- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, friends.
- 0:00Speaker 2: Before we get into this episode, we wanted to let
- 0:02Speaker 2: you know what's happening here. This entire month will be
- 0:06Speaker 2: Christmas in July on Girls Gone Hamewark, featuring some movies
- 0:10Speaker 2: that we reviewed.
- 0:10Speaker 1: But you've never heard. That's right. These reviews appeared exclusively
- 0:15Speaker 1: on our Patreon account, but we dug them out from
- 0:19Speaker 1: the vault and we're gonna celebrate Christmas in July. I
- 0:23Speaker 1: gotta tell you, Megan, I'm a little bit concerned because
- 0:25Speaker 1: I don't know what I said about these movies.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Oh, you should probably give these episodes a listen to.
- 0:32Speaker 2: We hope you enjoy this month on Girls Gone Hamewark.
- 0:35Speaker 2: As always joined us on our Facebook group to talk
- 0:37Speaker 2: about these movies and these reviews.
- 0:40Speaker 3: Enjoy the episode.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Welcome to as episode of Girls Gone Hallmark. Thank you
- 1:02Speaker 2: for joining us here. I'm Megan, I'm Wendy, and today
- 1:06Speaker 2: we're discussing Christmas Sale from Hallmark's Countdown to Christmas series
- 1:10Speaker 2: and last week on Instagram, we had asked you to
- 1:13Speaker 2: vote for the movie you were most looking forward to,
- 1:16Speaker 2: and it was a real close tie between Christmas Sale
- 1:19Speaker 2: and Coyote Creek. So Kytie Creek made the main feed
- 1:21Speaker 2: and Christmas Sale is our bonus episode. We're going to
- 1:24Speaker 2: dive into it.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Yeah. I just realized that this was for Patreon, so
- 1:30Speaker 1: I think I'm gonna let my opinions fly a little
- 1:32Speaker 1: bit more on Patreon.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Okay, all right, do you have a synopsis?
- 1:37Speaker 1: I do. When Liz returns home to take care of
- 1:39Speaker 1: her estranged father, She's determined to give her daughter a
- 1:42Speaker 1: perfect Christmas and reconnects with her best friend. Starring Katie
- 1:47Speaker 1: sack Off, Patrick Subangi, and Terry O'Quinn.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Let's hop into some news and notes about this movie.
- 1:54Speaker 1: I couldn't find a ton of news and notes for
- 1:56Speaker 1: this movie.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Neither could I. We've got our standard filmed and care
- 2:00Speaker 2: Canada information.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Yep, that's right.
- 2:03Speaker 2: And we know that it was hot.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Yes, it was filmed during July and August.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Yes, and we do know that Katie Sakoff is new
- 2:12Speaker 2: to the Hallmark universe. But this movie was directed by
- 2:15Speaker 2: her fiance.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Yes, and she is also executive producer on it. That's exciting.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Look, honestly, with all of the GHAK fallout, I'm happy
- 2:26Speaker 2: to see Hallmark bringing in new actors and actresses to
- 2:29Speaker 2: the universe because shake things up.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Yeah, why not. There's tons of actors and actresses who
- 2:35Speaker 1: want to work, so, you.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Know, yeah, and we've got established actors like Terry O'Quinn.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Katie Sakoff has a pretty deep IMDb as well. But
- 2:46Speaker 2: Terry O'Quinn, I mean to me, he will always be
- 2:52Speaker 2: scary dude from Lost Locke.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Yes, I don't ever remember anybody's name. And he has
- 2:59Speaker 2: a hundred and twenty three acting credits on IMDb.
- 3:03Speaker 1: I watched this movie and I thought he deserves an
- 3:05Speaker 1: a im the nomination this movie. I loved him so much,
- 3:10Speaker 1: so much.
- 3:10Speaker 2: The first impression of this movie is, damn you, Terry O'Quinn.
- 3:14Speaker 1: You bade me cry three times.
- 3:16Speaker 2: I love it.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I love it. Do you want my first impression? Indeed,
- 3:21Speaker 1: why did they bury this on Halloween night? It was
- 3:24Speaker 1: super delightful, I know.
- 3:26Speaker 2: I wondered if they just didn't believe in the power
- 3:29Speaker 2: of this movie with Hallmark unknowns but not real world unknown.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Well, that's that's a good question. I wonder if the
- 3:40Speaker 1: Hallmark actors and actresses, the ones we recognize, is that
- 3:46Speaker 1: their draw is that how they get people to watch
- 3:50Speaker 1: their movies. Because Tyler Hines is in a movie or
- 3:53Speaker 1: Ryan Pavey or Jen Lelly or whatever. Is it not
- 3:56Speaker 1: the actual story?
- 3:59Speaker 2: Oh, I think people are coming for the actors and
- 4:01Speaker 2: actresses and then hoping they get.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Lucky with a movie that they like.
- 4:05Speaker 2: So I think Hallmark is taking a gamble on these
- 4:08Speaker 2: new names. But I also think it's smart because names
- 4:12Speaker 2: like this we have Patreon subscriber and Shorty and Instagram
- 4:17Speaker 2: friends Sheila and she does not watch Hallmark movies in
- 4:21Speaker 2: spite of being a listener of both types of our
- 4:23Speaker 2: podcast episodes, but she was planning to watch this movie
- 4:28Speaker 2: specifically for Katie Sakoff, who she loves. So I think
- 4:31Speaker 2: Hallmark is kind of playing two games here. You've got
- 4:34Speaker 2: to have your Candice Cameron Berets and your Lacy Shavers,
- 4:38Speaker 2: and you're Ryan Pavies and Tyler Hines. And then where's
- 4:41Speaker 2: that new audience Because we do have a little bit
- 4:44Speaker 2: of a split in the Hallmark universe, right people who
- 4:46Speaker 2: feel like Hallmark is too quote woke. So I think
- 4:50Speaker 2: they know that they're going to lose part of their
- 4:53Speaker 2: audience in their move to be a bit more progressive,
- 4:57Speaker 2: and so they're trying to replace that audience with new viewers,
- 5:01Speaker 2: and I think it's really smart.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Well, I absolutely agree. I mean, think about it this way.
- 5:06Speaker 1: If you're only making movies for the ten this is
- 5:10Speaker 1: I'm simplifying it obviously, But for the ten people who
- 5:13Speaker 1: watch your movies, you're never going to grow, right, So
- 5:17Speaker 1: throw your net out wider. Let's you know, let's see
- 5:22Speaker 1: who else can can draw viewers, right.
- 5:25Speaker 2: And I wonder how much they rely on the premiere
- 5:30Speaker 2: of these movies as opposed to the re airings. Because yes,
- 5:34Speaker 2: it was on Halloween night. We've got another movie buried
- 5:38Speaker 2: on Thanksgiving night. And I wonder how much thought goes
- 5:42Speaker 2: into that lineup.
- 5:43Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know. I really don't know, because,
- 5:47Speaker 1: like we've talked about before, last year's countdown, the Christmas
- 5:50Speaker 1: kind of started out with not great, with not a
- 5:52Speaker 1: great premiere. This year's was good, a great weekend. I thought.
- 5:57Speaker 1: I wonder if they just, like, you know, how a
- 6:00Speaker 1: dart board, like throw a dart and go all right,
- 6:02Speaker 1: this one's going on Halloween. Okay, this one's going on
- 6:05Speaker 1: December fifteenth, whatever.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Well, what did we like about this movie?
- 6:10Speaker 1: I have liked a couple things. Now I will tell
- 6:12Speaker 1: you that I was not super looking forward to this movie,
- 6:16Speaker 1: I had real low expectations, which were surprisingly exceeded. I
- 6:22Speaker 1: really liked it, if that's not obvious, But here are
- 6:25Speaker 1: some things I liked about it. One, I really liked
- 6:29Speaker 1: Luke Okay Patrick say his name Sebogie. I really liked him.
- 6:34Speaker 1: He has a familiar face. I don't know where I've
- 6:36Speaker 1: seen him before.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Oh okay, while you're talking, Okay, I really like I
- 6:40Speaker 2: kind of thought he was like low key, hunky, kind
- 6:44Speaker 2: of funny, like very easy to watch, an easy, like
- 6:48Speaker 2: natural actor. I thought he was great with what's her name,
- 6:53Speaker 2: Katie Sakoff when he leans in and tells her he
- 6:57Speaker 2: loves her, like that was a real moment.
- 7:00Speaker 1: That was a great scene. However, their kiss was awful,
- 7:05Speaker 1: and I'll talk about that a little bit later, but
- 7:08Speaker 1: that was a great scene. Like I got like chill
- 7:11Speaker 1: bumps when he leaned in to tell her, like I've
- 7:13Speaker 1: left you since I was a kid or whatever it was,
- 7:15Speaker 1: you know, Yeah, Okay, I have a question, though, where
- 7:18Speaker 1: did this movie take place at? Like I know she
- 7:21Speaker 1: worked in Seattle, but like did they ever say it
- 7:24Speaker 1: was called sports Side? But I don't that's like a
- 7:27Speaker 1: fake location.
- 7:28Speaker 2: I just assumed it was somewhere on the coast of
- 7:32Speaker 2: Washington or on the in the Pacific Northwest. I'm not
- 7:36Speaker 2: sure that they made that clear.
- 7:37Speaker 1: I know it was summertime when they filmed this, but
- 7:40Speaker 1: it seemed like wet, you know. It seemed damp and
- 7:46Speaker 1: cloudy some days.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Some days day I thought, did they get out there
- 7:51Speaker 2: early to get that marine layer so it looked like
- 7:53Speaker 2: it was cold?
- 7:54Speaker 1: Uh huh. But sometimes there was snow on the unlike
- 7:58Speaker 1: the debt, not the.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Deck, the dock. Yeah, not a water girl here. So
- 8:03Speaker 2: I was like, where where is this taking place?
- 8:06Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 8:06Speaker 2: It was good face snow, though it was it.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Looked like ice. It looked like crushed ice or something
- 8:12Speaker 1: like that.
- 8:12Speaker 2: It looked like leftover snow.
- 8:15Speaker 1: I was like, why wouldn't they just push that into
- 8:17Speaker 1: the water though, wouldn't you just put if you were
- 8:20Speaker 1: on a real dock, wouldn't you just push that snow
- 8:22Speaker 1: into the water?
- 8:23Speaker 2: Probably yeah, yeah, but not if you're trying to make
- 8:27Speaker 2: it look like it's recently snowed. Patrick Sabangi has one
- 8:32Speaker 2: hundred and twenty one acting credits on IMDb and is
- 8:36Speaker 2: this his first first Hallmark As far as I can tell.
- 8:40Speaker 2: He was in four episodes of Virgin River. He was
- 8:43Speaker 2: in forty two episodes of The Flash. He was in
- 8:48Speaker 2: Long Island serial Kill.
- 8:49Speaker 1: No, that's a My Alley.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Well.
- 8:51Speaker 1: I really liked him, and I'm glad that he's was
- 8:54Speaker 1: on a Hallmark movie. I hope we see more of
- 8:55Speaker 1: him because I liked him a lot.
- 8:57Speaker 2: He was in a movie called All of My Heart
- 8:59Speaker 2: in I and Love and that was a it looks
- 9:03Speaker 2: like a Hallmark Fall Harvest movie in twenty seventeen. Okay,
- 9:08Speaker 2: so not new to the channel, but making a reappearance.
- 9:11Speaker 1: But Katie Sacoff and Antario Quinn are both new, right, yes.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Yes, One thing I loved. I really liked the marina setting.
- 9:21Speaker 2: I liked that that felt like a new location for
- 9:24Speaker 2: these Christmas movies. You know, we see the same things
- 9:27Speaker 2: over and over again, but this was a nice visual departure.
- 9:30Speaker 2: And you know I love a boat parade.
- 9:33Speaker 3: I know you do.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Megan comes from a boat parade. Guys. This is her
- 9:38Speaker 1: bread and butter at Christmas time is a boat parade.
- 9:42Speaker 1: I'm she hosts a boat parade party every year. I do,
- 9:45Speaker 1: I do.
- 9:46Speaker 2: And I read her review somewhere that said they think
- 9:48Speaker 2: a boat parade is one of those things that perhaps
- 9:51Speaker 2: is more fun in person than on video like we
- 9:53Speaker 2: see in this, and of course it is, of course,
- 9:55Speaker 2: oh definitely the you know, we host a boat parade
- 9:57Speaker 2: party every year, and of course it's more fun to
- 9:59Speaker 2: stand and there with your friends chatting and eating and
- 10:02Speaker 2: drinking and having a good time. Then I would never
- 10:05Speaker 2: want to watch it on video. So I wonder that
- 10:08Speaker 2: maybe one of those things that doesn't quite translate. But
- 10:11Speaker 2: I just love a boat parade.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Well, okay, And it wasn't like we had to sit
- 10:17Speaker 1: and watch fifteen boats go by before theirs came out.
- 10:20Speaker 1: We saw two, right, you know, like come on, And
- 10:25Speaker 1: it wasn't like they were like what was funny is
- 10:27Speaker 1: that when their boat actually came out, it was there
- 10:32Speaker 1: for a really long time. They did all the stuff right,
- 10:34Speaker 1: And I was like, wouldn't they have like sailed by already?
- 10:37Speaker 2: Right?
- 10:39Speaker 1: I was like, is it just sitting out there in
- 10:40Speaker 1: the harbor for people to look out while they're doing
- 10:43Speaker 1: you know, they're having this moment.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Well, and not to get too into the inside baseball
- 10:50Speaker 2: of boat parades, but you know, on a parade route,
- 10:53Speaker 2: boat parade or otherwise, you're gonna have multiple stops. They
- 10:56Speaker 2: didn't turn their lights on until they were right in
- 10:59Speaker 2: front of the dock, and it was as if, oh,
- 11:01Speaker 2: this is the only place people are viewing the parade.
- 11:03Speaker 1: It's like a boat drive by, not a parade. So yeah, yeah, anyway,
- 11:08Speaker 1: what else did you like about it?
- 11:10Speaker 2: I loved the dinner table scene when they're all sitting
- 11:13Speaker 2: together and it's the family and it's the friends and
- 11:18Speaker 2: they're just kind of telling stories about Liz when she
- 11:22Speaker 2: tried to cast away on a ship. I just thought
- 11:25Speaker 2: that felt supernatural. The way they were laughing. It felt
- 11:29Speaker 2: like the way a family would talk to each other
- 11:31Speaker 2: and tease each other. And I thought there was tons
- 11:35Speaker 2: of chemistry with the cast in that moment.
- 11:38Speaker 1: I don't really totally recall that scene.
- 11:42Speaker 2: It was in the middle of the movie or nothing
- 11:44Speaker 2: particularly spectacular about it, except that as I was watching it,
- 11:48Speaker 2: I just felt very caught up in the moment.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Okay, here's the question. Yeah, the lady that kept like
- 11:54Speaker 1: always she was in every scene. She was like the
- 11:56Speaker 1: family friend. Yeah, and who smells like cookies that Yeah?
- 12:00Speaker 2: I think her name is Joyce In the movie.
- 12:02Speaker 1: What was her role? Is she just a family friend?
- 12:06Speaker 2: I think that's yes, I have something more in what
- 12:11Speaker 2: we wished for. But I think she's just a friend.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Okay, I got it. And I was like, how sweet
- 12:16Speaker 1: she smells like cookies, Like that's so sweet. Okay, here's
- 12:20Speaker 1: something I liked. Huh. I liked Emma Oliver, who played hand.
- 12:25Speaker 2: I was nervous every time that sweet little girl made
- 12:30Speaker 2: an appearance that we were going to get the Wendy
- 12:35Speaker 2: Child actor treatment with Dammit.
- 12:39Speaker 1: I'm so glad to hear that. I mean, she was
- 12:41Speaker 1: a good actress. She's a cute little girl, good actress,
- 12:44Speaker 1: and she's not like precocious, Like she wasn't a no
- 12:47Speaker 1: at all. Like my favorite scene is when she and
- 12:53Speaker 1: her mom Liz are on the boat trying to get
- 12:57Speaker 1: Luke to like help do the decorating of the boat
- 12:59Speaker 1: and are like, at least do it for her, and
- 13:02Speaker 1: she's like, please, this little girl. It was just so funny.
- 13:07Speaker 1: I just thought it was hilarious. Maybe it just caught
- 13:10Speaker 1: me at a moment, Yeah, weak moment exactly.
- 13:16Speaker 2: I'm so glad to hear that. Well, speaking of cast,
- 13:19Speaker 2: I did think this was well cast all around. But
- 13:21Speaker 2: I need to shout out Terry O'Quinn once again, I
- 13:24Speaker 2: thought he was fan freaking tastic in this role.
- 13:28Speaker 1: I agree. I have written down Katie and Terry together
- 13:32Speaker 1: as dad and daughter were fantastic. Agree.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Agree, Yeah, I Love didn't feel like a Hallmark movie
- 13:41Speaker 2: to me from the storyline on down Hallmark, is I
- 13:46Speaker 2: think really bringing this year?
- 13:49Speaker 1: You know, I'm pleasantly surprised. Yes, I'm pleasantly surprised. Dude
- 13:55Speaker 1: that that part where he went into like the extra
- 13:59Speaker 1: bedroom and started watching videos with his wife, I was like,
- 14:02Speaker 1: oh my god, like, I'm gonna ball my eyes out
- 14:05Speaker 1: right now.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Yes, o sad the scene when Hannah says to him,
- 14:11Speaker 2: why did you stop spending Christmas with us? And he
- 14:13Speaker 2: takes his hat off and he kind of scrubs his
- 14:15Speaker 2: hand over his head. I immediately started crying when I say,
- 14:19Speaker 2: tears sprang out of my eyes. What is happening? I
- 14:25Speaker 2: felt his grief for his wife in the moment totally much.
- 14:31Speaker 2: There were so many times I just thought he played
- 14:33Speaker 2: that role of the grieving widow and the way he
- 14:36Speaker 2: talked to Katie and called her kiddo. I don't know,
- 14:40Speaker 2: I mean yet, maybe it has something to do that
- 14:43Speaker 2: we're both you know, adult women with dads, Like I
- 14:48Speaker 2: could totally picture my dad in this role. It was.
- 14:51Speaker 2: It was emotional, well done Terry O'Quinn right, and I
- 14:54Speaker 2: thought he was great with the child actor too. Yeah,
- 14:57Speaker 2: very natural, good stuff, good stuff. One last thing that
- 15:03Speaker 2: I really liked and not this is not a spoiler.
- 15:06Speaker 2: I mean, if you've if you haven't watched the movie,
- 15:10Speaker 2: fast forward through this part.
- 15:13Speaker 1: But when they lift that sail on the boat, oh
- 15:16Speaker 1: my god, and those pictures start are displayed or illuminated
- 15:21Speaker 1: up there, and they're showing pictures of like when she's
- 15:23Speaker 1: small and when the mom was sick. And I was like,
- 15:27Speaker 1: I have full body chills right now talking about it,
- 15:30Speaker 1: like I went, oh, watch. I was openly weeping in
- 15:37Speaker 1: that moment. Oh. My husband was sitting next to me
- 15:39Speaker 1: and I'm like, I'm gonna cry. He's like, you're an idiot.
- 15:44Speaker 1: But oh my god, it was so good. It was
- 15:46Speaker 1: so good and so unexpected.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Yes, even as the sale was going up, I was like,
- 15:51Speaker 2: what's it gonna be? Is it gonna be something cheesy
- 15:54Speaker 2: like I love you?
- 15:55Speaker 1: No, it was not cheesy, I know, because when the
- 15:57Speaker 1: boat went by, I was like, all right, that looks
- 15:59Speaker 1: it looks good, you know, like it wasn't a twenty
- 16:02Speaker 1: five thousand dollars winter and can we talk for a second.
- 16:05Speaker 1: A twenty five thousand dollars prize for a boat parade decoration?
- 16:10Speaker 2: Right?
- 16:11Speaker 1: Where's that? Who is funding that?
- 16:13Speaker 2: From this tiny town?
- 16:15Speaker 1: Who knows? I would like to know that all. I
- 16:17Speaker 1: mean one hundred dollars gift certificate to the local restaurant maybe,
- 16:21Speaker 1: but twenty five bonner that says Judge's choice.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Yeah, really, wow, let's talk about what we wish for,
- 16:32Speaker 2: so I have a big one. Overall, really liked this movie,
- 16:36Speaker 2: but I did feel like there was something missing, and
- 16:39Speaker 2: I feel like they didn't close all of the loops. Okay,
- 16:43Speaker 2: in the opening scene, we see Liz and her family
- 16:48Speaker 2: taking photos and Luke is there and they say, get
- 16:50Speaker 2: in there, it's a family photo. Now we've talked about
- 16:54Speaker 2: this before. It could have been an issue of me
- 16:56Speaker 2: not paying close enough attention, but I felt like they
- 17:00Speaker 2: didn't articulate what Luke's role was in that moment. But
- 17:03Speaker 2: it's only through the context clues of watching the movie
- 17:06Speaker 2: later that you realized, Okay, this is her childhood best friend.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Because I thought maybe he was like a surrogate son
- 17:13Speaker 2: to them, maybe something had happened to his parents. We
- 17:16Speaker 2: learned his mom still very much alive and his dad
- 17:19Speaker 2: died when he was in college. I felt like that
- 17:22Speaker 2: was kind of unclear, And some of the roles that
- 17:26Speaker 2: the family friends played, I just didn't feel like they
- 17:31Speaker 2: sold me enough on the backstory.
- 17:33Speaker 1: So like the cookie lady, the cookie lady, Yeah, I
- 17:36Speaker 1: was like, was she a nurse, was she a love interest?
- 17:41Speaker 1: Was she just her best friend? Yeah? Exactly, And you've
- 17:46Speaker 1: got the daughter there. It's very easy to like throw in.
- 17:49Speaker 2: Some exposition like, hey, remember grandma's best friend so and so.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, but yeah, because instead like they she introduced her,
- 18:02Speaker 1: she introduced her and was like, this is so and so.
- 18:04Speaker 1: I honestly I can't remember her that character's name. I'm sorry,
- 18:07Speaker 1: but it's like she would have never been there before
- 18:12Speaker 1: if she was so close. Now, it's because the granddaughter
- 18:17Speaker 1: knew the grandma.
- 18:18Speaker 2: At one point, I couldn't get a feel for how
- 18:20Speaker 2: long it had been since they had spent Christmas with them,
- 18:25Speaker 2: and how long since the grandmother had passed. But the
- 18:27Speaker 2: granddaughter's not that old, and you know, she made comments
- 18:31Speaker 2: about missing grandma, so she clearly knew.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Her closed the loop for us Hallmark Grander's Oh What'd
- 18:38Speaker 1: you wish for? I wished for a better title, but
- 18:43Speaker 1: but this I wrote my note down, I wish for
- 18:46Speaker 1: a better title of this movie. But then Christmas Sale
- 18:50Speaker 1: I get. I don't know, I don't you know what
- 18:54Speaker 1: I mean? Like that when they raised the sale that
- 18:57Speaker 1: was a pinnacle point of the movie. So I get
- 19:00Speaker 1: the title, but the title itself is not like enough
- 19:03Speaker 1: to draw me in because it's not like they're sailing
- 19:05Speaker 1: out on the water. They're driving the boat in the harbor,
- 19:09Speaker 1: do you know what I mean?
- 19:10Speaker 2: It needed a come home for Christmas or home for
- 19:14Speaker 2: the holidays, right, It needed something about I didn't communicate
- 19:18Speaker 2: the family storyline.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Well right, that's how I feel. That's how I feel
- 19:22Speaker 1: about it. That's all I have for those are all
- 19:25Speaker 1: my wishes. Okay, this might be a hot take care.
- 19:28Speaker 1: I was a little underwhelmed by Katie's sackoff. Oh no, okay,
- 19:33Speaker 1: And this is why because leading up to this movie,
- 19:36Speaker 1: I've never heard of her, and I know our friend
- 19:39Speaker 1: Sheila was like, oh my god, she's amazing. I love
- 19:42Speaker 1: her so much. And then I had saw on Twitter
- 19:44Speaker 1: people were so excited Katie sack Off. I'm gonna watch
- 19:48Speaker 1: this just for Katie sack Off. I don't know who
- 19:50Speaker 1: she is, Like, I have no idea who she is,
- 19:51Speaker 1: so I was like hyped. I didn't really like her.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Oh no, I thought she was kind of the weakest
- 19:57Speaker 1: part of the movie. No. Yeah, it And on top
- 20:03Speaker 1: of it, like every scene she's smiling, like she's emoting
- 20:08Speaker 1: smiles every single scene, and I was like, nobody walks
- 20:12Speaker 1: around with a perma smile on like that, Like, I
- 20:14Speaker 1: just it made me uncomfortable. Almost okay, she just was
- 20:19Speaker 1: like smiling in every scene, like talking to somebody, smiling, smiling, smiling, smiling.
- 20:25Speaker 1: I don't know, it just it was sorry for you.
- 20:30Speaker 2: You know, she's big in the sci fi world, and
- 20:32Speaker 2: so I think people that are into that have very
- 20:35Speaker 2: strong connections with her. I think the thing she's most
- 20:39Speaker 2: well known for is Battlestar Galactica, And yeah, I love
- 20:42Speaker 2: Battlestar Galactica. Love Battlestar Galactica. So people, you know, she
- 20:48Speaker 2: was in seventy two episodes of that and she I
- 20:51Speaker 2: have seen the first few, and she definitely plays a
- 20:56Speaker 2: very hivotal role in that.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I saw that she has some other show
- 21:02Speaker 1: on Netflix too. I'm gonna look it up right now.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Another Life on Netflix. Have you ever seen that? Yeah?
- 21:12Speaker 2: I don't.
- 21:12Speaker 1: I don't know that show. It's just as TV series.
- 21:15Speaker 1: I thought it said it was on Netflix. Oh never mind,
- 21:19Speaker 1: it's also uh sci fi ish? Yeah, nope, I'm out. Nope.
- 21:26Speaker 1: So anyway, I mean, I know there's some Katie's sack
- 21:29Speaker 1: off fit stands out there, but sorry, you not me.
- 21:33Speaker 2: Are you ready for did you see that? Yeah?
- 21:35Speaker 1: And I only have like two Okay, do you want
- 21:40Speaker 1: me to go first?
- 21:41Speaker 2: Sure?
- 21:41Speaker 1: I mentioned it earlier. Luke and Lizzi's kiss, big ol' yikes.
- 21:47Speaker 1: It was like there was no heat, no chemistry at all.
- 21:51Speaker 1: And look, I know we're not gonna get sexy. I
- 21:54Speaker 1: know we're not gonna get heat, but it was like
- 21:58Speaker 1: lips touching, barely no movement. It was so uncomfortable to watch,
- 22:07Speaker 1: and it was like a drawn out, long scene just touch.
- 22:11Speaker 1: I don't know, I didn't like it. You are not.
- 22:14Speaker 2: Alone in that assessment because I read that review. Here
- 22:17Speaker 2: was my take on that kiss. We've got childhood best
- 22:22Speaker 2: friends who pretend not to know that the other one
- 22:26Speaker 2: was ever in love with them and we finally have
- 22:30Speaker 2: this adult revelation after all of these years, and.
- 22:35Speaker 1: It's like all of this pent up.
- 22:38Speaker 2: Emotion and they're not quite sure what to do with themselves.
- 22:41Speaker 1: That's how I read that.
- 22:43Speaker 2: But you are welcome to feel however you feel.
- 22:45Speaker 1: But I think if, okay, if a man whispers in
- 22:50Speaker 1: my ear I've been in love with you since I
- 22:53Speaker 1: was a teenager, I would have melted. It wasn't like
- 22:58Speaker 1: she was completely oblieve like they She even says later
- 23:02Speaker 1: like our timing never works out or whatever, So she's
- 23:07Speaker 1: not an idiot. She knows that there has been some feelings.
- 23:10Speaker 1: I don't know. I just think like she went in
- 23:12Speaker 1: for the kiss and it was just so awkward. I'm sorry,
- 23:17Speaker 1: like I'm having a like a response to it. Sorry,
- 23:23Speaker 1: I know.
- 23:24Speaker 2: Sorry, Hey, a little bit more lighthearted. There's a scene
- 23:27Speaker 2: where Luke is throwing Christmas trees in the back of
- 23:30Speaker 2: his truck. I don't know where he's taking them, but
- 23:31Speaker 2: he was just tossing them in there. They're not wrapped up,
- 23:34Speaker 2: they're not tied down. He just throws trees big and
- 23:37Speaker 2: small into the back of his truck. And I think
- 23:38Speaker 2: those trees are going to arrive in pieces. There's not
- 23:41Speaker 2: going to be a branch left on those trees.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Not to one needle laftop. I didn't even notice. I
- 23:48Speaker 1: don't even remember that scene. It's early in the movie.
- 23:50Speaker 2: There's another continuity issue where it's just part of the
- 23:54Speaker 2: tree lighting and they're all hanging around and someone runs
- 23:56Speaker 2: up and says, we're going to miss the tree lighting. Guys,
- 23:58Speaker 2: the sun is high in the side. It is. It's
- 24:02Speaker 2: me cut to the very next scene. It's dark, and
- 24:04Speaker 2: I said, did they go inside. No, They've just decided
- 24:08Speaker 2: to fast forward three hours until the sun has completely set,
- 24:11Speaker 2: and now it is time for the tree lighting. That's
- 24:14Speaker 2: so missing.
- 24:15Speaker 1: My husband said the same thing. He's like, bro, it's
- 24:17Speaker 1: still light offs. And it's funny that you say that,
- 24:21Speaker 1: because she the little girl, had like a cup of
- 24:25Speaker 1: cocoa with like a ton of whipped cream on it,
- 24:28Speaker 1: and then they're like, oh, we gotta go, and she's
- 24:30Speaker 1: they start running and then the whipped cream is gone
- 24:34Speaker 1: off the top of it, but she's like slushing it around.
- 24:36Speaker 1: There's nothing in it, obviously, but I'm like, oh, she
- 24:39Speaker 1: had time to eat her whipped cream. But now now
- 24:42Speaker 1: I'm like fully watching drinks because I think somebody complained.
- 24:46Speaker 1: I don't know if it was on IMDb or Twitter
- 24:48Speaker 1: or where I saw it, but I think it was
- 24:50Speaker 1: the Coyote Creek Christmas that they were talking about, like
- 24:53Speaker 1: these people don't have any drinks, and was it you
- 24:56Speaker 1: that complained about it? So can't remember.
- 25:00Speaker 2: I'm sorry some random persons.
- 25:03Speaker 1: It's that there's been a lot of stuff coming out.
- 25:06Speaker 1: I can't remember what right now.
- 25:09Speaker 2: Anyway, there's a scene where Luke and Liz are walking
- 25:12Speaker 2: on the dock and Luke's wearing a sweater and he's
- 25:14Speaker 2: wearing a scarf, yes, and his sleaves are pushed up
- 25:18Speaker 2: on the sweater. But then he goes up and he
- 25:21Speaker 2: like is like rubbing his arms to warm himself up.
- 25:25Speaker 2: I'm like, dude, your sleeves are how cold could you be?
- 25:32Speaker 1: That's so funny. I did notice his scarf, Yeah, that maybe,
- 25:35Speaker 1: laugh that's hilarious.
- 25:38Speaker 2: His scarf was like very very short, resent I was like,
- 25:44Speaker 2: there's just like very large around his neck over this sweater.
- 25:47Speaker 1: These poor people, it's like one hundred degrees and they're like.
- 25:50Speaker 2: Loosen the scarf so it's not touching them.
- 25:55Speaker 1: I don't think I don't know if you caught this.
- 25:56Speaker 1: I don't even know if I would have caught it.
- 25:58Speaker 1: My husband actually caught it. Dennis is in his little
- 26:01Speaker 1: den and he's reminiscing about life with his wife as
- 26:04Speaker 1: he's watching these old home videos, and he talks about
- 26:07Speaker 1: how they had hoped to sail off to a remote island.
- 26:11Speaker 1: My husband goes, did he just say that he wanted
- 26:14Speaker 1: to go to a remote island? Because you know, I'm lost?
- 26:18Speaker 1: They were on a remote island. Okay, that's funny, that's
- 26:22Speaker 1: funname it did not, probably not intentional, but pretty funny.
- 26:27Speaker 2: Well, we were watching the movie and there's a scene
- 26:30Speaker 2: where he's like, yeah, she just took care of everything.
- 26:32Speaker 2: So after she died, like basically, he stopped paying bills.
- 26:35Speaker 2: I don't really understand. It's been here and well at
- 26:38Speaker 2: some point you'd be like, maybe I should pay for
- 26:40Speaker 2: this house.
- 26:41Speaker 1: But because they did, they really explain why the house
- 26:45Speaker 1: was going into foreclosure, like had he lost his job?
- 26:48Speaker 1: Like why why he just wasn't paying the bill?
- 26:51Speaker 2: Well that was what was unclear to me, because he said,
- 26:54Speaker 2: like I just kind of lost track of it. But okay,
- 26:57Speaker 2: if you lost track of it, but you have the money.
- 27:00Speaker 2: Why aren't we paying for so you didn't lose track
- 27:03Speaker 2: of it? You didn't have the money. It was unclear.
- 27:05Speaker 2: My husband goes, yeah, something ever happens to you. I
- 27:08Speaker 2: don't know how to do anything like turning on the chipuzzee.
- 27:12Speaker 2: You're gonna have to write down all the steps for me.
- 27:15Speaker 2: I go, yeah, that's gonna be your first concern. Should
- 27:17Speaker 2: I croak, I turn on the jit?
- 27:22Speaker 1: Am I gonna get the the night?
- 27:26Speaker 4: Oh my gosh, yeah that's They didn't need to have
- 27:32Speaker 4: that storyline. I guess they just had to, Like they
- 27:36Speaker 4: had to figure out, how are we going to get
- 27:38Speaker 4: her to enter the boat parade competition? She needs that
- 27:43Speaker 4: money for some reason? Like does she need the money?
- 27:46Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Like cause and effect? Like
- 27:48Speaker 1: it wasn't necessary. She could have entered the boat competition
- 27:51Speaker 1: because she her dad wanted to sail the boats, not
- 27:57Speaker 1: sail sell the boat, you know what I mean. So
- 28:01Speaker 1: like she could have been like, hey let me this
- 28:03Speaker 1: is my last chance. Mom and I used to do
- 28:08Speaker 1: this stuff and so on. Whatever. They didn't need to,
- 28:11Speaker 1: like save the house from foreclosure on it was a
- 28:13Speaker 1: nice house. It wasn't. Yeah, it wasn't like they were.
- 28:16Speaker 2: Nice house, and I was like, they lived there her
- 28:19Speaker 2: entire life. Obviously he has equity in this house, Like,
- 28:21Speaker 2: couldn't they just sell it and pay off what they
- 28:24Speaker 2: own to the bank and then move to a smaller hut.
- 28:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I know, I know. It's just I think it's
- 28:31Speaker 1: like ticks those Hallmark boxes and has there has to
- 28:34Speaker 1: be some kind of competition and there has to be
- 28:36Speaker 1: somebody coming home and whatever, you know.
- 28:39Speaker 2: Some sort of conflict. Hey, did you see we had
- 28:41Speaker 2: non digital snow?
- 28:43Speaker 1: I did notice that, And when it came on, I
- 28:46Speaker 1: was like, is that digital? And my husband's like, no,
- 28:48Speaker 1: it's landing on them. I honestly think maybe it was
- 28:52Speaker 1: a combination of both. I couldn't quite tell. It was
- 28:54Speaker 1: a quick scene, but it was definitely landing on them.
- 28:57Speaker 1: So thank you Hallmark. Yeah, we don't want that digital snow.
- 29:01Speaker 1: I don't if it's like far away? What are you
- 29:05Speaker 1: rating this movie? Three point fuve do me too? Exactly?
- 29:10Speaker 1: I told my husband. I was like, this is one
- 29:12Speaker 1: of the better Hallmark Christmas movies I have seen. I
- 29:16Speaker 1: really enjoyed it. I enjoyed it. A movie that makes
- 29:19Speaker 1: me cry wow, and with a child actor. I didn't hate.
- 29:24Speaker 1: I mean, these are all in the good side of
- 29:27Speaker 1: the column here.
