So I'm not getting like deep into like actual chainmail,

I dabble in Larping and so having a skill that I could

bring to LARPS like making chain now would be really really

helpful in making me feel comfortable getting out there

So Larping is live action role play.

So it's basically like, think of like a Renfair but only a few

people and there's a storyline or I guess think of just

role-playing, but you're doing it live with like swords and

magical things you throw at each other.

I haven't done a ton of it. I've only ever cast LARP, which

is basically when you're the NPC, right?

So you go in and you have the other people who are directing

it and need like enemies and little things to do.

And like, you know, you're going to go like do this little event

with these people and you're going to get kidnapped and

things like that. So the players have something to

flesh out the world. So I haven't really ever, I

mean, I've, I've never, I really like casting LARP.

I think developing a character and dealing with that feels very

stressful for me. But showing up and being like,

Hey, tell me where to go and what to do, That's really fun.

And then you get to like be part of it and, and hang out and not

have to dig into the, the characterization and everything.

So that's my, I've only done a couple, but I do really, really

like it. And frankly, the only thing

keeping me from it is that there's not really anything

close enough to me that it's easy to get to without needing

like a dog sitter or something. Right.

I think I've seen TikTok videos. Are they called reels or shorts

or clips? I've seen videos, I've seen

short videos. I think that is what you're

talking about. And it was a guy walked up to

Unfortunately I could not find my glasses.

Spent the day looking for them. Made my work day extra long

because it took longer to look at the screen when I was at the

screen and I took frequent visits into other places to try

and find these glasses. So I haven't played today, but I

am still plotting along with the housing.

Really have done a pretty good job setting up the basic plan

and figuring out what I want to do for future expansions and

then making some gold off of that.

So everybody on my war band has at least half a million gold, if

not like several million gold, which is nice.

That was part of the goal of trying to like make some make

some gold and the housing has helped with that be enjoying

that but I just I can't put in the effort to like list every

hour. We've got friend of the show

Bega and those auction house goblins that are like healing it

with housing because anybody who has seen what it takes to make

some of these items, you know that it does require a lot.

And so, yeah, you can end up selling some of these things for

But housing is where it's at. Housing is where we're going to

There was a massive interview that that broke the Internet

into like she want to tell us what's the deal with housing?

Yeah, so the deal with housing is it's not done.

There's a lot more stuff going on.

And they, the, the developers were saying that they're kind of

at a point where, you know, there's so much excitement and

there's so many new things that it feels like they're constantly

getting new things on their plate.

So just because they're not saying this is going to come

right now doesn't mean they're not thinking of it, doesn't mean

they don't want to. It's just that they do have to

structure things, right? They have to give us things that

come at at certain times. So in January 20th we're getting

a bunch of new housing stuff with pre patch, one of which is

going to be the neighborhood wide endeavors, which I'm really

excited about. That was one thing that I always

thought would be a cool way to bring the neighborhood together,

which is basically the the the quests to get your neighborhood

stuff. That was very helpful, I'm sure.

But like these neighborhood wide things that you and your friends

can all do when you all chip in and then when you chip in, you

get cooler stuff and it scales based on how many people are in

your neighborhoods. You don't have to worry about

like, oh, nobody's doing anything.

So I never got anything makes the fun.

Hang out with your friends, do cool, fun things, enjoy

yourself. They are, but they talked a

bunch about a bunch of different things that they are working on.

So the things that are coming relatively soon, like around 12

There's going to be guaranteed items for bosses that have

levels, so they're doing a ton of extra housing.

They're talking about doing interactive objects, which is

something that in Final Fantasy they have a ton of.

And they also have big ideas that they're planning on sharing

I have been very open about the fact what I'm most excited about

is pets and I'm curious what we're all hyped about.

whenever they mentioned something, there's like 20 more

questions that pop up. So it's just like, oh,

basements. And it's like, oh, I could do

like my upside down carazan in my own home sort of thing.

So like everything they say sparks some sort of like wild

rabbit hole that I, that I go down.

But like the questions that sort of pop up or the immediate like,

Like they're talking about people owning a house in sort of

a marriage thing. And it's like, well, what

happens at the divorce, right? We're going to split that house

That's that's what I would really like because then I can

get a lot more things, even if it's not exactly what like I

It's really like the road map is huge pets also, as soon as they

figure out collision, we're getting those pets.

So that's I'm also very excited. I just want to walk into my

house and have it just be full of animals, just like an

absolute zoo. That's great.

But I think something that that I noticed, there's two things

that that that to me, they are the biggest like, hey, this is

great #1 is how invested the team is from the top, like Ian's

the top, from the top down all the way down.

Everybody is like excited about housing.

They're. They're in, they're buying in,

they're loving what the community's doing and they're

not saying no to requests. They're saying, let's see if we

can. You know, people are we did.

We saw with the floating houses. It wasn't that, no, we're going

to Nix that. It was OK, let's make this

legit. And that sort of open minded

approach to housing to really, it really makes it feel like

we're as a community building it alongside the dev team.

And the second thing is they're the way that they're subtly

solving problems before they become problems with the housing

decor drops that you mentioned that have bad luck protection.

They're personal route. So you're not rolling against

this never ending sea of pugs or guildies who want seven of the

item. You know, it's personal loot,

you get it or you don't. So they're they're already

heading off these potential issues.

I'm really, really impressed with everything that they're

doing. It's it's going to be a good

be thumbs up in my book. I I would love that for your

people who collect pets, but for me, I want like either armor,

like the armor racks that they have in there.

There are preset and there are particular items or they're

empty. I would love like to be able to

put weapons that I have claimed, like if I've got like taste of

not new. This is a little classic tale.

We're going to talk about how Classic got a shiny new back end

this week. We don't normally report on

classic here so bear with me because the reason I want to

talk about this is because I believe it has further

implications for retail down the road that I want to pitch to my

my Co hosts here and see if they are feeling those same vibes.

So Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary Edition went live

this week and I think they have like a 24 hours of maintenance

with a six hour extension, which in the great scheme of things,

if your maintenance window is 24 hours, a six hour extension is

not that bad because it's all relative.

But yeah, so it was during this, just before this maintenance,

because it was a long maintenance, it was coming out,

people were like, why are you doing this?

We've spun up Anniversary server so many times before.

And Tom Ellis, who was one of the senior game producers for

Classic, wrote a blog post breaking down why the

maintenance was going to be 24 hours and talking with some of

the back end changes that were coming with it.

And these are the kind of posts I'm here for.

And I'm not going to read the whole post.

It's it's a long post. And he starts by saying there's

no news in this post. This is just for people who are

really nerdy and bored and want to know the why.

Why are we having a 24 hour maintenance period?

And the reason is because they fundamentally changed the way

that they handle. The servers on classic servers

so they were looking for different ways different

solutions on how to spin up these new anniversary servers

without destroying all the information that people had and

trying to be as least invasive on the the players as well and

they did find a solution and they they're calling it

persistent in place. That's the name of the solution

they're using. So it doesn't mean he said

doesn't likely mean much at all to anyone, but they're they're

in full sharing mode anyway. So currently data in World of
20:34
Warcraft lives in three databases, the persistent

database, which is your characters, guilds and items,
20:39
the account database, which is account level things like
20:42
achievements. And finally the regional
20:44
database, which handles region wide things like token character
20:47
numbers on the realms list, etcetera.

On Tuesday, they copied all of our.

So normally what they would do is because you can't have two
20:56
versions of Warcraft living in the same environment.

So they were trying to find a solution to that.

And what they did on Tuesday is they completely, they took all

of the data on the account and regional database and

transitioned it to a new database called the environments

database where both of those pieces of information live.

And the persistent data is now that's where they're going to

be. They're going to be bending some
21:21
of the rules they've done for a long time with the persistent

data. So the new realms on the new
21:26
environment are using the old persistent data, which is your

characters saved, your characters, guilds and items,

and they're going to draw their information from the new
21:35
environments database. So it lets them have different
21:41
versions of World of Warcraft read and write to the same
21:44
database, which up until now was not possible.
