- 0:03It's Monday, everybody. I'm not going to say happy yet.
- 0:08Couple more days. We are all still hurting after
- 0:14the death of Kyle Busch. Talked to my wife on the way
- 0:19down here to Myrtle Beach and I said, you know what, it's just
- 0:23not happy yet. So we will get to that soon,
- 0:29maybe tomorrow, but it is Monday, Memorial Day.
- 0:33Everybody down here in Myrtle Beach, look at this TV, would
- 0:39you? They call them for rain here and
- 0:47there, just like the Coke 600 last night.
- 0:55I am down here in Myrtle Beach with some very good friends,
- 0:59some of the best friends of our life, Glenn and Brenda Hay.
- 1:05She says, Herman, what do you want for breakfast?
- 1:09There they are. And she says, what do you want
- 1:14for breakfast? I said, now you're spoiling me.
- 1:16Stop it, Brenda, I said. I'll take a piece of toast with
- 1:22a little butter and maybe some blueberries and strawberries.
- 1:29There's Glenn, you know, you know what we're going to do
- 1:32tomorrow? Tomorrow coffee with Kenny is
- 1:36going to be with my beautiful wife Kim and Brenda and we'll
- 1:42see if we can get Glenn to do a drive by.
- 1:44He's a little shy. And we'll talk about the great
- 1:49fan club days. We'll talk about, I had a talk
- 1:54with Kyle Betty about fan club and he had something interesting
- 1:59to say about the fan club days with his dad, Richard Petty.
- 2:05OK, we're going to be down here and we're going to take off
- 2:07Thursday and head back home. I'm laughing because I'm never
- 2:12home. One of these days I'm going to
- 2:15stay home, everybody, but I feel like I'm at home down here
- 2:18because it's a wonderful place to be.
- 2:25All right, let's, let's talk about the weekend that was the
- 2:32Coke 600. Boy, I tell you what, it played
- 2:38out just like the week that it was one of the toughest weeks in
- 2:44motor racing history, losing officially, losing Kyle Busch to
- 2:51sepsis. And of course we had a long talk
- 2:56about that. You know, at first I heard he
- 3:00had double pneumonia and then severe pneumonia.
- 3:05I, I guess it could be the same respond right here.
- 3:09I don't know, is double pneumonia, is that a thing?
- 3:12I know severe pneumonia I've never heard of, I don't know,
- 3:17during the sepsis. And we lost a great cow Bush.
- 3:23You know, for days I wondered what would Samantha and Braxton
- 3:29and that baby Lennox be like? And where's Curt at?
- 3:34Where's the mom and dad? And to everybody's shock and
- 3:39amazement, there they were. Poor Samantha and and Braxton,
- 3:45the man that he was at such a young age, Braxton becoming a
- 3:50man. There they were before
- 3:54everybody's eyes at the Coke 600 right there on the front
- 3:58straightaway there was 2 vehicles that pulled up on Pit
- 4:04Rd. They look like Chevrolet
- 4:06Suburbans or Denali's or something like that.
- 4:09Two of them. And the families got out of both
- 4:13vehicles. And I mean you talk about time
- 4:18standing still and people just. I mean, I was, I yelled at my
- 4:22wife, Kim. Oh my gosh, look at that.
- 4:27That's Kyle Bush's wife and family.
- 4:33And boy, I said a couple days ago that we haven't had a real
- 4:37president in NASCAR in a long time.
- 4:41Out of everything I'm going to say today is probably the most
- 4:43controversial, but I mean, well, you know, our our NASCAR
- 4:48presence haven't been right there.
- 4:52And there he was. We finally have a NASCAR
- 4:54president. Everybody, Steve O'Donnell, what
- 4:58a strong man he was right there told that family that everybody
- 5:04in the grandstands, everybody in the garage area, we love you and
- 5:08we got your back. What a wonderful gesture by the
- 5:11president of NASCAR, Steve O'Donnell.
- 5:14He could let it go. He could let it go and said,
- 5:17listen, you know, that's that's a family situation.
- 5:21But he stood up like the man he was, President Steve O'Donnell
- 5:25of NASCAR told Braxton. We got you.
- 5:31Oh, man, I'll tell you what, I it was a it was incredible.
- 5:39Now I end like this on Samantha. I don't know, but I read and I
- 5:44think it was a pretty good source that after that she went
- 5:49to the, you know #8 which is now 33 pit box.
- 5:54And maybe she stayed there just for the start.
- 5:59Man, I'm more, I'm more out just talking about that because it's
- 6:02so heartfelt. All right, switching subjects.
- 6:11I have to admit, and I, and I feel bad.
- 6:14I Brett, Brenda's over there and Glenn's over there.
- 6:17And I told him, I said, I'm ashamed to admit this is the
- 6:21first Coke 600 that I've watched in entirety.
- 6:26I watch that thing on this big, beautiful TV right here, right
- 6:31there. I watch them drop the green
- 6:36flag. And when they drop that green
- 6:38flag, it was it was good, But I said something's missing.
- 6:42Where's Darrell? Walter.
- 6:43Pat, we need boogity. Boogity.
- 6:47Let's go racing, boys. Still, it was a great broadcast,
- 6:51really good broadcast. I really enjoyed it.
- 6:55I don't know what it was, it just I really liked it.
- 6:58Respond right here, everybody. Did you like that broadcast?
- 7:01Sometimes, you know, it's not that Fox did a bad job.
- 7:06Fox does a wonderful job. Actually, I believe Fox has
- 7:09saved NASCAR because they've been with, you know, NASCAR a
- 7:13long time and and Fox was over there broadcasting the Indy 500
- 7:17and they did a wonderful job. Those announcers brought home a
- 7:21great, one of the greatest finishes in IndyCar history.
- 7:25So Fox did a good job for the Indy 500.
- 7:27But sometimes just a nice little change in middle of the year is
- 7:32really nice. So I really liked, you know,
- 7:36Carl Edwards being there. Looks like he's forgive himself.
- 7:42That's a subject for another day.
- 7:44But it it seems like Carl Edwards has forgiven himself and
- 7:49it's good to see him back. Of course, Corey Lajoie Corey
- 7:54has shown up and shown out lately.
- 7:57Corey Lajoie, Carl Edwards. They announced the CMT Awards,
- 8:01Country Music TV Awards, so those two are a duo here lately,
- 8:06but great broadcast. You had Dale Junior up in there,
- 8:14Steve Letarte, I believe that was AA Adam Alexander.
- 8:24Danielle Trotter, I'm sorry, I'm apologizing early, but I think
- 8:27she's the let. I think she's the best lady
- 8:30broadcaster I've worked with. Danielle Trotter.
- 8:32She just when you're there with her, she's in control when
- 8:36they're saying, OK, we're going live 543.
- 8:40She's got it together. She's sure of herself.
- 8:43She's good. I've worked with Danielle.
- 8:49You know it. It seems like nothing was going
- 8:52to be normal this week And and I'll just consolidate it all as
- 8:55we come to the end of coffee with Kenny.
- 8:59Nothing was going to be normal. And when you when you looked at
- 9:03that weather radar, like on a Monday, it's like we're going to
- 9:07get washed out. There's no way we're going to
- 9:08get anything in here. We are on Monday and everybody's
- 9:14peaceful. They're going to spend time with
- 9:16their families or their loved ones.
- 9:19And I'm going to tell you what, I'm going to give NASCAR 110%
- 9:26because they got every race in. Could they have done this right?
- 9:30Could they have done that right? Well, that's easy to say, but in
- 9:36the end, NASCAR got all three races in.
- 9:39They lined up, they raced for an hour here or there.
- 9:44I mean, the Coke 600 was within what, 30 laps?
- 9:49They ran 550 something miles. Everybody got the same chance.
- 9:55The truck race, when they dropped the green flag, it was
- 10:0010/15. At 10:15, they dropped the green
- 10:03flag. They had an hour and 45 minutes
- 10:06to determine a winner, and that's a long time.
- 10:09Just sit on your couch for an hour and 45 minutes.
- 10:13But they wrecked. They wrecked and they wrecked,
- 10:16and Lane, Lane Riggs won the race.
- 10:18That's it. That's the winner.
- 10:22The O'Reilly race, same thing. They made one mistake in the
- 10:27O'Reilly race. One mistake, the truck, and I
- 10:32don't know what the call was, but I'm not going to beat NASCAR
- 10:35up. That guy blew that motor going
- 10:38into turn 1 and dropped all that oil everywhere they come, all
- 10:42the way around. They ran right through that oil.
- 10:44About 5 car wrecked. I'd say that's the mistake of
- 10:47the week. That's it.
- 10:48That's all I got. And in the end we had we had
- 10:57another winner and then we roll on and this how I'm going to
- 11:02leave you everybody 30 cars come down Pit Rd. and they all had a
- 11:08decision to make. And some said I'm going to take
- 11:124 tires and some said I'm going to take 2 tires.
- 11:16Daniel Suarez team took 2. They went, I guess it was
- 11:20exactly 2 restarts and they couldn't pass him.
- 11:24And that, my friend is called strategy.
- 11:26And that's your winner, Daniel Suarez.
- 11:30And what a week it was and one to remember for the rest of our
- 11:34lives. All right, everybody, There she
- 11:39is there Brenda, right there. She's saying, are you done yet?
- 11:42I got your breakfast ready. She said I ain't saying a word.
- 11:48Love you, Brenda. I love you too.
- 11:50All right, tomorrow's the big day, everybody.
- 11:52You know, Kim's going to get up early, get her, get her hair in
- 11:54a ponytail. So tomorrow, hang out for
- 11:57tomorrow. It's going to be the fan club
- 12:00special. A little bit about our fan club.
- 12:03And do fan clubs still exist? And do you remember the fan club
- 12:07days? that Lady right there, Brenda.
- 12:10Hey, she was, she ran our fan club.
- 12:12And boy, she did a wonderful job.
- 12:13Best days. You were the best.
- 12:16They were the best days. They were the best, all of you.
- 12:20OK, everybody have the best Memorial Day that you can have.
- 12:25And maybe tomorrow it'll be happy Tuesday.
- 12:27We'll see.
