- 0:01Coming up on this week's episode of Hip Hop Now podcast, Loup b a
- 0:06Fiasco announces a new project entitled Samurai. My thoughts on Rhapsody's latest album Please
- 0:15Don't Cry and is Hit Them Up by Tupac the greatest this record of all
- 0:23time? I got a few thoughts considering I got a biggie shirt on today,
- 0:30Let's talk about it. Welcome to Jim Pop Now Podcast. Ask to
- 0:39Do from the future. You know what to do? Get your ass out
- 0:42of some disrespect the leg hip hop can say this today escat rating to the
- 0:52business. What up y'all? I A'm your host Vegas and this it's hip
- 0:56Hop Now podcast and podcast specifically designed to keep you caught up on all things
- 1:00hip hop, music and culture that happened throughout the week. Big shout out
- 1:04to the supporters over at patreon dot com slash hip Hop Now. If you
- 1:10would like to learn more about what it's like to be a Patreon supporter of
- 1:14this podcast, audio or video, visit the link in the description of this
- 1:21episode. On the road to five hundred subscribers on YouTube right now, we
- 1:26are at four thirty one. Everybody that has subscribed, I appreciate you we
- 1:34almost there were almost there. It's in our sights. Five hundred subscribers is
- 1:41necessary for this podcast, not only for the growth, but the exposure throughout
- 1:46the YouTube lexicon. You know what I mean now when I say when I
- 1:49say that, I'm just saying that that also puts this show in the eyes
- 1:56in front of hip hop fans just like you. So what I need you
- 2:00to do because my statistics say that, well, let me just say this,
- 2:05it's a quick update for those who listen. Maybe two weeks ago,
- 2:09I looked at my stats and it said that fifty eight percent of the people
- 2:15who watched my podcast on YouTube weren't subscribers, which is typical in the space
- 2:22of content creating, specifically for YouTube. So I made a plea to you
- 2:28guys, and now we got that number down to fifty five percent. But
- 2:32I'm trying to get above fifty. I want to have a stat that says
- 2:38most of the people who listen to this podcast or watch it on YouTube are
- 2:44subscribers. So if you enjoy this content, maybe you've been watching it all
- 2:49the time and you just pop in or you follow me on the social media
- 2:53site, and when you see that I have a new episode. That's when
- 2:55you go and watch, hit that subscribe button, hit the light button,
- 3:00and more importantly, share it with people you know what, enjoy this kind
- 3:04of context specifically, because this is how it gets bigger. You wonder why
- 3:09certain podcasts are huge, it's because if they don't have their a celebrity status
- 3:15driving that or guest which I don't do. I'm here for the news in
- 3:20the conversation, then it's easier to get to those numbers, right because you
- 3:25kind of already have a head start based off of fandom. I'm starting from
- 3:30the bottom and I did it on the audio side, where my listeners count
- 3:35was low in the beginning, and then it grew and now that audience is
- 3:38steady now on YouTube. Started out with a couple of subscribers, like maybe
- 3:46a little bit below two hundred. Now we have four thirty one. I'm
- 3:51putting in the work, You're appreciating it, so let's keep it going.
- 3:55Five hundred is easy. I think we can get to five hundred before July
- 4:00first, and again I have some more content coming. So one thing I
- 4:04would like for you to do, and I know I'm being a little long
- 4:06winded, but this is you know this is a partnership me and you,
- 4:12Right, I want to know what people want to see, right, because
- 4:19I have my tape series Tail of the Tapes coming back pretty soon. There's
- 4:23twelve episodes of that. That's one thing as far as content, But there
- 4:28are other things I could do, and one of them, well, let
- 4:31me just say this. I've also done Tearless right, where I review albums
- 4:36from a certain artist catalog and I kind of rape them. There'll be more
- 4:42coming from that. But also one thing that I'm flirting with doing, and
- 4:46I don't usually do this kind of thing, but I think it'd be fun
- 4:48because it's sparks conversation is list right top ten greatest hip Hop Albums, top
- 4:57ten MC's top ten Greatest This Songs. If you would like for me to
- 5:01do like list, I could easily do that because it's not a problem for
- 5:06me. I'm a hip hop hit. So if that sounds like something you
- 5:11would want to see and talk about and debate or whatever, leave that comment
- 5:14in a comment section and I will definitely look out because it's going to be
- 5:18more content coming to the YouTube channel anyway. Now. Big shout out to
- 5:24hip Hop DX dot com, Old hip Hop dot com even though they've been
- 5:28posting things that I'm sort of like, yo, they saying hip hop what
- 5:30is this? And ambrosia for heads? And which are a few places where
- 5:38I get some of my stories from. Let's get right into the business stuff.
- 5:44So Loop a Fiasco has announced that he has a new project dropping soon,
- 5:50a new album called Samurai and the first single is the title track Samurai
- 6:00and this will be his ninth studio album. Supposedly it's going to be released
- 6:05on June twenty eight, which it's a little bit refreshing sometimes. Well I
- 6:12won't say that because don't get me wrong. Ghost Face announced a new single,
- 6:17Scar Tissue featuring Nas in the very next week. The album dropped,
- 6:21and I was excited for it. I'm not too mad at Loope announcing a
- 6:27new album, having a single out, but the album doesn't come out until
- 6:31June twenty eight. I'm okay with that. Things used to be different a
- 6:36long time ago. It would be like new singles album album next year.
- 6:41You're like, what you know what I'm saying, So I'm fine with it.
- 6:46What I do appreciate is I don't like when Loope because I've said some
- 6:51things on this podcast but I'm a Loop a Fiasco fan again. I put
- 6:55my money where my mouth fits. Homie's nice and he makes dope music,
- 7:00but I don't like when he's on the outside looking at somebody else situation.
- 7:06And not that he can't have an opinion, but it always comes from a
- 7:12position of critiquing in a negative way. Now, I'm not saying he's a
- 7:17rotten person he hates because everybody says. It's like saying respectfully and then saying
- 7:23something disrespectful. Okay, sometimes he does that and it's like, dog,
- 7:28just do you right? So I like when it's like I'm just gonna show
- 7:34y'all, don't tell us anybody can get it, and what you write and
- 7:39how nice you are, we do not care because we already know this.
- 7:43But most fans who want you to go out a Kendrick or somebody else really
- 7:48do it because maybe they don't like Kendrick or they don't like this other rapper,
- 7:54or like like, yeah, okay, he went at Royce, and
- 8:00ironically Royce didn't really respond where I thought he would. But also in a
- 8:05lot of ways, it shows how much you matter. So to me,
- 8:09Loupe, you show people by your work forget dis records, forget back and
- 8:16forth, and me as a loop A fan, I don't really care about
- 8:20him doing that unless somebody's bothering him, then I get it, But don't
- 8:26be jumping out. Anybody here can get it, and people just go they
- 8:28get out of here. Man, why given an ask you roach like that
- 8:33looks worse like game? For those who don't know, Game released to dis
- 8:37record like a week or so ago. Already for that, uh towards Rick
- 8:43Ross. Rick Ross just said, y'all starving and just laughed with the veneers
- 8:48all in the camera. You don't want to be that guy who in the
- 8:52disrecording that bad. You don't want to be that guy. This is the
- 8:56second time you're being ignored after going into the studio putting in what you thought
- 9:01it was your best word. Game just make an album. Dog nineteen ninety
- 9:05two. I tell y'all, I think it's a classic. I think it's
- 9:09a classic Dog. I love it, maybe because I'm from the nineties,
- 9:13but the game's album. I love it. So that's how I feel with
- 9:18Loope, Like Yo, Samurai Cam digging it, Okay, I'm kind of
- 9:22digging the cover too, Like I'm digging the first songs the loop A,
- 9:26I like, you know, not brooding and you know so technical that you
- 9:33gotta like commit to trying to figure it out. No, it's right in
- 9:37the pocket. It's exactly what. It's the cool loope mixed with the kick
- 9:45and push loope. And to me, when you can bind those that's when
- 9:48I think it's the best of what he does. So I'm looking forward to
- 9:54this project and I'm just hoping that it lives up to xtra dictations that I
- 10:00have, but I think it will. I mean, I'm hoping I could
- 10:03just say top five because for the year, because I think Loupei is more
- 10:11than capable of making that kind of music. And then also what also scares
- 10:16me, and it's the last thing on it. If Kendrick does have an
- 10:20album coming out, please don't drop no way near him, Loupey, Please
- 10:26don't because they're just a number of people who are just going to ignore you
- 10:31because they not like us is some are not even here. It's the song
- 10:37of the Summer already, you know. It's just it's just too much fun
- 10:41considering everything is being said in the song, and I just think once Kendrick
- 10:46drops an album, especially if it's a good album and he hasn't missed yet.
- 10:52I just I just think it's going to dominate as far as the conversation.
- 10:58No matter who drops what that's dope, that's gonna be the conversation.
- 11:03People are either gonna not like it and talk about not liking Kendrick album all
- 11:07day every day on social media, or love it and do the same thing,
- 11:13or overplay it and call it a classic and how it's better than the
- 11:16Allmatic and everything. So let's let's just hope. I know, for me
- 11:22my personal listening, I'll be fine. I can. I can really love
- 11:26album, a good album from one of my favorites, like a Kendrick,
- 11:31and still listen to Loope and say, Yo, this joint is hot too.
- 11:37I just want more for Loope so he could stop feeling like he got
- 11:39a you know. Yeah, so y'all can see still here, like we
- 11:43know, dog, you're nice, but relax, all right, so we'll
- 11:48see what happens. Speaking of albums, that a single came out and you
- 11:56know, we knew we had like almost a month before the album would dry.
- 12:00But Rhapsody has finally released her latest project called Please Don't Cry, It's
- 12:09about twenty two tracks with some interludes in there, only coming in at about
- 12:13an hour and five minutes as far as listening time. Features on Now on
- 12:18the hip hop side include Lil Wayne also hip Boy I think he did the
- 12:24lead single Asteroids, but also features like ever kabab Du and a couple of
- 12:31other people on this joint on his album, and the album is basically a
- 12:39very very personal, almost like reading a diary kind of album from her.
- 12:48And even though Rhapsody is always spoke from the heart, made thoughtful songs right
- 12:56mostly about relationships. I think that's what attracted me to her music early on,
- 13:01was the fact that she could talk about relationships and from a woman's perspective,
- 13:07and as a guy, wouldn't really be turned off because I couldn't relate
- 13:11or like maybe I'm like, yo, why you want it? Like stuff
- 13:13like that. So I kind of feel like this one is a little bit
- 13:20different for those who are new to my process. I listened three times.
- 13:26One the first time it's just impressions. The second time is to confirm what
- 13:31I heard. The third time it's just well, the second sea I'll mess
- 13:35it up. The second time it's to listen more intently to the lyrics and
- 13:41the concept and stuff like that, and the third time I listen is usually
- 13:45just to confirm what I heard, whether I like it or not. It's
- 13:48still more impressions basically, but it is a review. I don't think I
- 13:54need to sit with an album for a week or two in order to understand
- 13:58it. Because I'm listening, I compute the stuff information as it as I
- 14:03hear it. You know what I'm saying, So there you have it.
- 14:05And for those who just want to know the score right away, I would
- 14:09say it's a good album, but I think it's an album that will get
- 14:18forgotten quick. Now let me explain for those who want a deeper explanation.
- 14:24I don't think this is a whack album by any means. I don't think
- 14:28this is a boring album by any means. I just think it's so specific
- 14:35like Mister Morale and the Big Steppers as far as concept goes, that some
- 14:41people, when they choose to listen to music, they don't want to commit
- 14:46so much to the listening experience. I know, for me, listening to
- 14:52this album and having been a Rhapsody fan for years now, I kind of
- 14:58feel like and I'm trying to be sensitive with this, you know, so
- 15:03maybe I'm blanking on the words to find to say, but I'm gonna just
- 15:09say what I mean. But I was kind of bored of the constant self
- 15:18reflection, not because it's this project, but because it's kind of what she's
- 15:24done. It's sort of like with Mary J Blige. Right, I love
- 15:28Mary J Blige, I'm a big Mary J Blige fan whatever, but at
- 15:35some point, and this is what fans do, but at some point it
- 15:39was like, damn, well Mary ever find love? Like that's how you
- 15:41would feel, like, hey, will she ever be happy? Man?
- 15:46We were on the fifth album until she was happy and then I like it.
- 15:52And then when she got into a bad marriage and it was like strength
- 15:56of a woman, I'm like, it's it. She back? So you
- 15:58know what I mean? With Rhapsody, I think in a lot of ways,
- 16:03what I probably and I'm gonna get into what I do like, but
- 16:07what I probably didn't like initially was feeling like, Okay, this is a
- 16:14self reflection album. This is an album where you're looking at the height of
- 16:18your success and looking at all the doubters and the lack of support and people
- 16:25talking trash about you and all this other stuff, and you're trying to deal
- 16:29with that, and you're trying to shed a facade to be you, and
- 16:33it's deep and it's dope from that level. What bored me about it was
- 16:40I felt like, this is the first time I feel like this album probably
- 16:45connects more with ladies who feel this way because my personality and probably some ladies
- 16:52some other ladies too who wouldn't like some of it, is that at some
- 16:59point, where's your strength on the other side? Right now, there's songs
- 17:03on there where she kind of displays that and puts her foot down about the
- 17:10way people feel about her stuff like that, But to me, those aren't
- 17:14as strong as the tracks where you're saying how much you don't like this or
- 17:18like that or like the industry, and like I get it. It almost
- 17:23comes off as being mad as a defense for how vulnerable you really are.
- 17:32And what I do appreciate about the album is her being vulnerable. But she's
- 17:37always been that way, and I think that's why for me, it's sort
- 17:41of like, Okay, well, on the next project, I need you
- 17:44to rise from the ashes and just be who you are and spit and not
- 17:49worry about what's being said on the outside. I think that's the part that
- 17:55kind of dragged it down a little bit for me, was it felt like
- 17:59and she made not in real life feel completely like this, but it felt
- 18:03like she was just way too overly concerned with the conversation outside of what she
- 18:11does, and dedicating too many songs, too many lyrics to that. Now,
- 18:21accepting the project as it is, almost as a diary and a reflection
- 18:25on these inner feelings, I think is great. The music's great. The
- 18:32thing she touches on right, family, religion, relationships, male and female
- 18:37speculation, celebrity status, like all these different things that you want from an
- 18:45artist, from an artist, not a rapper. I feel like Rhapsody is
- 18:48an artist. You just gotta understand that this is what you're coming here for.
- 18:55So while I say it's good, and I say all those things that
- 18:59some will perceive as being this overall negative, it was just the things for
- 19:03me that told me I can appreciate what she created because she didn't just throw
- 19:10something at us. Musically, I think it's tight Lyrically, I think it's
- 19:15tight. I just think as a fan of hers who really loved her,
- 19:19last project, Eve, which was almost like, you know, honoring black
- 19:27women. Well, I say, like, but it was. I would
- 19:33prefer that because that's coming more from a position of strength, and maybe that's
- 19:41the whole thing, right that album Eve was coming from a position of strength.
- 19:45I think that album should have been nominated for Grammy, to be honest,
- 19:48And this album is coming from a vulnerable standpoint, which is fine.
- 19:55And again, I don't want to be one of those fans who asked for
- 20:00more from artists and then when they give it to us, you can plain
- 20:03and it's not the other thing. But at the end of the day,
- 20:07if you've heard enough of Rhapsodies music, you can kind of see where I'm
- 20:11coming from. And in today's rap game, the way everything is microwave,
- 20:17the way albums come out and people listen to them, talk about them,
- 20:21and they forget that. You can easily forget about this because it feels like
- 20:29extra somber when people are partying to not like us and coming off of a
- 20:37much higher frequency of energy in the rap game. So again, will it
- 20:44make my top five of the year? No, I don't think so.
- 20:49She has before. I don't think this will this year. I mean again,
- 20:55I don't know, because I will continue to listen because I'm a fan.
- 20:59But I found myself identifying the songs I liked and knowing that there were
- 21:06songs I'll probably never listen again too. And I think you have to have
- 21:11a deep connection to her subject matter in order to really really feel it.
- 21:18And there are a lot of people who will, right, There's a lot
- 21:21of people can relate to what she's saying without being rap stars like she is.
- 21:27But people tend to forget when it comes to artistry again, mister Morale.
- 21:36And the big stepper is when when j Cole and Drake was trying to
- 21:40play like it was whack. Some people agreed, right because they was like
- 21:45yo, But I never went back and listened. And I don't think it's
- 21:48because it's whack. I think it's because it's such a commitment, because the
- 21:52subject matter is just so heavy, right, so you have to like say,
- 21:57this is what I want to here. You know, it's the same
- 22:00thing I mentioned with Loop in the first story, right, lup A fiasco
- 22:04to me isn't like, oh it's Sonny outside, let me throw on that
- 22:08loop a nah man. I want to hear that. I want to hear
- 22:11what Rick Ross be making. I want to hear that, right, I
- 22:14want to hear that lavish lifestyle when the sun is beaming on me. And
- 22:17I got the shades and I got the New Kicks on it. That's what
- 22:22I That's what you want, right So, And I'm not saying Levrasity album,
- 22:27you gotta like, well, I'm sad, so I'm I as well
- 22:30put this on, Like I'm not, I'm not saying that. I'm just
- 22:33saying, when it comes to conceptual albums that are heavy in this way and
- 22:40in Turtle in her case, you really got to commit to listening to it
- 22:45and you gotta sort of be in that space. And I just felt like,
- 22:49I think the album made me sad when I was listening to it,
- 22:53and I was listening to it in the gym, and never in gym have
- 22:59I about the tempo, the concepts and stuff like that. But after a
- 23:03while, I'm like, it's Friday, it's Sunday, I'm in the gym,
- 23:06I've been losing weight, blah blah blah blah blah, and now this
- 23:11this album's kind of sad, you know, So maybe that's what it is.
- 23:15Have you heard Rhapsody's brand new album, Please Don't Cry? Do you
- 23:19like it? Are you're a Rhapsody fan? Leave your comments in a comments
- 23:23section below. I would love to hear from others. Will it be in
- 23:27my top five of twenty twenty four? I doubt it? But will it
- 23:33be one of the best albums over the year. Yeah, because it's not.
- 23:37It's not whack. It's just not whack. It's probably one song I
- 23:41skipped now. Like I said, it's like twenty something tracks, So there
- 23:45you have it. And lastly, so coming off one of the greatest,
- 23:56I gotta say, one of the greatest battles in hit pop history, considering
- 24:02not just the output of songs, but everything that followed it, social media
- 24:10craze, and the fact that with all that back and forth with songs,
- 24:15a party record basically ended it for Drake, which is ironic and crazy all
- 24:21at the same time. I know he responded after that but that, but
- 24:26he might as well not have done that, because it's already forgotten in a
- 24:30lot of ways. I know Drake fans haven't forgotten it, but guess what
- 24:33you're gonna be just like jay Z fans a year from now, ten years
- 24:37from now talking about he won, No, he didn't just like Ether one,
- 24:44Ether one, not like us. Meet the Grams won two punch knockout
- 24:49fights over Let's party, but because of the battle, and everybody on the
- 24:56end of it saying, you know, greater this song of all time,
- 25:02which is not what people are saying, like not like us. They probably
- 25:04saying Meet the Grahams more than anything. And then they come, you know,
- 25:08they come everybody with a list and stuff like that. And one particular
- 25:14list that dropped from the legendary Elliet Wilson on hip hopdx dot com one hundred
- 25:22greatest disc Songs in Hip Hop History ranked. Now, y'all know me.
- 25:30I don't typically do lists. I will if you would like to see that,
- 25:33leave your comments in a comment section below, let me know, or
- 25:37hit me on bars or hit me on social media at Vegas World, I
- 25:41NC if you would like to see lists coming from me, and I'm on
- 25:48the brow. You know what I'm saying, bars, But the only thing
- 25:55when it comes to these list is music is highly based off of good music,
- 26:02all bad. But the opinions are based off of just that opinions,
- 26:07and everybody has an opinion, and everybody are affected by this record in one
- 26:11way or another. So when it comes when someone drops the list, it's
- 26:15never the perfect list. You may get a situation where people like, yo,
- 26:19I'm not you know, some people may say, yo, I'm not
- 26:23mad at that list. You know, which is which is cool? You
- 26:27know if you're not mad at it. But let's just start with the last
- 26:36ten and then we're going to go to the top ten and then I'll tell
- 26:40you what I think. And if you don't know by reading the title,
- 26:45Tupac is number one, but not for that soon at one hundred, Big
- 26:51Sean Feature and Kendrick Lamar at Jay Electronica Control, y'all know, Really it
- 26:56was just Kendrick Lamar's verse that wasn't necessarily a disc. Some took it as
- 27:03not, but it was more of a challenge to his peers, so we
- 27:06get it. Ninety nine The Game Buttons. When this Joe buddens little Kim
- 27:11Black Friday, I think that's a slept on this record, maybe because I
- 27:15saw the video once Kim was in a project hallway, like I thought it
- 27:19was crazy. This and Nicki Minaj Jazz Jazz od over one of them.
- 27:27I'm glad this is even on the list. One of the most slept on
- 27:32jay z Is ever. Jazz O was in his bag on this song.
- 27:37In his bag. If you don't know gold, look it up over right
- 27:41like over Oba without the age. Jazz O killed this record and no one
- 27:48ever mentions it, which is crazy. Fifty cent be a gentleman, Cameron,
- 27:53you gotta love it past de Troy, no more play in Ga.
- 28:00That's number ninety four. Jez twenty four to twenty three. Rick Fross Mafia
- 28:06Music. I did not know if that was a disc record, but whatever,
- 28:11Mob Deep featuring Little Kim Quiet Storm Remix. Now, the only reason
- 28:14why that's listed is because of Kim's verse. Kim's verse was going directly at
- 28:18Foxy's and then Foxy was on the song with a component Noriega bang banging.
- 28:25Her verse was crazy. But again you don't hear too much about that because
- 28:30christ Storm Remix was a club record that dominated so and Drake charged up.
- 28:37That's number ninety. Now, let me see if I could get to the
- 28:42one hundred real quick without doing the video having to watch me scroll a little
- 28:47crazy. I'm almost there, Nola, We're just about there, and most
- 28:51of this is predictable. Number ten like that, now again we know the
- 28:57project, we don't trust you? Was, you know, pointing at Drake
- 29:04and like that, mostly because that's where Kendrick Lamar decided We're not doing subliminals
- 29:10no more. I'm going straight at Drake and j Cole on this record.
- 29:15Number nine lost ones for Laurence Hill. Absolutely a lot of times you don't
- 29:21even hear this being named as one of the greatest disc records, but it
- 29:25is one of the most fun and shit moments. And this is a female
- 29:30versus a male and it was nothing. I tell you nothing why Cleft could
- 29:36say because Laurence Hill smoked him? Who you going to scrimmage? Like you
- 29:41the champion? You might win some, but you've just lost one. Lauren
- 29:48was in a back comments to be wording you. It's a family podcast,
- 29:52so I'm not going to say the B word. You want to talk about
- 29:56dissecting one of my heroes in ice Cube slinging Saint Ives and bean pods in
- 30:03the same sentence, busy. But who's after that? Number seven? Ice
- 30:08Cube? No vaciline. How this is not the top five? I do
- 30:11not get it? But whatever ice Cube taking on n W a n w
- 30:17A wasn't a group that fell off at the time. There was the world's
- 30:19most dangerous rap crew. At least that was the Moniker and he killed it.
- 30:26Push your t story of eight. It don like, what is this
- 30:33boy name? I feel like that's not even his name, but you know
- 30:36that's the one who's like, why you hiding the child while you let that
- 30:40boy come out playing border patrol Like that just shut the battle down when it
- 30:45came to Drake because it was like, oh wait a minute, you got
- 30:48it. You gotta see that's what everybody did. Number five Takeover jay Z
- 30:56kill your drama, I kill you mother up and ants with a sledgehammer.
- 31:02Don't make me do it till you've done it, because I overdo it.
- 31:04So you won't confuse it with just rap music acts nods. He don't want
- 31:10it would hold you knew? Who? Do you know? What? Will
- 31:12you know? Who? We keep that between me and you? Who takeover?
- 31:18Whoo they came out? Takeover was a beast That was number five.
- 31:22Drake back to Back. I think Drake back to Back should be in the
- 31:26top ten. I don't think it should be in the top five. I
- 31:30think no Vasaline has to be in the top five. But whatever, this
- 31:34is Elliott Wilson's list, killing mik mil killing him. That is that a
- 31:41world tour or your girl tour? My god, just getting bodied by singing
- 31:48it, like if you want to give Drake a win in a battle,
- 31:52it was definitely that one. So number three Not Like Us, my guy,
- 32:00he got Not Like Us. It's a crazy this record. It's crazy
- 32:05for a number of reasons. And I don't know if I think if I
- 32:07made my own liss, I might go meet the Grams more than Not Like
- 32:14Us. But I think Not Like Us makes the top ten strictly off the
- 32:19fact that he made a bop that rebuttled a lot of what Kendrick I mean,
- 32:24what Drake was saying. And it's probably the one of the only records
- 32:30on this list that's a number one hit. Crazy, number one hit this
- 32:37and you everybody partying to your demids. It's crazy, like you can't even
- 32:42go to a party because the DJ feels like, I gotta play this because
- 32:45it'll get the crowd going. So number two ethan NAS's response to jay z
- 32:53Man Listen, so so many came to hang it with IRVD Big and Eminem
- 33:00murders you on your own, like we could just keep going and going like
- 33:06the stuff that now is saying, like you tiebohole trying to work it out.
- 33:13You're trying to get brought Ask me if I'm trying to acknowledge. Nah'm
- 33:17trying to kick the issue. You need to learn though that etha that makes
- 33:21it so burned slow? Is he dame diddy, Dame daddy or dame dummy.
- 33:27Oh I get it, you biggie, and he puffy then he put
- 33:31the man. When that came out, y'all, it was literally what you
- 33:37have witnessed today with Drake kind of his celebrity and his popularity looming larger than
- 33:46Kendrick Lamar, even with Kendrick Lamar's accolades to be set down to the shadow
- 33:53realm based off of old school back and forth battling. That's exactly what Now
- 34:00did with he He poked. He was truly poked the bear, and once
- 34:05ether came out, no one cared what he came out with. Now we
- 34:08did for a second like, oh we got it super ugly, okay,
- 34:13But then we was like, nah, he just mad because this ain't even
- 34:15like good on some rapping stuff. Jay Z's way better than this, and
- 34:20we know what happened later in the Blueprint two and all that, But the
- 34:22battle was over, Etha, it was over. But at number one,
- 34:28it's Tupac's hit him Up. Now. Not gonna go too long because we
- 34:35having some technical difficulties with the audio and the video, but let me just
- 34:39say this, hit him Up is not number one. There's so many reasons
- 34:46why it's not number one. It has nothing to do with Brooklyn, has
- 34:50nothing to do with Biggie or me personally being a Biggie fan. I think
- 34:55against our odds is way better, way better. Tupac disrecord for a number
- 35:02of reasons than hit him up. Sure, when you go to hit him
- 35:07up, it's the beat, you know, player's anthem. It's Tupac flipping
- 35:13the grab your if you love hip hop, to grab your glocks when you
- 35:16see Tupac, call the cops when you see too, Like all of that
- 35:21was ill. First verse was Tupac. It was venom. I even like
- 35:27in the beginning when he's kind of like talking kind of low like no friends,
- 35:30like he about to set it. I love that part of it,
- 35:34but it's literally a verse from an hook from Tupac and then some talking.
- 35:40The minute the outlaws get out the way, Yo, get out the way.
- 35:45I'm like, Nah, we don't want to hear from y'all. We
- 35:52only want to hear from pot. Why is this the dis record? To
- 35:57me? That knocks it down a peg? Everybody else named in that top
- 36:01ten is straight up them putting in work against their rivals, against all odds.
- 36:08It's so dope because not only is it dis records aimed at rap rivals,
- 36:14but also street dudes. And I felt like, when you talking lyricism,
- 36:21that's probably one of the best Tupac songs ever against all odds, just
- 36:24be the really ever wrote truth that spoke against all odds up in the studio
- 36:31getting blown like it's just a way better record and it's all Tupac and it's
- 36:38everything he has to say. So it's hit him up a top ten.
- 36:43I think so in a lot of ways because if anything is ten right,
- 36:49because you can't get away from the fact that it is a disrecord, right
- 36:53that had a video that had Tupac going at Biggie and every Junior Mafia and
- 37:00Mob Deep and all of that. But at the same time, it's just
- 37:07not to me. It was more of a shock value thing. See,
- 37:12the takeover had the shock value of jay Z just coming out and saying,
- 37:16assnas, he don't want it, well hold right, so he was challenging
- 37:21him. But then he did a whole verse breakdown and the rest of the
- 37:24song is about other guys and stuff like that, right, and jay Z
- 37:29really don't have had a verse about nots when you think about it, But
- 37:31it's not the same because it's a whole disc record featuring jay Z talking about
- 37:37all these rifles, right, including nots. He just dedicated one verse two
- 37:43nons specifically. And also, it wasn't really a battle between Tupac and Biggie
- 37:51because Biggie never really responded and some people use that to say, well,
- 37:55yo, he lost because he never responded. And I don't know if it
- 38:00was ever truly a battle because all of this stuff happened within like, let's
- 38:07just say a year, All of this energy from POC, all of the
- 38:09you know, west Side, all of that was like ninety six and then
- 38:14he was dead before the year ended. So if anything, if Biggie would
- 38:21have released the record on his album, which came out March the next year,
- 38:24it would have been tacky anyway, right because he died. But even
- 38:30before Tupac died, I mean we hear that certain people that Biggie wanted to
- 38:36do it, or certain people say, yeah, he was this in Tupac
- 38:37on hair, but it was leaded blah blah blah. But one thing that
- 38:42was clear because Big said it, and it was being said by multiple people
- 38:45at the time. That's not what Puff wanted him to focus on. He
- 38:51didn't want to get rouled up in a back and forth on record because he
- 38:54wanted to get this money. And I think Big was listening to Puff because
- 39:00again, when you didn't want to rhyme over juicy because you thought it'd be
- 39:04whack, but you did it because this guy said it would be a hit.
- 39:07And then this guy was right, and you realize you need to listen
- 39:13to him to a fault because he also listened to him going out to La
- 39:17around that time that you could see him wanting to That's why you get all
- 39:22these Biggie subliminals about pot and certain songs. But he couldn't just come out
- 39:30and just make a disrecord because I think he would have been happy to do
- 39:32so, and he sort of did the same thing with the nases and stuff
- 39:37like that on kicking the door. So in a lot of ways, you
- 39:40can't say he was afraid of that smoke because everybody seen the video Biggie come
- 39:45from Battle Rap he battle in front of the boat Degga outside. So it's
- 39:49not about not wanting to do it. But if you see in a certain
- 39:52level of success and the guy who's helping run the label says, yo,
- 39:59we're not doing it, you know you probably just listen now. Also again,
- 40:04Tupac dying probably pulled all that energy out of big anyway, because now
- 40:10Tupac's not even here, so you're not gonna dis them. But for this
- 40:15list, I think a lot of what's in the top ten is right.
- 40:19I just may have a different order. If I had to pick a number
- 40:24one of all time, well, let's not say that we read that and
- 40:30the Bridges Over was not in the top ten. How does that work?
- 40:36The bridge is Over is like ether in a lot of ways, is like
- 40:40no vasaline in a lot of ways. It's a career crushing type joint.
- 40:47I'm going to say, in no order. Top five to me would be
- 40:55Ether, no Vasaline, Bridges Over, and then these two slots become a
- 41:05balance between I don't know and maybe so right, I think Meet the Grams
- 41:13makes it into the top five because the more you listen, the more the
- 41:16more the other songs and the responses are tied to the situations with Drake that
- 41:23it just becomes crazy, right, Like you can see, the thought process
- 41:30is beyond methodical. This we called. We say to those other records like
- 41:35he dissected him, No, meet the Grants. It's a dissection of your
- 41:40rifle. There's so there's that, and I would I would put Drake in
- 41:49in Back to Back, and it's not about beats or was he as nice
- 41:52as the rest of them. I just think we got to a point,
- 41:57especially with that battle and again with battle with him and Kendrick. I think
- 42:02Drake's timing and everything he said in Back to Back at that point in time
- 42:09was just glorious to watch. And it's not even the greatest beat, it's
- 42:13not the greatest flow. It was the timing and the fact that he was
- 42:16playing me no big time. And again, there are other records. Now
- 42:22I haven't gone through the one hundred, but there are other records that to
- 42:27me could fall in the top ten or that I feel like should be on
- 42:31this list, like second round knockout from Cannabis. I think, drop a
- 42:36gem on him where Prodigy gets to respond to Tupacs, hit him up and
- 42:40stuff. He say, you know, I have the whole New York State
- 42:44aim in that face. You know, like what else you say? You
- 42:50catch your flashbacks of robberies in Manhattan? You know what happened? Sixty g's
- 42:53worth of gun clapping? Who shot you? You probably screamed loud in the
- 42:57opera New York gotcha? Now you want to use my mob as a crutch,
- 43:00which you think you can't get bucked again once again back in the house
- 43:06like probably he was getting crazy now he didn't respond to jay Z like that
- 43:09because I think that sledgehammer joint just just baby pictures. They just killed him.
- 43:16But I said all that to say list a subjective. We all have
- 43:22our favorites. That list moves around because that common diss is crazy too,
- 43:28And you know, at the end of the day, it's battling as a
- 43:32part of hip hop, you know, having some of these old school artists
- 43:37and people saying it's counterproductive and da da da, I mean you ain't paying
- 43:40attention, Homie is very productive. Ask Kendrick if it's counter productive. It's
- 43:47very productive. And the thing is is if this promotes Kendrick to be a
- 43:53bigger artist than he already is, it's in good hands because he's not going
- 44:00to create some garbage fluff music when he decides to drop an album. It's
- 44:07not counterproductive. What's probably counterproductive is, you know, during that stretch,
- 44:14I think a lot of people weren't paying attention to any other music getting dropped
- 44:19at all. They had the eyes of the hip hop community and outside of
- 44:23that on them. But I think it's back to business now. So we
- 44:28got Ghosts and we got Rhapsody, and we got a new Conway album,
- 44:31we got a mac Hombie album. Like, we're back in business. So
- 44:36you know, don't it's fine, you know, but it's hip hop,
- 44:40man. It's battling and it's going to be things. And nobody got hurt.
- 44:45And you know, if things happen, and you can't really tie it
- 44:49to people sitting there with their pens, because sometimes it happens with people who
- 44:54are outside of hip hop and some will say, well it's because of well
- 44:59guess what. There's plenty of people getting murdered across the world, and it
- 45:02ain't because of no hip hop records. So hip hop ain't really adding to
- 45:07something that's going to happen anyway. So let's just focus on the art form
- 45:13and the true nature of competition, which is what it was, and let's
- 45:19just have fun with hip hop because that's the thing. It was fun to
- 45:22be online talking, debating, looking at this, watching breakdowns, making videos
- 45:28myself, talking to people who are hip hop heads, you know, about
- 45:32this and that, and how drake joints sound and how Kendrick's joints sound.
- 45:37This records is a part of hip hop, the conversation, the competition,
- 45:40this is all a part of it. It's always been there always, So
- 45:45it's not counterproductive today because you're older and they're not talking about what you got
- 45:52put now. I'm checking for you. But let's not hate because this attention
- 46:00is dominating everything in the press because you know it's over now, you know,
- 46:06just new music from Drake and Kendrick is all I want to head.
- 46:07That's it. I wan't hand them on dis records from them too, that's
- 46:10it. I want to hand them over. We got enough. So what
- 46:14do you think about that? Top one hundred list. Think you should check
- 46:17it out if you've never heard some of the records, they have links to
- 46:22some of them on that website on hip hopbx dot com. Let me know
- 46:27what you think. Do you think Hit Him Up should be number one?
- 46:30Do you think there's a song in that list but that's not in the top
- 46:34ten that should be there. Leave your comments in a comment sation below.
