- 0:57Nora: Hey everyone.
- 0:59Nora: Thanks for joining Vibe Check tonight.
- 1:02Nora: I'm with you as always, I'm Nora.
- 1:04Nora: Hi, I'm Mandy.
- 1:05Nora: Yeah, filling in for Charles 'cause-
- 1:07Mandy: He's too good for us.
- 1:09Mandy: Too good for us.
- 1:09Mandy: Thanks, he doesn't need any beer.
- 1:12Mandy: You're just better than us.
- 1:13Mandy: Yeah.
- 1:14Nora: Wine tasting in wine country.
- 1:17Nora: Whatever.
- 1:17Nora: And as always on the ones and twos, we have Chris.
- 1:22Chris: Hey folks, welcome.
- 1:23Chris: Thanks for being here.
- 1:25Chris: It's a two girls, one guy situation.
- 1:29Mandy: Oh.
- 1:30Chris: Uh-oh.
- 1:32Mandy: [LAUGHTER]
- 1:33Mandy: Let the record show I didn't sign up for that.
- 1:36Mandy: [LAUGHTER]
- 1:37Chris: I didn't mean it that way, you bunch of purrs.
- 1:40Mandy: When do we get three girls?
- 1:42Mandy: Ooh, good question.
- 1:43Mandy: That's what I really, really wanted.
- 1:44Mandy: We do need three girls.
- 1:45Mandy: We did the, you know, ladies and babies.
- 1:48Mandy: Mm-hmm, that was good.
- 1:49Mandy: It was good, but I think-
- 1:51Mandy: All girls?
- 1:52Mandy: All girls.
- 1:54Mandy: We can make that happen.
- 1:55Mandy: I feel like we can.
- 1:57Mandy: We need to recruit.
- 1:58Chris: So if you want to volunteer to learn how to run this show
- 2:03Chris: so that we can do an all-girls show,
- 2:05Chris: get in touch with us at loudspeaker.org.
- 2:08Mandy: Hello, I can run the buttons.
- 2:12Mandy: You just need someone else to sit in the seat.
- 2:14Nora: Hey girl. - Thank you very much.
- 2:16Nora: So if you'd like to sit in that seat.
- 2:19Nora: (laughing)
- 2:20Nora: This seat specifically, not this seat.
- 2:21Chris: Go to loudspeaker.org and reach out to us to volunteer
- 2:25Chris: or give us a call at 888-8535, that's a real number.
- 2:30Nora: Once again, we're looking for ladies.
- 2:32Nora: Yep, exactly.
- 2:35Nora: So, yeah, we have a good show for everyone.
- 2:38Nora: I'm pretty psyched about today.
- 2:40Nora: Fourth of July.
- 2:41Nora: Fourth of July.
- 2:41Nora: 'Merica.
- 2:42Nora: Yeah, we're celebrating the 250th birthday
- 2:45Nora: of the United States.
- 2:47Nora: Hooray.
- 2:48Nora: Hooray.
- 2:48Nora: Hooray.
- 2:49Nora: Hooray.
- 2:50Nora: Hooray.
- 2:50Nora: We're enjoying the true privileges of being American,
- 2:54Nora: which was I went to the store and got as many
- 3:00Nora: 250th birthday themed items as I possibly could,
- 3:03Nora: and we're trying them tonight.
- 3:04Nora: So.
- 3:05Mandy: I mean, gluttony is part of, you know,
- 3:07Mandy: the American culture.
- 3:09Mandy: What's more American than Walmart?
- 3:11Mandy: Wait, what's more American?
- 3:13Mandy: I am wearing my 4th of July fit.
- 3:16Mandy: Oh, I love it.
- 3:18Mandy: And you may be wondering why 4th of July?
- 3:21Mandy: It's very pink.
- 3:23Mandy: Pink, glow in the dark.
- 3:25Mandy: It glows in the dark, all the little stars.
- 3:28Mandy: It's really reactive.
- 3:30Mandy: Glow in the dark.
- 3:31Mandy: So that is as close to patriotic as I'm comfortable getting.
- 3:36Chris: And if we had much more expensive cameras,
- 3:39Chris: like by tens of multitudes,
- 3:42Chris: we'd be able to show you how glow in the dark that is.
- 3:44Chris: But I guess you'll just have to take our word for it
- 3:46Chris: right now.
- 3:46Mandy: I mean, we tried.
- 3:48Mandy: We did try. - We did, we did try.
- 3:49Chris: But it's not just another one of the white man's lies.
- 3:51Mandy: Yeah. - Yeah, no, not this time.
- 3:53Mandy: This time it's for real.
- 3:56Mandy: But speaking of it, so you know,
- 3:58Mandy: It's very subtle, very subdued.
- 4:02Mandy: Have you ever felt personally attacked
- 4:05Mandy: by a content creator?
- 4:09Mandy: Occasionally, yeah, I have.
- 4:12Nora: And it is not fun to be called out.
- 4:14Mandy: So there's a content creator named Jessie.
- 4:18Mandy: And every time I watch her content, it hurts me.
- 4:22Chris: Ooh. - Why?
- 4:23Mandy: Yeah, let's watch one and then we'll see.
- 4:25Chris: Okay.
- 4:26Mandy: Okay. Oh God. Which guy? Girl, you look like three disco balls.
- 4:30Video: Thank you so much. And that's not a bag. That's a pot. Right.
- 4:34Video: But if I carry it like this, I kind of feel like it's so experimental.
- 4:38Video: I don't know.
- 4:41Video: I guess the Coke one.
- 4:43Chris: Okay. Keep it. I know why now.
- 4:45Video: Simple at all. I'm using a purse as a purse. You're blinding me.
- 4:52Mandy: It hurts. It hurts.
- 4:55Mandy: It hurts a lot, also.
- 4:58Chris: Right in your feels.
- 4:59Mandy: This is my purse for today.
- 5:04Chris: I was gonna say, that's one of them.
- 5:05Mandy: One of them, oh, I know, I know.
- 5:09Mandy: It works.
- 5:11Mandy: It's Bluetooth and it works,
- 5:13Mandy: and so I can take little phone calls on my purse.
- 5:17Mandy: Super subtle.
- 5:18Mandy: Do we wanna watch one more video from her?
- 5:20Mandy: Of course.
- 5:21Mandy: Sure.
- 5:22Mandy: So we can really hurt my feelings.
- 5:24Video: Okay, I'm ready. - Oh my God,
- 5:26Video: Jessie, we're going to the mall.
- 5:28Video: Mall, I thought you said ball.
- 5:29Video: (laughing)
- 5:30Video: I don't know about that.
- 5:31Video: Where's your purse?
- 5:33Video: That's a frog.
- 5:34Video: (laughing)
- 5:36Video: I can put my key in it.
- 5:37Video: Okay, where are you gonna-
- 5:38Video: I figured you could hold the purse.
- 5:39Video: There it is, no, no.
- 5:41Video: Come on, don't say no to the princess.
- 5:43Video: You are not a princess.
- 5:44Video: Don't say that to me.
- 5:45Video: Oh my God.
- 5:47Video: Oh God.
- 5:49Chris: Mandy, what are you gonna do
- 5:50Chris: to this person who stole your bit?
- 5:52Mandy: I know, and my thing is, it's not even a bit,
- 5:55Mandy: and that's why it hurts.
- 5:56Mandy: That's why it hurts.
- 5:57Mandy: Let me just, you don't see all the rest of this,
- 5:59Mandy: but it's floof.
- 6:02Chris: It's very floofy.
- 6:04Chris: And to be entirely transparent,
- 6:07Chris: Mandy doesn't wear these things just for the show.
- 6:11Chris: No, I wore this to the dentist.
- 6:14Mandy: (laughing)
- 6:14Chris: This is Mandy on the regular.
- 6:16Mandy: I've worn the skirt, not the top,
- 6:19Mandy: 'cause for teeth cleaning, it's a little much.
- 6:22Mandy: Yeah.
- 6:23Mandy: But I do-
- 6:24Chris: I don't know, how much do you like your hygienics?
- 6:26Mandy: (laughing)
- 6:26Mandy: A lot, they're really great.
- 6:29Nora: Do you have any petticoats on today?
- 6:30Nora: Not today.
- 6:31Nora: See, not even petticoats on this one
- 6:33Nora: and it's still a big puffy.
- 6:35Mandy: I know, and like I said, this is like dentist wear,
- 6:38Mandy: like this is 'cause it's a Wednesday.
- 6:40Mandy: That's okay, it's called dopamine dressing.
- 6:43Nora: Sure, that's it, exactly.
- 6:43Chris: Ooh, I like that.
- 6:45Nora: That's what the kids on the internet are calling it.
- 6:47Nora: Whimsy?
- 6:48Nora: Yeah, whimsy is very important.
- 6:51Nora: I was told no a lot as a child.
- 6:54Nora: (both laughing)
- 6:57Mandy: Women were not supposed to be seen.
- 7:00Mandy: That's definitely how I grew up.
- 7:01Mandy: So I-
- 7:02Mandy: You're healing young Mandy.
- 7:04Mandy: Yeah, yeah, I'm making sure I'm seen.
- 7:08Mandy: And some.
- 7:09Mandy: Yeah, but my feelings get hurt every time.
- 7:12Mandy: (both laughing)
- 7:13Mandy: Every time they come across the screen.
- 7:15Mandy: But are you also inspired by her outfits?
- 7:18Mandy: I mean, I think we could go toe to toe.
- 7:21Mandy: Like one for one, it hurts.
- 7:25Mandy: It hurts.
- 7:27Nora: Yeah.
- 7:27Nora: Yeah, I did try and invite Charles to go see Obsession this weekend.
- 7:31Nora: Oh yeah?
- 7:32Nora: How'd that go?
- 7:32Nora: I realized he was in California, so I did try this time.
- 7:37Nora: I just want that on the record that I did try to go to the movie on Sunday and I was
- 7:44Nora: told he wasn't in town.
- 7:45Nora: So I didn't go see it because movies should be seen together with other people.
- 7:49Nora: Is it payback?
- 7:49Mandy: payback 'cause you didn't go to the wrestling?
- 7:52Mandy: Probably, but I'm gonna go to the next one.
- 7:55Mandy: I mean, look, I was even like,
- 7:57Mandy: maybe I'll be healed enough to go to the next wrestling,
- 7:59Mandy: so until, especially when I heard it was like
- 8:02Mandy: Twilight themed, I'm all for,
- 8:03Mandy: I'm all for a theme, if you can't tell.
- 8:06Nora: You like a theme?
- 8:07Mandy: We like a theme!
- 8:09Mandy: But then the actor said that nobody
- 8:12Mandy: does anything with the theme.
- 8:14Mandy: And I'm like, "Womp womp."
- 8:15Chris: At least to the couple that I've been to,
- 8:17Chris: the theme is just kind of incidental.
- 8:20Chris: I'm sure there are, there have been events
- 8:22Chris: where the theme was more, you know,
- 8:26Chris: more intricate to, or integrated to the show.
- 8:31Mandy: Look, if you're gonna do it Twilight themed,
- 8:33Mandy: I need it to be Twilight themed.
- 8:36Mandy: So many good opportunities.
- 8:37Nora: So many!
- 8:38Nora: So many good opportunities.
- 8:40Nora: This is the leotard of a killer.
- 8:42Nora: Yeah, exactly.
- 8:43Chris: But even though Nora did not go see Obsession,
- 8:46Chris: lots and lots of other people have.
- 8:50Chris: Just a few days ago, it beat the record set by Sinners
- 8:54Chris: last year. - Holy wow!
- 8:55Chris: What?
- 8:56Chris: How is that possible?
- 8:57Chris: Highest grossing original live action film of the decade.
- 9:02Chris: Obsession has crossed over $372 million.
- 9:05Chris: And for those who don't know,
- 9:09Chris: this movie was made for $750,000.
- 9:11Chris: That's insane.
- 9:14Nora: That's crazy work.
- 9:15Nora: Imagine what he's gonna be able to do. Yeah with a real budget
- 9:19Mandy: I don't know is that the curse of like the second project you write second books like once you have
- 9:24Chris: Something that's so I mean, you'll definitely have a lot more eyes on him. That's for sure
- 9:28Chris: I mean this was better or worse
- 9:30Chris: Yeah, this was something that Universal picked up at the Toronto Film Festival for a million dollars
- 9:35Chris: So it's easily the most profitable movie
- 9:38Chris: They've ever been associated with but you know, nobody really knew who he was
- 9:42Chris: He had made one like short film on YouTube that did well prior to this
- 9:48Chris: But he was a youtuber like he didn't have a ton of eyes on him and now it's now it's a whole new ballgame
- 9:53Mandy: Look, I'm cheering for them. Like yes, like let's do this. Let's take it back like take back the movies for the people. Yeah
- 10:00Chris: Absolutely. I need to see more original stories being told we need to be we need to see more
- 10:06Chris: That's just not like superhero fatigue because I think
- 10:10Chris: Supergirl which came out recently that has only made 30 million dollars
- 10:16Chris: You know just is another indicator that people want to see new stories
- 10:21Chris: Yeah, yeah
- 10:22Mandy: And how many times can we get like the same origin stories of the same like two characters and and the whole you know?
- 10:29Nora: Remakes and you know, how many origin stories?
- 10:33Nora: How many Batman even the live-action of Moana just came out and like why do we need a live-action of Moana?
- 10:38Nora: when Moana came out 15 years ago.
- 10:40Nora: Like it's not even that long ago that Moana existed
- 10:43Nora: and we're already getting a live action remake.
- 10:45Nora: And I personally don't really go watch remakes.
- 10:50Nora: I will go see a movie if there's a big hype around it.
- 10:53Nora: And I know some people have said,
- 10:56Nora: like I wish I would have watched Obsession
- 10:58Nora: before all of the hype.
- 11:00Nora: But like I feel like it's a good movie
- 11:02Nora: and I'm gonna enjoy it regardless.
- 11:03Nora: And it's also cool that like horror
- 11:05Nora: is playing such a big role in the movie scene now.
- 11:10Nora: I think we talked about it last week,
- 11:12Nora: but I just love that it's that horror research.
- 11:14Mandy: I do love horror,
- 11:16Mandy: and I do love horror creeping into the summer.
- 11:19Mandy: I need all of the activities that happen in the autumn
- 11:24Mandy: to just take over summer,
- 11:26Mandy: and we'll pretend like summer isn't here.
- 11:27Mandy: Year round. - Yeah.
- 11:28Mandy: Spooky season is year round in my world.
- 11:30Mandy: (laughing)
- 11:30Mandy: At my house, we do something called Augsgiving.
- 11:34Mandy: And so in August, the third Thursday in August,
- 11:37Mandy: we all come together and we have
- 11:38Mandy: a whole Thanksgiving feast,
- 11:40Mandy: all the most ridiculous, tackiest,
- 11:42Mandy: turkey things we can come up with.
- 11:44Mandy: It's lovely, it's a good time.
- 11:45Nora: See, I just do like a harvest,
- 11:48Nora: and like everybody has to bring something
- 11:49Nora: from their garden, you know?
- 11:50Nora: Or like from the farmer's market or something,
- 11:52Nora: like fresh and like local, like that's, yeah.
- 11:55Mandy: Like I love that, and I love the idea,
- 11:57Mandy: 'cause you're just so-- - That's where my brain goes.
- 11:59Mandy: Yeah, you're just so grown up, and so genteel,
- 12:03Mandy: And so like, we're living in the earth,
- 12:06Mandy: and we're feeling it. - And I made this food.
- 12:08Mandy: And I'm like, look at this metal turkey, y'all.
- 12:12Mandy: (everyone laughs)
- 12:13Mandy: It's got feathers.
- 12:14Video: I have literally never been to Oggsgiving.
- 12:17Video: You should come to Oggsgiving.
- 12:18Video: I very much should.
- 12:20Chris: Yeah, you're invited. - I will put it on the calendar.
- 12:21Chris: Okay. - And speaking of food,
- 12:23Chris: so Mandy won the Marble League.
- 12:26Chris: Yep.
- 12:27Chris: And she got her first gift today.
- 12:30Chris: (Mandy squeals)
- 12:31Nora: I'm so excited.
- 12:32Nora: It smells amazing.
- 12:33Nora: You-- oh, you all.
- 12:34Nora: I made it with fresh bread.
- 12:36Nora: I almost forgot about it.
- 12:37Nora: What's it called?
- 12:38Nora: What's it again?
- 12:38Nora: Amish white bread.
- 12:39Nora: Yeah, and it's an all recipes recipe.
- 12:42Nora: It's fantastic.
- 12:43Nora: It never fails me.
- 12:44Nora: I get so many compliments on this bread.
- 12:46Nora: Like, it is my favorite recipe.
- 12:48Nora: While I'm not a sourdough queen, I am a yeast bread queen.
- 12:51Nora: And I can guarantee this will be delicious.
- 12:53Nora: Oh, I'm so excited.
- 12:55Chris: Came out of the oven about 10 minutes before we left.
- 12:57Chris: I haven't tried it, but it smells delicious.
- 13:01Mandy: I did take the time because I can't let go of the fact that I'm finally a winner.
- 13:05Mandy: I never win anything.
- 13:06Mandy: And so I'm like, I have that feeling and like, maybe now I understand sports ball people
- 13:10Mandy: a little.
- 13:11Nora: Yeah.
- 13:12Mandy: And so like, I found myself trying to explain it to someone at work.
- 13:18Chris: Trying to explain that you won or Marble League?
- 13:22Video: Both.
- 13:23Video: And like how stoked I was.
- 13:25Video: And how I was like, suck it!
- 13:28Nora: Okay, so the baseball game that I went and saw,
- 13:31Nora: it was basically like that.
- 13:32Nora: There you go.
- 13:33Nora: Where the Astro Stars, they were,
- 13:36Nora: or they, what, is that the name?
- 13:38Nora: I wouldn't know.
- 13:40Nora: Indigo Stars, the Indigo Stars, they're leaders,
- 13:42Nora: you know, they've been winning for a while.
- 13:44Nora: And then all of a sudden in the last game,
- 13:46Nora: the pinky, like the last moment.
- 13:48Nora: On the home turf.
- 13:49Nora: See, once again, like look, I look like a lunatic.
- 13:51Video: That's how I felt during that baseball game.
- 13:54Mandy: Thank you, the actor.
- 13:55Mandy: Thank you, Nora.
- 13:56Mandy: Thank you Charles for making me look like a lunatic.
- 13:59Mandy: (laughing)
- 14:00Chris: I am very glad that I introduced Marble League to y'all.
- 14:03Mandy: Look, I'm ready for next season
- 14:05Mandy: and I'm gonna go even harder.
- 14:07Mandy: Yeah, and I think, oh, the other one-
- 14:09Mandy: I should dye my hair pink.
- 14:11Nora: Ooh, yeah.
- 14:13Nora: I was gonna say the other kind of online racing
- 14:16Nora: that we've kind of followed is pig racing,
- 14:18Nora: but they do weird AI stuff now, and so like-
- 14:21Chris: They do weird AI stuff?
- 14:22Chris: For pig racing.
- 14:23Nora: How's that?
- 14:24Nora: They have a weird AI announcer
- 14:26Nora: The comments don't like it.
- 14:28Chris: Oh, that's a bummer.
- 14:29Nora: So, yeah.
- 14:30Chris: We would never use any sort of AI spoken word
- 14:35Chris: here on this show.
- 14:36Chris: We have standards.
- 14:38Video: (coughing)
- 14:39Video: Denora, yeah.
- 14:41Chris: What?
- 14:42Video: I didn't say anything.
- 14:43Chris: What?
- 14:44Nora: Nothing.
- 14:45Nora: (laughing)
- 14:49Mandy: So everyone's had a good week other than, you know?
- 14:51Mandy: Looking like a lunatic in front of my coworkers, yeah.
- 14:55Mandy: Yeah, absolutely. - And maybe the dentist
- 14:56Mandy: today too.
- 14:57Mandy: I mean, look. - I'm kidding.
- 14:59Mandy: No, no, it's bad.
- 15:00Mandy: They literally confess to me that they have a morning meeting
- 15:03Mandy: where they talk about their clients and they all go,
- 15:05Mandy: "What is she gonna be wearing today?"
- 15:07Mandy: (laughing)
- 15:08Mandy: And I'm like, that's flattering.
- 15:11Mandy: That's hugely flattering.
- 15:12Mandy: Also, I have a lot to live up to
- 15:16Mandy: and I don't know if I can live up to all of this.
- 15:19Nora: Well, you clearly did today.
- 15:20Nora: Thank you.
- 15:21Nora: So, yeah, Chris, you've had a good week.
- 15:25Chris: Yeah, I would say so.
- 15:27Chris: We got a short week at work this week, which is nice.
- 15:30Chris: Have been taking some time to get one of our other shows
- 15:34Chris: off the ground that we talked about last week,
- 15:37Chris: Courage to Reconnect with Sarah Manares.
- 15:38Chris: So that's been taking up a lot of time getting that rolling
- 15:42Chris: and people are excited about that.
- 15:45Chris: So yeah, things have been good lately.
- 15:47Chris: The cat, little MK update, she's still in jail.
- 15:51Mandy: Oh no. - Oh no.
- 15:52Chris: See?
- 15:53Chris: we bring her out, we've gotta shove her right back
- 15:56Chris: in the jail.
- 15:57Nora: Have you tried, you gotta look up the Jackson Galaxy
- 16:01Nora: introducing cats method.
- 16:02Nora: Yes, I have not done that yet.
- 16:04Nora: It is the way to introduce your cats,
- 16:06Nora: and I've seen a lot of people on TikTok also have it
- 16:09Nora: be successful for their cats.
- 16:11Nora: You gotta look it up.
- 16:12Nora: I'll text you the link after the show.
- 16:13Video: Please do.
- 16:14Nora: 'Cause it will help.
- 16:15Nora: Like, this is like one thing.
- 16:16Nora: Like poor MK.
- 16:17Nora: Jackson Galaxy knows his cats,
- 16:19Nora: and your cats deserve the best, you know?
- 16:21Nora: And Jackson Galaxy feels that way too.
- 16:23Nora: So I don't know why I'm-
- 16:24Nora: That sounded like an ad read.
- 16:25Nora: I know, I know.
- 16:26Nora: I'm doing an ad read for him right now, yeah.
- 16:30Nora: (laughing)
- 16:31Nora: Yeah, my dog turned six this week.
- 16:34Nora: So we went swimming and then I went to Rush Bowls
- 16:37Nora: and I got her a little Bow Wow cup.
- 16:40Nora: It's like peanut butter and pumpkin and banana.
- 16:44Nora: She went crazy, she got the biggest eyes
- 16:46Nora: and she had a great time.
- 16:48Nora: So I can't believe it's already been six years
- 16:51Nora: with my dog, that's crazy.
- 16:53Nora: So, yeah.
- 16:54Mandy: That's an exciting, exciting point.
- 16:56Chris: What's your favorite adventure with your dog so far?
- 17:01Nora: We've done some really fun ones,
- 17:03Nora: but a couple years ago, we went to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo
- 17:07Nora: in Colorado Springs for dog day.
- 17:08Nora: Oh, for dog day!
- 17:09Nora: At the zoo, and I got to bring my dog to the zoo,
- 17:13Nora: and there's like one area where you can't bring your dog
- 17:16Nora: where it has like the wallabies that are loose,
- 17:18Nora: but the rest, you can take your dog through the whole thing.
- 17:20Nora: My dog made friends with the river otters.
- 17:22Nora: Oh my god, I would die a little.
- 17:24Nora: Very cute, I'll show you.
- 17:26Video: I should have prepared, I have a video of it.
- 17:28Video: It should have been on today, around the net.
- 17:32Mandy: Norris Dog, the sea otter.
- 17:34Mandy: (laughing)
- 17:35Mandy: I'll add it next week.
- 17:37Mandy: How do we link a card, actor?
- 17:39Chris: Yeah, any time we can add sea otters, I'm all for it.
- 17:43Mandy: Yeah. - Right?
- 17:44Mandy: Okay. - Except I learned
- 17:45Mandy: too much about them.
- 17:46Mandy: Yeah.
- 17:47Mandy: Did you, okay, one thing that-
- 17:49Chris: Wait, is there like a dark side to sea otters?
- 17:51Mandy: They're so awful.
- 17:52Mandy: Male sea otters are evil.
- 17:53Mandy: They're like the dolphins of the river.
- 17:56Nora: Yeah.
- 17:56Nora: Oh, terrible.
- 17:57Nora: But the sea otters that live in the kelp forest
- 18:00Nora: that eat all the sea urchins,
- 18:02Nora: they eat so much sea urchin that it purple-izes their bones.
- 18:06Nora: Their bones are literally this purple color.
- 18:08Nora: They're really cool.
- 18:09Mandy: I was like, now am I gonna become a bone person?
- 18:12Mandy: I don't know. - They're cool bones.
- 18:13Nora: They're cool bones.
- 18:14Video: A bone person.
- 18:15Video: (laughing)
- 18:15Video: I mean, look, right?
- 18:16Mandy: There are bone people out there.
- 18:18Video: There are.
- 18:18Video: Am I gonna be a bone guy?
- 18:20Mandy: (laughing)
- 18:21Mandy: Different thing.
- 18:23Video: No, but like-- - Or is it?
- 18:24Mandy: No, but like oddities,
- 18:25Mandy: they're definitely like, you know, I'm an alt girlie,
- 18:29Mandy: and so like, that's not really where my interests lie, but-
- 18:32Mandy: The taxidermy bones bugs, you know.
- 18:34Mandy: Yeah, yeah.
- 18:37Mandy: I have not, I haven't gone that way yet.
- 18:40Chris: You know what we should do for the show
- 18:43Chris: is take a trip to the Oddities Expo.
- 18:46Chris: They have one every year in Denver,
- 18:48Chris: And I think that would be it'd be fun to check out. I've gone once but it was probably like five years ago now
- 18:55Chris: But it would be better now. It might be better now who knows five years ago things were not very good
- 19:00Chris: But that would be I think that would be fun if for the show for the show if nothing else
- 19:04Mandy: No, I'm into that sounds great every birthday every holiday anytime somebody tries to give me a gift
- 19:10Mandy: My group of friends all threatened me with taxidermy stripper mice
- 19:14Mandy: Umples. - One year.
- 19:16Mandy: I really-- - It's gonna happen.
- 19:18Mandy: I don't want it. - You're gonna love it.
- 19:18Mandy: I don't want it.
- 19:20Mandy: (laughing)
- 19:20Nora: Please, please don't.
- 19:22Mandy: I'm the bug girl, clearly.
- 19:23Nora: Like I don't need like the bones.
- 19:25Mandy: I'm okay with just like, you know, all the bones.
- 19:27Mandy: Have you seen the bug dresses from the Victorian era?
- 19:30Mandy: Yeah.
- 19:32Mandy: Just dreamy.
- 19:33Nora: There's some cool bug stuff out there.
- 19:35Chris: Folks, if you want Mandy's address
- 19:36Chris: to find out where to send Taxi Dormity Animals,
- 19:39Chris: give us a call at 888-853-VOTE.
- 19:43Chris: Oh my god, you suck.
- 19:45Chris: That's 888-853-VIBE.
- 19:49Nora: No.
- 19:50Nora: So I think the next thing on our list is just Around the Net.
- 19:53Nora: We have some videos for y'all, so let's go Around the Net.
- 20:05Nora: Okay, so I've got some fun ones today.
- 20:07Nora: The first few are like very like'merca,
- 20:10Nora: and then we're gonna move into some like cool, some fun animals,
- 20:12Nora: which you know that feels pretty standard for me. So, Uncle Sam just wants to wish you happy 250th
- 20:19Video: birthday America. We can play that one. 250 years. Look at us.
- 20:28Video: Economy is something that we are still still figuring that out. That's exciting.
- 20:31Video: You know, new beginnings. Democracy is alive. It's alive.
- 20:37Video: What's wrong with poor Uncle Sam?
- 20:40Video: It's been a rough 250 years.
- 20:42Video: Same thing that's wrong with all of us now.
- 20:46Video: Back in universal health care.
- 20:47Video: I want a drink.
- 20:48Video: Are there things that we could improve on?
- 20:49Video: I want a drink.
- 20:51Video: I think we're doing great.
- 20:52Video: No complaints over here.
- 20:54Video: I feel fine.
- 20:55Video: I feel really good.
- 20:56Video: They're doing things they've never done before with voting,
- 20:59Video: and that's because those things used to be illegal.
- 21:01Video: Other countries look at us and say they are really, really good.
- 21:03Video: It's funny because it's true.
- 21:05Video: 150 years ago, a couple guys had a big idea, and now look at us.
- 21:09Video: We are doing great, you know?
- 21:11Video: (laughing)
- 21:13Video: I feel like this isn't the theme.
- 21:15Video: They're all very cool.
- 21:16Video: (coughing)
- 21:17Video: My video.
- 21:18Video: (laughing)
- 21:18Video: I feel insulted again.
- 21:20Video: (laughing)
- 21:21Video: We're getting it down to almost nothing.
- 21:23Video: We're just gonna get to almost nothing now.
- 21:24Video: You ever see the Purple Mountain's Majesty?
- 21:26Video: And maybe it's hard work, right?
- 21:28Video: It's not easy, what we're doing,
- 21:29Video: but we are still building that ballroom.
- 21:31Video: We're doing very well.
- 21:32Video: (laughing)
- 21:35Mandy: It hurts 'cause it's true.
- 21:37Mandy: Just like the Jessie girl.
- 21:40Mandy: Uh-huh.
- 21:41Mandy: Like you, it's too close to home.
- 21:44Chris: Mandy, I think we need to interview Jessie on the show.
- 21:47Chris: No.
- 21:47Chris: Like a Jessie versus Mandy off.
- 21:49Mandy: I'm like my arch nemesis now.
- 21:52Chris: Yeah.
- 21:52Mandy: Like I feel personally attacked
- 21:54Mandy: every time I see her on my FYB.
- 21:56Chris: As well you should.
- 21:57Chris: Yeah.
- 21:58Nora: The eclectic French.
- 22:00Nora: Yeah.
- 22:01Nora: But she also has so many good craft supplies
- 22:03Nora: in her closet.
- 22:04Mandy: I know, how can you not?
- 22:05Mandy: Yeah.
- 22:06Mandy: You rhinestone everything.
- 22:07Mandy: Everything needs to be sparkly.
- 22:09Mandy: Exactly.
- 22:11Mandy: What's up next?
- 22:12Chris: Now I'm going to find the video where Jesse says the exact same thing.
- 22:15Video: I know, I know. It's there. It's there.
- 22:18Nora: It definitely is.
- 22:20Nora: The next one is just a reminder for anybody's Colorado Fourth of July plans.
- 22:26Video: Uh oh. Something's on fire?
- 22:28Video: It's Fourth of July. What are your plans?
- 22:30Video: I live in Denver so I will be driving around calling on the phone and ratting out anybody who has fireworks going.
- 22:37Video: I'll leave the number in the comments.
- 22:39Nora: Yes!
- 22:41Nora: So if you need something to do this 4th of July, go drive around. Call it in.
- 22:48Nora: Y'all, I live in Weld County. It is land of the fireworks.
- 22:53Nora: Our governor, he has refused to ban fireworks this year,
- 22:59Nora: because first of all, he's a stupid-ass libertarian,
- 23:03Nora: and second of all, he just doesn't care about us,
- 23:08Nora: even though there's like five wildfires going right now
- 23:10Nora: that are 0% contained.
- 23:12Mandy: If you're not in Colorado, the haze
- 23:15Mandy: that is just covering everything
- 23:16Mandy: is just omnipresent at this point.
- 23:18Mandy: And so like, tinderbox, and then we're just gonna-
- 23:22Mandy: Yeah.
- 23:23Chris: There are actually 12 active wildfires.
- 23:25Chris: Oh my God.
- 23:27Nora: There were five this morning, you guys.
- 23:29Nora: There were five this morning.
- 23:31Chris: That's how we're celebrating America.
- 23:34Chris: Mark off.
- 23:34Chris: By burning parts of it down.
- 23:36Nora: And some of these had human origins.
- 23:39Nora: Oh yeah.
- 23:40Chris: Oh, for sure.
- 23:41Chris: They always do.
- 23:42Mandy: Not always, not always, right?
- 23:44Mandy: There was one in Fort Collins that was like underbrush.
- 23:47Nora: Yeah, but there was some arson investigations this week.
- 23:51Chris: They're always humans' fault.
- 23:53Chris: Yeah.
- 23:54Chris: (laughing)
- 23:56Nora: Yeah, sure, it's a joke, whatever.
- 23:58Nora: (laughing)
- 23:59Nora: I agree, it was not a joke to me.
- 24:02Nora: (laughing)
- 24:04Nora: Okay, so I have some more levity here.
- 24:07Nora: I saw this video like half hour before I came in,
- 24:11Nora: I was like, oh my God, this just makes me crack up.
- 24:13Nora: So this is a sheriff's deputy versus a mini horse.
- 24:17Chris: Ooh, I like that.
- 24:19Mandy: Sebastian.
- 24:22Mandy: (laughing)
- 24:31Video: I was like, go, go!
- 24:32Video: Go, little smasher, go!
- 24:33Video: And his partner's in the car,
- 24:35Video: and he's watching him.
- 24:37Video: (laughing)
- 24:38Chris: You think his partner's like,
- 24:40Chris: oh man, this paperwork's gonna suck.
- 24:41Video: No, he's laughing his ass off at him right now,
- 24:44Nora: 'cause that's so dumb.
- 24:47Nora: The lady who recorded this video said
- 24:48Nora: she watched this for a while before she started recording too.
- 24:52Nora: So it just like it went on the zigzagging, just like really,
- 24:57Chris: Ooh, there's already a tick tock version of this where someone has set it to like
- 25:01Chris: the Benny Hill music. Yeah. We need to get to work and I can make that remix
- 25:07Nora: right now. I mean, okay, so moving on to our animal.
- 25:12Nora: Well I guess that one was kind of funny. Next animal, a funny animal.
- 25:17Nora: Have you guys heard of Neil the seal?
- 25:19Nora: No. Yes. Oh my god, what a dick.
- 25:23Nora: Okay, so Neil the seal. He is a southern elephant seal and he
- 25:27Nora: lives off the coast of Tasmania. And he comes back twice a year
- 25:31Nora: to a small town of Howard. And he hates things that are
- 25:35Nora: vertical.
- 25:37Video: He hates a lot.
- 25:39Video: Two cruisers are just moving it.
- 25:42Video: Electric fences is another cruiser down there.
- 25:45Video: This is his aftermath.
- 25:46Video: I'm gonna smash through these fence.
- 25:48Video: Oh my God.
- 25:50Video: (laughing)
- 25:53Video: He's only four.
- 25:54Video: Back in his favorite spot.
- 25:58Video: Next to the fence.
- 26:00Mandy: I love when he just takes over a road.
- 26:02Mandy: Yeah.
- 26:02Mandy: Like this is mine now, move around.
- 26:04Mandy: Hold on, just look at that.
- 26:06Nora: This is the fourth year he's done it too.
- 26:08Nora: Oh my God.
- 26:09Nora: He comes back to the same spot.
- 26:11Nora: So let's watch the next one because Neil the Seal,
- 26:14Nora: he's a tank.
- 26:15Nora: He's a menace.
- 26:16Nora: He's a menace and I love him.
- 26:18Nora: I love every ounce of him.
- 26:20Nora: A lot of ounces.
- 26:21Nora: Yeah.
- 26:22Nora: You might wanna mute this.
- 26:26Nora: But, so he's trying to get past some of the bollards here
- 26:29Nora: and some of the, you know, blockades.
- 26:32Nora: He's not small.
- 26:34Nora: No, he's not.
- 26:35Nora: But he's not full grown yet.
- 26:37Nora: Like he's not, he has not hit his maturity.
- 26:41Video: Look at his face.
- 26:42Nora: Is that green?
- 26:43Nora: Is that green?
- 26:45Video: (laughter)
- 26:52Video: I love Neal the Seal.
- 26:53Video: That's because he's just nude.
- 26:58Chris: That's incredible.
- 26:59Video: That's yeah.
- 27:02Video: He is mad.
- 27:05Chris: Okay. Neil the Seal is my favorite.
- 27:07Nora: Oh yeah.
- 27:08Nora: Okay. So here's another video of a Neal the Seal aftermath.
- 27:13Mandy: nothing is allowed to be vertical he haunts the place he takes all the posts down
- 27:23Mandy: you know maybe he's an ecological hero he's taking all the posts out he's like we want it
- 27:29Mandy: to revert it back to nature he makes fights with cones
- 27:37Nora: uh man this is everyone appreciating neil the seal and you got to make sure he has
- 27:41Nora: plenty of space because um don't go up to a seal these guys are really i've seen tourists he's like
- 27:48Nora: 800 pounds yeah well they're dumb don't do that i've seen tourists in colorado right you can say
- 27:54Mandy: don't approach wildlife don't approach wildlife but yeah but you know you know but i mean if
- 28:00Nora: the 800 pound seal decides to go after you then he goes after you all right i have one more okay
- 28:04Chris: hold on what before we get to the last meal yeah uh i just want to point out that this seal has
- 28:09Chris: has his own Wikipedia page.
- 28:11Chris: Yes, yes. - Yes, yep.
- 28:12Chris: Holy crap.
- 28:13Nora: Okay, so I'm wrong, he wasn't born,
- 28:15Nora: he's not four years old, he was born in 2020.
- 28:17Nora: So, but he repeatedly comes back onto this specific beach
- 28:22Nora: near Hobart in Tasmania.
- 28:25Nora: And so like, he repeatedly comes back,
- 28:28Nora: they'll go live in Australia
- 28:29Nora: and just like have like, like Neil the Seal lives.
- 28:34Nora: That's incredible. - And he's fantastic.
- 28:35Nora: He's great, he's really great.
- 28:37Nora: leave Neil the Seal alone because he's doing his nature thing.
- 28:41Chris: 'Cause he's 2,000 pounds.
- 28:43Nora: Yeah, and we don't approach wildlife.
- 28:45Nora: When I first was made aware of him,
- 28:47Nora: he was only about 800, so he's grown significantly.
- 28:50Nora: This is, the reason I said four is because
- 28:52Nora: this is the fourth year that I have seen him.
- 28:54Chris: How many children have gone missing
- 28:56Chris: in the local area in the last five years?
- 28:58Chris: Because I think that explains the weight gain.
- 29:01Nora: I think we should actually look into that.
- 29:05Nora: I'm gonna have to make a-
- 29:06Nora: Match up the timelines.
- 29:07Chris: Spreadsheet.
- 29:08Chris: It's gonna be a vibe check investigation.
- 29:10Mandy: Yeah.
- 29:11Mandy: We'd like to make a spreadsheet.
- 29:12Mandy: No, with the photos and like the red lines.
- 29:16Mandy: (laughing)
- 29:16Video: A timeline of Neil's placement.
- 29:19Video: And then this happened, and then this kid went missing.
- 29:21Video: And if you look, it makes a smiley face.
- 29:25Video: (laughing)
- 29:29Nora: So we have one more of Neil DeCille
- 29:31Nora: because he's just a great guy.
- 29:34Nora: (laughing)
- 29:36Nora: This is what happened to the posts from the last video.
- 29:39Chris: I like how he just keeps going.
- 29:41Nora: Oh yeah.
- 29:42Nora: He's done this to businesses.
- 29:44Nora: Sometimes he'll like go in front of somebody's garage
- 29:46Nora: and they'll be like,
- 29:47Nora: "Hey, Neil, this deal is in front of my house.
- 29:49Chris: I can't go to work today."
- 29:51Chris: If I drove by that, I would be scared shitless.
- 29:54Chris: I know.
- 29:55Chris: (Neil growling)
- 29:56Chris: Oh my God.
- 29:58Mandy: He mad.
- 29:59Chris: He's mad.
- 30:00Mandy: Once again, I will say ecological hero.
- 30:04Mandy: Yeah.
- 30:05Nora: Mm-hmm, that's what, oh man.
- 30:10Nora: I'm up with a good name.
- 30:14Nora: Okay, so yeah, that's Neil the seal.
- 30:17Nora: Wow. - He's fantastic.
- 30:19Chris: Way to go, Neil the seal.
- 30:20Nora: I'll let everyone know when he's back for his next time
- 30:23Nora: because he'll go back into the ocean.
- 30:25Nora: Cool fun fact about elephant seals
- 30:27Nora: that they learned recently,
- 30:27Nora: they put little trackers on their brain.
- 30:29Nora: They literally put themselves into REM sleep,
- 30:33Nora: spiral a couple of
- 30:35Nora: Miles down to the bottom of the ocean wake up and then go hunt
- 30:40Nora: It's crazy. That's how they literally put themselves into REM sleep
- 30:43Nora: So they dream and they're spiraling down to the bottom of the ocean and then they pop back up and go hunt
- 30:49Chris: Huh wait?
- 30:51Nora: any questions so like
- 30:54Nora: Is the spiraling what puts themselves to sleep? No, they they are spiraling and sleeping at the same time. Okay? Yeah
- 31:03Nora: It's like a whole eight minutes of them diving and spiraling of them in like REM sleep
- 31:08Nora: And then they like wake up and go do things and they just learned this this year
- 31:11Mandy: Wait, so they can only do it for like the amount of time it takes them to hit the bottom and then they go back
- 31:15Mandy: So they have like really really short sleep cycles. Yeah
- 31:20Nora: Interesting, right? Yeah, and they might also do have different sleep cycles on land, but that is their swimming sleep cycle
- 31:26Nora: It's a fascinating fascinating. Yep. All right. I have one more and
- 31:31Nora: And this is a cat that is enjoying its butterfly toy, I think.
- 31:38Video: (laughing)
- 31:42Video: There's a butterfly in my ass.
- 31:45Chris: I didn't know it was that kind of party.
- 31:47Video: A butterfly is in my ass.
- 31:51Video: (laughing)
- 31:54Video: Butterfly in my ass.
- 31:58Chris: I love that they got like the,
- 31:59Chris: the 50-year-old New Yorker who smokes two packs a day
- 32:03Chris: to a lot of bad boys.
- 32:04Mandy: It adds a little something.
- 32:05Chris: It really does.
- 32:07Chris: (laughing)
- 32:08Chris: That's incredible.
- 32:10Nora: Thanks for sharing those.
- 32:11Nora: Yeah, those are my Around the Nets for the week.
- 32:14Chris: I have only one because the other ones
- 32:19Chris: I couldn't get to download properly,
- 32:21Chris: but it's impressive nonetheless.
- 32:29Nora: That's basic.
- 32:31Video: (laughing)
- 32:38Video: In his little chicken costume.
- 32:41Chris: How great is that?
- 32:42Chris: Aren't cats awesome when they're not
- 32:44Chris: trying to kill each other?
- 32:45Nora: Yeah.
- 32:46Video: That's pretty adorable.
- 32:47Video: Yeah.
- 32:48Nora: I really have faith in Jackson Galaxy's advice helping you.
- 32:52Nora: Otherwise I wouldn't give it to you.
- 32:53Chris: I'm very hopeful.
- 32:56Chris: Yes, very hopeful.
- 32:57Nora: Cool.
- 32:58Nora: All right, so I think the next thing is sponsor spot.
- 33:00Nora: Chris, do you wanna talk about the new show?
- 33:02Nora: 'Cause I know you've been working on it this week.
- 33:04Chris: Sure, why not?
- 33:06Chris: Folks, here at Loudspeaker, we do a show like this,
- 33:09Chris: but we also, where we have fun and do silly things
- 33:13Chris: for your entertainment, but it's not all we do.
- 33:17Chris: At Loudspeaker Studios, we produce a number of shows
- 33:20Chris: on a number of different topics,
- 33:22Chris: and one that we are proud to have available right now
- 33:28Chris: is called The Courage to Reconnect.
- 33:30Chris: This is a self-improvement,
- 33:34Chris: relationship-building podcast about the things
- 33:38Chris: that hold us back in life and the ways in which we can
- 33:43Chris: kind of rise above that and learn to deal with those things.
- 33:47Chris: The show's hosted by Sarah Menares, who's a friend of ours,
- 33:51Chris: who we've done shows with in the past.
- 33:53Chris: She is a licensed counselor
- 33:55Chris: and has a number of other accolades.
- 33:57Chris: She's also a published author.
- 33:59Chris: And this show, yeah, really is all about
- 34:02Chris: what's keeping us stuck in life,
- 34:04Chris: and especially in terms of our self-reflection,
- 34:08Chris: and how to go about dealing with those.
- 34:10Chris: And it's a video podcast,
- 34:12Chris: so you can watch it as well as listen to it.
- 34:14Chris: We've got the first two episodes available now.
- 34:17Chris: And it airs Tuesday nights here on Loudspeaker.
- 34:20Chris: So in addition to this live show,
- 34:24Chris: we do so many other things.
- 34:26Chris: Primarily we are a radio station,
- 34:29Chris: but not just one radio station at the moment,
- 34:31Chris: we have six different radio stations.
- 34:34Chris: So we have Loudspeaker One,
- 34:35Chris: which is our kind of flagship station,
- 34:37Chris: what you might be hearing this on right now,
- 34:40Chris: where we play indie music, new music,
- 34:42Chris: undiscovered artists, all sorts of fun stuff.
- 34:46Chris: And then we have a station called Call a Radio,
- 34:48Chris: which is a little play on words I came up with
- 34:50Chris: that I think is good and no one else does.
- 34:53Chris: Aw, bless. - But we focus on-
- 34:54Nora: I was gonna say I like it.
- 34:55Nora: Thank you.
- 34:56Chris: We focus on Colorado artists,
- 34:59Chris: artists that are based right here in our home state.
- 35:02Chris: And yeah, we have an entire 24 hour channel
- 35:05Chris: devoted to Colorado artists.
- 35:07Chris: Radio Remix is kind of rebroadcasts
- 35:10Chris: of our talk shows like this.
- 35:12Chris: So it's a way to discover your next new favorite show.
- 35:15Chris: In addition to, you know,
- 35:16Chris: if you just want to pretend it's the 1960s
- 35:20Chris: and you put on AM radio when you're doing other stuff
- 35:22Chris: and just listen to people talk, Radio Remix does that.
- 35:25Chris: but for the digital age.
- 35:26Chris: We have the Riot, which is a station
- 35:29Chris: that focuses entirely on LGBTQIA artists.
- 35:33Chris: So you'll hear artists like Hailey Kiyoko,
- 35:38Chris: Sienna Lillians, Sarah Christine,
- 35:42Chris: lots of queer artists, some that you know, some you don't.
- 35:45Chris: That's a good time.
- 35:46Chris: We have a station devoted to the 80s,
- 35:48Chris: which is, I think, the best single decade of pop music.
- 35:53Chris: and then we have our newest station, Revolution 6,
- 35:56Chris: which focuses on the music of the 1960s.
- 35:59Chris: All of this is free, no commercials, no paywalls,
- 36:03Chris: available to you wherever you want it at loudspeaker.org.
- 36:07Chris: And then we also have mobile apps as well
- 36:09Chris: for your iPhone or your Android device or your iPad.
- 36:13Chris: So you can take us wherever you are,
- 36:16Chris: or you can listen to us in the car,
- 36:17Chris: you can listen to us at the gym,
- 36:19Chris: listen to us when you're baking brownies.
- 36:21Chris: Just just check us out.
- 36:23Chris: And if you have the ability to support us monetarily, then go to loudspeaker
- 36:28Chris: dot org and click on the donate button.
- 36:29Chris: We'd very much appreciate it.
- 36:31Chris: But if you can't, maybe just share this show or something else
- 36:35Chris: that we do with a friend. That's all it takes.
- 36:37Chris: We are in this together and we love making stuff for you.
- 36:41Chris: So join the family here at loudspeaker.
- 36:44Nora: Oh, excellent.
- 36:46Nora: I've been listening a lot to loudspeaker one is my go to.
- 36:51Nora: but I also will listen to the Riot. Those are my go-to stations.
- 36:57Chris: Good mix of music on those stations, and we are adding more all the time, so
- 37:03Chris: it's really, really cool to offer this to people. And there's a lot of other services out there
- 37:10Chris: that do what we do and do it in a very different way. You have your SiriusXM radio and people like
- 37:16Chris: that and but the thing of it is that that stuff's all behind a paywall and
- 37:21Chris: you know we're in this age where you don't buy anything you rent it and you
- 37:26Chris: know there's there's that quote of like you will own nothing and be happy well
- 37:29Chris: we don't believe in putting our stuff behind a paywall we believe that art
- 37:32Chris: music video TV is for everyone so that's why we make it available for free but we
- 37:38Chris: can only do that with your support so go to loudspeaker.org if you have the means
- 37:44Chris: too, and feel free to click on that little donate button.
- 37:47Mandy: You know, subscribe on YouTube?
- 37:49Chris: Absolutely, subscribe to this channel.
- 37:52Mandy: Chat with us.
- 37:53Mandy: Like, comment.
- 37:53Mandy: I love interacting with the chat.
- 37:56Mandy: Like, I feel like that's my job here.
- 37:58Mandy: (laughing)
- 37:59Mandy: Chat manager.
- 38:00Video: (laughing)
- 38:01Video: Chat manager.
- 38:03Mandy: Occasional co-producer, co-host.
- 38:05Mandy: (laughing)
- 38:06Chris: Hey, you did set up the rundown this week.
- 38:08Mandy: I did, and you know what?
- 38:10Mandy: I asked for a pay raise because of that
- 38:13Mandy: in the form of a croissant.
- 38:15Chris: And that will definitely be coming.
- 38:17Mandy: Yeah, just not, we have too much other food today.
- 38:20Mandy: Oh, I know, oh my God, so much food.
- 38:22Mandy: We're excited, 'cause we're doing,
- 38:24Mandy: if you haven't figured it out, America themed,
- 38:26Mandy: which is on some days.
- 38:28Mandy: For better or worse.
- 38:29Mandy: Some days it's real, it's a struggle.
- 38:32Mandy: It's a struggle.
- 38:34Mandy: But we decided that we wanted to try
- 38:36Mandy: and bring some levity to America,
- 38:39Mandy: 'cause we know it's, I don't wanna say,
- 38:42Mandy: There's lots of stuff that we've done wrong or that's interesting or a lot of stuff has happened over the last 250 years
- 38:48Nora: I could I could say that with confidence a lot of stuff has happened. Yeah, so this wasn't my idea
- 38:55Nora: Thinking we could do this, uh, did you want to do it? Uh chronologically chronologically?
- 39:00Nora: Okay. Okay. So I think the first one that we have here is the pig war
- 39:06Chris: Yes, uh, and that got added to the rundown pretty late. So yeah the pig war
- 39:11Chris: The pig war is something where,
- 39:15Chris: where did my notes go on?
- 39:16Chris: Oh, they're at the very bottom.
- 39:17Chris: Yeah, this was a border standoff
- 39:19Chris: between the US and Britain on San Juan Island.
- 39:22Chris: This happened in 1859,
- 39:24Chris: began after an American farmer shot a trespassing pig
- 39:28Chris: who was owned by a British person.
- 39:31Chris: (laughing)
- 39:32Mandy: Okay, look, it sounds funny,
- 39:33Mandy: but have you ever seen like javelinas, like wild pigs?
- 39:36Mandy: They're scary.
- 39:37Mandy: Terrifying.
- 39:38Mandy: I mean, wild hogs are a problem in Arkansas.
- 39:41Mandy: There are problems everywhere.
- 39:43Mandy: Oh, there's this meme, you guys,
- 39:44Mandy: about the, it shows a map of America
- 39:47Mandy: and all the black dots represent wild hogs.
- 39:50Mandy: And somebody said, wow,
- 39:51Mandy: they're really protecting their borders.
- 39:53Mandy: (laughing)
- 39:55Chris: I mean, this might've been the first instance
- 39:57Chris: of American border enforcement
- 40:00Chris: because this ended up creating a several month long standup
- 40:05Chris: with armed troops at both sides of the border,
- 40:09Chris: essentially standing there with their guns pointed
- 40:12Chris: at each other saying, "We demand an apology."
- 40:16Chris: Not a shot was fired, there was no violence
- 40:18Chris: other than the pig itself was the only casualty
- 40:23Chris: of that war, and it took several years
- 40:27Chris: to actually resolve this.
- 40:28Chris: So that tells you that even from an early age
- 40:33Chris: when America was just a wee one,
- 40:35Chris: we knew how to hold a grudge.
- 40:37Mandy: Oh, that feels right.
- 40:39Mandy: That feels right.
- 40:39Mandy: That feels like deep down in my soul, right?
- 40:41Mandy: I'm like, yeah, America.
- 40:43Mandy: Yeah, right?
- 40:45Mandy: I struggled a lot with this.
- 40:47Mandy: I do have a degree in history,
- 40:50Mandy: one of my many worthless degrees,
- 40:54Mandy: but it does not involve US history until the LGBT.
- 40:57Chris: Wait, was the philosophy degree filled up already?
- 41:01Mandy: You know, I could only do so many.
- 41:04Mandy: I double majored.
- 41:05Mandy: So I chose English and history,
- 41:07Mandy: If I could have triple or quadruple majored,
- 41:09Mandy: I probably would have.
- 41:10Mandy: That was a political science,
- 41:11Mandy: environmental studies double major.
- 41:12Nora: I feel environmental studies is pretty useful now.
- 41:15Nora: Political science.
- 41:15Nora: (mimics explosion)
- 41:17Nora: Meanwhile.
- 41:18Nora: I'm not in this world,
- 41:19Nora: but maybe in the world that was pre-2016.
- 41:22Nora: Fair, sound, sound.
- 41:24Chris: Meanwhile, I dropped out.
- 41:27Video: (laughing)
- 41:29Mandy: It's okay, I will let you-
- 41:30Chris: Folks, don't ever let anyone tell you
- 41:32Chris: that dropouts can't do anything.
- 41:34Chris: Just look at this.
- 41:35Mandy: Exactly.
- 41:36Mandy: You know, I will let you use one of my degrees.
- 41:39Mandy: I very rarely use them.
- 41:40Chris: Oh, awesome.
- 41:41Chris: Do I get to pick?
- 41:42Mandy: Yeah, you want the law degree?
- 41:44Mandy: I kinda do want the law degree.
- 41:46Mandy: I will sell it to you real cheap.
- 41:47Chris: Awesome.
- 41:48Video: Barely used, barely used.
- 41:51Chris: When I was a kid, I really wanted to be a lawyer.
- 41:55Chris: And to this day, one of my favorite comfort shows
- 41:58Chris: to put on the background is Law & Order.
- 42:00Mandy: Okay, then you don't want to become an attorney
- 42:02Mandy: because once you are, you can never watch that show
- 42:05Mandy: ever again without losing your mind.
- 42:07Mandy: I mean, like this is just fiction.
- 42:09Chris: Yeah, I know there are large swaths of it
- 42:12Chris: that are very inaccurate and things are condensed
- 42:14Chris: and whatever, but it's still,
- 42:17Chris: I don't wanna say a guilty pleasure
- 42:18Chris: because I don't believe in that,
- 42:19Chris: it's still just a joy.
- 42:20Mandy: Yeah. - Fair.
- 42:21Mandy: I don't wanna name any names,
- 42:23Mandy: but one of my fellow students in law school
- 42:27Mandy: would argue with our evidence professor
- 42:30Mandy: because, "Hershey, we know it was right,
- 42:32Mandy: "it was on law and order.
- 42:33Mandy: Like it was right because they said so in law and order.
- 42:37Chris: Did they think it was a documentary?
- 42:39Mandy: Look, I don't want to say any, like not naming any names,
- 42:42Mandy: but this person went on to be number one ranked
- 42:45Mandy: in our school.
- 42:48Mandy: Best GPA.
- 42:50Chris: Fuck you, whoever you are.
- 42:53Mandy: (laughing)
- 42:54Chris: And he's too nice to say that, but I'm not.
- 42:57Chris: (laughing)
- 42:58Mandy: It's one of those bless your heart moments, right?
- 43:00Mandy: Where like they're really good at taking tests,
- 43:01Mandy: but not living in the world.
- 43:02Mandy: Yeah.
- 43:04Mandy: So my, one of my contributions is called
- 43:08Mandy: the Kentucky meat shower.
- 43:10Mandy: Ooh, tell us about this.
- 43:12Mandy: So in 1876, around lunchtime,
- 43:15Mandy: which I feel is a little fitting.
- 43:18Chris: (laughing)
- 43:19Chris: There's a time for it to rain meat.
- 43:21Mandy: Rained meat in Kentucky over the,
- 43:24Mandy: I think it was like a hundred yards.
- 43:28Mandy: And yeah, people were like, hey,
- 43:31Mandy: Manna from heaven, raw meat, it was red meat.
- 43:35Mandy: Let's watch the video.
- 43:36Mandy: I think they describe it pretty well.
- 43:39Video: 1876 Kentucky.
- 43:41Video: Yeah, that was meat falling from a clear blue sky.
- 43:45Video: For several minutes.
- 43:46Chris: Okay, this is really well done.
- 43:48Chris: I love whoever made this.
- 43:50Video: It's the Weather Channel, you guys.
- 43:51Chris: Amazing. - Oh my God, wow.
- 43:52Chris: Thank you, Weather Channel.
- 43:53Video: Chunks of raw flesh rained across a hundred yard stretch.
- 43:57Video: Well, holy (beep) that's not your typical weather.
- 43:59Video: (laughing)
- 44:01Chris: Is the weather channel dropping bleeps now?
- 44:04Mandy: Yes, I drop like mad props to their social media person.
- 44:08Video: That's good shit.
- 44:09Chris: Not your father's weather channel.
- 44:12Video: Locals swore it was a divine sign,
- 44:14Video: but the leading theory, vulture vomit.
- 44:17Video: When threatened, turkey vultures projectile vomit
- 44:20Video: to escape faster, lightening their load mid-flight.
- 44:23Video: And Tess proved it.
- 44:24Video: The chunks were partially digested tissue
- 44:26Video: from whatever dead animal they'd been eating.
- 44:28Video: Oh my God.
- 44:29Video: Yeah, some people actually tasted it.
- 44:31Video: Yup, yup.
- 44:32Video: Tastes like mutton?
- 44:34Video: Roasted.
- 44:35Video: That's the Kentucky Meat Shower.
- 44:36Video: Proof the sky's not broken, it's just on Demon Time.
- 44:39Video: (laughing)
- 44:40Video: It's just on Demon Time.
- 44:44Video: Oh my God.
- 44:46Video: You're welcome.
- 44:46Video: This is great.
- 44:48Video: That's so gross.
- 44:49Chris: I don't think anything's gonna top that.
- 44:51Mandy: Yeah, I know, I know, 'cause that's my good one.
- 44:54Mandy: That's gross.
- 44:55Mandy: I feel like I blew my lid a little early.
- 44:57Mandy: (laughing)
- 44:58Chris: Hate it when that happens.
- 44:59Mandy: Yeah, no, but so somebody ate it and said,
- 45:01Mandy: "Oh, I think it tastes like lamb."
- 45:04Mandy: And I'm like, "Ew."
- 45:05Mandy: Like, "Ew?"
- 45:06Chris: I think it tastes like (gags)
- 45:08Mandy: Okay, so what I find fascinating is that for,
- 45:11Mandy: people took it and saved it and put them in jars.
- 45:14Mandy: Yeah.
- 45:15Mandy: We still have them.
- 45:16Mandy: The jars survive.
- 45:17Mandy: People have been running tests on them for forever.
- 45:21Mandy: The vulture meat?
- 45:21Mandy: Oh! - There you go!
- 45:24Nora: Oh my God.
- 45:24Nora: Gross. - Yeah.
- 45:25Mandy: Meat grain.
- 45:27Mandy: They were trying to identify what it was,
- 45:30Mandy: but they weren't actually able to because, you know,
- 45:32Mandy: obviously it's like 150 years old.
- 45:34Mandy: So that's not actually happening.
- 45:36Chris: Wait, you're telling me,
- 45:38Chris: you're telling me that like we have the ability
- 45:41Chris: to do all of these technological advancements
- 45:44Chris: and we can't figure out what meat it came from 150 years ago?
- 45:48Mandy: My understanding is that it was so poorly preserved.
- 45:53Mandy: Right, I think they like just threw it in alcohol
- 45:55Mandy: and said, have a good time.
- 45:56Mandy: See you in 150 years.
- 45:58Mandy: You can go see some of it.
- 45:59Mandy: It's I think in a university,
- 46:03Mandy: Transylvania University in Kentucky.
- 46:05Mandy: Anyways, it exists.
- 46:07Mandy: It's there.
- 46:08Mandy: It was not a hoax.
- 46:09Mandy: Yeah.
- 46:09Mandy: For years people thought
- 46:11Mandy: people were making up the story.
- 46:12Mandy: It was a hoax.
- 46:13Mandy: Nope, nope, Israel and someone ate it.
- 46:15Mandy: Hey, you eating random meat from the sky?
- 46:18Mandy: No.
- 46:18Mandy: Yeah.
- 46:19Nora: No, thank you.
- 46:19Nora: But I mean,
- 46:21Nora: Claudia with a Chance of Meatballs is kind of a dream.
- 46:23Nora: (laughing)
- 46:25Nora: No, it's not.
- 46:27Nora: (laughing)
- 46:28Nora: It is a horror story.
- 46:29Nora: There's a reason why it was a sequel
- 46:30Nora: and it all became sentient, right?
- 46:33Video: No, that's true.
- 46:34Video: Yeah, it is a horror story.
- 46:37Chris: So Charles has entered the chat.
- 46:40Chris: He said, "It is too loud where I'm at right now,
- 46:44Chris: "so I need you to do an interpretive dance."
- 46:46Video: (laughing)
- 46:47Mandy: You know, I was trained as a ballerina, a Russian.
- 46:53Mandy: Yeah, so um, here we go.
- 46:59Video: Meat RACE!
- 47:17Video: You're welcome, Charles.
- 47:19Video: You better, you better, you better appreciate that.
- 47:24Nora: All right, so the next one that I wanted to, next American event is the Great American,
- 47:33Nora: not the Great American State Fair.
- 47:35Video: Sorry, I just saw it on playback.
- 47:41Video: I think it was maybe my new favorite.
- 47:43Video: We're going to have to cut that one for the intro.
- 47:48Nora: So not the Great American State Fair, which is happening right now in DC, which is really
- 47:52Nora: lame and boring. But this was probably the best World's Fair. The 1893 Chicago World's Fair.
- 47:59Nora: Love and Murder.
- 47:59Nora: This was to celebrate Columbus discovering America. So there wasn't a real reason for it,
- 48:06Nora: other than it being 400 years since that happened. But a bunch of people got together
- 48:12Nora: in the 1800s and came up with this giant white city and it was incredible. Chris,
- 48:18Nora: would you play a little bit of the video while I so these are some some snapshots of
- 48:24Nora: Of the Chicago World's Fair all of it burned down within a few years after the Chicago World Fair existed
- 48:31Nora: But this was like the most elaborate most American thing that you could ever think of
- 48:37Nora: There were so many American inventions that happened at the Chicago World's Fair
- 48:42Nora: We had the zipper. Oh, we're gonna pause it. We don't need to watch any more of this video
- 48:46Nora: I just wanted to show some of the pictures of it, but we have the zipper. We have Cracker Jacks
- 48:52Nora: We have the Ferris wheel. Okay, chewing gum
- 48:57Nora: dishwashers the first automatic dishwasher and
- 49:00Nora: Pabst Blue Ribbon beer. Oh, that's the most important one
- 49:03Nora: It was award-winning beer and ever since then it has been Pabst Blue Ribbon
- 49:08Nora: So this was a really cool time in American history
- 49:12Nora: You wouldn't want to go back there if you time-traveled because there was also a murderer named HH Holmes
- 49:17Nora: Who was taking advantage of all the travelers and killing people he was he was convicted of 27
- 49:23Nora: It was like hundreds more we know it was
- 49:25Video: But some people say it was only nine so who knows how many people he killed
- 49:30Mandy: No, cause he had like the murder house set up with like a maze and like he would play games of like
- 49:35Mandy: Yeah, like how can I kill this one? How will I do this one differently?
- 49:38Mandy: How like at least I can appreciate like a scientific curiosity and then he would sell their skeletons to science
- 49:46Chris: That's what he did as one does. Yeah, so well, you need some way to finance your murder spree. Oh, no
- 49:51Mandy: No, he murder he would marry and murder. Yeah
- 49:54Chris: He would also he was a black widow or whatever whatever the man
- 49:59Mandy: Wasn't just that it was also anybody who came to stay in his hotel was fair game
- 50:02Nora: And he was he was married at least twice at least one time
- 50:06Nora: At one time like he married multiple women and like yeah, he would
- 50:11Nora: Forge a bunch of documents and he was not a good guy, but very American
- 50:18Nora: Yeah, I just wanted to you know, there's it's called the murder castle if you want to read more about this
- 50:22Chris: You can read devil in the white city. It's a great book about it. Meanwhile at the Great American State Fair
- 50:30Chris: Check out the numbers. I
- 50:33Nora: Don't think that's true
- 50:35Chris: He really does love AI, doesn't he?
- 50:38Chris: Sorry, that's the wrong tab.
- 50:39Chris: Here's an actual photo from the Great American State Fair.
- 50:43Video: (laughing)
- 50:44Video: That's so sad.
- 50:48Nora: Yeah, and there's also an Arc de Triomphe,
- 50:51Nora: but it's like an Arc de Cardboard.
- 50:53Nora: No, I gotta stop doing a bit about it,
- 50:55Mandy: 'cause it's just so bad.
- 50:57Mandy: They have like, stapled, like they printed out
- 51:00Mandy: what looks like brick and like stone,
- 51:03Mandy: and then like stapled it on.
- 51:04Mandy: It's not good.
- 51:05Chris: Wow, my favorite anecdote about that is that
- 51:08Chris: Vanilla Ice, who was the one artist
- 51:12Chris: with any sort of notoriety who didn't drop out
- 51:16Chris: of the festival, his concert got rained out.
- 51:19Chris: (laughing)
- 51:22Mandy: How many more ways you have to say
- 51:23Mandy: the universe doesn't like you here?
- 51:25Chris: No kidding.
- 51:26Nora: They don't want you here.
- 51:28Nora: Yeah, so that was my first event here, I think.
- 51:32Chris: Why don't we have World's Fairs anymore?
- 51:34Nora: We do.
- 51:35Nora: Yeah.
- 51:36Nora: We do.
- 51:36Nora: My sister got to go to one sponsored
- 51:38Nora: by the State Department and she went to Dubai.
- 51:40Chris: Nice.
- 51:41Chris: For a second there, I thought you were gonna say
- 51:42Chris: like sponsored by Carl's Jr.
- 51:44Chris: Yeah.
- 51:45Nora: Yeah.
- 51:46Nora: I mean now.
- 51:46Nora: Coca-Cola is the main sponsor of it.
- 51:49Nora: And the next one is gonna be in either Seoul or Tokyo.
- 51:53Nora: And I think it's coming up soon.
- 51:55Mandy: I don't know.
- 51:55Mandy: I just remember the 1904 one was where
- 51:58Mandy: they invented ice cream cones.
- 52:00Mandy: 'Cause before you had penny licks that were like,
- 52:03Mandy: they would put them in a little cup
- 52:04Mandy: and everyone would lick it and hand it back
- 52:06Mandy: and then they'd just do it over again.
- 52:07Mandy: Ew. - Yeah.
- 52:09Mandy: Ew. - My OCD is not okay with this.
- 52:12Mandy: (laughing)
- 52:13Mandy: And so they invented ice cream cones at the 1904 one.
- 52:16Mandy: Cool. - Yeah.
- 52:18Chris: The only thing I know about the World's Fair
- 52:21Chris: is that it plays a rather significant plot point
- 52:25Chris: in a Simpsons episode where Bart gets a fake ID
- 52:30Chris: and decides that they're gonna drive
- 52:31Chris: to Knoxville, Tennessee for the World's Fair,
- 52:34Chris: not realizing that it had already been years ago
- 52:37Chris: when it passed.
- 52:38Chris: And all that remained there in the Sun Sphere
- 52:40Chris: was a box of soiled wigs that they purchased.
- 52:44Chris: 'Cause he's like, "Oh, that's the wig sphere."
- 52:46Nora: Yeah.
- 52:47Nora: So, okay, I was wrong.
- 52:48Nora: The last one was Expo 2025, and that was in Osaka.
- 52:52Nora: And then it was there for six months,
- 52:54Nora: and the next one will be 3030 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
- 52:58Chris: So-- - 3030 or 2030?
- 53:00Nora: 2030. - Okay.
- 53:01Nora: I was like, "Damn, they're really planning that out."
- 53:03Nora: I was like, "I don't know what year it is."
- 53:04Nora: I don't think we're gonna make that one.
- 53:07Nora: Yeah.
- 53:08Nora: Yeah.
- 53:09Nora: So I think, let's see, the next one is, what,
- 53:13Nora: the Great Molasses Flood?
- 53:14Nora: Oh, I love this one.
- 53:15Video: It's one of my favorites. - Yeah.
- 53:16Video: It's so scary.
- 53:17Mandy: I love it.
- 53:18Mandy: It's scary.
- 53:19Mandy: Oh.
- 53:21Mandy: But I also fall asleep watching those
- 53:23Mandy: What Went Wrong videos in warehouses and factories.
- 53:27Mandy: So I find that one fascinating.
- 53:29Mandy: Mm-hmm.
- 53:31Chris: Hilarious.
- 53:32Chris: This one?
- 53:33Chris: (laughing)
- 53:34Chris: So, yeah, this happened in 1919,
- 53:37Chris: and this happened in North Boston.
- 53:39Chris: There was apparently a poorly constructed
- 53:42Chris: molasses tank burst.
- 53:44Chris: Basically, the entire area flooded with molasses syrup
- 53:48Chris: that somehow killed 21 people.
- 53:50Mandy: It moved 26 miles an hour.
- 53:52Mandy: It was really fast, and really, it was boiling hot.
- 53:54Nora: It moved 26 miles an hour.
- 53:56Chris: That's nuts.
- 53:57Chris: and people apparently smelled molasses for decades.
- 54:01Nora: That's the part, you can still smell it.
- 54:03Nora: Legend has it you can still smell it today.
- 54:05Chris: Really? - Yeah.
- 54:06Nora: So what happened was the tank,
- 54:08Nora: there was a bunch of cold molasses at the bottom,
- 54:11Nora: and then there was a new shipment of molasses
- 54:13Nora: that went on top, and it wasn't cooled properly,
- 54:16Nora: and then everything was really-
- 54:17Nora: It would contract, it was a new one,
- 54:19Nora: so it was contracting and expanding incorrectly.
- 54:21Nora: And then it hadn't been fixed in a while,
- 54:24Nora: And then it was a really warm day in January in Boston,
- 54:28Nora: like a 50 degree day.
- 54:30Nora: And all of a sudden it started creaking and crumbling
- 54:33Nora: and it enveloped cars, it enveloped people,
- 54:36Nora: it enveloped horses.
- 54:37Nora: Literally like imagine just like all of a sudden
- 54:39Nora: being suffocated by like, I don't know, tar.
- 54:42Nora: Yeah. - Yeah.
- 54:43Nora: And it moved really fast, like 26 miles an hour.
- 54:46Nora: You can't outrun that.
- 54:47Nora: Yeah, 'cause it wasn't cold.
- 54:48Nora: No, you can't outrun that.
- 54:49Chris: So why do they say slow as molasses?
- 54:51Mandy: Have you ever tried to get molasses out of a jar?
- 54:54Mandy: It takes forever. - When it's cold.
- 54:56Mandy: Yeah, it's the surface tension.
- 54:58Chris: You know what could have solved that?
- 54:59Chris: Some meat rain.
- 55:01Mandy: Yeah, there you go.
- 55:03Mandy: All you needed was like a little,
- 55:04Mandy: oh, yeah, smoked me a little sweet, a little salty.
- 55:07Mandy: Yeah. - The cleanup must have been
- 55:09Mandy: just awful.
- 55:10Chris: Yeah, apparently it took like months and months
- 55:12Chris: and months to clean that stuff.
- 55:14Chris: I couldn't even imagine.
- 55:15Nora: Yeah, it was not good.
- 55:16Chris: No. - Not good.
- 55:18Nora: Okay, next one I think is the sewer Olympics.
- 55:23Chris: Yeah, this happened in New Jersey in the 1920s.
- 55:29Chris: The local city engineers in Camden, New Jersey
- 55:33Chris: were so proud of the new infrastructure
- 55:36Chris: that they had built that they actually staged
- 55:38Chris: a quote unquote sewer Olympics in their drainage system
- 55:43Chris: to crow about how clean the water was.
- 55:46Chris: They had competitive drain cleaning and sewage swimming.
- 55:51Mandy: We just watched Marble League. I think we could get behind the competitive. That was Paris.
- 55:59Chris: I could absolutely get behind this and the only sad thing about it to me
- 56:04Nora: is that there's no footage of it because it was the 1920s. It does sound like the Paris Olympics though.
- 56:12Nora: Okay I think we have... I love that you're keeping track of it and doing like the numbers.
- 56:16Nora: Yeah, we have the Goldsboro, North Carolina incident.
- 56:22Chris: Oh yeah, there were-
- 56:23Nora: Oh wait, no, no, no, wait.
- 56:25Mandy: Wait, no, we have Willie D is next.
- 56:26Mandy: Oh, Willie D is mine.
- 56:28Mandy: So in college-
- 56:30Mandy: Sorry, Chris.
- 56:31Mandy: (laughing)
- 56:31Mandy: So in college, I ended up in a military history class
- 56:35Mandy: not knowing anything.
- 56:37Mandy: So it was me and one other girl
- 56:40Mandy: in a whole thing full of ROTC.
- 56:42Mandy: Yeah.
- 56:43Mandy: And that was it.
- 56:44Mandy: And my teacher, 'cause I'm very adorable,
- 56:48Mandy: would come in and tell me how lovely I smelled.
- 56:50Chris: Yeah, lovely.
- 56:51Chris: Nice.
- 56:54Mandy: Anyways.
- 56:55Mandy: (laughing)
- 56:56Mandy: I stopped wearing that perfume.
- 56:59Mandy: That perfume attracted a certain age range.
- 57:03Mandy: (laughing)
- 57:05Mandy: I'm not even kidding.
- 57:06Mandy: Oh no.
- 57:07Mandy: It was Tiffany's Truest.
- 57:09Mandy: Okay.
- 57:10Mandy: Anyways.
- 57:10Mandy: It's for old ladies.
- 57:12Mandy: Apparently.
- 57:14Mandy: So Willie D. (laughing)
- 57:18Mandy: So Willie D. is, yeah, it was a military boat ship.
- 57:29Mandy: And it is the only one that had the entire crew arrested.
- 57:33Chris: Oh. - Oh my God,
- 57:34Chris: what did they do?
- 57:35Mandy: So first of all, it's cursed.
- 57:37Mandy: They were leaving and they forgot to pull up the anchor
- 57:40Mandy: and almost took out the ship next to them.
- 57:42Chris: Oh God. - Nice.
- 57:43Mandy: Then while they were going,
- 57:45Mandy: so the president was on another ship, right,
- 57:48Mandy: going out to sea, so this is World War II,
- 57:51Mandy: going out to sea, and so it had an escort,
- 57:54Mandy: like a police escort on the ocean,
- 57:57Mandy: and so they were escorting it,
- 57:59Mandy: and so Willie D. was part of this,
- 58:01Mandy: and a depth charge rolled off of the thing
- 58:05Mandy: and hit the water, exploded it,
- 58:08Mandy: and almost capsized another boat,
- 58:11Mandy: and somebody ended up drowning.
- 58:13Chris: Oh my God.
- 58:14Chris: That's not good.
- 58:15Mandy: Because they didn't tie it down properly.
- 58:18Chris: Wow.
- 58:19Mandy: What happened was the biggie
- 58:21Mandy: is they were going to put on a show for FDR, right?
- 58:25Mandy: And they were gonna show him like,
- 58:27Mandy: look how fast we are with our torpedoes, yeah America.
- 58:31Mandy: And so they shot out two like dummy torpedoes
- 58:35Mandy: and then accidentally shot out a live one
- 58:39Mandy: and aimed it right at the ship that the president was on.
- 58:44Mandy: So-- - Oh my.
- 58:45Mandy: Yeah. - We're stars and partners.
- 58:46Mandy: What happened?
- 58:47Mandy: Okay, so rumor has it,
- 58:49Mandy: it's secret service pulled out their guns
- 58:53Mandy: to try and shoot at the torpedo
- 58:56Mandy: as it was coming to the ship.
- 58:58Mandy: Well, what else are they gonna do?
- 59:00Mandy: (both laughing)
- 59:01Mandy: It's not like they're gonna helicopter him out.
- 59:03Video: Exactly.
- 59:05Mandy: But FDR was like, "Well, we'll need,"
- 59:08Mandy: He heard that it was like a live torpedo
- 59:09Mandy: and coming towards them.
- 59:10Mandy: And he goes, "Wheel me to the edge so that I can see it."
- 59:15Mandy: So I don't know if that was bravery,
- 59:17Mandy: Hopswa being like, "I want to see my demise if it's coming.
- 59:21Mandy: "I wanna look at his eyes," or just fascination.
- 59:24Mandy: Luckily, they missed.
- 59:27Nora: That is very, I mean, we would have known about it
- 59:29Mandy: if they had. (laughing)
- 59:32Mandy: He did all these things, like literally,
- 59:33Mandy: it was day one, the anchor, day two,
- 59:37Mandy: to the depth charge day three shooting at the president
- 59:40Video: of the United States with a torpedo.
- 59:43Mandy: How'd they all get arrested?
- 59:44Mandy: So they did, they just pulled everyone to shore.
- 59:46Mandy: It was like, cool, everyone's arrested.
- 59:48Mandy: Because that was not cool.
- 59:49Mandy: Yeah, 'cause everyone, they thought at the time-
- 59:50Mandy: You can't shoot a live round at the president.
- 59:52Mandy: Yeah, at the time they thought it might have been
- 59:54Mandy: like a Nazi spy thing.
- 59:56Mandy: Instead it was just good old American laziness.
- 1:00:00Mandy: So they ended up arresting and sentencing one man
- 1:00:05Mandy: who was the one who was responsible
- 1:00:06Mandy: for the mistake happening.
- 1:00:08Mandy: And they did put him in prison,
- 1:00:11Mandy: but of course the president pardoned him.
- 1:00:13Mandy: Of course, they went on to have
- 1:00:15Mandy: horrible other things happen.
- 1:00:17Mandy: It was used in World War II for Japan,
- 1:00:20Mandy: like in the fight against Japan in the Pacific.
- 1:00:24Mandy: And four, they were like, "Oh, they did so well.
- 1:00:28Mandy: "They shot down five Japanese whatevers."
- 1:00:33Mandy: Yeah, they also shot down three American.
- 1:00:35Mandy: (laughing)
- 1:00:36Mandy: Oh my god.
- 1:00:38Mandy: Planes too.
- 1:00:39Mandy: Oh no.
- 1:00:39Mandy: So they're like, their score is five and three.
- 1:00:41Mandy: Oh, that's not good.
- 1:00:42Mandy: And then they were celebrating New Year's
- 1:00:45Mandy: and blew up the lawn of the Commodones.
- 1:00:49Mandy: (laughing)
- 1:00:51Nora: Finally got killed by Kamikaze.
- 1:00:54Chris: Yeah, fittingly it was destroyed by a Kamikaze attack
- 1:00:57Chris: right at the end of World War II.
- 1:00:58Nora: That seems about right.
- 1:00:59Nora: Yeah, right?
- 1:01:00Mandy: And I am like, yay, you know,
- 1:01:04Mandy: That was my little tidbit of history, military history.
- 1:01:10Mandy: I like it.
- 1:01:11Chris: Wow.
- 1:01:12Chris: Just showing the ineptitude of the US military.
- 1:01:16Mandy: What do you expect to happen?
- 1:01:17Chris: Has been in force for a long time.
- 1:01:20Mandy: Well, when you have most of the people,
- 1:01:21Mandy: once again, 18 year olds to like 25,
- 1:01:24Mandy: I'm like, what do you think is gonna happen?
- 1:01:25Nora: Kids gonna kill kids.
- 1:01:27Nora: That's why I don't like it.
- 1:01:28Nora: Okay, I think the next one is
- 1:01:31Nora: the Goldsboro, North Carolina event, Chris.
- 1:01:34Chris: Yeah, where did it go?
- 1:01:37Chris: Yeah, we probably should have put this in order.
- 1:01:40Chris: Yeah, this is another one from the military.
- 1:01:45Chris: Two hydrogen bombs were accidentally dropped
- 1:01:48Chris: over Goldsboro, North Carolina in 1961.
- 1:01:52Chris: A B-52 bomber was flying over the area
- 1:01:56Chris: and just started breaking apart in midair.
- 1:01:58Chris: Oh my God.
- 1:01:59Chris: The really scary part is that
- 1:02:02Chris: Three out of the four safety systems failed
- 1:02:05Chris: and a firing signal was sent to the core.
- 1:02:08Chris: The only reason that one of these bombs did not go off
- 1:02:11Chris: was a one, like a single low voltage switch.
- 1:02:15Chris: Basically like a light switch.
- 1:02:16Chris: Yeah, basically a light switch.
- 1:02:18Chris: And the scariest part, as had the bomb gone off,
- 1:02:22Chris: it would have been 260 times more powerful
- 1:02:25Chris: than the Hiroshima bomb.
- 1:02:26Mandy: Okay, but the part that you haven't said anything about
- 1:02:31Mandy: is the Air Force base that it came out of
- 1:02:33Mandy: has an amazing name.
- 1:02:34Mandy: I don't remember what it was.
- 1:02:35Mandy: Oh really?
- 1:02:35Mandy: I didn't know that.
- 1:02:36Mandy: Oh look it up.
- 1:02:36Mandy: It's something like,
- 1:02:37Mandy: it's like Hard Johnson or Dick Johnson.
- 1:02:39Video: It was real, it's real bad.
- 1:02:41Mandy: Okay, look it up real fast 'cause it's worth it.
- 1:02:43Mandy: Nice.
- 1:02:46Mandy: That's insane.
- 1:02:47Nora: Oh my gosh.
- 1:02:48Nora: I know.
- 1:02:49Nora: We could have been blowed up.
- 1:02:51Mandy: I mean, it did.
- 1:02:51Mandy: It exploded and it, I think, damaged like six houses nearby
- 1:02:55Mandy: that had people in it.
- 1:02:56Mandy: And it did, like, there were casualties.
- 1:02:59Mandy: Right.
- 1:03:01Mandy: Man, I should know this much.
- 1:03:02Mandy: I feel-
- 1:03:03Mandy: Yeah, come on, what the heck?
- 1:03:04Chris: Where's the bomb still intact?
- 1:03:05Mandy: Wait, wait, wait, does it tell you where it,
- 1:03:08Mandy: where you need to know the Air Force base that it was by?
- 1:03:11Chris: Let's see.
- 1:03:12Mandy: Seymour Johnson.
- 1:03:13Mandy: There you go, Seymour Johnson!
- 1:03:16Video: That is a good one.
- 1:03:17Mandy: (laughing)
- 1:03:17Mandy: 'Cause I'm, 'cause internally,
- 1:03:19Mandy: I have the same sense of humor as an eighth grade boy.
- 1:03:22Mandy: Seymour!
- 1:03:22Mandy: (laughing)
- 1:03:23Mandy: Some might say-
- 1:03:24Chris: Seymour Johnson!
- 1:03:25Chris: You could also call it Seymour Dick.
- 1:03:27Mandy: Yeah. - Yeah, exactly.
- 1:03:28Mandy: No, really?
- 1:03:29Mandy: All of the-
- 1:03:31Mandy: Ha, ha, I wish I'd gotten that joke.
- 1:03:34Mandy: Huh.
- 1:03:35Mandy: If I'd gotten that joke earlier,
- 1:03:37Mandy: I bet that would've been funny.
- 1:03:39Mandy: (laughing)
- 1:03:41Nora: All right, I have one more truly American event
- 1:03:44Nora: before we move on to our 250th celebration feast.
- 1:03:49Chris: Feast.
- 1:03:50Nora: The 2008 Balloon Boy Hoax.
- 1:03:53Chris: And this one hits close to home.
- 1:03:54Chris: This actually happened right where we are
- 1:03:56Chris: here in Fort Collins.
- 1:03:57Chris: Behind my house.
- 1:03:58Nora: I remember when it happened.
- 1:04:01Nora: This was also during the time of the swine flu.
- 1:04:04Nora: So I do have a picture from, this is like the 10-year memory, remembering it.
- 1:04:10Nora: But in October of 2009, there was a report of a six-year-old being trapped inside a giant
- 1:04:18Nora: helium balloon that was floating and it ended up going across state lines, or county lines,
- 1:04:23Nora: sorry.
- 1:04:25Nora: And it was like multiple mile chase where we thought that Falcon was in this balloon.
- 1:04:31Nora: And it turns out he was in the garage the whole time hiding because his parents wanted
- 1:04:37Nora: to do some kind of fancy thing.
- 1:04:39Nora: And I remember when the balloon came down, like, "He's not in the balloon.
- 1:04:41Nora: He's not in the balloon.
- 1:04:43Nora: Oh my God, what's going on?"
- 1:04:45Chris: Yeah, I mean, this event captured national attention.
- 1:04:48Nora: Yeah, it did.
- 1:04:48Nora: Yeah.
- 1:04:49Nora: They ended up moving to Florida because this is far more Florida man behavior.
- 1:04:54Nora: They ended up asking, like Fallon was on, one of the kids was on some talk show and
- 1:04:58Nora: they were asked about the event and the kid just like projectile vomited instead of answering
- 1:05:02Nora: the question about if it was a hoax or not.
- 1:05:04Mandy: Yeah, but no, but he said something first that was pretty like incriminating.
- 1:05:08Mandy: Like, "Oh, I did what my dad told me to," and then like, "Brrr."
- 1:05:11Mandy: Yeah, and then he yarked on TV.
- 1:05:14Nora: Basically they were required to pay like $36,000 back to, back for, to reimburse all of the
- 1:05:22Nora: emergency funds that they wasted their time.
- 1:05:25Nora: And Governor Jared Polis pardoned them in 2020.
- 1:05:29Nora: I think there's like a Netflix documentary on this.
- 1:05:31Nora: Called Trainwreck Balloon Boy.
- 1:05:32Chris: There is, and here's a shot of the rescue teams
- 1:05:37Chris: looking for the balloon.
- 1:05:39Chris: It was like, they had round the clock news coverage
- 1:05:42Chris: on this when it happened.
- 1:05:43Chris: And I was so, so embarrassed for this town.
- 1:05:47Video: Oh my God.
- 1:05:48Chris: Because long before we were really known
- 1:05:52Chris: Beer and for our high housing prices this it was this it was this they're like, oh you're from the balloon boy place
- 1:05:59Nora: I'm yeah, and also the when we threw red at
- 1:06:03Nora: Smash mouth. We're known for that. I do you like that one was a good one
- 1:06:08Nora: That's that only happened a few years ago though. It's 20. It was a while ago and
- 1:06:13Mandy: 2011 was it really? Yeah, it was before I was here. Mm-hmm. Yeah, it was a long time
- 1:06:17Mandy: It was pretty long ago, but the footage is excellent. If you haven't seen that yeah
- 1:06:21Nora: Yeah, go watch us throw bread at Steve from Smash Mouth.
- 1:06:26Nora: The band is like trying to play All Star
- 1:06:28Video: and he's like cursing at the crowd.
- 1:06:31Video: The bassist is like trying to take over the scene.
- 1:06:33Video: They're like trying to sing All Star
- 1:06:35Video: and he's like, "Fuck you guys!"
- 1:06:37Chris: "Oh, we've got the footage!"
- 1:06:38Chris: So this was 2015 when this happened.
- 1:06:41Chris: And yeah, so there's an annual event
- 1:06:43Chris: called Taste of Fort Collins.
- 1:06:45Chris: It's every summer, just down the street here.
- 1:06:47Chris: and they usually bring a couple of reasonably well-known
- 1:06:52Chris: headline acts to perform each of the days
- 1:06:55Chris: and Smash Mouth was the headliner on this day.
- 1:06:57Chris: And yeah, correct me if I'm wrong,
- 1:07:01Chris: but there was some booth that was handing out
- 1:07:03Chris: free bread samples to people.
- 1:07:04Chris: I think it was Panera.
- 1:07:05Chris: Might have been Panera, but anyway,
- 1:07:07Chris: yeah, they started throwing bread at the band.
- 1:07:11Chris: Steve.
- 1:07:12Chris: And Steve from Smash Mouth,
- 1:07:14Chris: who I believe passed away recently.
- 1:07:15Chris: He's dead, yeah.
- 1:07:18Chris: basically lost it and refused to perform
- 1:07:21Chris: and they basically stopped the set short
- 1:07:24Chris: because of people throwing bread at him.
- 1:07:26Nora: Yeah, and it was because he was slow
- 1:07:28Nora: to start the next song.
- 1:07:29Nora: Like they were trying to get him to start the next song.
- 1:07:32Nora: Well I mean, I don't wanna say like,
- 1:07:33Mandy: you're okay to throw things if things don't go your way.
- 1:07:36Mandy: It's just bread.
- 1:07:37Mandy: It is just bread.
- 1:07:38Mandy: It's not a tomato, it's not cabbages, it's just bread.
- 1:07:40Mandy: I mean, I would appreciate it more
- 1:07:42Mandy: if it was tomato or cabbages.
- 1:07:44Mandy: Like let's hold onto that bread, bread's amazing.
- 1:07:46Mandy: Let's not waste it.
- 1:07:47Mandy: I'd eat the bread before we kill it.
- 1:07:48Mandy: Here we go.
- 1:07:53Mandy: (laughing)
- 1:07:54Mandy: He's just like coming out of the ground.
- 1:07:56Mandy: No, he like yells like, "Come at me, whoever's story is."
- 1:07:59Mandy: Fuck you.
- 1:08:01Mandy: Security has to like hold him back.
- 1:08:05Mandy: (laughing)
- 1:08:06Chris: I'm sure this is the best money Peterson Toyota
- 1:08:08Video: has ever spent on a Toyota.
- 1:08:11Video: (laughing)
- 1:08:14Video: [LAUGHTER]
- 1:08:17Video: I love this.
- 1:08:20Video: Fuck you, man.
- 1:08:21Video: Yo.
- 1:08:23Video: [MUSIC - THE KING, "FUCK YOU"]
- 1:08:25Video: [LAUGHTER]
- 1:08:26Video: I'm going to beat the fucking shit out of you.
- 1:08:28Chris: I don't know that this qualifies as a stupid moment
- 1:08:31Chris: in American history, but it's certainly
- 1:08:32Chris: a stupid moment in Fort Collins.
- 1:08:34Video: I think it does.
- 1:08:35Nora: I feel like it does.
- 1:08:37Nora: Yeah.
- 1:08:37Nora: What about that time that we rioted after Earth, Wind,
- 1:08:39Nora: and Fire?
- 1:08:40Nora: [LAUGHTER]
- 1:08:41Nora: Wait, what?
- 1:08:42Video: There was that, yeah. - I don't know this one.
- 1:08:44Nora: We rioted after Earth, Wind, and Fire.
- 1:08:46Mandy: About what?
- 1:08:47Mandy: So yeah, nothing. - Earth, Wind, and Fire
- 1:08:48Mandy: were pretty amazing.
- 1:08:49Mandy: Nothing.
- 1:08:50Chris: Earth, Wind, and Fire, yeah,
- 1:08:51Chris: they performed at New West Fest,
- 1:08:53Chris: which was another music festival held here every year,
- 1:08:56Chris: no longer is, but they were headliners one year,
- 1:08:59Chris: and yeah, a riot broke out,
- 1:09:02Chris: and the cops ended up pepper spraying
- 1:09:04Chris: hundreds of people. - An overriot.
- 1:09:05Chris: Like nothing.
- 1:09:06Chris: Absolutely nothing. - I need to know what.
- 1:09:08Mandy: But you know, I'm always pretty pro-riot.
- 1:09:10Mandy: Yeah, I just love how they're going,
- 1:09:12Mandy: bum, bum, bum, bum, bum.
- 1:09:13Chris: Yeah, I love the band.
- 1:09:15Video: The bassist starts singing.
- 1:09:17Mandy: You can hear him start singing,
- 1:09:18Mandy: and it's so sad in the background.
- 1:09:19Chris: They just don't know what to do, it's amazing.
- 1:09:22Mandy: Yeah. (laughs)
- 1:09:23Video: The crowd is like, we don't need you, boy.
- 1:09:25Video: We know these lyrics.
- 1:09:28Video: We know the words.
- 1:09:31Nora: Excellent.
- 1:09:31Nora: So that's American history, according to Vibe Check.
- 1:09:36Nora: Done.
- 1:09:37Nora: That's American history.
- 1:09:38Nora: That's all you need to know to understand us.
- 1:09:40Nora: Meat rain, you need to know about balloon boy, molasses floods, that's about it.
- 1:09:46Chris: I mean what else is there really?
- 1:09:48Nora: Yeah it's really the most American of it.
- 1:09:50Mandy: I mean you know what when you first said like hey I have the idea for this,
- 1:09:54Mandy: I went this is gonna be real hard because everything in American history is slavery.
- 1:09:57Mandy: Like why do we do this slavery? Why do we do this slavery? Like there's no...
- 1:10:00Mandy: That was my first thought too.
- 1:10:02Mandy: Right? And so I'm like how am I supposed to find...
- 1:10:04Mandy: Like oh how about we talk about the African slave trade? Cool.
- 1:10:07Mandy: Yeah.
- 1:10:07Mandy: That's not cool.
- 1:10:08Mandy: There you go.
- 1:10:09Mandy: So yes, you need to know this, but also, you know, slavery.
- 1:10:13Chris: But thankfully, aside from slavery,
- 1:10:16Chris: there are plenty of stupid moments in American history
- 1:10:18Chris: that we can laugh at.
- 1:10:20Chris: Congratulations, America.
- 1:10:22Chris: 250 years of silliness.
- 1:10:25Mandy: You know, I think we are also going to join in
- 1:10:29Mandy: with sheer stupidity.
- 1:10:30Mandy: Silliness.
- 1:10:31Mandy: With the amount of food
- 1:10:32Mandy: we are going to put in our bodies.
- 1:10:34Mandy: Feast!
- 1:10:36Mandy: We are feasting.
- 1:10:38Video: And now it's time for tasty little treats with tasty little guys.
- 1:10:43Mandy: That was like, "I pick it out."
- 1:10:45Mandy: [laughing]
- 1:10:45Mandy: I do have OCD.
- 1:10:47Mandy: Sorry.
- 1:10:48Chris: [laughing]
- 1:10:49Chris: Wait, what happened?
- 1:10:50Mandy: So we've been staring at, let me, can you do the other camera?
- 1:10:53Mandy: The camera on the table, please?
- 1:10:55Mandy: So this has been in front of me this entire time.
- 1:10:57Mandy: Yeah.
- 1:10:57Mandy: I have OCD, so I have picked out the one I want to eat this entire time.
- 1:11:03Mandy: I have been staring at it, and she's like, "Just the one?"
- 1:11:05Mandy: And I was like, "Look, it's that one."
- 1:11:07Mandy: Like, that's how-
- 1:11:07Mandy: Perfect.
- 1:11:07Mandy: That's how we eat.
- 1:11:09Mandy: Like a bowl full of cereal,
- 1:11:10Mandy: it's color coded that it goes in my mouth.
- 1:11:12Chris: So set the stage for us, ladies.
- 1:11:15Chris: What do we have here and why do we have it?
- 1:11:17Nora: 'Merica.
- 1:11:17Nora: We have a real celebration of 250 years
- 1:11:20Nora: of American food here today.
- 1:11:22Nora: All crap.
- 1:11:23Nora: I went to Walmart because Walmart is America
- 1:11:26Nora: and I picked up $20 worth of American themed flavored food
- 1:11:32Nora: that are specialty flavors for the American birthday.
- 1:11:35Nora: Of crap.
- 1:11:37Nora: Like none of this is good for us.
- 1:11:38Nora: Good.
- 1:11:38Nora: We are gonna really-
- 1:11:39Nora: And I doubt any of it will be good.
- 1:11:41Nora: And then the last thing that we have
- 1:11:43Nora: is we are reprising the Dr. Pepper flavored sausage
- 1:11:48Nora: because I found the bratwurst and they were only $5.
- 1:11:52Nora: So-
- 1:11:52Chris: The bratwurst have gotta be better than the hot dogs.
- 1:11:54Mandy: No, I think they're gonna be worse
- 1:11:57Mandy: and hear me out because it's gonna be less processed.
- 1:12:00Mandy: So the flavor is gonna be-
- 1:12:03Mandy: More. - More.
- 1:12:04Nora: I'll tell you guys about the cooking process
- 1:12:06Nora: after we eat them. - Cool.
- 1:12:07Nora: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:12:07Nora: It was quite an interesting experience
- 1:12:09Nora: because I did have to cook raw Dr. Pepper flavored meat
- 1:12:12Nora: and that felt a little bit different.
- 1:12:14Nora: And also it was like on a stove top where our intern-
- 1:12:17Nora: Oh, no, no, no, spoiler!
- 1:12:17Nora: Oh, okay.
- 1:12:18Nora: No, but the intern last time cooked it in an air fryer.
- 1:12:21Nora: And so when it was in the air fryer, there just wasn't,
- 1:12:24Nora: I don't think we had the same level of issues
- 1:12:27Video: that I ended up with.
- 1:12:29Mandy: No, but it aerosolized the stench of the Dr. Pepper
- 1:12:32Mandy: and it was wretched when we got done.
- 1:12:34Chris: It was gnarly.
- 1:12:35Mandy: It was not good.
- 1:12:36Mandy: It was so bad.
- 1:12:37Mandy: I think that installed like a new rule
- 1:12:40Mandy: about like no stinky food in the studio.
- 1:12:41Mandy: Yeah.
- 1:12:42Nora: And I would like to do a tinned fish trial
- 1:12:45Nora: because I think all of us would hate it,
- 1:12:47Nora: but we can't do it in the studio
- 1:12:49Nora: because this is a windowless room.
- 1:12:51Nora: This is windowless.
- 1:12:52Nora: The room over there, windowless.
- 1:12:54Nora: We don't have a way to air it out.
- 1:12:56Nora: So like we have to be cautious, I should say.
- 1:12:59Nora: Yeah.
- 1:12:59Nora: So where are we starting?
- 1:13:00Nora: We have a shit ton of things to be quite frank.
- 1:13:04Nora: And I think we should start with what's been sitting
- 1:13:06Nora: on the table out.
- 1:13:07Nora: Because we have, so we have our AmeriCorn vanilla popcorn,
- 1:13:14Nora: but vanilla flavored caramel corn.
- 1:13:16Nora: So popcorn, popcornopolis, AmeriCorn.
- 1:13:20Mandy: I feel like most of the things we're gonna be eating
- 1:13:23Mandy: are questionable.
- 1:13:24Mandy: I think this is the only one that's gonna be really good.
- 1:13:25Chris: Yeah.
- 1:13:25Chris: And for anyone in other countries
- 1:13:28Chris: who doesn't have this level of buffoonery,
- 1:13:31Chris: the US government and the current administration
- 1:13:34Chris: has had a years long budget and plan
- 1:13:39Chris: to roll out things for America's 250th.
- 1:13:42Chris: So companies were incentivized to create patriotic versions
- 1:13:47Chris: of whatever it is that they make.
- 1:13:49Chris: And that's why we have the abominations you see before you.
- 1:13:53Mandy: Delicious abomination.
- 1:13:55Mandy: The caramel corn is amazing.
- 1:13:58Mandy: What do you think, Chris?
- 1:13:59Chris: Let's give it a shot.
- 1:14:00Chris: I'm gonna try the blue one first.
- 1:14:01Mandy: I'd like it too.
- 1:14:03Mandy: Ooh, did it stain my tongue?
- 1:14:05Mandy: No.
- 1:14:06Nora: If you ate like the whole bag.
- 1:14:09Chris: Okay, it doesn't, it tastes like caramel corn.
- 1:14:11Chris: It doesn't have a flavor really.
- 1:14:12Mandy: Like vanilla, yeah, vanilla caramel corn.
- 1:14:14Chris: Yeah, like the, it's just blue food coloring.
- 1:14:16Mandy: That's good.
- 1:14:17Mandy: That being said, the more I eat,
- 1:14:18Mandy: the more the fake vanilla isn't doing it for me.
- 1:14:21Mandy: Oh, okay.
- 1:14:22Nora: You prefer a regular caramel corn?
- 1:14:23Nora: I think so.
- 1:14:24Nora: Okay.
- 1:14:25Nora: Next we have the red, white and blue Christian Pulisic.
- 1:14:30Nora: Pulisic, probably.
- 1:14:31Nora: (paper crinkling)
- 1:14:34Nora: Holy shit.
- 1:14:34Nora: Holy shit.
- 1:14:35Nora: Holy shit.
- 1:14:37Nora: And these are,
- 1:14:39Nora: these are actually the soccer,
- 1:14:43Nora: football themed red, white, and blues.
- 1:14:46Mandy: So here they are, the little-
- 1:14:48Video: Red, white, and blue sour patch briefs.
- 1:14:49Mandy: I redid them so that I could make sure
- 1:14:50Mandy: I had red, white, and blue.
- 1:14:52Mandy: Yeah, yeah, so.
- 1:14:54Nora: (humming)
- 1:14:55Nora: I don't know, each of them are their normal flavors.
- 1:14:58Nora: Blue raspberry, lemon.
- 1:15:01Chris: Raspberry, okay, and red berry not great coming after the caramel corn. What the hell is red berry? It's red red
- 1:15:08Mandy: It's red berry. Oh my god actor lemon get it together
- 1:15:13Mandy: I'm sorry good lemon
- 1:15:14Mandy: hmm
- 1:15:16Mandy: Everybody knows red berry that's our
- 1:15:20Mandy: Especially after the caramel one, huh?
- 1:15:23Chris: But that's not bad
- 1:15:25Mandy: Here's my thing
- 1:15:27Chris: There's just a sour patch kid just colors died. Yeah, they're just they're just vaguely patriotic things. Yeah
- 1:15:35Nora: But you're gonna have to share this bag. That's where we leave. I
- 1:15:39Nora: Don't want to send you home with a full bag of our patch kids Chris
- 1:15:44Chris: Send me home with a full bag of sour patch kids, okay
- 1:15:49Chris: Next we're gonna eat some firecrackers you guys wait a second. Wait a second y'all before we get before we go further
- 1:15:55Chris: What we should we should give these give these ratings? Oh
- 1:16:02Nora: What's our out of what's our rating scale? Let's say five. Okay, so our patch kids five. Sorry patch kids five
- 1:16:08Chris: I agree. I'd say a four or five. I
- 1:16:11Chris: Kind of have a high bar for what I'd give a five Wow
- 1:16:15Nora: Nothing that is gonna work then I'd say the caramel corn is like a three and a half
- 1:16:18Chris: I referred if it was regular car. Yeah agreed. I'd say three maybe four
- 1:16:24Nora: Okay, so the neck so we're doing the we do our firecrackers. These are firecracker pop
- 1:16:30Nora: flavored cream
- 1:16:32Nora: So these are this is the only one I was actually excited to try
- 1:16:39Chris: Because Oreo is known for doing crazy flavors, so these are blue raspberry
- 1:16:47Nora: Lemon and cherry flavored cream so along the same flavors as our sour patch kids
- 1:16:52Chris: Wait, so they're all in one. It's not separated. Yeah, I don't like that cuz that's how America goes. I don't like that
- 1:17:00Mandy: You know, I don't like Oreos. I
- 1:17:03Mandy: don't
- 1:17:04Chris: Look at the but you get the red white and blue in in the cream though, which is kind of fun
- 1:17:09Mandy: Okay, I like this better than normal Oreos
- 1:17:12Mandy: It's like cake frosting. I know I love cake frosting. That's the only thing I like about. Oh my god, you know what?
- 1:17:17Mandy: You're gonna be a found an Oreo. I like
- 1:17:19Mandy: I don't like Oreos. I
- 1:17:22Nora: These ones might very well turn your tongue blue.
- 1:17:24Chris: And of course it's the limited ones
- 1:17:27Chris: that are only around for a couple of weeks.
- 1:17:29Nora: Oh yeah, of course.
- 1:17:31Nora: Feel like it would be good if there was
- 1:17:32Nora: like a raspberry lemon without the cherry.
- 1:17:35Nora: Like I don't think it needs a cherry.
- 1:17:37Nora: I'm a raspberry lemon kind of girl.
- 1:17:38Nora: Love a raspberry lemon flavor.
- 1:17:40Nora: I don't think it needs a cherry.
- 1:17:42Nora: Tongue check.
- 1:17:43Nora: (squeals)
- 1:17:44Nora: Ooh.
- 1:17:46Mandy: (laughing)
- 1:17:49Mandy: Okay, 'cause I'm five.
- 1:17:50Mandy: What do you think, Chris?
- 1:17:51Chris: We're all five.
- 1:17:52Chris: I like it, I would, you know what, I would give this,
- 1:17:54Chris: I'd give this a five.
- 1:17:56Chris: Oh.
- 1:17:57Nora: Yeah.
- 1:17:58Nora: It's like a two and a half for me.
- 1:17:59Nora: I really enjoy it.
- 1:18:00Chris: I prefer any other flavor of Oreo.
- 1:18:01Chris: It's very enjoyable.
- 1:18:01Chris: I don't really go for the Oreo gimmick flavors.
- 1:18:06Chris: I like the chocolate cream and that's about it.
- 1:18:08Chris: But all the, like the lemon stuff and all the other ones,
- 1:18:11Chris: not for me.
- 1:18:12Chris: This is really good.
- 1:18:14Mandy: I would give it a four.
- 1:18:16Mandy: I'm enjoying it, which is surprising for me
- 1:18:18Mandy: 'cause I'm not a sweets girl.
- 1:18:19Mandy: But Sour Patch Kids.
- 1:18:21Mandy: If I can eat plastic, I'm happy.
- 1:18:23Nora: Yeah.
- 1:18:24Chris: (laughing)
- 1:18:25Nora: I do like the feeling of eating plastic as well.
- 1:18:27Nora: Okay.
- 1:18:28Chris: Kids don't eat plastic.
- 1:18:29Nora: What are we thinking?
- 1:18:30Nora: Should we try our sweets next
- 1:18:32Nora: or should we switch to savor?
- 1:18:33Nora: We have two more sweets.
- 1:18:34Nora: Let's do sweets.
- 1:18:35Chris: Okay.
- 1:18:35Chris: Let's get the sweets out of the way.
- 1:18:36Nora: I have more.
- 1:18:37Nora: We're eating dessert first.
- 1:18:39Chris: Oh my God, she has more.
- 1:18:41Nora: (laughing)
- 1:18:42Nora: So I found, these are all 250 additions as well.
- 1:18:48Nora: (laughing)
- 1:18:50Nora: So we have birthday cake curios and root beer
- 1:18:53Nora: float flavored cinnamon toast crunch.
- 1:18:56Nora: I held it against my boob and it squeaked the way it did.
- 1:18:59Video: (laughing)
- 1:19:01Nora: So Mandy cannot try these because she's not oats.
- 1:19:05Nora: But I want to, I love oats.
- 1:19:07Nora: Do you want to smell them?
- 1:19:08Nora: No, it'll just make it hurt more.
- 1:19:11Nora: It smells like...
- 1:19:12Chris: All right, which one are we trying first?
- 1:19:14Nora: The Oreos, no, sorry, Cheerios.
- 1:19:17Chris: Okay.
- 1:19:18Nora: They smell kind of cakey.
- 1:19:21Mandy: Well you know what, I am ranking the Cheerios zero
- 1:19:23Mandy: because I can't eat them.
- 1:19:25Chris: That's fair.
- 1:19:27Mandy: Well.
- 1:19:27Nora: They're like a sweet Cheerio.
- 1:19:31Nora: Well.
- 1:19:34Chris: I don't get birthday cake off of it.
- 1:19:37Chris: I get, I just get fake sugar off of it.
- 1:19:41Nora: Yeah, they're like sweet Cheerios.
- 1:19:43Nora: I mean.
- 1:19:43Nora: They smelled more cakey when I like opened the bag.
- 1:19:46Chris: Honestly, if you put these and Honey Nut Cheerios
- 1:19:51Chris: in a blind taste test, I couldn't tell one way or the other
- 1:19:54Chris: which one was which.
- 1:19:55Nora: Really?
- 1:19:55Nora: I mean, the only thing that's different
- 1:19:56Nora: is just they have flecks on them to celebrate.
- 1:19:59Nora: They have like these guys on them.
- 1:20:00Chris: Yeah, they're Honey Nut Cheerios with flecks on them.
- 1:20:02Nora: But they're not honey.
- 1:20:04Nora: They're just sugar, so they're not as good for you.
- 1:20:06Chris: Yeah, but they taste like the Honey Nut one.
- 1:20:07Nora: They do.
- 1:20:08Nora: I think I probably will eat them.
- 1:20:10Nora: Oh crap, I just swallowed one.
- 1:20:10Chris: Okay, so I would give them a two or a three,
- 1:20:15Chris: Only because it's false advertising.
- 1:20:17Nora: Yeah.
- 1:20:18Video: I like cinnamon twist crunch.
- 1:20:21Nora: They do smell like cake, but they don''t taste like cake.
- 1:20:24Nora: All right.
- 1:20:25Nora: Root beer floats. - Oh my God.
- 1:20:26Nora: Oh my God.
- 1:20:26Nora: (laughing)
- 1:20:27Video: Oh my God!
- 1:20:29Video: (laughing)
- 1:20:29Video: Oh!
- 1:20:30Video: No, no!
- 1:20:31Video: No, no!
- 1:20:32Video: Oh!
- 1:20:33Video: No, no, no!
- 1:20:34Video: No!
- 1:20:35Video: I don't like that at all.
- 1:20:36Video: Oh my God, make it stop!
- 1:20:37Video: Oh, that's bad.
- 1:20:39Video: (gagging)
- 1:20:40Video: That's real weird.
- 1:20:41Video: I don't like that at all.
- 1:20:42Video: (gagging)
- 1:20:45Video: It does taste like Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
- 1:20:47Video: It's both, it's Cinnamon Toast Crunch
- 1:20:49Video: and it's a root beer barrel.
- 1:20:51Chris: Oh my God, that's so wrong.
- 1:20:53Chris: That is disgusting.
- 1:20:54Chris: Okay, maybe milk would cut it somewhat.
- 1:20:58Chris: That's kind of what I was thinking.
- 1:20:59Video: I feel like this might,
- 1:21:01Mandy: but I don't like root beer floats.
- 1:21:03Mandy: Okay.
- 1:21:03Mandy: They're too sweet.
- 1:21:04Mandy: I don't do dairy even fake dairy. So my cereal is always eaten dry
- 1:21:12Chris: I'm not taking another bite. Nope. That's um, I'm willing to try it with milk, but dry no bueno
- 1:21:20Mandy: Can I make the husband come in and taste this and off-camera? That's up to you. That's that's between you and your husband
- 1:21:27Mandy: Might need to try. Oh my god. I want to see him try this just cuz I want him to be grossed out
- 1:21:31Mandy: That was, I don't want to go down a load.
- 1:21:35Mandy: Why is it root beer flavored cereal?
- 1:21:36Mandy: It's so wrong, 'cause America, root beer, America.
- 1:21:39Chris: I don't understand how root beer is like supposed to be
- 1:21:41Mandy: inherently American. - Wait, but it is.
- 1:21:43Mandy: But it is, but it is, because like Sassafras,
- 1:21:45Mandy: the history, oh my God, wait, wait, my husband's in.
- 1:21:48Mandy: We have Sassafras. - Please try it.
- 1:21:49Mandy: I mean, yeah, the Sassafras root is coming from.
- 1:21:52Mandy: Oh, you guys just saw his hand.
- 1:21:54Mandy: He's no longer a stranger to you.
- 1:21:56Chris: Yeah, we can identify him by his hand.
- 1:21:59Mandy: The intern shrugs.
- 1:22:00Mandy: Oh, there's the hand.
- 1:22:03Mandy: He exists.
- 1:22:04Mandy: I didn't make him up.
- 1:22:05Mandy: And?
- 1:22:06Mandy: No, yes, okay.
- 1:22:07Mandy: Goodbye.
- 1:22:08Mandy: (laughing)
- 1:22:10Mandy: I was hoping for more, and of course I did not get more.
- 1:22:13Mandy: It gets worse.
- 1:22:14Video: (laughing)
- 1:22:15Mandy: He said it gets worse.
- 1:22:17Mandy: It does, it does.
- 1:22:19Chris: I'm not sure what's worse, the taste or the aftertaste?
- 1:22:22Mandy: Y'all, I'm going in for Oreo number two.
- 1:22:25Chris: It tastes very root beer-y,
- 1:22:27Nora: which is not good for a cereal.
- 1:22:29Chris: No, it's really not.
- 1:22:30Nora: Like I don't, it tastes like cinnamon toast crunch,
- 1:22:32Nora: but then it also tastes like root beer.
- 1:22:33Chris: Yeah, and it's like kind of,
- 1:22:35Chris: it's kind of like a one, two punch.
- 1:22:37Chris: You like eat it and you're like,
- 1:22:38Chris: oh, cinnamon toast crunch.
- 1:22:39Chris: And then, oh God, what is that?
- 1:22:41Nora: Exactly, which is why Mandy's reaction was like that.
- 1:22:44Nora: That's why it was like,
- 1:22:45Nora: and that's why my reaction was that way too,
- 1:22:46Nora: because it is a one, two punch.
- 1:22:48Nora: First you taste the cinnamon toast crunch,
- 1:22:49Nora: and then again. - You're like,
- 1:22:50Nora: I like cinnamon toast crunch, that's fun.
- 1:22:52Nora: Root beer, root beer.
- 1:22:54Nora: Okay, I want somebody to try it with milk
- 1:22:56Nora: and then get back to me.
- 1:22:57Chris: I'll try it with milk.
- 1:22:58Nora: Yeah. - Okay.
- 1:22:59Nora: The box is going home with you.
- 1:23:00Nora: The family size box is going home with you.
- 1:23:02Chris: Perfect.
- 1:23:03Nora: So, okay.
- 1:23:04Nora: Next we have four savories.
- 1:23:07Nora: Do you wanna try the, let's do our Cheez-Its first.
- 1:23:10Chris: Okay, so these are the, hold on, let me do the graphic.
- 1:23:14Chris: Chili, chili, got cheese, dog, cheese.
- 1:23:19Nora: And these are for World Cup?
- 1:23:22Nora: Yeah, so-- - It's still America.
- 1:23:23Chris: Yeah, so it's weird.
- 1:23:24Chris: There's, you know, not only is it America 250,
- 1:23:28Chris: which the rest of the world doesn't care about,
- 1:23:29Chris: but it's, yeah, the World Cup's going on right now,
- 1:23:31Chris: so that's why some of this stuff exists.
- 1:23:33Nora: Yeah, it's like why half of it exists.
- 1:23:35Nora: So there's a distinct smell when you open the box.
- 1:23:39Chris: I do not like the smell.
- 1:23:41Mandy: I'm not eating this again, out food allergies.
- 1:23:45Mandy: It smells like Taco Bell.
- 1:23:48Mandy: It smells like Taco Bell!
- 1:23:51Mandy: (laughing)
- 1:23:52Chris: It does kinda, yeah.
- 1:23:54Nora: It does smell a little bit like cheesy chili.
- 1:23:57Mandy: Yeah, talk about chili cheese burrito, baby.
- 1:24:00Nora: Oh no, I kind of like it.
- 1:24:03Nora: (laughing)
- 1:24:04Nora: No, I love that.
- 1:24:07Chris: I, okay, no.
- 1:24:09Chris: Wait, wait. - Nope.
- 1:24:10Nora: Weird tomato flavor at the end.
- 1:24:13Chris: No. - Weird tomato flavor
- 1:24:14Nora: at the end.
- 1:24:15Chris: No, just no.
- 1:24:17Mandy: Maybe, maybe if you add some milk, it'll be better.
- 1:24:22Mandy: (laughing)
- 1:24:23Chris: Yeah, I just got to put my Cheez-Its in some milk.
- 1:24:25Chris: I was drinking my water.
- 1:24:27Video: (laughing)
- 1:24:29Video: No spit teeth on the camera.
- 1:24:32Nora: I've done it before, I'll do it again.
- 1:24:34Chris: That's a true story.
- 1:24:35Nora: Okay, I'll try this again.
- 1:24:38Nora: 'Cause I think I had some sweetness left over in my mouth
- 1:24:42Mandy: from the root beer.
- 1:24:43Mandy: Oh God.
- 1:24:44Chris: Oh God, that's gross.
- 1:24:45Mandy: You should have done an Oreo palate cleanser.
- 1:24:47Chris: You should have.
- 1:24:50Mandy: No.
- 1:24:50Mandy: It got worse.
- 1:24:51Mandy: It's not good.
- 1:24:52Mandy: Once again, I vote for let me know,
- 1:24:54Mandy: try it in a bowl of milk and let me know how it goes.
- 1:24:57Chris: I rate this one a one, it's just awful.
- 1:24:59Mandy: Like a 0.5 for me.
- 1:25:01Mandy: Ooh, did we rate Cinnamon Toast Crunch?
- 1:25:02Mandy: Were we here?
- 1:25:03Nora: That was a zero.
- 1:25:05Chris: (laughing)
- 1:25:05Chris: Cinnamon Toast Crunch is,
- 1:25:07Chris: I mean, I prefer it to the Cheez-Its.
- 1:25:10Chris: Mm, really?
- 1:25:11Chris: Yeah, I'd rather have the Cinnamon Toast Crunch
- 1:25:13Chris: than the Cheez-Its.
- 1:25:14Mandy: Fascinating.
- 1:25:15Chris: I'd rather have the Cheez-Its.
- 1:25:15Chris: So I'd give the Cinnamon Toast Crunch like a two, maybe.
- 1:25:18Chris: It's not inedible, it's just weird.
- 1:25:20Mandy: You know, Charles is really into Taco Bell.
- 1:25:25Mandy: I would like to know what they think about.
- 1:25:27Nora: We're gonna have to save these for next week.
- 1:25:30Nora: So we're gonna keep these here for next week.
- 1:25:32Mandy: I think nobody is sad about that.
- 1:25:35Mandy: (laughing)
- 1:25:36Mandy: Oh no, I don't get to take it home.
- 1:25:37Nora: Charles has to taste these.
- 1:25:39Chris: Darn it.
- 1:25:40Chris: Darn it to heck.
- 1:25:41Nora: (laughing)
- 1:25:42Nora: All right, we have nuts and then we have our Dr. Pepper.
- 1:25:47Nora: So we'll finish with the Dr. Pepper.
- 1:25:48Nora: I think it's almost done.
- 1:25:52Nora: So, nuts, I found these plants.
- 1:25:55Nora: enters 250th limited edition ranch.
- 1:26:00Nora: That's very American.
- 1:26:03Nora: And sweet cayenne barbecue.
- 1:26:05Nora: So let's try the ranch first.
- 1:26:08Mandy: Okay, so these just say spices on them,
- 1:26:13Mandy: which I have an EpiPen on me.
- 1:26:17Chris: Wait, which one is the ranch?
- 1:26:19Nora: The lighter one, the non pinkish one.
- 1:26:24Chris: was really I'm not a peanut fan though. Okay the ranch one tastes like
- 1:26:31Chris: peanuts with Cool Ranch Dorito dust on them. Yes and I hate Doritos. And I don't like that.
- 1:26:35Chris: I hate Doritos. I don't like peanuts. I don't like peanuts either. I'm not a big fan of peanuts either.
- 1:26:39Mandy: Yeah. You know who does like peanuts? Diabetes boy in the other room. Well guess
- 1:26:43Nora: who's taking these home. Yeah the intern. That's his payment. Sweet Cayenne barbecue. She's not
- 1:26:52Nora: trying these okay peppers in them
- 1:26:57Chris: I give the ranch like a two by the way I have one to try another nut we're gonna
- 1:27:06Nora: have to decontaminate this if anybody's allergic to peanuts in this office oh I
- 1:27:13Chris: don't hate the barbecue ones but they're not barbecue the ranch and sweet cayenne
- 1:27:19Nora: barbecues. Okay no I'm correct. The ranch drove probably like a two. These ones
- 1:27:27Nora: they taste like the Lay's barbecue chips. Oh my god. And a delivery! I do not find you attractive anymore.
- 1:27:36Mandy: That was a good run while it lasted. Nice 26, almost 27 years. Thank you. But I hate you for this. I really really do.
- 1:27:45Chris: Didn't you volunteer him for it? I did
- 1:27:49Nora: You brought it for this purpose the intern but I didn't an intern. This is what we were just delivered
- 1:27:54Nora: Oh, there's a smell. It's just hit me. It's it's there. Okay, so
- 1:27:59Chris: These are really a nightmare to cut me a close-up in the close-up. I'm glad we stay here
- 1:28:05Nora: Oh, these were not fun to cook
- 1:28:09Nora: They splatter everywhere like regular bratwurst, but they're sticky and so they splatter stickiness all over
- 1:28:17Nora: Everything and then so the way you're supposed to cook them is you're supposed to like get them caramelly on both sides
- 1:28:22Nora: You're supposed to put a half a cup of water in yeah
- 1:28:24Nora: I let him boil a little bit, and then you take the lid off boiling and it's just dr. Pepper
- 1:28:39Mandy: here for the first round, right?
- 1:28:41Mandy: We are sitting there dying.
- 1:28:43Mandy: Poor Charles is almost throwing up in the trash can.
- 1:28:47Mandy: We are nobody-
- 1:28:48Nora: We didn't have a trash can, which was a big problem.
- 1:28:50Mandy: I do not swallow, right?
- 1:28:52Mandy: I spit.
- 1:28:53Mandy: (laughing)
- 1:28:54Chris: Flip that.
- 1:28:54Nora: And I'm sitting over here.
- 1:28:56Mandy: And she's like, "This is actually pretty good."
- 1:28:59Mandy: And I think-- - "Eat two."
- 1:29:01Mandy: I think I was just really hungry.
- 1:29:02Mandy: You were. - Lies.
- 1:29:03Mandy: No, the husband ate one too.
- 1:29:05Mandy: And his opinion was once you smear ketchup on it,
- 1:29:08Mandy: it's all the same.
- 1:29:09Mandy: Which is what I agreed, but-
- 1:29:11Nora: I didn't make it that far to do that.
- 1:29:13Chris: I didn't, it was terrible.
- 1:29:14Chris: It was terrible no matter what.
- 1:29:16Nora: I'm more concerned about this
- 1:29:17Nora: than I was about the smoked sausage.
- 1:29:18Nora: I told you, I told you, I think it's gonna taste worse.
- 1:29:20Nora: I was excited about the bratwurst,
- 1:29:21Mandy: I thought maybe these would be better.
- 1:29:23Mandy: I looked at the package and I was really
- 1:29:24Mandy: crossing my fingers hoping I was allergic
- 1:29:26Mandy: to something in the cream.
- 1:29:27Chris: So are we trying these Sons condiments first
- 1:29:32Chris: and then trying the condiments?
- 1:29:33Mandy: I don't know, I don't think I'll ever make it to condiment.
- 1:29:36Nora: Try Sons condiment first.
- 1:29:38Nora: Cheers. I also don't know what to do with the drippings from these like I throw it
- 1:29:43Nora: out toxic waste and I can't put it down. I don't want to put it down the drain.
- 1:29:48Mandy: No okay I'm doing this alone. One, two, three, go guys.
- 1:29:54Mandy: It's not as bad. It's not as bad. It's not as bad. It's different. It's not as bad.
- 1:30:03Mandy: Mm-mm.
- 1:30:04Nora: That's crazy work.
- 1:30:05Nora: I think it was the smoke.
- 1:30:08Nora: I think it was the smoked flavor that they added
- 1:30:10Nora: was a sweet smoke flavor.
- 1:30:12Nora: That is crazy bananas.
- 1:30:13Nora: Right?
- 1:30:15Mandy: I'm gonna go for a second bite.
- 1:30:16Mandy: Like this is like.
- 1:30:17Mandy: And then I'm gonna stop.
- 1:30:18Mandy: Edible.
- 1:30:19Chris: I think the difference here is that
- 1:30:21Chris: the Dr. Pepper flavor is not,
- 1:30:23Chris: it's just, it's faint.
- 1:30:25Chris: It's not overpowering.
- 1:30:26Mandy: It cooked off.
- 1:30:28Chris: Yeah.
- 1:30:28Mandy: Okay, I'm doing condiments.
- 1:30:29Mandy: Okay.
- 1:30:31Nora: I almost brought some sauerkraut with these too.
- 1:30:33Mandy: I would have loved a little raw onion.
- 1:30:36Mandy: I know the actor hates that.
- 1:30:38Chris: Gross.
- 1:30:40Mandy: Okay.
- 1:30:44Chris: Also, can I say that trying to run the show
- 1:30:46Chris: and push buttons while juggling this much food
- 1:30:48Chris: is a real pain in the ass?
- 1:30:50Video: Mm-mm, mm-mm, mm-mm.
- 1:30:51Video: I bet.
- 1:30:51Video: Mm-mm, mm-mm.
- 1:30:52Video: Uh-oh, uh-oh.
- 1:30:53Video: Mm-mm, mm-mm.
- 1:31:04Video: (laughing)
- 1:31:07Nora: We just had the exact opposite reaction.
- 1:31:10Nora: The stone ground mustard with it, really good.
- 1:31:13Mandy: So I have Arfid.
- 1:31:16Mandy: It's not self diagnosed, it is in my medical chart.
- 1:31:21Mandy: It hit it.
- 1:31:23Chris: Was that the ketchup or the mustard, Mandy?
- 1:31:25Video: Um, I'm shaking.
- 1:31:27Video: (laughing)
- 1:31:28Video: We got more Arfid.
- 1:31:29Video: We did it, it's the first one that's done it.
- 1:31:31Video: (laughing)
- 1:31:34Mandy: It was the meat, it was the re, I'm about to cry.
- 1:31:39Mandy: (laughing)
- 1:31:40Mandy: Like guys, this is not, like.
- 1:31:42Mandy: There we go, I'm hiding it.
- 1:31:43Mandy: Thanks, I appreciate it.
- 1:31:45Mandy: I don't do well, I don't do well with reheated meat.
- 1:31:48Mandy: Oh, it was the reheated meat.
- 1:31:50Mandy: Yeah, and it got reheated meat tasting.
- 1:31:54Chris: I gotcha.
- 1:31:55Mandy: Which is so weird, 'cause I would've thought
- 1:31:56Mandy: that reaction would've been to the Dr Pepper.
- 1:31:59Mandy: (laughing)
- 1:32:00Mandy: (laughing)
- 1:32:03Nora: I'm not surprised that you, the reheated meat gotcha.
- 1:32:06Nora: This is a reheated meaty.
- 1:32:08Nora: Yeah, that, that, that, that, that, that, that.
- 1:32:11Nora: Just don't, don't, don't pay attention.
- 1:32:12Nora: Yeah, hey, you know what, third Oreo palette cleanser.
- 1:32:16Nora: Here we go.
- 1:32:17Nora: What, oh, can't hear you.
- 1:32:21Nora: You're muted.
- 1:32:21Chris: I agree, I like the, with the mustard.
- 1:32:26Chris: I would rank this a four.
- 1:32:28Chris: Yeah.
- 1:32:29Chris: This is solid.
- 1:32:31Nora: I will never cook them again.
- 1:32:32Chris: No. - I mean, I wouldn't.
- 1:32:33Nora: Would you air fry them?
- 1:32:34Nora: Maybe.
- 1:32:36Nora: Contained?
- 1:32:37Nora: Yeah, if they're contained, then probably,
- 1:32:39Nora: but these are a nightmare to cook.
- 1:32:41Chris: So basically, you just need a cooking method
- 1:32:42Chris: where the Dr. Pepper off-gases
- 1:32:44Chris: to the point where it's not like
- 1:32:47Video: floating around your house.
- 1:32:49Video: (laughing)
- 1:32:54Video: Literally, I lifted the lid and the steam
- 1:32:56Video: was just like Dr. Pepper's steam in my face.
- 1:32:59Video: (laughing)
- 1:33:00Video: Pretty sure my hair smells like it.
- 1:33:02Video: No!
- 1:33:03Video: (laughing)
- 1:33:05Video: No, you're good.
- 1:33:06Video: (laughing)
- 1:33:11Video: It could have happened.
- 1:33:13Video: (laughing)
- 1:33:15Mandy: You know what?
- 1:33:16Mandy: I've never had so many Oreos in my life.
- 1:33:20Mandy: I'm not an Oreo girlie.
- 1:33:23Chris: You're welcome, America.
- 1:33:24Mandy: That goes home with you.
- 1:33:26Mandy: (laughing)
- 1:33:28Mandy: friend I have an entire loaf of bread like oh you're like hey what are you
- 1:33:31Mandy: having for dinner night bread breakfast tomorrow you know what I'm having?
- 1:33:36Nora: It might not last two meals. We'll see. It's good bread. We'll see.
- 1:33:43Nora: You'll have to you'll have to report back. You think I'm gonna enter that
- 1:33:47Nora: bread in the fair this year I haven't had the chance to bake for the county
- 1:33:50Nora: fair before cuz I was judging the 4-H'ers so. I kind of want us all to
- 1:33:55Mandy: enter baked goods in the county fair just for funsies. We should and for bragging rights. I mean
- 1:34:01Chris: we know who will win. I mean I would enter my baked goods into the great american state fair
- 1:34:06Chris: because I feel like that's what they deserve. Yeah that's way to do it. Eat this America.
- 1:34:12Video: Here's the secret just use a Pillsbury pie crust and make a pie that way. Look my best friend
- 1:34:17Nora: swears by that. It is the best pie crust. Yeah. It is the best pie crust you just can't enter it in
- 1:34:21Nora: in the county fair.
- 1:34:22Nora: It literally like the Pillsbury pie crust
- 1:34:25Nora: won the Iowa State Fair pie competition a few years ago
- 1:34:28Nora: and then was disqualified because they found out
- 1:34:30Nora: she used the Pillsbury crust.
- 1:34:32Video: How did they find that out?
- 1:34:33Video: I don't know, somebody snitched.
- 1:34:36Video: Yeah.
- 1:34:36Video: Snitching on the pie.
- 1:34:37Video: God, Martha.
- 1:34:38Video: That's a dark behavior.
- 1:34:39Video: Way to go, Martha.
- 1:34:40Video: Yeah.
- 1:34:40Video: No, Barbara.
- 1:34:41Video: Barbara.
- 1:34:42Video: We know it was Barbara.
- 1:34:43Video: Barbara.
- 1:34:45Video: We know it was Barbara because it came to both of us
- 1:34:47Video: at the same time.
- 1:34:48Video: It was Barbara.
- 1:34:50Nora: Okay, we have one more to try.
- 1:34:51Nora: Oh, we do?
- 1:34:52Nora: We have a juice.
- 1:34:53Nora: You're not gonna like the juice.
- 1:34:54Mandy: No, so I think it looks like there might be grape in it.
- 1:34:57Mandy: Oh, there is grape in it.
- 1:34:59Mandy: And if you've ever had a colonoscopy.
- 1:35:01Mandy: (laughing)
- 1:35:02Mandy: Oh, does it taste like grape juice?
- 1:35:03Mandy: It tastes like grape juice.
- 1:35:05Mandy: Really?
- 1:35:06Nora: Like hand-squeezed grape juice?
- 1:35:09Mandy: Yes, yes, exactly.
- 1:35:10Mandy: What flavor?
- 1:35:11Mandy: It's grape flavored.
- 1:35:11Mandy: Okay.
- 1:35:12Mandy: The stuff, the prep you have to drink.
- 1:35:13Mandy: They taste different.
- 1:35:15Nora: This is blueberry.
- 1:35:17Nora: So there was red, white, and blue.
- 1:35:18Nora: Wait, wait, wait, let's go, right.
- 1:35:21Nora: was red, white, and blue. I think there was a strawberry, white grape, and blueberry.
- 1:35:26Nora: This one sounded the most- Sorry. Sorry, you guys. We're burping in our microphones at the same time.
- 1:35:34Nora: Gross. Oh, but together it is. We're just like, we're the same wavelength right here. Like,
- 1:35:39Chris: we're doing really good. So, Charles Hoon. It's okay. You haven't had that kind of a
- 1:35:45Chris: connection with them. It's us. It's us. I'll just replace your audio so you can burp.
- 1:35:49Chris: (laughing)
- 1:35:52Video: Okay, cheers. - Cheers.
- 1:35:59Nora: It's fine.
- 1:36:01Nora: It'd be great with a ginger ale.
- 1:36:06Chris: I don't know how I feel about this.
- 1:36:09Mandy: A little medicinal.
- 1:36:11Mandy: It's nice to begin with.
- 1:36:13Mandy: Good with ginger ale.
- 1:36:14Mandy: It's good to begin with,
- 1:36:15Mandy: the end is medicinal.
- 1:36:17Chris: It tastes like cough syrup to me.
- 1:36:18Mandy: Yeah. - Medicinal.
- 1:36:20Mandy: It's like a drink mixer.
- 1:36:21Mandy: Like it would make a really good mocktail.
- 1:36:24Mandy: Or.
- 1:36:25Mandy: Or cocktail.
- 1:36:25Mandy: If somebody didn't take a lot of medicine as a kid.
- 1:36:28Nora: Well, I mean, yeah.
- 1:36:30Nora: You could add some gin to this.
- 1:36:32Nora: That would be really good.
- 1:36:33Video: What?
- 1:36:34Nora: Okay.
- 1:36:34Nora: Gin and some ginger ale.
- 1:36:36Nora: I think that would make this really good.
- 1:36:38Nora: And I'm not really a gin person.
- 1:36:40Nora: So I think this would be great with gin.
- 1:36:42Mandy: Alcohol breaks me into little red bumps all over my body.
- 1:36:45Video: Oh, fuck yeah, baby.
- 1:36:47Video: (laughing)
- 1:36:52Nora: Disturbing.
- 1:36:54Nora: I'm gonna drink the rest of this for sure.
- 1:36:55Nora: And I think that's the only thing today
- 1:36:57Nora: that I'm going to finish.
- 1:36:58Mandy: Well, I really hope everyone has enjoyed
- 1:37:01Mandy: our gluttonous, gluttonous.
- 1:37:04Mandy: Ongoing. - Drinks and treats.
- 1:37:05Mandy: Ongoing.
- 1:37:05Nora: For the 250th birthday.
- 1:37:09Nora: Happy birthday.
- 1:37:09Mandy: Oh wait, so do we have a winner?
- 1:37:11Mandy: Who's been keeping track?
- 1:37:12Mandy: Because I feel like these are the winners.
- 1:37:14Chris: We have not been keeping track.
- 1:37:15Chris: I think we all liked the Oreos the most.
- 1:37:19Mandy: I think so, except Sour Patch Kids.
- 1:37:22Chris: Yeah.
- 1:37:22Chris: Sour Patch Kids also ranked highly.
- 1:37:24Mandy: But in all fairness, Sour Patch Kids
- 1:37:26Mandy: are just Sour Patch Kids.
- 1:37:27Mandy: They were gonna be a special flavor.
- 1:37:28Chris: Same thing with the popcorn, yeah.
- 1:37:31Nora: Those were, yeah, the popcorn was okay.
- 1:37:33Nora: I think.
- 1:37:34Nora: Oh God.
- 1:37:34Chris: I'm surprised by how much I like the bratwurst.
- 1:37:37Nora: I'll definitely eat more of the Cheerios.
- 1:37:39Chris: Meanwhile, Mandy's dying.
- 1:37:40Nora: Oh God.
- 1:37:41Mandy: You're looking at my bratwurst?
- 1:37:42Mandy: Is that the problem?
- 1:37:43Mandy: Nope.
- 1:37:43Mandy: Just thinking about it.
- 1:37:45Mandy: it's not stained it. Okay got it. Oh boy. Yeah. Um do we do this is how we end it? Yeah.

- 1:38:13Nora: Be safe, don't do anything stupid.
- 1:38:15Nora: And keep all of your hands, all of your fingers on your hand.
- 1:38:18Nora: Don't use firecrackers.
- 1:38:19Nora: Get some Oreos.
