- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: Hey everybody, welcome to our podcast called cheesy popcorn where we talk everything movies and beyond.
- 0:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'm here with my name is Anna Varne.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_01]: I'm here with my co-host, Mr. Chris Miles, who is the host of new on music row right here on the rise network as well.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_01]: Correct.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_01]: And I am the co-host of, can I call you dad with my son into?
- 0:19[SPEAKER_01]: We have our last episode coming up.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_00]: Pickleball.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_01]: Pickleball, we had two challenges this season when we was cooking.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to slightly give him the edge on that one.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_01]: And then he challenged me to pickleball.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_01]: And as you know, I am just so close to being a pro in Pickleball, provided that I'm playing against people in wheelchairs for the most part, but still a pro.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_01]: And anyway, that'll be fun.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_01]: We had a good time.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_01]: Chris was nice enough to come out with Andrew's wife, Adam, and film us.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_01]: at a park.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_01]: And we got lucky.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_01]: There was really nobody there.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_01]: So it was a great day.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_01]: It was hot.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_01]: It was a little muggy, but that doesn't bother me because I'm from a Caribbean island as you know.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_01]: So this week we both had an opportunity to see a sequel.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_01]: A twenty year old sequel.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's twenty years.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's about right.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's twenty with Adam Sandler Happy Gilmore to only available on Netflix.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_01]: Only on Netflix.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_00]: That is correct.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: So that first is not in theaters.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_00]: This is the first movie that we have reviewed that is on a streaming plot.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_00]: That's true.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_00]: We'll probably do some more along the way because, you know, some not everybody goes to the theaters, some people watch the fun streaming.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_01]: And I had to go find someplace that I could watch Netflix on because I don't have it.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure somewhere along the way we can get your subscription somewhere.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_01]: It's possible.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_01]: If not, I actually got to watch it.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_01]: My other son is just open the auto repair shop called B.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_01]: bear auto repair in a downage grove on act and go check it out folks and he has Netflix and he's got a TV in his waiting room.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_01]: So while I got my old changed.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, my breaks check.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: I was able to watch the movie about that a two-fer
- 2:09[SPEAKER_00]: a two per for a movie that is number two so there we go so I'll let you go first and see what you thought the show lines up with what I thought happy go more to of course featuring Adam Sandler and a slew of cast members from the previous show a lot of cameos as I will call them
- 2:30[SPEAKER_00]: And then some interesting casting for some of the shall we say villains of the film, multiple villains in the film is a matter of fact.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_00]: Not given too much away here, but happy Gilmore comes back from retirement.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_00]: I guess you could say, or maybe should we say it?
- 2:48[SPEAKER_00]: We'll spoiler alert this one.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_00]: Alcohol addiction.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_00]: So.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_01]: I guess that's what you'd call it.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't see it that way, but okay.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_00]: Well, okay, maybe it was just me, maybe that's the way I looked at it, but it seemed like he became an alcoholic, and that was kind of the way that things happened.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_00]: Of course, because of depression and things of that nature, because his wife passed away, which is revealed in the movie, so that's a spoiler alert as well.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_01]: But I want to hold it for a while, so I don't think we're going to spoil it.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_00]: You never know.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I know some people at work who haven't seen it yet, and we were talking about what we were going to review from movies this week on the podcast.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_00]: I was talking with them at work.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_00]: And they were like, oh, happy Gilmour two.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, yeah, I haven't seen that yet.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe spoiler for some, maybe not so much for others.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_00]: But all in all, it was an entertaining film.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_00]: They do say in the movie industry that the sequels kind of tend not to be that great.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to few.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to have better than the original, I believe.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I do that.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_01]: They are in few between.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_00]: They are very far in few between.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's the thing is that most sequels are kind of in.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know about happy Gilmour two.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_00]: There were bits and pieces.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I laughed throughout the entire movie, but that's because I'm twelve sometimes and I am.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_00]: I have the humor, the humor level of a twelve year old.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_00]: So if you take this movie as an Adam Sandler movie from the get go and you don't expect too much of it, I think you're going to be thoroughly entertained by it.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_00]: total Adam, Sam or jokes and everything like that throughout the movie.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, I don't know if you know this or not, he's had his family featured in like the last three or four movies that he's done with Netflix.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_00]: That's been a thing.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_00]: So his daughters are in the movie, his wife's in the movie, and that happened here as well too.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_00]: So like I said, it was entertaining.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_00]: I wanted a little something more from it.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: It was kind of like this, okay, we're going to see happy get back and then you're going to go golfing and stuff.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_00]: And there's a whole new way to play golf in there that kind of takes things to a whole other like OMG level, so to speak.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that might have been put in there to maybe entertain the younger crowd.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_00]: who is expecting things to be a little bit different, so to speak.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: But all in all, like I said, I thought it was entertaining.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: I'm glad that it was streaming.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if I would have gone to see it in the movies.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_00]: It didn't really make me go, who I want to see that.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_00]: But you know, when I watched it, our six-year-old had watched, and she's like, you guys, you're going to love it.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_00]: And like I said, I don't know if I loved it.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, honestly, if I'm going to give it a review, I think I'm going to give it a seven out of ten.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_00]: It was funny, predictable, and Adam Sandler all in one.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_00]: I guess it's the best way to put it.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_00]: interesting twist on the golf that was made a little bit interesting but some of the stuff just seemed like what are we doing so I don't know that's that's what I came up away with it what did you I agree with a lot of what you're saying here's happy game war two was not my happy place yes okay
- 5:56[SPEAKER_01]: to quote the movie itself.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_01]: There are a bunch of things I thought were wrong.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_01]: I gave it a five on a scale of five out of ten.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_01]: I gave it a five.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_01]: And that's being really generous, I believe.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_01]: I think the writing was nowhere near as clever as the original.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_01]: The storyline was not believable at all to me.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_01]: I thought Adam Sandler's sleepwalk through this role.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_01]: Totally.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_01]: I thought the cats, the characters, you know, chubs son with the wooden hand.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_01]: totally stupid.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_01]: I thought his kids were way too out of control to be believable.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_01]: The why story from the get go.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_01]: As a comedian, that's based on an old golf joke.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_01]: Two guys would go off and then the one guy tees off and accidentally hits his wife in the head and she died.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_01]: He gets up golfing and his buddy gets him to go back to golf after a couple of years.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_01]: He goes, you gotta go.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_01]: They go to the same course.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_01]: I'm speeding this up, obviously, but they go to the same course.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_01]: He gets to the same shot that he had.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_01]: when when he accidentally hit his wife and he kind of stops her a little bit and his buddy says hey what's going on he says whether this is the same spot you know two years ago and his buddy goes oh yeah he says don't you remember and his buddy goes yeah I remember and his buddy says I shot a seven
- 7:17[SPEAKER_01]: That's the joke.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_01]: Now, that's funny.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't think that was funny at all.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, kind of keep bringing her back.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_01]: I thought was stupid.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_01]: I thought the maxi golf thing was stupid.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_01]: It was mini golf, meets regular golf.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: And to me, it was just, I don't know, they just figured out something that was really stupid.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_01]: I like Bunstiller.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_01]: I hated him in this row completely.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_01]: Totally unnecessary.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry, the cameo's I thought were really dumb.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_01]: I thought they just came out and know we're for no particular reason.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_01]: When you have it like, you know, naked gun, too.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_01]: They had that little cameo of Priscilla, which was nice.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_01]: I think it could have been a little longer.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, naked gun, the reboot, right?
- 8:00[SPEAKER_00]: to reboot.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_00]: No, two would have been two and a half with lesion.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, so yeah, the one with lesion is, I thought that cameo was okay.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_01]: It should have been a little bit longer, I thought, but that was okay.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_01]: These were just too many, too much.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: The worst, I think the worst part of this to me was the whole drinking thing.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_01]: the golf ball was a drink, the remote was a, it was just, you know, stupid.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_01]: And again, going back to naked gun, you know, they did it with the coffee, you know, that someone was always handing the coffee.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_01]: And it just kind of got funnier as it went along because they were in whatever weird or situation.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they're at a crime scene, someone get, that made it, that was funny to me.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_01]: They called callbacks, by the way, in the comedy world.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_01]: This was, it was kind of pathetic.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_01]: You know, that's why the whole thing with Ben Stiller, an alcoholic synonymous, you know, and he said, we call it El Quino.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_01]: It just, he was, it seemed like Ben Stiller was trying to reprisage role in Dodgeball.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_01]: Where he was great.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_01]: He was great in Dodgeball.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_01]: But I thought he brought that character to this movie and it didn't work for me.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_01]: Other people might love it.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm not a big fan of Adam Sandler to begin with.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_01]: But I am a big fan of the original happy gimmick.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, when Bob Barker and Adam Stanler had that fight, to me, I mean, I peed my pants.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_01]: Now they tried to replicate that with shooter.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_01]: And the shooter we're having, character was kind of funny, but it's just not enough.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_01]: Not enough funny.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_01]: The whole mental institute and that, I don't know.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think they took a really good movie with it twenty years
- 9:42[SPEAKER_01]: And like for God how good the original was.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: And just made a movie to make a movie with his family, I guess.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't know about that.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_01]: And his friends and all these cameos.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_01]: And to me, a really stupid, unbelievable storyline.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and maybe I was being a little generous with my rating.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_01]: You can't change it now.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to change it.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: I just said I was probably being a little generous because hearing some of the things that you were talking about, I was kind of like, yeah, I was looking at it from an entertainment standpoint.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_00]: If you expect Adam Sandler from the beginning, then I think you're going to keep the bar low.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_01]: And I do, yeah, I do.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_01]: Even in Happy Gimmer, I kept it low.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_01]: But he surprised me because he played that role really, really well.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_01]: He didn't play that role here at all.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I don't think he had to see.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_00]: I've listened to a lot of his comedic albums.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_00]: And I got into him like pretty heavily when I was in my twenties or early thirties, I think it was.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_00]: And I listened to a bunch of his comedians.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_00]: And the same thing happened with his comedy albums that happened with his movies.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_00]: They got worse over time.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_00]: So when I came into this, I was like, it's not going to be that great.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be OK.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_00]: And it's just what it is.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_00]: I think some people will say that some people are to love it.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_00]: Some people are to love it.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_00]: Right, exactly.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_00]: And like I said, and that's OK.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_00]: Giving it a seven is generous, but I think that's because if you go into it from the aspect of understanding that's an Adam Sandler movie,
- 11:11[SPEAKER_00]: And it's going to be some of the same stuff you've already seen with some new stuff added in.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_00]: And I agree with you too.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_00]: The alcoholism thing was just way over the top for me.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, OK, get it.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_00]: It was kind of depressed.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_01]: But it was depressing.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I thought it was really taking a really cheap shot at alcoholism.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, they're, especially with the Ben Stiller character to me.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_01]: And I didn't find anything funny in there.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_01]: I was being generous with a five to be honest.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I agree with you there, too.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_00]: They've been still a character, though, in the first movie, in the first happy Gilmore, you know, when he, he was very, very small role in that movie.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_00]: And I was surprised when he was like in a decent portion.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_00]: He was when grandma was in the nursing home.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_00]: He was the guy who was like, how about a glass of milk to show you the whatever or something like that?
- 12:04[SPEAKER_00]: I forget what the line is.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_00]: But, and that was it.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_00]: That was the role.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_01]: That's how forgettable that role was.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_01]: And to me, I don't even remember that part.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_00]: And he even more so, because then he took what he started with that character.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_00]: He added in probably what you were saying about dodgeball.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_00]: I think maybe a little bit more of Zoolander was in there as well too.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_00]: And then he threw it all together and tried to make it so much more.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_00]: And it just
- 12:27[SPEAKER_00]: Honestly, I think he was better in half a Gilmore one with that small little role as opposed to the larger role that he was there Was how about a how about a nice talk glass of shut the hell up?
- 12:37[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's the line.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and Gilmore one, but anyway, so yeah all in all, you know, I mean it's one of those I watch it once and probably never watch it again So and that Buddhism doesn't always work in movies.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_00]: I mean
- 12:50[SPEAKER_01]: I love that Adam's, and it likes to take care of his friends, even if it's just a cameo, but, you know, I don't know.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_01]: It was, it was below soft moric for me.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_01]: And I like soft moric humor.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_01]: You know, scary, scary movie, naked gun, all the mouth broke stuff, but it's, but it's clever soft moric.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_01]: And this was not, you know, my opinion it also.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_00]: Not clever at all.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_00]: So there you go.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_00]: See, happy going more, too.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_00]: If you want to, don't listen to our reviews, you don't have to.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_01]: I listen.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_01]: I don't listen to reviewers anyway.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_01]: I see more movies that Cisco and Eber put down that I enjoyed the hell out of it than anything else.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_01]: And here's my rant on movies nowadays.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_01]: Movies, you know, I'm seven years old.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_01]: When I was, when I was, when they were making movies back in the day, they made a character and they brought an actor and to be that character.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_01]: They tend to make movies now based on the actor.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_01]: Tom Cruise is Tom Cruise in every movie.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_01]: Adam Sandler is Adam Sandler in every movie.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_01]: And that's how movies are made now.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_01]: They're not.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_01]: You don't walk away talking about the character like you used to, like Dustin Hoffman and Tootsie.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_01]: When he became Tutsi, the next day when people were talking about the movie, we were talking about what Tutsi did, and what Tutsi said, and what not with us in Hoffman.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_01]: And nowadays, it's what you ordered, you know, no, no time crews did this, time crews did that.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_01]: You don't talk about the characters as much anymore, because movies, actors are not building, actors are not becoming the characters.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_01]: The characters are, are molding themselves to whoever the actors at the moment, I think.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_01]: And that's, obviously, that's a similar formula.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's the shift with Hollywood though.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's Hollywood grew to what it's grown into now.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_00]: I think they've realized that we need to let the actors do what the actors are going to do and then that's what's going to be it.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_00]: And I think a lot of scripts out there are kind of just fluff because of that.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_00]: In a hopes that they're going to have somebody that's going to have the historic moment or something like that on film and just be what it is.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_00]: And there are people in the audience who are going to hate me for them about to say, but I don't need another mission impossible movie at all ever.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_00]: Again, that's just me.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_01]: All right, that's the end of this show, ladies and gentlemen.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_01]: I am not doing another podcast with this guy.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't like mission.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_01]: Actually, I like the serious TV series better than the mission impossible movies.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_00]: I agree too.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think the TV series was better as well.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_00]: Don't get me wrong.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think the first three mission impossible movies were good.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_00]: And then after that, I was kind of like, it's Tom Cruise.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's my point.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_01]: That's my point.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Spencer Tracy was a different character in every movie played.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_01]: Clint Eastwood is a different character in every movie place.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_01]: You can go all the way back to Citizen Kane, Orson Wells.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Orson Wells played a bunch of different roles.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_01]: And again, when you talked about the movie the next day, you talked about the role and not the actor.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's today, you know, you know, doing that anymore.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_01]: There's a few.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_01]: There are a few actors out there who do, who do embody the role really well.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_01]: There's a few.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_01]: Daniel Day Lewis comes to mind.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_00]: Just about the same.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_01]: My love foot is totally different than any other role he had done before that.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_00]: And I absolutely love him in Lincoln.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, absolutely love him, but he also pulled the game.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_01]: He's a lot of bad guys all the time too.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_01]: He was in with Clint Eastwood and line a line of duty.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_01]: And I can't think of his name.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_01]: There was actually a movie inside him.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_01]: And I can't I'm blanking on the name if you can if you're looking up what we'll say Mechovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markovitch Markov
- 16:44[SPEAKER_01]: So that's what actors were back in the day.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_01]: You know, there's a story about Jimmy Cagney going for an audition for a movie, way back.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_01]: Jimmy Cagney was another one of those guys.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he played a lot of gangster roles that were the same, but he played other roles too.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_01]: Like you did Yankee Doodle, Dandy, and some other movies.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_01]: But he tells the story that he went to an audition for a studio.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_01]: And he did the audition, well, and they said, they said, you know how to roller skate, right?
- 17:10[SPEAKER_01]: Because you know, just some roller skating in the movie.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_01]: And he said, of course I do.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_01]: And then he left, and he went to roller skating, and he learned how to roller skate.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_01]: because that's how it was back then.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_00]: Actually did everything.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_00]: They still do that today.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_00]: They do some.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_00]: Not as much as they used to.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_00]: That's the one.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_01]: But the back in the day, you know, you, that was, you never, you didn't say no, you went and learned it.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_01]: So all right.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll move on to coming up.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_01]: What's coming up?
- 17:36[SPEAKER_00]: So movies coming out today, or while tomorrow is tomorrow.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_00]: Highest to lowest, which features Denzel Washington, he's coming back to the next week.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_00]: And he's been away.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_01]: I just saw equalizer three.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_00]: Been away from this big screen for a while.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_00]: So we're good to see him coming back.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody to with Christopher Lloyd and Nick Odin Kirk.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_00]: Bob Oden Kirk?
- 17:56[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know why, so I thought it was Nick.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_00]: It could be right.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_00]: They call it a dark comedy, but as you and I have kind of had a discussion about it, it seems more like an action type movie.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of like a death wish.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_01]: To me, and then you know it's based on, I don't know if you know, the original nobody was based on a home invasion at Odin Kirk's house.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_01]: That he was able to lock the home invaders in the basement.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_01]: And then he was disillusioned with how law enforcement handled things.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_01]: And so he was imagining if I was a badass, what would I do?
- 18:32[SPEAKER_01]: And that's how nobody came.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_01]: Now nobody too is a sequel to that similar to that switch.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_01]: That's which too enough is another one with Halle Berry.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_01]: There's another one army of one I believe it is with Jody Foster.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_01]: There's a bunch of these visual anti-movies that regular people want and do stuff.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I like those kind of movies.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_01]: I enjoy them because they're fast-paced.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes they get a little over the top like I like equalizer movies, but there's a lot of gratuitous, really graphic stuff there.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_01]: Like I wouldn't take my thirteen year old to see it at all because it's just too much.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think I take anybody under the age of fifteen to go see anyone.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I don't even think fifteen.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's just, I don't know.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's what the nobody too is it's come a does I have Sharon Stone yes and Chris Lloyd mumbled so you know Chris Lloyd has come a long way from his days on taxi yes yes he has has any
- 19:33[SPEAKER_01]: Hello to my taxi he was Jim Ignatowski.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god if you two all to remember taxi look it up go on YouTube and watch and look for the episodes with Jim Ignatowski featured the funny thing is is that I always when I so I'm a big fan of back to the future movies and Doc Brown reminds me of Jim in Gettowski.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_00]: So that's kind of funny
- 19:55[SPEAKER_00]: Also coming out this week, Americana featuring Sidney Sweeney, and then Witchboard, which I'm interested in just because of the premise of the movie.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_00]: But we'll see, I haven't watched any previews on it yet or anything.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't really see any previews on the movie to be honest with you.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_00]: I think this is one of those just came out of nowhere, so to speak.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, I think what we're going to do next week, I think is we're going to review nobody too.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_00]: We'll go check it out and then give you the word on that.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_00]: So it's kind of an action film.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_00]: It's an action film.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_00]: And because of that, we've decided that we're going to give our top two action films of all time.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_00]: The ones that we like.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_00]: The ones that we like.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_00]: Our opinions mean you like them because everyone's got an opinion.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_00]: They're just like something else.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_00]: Like a nose.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like a nose.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_00]: There you go.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_00]: Or lower.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_01]: All right, I'll give you my second.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, we're starting bottom up.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_01]: We'll start bottom up.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_01]: National treasure.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_01]: Nick Cage.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it's just like on stop.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_00]: I like both of those.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_00]: And you know what's even cooler?
- 20:55[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if you've watched us or not, but the TV series on Disney.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I watched a little bit of that.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_01]: It was entertaining.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_01]: The first national treasure just surprised the hell out of me.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_01]: How good it was written, fast pace.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_01]: I love the villain.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Vigo is a great villain.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_01]: You have, and I'm Blinken and his name was a cop trying to catch them.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_01]: What was his name, Darnit?
- 21:24[SPEAKER_01]: And I can see his face clearly ends up being a templer night because he's got the ring.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_01]: You'll find it quick enough.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_01]: John Void?
- 21:35[SPEAKER_01]: No, John Void was a dad.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_00]: Justin Barthol.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_01]: Nope, he was a kid.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_00]: I don't, I don't, oh, Ed Harris?
- 21:44[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_00]: I'm striking out here.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_00]: What was the character name?
- 21:49[SPEAKER_01]: He was a cop.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_01]: He was the detective, trying to catch them.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_01]: He's been in a bunch of those.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_01]: It's a terrific actor.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_01]: You'll know Sean Bean?
- 21:57[SPEAKER_01]: Nope.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_01]: You're looking at one or two.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_00]: I'm looking at one national treasure one.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_00]: Harvey Kytel?
- 22:04[SPEAKER_00]: Harvey Kytel.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, there we go.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_01]: He's another guy that takes the role, by the way.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_01]: He's another actor.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_00]: He's another actor.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_00]: He's another actor.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_01]: He's another actor actor.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_01]: So that's my, uh, national treasure.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_00]: I like that pick.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_00]: I like that pick.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_00]: Little surprise.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_00]: Well, that came out about the same time as a couple other like treasure hunter.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, movies.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_00]: I think the, and the, I think, and the, and the, and the, and Alina, Joly, Tomb Raider came out.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_00]: Tomb Raider in that time.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_00]: And then also, if that was good, the movie, yeah, that was entertaining.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_00]: Being a fan of the Tomb Raider franchise, I was kind of like, okay, I didn't.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_00]: I was kind of like, is she's not really Lord Croft, but that was just me.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_00]: And then also around that same time, the book from Dan Brown that everybody was like, are you kidding me?
- 22:54[SPEAKER_00]: The DaVinci Code?
- 22:55[SPEAKER_00]: All the Catholics were like, don't read this book.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_00]: It totally like, you know, does this and that?
- 23:00[SPEAKER_00]: They totally rips apart Catholicism.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_01]: I read that book in three metro rides to downtown from Downers Grove.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_01]: Three.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_01]: And my younger son, he, he won't see the movie.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_01]: And I said, well, you should read the book first.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_01]: So he said, okay, we'll read the book and then we'll go see the movie.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_01]: I said, okay.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_01]: So I was, I was flying through the book.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_01]: And so we were talking and I said, how you coming on the book?
- 23:24[SPEAKER_01]: And he said, I'm in chapter four.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_01]: And I said, oh, cool.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_01]: What do you think of the albino monk?
- 23:31[SPEAKER_01]: And he said, he said, there's no monk.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_01]: I said, yeah, they all buy no monk.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_01]: What do you think of that character?
- 23:38[SPEAKER_01]: Because there's no monk.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_01]: Is it okay?
- 23:41[SPEAKER_01]: So I let it go.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_01]: And then we would see the movie.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_01]: And the Obama man came up.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_01]: And he looked over at me with these, like, confessional eyes.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_01]: Just like, oh, shit.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_01]: You don't read the book.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't say anything.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_01]: I just, I watched the movie.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_01]: I saw the monk.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_01]: I looked over at him.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_01]: He looked over me and we knew.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_01]: We knew he was caught.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, that was pretty cool.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_01]: So what's your, that's funny.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_00]: My number two, runner up, whatever you want to call it, the fugitive.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_00]: Excellent with Harrison Ford surprise surprisingly Good absolutely and of course from this Yeah, that's not why I brought it up, but yes, you're like behind somebody on like something or something like that if I knew it correctly.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, same Patrick's day parade.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, this takes a big WLS circle seven in the background of big high platform.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_00]: I'm right down below that we drank Matthew and you've never seen but you're never seen on camera though
- 24:40[SPEAKER_01]: Never seen on camera, but I know I was there.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_01]: I saw, I saw Tommy Lee and I saw Harrison Ford run out first.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_01]: Then that's all Tommy Lee run out into the crowd.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_01]: I saw him.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he does the jump.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_01]: I saw that from my vantage one.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_01]: It was very cool.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody's disagreeing.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_01]: And that's a great great.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_01]: That was terrific.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, and a lot of people were like, oh, it's never going to live up to the TV series.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_00]: It's not going to do this.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_00]: The one on man is blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_00]: And then it came out and it was absolutely amazing.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_00]: And being a fan of Harrison Ford as a kid because of the Star Wars movies and then also Raiders of the Lost Ark, I was like, this is Harrison Ford at his finest.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_00]: Now, he can never do that movie again, not at this age.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_00]: He's proven that in the latest Raiders of the Lost Ark movie, but nonetheless, awesome movie.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_00]: Just an amazing, amazing film.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_01]: And the follow-up to that was... I don't know what the follow-up was.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_01]: There was a follow-up.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_01]: It was in a sequel.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_01]: There was a follow-up.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_01]: With timely Jones again as... Oh, oh, oh.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't realize that was a follow-up.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_00]: Interesting.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that was a follow-up.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm blanking on the name.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_00]: I saw my, because I was like, I remember time when I was being in.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_01]: Wesley Snipes, Tommy Jones, all the same characters from the fugitive, except they're going after Wesley now.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_01]: For something that you didn't did.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_01]: And I had it in my mind, and I just blanked on it.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_01]: Well, there's only one movie they ever did together.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe I don't know.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_00]: I do remember the movie, but I don't remember the title.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_01]: So what they did was they did a sequel to Girard.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_01]: Instead of doing a sequel to the fugitive, the sequel was continuing the story of Gerard, the U.S.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_01]: Marshalls.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_01]: That's what it's called.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_00]: The U.S.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_00]: Marshalls.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_01]: So that was, let's continue Gerard's journey as the U.S.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_01]: Marshall.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_01]: And it was actually as good or a little rather down the juniors in a two.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_01]: It's actually as a little better than fugitive in terms of the action and the writing.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_01]: And of course, Tommy Lee just that character was made for him.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_00]: But see, this is where we're talking about how characters are sometimes made for actors and things of that nature.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_00]: So this is that shift in Hollywood that we've been talking about.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_01]: except that he's done many, many other roles where he can't believe he's a completely different guy.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_01]: Without a doubt.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you could see no country for old men.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_01]: He's in that two different role in that one.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_01]: In the one where the old astronauts with Clint Eastwood and
- 27:34[SPEAKER_00]: I don't remember that one.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's the space cowboys.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_01]: Totally different role again.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_01]: He put different character.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_01]: This not, you know, not a movie made for him.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_01]: This this movie wasn't really made for timely Jones as much as it was made for his character, Gerard.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_01]: but he's played other roles where he's, you know, sitting guys just playing Gerard again, unlike Adam Sandler, where pretty much every movie, Adam Sandler's Adam Sandler, you know, have to begin more, have to begin more too, Billy Madison.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_00]: Well, there were a couple of movies.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_00]: Fifty first dates probably was one that I could think of, and Spanglish is another one where he really wasn't
- 28:13[SPEAKER_00]: playing Adam Sandler.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yes, because they were more of like a comedic drama.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we might I wouldn't call them romantic comedies, but they probably would be in that category, but yeah, for sure.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_01]: So you're top next to one each and you're not going to be, I mean, don't even know what it is.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_01]: Skyfall.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_00]: The Bond movie?
- 28:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, Daniel Cole.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you forgot that I'm a big Bond fan.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you don't.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_00]: I like my mission.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_00]: Mission impossible.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_00]: Mission impossible.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_01]: The guy fall I thought was, uh, start to finish, uh, just action packed.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, you know, never, never a dull moment, so to speak.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_01]: I like that.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_01]: I like movies that just you start and you just go to the end.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_01]: There's a little bit of stuff in the middle, maybe tiny little moments, but then boom, you're right back in something fast-paced.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_01]: If you're going to have an action film, that's what it's supposed to be.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_01]: To me.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_00]: I can see that.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_01]: So Sky Falls my number one.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_00]: guy falls number one, okay?
- 29:18[SPEAKER_00]: Interesting.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_00]: So my number one pick is a movie that a lot of people like to say is actually a Christmas movie, and I will tell you that it takes place during Christmas time, but it is not a Christmas movie.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_00]: And I bet I could guess.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_00]: You, I'm sure you can, because when everybody says, oh, this is a Christmas movie, everyone's like, no, it's not.
- 29:35[SPEAKER_00]: And everyone's like, it took place during Christmas.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_00]: It took place during Christmas, but it has no Christmas theme in it whatsoever.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_00]: And then somebody will be like, well, the character is trying to get back to his family for Christmas.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, you know what?
- 29:45[SPEAKER_00]: I'm done.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_00]: It's not a Christmas movie.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_00]: Die Hard is my favorite action movie of all time.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_00]: Again, with the, yeah, see, and even the audience of members are looking at me like, I'm absolutely not said it's not a Christmas movie.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_00]: So whatever, you people who think that it's a, you know, a Christmas movie, whatever.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_00]: National Ampunes Christmas is a Christmas movie, okay?
- 30:04[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway,
- 30:05[SPEAKER_01]: I heard does have some Christmas themes.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_01]: There's a Santa hat.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there's Christmas music too.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_00]: So, exactly, but it's not a Christmas movie.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't share the Christmas spirit.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't talk about the Christmas thing and all that stuff.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_00]: If you want to call, okay, if you want to call, dire Christmas movie, then Gremlins is a Christmas movie as well.
