- 0:05Hello and welcome to the very first official
- 0:07episode of The Podcast Lady. I'm Abbey Graves
- 0:10and I am the Podcast Lady and I am so glad that
- 0:13you're here to join me today. If you're someone
- 0:15who's had a podcast idea sitting in your notes
- 0:17app for way too long, you are in the right place.
- 0:21Or maybe you've hit record once or twice but
- 0:23you got stuck editing and you're like, what do
- 0:25I do now? Or maybe you bought that Blue Yeti
- 0:28microphone and you're like, oh my gosh, I'm gonna
- 0:30be a famous podcaster and it's just been collecting
- 0:33dust on your shelf. We've all been there. Things
- 0:36happen. but I'm here to change it all up for
- 0:38you. Now, before we dive into what exactly you
- 0:40can expect from the podcast lady, I wanna start
- 0:42with a little story, one that if I had to guess,
- 0:44you might be able to relate to. I've been in
- 0:46the audio world for a very long time. I spent
- 0:49about 10 years working in radio broadcasting
- 0:51before I launched my own podcast production business.
- 0:54And over the last few years, I've worked with
- 0:56podcasters all over the world, from cattle ranchers
- 0:59in Melbourne, Australia, to relationship therapists
- 1:02in Knoxville, Tennessee, to nonprofits and authors
- 1:05and speakers. and personal brands, I've helped
- 1:07clients launch, grow, and scale podcasts that
- 1:10reach the exact people that they are meant to
- 1:12reach. In those couple years, I've really learned
- 1:14how to take someone's voice and vision and turn
- 1:16it into a polished, professional, and powerful
- 1:19podcast. And yet, I didn't have one of my own.
- 1:23Weird, right? It was actually my business coach
- 1:25who pointed out to me, she's like, so you're
- 1:27the podcast lady, but you don't have a podcast.
- 1:31Okay, fair enough. My favorite phrase is the
- 1:34Cobbler's Child is the last to have shoes. And
- 1:36I always viewed my own personal brand as the
- 1:39Cobbler's Child. No shoes for you. I'm busy making
- 1:41shoes for everybody else. But I reached a point
- 1:44where it's like, no, I need to really prioritize
- 1:46what I'm doing and share the knowledge that I
- 1:49have with people who really need it. And that's
- 1:51what this podcast is all about. So let's talk
- 1:53about it. What is this podcast exactly about?
- 1:56This podcast is here to make podcasting feel
- 2:00possible and accessible and doable. for you and
- 2:03your brand. Because I know how overwhelming it
- 2:05can be when you're just getting started. This
- 2:08is a whole new world. It's a whole new language
- 2:10that you have to learn. There's equipment to
- 2:12figure out. There's platforms to choose. There's
- 2:14subscriptions to manage audio to edit, which
- 2:17if you're not used to it, that is a big scary
- 2:20thing. And that's even before you share this
- 2:22podcast with the world. There is a lot of behind
- 2:25the scenes work that goes into making a podcast,
- 2:27but here's the deal. I believe that everyone
- 2:29has a unique vision and a unique voice and a
- 2:32story that is worth sharing. And I also believe
- 2:34that most people stop before they even start.
- 2:37I don't just believe that I know that I have
- 2:39seen that happen in real time Because the logistics
- 2:42get in the way of the vision and that's just
- 2:44a real life thing My goal is to remove those
- 2:47barriers. I want to be your behind -the -scenes
- 2:49bestie I want to be the person that you can turn
- 2:52to when you're having a technical difficulty
- 2:54and you're like I don't know what to do. I don't
- 2:56know how to handle this Maybe Abby has a podcast
- 2:58episode that can help me fix this problem in
- 3:01real time That is what I want to be for you.
- 3:04I want to be the person who helps you understand
- 3:06and what actually matters when it comes to podcasting
- 3:09and what doesn't matter, what you can leave behind
- 3:11and throw out the window so you can stop spinning
- 3:13your wheels and finally hit record. So I wanna
- 3:15give you a realistic vision of what you can expect
- 3:18from me, the podcast lady, every month here on
- 3:21this podcast. The first episode of the month
- 3:23is going to be a case study breakdown. I'm gonna
- 3:25be taking a podcast that I've been loving to
- 3:27listen to lately, something I'm binging or consuming
- 3:30on a more professional level, and we're gonna
- 3:33break it down. We're going to talk about the
- 3:34things that they're doing right. What's really
- 3:36resonating with me as an outside listener? What's
- 3:39resonating with people in the comments? What
- 3:41are they doing really well? And then we're also
- 3:43going to talk about some of the things that they
- 3:45can do better because even the best podcasters
- 3:47in the world can always improve. That's the beauty
- 3:50of this medium. There's always room for improvement.
- 3:53Whether it's little tweaks here and there, we're
- 3:55all going to learn and grow together in real
- 3:56time. This first episode of the month is going
- 3:58to be part fan girl, me getting to talk about
- 4:00what I love podcasts and also just those practical
- 4:03tips that we can look to others and say, hey,
- 4:05they're doing that really well, I wanna copy
- 4:07that and do that for my own show. The second
- 4:08episode of the month is going to be a practical
- 4:10tip or tool that you can apply to your own podcast.
- 4:13We're gonna dig into something that is really
- 4:15helpful, whether it's tech related, like how
- 4:17to choose the right microphone or the right hosting
- 4:19platform, or we'll get into things that are strategy
- 4:22related, like how are you promoting your show?
- 4:24What platforms are working really well right
- 4:26now? What things are people resonating with on
- 4:29social media to get them converted to be your
- 4:31podcast listeners? we're gonna dive into the
- 4:33nitty gritty of what it actually takes to make
- 4:35your podcast come to life. My goal is for you
- 4:37to finish every episode of The Podcast Lady and
- 4:40really leave with something that you can put
- 4:42into action. What's that one tip? What's that
- 4:45one thing that you learned that you can put into
- 4:47action for your own show, for your own podcast
- 4:50and really start to see some results from it.
- 4:52So you're here listening to this podcast, but
- 4:54you might be thinking... Who else is here listening
- 4:56to this podcast? Who is this podcast really for?
- 4:59Now, I mentioned that I work with all sorts of
- 5:02different podcasters from all around the world,
- 5:04cattle ranchers, speakers, authors, business
- 5:07owners. That's the beauty of podcasting. Anyone
- 5:10can have a show and be an expert in their field.
- 5:13So this podcast, The Podcast Lady, is really
- 5:15for, well, anyone, but also a very specific kind
- 5:18of person, a coach, a creative, a business owner.
- 5:22thought leader, maybe you have an idea that's
- 5:25just nagging at you and just won't leave your
- 5:26head. Maybe you're someone who's been saying,
- 5:28I really wanna start a podcast, I just don't
- 5:30know what steps to take. Or maybe you're someone
- 5:33who started a podcast once, got to episode two
- 5:35and said, this is too much work and I don't know
- 5:37what I'm doing and I'm overwhelmed. The podcast
- 5:39lady is here to fix that. I just really want
- 5:41you to know that I see you. And I've helped people
- 5:44in your exact shoes build shows that they're
- 5:47proud of and that actually move their message
- 5:49forward into the world. And now guess what? It's
- 5:51your turn to step into those shoes. You know,
- 5:53I really probably should have put this part at
- 5:55the beginning of the show now that I think about
- 5:57it. But before we go any further, I do want you
- 5:58to know a little bit more about me. My name is
- 6:02Abby. I run Abby Graves Productions out of the
- 6:04great state of Minnesota. And I help podcasters
- 6:07all around the world create shows that really
- 6:10resonate with their audiences. me up the most
- 6:13is that creative puzzle of it all. How is a show
- 6:16coming together? What audio elements are really
- 6:19standing out? What video elements can we use
- 6:21to tie it all together and share across social
- 6:23media? The fact that one podcast can be turned
- 6:26into so many different kinds of content. This
- 6:29is the base of it all and you can break off individual
- 6:31pieces to serve different platforms. I think
- 6:34podcasting is just such an incredible medium
- 6:37and I thank my lucky stars every day that I get
- 6:40to work in this industry. I think we've kind
- 6:42of reached the point where it's time to take
- 6:44the plunge, don't you think? I know you might
- 6:45be thinking, oh, this is so soon. Don't worry.
- 6:47I'm here to hold your hand through this entire
- 6:49process So if this sounds like the kind of support
- 6:51that you've been looking for to get your show
- 6:53started to get it off the ground To hit record
- 6:56finally. I'm so glad that you're here and I really
- 6:58hope that you stick around at least for a couple
- 7:00episodes Give me a couple episodes of a try.
- 7:03See if you're vibing with me. See if we match
- 7:05each other's energy I want to make sure that
- 7:07you're subscribed wherever you're listening to
- 7:09podcasts whether that's Spotify Apple I'm gonna
- 7:11be putting this on YouTube as well. I don't want
- 7:13you to miss a single moment of the action. I'm
- 7:16also on TikTok. I share a lot of behind the scenes
- 7:18content on TikTok about making podcasts and I
- 7:21just want you to know that you're not alone in
- 7:22this journey. I'm here to help you. I want to
- 7:25make sure that your show goes out into the world
- 7:27and you might be having that little voice in
- 7:29your head going, but everyone's got a podcast.
- 7:32There's a billion podcasts out there. Why does
- 7:34mine matter? Trust me. It does. Like I said,
- 7:36you have a unique voice. You have a unique story.
- 7:39You have a unique vision and that is worth putting
- 7:41out into the world. We're gonna help you find
- 7:43your audience. We're gonna help you make some
