- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, guys doing on AM Stephan are playing the band
- 0:02Speaker 1: ver Mantics, and I'm here chatting with Chris today Heavy mag.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Thanks for having me, Chris, my pleasure.
- 0:08Speaker 3: Makee good to see you again.
- 0:09Speaker 2: You too, you too so.
- 0:12Speaker 4: But Magic's released your most recent single, come Alive, back
- 0:14Speaker 4: on April fourth, Mate, so that was just the audio
- 0:17Speaker 4: at that stage.
- 0:17Speaker 3: So how's the Englyer response been to it.
- 0:20Speaker 2: It's been awesome, It's been awesome.
- 0:21Speaker 1: We're super stoked to have that one out there and
- 0:23Speaker 1: people are resonating with it really well, and it's heading
- 0:26Speaker 1: the direction that we really want to be in as
- 0:28Speaker 1: a band. So it's just exciting to have it out
- 0:30Speaker 1: and I see what happens next, and.
- 0:32Speaker 3: So tell us a bit more about the song from
- 0:34Speaker 3: a musical point of view like that.
- 0:35Speaker 4: The press release says that it's a more stripped back
- 0:38Speaker 4: and raw approach than your previous releases.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Do you agree, Yeah, definitely.
- 0:42Speaker 1: The previous previous stuff we put out was a lot
- 0:44Speaker 1: more produced and had a lot more effects, and it
- 0:48Speaker 1: was just a bigger production, whereas this one is definitely
- 0:50Speaker 1: more of the raw avenure and things are played you know,
- 0:52Speaker 1: in real time, and the vocals haven't been tuned anymore,
- 0:54Speaker 1: and the drums are played with no cutting. So yeah,
- 0:57Speaker 1: all those things make a big difference, and it's heading
- 0:59Speaker 1: in the way that we want to to head in.
- 1:01Speaker 1: And yeah, we're just like really excited to have that
- 1:03Speaker 1: as our standard now and.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Moving forward like this is where we're heading.
- 1:08Speaker 4: So by that you mean that like you haven't polished
- 1:10Speaker 4: anything in the studio and you haven't added any extra Yeah,
- 1:13Speaker 4: this is basically what you'd sound like live.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just the live the live show, but recorded version.
- 1:19Speaker 1: We're trying to really get that out there and people
- 1:21Speaker 1: that come to see us live can really like feel
- 1:23Speaker 1: the same energy they feel from the recording.
- 1:25Speaker 2: So big part of it is is that totally nice.
- 1:29Speaker 4: Now Come Alive follows your previous single band So how
- 1:33Speaker 4: does how does this song show a different side to
- 1:35Speaker 4: your musical psyche?
- 1:36Speaker 1: I guess I guess the big thing I had just
- 1:38Speaker 1: mentioned was like the production of the song and where
- 1:41Speaker 1: we're heading. I think that's that's been the biggest factor
- 1:43Speaker 1: in the movement forward, and obviously just doing things that
- 1:46Speaker 1: we want to do, I think, like listening to what
- 1:48Speaker 1: we want to see happen and not having to listen
- 1:50Speaker 1: to other people and just doing what we believe it
- 1:52Speaker 1: is good is probably the biggest factor as well, just
- 1:56Speaker 1: just sticking with what we want to want to do.
- 1:59Speaker 4: I supposed to you it's a good point there, bro like,
- 2:01Speaker 4: because you guys are a band on the rise. You know,
- 2:03Speaker 4: you're get more and more popular with each song, so
- 2:05Speaker 4: you'd be at the stage now where people would be
- 2:07Speaker 4: coming in and trying to tell you what you should
- 2:09Speaker 4: sound like and what you should do. So being able
- 2:11Speaker 4: to maintain your own individual out there, I guess it's probably.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Be a big thing, massive thing, I feel like, Yeah,
- 2:17Speaker 1: I guess it happens in music where people can opinions
- 2:19Speaker 1: and you can obviously take it of course, and there's
- 2:22Speaker 1: times where I think we're just going to stick to
- 2:23Speaker 1: what we believe is who we are and that's and
- 2:27Speaker 1: that's a big, big factor for us, big moment for
- 2:29Speaker 1: us now to just stick at that and believe in
- 2:31Speaker 1: what we're doing.
- 2:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:33Speaker 4: Yeah, Now, we mentioned before you release the audio to
- 2:36Speaker 4: Come Alive back in early April, but the music video
- 2:38Speaker 4: is pepiereing today, very heavy and it's out to the
- 2:41Speaker 4: general population tomorrow on the eighteenth of April.
- 2:44Speaker 3: Weights. So what was the thought process. By doing that, I.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Guess just keeping the single like you know, on its
- 2:51Speaker 1: own on Spotify, ar, giving that a couple of weeks
- 2:53Speaker 1: to go through and get people to really listen to
- 2:55Speaker 1: the song itself, and just get all the streams through
- 2:58Speaker 1: that way, and then I guess continue that the hype
- 3:00Speaker 1: and have the video come out a couple of weeks later,
- 3:03Speaker 1: just yet to continue the process of the hype and
- 3:05Speaker 1: get people keen.
- 3:06Speaker 4: It does make sense from a marketing point of view,
- 3:08Speaker 4: you know, because like bands put all their eggs in
- 3:10Speaker 4: one basket and they dropped the video and the song
- 3:12Speaker 4: on the same day, and that's it, like all the
- 3:14Speaker 4: build up going. But now you sort of by releasing
- 3:17Speaker 4: the song first, people can listen to it without the
- 3:20Speaker 4: distraction of the video, appreciate it a lot more, and
- 3:22Speaker 4: then digest it in a different way.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Yeah, totally, that's that's literally, that was the mindset for sure.
- 3:27Speaker 1: And just yet keep keeps the flowing and more things
- 3:31Speaker 1: coming up, which which is always exciting.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Not just put all that at one.
- 3:34Speaker 4: Go nice and to tell us about the music video
- 3:36Speaker 4: and how it relates to the subject matter of the song.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Yeah, we actually did, Like we we work with our
- 3:41Speaker 1: mate Alex Scapins, who's actually an adelaide and I've been
- 3:44Speaker 1: good friends with him for a long time. And yeah,
- 3:46Speaker 1: we just like come up with this concept that really
- 3:48Speaker 1: felt like that captured the vibe of the song.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Did it at night time?
- 3:51Speaker 1: There's a flash one one camera, one flash, and just
- 3:54Speaker 1: like we're in a circle just playing the track, trying
- 3:57Speaker 1: that raw energy across and that emotion coming through the
- 4:00Speaker 1: visuals as well. And yeah, it was pretty straightforward type
- 4:03Speaker 1: of video, but that's what we went for. We just
- 4:04Speaker 1: went for like just four guys playing in the dark
- 4:06Speaker 1: pretty much with a flash and the camera in a
- 4:08Speaker 1: circle in the park lands and just trying to really
- 4:11Speaker 1: get across what the meeting of the song is through that.
- 4:13Speaker 4: I suppose to defeat the purpose if you had a
- 4:15Speaker 4: big production, Yeah, wouldn't like you try and have a
- 4:18Speaker 4: raw striped back sound and then your bells and whistles
- 4:21Speaker 4: in the video just wouldn't work.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Yeah exactly, Yeah, yeah, big factor.
- 4:24Speaker 1: We're just keeping it to relate with the song and
- 4:27Speaker 1: just keep it super super straightforward and not too complicated.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:30Speaker 4: Nice. I mean it's come of live a stand alone
- 4:33Speaker 4: single made or is it part of a bigger album
- 4:35Speaker 4: picture part.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Of a bigger, bigger picture. Yeah, there's there's more more
- 4:38Speaker 1: coming with it. This is the first, the first track
- 4:41Speaker 1: off of that batch of songs. So yeah, it's excited
- 4:44Speaker 1: to have this one out. I feel like it really
- 4:45Speaker 1: like sets the tone for what's next. Every song has
- 4:49Speaker 1: their individualities, like they had their own sort of you know,
- 4:51Speaker 1: feature and stuff, but this one's a good one to
- 4:52Speaker 1: set it off.
- 4:53Speaker 2: And yeah, it's exciting.
- 4:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:56Speaker 4: And then there's a whole album going to be done in
- 4:58Speaker 4: a similar vein like the raw, so a live type feel.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Or yeah, definitely, it's all all recorded in that in
- 5:06Speaker 1: that way, they will just have their own sort of
- 5:08Speaker 1: like yeah, sort of spins and stuff.
- 5:10Speaker 2: But this one, yeah, definitely sets a tone for sure.
- 5:14Speaker 4: And can you tell us what the title of the
- 5:15Speaker 4: album is going to be or when it's going to
- 5:17Speaker 4: be at I can?
- 5:18Speaker 1: I can tell you it's there's no exact date right now,
- 5:20Speaker 1: but it's called The Pictures You Paint and you're the
- 5:23Speaker 1: first to hear it. Yeah, it's an EP, but yeah,
- 5:26Speaker 1: that will be dropping in some time.
- 5:29Speaker 4: Nice And is that going to be a theme of
- 5:31Speaker 4: the EP The Pictures You Paint? Or is that just
- 5:33Speaker 4: a song on there, that's.
- 5:34Speaker 2: The that's the EP theme.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Yeah, that's that's that's the line from one of the
- 5:38Speaker 1: other tracks on the EP, and yeah, they're they're all
- 5:40Speaker 1: in that direction of of raw and you can say
- 5:43Speaker 1: real as well. It's everything's just played you know, as
- 5:46Speaker 1: it is live. So that's that's the biggest that's the
- 5:48Speaker 1: biggest point we're trying to get across with the EP
- 5:50Speaker 1: and all the next stuff and obviously come alive too.
- 5:54Speaker 4: So yeah, right, speaking of Libra, you've got to show
- 5:58Speaker 4: you coming up at the Old Bar in Melbourne on
- 6:00Speaker 4: April twenty four, so tell us about that one.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Yeah, good music online in Melbourne.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Those guys put on some hiller nights at the Old
- 6:07Speaker 1: Bar and other venues in Melbourne. So I'm in the
- 6:09Speaker 1: nineties alternative DJ night with a few bands on it
- 6:12Speaker 1: and we obviously playing on that one. And yeah, right
- 6:14Speaker 1: before Public Holiday, so if you're in Melbourne, that's the
- 6:16Speaker 1: place to go to that on that date.
- 6:19Speaker 2: And yeah, it's a couple of days before we head
- 6:20Speaker 2: to the UK.
- 6:21Speaker 1: So it's going to be exciting to get out there
- 6:23Speaker 1: and play that right before we head off.
- 6:25Speaker 2: And yeah, super keen for it.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Tell us more about the UK. Bros. Is your first
- 6:30Speaker 3: international tour.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Yeah, it's our first time sorry as a full band
- 6:34Speaker 1: heading over to the UK, So we're really excited to
- 6:37Speaker 1: see where it goes. And obviously the live music culture
- 6:39Speaker 1: there is massive and we're just super excited to be
- 6:42Speaker 1: in it and see it from play those shows throughout
- 6:46Speaker 1: London and Brandon on the coast. So yeah, all round,
- 6:50Speaker 1: really excited for it and decided to take the next
- 6:51Speaker 1: steps for the band and see where it goes from the.
- 6:55Speaker 4: And at ended a band like how do you approach
- 6:57Speaker 4: your first international to all ideas? I do you do
- 7:00Speaker 4: you call around and ask people who've been there before
- 7:02Speaker 4: what to expect or how to behave or do you.
- 7:04Speaker 3: Just go in there and wing it and do your best?
- 7:08Speaker 1: Yeah, a bit of everything, really, like making friends and
- 7:11Speaker 1: chatting to people. We went there last year, myself, my
- 7:13Speaker 1: brother went a couple of times last year, did a
- 7:15Speaker 1: few acoustic shows there and just a few smaller things
- 7:17Speaker 1: and it was really cool to get the vibe and
- 7:18Speaker 1: now it's time to take the whole band. But yeah,
- 7:21Speaker 1: just networking with people that we know and taking some
- 7:23Speaker 1: advice from that. But it's obviously been a big goal
- 7:26Speaker 1: of ours to get over there for the last few years.
- 7:28Speaker 1: COVID back then didn't really help that. Obviously we're just
- 7:30Speaker 1: stuck in Melbourne's writing music. But it's been the big
- 7:34Speaker 1: part of the you know, the band's goal since we started,
- 7:36Speaker 1: I guess. So it's really excited to find it, like,
- 7:38Speaker 1: have it happening in two weeks. It feels like big
- 7:40Speaker 1: of a bit of an achievement for us. And yeah,
- 7:42Speaker 1: we're just really excited to see where it takes us,
- 7:44Speaker 1: what takes us next, and yeah, all around good vibes.
- 7:47Speaker 2: You know.
- 7:49Speaker 4: Said. If people want to keep up with ro Manticks
- 7:51Speaker 4: and find out what you're doing, where you're doing and
- 7:53Speaker 4: what you're selling, where do they go?
- 7:55Speaker 1: You can head to romantics dot com. It's got all
- 7:57Speaker 1: the socials linked on there.
- 7:59Speaker 2: All the two day it's on there.
- 8:00Speaker 1: There's merch on there, there's a mailing list, there's everything
- 8:03Speaker 1: through that site. So romantics dot com has it all
- 8:05Speaker 1: and obviously all the socials were pretty active, so you've
- 8:08Speaker 1: bet to find stuff on there as well. Hi.
- 8:10Speaker 4: But in the meantime, the music video for Come Alive
- 8:13Speaker 4: is out today, premiering by Heavy.
- 8:15Speaker 3: It's out on Friday, the eighteenth of April everywhere else mate,
- 8:18Speaker 3: So best to like with it. And lets say when
- 8:20Speaker 3: you come up to Bridgie you we'll catch up for
- 8:21Speaker 3: a beer.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Definitely thanks having me, man, really appreciate your time.
