  [rock music] Hey, everybody.
• 0:19
It's Full Spectrum Cycling. [rock music] Wah, wah, wah. This is show number 301. 301, good batting average. That is a good batting average. [clicking tongue] This day and age, by cracky. Yeah.
• 0:33
You're cracking them pretty good with the 301. I just, yeah, I was trying to make the big [clicking tongue] I can't make a good [clicking tongue] thing, that noise. Whatever, I don't have a, a bat.
• 0:41
[popping] Uh, there you go. I just was, well. [popping] [laughs] Oh, the beard doesn't, the mustache- Yeah... does not allow the seal to happen. You can always do one of these. [clicks tongue] Mm.
• 0:53
[laughs] Oh yeah, you probably could whistle, like, with, like, the piece of- Pretty soon we're gonna be going [blows raspberry]... yeah, with the pieces of grass, like, [imitates whistling] the people that can do that.
• 1:01
Many sounds will be made. All these mouth breathers. Hey, it's, uh, it's this Full Spectrum show, uh, uh, the duo version. It's JK. I'm Sven. Uh, the ghost of Tony is, is still present.
• 1:17
[sniffs] [laughs] I'm not saying we've seen the- His vapors [laughs] I'm not saying we've seen the last of- No... Tony. Pretty sure that Tony, Tony will return to that spot at some point in the future.
• 1:28
However, you got us today, and that's basically what you're gonna have to deal with. Mm-hmm. Um, no, no, no, no, no. I don't even really know what to recap, because there was a lot of stuff that happened last week. Uh,
• 1:47
yeah, you know, we did some stuff. We got some stuff coming up. We'll tell you about most of that going forward here, hopefully. I did get a, uh, I think it was an email.
• 1:58
Could've been a, could've been a text message or a Messenger, or... How come everybody uses, like- Every... every...
• 2:06
So there's certain people that'll only use Messenger, certain will, people that'll only call you on the phone, certain people that will only email. It, it's like, you know what? I would just like one thing anymore. Yeah.
• 2:17
Well, no, and we're on this fucking text chain that I can't reply to because my- Oh, that's right... my phone service does not, uh, uh, the service, the RCS texting- Yeah...
• 2:30
whatever- I, I think they'll get that figured out... is disabled. I don't care. They'll get it figured. I mean, it's, it... I mean, it's- They'll get it fingered out.
• 2:36
It's a pain, uh, in communications because I don't get one person's, and I get one other person's reply. Yeah. So then I just ha- have to reply to one of them or both, or on a different text. Ah, it's...
• 2:49
[sighs] Is it- My head, my head hurts- Is it-... thinking about it... is it only, um, is it only images, or is it text? Text, yeah. Yeah. Everything. I don't know. Everything.
• 2:56
It's the difference between your, uh, your blue people and your green people, basically. True, true. Like, you guys are green people. I'm a blue person. What is this, apple juice and- [laughs]... and Android?
• 3:08
But oddly enough, apple isn't green, although apple juice probably would be. Maybe more like pee yellow. I don't know. Uh, that would- Didn't, didn't, I didn't get to hit- [clears throat]...
• 3:18
uh, well, I mean, I hit Record Store Day. Right on. And the- The-... wasn't the line around the block? The halo of it. Uh, not around the block, but definitely out the door. It was, what, 20, 30.
• 3:31
And there wasn't even a Taylor Swift, uh, release this year, was there? No, and Lilliput's a big store. I mean, you got a, there's a lot of space in there. Is it bigger than... Uh, did, has it expanded?
• 3:41
No, it's the same. This is Lilliput on, uh- Yeah, the old Xclusive company... on, right, on Farwell. And, uh, yeah, they had a line, like, [laughs] back to, uh, the DJ stage, or the stage,
• 3:53
and around, wrapped around- Huh... to, to check out. But not as far as Smith Liquor, so you could get your beer early in the morning?
• 3:59
[laughs] I didn't, yeah, I didn't get, I didn't get up ear- well, I did get up early enough, but I didn't get down there early enough, I'll say that. [smacks lip] But best of intentions.
• 4:10
Every day is Record Store Day if you know what you're doing. Right. Yeah, for sure. Did you- But I wanted a Heckel von Mons, so I didn't really- Did you make a purchase at Record Store Day? No.
• 4:19
Tony avoided it altogether. He was all proud of that. I don't know if you saw his thing, but he was like- I don't... Yeah... "I managed not to spend money by staying home from Record Store Day."
• 4:27
[laughs] I brought my Record Store Day orange record the, the week- Yeah. Oh, yeah... the week before, so I- I, yeah... I'll pl- I feel like I did my Record Store Day buying. Exactly, but...
• 4:42
Um, so anyway, uh, however, I got this from Corey. [laughs] I kind of digressed a little bit. Uh, he's the bonus checkpoint manager, and I think actually we got some clarification on the old, uh, phona- phonocity here.
• 4:57
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I think it's gonna say the same thing, at least vis-a-vis the, the bonus checkpoints. There will be 36. Okay. Sign up is through May 4th. Bonus host drawing is near the end of May.
• 5:13
So that means that if you want to be a bonus checkpoint, you still have time to do that. But here's the, here's the gist of... This came through the River West 24
• 5:25
email list, which you should be on if you're gonna do this thing. Sunday, May 4th, in-person registration over there to the Garden Park and Black Husky area, right on Locust and Bremen.
• 5:37
You must create a- and/or update your profile on riverwest24.com if you get in. We'll use this account to activate you. Like, you won't be activated at all. Right. And you'll just be like- In stasis.
• 5:49
Yeah, that would be like maybe, maybe cryofreeze or- Right... Carbonite or, I don't know. Right by, uh- You are, you are- Right by Ted Williams' head- S, S-... down in Phoenix or something like that...
• 5:58
but you're already Frozen Hans, so it totally makes sense. Uh, make sure to click the link in the verification email, set your password, pick your T-shirt size. Don't be a jerk. That's always a big one. Mm-hmm.
• 6:10
Uh, so they're gonna- In, in life... so they're gonna start handing out lottery tickets at 10:00 AM. VIP registration starts at 10:00 AM, so if you are a VIP, you don't have to get your lottery ticket.
• 6:21
Lottery starts at noon. Anything like last year, Mike will be the last guy picked at 2:00 PM. [laughs] Uh, and here's something new.
• 6:29
Uh, I don't know how many they had last year, but based on the fact that if you volunteer this year, you're guaranteed in next year, so if they get 2,000 volunteers, guess how many people are gonna be in there? Sure.
• 6:40
2,000. I don't know. But, uh, this year they're limiting to 500 teams and 1,600 total riders. VIP- Taking-... 20, 24's get guaranteed entry, but must come to Black Husky- But do the-... on the 4th...
• 6:53
do the volunteers apply to that 1,600? That is a good question to which I do not know the answer. I like having good questions. I don't know that, and that's a- Yeah... that's a question for...
• 7:04
That's a question for a top of the hill to tell you. Well, let's, let's see what we got at the top of the hill here. Oh. I, I... This is one I have never heard of, and I, I've already been sampling.
• 7:13
I've been sampling this. You've been sampling this. It's pretty decent. I... Yeah. It's a Half Acre, uh, Half Acre Brewing. Out of the Chicago, Illinois. It's there. Beer Company.
• 7:24
Half Acre Beer Company out of Chicago, Illinois, and this is the Way Bird, a Hazy IPA. Uh, it's not bad. No, it's, it's good. It's like 6 1/2. I had to look it up 'cause they don't...
• 7:34
Every- no one's putting it on the damn cans no more. Right. Um- So they just assume? Like...
• 7:38
Okay, so they- Well, I saw one that had very pretty art, and I was like, "Oh, I gotta look this up because this is gonna be a knee-capper." It's a- And it was. It was like a 8.7, and I'm just like, "Brr."
• 7:47
It's like a tattoo on the arm of some, you know, art thing on the, on the can or whatever. It's like- Mm... you gotta really kinda look for it now. Oh, no, no, no.
• 7:55
See- Somebody once said that, like, they're not required to, um- Have you, have you had a- They're not required to, to actually have it on the can anymore. Huh. All right.
• 8:04
Well, I don't know that that's a good idea or a bad idea. Anything. I think it's a good idea to have some semblance of what- Yeah... it is. Well, for my own... Yeah.
• 8:12
So having had a recent beer next door before we started the show, this is, this is good. I... It's not making me go, "Oh, I wish I was next door again [laughs]." Right, right, right, right. Having a, a,
• 8:23
whatever the one that I had was, the rodeo thing or- Oh, right... some kind of rodeo business. Goat Rodeo? Goat Rodeo maybe. Yeah. That's a good one. That, that- That, that is a good one.
• 8:32
And- I tried one of their new ones, and it's heavy. So have you had- It is a N- double E IPA. It's very cloudy. So I was down at- But this is a nice respite.
• 8:42
[laughs] I was down at the local clubbery, and, uh, this would be, I don't know, a day or two ago, a couple days ago, and there was a, an older gentleman, uh, sitting at the... at...
• 8:52
And he'd been there for a while sitting at the bar and, uh, drinking beers here kinda slowly, whatever, and kinda lolling. And then he had one of these cans of the THC beer- Ha [laughs]...
• 9:05
which they have 5, 10s, and 25s. And I don't r- this was a 25. Oh. So he kinda just falls on the floor. And I'm like, "Oh my God. Well, we better pick that guy up and see what's up." So then he...
• 9:17
we get him up, and he seemed to be coherent enough not to call anybody, you know. 'Cause actually Jen the nurse was there, so she was, like, feeling the back of his head and stuff and...
• 9:28
Oh no, that was another guy that fell off another stool at another place. [laughs] Oh, that wa- yeah, yeah. That was at our gig, right, yeah. Okay. So this is- So that's what we- Yeah, yeah, yeah...
• 9:34
you just missed, right? Right. So this is the next day, and this is another guy falling off another stool. Ah, ah. Uh, but- That's what happened this weekend, everybody... point being that- [laughs]...
• 9:43
whatever happened to him, uh, he was tired or just had a few too many beers or whatever. He had this can of this 25 milligram THC drinky drink. Yeah. Which was untouched. Oh. To which I then touched.
• 9:59
I thought you were gonna take a pic- I, I, uh- Like, this is... Take a picture of him on the ground with it next to him. Oh, I see. Being like, "Oh." That's such a missed opportunity right there. Wow, man. Look at me go.
• 10:07
That was a m- That's two... that was a missed opportunity. Occasional Mike isn't even occasional anymore. Man, just sharp shooting here. Pew, pew, pew. Yeah. Well... [laughs] All right.
• 10:18
So I, I, I was, uh, unclear on how much that might affect me, so I only s- sampled a little bit of it, but it was very tasty. Ah. I just don't trust any of that stuff to know what it's gonna do an hour after you do it.
• 10:32
Uh, yeah. Maybe. I, I've, I've l- I've become more trustworthy in the... [laughs] After having done it more often? Yeah. Oh, yeah. Essentially. Well, at first I was like, "Uh, hey, Trey." You know. I don't know.
• 10:45
And somebody will... What? Oh, how did... I, it... Okay, this is a... I've always had this problem. Like, somebody has like, "Here. Oh, here's a 10 milligram." Yummy. Yeah. Cut it in half. Yummy.
• 10:59
Cut it in half, it is five in theory. I don't believe that theory. Well. I don't. I think it just- So it could be all packed on one side? Right. Yeah. I mean, I don't know.
• 11:10
I don't know how gelatin and pectin and things of that nature work. I don't either. You know. I, I... It just always... I, I, I, I get the logic of it. I just don't think it applies, I, to- It may not. No.
• 11:22
It's like, there's a reason that, uh, that son of a bitch is 10 m- 10. It's going in there. Do it all at once. Yeah. But I remember [laughs]... I can remember somebody, somebody... I was like hemming and hawing.
• 11:34
I'm like, "I don't know. I don't know. I..." And, uh, uh, someone [laughs] was like, "Hey, listen, man. I took one about an hour ago, and I'm fine." Ah. And I, I kinda know how you... You know, everything is, you know...
• 11:46
I'm not going off the walls, so you won't go off the walls either. Not yet. And I'm like, "Oh, all right." Not yet anyway. You know how to speak to the... you know. [laughs] The calm ones. Right on. Uh- Anxieties. Yes.
• 11:58
Certainly. So that, that covers that whole, uh- That covers that whole Riverwest 24 thing, I think. Uh, so did- 36... so did you go by the lakefront?
• 12:08
I know you went to Swinging Door, which I was so tempted to go down to- [laughs]... today, but didn't. It was a- It's coming. It's coming... it was a complete pit stop because the, uh... Excuse me.
• 12:18
It's kinda, it is kinda- Little burpy... little burpy there, that beer... little burpy. Um, the, uh, parking meter was non-operational, but also took a dollar of my quarters. Down- But didn't register any of the time.
• 12:32
Oh, downtown? Yeah. Oh. And I was like, "Fuck, mm." I'm like, "It's good parking. I'm, okay, I'm just going in, getting the dog and a soda and..." Making, making tracks back to- Yeah... the old shack. Yeah. Yeah. And
• 12:45
yes, made it up, up. Got to sign in, first one to sign in of the day. Mm-hmm. Oh, I, I still don't do that. That's something I probably oughta get on that plan. Yeah. I mean, it's like a, just a $1 check-in.
• 12:56
It's like- Did, did he-... it's like playing the shake of the day- Yeah... you, you just keep- And they have that as well. I just don't do that either. Just, I- I, I minimize my gamblins. Yeah. Good call.
• 13:04
But on the way there, I did see, I saw a little topless review down by the- Yeah. Uh, that's, that's what I was gonna go for. Yeah.
• 13:12
Because I was driving north and I'm, I'm looking, I'm looking over there, I'm looking over there. I'm like, "Whoa, where did it go?" Da, da, da, da, da. Ts, ts, ts, ts.
• 13:23
So our Boaty McBoatface or SS Minnow or the, the- It's getting a little burleskey out there... well, I stopped specifically, and I did take some pictures so I will put them in the show notes- [laughs]...
• 13:35
of the boat that has been stranded on the shore of Lake Michigan at a very, very popular spot. It's probably the most popular spot on the lakefront in Milwaukee is within couple hundred feet of where that boat is.
• 13:50
Oh, yeah. And it's been sitting there for six months? Um, yeah. Yeah, something like that. Six to eight, somewhere around there. And, and, you know, honestly, it's getting to be...
• 14:01
It, it's been, somebody's been doing some dismantling or crushing or... I don't know that that's the salvage company or just some random people messing with it, but it's, it's unfortunately...
• 14:12
It isn't as cool as when it looked like the SS Minnow. Yeah, when it was just- Without graffiti- There... and without a b- Or minimal graffiti. Right. Not... Oh, yes...
• 14:19
I basically think that after, after the holiday season when they Christmas lighted it up and stuff, it just started kinda going downhill with the graffiti and the- Yeah.
• 14:28
Uh, Bellends just did a photo and video shoot down there- Well, there you-... a couple days ago... that's what you're gonna do. So. You're gonna, you're gonna use it... But now I think I- As a backdrop. Da, da, da...
• 14:37
I think the backdropy evenness of it is now almost gone. Right.
• 14:42
And there's an article in, uh, Milwaukee Record about the, a couple different ways they're gonna try and finally get it out of there, but it's, you know- Pff... 36 or 8 foot boat. The thing doesn't weigh nothing. Yeah.
• 14:53
And, uh- Well, it'll just end up being, what is, what is that, Michael's that's doing all the other dam work over there? They'll just- Uh, you mean-... take some of their things and just-... ac- actual dam work? Yeah.
• 15:02
They're making a dam? Dam it. Are they? Oh, the one down by the, the ferry? Bradford. Yeah. Oh, right on. Yeah. Yeah, I don't know. They've been, like, tinkering around there. It's like, no, just- Yeah...
• 15:12
use one of those things and huck a big old boulder, and it'll ram into it and knock it out. Oh, that could be a good thing. Mm-hmm. Anyway. I mean, it works in the cartoons.
• 15:20
I'll have some, I'll have some pictures 'cause I did, I did, uh, scale the rocks. It, it's... You know, you don't wanna, you don't wanna put an ankle wrong there, I'll tell you that much. You just wanna hop- Yeah.
• 15:29
Mm-hmm... lithely th- over those rocks and... Like Legolas. What do your elf eyes see? Yeah. You know? Uh, so that's that thing. Um, mm. Here's something that's not Milwaukee related. Oh. It's Iowa related. Iowa.
• 15:45
It's also cycling related. Uh, RAGBRAI, the Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa. And I'm not even sure the Des Moines Register still does that, but maybe they do.
• 15:57
Uh, they have their route map out, and it's an interesting route this year in that it doesn't only go to Iowa. It actually goes up into Minnesota briefly [laughs] first- Ah... on the northern border.
• 16:12
Uh- Where do you, where do you wedge an M into that, uh, eh, acronym? Ra- RAGBRAI-am. RAG- BRAI-am... RAGBRAIM? Across Iowa and Minnesota. BRAIM? So it'd have to be RAGBRAI-AM. BRAIM? BRAIM. And Milwaukee.
• 16:28
And, and Minnesota. But so, it traditionally many, many years, including up until last year I believe, it was always... Iowa's a pretty much looks like, uh, one of these deals.
• 16:39
Looks, uh, that's Iowa right there except for a little bit over here and a little bit over there. Uh- Sorry Nebraska, we know you use it too. Nebraska's more like this. Yeah, it's got a little thing off the side.
• 16:47
Wyoming. Right. Wyoming. So the, so the deal is that it was always either at the top, middle, or bottom- Wow... for the most part. This year it kinda goes...
• 17:00
And it doesn't even start on the Missouri, so I'm not sure how that works, 'cause it traditionally started on the Missouri River, goes to the Mississippi River.
• 17:06
Anyway, we're starting almost on the river, but by a lake, so you can still let your tire... But it goes yah, and it goes yah, goes yah, yah, whoa, we're in Minnesota, and then it goes yah, and it goes that way.
• 17:16
So it's, it's very up and downy. Huh. Interesting. It's a, it's an interesting route. Uh, it ends in Guttenberg, which has on a road bike- Steve...
• 17:25
the fastest I've ever been on a road bike was on a RAGBRAI that went to Guttenberg as the last stop, and it's a two, two and a half mile... It's, it, it's a long ass hill, and I was on a GT road bike in the late,
• 17:39
late 90s, and 53 miles an hour, which I was like eyes watering. I didn't have gla- Sure... I didn't, I had glasses, but no goggles. Right. I'm like, "This is just insane, but it's so fun." I went...
• 17:53
Now I know how them Tour de France guys, only they're going like 15 miles an hour faster than that- Yeah... on the big do- or whatever. They're just insane.
• 18:01
I watched Paris-Roubaix, by the way, which was the hell of the north. [laughs] If you get a chance to get it on Peacock, it was an epic battle. It was great. Oh, yeah. Check it out. Uh, we dropped off, uh,
• 18:13
dropped off Kim's Mossi for, uh, three speed, uh- Oh, for... What, what's his name? Funk- Funk Aroundry with, uh- What's his name?... Dinardo. What's his name? Oh, Dinardo's gonna do it. Yeah.
• 18:25
'Cause there's that- Well, he's tinkering 'cause he's tinkering... there's that other dude that has the parts if Dinardo needs parts and he doesn't already have 'em. Okay. He's out in Waukesha, I think.
• 18:33
I don't know if his name is Phil. Anyway, he's a Tweed guy and, you know, whatever. Okay. Okay, okay. So if you need parts, you might talk to that guy 'cause I think he bought...
• 18:40
Any bike shop that closes, he pretty much buys all their Sturmey-Archer stuff so that he has way more parts than he's ever gonna need. And that was a good thing 'cause it is Sturmey-Archer.
• 18:51
I- I'm completely in- ignorant about- Well, there's-... that part... that's- But, um-... 90% of- Yeah... three speeds are Sturmey-Archer if they're not Shimano or whatever Oh, yeah, 'cause he was...
• 19:00
That's what he, that's what he wants to do with that stable of bikes that he was able to pick up. Right. He's like, he's like, "This is kinda how I wanna have it set up." I, you know, just- We-...
• 19:10
dr- rideable city bikes... yeah, makes sense to me... straight bars and da, da, da, da, da. But with old good frames and aesthetics of your late, you know, your '60s road bikes- Mm-hmm... basically.
• 19:21
Up into the early '80s when, you know, steel bikes were still something you aspired to own. Not saying you don't want one now 'cause- My phone-... I damn sure do...
• 19:30
my phone heard that you, uh, you invoked the peacock, so and was like, "Oh, there's a peacock notification." [laughs] Nice. Mm-hmm. So here's a steel bike on the cover. Look at this cover here. Oh, lordy, lordy.
• 19:42
The cover of Bike Fed's, um, their Bike Fed Magazine or April... It's actually the ride guide, the 2025 ride guide. Yeah. That just come out? Re- very, it just showed up in the mailbox. I tore the- Oh...
• 19:53
sticker off right there. Okay. But now- 'Cause there was that, that exposition last weekend that I did not attend that normally- Ah... I end up seeing. Oh, and you can collect one up there. I think they probably have it.
• 20:04
So, well, Sealy Dave, I don't know if it's the last time that he's gonna do it, but he, it was a- a part of the laying out and the writing of. And on the front is a steel bike. It's an Omnium cargo bike.
• 20:15
It's Sealy Dave's, and it's got Cowboy. Cowboy. So it's got a dangle- Immortalized... dog. There. Dangle dog on the cover of this here magazine. That's awesome shot too. And it's a really...
• 20:25
He's done a very good job setting that bike up for dogpacking, which means bikepacking with a dog up there in the old, uh, North- Northwoods or whatever. I'm pretty sure- [laughs]...
• 20:36
you can take a dog wherever you want, but anyway, ride guide, Wisconsin Bike Fed, and there's a lot of stuff in here. I actually read some of these articles while I was pooping. [laughs] There's some good stuff in here.
• 20:47
Is it centerfold? Uh, well, I don't think there's a centerfold. It's, like, spine bound, so you don't get the... It's not stable. No, you get the fo- the, that's w- the point of the centerfold. Mm.
• 20:56
You get the flip out and you- Yeah, we don't, no... you never got a damn Playboy, son? No. Yeah, but, but, but, but- [laughs]... but, but no. It would be right there. No. It's the Santa's nice... Anyways.
• 21:05
Oh, He- oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. The N... I remember. Santa Rampage and all that. Oh, that, that... I sh- I wanna check that out 'cause- Yeah... I recall that being a thing during the, uh, Rampage.
• 21:16
Uh- As I was going a salmon ups, against the, the current- Oh, yes... to get to, uh- Oh, yes... the Nomad, and people are like, "That's very dangerous that you were crossing." I'm like, "Oh, my."
• 21:28
[laughs] You're gonna wanna go ahead and step off. Yeah. You're not go- you were, like, off to a good start. Right?
• 21:34
[laughs] Uh, so I had lots of plans to do, be way more productive here at the old studio/shop today, but, uh, FedEx has been a thorn in my side for the last... well, since the 11th.
• 21:49
And today, recording today, is the 16th, so the last five days. We'll give them a break on the two weekend days 'cause technically this place is not m- you know, it's not really open on the weekends.
• 22:00
But they left a door tag on Friday. Okay, I gotta sign for this thing? I don't know why, 'cause when I called up the thing and tracked my tag, it said, "This does not require a signature."
• 22:11
And then Monday, s- tag out, waiting for guy, nothing. Tuesday, tag out waiting for a guy, nothing. Wednesday,
• 22:19
it's on the, we have this big, you know, like s- six or, uh, 10 or whatever mailboxes, you know, like in a, we're in a commercial building.
• 22:28
And the mailbox, the mailman comes and he slams the door on the tag, so now the tag is inside and it's locked in there and I can't get to it because it, he can open the whole thing at once and put the mail in each of their slots.
• 22:41
So when he slams it shut, the latch of the, the whole thing happens to be on my mailbox, and so now it's stuck in there. So I had to call FedEx. I'm like, "What, what's going on here?" Why?
• 22:52
This guy is a, he's a, uh, contract driver, and it's not his normal spot, so he doesn't know how it works here. How it works here is don't fucking worry about it. Just leave it there.
• 23:01
Anyway, so I had to spend an hour going down to the FedEx facility and grab these things. Boom. Boom. Boom, these are- And boom... so this is a Quad Lock setup.
• 23:14
Anybody who rides a motorcycle or some people who ride bicycles probably know what these are. It is a case for your phone, and they make them for many phones.
• 23:24
This one happens to be for an iPhone 15 Pro, so it better fit this particular phone right here. And it's got a, it's got a lock that goes kashlamo. So you put this gizmo... Oh, that's the charging gizmo.
• 23:38
This is the waterproof wireless charging gizmo. There's the little creaky arm. Which... Yeah, yeah, that's the putty on the front of the bikey thing. So we're gonna check these out.
• 23:48
I'm curious because- Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding. As you're riding? Come on... because I already have...
• 23:54
I'm a Peak Design guy, so I already have one with the thing, and that, you can do that too, but it doesn't have a charger. I'm looking at the charger idea. This is a good idea. So we'll see what that's all about.
• 24:03
But anyway- I found out where the, the- I just want these Quad Lock- I just found where the, the ABV is Where is it? On the logo. Yeah, I said it was gonna be hidden somewhere. Well, it was.
• 24:15
And, and I'm just- But mine's hidden underneath this. Anyway- Sorry... um, so I just want these guys to know- I was just happy with myself...
• 24:20
I've already got an hour into this review, and we haven't really done anything with it yet, and except for show you fine people this Quad Lock stuff.
• 24:28
And if you're a motorcycle rider, I'm sure you know about these- So how far out-... 'cause they're, they're very popular. [burps] Pardon me. On the mount, like you're ding, ding, dinging. I don't...
• 24:39
That's a good question. That's something we'll have to answer when we review said product. Um, it, it just goes on your handlebar and, and it's just a little bit out there. It's not way out there. Right.
• 24:50
You know, they have different mounts. They have many different mounts. If you're a motorcycle person- Oh, I kinda see... they've got the ball mount thing and- I see what it does. Okay...
• 24:57
you know, I think for the bicycle thing, they're being a little more minimalist to save some weight. Yeah. For sure But, uh...
• 25:02
But yeah, so we'll, we'll give this a go and, uh, that's, that's gonna be on your Fatbike.com there or your Full Spectrum Cycling. I don't know.
• 25:08
Here's the thing, we got these two websites and, and, and, and, and one's good for stumps and another's good for other stuff, but it's not like these are fat bike specific. But there's, there's cross-pollination. Yeah.
• 25:19
There's, like, crossover there. Like big threads intertwining. I might have mentioned this last week, too. So, uh, I did draw, uh, yes, today, Y- T- Todaysterday, whenever, yesterday or today.
• 25:36
I, I drew the first three winners of the sticker pack for signing up for... This is for Fatbike.com, by the way. Yes. So, uh, it would be- [laughs] I'm like, "I have no idea what you're talking about."
• 25:49
Well, I'm just gonna... Yeah. Uh, so sign up, sign up for our, uh, email newsletter. We're not gonna spam you.
• 25:55
We're just gonna send you some stuff where you'll probably benefit from it, 'cause there might be good deals in there and whatnot, including links to shirts like this new shirt that I have on. Look at that.
• 26:03
Oh, Liberty Spikes. Liberty Spikes. I like it. [laughs] Um, uh, so anyway, Thomas, Greg with two Gs, not one G like myself, or, uh, yeah, or, and also Chad- [laughs]... although not Chad whom we know. Uh, anyway.
• 26:19
[laughs] So Thomas, Greg, and Chad are our first winners, and I sent them, uh, I sent them emails saying, "You, you fine people are winners. Send me your address."
• 26:28
One, uh, one of them has already sent it in, so they're very, very quick responding. All right.
• 26:32
But anyway, we're gonna do another drawing next week for sticker packs, and the cool thing about these Fatbike.com sticker packs is that some of these stickers are from the very first year or maybe the second year that the site was around- Huh...
• 26:44
so they're 10, 11 years old at least. Some of them have the old, old star in the A, which was... We decided not to use it once Fat Chance came back, but they were...
• 26:58
When we started, they weren't back yet, and then we're like, "Eh, you know what? I don't wanna mess with these guys," 'cause that original star on the A is a Chris Chance, Fat Chance thing.
• 27:06
So we made it a, we made it a pine tree. It's a, it's a- [laughs]... pine, pine tree. Pine tree. You see what I'm saying?
• 27:13
So, uh, and we also made some butts, even though they're actually just half-moons, um, in the, in the B. That's a butt B. Speaking of full moons, I got an idea. Here's an idea.
• 27:25
August 9th, sorry, Wendy, I know it's our 27th year anniversary, but I believe it's also a full moon in Port Washington. [laughs] Which we will have a full moon beach ride set up going on August 9th.
• 27:43
I will make a Facebook event for that. What day? And- Is that a weekend? It's a Saturday night. Oh, it's a Saturday night. Doesn't that work nicely? It does.
• 27:51
And at, yes, we were married 20-s- whatever, eight, seven years ago on that day. I just had to do that, uh, ciphering because I applied for Social Security today. Ah. Hey. And I had to try to figure out...
• 28:05
I, I know what [laughs] I, I know when I'm married. Don't worry about it. It wasn't that long ago. But, um, I did have to verify it so that I didn't screw that up and m- become ineligible for my fat stacks.
• 28:19
You know, it's not that fat. Right. Right. But at least there's four f- it's four figures, not three. Oh. I feel good about that. Yeah. I feel very good about that.
• 28:29
And I'm not counting the two zeros after the decimal point. Math. That said- I suck with math...
• 28:35
well, turning 62, as I will soon in July, I do not trust that I will ever collect for the m- hopefully, you know, 25 years I'm still on this rock of a thing that we're floating around the universe on.
• 28:50
So I wanna get it, I wanna get my stuff- Yeah...
• 28:53
before somebody else g- gets my stuff, like, you know, some clown that- Well, yeah, like my cousin down in the Ozarks who's been sucking off of it for the past decade- Well, there you go... and will do until perpetuity.
• 29:04
But th- that's neither here nor there, is it? I don't know. Not so much. I don't know. I don't know. All right. So those are the winners of the- [laughs]... uh, what do you call it?
• 29:13
Their sticker pack, and that's still going on. I'm gonna put a link in the show notes here, and I'll probably do another post somewhere over there on the, uh- Speaking of stickers-... Fatbike.com...
• 29:22
that one came off, uh, while it was in my backpack. Oh. Like, like one half of... Well, no, one half of the backing. I just had it and I was like- Oh, I see... "I have, I have to put it somewhere."
• 29:31
So yeah, amorphic, you get some free- So do you have... Is the other half still on there? It looks like, uh- No, it's, it's just the way that- I see. Yeah. I can't put stickers on my phone 'cause I got the deal on it.
• 29:40
Oh, yeah, see. Oh, see- Probably, probably come into the same problem with here if you wanna put- Apple is juicy... some stickers on this thing. Yeah, see. Yeah. Oh, here. Um- Yeah, then you gotta pick a lane.
• 29:49
Uh, uh- Oh, there's a cool chopper thing from... Uh, I think this was at Seattle. I probably ought to look that up. Uh- It's a chopper, baby. Guardian Bikes.
• 29:58
I, I was not familiar with these guys, but apparently they are somewhat of a Huffy slash, uh, you know, Pacific Cycles kind of a place- Okay... that makes a bunch of very, you know, entry-level bikes.
• 30:11
But they have some cool features to 'em, and they've been assembling the bikes here- Uh, in the United States 'Merica 'Merica...
• 30:19
uh, for some time now, but they are now going to build what will likely be, at least for the time being, the largest bicycle manufacturing frame building plant in the country. And I think that...
• 30:34
I think they were gonna do it anyway. I don't think this was spurred on by the orange guy's, uh, tariff bullshit. But it make- But hastened by But hastened by.
• 30:43
And, you know, uh, uh, to be fair to our southern brothers, they are almost a third world country down there wage-wise, so.
• 30:51
You know, I don't think your, uh, I don't think your, your autoworker unions are gonna get into that plant anytime soon. Mm.
• 30:58
Not to make too big a point about it, but it's great that, uh, they're bringing manufacturing back to the US. It just, yeah.
• 31:07
There's other- You're still gonna have to- There's better ways to do it, but Yeah, you're still gonna have to bring all of the components and everything that goes into making the bicycle, except for the frame, is gonna have to come from overseas.
• 31:17
There's no way that there's any plant in this country that can do it as inexpensively or as well, to be fair, because we taught everyone over there how to do it well. Uh, it just, it doesn't fiscally make any sense.
• 31:31
You're way better off putting it out on a, putting it on a dang old boat and shipping it over here, and that's just how it's gonna be even at 140%, 192.5, 252. Can I get 300% tariff? You gonna take a slow boat to China.
• 31:44
I'm just saying. I'm only doing 10, though. Uh, I'll just, I'll change my mind every day, what I'm gonna do. How many years till I can retire [laughs] and not do- Right?... any of this shit?
• 31:53
[laughs] Yeah, don't deal with that crap. Uh- Don't wanna jinx myself, but I don't suppose. Remember Wink Martindale? Yes. He, uh, 91 years old, he, uh- I- He finally cashed in that last game show chip he had.
• 32:08
It w- I- it was bad when I... It popped up and I was like, "Hey, Wink Martindale passed away." Kinda already already did. Ah. [laughs] And I was like, I'm like, I, I, I felt bad in a way, but, you know, a, a handful of
• 32:23
celebrities of the past- Yes... have, are alive and just kinda retreat to the background. Well, that's what it- And, and we're, and that's, and that's fine. I remember, uh, like John Madden. He just kinda, whoosh. Yeah.
• 32:35
It, it- Like, uh, it just faded away. Uh, Gene Hackman- Well, I'd, I-... until recently, of course To be fair, I thought Gene Hackman had passed away 10 years ago, because you never heard anything about him. Hmm.
• 32:44
But he was 95 or whatever the fuck he was. [laughs] Right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So yeah. But yeah, Wink, 91. Yeah, Tic-Tac-Toe, man. Hey, hey, here's a wink at you, Wink. [clicking] And there is a- Good on you, mate...
• 32:55
there's a, um, a coach in either the NFL or college football ranks- They-... named Wink Martindale. I think his name is, like, Jeff Martindale, but his nickname is Wink s- or something like that. Well, right on.
• 33:08
But it, it's funny 'cause, like, on occasion, you know, you have the sports ball on the, uh, rolling in the background going like, "Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah." Yeah.
• 33:15
And all of a sudden you just see the Chir- Chiron that goes, "Oh, Wink Martindale." I'm like, "What? Is... No." So what I'm... Yeah. No, he is not. That's not him. That's a big- Like, okay-... punchy dude...
• 33:26
so when I'm working at home, which I do usually in the morning on the website stuff, I want something in the background that's not gonna bother me, and it's not maybe a Star Wars movie. [laughs] But it might be.
• 33:40
Uh, it, it recently it's been a lot of the Spring Classics, the Monuments and the, and the, you know, Paris-Roubaix and all the bike racing because for three hours of, it's about, you know, 12 minutes of stuff you wanna catch on there, but you just want it on.
• 33:54
Mm. So you catch it when it's on there. It's also like listening to a baseball game, though. Sure. Yeah, yeah. Or watching a baseball game even, which I would rather listen to. Mm-hmm.
• 34:02
Which by the way, that radio works over there. I should listen to ballgames on that big old Philco over there. Ain't no Euchre, though. No, no more Bob Euchre. I know. 'Cause that was always the fun part.
• 34:14
It was always like, "Oh, he's gonna... He'll pull, like, one or two innings on this one." Oh, yeah. You know? It was a good- I mean, g- at the end, towards the end it was like, he was like, "No, no."
• 34:23
But they were still robust innings. Robust. Uh, finally, before we get out of here, I just wanna call Park Tool out and say, "Why do you guys hate fat bikes so much?" Why? Park Tool. Why? Why? Why?
• 34:37
Why do you hate fat bikes- Why?... so much? So they came out with this cool tool. It's called the BMT-1 Tire Bead Breaker. BMT. And to be fair- Isn't that a sandwich from Subway?
• 34:49
You remember your tires that almost nobody could get off the rim? Yes. Like, if you got a flat- Still... right, if you got a flat on the road- Oh, I'm done. Yeah...
• 34:57
you can't because those things are so locked into the bead.
• 34:59
And thumbs m- m- and to be, you know, like Steven Bostwick, our guy that's the, kind of our king of repairs over in the shop, he had a hard time, and his thumbs are, like, eight feet long and he's got good leverage.
• 35:14
Anyway, this thing is really cool because it's like a vice grip with a clampy thing that breaks that bead. Because once you get the bead broken even a little bit, then you're golden.
• 35:24
You just rip a tool around and you're good to go. It only goes up to three-inch tires, Park. Why? Why?
• 35:32
[laughs] I mean, yes, you can put the wheel on the ground and step on it with your heel if you have a good shoe, but it doesn't work with, like, Skechers as well or something. But if you got- [phone rings]
• 35:43
Who is calling? Oh, it's a goddamn, goddamn... What do they call those things? The spam guys. I know it's- Robocall... I know it's a spam guy 'cause it's from- Beep boop... River Hills, and nobody ever calls me- I-...
• 35:54
from River Hills... w- mine, mine come up as Scam Likely. And it's so funny- [laughs]... because it's, I'm just like, "Ooh, Scam Likely." And I'm thinking, there's a local band called Scam Likely- Mm...
• 36:01
which is clever and- That's, well, you think that's where they got it from? Oh, um, yes. Duh. [laughs] Anyway, so this fucking tool doesn't work on fat bike tires.
• 36:11
That said, I will pull o- out one and have a picture of it somewhere. Pro- I'm probably gonna do an article on fatbike.com of this tool and then-
• 36:21
Dave, uh, motherfucking Lunz Puck made a tool for us for fat bike tires like 10 years ago that is, like, leverage that long. It's like this huge set of channel locks with stuff welded on, too.
• 36:36
[imitates welding] And originally we just used it to, like, seat the bead so it was even, but if you clamp down enough it'll pop the bead. Take a clue, Park Tool. That's all I'm saying.
• 36:49
I actually have a flat on that one that you speak of. I, well, I would get the tool just because th- there's a lot of bead, bead- You can, I can bring it over and test it out. Yeah. Uh, there's a lot of...
• 37:01
I, well, I'll have to wait till I do another order, but there's a lot of bead/rim combos that are just, they... And, and this is good for your tubeless business, but they lock in there so hard. So hard. So hard.
• 37:13
Oh, I don't know, did we have this thing? Z- z- z- z- z- I can't do that. No, you gotta do it on that one. I think, I think Tony sent it as a thing in the, uh, the,
• 37:23
one of those other ways people message, so I didn't transfer it over to the sh- to the show notes. Yeah.
• 37:29
Uh, apparently Odyssey, and them of BMX fame, I don't know where they came up with this idea to make a tube, [sniffs] [sighs] and it's, they don't call it a tube, but it's a thing that goes inside your tubeless,
• 37:43
but it's a tube. So it has two air chambers. You, y- you air up your little tube and it's, it's, it's a little tube. Chamber. It's a little- It's not tube... it's a little tiny tube down in here like this. A chamber.
• 37:54
It's like, "Oh, in case your tire goes flat, there's still us down here. We can still roll a little bit."
• 37:58
I swear to God, I'm not sure if it was an Odyssey one, but it was the same color, during Paris-Roubaix a guy had a flat and this, that tubey thing that was in the tubeless tire came flying outta there.
• 38:08
I'm like, [inhales] "I don't know, if you burp a tire, is that thing still gonna be in there?" [laughs] Anyway, they don't call it a tube, but it's got air in it, and it's inside your tire. It's a tube, right?
• 38:20
[clicks tongue] As far as I am, yeah. It's, but it doesn't expand to the full- By any, uh- The fullness. It only expands to half the fullness, so you still have your tubeless crap in there. And you know what?
• 38:31
A bladder by any other name is still the same. Right. It's a bladder, a bladder of air. [clicks tongue] And I don't know why this is such a big deal these days- A bladder...
• 38:39
unless you live in a place with, you know, goat head, uh, pokey things or cacti or whatever. Bladder. Too many, too many maintenance issues still to this day, 27,038 minutes later from when they invented
• 38:56
tubeless tires for bicycles. It ain't still a good thing, folks. [laughs] If you got a m- if you got a professional mechanic on your team or you can, you know, whatever, you can afford to, you know,
• 39:11
maintain your bike, whatever. [laughs] Fuck those things. [laughs] That's all I'm saying. All right. So I'm gonna do that whole thing we did before. I don't think we have much more to do.
• 39:20
We did that, we did that, we did that. MMI and the Green Miles this weekend. Go for it. Uh, also El Rongo playing at Amorphic is- Uh, be there...
• 39:27
one of the highlights of the Friday edition, uh, a, the 18th at the [sniffs] Amorphic, uh- Back in the Woodshed. Yeah, they call it the Woodshed now, aren't they, back there? Or he did. That was Jamie. Yeah.
• 39:42
Jamie benefits from us doing this on Wednesdays now instead of Tu- Brian... I, I tried to stop in and see Brian last night. Alex was working.
• 39:49
Brian had some kind of vehicle- Alex, that was normally on the other side of the bar? Alex the lady, not Alex the man. Oh, okay. Yeah. [laughs] All right. Well, yeah, yeah. We gotta figure that part out.
• 39:59
And she, I don't know how thrilled she was. Either she doesn't like me or she just [laughs] wasn't thrilled to be there. There's that. Could be. I mean, I don't like me either.
• 40:05
We have made a, maybe we have made a wise choice. How very, uh, ah, Joseph of Arimathea. We'll figure it out. All right. Next week we'll be back probably. All right, y'all. Bye.
• 40:18
  [rock music]
