yourself.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_00]: You can play with it all you want.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_00]: It's innerglocircle.com slash ROI.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_00]: Let's take a look at what is possible, probable, and also I do want to run some numbers with you that show what is just absolutely freaking exciting.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: Coaching business calculator.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_00]: So here's where we started.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_00]: Right now in 2026, we recommend we don't require because we don't
- 5:41[SPEAKER_00]: every person who goes to our school gets to choose whatever price they want for their services, but we do recommend that a good coach in training, a good starting point is $150 per session.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_00]: So if you sign up for IGC today and you want to get your first client in a few weeks, that's what you could start at, all right.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_00]: Now we're going to look at, we're going to drag the slider to adjust our clients.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_00]: How many clients can you take on per week?
- 6:04[SPEAKER_00]: This slider goes from
- 6:08[SPEAKER_00]: Let's say realistically in your first month of training, you think you can take six weekly clients.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_00]: All right, I typically say that if you're going to coach six clients for an hour a week, you also need to plan at least six hours a week of marketing, lead follow-up, lead generation.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_00]: That's how you get those clients.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_00]: One little trick.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_00]: This is a total sidebar.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: But I had also wanted six clients when I first started.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_00]: I blocked off those six hours on my calendar where I wanted to meet with my clients and when I didn't have them yet, I used those same six hours on my calendar to get them meaning sharing content reaching out to leads booking networking events again.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_00]: This was 2013 the internet was a little bit different and I did it all without AI so let me just.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_00]: So all that to say, if you don't have the client yet, if you're kind of manifesting or manifesting, actuallyning them into reality, you need to block off the hours on your calendar now and what you're doing during that time is you are doing client generating activities.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_00]: So let's talk about it.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_00]: You entered IGC coach training.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: You are ready to go.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_00]: You got through your first four weeks of training.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_00]: So now you know how to confidently run most of a coaching call.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_00]: and you're surrounded by other people going through training, people who have graduated training, you're getting professional development as much as you want all week long, so you feel so good about charging this rate.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_00]: You have six weekly clients.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_00]: You are now making $3600 a month.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_00]: from your clients, annual revenue, so look at that.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_00]: Isn't it exciting?
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: It's a race.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's a race.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_00]: Say you're like, that's insane.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_00]: I could never charge $150 per session like I told you.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_00]: I was charging one 25.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: You can put it right there in that custom calculator and see the difference.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_00]: That was my goal.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_00]: That was my goal in 2013.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_00]: That's crazy.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't even mean to do that.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_00]: All right, say you are, you've recently been laid off.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe that's a blessing, maybe you quit your job, maybe you had a baby in your home from work, but you want to start doing something, so you have a little bit more time, right?
- 8:14[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe you're just like, I'm a boss and I'm in a charge $200 in a session, and I have approximately 10 hours a week that I can work with my clients.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, okay.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_00]: One more and we're over the six figure mark typically I would say however many clients you have at least when you're doing one on one coaching I always say to double it.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_00]: That's how many hours you need to be working.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: That's not a rule Some people start with a lot more business knowledge than others.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: There are variables in that But this is how I want you to look now.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_00]: Let's say
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: I want you to think of things like it's not just 11 clients, but you're not just showing up unless you're working for someone else.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: You are doing marketing.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_00]: You are doing lead generation.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: You are taking consultation calls.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: So if you know you want to have 11 clients, you need to also block out 11 hours on your calendar to build the business.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_00]: I have so many other episodes on how to do that.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: I'll link a couple here.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_00]: But that's kind of how you want to think about things.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to downplay it and be like, you're only working 11 hours a week.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: That would be a huge lie.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_00]: And you're going to hear that on other channels, but not here.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: All right, now let's say you have gone through IGC, maybe you went through a four-month program, or eight-month program, you are at PCC, baby!
- 9:21[SPEAKER_00]: Now listen, I love the ICF and I love coaching.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think MCC is a requirement to each their own, but PCC is kind of where it's at.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_00]: That's what's going to get you in the door and organizations and corporations too, and maybe you're getting out of a corporate environment and you're like, I would never want to go back there.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_00]: but be to be coaching isn't so bad.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: All right, pros and cons.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_00]: But you want to get your PCC credential.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_00]: ACC is me.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_00]: I held ACC credential for not even a year.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_00]: I think before I upgraded to PCC.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_00]: PCC just opens more doors, more opportunities.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_00]: It gives you a lot of confidence.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_00]: So now we're fully credentialed.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_00]: We are PCC.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_00]: We are killing it.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_00]: We have quit our jobs.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_00]: So now we're coaching full time.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_00]: And we don't
- 10:03[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm trickling it up here.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_00]: Now you have 15 weekly clients.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, looks good to me.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_00]: looks good to me.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't have group programs set up on here.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_00]: You obviously could play with that.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_00]: So for example, use this choose your own rate section.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_00]: Say you want to have a group coaching program.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_00]: Say there's 10 people in it.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_00]: They're each paying you $500 a month, right?
- 10:27[SPEAKER_00]: That equates to $125 per week.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_00]: So just from your group coaching cohort, you are making 60 grand a year.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_00]: Got it?
- 10:40[SPEAKER_00]: realistically or unrealistically figure out what you want to be doing.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not even going to lie to you.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: I charge over $500 per session at this point.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_00]: I've been coaching for 13 years.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_00]: I can't I don't have the capacity to take on a lot of one-on-one clients, but definitely don't take on 10 weekly anymore while running this company.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_00]: But we'll say five.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_00]: That's pretty.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_00]: on par.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_00]: So you don't have to be coaching for 10 years to charge this.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_00]: You do have to have a product meaning a coaching service that is really great that is really easy to understand the problem that you solve and it has to be a problem that people are willing to pay to have solved.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_00]: All right, but no matter where you're at, no matter what you're comfortable with, play with this and get an idea to get a PCC credential pretty much anywhere.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_00]: You're you're going five to twenty five thousand dollars.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_00]: It just depends.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_00]: I've seen colleges or universities charge full tuition for a coaching certificate.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think you necessarily need to go that route.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, a program like IGC worked.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: In the middle, the PCC is around 10,000, but that includes your mentor coaching, business building, all of that, but where else can you invest?
- 11:49[SPEAKER_00]: $10,000, and with just five clients, make back that investment in less than two months.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_00]: And some of you might be thinking to sounds completely unrealistic.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: Some people might be thinking, why are you aiming so low?
- 12:03[SPEAKER_00]: Everyone's starting point is going to be a little bit different.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_00]: Go here to interglosterico.com slash ROI and figure out what makes sense for you.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_00]: And quite honestly, the real thing you have to worry about is time.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_00]: So if you are absolutely stretched then for time, you wanna set this realistic for you for now.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_00]: And remember, depending on how many clients you want, double that, that's the work that it's gonna take to get them.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so if you wanna acquire five clients a week, you need five hours on the calendar to generate those clients.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_00]: If you're like, what do we actually do?
- 12:31[SPEAKER_00]: I can't give it all away, like I said, oh, link those videos, but that's where training really comes in.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_00]: to play, and it's not just like being in class or being an IGC, it's being surrounded by teachers, mentors, other people who are doing the things you are doing, being in community, having a place to go to be held accountable and to be around other people building businesses.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_00]: Like that is what makes training so much better.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_00]: Anyone can just Google how to do anything.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: That is true.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody can fight me on that one.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_00]: But why doesn't everyone do it?
- 13:07[SPEAKER_00]: you find other things to do, you distract yourself, you get in your own head, you don't have the right people surrounding you to actually become successful in your own right.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_00]: So this is how you make money as a coach.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_00]: I hope seeing some of these numbers helps you see what's possible for you and go ahead and play with that calculator, get excited, get excited and trust that at least when it comes to IGC, you just need the why.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_00]: We are the how to your why.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_00]: If you do want to be a coach, if you do want to change lives, that's exactly what we teach inside of IGC.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 13:46[SPEAKER_00]: That's how you make money as a coach.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_00]: One on one group, those are the most common.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, you can play around with that custom calculator.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_00]: If you want to look at what it might be for digital products or retreats or anything like that, enjoy, get excited.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_00]: Allow this to inspire you.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_00]: And if you're curious about next steps, just leave a comment here or go to intergloster.com slash call.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_00]: And spend 10 minutes on the phone with us.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_00]: We'll tell you how to do it and whether it's right for you.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_00]: All right, until next time, happy money making.
