- 0:47[SPEAKER_01]: Hey everybody, Brian Smith here with the I&Team series and your daily influence.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_01]: And today I am going to talk about AI, artificial intelligence, automation, how it's affecting us in the workforce and how you might help prepare yourself in your teams for what quite literally is the wild west.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's like the internet back in 1998, 1999, 2000.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_01]: all over again on steroids, preparing yourself for this and leaning into it intentionally instead of waiting and seeing being reactive basically just understanding it better and how to embrace it in a way that can make it more comfortable for you and for your teams.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_01]: For us at IA,
- 1:42[SPEAKER_01]: you know, we talk about how to improve the value of our organization, improve what we do using technology.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, technology has been around now for a long time.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_01]: It's not like this is a surprise that we're seeing these new things come about, the growth.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_01]: and the lean into technology has been on this hyper-fast growth scale.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_01]: And we've seen this continuously, but this new AI technology offers us some opportunities to leverage our own human skill sets and make them better.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_01]: These technologies don't think for themselves, they require us to help them work properly.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_01]: Understand your unique value within your organization and how technology can help enhance that value.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_01]: How you can use technology to enhance your skills and enhance your creativity.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_01]: quicken your critical thinking, use these tool sets to critically think deeper.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_01]: You can actually use these systems, which are faster, to slow you down, to ask more questions.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: Instead of trying to get things done faster and just do twice as much, how about you use these systems to dig a little deeper?
- 3:05[SPEAKER_01]: Formulate questions that you can ask this technology to help you to understand layers deeper information so that you can make better decisions or the now and for the future.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_01]: Have empathy for your teammates who are struggling with it.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_01]: Help them to lean into the technology, share with them your successes and your failures.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_01]: I learning about the failures you have using technology, we can improve, encourage your team to see AI not as a threat, but as that tool and that when you combine it with each person's individual strength, your organization's strengths.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_01]: You'll amplify their individual impact and also you come up with some pretty innovative things.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_01]: We have learned how to use AI to help us analyze our clients' businesses better.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_01]: How to understand the differences between human interactions in a newer way.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: it provides us some nuances we might not have thought about.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_01]: It helps us slow down in articulate questions about the problems we're facing in a better way.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't solve the problems for us.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_01]: It just makes us think more intentionally about them and ask the questions in ways that we might not have asked them in the past.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_01]: And if you've been listening to us for a long time, you knew this was coming.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to lean into smart.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_01]: If you're going to implement any kind of technology, I don't care if it's AI or any other automation, be smart about it.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_01]: Utilize the smart management principles.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_01]: Just strategically integrate technology into your business and your business processes.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_01]: Set those clear specific goals.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_01]: Have defined measurements.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_01]: Understand the attainability of what you're trying to do with technology and the
- 4:59[SPEAKER_01]: Look, humans break technology.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_01]: Technology is said it has very structured ways if you don't understand that structure before you implement it, then you might not have chosen the right technology.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_01]: Make sure you align the technology structure, the way that it works, it's workflow, the way it collects data, the way it distributes data, into your organization, into the way that you communicate.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_01]: And if it's going to change the way that you work, if it changes your workflow, your business process, if it changes the way you communicate with each other, make sure you're prepared for that be specific about those things.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_01]: Be realistic about it and understand the time it's going to take to implement technology.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_01]: Because no technology can be put into place without an investment of time and it will not enhance productivity up front.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_01]: There's going to be a learning curve, it's a disruption to integrate new technology into your organization.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_01]: If you don't share that clearly with your team, you're already on the wrong side of the project.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_01]: You are setting yourself up for human frustration, which will put the entire project at risk.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_01]: An AI technology is a partner in achieving business vision and objectives.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_01]: and make data-driven decisions.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_01]: Make sure that they support growth or add value to your organization or to your team.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_01]: And then it empowers your team to work better, to work smarter, to work more cohesively together, to lean into each other.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_01]: and that they understand how each one is using it.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_01]: It's not there to replace humans, it's there to enhance humans, it's a tool, just like a pencil, just like a current computer is.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_01]: It's not there to replace people and it never should be.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_01]: In sharing with each other what your plans are, technology provides for us an opportunity to continuously learn and continuously improve.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_01]: together using like systems with like business processes that add structure that make us better, that make us predictable when working with each other, that give us something to fall back into to lean into.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_01]: It provides opportunities for us to have structured, smart upskilling, and reskilling.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_01]: As technology grows and adds more enhancements, we can learn together consistently across the entire organization.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_01]: Within our areas of influence in that organization, and have that open mindset, prepare your team for the impacts.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: Good and bad, because with new technology, you will have struggles.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_01]: You will have people who struggle,
- 7:36[SPEAKER_01]: you will have processes that struggle, things will break, information will not reach where it's supposed to, or when it does, it won't be understood like it was in the past.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_01]: If you anticipate that ahead of time, if you understand that specifically ahead of time, if you've been smart in planning, then as you go tactical, you can anticipate the struggles you're going to have.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_01]: And when you do that,
- 8:01[SPEAKER_01]: When you help your team navigate the change, the improvement is better.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_01]: That also gives them confidence through learning, through application.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_01]: And it makes them resilient for the next time and the time after that, it makes them resilient through the challenges.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_01]: And it turns any potential disruption into opportunities for a deeper foundation and for better growth in innovation in the future, because people will look for
- 8:30[SPEAKER_01]: ways to improve, and you will then develop continuous improvement using technology and the humans together.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_01]: The impact of AI and automation on your workforce needs to be smart and needs to be structured, so prepare your team.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_01]: Lean into technology as an opportunity, but make sure you do it smart, make sure you understand it.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_01]: And if you don't get help, reach out, ask.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_01]: When you ask, be smart, be specific, get measurements back, listen to attainability, ask for the struggles, prepare yourself and your team for a future that will always have technology in it, and this new technology will grow again and again and again.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_01]: Why not practice now and brace the present, get yourself ready, be smart,
- 9:22[SPEAKER_01]: I hope you join us again on the daily influence when we will try to bring you something that brings more value to you in your organization.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_01]: I hope you have a great day.
