- 0:18Speaker 1: Return to Glory Podcast August eleven, Hunter Sarberniki, Austin Rose,
- 0:25Speaker 1: Dakota Free Tag Offensive preview for the corn Huskers coming
- 0:32Speaker 1: at you today. Before we get into that, I want
- 0:36Speaker 1: to talk a little bit about some of the news
- 0:38Speaker 1: happening this week, which not much besides a couple of
- 0:43Speaker 1: the injuries that have occurred. Now, I will say when
- 0:47Speaker 1: we say injuries, and I think when Rul talks about
- 0:49Speaker 1: them too, there's obviously the guys that get like banged up,
- 0:53Speaker 1: right like, But then we have the season that ending
- 0:57Speaker 1: ones macmark Way was the one that happened last week
- 1:01Speaker 1: at the tight end position.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Bly Hill.
- 1:03Speaker 1: I'm a guy that was gonna have probably a pretty
- 1:05Speaker 1: significant impact on special teams. He's out for the year.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Maybe place him in the secondary as well. Anything else
- 1:14Speaker 1: I'm missing or anybody else, I don't think.
- 1:16Speaker 3: So there was some other person that got hurt, but
- 1:18Speaker 3: I the name didn't even ring a bell.
- 1:21Speaker 4: So something's gonna impact us too much.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Well, we'll get into it later.
- 1:25Speaker 5: But I don't know how good that tight end was,
- 1:27Speaker 5: like I heard, but anytime you're losing it tight end
- 1:29Speaker 5: right now.
- 1:29Speaker 2: That's not good.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean he's been banged up. He was out
- 1:34Speaker 1: last year too for the same injury, so not great. Well, yeah,
- 1:40Speaker 1: the tight end position is one that's probably not our
- 1:42Speaker 1: deepest right now.
- 1:48Speaker 3: We'll get to it, though I don't want to, you know,
- 1:50Speaker 3: unless that's where we want to start with the tight end,
- 1:53Speaker 3: We're not starting to jump into it.
- 1:57Speaker 1: I guess other thing, Troy Dannon spoke the other day
- 2:01Speaker 1: and just wanted to get your guys' thoughts on on Troy.
- 2:04Speaker 1: We haven't talked about him a lot, you know. Our
- 2:06Speaker 1: new ad that came would have been about two years ago,
- 2:12Speaker 1: a year and a half ago at least, came right
- 2:14Speaker 1: the NCAA Tournament game in Memphis for the basketball team.
- 2:21Speaker 1: That's when he started. He's been here now for a
- 2:22Speaker 1: little bit. I haven't heard a lot about him, but
- 2:26Speaker 1: he spoke a little bit about the football team and
- 2:28Speaker 1: his plan for using Memorial Stadium, uh for other events
- 2:35Speaker 1: as well, not just football games, you know, the like
- 2:40Speaker 1: similar things to what the volleyball team did a couple
- 2:43Speaker 1: of years ago, but you know, concerts. I heard maybe
- 2:48Speaker 1: like but yeah, if I I heard like a Savannah
- 2:52Speaker 1: bananas and maybe not just using the football stadium, but
- 2:55Speaker 1: like just other facilities to bring in revenue. He talked
- 2:59Speaker 1: about a little bit about our schedule on Friday night games.
- 3:02Speaker 1: How he doesn't he doesn't mind the Friday night games.
- 3:04Speaker 1: You know, some schools aka Ohio State really complains about those,
- 3:10Speaker 1: which they haven't even played in any I don't think,
- 3:12Speaker 1: but probably oh No, Ohio State was complaining about the
- 3:17Speaker 1: noon games. That's what they were complaining about.
- 3:20Speaker 2: And they kick one off the year.
- 3:22Speaker 4: Yep, life's tough. Poor Neon games or baby is I
- 3:31Speaker 4: like that?
- 3:31Speaker 1: Any thoughts on Troy Gain?
- 3:33Speaker 3: I mean, I.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Think he stayed out of the news, which is usually
- 3:37Speaker 1: a good thing. If you're an a D you don't
- 3:39Speaker 1: want to be the one making headlines. But to me,
- 3:44Speaker 1: I think he's done a good job so far. Like
- 3:46Speaker 1: I think he's got a good picture and a good
- 3:48Speaker 1: vision for the program. I think he's also young enough
- 3:52Speaker 1: and has a visionary mindset with all the new stuff
- 3:55Speaker 1: going on. If you have a leadership team that's aking
- 4:00Speaker 1: behind the times, you're in trouble and very much uh
- 4:06Speaker 1: financially focused, which is fine, that's what they're supposed to do.
- 4:10Speaker 3: But with Trev he felt a little more and you know,
- 4:15Speaker 3: program focused and Troy feels a little more financial focused,
- 4:19Speaker 3: which is fine. There's two different approaches for a job
- 4:22Speaker 3: that's very much involved in both.
- 4:27Speaker 1: And the money now is what's speaking there. Yeah, there's
- 4:32Speaker 1: plenty of other issues going on.
- 4:36Speaker 4: You know, you need.
- 4:37Speaker 3: Money to have good programs, and you know federal money
- 4:41Speaker 3: is drying up, and so he's got a lot, a
- 4:45Speaker 3: lot of stuff to.
- 4:46Speaker 5: Figure out, like you, Like you said, the ad is
- 4:49Speaker 5: kind of like the line, the less you hear their name,
- 4:52Speaker 5: the better. Just stay on the news. And trav Trevor
- 4:57Speaker 5: loved to make headlines and news all time. He's all
- 5:00Speaker 5: always saying stuff.
- 5:04Speaker 1: I don't want to talk about TV.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Why not?
- 5:09Speaker 4: It's one day. Let's start on a good note.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Okay, there was. There was one part of that press conference
- 5:17Speaker 2: he came out with he.
- 5:18Speaker 5: Said, no, I don't know if it's fully sold out yet,
- 5:23Speaker 5: but there's sixty thousand Husker tickets sold, six thousand Cincinnati
- 5:26Speaker 5: tickets sold for the Kansas City game.
- 5:30Speaker 4: Back, do the math.
- 5:31Speaker 1: What percentage of Husker fans is that ten percent?
- 5:34Speaker 2: Cincinnati Huskers pretty close.
- 5:37Speaker 4: Good job, so they must not be sold out. So
- 5:40Speaker 4: it's only sixty six thousand tickets.
- 5:42Speaker 5: But I know it's yeah, he says it will be
- 5:46Speaker 5: sold out, which which that is a Cincinnati home game.
- 5:49Speaker 2: So if you do the math still is right.
- 5:54Speaker 4: What do you mean it's not at all.
- 5:56Speaker 5: I don't know why. Why did they agree to play
- 5:58Speaker 5: this in Kansas City.
- 6:00Speaker 3: I think Indianapolis kicked them out. I don't know, Travis Kelcey,
- 6:05Speaker 3: I have no idea.
- 6:06Speaker 4: Guys.
- 6:06Speaker 1: It's it's revenue thing all for them. Like I think
- 6:09Speaker 1: you know, initially it Wasn'tcinnati, It's true game, and then
- 6:12Speaker 1: it went to Indianapolis.
- 6:15Speaker 4: Cincinnati gets a good cut of the money, whether it's Husker.
- 6:17Speaker 3: Fans or not correct, and then they get more people
- 6:22Speaker 3: will go if it's in case.
- 6:26Speaker 2: The end zones b Cincinnati.
- 6:29Speaker 1: No, So now the stadium sits. It's like split and
- 6:33Speaker 1: I'm going to mess up the end zones if I
- 6:35Speaker 1: try to say it. But it's one end zone in
- 6:36Speaker 1: the sideline Cincinnati, and then one end zone and the
- 6:40Speaker 1: sidelines Nebraska. So when you go to purchase your tickets,
- 6:45Speaker 1: like you, Nebraska fans are obviously trying to pick the
- 6:47Speaker 1: Nebraska side, but you.
- 6:49Speaker 4: Don't have to if it's a ninety fan.
- 6:55Speaker 1: I don't think there will be a section of Cincinnati
- 6:58Speaker 1: fans that are all Maybe they'll be like a little
- 6:59Speaker 1: parent section that they reserve for them, but there'll be
- 7:02Speaker 1: Cincinnati fans kind of spread throughout. It won't be like
- 7:06Speaker 1: they're supposed to be. But I think Huscar fans have
- 7:08Speaker 1: bought the Cincinnati tickets. I'm guessing at.
- 7:13Speaker 4: This point that's totally fine.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Yeah, so you know, it'll it'll, it'll. It'll be a
- 7:19Speaker 1: home game for us as far as the crowd goes.
- 7:22Speaker 1: It will still be a road game in the aspect
- 7:25Speaker 1: that you're still traveling. You're obviously not at your home field,
- 7:29Speaker 1: playing on your home turf. But the crowd will definitely
- 7:33Speaker 1: be in favor of us, which I think it's pretty
- 7:38Speaker 1: big here to start to hear. We need to win
- 7:42Speaker 1: that game. Guys, it's I get I get nervous more.
- 7:46Speaker 1: I'm getting more nervous than excited. I think I've been
- 7:48Speaker 1: excited for a long time. I'm getting now more nervous
- 7:51Speaker 1: just because this stupid first game bug that we have
- 7:56Speaker 1: and playing somebody that has good enough to beat us, Like.
- 8:03Speaker 4: And you're going to the game, Oh yeah, you know.
- 8:08Speaker 2: Okay, here's the here's the actual numbers.
- 8:10Speaker 5: Six two thousand, tickets have been sold in ten percent
- 8:13Speaker 5: of that Cincinnati Soskar fans and Airhead a whole same
- 8:19Speaker 5: six thousand.
- 8:20Speaker 2: They'll they'll get to that.
- 8:20Speaker 4: So I saw Michigan was the only sellout so.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Far and for the big House. All right, Offense, We're
- 8:36Speaker 1: gonna do a deep dive here into each position, talk
- 8:40Speaker 1: about the the coaches, what to expect from the offensive
- 8:46Speaker 1: side of the ball, talk about the players. Figure out
- 8:49Speaker 1: who we think needs to have a breakout year or
- 8:52Speaker 1: is going to have a breakout year some guys maybe
- 8:54Speaker 1: to watch. I think throughout spring and fall camp you
- 8:59Speaker 1: probably year. If you follow Huscar football in depth and
- 9:02Speaker 1: listen to other podcasts of the news, you probably hear
- 9:05Speaker 1: a ton about a lot of different guys. And will
- 9:09Speaker 1: we anybody know the exact team that gets rolled out
- 9:13Speaker 1: on the first Thursday. No, but it's fun to talk about.
- 9:19Speaker 1: We've kind of avoided going into too much depth and
- 9:21Speaker 1: saving it for this episode. The defense special teams we
- 9:28Speaker 1: will do tomorrow or Thursday, not tomorrow. Let's we'll get
- 9:33Speaker 1: to that in a bit. So we're gonna focus strictly
- 9:35Speaker 1: on offense here and Dana Holgerson's group as his first
- 9:40Speaker 1: full year of offensive coordinators. So before we dive into
- 9:44Speaker 1: players and positions, I want to talk about Dana for
- 9:47Speaker 1: a little bit. First year. Oh see, obviously had four
- 9:54Speaker 1: or five games last year to end the season. Came
- 9:57Speaker 1: from West Virginia, oklahom the state been known for, as
- 10:04Speaker 1: Dak says, and what he thinks, we're just gonna throw
- 10:06Speaker 1: their raid and sling it around, as he mentioned a
- 10:10Speaker 1: couple of episodes ago. Dana, in my mind, I'm intrigued
- 10:18Speaker 1: by what he's going to bring. But I think the
- 10:21Speaker 1: most important thing that you have to call out is
- 10:25Speaker 1: he understands offense to an x's no standpoint very very well,
- 10:30Speaker 1: and regardless of what we're running. I think that piece
- 10:34Speaker 1: in itself, well, it's very broad. I think it's very
- 10:38Speaker 1: important that he's got a lot of experience and he's
- 10:43Speaker 1: a I'm not gonna call him like the mad scientist
- 10:46Speaker 1: prototype of offensive coordinators, but I kind of think of
- 10:49Speaker 1: him a little bit that way, maybe a little more
- 10:52Speaker 1: like roughed up version given his appearance factored in there too.
- 10:59Speaker 1: I think he knows offense very well, and whether we're
- 11:02Speaker 1: running the air raid, we're running some variation of it,
- 11:07Speaker 1: it's going to help. I have faith in that. He
- 11:11Speaker 1: was one that was behind a lot of the mesh
- 11:15Speaker 1: type concept that kind of got created ten to fifteen
- 11:20Speaker 1: years ago, which for those of you that don't know
- 11:23Speaker 1: what that is, those are like the crossing routes across
- 11:25Speaker 1: the middle, whether you run with tight ends receivers that
- 11:28Speaker 1: you're you're not hitting the defenders, but you're just running
- 11:32Speaker 1: right by them and you're not setting illegal screens, but
- 11:36Speaker 1: you get in the way of the defenders and opens
- 11:38Speaker 1: up crossing routes when they're in man coverage zone routes
- 11:42Speaker 1: you can kind of find the hole. So he was
- 11:44Speaker 1: one that was kind of behind a lot of that
- 11:46Speaker 1: in creating that. So any my high level take is
- 11:50Speaker 1: I'm excited because he understands the offense and obviously he's
- 11:53Speaker 1: got some tools and some pieces to work with. But
- 11:56Speaker 1: I don't I don't have many hesitations. I guess when
- 12:01Speaker 1: it comes to Dana Holgerson and my belief for faith.
- 12:04Speaker 3: In him, I agree. I feel better about him than Sadderfield,
- 12:13Speaker 3: that's for sure.
- 12:14Speaker 1: I mean named the last oc that you felt Scott
- 12:19Speaker 1: Frost as a head coach offensive head coach.
- 12:23Speaker 4: Beyond that, gosh, it's been a while.
- 12:30Speaker 3: No Mark Whipple, No Mark Whipple, I did feel care
- 12:36Speaker 3: about vote Mark Whipple.
- 12:38Speaker 4: It don't I'm not gonna talk about Mark Whipple. I
- 12:41Speaker 4: will Mark Whipple run.
- 12:44Speaker 1: No.
- 12:44Speaker 3: You look at the numbers last year because he was
- 12:46Speaker 3: the o C the last four games counting the Bowl game,
- 12:51Speaker 3: and statistically the numbers weren't that much different. But he's
- 12:54Speaker 3: much more efficient. The run game was more efficient, the
- 12:57Speaker 3: past game was more efficient. I remember the Wisconsin game
- 13:02Speaker 3: being like, oh, Ship, this could be fun. So hopefully
- 13:08Speaker 3: a whole other year, well, I guess not even a
- 13:11Speaker 3: whole other year and offseason with you know, Dylan improving
- 13:16Speaker 3: and uh he got his wide receivers coach in key
- 13:21Speaker 3: or not Shorts Dy. I can't think it was his
- 13:25Speaker 3: first name and it starts with the D s. Yes,
- 13:30Speaker 3: so hopefully that helps as well. I don't know I
- 13:35Speaker 3: like him as an OC. I won't at this point.
- 13:37Speaker 3: I don't want him as my head coach, but I'm
- 13:40Speaker 3: more than happy to give him run an OC.
- 13:44Speaker 5: I mean, it shows how bad Saddfield was last year
- 13:47Speaker 5: that he could come in and just throw together at
- 13:49Speaker 5: four games completely changed the offense, which I've said what
- 13:55Speaker 5: I thought about Sadfield.
- 13:56Speaker 2: So I won't.
- 14:00Speaker 4: I don't.
- 14:00Speaker 2: I don't actually think that they're gonna run the air raid.
- 14:02Speaker 2: I hope they do. They's gonna be.
- 14:06Speaker 1: So do you think do you think that would benefit
- 14:08Speaker 1: Nebraska football to run the five hour air raid?
- 14:12Speaker 2: The fans or the team both?
- 14:15Speaker 1: Yeah, the team, like, do you think that will help us?
- 14:18Speaker 2: No? No, not not?
- 14:19Speaker 1: Why do you hope that we do it?
- 14:21Speaker 2: Because it's the fans side of it, it'd be awesome
- 14:24Speaker 2: to watch. I think, of.
- 14:25Speaker 1: Course, you are just the sucker fan an.
- 14:29Speaker 2: I think it'd be so much fun to watch an
- 14:30Speaker 2: area in the Big Ten.
- 14:31Speaker 1: And you're the You are the problem that Nebraska football
- 14:35Speaker 1: took a decline in getting away from the option heavy
- 14:38Speaker 1: you run. You're the problem.
- 14:40Speaker 4: You know f it. I'll say it.
- 14:42Speaker 5: I think I think it would help Nebraska from the area,
- 14:47Speaker 5: the hard receivers they have.
- 14:49Speaker 2: In the speed, I think it would in.
- 14:51Speaker 1: The Big Ten. They'll let me argue. I could argue
- 14:54Speaker 1: about this the whole podcast deck, and you are not
- 14:56Speaker 1: gonna win. Yes, in the Big Ten. You think you
- 14:59Speaker 1: think that's the best option, just like Wisconsin did last year.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Yes, Wisconsin didn't have anything to run it.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Oh, so you think we have all the pieces that
- 15:08Speaker 1: run the air raid. Yes, and you think you think
- 15:11Speaker 1: in the Big ten that's the type offense as success
- 15:13Speaker 1: when you don't have the best players in the league.
- 15:16Speaker 2: I do with with the way your team set up right.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Now, Yes, based off of what evidence dack, there's no
- 15:28Speaker 1: obvious but.
- 15:29Speaker 4: The zag here Hunter could be.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Whatever it is is there what we're good.
- 15:36Speaker 1: I'm not saying what we're currently doing. I'm just saying
- 15:38Speaker 1: I don't want to run the air raid. I want
- 15:40Speaker 1: to run the ball more. And and I do thinks
- 15:44Speaker 1: is going to have I think it's going to be
- 15:47Speaker 1: very balanced in what we decide to do.
- 15:49Speaker 4: But say two years ago, we ran the ball seventy
- 15:52Speaker 4: percent of the time.
- 15:56Speaker 1: And we were we were in about every.
- 15:58Speaker 4: Game we were we lost them all.
- 16:01Speaker 1: But I don't think we need to make drastic well
- 16:07Speaker 1: I say that, and we hired three to coordinators, but
- 16:09Speaker 1: drastic overall changes. I mean, we're we just we got
- 16:15Speaker 1: we gotta find a way to win. And that's the
- 16:18Speaker 1: big thing. And and Rules said it the other the
- 16:20Speaker 1: other day in a press conference when asked that question.
- 16:25Speaker 1: He just made the comment that we have to get better.
- 16:29Speaker 1: When you have better players, and so Dak arguing on
- 16:33Speaker 1: your side a little a little bit here, He's like,
- 16:36Speaker 1: once you get better players, you start to win those games.
- 16:39Speaker 1: And and all these guys that we had last year
- 16:41Speaker 1: that played, you know, we just got a little bit better,
- 16:44Speaker 1: got a little bit better, brought in from guys made
- 16:46Speaker 1: us a little bit better. And then once you get
- 16:47Speaker 1: better players, you start to win more close games, which
- 16:50Speaker 1: in simplest terms is probably not a horrible way of
- 16:52Speaker 1: looking at it. But again, until we see it, I
- 16:57Speaker 1: won't believe it. So hopefully we can do that.
- 17:01Speaker 5: Would you rather run what Michigan did last year where
- 17:03Speaker 5: they literally would not throw the ball?
- 17:06Speaker 1: Well, No, Dak, because I think we do have a
- 17:08Speaker 1: quarterback that can throw it a little bit. Do I
- 17:12Speaker 1: want to run Iowa's offense. No, But as Iowa's offense
- 17:18Speaker 1: won them nine or ten games in the Big Ten
- 17:20Speaker 1: about every year, defense in their defense.
- 17:24Speaker 3: Like their offense has lost them. I would not say
- 17:28Speaker 3: their offense has.
- 17:29Speaker 4: Won them any game.
- 17:30Speaker 3: It's been literally had more touchdows in their offense like
- 17:33Speaker 3: last year something like, it's.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Been complimentary to their defense because they that's it. I
- 17:39Speaker 1: don't get Do I think Iowa will ever win anything. No, Like,
- 17:44Speaker 1: I don't think so with their offense, I don't think.
- 17:46Speaker 1: I don't think you have potential to do that. So
- 17:48Speaker 1: it's not Iowa's offense, but it's a combination.
- 17:50Speaker 4: We haven't watched their off season hype videos.
- 17:53Speaker 5: Hey, their quarterback in the spring game went nine to
- 17:55Speaker 5: twenty one with a pick pick six, and so yeah,
- 18:02Speaker 5: this this stuff they're talking about.
- 18:06Speaker 4: I mean talking about passing and running.
- 18:08Speaker 3: Last year, we did lead the Big Ten in time
- 18:10Speaker 3: possession and we were like top we were like number
- 18:12Speaker 3: four in the nation something crazy.
- 18:16Speaker 4: So even though we weren't, I mean, it was close
- 18:18Speaker 4: to a fifty to fifty.
- 18:19Speaker 3: I don't know what the actual split was, but I
- 18:21Speaker 3: think it's pretty dang close.
- 18:24Speaker 4: I think that could work.
- 18:26Speaker 1: And I think as we've talked about having a controlled offense,
- 18:35Speaker 1: understanding the clock like we've seen the opposite side of it.
- 18:38Speaker 1: It really helps your defense from a rest standpoint, from
- 18:42Speaker 1: a schematic standpoint like it does, and I think we
- 18:45Speaker 1: saw that last year. What the benefits of that are
- 18:49Speaker 1: now again, do we need to run the clock down
- 18:51Speaker 1: to two every time? No, but having a good balance
- 18:56Speaker 1: on offense not going three and out. Scott Frost. Throwing
- 19:00Speaker 1: swing passes like that definitely helps the trauma.
- 19:08Speaker 4: Is the swing past Scott across swing past? I have
- 19:11Speaker 4: thought that, Well, that was.
- 19:12Speaker 5: A moment, you know, actually try to get the first
- 19:17Speaker 5: down third and eight instead of just giving up giving
- 19:19Speaker 5: them the ball right back.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Yeah. So all right, Well let's dive into positions a
- 19:25Speaker 1: little deeper here. And every year I think we talk
- 19:28Speaker 1: about where to start at this episode. You know, I
- 19:33Speaker 1: think we've last couple of years, we've gone to the
- 19:35Speaker 1: offensive line. I'm I'm gonna start with the position that
- 19:41Speaker 1: it's the man's team, it's his program right now, and
- 19:44Speaker 1: we're going there with Dylan Royal and the quarterback. Obviously
- 19:48Speaker 1: we still believe the offensive line. It starts there, but
- 19:51Speaker 1: it is Dylan Royl's football team from a out every
- 19:56Speaker 1: way you can, we can grab it if you ask
- 19:58Speaker 1: anybody in the but probably nationally, you know who is
- 20:04Speaker 1: who is Nebraska football right now? From a player's name,
- 20:06Speaker 1: But name the one guy everybody staying Dylan Ryola. And
- 20:09Speaker 1: it's not even a question. He's the clear QB one.
- 20:13Speaker 1: As Roal even said the other day, it's not even
- 20:18Speaker 1: a question that he's starting. Last year, Remember it last
- 20:21Speaker 1: year at this time, while we kind of knew rule
- 20:25Speaker 1: did not want to name Ryl the starter, and we
- 20:28Speaker 1: didn't know that at this time, but it's it's been
- 20:31Speaker 1: clear since the season got over that he will be
- 20:33Speaker 1: our starting quarterback for this year and he's made strides
- 20:37Speaker 1: in doing so. And not only that, he's been a
- 20:39Speaker 1: probably our best recruiter from getting guys to come in
- 20:43Speaker 1: as well and setting the direction for the program. So
- 20:46Speaker 1: on the field, Dylan's seemed to get his body right
- 20:53Speaker 1: and that was a big top conversation that we brought up. Again.
- 20:58Speaker 1: Have we seen it live and action, No, but he
- 21:01Speaker 1: does look the part now and I know that was
- 21:04Speaker 1: a big thing for him in the off season. His
- 21:07Speaker 1: intangible part of the game is I think the most valuable.
- 21:11Speaker 1: Obviously he's got a lot of skill that goes along
- 21:14Speaker 1: with that, but Dylan's our leader and and and we're
- 21:18Speaker 1: going to go from a momentum, from a a drive
- 21:23Speaker 1: and energy level, We're going to go as he goes
- 21:27Speaker 1: from the oppositive side of the ball, and how he
- 21:30Speaker 1: meshes with Dana's concepts is the part that's we kind
- 21:34Speaker 1: of saw glimpses of, but we don't exactly know and
- 21:37Speaker 1: everything we are going to see in the fall. So
- 21:42Speaker 1: very excited for Dylan, to the point that almost, you know,
- 21:45Speaker 1: you don't even talk about it. I don't even when
- 21:46Speaker 1: you're talking about it with with other people, your friend's family,
- 21:50Speaker 1: Like you don't even really Dylan up too much because
- 21:53Speaker 1: you just you feel good about.
- 21:54Speaker 3: It, right, He's the known entity. It's like, yeah, there's
- 21:57Speaker 3: no question, like we're we all feel comfortable with it,
- 22:00Speaker 3: and not that there's no question about well it's going
- 22:01Speaker 3: to go comfortable, you know, there's no like, well, I
- 22:05Speaker 3: don't know, maybe Jalen Grahamstad you know, might be the
- 22:08Speaker 3: better option. It's like, no, Dylan is the best option.
- 22:12Speaker 3: He was solid last year as a true freshman. I
- 22:15Speaker 3: think we all expect him to take some make some improvements,
- 22:18Speaker 3: maybe a few more I don't know, better decisions, maybe
- 22:23Speaker 3: a little more mobile in the pocket. But even then,
- 22:25Speaker 3: like I don't. Again, it's been a year. I've had
- 22:30Speaker 3: a kid, so the memory is foggier than he used
- 22:33Speaker 3: to be.
- 22:36Speaker 4: But I don't.
- 22:37Speaker 3: Really remember a lot of times last year being like
- 22:39Speaker 3: what the heck are you doing? That was a boneheaded play?
- 22:42Speaker 3: I mean, not that didn't happen, but it was.
- 22:46Speaker 4: It was.
- 22:48Speaker 1: It would have been probably holding the ball a little
- 22:50Speaker 1: bit too long in the pocket, and a couple of
- 22:52Speaker 1: times that he did get out and run and you
- 22:54Speaker 1: wanted him to run like he would slide before the
- 22:57Speaker 1: first down, like like he.
- 23:00Speaker 4: Would hold it too long, but he'd you know, he didn't.
- 23:04Speaker 3: It wasn't like an interception or you know, it didn't
- 23:06Speaker 3: always result in a sack like he got rid of it,
- 23:08Speaker 3: but it's like, what are you doing?
- 23:09Speaker 4: When are you holding it so long? But it did
- 23:11Speaker 4: feel like it was that larger penalty.
- 23:14Speaker 3: So I agree, I don't think there's that much to
- 23:15Speaker 3: talk about him, Dak try to talk about him, let's
- 23:20Speaker 3: hear it.
- 23:22Speaker 5: I feel like that's a lot of freshmen stuff is
- 23:25Speaker 5: holding the ball and too long in processing.
- 23:28Speaker 2: Yeah, the main thing is in.
- 23:33Speaker 5: We So we are talking about with the last o
- 23:36Speaker 5: see that you're comfortable with who was last quarterback coming
- 23:38Speaker 5: into the season that you're like, okay, we're find that
- 23:41Speaker 5: position Adrian Martinez.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, I mean it's been a few years, but
- 23:46Speaker 1: we were known for starring freshmen and riding him out
- 23:50Speaker 1: for four years. I mean we've done that several times
- 23:52Speaker 1: in our lifetime.
- 23:54Speaker 2: Tanner Lee's the answer to that.
- 23:58Speaker 4: Yes, I remember going into that year.
- 24:02Speaker 5: So I didn't I didn't know this, which is terrible.
- 24:05Speaker 5: Nebraska is one hundred and third ranked offense last year.
- 24:09Speaker 1: I mean I thought it actually could be worse.
- 24:13Speaker 2: I mean a lot of that has to do with
- 24:16Speaker 2: dumb nuts. Mean Nero c.
- 24:17Speaker 1: But you just call Marcus Sadderfield dumb nuts.
- 24:23Speaker 5: Yes, that guy is a idiot anyway.
- 24:28Speaker 2: But the main, the main thing I want to see
- 24:29Speaker 2: Ryla do.
- 24:30Speaker 5: And I've said this many times and he's talked with
- 24:33Speaker 5: all his wadies, last run run the ball more. When
- 24:35Speaker 5: you have that open field, take off and run.
- 24:39Speaker 1: So, Dak are you this is a topic, dude? You
- 24:43Speaker 1: do you envision more designed runs this year from data
- 24:47Speaker 1: or and I'm not saying a lot, yeah, but yeah,
- 24:51Speaker 1: are you are you thinking more? I mean there's a
- 24:53Speaker 1: fine line. What are you seeing when you say Dylan
- 24:55Speaker 1: are running the ball? What does that mean?
- 24:58Speaker 5: I was thinking more along the lines of when there's
- 25:02Speaker 5: when there's ten yards open table.
- 25:04Speaker 4: Home scramble, yeah, which is like he's not running it.
- 25:07Speaker 3: But if it's wide open fields like yeah, okay, I
- 25:09Speaker 3: will take the ten yards.
- 25:10Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:11Speaker 2: When when there's ten yards there to take.
- 25:13Speaker 5: It instead of being instead of being gassed during the
- 25:17Speaker 5: three yards.
- 25:19Speaker 1: I think early on this is my prediction. I mean,
- 25:21Speaker 1: I think that part of his game hopefully will improve.
- 25:24Speaker 1: I think it's being more elusive in the pocket, whether
- 25:27Speaker 1: it's even just avoiding a sack to get the ball
- 25:31Speaker 1: thrown away. Well, I think early on we're going to
- 25:35Speaker 1: see I think we're gonna see a couple of designed
- 25:37Speaker 1: QB runs that are going to surprise some people and
- 25:40Speaker 1: defenses included. You know, in big third down moments, you
- 25:44Speaker 1: know QB draws some zone reads that he pulls and
- 25:48Speaker 1: runs for seven yards for a first down or a touchdown. Like,
- 25:50Speaker 1: I think we're gonna we could see some of that.
- 25:53Speaker 1: I hope we see some of that. I think that's
- 25:54Speaker 1: a that's a very useful offensive play design that catches
- 26:01Speaker 1: teams off guard, especially for a guy that has such
- 26:04Speaker 1: a strong arm and talented arm. You know, our past
- 26:07Speaker 1: quarterbacks that have been able to do that, they haven't
- 26:10Speaker 1: been as good as of passers as Dylan has now,
- 26:13Speaker 1: They've had better legs. But I think that's a very
- 26:16Speaker 1: very big piece of an offense. If you can do that,
- 26:18Speaker 1: and I think Dylan can it all is going to
- 26:20Speaker 1: come down to how comfortable you know this offense is
- 26:23Speaker 1: and really probably comes down to Dana and then rule
- 26:27Speaker 1: him getting hit and taking some shots. Now, Dylan obviously
- 26:31Speaker 1: can be smart with sliding and getting down, but there's
- 26:33Speaker 1: a fine line of getting that extra two yards for
- 26:36Speaker 1: a first down and taking a shot when you might
- 26:39Speaker 1: need to and not doing it. Mahomes Is really figured
- 26:43Speaker 1: out how to do that and milk it a little
- 26:46Speaker 1: bit when you know you're going out of bounds and
- 26:49Speaker 1: getting some extra penalty arts too. Like he has played
- 26:52Speaker 1: so much football that he knows that level himself. You know,
- 26:56Speaker 1: Dylan being only a sophomore, that that might take a
- 26:58Speaker 1: little bit of time still, and I think there could
- 26:59Speaker 1: be some frustration with some people along those lines when
- 27:03Speaker 1: he's running the ball. Do I think he should be
- 27:07Speaker 1: trying to get every first down and just getting drilled?
- 27:11Speaker 1: Like No, I that's what I did as a quarterback
- 27:14Speaker 1: when I could have gave a ship less if I
- 27:16Speaker 1: got hurt in high school because I was a crappy
- 27:22Speaker 1: thrower anyways, Like I didn't, I didn't, I never, you know, never,
- 27:27Speaker 1: he never slide. But then the guy behind me, who
- 27:29Speaker 1: was a better passer like he was told the kid
- 27:32Speaker 1: get out abounds, and I mean that made sense. So
- 27:34Speaker 1: I do I think the Dylan's gonna take every shot?
- 27:37Speaker 2: No?
- 27:37Speaker 1: Do I think he's gonna slide every time? No? But
- 27:39Speaker 1: what's that fine line in between there? As he's our
- 27:43Speaker 1: clear QB one and and a very not to discredit
- 27:47Speaker 1: the other guys, but a very significant drop off after that.
- 27:52Speaker 5: I'm not saying come out run the triple option, which
- 27:54Speaker 5: which we're playing the game here. I mean offensive schemes
- 27:56Speaker 5: can I name in this in this podcast, but.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Rid them off ten seconds go.
- 28:06Speaker 4: Those there's the two he starts with.
- 28:09Speaker 2: I guess all right, time up, Yeah, you failed miserably.
- 28:19Speaker 2: I'm just saying, I'm just yeah. I'm not saying they'll
- 28:21Speaker 2: get drilled. Just take the ten yards when he's there. Yeah.
- 28:26Speaker 1: Uh, didn't mention to our quarterbacks coach is Glent Glen Thomas.
- 28:30Speaker 1: I do appreciate how our staff is organized this year.
- 28:34Speaker 1: We talked about that in the spring some too. How
- 28:37Speaker 1: everybody's in charge of one position. We don't have anybody
- 28:40Speaker 1: that's you know, OC and a position coach like Dana.
- 28:42Speaker 1: Dana is just the OC. I do appreciate how our
- 28:46Speaker 1: staff is organized this year backing up Dylan. I think
- 28:50Speaker 1: there's maybe a little favoritism here towards Jalen graham Stadt
- 28:54Speaker 1: since he's the veteran guy that's played college football before
- 29:00Speaker 1: as our number two. But I've heard a lot of
- 29:01Speaker 1: good things from t J Latif in camp right now.
- 29:04Speaker 1: Marcos Debila is also there. Obviously, Heiner Carberg is an
- 29:11Speaker 1: emergency option, but he's fully converted to a tight end now.
- 29:14Speaker 1: So I think it's Jayalen O Graham's Said's job. If
- 29:18Speaker 1: Ryola were to go down or you know, I've come
- 29:20Speaker 1: out out of the game for a helmet thing. You know,
- 29:25Speaker 1: I haven't seen him. We haven't seen him in action much.
- 29:29Speaker 4: But we hope to never see him in action. We
- 29:30Speaker 4: hope we never do.
- 29:32Speaker 1: Is Is there a lack of depth at the backup
- 29:36Speaker 1: quarter reposition? I maybe, but as we've said, how many
- 29:40Speaker 1: Division one programs have a good, great backup There's not many.
- 29:45Speaker 1: So yeah, you hope you never have to it never
- 29:47Speaker 1: comes to that. If it does, it's very worrisome. But
- 29:51Speaker 1: I do think you have a guy that at least
- 29:53Speaker 1: has played a lot of snaps before, and you know what,
- 29:56Speaker 1: maybe if you can get latif in there in a
- 30:00Speaker 1: couple of those early games and get him comfortable with
- 30:03Speaker 1: the speed of play and everything. You know, he might
- 30:06Speaker 1: be someone that you can use and hopefully not use
- 30:10Speaker 1: all four of his red shirt games. But it sounds
- 30:16Speaker 1: like he's done some good things in camp.
- 30:19Speaker 5: Now here's I was just thinking about this talking about Harvard.
- 30:24Speaker 5: How many design quarterback plays you think he's gonna have.
- 30:27Speaker 1: We'll get there and talk about tight.
- 30:28Speaker 4: As Okay, Okay, I mean to Dak.
- 30:33Speaker 3: We were talking quarterbacks, so I don't know if i'd
- 30:37Speaker 3: just say anything about our backup quarterbacks. I agree, it's
- 30:40Speaker 3: probably Jaalen Graham's dad. Hopefully we never see him.
- 30:46Speaker 1: Okay, let's move on down the line here. Let's go
- 30:49Speaker 1: go to our backfield. The rest of the backfield running backs,
- 30:54Speaker 1: and this is the one position I will say that
- 30:57Speaker 1: I think I've heard the most highs and lows as
- 31:01Speaker 1: far as what we are expecting going into the fall.
- 31:04Speaker 1: Emma Johnson is also clear cut number one heading into
- 31:08Speaker 1: the year as a junior. After that, I've heard a
- 31:14Speaker 1: lot of names. Mikai Nelson's looked great over the last
- 31:18Speaker 1: few weeks, so Quentin Ives was kind of the number
- 31:20Speaker 1: two going into camp and it's still in the mix
- 31:22Speaker 1: there As a sophomore, Isaiah Mosey has has shown some
- 31:27Speaker 1: splashes there. You know it's gonna be one of those
- 31:29Speaker 1: three most likely sprinkled in with Emma Johnson. Do I
- 31:33Speaker 1: think Emma Johnson's going to get twenty plus carries a game?
- 31:37Speaker 4: No.
- 31:38Speaker 1: I some offenses but do that. But there's fewer and
- 31:43Speaker 1: fewer those at all levels of football where you just
- 31:45Speaker 1: have a workhorse every down back. You're gonna see some
- 31:50Speaker 1: of these other young guys get in there. And what's
- 31:51Speaker 1: great about it, they're all great and maybe a hesitation.
- 31:54Speaker 1: They're all young. You know, there's no seniority in the backfield.
- 31:58Speaker 1: But I think the most important thing here is which
- 32:02Speaker 1: of these guys can make a guy or two miss
- 32:06Speaker 1: and turn a two yard rush into a six yard rush,
- 32:09Speaker 1: can turn a an eight yard rush that was well
- 32:13Speaker 1: blocked by it up front into making the second level
- 32:17Speaker 1: miss and turning that into a forty five yard rush, Like,
- 32:20Speaker 1: which of these guys can show to do that? Because
- 32:22Speaker 1: we have not had one of those backs, and man,
- 32:27Speaker 1: it feels like it's been maybe since a mirror. Yeah,
- 32:33Speaker 1: I mean that we've had some decent guys.
- 32:35Speaker 3: In there, right, who's the guy that Oh wow, I
- 32:39Speaker 3: just played down his name? Morgan Morgan, huh, he got
- 32:44Speaker 3: charged for like child born remember Washington Maurice.
- 32:49Speaker 1: Like again, there's some guys that you know had some
- 32:52Speaker 1: had some stuff there. But I think we're looking for,
- 32:57Speaker 1: you know, a guy that can break through as a
- 33:00Speaker 1: Really I'm not saying we need a ten out of
- 33:02Speaker 1: ten running back, but one you can rely on to
- 33:06Speaker 1: get some extra yardage here.
- 33:08Speaker 3: I mean, I expect it's gonna be Emma Johnson. He's not,
- 33:10Speaker 3: like I said, he's not how you quite like the
- 33:12Speaker 3: bell cow. But I think we're gonna be passing to
- 33:16Speaker 3: our running backs a lot. So I think Emma Johnson,
- 33:19Speaker 3: and as a moozie who was a wide receiver in
- 33:22Speaker 3: high school got moved over running back, probably will see
- 33:24Speaker 3: a lot more time than you'd think. I'm fine if
- 33:27Speaker 3: we just I you know, I can't like the consistency
- 33:31Speaker 3: obviously went you know, I didn't have the fresh legs,
- 33:32Speaker 3: But I'm fine if it's mostly Emma Johnson eighty percent
- 33:35Speaker 3: of the time out there.
- 33:39Speaker 5: Yeah, And it sounds like I mean correcting them a
- 33:43Speaker 5: wroung here, But I think doing something. McKay Nelson is
- 33:46Speaker 5: going to be like, you're your second running back. Like
- 33:49Speaker 5: he's they're really high on him coming out camp.
- 33:53Speaker 1: He's definitely had a very good spring and fall as
- 33:58Speaker 1: a freshman. I think a lot of these guys too,
- 34:01Speaker 1: you know, don't want to bring this up and jinx it,
- 34:02Speaker 1: but hanging on the ball. Yeah, we can't be putting
- 34:07Speaker 1: balls on the turf and losing possessions that way. It
- 34:10Speaker 1: sounds like, and this is what we're gonna hear. Emmott
- 34:13Speaker 1: Johnson put on the weight that he needed to put on,
- 34:15Speaker 1: maybe looked a little bit slimmer and you know, got
- 34:19Speaker 1: muscular over the offseason. Quentin and Ives maybe lost his
- 34:22Speaker 1: ten pounds to slim down so he could be more
- 34:26Speaker 1: less of a just a power back and more of
- 34:27Speaker 1: it all around. You know, that's obviously what you want
- 34:31Speaker 1: to hear. It sounds like these guys are there and
- 34:35Speaker 1: then Makai Nelson seems to be a stut so like
- 34:38Speaker 1: we have some pieces there. Last year, what did we say,
- 34:40Speaker 1: we had a bunch of five out of ten running
- 34:42Speaker 1: backs like across the board. I think we could get
- 34:46Speaker 1: there again this year, but we need to get a
- 34:48Speaker 1: guy to step up and become the seven out of ten,
- 34:51Speaker 1: eight out of ten, like one of these guys need
- 34:53Speaker 1: to do that, and Emmett's the front runner of doing that.
- 34:56Speaker 1: But who knows, Like I think all these guys are
- 34:59Speaker 1: going to get some and it's early on in the
- 35:01Speaker 1: in the year and some snaps, so we'll see who
- 35:04Speaker 1: breaks out of this group. With running backs coach E. J. Barthel,
- 35:09Speaker 1: who is one of the few that have made it
- 35:12Speaker 1: through here in three years, full three years, he was
- 35:14Speaker 1: almost poached. He was going to I don't I don't
- 35:18Speaker 1: even remember where. Probably you then all right, moving on,
- 35:28Speaker 1: let's go wide receivers here. Uh the Kiel Shorts coming
- 35:33Speaker 1: from Kentucky brings Dame Key with him in the transfer
- 35:38Speaker 1: portal and Isaiah Hunter also in the portal coming over,
- 35:43Speaker 1: and then we bring back J. Cory Barney had a
- 35:47Speaker 1: very good, solid freshman year. I think last year, you know,
- 35:51Speaker 1: you knew maybe he'd get some snaps, but he really
- 35:53Speaker 1: broke out kind of as our best receiver towards the
- 35:58Speaker 1: end of the year. I think, you know, those other
- 35:59Speaker 1: couple of transfers we had were solid, did some good things,
- 36:03Speaker 1: but JA Cory Barney was one that everybody got most
- 36:05Speaker 1: excited for.
- 36:07Speaker 3: I mean, as a guy that fits Dana Holgerson's agreed
- 36:11Speaker 3: middle of the field.
- 36:13Speaker 1: And if you haven't seen pictures of him, he looks
- 36:18Speaker 1: very much to be in shape and doing well for receivers.
- 36:25Speaker 1: So the Metris bell is another one that you may
- 36:29Speaker 1: be some special team's time, but I think we could
- 36:31Speaker 1: see him on offense too, Like I've heard a lot
- 36:34Speaker 1: of good things about him. Another slot type of guy,
- 36:37Speaker 1: you know, Jeremiah Jones, Keeland Smith, some of these other
- 36:40Speaker 1: names you might have heard, jan Iron Bonner, a converted
- 36:45Speaker 1: full back continues to grow as a receiver, Cortes Mills,
- 36:51Speaker 1: Keiland Smith, Quinn Clark. Like a lot of young young
- 36:55Speaker 1: guys here. Uh, you know, the guy that really is
- 36:59Speaker 1: leading the room is is Dame Key as as the
- 37:01Speaker 1: only senior on this on this roster here, And that's
- 37:07Speaker 1: the kind of type of guy that I think you
- 37:08Speaker 1: want in that position, that has done it before at
- 37:13Speaker 1: another Power five school. Some of these other transfers we've gotten,
- 37:17Speaker 1: we're not in that same boat, you know, maybe didn't
- 37:20Speaker 1: play in some of the tough environments that Power five
- 37:25Speaker 1: schools playing, and Dan Key was their number one guy.
- 37:29Speaker 4: Too.
- 37:29Speaker 1: It wasn't like he was a secondary option. He's used
- 37:32Speaker 1: to being the guy, and I think that could bode
- 37:35Speaker 1: very very well if him and Dylan can hit it
- 37:38Speaker 1: off early. Having a guy like that on the field,
- 37:41Speaker 1: you see it at all levels, you benefit greatly. Is
- 37:47Speaker 1: if the defense has to focus on a stud out
- 37:50Speaker 1: there is Dan Key everything and you hope for you
- 37:57Speaker 1: hope so, but again don't know until he wide receivers.
- 38:03Speaker 1: I mentioned Dakhil Shorts already, so Isaiah Hunters the other
- 38:06Speaker 1: one that I think, you know, I think we could
- 38:08Speaker 1: see some a lot of flashes here from him. He
- 38:12Speaker 1: is also only a sophomore. I every time I think
- 38:14Speaker 1: of a transfer, I think like junior senior, because I
- 38:16Speaker 1: think that's what we've had. He's only a sophomore, and
- 38:18Speaker 1: I think he's got a potential two more years here
- 38:21Speaker 1: of really breaking out and being a very very key
- 38:25Speaker 1: player in the Dana Holderson offense.
- 38:28Speaker 4: I mean, it is crazy.
- 38:29Speaker 3: We talk about the age Dan keyes the senior, and
- 38:32Speaker 3: then there's Genarian Bonner is the red shirt junior junior
- 38:36Speaker 3: on the depth chart, and the rest are freshman or sophomores. Yep,
- 38:39Speaker 3: free sophomores. I think they're, Oh, I guess to Matrice
- 38:41Speaker 3: Bell's a red shirt sophomore. So that's a young room.
- 38:48Speaker 1: A lot of movement, a lot of transfers out. Yep,
- 38:52Speaker 1: it makes it interesting. I'm just bringing one up for
- 38:54Speaker 1: a guy like Malachai Coleman who leaves to go to
- 38:57Speaker 1: the Minnesota, Like, it's a position that you think he
- 39:00Speaker 1: probably could have played if he would have stayed here.
- 39:04Speaker 1: But you know what, maybe those top three guys or
- 39:07Speaker 1: four guys, like if he saw the writing of the
- 39:09Speaker 1: wall and like, oh, I'm just gonna be fifth wheel
- 39:11Speaker 1: here again. But you you would think that a guy
- 39:13Speaker 1: like that could have seen some playing time.
- 39:17Speaker 3: I mean yeah, I would say like I said, I
- 39:20Speaker 3: think I expect Corey Barney to lead the team in targets.
- 39:25Speaker 4: And probably think so. I think so.
- 39:28Speaker 3: And then Dankee might Dank he's more likely a leading
- 39:31Speaker 3: yards and ja Cory aleaded targets.
- 39:34Speaker 5: M Yeah, it sounds like everyone's high on Danky. And
- 39:43Speaker 5: then do you think Cortes Mills will push Hunter for that?
- 39:46Speaker 2: Why does he your three spot?
- 39:49Speaker 1: I think that's a very valid point. Like I think
- 39:51Speaker 1: he's another guy just like McKay nelson who's shined a
- 39:56Speaker 1: lot in in camp and and what's hard with hard
- 40:00Speaker 1: but not hard as receivers. It's not like ofventive lineman
- 40:04Speaker 1: where you want some seniority there because of their physical
- 40:07Speaker 1: development like sometimes receivers dudes.
- 40:10Speaker 4: Yep.
- 40:11Speaker 1: And I think you know, as you talk about receiver
- 40:16Speaker 1: prototypes and stereotypes, you got your possession dudes, which we've
- 40:21Speaker 1: seen the lack that you know what, it's third and
- 40:25Speaker 1: six and you need a guy just to go run
- 40:26Speaker 1: a quick eight yard curl and you can throw it
- 40:28Speaker 1: to him and you can expect them to catch it
- 40:30Speaker 1: over a dB that he's five inches taller than. There's
- 40:33Speaker 1: those kind of receivers that we have not had in
- 40:35Speaker 1: a long time.
- 40:36Speaker 4: Jones is a giant.
- 40:38Speaker 1: He is beat a big dude. I think of guys
- 40:41Speaker 1: like you know, Mike Evans when when that comes to
- 40:44Speaker 1: mind of of guys that have played recently in the NFL,
- 40:47Speaker 1: uh And then you have you have your speed guys.
- 40:49Speaker 1: You have your guys that that we've had a lot
- 40:51Speaker 1: of in the in the past where they can just
- 40:54Speaker 1: run a post and get by people. Now, have we
- 40:56Speaker 1: had the quarterbacks to hit those guys, No, we haven't,
- 40:59Speaker 1: But you have those guys too, and that's kind of
- 41:02Speaker 1: what Cory Barney and those kind of slot guys are
- 41:05Speaker 1: better at. And then you know what, then you have
- 41:07Speaker 1: the all around guys. I think Isaiah hundred falls in
- 41:09Speaker 1: between that from what I've heard and seen. Again, we
- 41:12Speaker 1: haven't seen a couple of these guys play live action.
- 41:14Speaker 1: That guy agree with though with Cortez Mills like it's
- 41:17Speaker 1: it was all around guys.
- 41:19Speaker 2: They sounds like Hunter is not guaranteed that third spot
- 41:21Speaker 2: right now.
- 41:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I think he's the favorite, but I agree, I
- 41:27Speaker 1: think it's always good to have competition.
- 41:30Speaker 4: Jacorey and Dan are pretty locked in though, I feel
- 41:32Speaker 4: pretty good about that.
- 41:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean these guys are all I think a
- 41:35Speaker 1: lot of these guys we've mentioned are going to play
- 41:36Speaker 1: I think in a Dana offense and just more and
- 41:42Speaker 1: more in today's football's offensive scheming world, you play a
- 41:48Speaker 1: lot of guys. You play the guys that are hot. Like,
- 41:51Speaker 1: there's not many locked in positions outside of the few
- 41:54Speaker 1: that we've mentioned in an offense like this, so which
- 41:58Speaker 1: is good and bad, Like you want healthy competition to
- 42:01Speaker 1: continue to get guys better every week.
- 42:05Speaker 5: And just like, okay, so last year, last year, everybody's
- 42:08Speaker 5: high on May you're coming in and he had a
- 42:11Speaker 5: solid year, But you want more from dan Key than
- 42:13Speaker 5: you got from or.
- 42:15Speaker 4: Yeap or Banks.
- 42:17Speaker 1: I mean Banks was good, but and and and then
- 42:20Speaker 1: you can go back a year before his first year,
- 42:22Speaker 1: we got that guy from Virginia, little Billy Camp. Like
- 42:27Speaker 1: remember all the hype on Billy Camp and he was.
- 42:29Speaker 3: Just I do also remember on this podcast simply being like, yeah,
- 42:34Speaker 3: he's got a lot of hype, but he is like
- 42:36Speaker 3: a sixth year senior.
- 42:38Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't think.
- 42:40Speaker 2: Billy Camp is just as bad as what you said
- 42:42Speaker 2: he was.
- 42:42Speaker 1: I thought he was Okay, He's all we had.
- 42:46Speaker 2: True.
- 42:47Speaker 1: I thin guess that was one point.
- 42:50Speaker 4: Year we ran seventy percent of the you know snaps.
- 42:53Speaker 1: That was That was one point I heard in a
- 42:54Speaker 1: different podcast they said, think about the group that we're
- 42:56Speaker 1: talking about going into this year, and think about the
- 42:59Speaker 1: group we had rules first year, which it feels like
- 43:02Speaker 1: it was a long time ago, this group, but like
- 43:06Speaker 1: I can't even remember the name of those guys who
- 43:08Speaker 1: we rolled out two years ago for rule like that.
- 43:10Speaker 1: That wide receiving group was. It was brutal and there's
- 43:14Speaker 1: a reason why we ran it so much. I don't
- 43:16Speaker 1: even know. If I want to look at the names,
- 43:18Speaker 1: who it.
- 43:19Speaker 5: Was, pull them up Boston. I want to remember anyone
- 43:23Speaker 5: besides Billy Camp.
- 43:25Speaker 4: I mean they were kind of just forcing the That
- 43:28Speaker 4: was the year Heinrich I started quarterback, correct.
- 43:31Speaker 1: I think that was the year we had like eight
- 43:33Speaker 1: different guys played quarterback for us.
- 43:36Speaker 3: All right, we've got Billy Camp, Oh boy, I Wante Brown.
- 43:43Speaker 3: I don't remember him at all, the Coldest Crawford. I'm
- 43:48Speaker 3: trying to see if there's any names that I remember.
- 43:51Speaker 3: I'm literally reading them.
- 43:52Speaker 1: And I don't know these people are, okay, Jalen Lloyd, Maleci,
- 43:57Speaker 1: Coleman played quite a bit. Fleeks, yeah, Donya knows tight end.
- 44:03Speaker 1: Jayden Doss got a couple of catches. Alex Bullock was
- 44:06Speaker 1: the one I was thinking of.
- 44:08Speaker 4: He was on the team last year. He did alrighty,
- 44:10Speaker 4: he was a really good blocker. Everyone loves him.
- 44:12Speaker 5: Ty Han, well, well, well, hold up, Heinrik is not
- 44:15Speaker 5: the starter two years ago.
- 44:18Speaker 2: Game one, my boy, you're you're right.
- 44:22Speaker 4: Jeff Simsons the started start of the year and old
- 44:25Speaker 4: Chava and old Shova.
- 44:28Speaker 1: So I didn't again think about the To Dak's point,
- 44:31Speaker 1: at the very beginning of the players, the talent, the
- 44:34Speaker 1: people that we have working with to run something more
- 44:38Speaker 1: complex throwing the ball, though, like the pieces we had
- 44:43Speaker 1: to work with from from a talent level were not
- 44:45Speaker 1: not there. Year one, I mean, our leading receiver was
- 44:49Speaker 1: Billy Camp with thirty five receptions of three hundred and
- 44:51Speaker 1: ten yards, so Dak and he had one touchdown. Maybe
- 44:53Speaker 1: that's what you thought. He wasn't that bad? Well, that
- 44:55Speaker 1: that was our leading receiver on the entire year. Uh So,
- 45:01Speaker 1: back back back to this year's team, like.
- 45:05Speaker 4: We're in a better spot.
- 45:06Speaker 1: We're in a better spot and and and we we
- 45:08Speaker 1: should be right it is here three like not to
- 45:10Speaker 1: say that this is like the best thing ever know
- 45:12Speaker 1: we should be if this.
- 45:13Speaker 3: Is probably safe to say that this is the group
- 45:16Speaker 3: we feel second best about behind quarterback.
- 45:20Speaker 2: Maybe on often maybe.
- 45:23Speaker 1: There's maybe I I think I think I think one
- 45:26Speaker 1: of the positions here we're going to talk about here
- 45:28Speaker 1: a little bit, I think a little.
- 45:29Speaker 4: More so, Wow, I'm sure, I know, I think I
- 45:31Speaker 4: know what position you're talking about. That's so optimistic for it.
- 45:33Speaker 2: I think I think we're doinking the same thing on.
- 45:37Speaker 1: The tight ends here. It's not tight ends. Uh, Luke
- 45:42Speaker 1: Linden Meyer, Heinrich Harberg. I don't know who's I'm gonna
- 45:48Speaker 1: start there, you know, Luke Linden and Myer maybe seems
- 45:51Speaker 1: more of the all around guy that can do a
- 45:53Speaker 1: little bit of both. I think Heinrich is still building.
- 45:56Speaker 1: He's he's gotten a lot of progress towards building himself
- 45:59Speaker 1: to a tight and body. But he's still going to
- 46:01Speaker 1: be your athletic, probably more down the field, stretch, the
- 46:06Speaker 1: field receiving type of tight end than than than blocking
- 46:11Speaker 1: Carter Nelson. I think he's in that same boat as well,
- 46:14Speaker 1: you know, losing macmarket by.
- 46:16Speaker 4: The time the season starts. Is he fine?
- 46:18Speaker 1: I don't know for sure, because.
- 46:20Speaker 4: There was originally talk that he was gonna be out
- 46:22Speaker 4: for a while.
- 46:22Speaker 3: But there's like he's participating in practice and be like,
- 46:26Speaker 3: oh it looks good.
- 46:27Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think. I mean he's gonna play. I
- 46:33Speaker 1: think he's probably the third guy for sure here. But
- 46:38Speaker 1: I'm excited. I'm intrigued. I guess to see how we
- 46:42Speaker 1: how we utilized Heinrich, you know, fully fully converted. Now
- 46:46Speaker 1: we had to you know, use him at quarterback over
- 46:50Speaker 1: the past couple of years. Luke lind and Meyer could
- 46:55Speaker 1: be a very all around guy. He's a junior. I
- 46:57Speaker 1: do like that these guys are experienced guys, not rolling
- 47:00Speaker 1: out a younger guy that you know you're gonna play
- 47:04Speaker 1: on the line a lot. I think you're you're gonna
- 47:05Speaker 1: you're gonna be in tight on this offense. So do
- 47:12Speaker 1: I feel great about him? Do it hurts losing another
- 47:15Speaker 1: a depth guy that you know you would have played
- 47:17Speaker 1: some I'm guessing at some level, but I do feel
- 47:23Speaker 1: good or Okay, I guess about linden Meyer and Harberg.
- 47:26Speaker 1: I want to see his use Harborg though in a
- 47:30Speaker 1: and and not not to say that it needs to
- 47:31Speaker 1: be exactly like this, but like how they used Tyler
- 47:34Speaker 1: Warren last year at Penn State. And Tyler Warren obviously
- 47:37Speaker 1: was a dude, right Like I'm not saying Heiner Harberg
- 47:40Speaker 1: is Tyler Warren, but Tyler Warren like they utilized him
- 47:46Speaker 1: extensively in their offense, including like putting him under center
- 47:50Speaker 1: and running some like wildcat power stuff with him, which
- 47:54Speaker 1: I would I wouldn't put that against Dana and Rule
- 47:57Speaker 1: in this offense to do some of that with Heiner
- 47:59Speaker 1: because he's got that ability to do that with his
- 48:02Speaker 1: body and his athleticism.
- 48:07Speaker 3: I mean, if we were to pick a single player
- 48:11Speaker 3: to be like, this is the player that I would
- 48:13Speaker 3: like to break out the most, he'd probably be Heinrich
- 48:16Speaker 3: as a tight end.
- 48:17Speaker 4: For being honest, I agree.
- 48:19Speaker 1: I don't. I don't miss it like I think he's
- 48:22Speaker 1: he's a homeground husk or too like I think people
- 48:25Speaker 1: want that to work really well, we wanted to work.
- 48:27Speaker 3: He sacrificed. He's like, I'm not gonna be quarterback. You know,
- 48:30Speaker 3: we need tight ends. He'll be a tight end. He's athletic,
- 48:33Speaker 3: he's a likable guy. But I feel the way Carter.
- 48:39Speaker 3: We'll see because he had a hip surgery in the spring,
- 48:42Speaker 3: so I remember he missed the spring game, and there's
- 48:44Speaker 3: a talk that he might be out longer. But I
- 48:46Speaker 3: guess he's okay. So I mean Carter will be If
- 48:49Speaker 3: Carter's healthy, he'll be higher on the depth chart. I'd
- 48:51Speaker 3: expect than Heinrich, just because I mean, Rul loved Carter
- 48:56Speaker 3: Nelson and by the end of the year car was
- 49:00Speaker 3: getting pretty good run at it. I don't know, we'll see.
- 49:03Speaker 3: This is the I would say this is the weakest
- 49:06Speaker 3: group on the offensive side, But there's I would like
- 49:12Speaker 3: to see both heinean Carter do well. Those are probably
- 49:16Speaker 3: the two more offensive players I'm were excited to see
- 49:19Speaker 3: and hope to do the best on the offensive side.
- 49:22Speaker 1: Yeah, before you go, I do think we have a
- 49:27Speaker 1: very very solid and good tight ends coach here. You
- 49:31Speaker 1: want to talk about that.
- 49:35Speaker 4: Me?
- 49:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I have no idea who your Titans coaches.
- 49:42Speaker 4: He's still on staff? Would you earlier?
- 49:48Speaker 3: Oh yeah, good old dumb nuts or whatever you call
- 49:51Speaker 3: him earlier?
- 49:53Speaker 5: God, Well, this this vision is screwed. Yeah, I think
- 49:59Speaker 5: it's I think it's really thin at the position. I
- 50:04Speaker 5: think I don't think the Titan position will get used
- 50:08Speaker 5: much in the passing game this year as as normally.
- 50:14Speaker 5: I mean, to be honest, how much how much does
- 50:17Speaker 5: Nebraska really use the tight end in the passing game
- 50:19Speaker 5: at all?
- 50:21Speaker 4: I mean historically rarely.
- 50:23Speaker 1: I think Heiner Harberg will get used in the passing game. Well,
- 50:26Speaker 1: he always looked like a traditional tight end what you
- 50:30Speaker 1: think of when you when you're like a Travis Kelsey. No,
- 50:34Speaker 1: but I think Heinrich will get used. I mean, he
- 50:37Speaker 1: might look like a receiver at times in some of
- 50:38Speaker 1: their formations, but I think Heinarch will get used.
- 50:41Speaker 4: I agree. I think you'll see Carter Nelson kind of
- 50:43Speaker 4: line out like a Resea. Yeah.
- 50:46Speaker 2: So let's said, okay, so we're talking about with the quarterbacks.
- 50:48Speaker 2: Let's let the over runner.
- 50:49Speaker 5: How many times of the game does Heiner Harberd get the
- 50:53Speaker 5: snap at quarterback.
- 50:56Speaker 3: Over the course of the season. I'll take the over
- 50:58Speaker 3: on six and a half.
- 51:01Speaker 1: I was gonna say five and a half a game.
- 51:04Speaker 4: No, No for the season total, not.
- 51:06Speaker 5: All, Okay, I mean it kind of reminds me of
- 51:10Speaker 5: Blake Bell Toklahoma. I think that they'll like short yardage.
- 51:13Speaker 5: I think the'll bring them in just like get a
- 51:15Speaker 5: yard or two third and ones.
- 51:18Speaker 1: Maybe we could, like I'm not saying that won't happen.
- 51:21Speaker 1: They would rather run Heinrich than they would Dylan. Yeah, probably,
- 51:26Speaker 1: I don't. I don't know that we will go full
- 51:28Speaker 1: like Blake Bell or Taysom Hill type of right utilization
- 51:33Speaker 1: with them. I don't think it's that level. But do
- 51:35Speaker 1: I think that there's opportunities there. Yes, I think they
- 51:39Speaker 1: they really are trying to get him more of a
- 51:41Speaker 1: tight end. But I think there's still skill there, and
- 51:45Speaker 1: I do believe there are trick plays in the bag
- 51:47Speaker 1: where Heinrich will have the ability to throw it and
- 51:50Speaker 1: we'll use them if needed.
- 51:55Speaker 2: And that's the main thing is if he he can
- 51:57Speaker 2: throw it too.
- 51:58Speaker 5: So I don't like Blake Bell mean game, and you
- 52:00Speaker 5: knew he's gonna run at least at least at least
- 52:03Speaker 5: Heinrich can throw the ball a little bit, so you
- 52:05Speaker 5: can you can add that the wrinkle in there.
- 52:07Speaker 4: Can do anything.
- 52:09Speaker 1: He can do it all.
- 52:10Speaker 4: I hope he plays so well this year, you really do.
- 52:15Speaker 5: Oh before before we move on, shut out for don
- 52:18Speaker 5: he got the hands on for I think the Bills
- 52:20Speaker 5: two point conversion what they did for.
- 52:26Speaker 3: Number one the Bills, the NFL tight ends as Nebraska produced,
- 52:33Speaker 3: and he was a tight end to you, baby, We're
- 52:37Speaker 3: tight end to you here, Carter. It's like, oh, that
- 52:39Speaker 3: guy was on a roster all year, but he got
- 52:41Speaker 3: picked up by the Bengals.
- 52:43Speaker 2: Okay, do you count Cam Driggens the tight end.
- 52:46Speaker 4: I mean technically he was recruited as a tight.
- 52:49Speaker 1: End day offensive line ending with the high most important group.
- 53:01Speaker 1: As always, as we've mentioned and we'll reiterate it, it
- 53:07Speaker 1: all starts upfront. If you don't have even an average
- 53:11Speaker 1: offensive line. If you have an average Okay, if you
- 53:14Speaker 1: have a really good one, all really good things happen
- 53:17Speaker 1: with your offense. But if your offensive line struggles, I
- 53:20Speaker 1: don't care what you're trying to run for a scheme,
- 53:23Speaker 1: all of Deak's three schemes that he could name off
- 53:28Speaker 1: the top of his head, like, you can't run any
- 53:30Speaker 1: of them if you don't have guys that can block
- 53:33Speaker 1: up front. And we have seen the worst of the
- 53:36Speaker 1: worst of that over the last seven years of doing
- 53:39Speaker 1: this podcast. We've also seen some very very strong offensive lines.
- 53:44Speaker 1: Well maybe we haven't seen, but we have heard at
- 53:47Speaker 1: Nebraska of those lines that have taken our teams a
- 53:51Speaker 1: long ways into the postseason. So just reiterating the importance
- 53:56Speaker 1: of these guys that Dak mentioned it. They don't get name,
- 53:59Speaker 1: they don't get praised, you don't hear about them a
- 54:01Speaker 1: whole lot, but they're so important. And I think if
- 54:04Speaker 1: you're rebuilding any team you start here, you have to
- 54:08Speaker 1: strengthen the guys up front, and even more specifically, you
- 54:13Speaker 1: have to strengthen the guys that are, to me closest
- 54:16Speaker 1: to the ball, like your center and guards have got
- 54:21Speaker 1: to be some dudes and tackles are obviously important as well.
- 54:24Speaker 1: I'm not saying they're not, because especially when you get
- 54:26Speaker 1: to passing downs, We've seen what happens when when your
- 54:31Speaker 1: your tackle is completely with on edge rushers to your quarterback.
- 54:37Speaker 1: But having guys up front is critical. That being said,
- 54:41Speaker 1: I don't even want to try to predict exactly what
- 54:45Speaker 1: our line is going to look like left to right
- 54:46Speaker 1: because I've heard so many names and seen so many
- 54:49Speaker 1: different predictions. We know the blind guys are.
- 54:53Speaker 3: Interchangeable, right, We know like the eight to ten guys
- 54:56Speaker 3: that are going to play.
- 54:57Speaker 1: And that number right there is why I'm excited, is
- 55:01Speaker 1: you know, I was going to say, you know, seven
- 55:02Speaker 1: to eight, seven to nine, we have we have some
- 55:05Speaker 1: guys that I think we feel good about. And on
- 55:08Speaker 1: top of that, we have a couple of guys that
- 55:09Speaker 1: are in the what I'm calling the projected starting five
- 55:15Speaker 1: that played a lot of snaps in previous years that
- 55:19Speaker 1: are they Are they horrible offensive lineman? No, But I
- 55:23Speaker 1: think it speaks volume that a guy like Turner Corker
- 55:26Speaker 1: and you know, is probably not going to be starting
- 55:28Speaker 1: for us this year. Over the past couple of years
- 55:30Speaker 1: he's starting or been playing a lot of snaps. Now
- 55:33Speaker 1: Turner's going to see a lot of snaps as a
- 55:36Speaker 1: redshirt senior. Like he's he's still going to be there,
- 55:38Speaker 1: but he's probably not a guy that is going to
- 55:40Speaker 1: start this year because we brought in Rocko Spindler from
- 55:44Speaker 1: Notre Dame who was on a team that played in
- 55:49Speaker 1: the National Championship.
- 55:51Speaker 4: Game last year and for them and it started. He didn't.
- 55:54Speaker 4: It wasn't their season starter, but he did start for them.
- 55:57Speaker 1: We brought in Elijah Pritchett from Alabama who is a
- 56:01Speaker 1: junior this year. Saw a lot of time on the
- 56:04Speaker 1: field at Alabama. Justin Evans is our confirmed center up front.
- 56:13Speaker 1: If I had to be a little hesitant, which I
- 56:15Speaker 1: think is the most important position, it's maybe him, I do.
- 56:17Speaker 1: I think he could do a good job. Yeah, he
- 56:20Speaker 1: hasn't been talked about a lot, got a lot of hype,
- 56:22Speaker 1: but he's he's going to be our center this year.
- 56:26Speaker 1: I think, why am I blanking on our centers last year?
- 56:29Speaker 1: The Arizona State transfer.
- 56:31Speaker 4: Be well, I also just blinked.
- 56:36Speaker 1: But he was he was solid, like, had a lot
- 56:41Speaker 1: of did a lot of go things. He wasn't outstanding
- 56:43Speaker 1: by any means Ben Scott Ben Scott. Yeah, so so
- 56:49Speaker 1: if he's replacing Ben Scott at center. Henry Latowski sounds
- 56:53Speaker 1: like he's had a very very good offseason, and I
- 56:58Speaker 1: believe he's the Oklahoma State transfer from a couple of
- 57:01Speaker 1: years ago. Went to Big Ten media days, which I
- 57:05Speaker 1: think just kind of tells you this is a guy
- 57:09Speaker 1: that they're expecting to start up about every game that
- 57:12Speaker 1: was not really known until that point. Tyler Kannak is
- 57:17Speaker 1: a guy that could be on that projected starting five
- 57:21Speaker 1: between him or Teddy for Hoska, a Gunner Getula another
- 57:24Speaker 1: one in that mix. He could be the other starter
- 57:26Speaker 1: there at right tackle or left tackle. Again, do I
- 57:32Speaker 1: know exactly what it's going to look like left to right? No,
- 57:35Speaker 1: I don't think anybody's really going to know until those
- 57:37Speaker 1: five roll out, and that's gonna be something everybody's watching for.
- 57:39Speaker 1: I brought Knutson another one, a younger guy, Grant Bricks,
- 57:43Speaker 1: another young guy. I think you're going to here be
- 57:46Speaker 1: in that mix. And so the Sammy Sledge is a
- 57:49Speaker 1: backup center and will probably stay there unless needed an emergency.
- 57:54Speaker 1: I mean, there's your seven, eight, nine guys that are
- 57:58Speaker 1: getting talked about and guys again that you feel you
- 58:01Speaker 1: feel pretty good about going into the year. Now, do
- 58:04Speaker 1: we want guys to just get banged up and injured. No,
- 58:07Speaker 1: like that's that you never want that. But you feel
- 58:10Speaker 1: like you have some depth here. You have some veterans.
- 58:13Speaker 1: When you look at you're projected starting five and most
- 58:16Speaker 1: of them are seniors, juniors and seniors, you feel good
- 58:20Speaker 1: about that.
- 58:22Speaker 2: Guys.
- 58:22Speaker 1: I like this group. I do. I think they're going
- 58:25Speaker 1: to be a nine to ten out of ten. No,
- 58:28Speaker 1: But do I think they're going to be one of
- 58:30Speaker 1: the more solid core upfront that we've had in the
- 58:34Speaker 1: past few years.
- 58:35Speaker 4: I think they could be.
- 58:37Speaker 3: I mean the question is are they going to stand
- 58:39Speaker 3: up against like the Michigan front four. We felt all
- 58:43Speaker 3: right our offensive line that we played Michigan Ohio State,
- 58:45Speaker 3: and it's like, oh okay, this isn't.
- 58:49Speaker 4: What we wanted and it's your four of the you know,
- 58:54Speaker 4: the Roola A line coaching.
- 58:57Speaker 3: So I mean, you'd expect a line to take longer
- 58:59Speaker 3: to turn over because it is a more developmental position
- 59:02Speaker 3: and there doesn't have to be more physical growth. So
- 59:06Speaker 3: I mean, this would be the year that you see
- 59:07Speaker 3: the payoff of switching to a better a line coach
- 59:09Speaker 3: in theory, because you've given it a whole training rotation
- 59:13Speaker 3: basically with the red shirting, and this would be kind
- 59:16Speaker 3: of their year three as red shirts, plus with the
- 59:19Speaker 3: addition of the transfer. So I probably agree that this
- 59:22Speaker 3: is one of the better positions. I mean, it's you know,
- 59:25Speaker 3: it's them or the wide receivers. But yeah, like if
- 59:30Speaker 3: we had, you know, if knock on wood Teddy Prooska
- 59:35Speaker 3: goes down with another season an an injury.
- 59:37Speaker 4: You're not like, oh, shoot, what are we gonna do?
- 59:40Speaker 2: Right?
- 59:42Speaker 3: Like, I'm honestly I'd be some you know, I really
- 59:45Speaker 3: hope Teddy stays healthy all year, But like, is that
- 59:47Speaker 3: a guy? Like do we just keep him as a
- 59:49Speaker 3: backup and like a you know, not run him out
- 59:52Speaker 3: there all the time. Yeah, Dak, you had a confused
- 59:57Speaker 3: look on your face.
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: I was confused. Oh I was are you talking? Like
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: how long ago I did?
- 1:00:03Speaker 5: I didn't know who the center was, oh, Ben Scott.
- 1:00:08Speaker 5: But I think I think I've said this another podcast.
- 1:00:12Speaker 5: Oh mine is the one spot where the transfer portal
- 1:00:15Speaker 5: is the easiest to bring somebody in because if you
- 1:00:17Speaker 5: can block, you can block for anybody.
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: Interesting.
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: That's what I think these transfers you brought in.
- 1:00:25Speaker 4: I think there's a little bit more of a cohesion
- 1:00:27Speaker 4: that's required.
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: Yes, And I don't think there's as numerous of people
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: entering the portal, So I think that's true.
- 1:00:36Speaker 4: Me.
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: That makes it harder because I don't think there's as
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: many oppositive linement entering the portal as other positions.
- 1:00:42Speaker 5: But continue, Yeah, I just think those two transfers you
- 1:00:46Speaker 5: got are gonna help out a lot.
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: And it's like you said, it's not gonna be a
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: nine out of ten. All you need is just to
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: solid online. You don't need. I mean, it'd be nice
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: to have it. That's him.
- 1:00:59Speaker 5: But if you just have an online that will give
- 1:01:02Speaker 5: all enough time two, enough time back there to where
- 1:01:07Speaker 5: he's not panicking every time he goes back to past.
- 1:01:09Speaker 5: Basically all is all you want and get make some
- 1:01:13Speaker 5: room for him, Johnson, do something. This is the This
- 1:01:18Speaker 5: is like the first year I can ever remember that
- 1:01:20Speaker 5: what the hell is his name? Your tackle last year
- 1:01:22Speaker 5: is now on the team. I felt like he was
- 1:01:24Speaker 5: there eighty years. Ben Harp, Yeah, sadly that guy is gone.
- 1:01:30Speaker 4: Most starts in Nebraska history.
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: Yeah, sadly. Okay, he didn't improve.
- 1:01:34Speaker 4: You say that, but last year he was he was good.
- 1:01:37Speaker 5: He was good last year now freshman, and in the
- 1:01:40Speaker 5: year before that awful. But so whatever you have at
- 1:01:43Speaker 5: tackle is going to be better than him. And yeah,
- 1:01:48Speaker 5: I just think it's gonna be a solid group.
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: That you mentioned. I think one thing that he's shown
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: is he's made guys better. Speaking of someone like ben
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: Hart like he hasn't, he has found ways to develop guys.
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: I think in combination of that with Data being able
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: to scheme around your offensive line and run run plays,
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: run schemes that will benefit your strengths and kind of
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: hide your weaknesses. I think that's something that good offensive
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: coordinators can do. Again, doesn't get talked about. When you
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: think of designing a play, you're not really thinking about
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: your line. You're thinking about routes. You're thinking about lanes.
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: Like offensive linemen can be used very intricately to make
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: your offense really, really good. And and that's another you
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: know faith that you're putting in to Data offensive coordinator,
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: and then and then Donovan that that this group could
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: be very solid with the different pieces that they have.
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: So that's why I feel good in their experience. Like
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: we're not rolling out a true freshman, and I don't
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: think starting.
- 1:03:00Speaker 4: I don't even know we have a true freshman role.
- 1:03:02Speaker 4: I guess we have one true freshman role out.
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, we got guys that have played or
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: were on the team last year that maybe played behind.
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: Some guys got some snaps. I mean, Gunnard Tula got
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: some snaps last year. Grant Bricks and you know got
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: still retained his red shirt status there. I mean Latowski
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: got a lot of snaps last year. Like, well, I
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: don't think he was a week one starter. He started
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: some games toward the end of the year. Dude, injuries
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: and stuff. So we got guys that I played some
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: major college football, and I think that.
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: Only Eddy was a starter for correcty years. Screy blows
- 1:03:41Speaker 3: his knee out.
- 1:03:42Speaker 5: Correct, So all lines like the one position that you
- 1:03:47Speaker 5: look at the depth of most because odds are you're
- 1:03:49Speaker 5: going to lose when you're offense lining for a.
- 1:03:52Speaker 4: Game, right, one of these one of these people will
- 1:03:55Speaker 4: be will miss the end of the year.
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: It'll be Teddy. We all know that.
- 1:04:00Speaker 4: I don't want to say that.
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: I really hope it doesn't. I really hope for his sake,
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: Like I really hope.
- 1:04:04Speaker 4: He doesn't just give me. Yeah, I want Teddy give
- 1:04:07Speaker 4: me all the Nebraska born boys just to have a
- 1:04:09Speaker 4: great year.
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: Do you want to have depth? And it looks like
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: that they have decent depth behind your starters.
- 1:04:14Speaker 4: So how many started off at the lineman have to
- 1:04:17Speaker 4: go down before we throw Heinrich in there? You know.
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: Left tackle zero zero, he's gonna start.
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: Move him in.
- 1:04:28Speaker 3: Uh.
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: Last thing I guess on the offense here before we
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: close out today, what what do you guys want to see?
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: Obviously you want things to look good. What specifically do
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: you want to see here the first few games of
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: the year. We have two games that we've chopped up
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: as wins. Knock on better lose those too, but you know,
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: Cincinnati game one early in the year, Like, what what
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: are some things you're looking for you want to see
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: early on in the year?
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: Biased?
- 1:05:00Speaker 3: I want to see it just and like electric connections
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: between Jacory, Dylan, Emmett and I rink where it's just
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: like they're all in the same brain, Like, oh this guy.
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: He's doing this, throw Dan that throw Dane for me
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: in there.
- 1:05:15Speaker 3: But yes, yeah, just the cohesion and efficiency and just
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: being like okay, these guys know what they're doing and
- 1:05:21Speaker 3: they're on the same page, and you know it's not
- 1:05:24Speaker 3: always a completion, but you know it's like, oh, that
- 1:05:27Speaker 3: was the.
- 1:05:27Speaker 4: Right call and it wasn't quite a catch, like it
- 1:05:29Speaker 4: was a good defense. So that's what I want to see.
- 1:05:32Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm excited to see what dan Key is gonna
- 1:05:35Speaker 5: do because there's there's a lot of hype behind him,
- 1:05:38Speaker 5: and then Harvard, I want to see how they use
- 1:05:40Speaker 5: him and then we just talked about. But the only
- 1:05:43Speaker 5: line I want to see if it's actually going to
- 1:05:46Speaker 5: be a solid group from once.
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: I.
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: Along with all those things, I I want to see
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: things pop early on in whatever in whatever way shape
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: form that looks like like I think last year, the
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: oh my gosh, that was good moments all resulted in
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: like twelve yard games or like we had a good
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: run design was like, oh my gosh, we got eight
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: yards like or oh my god, Dylan can freaking throw
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: it and he threw a nice twenty yard pass across
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: the middle. Like I want to see things just take
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: that next step and pop in these games, especially the
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: Akron and Houston Christian game, but even the Cincinnati game,
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: like there's no reason to think that this offense can't
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: come out and just go whoa and and all of that.
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: It's going to be a result of the things that
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: you guys mentioned and your your key players coming together
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: and saying nope, like Dylan Ja Cory Dane, like in
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: the passing game, like nope, this we're gonna be a
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: huge threat to posing defenses when we're on the field,
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: Emma Johnson, when now I get the ball, it's going
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: to good luck tackling me. Like, I want to see
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: some of that pop. I think we saw that last year,
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: but again, I don't think that resulted in yards and
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: points like we hope to. And I'm speaking specifically about
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: Dylan A Dylan Royola led offense and then a Dana
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: Holgerson late in the year designed and called offense like
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: we saw those moments like Okay, this is this is good.
- 1:07:23Speaker 4: This is good.
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: Like I like this, Like I think remember which the
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: Wisconsin game, you were like, whoa, this is what offense
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: could look like here, Like I want to see that
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: consistently for three games early in the year, and I
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: think I think there's potential there. But if there's not,
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: I think that's when we're hitting we're not hitting the
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: panic button because I don't think there's going to be
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: any worse than two and one. But you're you're saying, okay,
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: AWRII how are we crawling out to six or seven
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: wins here if our offense doesn't have that? With everything
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: we've talked about today and the hype that I guess
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: that we're on, even though office has been really bad
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: the past few years, Like, I think this has.
- 1:08:03Speaker 3: Potential it because it's been bad, there's room for improvement,
- 1:08:07Speaker 3: and we can see that there's a path for improvement.
- 1:08:10Speaker 5: Yeah, last off season at this time, we were coming
- 1:08:13Speaker 5: in from a year watching like any one yard game.
- 1:08:17Speaker 5: It was awesome, no interceptions, but yeah, that was the bar. Yes, yeah,
- 1:08:22Speaker 5: you scream anytime you throw out the year before. So
- 1:08:26Speaker 5: now now you're coming in with senior year of a
- 1:08:30Speaker 5: decent offense and and hopefully build off that.
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: Yeah, uh yeah, I guess before we close out right
- 1:08:38Speaker 3: the top one hundred Archie Wilson hype, we forgot to
- 1:08:41Speaker 3: mention that the Archie Wilson apt.
- 1:08:43Speaker 4: Has arrived and it's here and it's real, and uh,
- 1:08:48Speaker 4: I guess. Volleyball Road White Scrimmage.
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: Let's the girls look pretty pretty deep on that side too,
- 1:08:56Speaker 3: so it could be a good fall, could.
- 1:08:58Speaker 4: Be a good fall fellas.
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: I think reseason ranked number one, number two.
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: Did you watch it, Austin? I heard it was on TV.
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: I watched highlights of it. I didn't get to watch
- 1:09:08Speaker 3: the whole thing, but it was the the ladies on
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: the team. Basically they're making this sound like, Yeah, practice
- 1:09:16Speaker 3: is harder than games, so and I mean we look
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: pretty deep across the board, so feel pretty good about that.
- 1:09:26Speaker 4: Danny whipping them into shape.
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm I'm pumped for the Archie Wilson talk on Thursday.
- 1:09:33Speaker 4: Yep, we'll talk.
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: We'll talk defense special teams on Thursday, similar breakdown as
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: we did today with the offense. So until then, thanks
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: for listening. Fall us on social media, DAC's out there
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: shooting tweets left and right on our Twitter sage at
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: Glory return. Have we got an Instagram page? Return to Glory?
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: Check us out there and we'll see you Thursday.
- 1:09:56Speaker 4: We'll be read GBR.
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: Go'll be read yet.
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: Truck back, I think a
