- 0:15Speaker 1: Hey, everybody, welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark. I'm Megan, I'm Wendy,
- 0:18Speaker 1: and today we are discussing jolly good Christmas from Hallmarks
- 0:23Speaker 1: countdown to Christmas line up. Before we get into our
- 0:26Speaker 1: thoughts about this movie, we'd like to remind you that
- 0:29Speaker 1: we love your ratings and reviews. Girls Gone Hallmark is
- 0:33Speaker 1: technically a brand new podcast and we wanted to find
- 0:36Speaker 1: its audience, and your reviews help us do that, So
- 0:39Speaker 1: thank you to those of you who have left your
- 0:42Speaker 1: lovely reviews so far. Keep them coming.
- 0:45Speaker 2: I'm trying to make a reel on our Instagram stories,
- 0:48Speaker 2: because we have a Girl's Gone Hallmark Instagram if you're
- 0:51Speaker 2: not following it, I'm trying to do like fun polls
- 0:54Speaker 2: and ask questions and like stuff like that over there.
- 0:56Speaker 2: But I tried to make a reel of snapshots of
- 1:01Speaker 2: our reviews for Girls Gone Hallmark, and I didn't have
- 1:04Speaker 2: enough to fill the whole like real because they had
- 1:09Speaker 2: like a song behind it, and I was like.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Really wanted the whole song to play.
- 1:12Speaker 2: I wanted the snippet to play at least, and I
- 1:16Speaker 2: was like, this is not working. I need some more reviews.
- 1:18Speaker 2: So anyway, Yeah, So find us on Instagram at Girls
- 1:21Speaker 2: Gone Homework. We also have a Facebook group. It's private.
- 1:26Speaker 2: It's called Girls Gone Hallmark. Lots of Hamewark fans over there,
- 1:30Speaker 2: and we're letting people in like left and right. Makes
- 1:32Speaker 2: me so happy. People are engaging and they talk about
- 1:36Speaker 2: the movies after the movies come out and what they
- 1:38Speaker 2: like and what they didn't like. And over the weekend
- 1:41Speaker 2: I did this like from where we watch movies, and
- 1:46Speaker 2: Megan commented, She's like, I don't even know where this
- 1:49Speaker 2: is at, Wendy, like, where are you? I was in
- 1:52Speaker 2: my extra bedroom.
- 1:52Speaker 1: I realized that after the fact. I think I've been
- 1:54Speaker 1: in there once.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Just yeah, it's.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Like it's it's a couch and a TV.
- 1:59Speaker 2: It's a couch and TA like the size of the bedroom.
- 2:01Speaker 2: It's a small bedroom and this TV is like so
- 2:03Speaker 2: wanster huge in there by accident.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Yah, push yourself up against the wall.
- 2:07Speaker 2: So yeahuse my eyes hurt when I you know. Anyway,
- 2:10Speaker 2: that's where I watched this weekend. So I always think
- 2:12Speaker 2: it's fun to see you like where everybody else's I
- 2:14Speaker 2: know that was fun and their movies not. So come
- 2:17Speaker 2: find us over there.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Before we talk about Jolly good Christmas. Let's talk about
- 2:20Speaker 1: some Hallmark news and notes. Very timely, Will Camp, star
- 2:25Speaker 1: of a Jolly Good Christmas, did sign a multi picture
- 2:27Speaker 1: deal with Hallmark. That's very good news to me. Also,
- 2:30Speaker 1: Hallmark has a new edition of their Countdown to Christmas
- 2:33Speaker 1: Celebrate the Magic Book. It is currently twenty seven dollars
- 2:35Speaker 1: on Amazon and I own the original, but the new
- 2:38Speaker 1: one features even more festive recipes, decorating and wrapping tips,
- 2:42Speaker 1: star photos, and memories. It's just a fun book for
- 2:46Speaker 1: the Hallmark Christmas movie fan to own. Did they sell
- 2:49Speaker 1: that in stores, like in Hallmark stores? Oh, I'm sure
- 2:52Speaker 1: they do. And I think they sell it in like
- 2:53Speaker 1: a Barnes and Noble, but Hallmarks stores. We were in
- 2:57Speaker 1: them all over the weekend, and like their front display
- 2:59Speaker 1: is like they have like down to Christmas merch like
- 3:02Speaker 1: t shirts, oh and sucks. So I'm certain you can
- 3:06Speaker 1: find the book in a Hallmark store.
- 3:07Speaker 2: I did have a feeling like over the weekend, I
- 3:11Speaker 2: was like, I'm going to go check out my local
- 3:13Speaker 2: Hallmark store. They're franchises, right, franchises.
- 3:18Speaker 1: You'll say, like Amy's Hallmark.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I just wanted to see like what they had.
- 3:22Speaker 2: I mean, I do like a Hallmark ornament. So, and
- 3:26Speaker 2: their wrapping paper is really good. It's just too expensive.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Sorry. Oh yeah, go to Home Goods for yourrapping paper.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Yeah totally.
- 3:32Speaker 2: What else? What else do you have? Well?
- 3:33Speaker 1: I would like to ask you. Between the Hallmark Channel
- 3:35Speaker 1: and Hallmark Movies and Mysteries, there were four Countdown to
- 3:38Speaker 1: Christmas and Miracles of Christmas releases this weekend. Yes, how
- 3:43Speaker 1: many did you watch?
- 3:44Speaker 2: As of today? I've watched two and a half movies? Okay,
- 3:48Speaker 2: So I watched the Friday Night A Cozy Christmas in
- 3:51Speaker 2: with Jodie Sweeten.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Huh.
- 3:52Speaker 2: I watched Jolly Good Christmas, and then I watched half
- 3:56Speaker 2: of Christmas Bedtime Stories. I think it was called I'm
- 3:59Speaker 2: just not through it. I really want to watch the
- 4:02Speaker 2: Sunday Night movie though.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Yes, Ghosts of Christmas always, Ghost.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Of Christmas always with Ian Harding. Who was in Pretty
- 4:09Speaker 2: Little Lies?
- 4:11Speaker 1: No, Reginald Bell Johns.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Wait, hold on, it's not pretty Little Liars. That's what
- 4:17Speaker 2: it's called. I get like pretty little lies and big
- 4:19Speaker 2: little lies.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Like uh uh huh, you know what I mean?
- 4:22Speaker 2: Sure, anyway, he was in that show, but who else
- 4:25Speaker 2: is on that?
- 4:25Speaker 1: Reginald Bell Johnson Carl Winslow from Family Matters.
- 4:29Speaker 2: That is such a throwback it is.
- 4:31Speaker 1: It made me really happy to see him on my screen. Actually,
- 4:34Speaker 1: I think the previous to that movie look fantastic. The
- 4:36Speaker 1: early reviews are great. That aired. It's currently Monday as
- 4:41Speaker 1: a recording this so I've also watched two movies the
- 4:44Speaker 1: same as you, A Cozy Christmas In and A Jolly
- 4:46Speaker 1: Good Christmas. But I will definitely be watching Ghosts of
- 4:50Speaker 1: Christmas always this week.
- 4:52Speaker 2: This week, let me tell you this is a new
- 4:55Speaker 2: phenomenon that's happening for me. Turning on a homework movie
- 5:00Speaker 2: as I work is a new thing. Okay, like you know,
- 5:03Speaker 2: like the background noise or whatever. So I've been turning
- 5:06Speaker 2: on like because if you look on which I love
- 5:10Speaker 2: the friendly app shout out. They re shared something of
- 5:14Speaker 2: ours on on Instagram over the weekend. But there's so
- 5:19Speaker 2: many like good movies from like previous last year and
- 5:21Speaker 2: the year before that I've seen, so like I just
- 5:24Speaker 2: love to like throw them on as I'm like working
- 5:27Speaker 2: on my computer or doing something around the house or whatever,
- 5:29Speaker 2: and like that's never happened before us what us. I know,
- 5:35Speaker 2: my husband made some joke too, He's like, what do
- 5:38Speaker 2: you watch in another Hallmark movie, which was like would
- 5:40Speaker 2: have never come out of his mouth in previous years.
- 5:43Speaker 2: So they make me kind of feel good. And I
- 5:47Speaker 2: will tell you it's kind of made me look forward
- 5:50Speaker 2: to Christmas a little bit, which you know, you're.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Discovering the magic that we've all known all.
- 5:57Speaker 2: I know, But this Weekends movie, I don't know.
- 6:00Speaker 1: I agree, I agree, I would like to say about
- 6:02Speaker 1: a cozy Christmas in let me tell you I'm in
- 6:04Speaker 1: with the absolute wrong mindset. Everyone was like, this is
- 6:07Speaker 1: a sequel to Christmas under Wraps. So in my mind,
- 6:10Speaker 1: sequel meant these are the same characters. And in my mind,
- 6:14Speaker 1: Jody Sweeten was playing the Candace Cameron Berat character. Now,
- 6:17Speaker 1: there are so many signs from the very beginning that
- 6:19Speaker 1: that is not the case. Candace Cameron Beret played a doctor.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Jody Sweeten is playing a real estate developer. But my
- 6:25Speaker 1: brain could not accept those facts. I don't know what
- 6:30Speaker 1: was wrong. I've seen that movie. My husband seen that movie,
- 6:33Speaker 1: and the whole time we're going, shouldn't she know these people?
- 6:35Speaker 1: Shouldn't she what is happening here? I figured it out
- 6:42Speaker 1: very late. One hundred percent of my faul. This is
- 6:44Speaker 1: not Hallmarks faut. This was like a I my brain
- 6:46Speaker 1: would not let go of what was in front of it.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Jody Sweeton played a different character, Yeah, an ex girlfriend
- 6:53Speaker 1: of she dated him before, right he met CCB.
- 6:59Speaker 2: I am CCB went to go do a different hospital
- 7:04Speaker 2: work doctor thing.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Right. Apparently she left Garland after she decided to stay
- 7:07Speaker 1: in Garland, just like she left Hellmark. So I almost
- 7:12Speaker 1: feel like I need to go back. And Rewatch won't
- 7:14Speaker 1: because I didn't think it was that great, But I
- 7:17Speaker 1: think I would maybe enjoy it a little bit better
- 7:19Speaker 1: if the whole time I wasn't going what's happening? What
- 7:21Speaker 1: is happening here?
- 7:22Speaker 2: But I have a queer question. The original movie was
- 7:25Speaker 2: called Christmas under Wraps.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Yeah, is that the movie.
- 7:29Speaker 2: That I just mentioned to you earlier that had like
- 7:31Speaker 2: record breaking views? What was so good about it?
- 7:34Speaker 1: It's not that great?
- 7:36Speaker 2: Oh, so I wonder if I did so well?
- 7:38Speaker 1: Classic people really like it. I don't think. I mean,
- 7:43Speaker 1: it's Candace Cameron Beret, and I will admit I find
- 7:46Speaker 1: that she has some charm in these movies. Last year's
- 7:49Speaker 1: movie was not great, but I've liked her a lot
- 7:52Speaker 1: in previous Hallmark movies, Like, I'm not her biggest personal fan, right,
- 7:58Speaker 1: I think she's good in it. It's a sweet Hallmark movie,
- 8:04Speaker 1: the whole idea. I mean, we kind of got it
- 8:07Speaker 1: from Cozy Christmas Soon. His dad is Santa Claus. That's
- 8:10Speaker 1: developed much better in Christmas under Wraps than it is
- 8:13Speaker 1: in this movie.
- 8:14Speaker 2: But I don't.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Know what the specifics are in it that make it
- 8:23Speaker 1: such a fan favorite.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Okay, another question. Were they in Garland in the original movie?
- 8:28Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah, yeah, that's Garland for you.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Is the match line?
- 8:32Speaker 1: Were?
- 8:33Speaker 2: Did these same actors play the same characters?
- 8:36Speaker 1: Now you're asking too many questions? The guy was in it?
- 8:39Speaker 2: Hattie the diner owner? Was she in it?
- 8:42Speaker 1: So?
- 8:43Speaker 2: Oh? Okay?
- 8:44Speaker 1: His dad is the same character, although very clearly his
- 8:47Speaker 1: dad was not in the same location as they're filming.
- 8:49Speaker 1: Is because all of their interaction takes place via FaceTime.
- 8:52Speaker 2: FaceTime.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Yeah, so we're not arguing that movie. If you loved
- 8:57Speaker 1: Christmas Underraps, please hop into our Facebook group and let
- 8:59Speaker 1: us know what about that movie that you love so much.
- 9:01Speaker 2: I want to know if anybody liked a Cozy Christmas
- 9:04Speaker 2: Stand because I didn't really like it.
- 9:06Speaker 1: And I loved Jodie Sweeten. I thought Jody was great
- 9:10Speaker 1: in it, but I didn't love the movie.
- 9:13Speaker 2: She was an executive producer too. And I have a
- 9:16Speaker 2: funny digit see that, just real quick. Her best friend
- 9:20Speaker 2: who is the cheffer whatever his name is, Stephanie Yeah.
- 9:23Speaker 2: The restaurants called Stephanie's yeah and She's. I just thought
- 9:26Speaker 2: it was funny. I was like, I wonder if that
- 9:28Speaker 2: was yeah. I bumped on that too. Anyway, I was
- 9:31Speaker 2: kind of disappointed in that movie.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Mm hmm.
- 9:34Speaker 2: But I like Jodie Sweeten and I want more Jodie
- 9:35Speaker 2: Sweeten movies.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Well, I think the theme of this weekend is do
- 9:40Speaker 1: not trust your first impression of Hallmark movies, because, as
- 9:44Speaker 1: we learned last week with Noel next Door, our first
- 9:47Speaker 1: impression based on the synopsis of that movie, perhaps the
- 9:52Speaker 1: actor staring in that movie and the promotion that Hallmark
- 9:55Speaker 1: was doing was not great. And we loved it. I
- 9:59Speaker 1: was very much looking forward to a cozy Christmas in
- 10:02Speaker 1: and it didn't deliver on the level that I wanted
- 10:04Speaker 1: it too. And we'll see what we have to say
- 10:07Speaker 1: about a jolly good Christmas in regards to that. Agree.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Let's start with a synopsis.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Sure. When by the book, architect David hires free spirited
- 10:16Speaker 2: personal shopper Angie, he finds himself on a wild ride
- 10:19Speaker 2: across London in search of the perfect Christmas gift, but
- 10:22Speaker 2: finds something he wasn't looking for. Starring Will Kemp and
- 10:27Speaker 2: Rush Machety, This.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Was filmed on location in London in February twenty two
- 10:33Speaker 1: and I feel like this was the first movie we
- 10:34Speaker 1: started to get countdown to Christmas promotion for because it
- 10:37Speaker 1: filmed so early.
- 10:39Speaker 2: I feel like it was the first like announced movie right, and.
- 10:44Speaker 1: It was early. They were like, we got this countdown
- 10:46Speaker 1: to Christmas movie in production, and we were both very
- 10:49Speaker 1: excited about it because we love Will Camp specifically from
- 10:52Speaker 1: a Christmas Waltz. So I was excited for a London
- 10:56Speaker 1: set movie. I was excited for a Willkemp movie.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Some interesting news and notes from this movie too, Yeah.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Jonathan Wright and directed it. He has twenty directing credits
- 11:08Speaker 2: on IMDb, including the upcoming The Royal Nanny and last
- 11:13Speaker 2: year's Christmas Ceo, which I know we did not review
- 11:16Speaker 2: because we were like, eh, I don't want to watch
- 11:19Speaker 2: a Christmas toy Ceo movie.
- 11:22Speaker 1: There's Marcel Nichols.
- 11:25Speaker 2: No, you like her, so you better set that up
- 11:27Speaker 2: on your friendly app and go overturns. It is the
- 11:29Speaker 2: picture like someone on a phone.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, see I knew she's on that cell phone.
- 11:34Speaker 1: He's on a toy phone.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Oh god no, boy boy boy boy.
- 11:38Speaker 1: But no, we did not watch it, okay.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Yeah. And the Royal Nanny is that's the one I
- 11:43Speaker 2: don't want to watch, right?
- 11:44Speaker 1: Oh? Is that the five Agent?
- 11:46Speaker 2: I think so, And I think our Facebook group voted
- 11:49Speaker 2: that we watch that one.
- 11:51Speaker 1: Oh no, because they hate you.
- 11:53Speaker 2: They hate me, they hate me. Guys.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Yeah, this is I five Agent goes under. No no, no, no, no,
- 11:58Speaker 1: no nout no. Perhaps it will surprise us.
- 12:01Speaker 2: I know, I know, I know, so I really quickly.
- 12:04Speaker 1: I wanted to say this. As I was watching this movie,
- 12:07Speaker 1: I had feelings about the fact that we were going
- 12:09Speaker 1: to be reviewing it mm hmm, and I started to
- 12:12Speaker 1: wish that maybe because the Hallmark group did vote on
- 12:16Speaker 1: this movie for us, we did not choose this movie.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Although I think this may have been what we chose.
- 12:21Speaker 1: There was this was a pretty good weekend in terms
- 12:24Speaker 1: of anticipation. Yes, I started to wish they had chosen
- 12:27Speaker 1: something different. And then I thought, do I always want
- 12:30Speaker 1: to be reviewing a movie that we loved? Fair?
- 12:33Speaker 2: Fair point? I don't want to come on here and
- 12:36Speaker 2: like trash movie though, so because you know, people put
- 12:41Speaker 2: a lot of hard work into it. There's a lot
- 12:42Speaker 2: of money spent, like and some people probably really liked
- 12:45Speaker 2: this movie. So I don't want to be like the
- 12:46Speaker 2: naysayer who's like, I didn't like it, right, So, yes,
- 12:51Speaker 2: I think it's fair. If we want to be a reviewer,
- 12:55Speaker 2: we should watch a whole slew of things, Yes, even
- 13:01Speaker 2: the ones maybe we don't want to watch.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Because nobody wants to hear us say I loved every
- 13:04Speaker 1: single movie.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Yeah, that's boring.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Okay. This movie was written by Ron Oliver, who has
- 13:11Speaker 1: thirty writing credits eighty three directing credits. He both wrote
- 13:14Speaker 1: and directed A Timeless Christmas and Christmas at the Plaza, which,
- 13:17Speaker 1: as I mentioned to Wendy, neither of those are favorites
- 13:19Speaker 1: of mine, and Wendy pointed.
- 13:21Speaker 2: Out what they both star Ryan Pavie, And maybe that's
- 13:25Speaker 2: the I just don't think you like Ryan Pavie.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Well I do after this summer.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Yeah, with Ashley Williams that two tickets of Paradise. He
- 13:35Speaker 2: was really funny in that because he was like loosened
- 13:37Speaker 2: up and a little chill and like whatever. I don't
- 13:40Speaker 2: like when he's all buttoned up and like so serious.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Yes, you know.
- 13:46Speaker 2: I recall A Timeless Christmas was one of the first
- 13:49Speaker 2: movies we reviewed for in twenty twenty, and I was like,
- 13:53Speaker 2: I don't want to watch a time travel Christmas movie.
- 13:55Speaker 2: Like I thought it was not great. I have a
- 13:59Speaker 2: soft spot for Ryan Pea, I.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Know you do. I didn't mind the time travel aspect.
- 14:03Speaker 1: I just thought overall that love them a great movie.
- 14:05Speaker 1: But Ron Oliver also wrote Falling for Christmas. Sorry, I'm
- 14:11Speaker 1: Lindsay Lowe.
- 14:12Speaker 2: It comes out November twentieth on Netflix. Yeah. Netflix, This
- 14:16Speaker 2: is like her return to movies.
- 14:18Speaker 1: I think it's been hotly anticipated. I hope it delivers
- 14:21Speaker 1: for her.
- 14:22Speaker 2: I hope it is too. I will definitely watch it.
- 14:25Speaker 2: I like Lindsay Lohana as an actress.
- 14:28Speaker 1: I love Parent Drap Parent Trap is a great movie. Me.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Girls is one of my favorite movies of all time. Anyway,
- 14:34Speaker 2: I'm I'm excited for her.
- 14:35Speaker 1: I I like to.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Root for the underdog. Yeah, you know, so, I hope,
- 14:40Speaker 2: I hope I hope it's a decent movie, as do I.
- 14:43Speaker 1: We've been all things will camp, but I do want
- 14:45Speaker 1: to call it. This movie co star rash Machete, who
- 14:48Speaker 1: I adore, and she was in over one hundred episodes
- 14:52Speaker 1: of the show Royal Pains, which is the show I've
- 14:53Speaker 1: mentioned many times, was that with Megan Markle. No, no, no,
- 14:57Speaker 1: that suits Royal Pains starred Brooke do or say. She
- 15:02Speaker 1: played one of the love interests in that show.
- 15:04Speaker 2: There's like two dudes, right, There's two dudes that are
- 15:06Speaker 2: like the leads in that and they're what, well, what's
- 15:10Speaker 2: the story with them?
- 15:11Speaker 1: One's a doctor, okay, and I forget how he ends up.
- 15:14Speaker 1: He's like in the Hamptons or something, and I don't
- 15:16Speaker 1: remember how he ends up there. I think he'd like
- 15:18Speaker 1: broken up with a girlfriend. He's like big city doctor
- 15:20Speaker 1: somehow ends up in the Hampton's and now he's like
- 15:22Speaker 1: a boutique on call doctor. And there's this other side
- 15:25Speaker 1: story that he kind of like works for lives on
- 15:28Speaker 1: the grounds of this like super duper wealthy dude who
- 15:30Speaker 1: also has like kind of like a nefarious backstory. And
- 15:33Speaker 1: then he has his brother who is like business dude,
- 15:38Speaker 1: but also kind of a dufist, but like comes into
- 15:40Speaker 1: his own So you've got like business dude brother trying
- 15:43Speaker 1: to build up the business. And then Rash Machet. He
- 15:45Speaker 1: plays a PA physician's assistant who works with the doctor dude,
- 15:50Speaker 1: and she has her own storyline and there's like some
- 15:52Speaker 1: parental conflict because she's in a relationship that she doesn't
- 15:55Speaker 1: want to be in what her parents want her to be.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Oh interesting, and the brother is in a relationship with Brooke.
- 16:01Speaker 2: Doors says, what I like this show? I mean you
- 16:04Speaker 2: you might Is it like real PG thirteen?
- 16:07Speaker 1: Yeah, it's on USA.
- 16:10Speaker 2: Oh maybe not though, but we loved it.
- 16:13Speaker 1: I mean I loved it. And like every week you
- 16:15Speaker 1: get this new cast of like ridiculous characters with their
- 16:19Speaker 1: health woes that he's helping out. Oh some of them
- 16:21Speaker 1: are like, you know, kind of high stakes.
- 16:23Speaker 2: I see.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Okay, we look. I watched every episode. Okay, I enjoyed it,
- 16:28Speaker 1: all right, And I loved her.
- 16:30Speaker 2: Speaking of will Camp, like I was trying to remember,
- 16:33Speaker 2: like do I know him outside of a Christmas Waltz?
- 16:36Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 16:36Speaker 2: And I don't think I do know at all, So
- 16:40Speaker 2: I don't know why I'm like so hyped on Will
- 16:43Speaker 2: Camp and like this recent signing of him with an
- 16:47Speaker 2: exclusive homework contract and all this other stuff. So I
- 16:50Speaker 2: was digging in and I he was once called the
- 16:54Speaker 2: James Dean of ballet. Oh you know, because he does
- 16:57Speaker 2: have a dance background. Right. Two he did a gap
- 17:01Speaker 2: campaign like commercial that I that I looked up. I
- 17:04Speaker 2: am going to drop the link to this. It's on
- 17:07Speaker 2: YouTube in our Facebook group and it's just him dancing
- 17:11Speaker 2: around and a pair of Gap jeans and then like
- 17:13Speaker 2: it says at the end like something sexy like Gap
- 17:16Speaker 2: for every I don't know something or other generation. That's
- 17:19Speaker 2: what it was. I was like, not American, because he's
- 17:21Speaker 2: not American anyway, looks good, looks good in that. And
- 17:25Speaker 2: then finally he was in a movie called Step It Up. Two.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Do you remember the original Step It Up with Channing Tatum?
- 17:32Speaker 1: Sure?
- 17:33Speaker 2: Sure, Well this is a sequel his ex wife. Yeah,
- 17:38Speaker 2: that's where they met. Yeah, so there's a sequel to
- 17:40Speaker 2: this movie that she's not in. I think Channing Tatum
- 17:46Speaker 2: is in it, maybe just a little bit. Will Campus
- 17:49Speaker 2: also in that movie he's a dance teacher. So anyway,
- 17:52Speaker 2: I think I might watch.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I love movies like that I like dance movies. Look,
- 17:58Speaker 1: one of my all time favorite movies. My brain is
- 18:03Speaker 1: reaching for the title of it. This is a terrible movie.
- 18:06Speaker 2: We just talked about this terrible dance.
- 18:09Speaker 1: It's heard the dancing is terrible. The whole thing is like.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Kerry Washington is in that movie. Yes, she plays the sister.
- 18:16Speaker 1: Save the Last Dance.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Yea, save the Last Dance.
- 18:19Speaker 1: I've seen the movie over and over again. All I'm
- 18:20Speaker 1: saying is I like a dance movie and it doesn't
- 18:22Speaker 1: even have to be good. Yeah, me too. So I
- 18:24Speaker 1: would totally watch Step Up two.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Me too.
- 18:27Speaker 1: Let's do our first impression.
- 18:30Speaker 2: You can go first.
- 18:31Speaker 1: I'll never forgive Hollmark for this Mark missed, oh.
- 18:38Speaker 2: Ouch, shots fired? Mine is why was Wilcamp an American?
- 18:43Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 18:44Speaker 2: Why? Why?
- 18:46Speaker 1: Why?
- 18:47Speaker 2: It makes some zero sense to me?
- 18:48Speaker 1: I have like an all caps typed out like in
- 18:52Speaker 1: a minute.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Okay, all right, so let's talk about what we did, Like, Okay,
- 18:57Speaker 2: do you have anything? I have very few? Okay. I
- 19:00Speaker 2: feel so bad saying this because I this was highly anticipated.
- 19:04Speaker 2: I was very much looking forward to this movie.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Okay.
- 19:07Speaker 2: I watched it in real time on Saturday night with
- 19:11Speaker 2: a bucket of popcorn. Yeah, so I thought it was
- 19:14Speaker 2: very pretty to look at.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Uh huh, like London.
- 19:17Speaker 2: At Christmas time? Didn't know what looked like that? Like
- 19:19Speaker 2: are there lights and her? It was gorgeous? Yeah, so pretty.
- 19:24Speaker 2: But I asked you this morning. I was like, when
- 19:27Speaker 2: was this filmed? Who was filmed in February?
- 19:30Speaker 1: Right?
- 19:31Speaker 2: So all that stuff was just b roll.
- 19:33Speaker 1: I mean the lights were b roll, but all of
- 19:35Speaker 1: their like walking along the tyms.
- 19:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean fine, whatever, Like I appreciate that when
- 19:42Speaker 2: there's like you can see a coldness, it looks real
- 19:45Speaker 2: or whatever. But I mean it was very pretty. I
- 19:48Speaker 2: was like, oh, do I ever want to go to
- 19:50Speaker 2: London at Christmas time? Because gosh, it's so stunning.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Mm hmm, I think you do. I have a hot
- 19:57Speaker 1: take about this movie. Okay, I think this is, in
- 20:00Speaker 1: fact a good movie with a major flaw that ruins it.
- 20:06Speaker 2: Do tell.
- 20:07Speaker 1: I don't want to say too much because I really
- 20:11Speaker 1: want to have this wished moment in our next segment. Okay,
- 20:14Speaker 1: but I think that there is something so glaring and
- 20:19Speaker 1: so distracting that we've touched on that ruins this movie.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Because here's what I think, as you said, the visuals
- 20:25Speaker 1: in this movie I think are one of its more
- 20:27Speaker 1: redeeming qualities. The London setting is beautiful. Rashmuchet's wardrobe is beautiful.
- 20:34Speaker 1: I loved Callum's home and his kitchen. That set was beautiful.
- 20:39Speaker 1: I loved Callum and his husband as characters in these movies.
- 20:43Speaker 1: I loved Simon, his villain boss in this movie. I
- 20:48Speaker 1: thought his uptight girlfriend and her uptight mother were played
- 20:51Speaker 1: to perfection. I think there's a lot of notes that
- 20:56Speaker 1: hit in this movie, and I still could not get
- 21:00Speaker 1: past the thing that I hated about it.
- 21:03Speaker 2: Okay, we'll get there, we will, we'll get there. I
- 21:06Speaker 2: enjoyed Rashmachete, Like I said, I don't. I'm not familiar
- 21:10Speaker 2: with her at all. You're making a face, Am I
- 21:11Speaker 2: saying her name wrong?
- 21:12Speaker 1: No?
- 21:13Speaker 2: All right? I enjoyed her. And what I really liked
- 21:15Speaker 2: in this movie is her relationship with her sister and
- 21:19Speaker 2: her family, like her mom and dad. I thought her
- 21:21Speaker 2: mom was actually quite funny. Hm.
- 21:23Speaker 1: But that's it.
- 21:25Speaker 2: That's it. Okay, do you have anything else you liked?
- 21:27Speaker 1: I no, Oh, okay, here's what I wished for. Okay,
- 21:32Speaker 1: this is typed in my notes in all caps. Okay,
- 21:35Speaker 1: if you are going to cast Will Kemp and Rashmachete
- 21:38Speaker 1: in a movie alongside each other, let them both be British.
- 21:41Speaker 1: There is no good reason that this dude needed to
- 21:45Speaker 1: be a generic American other than script rewrite laziness.
- 21:49Speaker 2: Mmmm yeah, perhaps so.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Now that's not a wish, that's just an angry statement.
- 21:54Speaker 1: Here's my actual wish. Okay, I wish that I could
- 21:58Speaker 1: see the timeline of the creation of this movie, because,
- 22:01Speaker 1: as I imagine it, it is we acquire this script,
- 22:05Speaker 1: we cast the movie. Oh, we'd love to have Will
- 22:09Speaker 1: Kemp and rash Machete work together. Oh, our script features
- 22:13Speaker 1: an American. That'd be a real shame to cast this
- 22:15Speaker 1: beautiful British man in this position where he's gonna have
- 22:19Speaker 1: to flatten out his accent to give it a real
- 22:21Speaker 1: generic American frat rot quality. What we should do at
- 22:26Speaker 1: this point is invest a tiny bit of our budget
- 22:30Speaker 1: into rewriting those very few references to him being an American.
- 22:35Speaker 2: It's not even relevant, but it story.
- 22:37Speaker 1: Isn't necessary, And if they needed to have him as
- 22:40Speaker 1: this like fish out of water in London, they could
- 22:44Speaker 1: have very easily kept the My parents traveled a lot.
- 22:47Speaker 1: I moved to the States as a teenager. I've lived there,
- 22:50Speaker 1: I went to college there, I've come back here for work.
- 22:53Speaker 1: Still get to have my accent, Still get to be like,
- 22:57Speaker 1: don't really remember London. I haven't lived here since I
- 22:59Speaker 1: was a kid. So yeah, I've picked up saying Merry
- 23:02Speaker 1: Christmas as an affectation. There's very little that needed to
- 23:06Speaker 1: change to make this a truly enjoyable movie. I found
- 23:10Speaker 1: Will Kemp's accent, and I am so sorry. I adore
- 23:14Speaker 1: Will Kemp. I will watch everything you're in. I'm thrilled
- 23:17Speaker 1: for your contract. It was distracting.
- 23:20Speaker 2: Oh wow.
- 23:21Speaker 1: Entire time I looked at his face, I watched the
- 23:24Speaker 1: way he formed his words. I tried to place his accent.
- 23:28Speaker 1: I couldn't tell if he was trying to sound like
- 23:31Speaker 1: a jerk or if that was just like the this
- 23:34Speaker 1: is how I learned to speak American.
- 23:35Speaker 2: Uh huh, it's frustrated. Oh wow, I agree. I agree.
- 23:42Speaker 2: I did watch his mouth many times too. Thank god
- 23:47Speaker 2: I watched it on that big screen TV because I
- 23:49Speaker 2: did try to watch his mouth many many times too,
- 23:52Speaker 2: because I was like it, it just was weird. It
- 23:56Speaker 2: was weird. I totally agree. I have the same note
- 24:00Speaker 2: here camp as an American. Was it even necessary for
- 24:04Speaker 2: the story? Zero? It wasn't.
- 24:06Speaker 1: It wasn't. It wasn't.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Okay, here's something I wished for. I hated that David
- 24:11Speaker 2: had a girlfriend the entire time he's calling for Angie. Yeah,
- 24:14Speaker 2: And that's like such a big pet peeve of mine
- 24:17Speaker 2: in these movies. And I just feel like, I get
- 24:21Speaker 2: that it's part of the story. Like he's got this
- 24:23Speaker 2: girlfriend that he's like not totally into, but he's got
- 24:25Speaker 2: to buy this gift and he can't find the perfect
- 24:27Speaker 2: gift for her because he doesn't really like hers. You know, Yes,
- 24:29Speaker 2: I get it, I get it. I get that that's
- 24:31Speaker 2: the through line. But the fact that he's now falling
- 24:34Speaker 2: for like this other woman, and I felt very unfair
- 24:37Speaker 2: to the uptight girlfriend who obviously was not a match
- 24:40Speaker 2: for him. It's fine, but it was unfair to her,
- 24:43Speaker 2: like to keep running into him and he's with Angie,
- 24:46Speaker 2: Like it just was like why.
- 24:49Speaker 1: And he wasn't with Angie innocently because we know he
- 24:53Speaker 1: was developing an these feelings because they have their Christmas kiss, right,
- 24:57Speaker 1: I don't like that either, And they try and excuse
- 25:02Speaker 1: it because he and Charlotte have their moment where they're like, yeah,
- 25:05Speaker 1: we're just not a match, so that excuses all of this,
- 25:08Speaker 1: but it doesn't for me excuse it. And I always
- 25:12Speaker 1: wish in these situations that there's like a six months
- 25:16Speaker 1: later moment, because it feels unfair to break up with
- 25:19Speaker 1: one person one day and the next day you're kissing
- 25:22Speaker 1: the person you've been following.
- 25:23Speaker 2: I mean, I think it happens.
- 25:24Speaker 1: Of course it does happen, but I don't have to
- 25:26Speaker 1: like it, and it makes it so much harder for
- 25:29Speaker 1: me to root for these two who I did root for.
- 25:31Speaker 1: I did feel like we watched their chemistry develop from
- 25:35Speaker 1: their angry meeting in the bus to falling for each
- 25:40Speaker 1: other in her parents' restaurant. But I don't want to
- 25:45Speaker 1: be the Charlotte in this situation where this guy that
- 25:50Speaker 1: I've been dating, regardless of the fact that we realize
- 25:53Speaker 1: we want for each other, I don't want him having
- 25:56Speaker 1: developed feelings and now he's into a new relationship the
- 25:59Speaker 1: day after we broke up. Yeah, that doesn't feel good
- 26:01Speaker 1: to me.
- 26:02Speaker 2: No, I agree. I agree.
- 26:03Speaker 1: Justice for Charlotte, I agree. I thought he should have
- 26:06Speaker 1: just broken off like I just but it was all
- 26:10Speaker 1: like tangled up because he.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Worked for her dad. This just felt like a Hallmark
- 26:15Speaker 2: movie that I did not want to like, Like it
- 26:18Speaker 2: felt like a movie from a couple of years ago,
- 26:22Speaker 2: like a script from a couple of years ago. That
- 26:25Speaker 2: didn't feel as like I'm saying this lightly progressive.
- 26:28Speaker 1: I was just thinking that exactly as last week's movies.
- 26:32Speaker 1: Uh huh So anyway, well, and it's funny that you
- 26:34Speaker 1: say that, because someone made a comment in our Facebook
- 26:36Speaker 1: group about a Cozy Christmas in essentially saying the same thing.
- 26:40Speaker 1: This felt like old Hallmark where spoiler alert fast forward
- 26:44Speaker 1: if you don't want to know what happens at the
- 26:45Speaker 1: end of Cozy Christmas in but Jody gives up her
- 26:47Speaker 1: career to move to this small town and eventually be
- 26:50Speaker 1: the future miss his clause and maybe help him promote
- 26:53Speaker 1: this in that. Of course, it doesn't do well because
- 26:55Speaker 1: you're too much two hours from the nearest airport, and
- 26:58Speaker 1: there's nothing to do, not even a coffee shop. So
- 27:03Speaker 1: I think maybe this weekend struggles a little bit. Yeah,
- 27:07Speaker 1: did you wish for anything else? No? Are you ready
- 27:10Speaker 1: for digit see that? Yeah?
- 27:11Speaker 2: I don't have anything, but I know you have something different.
- 27:15Speaker 2: So I'm excited. So I have two actual did.
- 27:18Speaker 1: You see that? Kind of and then I have a
- 27:21Speaker 1: different direction to go here. The first one is who
- 27:23Speaker 1: leaves voicemails anymore? Charlotte would be angrily texting him.
- 27:27Speaker 2: She called so many times on laf voicemails.
- 27:28Speaker 1: Right, they could call me David. We need to talk
- 27:30Speaker 1: to text him, text him. I'm doing the texting motions
- 27:33Speaker 1: of my hand. Nobody would be leaving that many voice mails.
- 27:36Speaker 1: I don't listen to voicemails on my phone. Don't leave
- 27:37Speaker 1: me one.
- 27:38Speaker 2: I don't have a voicemail because the person can see
- 27:40Speaker 2: that you called.
- 27:41Speaker 1: Yes. Yeah, it's like a progressive auto insurance come yes. Yes.
- 27:44Speaker 1: My second is I refuse to believe that Rashma Schetty's
- 27:49Speaker 1: Twitter is in fact Reshma s nine one three zero
- 27:52Speaker 1: sixty six sixty four. Hallmark has tagged hers Reshma s
- 27:57Speaker 1: nine month threes zero six six sixty four. Ma'am, we
- 28:00Speaker 1: can be more creative than this, about.
- 28:02Speaker 2: The real reshmachete or something like I'm being what are
- 28:06Speaker 2: all those numbers mean to her?
- 28:07Speaker 1: I wonder that's a good question. Okay, I watched this
- 28:10Speaker 1: movie with my husband, and I have some husband commentary
- 28:12Speaker 1: to throw at you that I.
- 28:13Speaker 2: Will let me hear.
- 28:14Speaker 1: First of all, I was kind of mean, and I
- 28:17Speaker 1: was like, she has an MBA and she's a personal shopper.
- 28:20Speaker 1: I was snobby. And he goes, she's an entrepreneur. Love.
- 28:25Speaker 1: I was like, okay, all right. Then he goes, these
- 28:28Speaker 1: are the slowest runners I've ever seen. No one is
- 28:31Speaker 1: playing like a champion here. Why are they.
- 28:33Speaker 2: Stopping playing like a champion?
- 28:36Speaker 1: How hard is it to find someone in a purple jacket?
- 28:38Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 28:40Speaker 1: Then they're in David's apartment. There's like a wooden sculpture
- 28:43Speaker 1: on the wall. He goes, what is that? Also there's
- 28:48Speaker 1: a zee where they were walking along the tims and
- 28:50Speaker 1: there's like a you know, cement wall next to them.
- 28:53Speaker 1: And he goes, he's that graffiti And he rewinds it
- 28:57Speaker 1: and he's like, it's in two different spots. They couldn't
- 28:59Speaker 1: edit that up. They couldn't hang some hollio. I'm never
- 29:03Speaker 1: moving to London.
- 29:05Speaker 2: Oh, because the graffiti has he been to anywhere Inland
- 29:11Speaker 2: and Orange County. It's all over the place here either.
- 29:16Speaker 2: I mean, I can tell I mean, I can understand
- 29:18Speaker 2: that graffiti in London at Christmas Time could probably be
- 29:23Speaker 2: a little bit of a downer. Yeah, it takes you
- 29:26Speaker 2: out of a moment, totally, totally.
- 29:28Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, Well it's time to rate this movie.
- 29:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:32Speaker 1: I gave it two and a half.
- 29:33Speaker 2: Oh so did I? Same thing? Oh nice, same thing,
- 29:36Speaker 2: same thing. And I and I went back and forth
- 29:38Speaker 2: a little bit like two two and a half two
- 29:41Speaker 2: two and a half. I can't quantify it, but it
- 29:44Speaker 2: just felt like a two and a half.
- 29:50Speaker 1: Next week, don't let me down, Andrew Walker is a
- 29:54Speaker 1: Maple Valley Christmas.
- 29:57Speaker 2: Let me stop you right there. I just saw a
- 30:00Speaker 2: sneak peek for that movie and it didn't look that.
- 30:04Speaker 1: Was like noel Or looked terrible.
- 30:07Speaker 2: I know, I know, I know.
- 30:09Speaker 1: We're actually doing a two for next week. We have
- 30:12Speaker 1: a magical Christmas village. Yes, stirring Ali sweet, Yes, I'm
- 30:16Speaker 1: actually pretty excited about that. I too, so we will
- 30:19Speaker 1: have two episodes next week. Thank you for listening to
- 30:21Speaker 1: Girls Gone Homewark in our new home. We mighte you
- 30:24Speaker 1: to join our Facebook group also called Girls Gone Homework, and.
- 30:27Speaker 2: To please leave a review. They matter.
- 30:30Speaker 1: We appreciate you.
- 30:31Speaker 2: Happy watching, Goodbye bye,
