In the 7th month Yishmael ben Nesanyah goes to Gedaliah with 10 men and they eat a meal together during which Yishmael and the 10 men assassinate Gedaliah.
Yishmael then kills all the men who were with Gedaliah in Mitzpah as well as the Chaldeans who were there.
The next day, 80 men, who had come from Shechem, Shiloh, and Shomron to bring offerings to the Beis HaMikdash but now bore signs of mourning, arrive and Yishmael comes out to greet them crying…
