- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to the Armchair GM Sports Network.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Welcome to the first playoff edition of the Ohl and
- 1:03Speaker 2: sixty Podcast with Colin Ward. I'm Reice Domini BC is
- 1:07Speaker 2: with us as well, with the mic turned on in
- 1:09Speaker 2: case he has anything to add, which he will throughout
- 1:13Speaker 2: this throughout this episode, whether you're watching us on the
- 1:16Speaker 2: Armchair GM Sports Networks YouTube page, whether you're listening to
- 1:19Speaker 2: us on your favorite podcast platform, thank you for tuning in.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Hope you enjoyed the regular season because it kind of
- 1:26Speaker 2: flew by, so Jen, you know, as much as we
- 1:30Speaker 2: enjoy the full grind of sixty eight games, this is
- 1:33Speaker 2: still our favorite time of the year. Might be one
- 1:35Speaker 2: of our favorite episodes to record all year. It's up
- 1:37Speaker 2: there anyways, Trade Dadline Draft, Yeah, probably top three, those
- 1:43Speaker 2: three and then the playoff playoff show. I would I
- 1:45Speaker 2: would say that's probably top three there. Bye of the year, yeah,
- 1:51Speaker 2: true true, yeah, top four. Yeah, that makes sense. But
- 1:56Speaker 2: we've got a we've got a jam pack show. This
- 1:58Speaker 2: one is longer as always every single year we go
- 2:00Speaker 2: over sixty minutes. Shout out to Mike Farrewell, what a
- 2:03Speaker 2: stud beauty voice of the Kitchen Rangers. This will be
- 2:07Speaker 2: longer than sixty minutes, I can tell you that. But yeah,
- 2:12Speaker 2: it was just like normal. We we go back to
- 2:16Speaker 2: our playoff format. It's not gonna be every Monday that
- 2:18Speaker 2: or every Tuesday, I should say every Monday recording, but
- 2:21Speaker 2: every Tuesday release. It'll be after every round. So so
- 2:24Speaker 2: we will talk for ninety minutes here. Round one will
- 2:27Speaker 2: carry out, then we will chat about Round one preview,
- 2:31Speaker 2: Round number two and so on and so forth. So
- 2:34Speaker 2: here's what the lineup is for for this week's show.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Ohl headlines not a ton to get to, but more
- 2:40Speaker 2: end of season awards, milestones, stuff like that, you know.
- 2:46Speaker 2: And then some news dropped last week that nineteen year
- 2:50Speaker 2: olds are headed to the AHL if they're first rounders.
- 2:53Speaker 2: We're gonna have a conversation about that. That'll be really interesting.
- 2:58Speaker 2: I think that might be the fun on the shit
- 3:00Speaker 2: O to be honest with you. UH, Draft Lottery simulation.
- 3:04Speaker 2: This will be after our our commercial break, So draft
- 3:07Speaker 2: Lottery simulation the final one before we before the Draft
- 3:11Speaker 2: lottery takes place, which we've got some news on for
- 3:15Speaker 2: you as well. And then we look ahead to round one. UH,
- 3:17Speaker 2: the eight matchups for in the West, for in the
- 3:20Speaker 2: East Before that, we're gonna touch on the four teams
- 3:22Speaker 2: that missed the playoffs and and kind of run through
- 3:25Speaker 2: what we would like to see from them in the
- 3:27Speaker 2: off season and maybe what some of their fans would
- 3:29Speaker 2: like to see from them in the off season. So,
- 3:33Speaker 2: without further ado, let's let's get to it and and
- 3:36Speaker 2: let's kick things off with Eastern Rye. And it feels
- 3:39Speaker 2: like we've uh talked about Eastern Rye a number of
- 3:42Speaker 2: times throughout this season. Worth it, Like, I mean, when
- 3:46Speaker 2: when you look at goaltenders in the ohl and and
- 3:49Speaker 2: not necessarily that Eastern Rye has had a bounce back season,
- 3:53Speaker 2: it's more than Peterborough Pets have had to bounce back season.
- 3:55Speaker 2: I think Eastern Rye we just we just saw kind
- 3:59Speaker 2: of the result of a poor blue line, just not
- 4:03Speaker 2: a good team overall. And unfortunately, it doesn't make a
- 4:06Speaker 2: difference what goalies in the in the net, They're probably
- 4:09Speaker 2: gonna get shelled more times than not. But I would
- 4:12Speaker 2: say Eastern Rye is a big contributor as to why
- 4:15Speaker 2: the Peterborough Pets got homice advantage in Round one and
- 4:18Speaker 2: why they finished as the four seed when a lot
- 4:20Speaker 2: of people, myself included had them from seventh eighth potentially sixth.
- 4:27Speaker 2: So again Eastern Rye breaking more records for the Peterborough Pets.
- 4:31Speaker 3: No, absolutely, I mean Eastern Rye is great for them.
- 4:34Speaker 3: Thirty eight wins on the year, that's the record. I
- 4:37Speaker 3: mean incredible. I mean even last year. You look back
- 4:39Speaker 3: to last year where the peach were in the standings,
- 4:40Speaker 3: he still went ten to fourteen and two and one.
- 4:43Speaker 3: I mean on the worst team in the league. To
- 4:44Speaker 3: have a nine to two, say percentage is unbelievable. So
- 4:49Speaker 3: Eastern ries always kept them in games. Eastern Rye, I
- 4:51Speaker 3: mean any thinking about the Peterborough Pets in that one
- 4:54Speaker 3: game with the Erie Otters. And he's an incredible goaltender.
- 4:58Speaker 3: He's competitive, not the i mean six foot not the
- 5:02Speaker 3: biggest goaltenders nowadays, but he's competitive as heck. He's gonna
- 5:05Speaker 3: he's gonna work his butt off. You're not gonna go
- 5:08Speaker 3: in there and put up a five spot against Easton
- 5:11Speaker 3: Rye because he doesn't give up five goals in the
- 5:13Speaker 3: game very often. He's very consistent in that way too.
- 5:16Speaker 3: I've really enjoyed his development. It reminds me a lot
- 5:18Speaker 3: of what Michael Simpson was like coming up through the
- 5:20Speaker 3: Peterborough ranks as well. And now that you're in your
- 5:23Speaker 3: prime of year career here in the Antreil Hockey League
- 5:25Speaker 3: and you look at the effectiveness on his career, I
- 5:27Speaker 3: mean he's been great.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Absolutely. Uh Next up breaking records. Jacobrien from the Branford
- 5:35Speaker 2: Bulldogs is the all time leading scorer in Brantford Bulldog's history.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Was able to help the help the Bulldogs secure the
- 5:43Speaker 2: Hamilton Spectator Trophy with a six or five win over
- 5:47Speaker 2: the North Bay Battalion. But he passes Patrick Thomas in
- 5:52Speaker 2: way less games. And that's no disrespect to to Patrick
- 5:55Speaker 2: Thomas whatsoever. He was such a phenomenal player, such a
- 5:58Speaker 2: great guy to talk to off the ice. But Jacobrien
- 6:02Speaker 2: is just a talent that doesn't come around very often.
- 6:04Speaker 2: And the Bulldogs have had their fair share of stars
- 6:09Speaker 2: go on to the to the next level. You think
- 6:11Speaker 2: of mc tavish, albeit he was only there for half
- 6:13Speaker 2: a season. Nick lardis scoring seventy goals and now he
- 6:18Speaker 2: is fully part of the Blackhawks plan for next season
- 6:22Speaker 2: out of training camp. But jac O'Brien two hundred and
- 6:26Speaker 2: fifty five career points, seventy three of those are goals,
- 6:28Speaker 2: one hundred and eighty two of those are assists. That's
- 6:31Speaker 2: just in one hundred and eighty games. That is I
- 6:34Speaker 2: think it's very, very impressive.
- 6:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I spoke with Jake and his father Dan after
- 6:40Speaker 3: the game on Friday. There'll be more on the dodcast
- 6:42Speaker 3: this week for those Bulldog fans wondering. But incredible talent.
- 6:46Speaker 3: I mean it's been really it's been a pleasure to
- 6:49Speaker 3: be able to cover him for the last three seasons
- 6:51Speaker 3: in the Entrail Hockey League. I mean he's been great.
- 6:54Speaker 3: He leads by example on the ice so has also
- 6:56Speaker 3: he shared a cool story Patrick Thomas reaching out to
- 6:58Speaker 3: him after the game. So I sent the text to
- 7:00Speaker 3: Patrick Thomas, Hey, how's it going. That's cool to send
- 7:03Speaker 3: the message to Jake and he goes automatic, You've been
- 7:06Speaker 3: watching the Bulldogs closely, so that's kind of cool from
- 7:08Speaker 3: former captain of last year Patrick Thomas. But Jake O'Brien,
- 7:11Speaker 3: I mean an incredible talent. He probably gets a hundred points.
- 7:14Speaker 3: I mean he's got ninety three points and fifty three
- 7:16Speaker 3: games if he doesn't miss the world around the World
- 7:18Speaker 3: junior time. He unfortunately had that injury that he had
- 7:21Speaker 3: around rate when he got back around the Christmas break.
- 7:25Speaker 3: If he doesn't miss that time, He's got a hundred
- 7:27Speaker 3: points easily this year in the Antario Hockey League. And
- 7:29Speaker 3: it's I don't even think it's close, Jake. All he's
- 7:32Speaker 3: got to do is get a little bit more and thicker.
- 7:33Speaker 3: A lot of time on the ice this year, but
- 7:35Speaker 3: if he gets a little bit more thicker, he's gonna
- 7:37Speaker 3: be a player. I mean, he's so smart. I mean
- 7:39Speaker 3: to see the coach is what they've voted about him.
- 7:43Speaker 3: That's a compliment to his game, without a without a doubt.
- 7:46Speaker 3: I mean, he's one of the smartest players in the
- 7:47Speaker 3: Ntail Hockey League. And no surprise, coach was voted on
- 7:50Speaker 3: that as well. Yeah, yeah, no kidding.
- 7:53Speaker 2: We're gonna stick with the Branford Bulldogs because the leading
- 7:55Speaker 2: goal scorer this season from Branford. And you talk about out, well,
- 8:00Speaker 2: what if O'Brien didn't miss the time to be at
- 8:02Speaker 2: World Junior camp and what what his uh what his
- 8:05Speaker 2: point total could have looked like. Merk van Aker, albeit
- 8:08Speaker 2: it was a late er addition, I'm filling in due
- 8:11Speaker 2: to a due to an injury, but merk van Acker
- 8:14Speaker 2: finishes the regular season with forty seven goals. That leads
- 8:17Speaker 2: the league, just edging out Jack Pridham who finished with
- 8:20Speaker 2: forty six. And then a little bit of a drop
- 8:23Speaker 2: off to to number three, four and five with Walton
- 8:25Speaker 2: Edwards and Patterson who each got forty. But but you
- 8:29Speaker 2: look at Merrick van Acker and and again he didn't
- 8:31Speaker 2: miss a ton of time because of World Junior Camp.
- 8:33Speaker 2: There were some you know, bumps and bruises throughout the
- 8:36Speaker 2: season for America as well. You see that as sixty
- 8:39Speaker 2: games this season. If that's at sixty three games, let's
- 8:44Speaker 2: say that's all three more goals from Mark van Acker
- 8:48Speaker 2: and he gets one. Yeah, no case, don't blame them,
- 8:53Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, why not last kick at the cannon, try
- 8:56Speaker 2: and get a hatie and get to fifty again. You
- 8:59Speaker 2: may get sixty three games played. He probably gets there,
- 9:02Speaker 2: Yeah for sure, no, without a doubt.
- 9:04Speaker 3: I mean, and he's from the great city of the
- 9:05Speaker 3: Del High, Ontario as well, so that that has something
- 9:09Speaker 3: to do with it. The first almost fifty goal scorer
- 9:11Speaker 3: from the delha Tera. That have been pretty cool. But
- 9:14Speaker 3: Marricks his.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Picture going up in the in the arena, by the way,
- 9:18Speaker 2: it feels like it should be up there.
- 9:20Speaker 3: Yeah, it should be in the Norfolk Hall of Fame
- 9:22Speaker 3: for sure. Mark great talent. I mean you look at
- 9:25Speaker 3: the goal scoring ability around the net. He's been great
- 9:30Speaker 3: for the Bulldogs this year. And I mean he's been
- 9:32Speaker 3: so successful around the net. He uses that body, used
- 9:34Speaker 3: that frame well around the net and gets some good
- 9:36Speaker 3: positioning a lot. And that's how you can be talented,
- 9:39Speaker 3: get those goals right. So it's cool. It's cool to
- 9:41Speaker 3: see the development of American actor, how much he's changed.
- 9:43Speaker 3: He's already he's always showed spurts, but this year also
- 9:47Speaker 3: the big thing is you didn't have to go through
- 9:48Speaker 3: a rehab, getting getting a full getting a full season,
- 9:52Speaker 3: a full training camp, a normal offseason is is huge.
- 9:57Speaker 3: The only thing is for those on YouTube that are
- 9:58Speaker 3: watching right now, Mark, you might want to pop a
- 10:01Speaker 3: smile in that profile picture. That the stare. It looks
- 10:03Speaker 3: like it's coming right through. I feel like I gotta move,
- 10:06Speaker 3: uh that stare. I mean, wow, they caught him. Yeah,
- 10:10Speaker 3: don't blink. I feel like it's like, what's going on.
- 10:13Speaker 3: I gotta say something good? Uh, I gotta say something
- 10:15Speaker 3: good about him because of the He's gonna.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Come through the screen. And attack you.
- 10:19Speaker 3: Yeah, that looks something.
- 10:23Speaker 2: By the way, Colin Ward has already started the fun
- 10:26Speaker 2: to get the Merrick van Acker sign underneath the Dell
- 10:29Speaker 2: High sign, much like Adam Henry has in the town
- 10:33Speaker 2: of Burford. They're not a city, They're a town of Burford.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Apparently Dell High is a city.
- 10:39Speaker 3: Right, we got more stop lights.
- 10:40Speaker 2: We're a lot bigger than Murford. No offense to that's sure.
- 10:43Speaker 2: You are you are? Yeah you are? Yeah?
- 10:47Speaker 1: Yeah right?
- 10:48Speaker 2: But uh, points leader this year somebody that was on
- 10:53Speaker 2: nobody's radar to lead this at the beginning of the year.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Now we knew who he was. We're not gonna say that,
- 11:00Speaker 2: oh there was no shot anybody saw him doing this.
- 11:02Speaker 2: But I would say everyone was like, oh, really Nikita Klepov,
- 11:07Speaker 2: And yeah, Nikita Klepoff ninety seven points this season, thirty
- 11:11Speaker 2: seven goals, sixty sixty assists for an eighth place team,
- 11:15Speaker 2: and you lead the league in scoring. I feel like
- 11:17Speaker 2: I've used this word plenty enough and we're what ten
- 11:21Speaker 2: minutes into the show, But like that, that's impressive, Like
- 11:26Speaker 2: that is how how did he do that? Call?
- 11:30Speaker 3: I you know, his prospects game was really his coming
- 11:33Speaker 3: out party. I know they had a lot of success
- 11:36Speaker 3: him in a Barra bad off. Throughout the season, they
- 11:39Speaker 3: kind of showed spurts of the of the talent. But
- 11:42Speaker 3: the Prospects game in Peterborough I think was Nikita Kleppoff's
- 11:46Speaker 3: coming out party for him. I mean, ninety seven points
- 11:48Speaker 3: on the season, so close to one hundred. That one
- 11:51Speaker 3: game you think that he misses, right, does he get
- 11:52Speaker 3: it if he lays a fall sixty eight? But the
- 11:55Speaker 3: biggest talent is about clapoff and the one thing that
- 11:58Speaker 3: really stands out to me. And for those on you YouTube,
- 12:00Speaker 3: they can see that right now on the screen. But
- 12:02Speaker 3: for those not plus nine on the season on an
- 12:05Speaker 3: eighth on a on an eighth ranked team in the
- 12:07Speaker 3: conference is tough to do. That's that's impressive to be
- 12:11Speaker 3: a positive player like that. Obviously you have almost one
- 12:13Speaker 3: hundred points, that's gonna happen naturally, you would hope, But
- 12:16Speaker 3: plus nine for a eighth ranked team, I mean, I
- 12:19Speaker 3: I think this playoff series is gonna be a lot
- 12:21Speaker 3: closer to than what people think between the Spirit and
- 12:24Speaker 3: the Rangers, just off, clipoff, bearra Banoff, I mean, this
- 12:27Speaker 3: is really gonna be the clipoff show to see. Hey,
- 12:31Speaker 3: the real season starts now on the postseason, right, so
- 12:35Speaker 3: what kind of are they to fluke or what are they? Right?
- 12:38Speaker 3: So and not say they are I mean, I mean
- 12:40Speaker 3: I voted them. I think for my Red Tilson before
- 12:43Speaker 3: dam Ol Riley caught fire. But I think that Niki
- 12:46Speaker 3: cup Off with the way he's improved throughout the season
- 12:49Speaker 3: is the beauty of the HL and the beauty of
- 12:51Speaker 3: the new landscape of the league.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Absolutely, you mentioned it a plus nine for a second
- 12:58Speaker 2: of Spirit team that in the goal wrenchal was a
- 13:01Speaker 2: minus sixty four. They scored two hundred and twenty eight,
- 13:05Speaker 2: they allowed two hundred and ninety two. So yeah, that'll
- 13:09Speaker 2: be that'll be interesting. You're right that that's kind of
- 13:11Speaker 2: an X factor for Sagan. We're talking about Klipov at
- 13:14Speaker 2: ninety seven points leading the league, barre Banov just six
- 13:17Speaker 2: behind it ninety one. So that's two Spirit in the
- 13:20Speaker 2: top five in ohl in ohl points this season. So
- 13:25Speaker 2: the retention, if it's there, watch out for sagon on
- 13:29Speaker 2: next year if they can, if they can find a
- 13:30Speaker 2: way to get around them, so or build around them,
- 13:33Speaker 2: I should say to the goaltenders, Colin Ward's favorite category, Bobby,
- 13:38Speaker 2: are going to go to the Nation's capital for the
- 13:41Speaker 2: next two. Next two awards the goals against Average Champion
- 13:46Speaker 2: or winner. I'm not sure what the best word for
- 13:49Speaker 2: that is. Mm got this year best stopper of pucks.
- 13:55Speaker 1: It's actually w Dentt Moore Trophy.
- 13:57Speaker 2: It is. Yes, I always love I want to win.
- 14:00Speaker 3: I wish I could have win won the Dentty.
- 14:03Speaker 2: That fits Colin Ward, the Dentty the Danty.
- 14:06Speaker 3: Oh yeah, Ward.
- 14:10Speaker 2: But feder Off at two oh seven goals against average
- 14:14Speaker 2: edged out Joey Costanzo had a two to sixteen show
- 14:16Speaker 2: guest not a big deal. But but feder Off coming
- 14:19Speaker 2: in as a seventeen year old again Ottawa a team
- 14:22Speaker 2: that I had missing the playoffs this season, and they
- 14:25Speaker 2: were right at the top pretty well the entire way
- 14:27Speaker 2: through the whole campaign. And this young man was a
- 14:30Speaker 2: was a big reason for it. And and I think
- 14:33Speaker 2: an NHL club is going to be very lucky to
- 14:35Speaker 2: take him in this June's draft.
- 14:36Speaker 3: Oh, without a doubt. I mean, he got a triple
- 14:38Speaker 3: crown this year, say percentage goals against and he had
- 14:41Speaker 3: shutouts at six That's pretty cool. I'm gonna get a
- 14:44Speaker 3: triple crown for the goal centers this year, that's neat.
- 14:47Speaker 3: I mean, I think Righter feder Off, he's the reason
- 14:49Speaker 3: why they're there. I mean, major reason why the Autawa
- 14:51Speaker 3: sixty seven has had the success they did. Our seventeen
- 14:54Speaker 3: year old goaltender like that going having twenty nine wins.
- 14:57Speaker 3: That's tough to do. And I mean I think it's
- 14:59Speaker 3: it's for the work ethic, right, Like I know, Brandon
- 15:02Speaker 3: you meant, I know, you interviewed him about a month
- 15:05Speaker 3: a couple of weeks ago now with the sixty sevens
- 15:07Speaker 3: and he mentioned Mark Andre Fleury and you see a
- 15:11Speaker 3: lot of that in his game. He's very technical. He's
- 15:13Speaker 3: not the biggest guys for goaltenders. As I said about
- 15:16Speaker 3: Eastern Rye, six foot is tall, but it's not tall
- 15:19Speaker 3: for goaltenders nowadays. And I mean he's so technically sound.
- 15:23Speaker 3: And I mean, you look around the league this year.
- 15:24Speaker 3: What's up with six foot goaltenders being lights out this year?
- 15:28Speaker 3: Fakari Rye fetter Off, I mean, maybe you don't have
- 15:32Speaker 3: to be six foot seven to be a heck of
- 15:34Speaker 3: a goaltender now, and you look around the league. I
- 15:36Speaker 3: mean those three have been studs this year around the
- 15:38Speaker 3: league and feeder Off. I mean, every given night he
- 15:40Speaker 3: gives sixty sevens a chance, that's all you can ask.
- 15:44Speaker 2: And sticking with the with the storyline, it they combined
- 15:48Speaker 2: for the least amount of goals allowed Jaden Nelson right
- 15:51Speaker 2: there too, with with with Ryder feder Off. Nelson's goals
- 15:55Speaker 2: against average is that two thirty three. A lot of
- 15:59Speaker 2: people I thought, you know, probably thought he was the
- 16:02Speaker 2: number one this year Nelson, right a seventeen year old
- 16:04Speaker 2: feder Off. You're thinking, Okay, he's gonna come in. He's
- 16:06Speaker 2: gonna be seventeen year old, kind of get his feet
- 16:09Speaker 2: wet in the Ontario Hockey League, kind of see what
- 16:11Speaker 2: it's about and whether it's college immediately after, whether he
- 16:14Speaker 2: just pushes it back a year and sticks it out
- 16:16Speaker 2: in the l one more year. You know, who knows
- 16:18Speaker 2: what the case would be. And Nelson would kind of
- 16:20Speaker 2: take the reins this year in sort of a transition
- 16:23Speaker 2: season for the sixty sevens. But I think that you know,
- 16:27Speaker 2: in the combination of feder Off and then Nelson with
- 16:31Speaker 2: the years that he's put in in the Ontario Hockey League,
- 16:33Speaker 2: they fed off each other really well. And by years.
- 16:36Speaker 2: I mean essentially two plus for Nelson. Twenty three, twenty
- 16:41Speaker 2: four he played two games. Twenty four to twenty five
- 16:44Speaker 2: he's at thirty three and then twenty nine this season.
- 16:47Speaker 2: In twenty five and twenty six, they played off each
- 16:50Speaker 2: other really well, and we saw stretches wrote the year
- 16:52Speaker 2: where you know, Dave Cameron would ride Rider for a
- 16:56Speaker 2: number of games, and then he'd ride Jaden for a
- 16:58Speaker 2: number of games. All then you know there'd be a
- 17:00Speaker 2: week or two where it'd be back and forth, back
- 17:02Speaker 2: and forth, and nobody really got a got a long
- 17:05Speaker 2: leash to to kind of run with it. So I
- 17:09Speaker 2: think I feel safe in saying that federal off as
- 17:11Speaker 2: you're starting goaltender heading into the postseason, that first round
- 17:14Speaker 2: matchup against Kingston. But I think for Dave Cameron, he's
- 17:17Speaker 2: got a nice luxury like a few coaches doing the
- 17:19Speaker 2: Ontario Hockey League, where if it's federal off for Nelson,
- 17:22Speaker 2: you feel pretty comfortable in whatever game you're in.
- 17:24Speaker 3: Yeah, without a doubt. I mean it's underrated award, right,
- 17:26Speaker 3: it's a team award to defend the defense in front
- 17:29Speaker 3: as well. I think that it speaks to itself, right
- 17:32Speaker 3: when you look at the goals against average, especially in
- 17:35Speaker 3: the Entrail Hockey, and you see Jade and Nelson right
- 17:36Speaker 3: now finishing in third in the goals against average in
- 17:40Speaker 3: the all of the OHL. So you got two sixty
- 17:42Speaker 3: sevens in the top three. I mean, that's impressive, and
- 17:44Speaker 3: I mean that's that's more of an individual stat as well,
- 17:47Speaker 3: that contributes to the team, and it just speaks to itself.
- 17:50Speaker 3: How absolutely deserving these this team is for the for
- 17:53Speaker 3: the award. I mean they've been great, and I mean,
- 17:55Speaker 3: like you mentioned, rest every single given night, like you
- 17:58Speaker 3: saw stretches where Nelson would play game, feder Off will
- 18:00Speaker 3: play a game multiple games in a row, and it
- 18:03Speaker 3: didn't matter what they did. They were still getting points
- 18:05Speaker 3: in the standings. We were still winning those games. They
- 18:07Speaker 3: were competitive in the games, and that speaks for itself.
- 18:10Speaker 3: And anytime you get those games and you don't give
- 18:12Speaker 3: a it's nice when you don't give a game away
- 18:14Speaker 3: with a backup goaltender, a quote unquote backup goaltender.
- 18:17Speaker 2: That's huge.
- 18:18Speaker 3: And the Duckids shot right, And I think that they've
- 18:20Speaker 3: been great, this duo, this was no doubt, it's one
- 18:22Speaker 3: of the best tandems in the league.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Yeah, some of those extra numbers that I wanted to
- 18:26Speaker 2: point out for Nelson too, and completely different teams in
- 18:30Speaker 2: front of him a year year after year like last
- 18:32Speaker 2: year compared to this week. Yeah, sorry, go ahead, Mordy.
- 18:36Speaker 3: No, we got our twitter pool. Remember at the being
- 18:38Speaker 3: of the year about November, we did a Twitter pool
- 18:41Speaker 3: on Ottawa's goaltending, our London's goaltending for top five in
- 18:45Speaker 3: the league. And now we got our answer for the
- 18:47Speaker 3: top five. Maybe one we got our answer. It was
- 18:50Speaker 3: a Medvedev in a Gatto and then you had feder
- 18:53Speaker 3: Off Nelson what duo was better?
- 18:55Speaker 2: And I guess we got our answer in the sixty
- 18:57Speaker 2: sevens Yep. Yeah, those numbers you look at and like
- 19:01Speaker 2: I said, this kind of has to do with the
- 19:03Speaker 2: team that was in front of him as well. But
- 19:05Speaker 2: shots against last year four more games played last year,
- 19:09Speaker 2: so not a significant number, but that's still an extra
- 19:14Speaker 2: two hundred and forty minutes there we go. Look at
- 19:17Speaker 2: that math. But yeah, obviously that that's kind of you know,
- 19:23Speaker 2: give or take a few minutes depending on certain situations.
- 19:26Speaker 2: But he saw Oney twenty seven shots last year in
- 19:29Speaker 2: thirty three games and allowed one hundred and fourteen goals
- 19:34Speaker 2: this year, and this is kind of where the team
- 19:35Speaker 2: in front of him comes into play. In the twenty
- 19:38Speaker 2: nine games, he saw only seven hundred and sixty two shots.
- 19:42Speaker 3: So that is a big difference.
- 19:44Speaker 2: What two fifty to three hundred shots less. Yeah, that's
- 19:48Speaker 2: that's a big enough difference. That's more than fifty shots.
- 19:50Speaker 3: You see those numbers now, yeah, now you're not surprising.
- 19:52Speaker 3: You see those numbers going, Yeah, get better when you
- 19:56Speaker 3: give up plus shots to a team award.
- 19:58Speaker 2: And and sixty five goals against on seven and sixty two.
- 20:01Speaker 2: So that's six hundred and ninety seven save saves compared
- 20:04Speaker 2: to nine thirteen the previous year. Again, says a lot
- 20:07Speaker 2: about the blue line and the development of the sixty
- 20:09Speaker 2: sevens in front of him, But also I think that
- 20:11Speaker 2: says a lot about him and and that year over
- 20:14Speaker 2: year difference for for Nelson and net.
- 20:17Speaker 3: Well, without a doubt it does. I mean, without a doubt,
- 20:19Speaker 3: it's nice to see the trend, right, to see guys
- 20:21Speaker 3: get better, That's what that's the beauty of the league.
- 20:23Speaker 3: To see the development of players as individuals as well.
- 20:26Speaker 3: And I mean no doubt he's gotten better throughout his
- 20:28Speaker 3: LHL career.
- 20:31Speaker 2: All right, uh we we'll go over a couple of
- 20:34Speaker 2: team awards here. We're not gonna spend too much time
- 20:37Speaker 2: on it. These teams are in the playoffs, so we're
- 20:39Speaker 2: obviously gonna look at them as as the show goes on.
- 20:43Speaker 2: But we already mentioned it. Hamilton Bowlder or branfret.
- 20:47Speaker 1: Nice Jo, you're there's your first pal.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Woh, oh my god.
- 20:54Speaker 3: Well he saw the spectator. You saw it in an
- 20:56Speaker 3: exact left. Guys, you saw the Hamilton Spectator and all right, all.
- 21:02Speaker 2: Right, let's try this again. Cut reboot. All right, here
- 21:05Speaker 2: we go. Hamilton Spectator Trophy champions are the Brantford Bulldogs.
- 21:11Speaker 2: They've been there, this is their third year. That is embarrassing.
- 21:14Speaker 2: That should not be an issue. I'll take that. Fine,
- 21:18Speaker 2: I'll take that fine.
- 21:20Speaker 3: That's the record.
- 21:21Speaker 2: I deserve it. Record off the wreck. We're on the record.
- 21:25Speaker 2: What do you mean?
- 21:26Speaker 3: I'm joking with the listeners?
- 21:29Speaker 1: It is ham So that's probably what.
- 21:32Speaker 2: Yeah, right, that's what I thought. Yeah, okay, all right,
- 21:35Speaker 2: thanks guys. Thanks, you can still find me if you want,
- 21:37Speaker 2: because that's embarrassing year three. But anyways, yes, Hamilton Spectator
- 21:43Speaker 2: Trophy the Branford Bulldogs second time in franchise history, of course,
- 21:46Speaker 2: winning it in twenty twenty two in Hamilton and getting
- 21:50Speaker 2: home ice throughout throughout the entire playoffs, including a game
- 21:54Speaker 2: seven win on home ice to capture the Jay, Ross
- 21:57Speaker 2: And and Colin before we got to the division winner
- 22:00Speaker 2: and who's taking home that hard where. Uh, there was
- 22:03Speaker 2: a really good quote that you got from from Jmickee
- 22:06Speaker 2: about how important it is to win the Spectator and
- 22:10Speaker 2: what advantage it does give you, especially, you know, especially
- 22:13Speaker 2: in the Ohl Championship series. Obviously, if you win the East,
- 22:17Speaker 2: you win the West, and the regular season you've got
- 22:18Speaker 2: home ice throughout the first three rounds. But then it's
- 22:21Speaker 2: up to that final round of where if you get
- 22:23Speaker 2: that Spectator and you've got a game seven on whole ice,
- 22:26Speaker 2: that makes a huge difference. Uh. Yeah, you know in
- 22:29Speaker 2: that matchup. And you think of the difference in twenty
- 22:31Speaker 2: twenty two between First Ontario Center and the WFCU Center
- 22:35Speaker 2: in terms of noise, It really wasn't that different. Both
- 22:37Speaker 2: buildings were loud, but try to go got up a
- 22:40Speaker 2: good point about if winsor would have won the Spectator
- 22:43Speaker 2: Trophy that year.
- 22:44Speaker 3: Yeah, no, exactly, like you said, Yeah, twenty twenty two.
- 22:47Speaker 3: I had a great chat with the Jamie Key post game.
- 22:49Speaker 3: You'll hear that on the dodcast this week as well
- 22:52Speaker 3: for your Bulldog fans, but most of the mostly obviously. Yeah,
- 22:55Speaker 3: like you mentioned twenty twenty two, as things have gotten
- 22:58Speaker 3: down to the wire right now, you think about the
- 23:00Speaker 3: two teams right now in the West and in the east.
- 23:02Speaker 3: You look at Branford and you look at Kitchener in
- 23:04Speaker 3: the west, right, and you look at those two teams
- 23:06Speaker 3: and you're thinking, well, do you really want to go
- 23:08Speaker 3: to the odd to play a Game seven? Right? You'd
- 23:10Speaker 3: rather have that at home ice you control, at least
- 23:13Speaker 3: you control the environment in that aspect right now, and
- 23:17Speaker 3: I think that's a huge, huge advantage for the Bulldogs
- 23:20Speaker 3: to have every possible Game seven throughout this playoff run
- 23:24Speaker 3: at home. You essentially control your own destiny in game
- 23:26Speaker 3: sevens for that matter. And like you meant, like you
- 23:30Speaker 3: mentioned twenty twenty two, you think about that. I remember
- 23:33Speaker 3: Game six throughout that series, how loud that was in Windsor, right,
- 23:37Speaker 3: and if that Game seven in Hamilton, fourteen thousand fans
- 23:41Speaker 3: I remember lined up at four o'clock the fans to
- 23:43Speaker 3: get in the door that was right on to see that,
- 23:46Speaker 3: and I mean, I if that doesn't happen, if it's
- 23:49Speaker 3: on the flip side, do are the BULLDOGSHL champions that year?
- 23:53Speaker 3: I don't know. And that's why you leave no questioning,
- 23:55Speaker 3: you leave no doubt in that matter, in that aspect
- 24:00Speaker 3: when you get the Hamilton spectator. I think that was
- 24:02Speaker 3: why the Bulldogs really pushed for that and why they
- 24:04Speaker 3: played their players on Friday night as well.
- 24:07Speaker 2: Still playing for things absolutely, yeah, no kidding, and home
- 24:11Speaker 2: regular season home finale too. You want to you want
- 24:13Speaker 2: to show up for the home fans doing a nice
- 24:15Speaker 2: taste going into the into the playoffs, especially because it's
- 24:19Speaker 2: a little bit of a further walk because of a
- 24:21Speaker 2: construction zone that the parking lot has turned into. Colin
- 24:24Speaker 2: Ward not a fan. Yeah, it's actually early enough, it's
- 24:28Speaker 2: probably all right. But if you have the construction workers
- 24:32Speaker 2: thirty cars, probably that's it. That's that's nothing.
- 24:36Speaker 3: Yeah, there's only three spots per row right now, like
- 24:40Speaker 3: in the main part. It's it's thin, it's very thin.
- 24:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:45Speaker 3: I don't know what the plan is, but I don't
- 24:48Speaker 3: think there's gonna be a car this year fronta Civic
- 24:50Speaker 3: Center because there's not a lot of room, uh to
- 24:54Speaker 3: work with right now with parking, but I know the
- 24:57Speaker 3: team's working on that. For Bulldog fans wondering, I know
- 25:00Speaker 3: the teams working on that.
- 25:01Speaker 2: Who knows we might get We might get the traffic
- 25:03Speaker 2: report back on the Ohl and sixty podcast, just like
- 25:06Speaker 2: we had when we're at the TSN studios in Hamilton's.
- 25:08Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, that'd be good. Yeah, I mean, parking
- 25:12Speaker 3: report would be something. I love what gwelf does. I
- 25:14Speaker 3: love how gwelf tweets out their part.
- 25:17Speaker 2: That was awesome.
- 25:18Speaker 3: That's unbelievable that they do that. That's cool.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I really like that too. To the division champions,
- 25:24Speaker 2: the the MS Trophy, the Central Division champion Barry Colts.
- 25:28Speaker 2: Second straight season that they have they've won the Central
- 25:32Speaker 2: and first year Dylan Smaskowitz takes home or helps the
- 25:36Speaker 2: Barry Colts organization take this home. So congratulations to him,
- 25:40Speaker 2: Congratulations to Marty Williamson and all the players involved. For
- 25:43Speaker 2: the Barry Colts, we got to a point in the
- 25:45Speaker 2: season where it was their division to lose and really
- 25:48Speaker 2: didn't see anyone challenging them for it, and well that's
- 25:51Speaker 2: kind of how it ended. The Barry Colts winning that
- 25:54Speaker 2: by a very large margin, so so congratulations to them obviously.
- 26:00Speaker 2: With the Bulldogs winning the Spectator Trophy, they take home
- 26:04Speaker 2: the Leyden Trophy as East Division champions. Kind of went
- 26:08Speaker 2: over the Bulldogs already, but they finished with a league
- 26:12Speaker 2: high one hundred and six points. Back to back division
- 26:15Speaker 2: titles for the Bulldogs as well, so they've run the
- 26:18Speaker 2: East Division for the last two years and looking to
- 26:21Speaker 2: take it a little bit further this year after a
- 26:23Speaker 2: second round exit to Oshawa in twenty twenty four. Twenty
- 26:27Speaker 2: twenty five in the Western Conference, the Midwest Division champion
- 26:31Speaker 2: Kitchener Rangers for the first time since twenty eighteen. They
- 26:36Speaker 2: collect one hundred points in consecutive seasons for the first
- 26:39Speaker 2: time in franchise history. The Holiday Trophy to the Kitchener
- 26:44Speaker 2: Rangers and Colin Ward's not London probably favorite player this
- 26:48Speaker 2: year Sam O'Reilly, Dylan Edwards and Jared Woolley. Sim yeah,
- 26:53Speaker 2: big big fans or Colin Ward, big fans of them.
- 26:59Speaker 2: Jack Pridham of course, forty six goals this season, samu ol'iley,
- 27:02Speaker 2: red Tilson winners. I don't even think it should be close,
- 27:06Speaker 2: Like Josh Brown said, last week. I don't even think
- 27:08Speaker 2: it should be close. Samuel' Riley's changed in identity. There
- 27:12Speaker 2: was no one hundred point guys this year, so I
- 27:14Speaker 2: think it makes it easy to.
- 27:15Speaker 3: Pick the Red Tilson this year. I think sam ol
- 27:17Speaker 3: Riley without a doubt when he's brought into that team.
- 27:21Speaker 3: I mean they look at their record at the deadline,
- 27:23Speaker 3: I mean at post deadline, they barely lost. Like yeah,
- 27:27Speaker 3: I think that without a doubt. The Rangers second half
- 27:30Speaker 3: I think is the most interesting. It's the most dominating
- 27:33Speaker 3: second half out of any team in the Intro Hockey
- 27:35Speaker 3: League right now in my opinion. Right now, Like, I
- 27:38Speaker 3: think that they've been great. I mean they're well coached.
- 27:41Speaker 3: Their goaltending was a question mark. I think they're starting
- 27:46Speaker 3: to get answers. They obviously they had a tough one
- 27:48Speaker 3: to Sarnia on Friday night, but I think they're starting
- 27:51Speaker 3: to get answers. I know Josh was quite confident about
- 27:53Speaker 3: their goaltending last week, so that's a good sign. And
- 27:55Speaker 3: then I just like their team. I really like their team.
- 27:58Speaker 3: I think you look at their ads. They made it
- 28:00Speaker 3: this year and I mean they really built well and
- 28:03Speaker 3: obviously they got some luck too. Right, get some guys back.
- 28:06Speaker 3: Prett comes back for a year like that. Like those
- 28:09Speaker 3: are huge area and you need those bounces to get
- 28:12Speaker 3: to come your way sometimes too to be good. So
- 28:14Speaker 3: the Rangers have done a great job this year, and
- 28:16Speaker 3: I think that they're gonna be the toughest out right
- 28:18Speaker 3: now in the Western Conference.
- 28:20Speaker 2: And then the West Division champion windsor spit Fires take
- 28:23Speaker 2: home the Bumbaco Trophy. We name the Flint Firebird. Not
- 28:28Speaker 2: bad eh, unreal name, really solid uh Spitfires, like I said,
- 28:34Speaker 2: kind of defeating the Flint Firebirds in the race to
- 28:37Speaker 2: the finish at the top of the at the top
- 28:40Speaker 2: of the West Division, so took until the final day,
- 28:45Speaker 2: probably doesn't make a difference to them whatsoever. They defeat
- 28:48Speaker 2: a really good hockey club in the Susaint Marie Greyhounds,
- 28:50Speaker 2: which also allowed the London Knights to finish fourth and
- 28:55Speaker 2: get whole ice in that first round against the Sue Greyhounds.
- 28:58Speaker 2: If Sue wins the finished they would get home ice
- 29:02Speaker 2: against London. Yeah, funny how it works out. London sells
- 29:04Speaker 2: but still gets home ice in the first round. Yeah,
- 29:07Speaker 2: but we've talked with Joey Costanzo. Obviously We've had a
- 29:10Speaker 2: multi have had multiple conversations about the spitfires. This year,
- 29:14Speaker 2: green Tree with thirty eight goals and seventy four points,
- 29:17Speaker 2: would all with sixty three points, twelve of those goals
- 29:20Speaker 2: fifty one assists. You know, just the winsor team that
- 29:23Speaker 2: we expected from the hop finished off the way we
- 29:25Speaker 2: expected them to.
- 29:26Speaker 3: Yeah, without a doubt. I mean it's funny Joey may
- 29:30Speaker 3: be reaching out to us and say, hey, look how
- 29:32Speaker 3: hot they got there after the interview. Right, you win
- 29:34Speaker 3: the division, I mean in the effect class.
- 29:37Speaker 2: I mean the quote two years of twenty twenty four
- 29:41Speaker 2: MLB season, don't let the Tigers get hot, well, right
- 29:44Speaker 2: across the border, don't let the Spits get hot. Yeah,
- 29:47Speaker 2: he's gonna come at us with yeah.
- 29:49Speaker 3: I mean, well, we had a good conversation there and
- 29:52Speaker 3: we talked and ever since then. Right, you know, there
- 29:54Speaker 3: were a couple of points back of Flint when he
- 29:56Speaker 3: came on and then all of a sudden, Yeah, So
- 30:00Speaker 3: don't want to take too much credit, Joey, but I
- 30:02Speaker 3: know you hear that. I know, I know you're feeling
- 30:04Speaker 3: good after that. I know we boosted up the team morale,
- 30:08Speaker 3: got that pizza, got that pizza in you the dog
- 30:11Speaker 3: and you got the pizza in you and Wins are
- 30:13Speaker 3: a great, great year that they've had this year. I
- 30:16Speaker 3: mean they're competitive. I mean they're led by their captain, right,
- 30:18Speaker 3: They're led by their leadership group. And Joey's one of
- 30:21Speaker 3: those guys in.
- 30:23Speaker 1: Doing it with old Belchets and ville Neuve right now.
- 30:25Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, that's great, that's impressive, right, like your prize
- 30:29Speaker 3: deadline acquisition and your top prospect, Like you look around
- 30:34Speaker 3: the league and you look at other teams, top draft
- 30:35Speaker 3: eligible players on these competitive on the competitive teams. I
- 30:39Speaker 3: mean he I'm like, you lose one of those guys, right,
- 30:42Speaker 3: Chase Reed and soon you look at Kala Mahult in Branford,
- 30:45Speaker 3: you look at Belchets and winsor right, those guys have
- 30:48Speaker 3: kind of they've been on top teams and you look
- 30:51Speaker 3: at them, they're a big part of their team.
- 30:52Speaker 2: That's a big loss, all right, to what might be
- 30:58Speaker 2: the most interesting conversation on this week's show in all
- 31:03Speaker 2: ninety minutes of it, we're about a third of the
- 31:06Speaker 2: way through, just over thirty minutes. In rumor is that
- 31:11Speaker 2: nineteen year old first round picks will be Ahl eligible
- 31:17Speaker 2: as of next year, so that first year they would
- 31:20Speaker 2: be eligible would be last year's draft class that included
- 31:23Speaker 2: Brady Martin Jacobrien as a bit, et cetera. I think
- 31:30Speaker 2: we've got two different viewpoints on this, Colin. Yeah, actually, yeah,
- 31:36Speaker 2: go ahead, you have the floor.
- 31:37Speaker 3: No no no, no no no no no.
- 31:40Speaker 2: I So for me, I think I would hate it
- 31:45Speaker 2: if it was everyone. If you're drafted in the seventh
- 31:47Speaker 2: round and could go to the AHL, Like, I don't
- 31:51Speaker 2: know about that. First rounders I'm okay with, Like I
- 31:57Speaker 2: understand why NHL clubs would win to send them to
- 32:00Speaker 2: the American Hockey League. You get into a Sam Dickinson situation,
- 32:07Speaker 2: like with Sam Dickinson awesome with London last year. Did
- 32:10Speaker 2: we enjoy watching him? Yes, I'm not gonna deny that whatsoever.
- 32:14Speaker 2: Was he at a level where yeah he was of
- 32:18Speaker 2: course he was good enough to play in the OHL,
- 32:20Speaker 2: I'm not gonna say that. But was he too good?
- 32:23Speaker 2: Was he too good to be in the OHL? And
- 32:27Speaker 2: like to me, like, so sorry, I'll rephrase that because
- 32:32Speaker 2: that would have been this year, I guess, so ignore me.
- 32:35Speaker 2: But there are first round talents that they get to
- 32:39Speaker 2: nineteen years old. And they're too good for the OHL.
- 32:42Speaker 2: That that's my personal opinion, and I think if you're
- 32:45Speaker 2: looking to grow the game and allow more paths to
- 32:50Speaker 2: success for these guys, then I'm good with first rounders
- 32:54Speaker 2: heading to the AHL at nineteen. Again, if we were
- 32:58Speaker 2: looking at everyone who was and they are HL eligible
- 33:03Speaker 2: at nineteen while okay, cool, the OHL is for that,
- 33:06Speaker 2: I should say the HL in general is for sixteen,
- 33:09Speaker 2: seventeen and eighteen year olds cool, and then the next
- 33:11Speaker 2: two years you're gone. I've got an issue with that.
- 33:15Speaker 2: First rounders, I'm I'm okay with I think I'm more
- 33:19Speaker 2: okay with it than a lot of people, certainly more
- 33:21Speaker 2: than Colin Ward. That's where I see you. And everyone
- 33:26Speaker 2: who's drafted in the first round is not ready for
- 33:28Speaker 2: the NA, is not ready for the AHL at nineteen
- 33:32Speaker 2: years old. There are certain guys that, for one, they're
- 33:37Speaker 2: not tough enough. We know what the AHL is, and
- 33:39Speaker 2: we understand that there is now a cap on how
- 33:43Speaker 2: many players you can dress over a certain age. Can
- 33:46Speaker 2: I understand that they're starting to become more of a
- 33:49Speaker 2: we'd like to develop guys into the NHL, which is
- 33:52Speaker 2: the whole point of the Minor leagues is to get
- 33:54Speaker 2: them up to the NHL and kind of what the
- 33:57Speaker 2: GOHL has worked on with the OHL this year, the
- 34:00Speaker 2: Development League like but like I said, you've got nineteen
- 34:04Speaker 2: year olds that have no business being in the AHL.
- 34:06Speaker 2: So that again, that it goes on the NHL team.
- 34:10Speaker 2: They hope they recognize that decision.
- 34:14Speaker 1: Before you get going, Hey, you know what, you know what?
- 34:17Speaker 3: Off topic? Off topic. Shout out to the Branford Bulldogs
- 34:19Speaker 3: and the Sagon of Spirit top point leaders back to
- 34:22Speaker 3: back years. Clip off of Misa last year and this year.
- 34:25Speaker 3: Van acker Lardis last year for the Bulldogs. Shout out
- 34:28Speaker 3: to that, Yes, Brandon put the list recentually proved my
- 34:31Speaker 3: point with the with the veteran rule.
- 34:35Speaker 1: This would be next year's list of guys that would
- 34:38Speaker 1: be eligible under this new ruling. Okay, want to you
- 34:41Speaker 1: want to read them off for the audio listeners?
- 34:43Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, we can go through them, so Schaeffer. So
- 34:46Speaker 2: there's names on this list that were like yeah, AHL, sure,
- 34:51Speaker 2: Matthew Shaeffer, Michael Misa, Caleb Dinoya, which congratulations to him.
- 34:55Speaker 2: Uh just signed his entry level deal. Phoenix Coyotes. Shout
- 35:01Speaker 2: out to the Coyotes. Uh. Brady Martin, Jacobrian Riddy, Merka
- 35:06Speaker 2: almost wasn't a buffalo saber. Shout out to Colton Pareco,
- 35:10Speaker 2: Ben Kendall, jack and has Bit, Jackson Smith, Branden Coots,
- 35:14Speaker 2: Cole Retchney, Cameron Reid and and Henry Brustevitch. And again, no,
- 35:18Speaker 2: that's hl Y, that's not just the OHL. Those are
- 35:21Speaker 2: guys who.
- 35:24Speaker 3: Correct, yes, correct YouTube, go.
- 35:31Speaker 2: Ahead, Wardy.
- 35:32Speaker 3: I absolutely hate this, I you know what like And
- 35:37Speaker 3: I think back to this year and last year Eastern Collen,
- 35:40Speaker 3: Eastern Cowen. He was great. He was incredible in the OHL,
- 35:45Speaker 3: for sure, But when I look at the debacle that
- 35:48Speaker 3: the Leaf's development is for Eastern Cowen's games. So I'm
- 35:53Speaker 3: not done. No, no, no, I'm not done yet. Let
- 35:55Speaker 3: me talk so Eastern Cowen. They've they've messed him up
- 35:59Speaker 3: so bad. Why do we rush guys into the NHL.
- 36:02Speaker 3: As a Detroit red wing fan growing up, it was
- 36:05Speaker 3: always a thing where guys are gonna go to grand rapids,
- 36:08Speaker 3: They're gonna over develop in a way and then come up.
- 36:11Speaker 3: That's not a thing anymore then. And the reason why
- 36:14Speaker 3: I say this is because the AHL, as you mentioned,
- 36:17Speaker 3: has a veteran rule, a veteran rule is in place
- 36:21Speaker 3: for a reason. One you're gonna call up. So I'm
- 36:24Speaker 3: gonna look up Brady Martin right now. Brady Martin has
- 36:27Speaker 3: been a lot of He's been hurt this year, obviously
- 36:31Speaker 3: World Juniors, the injury. There's been up and downs in
- 36:35Speaker 3: Brady Martin's game. He's a heck of a player. He
- 36:37Speaker 3: is a heck of a player, without a doubt. But
- 36:41Speaker 3: does that do him good playing on the third line
- 36:43Speaker 3: of the AHL in a checking role. Absolutely not. It
- 36:46Speaker 3: gets you hurt, it changes your game. And I speak
- 36:49Speaker 3: back to this another Sue Greyhound, Elite All Star player
- 36:53Speaker 3: who was drafted by the Coyotes, finding that Coyotes here
- 36:56Speaker 3: on the screen that when I look back at Barrett Hayton,
- 37:00Speaker 3: Barret Hayton had to play in the NHL, had to
- 37:03Speaker 3: play in the NHL, right, we had to get him
- 37:05Speaker 3: up there. He has to play in the NHL. Instead
- 37:07Speaker 3: of going back to Sue, now, all of a sudden,
- 37:11Speaker 3: he's a third line He's a third line checker, third
- 37:13Speaker 3: line center in the NHL. That's not a bad thing.
- 37:16Speaker 3: But he was never that in the OHL. In the OHL,
- 37:19Speaker 3: he was a high end prospect. He was a goal scorer,
- 37:23Speaker 3: was a captain of Team Can at the World Juniors,
- 37:25Speaker 3: then all of a sudden, where he's in the NHL,
- 37:27Speaker 3: he's a third line center. I think these guys, I
- 37:29Speaker 3: think it forces guys. I don't know why there's a
- 37:32Speaker 3: rush for guys to go up to the NHL. It worked,
- 37:35Speaker 3: It's worked for guys like I look around the league
- 37:38Speaker 3: and I look at guys that have been up and
- 37:39Speaker 3: down in the NHL who've come from the NHL or
- 37:43Speaker 3: from the OHL. It's worked. I hate this rule. I
- 37:46Speaker 3: hate it. I sorry, rees, I think that, like I
- 37:50Speaker 3: look at this list and the guys are the OHL.
- 37:52Speaker 3: I really only think Kayshawn Ahison is the only guy
- 37:55Speaker 3: physically that can play at this level and don't. I
- 37:58Speaker 3: don't think it's a knock at anybody right now, but I
- 38:00Speaker 3: think the AHL is a it's an under respected league.
- 38:05Speaker 3: When we talk about this from the league, like, I
- 38:07Speaker 3: think that the AHL is a very tough league. It's
- 38:11Speaker 3: still an incredibly tough league. I watched the Grand Rapids
- 38:14Speaker 3: Griffin's games. I look at guys like Amin Deis Lombardi
- 38:17Speaker 3: who lit it up in Flint. You know, like it's
- 38:20Speaker 3: a grind.
- 38:20Speaker 2: Would have made his NHL debut if he didn't get
- 38:22Speaker 2: hurt exactly.
- 38:23Speaker 3: And it's a grind. It's a grind. I look at
- 38:26Speaker 3: his extra year there, and I know it's first round picks.
- 38:29Speaker 3: I know it's first round picks, and it this isn't
- 38:32Speaker 3: and this is exceeding it. But I look at Nick
- 38:35Speaker 3: Lartis's year last year. If he's in the AHL, he's
- 38:37Speaker 3: not playing in the NHL. This year, he's a third,
- 38:40Speaker 3: he doesn't have the seventy goal season, he's not coming
- 38:42Speaker 3: into training camp with the talk. I truly believe.
- 38:45Speaker 2: That pick though.
- 38:47Speaker 3: No, that's what I'm that's what I'm saying. That's what
- 38:49Speaker 3: I mentioned. I know he's not a first round pick,
- 38:51Speaker 3: but I just think that. I just think that, Like
- 38:55Speaker 3: I look at guy like I know closely with Jacob Brian.
- 38:58Speaker 3: I mentioned Brady Martin. I look at Jacob Bryant, Jacob Brien.
- 39:01Speaker 3: I mean, he's a great player, but he spends a
- 39:03Speaker 3: lot of time on the ice right now. When he
- 39:05Speaker 3: gets hit, ahl Man, you're gonna get broken. I hate
- 39:09Speaker 3: to say it. And I don't know why there's a rush.
- 39:12Speaker 3: I don't know why there is a rush to get
- 39:14Speaker 3: to the NHL when I look around the league and
- 39:17Speaker 3: I look at some of these guys, and I'm thinking, man,
- 39:20Speaker 3: the NHL is tough. I know Matthew Shaffer is exceeding
- 39:23Speaker 3: all expectations right now, but it's not like it's Connor McDavid.
- 39:28Speaker 3: Those guys. Absolutely they should have expessional status in the NHL.
- 39:31Speaker 3: But I just think it's tough. It's very tough, like
- 39:36Speaker 3: with the NCAA and now this, I mean, what.
- 39:40Speaker 2: Do we do well? And the reason I wanted to
- 39:43Speaker 2: throw my hand in the air, and actually I've got
- 39:46Speaker 2: a few points just to kind of go over here.
- 39:48Speaker 2: So the h look, I looked it up just to
- 39:50Speaker 2: kind of for anyone that doesn't know what the rules are.
- 39:54Speaker 2: So the HL veteran rule essentially restricts the number of
- 39:58Speaker 2: experienced players a team can dress that they do focus
- 40:01Speaker 2: on development. Rosters must include, and this is game by game,
- 40:05Speaker 2: must include twelve players with two hundred and sixty or
- 40:08Speaker 2: fewer professional games, while a maximum of six spots can
- 40:15Speaker 2: be filled by veterans quote unquote three hundred and twenty
- 40:20Speaker 2: plus games or veteran except exempt two hundred and sixty
- 40:26Speaker 2: to three twenty, with specific limitations on veteran exempts. You
- 40:31Speaker 2: can go look that up if you want to. So
- 40:33Speaker 2: I just wanted to bring that up quickly. Second, the
- 40:37Speaker 2: rush to get players to pro is one money and
- 40:43Speaker 2: I know NIL and NCAA is a big part of that.
- 40:47Speaker 2: Every every kid's dream is gets to get to the
- 40:49Speaker 2: NHL and if they think turning pro gets them there quicker,
- 40:54Speaker 2: whether we think it does or not, Like I'm kind
- 40:57Speaker 2: of arguing for it. But in terms of players who
- 41:04Speaker 2: might be ready for the a h L and who aren't,
- 41:07Speaker 2: I'm looking at this list. Redeem because he's Schaeffer doesn't count. Yeah,
- 41:14Speaker 2: I think that's definitely.
- 41:16Speaker 1: I think Murca should be there. I've seen him play
- 41:18Speaker 1: a lot.
- 41:18Speaker 3: But.
- 41:20Speaker 2: Yeah, out of everyone, I haven't watched him enough. So
- 41:25Speaker 2: I can't really comment on on Merca. Brandon, Like you said,
- 41:28Speaker 2: if you think he's ready, you're Sabers, You're you're all
- 41:32Speaker 2: over that. If you think he's ready, then he's ready.
- 41:36Speaker 2: I I I fully trust you on your assessment there.
- 41:39Speaker 3: What do you look like, Brandon? Yeah? What what pairing?
- 41:44Speaker 3: What pairing would you would he be on?
- 41:46Speaker 1: Well? He was. He played a couple of games before
- 41:49Speaker 1: he got sent back, so he sent them back to
- 41:52Speaker 1: Seattle after he played weeks again red pair, But like
- 41:57Speaker 1: he sheltered minutes, isn't as an eighteen year old and ill?
- 42:02Speaker 2: And yeah, So I'll ask you this, Colin and Brandy.
- 42:05Speaker 2: You can even chime in if you'd like to get
- 42:08Speaker 2: around this where it's automatical first rounders can go the
- 42:11Speaker 2: AHL at nineteen. Yeah, you mentioned exceptional status, Colin. We've
- 42:17Speaker 2: got that in the OHL, We've got that in the WHL,
- 42:19Speaker 2: we've got that in the QMJHL should be for the A.
- 42:21Speaker 2: Would there be a board that should be created for
- 42:25Speaker 2: this to the AHL instead of just if you're in
- 42:29Speaker 2: the first round and you're nineteen years old, you can
- 42:31Speaker 2: go to the AHL no matter what. We don't care.
- 42:33Speaker 2: Teams can send them there. What if you had to
- 42:35Speaker 2: go to a board, whether it's the NHL and AHL combined,
- 42:42Speaker 2: whether it's just AHL. I don't know if you wrote
- 42:47Speaker 2: the EHL into this, I doubt it. But what if
- 42:51Speaker 2: you went into a situation like that where you had
- 42:53Speaker 2: to go in front of a board, explain your case,
- 42:55Speaker 2: back it up with the numbers, with your play. Maybe
- 42:59Speaker 2: you're SOE plays into the factor something like that. I'm
- 43:04Speaker 2: curious how that would look, what people's thoughts would be
- 43:06Speaker 2: on that.
- 43:07Speaker 3: No, and then that's something I'd get on board with
- 43:09Speaker 3: for sure, But letting every single team, I mean like
- 43:13Speaker 3: I yeah, Like I think that's a stretch Like some
- 43:16Speaker 3: of these guys, I don't think it's fair, Like I
- 43:18Speaker 3: agree with that if it's exceptional talent without a doubt.
- 43:21Speaker 3: Like I said, right now, when I look at the
- 43:23Speaker 3: league around the interial hockey, thin guy, only one guy
- 43:26Speaker 3: really stands out to me, and it's Kasehawn Ahison because
- 43:28Speaker 3: he already plays a physical game. He's already running around
- 43:31Speaker 3: a little bit like I think the AHL like he's
- 43:35Speaker 3: ready for that level. I don't know, Like I that's
- 43:38Speaker 3: the only guy I can think of, Like I, I
- 43:41Speaker 3: don't know, Like I feel like it's a hard like
- 43:44Speaker 3: it's a hard jump. And I think we're gonna see
- 43:46Speaker 3: a lot more labeled status of Bust. And maybe it's
- 43:50Speaker 3: because I witnessed the Red Wings do it a bunch
- 43:52Speaker 3: with Phillip Zadina like Bust, like I.
- 43:57Speaker 2: Who were not fans of Michael Meanson.
- 44:01Speaker 3: Yeah, like Ken Holland had to rush them up right
- 44:04Speaker 3: Like why like why? So I think that the extra
- 44:08Speaker 3: year isn't a bad thing. I don't. I think that, Like,
- 44:11Speaker 3: it's kind of a disrespect to where major junior I
- 44:14Speaker 3: take it as especially. Yeah, on the flip side, On
- 44:17Speaker 3: the flip side, Elliott Friedman was the one who talked
- 44:20Speaker 3: about it on Saturday Night Headlines. And on the flip side,
- 44:23Speaker 3: Elliot Friedman's the one on his show on thirty two
- 44:26Speaker 3: Thoughts has been talking about expanding the draft to a
- 44:29Speaker 3: year older at getting drafted at eighteen, So then what
- 44:33Speaker 3: does this do then? So then first year players will
- 44:35Speaker 3: be alledge about that every gets changed in the next
- 44:37Speaker 3: collector's argon. That won't be this one, obviously, but the
- 44:40Speaker 3: next one that'll be the thing. And I just see
- 44:41Speaker 3: the way it's going. And I look at the hockey
- 44:43Speaker 3: landscape right now, and I look back to the minor
- 44:45Speaker 3: hockey in this open border crap, like like man, I
- 44:50Speaker 3: used to love it playing for my hometown, Like I
- 44:52Speaker 3: would do whatever I could to play for my hometown.
- 44:54Speaker 3: Like I don't think anybody cares anymore, Like I remember,
- 44:58Speaker 3: Like baseball, we talked about it last week. He's off
- 45:00Speaker 3: the record, but we talked about baseball. All these guys
- 45:03Speaker 3: going to play in these city teams. He's all star
- 45:06Speaker 3: teams and paying a lot of money to go nowhere.
- 45:08Speaker 3: Like I don't, I just I don't like the message.
- 45:12Speaker 3: And I know, like I know, money is a big
- 45:14Speaker 3: thing too, because you want to get rushed to get
- 45:16Speaker 3: that contract, you want to get that bag right away.
- 45:19Speaker 3: And it all started in football. Football was like that
- 45:21Speaker 3: in the NFL before college, all this nil stuff. Football
- 45:25Speaker 3: players they want to go to the they want to
- 45:27Speaker 3: go to the draft because they want to get that bag,
- 45:29Speaker 3: pay for their parents, pay for their family, without a doubt.
- 45:31Speaker 3: And now this is gonna happen in the NHL, where
- 45:33Speaker 3: guys are rushing to get to the league. There's guys
- 45:37Speaker 3: that are still battling it out in the NHL. Like
- 45:39Speaker 3: I look at some guys around the league, like some
- 45:41Speaker 3: of these veteran guys, you know, like I'm looking at
- 45:43Speaker 3: Jamie ben Jamie ben Broke, but Dylan Larkin's neck, like
- 45:47Speaker 3: I'm looking at Uh, I'm looking at like guys like
- 45:50Speaker 3: Ryan O'Reilly, like these guys, like these guys are still
- 45:54Speaker 3: in the league, like they're gonna Like I think it's
- 45:56Speaker 3: a dangerous slope for guys, and I don't know why
- 45:59Speaker 3: we rush it because I look at the guy like,
- 46:01Speaker 3: and I know he's not a first round pick, but
- 46:03Speaker 3: I look at a guy like AJ's Fallacy and I'm thinking, man,
- 46:07Speaker 3: he's he's excelling. He's excelling. He went he's been good
- 46:10Speaker 3: on windsor he's been great on Windsor he goes to
- 46:13Speaker 3: the World Juniors, he was one of the best players
- 46:15Speaker 3: for the US, comes back to winsor he's been great,
- 46:19Speaker 3: like Liam green Tree. Liam green Tree a first round pick,
- 46:23Speaker 3: Like I think this has been great for his development.
- 46:26Speaker 3: I think this has been great. Like Merrick Van Actors,
- 46:30Speaker 3: you're leading goal scorer in the NHL IF or in
- 46:32Speaker 3: the OHL. If he's playing in the AHL this year,
- 46:35Speaker 3: he's playing once every five games. And I can honestly
- 46:37Speaker 3: say that with Chicago, like he's great in the OHL,
- 46:40Speaker 3: but the AHL, man he's probably a scratch. Like I'm
- 46:43Speaker 3: looking at guys around the I'm looking at guys around
- 46:46Speaker 3: the AHL, like I mean Thomas Hamer, his teammate, playing
- 46:50Speaker 3: one in every three games in Belleville, Like it's it's
- 46:54Speaker 3: a tough league. And I think that like everyone I
- 46:56Speaker 3: talked to about it, like it's great, but you're if
- 47:00Speaker 3: it puts the pressure on the teams to still make
- 47:02Speaker 3: logical decisions. Don't fall in love with a player because
- 47:06Speaker 3: I and I know I ripped on the leaves because
- 47:09Speaker 3: you saw that with Easton Cowen. How oh he can't
- 47:11Speaker 3: he's too good to play for the Marles. But then
- 47:13Speaker 3: we're only gonna play on one in every three games
- 47:15Speaker 3: at the time. Obviously he's in the lineup with them
- 47:18Speaker 3: being no good.
- 47:19Speaker 2: But and he's gonna sit at home during the Olympics
- 47:22Speaker 2: doing nothing.
- 47:23Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly, I would have put him in the AHL
- 47:25Speaker 3: as long as I could let him play for the Marles.
- 47:28Speaker 3: Let him be a first line player for them. Do
- 47:30Speaker 3: not why you had to rush them up to the NHL.
- 47:33Speaker 3: Why and Brandon You're seeing that with the Sabers this year.
- 47:37Speaker 3: I know the Sabers had a lot of guys come
- 47:38Speaker 3: up from the AHL, like that Rochester relationship, like Reace
- 47:43Speaker 3: we saw it with Grand Rapids, like the Red Wings
- 47:46Speaker 3: have forever sent left guys there for too long. I
- 47:49Speaker 3: just think it's be patient. Realistically, getting into the ACHL
- 47:54Speaker 3: at twenty or nineteen isn't gonna make a difference in
- 47:56Speaker 3: my opinion. I think twenties a you're older you're in
- 47:59Speaker 3: your twenties, a teenager. You're not living at someone's house
- 48:03Speaker 3: just to get by. Like I, I, yeah, I struggle
- 48:07Speaker 3: to like it.
- 48:08Speaker 1: I'm with you on that.
- 48:10Speaker 2: Like three, I think what it'll do also, too, is
- 48:13Speaker 2: that's going to expose a lot of teams development And
- 48:18Speaker 2: you get like, yeah, that is. I'm not gonna say
- 48:25Speaker 2: that'll dig yourselves a grave by any means, But all
- 48:32Speaker 2: it takes is one for it to ruin it for
- 48:35Speaker 2: the rest of the organization and everyone involved. Where you
- 48:38Speaker 2: send a first round pick when he's nineteen years old,
- 48:41Speaker 2: let's say you draft him eleventh overall. Let's just random
- 48:43Speaker 2: number Ben Kindle on this list at number eleven to Pittsburgh.
- 48:47Speaker 2: But let's say you draft to get eleventh overall, send
- 48:49Speaker 2: him to the HL. When he's nineteen, he's still in
- 48:52Speaker 2: the HL when he's twenty five. Well, it's like, well,
- 48:55Speaker 2: what would have happened if you kept him in junior
- 48:57Speaker 2: for another year? And again that's of those questions where
- 49:00Speaker 2: nobody has any idea how that would have turned out.
- 49:03Speaker 2: But the way the modern world looks at things, Oh,
- 49:06Speaker 2: you screwed up one player, so you're gonna screw up everyone.
- 49:08Speaker 2: Else and say, well, yep, hmm, you know, and that like,
- 49:12Speaker 2: and it's unfortunate because not every situation is the same.
- 49:16Speaker 2: There are first round picks that don't pan out in
- 49:18Speaker 2: the NHL. It happens Noil Yakapov unfortunately, and ohl Alum
- 49:23Speaker 2: played for Sarnia. But look how highly touted he was.
- 49:25Speaker 2: He had some decent years in the NHL. But you know,
- 49:31Speaker 2: and again, imports are different. Imports can still go to
- 49:33Speaker 2: the AHL. Earlier, that's always been a thing. I think
- 49:37Speaker 2: that'll continue to be a thing. But like I said,
- 49:41Speaker 2: it takes one guy. It takes one team to ruin
- 49:43Speaker 2: one guy, and for it's all come crumbling down. So
- 49:47Speaker 2: I think, again, you gotta be smart first round picks.
- 49:51Speaker 2: I'm okay with. However, you need to be very very
- 49:56Speaker 2: careful about which first round picks you're sending there. Again,
- 50:00Speaker 2: two through seven makes zero sense. I think if you're
- 50:03Speaker 2: a six and seventh round pick, going to the AHL
- 50:06Speaker 2: is not going to solve anything quick Like, it's not
- 50:09Speaker 2: going to get them the NHL quicker. Those are guys
- 50:11Speaker 2: that are more than likely going to need more time
- 50:13Speaker 2: in the pros in the AHL, Like we're looking at three, four,
- 50:16Speaker 2: or five years unless you're at Finny. No, there's another one, right,
- 50:21Speaker 2: Like again, there's an exception. It happens like some guys
- 50:24Speaker 2: will succeed, some guys will fail. But that's where I
- 50:26Speaker 2: think you have the first rounders. It's like I'm I'm
- 50:29Speaker 2: fine with that. But again, you gotta be very very careful,
- 50:33Speaker 2: very careful about who actually gets on there and how
- 50:36Speaker 2: you deal with that. Honestly, I hope a GM, I
- 50:39Speaker 2: hope a GM makes that decision to say, no, you're
- 50:42Speaker 2: not ready. I'll eat it.
- 50:43Speaker 3: I'll eat the media. I will eat it. I will
- 50:46Speaker 3: eat you know what. I think that's what it's going
- 50:47Speaker 3: to be.
- 50:48Speaker 2: Immediately off the hot I think you're that immediately right away.
- 50:52Speaker 3: If your guy is still around, you know he's gonna
- 50:54Speaker 3: do it in Niger, you know, Yeah, you don't know that,
- 50:57Speaker 3: like I like, I don't think it's a bad thing.
- 51:00Speaker 3: I don't like you know, it's a tough league, gets it,
- 51:03Speaker 3: the AHL. I mean you already got a roster, you
- 51:06Speaker 3: have it. You know, it's it's a tough.
- 51:08Speaker 2: It's tough.
- 51:09Speaker 3: Like I I I look at some AHL teams, I'm thinking, well,
- 51:13Speaker 3: Jcobrien right now on Coachella Valley is he's on the
- 51:16Speaker 3: third line. Like he's on the third line. He's not
- 51:20Speaker 3: a third line player. He's gonna get hurt. He's not
- 51:22Speaker 3: gonna be able to check guys at the AHL level
- 51:25Speaker 3: for the whole season, a longer season like that. It's hard,
- 51:28Speaker 3: like I it's tough, like I think, I hope I'm
- 51:32Speaker 3: gonna give props to a general manager who says, no,
- 51:36Speaker 3: you're not going you're not ready.
- 51:37Speaker 2: I'll eat it.
- 51:38Speaker 3: But go to World Juniors, Go go play junior, Go
- 51:41Speaker 3: get on the scene at World Juniors. I know there's
- 51:43Speaker 3: a lot of guys that don't turn out after World Juniors,
- 51:45Speaker 3: but there's also a lot of guys that do turn
- 51:47Speaker 3: out because of going to World Juniors and being a star.
- 51:49Speaker 3: So I think that it'll be interesting to see. I
- 51:51Speaker 3: just think that what's gonna happen. I mean, I know
- 51:54Speaker 3: it's not a college show, but what's gonna happen when
- 51:56Speaker 3: guy's going to college? Like what now? Like? Oh, what,
- 52:00Speaker 3: you're going for a six month degree? Like them? You
- 52:05Speaker 3: might as well go to a community college like the
- 52:06Speaker 3: old star baseball players that they're that are still kicking.
- 52:12Speaker 3: But biggest waste of money there is but anyway, Yeah,
- 52:15Speaker 3: I just think it's it's a lot.
- 52:17Speaker 2: Yeah. Well you can go set up a booth at
- 52:19Speaker 2: the Norfolk Fair and start signing autograph so you know,
- 52:25Speaker 2: all right, we're gonna hit a break when we come back.
- 52:27Speaker 2: We're gonna run our final draft lottery simulator before the
- 52:30Speaker 2: real thing takes place. We're also going to look at
- 52:34Speaker 2: the bottom four teams, the two on each side who
- 52:36Speaker 2: missed the playoffs, sort of improvements that we'd like to
- 52:39Speaker 2: see or what they need to do in the offseason
- 52:41Speaker 2: heading into twenty twenty six seven and the.
- 52:47Speaker 3: Playoffs.
- 52:48Speaker 2: We're headed to the playoffs. Eight matchups to look forward to.
- 52:51Speaker 2: That's all coming up next here on the Ohl and
- 52:53Speaker 2: sixty Podcast.

- 54:50Speaker 2: We've got a draft simulator to run for the final
- 54:53Speaker 2: time this season and it stays the same again. So
- 55:00Speaker 2: one through four and that'll be one as the lowest
- 55:03Speaker 2: and four as the highest remaining seed. So with the
- 55:08Speaker 2: highest odds to win the draft lottery at forty percent,
- 55:11Speaker 2: the Oshawa Generals forty two points this season with the
- 55:16Speaker 2: thirty percent chance to get the first overall pick, the
- 55:19Speaker 2: Ariadders forty five points, the team with the third highest
- 55:25Speaker 2: odds to get the first overall pick so twenty percent,
- 55:29Speaker 2: Brampton steel Heads forty eight points, and the Sarnia Sting
- 55:32Speaker 2: with a ten percent chance to get the first overall
- 55:34Speaker 2: pick finished with fifty one points. Colin Ward run the
- 55:40Speaker 2: simulator who is picking where so pick.
- 55:44Speaker 3: Number four not moving the Sarnia Sting pick fourth overall
- 55:50Speaker 3: in this upcoming March twenty fourth major Draft Lottery simulator,
- 55:55Speaker 3: the most important drafts Lottery Simulator. Yeah two date Sarnia
- 55:59Speaker 3: Picks four are in the draft. Pick number three the
- 56:04Speaker 3: Brampton steel Head or no, the Eerie Otters. Oh my gosh, sorry,
- 56:08Speaker 3: I was looking at the standings and the wrong picture
- 56:10Speaker 3: of my iPads die and so I have it all
- 56:11Speaker 3: on different the Erie Otters. Sorry to Brampton the Eerie
- 56:14Speaker 3: as they fall one spot in pick third from the
- 56:19Speaker 3: second best odds, so they'd have twenty balls in the
- 56:22Speaker 3: lottery or thirty balls in the lottery instead of forty
- 56:24Speaker 3: And they drop one spot in the Draft Lottery simulator
- 56:29Speaker 3: for March twenty fourth edition of the simulator, the most
- 56:31Speaker 3: important simulator to date. In the EHL second pick or
- 56:35Speaker 3: wait no, we go to one the first pick in
- 56:38Speaker 3: the draft, the Brampton steel Heads. They rise the most.
- 56:43Speaker 3: They go up two spots, two to one from three
- 56:47Speaker 3: to one in Oshawa picks two, so Oshawa tough, Tough,
- 56:50Speaker 3: bounce on the draft lottery simulator this season. But that's
- 56:54Speaker 3: your simulator on the YouTube screen, Sorrna for Eerie Threehawa two,
- 56:59Speaker 3: Brampton one. Well, Brandon could really use the prospect. We
- 57:04Speaker 3: spoke with Zach Bodenstein on our Trade Deadline show and
- 57:07Speaker 3: how much they need a high end prospect that comes
- 57:10Speaker 3: that they actually get.
- 57:11Speaker 2: I mean the stay.
- 57:12Speaker 3: I mean you saw them are tones right that they
- 57:14Speaker 3: can actually draft, I mean other than I even COVID,
- 57:17Speaker 3: So it'd be nice to be able to get that
- 57:19Speaker 3: guy and number one. I mean, there's plenty of options.
- 57:21Speaker 3: What's the status on Cato Rouric with the exceptional status rumors?
- 57:25Speaker 3: That could be a big one for the next show.
- 57:27Speaker 3: Maybe by next show that could be a confirmed yes
- 57:29Speaker 3: or no on his exceptional status approach defenseman out of Toronto.
- 57:34Speaker 3: I mean, a lot of options in the draft. There's
- 57:36Speaker 3: a lot of high end talent this year in the
- 57:38Speaker 3: top four. So nevertheless, all these teams are gonna get
- 57:42Speaker 3: a stud. It's just about the development and the process.
- 57:44Speaker 3: Because you can talk to Sarnia who's been in the
- 57:46Speaker 3: draft lottery last what three years? Doesn't matter how many
- 57:50Speaker 3: studs you get, you gotta find a way to get
- 57:52Speaker 3: over the hump.
- 57:53Speaker 2: Yeah, so let's get to that because we're gonna talk
- 57:56Speaker 2: briefly here about teams that aren't in the playoffs that
- 58:00Speaker 2: whether they're missing for the first time in a while,
- 58:02Speaker 2: whether they're missing for their third year in a row,
- 58:04Speaker 2: sarn't you. Let's briefly share what they might need to
- 58:11Speaker 2: do or what they have to do in order to
- 58:13Speaker 2: not be in this conversation next year. Let's start bottom
- 58:16Speaker 2: to top, so that means the bottom Oshawa Generals. They
- 58:19Speaker 2: finished nineteen forty five to three and one for a
- 58:22Speaker 2: total of forty two points. They score one hundred and
- 58:24Speaker 2: seventy seven goals, they allowed two hundred and seventy three,
- 58:28Speaker 2: power play of nineteen percent, and the penalty kill at
- 58:31Speaker 2: seventy six point seven. Obviously, they're coming off back to
- 58:34Speaker 2: back Bobby Your trophies, which is an accomplishment on its own.
- 58:39Speaker 2: So you knew a down year was coming. Whether you
- 58:42Speaker 2: thought they were going to be last or not was
- 58:44Speaker 2: a different story. But for the Oshawa General's call in ward,
- 58:47Speaker 2: what would you like to see from them in the
- 58:48Speaker 2: offseason heading into twenty six twenty seven.
- 58:51Speaker 3: It's some of the North pity battalion from a couple
- 58:53Speaker 3: of seasons ago. Right, you go to the conference final
- 58:55Speaker 3: every year, the Oshawa Generals go to the final back
- 58:57Speaker 3: back years and loose to London Knights. The buzz saw
- 59:00Speaker 3: the Knights that they were. And you look at that, right,
- 59:02Speaker 3: you think, well, you need the prospects. You got to
- 59:05Speaker 3: recoup those picks. They've done so with the Danford trade,
- 59:07Speaker 3: of the Sandu trade, the Wang trade. Like they've done
- 59:12Speaker 3: that so far. So continue to recoup picks. Develop. I
- 59:16Speaker 3: like Sam Roberts, but I'm thinking.
- 59:18Speaker 2: More of youth.
- 59:19Speaker 3: Like add to that young core, add to your sixteen
- 59:22Speaker 3: year olds, add to your seventeen year olds, and see
- 59:25Speaker 3: what happens here. I think a o'donald's a nice piece
- 59:28Speaker 3: to get. Can you get Luca deep Placito for a
- 59:30Speaker 3: full season next season because you still have another year
- 59:33Speaker 3: yet next year in between Cornell the school he committed to,
- 59:37Speaker 3: so you still have an extra year yet that you
- 59:39Speaker 3: could get him. If he can get him, well, there
- 59:41Speaker 3: is a chance to put you in the playoff hunt
- 59:43Speaker 3: for next season. Continue to develop the young core. You
- 59:46Speaker 3: gotta get lucky. We talked about the Kitchen Rangers getting lucky.
- 59:49Speaker 3: Right if the Oshawa Generals that they get lucky. It's
- 59:52Speaker 3: a nice facility there. We'll see how the showers are.
- 59:56Speaker 3: No pun intended, sorry Oshawa, but we'll see what happens.
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: But I just think that Theoshawa Generals, if you can
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: continue to add to this young nucleus that you got
- 1:00:06Speaker 3: through the draft last season in the first round with
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: Sam Roberts, which I liked that pick, you make the
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: trade for Aid and O'Donnell. You have these young talented
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: players interesting to see. You know, when Griffin back right,
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: you might have a decent team here next year. Just
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: continue to stay patient with the rebuild here and we'll
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: see how they are next year. I don't expect them
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: to be a one seed next year, but I expect
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: them and I don't know, and no one can expect
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: to do the Ottawa sixty seven is what they did.
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: But I think this team is definitely going to be
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: a competitive team next year, a lot more than twentieth
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: ranked in the OHL for that matter.
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: Next up the Erie Otters. They finished nineteenth overall with
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: a record of eighteen forty one, five and four for
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: a total of forty five points. Interesting note they did
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: lose more than the Earth. Yeah, they did win less
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: games than the Oshawa Generals this season. However, they lost
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: more in overtime, which I don't know how much of
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: an accomplishment is just worst lottery odds, I guess, but yeah,
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: forty five points. They they scored one hundred and seventy
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: nine goals, they allowed two hundred and eighty nine, So
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: that's a worse goal differential than the Aushwood Generals. They
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: were eighteen point eight percent on the power play, seventy
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: seven point two percent on the penalty kill otters. Unfortunately,
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: back out of the playoffs, Colin, we saw a couple
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: of years where they got back into the mix, and
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: you know, we thought they were on an upward trajectory.
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: And you know, obviously you get a stud like Matthew
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: Shaeffer while you get a stud like Matthew Shaffer for
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: only two years, which is really unfortunate, not even two
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: years with the with the injuries he had. So are
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: you at a position where you try again and start over? Colin?
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: Was this year the first year of starting over? What's
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: your take on them heading into next year?
- 1:01:49Speaker 3: It's a team that next year and well, when we
- 1:01:51Speaker 3: look back at the end of the year, We'll see
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: what teams fall off. Where are the Kitchen or Rangers
- 1:01:56Speaker 3: next year?
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: Right? We know the gall Storm are going to be good.
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: What are the one Sound Attack next season? Right?
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: Like?
- 1:02:02Speaker 3: The one Sound Attack could be the Eerie Otters this
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: year without a doubt. If someone told me that Owen
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: Sound's gonna finish where Eerie did this year next season,
- 1:02:10Speaker 3: I'd be like, Hey, I'm not surprised by that. And
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: I think that the Eerie Otters. You look at the
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: team and I think it. I don't want to say
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: this in a mean way. I don't mean an assaulting
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: way Otter fans, but I think they need a little
- 1:02:24Speaker 3: bit more skill. You look at their specialty teams they lack.
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: I like Lucas Ambrosio, a second round pick of THEIRS.
- 1:02:31Speaker 3: I think he's gonna be a good player for them.
- 1:02:34Speaker 3: I think that if you can continue to develop these guys,
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: add to young nucleus to the team, it gives you
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: a chance. Let's be honest, If Matthew Schaffer's on the
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: NHL and he's back an Erie, well the Otters here
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: where the London Knights are this year?
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: Sure? Like, yeah, it's that close. Even I even forgot
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: about Spence going off to Michigan too. Yeah, yeah, yeah, like.
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: You just can't. You can't lose guys. You cannot lose
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: guys to the nc double A. And youve got to
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: continue this growth. You gotta have a process. You gotta
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: have players committed for the following season. And if you
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: have a good returning core group, you'll be okay. But
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: continue to build to the core. Get a young talented player. Hey,
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: what an opportunity if they can get Cato Rouric at
- 1:03:14Speaker 3: at second overall, even that opportunity would be crazy, right,
- 1:03:17Speaker 3: So we'll see what happens. But I just think that
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: you get that chance, you add to that young nucleus.
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: You did that with Matthew Schaeffer without a doubt. I
- 1:03:28Speaker 3: think that they could be a competitive team next season
- 1:03:30Speaker 3: if they can add that and you can't lose guys
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: to the NCAA. That hurt them. That was depleting for
- 1:03:34Speaker 3: them for sure the tofseason.
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: Yeah, next up to Brampton. Steelheads finished eighteenth overall in
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: the regular season nineteen thirty nine, six and four for
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: a total of forty eight points. They scored one hundred
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: and sixty four goals, which is dead last in the
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: Ontario Hockey League. They allowed two hundred and forty six
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: goals this season, eighteen point one percent on the power play,
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: seventy five point two percent on the penalty kill definitely
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: didn't help. Losing Jack Ivankovic to Michigan Big Ten champs,
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: Let's go Blue uh and uh Port of Martone to
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: Michigan State, Michigan's little brother. You that's tough, right, And
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: and you could compare that to the Erie Oters losing
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: Schaeffer losing Spence, like it's very similar. Yes, hey, yes,
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: not a defenseman included in that eree didn't lose a goaltender. However,
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: skill wise it's very very similar. And you know, Brampton
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: after a season where they were number one in the
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: chl EGO rankings off the hop and then they lose
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: out in round one and and then you go to
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: this like it's just just a couple of first tough
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: years in Brampton when you expect to have a great
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: first year in the new barn and in the new city.
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: And then you follow it up with Ivan Covid unfortunately
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: leaving for Michigan, although it worked out for US Michigan
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: fans and then Martone leaving for Michigan State. Yeah, it
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: sucks for the OHL. You're you're absolutely right, so and
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: and you already touched on it. Uh with our conversation
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: with Zach Bodenstein. You got to developed through the draft.
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: You have to. You have to the Brampton Steelheads. I
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: don't think there's really many other options. Obviously we've seen Jr.
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: Make trades, but right now you've got to look at
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: the draft.
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: And they've struggled in the draft. They have struggled in
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: the draft. There's two things. There's two things that I
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: think about the Brampton steel Heads. That's off, she don't
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: get decimated by the NCAA again if they get gutted.
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: And then I'm gonna be honest with you guys right
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: now as I help them honest rowte the show.
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: But I was gonna say, have you been lying to
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: us all since?
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: No? No, But I think the Brampton and Brampton steel
- 1:05:40Speaker 3: Heads weren't a good hockey team this year. I'm just
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: gonna say it. They were not a good hockey team
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: this year. But they worked their butts off. I thought,
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: I really did, like they didn't have a lot of
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: talent but the team worked their butts off and then
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: you see the goal on Sunday Stan Coban through the legs,
- 1:05:58Speaker 3: like they're starting to get skilled. But and I hate
- 1:06:00Speaker 3: to say this, but stank Covin scores a gold. I'm thinking,
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: oh gosh, you imagine if he hands up in the
- 1:06:04Speaker 3: NC DOUBLEA next year. Like, you know, like you can't
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: get decimated by the NC Double A. You cannot get
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: decimated by the NC Double A. Maybe this is a
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: business thing. Maybe this is more of a business question
- 1:06:17Speaker 3: over on ice, more like upgrade the facility, you know,
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: And like I just think that, like you gotta you
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: gotta get on you gotta be able to keep guys
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: this year, and too, like you mentioned the draft. Those
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: are the two things I wanted to mention.
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: The draft.
- 1:06:32Speaker 3: Yes, you gotta commit to the draft this year. They
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: have to have a good draft. They have the most
- 1:06:35Speaker 3: important draft out of any team right now. Two can't
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: get decimated by because if they get decimated by the
- 1:06:42Speaker 3: NC Double A, it's over. There's another bad year and
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: then you're all of a sudden, you're the sarniest thing.
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: And you're moving to Cornwall.
- 1:06:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: Oh, playing especially and then maybe becoming Cornwall who knows,
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: but the OHL has discussed expansion more than relocation, so well,
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: we'll leave that one alone. But yeah, let's let's get
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: to the Sarnia Sting Colin twenty one thirty eight, eight
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: and one for a total of fifty one points. They
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: scored two hundred and five goals, they allowed two hundred
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: and eighty nine. They did finish the year in a
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: three game winning streak, though might have hurt their chances
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: for the first overall pick, which is unfortunate for the
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: front office but awesome for the players. Eighteen point eight
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: percent on the power play, seventy four point eight percent
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: on the penalty kill, and the Sarnia Sting right now,
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: Colin are into ice Dog's territory from fall check to
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: last year or the year before that, i should say,
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: twenty three twenty four territory before they made the playoffs
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: back to back years. That's kind of where the Sarniast
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: thing are. They're teetering on what Niagara and Eerie were
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: for for a number of years. And obviously there have
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: been more than those teams to go without playoffs for
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: three four five years. It has happened before, but that
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: is an issue for Well Western I mean, first of
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: all fans of the London Nights and Sarnia Sting, because
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: you want that series to be competitive every year and
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: it doesn't matter what team is on the ice, I
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: mean always, it's going to provide hype. But like it
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: was a rough year for hockeys Sarnia, we're gonna be blunt,
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: oh and fifty Legionnaires, which is still higher on the
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: power rankings in the Oushwall Legionaires and then the Sarnia
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: Sting missing the playoffs third year in a row. Just Colin,
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: we know your opinion on this already. We we've kind
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: of BC and I have heard it already. But share
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: with the with the listeners because I think there's a
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: few people on social media that will agree with you.
- 1:08:54Speaker 3: Start the engines, winding it up, going to going to
- 1:08:58Speaker 3: circle advertisings. No, I think the I think the Sarnia
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: Sting and I look back for the last couple of
- 1:09:08Speaker 3: seasons and I ain't surprised. The old moneyball reference there's
- 1:09:12Speaker 3: fifty feet a crap and then there's us, and then
- 1:09:15Speaker 3: the well the drop and then there's us. That that's
- 1:09:19Speaker 3: the Sarniest thing right now. They need somebody that can
- 1:09:22Speaker 3: actually make a competent decision in the front office. That's
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: one without a doubt. They had Joey Sinclair, a high end,
- 1:09:30Speaker 3: elite talent in the BHL, who was after training camp,
- 1:09:35Speaker 3: who was at the training camp this year, who wanted
- 1:09:38Speaker 3: to sign. He wanted to play for this arniest thing
- 1:09:41Speaker 3: this season and it didn't get it done. Where's he
- 1:09:45Speaker 3: Branford Bulldogs for next season? But he signs with the
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: Branford Bulldogs two back a couple of seasons ago. Evan
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: van Gorp after training camp. It's after training camp. Never
- 1:10:02Speaker 3: never got a contract. Where's he? He's an Oway Child
- 1:10:05Speaker 3: champion for the London Nights. That one hurts the most.
- 1:10:08Speaker 3: That one's gonna hurt the most of the Sarnia's damn
- 1:10:11Speaker 3: letting him go up the four h two like that.
- 1:10:13Speaker 3: But you know what I'm like, you know, like it's
- 1:10:15Speaker 3: a complete joke. Like who's ever who's ever eyeing talent
- 1:10:20Speaker 3: there doesn't know talent clearly? What are like? They need
- 1:10:25Speaker 3: a complete overhaul in the front office. I look at
- 1:10:27Speaker 3: through roster. I look at through roster. When I look
- 1:10:30Speaker 3: at guys, the Oreo high end pick recently he's a
- 1:10:35Speaker 3: good player, He's a talented player. I like Mitch Young,
- 1:10:38Speaker 3: but they should have moved him. They should have traded
- 1:10:40Speaker 3: them when they could, when they had values for him.
- 1:10:42Speaker 3: Why did they sit on that right? Why make those
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: moves They made the Lucas Fisher, they had to make that.
- 1:10:48Speaker 3: I saw that coming for a while though now behind
- 1:10:51Speaker 3: the scenes, we've been talking about that deal for about
- 1:10:54Speaker 3: since last year. We were talking about him getting moved
- 1:10:56Speaker 3: in Sarnia. But they.
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: Lemons.
- 1:11:01Speaker 3: They draft them this past year top four, top four pick,
- 1:11:06Speaker 3: where like they have talent. When are we gonna make
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: decisions here and build around it? Like this is a
- 1:11:14Speaker 3: complete joke. Like I'm at a loss for words, believe
- 1:11:20Speaker 3: it or not that the Sarnia sting cannot figure it out.
- 1:11:25Speaker 3: And I don't know what the deal is with Sarnia,
- 1:11:27Speaker 3: maybe because it's a I mean, it is out there,
- 1:11:30Speaker 3: like you're not. It's not like players from the States
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: are just gonna come over the border and play for you.
- 1:11:34Speaker 3: But like I I struggle to see Sarnia this poor.
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: Like but like I know, I don't get that they've
- 1:11:43Speaker 2: got the barn. Yeah, they've got the market, You've got
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: everything there you're right. Is it just because you can't
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: evaluate talent properly? I don't know. They've got everything there
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: that the college is right there, Like you've got tons
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: of parking that's free, Like the mall's just down the street.
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: Sure you're not downtown, but Chuck's at it. Also, what's
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: downtowns aren't you? Yeah, there's a Chucks right there. Well,
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: there's slots in casino, but obviously that's not for the players.
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: That's for their parents that come to town to watch
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: them play. But I mean, like you've got everything there
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: that you need to succeed. You're right? What the hell
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: is going on? Mind the scenes?
- 1:12:24Speaker 3: Hey, hockey hockey? This doesn't really It happens a lot
- 1:12:28Speaker 3: in hockey, but not as not as often as like
- 1:12:31Speaker 3: as baseball fans, not as often as baseball, where baseball
- 1:12:34Speaker 3: the first person to get fired a lot of the
- 1:12:36Speaker 3: times after the general manager is the farm director. And
- 1:12:40Speaker 3: I don't know if it's a scouting I like, you
- 1:12:43Speaker 3: don't usually see the scouting overhauled in hockey like you
- 1:12:46Speaker 3: do in other sports like baseball. Football is pretty consistent,
- 1:12:49Speaker 3: like hockey, basketball, it's usually Baseball is probably the most
- 1:12:52Speaker 3: we're the most pressure, but hockey, like, you gotta like
- 1:12:57Speaker 3: these decisions. Like eventually there's got to be a time
- 1:13:00Speaker 3: where you got to eat that, Like you got to
- 1:13:03Speaker 3: eat those decisions. Hey, credits and the nager Ice dogs
- 1:13:05Speaker 3: they can make a decision to save their lives other
- 1:13:07Speaker 3: than make a trade with London. Then all of a
- 1:13:09Speaker 3: sudden they get Frankie Vola in, he makes decisions and boom, right,
- 1:13:14Speaker 3: like now all of a sudden they have a decent deadline.
- 1:13:17Speaker 3: I like up a chromiac wang. Obviously, their teams played
- 1:13:21Speaker 3: like crap in the second half, and I've called am
- 1:13:23Speaker 3: Ice frauds for the last three weeks and they haven't
- 1:13:25Speaker 3: done anything about it, So they're a fraud. But at
- 1:13:28Speaker 3: the same point, at the same point, at least they've
- 1:13:31Speaker 3: started to make competent decisions publicly. I mean, maybe the
- 1:13:35Speaker 3: Penn Center Movie Theater disagrees, but I just think, I'm sorry,
- 1:13:40Speaker 3: I just think I just think.
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: That, well, they're playing the same opponent this year.
- 1:13:45Speaker 3: Oh gosh, at least they're making decisions. So now, at
- 1:13:49Speaker 3: least it feels like there's decisions being made. Where Sarnia,
- 1:13:52Speaker 3: it's like, man, you had this guy in your hands.
- 1:13:56Speaker 3: Van gorp O. Waitchel champion, Evan van gorp you had them.
- 1:14:01Speaker 3: You can't tell me Evan van Gorp up in a
- 1:14:04Speaker 3: big role. Then then the worst comes the worst. You
- 1:14:07Speaker 3: don't make the trade with London this year and you
- 1:14:09Speaker 3: give London a good player. Now they get home ice
- 1:14:13Speaker 3: in the first round. Like I I don't think. Like
- 1:14:17Speaker 3: I said, I like the Fisher trade. Probably asked me
- 1:14:20Speaker 3: that a year from now, as this pattern continues, I'm
- 1:14:22Speaker 3: gonna say it's a horrible trade because look at the
- 1:14:24Speaker 3: last couple of trades here at the Sting. But you
- 1:14:28Speaker 3: let Sinclair get away after he was definitely interested. You
- 1:14:30Speaker 3: signed Sinclair. All of a sudden, you got five new
- 1:14:32Speaker 3: guys that are committed to the NCAA, that are from
- 1:14:35Speaker 3: the BCHL, that could play, and that could play a
- 1:14:38Speaker 3: regular role in your lineup. You sign those guys all
- 1:14:40Speaker 3: of a sudden, you got at least five to ten
- 1:14:43Speaker 3: more players coming May. I'm not even kidding with possibly ten.
- 1:14:47Speaker 3: Then you have a core. Then you have a chance
- 1:14:49Speaker 3: to compete until you make competent decisions. The Sarnia Sting
- 1:14:54Speaker 3: are gonna be in the basement and you gotta make
- 1:14:56Speaker 3: a decision. Ownership here, like new ownership. That's gonna be
- 1:14:59Speaker 3: interesting too. They just got new ownership this past year.
- 1:15:02Speaker 3: That's going to be very interesting to see what their
- 1:15:05Speaker 3: approach is starting now in the offseason, because I think
- 1:15:09Speaker 3: something's going to be done before the draft, no doubt.
- 1:15:11Speaker 3: Being in June, something has to be done before the draft.
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: I can't believe we've just spent eight to ten minutes
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: on the sarniest thing, but we had some laughs.
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: It was okay, yeah, in the draft lottery as well.
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: It's going to be taking place the night of the
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: Ohl Cup on the Wednesday, the fur or whatever next
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: Wednesday is.
- 1:15:32Speaker 3: The uh the first or second April fools.
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: Nope, it's going to be a thing, all right.
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: I know, I'm just joke breaking news on the Ohl
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: and sixty podcast. There you go, there you go, everyone,
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: get ready for it.
- 1:15:48Speaker 3: All right, let's get to the playoffs because we're not
- 1:15:55Speaker 3: surprised you'd have like a lot of six forty nine
- 1:15:57Speaker 3: shirt or something. I mean, Edwins have been in there
- 1:16:00Speaker 3: for the last billion years. They're looking on pace to
- 1:16:03Speaker 3: go back in the lottery this year, but they don't.
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: Have a pick, so sucks. Who what what? Mister fourteen
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: years out of the playoffs.
- 1:16:12Speaker 3: Hey, I'm worried we're gonna join them.
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: But yeah, I mean, hey, at least our Stanley Cup
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: photos in color unlike Toronto. Yeah, so there we go.
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: We have that going for us. We're gonna start with
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: the Western We're gonna start with the Western Conference. Just
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: a few points on each matchup in round number one.
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: So we'll start with the Kitchen Rangers in the Saganaw
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: Spirit Saganaw twenty six, thirty four or four and for
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: the season for a total of sixty points. The Kitchen
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: Rangers forty seven, fourteen, five and two with one hundred
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: and one points. This year they were the Midwest Division champions.
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: Obviously they get the number one overall seed in the
- 1:16:50Speaker 2: Western Conference as well. What are you looking for in
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: this series? Is it easy to say yeah, Kitchener in
- 1:16:57Speaker 2: four or five? Are you looking at something different? And
- 1:17:00Speaker 2: what's your take on it?
- 1:17:02Speaker 3: I think this could go either way. I think that
- 1:17:04Speaker 3: I think this series is gonna go quick in favor
- 1:17:06Speaker 3: of the Rangers. I don't think it's gonna be more
- 1:17:07Speaker 3: than five games. In fact, I have the Rangers in five.
- 1:17:10Speaker 3: But I think that the one thing that's gonna be interesting.
- 1:17:12Speaker 3: I think Saganaw's high scoring offense upfront Clipoff bearra Bandoff
- 1:17:17Speaker 3: can steal a game. Can the goaltending steal a game?
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: Though?
- 1:17:21Speaker 3: On top of the goals because and Ken Kitchener put
- 1:17:25Speaker 3: together four consistent wins where you don't give up multiple
- 1:17:30Speaker 3: multiple goals. Because if you get in to track me,
- 1:17:32Speaker 3: that does not favor the Rangers in this game. In
- 1:17:35Speaker 3: this series, especially as you go to the road City
- 1:17:37Speaker 3: that's when the series starts. I expect the Rangers take
- 1:17:40Speaker 3: the first two games and drop game three, win four
- 1:17:42Speaker 3: and five, and the Rangers are on the second round.
- 1:17:47Speaker 3: I think the depth of the Rangers is stronger. I
- 1:17:49Speaker 3: think that it'll be interesting to see how the Spirit
- 1:17:51Speaker 3: want to match up with that to the best of
- 1:17:53Speaker 3: their abilities. I mean, if you load up one line,
- 1:17:55Speaker 3: well then okay, I'm putting Samuel Riiley line of the
- 1:17:57Speaker 3: Gabe Shuratt line as my shutdown line. With Gabe, you'ret
- 1:18:00Speaker 3: I guess against their top line. I'm letting O'Riley go
- 1:18:02Speaker 3: have a blast and score all the goals he wants
- 1:18:05Speaker 3: and him Edwards continue to build that momentum that we've
- 1:18:09Speaker 3: saw in the regular season translate to the postseason Rangers
- 1:18:11Speaker 3: in five.
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: We all we did run Twitter polls as well before
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: recording the show this week and wanted to get the
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: fans take on who they think would win each playoff matchup. Brandon,
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: we will start with Kitchener and Saganaw. What do the
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: fans have to say?
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: Ninety seven percent Kitchener Rangers.
- 1:18:30Speaker 3: Makes sense.
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: You knit pretty well unanimous that Kitchener is going to
- 1:18:34Speaker 2: take that one. You look at the two to seven matchup,
- 1:18:36Speaker 2: it's the windsor Spitfires in the gwelf Storm. Gwelf Storm
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: finishing the season with a twenty eight to thirty five
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: to two and three record for a total of sixty
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: one points, just ahead of the Saganaw Spirit who finished
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: with sixty The Windsor spit Fires forty four, fifteen, six
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: and three for a total of ninety seven points. Obviously,
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: the gwelf Storm more or less looking forward to next season, however,
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: this is big to get into the postseason, get those
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: young players experience in the playoffs. Albeit the first round
- 1:19:07Speaker 2: is way different than what potentially a third and fourth
- 1:19:11Speaker 2: round could look like next year, what the Memorial Cup
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: tournament will look like next year. But to get their
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: feet wet in the postseason. I think that's the ultimate
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: goal for the gwelf Storm and obviously for the Spitfires. Well,
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: you're going for a championship, two different teams at two
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: stages in the in their organizational development. And is it
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: windsor is it gwelfh are we looking four? Five, six seven?
- 1:19:34Speaker 2: What do you think? Damn it? I just said six seven,
- 1:19:37Speaker 2: that's another fine. I'm up to two now. I oh man, Colin,
- 1:19:41Speaker 2: let's you take on this one. Let's forget. Let's forget.
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: I said that is.
- 1:19:45Speaker 3: The icont I got, I got, I got Wake, No,
- 1:19:51Speaker 3: I got Windsor in five, I don't. Well, special teams
- 1:19:54Speaker 3: really concerns me to the point where I'm literally thinking
- 1:19:57Speaker 3: of Windsor in four. You gotta score on the power play.
- 1:20:00Speaker 3: The power play for gwelf. If you get power play
- 1:20:02Speaker 3: opportunities against a tough winsor team and you don't score
- 1:20:05Speaker 3: on the power play, you ain't winning. I think that
- 1:20:09Speaker 3: the gwelf Storm are in tough here. It's gonna be
- 1:20:11Speaker 3: a great experience for the young players. But you're gonna
- 1:20:15Speaker 3: need Joe Banowski to have a heck of a series
- 1:20:19Speaker 3: and steal you a couple to have a chance, and
- 1:20:21Speaker 3: I don't know if you can steal four games in
- 1:20:22Speaker 3: a series against the windsor Spitfires.
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: I got winsor in five Brandon, what do the fans
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: have to say?
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: N windsor wow high?
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: Yeah? Oh yeah yeah. Next up the Flint Firebirds and
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: Owen Sound Attack. It is a three to six matchup
- 1:20:42Speaker 2: in the Western Conference. Flint Firebirds finishing at forty four seventeen,
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: four and three for a total of ninety five points,
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: the Owen Sound Attack twenty seven, thirty two, four and
- 1:20:52Speaker 2: five for sixty three points on the season. Again, I
- 1:20:56Speaker 2: think two teams that are headed in different directions over
- 1:20:59Speaker 2: the next couple of years. I think Flint has a
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: chance to be to be good again next year. I
- 1:21:04Speaker 2: think the Only Sound Attack have a lot of soul
- 1:21:06Speaker 2: searching to do once this season is over. What what
- 1:21:10Speaker 2: what do you look at for this series? Calling?
- 1:21:13Speaker 3: If Vaccari plays four really good games like he has
- 1:21:17Speaker 3: a regular season Firebrids and four only sweep I have
- 1:21:21Speaker 3: in the Western Conference? Is the Flint fire bridge.
- 1:21:23Speaker 2: Over the all Sound Attack? I owe sound I mean
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: I see two different teams.
- 1:21:29Speaker 3: I see pre deadline and post deadline, and I don't.
- 1:21:34Speaker 3: I don't like what I see right now personally, they
- 1:21:36Speaker 3: don't pass the eye test. Uh, I'm gonna go Flint
- 1:21:40Speaker 3: and four vacary vacari. If he play, if he plays
- 1:21:44Speaker 3: four really good games, if he plays for good games,
- 1:21:48Speaker 3: why wouldn't Flint win him four?
- 1:21:51Speaker 2: Brandon, what do the fans have to say?
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: The fans for this one are Flint Firebirds eighty seven?
- 1:21:58Speaker 3: Wow, so thinking against me kind of before.
- 1:22:02Speaker 2: Mea they're pretty well on the same page, I would say, yeah, true.
- 1:22:10Speaker 2: Next up is the four to five matchup in the
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: Western Conference, the London Nights and the Sue Greyhounds. Just
- 1:22:15Speaker 2: one point separation between the two. London gets home ice
- 1:22:19Speaker 2: the Night's finishing forty twenty three, four and one for
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: eighty five points. That is a rebuilding year for the
- 1:22:25Speaker 2: London Nights. For anyone wondering out there, thirty nine, twenty three,
- 1:22:29Speaker 2: one and five were the Sue Greyhounds at eighty four points.
- 1:22:34Speaker 3: Reche Do you remember one of the first times we
- 1:22:36Speaker 3: ever talked ohl hockey together at ts N eleven fifty
- 1:22:40Speaker 3: one of the comments that I made about the London
- 1:22:42Speaker 3: Knights a year after twenty eighteen.
- 1:22:45Speaker 2: I'm sure I will when you remind me, so.
- 1:22:48Speaker 3: I'll never forget It's a Tuesday morning, and I will
- 1:22:51Speaker 3: never forget this when all I mentioned is and this
- 1:22:56Speaker 3: is I was in college as a Knights fan, and
- 1:22:59Speaker 3: as a year after they got swept in the first round.
- 1:23:02Speaker 3: All one sound and I said, oh, it's nice that
- 1:23:04Speaker 3: the Knights are good this year, and reached many gives
- 1:23:07Speaker 3: me the look.
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: Yeah that was that was winter twenty nineteen, like January
- 1:23:10Speaker 2: February twenty nineteen.
- 1:23:12Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's like, oh, it's so nice that nights
- 1:23:14Speaker 3: are good this year. The look I got it's like
- 1:23:16Speaker 3: this year I was gonna London nights. Why this is
- 1:23:20Speaker 3: never this has never been more true.
- 1:23:23Speaker 2: It was hilarious because you're a Knights fan interning in
- 1:23:27Speaker 2: a Hamilton bulldogs market. At the time, I was also
- 1:23:30Speaker 2: interning uh slash, working with the ice dogs in a
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: Hamilton bulldogs market. So you have the London Knights, which
- 1:23:37Speaker 2: a lot of markets don't like the London Knights. You've
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: got the Niger ice Dogs which looking at twenty twelve
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: and twenty sixteen, that's why they don't like the London Knights.
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: I mean, Hamilton was very grateful for for London for
- 1:23:53Speaker 2: twenty eighteen for Robert Thomas, but then also Connor McMichael
- 1:23:57Speaker 2: the other way. But no, that was just money the
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: way it worked out because I think the first day
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: that you were there, I had my ice dog's hat
- 1:24:04Speaker 2: on because I had to go into the office, and
- 1:24:07Speaker 2: then you had your night's hat on, and we both
- 1:24:09Speaker 2: kind of looked at each other like, hmm, I'm not
- 1:24:13Speaker 2: sure if this is gonna work out or not, and
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: then you know, we're talking baseball. Yeah, the one time
- 1:24:21Speaker 2: I toppd baseball on TSN eleven fifty was with us,
- 1:24:24Speaker 2: so that was funny. But go back to Sue Saint
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: Marie in London? Does it? And and I'll ask you
- 1:24:30Speaker 2: this more of a like kind of how you see
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: this series, but more in the lens of is there
- 1:24:36Speaker 2: an advantage with home ice in this series? Because Budweiser
- 1:24:40Speaker 2: Gardens and GFL Memorial Gardens are two completely different buildings.
- 1:24:45Speaker 2: Do you see the Knights now winning this series because
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: they have home ice despite them technically like a lot
- 1:24:52Speaker 2: of people would view them as the underdog because Sue
- 1:24:55Speaker 2: Saint Marie on paper has a better roster. However, the
- 1:24:58Speaker 2: factor of home ice in London might counter that, So
- 1:25:02Speaker 2: do you view it any different based on who gets
- 1:25:04Speaker 2: oh mice in this series?
- 1:25:07Speaker 3: I think this is the narrow I think this year,
- 1:25:09Speaker 3: the four or five matchup, like plenty years, is the
- 1:25:11Speaker 3: most narrowest. It could be a hgo either way. I
- 1:25:14Speaker 3: think the East is a little bit more decided in
- 1:25:16Speaker 3: the West without a doubt with London too. I know
- 1:25:20Speaker 3: it's playoffs, and when we're in the playoffs we talk
- 1:25:24Speaker 3: about mental things. The Maple Leaps can't get over the
- 1:25:29Speaker 3: Boston Bruins love that memory, you know, like you can't
- 1:25:33Speaker 3: get over certain hunts and New York Flakies, can't get
- 1:25:35Speaker 3: over the Toronto Blue Jays or the Detroit Tigers.
- 1:25:39Speaker 2: I would say the Tigers was one year time.
- 1:25:42Speaker 3: Yeah, there you go, right, like they can't get over
- 1:25:46Speaker 3: the Tigers or the Red Sox sometimes. But this one
- 1:25:50Speaker 3: is for Carter George.
- 1:25:54Speaker 2: Deficit for the Red Sox against the Yankees.
- 1:25:56Speaker 3: Yeah, they came back, right, that's an all timer clip
- 1:26:02Speaker 3: that one with me. I will and you know, I'm
- 1:26:05Speaker 3: just joking. I wish I had twenty seven rs. I'll
- 1:26:08Speaker 3: be going around my head when my head wouldn't even
- 1:26:10Speaker 3: fit in the North America if the Blue Jays had
- 1:26:13Speaker 3: somehow twenty seven wins or rings. But I just think
- 1:26:17Speaker 3: with this, Carter George as what two wins against the
- 1:26:22Speaker 3: London Knights in his career. Mentally, we know that's all
- 1:26:27Speaker 3: about in sports. You see it every year in the postseason.
- 1:26:30Speaker 3: In the postseason, we see this all the time. Like
- 1:26:32Speaker 3: I said, the Leafs can't get over the Boston Bruins.
- 1:26:35Speaker 3: Now the Florida Panthers, Like, is Carter George the Leafs
- 1:26:41Speaker 3: to the London Nights Boston Bruins. We'll find out can
- 1:26:45Speaker 3: you get over that? And I know this could be
- 1:26:48Speaker 3: dumb that I'm saying this, but I saw his record
- 1:26:51Speaker 3: against the London Nights, and I'm thinking, well, you never know,
- 1:26:54Speaker 3: it's a tough arena to play in a Friday night
- 1:26:57Speaker 3: at the.
- 1:26:57Speaker 2: Canada Life Place. I miss saying the Bud.
- 1:26:59Speaker 3: Friday Night at the Bud just sounded better, yeah, or
- 1:27:02Speaker 3: the JLC. But uh, I just think a Friday Sunday,
- 1:27:06Speaker 3: first two games in London, nine thousand strong, Here we go,
- 1:27:11Speaker 3: here we go, and obviously this London team isn't the
- 1:27:13Speaker 3: London team. But I will say this, I think my
- 1:27:17Speaker 3: point five percent out of one hundreds or ninety five
- 1:27:22Speaker 3: percent doesn't. The longer the London Knights can hang around
- 1:27:26Speaker 3: in this series, the more it favors them. And there's
- 1:27:31Speaker 3: one thing I truly believe, and I think we both
- 1:27:35Speaker 3: agree on this, that the Sue Greyhounds will without a
- 1:27:40Speaker 3: doubt get out coached by Dale Hunter in this first round.
- 1:27:43Speaker 3: The coaching I don't, I don't. I don't agree with
- 1:27:46Speaker 3: the Sue philosophy for coaching. And I truly believe Dale
- 1:27:51Speaker 3: Hunter puts something together like he has what every single
- 1:27:54Speaker 3: season he's got to get planned except for that Owen
- 1:27:57Speaker 3: Sound series. Other than that, I truly believe if you
- 1:28:01Speaker 3: let if you let Dale Hunter cook, not Russell Wilson
- 1:28:05Speaker 3: in Denver style, if you let Dale Hunter cook London Nights,
- 1:28:09Speaker 3: You're gonna win this in seven games, because if it
- 1:28:11Speaker 3: goes longer, then Knights win the series.
- 1:28:14Speaker 2: So in other words, if it goes past five, you
- 1:28:17Speaker 2: like the London Knights more than the Sue Greyhounds.
- 1:28:21Speaker 3: Because you look at the high end skill on Suit,
- 1:28:22Speaker 3: you look at the high end skill on Sue, Right Carter, George,
- 1:28:25Speaker 3: Brady Martin. You get them in a series if they
- 1:28:27Speaker 3: fall down. If they go down, one. Oh, go down
- 1:28:31Speaker 3: two to one. Yeah, they go down two to one.
- 1:28:35Speaker 3: We're going seven And that favors the London Knights to
- 1:28:38Speaker 3: a t. The longer the series goes, the more it
- 1:28:40Speaker 3: favors the London Knights. If it's but beyond five games,
- 1:28:44Speaker 3: the London Knights without a doubt or winning this series.
- 1:28:46Speaker 2: On Brandon, What are the fans saying this?
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: There's a shocker here, all right, Sue Greyhounds sixty six percent,
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: London thirty four.
- 1:28:56Speaker 3: Those are all those haters, you know what.
- 1:28:57Speaker 2: I'm not really surprised about that, to be honest. Yeah,
- 1:29:00Speaker 2: I think Sue's favored in this one. But I also
- 1:29:04Speaker 2: I also understand the logic of well, yeah, you get
- 1:29:08Speaker 2: six or seven and then you know, potentially a seventh
- 1:29:10Speaker 2: you're forced to go into into c LP. Yeah that
- 1:29:14Speaker 2: doesn't sound the same play against the London Nights. Like again,
- 1:29:19Speaker 2: you're right, it's all mental. Like again, on paper, Sue
- 1:29:22Speaker 2: Greyhounds are a better team. But if they get in
- 1:29:24Speaker 2: their own heads and and they get intimidated by the butt,
- 1:29:27Speaker 2: and and and and I don't expect that to be
- 1:29:30Speaker 2: the case for top guys like Martin, like like read
- 1:29:32Speaker 2: like like yeah, so but yeah, it wasn't awesome. But also, yeah,
- 1:29:44Speaker 2: we talked about that at Christmas.
- 1:29:45Speaker 3: But who do you say? Who do you say?
- 1:29:48Speaker 2: Man, I'm on your side. If it's four or five,
- 1:29:51Speaker 2: I don't think it'll be four. But if it's four
- 1:29:52Speaker 2: or five, I'm going sue you're right. But if it's longer,
- 1:29:55Speaker 2: if they get into a game seven, it's London. I
- 1:29:57Speaker 2: think London wins Game seven.
- 1:29:58Speaker 3: I agree.
- 1:29:59Speaker 2: I six is a toss up, but obviously it depends
- 1:30:02Speaker 2: on who's leading this series. But if it's seven games,
- 1:30:06Speaker 2: I'm I'm taking London all day too.
- 1:30:08Speaker 3: I say London and seven tunes. It's the only game
- 1:30:10Speaker 3: seven I have. I think this round this Yeah.
- 1:30:15Speaker 2: I've got a couple. Actually we'll get to that in
- 1:30:18Speaker 2: just a second, so we'll switch to the Eastern Conference
- 1:30:21Speaker 2: one versus eight? It is the Hamlet or damn it?
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: That's three man?
- 1:30:31Speaker 2: I owe what is it? Twenty five cents of fine?
- 1:30:35Speaker 2: I'll buy the first round of ginger Rales next time
- 1:30:36Speaker 2: we go out. How about that?
- 1:30:38Speaker 3: Take that?
- 1:30:39Speaker 2: That's that's that's three drinks. I got you, guys. The
- 1:30:42Speaker 2: Branford Bulldogs take on the Sudbury Wolves. Sudbury Wolves finishing
- 1:30:45Speaker 2: with a twenty seven thirty nine to two and oh
- 1:30:48Speaker 2: record for a total of fifty six points. The Branford
- 1:30:51Speaker 2: Bulldogs forty eight ten eight and two just one regulation
- 1:30:56Speaker 2: win or overtime or shootout loss away from being the
- 1:31:00Speaker 2: first team to have single digit regulation losses since the
- 1:31:05Speaker 2: best team in HL history, the twenty four two thousand
- 1:31:08Speaker 2: and five London Nights. So obviously we saw the lineup
- 1:31:12Speaker 2: they played on on Sunday in Brampton. It was nowhere
- 1:31:15Speaker 2: near a playoff roster. No, but uh, some of those
- 1:31:22Speaker 2: names out of the lineup. Yeah, that is not the
- 1:31:25Speaker 2: lineup you're gonna see on Friday night. But uh, the
- 1:31:27Speaker 2: one versus eight matchup in this one similar to what
- 1:31:32Speaker 2: you see with kitchen Er saganaw Colling. Do you think
- 1:31:34Speaker 2: it'll be shorter? Do you think it could be longer?
- 1:31:36Speaker 2: What do you think?
- 1:31:38Speaker 3: I I honestly think if Sudbury takes penalties Branford and four,
- 1:31:44Speaker 3: it's not even close. You can't give this Bulldogs team
- 1:31:46Speaker 3: a power play, power play after power player, you're gonna lose.
- 1:31:49Speaker 2: So is there a number per game, like if Sudbury
- 1:31:52Speaker 2: takes three.
- 1:31:54Speaker 3: Well, you look at the game in this week if
- 1:31:56Speaker 3: you take three power plays, there's a free goal you're
- 1:32:00Speaker 3: giving the Bulldogs. If you give him three power play,
- 1:32:02Speaker 3: they're for sure gonna go one for three. They never
- 1:32:04Speaker 3: go for.
- 1:32:04Speaker 2: Three, which that that's what they were in the regular season.
- 1:32:07Speaker 2: So yeah, makes sense. I think so.
- 1:32:10Speaker 3: I think you can't get penalty, you can't give freebies.
- 1:32:14Speaker 3: You can't give freebies, so you can't get frustrated. I
- 1:32:19Speaker 3: think that's gonna be tough in this series. I'm gonna
- 1:32:21Speaker 3: say Branford in four or five, Jellachanko being backs huge. Uh,
- 1:32:28Speaker 3: it's gonna be interesting. I expect to see this Bulldog
- 1:32:30Speaker 3: team to really let it all out here. But it talks.
- 1:32:35Speaker 3: I mean, it's like there's been a lot of hiding
- 1:32:37Speaker 3: this year for their ten losses in regulation. They've hit
- 1:32:40Speaker 3: a lot system wise this year, and I expect them.
- 1:32:43Speaker 3: I expect them to show a little bit here in
- 1:32:45Speaker 3: this first round with the Sudbury Wolves, and I think that
- 1:32:47Speaker 3: you look at the Kerns matchup. They signed Kerns in Sudbury.
- 1:32:50Speaker 3: He's a little tougher guy. He's a big tough guy
- 1:32:53Speaker 3: in the back end. College commit, He's played thirteen games
- 1:32:56Speaker 3: regular season m HM that's fine and dandy. If it's
- 1:32:59Speaker 3: gonna be a tough, physical series, you know, look for it.
- 1:33:03Speaker 3: But you gotta remember Branford as Ryder Bolton that cancels out.
- 1:33:07Speaker 3: I think that that gets rid of any worry about
- 1:33:09Speaker 3: anything exactly to your stars, like it happened, exactly exactly.
- 1:33:14Speaker 3: That's why I think that the Bulldogs in all aspects
- 1:33:17Speaker 3: of the better team four or five games, Branford, Brandon.
- 1:33:20Speaker 2: What are the fans saying?
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: Do you really want to know?
- 1:33:25Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: Why Why wouldn't I want to know?
- 1:33:31Speaker 2: I thought you were gonna say people voted for Sudbury.
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: Well percent of people did.
- 1:33:36Speaker 2: That's unfortunate.
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: Probably no three of them on the opposing broadcast.
- 1:33:44Speaker 3: That'll be fun.
- 1:33:45Speaker 2: Oh yeah, no, I'm not gonna say anything. I'll get
- 1:33:48Speaker 2: in trouble. H. The two seven matchup in the Eastern
- 1:33:51Speaker 2: Conference is a rematch of last year the Barry Colts
- 1:33:55Speaker 2: against the Niagara Movie I mean Ice Dogs. Barry Colts
- 1:34:00Speaker 2: and is forty five, fourteen to five and four on
- 1:34:02Speaker 2: the season for a total of ninety nine points. The
- 1:34:04Speaker 2: Ice Dogs at thirty two, thirty four and two for
- 1:34:07Speaker 2: a total of seventy points. These two teams did meet
- 1:34:10Speaker 2: on the weekend. It was a fairly regular Barry Colts lineup,
- 1:34:16Speaker 2: I would say, compared to an Ice Dog's team that
- 1:34:19Speaker 2: was not looking normal. Now, we are not one hundred
- 1:34:25Speaker 2: percent sure on the status of Ryan Robert for this
- 1:34:27Speaker 2: one unless you have an update for us, Brandon, I
- 1:34:30Speaker 2: do not. Okay, so again, he hadn't he hasn't played
- 1:34:33Speaker 2: in a month? About that something like that, Yeah, a
- 1:34:38Speaker 2: little bit more. Uh, Kayshawn Ahison, we expect a two
- 1:34:41Speaker 2: game suspension to be announced for him exceeding the fighting limit,
- 1:34:45Speaker 2: so expect him out for games one and two. Does
- 1:34:48Speaker 2: this series go any differently than it did last year? Colin, No,
- 1:34:52Speaker 2: it does not. Like do you think I think it's longer?
- 1:34:55Speaker 2: Think it's the same year.
- 1:34:56Speaker 3: Malanka look pretty good on Saturday Night. I really thought
- 1:35:00Speaker 3: that was a very dumb incident at a kash On Ahison.
- 1:35:04Speaker 3: I did not like that at all. Edicash On, just
- 1:35:07Speaker 3: because you're better than that, know this, know the situation.
- 1:35:11Speaker 3: I know BC. You sent us a couple of messages
- 1:35:13Speaker 3: on the play and like it's a dull It's it's
- 1:35:16Speaker 3: just not smart. It's not an educated decision in a
- 1:35:19Speaker 3: time where you got to make an education educated decision.
- 1:35:23Speaker 3: With the playoffs on the line, you cannot afford to
- 1:35:25Speaker 3: do that.
- 1:35:25Speaker 2: Well. That they also couldn't move up or down they
- 1:35:28Speaker 2: were locked into they had already lost the conference playing
- 1:35:31Speaker 2: vision true. Yeah, good point. I wondered that also, why are.
- 1:35:35Speaker 3: They playing like? You know who they're playing? So the
- 1:35:38Speaker 3: Berry Cults, to me, showed the nag or Ice Dogs
- 1:35:41Speaker 3: a little bit more system stuff. I don't think Barry's
- 1:35:43Speaker 3: hid much throughout the year. When you watch them against
- 1:35:47Speaker 3: the twentieth ranked team or the first ranked team, they
- 1:35:49Speaker 3: looked the exact same system wise, So I don't think
- 1:35:51Speaker 3: they really hit it hid much. But I think that
- 1:35:55Speaker 3: Perry Cult will win in five. I think the Ice
- 1:35:57Speaker 3: Dogs will win one, and I think it'll be one
- 1:35:59Speaker 3: of the first two in Barry. Somehow they're gonna steal
- 1:36:02Speaker 3: one in Barry lose.
- 1:36:03Speaker 2: At home, all right, Brandon, what are the fans saying?
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: Ninety for the Barry Colts checks out?
- 1:36:14Speaker 2: Uh? Now? The three verse six matchup in the Eastern Conference,
- 1:36:17Speaker 2: the Ottawa sixty sevens and the Kingston front Nacts. First
- 1:36:21Speaker 2: time in a while, these two teams will hook up
- 1:36:22Speaker 2: in the postseason, which geographically yeah, they're thrilled, no kidding, uh,
- 1:36:28Speaker 2: Ottawa forty seven, fifteen, three and three for a total
- 1:36:31Speaker 2: of one hundred points. Kingston front n Acts thirty three,
- 1:36:34Speaker 2: thirty three and two for a total of seventy one calling.
- 1:36:38Speaker 2: You're a big fan of Troy manns system, the way
- 1:36:40Speaker 2: they play. We went on at lengths chatting about Ottawa's
- 1:36:44Speaker 2: goaltending earlier on in this in the show, who do
- 1:36:48Speaker 2: you like? How long do you think it'll be?
- 1:36:51Speaker 3: And I'm intrigued to see how Kingston approaches this series
- 1:36:56Speaker 3: because no, no doubt if Ottawa, if Ottawa plays their game,
- 1:37:00Speaker 3: they'll win quick. But Kitchener or Kingston, sorry, wow, there
- 1:37:05Speaker 3: we go. Kingston. We've we've saw so many different approaches
- 1:37:10Speaker 3: to them this year. We saw them be lights out
- 1:37:12Speaker 3: one night, then we've saw them be really bad some games.
- 1:37:17Speaker 3: If the Kingston front Nacks can can stick to the system,
- 1:37:21Speaker 3: can uh play that Troy man hockey? I think this
- 1:37:24Speaker 3: goes six, I really do. I also believe that the
- 1:37:27Speaker 3: Ottawa sixty sevens may have I truly believe in this
- 1:37:32Speaker 3: series we see both goalies play in the series. For
- 1:37:37Speaker 3: the Ottawa sixty sevens, I truly believe both series.
- 1:37:40Speaker 2: Both I could see honestly, even Kingston.
- 1:37:42Speaker 3: Even Kingston bets and Minchak like even both teams, I
- 1:37:47Speaker 3: can see both. I could see all four goalies getting
- 1:37:49Speaker 3: into this series. In this one, I think Ottawa goes
- 1:37:52Speaker 3: up early and I think Kingston wins one on the road,
- 1:37:55Speaker 3: one at home, losing six games at home.
- 1:37:59Speaker 2: Brandon, what are the face and saying Ottawa sixty percent?
- 1:38:06Speaker 2: Now the four to five matchup in the Eastern Conference.
- 1:38:08Speaker 2: To wrap things up, it is the Peterborough Pete's getting
- 1:38:10Speaker 2: home icee advantage on the North Bay Battalion. Pete went
- 1:38:14Speaker 2: forty twenty four to one and three for a total
- 1:38:16Speaker 2: of eighty four points in North Bay Battalion thirty eight
- 1:38:19Speaker 2: twenty six, three and one. This is my other series.
- 1:38:22Speaker 2: I think it's gonna go seven games. I think North
- 1:38:25Speaker 2: Bay is gonna win this series. I think it'll be
- 1:38:28Speaker 2: that'll be night That'll be nightmare travel for Branford. By
- 1:38:31Speaker 2: the way, starting off with Sudbury and then you get
- 1:38:33Speaker 2: North Bay next, that's a tough travel first two rounds.
- 1:38:38Speaker 2: Uh Yeah, I'm going with North Bay in this one.
- 1:38:41Speaker 2: In seven games. I think it's gonna be a really
- 1:38:44Speaker 2: entertaining series. I think Mike McIver coming back and you know,
- 1:38:49Speaker 2: getting getting some reps in before the end of the
- 1:38:51Speaker 2: regular season is huge to get those games in. Now.
- 1:38:56Speaker 2: Was North Bay batt while he was out, No, they
- 1:38:59Speaker 2: they they played really well actually and put them into
- 1:39:02Speaker 2: put themselves in a position to be in contention for
- 1:39:05Speaker 2: home ice in the last week of the regular season.
- 1:39:08Speaker 2: But I think that just adds something. But you know,
- 1:39:11Speaker 2: Eastern Rye, let's let's see. Sure the regular season was
- 1:39:14Speaker 2: a nice, uh nice way to to to play and
- 1:39:18Speaker 2: how well he did and and setting the record, but
- 1:39:21Speaker 2: now it's time to really show up in the playoffs.
- 1:39:23Speaker 2: So I think that'll be that'll be an interesting matchup
- 1:39:25Speaker 2: and goal But but what do you have for this one?
- 1:39:27Speaker 3: Colin No, I agree as a goaltender, I love I
- 1:39:31Speaker 3: love this series for goalies Mackaiver versus Rye. That's unbelievable
- 1:39:36Speaker 3: for the that's unbelievable for goalies in the OHL. And
- 1:39:39Speaker 3: I truly think that the North Bay Battalion win this series.
- 1:39:41Speaker 3: I think that the Peterborough Peats and I think I
- 1:39:45Speaker 3: like the discipline from the staff in the team of
- 1:39:49Speaker 3: North Bay. Ryan Olahan and staff do a great job there,
- 1:39:54Speaker 3: and I think that the Peats you see two different
- 1:39:57Speaker 3: teams too many times. You see a high flying, highly
- 1:40:00Speaker 3: old team one night where they look really good, but
- 1:40:02Speaker 3: then you see another night where it's like a UFC
- 1:40:05Speaker 3: fight and it's like, what are we doing here? So
- 1:40:08Speaker 3: the ice it's an ice rink with square corners, not
- 1:40:10Speaker 3: an octagon.
- 1:40:11Speaker 2: Well, and one thing I'll I'll point out to your
- 1:40:15Speaker 2: point as well. Peterborough better on the power play twenty
- 1:40:19Speaker 2: two point nine compared to twenty one point five, better
- 1:40:22Speaker 2: on the penalty kill eighty point nine compared to seventy
- 1:40:24Speaker 2: five percent. However, seven hundred and thirty four penalty minutes
- 1:40:28Speaker 2: for the battalion, eight hundred and sixty five for the Petz.
- 1:40:32Speaker 2: That's the thing that will that will play a huge
- 1:40:35Speaker 2: role in this series, big time.
- 1:40:37Speaker 3: No, absolutely, and that's what I look at. If it
- 1:40:40Speaker 3: depends what Pet's team, that's why I have it going
- 1:40:42Speaker 3: seven to where it can go anyway possible, and they'll
- 1:40:44Speaker 3: give credit to the Pietz. It's gonna be a series.
- 1:40:46Speaker 3: And honestly, when we say seven games, it can go
- 1:40:48Speaker 3: either way at that rate. And I think that the
- 1:40:51Speaker 3: I agree, I think North Pay Battalion win in seven.
- 1:40:55Speaker 3: I think mcivery is going to be exceptional after what
- 1:40:57Speaker 3: we saw last postseason. I think you RAI is going
- 1:41:00Speaker 3: to be exceptional. I think these are going to be
- 1:41:02Speaker 3: low scoring games, physical games, and I think this is
- 1:41:06Speaker 3: gonna be a fun one. I think it's gonna be
- 1:41:07Speaker 3: Western Conference hockey in the East. I cannot wait. I
- 1:41:10Speaker 3: cannot wait. Get your tickets. I mean Thursday, Friday, Sunday,
- 1:41:14Speaker 3: the first three games. That's pretty good. That's a I
- 1:41:17Speaker 3: mean three games over with right away. Like, I think
- 1:41:20Speaker 3: it's gonna be a blast. Get your tickets because these
- 1:41:22Speaker 3: are going to be a heck of a hockey games.
- 1:41:25Speaker 2: Yeah. North Bay also scoring more goals than Peterborough to
- 1:41:28Speaker 2: thirty seven, not a lot, two thirty seven to two
- 1:41:31Speaker 2: thirty five. Also giving up less two hundred and fifteen
- 1:41:34Speaker 2: goals against for North Bay two hundred and thirty one
- 1:41:37Speaker 2: for for Peterborough. So we'll see, it'll be really fun.
- 1:41:41Speaker 2: I'm really excited for this one, Brandon, are the what
- 1:41:43Speaker 2: are the fans saying for this matchup? I feel like
- 1:41:45Speaker 2: this is gonna be our closest one.
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: It's really close right now. North Bay fifty four, Peterborough
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: forty six, I will see. Don't count out Jack Listen either, guys,
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: he's played forty games this year.
- 1:41:56Speaker 3: H No, I agree, I think he'll get in. I
- 1:41:58Speaker 3: think Listen will get in. Listen a big part of
- 1:42:00Speaker 3: the reason why they were in where they are in
- 1:42:02Speaker 3: the standards. I mean, he stepped up when MacIvor went down.
- 1:42:05Speaker 2: Absolutely. Yeah, no, I'm really looking forward to that. So again,
- 1:42:09Speaker 2: there's your matchups for round number one in the OHL Playoffs.
