2:55
Let me welcome into the show, good friend, Johnny Rutherford Metro nine
3:00
one one, Good morning, sir, how are you, Good morning,
3:01
Dave. Thanks for having me appreciate it. I'm never gonna get to hear
3:04
the end of the story because if you've been listening, we've been talking about
3:07
all the remodeling that we're doing around here, and it kind of looks like
3:10
somebody said, looks like a low storage room in here now, because we've
3:13
got all these giant boxes and all this stuff in here, and they're moving
3:17
us all around, and you know, all kinds of weird things are going
3:21
to be happening over the next couple of months. But John and I were
3:24
talking off the air, and he tried to tell me a story three different
3:28
times, and I keep having to say, hold on, hold on,
3:29
hold on, we got to do this, we got to do this.
3:30
But you've been bottom line is, John, you've been coming to the studio
3:32
for a long time. I have been coming to the studio for a long
3:35
time, over about thirty five years ago, and one of my best friends,
3:38
Roger Lyons was the assignment editor for Channel eight TV, and I started
3:42
coming here back in the Mary Sue Jackson and Roger lines and all those guys
3:46
work here. So it's very familiar to me. And that's when WCCHS radio
3:50
and television were together. People still think that we are. We still take
3:53
about thirty phone calls a day for Kenny Bassaw's right, and then we have
3:55
to tell him he's he's not part of us. That's a totally, totally
3:59
different company. Now, you got another pickleball event coming up that you're really
4:03
excited about. I want to get into that a little bit later on,
4:05
but I want to ask you about last year's event. Now, you shared
4:10
some numbers with me about the pickleball tournament that you guys in Metro nine one
4:14
one sponsors at. Last year you had it was like what two hundred and
4:18
some odd players last year, eleven different states represented. Yeah, we're very
4:23
lucky. We have the Charleston Pickleball Club, the City of Nitro and Metro
4:27
nine to one one and we had we had thirty four players ranging in age
4:31
from eighteen to seventy, skill levels from beginner to pro almost you know,
4:36
semi pro and it was eleven states. We had people in RVs. It
4:41
was It's just it was just a great experience. And I love the fact
4:44
that if I get time. There was a big announcement totally unrelated to you
4:47
guys, but it came out of Clinton and yesterday about this this new bicycle
4:51
facility that they're put this mountain bikes facility, two million dollar facility that they're
4:56
putting in Clinton. And the governor was there and several other elected officials,
4:59
Canno ant commissioners were there as well. And I say that to say this,
5:04
John, It's just I love what's going on in West Virginia right now,
5:09
you know, with all of these different different things. And I mean
5:12
talking to commissioners Slango out at Shawnee a couple of weeks ago, the week
5:16
of the storms, by the way, the weeks of the tornadoes we had
5:18
here, we had something. I think there was thirty two different teams that
5:24
came out for an event out there from not only the US, but Canada.
5:30
And all those people eat in restaurants and all those people sleep in hotels.
5:34
That's that's the beauty of these things. And the Kanau Valley, John
5:40
is becoming a mecca for a lot of these things, including pickleball. You
5:44
know, that's what's great about Kanda of Valley. We all work together.
5:46
There's no jealousies pickleball for an example. We have great courts in South Charleston.
5:50
We have Shawnee, the Shawnee Complex, we have Nitro and then all
5:55
the other Tornado where they're puting the trails in what you just said in Clintona.
5:59
Everybody's working together and everything's growing and it's really exciting for the sports community.
6:02
All right, so let's talk about the next one. It's coming up
6:04
in July, but we want to talk about it early. Why well,
6:09
we like to just advertise it out because number one, the Charleston Pickleball Club
6:13
and Metro nine one. This is great for the community. It's interesting.
6:16
It's grown so much the last few years that people get together. It's very
6:20
social. It brings the community together. The reason we have the tournament and
6:26
the reason it's started is to promote pickleball. But the main thing is it's
6:29
called serving for Safety. Metro nine one one and the funds for these tournaments
6:32
pay for the tournament, but after that it helps our Metro nine one one
6:35
employees who we'd like to pay more, but we can't pay them as much
6:40
as they deserve. And any money that's extra over these we use to reward
6:44
our employees. For an example, if you do a CPR, if you
6:46
call me in and your loved one is in distress and we give CPR instructions
6:51
and we help keep that personal liive un till the animals gets there. This
6:56
money here is used to buy a gift card for our employees to reward them
6:59
for doing a great job. Because we do a lot of you know,
7:02
reviewing calls to make sure we do a good job, and a lot of
7:04
this money's used to reward our employees. Okay, well let's go to again.
7:08
We're talking with John Rather for a metro nine to one one to day
7:11
Island showing five ad The line brids you apart by General Hardware of Windfield and
7:14
Milton and General Number of Windfield. If you're planning the project this spring,
7:16
please remember to always shop locally. Visit General Hardware WV dot com. John,
7:21
what is it that makes the sport so popular? Have you been on
7:25
talking about it? And I know you're a big proponent of but what makes
7:27
it? What makes this so so popular? Across the country. But what's
7:32
great about pickleball ismber Like and I said, Number one, it doesn't matter
7:35
if you're a lady or a gentleman that's five to two or six to one
7:41
hundred pounds orw hundred pounds. The skill level really doesn't matter. The size
7:44
doesn't matter. And it's great for the community because pickleball is very social.
7:50
It's very social, you meet people. It brings communities together. And like
7:54
I said, the Pickleball Association you're in Charleston, we are up to around
7:57
three hundred people now and it just keeps growing day and we invite people to
8:01
go to the Charleston Pickleball Club Facebook page and just keep doing it. It
8:05
just kind of brings the commune together and gets everybody to work together to sort
8:07
a common goal of having a great community. So briefly explain the rules.
8:13
A pickleball to us, souocker ball is a combination of tennis and ping pong.
8:16
It's on a court a little bit smaller than tennis. You play with
8:20
a plastic ball and a paddle a little bit smaller than that, and it's
8:24
pretty much a volley and rally game. But like I said, the great
8:28
thing about it doesn't matter your stature. You can be confetitive against anyone.
8:31
It's great. And in the tournament we do, we do from beginners to
8:37
the very experience and very skilled players. So I know we talked about the
8:39
success of last year's tournament, John, I mean, you had two hundred
8:43
players, eleven different states representatives. You said, people coming in from RV
8:46
on RV's and everything else. I know, this year, you want to
8:48
make it bigger, better, stronger, faster. We've done well, we're
8:52
growing. We actually have Ohio Valley Bank As came on board and we're offering
8:58
up at fifteen thousand dollars cash person year. And what we're doing is we're
9:01
recruiting players from South Carolina, from Ohio and everybody to come in the best
9:05
players in the country. So it'll be even if you don't play pickleball,
9:07
it'll be an event in July that people want to come watch because it'll be
9:11
some of the best players in the country playing. I mean, so even
9:13
for the there's a lot in this for the fans if you just want to
9:16
come out and check it out or maybe maybe watch some people that are really
9:18
really good at this. And it's kind of like with golf, you know,
9:22
sometimes you can learn by watching what I want to do. If I
9:26
want to I want to get better at my game, I want to watch
9:28
these guys. Yeah, I mean that if you've never played, come out
9:31
and watch it. And then I'm excited. I've been playing for years and
9:33
I'm excited to see the best ones play and just watch how skilled they are.
9:37
When did this just become a thing, because there was, like,
9:39
you know, I don't know, ten fifteen years ago, I started to
9:41
hear about pickleball, and I'm like, what the heck is pickleball? I
9:43
mean, how long has the sport been around? You know, it's been
9:46
around ten or fifteen years. Like you say, I used to hear rumors.
9:50
I used to listen to the show Wants to See It just radio with
9:52
Donnelan and Bob Prewitt talking. They would talk about during the wintertime going to
9:56
Florida and playing pickleball, and I thought, what's that? And it's slowly
10:00
developed here in the valley and it's it's growing, and it's not I would
10:03
imagine it's not maybe, and you can correct me if I'm wrong, John,
10:05
I would imagine it's not a very expensive sport compared to other sports.
10:09
I mean it could be, right, but I mean you're probably gonna spend
10:13
less on equipment here than you are for let's say golf or something. Right,
10:16
Yeah, it's it's a regular, relatively inexpensive sport. You can buy
10:20
a paddle for twenty dollars or just like with a golf you can go all
10:24
out to you, right, and there's two hundred fifty dollars paddles, so
10:26
you know it's where you want to be. But it's to get started and
10:28
to play. It's free to play on all the courts, on most courts,
10:31
and the and the starting equipment is very inexpensive. All right, give
10:35
us the details and where can people learn more? Because I'm gonna have you
10:37
on a course a couple of times because the tournament itself is not going to
10:41
be till the month of July, but we're kind of putting getting it out
10:43
there early. Right now, Where can people learn more? And are you
10:46
in need of Sponsors's probably the need of sponsors. We like, say the
10:50
funds go towards the tournament and the plus the support Metro now on staff,
10:54
and you know, we we did three We did a couple thousand dollars to
10:56
the Animal Shelter Human Siety a couple weeks. It's how the money to help
11:01
them. But yeah, the tournament's July eleventh through July fourteenth at the Nitro
11:05
Complex, which by the way, just got a big grant to put a
11:07
roof on their facilities, so when we play year round, it'll be serving
11:11
for safety pickleball tournament with nine Metro nine one one. Go to pickleball brackets
11:16
dot com pickleball brackets dot com to sign up and you can always call the
11:20
non emergency number at Metro and get a hold of me at three zero four
11:24
seven four six seven nine one one. And you know, one of the
11:28
big things if you've got just second, July twelfth is our Community Night again
11:33
the term it's from the eleventh to fourteenth, the July twelfth Communit Night City
11:37
and Nitro working with us with the mayor. We get free swimming, we
11:41
get free pickleball, we get live music, and we're going to have a
11:45
lot of vendors out there just selling things and just a police departments, fire
11:50
departments there showing their equipment everything. So we're excited about that again. Also,
11:54
of course the pickle eating contest, the pickle eading content. Are you
11:56
on that, Jeff Jeff's are you a pickle leader? Did you tell me
12:00
you were an anti pickle person or I'm getting you mixed up with somebody else.
12:03
Yeah, I'm not a fan of pickles. He's not a fan of
12:05
pickles. So can't get Hollywood jeff In on that. But some of us
12:07
around here, that sounds like it's got my man, Steve, animal or
12:09
robbery or written all over to either one of those guys. We were concerned
12:13
last year because the first few weeks we could we had we have volunteers for
12:16
the Canadian contest, but before it was over we had over twenty people vuing.
12:20
So how many pickles did the winner? Twelve pickles and ten minutes.
12:22
And they're big pickles. Twelve pickles and ten Why I think everybody thinks they
12:26
can do that till they try it. Yeah, yeah, all right,
12:30
so I'll help me have to consider that, all right, John. I
12:33
appreciate you being Here's always my friend. Take it easy, I know with
12:35
the folks at nine one one. It's been a rough couple of weeks.
12:37
It's been busy with the tornadoes and storms, but we're very proud of our
12:41

17:03
about high school sports, say over the last year or so for the transfer
17:07
rules on down and maybe add this to it, some schools are now finding
17:12
themselves reclassified. Garret Burdette is a vice principal and a former athletic director at
17:18
Nitra High School, and he joins us now to talk about it. Mister
17:19
Burdette, good morning, welcome to the show. Good morning. Thanks for
17:22
having me. And I'm gonna call you mister Burdette because of your title,
17:25
because even though I'm much much older than you, you're a school official.
17:27
You'll always be mister just so you know, mister Burdett. All right,
17:30
I'll take it. I probably would have been somebody would have been in your
17:33
office at one point, just so you know. I doubt that. And
17:37
I will say he told me what the shows. He's really suffering with some
17:40
vocal issues this morning. He's kind of got that Bonnie Tyler total eclipse of
17:42
the heart thing going on this morning. But I appreciate you sucking up and
17:45
being here today. Man, I appreciate so exactly what has happened here and
17:49
what has caused you and some others to be upset. Give us the whole
17:52
story. So, come to find out, the SSAC did the reclassification,
18:00
and you know, in the four class system for four classes, our basketball
18:06
team ended up three eight. Now, this is Nicer high school. This
18:07
is night your high school. Yes, And then in smaller sports, which
18:11
is where we are having our issues, they also put us as a three
18:17
A school and so now we are stuck in a position where we're competing against
18:22
schools with sixteen hundred students and we have eight hundred. We are in a
18:29
region with Capital, Midland, Hurricane, Parkersburg, Parkersburg South, and our
18:36
main questions are about where is this competitive balance that they talk about. They
18:41
won us in the four class system, we were deemed that we cannot be
18:45
competitive with the big schools. Now, all of a sudden, in our
18:49
sports that are not as well equipped as our main sports, we are deemed
18:56
that we are able to compete with the biggest schools in the state. And
19:00
that's where our questions are. Unfortunately, we're not feeling they're being answered,
19:04
and that's where our issues lie. And of course, you know, your
19:08
concern obviously is because you're individual with Nitral High School, but other schools are
19:12
impacted by this as well. Yeah, there's seven seven schools in total I
19:17
believe that are impacted by this. That in the four class system they are
19:21
three A, and then now in the smaller sports three class system they are
19:26
moved up to the biggest class, and we've been in contact with those schools.
19:29
We're working with those schools to try to come up with some form of
19:33
a proposal to the SSAC to see if there's any way for us to drop
19:37
down where we should be competitively. And we're being told that there is no
19:42
appeals process in the small three sport system, but there is in the fourth
19:48
class system, which is where we're confused. Okay, it's going to say
19:52
so why I mean, and by the way, I will make time for
19:55
anybody from the s SAC that wants to come on the show to explain it,
19:59
you know, I mean, I like the interest of fairness, I
20:00
would be glad to do that. But so, so, how do they
20:04
arrive at this? I mean, for those who may not, I assume
20:07
everybody's a sports fan. Sometimes that's that's an incorrect, incorrect presumption on my
20:12
part. How they how do they arrive at these reclassifications or the classifications to
20:18
begin with. Maybe that's a good place to start. Yeah, So they
20:21
for the four class system, there is a formula that they use to rank
20:26
everybody in on a spreadsheet. They put you a lot on a spreadsheet.
20:30
They use formulas, economics score, location score, and so they come up
20:34
with everyone's score and they have a competitive balance meeting to draw the lines to
20:41
figure out how many schools they feel would be. Now who sits in on
20:44
these meetings? I mean they have a they have a competitive balance committee,
20:48
and then the board of directors also sets in on this. So they do
20:52
all this for the four class system. And then three weeks ago, two
20:59
a month ago, we all get an email that says the small sports which
21:03
is three class system, three state tournaments. Uh, these are where you're
21:07
going to be, These are your regions, these are your sections. And
21:11
we wanted we asked if you know who met to come up with these,
21:15
who drew the lines, who said this is balanced? And according to what
21:21
I have received, the four members of the s SAC are the ones that
21:26
drew the lines. There was no competitive balance team meeting, no Board of
21:30
directors met on it, and so they went through and drew the line where
21:37
they felt that the line needed to be drawn to try to make it in
21:40
their mind balanced. There was not a bigger committee as is set up through
21:45
our rules. Talking to Garabridad again as vice vice principal and a former athletic

22:12
So again, Garrett, I guess I'm trying to wrap my head around
22:15
this. You're telling me that there is in effect no appeals process that you
22:19
can't say, hey, we're not happy with this. How do we how
22:25
do we how do we have our voices heard? And that's the main thing
22:27
that is frustration to us and Nitro and the other schools that have been deemed
22:33
to be competitive in the smaller sports is in four class system. There is
22:37
an appeal process. It is my understanding they had thirty two schools that did
22:41
not agree with their position in the four class system and they were able to
22:45
go to appeals process. The smaller sports classification came out through three weeks to
22:51
a month ago. We have been in contact with the ssa C to ask
22:55
how do we afoul our appeal and there is no appeal process that cannot We
23:00
don't feel like that can be a way forward if you have the ability to
23:06
appeal for four classes, but you don't have the ability to appeal for our
23:10
smaller sports, which again, smaller sports are the backbone of a school.
23:15
All right, these are your students that and when you say smaller sports,
23:18
to find them. UA, let's talk about the smaller sports. So your
23:22
smaller sports are going to be your cross country teams, your soccer teams,
23:27
you're wrestling, you're swimming, and some of those sports I completely understand.
23:32
Golf there might be or swimming. Let's take swimming. There might be thirty
23:37
teams in the entire state that have a swimming team. So of course there's
23:41
only going to be one state tournament. I completely understand that. But some
23:45
like soccer that you're looking at ninety two teams, we can have four state
23:48
tournaments for those for that sport and break it up fairly among everyone to give
23:53
everybody the opportunity. We've seen what the four class system has done for basketball.
23:57
We've seen teams in Charles them that have not been here ever, and
24:00
they've had the opportunity to compete, and it's really brought energy to sports,
24:04
high school sports and must Virginia. And that's all we're asking is the ability
24:08
for our kids to compete. Our cross country team they made the state tournament
24:14
this year as the boys team for the first time, and now they're going
24:17
to have to be running against the three best teams in the state, every
24:22
regional just to have a chance to qualify for states when we're eight hundred and
24:26
those schools have fourteen hundred students, Garrett, are you, mister Burdette,
24:30
are you? Are you concerned because we hear it all the time from people
24:34
that say that we have less less kids that want to get involved. And
24:38
I mentioned at the top of the show the transfer rule, and I know
24:41
it's not what you're here to talk about, but nobody likes to get beaten.
24:45
And if this is just not fun and we have a hard enough time
24:48
getting our young people involved, are you concerned that if you look at maybe
24:52
kids in let's say, in the middle school system right now, seventh eighth
24:56
grade, are you concerned that they're going to look at this sort of thing
24:59
and say, well, I'm gonna stay on play video games. I'm not
25:00
gonna go out there and kid bet. Yeah, I am concerned about that.
25:04
But also the transfer rule, I feel is something that the SAAC should
25:11
look at when making this decision because at a school like Nitro, where are
25:15
smaller sports, so where we got soccer, cross country track. The students
25:22
that are going to come to my school, why why would they have the
25:25
ability now to leave and go to Saint Albans which is right overside over top
25:29
the hill, or I'm Sysamville that is below me their double A and I'm
25:33
three A. Why would a student, my student, who is a great
25:37
student want to come to my school where they feel they can't compete against the
25:42
Hurricane A Kiple Midland of Parkersburg. They would just transfer to Sissmville where and
25:48
I'm going to lose an amazing student athlete in my building, someone that can
25:52
help my my school as a whole. I'm gonna lose not just athletics.
25:57
I'm not looking at this as athletics. I'm gonna lose students in my building
26:00
because of the transfer world that's in place, good students that impact the culture
26:06
of my building to a school like a Systemville or a Hoover who remained in
26:11
the small double way because they can compete. They feel that they have a
26:15
better chance to compete and to make a state tournament or win a state championship
26:19
instead of Nitro. Because I'm up against Kyple, misleyn Hurricane and Parkersburg Protect
26:23
Style. What statement if I had somebody from the s SAC, I'm I'm
26:29
gonna go ahead and say they're probably listening this morning. If you had a
26:33
statement to leave them with mister Bodet, what would that be? Uh?
26:37
Basically, we would like the opportunity to have a good conversation about where we
26:45
are. We would have like the opportunity to have an appeals process for the
26:49
small sports, as we feel that those students need to have a voice,
26:55
just like the students that are in the four class system. We want all
26:57
of our student atleast to be able to have a voice. And that's where
27:00
we feel that we are trying to get to give our small sports a voice
27:06
to show their concerns. Whatever happens from there will happen. But as long
27:10
as we have the opportunity, that's what we're asking. Grey burdad vice principal
27:15
and former athletic director at Nitro High School. I appreciate you being here man,
27:18
thanks a lot. Thank you, And again, I do want to
27:21
say that, just kind of for clarification that if there were some folks in
27:23
Nitro that reached out to me about the subject, and again, I certainly
27:26
will make time for anyone with an opposing view, or better yet, someone
27:30
from the s s ceed to come on the show. I'm more more than

of an issue with the SSAC from what he was telling me there, says
31:41
Texas. I supposed it says a lot about the competitive spirit within students if
31:45
they'd leave to a school where competition is easier. When I was in high
31:48
school, students who wanted to go somewhere with sports sought out more competitive athletes
31:52
to play against. As a text, West Virginian Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse.
31:57
We talked about this group on the show in the past. From time to
32:00
time, they're out with something they call the Dirty dozen list. Pepper Pania
32:04
is with the group and she joins us now. Pepper, good morning,
32:06
Welcome to the show. Hey, good morning, thanks for having me.
32:08
First of all, talk about the group West Virginia. West Virginian's Against Lawsuit
32:13
Abuse. Talk about the group as a whole. Well, the group as
32:15
a whole is created to educate the public on the role of the legal system
32:20
and how it plays in our daily lives. It's a watchdog group that pays
32:24
attention to what's happening and how different players in the system are affecting our races
32:30
and our legislature. Lawsuit abuse increases the cost of all goods and discourages job
32:37
creators from bringing good jobs in states where there's lawsuit abuse in existence. So
32:44
you're out with something, Pepper, that's called the dirty Dozen. What does
32:47
one have to do or maybe not do to find themselves on the list.
32:52
We'll start with who's on the list and how your group arrived at your decisions
32:55
though, So the Dirty Dozen List prizes of the top twelve plus an honorable
33:01
mention of candidates honorable this honorable mention, excuse me, I misspoke? Okay?
33:07
Of folks that have taken money from personal injury attorneys, information can be
33:13
found on the Secretary of State's website as campaign financial reports disclose who money gets
33:19
from, contributed from two candidates, the amount, and it also shows their
33:23
employer and occupation. So that's where people can find it. So what is
33:27
the problem with personal injury attorneys? Here? Editors know one of the firm
33:30
sponsors this show, so I just wanted to get that outter. But what's
33:32
the group's problem with personal injury attorneys? Well, the problem with personal injury
33:37
attorneys are these are attorneys that practice to find ways to make money off of
33:43
the off of the system. They sue based on insurance, They go after
33:51
as much as they possibly can go after for their clients, and they have
33:54
their own personal interest. I mean these folks, you know, when when
33:59
they're working this in this system, they're making money and it's how many houses
34:05
can you purchase? You know, I have the house at the Lake,
34:07
a house on the beach, a house in Charleston. So when you look
34:10
at the fact that they're going after and their clients are going after, exposing
34:16
and going after the most vulnerable and attacking and going after our business leaders and
34:22
businesses, it raises the cost of everything. But to play Devil's advocate here,
34:27
I mean, I mean they're going to say, well, we're just
34:30
standing up for injured workers, for example, We're just standing up for those
34:34
less fortune. That's going to be their argument. Your argument would be,
34:37
well, of course everybody deserves their day in court. But there's also limits
34:40
as well. I mean, should you go after somebody just because that's the
34:45
maximum allowable that their policy allows them, their insurance policy allows them to pay
34:51
out. You have to have a balance as well. So talk about the
34:54
list. So our local candidates that we have. Number one on the list
35:00
is here in Kanah County is Jennifer Bailey, Judge Bailey, Kanawk County.
35:06
She took in one hundred and fifty six thousand dollars and there's also a two
35:09
hundred thousand dollars independent expenditure as well to help her remain on the court.
35:16
The second one that we have here local and Putnam County is actually Judge Phil
35:22
Stowers. You know, this person was a Democrat for his entire life and
35:25
now suddenly says he's a conservative Republican recently, but he still takes in money
35:31
fifty eight thousand dollars from personal injury attorneys. So Putnam County residents need to
35:36
ask, has this leopard changed his spots when he's still taking money from the
35:39
same interest groups that fund Democrat liberal policies. In Kanah County, also number
35:46
four on the list, we have Richard Lindsay. He's a former state senator
35:52
with a liberal Democrat policy, the liberal Democrat record as well. I mean,
35:58
he's a nice enough person, but you know, he still took in
36:00
fifty six thousand dollars in his campaign from them. And what was also interesting
36:07
in Kanah County is for the first time we've seen a prosecutor prosecutor candidate to
36:14
take in forty thousand dollars and it was you know, Democrat Ben Salongo's house
36:21
is where the fundraiser was held, where she took in thousands of dollars in
36:24
money from personal injury attorneys. Then then number twelve on the list in Kanagh
36:30
County is we also have Delegate Kayla Young. And you know one thing I
36:36
can say I can give Kayla Young props is that she has a liberal record.
36:40
She advocates for liberal policies, but at least she stayed in the Democratic
36:45
Party where her policies and her views are aligned, where in other races we've
36:51
seen liberal Democrats switch parties only to because they think it's politically expedient. So
36:58
it's important to know where their money comes from. This see that they may
37:00
say that they're walking and talking like a Republican, but they're still taking money
37:04
from liberal Democrats. Talking to Peppervania again, who is with West Virginia Citizens
37:08
Against Lawsuit Abuse. Now, it is important to note that this is not
37:14
the entire list. You're only going over the local ones. And that entire
37:16
list of people want to see it from your organization is available where it's available
37:20
at West Virginia Kayla dot org. Okay, and that's c A La La.
37:25
And although let's talk about the judges for a moment. Although judges are
37:30
nonpartisan. Their parties are known. A simple Google search or search of the
37:32
Secretary of State's website, you know where you can find that out easily.
37:37
And the people that are on the list all are not registered Democrats, because
37:43
we don't want people to think that this is just you going out, although
37:45
the majority of them I think are in fact, at least one of those
37:49
on the list arguably the single most conservative Republican member of the House of Delegates,
37:54
and that would be Tom Fast. Well it's Tom Fast did make the
38:00
list, So this isn't This is a nonprofit organization. We're not targeting Democrats
38:05
only, right, That's the point I'm trying to make it. So we're
38:07
being fair and looking at everybody's campaign financial reports to report back to folks to
38:13
let them know who's funding elections and how. I just didn't want people to
38:16
think, well, this is just an organization that's just going after after liberal
38:20
Democrats. I mean, you don't get any more conservative Republican than Tom Fast
38:23
is me and he didn't get an exception. Yeah, and he's on the
38:27
list. So the what what goes into making this? I mean, I
38:31
know you you you pour over the Secretary of States finance reports and whatever do
38:36
you organization? You have a board, it gets in a room together and
38:38
work it out, or I mean, how does it all work? Well?
38:40
The numbers speak for themselves. This is a this is black. This
38:45
is a black and white issue when it comes to this. We just took
38:49
a list at the campaign financial reports and did the math. It wasn't that
38:52
you have to sit here and say, Okay, who are we going to
38:54
put on the list and who are we going to exclude from the list.
38:58
You just take a look to the math and then rank them in order of
39:01
how they received campaign finance funds. Where is your organization? It's a nonprofit
39:07
organization, right, And I think it's a fair statement task because I get
39:10
this. When I have organizations like this, people want to ask whether it's
39:14
you or whether it's any other organization. Republican liberal, concerned people will say,
39:17
where does your funding come from? Well, West Virginia KAYLA is an
39:22
independent organization and funding comes mostly from folks that are interested in making sure that
39:28
we have a fair and just legal system in West Virginia, from mostly individuals.
39:31
All right, And the list is available where it is available at West
39:36
Virginia ca LA dot Org. All right, Pepper, always a pleasure to
39:40
have somebody from your organization on the show. And again as I as I
39:44
said in the last segment, you know, if anybody has got an issue
39:46

44:39
to send you this because it's a comment that I made on one of your
44:44
stories. I think they mean one of the Metro News stories. And the
44:46
headline in the story is justice slams sent a finance share and again states is
44:51
support for the IDD waiver and the comment from the texture was big Jim will
44:54
be glad to go to DC to get away from Senator Eric Tarr. What
45:00
was I think it was? I think that was actually a tweet that Chris
45:01
Lawrence did. Let me see. Texas Putnam County Judge Phil Stowers made the
45:09
Dirty Dozen list because he's a lifelong liberal Democrat who is bankrolled by personal injury
45:14
lawyers, and he lies about it. His mailers announced that he's a lifelong
45:16
conservative and he's blatantly foss. He left the Democratic Party and joined the Republican
45:21
Party less than a year ago because he was a true conservative John Hoover running
45:24
against him, and he's scared out of his boots. Putnam County vote true
45:28
Republicans John Hoover and Kathy christ I'm not I mean, I'm going to send
45:31
whoever this text or wise won't have to send him a bill for that now,
45:37
Texas Dave, what makes these cases different than those like Campbell June or
45:40
suing a gun manufacturer for actions of a shooter? Says a Texter asked the
45:46
West Virginia Kala Rap that citizens against lost abuse tell us who funds them?
45:52
Don't care to tell us? Don't they care to tell us about the dirty
45:55
dark money they used don't trust a watchdog group that hides everything. Let me
46:02
see texts says, well, it's really hard for me to read stories.
46:08
I appreciate people's texting me at actual metro news and television stories, but I
46:13
really can't read those on the air. It's very hard to do that.
46:15
Text says JB. McCuskey toward the state, saying we'll handle it all and
46:20
the invited management of the funding. Can't have it both ways. He wanted
46:23
to be in charge before he didn't textas JB. McCuskey has taken tens of
46:29
thousands of dollars from personal injury lawyers, is he in the hall of fame?
46:32
And there is a reason why he didn't make the list. If it's
46:36
a black and white organization, where is JB. McCuskey on that list?
46:40
I know the folks are listening from Cala, So yeah, there's a question
46:45
for you. I see CALI representative when they will go after JB. Acres
46:52
as a greedy plaintiff attorney. He literally built his practice suing West Virginia employers
46:58
and job creators. To use the phrase from Cala, Jbakers is still suing
47:01
employers and doctors and just about everyone else as a greedy, greedy plaintiff's attorney
47:07
would best I can tell, says the TEXTA Citizens against Lawsuit Abuse had its
47:10
nonprofit status terminated by the IRS. Can they confirm if that's true? If
47:16
so, why do they Why do they misrepresent it as a non profit on
47:21
their website? Again? We'll have them back in to answer any questions.
47:28
Tex says, God bless Tom Fast. He's a good man and a great
47:30
conservative. We will be glad to see him on the bench. Says the
47:35
text. I only brought up Tom Fast. Nothing against Tom Fast personally.
47:37
I actually sort of know him. But I just wanted people to realize that
47:42
that list. Didn't want people to think, well, they're just piling on
47:45
a bunch of liberal Democrats, because again they get no more conservative than Tom
47:47
Fast, and he made the list. So I just wanted to make sure
47:50
that people people got that text, says Dave as pepper Y. JB.
47:55
McCuskey was not listed. He should be top three on that list. Texas
48:01
peppersh and director Energy to our calling on oil, gas and coal money influencing

Today. Text says I would like to applaud Delegate Jbacres for organizing the event
48:44
last night. Yeah, this was this event that they held out at Sandplant
48:46
Road last night at the community center there to try to get people that needed
48:51
storm had storm damage to be able to ask questions. I did not attend
48:57
the meeting. I know Jared Lewis, I think from our news team did
49:00
and I saw some of the television coverage. Looks like it was packed out.
49:01
There was a lot of different representatives, not just Delicate Acres there,
49:05
there were a lot more that were there from different organizations. I think Margaret
49:08
O'Neil from the United Way was there last night. Several other enforcement or non
49:14
enforcement but several other agencies were there as well, so I think I think
49:19
it was pretty well attended. Texas Dave, This is a wrestling thing,
49:23
says Dave. Loved that the greatest air of wrestling eighties and nineties has made
49:27
a comeback with shows like WWF Legends and Dark Side of the Ring. Mis
49:30
watching the greats live here in Charleston, sting Rick Flair, Dusty Roads,
49:34
in the Road Warriors, says a Texter. Well, that's the difference between
49:37
professional wrestling and sports entertainment. They're not the same thing. Jeff and I
49:40
can have that argument at some point, but not today. I want to
49:44
say this about a story in the news. I love the fact that more
49:49
good stuff that's coming to the area. Cat Skelton has a story and pictures
49:52
posted now wv metronews dot com. A big bike park is in Mountain Bikes
49:57
coming to the Clendenon area to the tune of our around two million dollars.
50:01
The governor, members of the County Commission, other elected officials were on hand
50:06
along with Clinton and Mayor k Summers to make that announcement yesterday in Clintdennon.
50:10
This is a year round park that is designed for downhill mountain biking. Now,
50:16
this is the kind of folks stuff editorial comment coming. This is the
50:21
kind of stuff that West Virginia needs. This could turn an area like Clintdennon
50:28
into a world class tourist destination. You add that with what's going on out
50:35
at Shawnee and the proposed downtown sports complex and also go ahead and factory in
50:40
the New River Gorge area now being a national park, and going down to
50:45
Barbersville, one of my buddies, Chris Tadum, the Barbersville is doing down
50:49
there. We have a lot of good crap going on here in West Virginia,
50:52
to be honest with you, I mean, we have some really really
50:53
good stuff going on here. We have world class natural stuff here that people
51:00
will pay big bucks to come see and experience and to spend their money here
51:06
too. And we talk about I mean, you know, talking to Commissioner
51:10
Selango about the event at Shawnee a couple of weeks ago. This was a
51:14
couple of days after tornadoes devastated the area. Thirty two teams came in for
51:20
this. Now that is an average if you figure, and depends on which
51:24
you know, which mathematical equation that you use. And I always try to
51:29
avoid math at all costs. If every player brings in three or three people
51:35
with them, a sibling, a parent, or guardian, whatever, and
51:38
you figure maybe ten fifteen players a team, do you do the math?
51:44
Do you do the math? Folks? And I'm telling you, folks,
51:47
we are going to mess around and have some good things here in West Virginia
51:51
if we're not careful, and we are well on our way, specifically in
51:54
this part of the states. And I think it's wonderful. I mean,
51:59
I think the announcem but it was made in clindenn And yesterday, is awesome.
52:00
I think what Shawnee is doing is awesome. I think of what the
52:04
proposed Downtown Sports Complax is going to do is going to be awesome. Again,
52:07
it's not always about the local people, you know, it's not about
52:10
me and you necessarily it's about bringing people in from out of town and putting
52:14
the heads in beds. We had another term for it in the wrestling business.
52:17
That seems to be the things today. But I can't say that because
52:20
Jeff will pull the plug on me, all right. Coming up on the
52:22
show tomorrow again some sort of a big announcement from Charles Marre Amy Goodwin,
52:24
Knawa Countymmission Ben Silango on the show tomorrow. Hannah Gardner from the Humane Association
52:29
is on the show tomorrow. We're gonna talk a little dancing with the stars.
52:31
And former Secretary of State and the current candidate for Kanawk County Commission,
52:35
Natalie Tennant, will be on the show tomorrow as well. Follow the news
