- 0:20Speaker 1: Scuba, Steve Death, roomshot, Redmond Baggie room Shot, Stacey Stacey,
- 0:31Speaker 1: Stacey were Snake by Whiskey.
- 0:33Speaker 2: We've got a new song, Living to Die, coming out
- 0:36Speaker 2: on Friday, and yeah, we're absolutely pumps. Can't wait for
- 0:39Speaker 2: everyone to hear it, get it into everyone's heads and
- 0:42Speaker 2: earballs and get everyone singing.
- 0:43Speaker 3: On and plassy guys, thanks to Joya's always the pace
- 0:46Speaker 3: you catch it up. Indeed, indeed, indeed, so as you say,
- 0:51Speaker 3: Steak white Whiskey, unleash your new singer, Living to Die
- 0:53Speaker 3: this Friday, June the twenty seventh. So how you feeling
- 0:56Speaker 3: about it?
- 0:59Speaker 4: It's been journey ready, yeah, ready, long journey, so yeah,
- 1:06Speaker 4: long time on the Megan and a lot of work's
- 1:08Speaker 4: going on, an effort, and it's it's it's come out
- 1:12Speaker 4: the other side exactly how we wanted to say, actually
- 1:16Speaker 4: better than what we thought.
- 1:17Speaker 3: So dive into a bit more musically for us and guys,
- 1:20Speaker 3: and then what are you going for with this particular song?
- 1:24Speaker 5: Well, so the background. I actually wrote the riff in
- 1:29Speaker 5: ninety ninety four. It was a song that I wrote
- 1:32Speaker 5: for my wife when I first got with her, and
- 1:35Speaker 5: we've been we've been together thirty one years, so it's
- 1:37Speaker 5: a bit sentimental to me. And I just started playing
- 1:39Speaker 5: the riff when we were jamming once and Jay picked
- 1:42Speaker 5: up on us, gone what's that and He's got got
- 1:44Speaker 5: lyrics straight away, and then Dan's jumped in these frowning choruses.
- 1:48Speaker 5: And I just built and built from this one little
- 1:51Speaker 5: riff that I had and turned in an epic benure
- 1:54Speaker 5: yea and came out the other side spot on.
- 1:57Speaker 2: It's a big song, you know. We we've called it
- 2:01Speaker 2: a bit of a rock anthem, and it is harkens
- 2:03Speaker 2: back to kind of the old days of Aussie rock.
- 2:06Speaker 2: It's something that everyone can get on board with. It's
- 2:09Speaker 2: not just for the hard rockers. It's you know, it's
- 2:11Speaker 2: something that I think a lot more people will enjoy.
- 2:15Speaker 2: It's extremely catchy and it's a lot of fun for
- 2:19Speaker 2: us to play, and we just, yeah, we can't wait
- 2:21Speaker 2: for people to get it in their heads and start
- 2:23Speaker 2: singing along with us.
- 2:26Speaker 6: Musically, it's a little bit outside the box being.
- 2:30Speaker 5: The songs in major, like in a major striking major key,
- 2:33Speaker 5: normally major keys happy and it's got a happy vibe
- 2:36Speaker 5: that the.
- 2:36Speaker 6: Lyrics are deep and meaningful. So the two balance out.
- 2:41Speaker 5: It's quite a unique formula, which I don't think it's
- 2:44Speaker 5: been done for.
- 2:45Speaker 6: A while, So it's sort of like a it's in
- 2:48Speaker 6: the box but outside the box.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Anothering you neat thing I found with this song too,
- 2:53Speaker 3: like it's got an extended intro with the vocals not
- 2:55Speaker 3: coming into around the one minute mark. These days, when
- 2:58Speaker 3: people are in such a rush you canssume everything. You know,
- 3:00Speaker 3: you don't see enough of that, But I think it
- 3:02Speaker 3: builds the song up nicely just having that that music
- 3:05Speaker 3: before everything else kicks in.
- 3:07Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Yeah, we think it needed that to really kind of
- 3:10Speaker 2: settle people into the journey of the song and give
- 3:13Speaker 2: it that kind of landscape that we kind of wanted.
- 3:16Speaker 2: So peace before it, come before the storm, for sure.
- 3:20Speaker 2: I think I think people will be patient with that
- 3:24Speaker 2: intro because of, like you say, the tension that it
- 3:27Speaker 2: builds and the expectation that it builds for the for
- 3:31Speaker 2: the song. So yeah, again, it was something different. A
- 3:33Speaker 2: lot of the other stuff we're writing now for the
- 3:35Speaker 2: new album is far more immediate, but this one's an
- 3:38Speaker 2: outlier that's a bit more of a journey.
- 3:42Speaker 3: And am I correct in saying that Living to Die
- 3:44Speaker 3: is a bit mellower the usual songs.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Yea very much though, Yeah, yeah, because.
- 3:50Speaker 3: I listener and thinking, now, this isn't what I remember them.
- 3:52Speaker 3: Sounded like it's good, but it is not what you'd expect,
- 3:55Speaker 3: which is even better.
- 3:56Speaker 5: Yeah, that's what we're saying. All outside Snake Bites Whiskey's box,
- 4:01Speaker 5: but it's still within within the box being Jay's vocals bring.
- 4:06Speaker 6: The sleeves rock old school back into it.
- 4:11Speaker 5: So the formula of the major key and the happiness
- 4:15Speaker 5: and then Jay's lyrics and these vocals that just ties
- 4:18Speaker 5: it all together, snake by perfect that.
- 4:20Speaker 7: The storyline of the video that's coming out made it
- 4:23Speaker 7: sort of shows, I guess what the band sort of
- 4:26Speaker 7: tries to epitomize a little bit that we can you know,
- 4:29Speaker 7: you can get stuck in the daily grind, or you
- 4:31Speaker 7: can try to live life.
- 4:32Speaker 6: To the fullest.
- 4:33Speaker 7: Is what we try to do with this with Snake
- 4:36Speaker 7: Bite and what we bring to the to the stage.
- 4:38Speaker 6: So yeah, hopefully.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Yeah, we always knew it wasn't as as straight down
- 4:44Speaker 2: the middle as Snake Bite Whiskey has been and now
- 4:47Speaker 2: last single was. We always knew that, So it's certainly
- 4:50Speaker 2: intentional to write a song like this with a we
- 4:53Speaker 2: call it a broader appeal, and you know, we're just
- 4:57Speaker 2: we're We've enjoyed it. The song's really really sentimental to Steve.
- 5:01Speaker 2: It's been around in his head for a long long time.
- 5:03Speaker 2: We've all, you know, collaborated on making it. It's taken
- 5:06Speaker 2: us a lot longer to write this song and put
- 5:08Speaker 2: this song together than other songs because of I think,
- 5:10Speaker 2: because it is so out of the box for us.
- 5:14Speaker 2: We're just we're at the point now where you know,
- 5:16Speaker 2: it's it's The production is amazing, it sounds great, the
- 5:19Speaker 2: video is huge, a real cinematic storyline video, and we're
- 5:24Speaker 2: just going to put it out in the world and
- 5:25Speaker 2: then carry on with with rocking and doing what we
- 5:28Speaker 2: do best and hopefully people respond to it. This song
- 5:32Speaker 2: and the last single, Tamstone Blues, are not part of
- 5:35Speaker 2: the new album. They're kind of interim points. So Steve
- 5:37Speaker 2: and I, you know, we're only joined the band a
- 5:38Speaker 2: year and a half ago and the bending going for
- 5:41Speaker 2: a long time. So again, it was strategic not to
- 5:45Speaker 2: just dive into all working together on a new album.
- 5:48Speaker 2: It was let's let's explore this writing process, let's try
- 5:51Speaker 2: some things at jams and let's let's you know, let's
- 5:54Speaker 2: see where it takes this. These the two songs have
- 5:56Speaker 2: emerged out of that collaborative process again. We put them
- 6:00Speaker 2: up there and it's about us finding our feet in
- 6:02Speaker 2: the band, the guys jelling with us, our style, mixing
- 6:06Speaker 2: with you know, the established kind of snake bite style.
- 6:08Speaker 8: And originally it was initially originally it was like obviously,
- 6:12Speaker 8: having the two new guitars and two new members, it
- 6:15Speaker 8: was sort of show their flavors coming in. So it
- 6:17Speaker 8: wasn't initially bang just going to do a new, whole
- 6:19Speaker 8: new album. It was like, give a bit of a taste,
- 6:21Speaker 8: a bit of a show where their style is what
- 6:23Speaker 8: they want, what they're going to bring, what they're going
- 6:25Speaker 8: to do is different, the same and whatnot. So having
- 6:28Speaker 8: two different songs obviously shows and yeah, the re them different.
- 6:32Speaker 6: There's a bit of different flavor, give.
- 6:36Speaker 8: A bit of a taste before we delve into a
- 6:38Speaker 8: full album again.
- 6:39Speaker 9: Yeah, a.
- 6:41Speaker 3: Lot of those lines like say you guys started back
- 6:44Speaker 3: in twenty fourteen and you've had a few line up
- 6:45Speaker 3: changes since, so it's just lined up, you've got out
- 6:48Speaker 3: as it was settled.
- 6:48Speaker 6: Line up solid.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Yeah, Yeah, we're having a great time and we've just
- 6:54Speaker 2: got so much energy and vibe flowing. We've got heaps
- 6:58Speaker 2: of shows. We've got a bunch of local shows coming up.
- 7:02Speaker 2: Then we've got a full US twour coming up. That
- 7:04Speaker 2: there's a pile of new demos that we're sitting on
- 7:07Speaker 2: and we're crafting through at the moment for new albums.
- 7:10Speaker 2: So and yeah, the rock and roll train has left
- 7:14Speaker 2: the station, and yeah, it's not going back now.
- 7:18Speaker 3: This is a bit of a two back question, right
- 7:20Speaker 3: and you guys are one's introduced yourselves and tell us
- 7:22Speaker 3: what you bring take by whisky sound, and the older
- 7:25Speaker 3: guys some one used to tell us in return what
- 7:28Speaker 3: they do bring to your sound.
- 7:31Speaker 2: So okay, yeah, that's I'm probably I would call myself
- 7:36Speaker 2: a student of music. I've you know, since I was
- 7:39Speaker 2: a kid. I've just obsessed over music of all genres,
- 7:42Speaker 2: of all types. Obviously I've gravitated towards heavy music and
- 7:47Speaker 2: hard rock and rift based rock and metal and so
- 7:51Speaker 2: but I but I certainly wouldn't call myself like in
- 7:54Speaker 2: a box of any particular, specific, specific style. So I
- 7:58Speaker 2: like to think that I've had a kind of I
- 8:00Speaker 2: bring a broad landscape, and yet I know what the
- 8:05Speaker 2: ethos is of Snake by Whiskey. I've signed up to
- 8:08Speaker 2: the you know, the mission statement, and I but I
- 8:11Speaker 2: I bring that extra flavor of other other genres and
- 8:15Speaker 2: other parts of the musical realm that I enjoy, and
- 8:18Speaker 2: I listened to you know in my spare time and
- 8:20Speaker 2: kind of bring that into Snake Bite.
- 8:24Speaker 5: I would say Dan, in my opinion, it's a gratitude
- 8:28Speaker 5: to him. He plays very meticulous and very precise and
- 8:33Speaker 5: like very metal. I've got a bit of a swagger
- 8:37Speaker 5: and a bit more of a rhythm background, and I've
- 8:39Speaker 5: got a bit.
- 8:39Speaker 6: Of swing going.
- 8:40Speaker 5: So you combine the two of me and him partnership,
- 8:44Speaker 5: and then you get the combination that works perfect.
- 8:47Speaker 10: That's that's my my about your older guys, What do
- 8:51Speaker 10: you think they bring to the brand?
- 8:52Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't think that's.
- 8:56Speaker 8: Pretty much like Yeah, Dan, Yeah, called shit structured in
- 9:01Speaker 8: that sort of sense is to loose it all over
- 9:03Speaker 8: the shop.
- 9:06Speaker 6: There's I mean, your rock over here, you can bank on.
- 9:09Speaker 6: You've got your role over here.
- 9:10Speaker 2: So it's the perfect fucking mix.
- 9:12Speaker 6: Yeah, You've got your rock and roll. It's what you want.
- 9:14Speaker 6: You don't want to the same. You want a bit
- 9:16Speaker 6: of mix of it all. So it's working.
- 9:19Speaker 3: And I think the big thing for existing fans of
- 9:21Speaker 3: the band, like because the two guitars coming in, it's
- 9:23Speaker 3: a pretty big change in the band. But it's not
- 9:25Speaker 3: going to affect like by Whisky sound, It's still going
- 9:28Speaker 3: to be the same old band.
- 9:29Speaker 2: It's just it's it's the same band and they're the
- 9:32Speaker 2: same The songs that have existed up until now are
- 9:35Speaker 2: the same songs, just live. The productions got bigger and
- 9:39Speaker 2: the sounds got fuller, and the energy's got increased tenfold
- 9:44Speaker 2: because there's you know, there's.
- 9:45Speaker 8: We've never had a two guitarists going up and there,
- 9:48Speaker 8: so it's always going to have an extra build to it.
- 9:49Speaker 2: And yeah it's yeah, it's it's ultra high energy. It's
- 9:53Speaker 2: in your face. It's loud from the from the start
- 9:56Speaker 2: to the finish respect recording. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, there's a
- 10:01Speaker 2: lot a lot of the you know, the recordings have
- 10:04Speaker 2: rhythm tracks over you know, with lead over the top
- 10:06Speaker 2: and things like that that sort of we're missing in
- 10:07Speaker 2: the live show that are not that are not anymore.
- 10:09Speaker 2: So it's a big, big, full production, that's for sure.
- 10:12Speaker 2: And it's Yeah, it's heaps of.
- 10:14Speaker 3: Fun stars right, very nice, you got the front man
- 10:18Speaker 3: here have we finally making it?
- 10:21Speaker 10: Typically late entrance, it's a classy entrance standard.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Come and sit down and tell us what you think
- 10:28Speaker 2: about living. They tell us.
- 10:33Speaker 10: There you're going so you can answer that hitting questions.
- 10:38Speaker 3: And because he's got just been having fun, you know,
- 10:46Speaker 3: it's recently signed with the writing Australian labels Music as well.
- 10:50Speaker 10: So what sorts of things does that opened up with
- 10:52Speaker 10: the band?
- 10:55Speaker 11: Yeah, yeah, we've been with so we were with Payment
- 11:02Speaker 11: USA before in the US, and then we were slipped
- 11:05Speaker 11: at records in Europe and the whole problem was was
- 11:07Speaker 11: it was just too far away to get anything really done.
- 11:11Speaker 11: You're just like fucking screaming into the void, sending off
- 11:14Speaker 11: emails and not getting any responses and shit. So yeah,
- 11:18Speaker 11: we had to look around and we thought ex Music
- 11:21Speaker 11: are like a good fit for us because of the
- 11:23Speaker 11: roster they've got and that, and yeah, so we approached
- 11:26Speaker 11: him and he was real keen, and yeah it went
- 11:28Speaker 11: from there. We just wanted to be with somebody we
- 11:30Speaker 11: could be close, closer to an Australian label as well.
- 11:34Speaker 9: It makes sense for an Australian bands, so you know.
- 11:37Speaker 2: And just letting and giving us more breathing space to
- 11:40Speaker 2: focus on music and shows and the production of the band.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Let someone else sort of handle the pr and the
- 11:49Speaker 2: promotion and the kind of the marketing side of things
- 11:52Speaker 2: and all of the behind the scenes stuff because yeah,
- 11:54Speaker 2: obviously there's it's you know, it's a full time job
- 11:57Speaker 2: doing that. So it's good having having tim an X
- 12:00Speaker 2: Music there behind us to to make sure those bases
- 12:02Speaker 2: are covered. And you know, we're a few days out
- 12:04Speaker 2: on the first single with them, and we've got some
- 12:06Speaker 2: really really cool, exciting things in the in the can
- 12:08Speaker 2: happening so that he's arranged, so it's yeah, it's heading
- 12:12Speaker 2: in the right direction.
- 12:14Speaker 10: Cool.
- 12:14Speaker 3: Now, speaking of live shows, guys, like he's a one
- 12:17Speaker 3: band that I know of in Australia has got a
- 12:18Speaker 3: reputation for your live shows alone, like a cetifical live
- 12:23Speaker 3: joy from Snake Bite Whiskey and what people can expect.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Danger just real.
- 12:31Speaker 11: Yeah, it's wild, It's it's under how would you put it,
- 12:35Speaker 11: It's how rock and roll used to playing exactly.
- 12:37Speaker 9: It's like it teeters on that edge all the time of.
- 12:42Speaker 11: Disaster and control and yeah, it's pretty much controlled may Yeah.
- 12:47Speaker 2: It's it's a heap of fun for us to play,
- 12:49Speaker 2: and it's also a heap of fun for people.
- 12:51Speaker 9: To watch, and it's massively high energy.
- 12:53Speaker 11: I think we're I mean, there's a lot of great
- 12:56Speaker 11: live bands out there as well, but we're one of
- 12:59Speaker 11: the bat and to every time we play, we throw
- 13:02Speaker 11: we leave everything on the stage.
- 13:03Speaker 9: That's it.
- 13:04Speaker 11: It's all blood swept tears, beers, the whole fucking lot
- 13:08Speaker 11: just gets left out there and we just throw everything
- 13:11Speaker 11: in and sometimes, yeah, the wheels come off.
- 13:15Speaker 9: I've fallen off stage a few times, but you.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Know, but I've caught you.
- 13:21Speaker 10: You a trip, you might do a trip.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Our guitar tech has got really really good at cleaning
- 13:26Speaker 2: beer out of guitars. It's like one of the smary skills.
- 13:29Speaker 9: Need to keep us, That's it's what it is.
- 13:33Speaker 11: It's like fucking you know, if you don't give it all,
- 13:36Speaker 11: then you're doing people at the service.
- 13:38Speaker 9: So that people are paying money to watch a show.
- 13:40Speaker 11: If they want to listen to music, they'd sit at
- 13:42Speaker 11: home and listen to a CD or Spotify or some
- 13:44Speaker 11: shit like that. When it comes to you live, I
- 13:47Speaker 11: think we owe it to them to give them something
- 13:50Speaker 11: to go away and because live it's all about the
- 13:52Speaker 11: feeling and what they're feeling and the intensity and that
- 13:56Speaker 11: if it's not no perfect, that's not massively important to people.
- 14:00Speaker 9: They're not going to pick up on it. They're not
- 14:01Speaker 9: going to go home and go fuck me DC, fuck
- 14:04Speaker 9: that solo up. They're going to go home and go
- 14:07Speaker 9: I had a great fucking side man. That was a lot.
- 14:15Speaker 10: Shows coming up gus where people can check it out
- 14:17Speaker 10: for themselves.
- 14:18Speaker 2: Yeah, we've got a bunch. We're actually heading to Adelaide
- 14:20Speaker 2: on Friday, so we're playing Saturday night in the city
- 14:24Speaker 2: of Adelaide at Jive, which is a show to support
- 14:30Speaker 2: Adelaide legends Dirty Pagans. They've got a new album coming out,
- 14:32Speaker 2: so we're going to go down there and melts and
- 14:35Speaker 2: faces with those guys. And then we're playing The bright
- 14:39Speaker 2: Side in Brisbane on the seventeenth of July, which will
- 14:42Speaker 2: be as Thursday night, and so it'll be that midweek,
- 14:47Speaker 2: get people, get people out that break the break the
- 14:50Speaker 2: back of the week and get people to start their
- 14:52Speaker 2: weekend a day early. We're playing at Vinnie's Dive Bar
- 14:56Speaker 2: on the Gold Coast on the eighth of August, which
- 14:59Speaker 2: will be a show for my birthday. So I expect
- 15:02Speaker 2: maximum attendance and maximum energy and I want a cake also,
- 15:08Speaker 2: and then and then that, yeah, that's for us. We're
- 15:11Speaker 2: going We've got got a whole bunch of dates all
- 15:13Speaker 2: throughout the US, So we're heading over to play playing
- 15:18Speaker 2: We're playing Rocklahoma Festival with a bunch of amazing bands, Whiskey.
- 15:24Speaker 2: But then yeah, the show the first at the Whiskey
- 15:26Speaker 2: Go Go, which is yeah, just going to be amazing.
- 15:29Speaker 2: So yeah, and yeah, the shows in in Atlanta, are
- 15:33Speaker 2: in in Memphis, in Nashville, in Austin, in Houstontonio, a
- 15:38Speaker 2: whole bunch of Orleans, New Orleans. Yeah, we're pumped, absolutely, yeah,
- 15:45Speaker 2: if we can.
- 15:48Speaker 3: Guys, I got a new segment of started called photo Bombs,
- 15:51Speaker 3: So basically I found them photos of you guys show
- 15:53Speaker 3: on the internet and I want to know a little
- 15:55Speaker 3: bit more about.
- 15:55Speaker 10: It happens to actually with you guys.
- 16:01Speaker 2: Website as well.
- 16:04Speaker 10: It's would have gone down well in Japan.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that was that was early morning, wasn't it, Yes,
- 16:10Speaker 2: early morning, because we had and that's there's a lot
- 16:12Speaker 2: of that looks like breakfast, break breakfast, he was.
- 16:19Speaker 6: It was been decent Japanese temple there and you had
- 16:24Speaker 6: to be in a paper bag.
- 16:28Speaker 2: How do you go with.
- 16:31Speaker 10: How do you go with the saki over there?
- 16:33Speaker 6: Ah?
- 16:34Speaker 9: Yeah, eight dollar fucking bottles of Japanese whiskey with.
- 16:41Speaker 10: Beautiful players with that? How could the bands there too?
- 16:44Speaker 10: Like I reckon with bands I've been over there with.
- 16:45Speaker 3: I played with about one hundred and twenty support bands
- 16:47Speaker 3: over the years, and one hundred and channel of my
- 16:50Speaker 3: pay go and see again there.
- 16:53Speaker 6: Really we line up there too, So like unique, there
- 16:58Speaker 6: was DJs to like.
- 17:03Speaker 5: Crash metal, the punk. It was crazy, man, but it
- 17:07Speaker 5: all fitted and everyone got in there.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Everyone respected each other, and it was all about the music,
- 17:13Speaker 2: the efficiencies of sound check and loaded.
