Transcript
- 0:18I'm Jessica and this is Teba Kay Rambles, where a couple of
- 0:21friends review Korean dramas, except we're not reviewing a
- 0:23Korean drama. Today we are actually going to
- 0:27talk about the first Taiwanese drama of the TIPAC podcast in
- 0:34general. Like we have never covered a
- 0:35Taiwanese drama ever. Yes, I know my guest for this
- 0:39episode is Carol from the K Drama Musings podcast.
- 0:43Carol, it is so wonderful to see you and to have you back on the
- 0:47pod. How are you?
- 0:49I am good, how are you? It's been so long and I can't
- 0:52believe this is your first TW. Review.
- 0:56I know I haven't I haven't done any Taiwanese dramas on the
- 1:01podcast. It's so strange and it feels
- 1:03wonderful to be talking with you again.
- 1:05It's been a while, like you said, even though we've been
- 1:07talking back and forth in the DMSA lot and sending voice
- 1:11messages and stuff. We haven't done a podcast
- 1:13together since the Coffee Prints episode.
- 1:16Which. We we did the coffee prints
- 1:21episode on yours, but we did do the 2023 wrap up.
- 1:26On you're right, we did the 2023 wrap up over on your podcast K
- 1:30Drama Musings, and that was a lot of fun because there was a
- 1:34lot of contention both of dramas from 2023 and it was a lot of
- 1:40fun. So go back if you haven't
- 1:41listened to that and you want to hear our thoughts on the 2023
- 1:46dramas the year, go back and check it out on Carol's K drama
- 1:50musings podcast. And of course, if you want to
- 1:52hear Carol on Tabak, there's a bunch of episodes.

- 3:10Love you guys. All right, so we're going to get
- 3:13into this drama. I can't believe we're here,
- 3:17honestly. So the whole the whole reason
- 3:22why I want first of all, the whole reason why I wanted to do
- 3:24Autumn's Concerto was I stacked this season, season five of
- 3:28Tabak with just dramas that I wanted to watch or rewatch.
- 3:33And for some reason, Carol, I was like feeling Autumn's
- 3:37Concerto. I was like, I don't know where I
- 3:39was talk and what's it with you or was I can't reverse with
- 3:43someone else. But like we were commiserating
- 3:45about Autumns Concerto and I was like, oh, we got to circle back
- 3:48on this. Now here we are and we're about
- 3:52to do it. OK, so for those of you who
- 3:54don't know what it's about, this is the My Drama List synopsis.
- 4:00I don't know why I'm already laughing.
- 4:01OK. Fran Guanxi, a cocky law
- 4:04student, seems to lead the perfect life.
- 4:06He's the sole successor to a huge and famous business and is
- 4:10a talented ice hockey player. But in reality, his lonely life
- 4:13lacks joy, laughter, and motivation.
- 4:17That is until he meets Liang Mushang MU Sheng, the new Bento
- 4:21seller at his school canteen. A harmless bet Harmless.
- 4:25OK brings the two together. Guangxi slowly changes as MU
- 4:30Sheng teaches him how to give and love.
- 4:33Tragedy strikes when Guangxi suddenly has to go through a
- 4:37major brain surgery which causes him to lose his memory.
- 4:41So for those of you who didn't quite catch that this is an
- 4:44amnesia plot line, OK, A very iconic amnesia plotline.
- 4:50This whole show is pretty iconic.
- 4:51OK, so it aired in October 2009. You heard that 2009 and it ended
- 5:00in February of 2010. So a good several months on
- 5:05there that this was airing. It's about 34 episodes long, but
- 5:10I think when it was airing, it was airing an hour and a half
- 5:13episodes, so they were airing it on TV as 21 episodes.
- 5:20OK, OK. Yeah, when I watched it, I
- 5:24watched it on Crunchyroll. That was like when Crunchyroll
- 5:28had C dramas and K dramas. So yeah, that was a long time
- 5:33ago. Yeah, So it's The show is
- 5:39written and directed by 10 Wei Ling.
- 5:43She the most recent thing that she's done is The Left Ear from
- 5:462023. She's also done Material Queen,
- 5:49Year of the Rain, The Shining Days.
- 5:51One minute more. I don't know if you've seen
- 5:55anything from this writer director.
- 5:57Me neither. All right.
- 5:59It's written by Frankie Chen, and she's also been a producer
- 6:03for these two. I threw in there because I
- 6:05recognize them. Frankie Chen has produced Fated
- 6:09to Love You from 2008. Oh my gosh, the original. 08/08
- 6:17An easy fortune, happy life from 2009.
- 6:21Oh I love OK OK now I just pulled her up because I love
- 6:28Ying Yang 3. OK.
- 6:30But one it is so it's a high school drama.
- 6:33It was so good. And I remember I saw it in Ghana
- 6:39on the Internet. I used to skip school for that
- 6:42one. And then yeah, yeah.
- 6:46Like I was. That's if I say Ying Yi 3, my
- 6:50siblings automatically say tier one, like just to that's how
- 6:55much we loved it. Oh.
- 6:57Oh my gosh, so you and Frankie Chen have a good history.
- 7:00You and the screenwriter. Nice.
- 7:03And then she's also written the wolf from 2020, which I thought
- 7:07was hysterical. I I remember watching this.
- 7:11It's a sea drama. It he like it's a, it's like a
- 7:14feral child type deal. He's like raised by wolves and
- 7:19then he grows up to be this very powerful general with like wolf
- 7:22like tendencies. It's weird.
- 7:24I didn't finish it. I couldn't finish it, but she
- 7:28wrote The Wolf, so I think everyone would probably just
- 7:33want us to skip to the cast. So the cast for Autumns Ganjerto
- 7:38is Vanis Wu as Rang Guanxi. He's been in, I don't know,
- 7:46Meteor Garden from 2001 and the sequel Meteor Garden Two.
- 7:53That is where everyone he is part of F4.
- 7:57Yes. Like everyone knows Venice from
- 8:01Meteor Garden. He's that guy.
- 8:05And then he went on to have like a successful career and he's a
- 8:09mogul basically now. He sings, he dances, he
- 8:13produces, and he hasn't done a drama since 2018.
- 8:17For those of you who like to follow me over on the drama trio
- 8:21on Liliana's podcast Tian Soju, we did a review of the Princess
- 8:26Wei Young, which Venice is also in that show.
- 8:31That's a classic 26 I know. So all this to say, Venice is
- 8:39the male lead of Autumn's concerto, his Co star.
- 8:43The female lead is Addie Ann. She plays.
- 8:46Oh my God, she is gorgeous. Stunning.
- 8:52I was watching it again yesterday and I'm just like now
- 8:56wait a minute, I I don't remember her being this
- 9:00beautiful. What the hell?
- 9:02Right. And in like 2008 get up like.
- 9:09That's a belt with a belt on the hips and the layering of the
- 9:15tank. The.
- 9:15Layering of the tank tops killed me.
- 9:19Oh my gosh, the severe. Bangs.
- 9:22Oh man. So then that's her and then
- 9:26Benny Wen plays Xiaola, the little boy, their son, and then
- 9:32Chris Wu. Not that Chris Wu, not with AK
- 9:36Chris spelled Chris Wu plays Hartwell.
- 9:41Yeah, and he's the second male lead.
- 9:43That's this show was his first drama role ever and he's
- 9:48actually been consist more consistently acting then the
- 9:52rest of the cast. Like he has a lot of filmography
- 9:55to his name actually. And then the last person I'll
- 9:58say is Tiffany Hsu, who plays Yi Chian slash Emily.
- 10:02She's the second female lead and I know her from it started with
- 10:07a kiss slash, They Kiss Again, which is a really old show,
- 10:112005. And then they the sequel They
- 10:14Kiss Again is from O7. When I saw her, I like flipped
- 10:17out. I was like, Oh my God, I
- 10:19remember this girl. So deep is so deep.
- 10:21So this is the main cast. This is a large ensemble cast.
- 10:25Like, there's more people from the village and there's more
- 10:28people from the families and stuff, but really, this is our
- 10:32core cast. So what do you like, what do you
- 10:37think about this cast? And after that, what do you
- 10:43think about Autumns Concerto? OK, I love the cast.
- 10:49I'll start with the cast. I love the cast.
- 10:51I think they fit well together. I think Tiffany Shoe, by the
- 10:55time I had watched her in this, seemed to always play this role.
- 11:02Uh huh. Of like, I love the guy, he
- 11:06likes someone else, you know, circumstances or her forces him
- 11:11to be with her. She discovers or she finally
- 11:16accepts that he doesn't like her.
- 11:17Like she'd been typecast into a role like that for a while.
- 11:22And so when I saw her in this, I just here we go again, of
- 11:27course. But she's she's really good at
- 11:30playing that. Yeah, like this long-suffering
- 11:35second female lead who's not. There's nothing inherently wrong
- 11:39with her, she's just a wrong one.
- 11:42Wrong. Exactly, exactly.
- 11:45And then we come to Addie. I don't think I've seen her in
- 11:48anything else, or I can't remember if I've seen her in
- 11:52anything else, but loved her in this.
- 11:55I loved how she she had spunk and yet she was just like this
- 12:01delicate flower you wanted to protect.
- 12:04Yeah, she was very. Well, Chang was the.
- 12:10Domestic complicate. She was domestic and I think
- 12:16when I, so I saw Mars before I saw this one and I think it had
- 12:25sort of that very similar line of trigger warning the family
- 12:32member wanting to have their way with her and it just, it just
- 12:37made me feel a type of way when I saw it again.
- 12:40This OK for those who don't know, like if the plot that I
- 12:46read the synopsis didn't give it away.
- 12:49This is a heavy-handed melodrama.
- 12:53It is a vintage drama. You have a lot of toxicity
- 12:58coming from the male lead at various points in the show.
- 13:02You have a very calm, shy domestic female lead who's but
- 13:11just perfect in every way. Like she's just a pleasant
- 13:15personality. And you have to obviously
- 13:20there's love rivals. You have to a female, a second
- 13:23female lead and a second male lead, Amnesia, a disapproving
- 13:28parents, a love child like you would name it.
- 13:31It's in this show. So and it the the fact that
- 13:36everything is in this show, like Arroco Mango is just everything.
- 13:40And the fact that I still, it's still holds such a special spot
- 13:44in my heart. Like, I don't know why me, along
- 13:49with everybody else who loves a show and remembers it and has
- 13:53nostalgia for it, there's something about it.
- 13:56Like, I don't know, it's there's a lot of stuff that would never
- 13:59fly today in the show, but for some reason I'm watching it and
- 14:03I'm like, but like, I could see, I could see the way out.
- 14:07Like it's not that bad. I agree the show itself I think
- 14:12I I forgot everything that happened before they got
- 14:17together because it was very like you said it was vintage so
- 14:21the guys were just obnoxious, annoying, borderline bullying.
- 14:29But then also you're the only person I want to protect and I'm
- 14:33just like where's the gross Y'all are so stuck.
- 14:38Today it's bad, it's bad. Oh, before we go any further,
- 14:42this episode, just like every other Chinese drama review that
- 14:45we do on Tabak. No non spoiler section.
- 14:49OK, we will be spoiling this from the gecko.
- 14:52We've already said a bunch of stuff already and the synopsis
- 14:55of the show already gave away a lot.
- 14:58I think like a big part of the show, which is the amnesia
- 15:01plotline. But obviously if you don't care
- 15:04about spoilers, then keep listening.
- 15:07Or if you've watched the show, keep listening.
- 15:08But if you if you really want to preserve your first watch of the
- 15:12show, then come back later after you've watched it.
- 15:15But obviously we're going to have a lot of fun just talking
- 15:18about this openly from the get go.
- 15:20This is not a traditional episode of Tabak.
- 15:25Just like all the other Chinese dramas.
- 15:27We're going to spoil it. We're going to come in hot with
- 15:30the spoilers, so keep going. Back to you, girl.
- 15:34OK, I will. I will preface this with I love
- 15:39I don't love an amnesia trope, but I love the love child trope.
- 15:46Right, that's a. Great point.
- 15:49My first ever spicy romance book that I wrote when I was in grade
- 15:566 was a story of a love child situation.
- 16:00You wrote Wait I gotta unpack this way.
- 16:04You wrote a love child like fiction story.
- 16:10Spicy. Spicy story in story What?
- 16:14What grade was it? Six Grade 6.
- 16:19Let me tell you, I still have it but it's like I've hidden it.
- 16:24But it is the IT was the worst experience because my dad found
- 16:29it and and my dad woke me up in the middle of the night and he
- 16:34was with my mom and they read my book out loud to me.
- 16:38No. And yo, it's traumatic.
- 16:41That's why the book is hidden. It's just, it's just in my
- 16:45closet somewhere. I have chills right now.
- 16:48I have chills. This really happened to you?
- 16:50This happened to you? It was so bad.
- 16:54It was so bad. I.
- 16:56Don't know how we do. We have to unpack this trauma
- 16:59right now. There's so much trauma in this
- 17:02show and you're just like, this happened to me.
- 17:04Like, so you said this so nonchalantly.
- 17:06I have to say this is kind of traumatic.
- 17:11My mom, my dad was sitting at the end of the table and my mom
- 17:14by him and my mom was just crying through like sorry,
- 17:19what's the age limit on your thing?
- 17:23H limit. Oh, no, no.
- 17:25OK, my dad was reading about this character like getting a
- 17:31blowjob Cornelingus. There was like BDSM and my and
- 17:37my mom, my mom is freaking out because she's like, where did
- 17:41you where did you get this? Like, why do you know that?
- 17:44And she's crying and they're both in the ministry or were in
- 17:49the ministry. So it was, it was a lot.
- 17:52It was a lot for them, but. It is a pastor's kid.
- 17:56Oh yeah. I had no idea until right now.
- 17:59This changes everything. I'm even more traumatized for
- 18:02you. Oh my God.
- 18:08Yeah, so. OK.
- 18:12I love this trope. OK, so you love the you were you
- 18:16were writing this trope when you were in 6th grade.
- 18:20Yes. OK OK and for those who have
- 18:23never watched the show and you're just listening for shits
- 18:26and gigs, even though even though you don't care about
- 18:28spoilers or whatever, this show doesn't have any blow jobs or
- 18:32BDSM or anything like that. Like Carol took it a step
- 18:36further. This show is very vanilla OK
- 18:40compared to her for fan fake that she wrote in 6th grade.
- 18:46Oh my God, that is very true. People, This is a good show.
- 18:51It's a family show, if you will. It's a.
- 18:53Family show. OK, I'm trying not to wheeze in
- 19:00the mic right now because oh man, let's get back on topic.
- 19:04Let's get back to Autumn's concerto.
- 19:06So oh man, sorry, sorry. So when he starts like courting
- 19:14her, I was just like, you're so annoying.
- 19:17And the whole like bets thing. Let's make a bet if you can.
- 19:21You know, I was just like. Fell.
- 19:26It felt very it felt very much like Meteor Garden.
- 19:31Yeah, yeah. I was just like, OK, this is the
- 19:35Rove Vanessa place. OK, fine.
- 19:37I mean, I will take it. And him and his T-shirts with
- 19:41the deep, wide beast. Carol, I'm losing myself over
- 19:49here. I can't even breathe right.
- 19:52The OK, they gave Venice like the sluttiest outfits for this
- 19:57show because he had like those deep VS like you could see his
- 20:01chest for like a lot of the show.
- 20:04And let me tell you, he had no business.
- 20:07Wearing the the clothes were not wearing him.
- 20:10He was wearing the clothes and he looked too good.
- 20:14Like Van Ness looked so good, so good in the show even today,
- 20:20like even his hair and stuff. I was like, I can deal with
- 20:23that. Like like the Bieber cut, the
- 20:28aggressive shaggy hair that he had in the front half of the
- 20:32show. I was like, it's whatever.
- 20:34Like it's fine. He looks so good it doesn't even
- 20:37matter. And then later when he cuts it
- 20:39as an adult, forget it, forget it.
- 20:43He's going to hurt. Oh my God, the gratuity of the
- 20:49shirtless scenes with the and the and the shower shots with
- 20:53Venice. I was like how?
- 20:55Is remember, remember that scene where he takes a shower?
- 21:05He forces her to come to his place right to marry him.
- 21:10Oh yeah. And then he goes to take a
- 21:12shower and he comes back and I was just like, what am I
- 21:18supposed to be thinking right now?
- 21:20What am I? I know, I know because she feels
- 21:23so this is we're jumping around crazy right now.
- 21:26But anyway, this is later in the show.
- 21:28OK. And yeah, 'cause she feels super
- 21:31uncomfortable, she's walking on egg shells around him, 'cause
- 21:35he's super volatile at this point in the show, He's he's
- 21:39testing her and trying to get her to prove her sincerity and
- 21:44her love for him. He doesn't know how she feels.
- 21:46Instead of asking her outright and waiting to hear her answer,
- 21:49he's just like, rolling with it, like steamrolling career.
- 21:53And he gets out of the shower looking like he does, looking
- 21:59like he does. And I'm like, baby, you can save
- 22:03him. Like you can change him.
- 22:05It's OK. Anything is possible.
- 22:11Anything is POD just pray for him and like move, move on.
- 22:15Like just it's very, it's conflicting because where, why
- 22:22do I feel the feminism like leaving my body?
- 22:26You know what I'm saying? Oh.
- 22:28My God. But then the next scene is so
- 22:33brutal because he like, really comes on to her.
- 22:35It's like an attempted sexual assault.
- 22:39And I'm like feeling so badly for her.
- 22:43She's crying. And he, he's like, why are you?
- 22:46Why are you crying? And I'm like, look what's
- 22:48happening. Like, oh, man, it's bad.
- 22:51It's so toxic. It's just like a red flag.
- 22:55Like once you see a green flag from him, you'll see like 10 red
- 22:59flags. It's like, no, yeah.
- 23:03He wasn't, he wasn't a stable character like like her friend
- 23:10was Chris Wu's character, but even Chris Wu's character
- 23:14towards the end, I was just like, I can't deal with you.
- 23:18I'm just gonna. Get so my problem with the
- 23:20second male lead in this is that he was nice to her to get
- 23:25something out of her. Oh.
- 23:28Tell me, is this a is this a hot take?
- 23:30So weird. If you have never watched this
- 23:34show you are lost but I'm sorry. So the second middle lead Hua
- 23:39tho ye like he was nice to her and stayed in touch with her and
- 23:45helped her out. Took her to his town to live
- 23:48even though she was pregnant with the baby and stuff.
- 23:53All because he was hoping that she would give him a shot, that
- 23:57he would be the guy for her. And there was at no point, even
- 24:02though he never forced anything on her.
- 24:05Yeah, That doesn't negate the fact that if she outright said,
- 24:09why don't you just stop with this little game that you're
- 24:13playing, I'm not gonna be with you ever.
- 24:17You have a 0% chance he would have like cut her off.
- 24:24To me. I girl, I don't know, I'm
- 24:30feeling like he was doing it all just to.
- 24:35I agree, he was doing it all just to like be around and then
- 24:40eventually she'll see my worth and she'll give me a shot.
- 24:44Correct, correct. But I think that.
- 24:47Wrong. Is it wrong?
- 24:54Is it wrong? I think you should be nice to
- 24:57people because they're your friends.
- 25:01You have you have things in common, you enjoy their company,
- 25:05not because I'm going to get something out of them.
- 25:10OK. You know they have inherent
- 25:12worth. I OK, I feel.
- 25:17Me like he was like oh like he was doing too much.
- 25:23If he did he he thought he had zero chance with her, that
- 25:27relationship would have been a fraction of what it was.
- 25:31Ah, yeah, yeah, I agree. Because when you think about it,
- 25:37he just sort of left her in the village.
- 25:40He wasn't always around her, at least what they showed us.
- 25:44Until our guy comes to the village and he hears the name
- 25:52and then all of a sudden he's crowding her again.
- 25:56Right. But he was, he was over here.
- 25:59Like giving the kid a bath. Oh, that.
- 26:03That scene was so cute. Well, well, so I had issues with
- 26:09this because. Wait, wait, wait, wait wait
- 26:11which? Which?
- 26:12Who are you talking about? I'm talking about the second
- 26:14male lead. That the second male lead was
- 26:16like, oh, like let's go. I'll give you, I'll give what's
- 26:19the kid's name? Xiaola.
- 26:23A bath, like bath time or whatever, 'cause she's doing
- 26:26everything. She's a single mom, Yeah.
- 26:28So he's helping her out every so often and coming over to play
- 26:33with the kid and just take care of him.
- 26:35And I was like, bath time is not something that I would assign,
- 26:39you know what I'm saying? Yeah, yeah.
- 26:42Why don't you wash the dishes and then I'll go give my child
- 26:46the bath like there was. I've watched too much true crime
- 26:51lately and I grew up in a Hispanic household that's like,
- 26:57no. OK.
- 26:59Absolutely not I. I get you.
- 27:03And at the same time, I think like there was that culture of
- 27:09going to bath houses together and and you know, taking care of
- 27:14the kid and you could say he did change this kids diapers and
- 27:19he's like he's like an uncle to the kid again.
- 27:24Would I do it? No showing what I know, but but
- 27:30at the same time, you could have said, well, he would have been a
- 27:35better option than Vanessa having that shower scene with
- 27:41the kid that was that would be too much.
- 27:45Come on, that's. Controversial.
- 27:47So you think that the second my lead should have had this?
- 27:52Like that scene with Shaola? If the scene were to be had, I
- 27:59think. This is a true rambles.
- 28:01Let me just say like we are literally like going to the
- 28:04minutiae right now and we're we're not even at the beginning
- 28:08of the show. We are nowhere near the
- 28:10beginning of the show. So.
- 28:12OK, we'll, we'll bring it back. We'll we'll, we'll rewind it,
- 28:15but OK, OK. What's your thoughts on this?
- 28:18If that scene were to be had right, I would rather an uncle
- 28:27air quotes who has been with him from beginning till now have
- 28:33that, you know, having a shower with him for him, whatever you
- 28:38want to call it versus someone who was in my past showed up.
- 28:44It's been like what, maybe 3 weeks and you're having not a
- 28:48shower with your kid? It hasn't even been three weeks.
- 28:52I think he was there for a week. Exactly.
- 28:54Ain't no way. Ain't no way.
- 28:56So I agree with that. No, I agree with that second
- 28:59part where you were like, I don't agree with the biological
- 29:03dad basically having this, this. Moment.
- 29:08License to take a bath, a literal bath with his biological
- 29:14son Shaola, who has they know either.
- 29:18Neither of them has any idea that they're blood relation.
- 29:22Exactly. And when they cut to I, I
- 29:25blocked this from my memory. So he goes, oh, I'm going to
- 29:28give him a bath. And I was like, give him a bath.
- 29:29I had this reaction. I was like, why is he going to
- 29:33give him a bath? I understand.
- 29:34Like, we as the audience know he's the dad.
- 29:37He has no idea. The kid has no idea.
- 29:38The mom, MU Cheng, why would she allow this, especially with the
- 29:45fiance's right there, like his fiancee, Yu Chiang showing up
- 29:49that night. And why is this OK?
- 29:52So then they cut to them having this bath, which I thought I
- 29:59literally blocked it because I thought, oh, he's going to be
- 30:01giving the kid a bath. No, they're sitting in this tiny
- 30:05tub. Van Ness is butt naked.
- 30:09There's a little, like, towel on top of his private parts.
- 30:15And he's literally giving this kid a bath, like scrubbing them
- 30:18down. They're full of bubbles.
- 30:19And I'm like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 30:25I couldn't believe it. I was like, how did I forget
- 30:29this? And yeah, absolutely.
- 30:32There's a bath culture in in Southeast Asia.
- 30:36Yeah, bath house culture. But this took me clean out.
- 30:40Like, I was like, Oh my God, this is so wrong on so many
- 30:44levels. I Yes.
- 30:47OK, we're on the same. Page.
- 30:49No, we're on the same page. You're just saying the lesser of
- 30:53two evils would have been to have that scene with the second
- 30:56Mill lead. Exactly.
- 30:58Who literally was the like held him first when he was a child,
- 31:01when he was a exactly. I see what you're saying, but
- 31:06like it's it's a no on both counts for me.
- 31:09Like if I was her, I would have been like nobody gets to get my
- 31:12get a math, just me. So it's it was rough.
- 31:16It was rough. So let's let's rewind it.
- 31:19Let's rewind it back and go to the beginning of the ship.
- 31:22No, it's fine. So oh man, so we were talking
- 31:26about bets and stuff. So this is let's talk about
- 31:30episode one and two, because this meet cue is bizarre.
- 31:34It is so bizarre. There's like she's a fish.
- 31:40She works in the fish market in this town, I think outside of
- 31:45Taipei is what I understand. And she gets this giant grouper
- 31:51in a bag that's comically the fish is too large or the bag is
- 31:56too small and there's a little bit of water in it.
- 31:59And they're like, you got to get home inside an hour so that that
- 32:02fish is still alive. And she's like, OK, she's on a
- 32:05time assignment. She gets on this bus.
- 32:09Who stops the bus with his erratic driving?
- 32:13The male lead gunshit. He stops traffic and they're
- 32:19he's having this argument with this girl in the car.
- 32:21He's got like a girlfriend, quasi girlfriend.
- 32:23He's trying to break up with her.
- 32:24She's like no like begging him not to break up with her.
- 32:27And I'm like don't beg, don't beg.
- 32:29And then on the street girl like it was bad and he's treating her
- 32:32like shit. It's just so bad.
- 32:34It's so bad. So everyone starts getting off
- 32:37the bus because he's not moving the car.
- 32:41She goes over to try and get him to move.
- 32:44There's some arm grabbing that's happening.
- 32:46She's like, how about I help you move the car?
- 32:50Cut. He tricks her into reversing the
- 32:52car. She has no license, never driven
- 32:54a car in her life. Then how is she volunteering to
- 32:57move? The car.
- 32:58Why are you volunteering to move the car, babe?
- 33:01It's like she reverses into the bus.
- 33:06They it's like a police station thing.
- 33:11It, it's, it's so weird this girl and this guy get together
- 33:18like that's their me cue, That's their me cue.
- 33:22You forgot to say the water evaporated out of the bag the
- 33:27fish was in. Because when he's pulled in
- 33:29front of the bus, the bus made a sudden stop and the fish flew
- 33:34out of her hands and fell and rolled down the bus and it
- 33:39busted a hole in the bag with the, that the grouper was in.
- 33:42And it was like a little stream of water coming out of the bag.
- 33:47I'm like, girl, pinch the hole shut.
- 33:49Like, why, why was she holding it up?
- 33:51Like, I gotta get home? Like just letting the water go.
- 33:53Like I was like, pinch the hole shut and then deal with the
- 33:58issue because letting the leak continue to happen like I, I
- 34:03was. So it's, it's confounding.
- 34:05A lot of stuff in this show, again, would not fly because
- 34:08there's a lot of tiny little things that would bother the
- 34:11shit out of you if you thought about it for two seconds, and
- 34:15that's one of them. It's like, OK, why is she
- 34:17running around with the grouper and the bag is still leaking?
- 34:22Like she's not making any attempt to stop the leak in the
- 34:24bag. She's like, I gotta go home.
- 34:26I'm like, girl, plug the hole. Do nothing.
- 34:32Do. Something.
- 34:33That's why she's gone. I I know the fish is done for if
- 34:38you're going to stay like that, so.
- 34:40Then he tosses it in the trash. Oh, because they're at the
- 34:44police station and he swears up and down that the girl that he
- 34:47was sitting in the car with, he doesn't know her, the girlfriend
- 34:50that he was with is actually the girl on the bus.
- 34:53He's complete lying, like straight up lying.
- 34:58And he, he tells, he gives you this quick stop, stop story.
- 35:02He's like, oh, I have PTSD from losing my father when I was
- 35:05eight. I have a history of mental
- 35:06illness. And I'm like, whoa, whoa, whoa,
- 35:10whoa. She feels bad for like a split
- 35:12second. And he goes he he kachi like he
- 35:15is straight up a menace, a menace to society.
- 35:20And that's what she ended up. With that's what she ended up
- 35:23with, that's the man of her. That's the love of her life
- 35:26right there. And yeah, he touches the fish in
- 35:29the trash. She's like, can we just deal
- 35:31with this later? Like, I'll compensate you.
- 35:33Whatever. I gotta go home.
- 35:34He literally rips the fish, which has, no, it's sitting in
- 35:37no water at this point and still like, writhing around in there.
- 35:42I was like, PETA would be all over their asses and pisses on
- 35:45the face all over their asses. And he throws her fish in the
- 35:51trash. Oh God.
- 35:54But then it gets worse because she has a creeper of a step dad
- 35:58at home. Oh my God.
- 36:00And this is what you were saying that like these, these old
- 36:03school KK drums all, well, any drama, any Asian drama at this
- 36:07point in time, these vintage dramas have like hellish home
- 36:11lives for the female leads. And if they have bonus points if
- 36:16they have some sort of, they're fielding some sort of sexual
- 36:19advances from a family member, which is what's happening to
- 36:23her. It's horrible.
- 36:24Yeah, so she, her parents had died early because, you know, he
- 36:31has to make the female lead. Suffer.
- 36:35She has to be suffering the whole time.
- 36:38The whole time she suffered the whole show.
- 36:42Literally the whole show she's suffering.
- 36:45Oh my gosh, it just clicked for me.
- 36:47Like what the hell. Uh huh.
- 36:48She. She wouldn't know the definition
- 36:51of soft life if it hit her. No.
- 36:54OK, so her parents are dead. She's living with an aunt.
- 37:00Aunt. That was her stepmom.
- 37:04Do you remember? Like her dad died.
- 37:06This was the intro to the whole show, was that she was playing
- 37:09the piano, she was taking piano lessons, and her stepmom was
- 37:13there with the teacher and picking her up and stuff.
- 37:17I mean, really nice to her, really pleasant to her.
- 37:20And then it was her birthday. Do you remember?
- 37:23Her dad was there, picked him up, and the stepmom was like,
- 37:27oh, let's go pick up a cake for your birthday.
- 37:28A cake. The.
- 37:30Dad literally gets run down in the street, someone runs him
- 37:35over and he dies on her birthday and so she gets stuck with a
- 37:40stepmom. You can't even make it.
- 37:45You can't even make it up. You think you think the mock
- 37:48Jong plot plots of today are bad?
- 37:52Watch like the The real vintage dramas are like Hold My Purse.
- 38:01We are the blueprints. Honestly.
- 38:03Honestly. So then she's stuck with the
- 38:04stand bomb. The stand bomb tries to abandon
- 38:06her on the bus. Do you remember?
- 38:09I remember, I remember that. 'Cause she falls asleep on the
- 38:13bus and the lady like, gets up to leave and actually makes it
- 38:16off the bus before she realized it, before Moo Chung realizes
- 38:20that she's left alone and gets off and gets her.
- 38:23So while she's growing up, she's like, I can't fall asleep.
- 38:26I can't like let my guard down because I'll just get abandoned.
- 38:30She's always anxious. Yeah.
- 38:33And you tell me, is this one she wanted to end up with?
- 38:37That's the man, that's the man she wants to be some peer
- 38:42stress, peer stress. So but but then the this stepmom
- 38:47gets with the creeper. Yeah.
- 38:50And the creeper has been creeping on her for years and
- 38:54years. She's got three locks on her
- 38:56door. She's got a plank of wood that
- 38:59she puts on the window before she takes a shower so that he
- 39:02doesn't peep on her. And she's just terrified.
- 39:06She's terrified at all times. Her stepmom was a pygmy.
- 39:11Oh, oh, the pygmy to end all pygmies.
- 39:14Oh, how do you like actively put the girl in danger?
- 39:20And you know, deep down, that's the thing.
- 39:23Deep down you know the man you have picked.
- 39:26Yeah, because he was feeling up on her and like, giving her
- 39:30money and stuff when they were in dire straits back when she
- 39:35was a child. You're telling me you trust him
- 39:39implicitly? No.
- 39:44Foul. It's just foulness.
- 39:46It's ugliness. So then we cut to she's older,
- 39:49we got the fish scenario, the meat cube and this dude like
- 39:55this male lead despite him being like so fine he is making bets
- 40:03with his friends group. To seduce girls at the school
- 40:08'cause he's in law school and his mom owns the school there,
- 40:12he's filthy rich and his mom owns the school.
- 40:15It's giving boys over flowers. It's giving, you know, like it's
- 40:20giving Meteor Garden. So he has seduced thus far the
- 40:25the most 7 beautiful girls in the school on campus.
- 40:30And I think the one that we see last is he gives like this, she
- 40:37take this girl again, they're all just trying to declare their
- 40:39love for him and get him to not leave them.
- 40:42And she like removes all the jewelry back in the car, right
- 40:47in front of the bus. She like takes off all her
- 40:48jewelry. She's like, look, take my
- 40:51jewelry or whatever. Like I know I got it from some
- 40:53other guy, but I'm loyal to you. I won't wear this guy's jewelry
- 40:56no more. Whatever.
- 40:57And I'm like, why are you taking off your rings and watch girl?
- 41:00Like stop. So he takes this jewelry and
- 41:05gives it to like a nerd that's there with his friends group and
- 41:12tells him oh pay off your debts or pay for your tuition or
- 41:15whatever because apparently he did this job specifically
- 41:18because the nerd was rejected by this girl.
- 41:23So what they are trying to tell us is our male lead is an A
- 41:28hole. Yeah, he's an A hole with a
- 41:30heart. OK.
- 41:32He's all about equity and inclusion.
- 41:37Well, he thinks that all women are hypocrites stemming from his
- 41:41mommy issues because yes, because he's got major mommy
- 41:45issues. His mom is a bitch and she he
- 41:50thinks that she's the one that drove his dad to suicide 'cause
- 41:55they divorced and then his dad committed suicide and he blamed
- 42:00her for this whole thing and. That is why he was acting out
- 42:05the whole time. Literally the whole show he's
- 42:09just acting wrong. But I will, you know what?
- 42:14I'll give it to him, though, when he got his memory back and
- 42:17he had a conversation with his mom and he's like, I'm back.
- 42:23I'm not going to be like the boy who just listens to you.
- 42:27I was like, OK, I love that. I love that for you.
- 42:31Because what I feel like what he was trying to say then was you
- 42:34can't control me. I'm unpredictable.
- 42:36He's that character that you're like, don't let them know your
- 42:39next move. That's that's.
- 42:43Don't let them know your next move.
- 42:45Keep them on their toes. Exactly.
- 42:48You just don't know what he was going to do next.
- 42:51No, he was a wild card. He's an absolute wild card.
- 42:55So there's this whole thing that happens on episode one, but at
- 42:59the end of the day, he tries to get with Moochang Moochang the
- 43:03the female lead. He's his.
- 43:05She's his next target and lame. But the step mom.
- 43:13I have this quote here. I didn't take like any notes
- 43:16just in the first few episodes, but what I have here from the
- 43:19step, I was like so flabbergasted.
- 43:20I took this note down, 'cause the mom, the step mom, is
- 43:24thrilled that he is going for her.
- 43:28She says you still win even if he violates you.
- 43:35I had to sit back in my chair. I was like, that is probably one
- 43:39of the worst things I've ever heard a female character say.
- 43:42In a drama, Yeah, she. Was like, you have to go On this
- 43:46date with this guy, you have to go where he tells you this, you
- 43:50gotta you gotta get out of jail free car.
- 43:52Basically this is your ticket out 'cause they're poor.
- 43:57And she said you still win even if he violates you.
- 44:02That's trash. That's what I'm saying.
- 44:06She's a pic me. She's not a girl's girl.
- 44:10She was terrible and her whole her whole thing was having a man
- 44:18to provide for her to like it was more than just provision.
- 44:23It was also a status thing. It was like it was just too much
- 44:26with. Her, it was a lot.
- 44:27It was a lot. So that's episodes one and two.
- 44:31So there you go. That's giving you a lot of
- 44:33context for where we're starting in the story.
- 44:38The last thing that home girl was playing on the piano before
- 44:41her dad died on her birthday was Box Concerto in G major.
- 44:46I'll give you 1 fucking guess as to what his dad played him
- 44:52because he was a music teacher at the same school at the same
- 44:55college. I'll give you one guess as to
- 44:58what the guy, the guy's dad, would play him in this beautiful
- 45:04piano in this hall. It is a drama, it is.
- 45:10Fox Concerto and G Major So so she goes over to the abandoned
- 45:18hall that he basically it's a shrine to his dad.
- 45:22Like everything's as he left it in this Music Hall.
- 45:26There are no classes conducted in there at all.
- 45:29And she starts playing the piano and she is really bad at playing
- 45:34the piano. Let me just say, I know it's
- 45:36been many years since she's played the piano.
- 45:40Every time she played I was like, damn, she sucks.
- 45:42Like I was like, oh God, it's just bad.
- 45:46So she starts playing the piano and he's there and he's like,
- 45:49why are you playing the piano? Of course.
- 45:51He goes ape. She of course he does because
- 45:56why are you playing that particular song in that shrine
- 46:00when no one is supposed to be there and I know we had a hand
- 46:05grab a like a classic roughness to the treatment he.
- 46:13Tells her she's defiled the piano with her filthy hands,
- 46:19that she would sell her own body and it wouldn't be enough to
- 46:24cover like the injustice of what she's done to the piano.
- 46:29And I was like, what the fuck? She just basically says like,
- 46:37what do you want? Like, what do you want from me?
- 46:39Like, 'cause she's already been apologizing this whole time and
- 46:43because she has negated him like for two 2 1/2 episodes so far,
- 46:48he says, like, I want to win this bet to to, you know,
- 46:52conquer you or whatever. So he tells her to strip.
- 46:57And then? I beg your pardon?
- 47:02And she begins to and she starts, she starts, oh, she's
- 47:04like, what's wrong with this girl?
- 47:09Oh my God, what a battered woman.
- 47:12It's so like so. And her ugly stepdad was oh.
- 47:20Yeah, 'cause yeah, Oh my God. So then she starts guilting him
- 47:26and says what fun lies in a woman having to degrade herself
- 47:28in front of a man? He actually takes it very well
- 47:33the guilt trip that she puts on him and her like fat ass tears
- 47:37that are falling and she's like unbuttoning her blouse ever so
- 47:41slowly, like she's not really stripping all that fast at all.
- 47:46But he gets guilted and he tells her to stop.
- 47:50She says all men are the same. She says something like that to
- 47:53him in his face and he immediately clocks it and he
- 47:59goes all men. Who else is doing this to you?
- 48:04And I was like, oh God, this is this is such a microtrope where
- 48:09it's like can't touch her, like she's mine, Like who else is
- 48:13doing this? That's my woman, blah, blah,
- 48:15blah. And like it, it hit me like a
- 48:18ton of bricks. I was like, oh man, am I still
- 48:21susceptible to this? Like manipulation?
- 48:24I'll. Kill whoever touches you.
- 48:26Oh my God. Shit.
- 48:29So we're having a time over here.
- 48:34OK, so he first of all I call bullshit that he even realizes
- 48:40that she's being harassed by someone else.
- 48:43Right. OK, so this is this is a
- 48:46question I wanted to ask though. So our guy is in this law
- 48:51school. Or he's been there for a while.
- 48:55OK, that's what I was going to say.
- 48:56He's been there for a while. He's intentionally not
- 48:59graduating. He's emotionally stunted, not
- 49:04very socially skilled and correct.
- 49:07He's able to clock. That's someone that's BS.
- 49:12No, no, pardon me, but no fucking way.
- 49:18So there. He's there, going who?
- 49:21Who else is doing this to you? The creeper stepdad?
- 49:26He's not. They're not even married like
- 49:27her. He is just the boyfriend of her
- 49:31stepmom. A long time boyfriend.
- 49:33Long time boyfriend So he's out there peeping on them.
- 49:36He makes some noise. He the male league goes out
- 49:39there to investigate and he's like, who's out there, blah,
- 49:41blah, blah. They get locked in the abandoned
- 49:44building. Of course they do.
- 49:50So if this is your, if this is also your microtrope that like
- 49:53they get locked in the room together.
- 49:56I have good news for you 'cause this happens like a couple of
- 49:58times in the show, but they find the bird.
- 50:04There's like a bird with an injured wing in there.
- 50:05He tells the story of how the music director of the building
- 50:11was here and he taught his son how to rollerblade in this very
- 50:16room. And the he dropped his kid on
- 50:20purpose and because the kid fell and scraped the tile, this is
- 50:26the mark of that. And the kid was so upset, like
- 50:29this huge sob story, right, of him and his dad.
- 50:32He's not naming names, but she, she's smart.
- 50:34She's like, OK, so you, you and your dad were in this room and
- 50:41you have like a little daddy issues story and that's why you
- 50:44keep coming back. You miss your dad.
- 50:45Whatever he had the key the whole time.
- 50:50They could have gotten at gotten out of this room at any point.
- 50:54It it was. It was just.
- 50:56You just reminded me of that. Yeah, like he is such a problem,
- 51:02but then at the end of the episode, I buy stock in the sky
- 51:07like I buy stock in the mail. Leave because he announces that
- 51:11he's lost the bet to kiss her in 24 within 24 hours, even though
- 51:16he has kissed her within the. 24 hour has proof.
- 51:19And has proof. Yeah.
- 51:23So then he runs around the track in high heels and collapses.
- 51:28This is the You get immediately that he is sick, something's
- 51:32wrong with him. He keeps fainting.
- 51:35Yeah. Because he's fainted even before
- 51:37episode 3. So it's at this point when he's
- 51:40like, oh, like I lost like she's so wonderful a person, like I
- 51:45could I, I didn't get anything out of her.
- 51:48So whatever, she's better than me.
- 51:51And he takes the the. Heels.
- 51:54The heels. And runs around the track.
- 51:57This is when I bought stock in this problematic ass dude.
- 52:04Do you have the moment that you bought stock in the sky that you
- 52:07were like, oh, you know, maybe you?
- 52:11Know, you know, as much as we threw shade at it when he
- 52:16clocked that she was being harassed.
- 52:19Oh. I felt terrible OK my grade 6
- 52:25self felt. I got you.
- 52:31I got. You and I was just like, oh,
- 52:33okay, okay, so he has some good in him.
- 52:37I can. I can work with him, I can fix
- 52:40it. That's the thing, like you come
- 52:42away from the show and you're like, I can fix any man like.
- 52:48Exactly. Oh man.
- 52:51OK, so then we Fast forward. The step uncle tries to actually
- 52:56sexually assault her in this same room because they've agreed
- 52:59to meet up here every night so she can play the fucking piano
- 53:02for him. It's crazy.
- 53:04He beats him up. The meal lead beats up the step
- 53:07uncle. Yeah.
- 53:09And it's an entire shit show. It's an entire shit show.
- 53:14She is devastated because not only did she did he actually
- 53:18like the uncle pulled the trigger on this finally and like
- 53:21laid hands on her and tried to pay her off.
- 53:24He like gave her a wad of money and was like, I'll pay for it
- 53:26'cause he was convinced that she was selling herself to the male
- 53:31lead. Yeah.
- 53:32Like he made-up the story in his head.
- 53:34So on top of all that. And and and the not audacity.
- 53:41It's just like, well, if he gets you, I get you to the the fuck
- 53:46is what? It's like he had this
- 53:48entitlement and this possessiveness over her that he
- 53:52was like, I've been taking care of you, you're mine.
- 53:54I should basically get to be with you.
- 53:58Absolutely not. It's problem problem.
- 54:03So then to cap it all off, the step aunt, I'm sorry the stepmom
- 54:09does not believe her that this guy sexual assault.
- 54:15Do you think she did not believe or she chose not to believe?
- 54:19Denial. She was in denial, 100% in
- 54:23denial, but she was going real hard on that denial because it
- 54:27was the way she was talking to the female lead.
- 54:31It was so out of pocket. So out of pocket and they have
- 54:38this ridiculous hearing. It's like a mock trial type
- 54:43deal. And in my memory, I thought it
- 54:47was a real trial. No.
- 54:51Girl, this was just like at the school.
- 54:54They were having an an investigative hearing at the
- 54:57school to see who was at fault. Nothing.
- 55:00This wasn't criminal at all. What I was watching, I was like,
- 55:03hey, so me, my trauma, you're coming to use us to do case
- 55:07study in class. Yeah, yeah, there was like mad
- 55:14slut shaming. Literally.
- 55:16They were calling her a call girl, selling herself in that
- 55:19abandoned Music Hall. And it was a really ugly like
- 55:24hearing. And they were taking it super
- 55:26seriously. And it's at this point that the
- 55:31Malee basically confesses to her in the hearing that he basically
- 55:38just like she's so innocent and pure and he she made him want to
- 55:42be a better person. Yeah.
- 55:45And change his philandering ways.
- 55:52OK. Yeah, OK.
- 55:54So yeah. So then she passes out again,
- 56:00though. Oh, keep going.
- 56:01What'd you say? I was like, he's like, you're
- 56:03this precious egg and you need to be cherished and I'm going to
- 56:09change my ways so that I can be the person to cherish you.
- 56:14There's something about like the virginal girl thing that is
- 56:19rubbing me the wrong. I.
- 56:21Know, I know it's like, oh, she's so like, you know,
- 56:28precious and innocent and. Fragile.
- 56:34Fragile and it's just stop it. Just stop it.
- 56:39That's that didn't sit right with me.
- 56:42So, but anyway, it's not that she isn't those things, but he's
- 56:48like placing a lot of importance on it, I guess.
- 56:51And the way that it affects her personality or the way that she
- 56:54comes across. Yeah, I agree.
- 56:57So yeah, anyway, he passes out after saying, oh, you're gonna,
- 57:03you agreed to make me this dinner if I won this case.
- 57:05If it's not a fucking case, it's a hearing.
- 57:08Anyway, so they do win and they get the footage of the assault,
- 57:13which no one's gonna talk about the trauma of.
- 57:16They were just calling me names in this crazy ass hearing.
- 57:21And you had proof all the time. And then you had they get the
- 57:24proof from the girl who stole the CCTV footage and you're just
- 57:29gonna play it in front of all these people have nothing to do
- 57:32with anything. Like it was like, this is like
- 57:34my worst moment in life. Yeah.
- 57:37And you're gonna play it here and we're just gonna go home
- 57:40after like, nothing like, like. Where is?
- 57:43Where is the aftercare? Where is he gonna have
- 57:45beforecare? No, nothing, nothing.
- 57:50So anyway, this is when it starts to get real crazy.
- 57:54Like if you thought it was crazy right now, it gets real even
- 57:56more crazy. So then he passes out again.
- 57:59Long story short, they take him to the hospital and he's got a 5
- 58:04centimeter brain tumor in his frontal temporal lobe.
- 58:06He's got mere months to live. He is imminently dying.
- 58:14Like tomorrow he could drop dead.
- 58:15He could. Just drop dead at any point.
- 58:21Listen to me. I think this show is a little
- 58:24bit better if you just come in not knowing anything that's.
- 58:28True. I think this hits better when
- 58:31you don't know anything 'cause when I first watched it I did
- 58:33not watch this in O 9 or 2010. I watched it in like 2014, 2015
- 58:39around there and it was 445 years removed.
- 58:45I think I saw it on Netflix and I didn't read nothing like I I
- 58:51just like saw the I just saw the the poster of it on the app and
- 58:58was like, I'll just hit play on this girl.
- 59:03I was eating that shit up, eating it up because there's
- 59:07something about just rolling with the punches on it and you
- 59:12already knew there was something wrong with him.
- 59:15You just don't know the extent of it.
- 59:17So then they tell you he's just, he's terminal like he's it's a
- 59:22lot like this show is a lot. So I don't know if we want to
- 59:28talk about the second female lead and how her dad is.
- 59:32Also I don't understand why she has no characteristics of her
- 59:37dad. Right.
- 59:42They are nothing alike. So the second female lead, we'll
- 59:46just call her Emily. That's her English name in the
- 59:48in the show, Emily is a St. Emily.
- 59:55Is a St. like Emily is our female lead but with a like I'm
- 1:00:00a doctor career. But like, yes, with a career,
- 1:00:04yeah. With ambitions, yeah.
- 1:00:09Then she also has this father who is literally doing illegal
- 1:00:13dealings in his company, like Erin Brockovich style.
- 1:00:18Like he's poisoning the water and things like arsenic in the
- 1:00:23town that she ends up. Then the female lead ends up
- 1:00:26living in because of his glass factories that are around it.
- 1:00:30It is honestly astounding how different the second female
- 1:00:35lead's father is to. Her.
- 1:00:39Because it's at this point, like right before he finds out that
- 1:00:43he's terminal, he has this conversation between his mom and
- 1:00:47what would be his father-in-law if they, him and Emily got
- 1:00:51together. And the dad is like desperately
- 1:00:54trying to match him with his daughter.
- 1:00:58And that the male leader's like, I'm not going to sell myself
- 1:01:02just for money to save the Music Hall.
- 1:01:05Because the they were the school was like a dire financial
- 1:01:08straits and the mom was going to have to bulldoze the Music Hall
- 1:01:12and she didn't want to do that. So she was looking for outside
- 1:01:15people to help with the money aspect and she found this skeezy
- 1:01:19dude. So then the dad is saying it
- 1:01:25doesn't matter I don't care. Like he was like trying to
- 1:01:31muscle him into being with his daughter.
- 1:01:34And the male lead is consistently saying like I don't
- 1:01:37love your daughter. I can be with her but she would
- 1:01:40be super unhappy because I do not love her.
- 1:01:44Do you want that for your daughter?
- 1:01:45Do you want her to be miserable? Well, he had the thought of, you
- 1:01:50know, over time you'll be OK. You don't need love and
- 1:01:56marriage. Marriage is business, you know,
- 1:01:59and this is a good match. And I know my daughter would be
- 1:02:03happy with you. On the other hand, like you
- 1:02:08could tell that she did, Emily did like him, but I can't
- 1:02:14understand why. I don't understand why either
- 1:02:18'cause she was seeing the worst parts of him.
- 1:02:20Exactly. And and they're, they're so
- 1:02:23different. So I'm just like, what is
- 1:02:25drawing you to this person? If anything, I felt like she
- 1:02:29would be drawn to Talia, a second male lead, because that's
- 1:02:37more, he's more her temperament. Yeah, instead of the first male
- 1:02:44lead. She only saw the worst parts of
- 1:02:46him. He was an asshole.
- 1:02:47He was treating her nasty on the ice rink like a sexist kind of
- 1:02:53dude. Like why are you liking?
- 1:02:56Why is she like, kind of like why you kind of like, why is she
- 1:03:02reading into this guy and putting her eggs in his basket?
- 1:03:06Yeah, and I can't even say she wanted to get away from her dad,
- 1:03:11because her dad adored yeah, and he adored her.
- 1:03:15Yeah. So it just didn't make sense why
- 1:03:19she was trying to get with him. No, and even after the surgery,
- 1:03:24so I'm skipping, but like let's stay on this topic so we skip
- 1:03:27ahead. He's had his surgery.
- 1:03:29She's there rehabilitating him, which I have so many nip pics
- 1:03:33about this you have you would not believe, but she's there
- 1:03:36teaching him to tie his shoelaces and speak and whatever
- 1:03:40the fuck else. After that he becomes an
- 1:03:43asshole. He has no sense of justice
- 1:03:47anymore, he's taking cases from a literal rapist and he's all
- 1:03:53about the money. Why is she falling in love with
- 1:03:56him? Could it be?
- 1:03:59Could it be because now he's really transformed into her dad
- 1:04:05and that's what she knows? That's a you freaking nailed it,
- 1:04:10I think is that he's very similar to her dad.
- 1:04:17Yeah. And that's what the dad liked is
- 1:04:18that, oh, I like this version of him because he, we can control
- 1:04:22him and he's got the same values as I do, as we do because the
- 1:04:27mom was the same way. Yeah, yeah, she was.
- 1:04:31She was. But the mom, the mom, I'm just
- 1:04:33like, she was bitter. She was very angry, rightfully
- 1:04:37so. I can't blame her too much.
- 1:04:40I will blame her for how she treated her grandson when she
- 1:04:44discovered it was her grandson. Oh, OK, let's put a let's put a
- 1:04:48stopper in that. We'll come back to that.
- 1:04:50We'll come back to that. So I, I agree.
- 1:04:53And then also the second female lead, she had so many
- 1:04:57opportunities to set the record straight about who he was
- 1:05:01before, who he loved before the surgery and stuff.
- 1:05:04And she never did. So I agree that he was like, you
- 1:05:06hurt me the most because we were close.
- 1:05:11We were gonna, we were gonna get married and you didn't.
- 1:05:15You didn't decide to tell me the truth.
- 1:05:17You have. I agree that he was rightfully
- 1:05:20upset when he found out the truth.
- 1:05:23Yes, because he was lied to for six years.
- 1:05:27Yes, I agree with you. And he, with his point was like,
- 1:05:30you had no right to make decisions about my life and what
- 1:05:35I should and shouldn't know. Uh huh, uh huh.
- 1:05:38Like they. Took the decision away from him.
- 1:05:41They took the agency away from him.
- 1:05:43So I completely was on his side when he was pissed at everybody.
- 1:05:47I didn't agree that he was lashing out at only one person,
- 1:05:50and that was Moo Chang, the female lead.
- 1:05:53Yes, but not but. And I was very pissed off at
- 1:06:00Emily being all self-righteous in front of Muchen.
- 1:06:04Oh my God. Because I was just like, you
- 1:06:07know, the steps you took. What are you now in my face
- 1:06:11talking about? Oh, I must have been a whore.
- 1:06:14And then she. Oh.
- 1:06:15My God, that whole conversation in front of the clothesline in
- 1:06:20the garage, I was like, you have no leg to sand on, literally no
- 1:06:23leg to sand on. Your dad poisoned this whole
- 1:06:25village, by the way, like you cannot go drink the groundwater,
- 1:06:27babes, because your dad put arsenic in the groundwater.
- 1:06:31So let's start there. Number two, you're you're so
- 1:06:35smart, you're a doctor. Why are you not putting two and
- 1:06:39two together? The your skeezy ass dad who's
- 1:06:41doing illegal dealings. Had the.
- 1:06:44Only had the only method with the highest chance of success to
- 1:06:50save this guy and you're telling me it would be a OK for this
- 1:06:56girl Moo Cheng to stick around after the surgery like she
- 1:06:59didn't put two and two together? No, because she didn't I she
- 1:07:04didn't see her dad like that. She's a doctor, she doesn't
- 1:07:07really know what her dad is doing and I'm sure he's not
- 1:07:10telling her I'm an asshole. She's just like there.
- 1:07:16There has to be. Some assholery happening in her
- 1:07:19midst like the dad cannot be a St. all the time in front of
- 1:07:23her. He probably can.
- 1:07:25Oh, man, it's just so frustrating.
- 1:07:28So yeah, I, I that whole thing where she was like, were you
- 1:07:31dating three guys at once? Like the male lead, the father
- 1:07:35of the kid. Presumably she thinks it's
- 1:07:37another guy and the second male. Lead.
- 1:07:41So like some some phantom father, the male lead and the
- 1:07:45second female lead. So she again making up this
- 1:07:48whole story in her head, accusing her of dating three
- 1:07:52guys at the same time. Because to her, no one can be as
- 1:07:57good as she has been to him. Oh yeah, she's holding it
- 1:08:05against her that she wasn't there after the surgery and she
- 1:08:08didn't, she didn't help rehab him.
- 1:08:10I'm like, did you want her there?
- 1:08:14Did you actually want her there? Exactly.
- 1:08:17You knew. You knew that he liked her.
- 1:08:22You knew they had a thing going on.
- 1:08:24She knew he loved her. She did so after the surgery.
- 1:08:30The thing you should have done is look for her if you were
- 1:08:34really like keeping a buck. Right, you brought.
- 1:08:37Her back. Yeah, yeah, if you want to do
- 1:08:41this square, fair and square. Exactly you.
- 1:08:46See making up making up a story in your head and just running
- 1:08:49with it and then literally putting what framing his life
- 1:08:54however you wanted. Yeah.
- 1:08:58No like to stand up? I couldn't believe she was
- 1:09:00spouting all that shit in front of Mujang and Moo Cheng's not
- 1:09:03she does not defend herself like at any point in the show.
- 1:09:06Moo Cheng is not defending herself against these attacks
- 1:09:10from people. And that graded my nerves.
- 1:09:14So much this. Is not how female leads.
- 1:09:18I know this is not how female leads are designed.
- 1:09:21Now it's. Even even even even the one that
- 1:09:25pissed me off the most say OK, I'm not defending myself.
- 1:09:30I can't defend my son and some some twat is like I can't defend
- 1:09:38my son. No Backbone.
- 1:09:43None. I'm glad we don't have female
- 1:09:47leads like this anymore. Like, you want the best for her,
- 1:09:51you're rooting for her, but she keeps making the worst
- 1:09:54decisions. And The thing is, she could at
- 1:09:57any point in the show, they can just, I don't know, communicate.
- 1:10:01They can just say the truth about what happened and it's
- 1:10:05gonna make someone look bad. It's always gonna make someone
- 1:10:07look bad. But they don't wanna make nobody
- 1:10:08look bad, so they don't say shit.
- 1:10:11Yeah, I. Agree.
- 1:10:13And that is so that is the core of a like an angsty melodrama.
- 1:10:18And that is what this is. Bottom line, this is a
- 1:10:23tearjerker. I think in Netflix it's labeled
- 1:10:26like tearjerker, Yeah. I think.
- 1:10:29You'll cry out of frustration. I don't think I ever cried.
- 1:10:33What I was waiting for was I wanted him to regain his memory.
- 1:10:42I wanted him to discover that he had a son.
- 1:10:47And I wanted him to go back to the village and go, like, seduce
- 1:10:53her, not whatever else he did. Well, it might.
- 1:10:57OK, but not whatever else he did.
- 1:11:02I completely am with you. I if I wrote this show, that is
- 1:11:07the chain of events that I would have been like, this isn't my
- 1:11:11hit list is yeah, I'm going to write this so that he, you know,
- 1:11:14figures it out, that realizes that's his son and he goes back
- 1:11:18and he's like, I got a winner back.
- 1:11:19I got to figure out what happened and I got a winner
- 1:11:20back. I seduced her.
- 1:11:22Yes, you could have easily. Oh, the material was just there.
- 1:11:27Oh. It was right, it was low hanging
- 1:11:29fruit. It was right there.
- 1:11:31That's not what happened. That's not what happened, guys.
- 1:11:35That's not what happened at all. So so they Oh my God.
- 1:11:41So they finally kind of I'm going back in time back to
- 1:11:44before the surgery. So they they say he has months
- 1:11:48to live. He doesn't want to get the
- 1:11:49surgery because the rate of success is something like 1015%.
- 1:11:55He's gonna die no matter what. And so he is having a pity
- 1:11:58party. I literally could not stop
- 1:12:01laughing. And I know, I know that he's
- 1:12:04just found out that he's terminal.
- 1:12:06He's a young man. It's like 2223 years old.
- 1:12:11And his reaction to leaving the hospital and having this intense
- 1:12:18reaction, running through the streets, arms akimbo like crying
- 1:12:24and screaming. He was literally on his knees in
- 1:12:28the middle of the street and his arms like in fists, like next to
- 1:12:33him and just screaming, screaming into the void.
- 1:12:38I could not, could not stop laughing.
- 1:12:42It was hysterical to me. Mind you.
- 1:12:45The amount of overacting do we do we need to talk about this
- 1:12:48now? Exactly.
- 1:12:51I was like, the actor is not winning any Oscars, OK.
- 1:12:55Yeah. He's not.
- 1:12:59He can. Listen to me, I love Venice.
- 1:13:04I love everybody here. They are overacting every and
- 1:13:09especially him overacting every chance they get.
- 1:13:13I'm loving it because it's so entertaining.
- 1:13:16It's like he's a he's a tortured hip hop yes guy in a music
- 1:13:24video. He's just giving you face like
- 1:13:26he's frustrated and then he'll he'll.
- 1:13:30I know, I know everything is like dialed up to 20 when there
- 1:13:35should be levels to things right?
- 1:13:37Like there should. He should be upset.
- 1:13:39Maybe level 8 right now. But it's always 12.
- 1:13:44It's always up to, it's always through the roof.
- 1:13:47Like the emotional response to things is insane insanity
- 1:13:53throughout the show. Like just immediate tears,
- 1:13:57immediate, like just disc contorting his face in like
- 1:14:01weird ways and stuff. And there's some episodes that I
- 1:14:05was watching this at 1.5 speed. Oh my God, it was even better
- 1:14:09because those facial expressions at 1.5 speed, Oh man, I was
- 1:14:14rolling around. Just so funny.
- 1:14:17And so if that's your bag, if that's like the cheesiness of
- 1:14:20this whole thing is your thing, You like that sort of thing.
- 1:14:24Oh my God, press play. So the overacting was really in
- 1:14:28that moment when he found out that he was terminal.
- 1:14:31That is one of the best overacting scenes of the whole
- 1:14:33show. He obviously pushes away the
- 1:14:37female lead because he thinks he's dying.
- 1:14:41So he doesn't want her to stick around and watch him die.
- 1:14:45Whatever he says, he's not interested in her anymore.
- 1:14:51And the the confession that he did during this investigative
- 1:14:55hearing, which again, like fuck that hearing bro, was just to
- 1:14:58win this case. It's not a case.
- 1:15:00OK, he this really threw me for a loop, 'cause I didn't remember
- 1:15:05this. She goes back to working at the
- 1:15:07Fisherman's Wharf and she's. Yes.
- 1:15:11Do you imagine? And she's like, actually,
- 1:15:15there's a box of falls. She falls in the water while
- 1:15:19she's bringing up some Nets, which admittedly look very
- 1:15:23heavy, but she falls in the water and inexplicably it's,
- 1:15:28it's all inexplicable because it looks so fake.
- 1:15:32Everything looks fake. Her fall in the water, her
- 1:15:35hanging on to the netting trying to stay above water, her semi
- 1:15:40drowning, her foot being caught in the net.
- 1:15:43I'm like, girl, that is the loosest thing that I've ever
- 1:15:47seen like it. It is honestly comedy at this
- 1:15:51point, but you're supposed to take it seriously that she's in
- 1:15:54mortal danger about to drown. I have no idea how he found her.
- 1:16:03Listen. I have no idea how he, even if
- 1:16:09they said, I think they told him, oh, she's working at the
- 1:16:12Fisherman's Wharf. And there's.
- 1:16:14About to be a a storm yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah and you how
- 1:16:19can you let her work out in the storm I.
- 1:16:22Was gonna say that they were guilting him into the guilting.
- 1:16:26You were supposed to take care of her.
- 1:16:28How could you let her go and work?
- 1:16:31And I'm just like, sis has been working there.
- 1:16:34That's her spot. That's her bag.
- 1:16:38He has never been there, though, never has been.
- 1:16:41The Fisherman's Wharf is not a strip of of one block or two
- 1:16:47blocks. This is a huge.
- 1:16:50It's a complex. So how then she Miranda?
- 1:16:53She's drawing. She's drawing, so how did you?
- 1:16:56Silently, Silently, mind I yet silent.
- 1:17:03How the hell does he find her? I don't know.
- 1:17:05He runs up on her quick. I'll just say, hey, maybe he has
- 1:17:10an internal GPS, an internal like Care Bear kind of thing,
- 1:17:16like someone is in nature and it lights up and he just knows the
- 1:17:20location. She may have shared her Apple
- 1:17:23location with him. What can we say?
- 1:17:25Exactly. This is, let me just say, the
- 1:17:27tech in this show. I enjoyed it so much to see the
- 1:17:32flip phones and all of Oh my gosh this is a pre iPhone era.
- 1:17:38Yeah, yeah. It was oh, nostalgic, so
- 1:17:42nostalgic. So anyway, there's none of that
- 1:17:44shit. There's no GPS for her to no
- 1:17:46LoJack. There is no find my person or
- 1:17:49whatever feature on his flip phone.
- 1:17:54He finds her, saves her. If it's meant to be, he will
- 1:17:58find you, Jess. Thank you, I I received that
- 1:18:03word. So if they, what is it?
- 1:18:07He finally reveals his diagnosis to her, but she still wants to
- 1:18:12be with him. Because, you know, I says love
- 1:18:17suffering, your dad dies. I I can't keep up with her.
- 1:18:22I can't keep up with her, OK? They have sex in this epic rain
- 1:18:27scene because he drops her off back at this house where she's
- 1:18:32staying by herself because both are after the hearing, both her
- 1:18:37stepmom and the pervy step uncle have disappeared.
- 1:18:43They have escaped, absconded separately might I add.
- 1:18:49So she's staying there by herself.
- 1:18:50They have sex. This moment is seared into my
- 1:18:53brain. Like what he was wearing, how it
- 1:18:56happened the morning after. It's all like in there,
- 1:19:00embedded. Is it the same way for you?
- 1:19:04No. No.
- 1:19:06No, because OK, the only part that is in my brain is when the
- 1:19:13lightning starts and then they start kissing.
- 1:19:18But after they start kissing, I'm like, oh, OK.
- 1:19:22I just, yeah, it ended for me. And I went to the next scene
- 1:19:26because I what again? What I was waiting for was the
- 1:19:31love child. Like, I just wanted to get to
- 1:19:35that area, so I didn't really care about how we got there.
- 1:19:41Uh huh. Obviously they have unprotected
- 1:19:43sex on this evening and because she gets pregnant she doesn't
- 1:19:48know. Nobody knows.
- 1:19:50We don't know as the if you're watching for the first time, you
- 1:19:52don't know. Even the next morning his mom
- 1:19:55comes and knocks on the door. She looks at Home Girl like a
- 1:20:00bug. Like an insect with a serious
- 1:20:05face Contempt and Home Girl is the one that convinces the male
- 1:20:11lead to have the surgery because her whole thing was like it's
- 1:20:15not over till it's over, the game's not over yet, keep
- 1:20:19playing. I don't know how she has the
- 1:20:23strength for that but if someone else right.
- 1:20:27So then he's tells his mom at that point, like, I'm going to
- 1:20:30go schedule surgery. I'm going to have it.
- 1:20:33I have found something to live for, is what he said.
- 1:20:42This is when I lost it at the mom because they go back to the
- 1:20:47house, their mansion. And the mom sort of opens up a
- 1:20:51little bit about like, you know, this whole situation and how
- 1:20:54she's struggling and her sisters want to lose her son and stuff.
- 1:20:59And the female lead tries to comfort the mom and she, like,
- 1:21:03puts a hand on her shoulder. And the mom says don't touch me
- 1:21:07with your filthy hands. Because right now you're just a
- 1:21:13tool and my son listens to you and I need my son to get the
- 1:21:17surgery. But we're not close.
- 1:21:21You're still air quotes beneath me, you're not deserving of him
- 1:21:27and I already have a woman for him.
- 1:21:31Yeah, Emily's there waiting. Yeah.
- 1:21:38I think the air got sucked out of the room though.
- 1:21:40When she said take your filthy hands off.
- 1:21:42I was like, Oh my gosh, bad news.
- 1:21:46So she's there throughout the whole of the preparations to get
- 1:21:50the surgery. They are going to do a bait and
- 1:21:52switch on him because the best chance of survival is to do this
- 1:21:56proton therapy. I used air quotes there that
- 1:22:00only the second female leads family has access to.
- 1:22:06They owe me or something. OK.
- 1:22:12It of course they have to separate the moms like you can
- 1:22:15be with him when he wakes up blah blah blah.
- 1:22:17You're just here as a caregiver. I'm I can even pay for your
- 1:22:20living expenses while you're here and dealing with all the
- 1:22:23pre op stuff. Of course you don't take no
- 1:22:27money. She's like, I'm just doing this
- 1:22:29because I love him at the goodness of my heart.
- 1:22:31I'm going to. Take the money.
- 1:22:32Take the money. Money.
- 1:22:35I'm waiting. I'm sitting here waiting for
- 1:22:37someone's mom to drop me like a wad of cash in an envelope.
- 1:22:42I would clearly take the money. So she denies this money being
- 1:22:49paid for all of this labor that she's doing, because it's labor.
- 1:22:53Yeah. She's with him through all the
- 1:22:56through all the pre op, all the tests, all the they're poking
- 1:22:59and prodding him, he's feeling sick, he doesn't feel good, blah
- 1:23:02blah blah. Girl, the most dramatic part of
- 1:23:06the show is about to happen because he goes in for surgery.
- 1:23:14And then he wakes up in. The.
- 1:23:18Surgery. Oh my.
- 1:23:19Gosh, they fuck up when they give him the anesthesia and he
- 1:23:24wakes up in the OR nothing. They haven't cut him open or
- 1:23:28nothing, but he wakes up and he realizes that Emily, the second
- 1:23:33female lead, is in the OR. And where is his surgeon that he
- 1:23:37was dealing with this whole time during pre op?
- 1:23:39Where are his? Where's the medical team that he
- 1:23:43was familiar with? And he's like y'all tricked me,
- 1:23:48y'all changed everything. I didn't agree to this.
- 1:23:51Where's Moo Chang? Where's my girl?
- 1:23:54And he goes running barefoot. Tell me why no one can stop this
- 1:23:58man from running out of the OR, running out of the hospital,
- 1:24:02running into the street, catching a cab and going all the
- 1:24:07way to MU Cheng's house. Nobody can stop.
- 1:24:10This man I could not it was the like he is lucky his gown did
- 1:24:20not show his bare ass. That's that's that that would
- 1:24:25have been like the top of this dramatic scene, but no one
- 1:24:32that's the thing this person is weak has been through so many
- 1:24:35shots etcetera, but he was able to evade everyone in the
- 1:24:40hospital and get to this girl's house.
- 1:24:44Did he get to her house or he? Got to her house and she was
- 1:24:47there with the second male lead about to leave because she
- 1:24:51packed up all her shit. And then she gets into.
- 1:24:58She breaks up with him. She's like, I don't want to be
- 1:25:00with someone who's not going to survive and all this stuff.
- 1:25:03Like she she basically breaks up with him brutally.
- 1:25:07That was cool. Doesn't doesn't say your mom
- 1:25:09made me do it. Because you know, she has to
- 1:25:13take all the blame. Yes, she's long-suffering.
- 1:25:17She actually, I think she likes suffering.
- 1:25:19Yeah. And she gets in the truck and
- 1:25:22drives off with the second male lead.
- 1:25:25And as they're driving off the. The.
- 1:25:29Creeper uncle the the creeper step uncle.
- 1:25:34The one who disappeared. The one who escaped after the
- 1:25:38hearing comes out of nowhere and stabs our male lead who's
- 1:25:45screaming and crying in the street with a hospital gown on.
- 1:25:53Oh my God, you cannot write this stuff today and expect people to
- 1:25:58to stick around. I remember the feeling of like,
- 1:26:03what else? What else can happen?
- 1:26:08I'll tell you what else. She has a love child and we get
- 1:26:11a time jump of six years and then the rest of the show
- 1:26:13happens. I I don't even remember them
- 1:26:18telling us that this is a time jump.
- 1:26:20I felt like it went black and then.
- 1:26:24There was no text on screen that said like six years later,
- 1:26:27nothing. It was just the kid.
- 1:26:29You see the kid and he's got his stupid little radio, fake radio,
- 1:26:34and he's signaling going miss you, miss you, which that
- 1:26:38triggered me like deep when I rewatched that and he was saying
- 1:26:41miss you, miss you. OK, it is triggering.
- 1:26:46He was so adorable. They could not have found a
- 1:26:51cuter kid to play their love child.
- 1:26:55He was so adorable. Perfect child actor.
- 1:26:59So cute and and and that kid had well, the character had more
- 1:27:07range than his dad. Shots fired.
- 1:27:18Shots fired. To me, because I remember when
- 1:27:26grandma is now spending time with him, not spending time, but
- 1:27:32she's just like irritated with his presence.
- 1:27:35And you see this kid extending grace and I'm just like, why is
- 1:27:43the kid the one doing it? Your dad could never, I'm sorry,
- 1:27:48I your dad could never. But he was a he did really,
- 1:27:55really well. I know he was such a good actor.
- 1:27:58When he cried and stuff, I was like, oh, my God, So cute.
- 1:28:02So you're defenseless against this kid when you're watching
- 1:28:05this show. Yeah.
- 1:28:08And you, they can't just have a love child.
- 1:28:10The love. There's something wrong with the
- 1:28:11love child. He's got type one diabetes.
- 1:28:18You just say long-suffering, she just has to continue suffering.
- 1:28:23She just. Cannot catch a break.
- 1:28:25She does not catch any breaks. Oh God.
- 1:28:29So wait, I have major nitpicks about Emily, the second female
- 1:28:34lead and the whole debacle of Head getting surgery because
- 1:28:39home girl said that she was in school in America for she was a
- 1:28:47medical school in America. And then she came over and she
- 1:28:50was like, I'm thinking of transferring to the school.
- 1:28:52So this school that the mom, the evil mom owns is everything.
- 1:28:59A medical school, a a ecology school, the what it's called law
- 1:29:05school, everything, everything all in one.
- 1:29:08She's like I'm. Thinking of transferring or
- 1:29:09whatever. I'm like transferring.
- 1:29:11Who transfers medical schools? Unless you're going to like
- 1:29:14Johns Hopkins. So anyway, I I was confused
- 1:29:18about that, but apparently no, she's not in school.
- 1:29:22She's already done and performing already in residency
- 1:29:26or something. What?
- 1:29:29She's already like, doing major surgeries.
- 1:29:33This was so frustrating to me because she is working directly
- 1:29:38with the proton therapy medical team.
- 1:29:41Yeah, actively working on his care.
- 1:29:44And I'm like, what does she have to do with anything?
- 1:29:47Because in my mind she is a pediatrician.
- 1:29:51Yeah. What is she doing working on a
- 1:29:5323 year old man with a brain tumor?
- 1:29:55So he was not clicking for me that she was there and in the OR
- 1:30:01and like I was like, why is she there?
- 1:30:04Why is she in these conversations with the doctors?
- 1:30:07Could it be because that is her family's business?
- 1:30:12It's not her family's, but this is like a side thing.
- 1:30:14They're over here making glass in factories.
- 1:30:17They have an almost. It's just like a side hustle for
- 1:30:19them. That's.
- 1:30:19Right. The proton therapy thing was
- 1:30:22like they invested in it and they have the technology and we
- 1:30:25have to go through them to get this, this treatment done
- 1:30:28because they're it's not on the market basically.
- 1:30:32So they they just needed someone there and they just combined
- 1:30:38everything they need into this girl.
- 1:30:41She was a Jack of all trades, evidently.
- 1:30:43And then when you do the six year time jump, you see all the
- 1:30:47things she did to help him through and recover.
- 1:30:49And I'm like, OK, I understand. I understand being there for a
- 1:30:55lot of this stuff, like him waking up, I understand she's
- 1:30:58there. I don't understand.
- 1:31:00She's the only person helping him to learn how to tie his
- 1:31:03shoelaces. I'm like, OK, where's the actual
- 1:31:06physical therapist? Where's the occupational
- 1:31:09therapist? Where's the speech therapist?
- 1:31:10Because he had to learn how to do everything over again, like
- 1:31:13start from scratch, how to walk, how to talk, how to tie his
- 1:31:16shoelaces. And I was like, why is she
- 1:31:19there? She is a pediatrician,
- 1:31:22Pediatrician. And then she's in there.
- 1:31:26You can see other PTS around the room, like helping people walk
- 1:31:29and stuff, and they're in uniform.
- 1:31:31She's not in uniform and she's in high heels.
- 1:31:36Jess, you're thinking too much. I was like, what is she doing
- 1:31:40with these wildly different specialties, medical
- 1:31:43specialties? And then later, it's not just
- 1:31:46that she's a pediatrician, she is a pediatric surgeon.
- 1:31:51So then I'm like even less what what Why would she be doing all
- 1:31:55of the. I was like reeling that they had
- 1:31:59her so dedicated to his medical care as if she was his sole Dr.
- 1:32:06You're thinking too much. I couldn't get through it.
- 1:32:10I couldn't get past it. And I'm sure if I looked closer
- 1:32:14at the law stuff that happened, like there's a, there's a whole
- 1:32:20fucking murder, there's a murder trial that happens in like the
- 1:32:27last two episodes of this show, a complete farce.
- 1:32:31Like that whole thing. Again, I don't want to go into
- 1:32:34details on that, but that was a whole other.
- 1:32:37That is not how law is conducted, ever.
- 1:32:40Ever. While while there was like the
- 1:32:46therapy happening for the victim and.
- 1:32:50That was not therapy. She was badgering her.
- 1:32:56Well, to them in the story, it was therapy.
- 1:33:01She was like, I finished my my sessions with her or something
- 1:33:07like that. She says the psychiatrist said
- 1:33:10something like that. And I was like, we're not going
- 1:33:13to talk about the PTSD that this girl has for life after what
- 1:33:17happened to her. Nope, Nope, no, no.
- 1:33:22She's good enough to testify. She figured we figured out, we
- 1:33:25unlocked her memories. I was trying to actively take
- 1:33:28away something that was comforting her, grabbing it out
- 1:33:31of her hands, and she had a breakthrough.
- 1:33:36I beg your pardon? Like it was.
- 1:33:40Wow. So triggering.
- 1:33:42So she basically triggered like her memories to come back in the
- 1:33:45most traumatic way possible. I don't even want to go into all
- 1:33:51that because it's so bizarre at the end of the show.
- 1:33:56My God. Just to make that second male
- 1:34:02lead fall in love. I don't think they needed to do
- 1:34:04all that. Oh my gosh, it was a pity pity
- 1:34:08ploy. Yeah, it was too much, but I
- 1:34:13knew I as soon as the main couple got together.
- 1:34:19I will say I did check out a little because especially.
- 1:34:24When when did you check out? You checked out when he finally
- 1:34:27recovered his memories. No, when when Tao Yue, the
- 1:34:34second male lead, started going through that whole thing with,
- 1:34:40you know, the confinement, the beating, that that's when I
- 1:34:45checked out. I was just like, I'm bored.
- 1:34:52I'd skip all his parts and I kept up.
- 1:34:55I kept up with the main leads. But I think the last straw for
- 1:35:00me was when they had gone to that hotel and this girl from
- 1:35:06the car shows up again and she's just like going through her
- 1:35:12antics about wanting him again and her changing her outfit.
- 1:35:16I'm like, babe, you look fantastic in the first outfit.
- 1:35:19Fuck is this There's so. Many things like you don't think
- 1:35:23that characters are going to come back.
- 1:35:25That first girl, the girl that was like taken off her jewelry
- 1:35:29and was in the car with him during the meet queue in episode
- 1:35:32one she kidnaps Moo Chang before pre surgery.
- 1:35:38Do you remember this? Like they were like.
- 1:35:40What the he's? Going to come and get her.
- 1:35:42Yeah. They're like trying to.
- 1:35:44That's attempted murder to me. It is.
- 1:35:47It's attempted murder because they're they're shooting hockey
- 1:35:50pucks at him. He has no padding on and he's
- 1:35:52just protecting the female lead who's sitting bound in in front
- 1:35:58of the goal goal. So that girl did that.
- 1:36:05She stole the CCTV footage from the sexual assault that happened
- 1:36:09in the Music Hall and then she comes back at the end of the
- 1:36:13show because she's on her 4th divorce.
- 1:36:16Mind you, this is after the time jump.
- 1:36:17So it's been six years. She's on her 4th divorce.
- 1:36:19She wants to hire the male lead to to handle the divorce and she
- 1:36:24gets in between our couple like the main couple.
- 1:36:29And again, at that point I was just like, OK, why now?
- 1:36:36What else number one? But by now I needed to see.
- 1:36:41I don't want to say I wanted to see bumping and grinding, but it
- 1:36:44was just like, OK, you're married now.
- 1:36:49They have so much chemistry. There's so much chemistry there,
- 1:36:52yet nothing is happening in this show.
- 1:36:59And so it lost me just a little because I was like, I'm so
- 1:37:03annoyed that you didn't do the seduction.
- 1:37:06You could have added it. You've done everything else.
- 1:37:09You could have added it. They are so magical together in
- 1:37:13the town when he is there for like a week doing the 240 hours
- 1:37:19of community service, which that's ludicrous as well.
- 1:37:23But but he's that's how he makes it to the town.
- 1:37:27That's how they reunite and he stays with her and the kid and
- 1:37:34that whole week, week and 1/2 or whatever is magical because
- 1:37:39there's like vibes between them. He's like, do I know you?
- 1:37:42She's like, no. And he's he's getting glimpses
- 1:37:47of this past that's come coming back to his memory and he's like
- 1:37:51finding that she's so familiar. He's so attracted to her.
- 1:37:54But then he is fully in love with the kid.
- 1:37:57The kid is so lovable and he cannot get enough of the kid.
- 1:38:02He loves the kid, which is his biological child, so that whole
- 1:38:08bit of the show is so addicting to watch.
- 1:38:12I agree. I will say though, the other
- 1:38:15part that I I love watching is when the kid is injured in the
- 1:38:20hospital and Emily is like, I need blood.
- 1:38:28And she and she and she pretty much tells us the audience that
- 1:38:34it can't be with someone who's directly related.
- 1:38:38For some reason. And then he says, oh, I'll
- 1:38:44donate, I'll donate. Blood for the kid.
- 1:38:48Mochek is like, you can't do it. Anyone but him.
- 1:38:52He can't donate blood and throws it back to the second meal lead
- 1:38:57to donate blood. And somehow Homeboy doesn't
- 1:39:00catch on. Does it.
- 1:39:01He's so astute in other parts of the show, but he doesn't clock
- 1:39:07that. He doesn't clock that.
- 1:39:09She's like, uh, uh, he can't give blood.
- 1:39:11After this girl has just explained that no one who is
- 1:39:16directly related, I can't I can't I.
- 1:39:20Can't. It's right there.
- 1:39:24It's right there. Exactly.
- 1:39:27Oh my God, yeah. He doesn't remember until what
- 1:39:30is it, the photo memory card that's in the brace that like
- 1:39:36falls out when he's cleaning it and then he puts.
- 1:39:39It in IA micro card into a micro SD card into an SD card into an
- 1:39:49SD card reader that has ausb into the computer.
- 1:39:53I was like. Yes, that's what's up.
- 1:39:56That's what's up, bro. Because what, you mean we have
- 1:40:05to do all these stuff? The steps that that took, oh
- 1:40:09God, that killed me. I, I thought the same thing.
- 1:40:12I was like, oh, oh, how far we've come.
- 1:40:16That was painful. It was so painful.
- 1:40:20I love the photo with the backgrounds the backgrounds of.
- 1:40:28The the photo studio photos that pop up, Oh my God.
- 1:40:32And yo, they look bad in those photos.
- 1:40:35They do, they look so bad her with her straight bangs and.
- 1:40:42Oh, they look awful in those photos.
- 1:40:45And you know what else looks bad?
- 1:40:47It's 09. This show is vintage.
- 1:40:50I Yeah. Like this has no semblance of of
- 1:40:54style or cinematography or just like color grade, basic color
- 1:40:58grading. Like they look washed out one
- 1:41:01minute and like real tan the next minute.
- 1:41:04There is no consistency, no artistry here.
- 1:41:08This is just like someone showed up with a camera one day.
- 1:41:12The sound mix. Oh, it's.
- 1:41:14Oh, the sound mixing. Tell me why we're hearing
- 1:41:18cicadas throughout the entirety of the show.
- 1:41:22Right. It's bad, like the sound.
- 1:41:25They were not mixing anything. This is all live sound.
- 1:41:31It was just point and shoot y'all.
- 1:41:33It was just point and shoot, but that's part of the charm.
- 1:41:40Like, I think that's part of the charm.
- 1:41:42Oh the music. First of all, there's only like
- 1:41:453 songs in the whole show recycled in the OST.
- 1:41:51But then they cut them up up. They cut them off abruptly like
- 1:41:55in between scenes and inside the same scene they'll like stop the
- 1:42:00song instead of fading it out or having transitions or anything.
- 1:42:05It is so jarring. You cannot, you cannot watch
- 1:42:10this for technical ability. No, you're just you're just
- 1:42:14there for vibes. You're just there for vibes.
- 1:42:18That's all the. Story, the chemistry, the cast,
- 1:42:22the characters. The fashion.
- 1:42:25The fashion, I could get behind the fashion for some reason.
- 1:42:31I I lived it OK. I lived.
- 1:42:34It I lived it. This is the year I graduated
- 1:42:36from high school. Was it?
- 1:42:3809, yeah. I graduated in 07, so two years
- 1:42:44out, but I was like. But still this is all this.
- 1:42:46Feeling good. Yeah, it's for us.
- 1:42:51The belt is the one that kills me because the belt is never a
- 1:42:54leather belt. It's always like a woven kind of
- 1:42:59thing going on. I was really just vibing with
- 1:43:08the hairstyles and the makeup styling and the wardrobe.
- 1:43:14For sure. I couldn't jive with the
- 1:43:17technical aspects of how this thing looks and sounds, but
- 1:43:21again, I'm very forgiving when it comes to production of
- 1:43:25things. Even acting like this acting
- 1:43:28style would never that would never get so much black.
- 1:43:38It it just we're shaking our heads over here.
- 1:43:41So what else do you want to talk about in this show?
- 1:43:44Because it so he figures it out like he finally gets his memory
- 1:43:50back. And here's the point where I
- 1:43:52think this is the the end of this show is near because this
- 1:43:58is the point we've been waiting for.
- 1:43:59We want him to remember his past, remember her, realize
- 1:44:03that's his son. OK.
- 1:44:08So So what happens is instead of him realizing it and coming to
- 1:44:12her and being like, I remember everything, let's get together,
- 1:44:15I love you or seduction. Yeah.
- 1:44:19What happens is he's pissed at everybody.
- 1:44:23He's so mad at the past six years, he calls off his wedding
- 1:44:28to Emily. Like basically leaves her at the
- 1:44:30altar. She's literally dressed in her
- 1:44:33wedding dress already. It's it's a mess and.
- 1:44:36Mind you. Mind you, I'm asking why is sis
- 1:44:40the one decorating the the church for the wedding?
- 1:44:45That's 'cause she's in town, I guess, in Taipei.
- 1:44:49What? Everyone else is in Hua Village.
- 1:44:52They're like we'll. Send you the we'll send.
- 1:44:55You the flowers. Why is Emily allowing her to
- 1:44:59decorate? Emily doesn't know she's there
- 1:45:02to decorate. That's right.
- 1:45:04That's right. This is all happening real fast,
- 1:45:07real fast 'cause they push the wedding up.
- 1:45:09Yeah, yeah. Man, So yeah, she's there in the
- 1:45:15this is crazy. Like, I'm, I'm trying to wrap my
- 1:45:19head around this, but yeah, they move the wedding up and everyone
- 1:45:25has reservations. By everyone.
- 1:45:26I mean Emily is having second thoughts.
- 1:45:29She's having real bad doubts. He's having doubts, but he
- 1:45:32doesn't remember his past yet. Then he remembers and all hell
- 1:45:37breaks loose because he calls off the wedding.
- 1:45:39He goes to see her. She's fucking playing the Piano
- 1:45:43Concerto and G major by Bach again in the church because
- 1:45:48she's there early to set up for the wedding.
- 1:45:52OK. So he reveals that he remembers
- 1:45:59everything. 00 and then Mr. Dramatic drives her to the spot
- 1:46:08where she abandoned. Abandoned.
- 1:46:12Air quotes. Yes, air quotes.
- 1:46:15Abandoned him, she recognizes it and and then he's like, I'm
- 1:46:22coming from my son. He tells her I'm gonna take my
- 1:46:26son. I'm going for full custody of
- 1:46:29Shaola. Instead of just saying.
- 1:46:33It's the. Right, this this show.
- 1:46:37OK, the show. He was just like from zero to
- 1:46:4060. He's pissed.
- 1:46:41We get it. We got it.
- 1:46:42We got it, but he goes. From He tells her, You're gonna
- 1:46:45lose your son. I'm gonna take my son back.
- 1:46:50How could you not tell me that's my son and all this stuff?
- 1:46:52Because for all these episodes she's been swearing up and down
- 1:46:56that that's not his son, dude, that's not your dad, blah blah
- 1:47:00blah. Stop saying that you guys are
- 1:47:02related and stop because the kid swore up and down that that's
- 1:47:06his alien dad. You chose not to believe him.
- 1:47:12What can she say? So he says he's going to go for
- 1:47:18full custody. She is scared shitless.
- 1:47:20She goes back to the town, Hua Village, and starts packing up
- 1:47:24her shit. She's going to, like, bounce.
- 1:47:28Yeah. And she thinks the best thing
- 1:47:31that they should do, actually, the second male lead says the
- 1:47:34best thing we should do is you're you have an unstable
- 1:47:37income. You're a single mom.
- 1:47:39You you have a lot of strikes against you if this goes to
- 1:47:42court and he goes for full custody.
- 1:47:45So why don't we get married? Finally, he shows himself and
- 1:47:51his plan all along. Exactly.
- 1:47:54Was to try and get married and that is pathetic.
- 1:47:59It's like, remember startup with Hanji Pyong?
- 1:48:03I can't. Even remember.
- 1:48:04His. It is Hanji Pyong I have.
- 1:48:09I can't believe you're opening this can of worms right now
- 1:48:10because I've been avoiding TikTok.
- 1:48:13OK, talk to me about Hanji Pyong and startup.
- 1:48:16Talk to me. Wait, have you ever seen
- 1:48:18Startup? I have to.
- 1:48:20Yeah, I have seen Startup. There's an episode, actually a
- 1:48:22Tabak episode on Startup. Yeah, OK.
- 1:48:26All right. So what controversial thing are
- 1:48:28you going to say right now? I'm not going to say anything
- 1:48:31controversial. People are so hot for Hanji
- 1:48:33Pyong, I have no idea. I was not hot for him.
- 1:48:37OK, me, and I'll tell you why. Because I'm just like you had
- 1:48:42how many ever years? I forget how many years it was,
- 1:48:47but you had time to state exactly your intention.
- 1:48:54And then only again, only when the male lead comes back, then
- 1:48:58you feel agitated. So to me, you didn't really like
- 1:49:04me. You're a coward.
- 1:49:06You are. You were OK with it being as is
- 1:49:12and saying that was enough for you when it wasn't.
- 1:49:16You're not honoring your feelings, but you're also not
- 1:49:19respecting my time and my feelings.
- 1:49:25OK, so So what does this have to do?
- 1:49:28How? How are you connecting Hanji
- 1:49:30Pyong with the 2nd? Male lead reminds me of that
- 1:49:34second male lead where all of a sudden, like you said in the
- 1:49:38beginning, he was only friends with her to get something from
- 1:49:42her. He never had the balls to do it
- 1:49:44himself. He didn't have the courage to
- 1:49:47say exactly what he wanted. He just wanted her in his orbit.
- 1:49:54And then when he felt threatened all of a sudden, oh I am the
- 1:49:59saviour you need, let's get married.
- 1:50:02No, that was that was such a trash take.
- 1:50:08And I understand his intention. I think he wanted to show that
- 1:50:13he can provide stability, but on.
- 1:50:18Paper at least. On paper.
- 1:50:20But where were you when I had a kid?
- 1:50:24When I had a kid, Why didn't you tell me?
- 1:50:25Let's get married so that I won't be a single mother So that
- 1:50:30your name can be on his birth certificate.
- 1:50:33Like what exactly is up with you?
- 1:50:38Yeah. So no, that was just a move to
- 1:50:42keep. Yeah, our guy away.
- 1:50:45He thought that was a checkmate on his side.
- 1:50:47He was like, oh, checkmate. I'm going to get married to this
- 1:50:51girl finally because she's in dire straits.
- 1:50:54She needs a man to make her look more presentable as a mother on
- 1:51:01paper so that she can keep custody of her child.
- 1:51:04And I'm like, damn, that's dirty it.
- 1:51:06And it comes across as so noble in the show, right?
- 1:51:09Like he's like, I'll do this, you know, thing.
- 1:51:12And I'm like, bitch, you wanted this the whole time.
- 1:51:15So anyway, he does this. They have a meeting with the
- 1:51:18male lead where they tell him this plan, but they make it seem
- 1:51:22like they're so in love and they're holding hands and stuff.
- 1:51:24And MO Cheng again, is just letting him kind of spin this
- 1:51:28story 'cause she's so timid and like, you know, not, not
- 1:51:34assertive at all. And she's just like, you can
- 1:51:38tell she loves her son deeply and doesn't want to be parted
- 1:51:43from him. But she doesn't say, I don't
- 1:51:44want you to have full custody. So I'm going to marry this dude.
- 1:51:47She's just there silent. She's letting the 2nd man lead
- 1:51:50do all the talking. And the man lead comes up with
- 1:51:54this brilliant plan, which is I'm going to you're I'm going to
- 1:51:59sabotage this thing. He sabotages it immediately.
- 1:52:02He puts the second mill lead behind bars for actually
- 1:52:05something pretty valid, which is they were doing like a moonshine
- 1:52:09operation out of her his mom's restaurant.
- 1:52:13And he has them all arrested. And after that, after that goes
- 1:52:19S he's like, I'll get him out of jail and I'll drop the charges
- 1:52:22and everything. Why don't we get married?
- 1:52:25I'll marry you and you can what you obviously you can keep
- 1:52:29custody of of the kid and take. Care of him.
- 1:52:35You can keep taking care of him. Yeah, your every need will be,
- 1:52:40you know, met. You don't have to worry about
- 1:52:44money, but I even have a nanny for you.
- 1:52:48Like it's a no brainer for him. They both love each other.
- 1:52:55He's being such a fart to her throughout the rest of the show
- 1:53:00honestly. He is constantly wanting her to
- 1:53:03prove her love and she never says that she loves him, that
- 1:53:08she's on his side, that she left him six years ago because of XYZ
- 1:53:14and the other never tells the truth.
- 1:53:17And the miscommunication trope becomes real annoying during
- 1:53:21these sets of episodes after they get married because there's
- 1:53:24so many conversations that they start right where it's like, why
- 1:53:28did you leave six years ago? Why did this?
- 1:53:30Why did that, ha ha ha. And she will start to say why,
- 1:53:35and he'll cut her off. Yes.
- 1:53:38He won't let her finish the sentence because he's so afraid
- 1:53:41of what her answer is. Yeah, he's.
- 1:53:43So afraid that it's a it's a heartbreak that it's some reason
- 1:53:48that he can't come to terms with.
- 1:53:49So he never lets her finish the sentence.
- 1:53:51And The thing is, him cutting her off, she doesn't like finish
- 1:53:56the sentence despite him cutting off.
- 1:53:57He she lets him, cut him, cut her off, cut over and over and
- 1:54:03over again. Yeah, until, I think, until the
- 1:54:08last love confession where I do distinctly remember her saying I
- 1:54:13haven't finished what I what I was saying.
- 1:54:16Uh huh. And I was like, finally.
- 1:54:18Yeah, yeah, she finally was like, I'm going to tell you how
- 1:54:22I feel, but it took everybody telling her you need to speak
- 1:54:25up. Yeah.
- 1:54:28Because they were both so passive and like, one person
- 1:54:30would make a decision and the other one would just be like,
- 1:54:32OK, fine, yeah, I guess I guess we'll break up.
- 1:54:35I guess this, I guess that. And it's like, OK, hold the
- 1:54:38fucking phone and let's talk this through.
- 1:54:41So if miscommunication is going to dog you, like, I'm sorry,
- 1:54:47this show in the back half, it's in spades.
- 1:54:50It's in spades. There's so many times that this
- 1:54:56show could have ended in an episode or two if they just
- 1:54:59talked it out, let each other say what they need to say.
- 1:55:06Sorry. Also.
- 1:55:08Yeah, also when the wedding was cancelled and home girl Emily is
- 1:55:15talking to her dad and she's like, I'm coming up with all
- 1:55:18these excuses to tell people that the wedding is cancelled
- 1:55:21and. Oh, I don't feel bad for her at.
- 1:55:24All I don't feel bad for her at all, but at the same time I'm
- 1:55:28sitting there like, but you know, he doesn't love you.
- 1:55:33Like she was just a an incomplete character for me
- 1:55:39because she's so good and so caring and you know, when she
- 1:55:45was doing the surgery for the kids, she's like, you gotta
- 1:55:48survive. Everybody is like waiting for
- 1:55:51you. And yet you were still going to
- 1:55:54marry this man, and then now you're.
- 1:55:58Just like she was ready to trap him.
- 1:56:00Yeah, and now she's like, I don't know what excuse to keep
- 1:56:04telling me no, just telling people that it didn't work out.
- 1:56:07That's it. Everybody and their mom knows he
- 1:56:10had a brain surgery and he recovered.
- 1:56:14All you got to say is he remembered his past.
- 1:56:18That's it. Deals off.
- 1:56:22That's all she had to say. Yeah.
- 1:56:26Unfortunately, things changed after he remembered everything.
- 1:56:32Ain't no room for me now, sorry. Exactly.
- 1:56:35Here's your gift. Sending it.
- 1:56:37Sending it all back. She's trying to save face like
- 1:56:42she was trying to save face, girl.
- 1:56:48Then she just ate. She peace out.
- 1:56:51Yeah, she peace out. I think the last thing we
- 1:56:53haven't talked about is the mom. Like his mom.
- 1:56:57Yeah, I don't think there's much to talk about her.
- 1:57:01She had this major change of heart at the end of the show.
- 1:57:04Did you think it was believable? No.
- 1:57:10Yeah. All right.
- 1:57:11All right. Because she was so gung ho about
- 1:57:16keeping them apart, about keeping Moo Chung and her son
- 1:57:21apart. Yeah.
- 1:57:23Did everything she could to orchestrate his life, put it how
- 1:57:27she wanted, get him with Emily, make him sort of heartless.
- 1:57:34A heartless individual, Focus on money, but highly professionally
- 1:57:38successful. That's what she wanted.
- 1:57:41Exactly. And then you're gonna tell me in
- 1:57:43the end, because he understands you.
- 1:57:45All of a sudden that melted your heart and you found who you
- 1:57:50truly are within. No.
- 1:57:53I think she fell in love with the grandkid.
- 1:57:57She did, I think. She liked being a grandma a lot
- 1:58:00and how she kind of got to right some wrongs and learn how to
- 1:58:06mother a little bit from Moo Chung and that sort of changed
- 1:58:10her mindset. Even though she hated Moo Chung.
- 1:58:13Like that didn't make sense that she was basically complimenting
- 1:58:16her at the end of the show and being like, we both love our
- 1:58:19sons, just in different ways. Like that was what Moo Chung
- 1:58:23said when she apologized when the mom, a mom, the mom
- 1:58:25apologized to Moo Chung for like doing all this shit to her and
- 1:58:31Moo Chung didn't accept the didn't say thank you.
- 1:58:35I appreciate the apology because you were real shitty to me for a
- 1:58:38long time and you really did screw up our lives.
- 1:58:42She said, no, it's OK. You know, we're both mothers and
- 1:58:47we both love our sons, and we just love them in different
- 1:58:49ways. I'm like, babes, look at the
- 1:58:52damage. There's carnage all around.
- 1:58:56Yeah. But that's muchang for you from
- 1:59:00beginning to end. She's just this forgiving
- 1:59:04character. Angel of a person.
- 1:59:07Yeah, yeah. She has no, she never gets
- 1:59:11angry. When when the mom was scolding
- 1:59:15her about something like the mom came to their house and she was
- 1:59:20scolding her about I was just like, who the hell do you think
- 1:59:24you're talking to? Like I raised this kid.
- 1:59:27This should have been the moment where Moo Chung gives her some
- 1:59:32boundaries. You're just a grandma.
- 1:59:37Sorry but I. No, but she is.
- 1:59:40She's a, she's not the mother, she's the grandma.
- 1:59:42And she just got here. And you just got here that.
- 1:59:46Part You've had two conversations with the grandkid.
- 1:59:51And then you see the male lead just standing by the wall, arms
- 1:59:56crossed, and I'm just like, are you gonna let her talk to her
- 1:59:59like that? Like what's?
- 2:00:00That bro, it's it's so frustrating.
- 2:00:08It's so frustrating. I think Moo Chung, her
- 2:00:11personality is just, you would never like.
- 2:00:17It's so rare to see this person in real life.
- 2:00:20Yeah. And because of that, and because
- 2:00:24our sensibilities have changed over time, they just don't make
- 2:00:30them like this. They don't make female leads
- 2:00:31like this anymore. It is unbelievable how much she
- 2:00:37takes in the show and she's just stays standing.
- 2:00:41From the beginning till the end she was taking shit.
- 2:00:45Oh my gosh, from all sides. So the so the grandma becomes
- 2:00:51very much softened by being the grandma and she becomes OK.
- 2:00:58Like she reconciles with Moo Chung and then she reconciles
- 2:01:03with her son. And when he is threatening
- 2:01:06divorce with Moo Chung in the final episodes, she's the one
- 2:01:09who's comes in and says, like, I think you should reconsider.
- 2:01:12She tells both of them like, I hope you work it out because you
- 2:01:17know, I think you should. And I'm like what?
- 2:01:21Exactly. Ain't no way ain't.
- 2:01:23No way, ain't no way. So also, I think she found
- 2:01:29common ground with Moochong because she's a single mom and
- 2:01:31then her her the grandma was also a single mom.
- 2:01:35OK, she was a single mom in it for a long time.
- 2:01:39And the last thing I'll say is the the grandma was not at fault
- 2:01:46at all for the suicide of her husband.
- 2:01:50The male leads mom. She wasn't.
- 2:01:54She got cheated on. This was so messy.
- 2:01:57This was the whole show was messy, but this was particularly
- 2:01:59messy in the latter episodes. Was this reveal that she It's
- 2:02:05like this noble idiocy thing where she's like, I would rather
- 2:02:08be seen as the bad guy to my son for his whole life than to
- 2:02:13destroy the image he has of his dead father.
- 2:02:17And what happened was the father, the Music Hall guy, was
- 2:02:24having an affair with a student and was fully like, we're in
- 2:02:28love. I'm going to leave you.
- 2:02:30And so they get divorced. And she says, do not ever let
- 2:02:34our son know that this is going on because it'll destroy him.
- 2:02:38And I want him to have a father. And then a year later, after
- 2:02:42their divorce or their separation or whatever, the dad
- 2:02:45commits suicide. And he was supposed to commit
- 2:02:49suicide at the same time as his side chick.
- 2:02:54But she is like the. Student.
- 2:02:57She's just like I changed my mind.
- 2:02:59Bye. First of all, first of all,
- 2:03:03what? You both commit suicide at the
- 2:03:07same time. Oh my God, so they're connected
- 2:03:11in another life, I guess. I don't believe it.
- 2:03:15It's so I have my hands on my forehead.
- 2:03:19Like I'm just like, God, it's so much.
- 2:03:23It's too much. Like they were doing too much at
- 2:03:25the end of the show. They were doing too much
- 2:03:26throughout the show. But that was a lot to unpack in
- 2:03:30the last episode or two that she was hiding all this and she was
- 2:03:36like, I'll be the bad guy. Till the end, the show was like
- 2:03:40we will give you everything, everything, every.
- 2:03:43Troll everything. Arrocco, Mango, everything.
- 2:03:50What do you mean you, you change your mind from killing yourself?
- 2:03:54We agreed together. What?
- 2:03:59So I Oh my God, I'd be so pissed.
- 2:04:02I would. Be so I'd get to the afterlife
- 2:04:04and be like, are you fucking kidding me?
- 2:04:07Are you kidding me? I would haunt you for the rest
- 2:04:13of your life until you come join me.
- 2:04:16I'm not even kidding. Like what?
- 2:04:20Such a but they're both such trash.
- 2:04:23Like I guess it was serving to highlight like he's unstable,
- 2:04:26he's trash, and the freaking student mistress is also just
- 2:04:31trash. Yeah, yeah.
- 2:04:33Oh God, it's so bad. I still really like the show.
- 2:04:40I don't know about you, but like there's something about it.
- 2:04:44But I'm like, you know what? It's crazy.
- 2:04:48It's stupid at times. It spins its wheels at times.
- 2:04:53This couple didn't get enough seduction and skinship, but it's
- 2:04:58it's a classic. It's iconic.
- 2:05:01I don't know. I see every flaw.
- 2:05:04I do. I do.
- 2:05:07But I'll still watch it again. But I'll still do it again.
- 2:05:10I will do it again. Yeah.
- 2:05:18It's like going on a roller coaster and you're like, wow,
- 2:05:20this thing's about to fall apart.
- 2:05:23I shouldn't do that again. But that was so much fun.
- 2:05:25Let's do it again. Let's get on it again.
- 2:05:28That is what this show is. Yeah, I agree.
- 2:05:32I agree. I'm so glad that we talked this
- 2:05:35through. We experienced this together.
- 2:05:37Was there anything else that you wanted to say about this show?
- 2:05:42Yo, if you haven't watched it, just watch it.
- 2:05:46Just watch it. Just just watch it.
- 2:05:50If you can watch marry my husband or or I don't know.
- 2:05:57I don't know. So why?
- 2:05:58Did you have to marry my husband?
- 2:05:59That's that's just. Bringing up a modern mock Jung.
- 2:06:02That's all. Not yeah, not not that specific
- 2:06:06show is similar to this show in any way.
- 2:06:10Queen of Tears. Yes.
- 2:06:14You can watch this. Yes, thank you.
- 2:06:19Thank you. If you can watch Queen of Tears,
- 2:06:22which just surpassed Goblin in terms of TV and ratings, which
- 2:06:28is. Just blowing my mind.
- 2:06:31Blowing my little mind. If you can watch Queen of Tears,
- 2:06:35you can watch Autumn's Concerto. Yeah, I I don't know how I feel
- 2:06:43about Queen of Tears. I need, I need to sit down and
- 2:06:46write it out because I'm very annoyed.
- 2:06:52But that's for another episode. OK, OK, maybe it's a hot.
- 2:06:59Oh, do you want to do a hot takes after this?
- 2:07:02We could do that. And it's queen of tears.
- 2:07:05OK, so if you wanna pop over to the Patreon feed, there will be
- 2:07:10a hot takes and we've already revealed what the topic is
- 2:07:13because Carol has some stuff on her mind, but I don't have
- 2:07:18anything else to say really about Autumns.
- 2:07:21I think we covered it all. We kind of did a recap as well
- 2:07:24as just fangirling and laughing our way through all of the
- 2:07:28nonsense. But if you've come this far, I
- 2:07:31really appreciate it. This was a ton of fun to
- 2:07:35revisit. Honestly I had no problem
- 2:07:38rewatching it. I don't know about you, I had no
- 2:07:41issues with watching. This.
- 2:07:42Me neither. I did watch that 1.25 speed but.
- 2:07:47OK, but that's you've you've already watched it and you
- 2:07:50already know what you would rather see.
- 2:07:54And the stuff with the second male lead in the last half where
- 2:07:56he's like saving the girl that he grew up with and that girl
- 2:08:01got like it got too much. Air time too.
- 2:08:05It got too much air time, it was overdramatic, There was a murder
- 2:08:09and there was a trial. It was crazy.
- 2:08:12Also, they kidnap the they fake a kidnapping in the last episode
- 2:08:16to bring the couple to our main couple together.
- 2:08:21What? Honestly, this has everything.
- 2:08:24This club has everything. OK, honestly, honestly if you if
- 2:08:31you are looking for a 10 course meal, this is it's this.
- 2:08:36I love that. I love that.
- 2:08:37In school, Yeah. It's everything you want, but
- 2:08:42they're great. Like, I love this couple.
- 2:08:44Like, despite everything, I love this couple.
- 2:08:45Anyway, yeah. Before we get out of here,
- 2:08:48Carol, where can people find you online?
- 2:08:51You can find me on Instagram as K dramas musings and for now
- 2:08:58that's the only spot I'm at. I will be back again in the
- 2:09:03summer on TikTok and on on X same name so gotcha.
