- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by the hypnotherapist, demanded by
- 0:16celebrities, CEOs and even royalty, Adam Cox.
- 0:20These recordings took place live from Evans Clinic in London's
- 0:24world famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of the. Hypnotist Hi, it's.
- 0:40Adam here. Now you may have found yourself
- 0:44feeling very pressured in a work related environment, and that
- 0:48might be. Because of deadlines.
- 0:51Certain kind of objectives that you have to do now.
- 0:54The client that I was working with had those things, but
- 0:58mainly it was because they've moved into a new role, into a
- 1:02very competitive culture and environment, but it was kind of
- 1:07chaotic and they didn't really have the onboarding.
- 1:10The structure, the systems, the. Training and yet still expected
- 1:15to get results even if the results weren't clearly defined.
- 1:20So very ambiguous things like prove yourself and get some
- 1:24quick wins, very ambiguous things that didn't really mean
- 1:27anything. So they felt the pressure didn't
- 1:30really have the clarity in the systems, and most of the
- 1:34pressure was not coming from others, it was coming from
- 1:38themselves. Because their background was
- 1:40that in most environments they could have the resources that
- 1:44they need to understand things, and therefore that pressure they
- 1:48would put on themselves to thrive was intrinsic rather than
- 1:52extrinsic. But this was a different
- 1:54situation. They'd moved into a complex
- 1:58organization, quite political in many regards, and therefore lots
- 2:04of the variables were outside of their controls.
- 2:06Sometimes they would have to seek clarity as to what they
- 2:11could do or not do or understand systems that they'd never used
- 2:15before and therefore it wasn't possible for them to put all
- 2:20that pressure. All that pressure they were
- 2:22putting on themself wasn't really helping, it was just
- 2:25stressing them out and that was leading to more procrastination
- 2:28and self doubt. So if you can relate to the idea
- 2:31of feeling like an imposter or feeling pressure to succeed but
- 2:35not know what you're doing, this session helps because rather
- 2:39than going from having the pressure to thrive, it actually
- 2:43seeks permission to thrive. And that permission means
- 2:47actually doing what's necessary first.
- 2:49Now, there's two key metaphors in this session.
- 2:53One is the metaphor. Of.
- 2:56A foundation. So most people know that if you
- 2:59build a house on something which doesn't.
- 3:03Have proper foundations. You can build it, but it's going
- 3:06to start crumbling down very, very quickly.
- 3:09The foundation is crucial. With a strong foundation you
- 3:13could build something huge and impactful without.
- 3:18That foundation? You can't.
- 3:20Really do that. Now the second metaphor is about
- 3:23a bridge. If you imagine a very fast
- 3:26moving river and on the other side of that river is this
- 3:30wonderful place that represents thriving.
- 3:34Now if you just go straight into the river, you might be
- 3:36sploshing around and not really making much progress.
- 3:40You're fighting the currents. But if you take the time to
- 3:42build the bridge, then actually not only you can get across, but
- 3:46actually you can make it easier for other people to get to the
- 3:50same place where you're trying to get to as well.
- 3:53So if you can relate to this feeling of feeling pressured but
- 3:58without really giving yourself permission to do what's
- 4:01necessary to actually. Get good.
- 4:03And competent then you might really resonate with this now.
- 4:07It was created for a particular client in a particular
- 4:10situation, quite a complex global political organization.
- 4:16That might not be your context. So if you do want a bespoke
- 4:21session created and customized just for you, there will be a
- 4:24link in the description but also on my website adamcox.co.uk
- 4:28where you can book. A free consultation.
- 4:30Call to explore working with me. The other thing to bear in mind
- 4:34is that normally most of my sessions are recorded in my
- 4:37studio. I was travelling at the point
- 4:40where I did this, so you're actually going to see me.
- 4:42In. An apartment in Portugal and the
- 4:46audio quality was actually recorded on my portable audio
- 4:50there rather than this kind of studio mic, so it might sound a
- 4:53little bit different than the normal episodes.
- 4:58Bear that in. Mind.
- 4:59For now though. Find a quiet, comfortable place
- 5:01where you won't be distracted or disturbed.
- 5:04Relax and enjoy the session. Take a deep breath in, and as
- 5:22you breathe in, breathe in a resourceful feeling of calm and
- 5:28relaxation. And as you exhale, just allow
- 5:35any feelings of worries, stress, or tension to feel like it's
- 5:41leaving your body in your outward breath.
- 5:46That's it. Breathing in relaxation and
- 5:51exhaling tension. And just notice with your eyes
- 5:55closed, how much easier it becomes to focus on the sound of
- 6:03my voice. As you continue to breathe in
- 6:08that resourceful feeling of calm and relaxation, and as you
- 6:14exhale, feeling that every outward breath releases even
- 6:23more of that tension. I want you to scan your body for
- 6:30any clues of tension in the jaw, the neck, or the shoulders.
- 6:37That's it. And as you breathe in, notice
- 6:43you're breathing in a warm colour of relaxation, which is
- 6:46finding its way to those parts of your body that contain
- 6:50tension. Imagine it melting away any
- 6:55tension in your body, and then on the outward breath, just
- 7:02allow yourself to feel what it would feel like if that tension
- 7:07was melting away and then leaving your body in your
- 7:12outward breath. That's in each breath taking you
- 7:18deeper and deeper, relaxed. In fact, the deeper you breathe,
- 7:28the more relaxed you feel. And the more relaxed you feel
- 7:34the deeper you breathe. Each breath takes you deeper and
- 7:42deeper than the previous breath, and the more relaxed you feel,
- 7:52the more your imagination awakens.
- 7:58And I want you to imagine what it would feel like to be drawing
- 8:04a picture of the Spanish countryside, maybe it's trees
- 8:15and grass or beaches. And I want you to imagine you're
- 8:22creating a vibrant, colourful picture of Spanish nature.
- 8:31And I want you to imagine that how you describe it on that
- 8:37canvas or that paper, it doesn't have to be what it actually is
- 8:43like. It's just your representation.
- 8:50And when you've created something that feels like Spain,
- 8:57I want you to imagine what it would feel like to step into the
- 9:01picture and imagine what it would feel like if suddenly you
- 9:09were there in Spain. And I want you to connect to the
- 9:16temperature. Maybe there's blue skies and
- 9:21sunshine, but I want you to imagine wide open spaces, no one
- 9:30else around, just you. And while you're there, take a
- 9:35slow breath in and a much longer breath out.
- 9:43And as you breathe out, I wonder if you can imagine releasing
- 9:48that subtle pressure that you've been carrying.
- 9:52You know the one you've been building up that pressure.
- 9:59But imagine every outward breath is now a release valve, that
- 10:07every time you breathe out, the pressure is being released.
- 10:12And what you're releasing is pressure.
- 10:20Not your ambition, not your standards, just the pressure.
- 10:29Another breath in. And as you exhale, just imagine
- 10:34your shoulders loosening. Because here, in this moment, in
- 10:41this artistic Spain where you belong right now, you don't need
- 10:46to perform. No KPIs to hit, no objectives,
- 10:52no onboarding, just presence, breathing in and breathing out.
- 11:03In fact, you don't need to prove anything in this moment, Just
- 11:10breathing. Just being in this moment.
- 11:18And with each breath, notice how the mind begins to slow down, as
- 11:26if the constant internal commentary begins to quiet.
- 11:34Because this time isn't about performance, no objectives,
- 11:42nothing you need to do, just about connection.
- 11:51And I wonder if you can find that voice.
- 11:55Not someone else's voice, but your voice that links to that
- 12:00pressure. Maybe it says something like you
- 12:09should already know this, you shouldn't need to ask for help.
- 12:16Thriving means independence. And I want you to observe that
- 12:25voice. Maybe it has a location, a
- 12:30tonality. Maybe it's pushy, demanding.
- 12:35Just notice it. And I want you to be grateful
- 12:41for that part because in so many areas of your life, that
- 12:49demanding part has served you well.
- 12:53In fact, in any environment where you control the majority
- 12:58of the variables, that part is an ally.
- 13:06But the same part that thrives in one environment may struggle
- 13:13in another. Mozart may be a genius on the
- 13:18piano but struggle to draw, and Miro could create incredible
- 13:27works of art, but maybe playing football or climbing a rock face
- 13:37wouldn't play him to his strengths there.
- 13:43And what if this part that works so well when you're in control,
- 13:52just pals on the pressure in environments where you need
- 13:59clarity, you need understanding, you need to know the systems.
- 14:11And I want you to ask yourself, where did that voice come from?
- 14:17Was it linked to a belief, a time in childhood, a time when
- 14:23you had to prove yourself? I want you to get a sense then
- 14:31No architect is expected to build without solid foundations,
- 14:40and no leader can be expected to govern without structure.
- 14:46And no ambassador can thrive without knowing the lay of the
- 14:51land and gathering intelligence. And what if what you've been
- 14:58calling pressure is actually your high standards, distorted
- 15:06by urgency? What if you're not behind?
- 15:13You're just laying the foundations in which to thrive.
- 15:20And I want you to imagine there in Spain, you're on a large open
- 15:26piece of land, maybe fields, but wide open spaces.
- 15:36And I want you to get a sense that this land represents your
- 15:39role, expansive, important, high stakes.
- 15:49You want to build a tower, something that can be seen for
- 15:55miles around. But what if, instead of rushing
- 16:00to build the tower, you realize that that big tower built on
- 16:09weak foundations will crumble very soon, and you'd rather
- 16:16build something that lasts, that impacts, that does what you want
- 16:24it to do. So imagine kneeling down there
- 16:29in that open land, and just imagine what laying foundations
- 16:36would feel like. Maybe it's digging deep, maybe
- 16:43it's adding cement, maybe foundation stones.
- 16:52And what if each foundation stone represent something
- 16:56powerful, something necessary? Things like clarity, clearly
- 17:05defined KPIs, process, understanding, delegation
- 17:12structure, strategic reconnaissance, and you notice
- 17:20something. Nobody really admires the
- 17:25foundations, the biggest skyscrapers and towers and
- 17:31structures. Those foundations are ignored.
- 17:38But without the strong, deep foundations, that impressive
- 17:44structure would not exist. And I want you to congratulate
- 17:51yourself on the foundations that you've laid so far.
- 17:56And what if, rather than rushing to build the tower, you're keen
- 18:04to be diligent, thorough, focused on laying those deep,
- 18:13strong foundations? Reminding yourself that
- 18:21foundations aren't visible from the outside, but they determine
- 18:25everything that stands above. Thriving is not about paddling
- 18:32harder in deep water, just staying above the surface.
- 18:38It's about building something stable enough that you no longer
- 18:41need to paddle. So imagine each stone you place
- 18:47in that foundation feels calm, deliberate, intentional.
- 18:56You are not reacting and you're not behind.
- 19:00You are constructing. And construction requires time.
- 19:08It requires sequencing. It requires patience.
- 19:15And that patience is not weakness.
- 19:19Consider it executive maturity, and I wonder if you can imagine
- 19:29the foundations are built. And I want you to imagine
- 19:35building a huge tower upon those foundations.
- 19:43Imagine it's a tower that could contain a gallery.
- 19:49You could admire the gallery and the structure, but only when the
- 19:54foundations are solid. And then when you leave the
- 20:00gallery there, in that expansive land in Spain, I want you to
- 20:06notice something ahead of you. A river.
- 20:11A deep, fast running water. And that river?
- 20:19That river represents the culture, fast moving,
- 20:24competitive, swirling, chaotic, unpredictable.
- 20:32And on the other side of that river, we can just call it a
- 20:36magical land called thriving. And you can see it clearly.
- 20:44You can see that calm authority, confident decision making,
- 20:51strategic engagement, not frantic energy, just composed
- 20:58leadership. And instead of diving into the
- 21:04river, you begin building a bridge.
- 21:09Each plank is something practical.
- 21:13Maybe part of that bridge is clarifying expectations,
- 21:20figuring out what success even looks like.
- 21:24Maybe it's about asking intelligent questions from that
- 21:29place of curiosity, or treating and learning new systems like
- 21:35reconnaissance. And each time a bit more of that
- 21:44bridge is built, consider leading your team through
- 21:51structure. And what if so many other people
- 21:58think they're thriving when they're just splashing around in
- 22:02the river? Wouldn't it make sense that when
- 22:08you build that bridge, the kind of bridge that means that future
- 22:14people in your organization don't have to splash around in
- 22:20the water, they could just follow the pathway on the bridge
- 22:27that you have built. That is structure, that is
- 22:31legacy. And I want you to get a sense of
- 22:35what that bridge would look like.
- 22:40Is it a creative bridge? Is it a simple bridge?
- 22:47Is it mechanical or wooden? Get a sense of what that bridge
- 22:52looks like and then imagine crossing the river on that
- 22:57bridge and get a feeling of how stable, strong, solid and
- 23:05structured it feels. I want you to get a sense that
- 23:12too many people in the past were so keen to get to the other
- 23:17side, instead of building a bridge, they just jumped
- 23:23straight into the river. But that river has got fast
- 23:28currents and sometimes, sometimes it isn't sink or swim,
- 23:36it's just frantic splashing about that feels like success,
- 23:44but the main things don't get done.
- 23:48And what if by building a bridge, you avoid the burnout?
- 23:53For those people that were so keen to thrive, they never
- 23:58figured out how to avoid that wasted energy of fighting the
- 24:05currents of the river. Each time you take a step over
- 24:12the bridge, the distance between where you are and where you want
- 24:20to be becomes smaller. And you don't need to swim and
- 24:27you don't need to struggle. You simply build your own way
- 24:32across, because giving yourself permission to thrive is not a
- 24:39leap, it's a sequence. And every time you choose
- 24:46clarity over pressure, you're taking another step across that
- 24:51bridge. And I wonder if you could take a
- 24:58pause halfway across that bridge, reflect on something
- 25:06perhaps that you needed to fully appreciate.
- 25:12You were never incapable and never behind.
- 25:17You were just navigating ambiguity without the necessary
- 25:23structure or clarity. And that's not a character flaw.
- 25:29That's an environmental variable.
- 25:35So as you stand on the bridge looking out at what thriving
- 25:38looks like, but also colleagues splashing about in the fast
- 25:44moving river, hear that same voice that was piling on the
- 25:50pressure, say these words repeat internally after me.
- 25:59I give myself permission to build, I give myself permission
- 26:07to learn, I give myself permission to ask, and I give
- 26:18myself permission to thrive on my timeline.
- 26:25And maybe you can already notice how different that feels
- 26:29compared to I must prove myself because pressure contracts and
- 26:37permission expands. And what if expansion is the
- 26:43very place where leadership lives?
- 26:49If you wanted something predictable and known, you would
- 26:53have stained, stayed where you were before.
- 26:57You wanted this challenge and you have found the challenge.
- 27:05But let's shift from feeling a pressure to thrive to giving
- 27:13yourself permission to thrive. So now continue walking across
- 27:20the bridge and finally step onto the other side.
- 27:28And I want you to get a feeling that thriving doesn't feel
- 27:32dramatic. No balloons and a round of
- 27:36applause. Just notice that when you're
- 27:40thriving, it actually feels stable.
- 27:44It feels clear. You notice that you still ask
- 27:49questions, but from a position of refinement, clarifying
- 27:54distinctions. You're still learning, but most
- 28:00of the learning has been done. Now it's the icing on the cake
- 28:04and not the cake itself. You still face unknowns, but
- 28:11they're no longer a threat that blindsides you.
- 28:16They feel like something manageable that enhances your
- 28:20ability to become even more valuable and resilient.
- 28:29I want you to get a sense that even if you're travelling
- 28:32halfway across the world, consider it as reconnaissance
- 28:39rather than a do or die high stakes situation.
- 28:44You can treat the KPIs as architecture, that blueprint of
- 28:51what it would take to build that structure, that tower.
- 28:57And you can treat micromanagement as information
- 29:01about system instability. Not your worth.
- 29:06What if the person you're learning from is still splashing
- 29:11around in the river because they never built the bridge or laid
- 29:18the foundations to give themself permission to thrive?
- 29:25Because thriving was never about not needing support.
- 29:30Thriving is about knowing what to build and building it
- 29:34deliberately. You're not paddling or splashing
- 29:39around in the water anymore. You are laying the foundations,
- 29:44building the bridge. You are designing that future.
- 29:51So let's think about that future.
- 29:54Imagine a moment in the near future, maybe days, weeks, or
- 29:57months away. Think about speaking to that
- 30:03boss, that management, calm, clear, structured.
- 30:10Imagine having conversations where you're discussing
- 30:12objectives and outcomes not from insecurity, but from authority,
- 30:18clarity. Imagine yourself meeting
- 30:24important people in different parts of the world.
- 30:27Curious, observant, strategic. You're not trying to prove you
- 30:33belong. You're finding those synergistic
- 30:37strategic relationships. You are opening doors.
- 30:44See that future version of you? Comfortable in your own skin,
- 30:50knowing your worth, knowing you belong because you are building
- 30:55something valuable and valuable things need to be built right on
- 31:02strong foundations. So as you breathe in and breathe
- 31:08out, just allow the foundations, the bridge and the other side to
- 31:13integrate. Maybe you can feel shifts,
- 31:19changes in energy, posture, movement in your body.
- 31:27Give permission for your nervous system to align with this new
- 31:33timeline. You build the foundations first
- 31:37and then you build something impressive on top.
- 31:41You build the bridge 1st and then on the other side, that's
- 31:46where you thrive and maybe you can feel that sense of less
- 31:51urgency, more steadiness. Pressure is optional,
- 32:00Construction is intentional and thriving.
- 32:06That is architectural. You can only thrive when you've
- 32:12built those foundations that are strong and you are allowed to
- 32:18build and you are allowed to thrive.
- 32:23So take 1 deep slow breath in and as you exhale, release any
- 32:30remaining pressure and just get a sense that it feels winnable.
- 32:40Get a sense of what building that bridge and laying those
- 32:44foundations mean in your world. What do you need to know that
- 32:50you don't know yet? What questions does it make
- 32:54sense to ask? And how can you find shortcuts
- 32:58to learn what you would benefit from knowing?
- 33:04And all of those things are achievable.
- 33:08And all of those things take place 1 brick or one step at a
- 33:17time. And when your unconscious has
- 33:22integrated these new concepts, timelines, and ways of thinking
- 33:27into your life and your reality, let me know about nodding your
- 33:31head. That's it.
- 33:35And notice you still have permission to thrive.
- 33:45But it works on your timelines now.
- 33:49So take a deep breath in and exhale, then an even deeper
- 33:56breath in through your nose and out through your nose.
- 34:02Just wiggle your fingers, wiggle your toes, connect and calibrate
- 34:05into the here and the now as I now count from 1:00 to 10:00 to
- 34:10awaken you. You will return from the other
- 34:16side, from the bridge, from the open land of Spain, back through
- 34:21the picture, back into your reality, taking all these
- 34:24changes with you starting to count. 123 waking up. 456 more
- 34:32alert. 7-8 open your eyes, open your eyes. 910 wide awake, wide
- 34:39awake, wide awake. Thank you.
