- 0:01A will, a hope immense now seized his heart, and to discern
- 0:06the superhuman's form he raised his eyes to unseen spiritual
- 0:11heights, aspiring to bring down a greater world.
- 0:16The glory he had glimpsed must be his home.
- 0:20A brighter, heavenlier sun must soon illume this dusk room with
- 0:25its dark internal stare. The infant's soul in its small
- 0:30nursery school, mid objects meant for a lesson hardly
- 0:35learned, outgrow its early grammar of intellect and its
- 0:40imitation of earth. Nature's art, its earthly
- 0:43dialect to God, language, change in living symbols, study reality
- 0:51and learn the logic of the infinite.
- 0:55The ideal must be nature's common truth.
- 0:58The body illumined with the indwelling God.
- 1:01The heart and mind feel one with all that is a conscious soul.
- 1:06Live in a conscious world as through a mist a sovereign peak
- 1:12is seen. The greatness of the Eternal
- 1:15Spirit appeared. Exiled in a fragmented universe
- 1:20amid half semblances of Diviner things, these now could serve no
- 1:26more his regal turn, the Immortal's pride refused the
- 1:31doom to live. A miser of the scanty bargain
- 1:35made between our littleness and bounded hopes and the
- 1:40compassionate infinitudes. His height repelled the lowness
- 1:45of Earth's state. A wideness discontented with its
- 1:50frame resiled from poor assent to nature's terms.
- 1:56The harsh contract spurned and the diminished lease Only
- 2:01beginnings are accomplished here.
- 2:04Our bases matter seems alone complete.
- 2:07An absolute machine without a soul or all.
- 2:12Seems a misfit of half ideas, where we saddle with the vice of
- 2:17earthly form, a hurried, imperfect glimpse of heavenly
- 2:21things, guesses and travesties of celestial types.
- 2:27Here chaos sorts itself into a world, a brief formation
- 2:32drifting in the void. Apings of knowledge, unfinished
- 2:37arcs of power, Flamings of beauty into earthly shapes.
- 2:42Love's broken reflexes of unity, swim fragment.
- 2:46Mirrorings of a floating sun, A packed assemblage of crude,
- 2:51tentative lives are pieced into a tessellated hole.
- 2:56There is no perfect answer to our hopes.
- 3:00There are blind, voiceless doors that have no key Thought climbs
- 3:05in vain and brings a borrowed light.
- 3:09Cheated by counterfeits sold to us in life's Mart, our hearts
- 3:14clutch at a forfeited heavenly bliss.
- 3:18There is a provender for the mind's satiety.
- 3:21There are thrills of the flesh, but not the soul's desire.
- 3:27Here even the highest rapture time can give is a mimicry of
- 3:32ungrasped beatitudes, a mutilated statue of ecstasy, a
- 3:37wounded happiness that cannot live, a brief Felicity of mind
- 3:42or sense thrown by the world power to her body slave, or a
- 3:47simulacrum of enforced delight in the Seragelios of ignorance.
- 3:55For all we have acquired soon loses worth an old disvalued
- 3:59credit. In times bank, imperfections
- 4:03checked, drawn on the inconscient, and in consequence
- 4:07dogs every effort made, and chaos waits on every cosmos
- 4:12formed. In each success a seed of
- 4:16failure lurks. He saw the doubtfulness of all
- 4:21things here, the in certitude of man's proud, confident thought,
- 4:28the transience of the achievements of his force, a
- 4:31thinking being in an unthinking world, an island in the sea of
- 4:36the unknown. He is a smallness, trying to be
- 4:40great, an animal with some instincts of a God, his life a
- 4:46story too common to be told, his deeds, a number summing up to
- 4:51naughty, his consciousness, a torch lit to be quenched, his
- 4:57hope, a star above a cradle engrave.
- 5:01And yet a greater destiny may be his, for the eternal spirit is
- 5:07his truth. He can recreate himself and all
- 5:11around and fashion new the world in which he lives.
- 5:16He ignorant is the knower beyond time.
- 5:22He is the self above nature, above fate.
