- 0:08Speaker 1: All the Orioles have been waiting to get some runs,
- 0:10Speaker 1: so have their fans, and they finally did today in Arlington, Texas.
- 0:14Speaker 1: After scoring eleven runs the last seven games going two
- 0:17Speaker 1: and five, Bird's broke out with ten today in Arlington,
- 0:20Speaker 1: Texas and beat the Rangers ten to five. Welcome in everybody,
- 0:23Speaker 1: another edition of Birdland Territory Steve, Tim and Bragg. Quick
- 0:27Speaker 1: reminder before we get into the today's game, and a
- 0:29Speaker 1: bunch of other notes we've got planned for you in
- 0:30Speaker 1: this show.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Our next show will be a mail.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Bag edition where we take your comments, your questions. Send
- 0:38Speaker 1: it to Birdland Territory Twitter, send it to Tim and
- 0:42Speaker 1: I via our twitters for our outlets. You can send
- 0:46Speaker 1: it obviously on YouTube right here you're watching YouTube, you
- 0:49Speaker 1: can put a comment in and say here's a question
- 0:52Speaker 1: for your next show as we will take some of
- 0:55Speaker 1: viewer questions coming up very soon on Birdland Territory. So, guys,
- 1:01Speaker 1: Pete Alonzo's first multi homer Oriole game today. He was
- 1:05Speaker 1: on base five times, three HiT's two walks. Pretty good
- 1:08Speaker 1: four homers. The Oils only have five games this year
- 1:11Speaker 1: where they've hitched four and more. I'm not sure what
- 1:13Speaker 1: caused the breakout today. I'm just glad it came. What
- 1:16Speaker 1: did you guys see?
- 1:17Speaker 3: Yeah, I agree with you, Steve. This is it's just
- 1:19Speaker 3: kind of one of those games. Do you expect to
- 1:22Speaker 3: see a lot more of this season? I feel like
- 1:23Speaker 3: it's it's almost shocking that we have to talk about
- 1:26Speaker 3: the offense having games like this, because you just figured
- 1:29Speaker 3: this would be the type of games we'd see all year,
- 1:31Speaker 3: a lot of homers, a lot of double digit run scoring.
- 1:34Speaker 3: But it was good to see it. It's a good
- 1:36Speaker 3: time to see right before the Minnesota series. Obviously the
- 1:39Speaker 3: pitching was good enough to hopefully win this series in Texas,
- 1:43Speaker 3: but you know, you got to take the one out
- 1:45Speaker 3: of three and just kind of move forward. And Pete
- 1:47Speaker 3: kind of said it after the game, it's just we
- 1:49Speaker 3: control our own destiny. We're going to face a lot
- 1:51Speaker 3: of good teams. There's no reason to.
- 1:53Speaker 4: Get down about it all.
- 1:53Speaker 3: We obviously want to perform a little bit better on
- 1:55Speaker 3: the offensive side of things, but moving forward, they control
- 1:58Speaker 3: who they're going to play or they control their and
- 2:00Speaker 3: you just got to win ball games. And you hope
- 2:02Speaker 3: that this is kind of a precursor or an omen
- 2:05Speaker 3: cut type game that we'll get to see this a
- 2:07Speaker 3: little bit more of the offense moving forward.
- 2:09Speaker 5: Yeah, those first two games of the series really really
- 2:12Speaker 5: frustrating and ugly performances for the offense. But this was
- 2:16Speaker 5: a series. Obviously you didn't want to lose this series,
- 2:19Speaker 5: but you really couldn't afford to get swept because if
- 2:22Speaker 5: you got swept, your four games behind the Rangers. Now,
- 2:25Speaker 5: by salvaging this series finale, you're only two games out,
- 2:28Speaker 5: so you're still within arm's length of them. But give
- 2:31Speaker 5: credit to Pete Alonso, man first multi home run game
- 2:34Speaker 5: as an oriole and Pete, like a lot of guys,
- 2:38Speaker 5: has really struggled in the month of August, so to
- 2:41Speaker 5: see him really break out, great sign. To see the
- 2:44Speaker 5: bottom of the lineup have a monster game, really great sign.
- 2:48Speaker 6: Leodi Taveras had a couple of hits.
- 2:50Speaker 5: Kobe Mayo, who quietly steve we always go back to
- 2:53Speaker 5: that June twenty second date when looking at the offense.
- 2:57Speaker 5: Not a lot of offensive standouts for the Orioles since
- 3:00Speaker 5: June twenty second. Kobe Mayo, Tyler O'Neill, both of them
- 3:04Speaker 5: certainly have been standouts in that stretch, and Colton Kowser
- 3:07Speaker 5: after getting a double last night, having a multi hit
- 3:10Speaker 5: game tonight. It was a very encouraging game to see
- 3:14Speaker 5: from this offense. But now you gotta stack it, man,
- 3:17Speaker 5: can't You can't go back to what you were in
- 3:20Speaker 5: the past couple of days, especially tomorrow against Dean Kramer.
- 3:26Speaker 2: You know it's ironic, and that's stat.
- 3:27Speaker 1: We've been constantly quoting series where they scored thirteen runs
- 3:32Speaker 1: or least.
- 3:32Speaker 2: This was another one. He'll score twelve runs.
- 3:35Speaker 1: This series when you add up the first two games
- 3:37Speaker 1: and they get ten. But you feel so much better,
- 3:40Speaker 1: I think in Oriel fans leaving this series to see
- 3:43Speaker 1: the breakout and hope it can continue. We'll get into
- 3:46Speaker 1: the fact they're gonna face old friend Dean Kramer tomorrow
- 3:48Speaker 1: night in Minnesota target Field and Colton Kowser today. Here's
- 3:53Speaker 1: the interesting thing, man, It has been a minute for
- 3:55Speaker 1: the home run. He went thirty five games without a homer.
- 3:59Speaker 1: That goes to the Rogers Stadium un till he connected today.
- 4:02Speaker 2: But when he hits it, they stay hit.
- 4:05Speaker 1: According to MLB dot Com, this blast today by Cawser
- 4:09Speaker 1: was his third longest homer, four hundred and forty one
- 4:13Speaker 1: feet of the forty nine he's hit in his career,
- 4:16Speaker 1: the fifthies hit this year for twenty four plus. I
- 4:20Speaker 1: just wish Brad he could make more consistent contact. I
- 4:23Speaker 1: know he does too. Yeah, you never end that search
- 4:26Speaker 1: for that, It'll be ongoing. But he shows these glimpses
- 4:30Speaker 1: of the pop man, and it's prodigious when he does Yeah.
- 4:33Speaker 3: And I think that's what I mean oil fans have
- 4:35Speaker 3: seen since he's been up in the big league team,
- 4:37Speaker 3: is that this power is there. It's just about making
- 4:40Speaker 3: more consistent contact. And like you said, he wants to
- 4:43Speaker 3: do that more consistently, but it's really hard to kind
- 4:45Speaker 3: of do that with your swing. And I think he's
- 4:48Speaker 3: doing the best he can with his swing right now
- 4:50Speaker 3: and trying to figure some things out, and he's made
- 4:52Speaker 3: some adjustments throughout the year. But man, you're right, you
- 4:55Speaker 3: would just love to see a little bit more contact
- 4:57Speaker 3: because when he hits it, those balls shoot in the
- 4:59Speaker 3: gap over the fence in a heartbeat, and it's really
- 5:02Speaker 3: nice to see when he does it. When he stays
- 5:04Speaker 3: down through the baseball. Today he got to cut her
- 5:06Speaker 3: out over the plate and gosh, when he hits it,
- 5:09Speaker 3: it's I feel like every single one of his home
- 5:10Speaker 3: runs is four hundred feet plus anytime he makes that
- 5:13Speaker 3: solid contact. So that's definitely one of the things you'd
- 5:15Speaker 3: like to see here more. And I mean, I just
- 5:17Speaker 3: I have to believe he's going to get more consistent
- 5:20Speaker 3: at bats and that can only help him this season.
- 5:22Speaker 3: And I think when he starts facing lefties more consistently,
- 5:25Speaker 3: which was kind of nice today that Rocker got taken
- 5:28Speaker 3: out of that game so early because he got the
- 5:30Speaker 3: face of the lefty Montgomery when he came in. And
- 5:32Speaker 3: I think when you're able to face same same arm
- 5:35Speaker 3: side guys, I really think it helps your confidence more
- 5:38Speaker 3: than anything else. And then obviously recognizing more pitches from
- 5:40Speaker 3: the left side. But I think that was a kind
- 5:43Speaker 3: of a good thing for him to get to some
- 5:44Speaker 3: of the at bats against lefties and not get taken
- 5:46Speaker 3: out right away like they've done most of the season.
- 5:48Speaker 3: But you're right, Steve, if he could just find a
- 5:51Speaker 3: way to make a little bit more contact, we'd be
- 5:53Speaker 3: seeing fifteen plus twenty plus home run season from him
- 5:56Speaker 3: every single season.
- 5:56Speaker 5: I feel like, yeah, you guys use the word that
- 5:59Speaker 5: cansistency with Colton Kowser, it's just throughout his first three
- 6:04Speaker 5: full big league seasons, even going back to his rookie
- 6:08Speaker 5: year in twenty twenty four, when he finished second in
- 6:10Speaker 5: Rookie of the Year voting. He's such a streaky player, guys.
- 6:13Speaker 5: And you can even look at this year. I believe
- 6:16Speaker 5: it was his month of May get NOPs nearly nine hundred.
- 6:20Speaker 5: Like you're looking for anyone right now in this Orioles
- 6:24Speaker 5: lineup to go on a hot streak. And I get it,
- 6:27Speaker 5: it's just two games, but you're hoping the double last night,
- 6:30Speaker 5: the multi hit games that the hit against the left
- 6:33Speaker 5: handed pitcher today that you reference Brad. If Kowser can
- 6:36Speaker 5: go on one of his patented Keeters man like that,
- 6:40Speaker 5: that would be a much, much, much needed development for
- 6:43Speaker 5: this offense which has been lacking that punch.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Yeah, coming into today had been five for his last
- 6:49Speaker 1: twenty six with twelve strikeouts, So it looked like those
- 6:52Speaker 1: lean days. I can see why this kid was a
- 6:55Speaker 1: fifth pick in the draft. The tools when they're on
- 6:59Speaker 1: are last. The power, he's got a good arm, he's
- 7:03Speaker 1: a plus runner. He can go first to third, second
- 7:06Speaker 1: to home, he can steal your bag. It's just a
- 7:09Speaker 1: lot he can do. And for me, when they're a
- 7:12Speaker 1: young player with those tantalizing skills, you don't give up
- 7:16Speaker 1: on that.
- 7:16Speaker 2: And the aros clearly or not.
- 7:18Speaker 1: I think some fans are down on them, understandably so,
- 7:20Speaker 1: but the organization made him the one five pick for
- 7:23Speaker 1: a reason.
- 7:24Speaker 3: Yeah, And like you said, see those tools, when they're flashed,
- 7:27Speaker 3: they're loud, and that's the reason why you get taken
- 7:29Speaker 3: so high in the draft.
- 7:31Speaker 4: And the other part of it also too, is when
- 7:33Speaker 4: he hits home runs, it just feels like.
- 7:35Speaker 3: A different reaction in the dugout than other guys on
- 7:37Speaker 3: the team. You can tell that guys really care about
- 7:40Speaker 3: cold and he cares about other guys, and it shows
- 7:42Speaker 3: when he has success. There's just a different celebration in
- 7:46Speaker 3: the dugout. And I love seeing that as being a
- 7:48Speaker 3: former player, just kind of guys that really teammates that
- 7:52Speaker 3: guys want to see do well, and he is definitely that.
- 7:54Speaker 4: And I feel like like you're referencing that hot streak.
- 7:56Speaker 3: If he's able to get hot, he could supplement this
- 7:59Speaker 3: all for a week, two week, three weeks at a time.
- 8:02Speaker 3: And I mean, what better time than for it to
- 8:04Speaker 3: happen right now when they really really need somebody to
- 8:06Speaker 3: just kind of step up, and I.
- 8:08Speaker 5: Think something that we talked a lot about with Blaze Alexander,
- 8:12Speaker 5: and there was always that debate, Okay, should you leave,
- 8:16Speaker 5: you know, bump him up in the lineup, do you
- 8:18Speaker 5: tinker with him at leadoff? But Craig Albernas was steadfast
- 8:21Speaker 5: in the fact, hey you bat him eight or nine.
- 8:23Speaker 5: This is someone that's really going to turn the lineup over.
- 8:26Speaker 5: And that's what Colden Cowser can do in this opportunity
- 8:30Speaker 5: now because he's going to be batting in the bottom
- 8:32Speaker 5: third of the lineup. He's someone with legit thump and
- 8:35Speaker 5: if he can just get into this hot streak again,
- 8:39Speaker 5: that can help turn the lineup over. And that's something
- 8:41Speaker 5: that they've sorely missed since Blaze Alexander went down with
- 8:44Speaker 5: that injury.
- 8:46Speaker 2: So the Oils get this victory.
- 8:48Speaker 1: They are fifty seven and sixty one, they ended a
- 8:51Speaker 1: three game losing streak and now it's onto Minnesota and
- 8:55Speaker 1: the tim as you mentioned a big difference in the
- 8:57Speaker 1: swing here he went. It started this series one back
- 9:00Speaker 1: of the wild Card would have been four with a loss.
- 9:03Speaker 1: One is two with a win, so that's more palatable
- 9:06Speaker 1: and every time you want to throw the dirt on it,
- 9:10Speaker 1: the Orioles do enough to stay in it, and they
- 9:12Speaker 1: did it again today. Let's talk about this quote that
- 9:16Speaker 1: we saw earlier this week, which was quite interesting. I
- 9:19Speaker 1: thought the owner of the Orioles, David Rubinstein, was speaking
- 9:23Speaker 1: at American University Monday night, and one of the many
- 9:26Speaker 1: quotes he made, and I believe he's promoting his book here,
- 9:30Speaker 1: we tripled salaries, but felt the last place. It's frustrating.
- 9:34Speaker 1: I'm really embarrassed about it, but I'm trying to do
- 9:36Speaker 1: what I.
- 9:37Speaker 2: Can to fix it.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Two quick notes, they haven't actually tripled salaries, haven't quite
- 9:44Speaker 1: gone that far close close, and they're not in the
- 9:47Speaker 1: last place close. So those two are a little off.
- 9:50Speaker 1: But I get the point. And I'm gonna say what
- 9:53Speaker 1: I had to say on this. I want to hear
- 9:55Speaker 1: your guys' thoughts on the Rubinstein quote.
- 9:59Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's definitely interesting, to say the least. I
- 10:03Speaker 3: think it's It shows this frustration, and I think he's
- 10:06Speaker 3: used to somebody that's being so successful in his previous career.
- 10:09Speaker 3: You figure you throw some money at the problem. Him
- 10:12Speaker 3: being a money guy. It kind of it goes the
- 10:14Speaker 3: other way and things just get better and all that
- 10:16Speaker 3: kind of stuff. And I think it's just kind of
- 10:17Speaker 3: realizing that baseball isn't a you know, you throw three
- 10:21Speaker 3: times the amount of money or whatever the amount is
- 10:23Speaker 3: towards the problem, it doesn't necessarily fix it. So I
- 10:26Speaker 3: think that kind of brings him back to maybe a
- 10:28Speaker 3: new process they go through where maybe he's a little
- 10:31Speaker 3: bit more involved with Michaelias or has a little bit
- 10:33Speaker 3: more of a say on what goes on or what
- 10:35Speaker 3: they need to add. And I just think he's learning
- 10:37Speaker 3: the game of baseball, which it's a it's a tricky thing.
- 10:40Speaker 3: Everybody wants to point to the Dodgers, where all they
- 10:42Speaker 3: had the highest salary but invite and on the other
- 10:45Speaker 3: end of the spectrum is the Mets. They put all
- 10:47Speaker 3: this money and look at them. They're in the last
- 10:48Speaker 3: place in the East. So it's it's just baseball is
- 10:51Speaker 3: a fickle, fickle beast. And I think it's I think
- 10:53Speaker 3: he's just maybe understanding the business side of the things,
- 10:55Speaker 3: and I hope it doesn't discourage him from putting more
- 10:59Speaker 3: money towards his team, because the fans really deserve that,
- 11:01Speaker 3: and I think he wants to have a winner. I
- 11:03Speaker 3: think in his quot he mentions he hopes when his
- 11:05Speaker 3: obituary is done at the end of his life, he
- 11:07Speaker 3: wants to have World Series winner on there, not just
- 11:09Speaker 3: you know, from his previous business ventures. But I just
- 11:13Speaker 3: hope that he really just maybe goes about the process
- 11:16Speaker 3: differently and doesn't just say I'm not going to put
- 11:18Speaker 3: any more money towards this team, which I don't think
- 11:20Speaker 3: that will be the case.
- 11:23Speaker 5: I'll say this, I'm glad he said it. I want
- 11:27Speaker 5: my owner to say that, you know. And look, I
- 11:30Speaker 5: think the fan base got upset at David Rubinstein from
- 11:35Speaker 5: his comments going back to Kyle Bradish's contract extension press
- 11:39Speaker 5: conference where he said that he couldn't be more pleased
- 11:42Speaker 5: with Michael Ias.
- 11:43Speaker 6: Now, I think two things can be true here.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Right.
- 11:46Speaker 5: If you were expecting the owner to take a shot
- 11:49Speaker 5: at Michael Olias when he's within arm's length of him
- 11:53Speaker 5: at the podium, I just think you're sadly mistaken.
- 11:56Speaker 6: Now, do I think maybe it went a little too
- 12:00Speaker 6: above and.
- 12:00Speaker 5: Beyond heaping praise? I can I can grant you that
- 12:04Speaker 5: as well. But look, there's no denying that these past
- 12:07Speaker 5: couple of years, think about it, from David Rubinstein's perspective,
- 12:11Speaker 5: and maybe this is somewhat disillusion but maybe not. Guys,
- 12:15Speaker 5: when he bought the team and he was introduced as
- 12:19Speaker 5: owner and Steve, I know you were there.
- 12:21Speaker 2: I was there.
- 12:21Speaker 6: It was opening day twenty twenty four.
- 12:24Speaker 5: Gosh, that couldn't have been a more perfect time to
- 12:27Speaker 5: buy this franchise, right because this team was ascending. They're
- 12:32Speaker 5: coming off a one hundred and one win season in
- 12:34Speaker 5: twenty twenty three. They have all these hot young players.
- 12:38Speaker 5: They have no payroll because all of these guys are
- 12:41Speaker 5: under club control. Oh and by the way, you get
- 12:44Speaker 5: six hundred million dollars to fix up Camden Yards, which
- 12:47Speaker 5: is already a Crown Droll stadium. So to go backwards,
- 12:53Speaker 5: you know, since acquiring the Orioles in twenty twenty four,
- 12:58Speaker 5: it is embarrassing.
- 12:59Speaker 6: It is It is tough. There's no way around that.
- 13:02Speaker 2: You know.
- 13:02Speaker 5: The Orioles went in with playoff expectations in twenty twenty five.
- 13:06Speaker 6: They fell short.
- 13:07Speaker 5: They fired Brandon Hyde prior to Memorial Day in twenty
- 13:11Speaker 5: twenty five.
- 13:12Speaker 6: Brandon High was the manager of the Year in twenty
- 13:14Speaker 6: twenty three.
- 13:15Speaker 5: He didn't even make two full seasons after that and
- 13:19Speaker 5: to now selling again.
- 13:21Speaker 6: Yeah, it's upsetting.
- 13:22Speaker 5: And I think if the owner of the team that
- 13:26Speaker 5: you root for, you want them to want to win,
- 13:30Speaker 5: you want them to take ownership over the product. And
- 13:34Speaker 5: I think it's refreshing that he said that, quite frankly.
- 13:40Speaker 4: For me.
- 13:40Speaker 2: Here's my thoughts.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Is he embarrassed with his ownership performance, or is he
- 13:49Speaker 1: embarrassed with the front office, or is he embarrassed with
- 13:53Speaker 1: the clubhouse or is he embarrassed with all three? That's
- 13:56Speaker 1: what I don't know when I read that quote, because
- 13:59Speaker 1: if he's embarrass by Michael Lias and the players, I
- 14:03Speaker 1: question him publicly saying that the owner of the team, you.
- 14:07Speaker 7: Guys have let me down. I spent all the money,
- 14:10Speaker 7: I did my job, and look what you're doing. So
- 14:13Speaker 7: I think that will be that quote will be read
- 14:17Speaker 7: very differently.
- 14:19Speaker 1: In different circles. Yeah, and so that's what the first
- 14:23Speaker 1: thought I had. The second thought I had was he
- 14:26Speaker 1: skipped a step. This guy's been saying everything's rosy, and
- 14:29Speaker 1: now you're embarrassed.
- 14:32Speaker 4: From zero to sixty pretty fast.
- 14:34Speaker 1: And here's the third thing I think, as I'm being
- 14:36Speaker 1: critical of the owner of the Orioles, I wish he
- 14:40Speaker 1: would make those comments to Oriole media that we wouldn't
- 14:43Speaker 1: have to pull it out of an appearance in American University.
- 14:47Speaker 1: And as a media guy, I selfishly wish the owner
- 14:49Speaker 1: of the Orioles would talk maybe twice a year spring training,
- 14:53Speaker 1: gather all the guys talk and the gals end of
- 14:57Speaker 1: year or mid what however you want to handle it
- 15:00Speaker 1: at the end of the season, and it doesn't have
- 15:02Speaker 1: to be with Elias next year, why can't the owner
- 15:04Speaker 1: sit up there by himself and take it on from
- 15:07Speaker 1: Baltimore cameras and reporters. And if you if you only
- 15:10Speaker 1: have to do that twice a year, you're getting off
- 15:12Speaker 1: pretty good because players and coaches and managers have to
- 15:15Speaker 1: do it every day of the year. So that's what
- 15:18Speaker 1: I wish, But I'd like you, Tim, I agree it's
- 15:20Speaker 1: okay to be critical. Their performance has been poor, embarrassing.
- 15:25Speaker 1: I have a hard time calling the team I love embarrassing.
- 15:28Speaker 1: That's just me as a fan. I have fans tell
- 15:31Speaker 1: me that every day, and I love Towson University. I
- 15:35Speaker 1: would never publicly say Towson University basketball embarrass me today.
- 15:40Speaker 2: I can't have it in me to do that.
- 15:42Speaker 1: I might say it to my friend at the bar,
- 15:45Speaker 1: or I might say it on the phone to someone
- 15:47Speaker 1: I'm close with about Towson Man, I was embarrassing loss
- 15:50Speaker 1: today and so and so, but I would I wouldn't
- 15:52Speaker 1: say it about the art.
- 15:53Speaker 2: That's just me.
- 15:54Speaker 1: But he's the owner and he can own and sell,
- 15:56Speaker 1: even buy all this twenty times over. So it was
- 15:59Speaker 1: your's interesting. I'm not quite sure how to read all
- 16:04Speaker 1: this now. I don't know if maybe you guys should
- 16:08Speaker 1: disagree with this. I don't think it will have much
- 16:10Speaker 1: impact on the One Lost record, but we'll see how
- 16:14Speaker 1: that plays out too.
- 16:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I think you're saying see, but I think it's
- 16:19Speaker 3: it's hard to take like a little snippet quote and
- 16:22Speaker 3: like what does that like? What is that associated too?
- 16:25Speaker 3: I don't think it's like direct. It's hard to know
- 16:27Speaker 3: who it's directed at. And I don't know, like, I
- 16:30Speaker 3: don't think it's gonna affect the players, like if they
- 16:31Speaker 3: saw the quote, I can't imagine them being like offended
- 16:34Speaker 3: by the owner saying something like that. It's just I
- 16:38Speaker 3: don't know. It's a weird time for it to come out,
- 16:40Speaker 3: especially after the trade deadline and all this. It has
- 16:43Speaker 3: just gone down, maybe you know, like it's just kind
- 16:45Speaker 3: of all all these emotions and everything are being riled
- 16:48Speaker 3: up after this last week, and it's just like, I
- 16:52Speaker 3: don't know. I guess the only way I can. It's
- 16:53Speaker 3: kind of weird timing. I guess it's just.
- 16:55Speaker 4: Hard to know.
- 16:56Speaker 3: I think we're gonna have more of an understanding after
- 16:59Speaker 3: this whole offseasons figured out, with the lockout and everything
- 17:01Speaker 3: and where they're going to go with this team directionally,
- 17:04Speaker 3: and I just think maybe we'll have more of an
- 17:06Speaker 3: understanding of what he actually meant by that. Maybe that's
- 17:08Speaker 3: the only thing I can think of right now at
- 17:10Speaker 3: this point.
- 17:11Speaker 6: And Steve, I think he made so many great points.
- 17:14Speaker 5: But one of those things that stuck out to me
- 17:17Speaker 5: that I agree wholeheartedly with I think David Rubinstein one
- 17:22Speaker 5: way or another, and that this is assuming the team
- 17:25Speaker 5: does not make the playoffs. If they don't make the playoffs,
- 17:28Speaker 5: David Rubinstein needs to talk one way or another, because
- 17:33Speaker 5: if Michaelias is here, he needs to be up there
- 17:37Speaker 5: by himself. Explain your decision, why do you believe that
- 17:40Speaker 5: he is the right man to lead you out of this?
- 17:43Speaker 5: Or if mich Elias ends up losing his job. Then
- 17:47Speaker 5: the owner needs to talk either way. David Rubinstein, if
- 17:52Speaker 5: this team falls short of playing games in October, needs
- 17:56Speaker 5: to take questions from the Baltimore media in a press
- 17:59Speaker 5: con setting, not with players, not not with Mike there,
- 18:03Speaker 5: not with any of that. I think it needs to happen.
- 18:06Speaker 5: And you know, even going back to the Kyle bradish
- 18:09Speaker 5: uh presser and look, it was a question that need
- 18:13Speaker 5: to be needed to be asked, but again it's still
- 18:16Speaker 5: a weird forum to do it because you don't necessarily
- 18:19Speaker 5: want to take it away from Kyle bradish and the
- 18:23Speaker 5: moment is about him and not about Mike. But to
- 18:27Speaker 5: your point, Steve, we don't know when we're gonna hear
- 18:29Speaker 5: from Rubinstein again, so it certainly was a valid question
- 18:33Speaker 5: to ask. It just kind of puts the media in
- 18:36Speaker 5: a little bit of a tough spot.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Mm hmm. Yeah.
- 18:39Speaker 1: I think a lot of fans are going to read
- 18:40Speaker 1: that quote as that was directed to Michael Elias, But
- 18:44Speaker 1: I don't think it was. I think everything everything, He's
- 18:50Speaker 1: not single point pointing any.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Any aspect out.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe he actually did mean I'm embarrassed you know
- 18:56Speaker 1: that we we collected, we have done, have.
- 18:59Speaker 2: Done this and.
- 19:02Speaker 1: It's just hard to read into that quote. But he
- 19:06Speaker 1: you know, it's certainly different than what we've been hearing
- 19:08Speaker 1: him say to this point.
- 19:12Speaker 2: So let's make an abrupt.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Shift here, prospects nice who've been here three days rather
- 19:20Speaker 1: than you know, the whole season we've been touching on.
- 19:24Speaker 1: And uh, this kid Anthony Ija said he threw a
- 19:26Speaker 1: good game last night. I was watching at on the
- 19:29Speaker 1: internet de Bay Chesapeake Bayseks broadcast Andre mcgaro and his guys.
- 19:34Speaker 2: Uh at double A.
- 19:36Speaker 1: I answered, last night two runs over five innings, he
- 19:38Speaker 1: fanned nine. He showed mid nineties. He showed me really
- 19:42Speaker 1: plus breaking pitches. And let's take a look here, and Brad,
- 19:45Speaker 1: you can give a few thoughts if you like. He Yeah,
- 19:49Speaker 1: let's find some highlights on this kid who who throw
- 19:52Speaker 1: showed three plus pitches last night.
- 19:55Speaker 2: In that game.
- 19:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean watching these highlights, you just show us
- 19:58Speaker 3: right for the show. It's it's a good fact, you know,
- 20:00Speaker 3: like you hear about his breaking balls and everything. But
- 20:03Speaker 3: obviously as it started, you have to throw fastball. So
- 20:05Speaker 3: frowed a good one there and then these two breaking
- 20:07Speaker 3: balls he throws. These next two clips, I mean they
- 20:10Speaker 3: are plus plus breaking balls. You can just tell by
- 20:13Speaker 3: the swings the guys are taking. You can tell by
- 20:15Speaker 3: the movement. That doesn't matter if it's Double A, Triple A,
- 20:17Speaker 3: big league. Those are swinging miss pitches. Obviously the big
- 20:21Speaker 3: league level maybe have to, you know, tinker around the
- 20:24Speaker 3: zone a little bit more than where they're at. But
- 20:26Speaker 3: I mean those are quality, quality breaking balls, and that's
- 20:29Speaker 3: that's what you want to see with the guy you
- 20:30Speaker 3: just traded, you know, the face of the franchise for.
- 20:33Speaker 4: That's the kind of stuff you're looking to see.
- 20:35Speaker 3: And impressive in those three clips, I know, little snippets there,
- 20:39Speaker 3: but we're gonna get see him a little bit more
- 20:40Speaker 3: as the season moves along. And Ben McDonald raved about
- 20:43Speaker 3: him on the broadcast again today. I've heard him before
- 20:47Speaker 3: say it, but he's just saying he thinks there's a
- 20:48Speaker 3: shot this guy could break with the team next year.
- 20:50Speaker 3: He's that polished and he feels like he's that close.
- 20:53Speaker 3: So it's it won't be a matter of time. I
- 20:56Speaker 3: feel like before he might be gets a crack at
- 20:57Speaker 3: Triple A and just see where he's kind of at
- 21:00Speaker 3: on that level standpoint. But I mean, it's a plus
- 21:03Speaker 3: plus breaking ball stuff. Like McDonald had said before, breaking
- 21:07Speaker 3: balls are Bratish type breaking balls, and with those clips there,
- 21:10Speaker 3: you can tell that's a high praise to say, especially
- 21:13Speaker 3: with Oiel fans talking about it. But it lives up
- 21:16Speaker 3: to the praise right there in those cups three show.
- 21:20Speaker 1: As I watched last night, that's what I thought. Bradish light.
- 21:23Speaker 1: And I'm not saying he's gonna be Kyle Bradish. Don't
- 21:25Speaker 1: get carried away here. I'm just saying his pitch ability
- 21:29Speaker 1: was similar and those breaking balls were really something last night.
- 21:32Speaker 1: He's got a one forty seven ERA. This year, he's
- 21:35Speaker 1: thrown seventeen times and sixteen he's allowed two runs or less.
- 21:40Speaker 1: So I mean, the guy's just been stellar. Looks like
- 21:42Speaker 1: he might even get a chance to bump the triple A.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Anthony Jyinson meanwhile, or excuse me not iinsen Kye Kyson
- 21:50Speaker 1: Witherspoon meanwhile, was pitching last night for Frederick. Gave up
- 21:53Speaker 1: one unner and running four and a third. I watched
- 21:56Speaker 1: a little bit of this. He got bailed out, he
- 21:58Speaker 1: left with the bases loaded in the fifth. Brighten Sloan
- 22:00Speaker 1: got out of it to keep this pitching line preserved.
- 22:04Speaker 1: So that was pretty good. This Andy AzID Car continues
- 22:07Speaker 1: to hit it, Frederick. He's now ten for twenty four
- 22:10Speaker 1: in his first five games with the Keys, with six
- 22:12Speaker 1: extra bay sits and eight RBIs. So at least from
- 22:16Speaker 1: that standpoint, if these kids were one for twenty and
- 22:20Speaker 1: Ansen gave up six runs, I mean there was some
- 22:23Speaker 1: pressure on them when you're traded for Adlie.
- 22:25Speaker 4: Right, oh yeah, yeah, big time.
- 22:27Speaker 3: And I think when you get traded from your first
- 22:30Speaker 3: organization over to the new one, you want to make
- 22:32Speaker 3: a good impression. So there's even that added pressure on themselves,
- 22:35Speaker 3: let alone what all the fans are thinking. You have
- 22:37Speaker 3: that added pressure on yourself of like, I want to
- 22:39Speaker 3: show these guys that you know, I can do what
- 22:41Speaker 3: I can do, and for them to go out and
- 22:43Speaker 3: you know, hold it together and put up decent numbers
- 22:45Speaker 3: in their first outing in the new organization after a
- 22:48Speaker 3: whirlwind of a week is encouraging stuff.
- 22:51Speaker 4: And hopefully they just continue to get more comfortable.
- 22:53Speaker 3: And really carve out a niche for them in this
- 22:56Speaker 3: organization moving forward and up through the levels.
- 22:59Speaker 6: Yeah, talking him out the other day.
- 23:01Speaker 5: Just the pressure that's on that when you trade away
- 23:04Speaker 5: an Adley Rutchman. All fans are going to look at
- 23:07Speaker 5: their box score every single time that they are playing.
- 23:10Speaker 5: And right now there's about a month a little over
- 23:13Speaker 5: a month remaining in the minor league season. So if
- 23:15Speaker 5: you're that bunch shit, you want to just continue to
- 23:18Speaker 5: finish this season strong and head into twenty twenty seven
- 23:21Speaker 5: on a high.
- 23:23Speaker 1: When that kid took the man last night at Bowie,
- 23:25Speaker 1: all I could think of is he gives up a
- 23:27Speaker 1: sixth spot. There's going to be an avalanche criticism of
- 23:30Speaker 1: the trade, and you never put it on one start.
- 23:33Speaker 1: But it's great terrible. But if it had been terrible, man,
- 23:37Speaker 1: they would have been rough on that kid.
- 23:38Speaker 2: But he threw. He threw a great game.
- 23:40Speaker 1: Michael Ferret today pitched Triple A Norfolk his first game
- 23:43Speaker 1: against Buffalo. Two runs in four and two thirds. And
- 23:46Speaker 1: here's why they say he's close to ready. His first
- 23:49Speaker 1: three Triple A games for Durham, his VR was ten.
- 23:52Speaker 1: He had a first round knockout in one of those games,
- 23:55Speaker 1: but in his last seven Triple A starts counting today,
- 23:58Speaker 1: his ZRA is three point zero three.
- 24:00Speaker 2: So Forret's a pitcher on a roll with triple A.
- 24:03Speaker 1: I would not surprise me at all if we see
- 24:06Speaker 1: him in Baltimore before the year is out.
- 24:09Speaker 2: A fourteenth round draft.
- 24:10Speaker 1: Pick out of Juco by the Oriols a couple of
- 24:13Speaker 1: years ago now knocking on the door. So oriol pitching
- 24:16Speaker 1: development really is shining now and they're just loaded with
- 24:20Speaker 1: these pitching prospects, which I think we're gonna see it's
- 24:23Speaker 1: going to serve his organization so well over the next
- 24:26Speaker 1: few years.
- 24:27Speaker 2: But a lot to play out.
- 24:29Speaker 1: We got a few minutes ago in this show, we'll
- 24:32Speaker 1: transition on. We'll talk about Dean Kramer. He'll be facing
- 24:35Speaker 1: the Oriols tomorrow night. That's next on Birdland Territory.
- 24:40Speaker 8: Big Bed Morning Show Vinnie and Haney, Inside Access Live
- 24:45Speaker 8: on YouTube weekdays six till six, search Baltimore one to
- 24:49Speaker 8: five seven the Fan, Subscribe for daily short's right to
- 24:52Speaker 8: your phone and never miss which you miss one five
- 24:55Speaker 8: seven the fan.
- 24:58Speaker 1: So let's see if the Oil offense can build on
- 25:00Speaker 1: the big game on Sunday and Brad, what's it gonna
- 25:03Speaker 1: be like you think for Dean Kramer tomorrow?
- 25:06Speaker 3: Uh?
- 25:06Speaker 1: He he had a really good run on the Orioles
- 25:08Speaker 1: watch coming over in the Many trade. Now he's pitching
- 25:12Speaker 1: against the Orioles and against one of his good friends,
- 25:15Speaker 1: Trevor Rodgers, tomorrow night at Target Field.
- 25:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:19Speaker 3: I think it's gonna be it's gonna be fun, it's
- 25:20Speaker 3: gonna be emotional, it's gonna be Dean's gonna want to
- 25:23Speaker 3: stick it to the Oriols a little bit.
- 25:24Speaker 4: I think it's as much as everybody wants to say.
- 25:27Speaker 3: When you get traded away from a team that you
- 25:29Speaker 3: know just doesn't see you've fit anymore, you want to
- 25:32Speaker 3: prove it to him.
- 25:33Speaker 4: And not many guys get a chance this quick to
- 25:35Speaker 4: do it.
- 25:36Speaker 3: So, h, Dean's gonna come out tomorrow and yes it's
- 25:38Speaker 3: his good friends, and yes it's his old organization, and
- 25:41Speaker 3: he had to.
- 25:41Speaker 4: He had a really nice I saw tweet out.
- 25:43Speaker 3: I appreciate, like appreciating the fans and the organization for
- 25:46Speaker 3: giving him a shot and everything, but uh, this is
- 25:48Speaker 3: something he's gonna want to go out and he's going
- 25:50Speaker 3: to prove that you guys messed up.
- 25:51Speaker 4: I'd let me go.
- 25:52Speaker 3: It's it's human nature in sports. You're always looking for
- 25:56Speaker 3: an edge, You're looking for something to kind of motivate
- 25:58Speaker 3: you even extra. And he he's gonna have that tomorrow,
- 26:00Speaker 3: So I wouldn't be surprised if he comes out throwing
- 26:03Speaker 3: a little bit harder, having a little bit nastier stuff
- 26:05Speaker 3: than he than he had before. But the game will
- 26:07Speaker 3: settle in and then uh, it's gonna be right back
- 26:09Speaker 3: to business. But the first couple of things, I wouldn't
- 26:11Speaker 3: be surprised to see him coming out blunt guns blazing tomorrow.
- 26:16Speaker 6: What was going for you, Brian?
- 26:17Speaker 5: Like you know if you pitched against the Padres when
- 26:20Speaker 5: you were with the O's or when you pitched against
- 26:23Speaker 5: the O's after they traded you in eighteen, Like, what
- 26:26Speaker 5: was it like?
- 26:26Speaker 6: You know that that first time?
- 26:28Speaker 3: Yeah, the uh, the Padres was kind of the first
- 26:31Speaker 3: one that I had the chance to face, and it
- 26:33Speaker 3: was you wanted they still had the same manager, and
- 26:35Speaker 3: it was you want to go out there and be like,
- 26:37Speaker 3: you guys messed up. It's it's like I said, it's
- 26:39Speaker 3: kind of human nature in sports, and you know that
- 26:42Speaker 3: the uh, there was a lot of development I had
- 26:44Speaker 3: to do once I left San Diego.
- 26:46Speaker 4: It was kind of like getting out of college for
- 26:48Speaker 4: an instance.
- 26:48Speaker 3: You know, like you're so comfortable, you you know everybody,
- 26:51Speaker 3: but when you go somewhere else, it's kind of like
- 26:53Speaker 3: it's kind of time to grow up and it's you're
- 26:55Speaker 3: getting a little bit older. But when I faced him,
- 26:57Speaker 3: I didn't forget it, and I want to go out
- 26:59Speaker 3: there and just you know my old buddies that you know,
- 27:01Speaker 3: they they there was some more left in the tank
- 27:03Speaker 3: that we just weren't able to like unleash when I
- 27:06Speaker 3: was in San Diego. So it was there's gonna be
- 27:08Speaker 3: definitely some of that for Dean tomorrow. That this is
- 27:11Speaker 3: so new that I don't know how much could have
- 27:13Speaker 3: built up over that time. I had a few years
- 27:15Speaker 3: before I faced the Padres, so it's gonna be a
- 27:17Speaker 3: little different for him.
- 27:18Speaker 4: That's that's a quick turnaround there.
- 27:20Speaker 5: And it's funny that the Olds are in this crazy
- 27:22Speaker 5: stretch where it was Grayson Rodriguez last week, it's Dean
- 27:26Speaker 5: Kramer tomorrow. The Oods played two series against the Raise upcoming,
- 27:31Speaker 5: so Tyler Wells, you know, he's gonna get a crack
- 27:33Speaker 5: or maybe multiple cracks at the Orioles. So all of
- 27:36Speaker 5: this within a couple of weeks span for the birth.
- 27:38Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it's kind of one of those things
- 27:40Speaker 3: when you trade in division, you know, it's or Interleague.
- 27:44Speaker 3: It's gonna happen quicker than you expect. I mean, this
- 27:46Speaker 3: is way quicker than most of these guys probably would
- 27:48Speaker 3: have expected. But I think that's part of the thing
- 27:50Speaker 3: when you when you trade in division, they're gonna do
- 27:53Speaker 3: they play the Red Sox again too, because.
- 27:54Speaker 4: They'll see sometime here soon.
- 27:56Speaker 3: And so it happens quick when it's in division. With
- 27:59Speaker 3: the Rays, especially those guys Brian Baker, I'm sure he remembers.
- 28:03Speaker 3: He's a little bit more fired up anytime he faces
- 28:05Speaker 3: the O's just because he got traded over to the
- 28:07Speaker 3: Rays last year.
- 28:08Speaker 4: So we'll have a couple guys waiting to face them
- 28:11Speaker 4: here coming up.
- 28:11Speaker 3: But when you're the Oriols, you know everything these guys do,
- 28:14Speaker 3: so that that's the advantage when it comes to the
- 28:16Speaker 3: Oriole side of things.
- 28:17Speaker 5: I was about to say, like Dean Tomorrow, is that
- 28:21Speaker 5: advantage Orioles advantage?
- 28:22Speaker 6: Dean, how do you see it?
- 28:24Speaker 3: I would I mean, I'd have to imagine it's advantage Oriols.
- 28:27Speaker 3: But then again, again, he knows all these guys, he
- 28:30Speaker 3: knows he's watched these guys a million times in the dugout.
- 28:32Speaker 3: But I just feel like with the analytics side of things.
- 28:35Speaker 3: You sit in the side and you see how guys hit,
- 28:37Speaker 3: but it's kind of hard, like you're always looking up
- 28:39Speaker 3: the scoreboard, what did that guy throw?
- 28:40Speaker 4: What was that pitch?
- 28:41Speaker 3: And you kind of like get somewhat of a game plan,
- 28:44Speaker 3: But when you're facing that picture, it's everything is right
- 28:47Speaker 3: there in your face. And these guys probably knew with
- 28:48Speaker 3: Dean throw before he even got traded over. So I
- 28:51Speaker 3: feel like it's advantage oriols, but I don't know. I've
- 28:54Speaker 3: been wrong before, so we'll see tomorrow when they face them.
- 28:58Speaker 1: I'm not much of a believer crazy fears, but here's
- 29:00Speaker 1: a crazy one and it's come come out from parts
- 29:03Speaker 1: of Berdland. So that a game about a week or
- 29:05Speaker 1: two ago, Kramer throws to first, did you see the ball?
- 29:09Speaker 1: He's trying to say that Alonzo and Pete's like looking
- 29:12Speaker 1: at the dug guy, what's he talking about? And so
- 29:14Speaker 1: I saw miscommunication. Some fans saw more than that, and
- 29:19Speaker 1: then they did. Then there there next leap twas Hey.
- 29:23Speaker 1: A couple of days later, he's traded. It was not
- 29:25Speaker 1: much ado about nothing.
- 29:28Speaker 5: Go ahead, tim oh, No, I was gonna say, it's
- 29:31Speaker 5: much ado about nothing. I I I just think it
- 29:35Speaker 5: was a weird exchange. But I think that was just
- 29:38Speaker 5: Dean being Dean. Now, if we want to go back
- 29:40Speaker 5: to last year, his exchange with Samuel Bissio coming off
- 29:44Speaker 5: the mound was a little odd to me, but I
- 29:47Speaker 5: think the exchange with Pete Alonzo was much ado about nothing.
- 29:50Speaker 5: I think he was just genuinely asking him, hey, can
- 29:53Speaker 5: you see you know it is the light getting in
- 29:55Speaker 5: your eyes.
- 29:56Speaker 6: I just think it was, you know, a legitimate exchange.
- 30:00Speaker 2: Right. There are some fears, I'm telling you, man.
- 30:07Speaker 1: On your Twitter, and man, you could see all kinds
- 30:09Speaker 1: of crazy stuff.
- 30:12Speaker 2: Guys, before we start coughing again, I think we you
- 30:14Speaker 2: wrap it up.
