- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:06Speaker 2: We're here with the almost famous podcast. We have Don
- 0:08Speaker 2: and Charity here. I will be honest and I'm not
- 0:12Speaker 2: blowing smoke. You two are people I just really admire
- 0:15Speaker 2: and have really thought, like you know, I was just
- 0:18Speaker 2: telling Charity, I think my my money was on you
- 0:23Speaker 2: to make it and not in this weird bachelor. It's
- 0:26Speaker 2: just like, it's cool when people actually meet each other
- 0:27Speaker 2: and find love and it's something to celebrate because if not,
- 0:31Speaker 2: I don't know why we do this.
- 0:33Speaker 3: You know, I don't know who you do this show.
- 0:35Speaker 2: We were talking a little bit earlier about wedding plans.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Obviously that's a common question probably for you two. I
- 0:43Speaker 2: was hearing about the Nigerian wedding sounds absolutely amazing. But
- 0:49Speaker 2: I was also looking at a photo shoot the two
- 0:51Speaker 2: of you just recently did with I think it was
- 0:52Speaker 2: called Mudalicha. Is that right that I get the name right, Mundaluchi,
- 0:58Speaker 2: And I want to start with you dotten on that.
- 1:00Speaker 2: You guys, this is such a cool shoot. It really is,
- 1:04Speaker 2: and we were kind of talking about it as you
- 1:05Speaker 2: walked up a little bit ago. But I want to
- 1:07Speaker 2: hear from you why you guys decided to do this
- 1:10Speaker 2: shoot and looking at these pictures now, like what does
- 1:15Speaker 2: this represent to you?
- 1:18Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean the shoot fell into our labs. I
- 1:20Speaker 4: feel like you've probably like explained that.
- 1:22Speaker 5: A little bit.
- 1:23Speaker 3: How we kind of like.
- 1:26Speaker 4: Oh, okay, okay, awesome. Yeah, So I'll start at the
- 1:29Speaker 4: beginning kind of. They emailed us shortly after our Afar
- 1:34Speaker 4: episode and like, let's do it. And then the funny,
- 1:37Speaker 4: you know, whole caveat is like we weren't sure because
- 1:40Speaker 4: we were so new and everything at the time, they
- 1:42Speaker 4: weren't sure if it was real, so we kind of
- 1:43Speaker 4: thought it was a scam, so we kind of left
- 1:46Speaker 4: it ignored, and then eventually, like after like coming back up,
- 1:51Speaker 4: we were like, oh, it's actually a real magazine. And
- 1:53Speaker 4: then we reached our back out to them. They had
- 1:54Speaker 4: reached out to a couple more times to like, hey,
- 1:57Speaker 4: let's do this thing, and then luckily we did some
- 2:00Speaker 4: more research for like, oh no, it's a real thing.
- 2:01Speaker 4: We reached back out to them, and then they just
- 2:03Speaker 4: put together this amazing team for this shoot and like
- 2:05Speaker 4: such a short amount of time and it obviously like
- 2:08Speaker 4: the big thing is it helped celebrate like my heritage,
- 2:11Speaker 4: which was showing a little bit on the episodes, and
- 2:14Speaker 4: you know, I think that's something it's nice to do
- 2:18Speaker 4: something that's tied into that, you know, and adds a
- 2:21Speaker 4: bit of purpose to it. And so that was just
- 2:22Speaker 4: really cool to like be able to have some traditional
- 2:26Speaker 4: and it just came out amazing. The team was unreal
- 2:30Speaker 4: like so talented and from the people that did our
- 2:34Speaker 4: you know, dress up wardrobe, it was just from start
- 2:37Speaker 4: to finish videography, So just such an amazing experience and
- 2:41Speaker 4: just super grateful that that, you know, is an opportunity
- 2:45Speaker 4: we get to have because it's like who are we too?
- 2:47Speaker 4: But like just feeling like really happy that we're you know,
- 2:50Speaker 4: chosen for that, and like everybody is just so happy
- 2:54Speaker 4: with the products.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Where do those photo Where would those photos live now?
- 2:58Speaker 2: At least within your lives?
- 3:00Speaker 6: Well, I hope to get a few of them printed.
- 3:04Speaker 4: Yeah, definitely, they have like online, yeah copy and then
- 3:08Speaker 4: they'll have I think so like pre orders now for
- 3:10Speaker 4: like real copies and then obviously we'll probably have both.
- 3:14Speaker 6: And yeah, the prints aren't going anywhere.
- 3:16Speaker 7: I was like, I was telling him, it's gonna be
- 3:18Speaker 7: hard to talk because I was like everyone basically felt
- 3:21Speaker 7: that photo shoot was us he loping, and so they're like,
- 3:23Speaker 7: oh my god, the wedding photos. But I'm like, no,
- 3:25Speaker 7: our wedding photos have to be just as good, if.
- 3:27Speaker 4: Not that, And the thing that was put together in
- 3:30Speaker 4: like what three weeks a month, you know, like all
- 3:33Speaker 4: getting all that together. So again, that's like a lot
- 3:35Speaker 4: of testaments to that team they were able to do that.
- 3:37Speaker 4: But that was like like that could have been like
- 3:40Speaker 4: a wedding shoot and still been really cool.
- 3:42Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 3:42Speaker 5: So yeah, like again, could have never guessed.
- 3:45Speaker 4: That that's something that I would be involved in personally, right,
- 3:48Speaker 4: I mean, it's.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Wild what happens post show.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's not like you know, I think people
- 3:53Speaker 2: expect that, like there's this flood rush of opportunities and
- 3:56Speaker 2: things and that happens at some level. Yeah, but it
- 3:59Speaker 2: really didn't happened to me, I guess. And there are
- 4:01Speaker 2: some things that really stand out to me. Because what
- 4:04Speaker 2: stood out to me was people actually cared a little bit,
- 4:06Speaker 2: Like they weren't just doing it to like you know,
- 4:09Speaker 2: they saw as an opportunity for to make money. It
- 4:10Speaker 2: was like, no, they cared enough to like take some
- 4:12Speaker 2: time to make this special for me too. Those are
- 4:14Speaker 2: the moments that stand out to me. Now, don we
- 4:17Speaker 2: just talked with Charity about like kind of life since show,
- 4:20Speaker 2: and she you know, doted on you and talked about
- 4:23Speaker 2: how great you know you are. And I don't think
- 4:25Speaker 2: that's any question for anybody. I don't think anybody was
- 4:27Speaker 2: doubting it. I want to ask you kind of the
- 4:29Speaker 2: same question though, when it comes to like the last
- 4:32Speaker 2: you know, year of life, what are some things that
- 4:35Speaker 2: have stood out to you as like pivotal moments obviously
- 4:38Speaker 2: building up to where you're at today, which Charity would
- 4:41Speaker 2: describe as a really like great place as a couple.
- 4:44Speaker 2: So what like what moments have stood out to you
- 4:46Speaker 2: that have separated themselves from this craziness and this chaos
- 4:49Speaker 2: that is the Bachelor.
- 4:53Speaker 4: I mean to start, I would say, like dance some
- 4:56Speaker 4: of the stars, right, if you want to go post Bachelor,
- 4:58Speaker 4: it's still in that world.
- 5:00Speaker 3: But even for you that stood out like even that.
- 5:02Speaker 4: That yeah, that period, that time period, for sure, it
- 5:05Speaker 4: was really the first test us living together before we
- 5:08Speaker 4: even like wanted to live together essentially, you know, because
- 5:11Speaker 4: we're like we can do it soon New Year, when
- 5:13Speaker 4: leases up, but then there was this period that she
- 5:16Speaker 4: was going to be there, and it's like, you know,
- 5:18Speaker 4: felt kind of right to try to do that period
- 5:21Speaker 4: together because I'm sure anybody would want somebody special with them.
- 5:25Speaker 5: During that time.
- 5:28Speaker 3: And I want to pause.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Youve though, how like, I'm sure it is a weird experience.
- 5:32Speaker 2: I never got to do it. Like what was that
- 5:35Speaker 2: like for you as like a spouse or a partner,
- 5:38Speaker 2: I guess, and a spouse that'd probably be like maybe
- 5:41Speaker 2: two steps ahead like a partner, Like what was how
- 5:45Speaker 2: did you view that?
- 5:45Speaker 3: Like what did life look like?
- 5:47Speaker 5: Like?
- 5:47Speaker 2: Would she just come home exhausted and you're just like
- 5:49Speaker 2: there to like try to like calm the storm, or
- 5:51Speaker 2: were you just like trying.
- 5:53Speaker 3: To be there?
- 5:54Speaker 4: Like what what did that look like exactly that I
- 5:57Speaker 4: guess Just yeah, at the end of the day, like
- 5:59Speaker 4: I especially as the season went on, it gets more
- 6:02Speaker 4: grueling and it gets tougher, and you know, she she
- 6:05Speaker 4: had a unique experience in some ways, and so.
- 6:08Speaker 5: That just kind of added to it.
- 6:10Speaker 4: But it's always, yeah, just really just trying to make
- 6:12Speaker 4: sure that you know somebody's there and there was no pressure,
- 6:15Speaker 4: you know that saying there was no pressure no, like
- 6:17Speaker 4: here's what needs to have her done.
- 6:18Speaker 5: There's time.
- 6:19Speaker 4: We're just kind of knew that there's just gonna be
- 6:21Speaker 4: a weird period. We talked about it beforehand and we're like,
- 6:23Speaker 4: we don't know what's going to come from this, but
- 6:25Speaker 4: like obviously it does. Just be relaxed about everything and
- 6:29Speaker 4: just go through this, make it through. And so luckily
- 6:31Speaker 4: with that mindset going into it, I think we were
- 6:33Speaker 4: able to kind of yeah, just like actually grow during
- 6:37Speaker 4: that period. And so like to go back to question,
- 6:40Speaker 4: like that's that's kind of how and why that period
- 6:43Speaker 4: was like pretty pit of it. It was like, I mean,
- 6:45Speaker 4: living together, that's a huge step. Like I don't know
- 6:47Speaker 4: how often that happens and now quickly, but certainly that
- 6:51Speaker 4: so that was a good one that we can do
- 6:53Speaker 4: these things. And you know, people talk about I guess
- 6:56Speaker 4: like they say that that's a really difficult thing to do,
- 6:58Speaker 4: like don't do it, but to do it and then
- 7:01Speaker 4: be okay, it's like okay, like you know, don't put
- 7:04Speaker 4: limits on what you can like you know, be able
- 7:07Speaker 4: to accomplish when you really like you know, try to
- 7:09Speaker 4: put yourself in a good position. Yeah, and that's what
- 7:12Speaker 4: she was able to do with me.
- 7:13Speaker 2: So what a good statement, Like that's like a good quote,
- 7:16Speaker 2: like don't put limits do that?
- 7:19Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 7:20Speaker 4: So yeah, it's like this is how things were supposed
- 7:22Speaker 4: to be. And it's like no, noah, it's like we
- 7:25Speaker 4: say this, but I don't know why people don't. We
- 7:27Speaker 4: don't believe it like we say it, you know. But
- 7:29Speaker 4: like anyways, it's been unique and to see it in
- 7:32Speaker 4: this realm and how it's kind of showing its head
- 7:35Speaker 4: like in this world too, in the same way that
- 7:37Speaker 4: it does everyday life.
- 7:38Speaker 2: So so that Dance with the Stars obviously a big,
- 7:42Speaker 2: you know, pivotal moment.
- 7:43Speaker 3: What else is stood out to you through like last year,
- 7:48Speaker 3: I say.
- 7:49Speaker 7: Like moving in to get like actually moving in because
- 7:51Speaker 7: I mean it's like it was crazy because we had
- 7:53Speaker 7: a like kind of back to back experiences of like
- 7:56Speaker 7: two big moves like Dancing with the Stars.
- 7:58Speaker 6: Yeah, we moved, but it was just like okay, like
- 8:00Speaker 6: for we knew it was like a brief time to yeah.
- 8:03Speaker 7: I was like yeah, yeah, yeah, to make our lives
- 8:05Speaker 7: easier and you be able to be out there to
- 8:07Speaker 7: support me. But like actually truly like moving to New
- 8:10Speaker 7: York and getting settled with that and like him going like, well.
- 8:13Speaker 6: Not going back to work.
- 8:14Speaker 7: You're always working, but you know, it's just like that
- 8:17Speaker 7: was like for me a lot. And I obviously was
- 8:20Speaker 7: a small town girl prior to living in LA so
- 8:23Speaker 7: like moving to a big city like New York City,
- 8:25Speaker 7: I was like in for a shock, and so there's
- 8:27Speaker 7: a little bit of like an adjustment period for me
- 8:29Speaker 7: on top of like still recovering kind of from everything
- 8:33Speaker 7: from the shows.
- 8:34Speaker 5: Back to back shows.
- 8:35Speaker 4: Yeah, definitely, Yeah, your New York naturally is the next
- 8:39Speaker 4: like milestone.
- 8:40Speaker 5: And so it's been interesting how these.
- 8:42Speaker 4: Like not even I wouldn't say it not hurdles, but
- 8:44Speaker 4: these events have happened at these like like really like
- 8:48Speaker 4: feels like consistent timeline in the past year that we
- 8:51Speaker 4: feel like we've kind of like you know, been able
- 8:54Speaker 4: to kind of learn a lot from about each other
- 8:56Speaker 4: and continue to like apply the things that we do
- 9:00Speaker 4: no and you know, therapy, which is we did it
- 9:03Speaker 4: preemptively before, you know, like when there were no issues,
- 9:06Speaker 4: right and not even a matter of if there's issues,
- 9:09Speaker 4: it's just getting in there and talking things out and
- 9:11Speaker 4: having that space. And so that's been super helpful to
- 9:14Speaker 4: like have had that too. And so Yeah, we're like
- 9:17Speaker 4: in a really good place, like she says, in terms
- 9:20Speaker 4: of like I don't know, just feeling very lucky that
- 9:22Speaker 4: there's so much that can go south, you know, and
- 9:25Speaker 4: like to be here, still still in love and like
- 9:28Speaker 4: happy is just feels like a big achievement.
- 9:31Speaker 5: I'm sure for both of us.
- 9:43Speaker 2: I don't want to skip over the therapy part because,
- 9:45Speaker 2: like my wife and I have always done couple's therapy
- 9:48Speaker 2: way before there were issues mostly because of our church,
- 9:51Speaker 2: and some of the mentors within our church kind of
- 9:53Speaker 2: had like guided us on, like hey, you know this
- 9:56Speaker 2: is this is what we did, and so we just said, well,
- 9:58Speaker 2: I trust you will do it. But it's been incredible
- 10:01Speaker 2: for us, you know. It's like, uh, I feel like
- 10:06Speaker 2: it keeps us one step ahead of where we could become. Really,
- 10:09Speaker 2: but for you two, why did you decide to do
- 10:12Speaker 2: Like where did that come from? Because you say it
- 10:14Speaker 2: and I I hear it, and I want to make
- 10:17Speaker 2: it something that people are like, no, we should just
- 10:19Speaker 2: do it. It's like it's a great access point, it's
- 10:21Speaker 2: a great place to check in. It's just a good
- 10:23Speaker 2: place to have a third party to cure you out
- 10:26Speaker 2: when I'm feeling crazier. When she's feeling crazier, I'm feeling
- 10:28Speaker 2: like she's crazy. Yeah, but why did you guys decide
- 10:32Speaker 2: to do that?
- 10:33Speaker 6: Yeah? I think like for the both of us.
- 10:36Speaker 7: Obviously, like he works in like functional health, and then
- 10:38Speaker 7: obviously before the show, I was doing therapy myself. So
- 10:41Speaker 7: I think us just kind of both hunt having that
- 10:44Speaker 7: mindset of like we're going to be proactive, take care
- 10:46Speaker 7: of things and be like, you know, do things ahead
- 10:49Speaker 7: of time. But also I think I remember asking if
- 10:52Speaker 7: not on this show, probably like right after we got engaged,
- 10:55Speaker 7: Like I asked him like I'm just a believer in therapy,
- 10:58Speaker 7: like I'm in its, like I was in it myself.
- 11:00Speaker 7: So I remember asking him, I'm like, have you ever
- 11:02Speaker 7: done therapy? Like are you open to it? Because I
- 11:04Speaker 7: understand like a lot of people haven't. And it's also
- 11:06Speaker 7: like that conversation. Yeah, it's like a conversation that you
- 11:10Speaker 7: know sometimes people are like opposed to having or it's
- 11:13Speaker 7: just like a very like you know, you're kind of
- 11:15Speaker 7: walking on ex SHOs to kind of feel how people
- 11:17Speaker 7: are about it. But he like opened up a lot
- 11:20Speaker 7: about just like his past and you know, how he
- 11:23Speaker 7: felt about therapy. And so I was like, I absolutely
- 11:25Speaker 7: like want to like also encourage that we like do
- 11:27Speaker 7: this together too, Like I think it'll be really helpful
- 11:30Speaker 7: for our relationship. And so obviously, luckily and thankfully the
- 11:34Speaker 7: show provided it for us. So we took advantage of
- 11:36Speaker 7: it because why not, Like, if it's offered to us,
- 11:38Speaker 7: why are we not doing it type of thing? Like
- 11:40Speaker 7: I don't feel like I'm greater than anything that's going
- 11:43Speaker 7: to happen in life, and I feel like we both
- 11:45Speaker 7: have that like perspective on it. So yeah, I mean
- 11:49Speaker 7: we just took advantage of it, and luckily we got we
- 11:52Speaker 7: had to shop around a little bit for a good therapist,
- 11:54Speaker 7: but luckily we mastered with a really good one and
- 11:57Speaker 7: we've been with him since and it's truly been phenomen No.
- 12:00Speaker 7: I think it's helped about things that we didn't even
- 12:03Speaker 7: think was a thing or like a problem, and we've
- 12:06Speaker 7: just learned to navigated that. We've used a lot of
- 12:08Speaker 7: the stuff that we've learned to tackle certain things. So yeah,
- 12:12Speaker 7: it's just it's a win for anyone and everyone.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Yeah, this show did that, was that one of the
- 12:17Speaker 2: things you were pushing.
- 12:18Speaker 7: For, Like I didn't have to push for that, but
- 12:21Speaker 7: I did push for it to be like, you know,
- 12:23Speaker 7: can we more like why are we like stopping it
- 12:25Speaker 7: off at like four months?
- 12:26Speaker 6: Like we should be.
- 12:27Speaker 7: Like, let's get help couples get to a certain point.
- 12:29Speaker 7: If not, try to like you know, extend it as
- 12:32Speaker 7: much as possible. And so yeah, I definitely advocated for
- 12:35Speaker 7: as much therapy as possible for for us.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Now the two of you obviously are sitting in a
- 12:42Speaker 2: place where are you a year.
- 12:44Speaker 6: Fully a year removed a year and some months.
- 12:47Speaker 2: From like the actual final like before the filming ended,
- 12:50Speaker 2: but like actual final.
- 12:51Speaker 5: Yes, it's a huge deal.
- 12:52Speaker 3: And I don't want to like just say that and
- 12:55Speaker 3: like flash over.
- 12:55Speaker 2: It's it's just exciting to see, you know, the two
- 12:58Speaker 2: of you sitting here a year or later from your
- 13:00Speaker 2: AFR announcement, knowing the year that you guys have spent together.
- 13:06Speaker 2: And I'm sure if you like went down and wrote
- 13:08Speaker 2: down all the stuff that's like happened in the last year,
- 13:10Speaker 2: it would feel.
- 13:10Speaker 3: Longer than yeah in a lot of ways.
- 13:13Speaker 2: But it's incredible to see the two of you sitting
- 13:15Speaker 2: here like you are today, knowing that you've gone through
- 13:17Speaker 2: some like tough moments, maybe not just as a couple,
- 13:20Speaker 2: but just in general life. And you've made it through.
- 13:23Speaker 2: So obviously we talked about the wedding stuff. We don't
- 13:25Speaker 2: have to dive into that much more. But as you
- 13:28Speaker 2: guys look at the future, what kind of things are
- 13:30Speaker 2: you excited about? What things are keeping you guys fired up?
- 13:35Speaker 4: I mean, one thing is like, obviously it's like marriage
- 13:40Speaker 4: will come and then kids.
- 13:40Speaker 5: I guess it's like, you know, in somewhat of that order,
- 13:43Speaker 5: but we both.
- 13:45Speaker 4: Always feel like being a parent or something that we
- 13:48Speaker 4: want to do, and so that's certainly something that we
- 13:49Speaker 4: look forward to, right Like to have a partner that
- 13:52Speaker 4: you feel comfortable with, that you know, even even before
- 13:54Speaker 4: like you are married, is nice, you know, and that's
- 13:57Speaker 4: a really cool bonus. And so I think that's definitely
- 14:00Speaker 4: one of the things that that sticks out.
- 14:02Speaker 5: Not that we're looking for that writing like.
- 14:09Speaker 4: Wild to make that clear, but like, you know, it's
- 14:12Speaker 4: cool to like at least feel very comfortable then when
- 14:16Speaker 4: the time comes, it'll be good.
- 14:17Speaker 5: And so I know that's one of the more serious things.
- 14:19Speaker 7: Yeah, but it's something like just like experience, like I
- 14:22Speaker 7: think just experiencing life. We've also like, yes, things like
- 14:26Speaker 7: post show, but like just also like finding things that
- 14:29Speaker 7: we both like that's not related to this show and
- 14:32Speaker 7: like diving into that, like traveling a lot more, experiencing
- 14:36Speaker 7: all these things together and like for me, like that's
- 14:38Speaker 7: just something again like you said, it's exciting when it's
- 14:41Speaker 7: just like Okay, I don't mind, or like I want
- 14:43Speaker 7: to do these Like I love doing this with this
- 14:45Speaker 7: person and it makes it just so much more fun.
- 14:47Speaker 7: So obviously like we can talk about work and like
- 14:50Speaker 7: creer things, but like that's just a given, I think almost,
- 14:54Speaker 7: But when you look at our relationship together and what
- 14:58Speaker 7: we want from each other, just like I said, just
- 15:01Speaker 7: experiencing life and being happy and being in a good
