- 0:02SPEAKER_00: Hi, I'm Kate Dreston and welcome to Kate's Devotional Podcast.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: I drop my podcast every Wednesday.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: It's always a five minute or less devotional to bring you encouragement as we try to live our lives according to the Bible.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: So glad you're here.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: We're going to talk today about four ways that God's love changes us.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: Now remember when you were first learning about how a caterpillar turned into a butterfly?
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: It's pretty cool.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: The caterpillar makes the cocoon around itself and it stays there for about two weeks, and then when it's time, breaks out of that shell and flies away.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: It's pretty amazing, because a caterpillar looks nothing like a butterfly.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: So the transformation is pretty incredible.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: The Bible talks about another kind of incredible transformation, but it's not about animals.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: It's about people.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: 2 Corinthians 5-17 tells us when we give our hearts to Christ, we become a new creation, that God changes us from the inside out.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: We are filled with the Holy Spirit, and so we may not look different on the outside, but His love transforms us in the very deepest part of our souls.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: Now we don′t even react to people or situations like we did before because we were a different person then.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: And once we′re changed with God′s love, we act differently, we respond differently.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: So I′m going to give you 4 ways that His love changes us.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: 1.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: God′s love compels us to love each other.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: John 1334 says, and I'm going to read out of the New King James Version, it says, A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: So God's love makes us want to serve others, want to love others.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: You know, jealousy, bitterness, hatred, they no longer have a home in our hearts because it's replaced with the compassion and empathy as we desire to care about each other.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: Number two,
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: God’s love allows us to forgive each other.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: Matthew 18 verses 21 and 22 says, And then Peter came to him and said, Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him?
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: Up to seven times?
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: Jesus said to him, I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: You know, God instructs us to be generous with our forgiveness.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: But as you know, that is sometimes really hard.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: 3.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: God’s Love Makes Us Want to Share the Gospel with Others Acts 1-8 says But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be my witnesses to me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: When you get saved, your life is impacted in such a way that you want others to know and experience the gift of salvation that you've been given.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: You want to show others the way.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: It's like you hold the life preserver for all these drowning people.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: You have the answer to the problem.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: They need to find God.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: So God's love makes us want to share the gospel with others.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: 4.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: God's love provides peace for our souls.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: Isaiah 26 says, You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: So God provides perfect peace that goes beyond our understanding.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: Because regardless of our circumstances, we always have that calm assurance in our spirit that comes from God.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: These are only just a few of the many changes that God does in our hearts once we are saved.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: There are so many, and there are so many great things that happen.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: Friends, I want us to have a renewed sense of purpose and commitment to serving Him today as the Holy Spirit renews our minds.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: And I'm going to leave you with the Bible verse that talks about renewing our minds.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: It's found in Romans 12 verses 1 and 2.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: I beseech you, therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: Ah, good words for today.
