- 0:01Speaker 1: Past, we believe that God is writing a new chapter
- 0:05Speaker 1: in your life and in mine in which anxiety is
- 0:09Speaker 1: steadily diminishing and peace is constantly increasing. God has a
- 0:18Speaker 1: remedy for our anxiety, a prescription, and that prescription is
- 0:22Speaker 1: found in the book of Philippians chapter 4. The words
- 0:25Speaker 1: are going to appear on the screen. Some of you
- 0:28Speaker 1: have the passage memorized. I invite you to say the
- 0:31Speaker 1: passage out loud with me. We're working through it phrase
- 0:34Speaker 1: by phrase during the summer. I hope that these words
- 0:38Speaker 1: are helping you understand God's solution for anxiety.
- 0:41Speaker 2: You ready? Sit up straight.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Fill your lungs with air. Fill your hearts with hope.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Say the words like you mean it. If you know
- 0:47Speaker 1: it by memory, close your eyes and see how you do.
- 0:50Speaker 3: Ready?
- 0:51Speaker 2: Rejoice in the Lord always.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Make your requests known to God. And the peace of God,
- 1:13Speaker 1: which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts.
- 1:17Speaker 2: And minds through Christ Jesus.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble,
- 1:26Speaker 1: whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things
- 1:31Speaker 1: are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there
- 1:35Speaker 1: is any virtue, Lord, let these words sink into our
- 1:44Speaker 1: hearts like summer rain on a dry soil, bringing life.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Heavenly Father, grant us us the skill, the spiritual skill
- 1:57Speaker 1: to deal with anxiety. We'd know, Lord, that anxiety comes
- 2:01Speaker 1: with life, but it doesn't have to take our lives.
- 2:04Speaker 1: And so, Heavenly Father, we pray that we could rejoice
- 2:07Speaker 1: in you, that our gentleness could be evident to everybody,
- 2:11Speaker 1: we could be aware of your presence, that we could
- 2:13Speaker 1: make all our requests known to you through prayer and
- 2:16Speaker 1: supplication with thanksgiving in our hearts, and that we could
- 2:19Speaker 1: anticipate the peace of God That surpasses all understanding. And
- 2:23Speaker 1: that we would meditate upon the things. Upon which you
- 2:26Speaker 1: want us to meditate. Thank you Lord. Forgive our speaker.
- 2:30Speaker 1: His sins are many. And help us to see Christ.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Just Jesus. Through Christ we pray. And all the church said. Amen.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Well the next time you find yourselves. Discussing the unsung heroes.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Who have saved the world. Put this name on your list.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Vasili Arkhipov. In 1962, Varsily Arkhipov was the chief of
- 2:55Speaker 1: staff for four Russian submarines that came within a trigger
- 3:01Speaker 1: squeeze of destroying the world. The four vessels were a
- 3:06Speaker 1: part of the Soviet Northern Fleet. And they set sail
- 3:10Speaker 1: in 1962 under the cloak of secrecy. The Soviet commanders
- 3:15Speaker 1: gave each submarine captain a set of secret instructions that
- 3:19Speaker 1: he was to open up only at sea. The crews
- 3:25Speaker 1: assumed that they were being sent on a training mission
- 3:29Speaker 1: off the Siberian coast. They were to learn that they
- 3:33Speaker 1: were actually directed to race 5,000 miles to the southwest
- 3:38Speaker 1: to protect the city of Havana, Cuba. The next three
- 3:46Speaker 1: weeks tested the resolve of the saltiest of the sailors.
- 3:50Speaker 1: In order to move quickly, the subs traveled on the
- 3:53Speaker 1: surface of the water and they sailed right into Hurricane Daisy.
- 3:58Speaker 1: 50-foot waves left the men nauseated and the operating systems compromised.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Then came the warm water. These subs were designed for
- 4:10Speaker 1: the polar waters off the coast of Russia. They were
- 4:14Speaker 1: not prepared for these tropical climates. They did not have
- 4:19Speaker 1: cooling systems adequate to maintain a comfortable temperature. Consequently, some
- 4:24Speaker 1: of the subs reached temperatures inside of 120 degrees. Crewmen
- 4:32Speaker 1: battled the heat, claustrophobia. And by the time they drew
- 4:36Speaker 1: near to the coast of Cuba, you could say they
- 4:39Speaker 1: were anxious. They were troubled. There was stress everywhere. Then
- 4:45Speaker 1: came the unexplained and cryptic instructions from Moscow, not to
- 4:49Speaker 1: protect the city of Havana, but to patrol, of all things,
- 4:54Speaker 1: the coast of Florida. They entered American waters, and as
- 4:58Speaker 1: soon as they did, the American fleet came down upon them.
- 5:03Speaker 1: On October 27th, they realized they were surrounded by a
- 5:07Speaker 1: dozen American ships, and they had to make a decision.
- 5:12Speaker 1: the Americans began setting off depth charges. The Russians thought
- 5:18Speaker 1: they were under attack.
- 5:19Speaker 2: This is when the captain lost his control.
- 5:22Speaker 1: The Soviet captain of the four submarines gathered his officers
- 5:28Speaker 1: in his quarters and he made an announcement that went
- 5:32Speaker 1: like this. We are going to blast them now. We
- 5:38Speaker 1: will not disgrace our Navy. What the Americans did not
- 5:43Speaker 1: know about these four submarines, and what I have not
- 5:47Speaker 1: told you, I've been saving it for now, is that
- 5:51Speaker 1: each of these four submarines carried a nuclear warhead. Each
- 5:58Speaker 1: warhead sufficient enough to blow up an American city. The
- 6:05Speaker 1: captain gave the command to launch the warheads just miles
- 6:10Speaker 1: from the Florida coast Had it not been for Vasily Arkhipov,
- 6:18Speaker 1: who knows what would have happened. But he spoke up. Remember,
- 6:21Speaker 1: he was the chief of staff. He invited the captain
- 6:24Speaker 1: to step to the side. Vasily Arkhipov is remembered as
- 6:28Speaker 1: a slightly older man, soft-spoken, well-respected. He asked for a
- 6:33Speaker 1: few minutes with his superior. And with all respect, he
- 6:37Speaker 1: asked him to reconsider the command that he had just given.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Wouldn't it be wise for us to see what the
- 6:43Speaker 1: Americans have in mind. And he convinced the superior to
- 6:49Speaker 1: allow the ships, the submarines to come to the surface.
- 6:53Speaker 1: And there they were greeted by the Americans. They weren't
- 6:57Speaker 1: taken captive. In fact, we will never know what the
- 7:01Speaker 1: Americans intended to do because within a few hours the
- 7:04Speaker 1: submarines dove and were able to slip back out and
- 7:08Speaker 1: go all the way back to Russia where this story
- 7:10Speaker 1: was kept under wraps until 2002. And more than one
- 7:17Speaker 1: historian has hailed our keep off as an unsung hero.
- 7:24Speaker 1: the director of the National Security Archives said, the lesson
- 7:29Speaker 1: from this event is that a guy named Vasily Arkhipov
- 7:33Speaker 1: saved the world. Now, why do I tell you this story?
- 7:39Speaker 1: You're not going to spend three weeks in a sweltering
- 7:42Speaker 1: Russian sub, but you may spend three months carrying a
- 7:48Speaker 1: heavy load in a semester. You may spend a difficult
- 7:51Speaker 1: year sailing into the Difficult winds of a difficult economic
- 7:58Speaker 1: situation you may spend months at the bedside of a
- 8:03Speaker 1: sick child or an aging parent you may spend a
- 8:07Speaker 1: series of weeks battling the sense of anxiety and You
- 8:14Speaker 1: will be tempted to press the button Not on a
- 8:17Speaker 1: nuclear warhead but.
- 8:20Speaker 2: On your anger.
- 8:23Speaker 1: On your emotions You will be tempted to release into
- 8:28Speaker 1: the atmosphere a series of accusations or bitterness or anger.
- 8:34Speaker 1: And you could possibly do harm to others as a
- 8:39Speaker 1: result of your anxiety that has gone unchecked. I wonder
- 8:43Speaker 1: how many of you have suffered at the hands of
- 8:46Speaker 1: someone's unbridled.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Anxiety.
- 8:53Speaker 1: And I wonder how many disasters have been averted because
- 8:58Speaker 1: somebody like this unsung hero was able to keep their
- 9:06Speaker 1: calm while the rest of the world was losing theirs.
- 9:11Speaker 1: The apostle Paul has a phrase for this ability. In fact,
- 9:15Speaker 1: if you'd like to fill in the blanks, we're going
- 9:17Speaker 1: to look at the.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Exhortation of Paul.
- 9:22Speaker 1: He urges us to be Contagiously calm, contagiously calm. Let
- 9:31Speaker 1: your gentleness be made evident to all. This word gentle
- 9:39Speaker 1: literally means level-headedness, clear thinking, under control. not a person
- 9:49Speaker 1: of panic. The opposite would be the one who overreacts,
- 9:53Speaker 1: who flies off the handle. The idea here is of
- 9:58Speaker 1: a person who reacts in a calm fashion in a
- 10:02Speaker 1: difficult season.
- 10:04Speaker 2: It's a calmness, a tranquility.
- 10:08Speaker 1: And the apostle says, let your gentleness be made evident
- 10:12Speaker 1: to all. In other words, let your life issue a
- 10:16Speaker 1: calm spirit that people notice. Don't we love the person
- 10:21Speaker 1: who is contagiously calm? Just as fear is contagious, so
- 10:27Speaker 1: is tranquility. And you love that person at work who
- 10:32Speaker 1: always keeps a cool head while everybody's losing theirs. You
- 10:35Speaker 1: love that person in the football huddle who says, now.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Let's just settle down, guys. We'll be okay.
- 10:41Speaker 1: You love that person at school who says, I know
- 10:43Speaker 1: the principal's in a bad mood, but we're going to
- 10:45Speaker 1: be all right. You love that person who steadies the ship,
- 10:50Speaker 1: who calms everything down, who settles the family down, who
- 10:55Speaker 1: settles the company down. This is the person who carries
- 10:59Speaker 1: a spirit of contagious calm. Just as fear is contagious,
- 11:04Speaker 1: so is faith. So I'm hoping that you'll catch a
- 11:08Speaker 1: case of faith and that you'll spread it everywhere you go.
- 11:14Speaker 1: this contagious calm. So where do you catch a case
- 11:18Speaker 1: of calmness? Well, the apostle says you catch it as
- 11:22Speaker 1: you come to understand that the Lord is near. These
- 11:26Speaker 1: two phrases work hand in hand, right? Let your gentleness
- 11:31Speaker 1: be made evident to all.
- 11:33Speaker 2: The Lord is near.
- 11:34Speaker 1: So as we come to an understanding of the presence
- 11:37Speaker 1: of God, there is a calmness that happens. Oftentimes, when
- 11:43Speaker 1: we find ourselves in seasons of anxiety, we assume that
- 11:47Speaker 1: God is not near. Or if God is near, He
- 11:50Speaker 1: doesn't care. We interpret the presence of problems as the
- 11:55Speaker 1: absence of God. That's mistake number one. It's the most
- 11:58Speaker 1: common mistake. When you're lying in a hospital room, when
- 12:01Speaker 1: you're walking into a divorce court, when you're dealing with
- 12:05Speaker 1: a season of stress, you're assuming that God is not near.
- 12:10Speaker 1: that creates then a cycle of anxiety. Because number one,
- 12:14Speaker 1: you have the problem. And then number two, you got
- 12:16Speaker 1: to face it by yourself. It's one thing to have
- 12:19Speaker 1: the problem, but to be all alone with the problem,
- 12:22Speaker 1: that makes things worse. And so a cycle, a downward spiral.
- 12:27Speaker 1: of anxiety is created where I've got a problem, I
- 12:31Speaker 1: got to fix it. I got a problem, I got
- 12:33Speaker 1: to fix it. And down and down and down you go.
- 12:36Speaker 1: So the apostle anticipating this says, now you be the
- 12:40Speaker 1: person who has this tranquility that others notice. Let your
- 12:44Speaker 1: gentleness be made evident to all because the Lord is near.
- 12:49Speaker 1: You're the one who says, well, God's with us. God's
- 12:53Speaker 1: still here. My friends have left, my health has left,
- 12:56Speaker 1: my youth has left, but my God has not left.
- 12:59Speaker 1: It's this resolve, this belief that I'm going to trust
- 13:04Speaker 1: the presence of God. I think this is why that
- 13:07Speaker 1: theme of God's presence is so pervasive in the Bible.
- 13:11Speaker 1: I mean, we're barely into the book of Genesis and
- 13:14Speaker 1: we're seeing God come and walk in the garden with
- 13:18Speaker 1: Adam and Eve and We're hearing comments like this from
- 13:21Speaker 1: God to Abraham. God said, do not be afraid, Abram.
- 13:25Speaker 1: I'm your shield, your exceedingly great reward. When Hagar and
- 13:29Speaker 1: her son Ishmael were banished from Abraham's land, an angel
- 13:33Speaker 1: told her, don't be afraid.
- 13:34Speaker 2: God has heard.
- 13:36Speaker 1: When Isaac was expelled, God said, don't be afraid.
- 13:39Speaker 2: I am with you.
- 13:40Speaker 1: When Jacob was afraid, God said, don't be afraid to
- 13:43Speaker 1: go to Egypt. I will make you a great nation there.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Over and over we see this theme. Don't be afraid.
- 13:49Speaker 2: I am with you.
- 13:50Speaker 1: To Joshua, God said, do not be afraid. Don't be
- 13:53Speaker 1: discouraged for the Lord your God will be with you
- 13:55Speaker 1: wherever you go. This is the recurring theme. And isn't
- 14:00Speaker 1: this the announcement of Bethlehem where God became flesh and
- 14:06Speaker 1: He took on the name Jesus Christ, but he also said,
- 14:09Speaker 1: and you can call me Emmanuel, which means God with us.
- 14:15Speaker 1: His nickname is God's in the neighborhood. God is with us.
- 14:20Speaker 1: God is next door. And then before his crucifixion, he said,
- 14:24Speaker 1: I must leave so that the Holy Spirit can come.
- 14:28Speaker 1: And the Holy Spirit will not only be near you,
- 14:30Speaker 1: he will be where? In you for all time. So
- 14:36Speaker 1: central to the promise of God is this theme that
- 14:39Speaker 1: you will never be where God is not. Would you
- 14:42Speaker 1: receive that right now, please? Just let that sink down
- 14:45Speaker 1: in your heart and tell yourself, I'll never be where
- 14:48Speaker 1: God is not, no matter where I go.
- 14:52Speaker 2: No matter how frightening the flight might be.
- 14:54Speaker 1: No matter how dark the hospital room might be, no
- 14:58Speaker 1: matter how quiet the.
- 14:59Speaker 2: Room might be, I am never where God is not.
- 15:03Speaker 2: God is there.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Now you just kind of let that sink in. Let
- 15:06Speaker 1: that become a defining part of who you are. The
- 15:11Speaker 1: psalmist said, the Lord is with me. I will not
- 15:14Speaker 1: be afraid. What can mere.
- 15:16Speaker 2: Mortals do to me?
- 15:18Speaker 1: Once you realize that the Lord is with you, that's
- 15:21Speaker 1: a game changer, right? That changes everything. God's message is
- 15:26Speaker 1: the same. It's not up to you. Now, what's interesting
- 15:30Speaker 1: is how easy it is for us to miss this message.
- 15:33Speaker 1: And I think that is the point of one of
- 15:35Speaker 1: my favorite stories in the Bible. And that is the
- 15:38Speaker 1: story of Philip. So we're moving from Paul's exhortation to
- 15:44Speaker 1: Philip's exhortation.
- 15:45Speaker 2: Calculation. Calculation.
- 15:48Speaker 1: Philip is the fellow in the Bible who counted the coins,
- 15:51Speaker 1: but he didn't count on Christ.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Here's his story.
- 15:54Speaker 1: He was there the day that Jesus told the disciples
- 15:58Speaker 1: to feed thousands of people.
- 16:01Speaker 2: It's in the book of John.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Jesus lifted up his eyes and seeing a great multitude
- 16:07Speaker 1: coming toward him, he said to Philip, where shall we
- 16:10Speaker 1: buy bread that these may eat? But he said this
- 16:14Speaker 1: to test him for he himself already knew what he
- 16:18Speaker 1: would do.
- 16:19Speaker 2: This was a crowd, we're later to.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Read, of 5,000 men plus women and children. If you're
- 16:25Speaker 1: watching the game tonight that has teams that don't include
- 16:29Speaker 1: the San Antonio Spurs, but look around, you'll see 15,000
- 16:34Speaker 1: people in that arena. That's about how many people were
- 16:37Speaker 1: standing before the disciples.
- 16:39Speaker 2: They had anxious faces. They had growling stomachs.
- 16:42Speaker 1: So Jesus turned to the disciples and said, Where are
- 16:46Speaker 1: we going to get food to feed these people? He
- 16:50Speaker 1: specifically spoke to Philip. And he did this to test Philip.
- 16:56Speaker 1: To develop a skill within Philip. To reveal something to
- 16:59Speaker 1: Philip about Philip.
- 17:01Speaker 2: Why Philip?
- 17:04Speaker 1: Well, Philip seems to be the calculating guy. He's the
- 17:07Speaker 1: bottom line pragmatist. He's the fellow who always consulted the
- 17:12Speaker 1: resources and made the decisions. Because we know this because
- 17:15Speaker 1: of what he said. Philip answered him, 200 denarii worth
- 17:20Speaker 1: of bread is not sufficient for them that everyone may
- 17:23Speaker 1: have a little. 200 denarii. One coin was called a denarius.
- 17:27Speaker 1: So this is plural for denarius. So 200 denarii is
- 17:32Speaker 1: not enough. Where did he get that number?
- 17:34Speaker 2: I don't know. Could be he just pulled it out
- 17:37Speaker 2: of the air. Or it could very well be that's
- 17:39Speaker 2: how much money they had.
- 17:41Speaker 1: That he went and he looked in the purse and
- 17:43Speaker 1: he said, well, okay, we got 200 coins.
- 17:45Speaker 2: That's not going to get us very far.
- 17:48Speaker 1: And so when Jesus says, now where are we going
- 17:51Speaker 1: to get the food to feed all these people? Philip,
- 17:54Speaker 1: the pragmatist, goes and he looks in the bank account.
- 17:58Speaker 1: He opens the purse. He opens the wallet and he
- 18:02Speaker 1: counts the money. He looks to the resources that they
- 18:07Speaker 1: have and he says, we don't have enough. His friends
- 18:12Speaker 1: agreed with him. Because according to Matthew. All of the
- 18:17Speaker 1: disciples got together. And they came to Jesus. And they
- 18:21Speaker 1: said this. Now send the crowds away. Send them away.
- 18:26Speaker 2: So that they can go to the villages.
- 18:28Speaker 1: And buy themselves food. Tell them just to leave. We
- 18:32Speaker 1: can't solve this problem. Send them away. How respectful does
- 18:37Speaker 1: that sound to you? They don't say master. They don't
- 18:41Speaker 1: say we have a suggestion. No. They don't say, well,
- 18:45Speaker 1: we discussed it. We do have one idea. They come
- 18:48Speaker 1: to him in mass with a very grumpy spirit. At
- 18:51Speaker 1: least it seems to me. And they say, now here's
- 18:54Speaker 1: what you need to do, Jesus. And they tell the
- 18:59Speaker 1: Son of God how to handle a problem. Send them away.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Tell them to get lost. We've looked at our provisions.
- 19:08Speaker 1: We've looked at the problem. There aren't enough provisions to
- 19:12Speaker 1: handle the problem. So take this problem and tell them
- 19:17Speaker 1: to leave. If we could interview Philip, I would like
- 19:24Speaker 1: to ask him one question. I would say, Philip, on
- 19:28Speaker 1: that day in which you were responding to this question
- 19:32Speaker 1: from Jesus, did it ever occur to you to ask
- 19:35Speaker 1: Jesus to help? Did it ever occur to you to say, well, Jesus,
- 19:43Speaker 1: where shall we get food?
- 19:45Speaker 2: I don't know, but I bet you do. I bet
- 19:50Speaker 2: this isn't a problem.
- 19:51Speaker 1: Did it occur to you to take this problem and
- 19:55Speaker 1: give it back to Christ? And just say, would you
- 19:59Speaker 1: mind helping us solve this? Because by this point in
- 20:05Speaker 1: their history with Jesus, they had seen him do some
- 20:09Speaker 1: remarkable things. I made a list of what they have seen.
- 20:13Speaker 1: By this point, they have seen Jesus heal lepers, heal
- 20:17Speaker 1: the centurion's servant. heal Peter's mother-in-law, calm a violent sea,
- 20:23Speaker 1: heal a paralytic, heal a woman who had been sick
- 20:26Speaker 1: for 12 years, raise a girl from the dead, drive
- 20:30Speaker 1: out an evil spirit, heal a demon-possessed man in a cemetery,
- 20:34Speaker 1: cast an evil spirit out of a boy, change water
- 20:38Speaker 1: into wine, heal a man who had been an invalid
- 20:40Speaker 1: for 38 years. And these are just the things we're told.
- 20:46Speaker 1: Do you think that would be a reasonable question to
- 20:49Speaker 1: ask Philip? Philip, you've seen all of these things. Did
- 20:53Speaker 1: it occur to you or any of the apostles to say, well, hmm,
- 20:58Speaker 1: what if we go.
- 20:59Speaker 2: Ask Jesus.
- 21:02Speaker 1: To handle these people? Maybe he has a solution that
- 21:06Speaker 1: we have not seen. The stunning answer is that not
- 21:11Speaker 1: one of the disciples asked Jesus for help. He was
- 21:16Speaker 1: standing right there. They could reach out and touch him.
- 21:22Speaker 1: They could talk to him. They could kneel before him.
- 21:25Speaker 1: They could ask him questions. But not a single one
- 21:29Speaker 1: of them asked Jesus for help. Instead, when they had
- 21:33Speaker 1: a problem, they, instead of consulting Christ, counted their coins.
- 21:40Speaker 1: And they counted one, two, three, four. We've got 200
- 21:43Speaker 1: of them here.
- 21:43Speaker 2: That's not enough.
- 21:45Speaker 1: This problem cannot be solved. The maker of the heavens
- 21:49Speaker 1: and earth is standing right here. And yet they're counting
- 21:52Speaker 1: their coins.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Sometimes you.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Just got to think Jesus, it was all he could
- 22:00Speaker 1: do to control himself. Well, a boy shows up with
- 22:04Speaker 1: a basket of food. And so Jesus just takes over.
- 22:08Speaker 1: Jesus said, have the people sit down. There was plenty
- 22:12Speaker 1: of grass in that place, and they sat. About 5,000
- 22:15Speaker 1: men were there, and they took the loaves, gave thanks,
- 22:18Speaker 1: and distributed to those who were seated as much as
- 22:21Speaker 1: they wanted.
- 22:22Speaker 2: He did the same with the fish.
- 22:24Speaker 1: When they all had enough to eat, he said to
- 22:26Speaker 1: his disciples, Gather the pieces that are left over. Let
- 22:29Speaker 1: nothing be wasted. So they gathered them, and they filled
- 22:34Speaker 1: how many baskets?
- 22:36Speaker 2: Twelve baskets. How many apostles were there, by the way? Hmm.
- 22:42Speaker 1: With pieces of the five barley loaves left over by
- 22:46Speaker 1: those who had eaten. I wonder if every apostle got
- 22:49Speaker 1: a souvenir basket that day to take home.
- 22:54Speaker 2: A basket full of the food they said they did
- 22:56Speaker 2: not have.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Not one penny was spent. They started the day with
- 23:03Speaker 1: 200 coins, ended the day with 200 coins. Turns out
- 23:07Speaker 1: that Philip's formula was inaccurate. Turns out that Philip forgot
- 23:15Speaker 1: the first thing that Philip should have done. But we
- 23:17Speaker 1: learn a lesson as a result. And that is your
- 23:21Speaker 1: first step when you have a problem that's bigger than you.
- 23:25Speaker 2: Consult Christ. Consult Christ. Here's the application. Begin with God.
- 23:34Speaker 2: Begin with God.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Now you're not You're not feeding 15,000 people, but you
- 23:40Speaker 1: may have a deadline in about two days that's got
- 23:43Speaker 1: you sucked under. You're not feeding 15,000 people, but you
- 23:48Speaker 1: may be dealing with a cranky boss or a job
- 23:51Speaker 1: situation that's impossible. You're not feeding 15,000 people, but you
- 23:57Speaker 1: may be married to someone who's in hormonal free fall
- 24:00Speaker 1: or to a man who can't resist temptation. You may
- 24:04Speaker 1: be dealing with an issue in your family that you
- 24:07Speaker 1: cannot solve. Some of you have been carrying and facing
- 24:12Speaker 1: a problem all your life. And right now, please hear
- 24:18Speaker 1: me right now. The Holy Spirit is saying, I will
- 24:22Speaker 1: carry that if you'll bring it to me.
- 24:25Speaker 2: I will help you deal with that.
- 24:28Speaker 1: You were not made to carry that problem by yourself.
- 24:31Speaker 1: You were not made to bear that burden by yourself.
- 24:34Speaker 1: I will help you carry it if you will give
- 24:38Speaker 1: it to me. I can think of only one possible
- 24:44Speaker 1: way that Philip could have correctly answered that question from Jesus.
- 24:48Speaker 1: Where are we going to get food for all these people?
- 24:52Speaker 2: And that is, I don't know. I really don't know.
- 24:58Speaker 1: But I know this. I know you can. I have
- 25:01Speaker 1: seen what you can do. I have seen what you
- 25:04Speaker 1: can create. I have seen the way you can talk
- 25:07Speaker 1: to a storm and call forth the dead. I have
- 25:10Speaker 1: seen you at work and I'm going to trust you.
- 25:12Speaker 1: You tell me what to do, Jesus, I'll do it.
- 25:14Speaker 1: There is a bakery down the street. I don't know,
- 25:17Speaker 1: maybe they can do something. You send me there, do
- 25:19Speaker 1: the work, I'll collect it. But I'm going to trust
- 25:21Speaker 1: you because I don't think you would give me a
- 25:23Speaker 1: job without giving me capacity to do it. You tell
- 25:26Speaker 1: me to do it, then I believe you're going to
- 25:28Speaker 1: make provisions and I'm going to trust you for those provisions.
- 25:32Speaker 1: I think had Philip said that, he would have passed
- 25:34Speaker 1: the test. Is God testing you? What's your problem? What
- 25:46Speaker 1: are your provisions? Do you have a problem that is
- 25:51Speaker 1: greater than your provisions? If you do, now you know
- 25:54Speaker 1: what to do. Rather than say, I don't have the
- 25:58Speaker 1: provisions for the problem. I don't have patience for the people.
- 26:03Speaker 1: I don't have wisdom for the question. I don't have
- 26:05Speaker 1: a solution for the challenge. Rather than focus on what
- 26:09Speaker 1: you don't have, turn your attention to the one person
- 26:12Speaker 1: who is near. And let your gentleness be made evident
- 26:16Speaker 1: to all because God is near. Our first response in
- 26:22Speaker 1: a season of anxiety is to say, Lord, make me
- 26:26Speaker 1: aware of your presence and I trust you. And when
- 26:30Speaker 1: we do that, who knows, we may go home with
- 26:32Speaker 1: 12 baskets of blessings that we didn't know existed.
- 26:36Speaker 2: Amen.
- 26:37Speaker 1: Lord, would you please help us to receive your teaching
- 26:40Speaker 1: today in such a way Thank you.
- 27:24Speaker 2: Thank you. Thank you.
- 29:42Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 30:14Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 30:17Speaker 3: For watching.
- 31:32Speaker 1: You Thank you.
- 32:42Speaker 3: You don't have to stay close. As long as you're
- 32:55Speaker 3: somewhere out there, that's enough for me.
- 33:00Speaker 4: I don't need to hold you near me.
- 33:07Speaker 3: Don't need promises to keep. Just the thought that you
- 33:12Speaker 3: are breathing Somewhere in this world I see Even if
- 33:18Speaker 3: I'm not beside you Even if you never know There's
- 33:24Speaker 3: a quiet kind of comfort Just in knowing you still
- 33:29Speaker 3: glow I don't need forever I just need you to exist.
- 33:42Speaker 4: You don't have to stay with me.
- 33:46Speaker 3: You don't have to feel the same.
- 33:49Speaker 4: Just as long as you're still out there.
- 33:53Speaker 3: Calling softly through my days.
- 33:56Speaker 4: You don't have to look my way.
- 33:59Speaker 3: You don't have to be my home. It's enough to
- 34:04Speaker 3: know you're living in a world I'm not alone. I
- 34:13Speaker 3: won't chase you through the distance. Won't disturb your chosen life.
- 34:19Speaker 3: I'll just keep you in my silence like a star
- 34:23Speaker 3: that shines at night. Through the dark and through the blue.
- 34:34Speaker 5: I still think of you. You don't have to be
- 34:43Speaker 5: my home. It's enough to know you're living in a
- 34:47Speaker 5: world I'm not alone. Still alive.
- 35:35Speaker 4: You don't have to stay with me You don't have
- 35:40Speaker 4: to feel the same Just as long as you're still
- 35:45Speaker 4: out there Calling softly through my days You don't have
- 35:50Speaker 4: to look my way You don't have to be my
- 35:55Speaker 4: home It's enough to know you're living
- 36:02Speaker 3: In a world I'm not alone
