- 0:00Numbers Chapter 11, let us pray, Our Father who's in heaven,
- 0:06Lord, we come to you today. Lord, we grab a hold of the hem
- 0:10of your garment. Father, we lay at your feet.
- 0:13Father, we ask for forgiveness and healing today.
- 0:16Restore us. Lord, I pray in the name of
- 0:20Jesus that we can walk across fiery stones.
- 0:23Let us walk on the water today. God, I pray.
- 0:26Calm the storms all around us. Lord, I pray in the mighty name
- 0:31of Jesus you'll come and get your glory.
- 0:33Father, envelope us. Lord Holy Spirit, fill us today.
- 0:38Help us not to be grumbling murmurs, Father, but help us to
- 0:41step into the promise, Lord, of what you've already done for us.
- 0:46Lord, you've healed, saved, delivered.
- 0:48God, you have rebuked the Devourer from off of our
- 0:51families. So, Lord, we step into the
- 0:54promise, we step into covenant. God, we're covered by the blood
- 0:59of the Lamb. Thank you, Jesus, for your
- 1:01sacrifice. Thank you, Lord, that you lived
- 1:04the innocent life and took our sins.
- 1:07Lord, thank you for righteousness.
- 1:09Thank you for right standing. Thank you for justification.
- 1:12Thank you for atonement, Father. I pray, Lord, that you'll rebuke
- 1:17the devourer from off of our families, off of our children,
- 1:20off of our houses and finances. Lord, I pray for you to fling
- 1:24open the windows of heaven, Lord, pour out blessings so much
- 1:28that we cannot contain it. Pack down.
- 1:31Father. I pray that we could be people
- 1:33that live open handedly. Lord, I pray that we'll go out
- 1:37into the highways, the hedges of the byways, Father, and snatch
- 1:41those fiery brands from out of the fire.
- 1:44God, clothe them with robes of righteousness.
- 1:47Father, I thank you, God, for another day to come and to
- 1:51worship you in spirit and truth. Thank you for manna, Thank you
- 1:55for quail. Thank you for daily bread.
- 1:57Thank you for living water. God, we're not just dunked in
- 2:00water, we're bathed in the blood of Christ, Lord, and where you
- 2:06are, Lord, we will be or seated with you in Christ in heavenly
- 2:11places. Lord, I pray that you'll come,
- 2:16come soon, Lord. And it's in Jesus Christ, holy
- 2:20and precious and powerful name that I pray.
- 2:23Amen. Let's start in verse one.
- 2:25And when the people complained, displeased the Lord, and the
- 2:34Lord heard it, and his anger was kindled, and the fire of the
- 2:40Lord burnt among them. And consume then that we're in
- 2:45the uttermost parts of the camp. So here we get to see a turning
- 2:49of events. The whole book of Numbers can be
- 2:55structured from organization to disorganization to
- 3:01reorganization. And we've just left organization
- 3:06and we're entering into disorganization.
- 3:09Friends, that's what you're going to see here in this 11th
- 3:12chapter of the Book of Numbers. You're going to see the people
- 3:16start complaining and murmuring. And God hears that even after
- 3:20all the miracles that He's wrought amongst them.
- 3:24And that is why it is so displeasing unto a holy God.
- 3:29When we are ungrateful little children, we need to practice
- 3:34gratitude. We enter in with praise and
- 3:37Thanksgiving. Give Him thanks today for all
- 3:41the things that you've seen in your life, all the promises that
- 3:45He has fulfilled and He's made good on friends.
- 3:48And we can believe and we can know and we can trust that
- 3:52eternity awaits. Even after all of the hardships
- 3:57that we face here on this earth. We can have hope, this blessed
- 4:01assurance that what Jesus did on the cross was enough and we need
- 4:06not complain and are destitute situations that we find
- 4:10ourselves in. We need to know that God is a
- 4:13miracle worker and He can literally do anything and He
- 4:17believes you in that message for a purpose.
- 4:20Verse 2 And the people cried unto Moses, and when Moses
- 4:26prayed unto the Lord, the fire was quenched.
- 4:28So we could see that God's fire by night broke out into the
- 4:33outer parts of the camp, and we do not know exactly if people's
- 4:39lives were demanded of them, or if he just burn up structures,
- 4:43or if he just sent the lightning to set things on fire.
- 4:48But you need to know that Moses prayed unto him, and it was
- 4:52quenched. 3 And he called the name of the place to Bara,
- 4:57because the fire of the Lord burnt among them.
- 5:00We pray for the fire of God to come, the baptism of fire, but
- 5:04we need to be careful what we pray for, because when the Lord
- 5:08breaks out, it's dangerous ground.
- 5:11Friends, that's where healing comes.
- 5:14That's where people get set free.
- 5:17Friends, that's where revival breaks out.
- 5:20Praise God. Hallelujah for the fire of God.
- 5:23For in the mixed multitude that was among them, fella lusting
- 5:28and the children of Israel also wept again and said, who shall
- 5:32give us flesh to eat? So we can see here that when the
- 5:36Israelites were being LED out of Egypt, it wasn't just the
- 5:41covenant people, God's chosen people.
- 5:43We see a mixed multitude of Egyptians and perhaps other
- 5:48ethnicities following them out. They could see that God's mighty
- 5:52hand was upon them. And now we can see that they
- 5:55have actually become a stumbling block to the covenant people of
- 5:59God. And all they're thinking about
- 6:02is all their carnal pleasures and they're wanting to go back
- 6:06into slavery and bondage. They're wanting to go back so
- 6:09that they could eat all of the niceties and the pleasantries,
- 6:13friends. And we're no different when God
- 6:16calls us into ministry, when we are in the beautiful place of
- 6:23God's protection and promise. We desire and lust and go a
- 6:27whoring after our sinful past, and we romanticize about it.
- 6:33Far be it from us. 5 We remember the fish which we did eat in
- 6:40Egypt freely, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions
- 6:45and garlic. Look at how these carnal
- 6:48pleasures have a stronghold upon them.
- 6:51And we're no different, friends. Don't get it twisted.
- 6:54Don't look down upon them. You and I are no different,
- 6:58friends. It's all about perspective.
- 7:01It's about keeping things in perspective.
- 7:04And if we do not, we're going to get LED astray.
- 7:07And the problem with deception is that it's so deceiving and we
- 7:11don't realize that we're being deceived, friends.
- 7:15That's why we must realign our hearts and our minds daily with
- 7:18God Almighty. We must get under the yoke of
- 7:22Jesus. We must keep the Word ever
- 7:24before us. Meditate upon it, friends.
- 7:27Safeguard yourself from the deception of the enemy who comes
- 7:30in, and he wants the flesh to win out.
- 7:34He wants you to quench the Spirit, Friends. 6 But now our
- 7:42soul is dried away. There is nothing at all besides
- 7:46this manna before our eyes. Look at how they're complaining
- 7:50about the angelic food, friends. Look at how God is giving them
- 7:56everything that they need, and they're complaining against this
- 8:00miraculous feeding from God. No wonder God is so sore
- 8:05displeased. 7 And the manna was this coriander seed, and the
- 8:13color was the color of bedelium. 8 And the people went about,
- 8:18gathered it and grounded in mills, beat it in a mortar,
- 8:22baked it in pans, made cakes of it, and the taste of it was as
- 8:27the taste of fresh oil. So here you can see that God has
- 8:32a supernatural way of, of feeding us and giving us
- 8:36provision. And we see that even with Elijah
- 8:39the the Ravens can come and feed us.
- 8:42We see even with the widow the oil that just keeps getting
- 8:47poured out, never ending supplies.
- 8:50God has supernatural ways. He can take a fish and some
- 8:55loaves and feed thousands upon thousands upon thousands.
- 8:59Nothing is impossible for our God.
- 9:03And here you can see this dew falls on the ground, and they're
- 9:07able to collect it and they're able to feed themselves from it.
- 9:10But it wasn't enough for them. They lusted and hoard after the
- 9:14things of man, the things of the world.
- 9:19And if we're not careful, we will too.
- 9:23We see that the taste of it was probably what we would think of
- 9:28as a doughnut. 9 And when the dew fell upon the camp in the
- 9:34night, the manna fell upon it. 10 And Moses heard the people
- 9:38weep throughout their families, every man in the door of his
- 9:41tent. And the anger of the Lord was
- 9:43kindled greatly. Moses also was displeased.
- 9:47So you can see these people are weeping not because of any kind
- 9:51of godly sorrow, but they're weeping because they're whoring
- 9:55and lusting after the things of the world.
- 9:57What a ridiculous notion we do it to. 11 And Moses said unto
- 10:03the Lord, Why have you afflicted your servant, and why have I not
- 10:09found favour in your sight, that you laid the burden of all this
- 10:15people upon me? He's no different.
- 10:18He's relegating himself, he's degrading himself back down into
- 10:23victim mentality. Far be it from us to have this
- 10:26victim mentality. We are the royal priesthood of
- 10:30God Almighty. We have sonship and adoption
- 10:33friends, and every good thing is available unto us.
- 10:37Far be it from us to go back to our vomit and to think of things
- 10:41on a worldly scale. We have to have the lofty
- 10:44position, the high position of who we serve and whom and who's
- 10:49we are. Friends, We need to know that we
- 10:52know that we know that we know that God can literally do
- 10:56anything. And here Moses is being beat
- 10:59down, beat down and beat down unto the place where he feels as
- 11:04if he is out of sorts and out of joint. 12 Have I conceived all
- 11:12these people? Have I begotten them that you
- 11:14should say unto me? Carry them in your bosom, as a
- 11:18nursing father bears the sucking child unto the land which you
- 11:22swore unto their fathers. So here Moses is murmuring and
- 11:26complaining against a holy God, and he's saying that I actually
- 11:30conceive all these people. You've thrusted them upon me.
- 11:34It is your responsibility, God. 13 Why should I have flesh to
- 11:42give unto all these people? For they weep unto me, saying,
- 11:47Give us flesh that we may eat, so all they can think about is
- 11:52their carnal pleasures. 14 I am not able to bear all these
- 11:57people alone. It is too heavy for me.
- 12:00And that's exactly right. We got to get to the place where
- 12:03we are 100% reliant upon God. And too many of us, friends, we
- 12:10have become reliant upon manna. We've become reliant upon
- 12:15finances. We have no place for God.
- 12:18We tip our hats to them, but in the reality, manna has become
- 12:24our God. 15 And if you deal thus with me, kill me, I pray out of
- 12:38hand, if I have found favor in your sight, then let me not see
- 12:42my wretchedness. He needs to see his
- 12:45wretchedness. We need to see our wretchedness.
- 12:48We need to see our need for a Savior.
- 12:51We cannot save ourselves. And here look at how Moses is
- 12:55just saying, Take Me Out, God. And do we not do the same,
- 13:01friends, when things get too heavy for us?
- 13:05But perhaps that's exactly where God would want us to be backed
- 13:09against the corner where we have to rely upon him and him and him
- 13:13alone. Friends, it's the best and most
- 13:17beautiful place that a human being could ever get to, is a
- 13:21place where we see our need for repentance. 16 And the Lord said
- 13:28unto Moses, Gather unto me 70 men of the elders of Israel,
- 13:34whom you know to be the elders of the people, officers over
- 13:38them, and bring them unto the Tabernacle of the congregation,
- 13:42that they may stand there with you.
- 13:45So here God is going to institute what we know as the
- 13:49Sanhedrin. This was still being played out
- 13:53in the days of Jesus. This was the 70 elders of Israel
- 13:58and 1 high priest, the leader. And that is what is being
- 14:02modeled here in this verse. This is the first institution of
- 14:06that. And you see here that the Spirit
- 14:09of God is going to fall upon them.
- 14:11And these weren't to be made into elders.
- 14:13These were people who were already known as the leaders of
- 14:17the land. 17 And I will come down and talk with you there,
- 14:22and I will take of the Spirit which is upon you and put it
- 14:26upon them that they shall bear the burden of the people with
- 14:29you, that you bear it, not yourself alone.
- 14:33So you can see here that the weight of responsibility is too
- 14:37heavy for just one person. And this is speaking to the
- 14:45problem of putting a pastor too high up on a pedestal.
- 14:51They will fail you 10 times out of 10.
- 14:57When we elevate a man to a position that he has no place
- 15:02being in, we will be sorely disappointed every single time.
- 15:09And that is why we need to spread the responsibility out so
- 15:13that people can bear each other's burdens.
- 15:16And love covers a multitude of sin, we cannot bear it alone. 18
- 15:22And say you unto the people, sanctify yourselves against the
- 15:28Morrow, you shall eat flesh. For you have wept in the ears of
- 15:35the Lord, saying, Who shall give us flesh to eat?
- 15:40For it was well with us in Egypt.
- 15:42Therefore the Lord will give you flesh that you shall eat.
- 15:45You got to be, You got to be careful what you ask for
- 15:49friends, sometimes what we ask for the the blessings can turn
- 15:57themselves into burdens. And here God is saying, Sure, if
- 16:02you want flesh to eat, I will give it to you, but it'll be so
- 16:07much so that you become sick of it. 19 You shall not eat one
- 16:13day, nor two days, nor five days, neither 10 days nor 20
- 16:18days, 20 but even a whole month, until it comes out of your
- 16:22nostrils. And it be loath some unto you,
- 16:25because that you have despised the Lord which is among you, and
- 16:30have wet before him, saying, why we came forth out of Egypt.
- 16:35We're complaining and wanting to go back to our sinful lifestyle.
- 16:40God has LED us across dry land, He split the Red Sea.
- 16:45We're over in the wilderness, we're not yet in the promised
- 16:48land, and we desire and horror and lust after our sinful past.
- 16:54We romanticize about all the disgusting things that we used
- 16:58to do, and it is displeasing unto God.
- 17:02And he's telling them that, yes, I'll give you this flesh to eat,
- 17:06but you will be sick of it, so much so it'll spew out from your
- 17:11nostrils. 21 And Moses said, The people among whom I am are
- 17:19600,000 foot men, and you have said, I will give the flesh that
- 17:24they may eat a whole month. Here Moses is doubting God's
- 17:28provision and we can see that God is able to do anything.
- 17:33And so here Moses is calling God into the courtroom and he is
- 17:37questioning his Providence. And this 600 foot men would be
- 17:43likened to a multitude of over 2 million people. 22 Shall the
- 17:51flocks and the herds be slain for them to suffice them, or
- 17:56shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them to
- 18:00suffice them? They're in the wilderness,
- 18:01friends. There's no sea.
- 18:04You can see that Moses is being facetious here.
- 18:08And the cattle that they did have, they needed to hold on to
- 18:11so that they could breed them. They were not able to just slay
- 18:16all the cattle, because then they would have none. 23 And the
- 18:21Lord said to Moses, Is the Lord's hand waxed short?
- 18:28You shall see now whether my words shall come to pass to you
- 18:32or not. Look at how long-suffering God
- 18:36is unto His servant Moses. 24 And Moses went out.
- 18:41He told the people the words of the Lord.
- 18:43They gathered the 70 men of the elders of the people, and set
- 18:47them round and about the Tabernacle. 25 And the Lord came
- 18:51down in a cloud, and spoke unto him, and took up the Spirit that
- 18:55was upon him, and he gave it unto the 70 elders.
- 18:58And it came to pass that when the Spirit rested upon them,
- 19:02they prophesied and did not cease.
- 19:04They probably were speaking in tongues.
- 19:07Friends, this is way before any of the giftings came about that
- 19:12we see in the New Testament. We can see all the way back here
- 19:15as the same God and they prophesied about even though
- 19:20they were not given the Spirit of prophecy.
- 19:24What an amazing God that we serve.
- 19:27And you can see here it was His stamp that He has chosen this.
- 19:317020 26 But there remained 2 of the men in the camp.
- 19:36The name of the one was El Dad, in the name of the other Medad.
- 19:41And the Spirit rested upon them, and they were of them that were
- 19:45written, but were not out unto the Tabernacle, And they
- 19:50prophesied in the camp. So geographical space is nothing
- 19:57to a God who lives outside of space and time.
- 20:01And just because they were not able to gather unto the
- 20:04Tabernacle did not mean that they would not receive the
- 20:08Spirit. God can literally do anything.
- 20:1127 And there ran a young man, and told Moses, and said, Eldad
- 20:16and me, Dad, prophecy in the camp. 28 And Joshua the son of
- 20:20Nun, the servant of Moses, one of his young men, answered and
- 20:24said, My Lord, Moses forbid them, because they were not able
- 20:28to come to the tent of the Tabernacle, but they still
- 20:32received the Spirit. Here the zealousness of Joshua
- 20:38has shown, and he's saying, Moses forbid them because they
- 20:43did not come when they were told to. 29 And Moses said unto him,
- 20:48Do you envy? For my sake I wish the God that
- 20:53all the people, all of the Lord's people, were prophets,
- 20:58and that the Lord would put his Spirit upon them.
- 21:01Look at the heart of Moses here. He says that he wishes that
- 21:04everyone would receive the same Spirit.
- 21:07Perhaps they would not be murmuring and grumbling as we
- 21:11see them. 30 And Moses got him to the camp, he and the elders
- 21:16of Israel. 31 And there went forth a wind from the Lord, and
- 21:21brought quails from the sea, and let them fall by the camp, as it
- 21:25were a day's journey on this side, as it were a day's journey
- 21:29on the other side, round and about the camp, as it were two
- 21:32cubits high upon the face of the earth.
- 21:36So here we can see that God was able to bring plenty of quail
- 21:40into the camp. He has supernatural ability to
- 21:44lead migrations and flocks. He has the supernatural ability
- 21:48for fish to be caught that have coins in their mouth.
- 21:52He has a supernatural ability to make to make the axe head float.
- 21:56He has the supernatural ability to allow us to walk on the water
- 22:00friends. He can reverse diseases.
- 22:02He can restore sight to the blind.
- 22:05He can call the dead back to life.
- 22:07This God that we serve, there is nothing that he cannot do.
- 22:12Never forget it. Keep the faith. 32 The people
- 22:21stood up all that day, and all that night, and all the next
- 22:25day, and they gathered the quails.
- 22:28He that gathered least gathered 10 homers, and they spread them
- 22:32all abroad for themselves round and about the camp. 33 And while
- 22:37the flesh was yet between their teeth, here it was chewed the
- 22:41wrath. The Lord was kindled against the
- 22:43people, and the Lord struck the people with a very great plague.
- 22:4834 And he called the name of that place Kibrath Hakaba,
- 22:53because they were buried, the people that lusted.
- 22:56So here again you've got to be careful what you ask for.
- 23:00And you can see here that God provided for them, but at the
- 23:06end of the day, it was to their demise.
- 23:10And that is the problem is that sometimes we ask for things and
- 23:18we do not realize what we're asking for until it's too late.
- 23:24We'll end on 35 and the people journey from Kibrath Hatavan to
- 23:28Herzara and they abode Azara here, friends.
- 23:36We see this turning point where the Israelites have started to
- 23:44go down this dark path of questioning God and questioning
- 23:49leadership. And here we can see that just
- 23:52because they were put together in their ranks and files that
- 23:58there was still much work to do. And there is still much work to
- 24:02do in our lives. Don't forget it.
- 24:04The process of sanctification is a lifelong event, friends, and
- 24:09there is nothing better in this life than to serve God while you
- 24:14were young and to accept your lot in life.
- 24:16Never forget it. I hope you've been blessed by
- 24:19this amazing chapter, God's Word.
- 24:21I know I sure have. I'm praying for every single one
- 24:23of you. I love you.
- 24:29We'll see you back here tomorrow.
- 24:31God bless you.
