- 0:00Welcome to Global Impact, where we track progress
- 0:03on the world's biggest challenges. Right. And
- 0:06today, wow, today we have a significant breakthrough
- 0:10in the fight for clean water. It's really inspiring
- 0:12news, Alex. Yeah. So His Excellency Saeed Mohamed
- 0:17El -Ter, he's the chairman of the UAE Water Aid
- 0:20Foundation, you know, SUKIA. He announced that
- 0:23their projects in Tanzania have brought clean
- 0:25drinking water to over 1 ,024 ,000 people. Over
- 0:29a million? That's an incredible number. And it
- 0:32actually exceeded their original goals. Wow.
- 0:35And get this, it was all made possible through
- 0:37a grant from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin
- 0:40Rashid al -Maktoum, which let Sukia and the Emirates
- 0:43Red Crescent establish these vital new wells.
- 0:46Exactly. And this achievement in Tanzania, it's
- 0:49just a snapshot of a much larger global effort.
- 0:52His Excellency Altair, he put it perfectly. He
- 0:55said Sukia's sustainable projects have benefited
- 0:58approximately 15 million people in 37 countries
- 1:02since its launch in 2015. 15 million people.
- 1:06I mean, that just shows such a deep long -term
- 1:09commitment. Totally. But what I think is fascinating
- 1:12is that their strategy isn't just about immediate
- 1:14relief. You're so right. It's this really powerful
- 1:17dual focus. Oh, yeah? The chairman said the foundation
- 1:20works to, one, alleviate the suffering of communities
- 1:23most affected by the global water crisis, and
- 1:26two, foster innovation in finding sustainable
- 1:29solutions. And they really put their money where
- 1:32their mouth is on that innovation front. Okay,
- 1:34how so? Well, with the upcoming $1 million Mohammed
- 1:38bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award, it
- 1:41actually rewards new ways to produce clean water
- 1:43using renewable energy. That is a perfect example
- 1:46of tackling a problem from both ends, right?
- 1:48Exactly. You're providing life -saving water
- 1:51today, but also you're developing the tech we
- 1:54need for a sustainable tomorrow. So, OK, here's
- 1:57a question for everyone listening. When you're
- 2:00facing these huge global crises like water scarcity,
- 2:03how vital is this blend of immediate on the ground
- 2:06aid with that long term investment in technology
- 2:09and innovation?
