Dr. John Rack, beloved educator and percussionist, has passed away — leaving behind a legacy of music, mentorship, and global cultural exploration. A pillar of UNCW’s music department, he shaped generations as a teacher and performer, leading the percussion program and serving as principal timpanist for the Wilmington Symphony. His passion extended to summer camps, community bands, and even Ghana, where he immersed himself in African musical traditions.
