- 0:19Report with Sam Whitfield. Hello, everyone, and welcome
- 0:29back to the channel for the Whitfield report.
- 0:34And wow, what an amazing, you know, past 24 hours, we've had
- 0:41in terms of the news cycle at the time of recording this
- 0:45video, I believe it's been exactly 24 hours since it was
- 0:51announced that Elon Musk took over Twitter.
- 0:58His Twitter IQ acquisition was indeed successful.
- 1:04And it's very interesting to know how people are reacting to
- 1:09this first and foremost just - reaction was.
- 1:18Wow, the madman actually did it. There were a lot of people that
- 1:24did not want him taking over Twitter.
- 1:27They're worse. still a lot of people who are unhappy that he
- 1:33took over Twitter and we will you know, will get into why that
- 1:37is here in just a second but honestly, folks, I have not been
- 1:45this giddy Really, since Donald Trump won the election in 2016,
- 1:55really since election night 2016 to be precise. it was a huge
- 2:01upset then because Trump was not supposed to win according to,
- 2:08you know, the mainstream narrative, you know, Hillary
- 2:12Clinton was supposed to be the, you know, the anointed one.
- 2:20It was her turn to be president. And, you know, Donald Trump was
- 2:26a rodeo clown. And there, you know, mines, he
- 2:31was not one to be taken serious, and then he went and did it.
- 2:39And for the next, you know, really, Really the, you know,
- 2:45the next two years. They spent a whole narrative
- 2:50about Russia, they bitched and moaned endlessly, but I'm being
- 2:56president, it really was not a, you know, it was not a pretty
- 3:02sight. I don't think they took
- 3:06Hillary's lost as well as they could have.
- 3:10And I'm seeing a lot of parallels between how the left
- 3:16is reacting. You know, to Elon, buying out
- 3:20Twitter to how they reacted, when Trump Became president.
- 3:28Now, to be fair, I don't think Elon Musk is particularly right
- 3:32wing. I don't think he's necessarily
- 3:35conservative, you know, leaning. I don't know.
- 3:42I could be wrong on that. Ultimately though, he doesn't
- 3:45seem like that much of a political guy.
- 3:50He seems to be a free speech absolutist.
- 3:55He has said, so in, you know, interviews that I've heard, you
- 4:01know, he has said, he wants Twitter to be a platform for
- 4:05all. In fact, since we are talking
- 4:10about Twitter, let me go to his Twitter real quick.
- 4:15Oh yes, and we'll get, we'll get into these headlines as well.
- 4:21But what me what me navigate on over to Twitter real quick.
- 4:29Okay. And what's go to your on?
- 4:46Okay, let's go to he ones Twitter top.
- 4:53Timeline. And boy.
- 5:01Oh boy, is it? You know, this place is hopping.
- 5:11And you know, there you have, let me go ahead and retweet that
- 5:15right now the extreme end to body reaction from those who
- 5:20fear Free Speech says it all. Yeah, and this is what it comes
- 5:24down to. He's not really looking to
- 5:28censor any one as far as I can tell.
- 5:31He just wants the platform to be open, you know, to everyone.
- 5:38Let me see if I Find the, you know the thing, okay?
- 5:46So what's all this up, yesterday?
- 5:51Musk said, free speech is the Bedrock of a function,
- 5:55democracy, and Twitter is the digital Town Square.
- 6:04We're matters vital to the future of humanity are debated.
- 6:07Said Mr. Mosque. I also want to make Twitter
- 6:11better than ever before. By making the product with new
- 6:17features making the algorithm to open source to increase.
- 6:21Trust defeating the spam Bots. And verifying all human Twitter
- 6:27has let's see, tremendous potential.
- 6:31I look forward to working with the company and the community of
- 6:33users 10 log it. Okay?
- 6:36So, that is what he said, yesterday.
- 6:40Ladies and gentlemen, so, he's not talking about, You know.
- 6:50Turning into a right wing Echo chamber.
- 6:52That's what the, you know, that's what the narrative is 0.
- 6:57Trump's, you know, Trump is Elon and Elon is Trump, they're, you
- 7:02know, they're the same person, almost identical sort of that,
- 7:07you know, that's what the media narrative seems to be.
- 7:14He just wanted you to be open and, you know, free for everyone
- 7:20and what is so bad about that. Well, let's just look at all
- 7:26these headlines. There's nothing bad about it.
- 7:29In my opinion, folks, I'm all I'm all for, let's turn Twitter
- 7:33into, you know, the Free Speech, you know, Zone, where anyone and
- 7:39everyone can come to communicate.
- 7:42Right. But here's the narrative.
- 7:49That is coming about. Okay, so from the mainstream
- 7:53media, we have several articles Twitter has been focused on
- 8:01healthy conversations, Elon Musk could change that.
- 8:05And that's from CNN and their definition of healthy
- 8:10conversation is basically sensor, anyone who is true
- 8:13far-right from speaking or what, you know, or who they think is,
- 8:20you know, unhealthy? Twitter words face of reality,
- 8:28they long feared Elon Musk as owner Really, which Twitter
- 8:34employs are Fray. There there are some other ones,
- 8:46there's a great one. I read.
- 8:48Just the headline from The New Yorker which we all know so far
- 8:53left rag. This headline here, pretty much
- 8:58says it all, how Congress can prevent Elon Musk from turning
- 9:03Twitter back into an unfettered. Disinformation machine.
- 9:11So this right here, ladies and gentlemen, this is the narrative
- 9:14that there really trying to push that, you know, when Trump was
- 9:17on Twitter, it was a knocking chaos and you know, prior to 20
- 9:26prior to 20, you know, 18 or whenever it was just chaos it
- 9:32was you know people are just slinging, you know,
- 9:36disinformation and arrows and probably fecal matter on what it
- 9:40was. It was a dumpster fire, this
- 9:44information everywhere, you know, that's what they that's
- 9:48what the left Cries Out. When they're presented with an
- 9:53argument that they don't like, oh, you're just spreading
- 9:57disinformation, you just spreading lies.
- 10:03Well, you know how is having a debate about?
- 10:10Out, you know, something like a certain Jab.
- 10:16How is Raising concerns about that?
- 10:19How is that spreading disinformation?
- 10:22How was questioning, you know, Joe Biden's viability as
- 10:29president of the United States? How is it?
- 10:34That spreading disinformation. how is, how is he on Moscow,
- 10:42allowing hundreds of thousands of You know, just ordinary
- 10:50people who have been banned, how is that allowing the spread of
- 10:53misinformation, right? That seems to be a.
- 11:02You know, big bone of contention ear.
- 11:03Now, You know disinformation is the big catch all here, right
- 11:10folks? That's that's the main argument.
- 11:16that the left is using for, you know, why elon's takeover is Pat
- 11:23that and hate speech which At this point, ladies and
- 11:28gentlemen, and we've covered it on the show multiple times.
- 11:33Hey speech is such a catch-all term now.
- 11:37It doesn't really mean anything anymore.
- 11:44Basically the left has made it. You know, that anything I don't
- 11:48like is, hey speech. Anything I disagree with is hey
- 11:53speech. Right.
- 11:56And so going back, too. Going back to yawns tweet, the
- 12:07extreme antibody reaction from those who fear Free Speech says
- 12:13it all. And I completely Only agree,
- 12:18100%. This is not something that
- 12:23people should be afraid of the ones who are afraid of you ons,
- 12:28take over and wanting to turn this back into read speech are
- 12:32the people who wanted to control a narrative and he want you to
- 12:36use big Tech to do it now. As some of you may remember, A
- 12:45few months ago, I had my friend Sean some anko.
- 12:50Host of Real News, founder uncensored America, you know,
- 12:56you know, just an all-around great guy.
- 12:59I had him on because he was banned from Twitter for platform
- 13:05manipulation. Right.
- 13:09But when I asked him what platform manipulation was or if
- 13:14they you know, explained to him how he was, you know,
- 13:20manipulating Twitter's platform. He said they didn't know.
- 13:24He said he didn't know. That was just the time. term
- 13:30that gave him, you know, it and he was, Perma banned.
- 13:39So the only or the only accounts that he has, you know, able to
- 13:45him at this time, our diverse media, you know, accounts, which
- 13:52he only uses to tweet out the real news podcast and then
- 13:56uncentered America, which is his organization's Twitter account,
- 14:01but he himself has no personal Twitter, right?
- 14:07And, you know, platform manipulation like I said that
- 14:09such a broad sweeping turn. You know my friend Rob.
- 14:18My friend Rob lorch who I've talked about on the show before.
- 14:23Wait isn't gentleman. I met Rob.
- 14:28On the old Dennis Miller radio show forms back. back when that
- 14:40was a thing, scuse me back when I first moved to to Florida, Way
- 14:48back in the day. You know, Rob was one of the
- 14:53most entertaining people on Twitter.
- 14:56He was funny. He was witty, you know, he still
- 15:00has, he's not dad. You know, any Eve was political
- 15:05somewhat, but mostly he would like, just retweet political
- 15:13things from other accounts and then mostly his whole thing was,
- 15:19he would either like Jokes or a when he was big into like, 80s
- 15:22horror film stuff. I remember he would tweet a lot
- 15:26about that. He got banned.
- 15:28I can't remember why I think I think was because like some
- 15:34feminist activist basically called him, you know, a rapist
- 15:42or something. He basically told her to, you
- 15:46know, pound sand. She basically, flagged him for
- 15:51harassment or something like that, that and he got banned,
- 15:56you know, even though she was the one who instigated Yeah.
- 16:02Right? So there are there are
- 16:04definitely cases like that. And by the way, ladies and
- 16:13gentlemen. Well we are well, we are on this
- 16:16video. Go to my profile here.
- 16:28I want people to see this. Hold on sec.
- 16:52Okay. This was a tweet that I put out
- 16:56yesterday. On Twitter, dear are Li Yuan
- 17:02mosque. I humbly ask that you unbanned,
- 17:05my friend Rob out at our Lord, as he was unfairly band.
- 17:11Five years ago, he has a great sense of humor and as avatars
- 17:15wins a prize, as a kid too. So how can you say no to that?
- 17:21Thank you. And yeah, I hopefully we will be
- 17:25getting the edit button folks because you know, there is a
- 17:31typo here as you can see and there's no way to edit that and
- 17:40you know, my good friend Dominica section.
- 17:42I second this Rob large is one of the funniest clubbers and
- 17:47smartest people on Twitter hashtag free of Borg Which I
- 17:52completely agree with. It's gotten 10 likes and one
- 17:57quote tweet from Rachel Winstead, shout out to her to
- 18:02her and her husband Jeff, the Fantastic comic book artist And
- 18:11you know, Rob lorch is not like a celebrity.
- 18:18You know, he's not like some edgy shitpost or anything like
- 18:22that. I mean he is a celebrity in my
- 18:26world you know, in my small little corner of it and I he
- 18:30should be, he's certainly comedic Lee talented enough but
- 18:36you know, he's just an ordinary guy.
- 18:41And he got unfairly banned from Twitter.
- 18:50But you know, there are other accounts that were banned the
- 18:56already have come back, I think. You know, off the top of my head
- 19:02my good friend. John.
- 19:03Eric. Hey, He is back on Twitter,
- 19:09actually, after being banned. I think he was, I think he was
- 19:15banned actually before I met him honestly.
- 19:21Because he just followed me last night.
- 19:24I know that drunk three pios accountants back, so that's
- 19:29good. Baked Alaska's account.
- 19:34Although, you know, I'm not a big fan of baked Alaska anymore.
- 19:39He's back on Twitter. And yes folks I do want to get
- 19:44into that a little bit because right there are some people on
- 19:50the right who I think are troublemakers.
- 19:55And who I don't necessarily agree with Owen, Benjamin being
- 19:58the most notable one, right? You know, Owen Benjamin doxxed.
- 20:08Two of my friends was harassing them, you know, by extension
- 20:14his, you know, his Colt fans were like spanning my chats, you
- 20:21know, trying to like, harass me on Twitter, trying to get my
- 20:25stuff taken down. Right?
- 20:30Because I called out Owen on some of his BS when he went
- 20:34crazy. But I've always said that when,
- 20:37you know, one of the reasons why I think Owen Benjamin went crazy
- 20:41was because he got censored from Twitter and You know, that the
- 20:52decline in I went, it seemed pretty, you know, sharp.
- 20:57Once he got banned from Twitter, And so while I don't agree with
- 21:03you. No oh and on a lot of stuff now.
- 21:07I definitely think that censoring and banning him from
- 21:10Twitter. Twitter, hurt him.
- 21:14To be honest, I don't think he would have become as crazy or
- 21:19radical, you know, if he if he were still on Twitter I think he
- 21:24would have had, you know, more mainstream voices and more R.
- 21:29I guess not even mainstream but more rational voices, perhaps
- 21:34speaking to him. You know, and this is the other
- 21:37thing too is like, you know, censorship David being even done
- 21:41studies on this. One in one of the big Arguments
- 21:47for Banning like super right-wing.
- 21:49People as You know, or like you know, hey speech accounts like
- 21:56the KKK, wanting one reason they have is, well, they don't want
- 22:02to radicalize people, right? They don't want to rely on
- 22:09social media to become a group, a breeding ground for a speech.
- 22:13The problem with Banning Speech off Twitter, even if it is hey
- 22:19speeches, those who seek that stuff out.
- 22:26Will find it anyway. And I'll go down rabbit holes,
- 22:31so go deeper and deeper into their Echo Chambers and it never
- 22:35ends up. Well, you know, turning out.
- 22:37Well anyway, whereas, you go onto a platform like Twitter
- 22:42back in the old days, when things are open.
- 22:44When you have, you know, A diversity of opinion.
- 22:49Yeah, you might get hate speech. You might get some racist
- 22:52speech, but I guarantee you like, back in the old days of
- 22:56Twitter. If?
- 23:00you know, if if someone said something like, you know, why
- 23:07people are superior to black people or, you know, Vice verse
- 23:13black, people are spiritual white people or anything like
- 23:19overtly racist back in the old back in the old days, you would
- 23:24have people. You know, we replies that person
- 23:31and yeah you might get people, you know, that say, fuck you
- 23:35that's racist or you know whatever.
- 23:38But there were a lot of instances back in the old days
- 23:45of Twitter where you would get radical people like No, people
- 23:51from the Westboro Baptist Church who would tweet out you, do
- 23:55Insane things. But then you know, counter to
- 24:03that, you would have black people responding to them and
- 24:07question their logic and actually challenging them to an
- 24:11intellectual debate and that's what we need.
- 24:17You know, and Twitter we don't need more censorship of thought
- 24:20we already have that and too much of it at this point.
- 24:25I, you know, all be bold enough to say that the only antidote to
- 24:32hate speech is more speech than good speech.
- 24:37Don't censor? Hey, speech allowed.
- 24:40Good speech. You know, to come in and
- 24:44counteract that speech, if it's such an age, if it's such an
- 24:49issue for you censorship does not work now, you know, doxing
- 24:55and like threatening and harassment.
- 24:58That's a different story. but, you know, if it if actually like
- 25:06causes harm to your physical safety, like a threat, if
- 25:10someone's threatening to kill you and it's, you know, active,
- 25:16you know, and it's verifiable that that's one thing that's
- 25:20shouting fire in a movie theater but Yeah, climbing Haze.
- 25:26Connie hate speech, because someone says something, distaste
- 25:30for something. You don't agree with.
- 25:32That should not be banned animal.
- 25:34That should be debated. Maybe and, you know, allowed for
- 25:39discussion, but it certainly should not be banned.
- 25:45So that's just my take on the whole free speech.
- 25:50Thing with Twitter in regards to Features, I like to have well we
- 25:56certainly need an edit button. And I, you know, I know you'll
- 26:03on is looking at doing that and that's kind of the meme at this
- 26:07point, you know, the Elan. But at Twitter simply to add and
- 26:11edit button, right? That's one of the memes.
- 26:14But now I think, you know, an edit button needs to be, you
- 26:19know, taken into account. I think the you I might need to
- 26:23be cleaned up a bit one feature that I really think needs to be
- 26:33brought back, is 0 is allowing Warren are accounts to be
- 26:43verified. And what do I mean by verified?
- 26:48Well, you know, back in the early days of Twitter, basically
- 26:52anyone could apply to be verified to have a blue
- 26:57checkmark verification, essentially means that You know,
- 27:05your profile is your official profile that it's you who is you
- 27:10know, representing an account and not like a fan account or
- 27:14not someone doing like a parody Or, you know, kind of like an
- 27:19impersonation account. And I think You know.
- 27:27Now, Twitter verification is kind of like us is kind of like
- 27:31a, you know, a celebrity stat that is type of thing.
- 27:36But in all honesty, I think verification should be, like,
- 27:40open to anyone. Who is actually wanting to
- 27:43verify their identity because I for one have multiple accounts.
- 27:53Yeah, I have this one and then I have a back one by also have,
- 27:57you know, I've seen there was an account like about a year or so
- 28:02ago that was using my profile picture and that was kind like
- 28:08impersonating me to send spam to people, you know.
- 28:14And fortunately I was able to report it and shut it down one
- 28:18and whatnot and whatnot. but, You know, by having my actual
- 28:24Twitter account verified by having that blue checkmark,
- 28:28people could know that it's actually me, you know, what
- 28:32speaking and representing myself even though I'm not, you know, a
- 28:37major public fear. I still am a public figure
- 28:40somewhat. So, just like on mountains.
- 28:44I think we should be allowed to verify easily.
- 28:49So you know that's my main stick.
- 28:52Now as far as like other platforms like you know mines
- 28:57and gab was a night I think Gap is from pretty much dead you
- 29:03know if they do bring back Trump and they start to bring back all
- 29:07these other band figures back onto Twitter I think gab is dead
- 29:12minds and I wasn't I actually think mines will continue to
- 29:16maybe be a viable thing. Because people say that Minds is
- 29:23a twit alternative. But honestly, I see mines is
- 29:25more like a Facebook alternative to be honest.
- 29:29And Minds is also trying to do its own thing with crypto, you
- 29:33know, currency and why not and using that for social media.
- 29:37So honestly I don't think alt text should necessarily be shut
- 29:40down everything. Now the Twitter is, you know,
- 29:43and more responsible, my hands anything.
- 29:46I think, you know, people should be allowed to you know, be on
- 29:50multiple platforms and maybe some of these platforms can
- 29:54actually be real competitors to Twitter now, But honestly, those
- 30:00are just a mole in my initial thoughts on this whole thing.
- 30:05I don't want to take too, too much more of your time, really
- 30:09appreciate everyone for tuning into this video.
- 30:13And you know, for those of you watching this, I will have a
- 30:18video and actually full-length episode of the podcast up later
- 30:23today. So be sure to check that out
- 30:27like good friend, Luke Nicholas. Is my guest we recorded an
- 30:32interview on Sunday, we talked for two hours so that will be be
