- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:04Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus. Powered by Seahawks.com. Now, here's your host, Nassau Chobie.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Welcome into another edition of Hawk Talk, the Seahawks get
- 0:14Speaker 1: it done bump. Primetime Saturday Night Football. Take down the
- 0:17Speaker 1: Chiefs 20-3 bump in the Seahawks defense. They reminded everybody
- 0:23Speaker 1: in the National Football League why they're the number one team.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Number one offense, number one defense in the NFL, and
- 0:29Speaker 1: they shut them down.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Like Roy Jones said, y'all must have forgot Roy Jones
- 0:34Speaker 2: back in the day.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Yeah, it was cool, man.
- 0:36Speaker 2: They did some things we've never seen before, all right?
- 0:38Speaker 1: Three points.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Mahomes team has never only scored three points. 11 first downs,
- 0:44Speaker 2: first time for Mahomes team. No red zone drives, first
- 0:48Speaker 2: time for Mahomes team. He's played in 153 of these games.
- 0:52Speaker 2: This defense, they reminded me. Like, I knew they were good.
- 0:55Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
- 0:55Speaker 1: I knew they were.
- 0:56Speaker 2: The best defense in the league but it was the
- 0:58Speaker 2: way they did it was just dominant.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Oh from the jump and that's the thing that's that's
- 1:02Speaker 1: patrick mahomes like these are numbers that you would see
- 1:04Speaker 1: on a friday night yeah not on a sunday night
- 1:06Speaker 1: with this team not allowing him in the red zone
- 1:08Speaker 1: that's crazy that like andy reed patrick rose come on
- 1:11Speaker 1: now per espn research to see oxford the first team
- 1:13Speaker 1: since 1984 browns hold their first seven opponents under 180
- 1:17Speaker 1: passing yards and then on top of that you shut
- 1:20Speaker 1: down ken walker we're gonna get in all the standouts
- 1:22Speaker 1: from last night but What Ken Walker was doing this
- 1:24Speaker 1: year to hold him to 36 yards? Come on, man.
- 1:27Speaker 2: See, I felt victim. I thought he'd get a hundo.
- 1:30Speaker 2: I'm like, look, he's that good. The O-line is playing
- 1:32Speaker 2: that good. And you can throw the excuse out, oh,
- 1:33Speaker 2: they're missing a tackle. You've been missing them all year, okay?
- 1:36Speaker 2: This O-line was playing good. O-9 was playing out of
- 1:40Speaker 2: his mind. And I thought he would have at least
- 1:43Speaker 2: one explosive play. Because, you know, it's almost like when
- 1:46Speaker 2: you play against a talent, you're like, all right, we
- 1:48Speaker 2: can't stop him. Let's contain him. They stopped and contained
- 1:51Speaker 2: and kept the lid on. The seal was still on
- 1:53Speaker 2: that thing. They shut this down. I was not expecting that.
- 1:56Speaker 2: They reminded me, thank you, Seahawks defense.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Yeah, that D-line, everybody. It's all 11. The way they
- 2:01Speaker 1: get to the football, the way they tackle. When you
- 2:03Speaker 1: can stay in your nickel defense, whatever you want to
- 2:06Speaker 1: call it, because even when it doesn't come off the field,
- 2:08Speaker 1: you play 100% of the snaps. All the snaps. No
- 2:10Speaker 1: base defense. I mean, this team is in rare form
- 2:13Speaker 1: like we saw when they won the Super Bowl last year.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Let's get right into the game with what had happened. See,
- 2:19Speaker 1: what had happened was. What had happened at first was.
- 2:22Speaker 1: What had happened was. On Hawk Talk. The football game
- 2:26Speaker 1: started out kind of slow offensively with each of the
- 2:28Speaker 1: first three drives ending in punts for both teams. But
- 2:30Speaker 1: the Seahawks put together their second longest drive of the season.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Bumped 15 plays, 86 yards. Did have to settle for
- 2:35Speaker 1: a field goal, which made the score 3-0. But a
- 2:38Speaker 1: big chunk of that came from a 33-yard pass, a
- 2:40Speaker 1: little catch and run to JSN, and he did the rest.
- 2:43Speaker 2: You know what I liked about that field goal was
- 2:45Speaker 2: that Sam didn't force it. He threw the ball at
- 2:48Speaker 2: the back of the end zone and said, you know what,
- 2:50Speaker 2: let's get some points on the board and let's do
- 2:52Speaker 2: our thing. But, yeah, the J is saying, man, that
- 2:54Speaker 2: catch and run. It's just however you want it, what
- 2:56Speaker 2: you want. You want a short pass with Yak. You
- 2:58Speaker 2: want to just go across the middle, just get hit,
- 3:00Speaker 2: get a first down over to Ty. However you want it,
- 3:03Speaker 2: he will serve it.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Up to you.
- 3:04Speaker 2: And then the Chiefs get the football, and Pat Mahomes, man,
- 3:10Speaker 2: throws one up to Ty Okada, but it was number
- 3:12Speaker 2: three that influenced that thing. It was beautiful to watch.
- 3:15Speaker 2: And when I first saw– Nicky McGuire and what he
- 3:18Speaker 2: was doing. It felt like he was blitzing, but really
- 3:21Speaker 2: it was simulated pressure. Like they're four on the line,
- 3:24Speaker 2: they're dropping one and sending him, making it four. So
- 3:26Speaker 2: it's not technically a blitz because you're only sending it
- 3:28Speaker 2: for him, but it feels like a blitz and it
- 3:29Speaker 2: looks like a blitz.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Well, with that speed, that closing speed, Patrick Mullins right now.
- 3:33Speaker 1: And then shout out Ty Okada, big play Ty. That's
- 3:36Speaker 1: his second interception on primetime. He had to get interception
- 3:38Speaker 1: against the Commanders last year on Sunday Night Football, so
- 3:41Speaker 1: it was just pretty good. Hawks will take advantage, going
- 3:43Speaker 1: 10 plays, 66 yards, ending with a 28-yard touchdown. to JSN.
- 3:47Speaker 1: That made the score 10-0. Absolute dime from Sam Darnold.
- 3:50Speaker 1: We'll break that down a little bit later, but the
- 3:52Speaker 1: Seahawks are in firm control.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Yeah, Chiefs will go three and out on the next possession,
- 3:56Speaker 2: and the Hawks will put together another productive drive. Six plays,
- 4:00Speaker 2: 61 yards, getting all the way down to the Chiefs'
- 4:02Speaker 2: two-yard line, and then it happened. Sam Darnold throws an
- 4:05Speaker 2: interception in the end zone. Noel Williams runs it back
- 4:08Speaker 2: 65 yards, meant all the way to the Hawks' 44,
- 4:11Speaker 2: but big ups to 6'7. Charles Cross, man. It wasn't
- 4:16Speaker 2: a sprint. It was a big man jog. Like, let
- 4:18Speaker 2: me just be in position. Let me make sure. Maybe
- 4:20Speaker 2: it felt like a sprint to him. But I'm looking
- 4:22Speaker 2: at him running down the field, and he didn't give up.
- 4:26Speaker 2: The play was forced back to him. He makes the play.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Charles Crossman. That could have changed, like, the feel and
- 4:32Speaker 2: the vibe of the game.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Oh, absolutely. Once he got to the sideline, you got
- 4:35Speaker 1: kind of nervous. You're like, okay. But you watched everybody.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Gray Zabel was out there in space trying to do it.
- 4:41Speaker 1: George Helani sprinting. Abe Luke is hauling his you-know-what down there.
- 4:45Speaker 1: So that was a huge play because if they didn't
- 4:47Speaker 1: do that, if he runs it back for a touchdown,
- 4:49Speaker 1: it's a 14-point swing. Instead, because of that hustle, the
- 4:52Speaker 1: Chiefs would miss a 58-yard field goal. Both teams go
- 4:55Speaker 1: into the locker room at 10-0 game. Seahawks would get
- 4:57Speaker 1: the ball right out of halftime. There's only two possessions
- 5:01Speaker 1: in the third quarter. Seahawks kick a field goal. Chiefs
- 5:05Speaker 1: kick a field goal. That made the score 13-3 heading
- 5:07Speaker 1: into the fourth quarter.
- 5:08Speaker 2: The Hawks would punt on their first possession of the
- 5:10Speaker 2: fourth quarter, and the Chiefs would drive 60 yards and
- 5:13Speaker 2: 11 plays but get no points as Harrison Bucker missed
- 5:16Speaker 2: his second field goal of the game. Then the Seahawks
- 5:20Speaker 2: would put the game away with a nine-play 65-yard drive
- 5:23Speaker 2: ending with a 21-yard touchdown by Emmanuel Wilson. That made
- 5:26Speaker 2: the score 20-3, the longest rushing touchdown of the year
- 5:30Speaker 2: for the Hawks.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, for a running back, which is crazy because– obviously,
- 5:35Speaker 1: on this team with all the explosive runners they have. But, no,
- 5:37Speaker 1: it was really good to see Emmanuel do that. We'll
- 5:38Speaker 1: talk about him in a little bit. After that bump,
- 5:41Speaker 1: the Chiefs would turn the ball over on downs. The
- 5:43Speaker 1: next possession, the Seahawks would take knees. Game over. But
- 5:46Speaker 1: this game was way more dominant than the score would
- 5:48Speaker 1: tell you. The Seahawks outgained the Chiefs 410-213. The Hawks
- 5:51Speaker 1: had 24 first downs. The Chiefs had 11. The Hawks
- 5:52Speaker 1: converted 11 of 16 on third downs. The Chiefs were
- 5:54Speaker 1: 3 of 11. The Seahawks were 5 of 6 on
- 6:01Speaker 1: 3rd and 9 plus, which is crazy because you know
- 6:03Speaker 1: how much the Seahawks were struggling in that thing. And
- 6:06Speaker 1: the Seahawks also won time possession 35-51 to 24-09. It
- 6:11Speaker 1: was a domination bump. This game could have easily been
- 6:14Speaker 1: 30-3 or even more, but it was good to see
- 6:17Speaker 1: the Seahawks win in that fashion.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Yeah, and K-9 only rushed for 36 carries on 14 yards,
- 6:21Speaker 2: and he was averaging 133 yards per game. To do that,
- 6:27Speaker 2: I mean, come on, man. That's one stat you can
- 6:29Speaker 2: look at, and it happened exactly the way you think.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Other stats, you know, you got to kind of feel
- 6:33Speaker 2: the game out, but that was impressive.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Yeah, no, it was... People forget these Chiefs were 5-0,
- 6:38Speaker 1: number one offensively. This was a really good football team,
- 6:41Speaker 1: and while that was the first time the Seahawks had
- 6:43Speaker 1: almost put a full four quarters together in all phases
- 6:46Speaker 1: of the game, so it was good to see there.
- 6:47Speaker 1: A couple injury notes from the game. Looks like Jadarian
- 6:50Speaker 1: Price will open his 21-day practice window this week, according
- 6:53Speaker 1: to Mike McDonald, so we'll stay you know, keep locked
- 6:56Speaker 1: in on that. That doesn't necessarily mean he's going to
- 6:57Speaker 1: play this week, but the fact that he's getting back
- 6:59Speaker 1: out to the practice field, that's great news. Then you
- 7:01Speaker 1: got Zach Charbonnet. We still don't know. We're hoping that
- 7:05Speaker 1: he could come back. He's going to continue to practice
- 7:07Speaker 1: the closer and closer we get. Love to see that.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Rashid Shahid, apparently positive news on the outlook on his
- 7:15Speaker 1: knee so far. So we'll wait to see there. And
- 7:17Speaker 1: then Charles Cross, obviously dinged up his ankle. So we'll say,
- 7:20Speaker 1: wait to hear long-term there. Obviously we know how good
- 7:22Speaker 1: Charles is. Jones can come in there and play. It
- 7:26Speaker 1: was good to see the running back step up. But
- 7:28Speaker 1: after watching the film, looking at it all down, Bump,
- 7:30Speaker 1: what did you learn? I learned to never forget. That's
- 7:33Speaker 1: what I learned.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Never forget who's out there, man, and how good this
- 7:38Speaker 2: defense is.
- 7:39Speaker 1: It all starts with the bigs.
- 7:40Speaker 2: To my first two series at the Binoculars, I did
- 7:44Speaker 2: not look outside the box. I was focused on the
- 7:46Speaker 2: box the whole time because I knew this game would
- 7:48Speaker 2: be won and lost right there. And watching Anthony Bradford play,
- 7:52Speaker 2: Come back and have himself a good game was awesome.
- 7:55Speaker 2: Watching the way Leo plays. Sundell had himself a couple
- 7:57Speaker 2: really good blocks in the run game as well. I
- 8:00Speaker 2: learned to never forget what this defense is and how
- 8:03Speaker 2: important this offensive line and defensive line is.
- 8:06Speaker 1: No question about it. Ray Roberts always talks about game
- 8:08Speaker 1: is won and lost in the trenches. We talk about
- 8:11Speaker 1: resiliency almost every single week. I think I've learned good luck.
- 8:16Speaker 1: If the Seahawks have a couple extra days, it might
- 8:18Speaker 1: be Donald and the staff before they play you. Good luck,
- 8:21Speaker 1: because they're going to have a game plan that's going
- 8:22Speaker 1: to make your best players look pretty bad. A lot
- 8:24Speaker 1: of people making plays on Sunday. Time for Playmakers.
- 8:29Speaker 3: Touchdown, Seahawks!
- 8:32Speaker 1: Playmakers. Show them what time it is! Holy catfish! All right,
- 8:39Speaker 1: we're going to start with the quarterbacks like we always do,
- 8:41Speaker 1: Sam Darnold. 20 of 28, 257 yards, one touchdown, one interception,
- 8:47Speaker 1: QB rating of 96.9. He also had two carries for
- 8:50Speaker 1: 17 yards, two big first downs. And while those aren't
- 8:54Speaker 1: unbelievable numbers, it was so much better than the stats,
- 8:57Speaker 1: just like the score was. He was throwing dimes out
- 8:59Speaker 1: there all night long. He was confident. He was ripping it.
- 9:02Speaker 1: He wasn't, you know, hesitant on any of the previous
- 9:06Speaker 1: interception or anything like that. Sam was locked in. He
- 9:08Speaker 1: was playing with extreme confidence. I love the runs that
- 9:11Speaker 1: he had in the game, a couple big first downs.
- 9:13Speaker 1: That's going to make it that much harder to defend
- 9:15Speaker 1: this team. So I love what we're seeing from Sam.
- 9:17Speaker 1: That was a huge game from him, even if the
- 9:18Speaker 1: stats didn't say the same thing.
- 9:20Speaker 2: That's the type of game you need when your defense
- 9:23Speaker 2: is doing what they're doing and you're able to run
- 9:26Speaker 2: the football as well.
- 9:26Speaker 1: You did run the football pretty good.
- 9:27Speaker 2: All right, JSM, another day, another dollar, another 150 yards,
- 9:31Speaker 2: nine receptions, one 50, one touchdown. He became the sixth
- 9:34Speaker 2: player in NFL history to record 100 receiving yards in
- 9:38Speaker 2: six of his team's first seven games of a season.
- 9:41Speaker 2: and the fourth player in NFL history with at least
- 9:43Speaker 2: 55 receptions and 800 receiving yards in the team's first
- 9:46Speaker 2: seven games of a season.
- 9:48Speaker 1: He is the best.
- 9:49Speaker 2: We had a conversation on Bomba Stacey today, and I
- 9:52Speaker 2: wrote down all the reasons why he's the best. At
- 9:54Speaker 2: his position, he's by far the best, but the way
- 9:57Speaker 2: he affects a football game is paralleled to none it's
- 10:01Speaker 2: impressive and um he has a teammate who knows a
- 10:05Speaker 2: little bit about putting together a crazy season.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Of course i mean that's that's so wild that's that
- 10:09Speaker 1: jsn joins the cooper cup uh who did in 2021
- 10:12Speaker 1: when he's playing for the rams as the only players
- 10:14Speaker 1: in the super bowl era with 800 plus receiving yards
- 10:17Speaker 1: and eight receiving touchdowns through the first seven games of
- 10:20Speaker 1: the season. They're doing some things that are just out
- 10:23Speaker 1: of this world. And Spoon was on the Sunday Night
- 10:27Speaker 1: Football postgame show, and he's talking about how frustrating it
- 10:30Speaker 1: is for cornerbacks or DBs who are trying to cover
- 10:32Speaker 1: JSN because he has no indicators at all. He said
- 10:36Speaker 1: it all looks the same. He said, you know how
- 10:37Speaker 1: frustrating that is? I get it. I'll put it in practice.
- 10:40Speaker 1: You can ask any DB that they play against. Because
- 10:41Speaker 1: here's the thing, Bump. There's people getting paid a lot
- 10:44Speaker 1: of money. Lots of money. with a lot of football
- 10:46Speaker 1: knowledge that are sitting down at a table in meetings
- 10:49Speaker 1: for an entire week or plus saying, how are we
- 10:50Speaker 1: going to stop this guy? How are we going to
- 10:52Speaker 1: bracket him? How are we going to work with all
- 10:53Speaker 1: this stuff? And he continues week after week to shut
- 10:56Speaker 1: it down. Spagnuolo is a great defensive coach. He is.
- 10:59Speaker 1: One of the best ever. And what happened? Jason is
- 11:03Speaker 1: a different dude. And you know what it is? The
- 11:05Speaker 1: way he runs his routes is not traditional, right?
- 11:09Speaker 2: You look at the way Justin Jefferson runs his routes,
- 11:13Speaker 2: Jamar Chase, Olave.
- 11:15Speaker 1: A Monroe St.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Brown, the top guys, they all have similar styles when
- 11:19Speaker 2: it comes to breaking down and getting out of your routes.
- 11:22Speaker 1: He does it in his own way.
- 11:23Speaker 2: He does it such in his own way that me
- 11:25Speaker 2: and Brian have problems trying to figure out what route
- 11:27Speaker 2: he's running.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Like what route is, what do you call this?
- 11:30Speaker 2: And it's more just, I think when you're that good,
- 11:32Speaker 2: you have the space to kind of not freelance, but
- 11:36Speaker 2: make it your own, make this office your own, make
- 11:38Speaker 2: the routes your own. As long as you and the
- 11:40Speaker 2: quarterback are on the same page, you're good.
- 11:42Speaker 1: He's that guy.
- 11:43Speaker 2: And, um, He might, and I'm not just saying this
- 11:46Speaker 2: because this is a Seahawks podcast, he might change the
- 11:49Speaker 2: way we look at route running completely.
- 11:51Speaker 1: Oh, no question about it. When you watch his next-gen stats,
- 11:55Speaker 1: it kind of shows how the plays are developing. You
- 11:57Speaker 1: watch him, and you'd be like, because in most people's heads,
- 12:00Speaker 1: they're like, okay, here's a post, three feet slant, or
- 12:02Speaker 1: like different routes traditionally on a route tree. He does
- 12:04Speaker 1: it all, and he makes people look bad while doing it.
- 12:07Speaker 1: So JSN, again, continuing to rewrite the record books, and
- 12:10Speaker 1: who knows where this guy's career is going because... Megatron's
- 12:15Speaker 1: in play. Yeah, it is. 2000 is in– he's way
- 12:17Speaker 1: on pace to beat it. I hate to project that
- 12:19Speaker 1: far out, but it's like every week we're like, okay, well,
- 12:22Speaker 1: someone's going to slow him down. Someone's going to slow
- 12:24Speaker 1: him down. I don't know what to say. Jason is
- 12:26Speaker 1: that dude. That dude. Also offensively, Emmanuel Wilson, super happy
- 12:30Speaker 1: for this dude. 24 carries, 100 yards, and a touchdown.
- 12:32Speaker 1: You mentioned earlier that was the first TD run of
- 12:34Speaker 1: 10-plus yards for a Seahawks running back this season. Rasheed
- 12:37Speaker 1: Shaheed had the other long run at 28 yards earlier
- 12:40Speaker 1: this year. Wow. I just love to see it because
- 12:43Speaker 1: that is the type of game for Emmanuel Wilson. If
- 12:46Speaker 1: you want to go eight-minute drill, four-minute drill, run the
- 12:48Speaker 1: clock out, pound the football, that's your dude. Same thing
- 12:52Speaker 1: against Arizona. If you want a closer, Emmanuel Wilson is
- 12:54Speaker 1: that closer for the Seahawks. He's Munoz. You know what
- 12:57Speaker 1: I mean? He's the closer. Munoz of 2025.
- 12:59Speaker 2: Of 2025, yes. Thank you for the clarification. All right,
- 13:02Speaker 2: Tyrese Knight. Had himself a game. Eight tackles, one TFL.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Some big hits, solid tackles. And he got shook the
- 13:11Speaker 2: first play. But bounced back, made some plays, and I
- 13:14Speaker 2: love just the transparency afterwards.
- 13:17Speaker 1: He's talking to Jim Mueller.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Like, yeah, he got me that first play, but I
- 13:20Speaker 2: was back ready to go. And I think this all
- 13:23Speaker 2: stems from preseason. We saw him in preseason. He probably
- 13:27Speaker 2: had the best preseason on this team. And unfortunately for him,
- 13:30Speaker 2: Drake Thomas already established himself. But fortunately for the Seahawks,
- 13:34Speaker 2: you had two backs, LBs, ready to go between Drake
- 13:37Speaker 2: Thomas and Tyrese Knight.
- 13:39Speaker 1: It's time to shine. He did his thing. No, that's
- 13:41Speaker 1: the great thing about the depth at linebacker. The distance
- 13:43Speaker 1: between Tyrese Knight and Drake Thomas is so close that
- 13:47Speaker 1: you have another starting linebacker. If we could start 12,
- 13:50Speaker 1: he'd be the next guy on there. You know what
- 13:52Speaker 1: I'm saying? So great to see that from Tyrese Knight.
- 13:54Speaker 1: Then Ty Okada, primetime Ty is what I'm starting to
- 13:56Speaker 1: call him now. I saw him today, and that's what
- 13:58Speaker 1: I said to him. What did he say? He said, yeah,
- 14:01Speaker 1: you know, he liked it. We'll see. I'm not saying
- 14:02Speaker 1: it's catching on yet, but if he has another interception
- 14:05Speaker 1: in primetime, I said it first.
- 14:06Speaker 3: On Monday.
- 14:06Speaker 1: On Monday. Five tackles, one TFL, one pass offended, one interception.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Wyman said it on the broadcast. That's a generational, man.
- 14:15Speaker 1: When you're done playing this game, people look stuff up.
- 14:18Speaker 1: You picked off Patrick Mahomes. 30 years from now, ain't
- 14:22Speaker 1: no one taking that away from you. And he's just
- 14:24Speaker 1: playing good ball. He does so much more than people
- 14:26Speaker 1: think out there. Obviously, Julian Love is the general back
- 14:28Speaker 1: there making all kinds of calls and plays. But Ty
- 14:30Speaker 1: is incredibly vocal out there in the secondary, and he's
- 14:33Speaker 1: playing good football.
- 14:34Speaker 3: Yeah, man.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Ty's balling. Good dude, too, man. Makes it even better. D.
- 14:37Speaker 2: Hall, three tackles, one TFL, one sack, one interception. He
- 14:40Speaker 2: hit Pat Mahomes so hard, he looked cross-eyed for a
- 14:44Speaker 2: little bit.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Like, D.
- 14:46Speaker 3: Hall.
- 14:48Speaker 2: I was actually in the back end zone when it happened.
- 14:51Speaker 2: And right there, right in front of me, even I went,
- 14:54Speaker 2: it's like, ooh, wee. D. Hall, man, when he gets going,
- 14:58Speaker 2: he's some special violent football player.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Well, and Patrick didn't have any time to brace for that.
- 15:03Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 15:03Speaker 2: So he just got out of nowhere. I promise you
- 15:06Speaker 2: he's feeling that one today. Remember we used to get
- 15:07Speaker 2: blindsided back in the day? Can't do it no more.
- 15:09Speaker 2: That's as close as you're going to get. Blindside hit.
- 15:12Speaker 1: No, that was D Hall doing his thing. Love to
- 15:14Speaker 1: see it there from Seattle defensive line. Quickly, let's look
- 15:17Speaker 1: at the wide receiver roundup. Obviously, it's led by one person. Yep, Jason,
- 15:22Speaker 1: 9 for 150, one touchdown longer, 33. A.J. Barner, good
- 15:25Speaker 1: to see him.
- 15:26Speaker 2: He should have had 5 for 75 or 80 because one.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Maybe a touchdown.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Maybe a touchdown. He was wide open. D-line got his
- 15:33Speaker 2: paws on that football and knocked it down. Cooper Cupp
- 15:35Speaker 2: had a clutch, third down catch, 2 for 20. Eric
- 15:38Speaker 2: Saubert getting to the mix. He had 1 for 17,
- 15:40Speaker 2: little plaques and dump off. He had Wilson with a
- 15:45Speaker 2: recession for 15. Alani had 1 for 12. And Rasheed
- 15:48Speaker 2: just couldn't get going, but he had a couple targets
- 15:50Speaker 2: over there.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Yeah, no, it's, again, until anyone stops JSN, his targets
- 15:57Speaker 1: need to be minimum 10. That's kind of where I'm at.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Production continues to go. Speaking of JSN, we're going to
- 16:02Speaker 1: get into the plays of the game. This was Sam
- 16:04Speaker 1: Darnold connecting with Jackson Smith and Jigba for a 28-yard touchdown.
- 16:08Speaker 3: Look like they want to blitz on third down and nine.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Halani in the backfield blitz is coming. Here's a throw
- 16:13Speaker 1: up over the top. It's caught. It is a touchdown.
- 16:17Speaker 3: No, he's out of bounds at the one Jackson Smith
- 16:20Speaker 3: and jig by an over the shoulder catch on again.
- 16:23Speaker 3: A perfect Sam Darnold drop it in the bucket pass
- 16:26Speaker 3: for 27 yards. We've talked about at times. Where are
- 16:29Speaker 3: the explosives? There is one right there. Seattle first and
- 16:33Speaker 3: goal at the one he beats the blitz. After review,
- 16:38Speaker 3: the receiver completed the catch, and as a result, it's
- 16:40Speaker 3: a touchdown.
- 16:44Speaker 2: This is a, I tweeted about this. I was like,
- 16:47Speaker 2: how dare you? How dare you? Line up, cover zero, Nance.
- 16:52Speaker 2: No safety help, one-on-one. Jason is ISO, and I love
- 16:56Speaker 2: his splits, right? You're ISO to the backside. Go ahead
- 16:59Speaker 2: and tighten up a little bit and give you room
- 17:01Speaker 2: to work on that goal. So the Chiefs are bringing
- 17:05Speaker 2: a house, right? Someone's going to get loose. You bring
- 17:07Speaker 2: this many guys. You're not going to be able to
- 17:09Speaker 2: count for everyone.
- 17:10Speaker 1: Someone's going to leak out of there.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Someone does, but Sam gets the ball out of his
- 17:14Speaker 2: hands quickly because he knows where he wants to go
- 17:16Speaker 2: as soon as he sees the coverage.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Gets back there. Back foot.
- 17:19Speaker 2: Tosses it up over the shoulder. Beautiful catch. And then
- 17:24Speaker 2: we finally have a rule now for this. We have
- 17:26Speaker 2: language now for this, right? Me and B-Walt were in
- 17:29Speaker 2: the booth talking about this. You were there as well.
- 17:32Speaker 2: And As soon as you have possession of the football
- 17:35Speaker 2: and a piece of your foot enters the end zone,
- 17:39Speaker 2: the forever goal line is ignited.
- 17:42Speaker 1: It's activated. It's glowing now.
- 17:45Speaker 2: So you don't have to get two feet in as
- 17:47Speaker 2: long as one of your foot hits the end zone.
- 17:51Speaker 2: Now the ball just has to cross the pylon. So
- 17:54Speaker 2: we got it now. We got to figure it out.
- 17:56Speaker 1: No more confusion. No more confusion. Well, the great thing
- 17:59Speaker 1: about that is, for one, Anytime we're watching the game,
- 18:03Speaker 1: especially when we're in that elevated position watching the booth,
- 18:05Speaker 1: I'm watching. I go, anytime I see, oh, my God,
- 18:07Speaker 1: that single coverage, throw him the ball. I'm sure Sam
- 18:10Speaker 1: looks around and says, okay, I know where it is.
- 18:13Speaker 1: What I liked about that, too, is, like, you said
- 18:15Speaker 1: good blocking up front. I like what I saw from Helani.
- 18:17Speaker 1: He comes across the formation. He has a nice block
- 18:19Speaker 1: to hold up there. The line kind of goes half
- 18:22Speaker 1: for a hat. And, obviously, great catch by Jason. But
- 18:25Speaker 1: it's a dime from Sam. Dime. He needs to get
- 18:28Speaker 1: credit for that because... He doesn't. He needs to get more, man.
- 18:30Speaker 1: He's just playing with confidence, letting it rip. So, love
- 18:32Speaker 1: what we're seeing from Darnold and, of course, Jason.
- 18:35Speaker 3: And.
- 18:36Speaker 1: Good luck to you if you're going to put your corner.
- 18:38Speaker 1: You're talking about people getting put on an island?
- 18:39Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:40Speaker 1: You might as well be put in, I don't know,
- 18:42Speaker 1: Antarctica trying to guard JSN by your lonesome. It's an island.
- 18:45Speaker 1: You know who ain't out there? Revis ain't out there.
- 18:47Speaker 1: He's not. He ain't. He's old. He's retired. He ain't
- 18:50Speaker 1: doing that. He's a Hall of Famer, right? He ain't
- 18:51Speaker 1: in the Hall of Fame yet? I don't think he's
- 18:53Speaker 1: in the Hall of Fame yet, but he's going to be. Anyway, yeah. Anyway,
- 18:55Speaker 1: good stuff by JSN. Our next play of the game,
- 18:58Speaker 1: our guy Emmanuel Wilson gets in for a 21-yard touchdown.
- 19:01Speaker 3: Two tight ends to the near side Wilson gets the
- 19:03Speaker 3: handoff looks for running room he breaks.
- 19:05Speaker 4: Free he's gonna go 10 5 touchdown Seahawks and that
- 19:11Speaker 4: just might be the dagger Emmanuel Wilson behind two tight
- 19:18Speaker 4: ends and a backup tackle. Takes it to the house
- 19:21Speaker 4: off the left side from 21 out. And the Seahawks
- 19:25Speaker 4: stretch their lead to 19-3 over the undefeated, soon not
- 19:31Speaker 4: to be undefeated, Kansas City Chiefs.
- 19:34Speaker 1: It wasn't two tight ends. It was three.
- 19:36Speaker 2: Three tight ends out there. Get off 13 personnel. If
- 19:40Speaker 2: you look at where the linemen are stepping, you're stepping right.
- 19:44Speaker 2: I want to focus on the center and left guard
- 19:47Speaker 2: combo there. You got Sundell and Gray Zabel. That one
- 19:51Speaker 2: tech is between them. And this is what the double
- 19:54Speaker 2: team and climb to linebacker is supposed to look like.
- 19:57Speaker 2: You get that double team, you climb to that backer.
- 19:59Speaker 2: That's the path that Emmanuel is supposed to go, right?
- 20:02Speaker 2: You press that B gap to the right. Left side,
- 20:05Speaker 2: you got your tight ends, all three stepping to the
- 20:06Speaker 2: right side and just washing everything down. So as soon
- 20:10Speaker 2: as that gap is full, the one that is able
- 20:12Speaker 2: to care of beautifully, now Emmanuel Wilson puts his foot
- 20:16Speaker 2: in the ground, and the.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Cutback is there. 89. Is that Callerup?
- 20:20Speaker 2: Callerup 89 seals the end right there. This is where
- 20:24Speaker 2: it's just all hard. Like, forget technique. Get to your
- 20:27Speaker 2: guy in these short yardage situations and just give your
- 20:30Speaker 2: running back a chance to get money.
- 20:32Speaker 1: That's exactly what happened. No, but I love the three
- 20:35Speaker 1: tight ends, right? How often do you get in 13 personnel, right?
- 20:38Speaker 1: One back, three tight ends. Barner had a great block. Yep.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Saubert has a great block. Cowell finishes it off. Yep.
- 20:44Speaker 1: And you talked about he washed everyone down the line
- 20:46Speaker 1: of scrimmage. And also, big ups to Emmanuel Wilson for
- 20:49Speaker 1: patient running. Yep. He could have just ran that thing
- 20:51Speaker 1: up inside, gotten two or three yards, patient enough. That
- 20:54Speaker 1: cutback was there. And it was so wide open that
- 20:56Speaker 1: he didn't get touched. He got in the end zone.
- 20:58Speaker 1: The corner's kind of in no man's land. Am I
- 21:00Speaker 1: going to fill outside? And then it's a dulce road, especially–
- 21:03Speaker 1: cow up getting the safety who comes down so love
- 21:06Speaker 1: what we're seeing there holding things down on the back
- 21:08Speaker 1: side and um the one thing i will say bump
- 21:13Speaker 1: i'm waiting for the other options out of this formation
- 21:16Speaker 1: because i feel like we're tori horton is going to
- 21:19Speaker 1: because when i see this coming out it's a run
- 21:23Speaker 1: and it's been a run almost every time i know
- 21:25Speaker 1: tori had the one touchdown against the chargers i believe
- 21:28Speaker 1: but i don't know i'm telling you this formation isn't
- 21:30Speaker 1: done Flurry's cooking. These guys are playing some good ball.
- 21:33Speaker 1: Love to see it. It was a two-game losing streak,
- 21:37Speaker 1: but we back. We back now. Our favorite formation, victory formation.
- 21:42Speaker 3: Here comes the Seahawks offense onto the field, and the
- 21:44Speaker 3: Vikings defense trudging out there, knowing that one kneel down,
- 21:50Speaker 3: and the Seahawks are going to wind the clock down and.
- 21:53Speaker 1: Win this one. It's the victory formation on Hawk Talk.
- 21:56Speaker 1: Seahawks back in the win column. It was all about
- 21:59Speaker 1: the defensive football, shutting down the league's number one offense,
- 22:02Speaker 1: holding them to just 213 yards. They're averaging over 400
- 22:06Speaker 1: coming into that game. Seahawks held the Chiefs to their
- 22:08Speaker 1: fewest points, three total yards, 213. First down to 11.
- 22:13Speaker 1: Red zone drives, zero in any game started by Patrick Mahomes,
- 22:18Speaker 1: who is a first ballot Hall of Famer, the best
- 22:19Speaker 1: quarterback in this generation. It goes Tom, then Patrick, and
- 22:23Speaker 1: he had his worst day out there ever.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Love to see it. Love to see it. Defense, again,
- 22:30Speaker 2: reminding folks, don't forget about us. Ken Walker, he had
- 22:33Speaker 2: a tough day as well. He was the league leader
- 22:36Speaker 2: when it comes to rushing yards. Bajon got him by
- 22:37Speaker 2: like four yards or something right now, I think. But
- 22:40Speaker 2: 36 yards on 14 carries, 2.8 per clip.
- 22:42Speaker 1: He was averaging almost seven yards, I want to say,
- 22:45Speaker 1: per carry. It was nuts. And then Jason, he just
- 22:49Speaker 1: keeps doing it.
- 22:50Speaker 2: And I talked to a colleague today, and he was like, yeah,
- 22:54Speaker 2: I'm just going to stop praising Jason.
- 22:55Speaker 1: I'm just used to it now. I go, don't ever.
- 22:57Speaker 1: Don't ever take this for granted. This is so hard
- 22:59Speaker 1: to do.
- 23:00Speaker 2: He's been mentioned with Jerry and with Harrison and the
- 23:03Speaker 2: greats out there, and some of the greats haven't done
- 23:06Speaker 2: what he's doing.
- 23:07Speaker 1: Look at T.O., Larry Fitz.
- 23:09Speaker 2: No disrespect to those dudes, but they haven't even put
- 23:13Speaker 2: up the type of numbers he's putting up.
- 23:14Speaker 1: No, he's doing it. When people set out to stop
- 23:18Speaker 1: you as their sole purpose— extra meetings, I can't imagine.
- 23:22Speaker 1: And you still get loose like that? Still get loose.
- 23:24Speaker 1: I mean, Jason is in a world of his own.
- 23:27Speaker 1: And Sam Darnold, again, he's taken a lot of criticism
- 23:30Speaker 1: as of late. I thought he played an amazing game. Yes,
- 23:32Speaker 1: he did have the one mistake, but he's playing with confidence.
- 23:35Speaker 1: He's letting it rip. And that last night, even though
- 23:37Speaker 1: we didn't get into the 30s, that offense looked like
- 23:40Speaker 1: the offense that we saw win a Super Bowl last year. Yeah, man.
- 23:43Speaker 2: That's all you need. Mike McDonald kept saying, we played
- 23:47Speaker 2: Seahawks football. And I'm like, yeah, that's it. Seahawks football is.
- 23:50Speaker 2: stifling defense, explosive plays on offense. Quarterback doesn't have to
- 23:54Speaker 2: do anything crazy, right?
- 23:55Speaker 1: Just be efficient.
- 23:56Speaker 2: I know you had a turnover, but be efficient and
- 23:58Speaker 2: then be a threat in the run game. Cause they
- 24:00Speaker 2: got out that too high safety little real quick. Once
- 24:02Speaker 2: a Wilson started running that ball.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Yeah. When you go a hundred yards and touchdown there,
- 24:06Speaker 1: you out gain the chiefs on the ground, 153 to
- 24:09Speaker 1: 50 final score, 23, but we know TLS dominated throughout.
- 24:13Speaker 1: And this was the chiefs were fortunate that the score
- 24:16Speaker 1: was that close.
- 24:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:18Speaker 1: I think, um, breadcrumbs, but we're seeing it. This is,
- 24:23Speaker 1: we're finally seeing the team that Seahawks can be, have
- 24:25Speaker 1: another huge game, Monday night football, primetime again, third game
- 24:29Speaker 1: in a row bump. We're going to get you ready
- 24:31Speaker 1: for that this week. Coming up on Thursday, Seahawks beat
- 24:34Speaker 1: the Chiefs 20-3. Back, got a game on the 49ers too. Yeah.
- 24:39Speaker 1: So closing in on that 49ers. Thanks ATL. Absolutely appreciate
- 24:42Speaker 1: y'all down there. Anyway, we'll get you ready for that
- 24:44Speaker 1: Bears game. Seahawks beat the Chiefs 23. He's Michael Bumpus.
- 24:47Speaker 1: I'm Nassif Chobi. This has been Hawk Talk.
- 24:55Speaker 3: Thank you.
