- 0:38Music.
- 0:48She's a happy girl.
- 1:03Throughout the scriptures, God gives us countless verses to ease our fears and to give us peace.
- 1:09Why then do you still worry and fret? The answer is simple.
- 1:13You don't allow your faith to kick in. You ignore his promise to never leave you or forsake you.
- 1:21Join us in this program, Why? As Kim Miller of Woman at the Well Ministries
- 1:26takes us through Luke 24, 38,
- 1:29which says, And he said unto them, Why are you troubled, and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?
- 1:36When we look at this scripture in Luke chapter 24 and verse 38,
- 1:41Christ has just appeared to his disciples after his resurrection.
- 1:46And when they see him they're terribly afraid and they think they're seeing
- 1:54a spirit and they are very uncertain as to what's going on around them no doubt they are completely.
- 2:02Miscombobulated because they knew that he had been
- 2:06crucified they knew he'd given up
- 2:09the ghost they knew he'd been laid in a
- 2:11borrowed tomb and now standing before
- 2:14them is jesus and he
- 2:18says to them why are ye
- 2:21troubled and why do thoughts
- 2:24arise in your heart jesus
- 2:28had been spending time with his disciples and he
- 2:31had spoken to them about what was going to
- 2:34happen in the future and he had told them about
- 2:37how he was going to die on the cross he had told them about how he would rise
- 2:41again he had told them that he was the savior of the world he had told them
- 2:45he's coming back and these disciples stand in total shock and he says to them
- 2:53behold my hands and my feet,
- 2:56it is i myself handle me and see for a spirit hath not flesh and bones as you see me have of.
- 3:05You see, we look at that scripture and we try to place ourself in that.
- 3:11And we think to ourselves sometimes, how could the disciples not believe?
- 3:16They walked and talked with Jesus.
- 3:19Yet we as believers have the Holy Spirit that dwells inside of us and he comforts
- 3:24us. He teaches us. He leads us. He guides us.
- 3:27And yet fear arises in us.
- 3:30The Bible says that Jesus is coming back again.
- 3:33And only those individuals who have placed their faith in him is going to rise again with them,
- 3:41and only those are going to make their home in heaven through the redeeming
- 3:46grace and blood of Jesus Christ and we as believers most of us can walk you
- 3:52down what we call the Romans road or we can talk to you and we can tell you
- 3:56how we got saved we can tell you about the glories of God God,
- 4:00we can tell you about the grace of Jesus, but I wonder if we knew he was going
- 4:05to come back today, who it is that we would go talk to with feverishly,
- 4:15absolute vigor,
- 4:17eager to get them to understand.
- 4:19I doubt that there's anyone listening to this message who doesn't know someone
- 4:24who needs Jesus as their Savior.
- 4:26Yet I highly doubt that many of us wake up every day and think about that individual
- 4:32and figure out another way that we could show them Jesus,
- 4:35figure out another way that we could let Jesus shine in us so brightly that
- 4:39they could see it, to figure out another way that without pushing them away,
- 4:43we could somehow let them see the need for their salvation.
- 4:47Somehow we keep believing we have plenty of time. But one day he's going to split the eastern sky.
- 4:56And when he does, we're gonna all look like deer in a headlight. Yet he told us that.
- 5:03Your redemption draweth nigh. And many of you listen to me and say,
- 5:07I've heard that my whole life. When I was a kid, they said, Jesus is coming
- 5:10back. Well, he's coming back.
- 5:11And no man knoweth the time nor the hour. And he's going to come when we least expect it.
- 5:18And I wonder, are our lamps trimmed and ready? Are we in right fellowship with God?
- 5:24But do you really believe he's coming back?
- 5:27A lot of us just think that we'll leave this world due to death or some sort
- 5:32of injury or a circumstance that wipes us out, and we pretty much are using
- 5:37Jesus as fire insurance. Get out of hell.
- 5:41We don't realize who he is in our life every day.
- 5:46We don't realize what he gives us every day.
- 5:49We don't realize how he strengthens us and holds us and encourages us and leads
- 5:54us and guides us and has a purpose and a plan for us.
- 5:57And we certainly don't seem to realize the need that those around us who don't
- 6:03know who Christ is as their Savior have when they say, I don't believe.
- 6:08Because if we really understood there was a heaven to gain and a hell to shun
- 6:12and that he truly is coming back and none of us have the promise of the next breath.
- 6:17It could be that I don't finish this message or you don't have the opportunity
- 6:22to finish hearing it completed because he comes and he takes you home.
- 6:27Did you get up this morning thinking this could be the day? This is it.
- 6:31We could do it. Jesus could come back.
- 6:34Maybe some of you did. I'll be brutally honest. I did not.
- 6:39I got up this morning thinking about the things that Lord had put on my heart to do.
- 6:45I spoke to him i read his word i studied but it never crossed my mind that this might be the day.
- 6:56Now it's weight heavy on my mind some people that i know who don't know him,
- 7:00and i've casually mentioned it but in my mind i'm thinking well i could i could
- 7:05invite them to revival and i'll invite them to revive the problem is is that
- 7:09my revival that i might invite them to is several weeks away.
- 7:14That's a great thing to do if the Lord tarries and we still have time.
- 7:18But surely there's something I could do today that could help somebody see Jesus.
- 7:24And perhaps that's somebody whom I love and adore,
- 7:28whom I have a relationship with and friendship with, or my neighbor,
- 7:31or the person I see at the store all the time, or the person I see at the post office all the time,
- 7:36or the person I see at the gas station all the time, or
- 7:40perhaps my co-worker maybe there's something i
- 7:43could consciously think or say to help
- 7:46them see there's a need for salvation in their
- 7:48life did i do that today do i really believe he's coming back am i really any
- 7:56different than the disciples who stood there and he says why are you troubled
- 8:03and why do thoughts arise in your heart?
- 8:07I'm probably not that different. You see, I'm not going to have the opportunity
- 8:11to reach back and grab that lost individual and let them come to heaven with
- 8:17me. It doesn't work that way.
- 8:19But right now, I have the opportunity to do all I can and be all I can through
- 8:28the grace of Jesus Christ and his strength to lead some lost person to him.
- 8:36How sad it would be to know that you knew somebody wasn't going to heaven and
- 8:44you really never made a big effort to let them know who he was.
- 8:49Title today's message is why?
- 8:52Why do we not believe? When in essence, there's a level we believe in because
- 8:57we believe in Jesus, but we get so caught up in our own lives.
- 9:01We get so caught up in our own things that we need
- 9:04to do or want to do that we forget that he said go
- 9:07you into all the world and spread the gospel and sometimes
- 9:10it's a whole lot easier to talk to a stranger about who
- 9:13god is than it is your brothers or your sisters or
- 9:16your neighbors or your close relatives but the
- 9:19people we love need us to love
- 9:22them enough to tell them who jesus
- 9:26is to give them an opportunity
- 9:29to fully accept him as savior or
- 9:33to understand who he is and if they choose
- 9:36not to accept him we know that we never
- 9:39gave up trying we never gave up praying we never
- 9:42gave up trying to get someone who could walk into
- 9:45their path and show them some way who
- 9:48jesus is in a real way that they would come to repentance
- 9:51it's a choice that every individual in
- 9:54this world has to make you're going to spend eternity it's either going to be
- 9:58in heaven or it's going to be in hell the only way that we can get to heaven
- 10:02is a personal experience with jesus christ why do we stand amazed when something
- 10:11happens and someone slips into eternity.
- 10:14And one of the most horrific questions you're asked Thank you.
- 10:22Is did that person know Jesus? And you're just sliding all over an answer.
- 10:28Your heart wants to say yes.
- 10:30You want to believe with all you have that they knew him.
- 10:34But the truth of the matter is you knew that person well.
- 10:37But you can't even say yes or no. Because you never had that conversation.
- 10:44We're not much different than the disciples were when they met him on the road
- 10:48after his resurrection.
- 10:49And he wants to know why are they troubled you
- 10:53see today is the day of salvation now is
- 10:56the accepted time we have an opportunity
- 10:59to tell other people about jesus christ
- 11:02but we also have a commandment if
- 11:06you believe in me you believe if
- 11:09you believe in god leave also when me he tells us in
- 11:12john chapter 14 i believe and.
- 11:16I've made my calling and election sure and i
- 11:19try to tell others what the lord has
- 11:22put in my heart but just like
- 11:24most of you i can do better at
- 11:27telling the people i know and come into contact with in a personal way who jesus
- 11:32is they may laugh at me they may think i'm crazy they may scorn me or shun me
- 11:37but i will know that i have loved them with an everlasting love and a kind of
- 11:43love that cares for their soul because that's what matters,
- 11:47and they may not like you now and that might hurt you but knowing that you never
- 11:53did anything to help them understand who christ is will haunt you for a lifetime
- 11:58my dad used to sing a song you knew i was astray yet you never mentioned him
- 12:04to me i don't want that to be said of me,
- 12:07I don't want that to be said of any of you.
- 12:09I don't want to be standing in the presence of God and look bewildered when
- 12:13he shows up. I want to be expecting to hear the trumpet.
- 12:18And to see the eastern sky split wide open. And I want my loved ones,
- 12:22my neighbors, my friends, my acquaintances, to be caught up in glory with me.
- 12:28It's my prayer that God saves our country and our families.
