- 0:03SPEAKER_00: Hello, everyone.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to the Astrology for Beginners podcast.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Stephanie Kate Boucher, and I am so happy to have you here.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: This is the podcast for you if you have ever wanted to learn how to read a natal chart or were kind of interested in astrology and wished that you understood more about it, but didn't know where to begin or it seemed too complicated and you didn't have the time or the resources to invest in learning it.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: My goal is to break things down for you episode by episode in the most simplified way that I can so that you can learn to speak the language of the stars.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: Thank you for learning astrology with me.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: Welcome, everyone.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: Here we are with this episode going live just after the Great American Eclipse.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: By the time you hear this, we will have had our total solar eclipse in Aries.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: It was a North Node eclipse conjunct the asteroid Chiron.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: The North Node is about the future and events or developments that feel fated.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: possibly one of the most important eclipses of our lifetime.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: And we will be feeling the effects of this event collectively, especially for a long time.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: I hope things are going well for you.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: I know that for me, life has been really intense these past couple of weeks.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: I
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: I am one of those people that I have been talking about whose natal chart was heavily aspected by this event.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: It hit all four of my angles.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: It was conjunct my descendant line, which of course is the same thing as being opposite my ascendant line.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: It was square my midheaven and my IC.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: So all four angular houses were activated.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: The first house of self, the fourth house of home and family.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: the seventh house of relationships, and the 10th house of career.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: And I have had all kinds of things popping up in those parts of my life in a big, big way.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: It was also square, my natal sun and Jupiter in the 10th house.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: It was opposite my natal Pluto.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: So just really a lot going on.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: The lunar eclipse a couple of weeks ago hit my north node, which isn't a small thing either.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: And of course, I had been looking at all of this for a while and had seen the aspects that it would be making.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: So I've been really curious to see how this particular time would play out and how strongly I'd actually feel it.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: And the answer is pretty strongly, it's wild.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: Everything that one would think would come up by looking at my transit chart is pretty much what came up.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: And it's not of my own doing either, any of it.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: Things were just happening.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: That's what's crazy.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: It's like, I couldn't have made this stuff up if I tried.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: Some of it has felt rather challenging, some of it less so.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: All of it, though, really good growth edges for me ultimately.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: So I bring this up because perhaps some of you are feeling this too.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: I know I've heard from at least a couple of you who have told me that you are, in fact, going through some similar experiences.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: And to that, I just say that transition goes more smoothly.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: If we can just let go, release our need to control things and trust the process.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: Be wise and cautious and mindful, but trust the universe to have your back, as Gabby Bernstein would say.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: Okay, we are really here to wrap up, at least for now, our discussion of the planets in our natal chart, or in our solar system, more specifically, and the way that they influence us.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: I do want to mention quickly here that...
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: Somewhere in the middle of this episode, during our conversation about Neptune, there will likely be a reference to substance use and substance use disorders.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: These references do take place in a cultural and historical context, but some listeners could find it distressing.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: If you think that is you, please skip that part or skip whatever you need to and take good care of yourself.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: In addition to the luminaries or the sun and the moon, we've covered the personal planets, Mercury, Venus, and Mars.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: Those are the ones that pack the biggest punch in terms of shaping our personalities and the ways that we think, feel, and behave in our day-to-day lives.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: We've also covered now the social planets, Jupiter and Saturn, which shape the ways that we view and engage with our wider communities.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: Remember that Jupiter is emblematic of our hopes, dreams, and beliefs, while Saturn represents our limitations as well as what we actually need to do to make our hopes real in the physical world.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: It gives things structure.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: The outer planets, which you'll also hear called the transpersonal planets, are, as you might have guessed from their name, the planets farthest away from the sun.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: They are on the outskirts of our solar system.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: And because they are so far away from the sun,
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: They take a really long time to move through all 12 signs of the zodiac.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: Uranus, for example, takes around 83 years, or about one human lifetime, to make a full revolution around the Sun.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: Neptune takes somewhere around 160 years, and Pluto takes nearly 250 years to move through all 12 signs.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: These planets stay in a single sign for a long time.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: And because of that, because they hold a singular energy for many years at a time, they shape entire generations of people, like millennials being born with Neptune and Capricorn as an example.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: Neptune and Capricorn creates a certain energy, certain traits, a certain vibe, and everyone born under that influence is going to share those qualities.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: That is one of the reasons why people inside a single generation can have lots of similarities in their thinking and experiences that are different from the generations on either side of them.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: Neptune in Capricorn has a different vibe than Neptune in Sagittarius, like most of Gen X has, or Neptune in Aquarius, like Gen Z has.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: And any one of those are going to be different from having Neptune in Libra like many boomers do.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: So these planets add their own unique flavor to each generation.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: And they also have a big influence on the types of themes that you see coming up in society and in the culture as a whole.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: Whenever an outer planet changes signs, it's a big deal because that means the culture is about to shift in some way.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: Our worldview, our perspective, the stories we want to look at in the news.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: The political ideology that comes to the fore, the art we create, the discoveries we make, the way we relate to each other as humans is all going to start making a shift.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: And it's going to shift along themes particular to the planet in question, combined with the energy and characteristics of that new sign.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: That's why, for example, there has been such a big deal made about Pluto moving into the sign of Aquarius.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: Pluto dipped into Aquarius for the first time for just a few months last year and then retrograded back into Capricorn.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: and has since moved back into Aquarius.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: It'll do this little retrograde dance one more time later this year and go back into Capricorn again for a little while before becoming firmly planted in Aquarius for good in early 2025, where it will stay for the better part of two decades or so.
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: Now, Pluto moved into Capricorn in 2008, around the time of the Great Recession and the big financial collapse after years of economic expansion.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: Now, as we talked about in the last episode, Pluto transforms everything it touches, often just knocking down whatever needs to go so that something better can rise from the ashes.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: So the economy broke down, the housing market burst and exposed some very detrimental banking practices that had been going on in order to benefit some very wealthy Wall Street types.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: And since that time, society has had opportunity after opportunity to examine some very Pluto and Capricorn themes.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: like consolidation of power, top-down social structures where a few people are at the very top and there are many more on the bottom without much power, authoritarianism.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: We've also looked at traditional social structures and ideologies.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: Remember, Capricorn rules our traditions and institutions.
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: And we had a lot more discussion about whether or not these traditional structures were working or even appropriate or useful to carry forward with us.
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: It hasn't been easy, but Capricorn isn't particularly known for being a warm, fuzzy sign.
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: Capricorn's a tough cookie.
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: So we got some tougher lessons with Pluto here.
- 10:13SPEAKER_00: Aquarius, on the other hand, is extremely innovative and pioneering.
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: It values community and equality.
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: So with Pluto there, we can expect enormous shifts to take place from the Pluto in Capricorn era.
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: With every passing year over the next couple of decades, we can expect that Pluto will bring society closer and closer toward Aquarian ideals.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: Because that's the sign it's in.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: And that's what Pluto does.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: It transforms things.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: That might look like and probably will look like large technological and medical advancements, greater connectivity between human beings.
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: And when I say that, I don't mean the more superficial kind that we've come to see with social media, but the more genuine art of deeper human connection.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: We could see economic or political structures or social systems that are more egalitarian.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: Certainly, more and more people will be looking to break with convention in all kinds of ways.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: And some people, you know, really welcome that.
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: And some people are terrified of that.
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: The unknown can be hard for lots of folks.
- 11:33SPEAKER_00: And that's creating a lot of division.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: All of that division, though, all of the strife, all of the resistance doesn't prevent Pluto from transitioning through Aquarius.
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: That's going to happen anyway.
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: And undoubtedly, in 20 years time, by the time Pluto reaches Pisces.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: The world will look very different because this planet of transformation will have moved all the way through the most innovative sign of the zodiac.
- 12:05SPEAKER_00: The last time Pluto entered Aquarius, by the way, marked the initial spread of democratic ideals and democracy itself as an accepted style of government.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: That is no coincidence.
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: Pluto in Aquarius brought us the American Revolution, the French and Haitian revolutions.
- 12:27SPEAKER_00: The first ever vaccine was created while Pluto was in Aquarius.
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: It was the smallpox vaccine, which was revolutionary in medicine up to that point.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: Those were not small developments.
- 12:41SPEAKER_00: These are the types of things that the outer planets can do.
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: None of this is to say, though, that the three planets, these outer planets, don't also impact your natal chart on a personal level.
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: They do.
- 12:55SPEAKER_00: They each have qualities and traits, just like the other planets do, and they do have meaning in your chart.
- 13:03SPEAKER_00: So let's talk in more detail about each one of these planets, and you can start thinking about what they mean for society, for your generation, and for you.
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: The first one is Uranus.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: At least that's how I say it.
- 13:18SPEAKER_00: Some people say Uranus.
- 13:20SPEAKER_00: Some people say Uranus.
- 13:21SPEAKER_00: It sounds weird to me either way.
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: These always seem to make people uncomfortable.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: And honestly, I kind of don't think that's a coincidence because Uranus, as a planetary energy, is all about shoving you outside of your comfort zone to the point that it ended up having a name that literally weirds people out.
- 13:42SPEAKER_00: Uranus is a higher octave of Mercury, so it's brainy.
- 13:48SPEAKER_00: It's the modern ruler of the sign of Aquarius, and as such, it's the planet of innovation, of rebelliousness and individuality.
- 13:59SPEAKER_00: It's kind of an eccentric energy, too.
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: It likes to break with convention.
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: It doesn't want to feel boxed in or constrained by social norms or tradition.
- 14:10SPEAKER_00: It just wants to be its most authentic self.
- 14:15SPEAKER_00: It wants to chart its own course.
- 14:17SPEAKER_00: And it wants to venture out into new unexplored territory.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: So in your natal chart...
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: Even though everyone born within several years of you will have Uranus in the same sign that you do, and that's a generational trait you'll share, it's still going to be in a particular house, and it may also be forming aspects with your personal planets or your angles.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: And that will become a unique experience for you.
- 14:48SPEAKER_00: The house where Uranus lives in your natal chart is where it is in your life you could expect to be someone who does things a bit unconventionally.
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: If you had Uranus in the second house, for example, you might be someone who earns their money or their income in an unconventional way.
- 15:12SPEAKER_00: Maybe this person would have a unique or unusual vocation.
- 15:17SPEAKER_00: Maybe they would work for themselves or have their own business because Uranus is really independent and doesn't want someone else telling them what to do.
- 15:28SPEAKER_00: Or maybe they don't have a traditional nine to five job and they're on the job around the clock for a few weeks, but then go weeks in between jobs without work.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: What's coming to mind when I think about this is like an actor who works a lot when they're on set, but then they take breaks between films.
- 15:50SPEAKER_00: Or maybe a few years go by and that actor can't get another part because that would be another thing with Uranus here is unpredictability.
- 15:59SPEAKER_00: Uranus is very unpredictable.
- 16:02SPEAKER_00: So it can also be a sign of things that aren't always consistent or that swing up and down or back and forth.
- 16:11SPEAKER_00: So you can expect there to be surprises in the house where Uranus lives.
- 16:16SPEAKER_00: Now, Neptune is the higher octave of Venus, so let's think back to all of those Venusian qualities we've talked about, love, beauty, and amplify them to the next level.
- 16:30SPEAKER_00: Neptune is the planet of empathy, artistry and creativity, inspiration, intuition and spirituality, and connection to source energy.
- 16:43SPEAKER_00: Fantasy and make-believe, our dreams, like during our sleep, are ruled by Neptune.
- 16:50SPEAKER_00: There's so much beauty and love available with Neptune.
- 16:55SPEAKER_00: But its shadow side is that it's not always really grounded in reality.
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: With Neptune involved, there can be confusion, illusions, escapism of any kind, and even addiction can be a theme here.
- 17:13SPEAKER_00: From 1970 to 1984, Neptune was transiting the sign of Sagittarius.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: And I believe that there is a strong correlation there between that transit and the explosion of drug culture.
- 17:31SPEAKER_00: Because Sagittarius is all about being adventurous and wanting to expand your horizons.
- 17:38SPEAKER_00: It's also this very jovial sign that loves a good party.
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: It wants to eat, drink, and be merry, right?
- 17:46SPEAKER_00: And it's ruled by Jupiter.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: And Jupiter magnifies everything and makes it, you know, bigger.
- 17:53SPEAKER_00: So you send Neptune through that territory and people start to become more uninhibited.
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: The sexual revolution continued all throughout the 70s.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: Young people living through that time were just generally a lot freer in many different ways than their parents had been.
- 18:11SPEAKER_00: The women's movement happened then and many other things.
- 18:16SPEAKER_00: But
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: drug use where there was suddenly cocaine at every party and lots of people were exploring drugs more and not just the LSD of the late 60s but other things too, it became part of the social scene or the party scene.
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: The party scene being Sagittarius and the escapism and illusions surrounding drug use being of Neptune.
- 18:41SPEAKER_00: And lots of people were developing substance use disorders.
- 18:45SPEAKER_00: The war on drugs started during this time frame.
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: Substance use, of course, never really went away, but the wider spread use and acceptance of many of these drugs did start to recede after Neptune moved into Capricorn.
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: So, you know, not to get too off topic, but Neptune, like the other outer planets, can be highly beautiful, but also sometimes destructive if we sink into that shadow side.
- 19:15SPEAKER_00: In your natal chart, Neptune's house placement represents where in your life you tend to look at things through rose-colored glasses.
- 19:25SPEAKER_00: And that's not all bad, even though it sounds that way.
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: It's where in your life you see very deep meaning.
- 19:33SPEAKER_00: It's where you are soulful, where you are connected or feel connected to divine energy.
- 19:41SPEAKER_00: It can be where you see great beauty, where you exercise high levels of creativity.
- 19:49SPEAKER_00: It can also be where you exercise empathy and concern for other people.
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: It can also be where we have some illusions or where we're trying to see things as being more beautiful than perhaps they really are.
- 20:05SPEAKER_00: Neptune can create some confusion in this house that it's in and make it hard to see what's really true.
- 20:12SPEAKER_00: Kind of a double edged sword again.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: And you have to learn how to work with this energy.
- 20:17SPEAKER_00: Okay, that leaves us with Pluto.
- 20:20SPEAKER_00: Pluto is technically not considered a planet anymore, although in astrology we still talk about it as though it is a planet.
- 20:27SPEAKER_00: It is the higher octave of Mars, so it's oriented towards action and going after what it wants.
- 20:35SPEAKER_00: But unlike Mars, which is very impulsive and has this just-do-it kind of impatience about it, Pluto is calculated.
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: Pluto is going to take action and get what it wants, but it plays the long game.
- 20:50SPEAKER_00: It's not impulsive.
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: It is brave, like Mars is, but it's cunning and strategic.
- 20:57SPEAKER_00: Pluto is very smart and it has a plan and it will stick with that plan for as long as it needs in order to reach its goals.
- 21:06SPEAKER_00: Pluto is the most resilient of all the planets.
- 21:11SPEAKER_00: It can go through extraordinary circumstances and rise from the ashes over and over again.
- 21:18SPEAKER_00: It has incredible powers of regeneration.
- 21:22SPEAKER_00: It's a lot like Scorpio, and in fact it is the modern ruler of Scorpio.
- 21:27SPEAKER_00: Pluto, of course, was the god of the underworld in mythology, and it, like Scorpio, likes to dig down deep and see whatever is hiding under the surface and bring it all up for examination.
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: So it deals with subconscious thinking, taboo things, the inner workings of things, machinations that go on behind the scenes, secrets that have been covered up, and all of those types of things.
- 21:57SPEAKER_00: And then once it brings them up, it wants to transform them.
- 22:01SPEAKER_00: This is the planet of transformation, of rebirth.
- 22:05SPEAKER_00: And it wants to get rid of everything dysfunctional and build something else.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: It also deals with issues of power and power imbalances.
- 22:17SPEAKER_00: In the positive pole, this would be developing a healthy dose of personal power or perhaps a sense of empowerment.
- 22:27SPEAKER_00: The shadow side of this would be a need for control or occasionally domination.
- 22:34SPEAKER_00: So again, with the outer planets, you get that double-edged sword.
- 22:38SPEAKER_00: I know I keep using that term, but it works here.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: And you have to try to work with those more positive sides and those positive areas of potential.
- 22:47SPEAKER_00: In your natal chart, Pluto represents where it is in your life that you may experience a lot of change.
- 22:55SPEAKER_00: where you will undergo significant transformations is in the house that Pluto is in.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: There could be some upheaval there too, because typically there's always upheaval before a big transformation or as part of a big transformation.
- 23:11SPEAKER_00: Or it could indicate some power struggles, issues around either feeling controlled or trying to control other people or situations.
- 23:21SPEAKER_00: But there's also leadership potential with Pluto.
- 23:25SPEAKER_00: Its house placement makes you very shrewd in that area and also very magnetic.
- 23:31SPEAKER_00: Pluto gives people a lot of charisma and kind of...
- 23:36SPEAKER_00: draws people in.
- 23:38SPEAKER_00: There's something intense and almost kind of hypnotizing about many people who have a very strong Pluto influence in their chart.
- 23:47SPEAKER_00: Lots of celebrities have very Plutonian charts.
- 23:50SPEAKER_00: The artist formerly known as Prince had Pluto conjunct his midheaven.
- 23:55SPEAKER_00: That's one I can remember right off the top of my head.
- 23:59SPEAKER_00: That's just one.
- 24:00SPEAKER_00: There are so, so many, though, and you can definitely look that up.
- 24:04SPEAKER_00: It's fun.
- 24:05SPEAKER_00: With these planets, I'm not going to do what I've been doing and go through each planet in each sign.
- 24:12SPEAKER_00: As I said before, the sign that the outer planets are in in the chart are more generational indicators than personal ones.
- 24:23SPEAKER_00: And you can certainly find lots of information online about what each of those means generationally.
- 24:29SPEAKER_00: The house placement is personal, though, and so are the aspects they make with other planets.
- 24:35SPEAKER_00: So definitely look at those in your chart.
- 24:38SPEAKER_00: And if you have any questions or are having a hard time interpreting something, feel free to reach out.
- 24:45SPEAKER_00: Okay, that is it for this episode.
- 24:49SPEAKER_00: If you have an extra few seconds, I'd love it if you could rate or review this podcast.
- 24:55SPEAKER_00: That will really help the show and make sure that more people can find it.
- 24:59SPEAKER_00: I also encourage you to subscribe through whatever app you are listening on, and that will ensure that you never miss an episode.
- 25:07SPEAKER_00: That's it for today, everyone.
- 25:09SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much for being here and learning astrology with me.
- 25:13SPEAKER_00: We have completed our planets for now, but there's still so much more to cover, of course.
- 25:18SPEAKER_00: Over the next few episodes, we will be talking about the lunar nodes, the north and south nodes.
- 25:26SPEAKER_00: We'll be talking about the angles.
- 25:28SPEAKER_00: We will have asteroids to talk about, like Chiron, for example, but there are others too, and they're really interesting things.
- 25:36SPEAKER_00: and many other things.
- 25:38SPEAKER_00: I don't know the exact order of all that just yet, but stay tuned.
- 25:42SPEAKER_00: In the meantime, thank you so much for joining me.
- 25:45SPEAKER_00: Have a great week and I will see you next time.
