Latest / Sea Hawkers Podcast: for Seattle Seahawks fans / Mike Macdonald Cuts Loose: Hard Knocks Episode 2 Reaction
Transcript
- 0:10Adam: Welcome to the Sea Hawkers Podcast.
- 0:12I am Adam Emmert and I'm joined today by my good buddy Clinton Bonner.
- 0:16And Clinton, we're talking a little bit about Hard Knocks, episode two just aired.
- 0:21This is our live reaction to it.
- 0:23an episode that had a lot of stuff in there.
- 0:26A lot.
- 0:27It's gonna be fun to kind of pick through a little bit.
- 0:29And I think one of the fun parts about Hard Knocks to me, Clinton,
- 0:33is that everybody picks out totally different things a lot of times.
- 0:36Mm.
- 0:36And, it, it's always fun to hear what everybody kind of takes away from it.
- 0:40But, yeah, man, interesting episode, and I know you are
- 0:44jacked up to talk about it.
- 0:46Clinton: Adam, I am so fired up about this.
- 0:48This might have been…
- 0:48I saw Lisa in our Discord, which by the way, if you're here right now live,
- 0:52you should be joining, subscribing, liking- Yeah … all the things.
- 0:56Get in our Discord at getintheflock.com,
- 0:58'cause Lisa just put in there, "That was the single greatest episode of
- 1:01TV that humanity has ever produced."
- 1:03And I don't disagree, Adam.
- 1:05Adam, if I am to say to you, "The MOB is good," what would you say?
- 1:09Adam: All the time.
- 1:10Clinton: All the time.
- 1:12Adam: Yeah.
- 1:12All the time, Clinton.
- 1:13Clinton: All the time.
- 1:14The MOB, what, what a beautiful, culture, right?
- 1:18To me, there's a lot to talk about, and for me, right out of the gate, the one
- 1:23thing I kept thinking was, "Man, there must be about 27 or 28 teams that are
- 1:29sitting at home, like, that are like, 'Why isn't my NFL life like this?'"
- 1:35e- every aspect of it, Adam.
- 1:39Adam: Yeah, for sure.
- 1:40'Cause there's a lot of different things that I think have been highlighted that
- 1:44are special about Coach Mike, the culture, what John has, been trying to build,
- 1:50just the brotherhood among the teammates.
- 1:52And, you know, one of the things that I think…
- 1:55I don't, I didn't listen to you and Brandan after episode one, but I
- 1:59think it's really interesting how the VMAC itself is a star of this show.
- 2:03Clinton: Of course, of course.
- 2:04Adam: Right?
- 2:04And, 'cause it is.
- 2:05It's…
- 2:06I've driven past, like, the Saints practice facility.
- 2:09It's in, like, the industrial part of, like, New Orleans-
- 2:12Mm-hmm … in this crappy dome.
- 2:14Like, you go there, you'd think you're going to football prison.
- 2:17Like, to go to the go to the lake- Kinda are, you know … and experience
- 2:20what they experience, and then, you know, the way the coaches build their
- 2:23culture, it, it really is special.
- 2:26Clinton: it's, it's unbelievable, and always special is Ryan911,
- 2:31our executive live producer, coming in with a 999 super chat.
- 2:35He says, "We need a Hard Knocks spinoff that's just, like, 10 episodes of
- 2:40Sam throwing spirals in slow-mo."
- 2:43Adam, to me, this hearkened- but thank you, Ryan, so much.
- 2:46This hearkened back to, like, NFL Films good old days- Oh, God
- 2:50NFL Films with the deep, you know, deep voices, and they're in the
- 2:53tren- the lam- John Facenda Exactly.
- 2:56And the slow-mo spiral, maybe a l- maybe a little glow up from the NFL, from HBO?
- 3:03A little glow up for Sam Darnold, Adam?
- 3:06What, what were you thinking while you saw Sam?
- 3:08Maybe we call him Sa- Sammy Spins now.
- 3:10I didn't know his rotation rate was that strong.
- 3:13Did you?
- 3:14Adam: I had an inkling, a- actually.
- 3:15Hmm.
- 3:16And, we'll, we'll get to that in a second.
- 3:18But I think it's very interesting that this is one of the things
- 3:22in the comments that's popping up, like, right out of the gate.
- 3:24Our buddy James, he just- Yeah … down the road from me, he
- 3:28gives me a call during the, you know, Sammy slinging, you know, spinning,
- 3:32like, portion of the episode.
- 3:34Yeah, yeah.
- 3:34He's like, "Do you believe this?
- 3:35Look at this."
- 3:36Like, everybody was, was fired up about it.
- 3:38And look, man, I'd be first one on the record i- to say give me
- 3:44slow-mo throwing motion balls in the air stuff all day long.
- 3:49I was transfixed.
- 3:50I was transfixed because it's beautiful, and Sam's motion is beautiful, and
- 3:56couple things about the spin rate.
- 3:58Mm-hmm.
- 3:59Like, hey, I wanna know how fast Warren Moon's spin rate-
- 4:02Clinton: Oh, God, who was in the episode, my best friend, who we sat
- 4:05down with at the- Hear that … draft.
- 4:06Adam: the, the other thing would be, I had kinda gotten an idea about
- 4:13Sam's spin rate- Back, I don't know if I'm still here or if Clinton's still
- 4:17here, so, you guys let me know.
- 4:19Clinton: Yeah, I, I could hear you.
- 4:21your, your, your audio kept going, you froze up for a second.
- 4:24I, I think I'm good- You froze up though … but keep on r- Oh … keep rocking.
- 4:26Keep rocking.
- 4:26Adam: All right.
- 4:27Very good.
- 4:27So, where I kinda got turned on to the idea that Sam can really spin it is,
- 4:31there's a video that was done, and I think it was even before his Vikings season.
- 4:35Jason Garrett went around the NFL, was talking to quarterbacks about
- 4:38throwing motions and stuff like that.
- 4:40Eventually gets to Josh Allen, and he asked Josh Allen, he's like,
- 4:43"Oh, who s- who spins it the best?"
- 4:45Clinton: Hm.
- 4:45Adam: And r- without a b- missing a beat, he's like, "Oh, Sam.
- 4:48Sam spins it better than anybody."
- 4:50Clinton: Yeah.
- 4:50Adam: And so this has been something that, you know, if you're in the
- 4:53know, like it- it's been a thing for like a while apparently,
- 4:57which is, which is pretty cool.
- 4:58But it does, it is nice to see Sam get some shine.
- 5:04Clinton: I wanna…
- 5:04And some of the little interstitials between, the s- the slow
- 5:09motion gorgeous shots that cause James, hello James, you're,
- 5:11you're the man by the way, hello.
- 5:13Got to hang out with him at the opener last year.
- 5:14He's a really cool dude.
- 5:16but the Jake Peetz interstitial about kinda that Goldilock zone of
- 5:22Sam throwing the football, I thought was like an interesting tidbit where
- 5:25they go into a little bit of the data, but then Jake is kinda like, "Yeah,
- 5:28you want this, this velocity, but you don't want it to be, you know,
- 5:32incredibly over-powering so it's right in that sweet spot to catch footballs."
- 5:35And then Adam, they just show catch after catch after…
- 5:39It doesn't matter whether it's Kupp or JSN or Arroyo or Horton, it, it
- 5:45doesn't really matter, but boy oh boy was there lots of, pinpoint passing
- 5:50from Sam really throughout the episode, and they really did harp on that.
- 5:55And there was one, one note later I took where Macdonald, I think he
- 5:59says something about his timing.
- 6:01He's like, "Man, compared to last year," he's like, "his
- 6:04timing is so just on point."
- 6:07I have a thought about that, but first to you.
- 6:09Anything pop out to you about, about Macdonald glowing about Sam's timing?
- 6:15Adam: I don't know if it's necessarily about the timing, but I think the
- 6:17timing can point to kind of my thought process from that, is this matches
- 6:21up with the reports that you've been hearing from training camp over the
- 6:25last week or so, where the offense has been giving the defense a, a
- 6:29good bit of the business- Mm-hmm.
- 6:30Yeah … you know, throughout training camp.
- 6:32And, you know, timing is a big part of that and being on point.
- 6:36You've heard, you heard Mike talk about the five starting offensive linemen
- 6:40in his last presser, and just how well they've been performing and what that
- 6:44means in, how much easier that makes Fleury's job at any given point.
- 6:49So it, it is interesting to watch that the offense, under a new coordinator- Right
- 6:56… seems to be clicking early against the best defense in football in training camp.
- 7:01And if there's anything positive to take away from training camp hype
- 7:05or, you know, the, the, the hate that comes out of training camp
- 7:09sometimes, some guy's underperforming or whatever, like this feels real,
- 7:13the idea that at this point anyways, the offense is really clicking well.
- 7:17Clinton: You hit it on the head, and that was what I had circled
- 7:21when they kept talking about Sam.
- 7:22And yeah, there was the, the little section where they showed JSN having
- 7:26that discussion in the room, and it was, you know, maybe a little bit
- 7:29about, hey, it's a new offense, we got some new language on the board.
- 7:31And alm- almost JSN being like, "Why do we need all this new language?
- 7:35It's the same thing," you know?
- 7:36Yeah.
- 7:37which is also a breadcrumb that it's, in his eyes, it's the same thing, but
- 7:42we're a couple of episodes in now, and there's been a smidgen of Brian Fleury.
- 7:47And I don't think it's 'cause Brian Fleury's boring or, you know,
- 7:50hard to listen to, I think it's 'cause there's not a story there.
- 7:53You know, like- Yeah … there's not, there's not a story to dig up there,
- 7:56which you were just alluding to.
- 7:58And I think that's a big freaking story in and of itself is like,
- 8:01dude, we have a brand new OC.
- 8:03Yes, it's a similar system, but it's not the same thing.
- 8:07And, and if the offense is looking this good, and I'm not trying to get hyperbolic
- 8:12about it or get overexcited, although I do like to get excited, it just lends itself
- 8:17that it's, it's looking very positive for sure that we'll be able to pick up where
- 8:23we were towards the end of last year.
- 8:25I'll say all that with the caveat of, Adam, if, this is, this is
- 8:31basically without pads or with pads where you really can't rush the passer,
- 8:34if we could run the damn football.
- 8:36And I don't know that yet.
- 8:37I don't know that yet.
- 8:39Adam: No.
- 8:39And I'm not sure that we're gonna know that answer until, or begin to
- 8:44know that answer till about week four.
- 8:45Clinton: Yeah, that's fair.
- 8:46Adam: I, I, I really don't know that you can be super declarative
- 8:48about anything till about week seven or eight for the most part.
- 8:51but- Anyways, the transition from Flurry, you know, Kubiak to Flurry
- 8:59seems to be one that has been seamless.
- 9:02I think their personalities are similar-ish from the
- 9:06little bit I've heard.
- 9:07Flurwy Taki's a little bit more verbose than, than Kubiak, but,
- 9:10you know, a pretty, pretty stoic guys, I, I would say.
- 9:15And look, I relate with JSN when it comes to the, it's all on the board,
- 9:21and he's like, "Yeah, I, I, I went up and I smashed the guy," you know?
- 9:25Yeah.
- 9:25Or whatever it was, like yeah, you, you're supposed to go
- 9:28Clinton: block, right?
- 9:28He was, he goes, something happened, he's like, "Then I do the safety
- 9:29thing," and he's like, "I did it."
- 9:30He's like- Yeah, he's
- 9:31Adam: like, "I did the thing.
- 9:32It's good."
- 9:32Yeah.
- 9:33"I don't give a [bleep] if it's called this or that or whatever.
- 9:35Why is this on the board?"
- 9:36Like, I, I think one of the things that frustrates me the most as a fan, about
- 9:41football and trying to understand football more each and every year is that the
- 9:45terminology is so different from team to team, player to player, like season- Yeah
- 9:50to season, and everybody uses those new terms as if, well, yeah, that's
- 9:54what it's always been called.
- 9:54What's your problem?
- 9:56And it's like- Right.
- 9:56Right … I, it drives me nuts, so I'm with JSN on this one,
- 10:00even if it, that was…
- 10:02The funny part is, is that was the, kind of the little moment in
- 10:06the show where they were trying to show, you know, coach saying, "Ah,
- 10:09he's the easiest superstar ever."
- 10:11Right.
- 10:11Right.
- 10:11And they'd be like, "Oh, and here's the friction."
- 10:13Correct.
- 10:13Right.
- 10:13And the friction is him, like, joking around about how he's tired of all
- 10:16the, the new terms, like oh boy.
- 10:19It, it does really illustrate just how, low-maintenance JSN is, and
- 10:23Clinton: it's great.
- 10:24Yeah.
- 10:24That, that's exactly.
- 10:25I, I wrote down, my notes were no drama, high growth JSN, you know?
- 10:30And, and then I wrote, hey, maybe more complexity in the offense w- w- during
- 10:34that conversation, but then throughout the whole show and two episodes, it's
- 10:38like, well, if there was a lot of friction there, they'd be featuring the
- 10:42OC, which they, they're not, you know?
- 10:44Right.
- 10:45So it's, it's- At least
- 10:45Adam: not yet.
- 10:46Yeah.
- 10:46Clinton: Yeah, exactly.
- 10:47At least not yet.
- 10:48All right.
- 10:48So look, we wanna remind folks, like, subscribe, all those things.
- 10:52It helps out a ton.
- 10:53Hit the, hit the likes and comment.
- 10:54Drop your comments.
- 10:55We wanna hear in the thread right now what was your favorite moment,
- 10:58your most surprising moment.
- 11:00Put those in the live thread.
- 11:01We'll talk about them.
- 11:02Adam, there was a lot to go.
- 11:04I've kinda led out so far with some of my favorite moments- Yeah … or at
- 11:07least ones that were on top of my mind.
- 11:10What were some of your favorite moments, biggest surprise, or the thing that
- 11:12you're really burning to talk about?
- 11:14Adam: Well, one of the first things that they started with at the very beginning of
- 11:17the episode, then they came back to it and showed the full interaction, is Mad Mike.
- 11:22Yes, dude.
- 11:23I love Mad Mike.
- 11:23Clinton: That, that opening.
- 11:24Are you kidding me?
- 11:25Adam: Oh my goodness, like, that was so entertaining- Yes … on so many levels.
- 11:30Like, when he's like, "You can bitch about it all you want.
- 11:33I don't care.
- 11:34Whatever.
- 11:35Turns out, I run the [bleep] practice."
- 11:37Clinton: Right.
- 11:38Right.
- 11:38Adam: Like, that was so great because- The, the side of Mike that
- 11:42we get, and that's the side he's supposed to present to- Correct
- 11:44you know, as the head coach.
- 11:46You know, mild-mannered, you know, all that stuff, right?
- 11:48But to see him tear into, you know, Derick Hall that way-
- 11:52Yeah … that was really fun.
- 11:54also, Derick Hall, stay away from the quarterback.
- 11:56Stay a- just stay away from the quarterback, please.
- 11:57Clinton: Right, right.
- 11:58Yeah.
- 11:58And I love the Adam Dirty, piece later where he's like, "Hey," you know, right?
- 12:03He's like, "Yep, gotcha, Mike."
- 12:04He's like, "And that's what makes him special."
- 12:06So like, you know, just that other, the balance of that side, right?
- 12:09The sober yin to the ridge of yang.
- 12:11And with all that, to go put it back on Macdonald.
- 12:14Also that idea of the, man, other, the probably 27 other teams being like, "I
- 12:19c- I can't believe this is what they had up, up there," the coaching, the culture.
- 12:24And that was the cold open that I was just like, "Oh my God."
- 12:28Like kudos to HBO.
- 12:30They know what they're doing.
- 12:31They've done it for a long time now, Adam.
- 12:33They know, they know drama.
- 12:34But boy, did they really pick a, a beautiful moment to just…
- 12:39Y- we do not get Coach Mike like that, but because…
- 12:43Wait, Adam, did the Rams win the Super Bowl?
- 12:46'Cause I keep hearing about the Rams because who won-
- 12:48Hmm … the Super Bowl last year?
- 12:49Adam: Oh, that'd been us.
- 12:50Who- oh- Adam … when you said, "Have the Rams won the
- 12:52Super Bowl," I was just checking.
- 12:53Oh, not yet.
- 12:54Clinton: No, no.
- 12:54Okay.
- 12:55Right.
- 12:55Adam: No.
- 12:55Clinton: Not yet either.
- 12:56No.
- 12:56So winners, winners get sprinkles.
- 12:58We got, we get hard knocks, and we get Coach Mike like that, and it's
- 13:04just really cool to see because- Yeah
- 13:06last episode we saw the honest conversation where he had to go check was
- 13:09it, was it Bra- r- Brady Russell, right?
- 13:10Yeah.
- 13:10Where Russell was getting into it with Derick Hall.
- 13:13So Derick Hall is kind of in the mix of all, quite a bit of,
- 13:15the drama so far, right?
- 13:17And again- Yeah … HBO has the cameras and they have the editors.
- 13:20They'll do what they want with that.
- 13:21so but we saw Coach Mike, a different side of Coach Mike,
- 13:25having a very quick and, and could be difficult for some people conversation,
- 13:30but called it out, nip it in the bud.
- 13:32Let's hug it out.
- 13:32We love each other.
- 13:33This one was like he, he, he comes back and explains it and says, "Look,
- 13:38I gave him kind of a warning, you know, a little bit more politely- Mm-hmm
- 13:42the first time, and it didn't seem to stick, so I, I had to go there."
- 13:48very interesting and just the intensity was…
- 13:52It was r- it was, it's refreshing because it wasn't
- 13:55like crass for the sake of crass.
- 13:57It was like, no, no, no.
- 13:58No.
- 13:58He had to get a point across about quarterbacks in the NFL,
- 14:02and I think he did it effectively.
- 14:03Adam: Yeah, you really did.
- 14:04And one of the things I've been enjoying about Hard Knocks as a
- 14:07whole is just, look, the, these are grown-ass men talking to grown-ass men.
- 14:12And, like, y- just- Yeah … direct, honest, you know, at it.
- 14:17If there's a few cuss words dropped in there, like, yes, thank God.
- 14:20Like, can we all just talk to each other like that every day?
- 14:23Like, I, I mean, it'd probably be a little filthier in terms of the language,
- 14:26but you know, we'd probably get to the bottom of things a lot quicker.
- 14:29I do really enjoy that.
- 14:32and it also shows Mike's fairness a little bit too- Yeah … in that scene,
- 14:35just the idea of like, "Yeah, I gave him a warning, and, they didn't take it.
- 14:39And then, all right, that's fine, but you ain't walking all over me, and
- 14:42you're not walking all over my practice, and you're not hurting my quarterback.
- 14:44I don't care if we just paid you.
- 14:46I don't care how tall your truck is.
- 14:47Get your ass- … and sit on the sideline."
- 14:49And I love it.
- 14:51Clinton: Did you catch, so Mike Macdonald, when they revisit- revisited it a
- 14:55little bit later, he dropped a really great, a really great homage line.
- 15:00Did you happen to hear what he dropped and, and who he was referencing?
- 15:04Adam: Mm-mm.
- 15:04Clinton: When he was talking about the Derick Hall thing.
- 15:06So he c- he ends up calling Derick Hall later.
- 15:09He doesn't say it exactly this way, but he basically calls him a, a, a
- 15:12habitual line stepper- Yeah … which is directly from the Chappelle's Show.
- 15:16So like it's- Oh, is it?
- 15:17Okay … it's, it's, Chappelle was talking about, what is it, the
- 15:20Charlie Murphy episode when he was talking about- Mm-hmm … Rick James.
- 15:24And he, and it's, it's like, you know, "Rick James is a
- 15:25habitual line stepper," right?
- 15:27So kinda cool because I picked it up and I'm like, "Oh my gosh."
- 15:31The, an- one more reason to, to like Mike Macdonald.
- 15:34Yeah.
- 15:34He recognizes that the Chappelle's Show is on the podium for best,
- 15:38best comedies I think ever created.
- 15:40All right.
- 15:40So we talked Macdonald, the cold open, we talked Derick Hall.
- 15:44What else struck you, dude?
- 15:45Adam: just on a small scale, I'll slip this one in here real quick.
- 15:48All you folks out there in Spokane, Ernest Jones has your back.
- 15:51Yeah.
- 15:51yeah.
- 15:52Yeah.
- 15:52Like, whoever started that fire, we're gonna kick their ass.
- 15:55Like, I was like, "Ooh, okay."
- 15:57Clinton: Well, I think they- Like- … I think they found the dude who started
- 15:59the fire unfortunately, right?
- 16:00Mm-hmm.
- 16:00So yeah.
- 16:00Adam: Yeah, Ernest Jones will be looking for him too, so, look out, you
- 16:03know, tough break for that guy.
- 16:05Like- Yeah … I, I don't want Ernest Jones hunting me- No … that's for sure.
- 16:08Clinton: No,
- 16:08Adam: no.
- 16:08But I, I think that's pretty cool, and it kinda ties into one of the bigger things
- 16:12right at the end of the episode, and it's actually- Yes … been in the first
- 16:14two total, is Mike's, like, mindfulness of, "Hey, go take care of the 12s."
- 16:21Clinton: Yeah,
- 16:21Adam: absolutely.
- 16:21"Go take care of the 12s."
- 16:22Like, he, he says that a lot and, like, keeping all of us in mind, knowing
- 16:27that, like, hey, you're, you're the guys that make all this possible by
- 16:30your interest and your hard-earned money and all of that, right?
- 16:33And- Obviously … your love and the way that you guys travel as a fan
- 16:37base and support us and all that.
- 16:40And just making sure that the, the- whole team takes the time
- 16:45to go out and appreciate the fans the way that we appreciate them.
- 16:48And I wonder, you talked a couple times now of the, you know, 27
- 16:53other teams going like, "Really?"
- 16:55Like- Yeah … "We don't do that here."
- 16:56Like, I feel like that's one of those.
- 16:59Clinton: I absolut- well, I think that's probably not the
- 17:01culture in, in every place.
- 17:04I think that's an element for, like absolutely for sure, like one
- 17:08of the elements of just like that go into the cauldron of why this
- 17:10is a better place to play and live.
- 17:13And we could talk about Leo, 'cause that was also just, "Hey, let's show
- 17:15more great- greatness of why you wanna move to the PNW and get out, get out
- 17:19of, you know, the East Coast where I've lived my entire life," right?
- 17:22but it, it is all wrapped into culture.
- 17:26Even when he's talking to the Spurs head coach- Yeah … he's talking
- 17:29about, he's talking about culture.
- 17:31But the other moment that came out for me that was a pure culture moment was,
- 17:35actually a couple more, but one in, one very specifically early on too, is
- 17:40you get the fight between, between Mason Richman and Riley Mills, right?
- 17:45And Riley gets a little- Yeah … heated.
- 17:47He's all locked up.
- 17:48Mason's doing a nice job, by the way.
- 17:50It's cool to talk about the, the moments in this thing, but I also
- 17:54like seeing Mason Richman locking up a big dude like Riley Mills.
- 17:57Like, that was a great, great session, great 101, won it clearly.
- 18:01Love seeing that because can't have enough good offensive linemen, and
- 18:04we know Riley Mills is already good.
- 18:06So, so Riley Mills takes that kind of swing, but then they purposely show
- 18:11the entire room re-watching it, Adam.
- 18:14Mm-hmm.
- 18:14And they go kind of bananas when they see the swing to the helmet.
- 18:17But then, they could have left it there or berated a player in front
- 18:21of, you know, 100 different people.
- 18:22But no, Adam, what did they do as a team to, to settle it?
- 18:27Adam: they blew out rotator cuffs, or at least that's what it would do to me.
- 18:30they, picking up sledges and, one in each hand and
- 18:34having to hold it out, you know, a- and see who drops it first.
- 18:37And, I think, so that's a cool way to go about it- Yeah … number one, in
- 18:42terms of, "Hey, let's settle this.
- 18:44here's another form of competition," right?
- 18:47Yep.
- 18:47I think the other cool thing about it is, just how much the team was into it.
- 18:52Clinton: Yes.
- 18:53Adam: 100%.
- 18:53Like, they were into it.
- 18:55So, like they found something that, you know, like touched for the team, you know?
- 18:59It was something that connected, and that was really cool.
- 19:02the other thing about it is Riley Mills is a stone cold dude, man.
- 19:07Dude.
- 19:07Like the whole time he's doing that, he's just kind of looking
- 19:09over like- He's smiling.
- 19:10Clinton: He's smirking, right?
- 19:11I mean, we sat next to him.
- 19:12"I can do this all
- 19:13Adam: day."
- 19:13Yeah.
- 19:13Clinton: We were, yeah, we were, we were at the casino with him, for the draft
- 19:17party and, you know, we have an interview with him on, on our YouTube channel.
- 19:20Go check that out.
- 19:21Yeah.
- 19:21And great dude, big guy- And y- the moment that competition was
- 19:27starting, I was like, "Well, I bet Mason Richman's a strong dude."
- 19:31I was like, "But I don't think Riley Mills loses this i- in a, in 10 out of 10 times.
- 19:35I just…
- 19:35100 out of 100 times, or 99 out of 100."
- 19:38I was like, "I just don't think so," because-
- 19:40Adam: Yeah
- 19:40Clinton: he just has that big boy strength, you know?
- 19:44He has that- Yeah … u- that unk strength, but he's a young man.
- 19:47So I'm really excited to see that, progress into the year.
- 19:51But it was kinda nice too because, again, took a negative, turned into a huge net
- 19:55team positive, and Riley Mills comes out the hero for the room, although he
- 20:00was kind of the villain on the field.
- 20:01But again, their form of hugging it out, which I thought was really, really cool.
- 20:05So, that was…
- 20:06It was…
- 20:06Yeah, he definitely was smirking, looking right the entire time.
- 20:09Yes, he's checking to see, you know, where, how Mason's
- 20:13doing, but he was smiling.
- 20:15Yeah.
- 20:16A little diabolical, dude.
- 20:17It
- 20:17Adam: was cold, man.
- 20:18Clinton: Yeah.
- 20:18It was
- 20:18Adam: cold.
- 20:19Clinton: Yeah.
- 20:19Yeah, yeah
- 20:20… Adam: so Marlon here says, "Now I know the shadow boxing thing," and I
- 20:23did wanna kinda- Great, yes … touch on that 'cause, I'm still not
- 20:26sure I completely understand it.
- 20:28so whichever way they move their hand, if the dude looks the same
- 20:31way they move their hand- Right, it's, it's just- … then game over?
- 20:34Clinton: Yes, I get, I get it now too.
- 20:35well, at least I'm getting it now too.
- 20:37Last week I think I did call it stupid, so, I, I reserve
- 20:41the right to get better myself.
- 20:43And- But now people can get better.
- 20:46and yeah, that, but that was it exactly.
- 20:49You wanna get them moving in the direction you're pointing.
- 20:52And so if they move any- Yeah
- 20:53other way, they're kind of free I think.
- 20:54I don't think you gotta be exactly opposite.
- 20:56Right.
- 20:57You just can't be going their direction, and it's gotta be
- 20:58three in, in suc- succession-
- 21:00Adam: All right
- 21:01… Clinton: to win the round.
- 21:01So, but again-
- 21:03Adam: So, so this increased your opinion of it?
- 21:06Clinton: Well, it, it increased the m- the importance of the team who gets around it.
- 21:11Like as a culture- Right.
- 21:12Okay … they like it, and that's what they do, and maybe it's a reflex thing.
- 21:15And I like the idea where they said, "Well, you know, we got running backs
- 21:18going against defensive back coaches," like when they ta- well, not the
- 21:21exact- Yeah … example they gave, but I'm all about that kinda stuff.
- 21:25I'm all about, like Mike Macdonald last year was like, "Hey, pair up
- 21:29with somebody and go take every d- every week go take a walk with them,
- 21:32and go learn about them as a human."
- 21:34Yeah.
- 21:35With the, with the, with the forethought that if you learn about
- 21:38somebody as a human, you're just gonna care more deeply about them, and- Yeah
- 21:42that means a lot when you're, when you're going i- into hard stuff
- 21:47with somebody on a day-to-day basis.
- 21:49To me, it's just an extension of, of that, goodness.
- 21:54So in that regard, yes.
- 21:57Adam: Yeah.
- 21:57Yeah, I mean, if it does, you know, bring the type of bonding
- 22:00that it seems to, then great.
- 22:02I thought it was more like fake fighting.
- 22:05so this, this looks like some silly TikTok dance to me.
- 22:10And so I lost respect a little bit for it, but you know, hey, if it's good for the…
- 22:13It's good for the team and good for the guys and they enjoy
- 22:15it, then, all the better.
- 22:17you know, it's interesting 'cause, you know, we're going through some
- 22:20of the topics here, Clayton- Yeah
- 22:22and, I, all of a sudden we've got a few things popping up here from, Mike-
- 22:29Clinton: Yep, we got Michael Knight.
- 22:31I'm not sure if Adam froze or if it's me, but- Oh … for, for me, Adam
- 22:35froze there for a second, and Michael Knight's saying that the biggest
- 22:38star so far was Derick Hall's truck, and I know, Adam, you got takes on that.
- 22:41Adam: Yeah.
- 22:42So, That's a truck a person could own.
- 22:47it's a pavement princess.
- 22:50Clinton: - I think it's sweet.
- 22:50I, for the record- N- no … I think that truck is sweet.
- 22:53Adam: No.
- 22:54No.
- 22:54Th- that's the type of truck that gets you laughed out of the state of Montana.
- 22:58Like, what is that thing?
- 23:00It's a little Montana.
- 23:01Like, I don't understand at all.
- 23:01Like, and then not only that, but then they keep saying he built it.
- 23:04He did not build the freaking truck.
- 23:06The truck was built in Detroit.
- 23:08He assembled parts onto the truck.
- 23:10If you wanna build a car, do something like my dad did when he was a
- 23:13teenager, pull a Model T out of the riverbank and build a [bleep] car.
- 23:17That's a, you assembled a, a truck.
- 23:20It's like all the Jeep guys who, like, have their Wranglers and
- 23:23they're like, "Ooh, I built my Jeep."
- 23:25The [bleep] you did.
- 23:26You went and bought the fricking Jeep and then bolted some crap on.
- 23:29Whoop-de-fricking-doo.
- 23:31Thirdly, about the pavement princess truck, and I just, I
- 23:33can't stand this thing, all right?
- 23:35Like, I literally can't.
- 23:36look, Derick Hall, you ever wanna go in the woods?
- 23:38Let's go take a drive in the woods and we'll see who goes further, because
- 23:41I promise you, I will run [bleep] circles around you in my Jeep Cherokee.
- 23:45What a joke of a thing.
- 23:47I can't stand it.
- 23:48It's all glitz and glamour.
- 23:49It doesn't do one thing well.
- 23:52It- I don't like it
- 23:53… Clinton: it's not meant to do anything well except for
- 23:56look fricking awesome, Adam.
- 23:58And if you don't think it does- It's shiny … and if you don't think it
- 23:59does, that's, that's your prerogative.
- 24:01Adam: Yeah.
- 24:02Clinton: However, for a dude that has wanted a, a pickup truck since,
- 24:05you know, squinting and watching Marty McFly, what was that, a Toyota, like, RJ?
- 24:09It,
- 24:10Adam: yeah, it w- it was the first, Toyota pickup.
- 24:13Like, yeah.
- 24:13It was right before the Tacoma.
- 24:14Clinton: Yeah, exactly.
- 24:15So ever since seeing that and wanting a pickup, and I still haven't had one, I'm
- 24:1948 years old, what am I doing already?
- 24:21that truck is fricking awesome.
- 24:23So we're, we're gonna have to, you know, disagree with each other on that one.
- 24:27He's not gonna- I
- 24:27Adam: might be, I
- 24:28Clinton: might be in the
- 24:28Adam: minority on this
- 24:29Clinton: one … he's not gonna take it into the woods.
- 24:30That's not where it's going.
- 24:31He's picking- Then why, then why
- 24:32Adam: own a goddamn truck?
- 24:34Clinton: Because it's gorgeous.
- 24:34Like, is he gonna put
- 24:35Adam: some plywood in the
- 24:35Clinton: back?
- 24:36Because you can.
- 24:37Because America, baby.
- 24:38He's gonna get a 24 ounce- All right … vanilla latte, I think that's what he
- 24:41ordered from that nice lady at that little stand there- Sounded delicious.
- 24:44Yeah … it was, it did sound really good, actually.
- 24:46And that's what he's gonna do with that truck and drive
- 24:48around Seattle with his mods.
- 24:50Now, I do wanna say- Yeah … if you don't like the, if you don't like the truck,
- 24:53what do you think about his DH1 Percent?
- 24:56I kinda like that as a logo.
- 24:57That's pretty dope.
- 24:58Pretty good, right?
- 24:59Adam: That's really good.
- 24:59Right?
- 25:00That's well done.
- 25:00And look, I do give him a lot of credit for actually going out there
- 25:04and turning some wrenches on the thing.
- 25:05Like, I, I give him a ton of credit for that.
- 25:07Yeah.
- 25:07Like, instead of just being like, "Make me one of these."
- 25:10And, yeah.
- 25:12Clinton: I like, I like that HBO, so kudos again to the editors
- 25:16and then the, the show makers there for making sure they talked about
- 25:21Derick Hall's past and, you know- Yeah
- 25:22being a preemie of, like, whatever it was, b- born so, so pre-born and getting
- 25:27a chance to, to live a, you know, really at, at that level, getting the chance, and
- 25:32then making the life that he has of it.
- 25:34And hey, if he's got a DH1 Percent and that, he's got, and he gives back for,
- 25:39for that cause- And it's on HBO.
- 25:41I'm just like, "Cool."
- 25:42That, that's all…
- 25:43Those are good, good, cool things.
- 25:45And the logo and the whole emblem, I thought it was all well done.
- 25:48So, and he had it on the, he had it on the hubcaps- Yeah … so it
- 25:50was, like, on the wheels, I guess.
- 25:51Adam: Mm-hmm.
- 25:52Clinton: So I was, at least I was pretty impressed with that stuff.
- 25:54I, I, like, I'm a marketing guy, so you're gonna get me with that
- 25:57kind of stuff all the time, Adam.
- 25:59Adam: Oh, yeah, man.
- 26:00And there wa- there was plenty of marketing things, in this show,
- 26:03Clinton- Yeah … including the M.O.B.
- 26:04is good.
- 26:05Clinton: All the time.
- 26:07Adam: All the time, Clinton.
- 26:08Clinton: The M.O.B.
- 26:09is good.
- 26:10That's
- 26:10Adam: right.
- 26:10Clinton: Hey, we did not yet…
- 26:12This was a pretty big storyline.
- 26:14They ended the episode with it.
- 26:17It was kind of about two-thirds of the way through, and I was like,
- 26:21"I know it's hard knocks, and I know this is why people tune in."
- 26:24I also was like, "I can't believe they're actually discussing
- 26:28this, and at the way they are."
- 26:31basically, "Hey, is, is Terrion Arnold getting
- 26:33signed by us by tomorrow or so?
- 26:36Because it sure seems that we're quite interested in
- 26:40bringing that man into Seattle."
- 26:42Adam: Yeah, it does.
- 26:44it- I thank, I, all right.
- 26:47If you, I'm thinking about this and why would you show that on Hard Knocks
- 26:51and allow that to go out and, you know, kind of show the way the sausage is
- 26:55made from the player personnel side.
- 26:58And I think for somebody like Terrion Arnold, who has a
- 27:01lot of serious charges, but-
- 27:03Clinton: Yeah
- 27:04… Adam: also, too, like in terms of serious charges are some of the
- 27:06more understandable ones I've, heard, like to this point.
- 27:11Clinton: Doesn't mean, doesn't mean you can do it.
- 27:12It just, it- Exactly.
- 27:13Adam: I'm not
- 27:13Clinton: saying it was
- 27:14Adam: the right choice
- 27:14Clinton: if
- 27:14Adam: he, if he,
- 27:15Clinton: if he did it- If he did do it … and, and we do live in this, an innocent
- 27:17till proven guilty society, so let's rem- That's right … let's remember that.
- 27:20Adam: That's
- 27:21Clinton: right.
- 27:21If he did them kidnapping and such, not great.
- 27:24You, it turns out you can't just kidnap people if you think they stole from you.
- 27:27but- Right.
- 27:29Adam: What, what I will say is I do think that you release it in Hard
- 27:33Knocks this way so that it softens the blow with the fan base, because it
- 27:39shows them taking the time and really considering it and, and talking about,
- 27:43you know, "Hey, look, we do know what this looks like," and all of that.
- 27:48So, really interesting.
- 27:50Yeah.
- 27:51And I, but I do think it helps.
- 27:52I think it was good for PR if they do sign him by letting
- 27:56it go out on Hard Knocks like
- 27:57Clinton: that.
- 27:57Well, it's, it, we got, we even got Whistle Jacket, who is Lisa, saying,
- 28:00"I'm so conflicted about Terrion Arnold."
- 28:02I hear you, and we'll see.
- 28:05I, there's a, there's a high level of trust with the organization that
- 28:09they try, they really try to bring in what seems to be good people.
- 28:13And we haven't talked about Leo yet.
- 28:14Yeah.
- 28:14Let's talk about Leo in a second.
- 28:16but they really do seem to try to bring in high character people.
- 28:21So they've earned trust in my book at least, that it's like if they make a
- 28:25decision that, that he's, he is high character, and either it's a really
- 28:31bad episode and he's gonna somehow not, you know, not face, like, like
- 28:36criminal consequences, or he just didn't do it, which again, may- maybe,
- 28:40may- whatever the story is, I have zero idea, so I'm not gonna comment on it.
- 28:43Mm-hmm.
- 28:44But if they make that decision, I don't know, it's kind of like trusting
- 28:47John with the draft right now.
- 28:48Like, what, what am I g- what am I gonna do?
- 28:50You know?
- 28:50It's like I think, I think I would trust that they're, they're bringing
- 28:53in a good, a good person, hopefully.
- 28:56Now, I think it was interesting because you say what you just
- 29:00said about, hey, maybe softening it for the fan base, maybe.
- 29:03but it was like they did choose something from Schneider when he's
- 29:08talking, I for- I forget who was in the room with him at the time.
- 29:10But- Schneider was kinda talking about, well, how do we even position this?
- 29:15Like, is there, is there even an example we can go back to?
- 29:19You know, so I, it, it, to me it was kind of like it seemed like
- 29:22they were showing how they wanna politic it a little bit potentially.
- 29:25And I'm not even say- I'm not even putting that in a bad shadow,
- 29:28'cause that's the reality of, of the sensitivity around this.
- 29:31But I, I, I don't know.
- 29:32I think it could be a little bit of a, a backlash to be like, "I can't
- 29:36believe you guys are contemplating this guy," and, and, and kind
- 29:39of thinking about manipulating how are you gonna present this.
- 29:42Yeah.
- 29:43I think it could be interpreted that way if you want it, it to be.
- 29:46Adam: Sure.
- 29:46it's interesting to see the mixed reactions in the
- 29:50comments as well, you know?
- 29:51Like Marlon, "Low risk, good reward."
- 29:53Clinton: Yep.
- 29:53Adam: You know, Dogzilla's like, "Nah, he, he did it."
- 29:55It's like, okay, maybe.
- 29:56the, you know, Charlie the, the unicorn, the, you know, locker room risk.
- 30:00Amy's saying that she just, you know, completely trusts the
- 30:03process with John, and I get that.
- 30:05I agree with all of you at the same time.
- 30:09It…
- 30:10The, the thing about what happened with Terrion Arnold that night and
- 30:14the, the charges that came from it, it, there's three way, there's
- 30:18three categories of things- Mm-hmm
- 30:20in this world that you know are ha- when you feel like you know something.
- 30:24Things you believe, things you think you know, and then things you actually know.
- 30:29Mm-hmm.
- 30:29And this is in, everything about this so far is in the things I believe.
- 30:34Like the lowest category of those things, so very much a hard tell
- 30:38and not knowing sort of thing.
- 30:40And, you know, Milroe
- 30:45Clinton: did vouch for him.
- 30:45Right.
- 30:45Like, there's that, so.
- 30:45Well, he vouched for him as, as a person, as a character, right?
- 30:47As the point.
- 30:47And also-
- 30:48Adam: Yeah
- 30:48… Clinton: Ni- Nick Saban, he, Nick Saban r- literally wrote a character
- 30:52letter to the courts, in, after the whole incident happened, just
- 30:56said, "This is a very good human."
- 30:59Didn't, you know, not commenting on what may or may not have
- 31:01happened, just as a character witness of this is a good person.
- 31:05And Nick Saban does not have to go out of his way to do that.
- 31:08And then it was interesting- Yeah, he doesn't have to
- 31:09Adam: do anything
- 31:10Clinton: Not, exactly.
- 31:11Except for like, like whatever those other, the VRBO
- 31:13commercials he does, right?
- 31:14Yeah,
- 31:14Adam: just make up crazy rules for his VRBO.
- 31:16That's it.
- 31:16Clinton: That's all Nick's doing.
- 31:16That's it.
- 31:17Yeah.
- 31:17Just, make some, make some more money, dude.
- 31:18Keep ma- keep getting them checks, Nick.
- 31:20But it was interesting to hear them specifically, you know, bring up
- 31:24the Milroe piece and if you, the quote I wrote down, which I gotta
- 31:28tell you, kinda got me excited.
- 31:30He, he said, "He's just like Spoon."
- 31:33Adam: Yeah.
- 31:34Clinton: you know, so from a football player standpoint and a
- 31:38personality standpoint, I'm going to have to suspend the piece of the
- 31:43criminality, potential criminality, 'cause I don't know about it.
- 31:46Right.
- 31:47But from a football standpoint, inside the lines, which is where we watch football-
- 31:51Adam: Mm-hmm
- 31:51Clinton: I want more players like Spoon.
- 31:53So I kinda like that c- that quote, Adam.
- 31:55Adam: Yeah.
- 31:56And it's not a domestic violence situation either.
- 31:58Clinton: No.
- 31:59No, it's not.
- 31:59All
- 31:59Adam: right, so, you know,
- 32:00Clinton: some of the things- It's not good, though.
- 32:01W- what's, what he's, what he's charged with is se- is legitima- it's not good.
- 32:04All right, so let's-
- 32:04Adam: I can't say anything ain't good.
- 32:06Clinton: Dude, it's kidnapping.
- 32:07I mean, he's charged with kidnapping.
- 32:08Like, that is bad.
- 32:10Bad, bad, bad.
- 32:10Kid-
- 32:11Adam: kids nap all the time.
- 32:12I don't understand what the problem is.
- 32:14Like, I really don't.
- 32:15But hey-
- 32:15Clinton: Look, like, he's charged with something- … like you can't do it
- 32:16here- … very, very serious … I guess.
- 32:17I don't know.
- 32:17Yeah But I can't imagine NFL teams are, are looking at this guy if…
- 32:22Who was the guy, man?
- 32:23I'm, I'm not trying to piss on someone's grave.
- 32:25He's not dead.
- 32:26But the Raiders guy who went to jail.
- 32:28He, you know- Oh,
- 32:29Adam: Henry Ruggs?
- 32:29Clinton: Yeah, Henry.
- 32:30This, you know, so no one's, you know…
- 32:32it was obvious and, and there he goes.
- 32:35He goes to jail, and then, dude, hope the guy has some sort of a life.
- 32:38It sucks that he threw it away.
- 32:39but clearly it's not that situation, you know?
- 32:43O- otherwise, otherwise- Yeah … he wouldn't be visiting NFL teams at
- 32:46this par- this point of his career.
- 32:47Oh.
- 32:48Adam: I mean, if they're gonna give Deshaun Watson a big old trade and a
- 32:51giant guaranteed contract, I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter how guilty you
- 32:55are, until you're convicted, man, the, the NFL will give talented guys shots.
- 33:01Clinton: Remember when I mentioned 27 other teams would be
- 33:03jealous of what they're seeing?
- 33:04The Browns, Adam, are at the very, very…
- 33:07They have, let's put it this way- Yeah … the delta of jealousy is at the
- 33:10highest it could be with- Yeah … the Cleveland Browns organization because
- 33:14somehow, some way, Deshaun Watson- Deshaun
- 33:17is still freaking there.
- 33:18All right.
- 33:18I think I've got, I've got one more thing.
- 33:21I, I got
- 33:21Adam: two more things.
- 33:21Two more things.
- 33:22Clinton: You got two more?
- 33:22Okay.
- 33:23Why don't you go with yours and we'll see if it's mine.
- 33:25Adam: All right.
- 33:26Well, the biggest one, like, we, we keep joking about the MOB is good, right?
- 33:29And, like, the whole presentation.
- 33:31Like, we haven't talked about-
- 33:32Clinton: The whole time
- 33:32… Adam: you know, that whole moment.
- 33:33And what a cool thing by Mike to get the assistant, or position
- 33:37coaches involved- Yeah … and let them have their spiel, right?
- 33:40And how creative was that, number one?
- 33:42It's great.
- 33:42Like, it was great.
- 33:44It was hilarious, you know?
- 33:45Like, Mike in the robes, you know, and then he brought forth- Yes
- 33:48you know, the whatever
- 33:49Clinton: those- As Moses, right?
- 33:50Adam: Yeah, exactly.
- 33:51Clinton: Is that, that'd be Moses, yeah, with the tablets, yeah.
- 33:53Adam: Yeah.
- 33:54Yeah, exactly.
- 33:55so it, it was well done.
- 33:57It was super funny.
- 33:58C- Cla- C- Classities or whatever- Yes, yes … he retitled that, was hilarious.
- 34:03really cool.
- 34:04I do have one major concern, though.
- 34:06I think we might be boned for this year because we just committed
- 34:09blasphemy, and I'm very worried.
- 34:12Clinton: I, I, I know you very personally, and I know that you're very serious with
- 34:15that, with that, with that, comment.
- 34:17Very serious.
- 34:18Yeah.
- 34:18but it was, it was a lot of fun.
- 34:20It was a ton of fun to watch.
- 34:21And I love the idea, like you're bringing up, that Mike gives room for that-
- 34:27Adam: You
- 34:27Clinton: know, and, and I don't, and I don't get the sense that Mike, is like
- 34:31proofreading slides before they go live.
- 34:33Yeah.
- 34:34I think it's more like, "Hey, you wanna do something?
- 34:37I trust you, and if it falls flat in the room, well, then you're gonna
- 34:40have to answer to that as a coach."
- 34:42Yeah.
- 34:42And if it hits, well, then maybe we got something, right?
- 34:45So, okay.
- 34:47So the last thing I wanted to bring up, and then if you got- Yeah … if, if
- 34:49it's not yours, then, then please do.
- 34:51the warrior in the garden aspect, all cool.
- 34:55Sure.
- 34:55Good stuff.
- 34:56But, I love watching moment of zen Leo Williams.
- 35:00And again, it's a, it's an advertisement for the PNW.
- 35:03we get all that.
- 35:05But I also…
- 35:07We have Leo, who's coming up on…
- 35:09who's gonna be coming up on his last year, so the, the prospects of extending him.
- 35:13So hearing his wife talk about, you know, he contemplated retirement when he was
- 35:18in the craziness of the East Coast in New York, and now just being in this, let's,
- 35:24the environment he's in, the totality of the environment he now finds himself
- 35:29in, the family finds themselves in.
- 35:31To me, that doesn't point to somebody that is, like, burnt out and, like,
- 35:36needs to retire versus someone who is still, like, energized and
- 35:40wants to get the most out of it.
- 35:41Now, I'm projecting.
- 35:42I don't know these to be facts.
- 35:44If we go out and win a chip again, he might be like, "Dude,
- 35:47two in a row, like, great."
- 35:49I got fish
- 35:50Adam: to spear.
- 35:51Clinton: Right, right.
- 35:52You know?
- 35:52Yeah.
- 35:52And, and, and, you know, botany to go keep learning.
- 35:54But he…
- 35:56I don't get the sense that that dude is, like, at the
- 35:58end of any sort of rope, Adam.
- 36:01Adam: Yeah.
- 36:01There's a peacefulness to, his life, his mentality, everything- Yeah … that
- 36:07really does just jump off the screen.
- 36:10And they did make it a point, you know, when they were talking with him and
- 36:12his wife about their time in New York, and him saying that, you know, the…
- 36:17And I had a hard time relating to this because he's like, "Oh, the hustle
- 36:19and the bustle of New York, like that was burning out my nervous system."
- 36:21I was like, "Yes.
- 36:22Yes that."
- 36:23Yeah.
- 36:23Like I get that.
- 36:24He's like, "But now I'm here in Seattle and like I- I'm totally chill and zen."
- 36:27I'm like, dude, Seattle burns out my nervous system.
- 36:30Like I, I get- Well, you know,
- 36:30Clinton: you're, you're on a different level of zen than I think, a different
- 36:33plane than Leo might be, right?
- 36:34So.
- 36:34Adam: Def- definitely not zen, but definitely- … a different level
- 36:37of hermit, like that's for sure.
- 36:38so, but it does seem that the vibe of the city, the vibe of the West Coast…
- 36:45I mean, he's West Coast man, right?
- 36:46Yeah.
- 36:47Like- USC, right … through and through.
- 36:48Yeah.
- 36:48Like he just has that aura around him.
- 36:51Pretty cool.
- 36:52The other thing with him growing the plants that he grows, if you
- 36:54haven't checked it out on his YouTube channel, it's impressive.
- 36:56Clinton: Yeah, it's great.
- 36:57Adam: so if Leo Williams does happen to hear this, which
- 37:00he won't, but l- if he did-
- 37:01Clinton: He will
- 37:01… Adam: - He
- 37:02Clinton: definitely will
- 37:02… Adam: send help.
- 37:03I need help.
- 37:04Like we're, our gardening stuff is, is a struggle.
- 37:07I, I need Leo Williams, I need him tomorrow.
- 37:09Like I, 'cause we're, we're struggling.
- 37:11Clinton: Well, the good news is he's clearly a fan.
- 37:13He'll hear it.
- 37:14We- we're putting up the bat signal or the, the botany signal.
- 37:16He'll…
- 37:17What would the botany signal look like?
- 37:18Now it's gotta involve Leo- Yeah … but it also needs a plant.
- 37:21I'm not gonna, you know,-
- 37:23Adam: Yeah
- 37:23… Clinton: we're not gonna fix that right now, but we'll put
- 37:25that into put that out there if somebody wants to think about that.
- 37:27It's a
- 37:27Adam: tree silhouette.
- 37:28You don't have to overthink this.
- 37:29This
- 37:30Clinton: is easy.
- 37:30No, no.
- 37:30Okay.
- 37:30Okay.
- 37:31Yeah, but I want a little bit of Leo in there too.
- 37:33Like, can we get the Leo pump and it's a tree somehow?
- 37:36Like could an evergreen also be this?
- 37:38I think so.
- 37:39Adam: Yeah.
- 37:40Clinton: Right?
- 37:40Yeah.
- 37:40I think you're onto something.
- 37:40'Cause it's forming- Yeah
- 37:42this is forming the, the bottoms of the evergreen, yeah?
- 37:43Adam: Derick Hall better look out.
- 37:44Clinton's starting to workshop- Oh … a better logo for Leo here.
- 37:47Oh, [bleep].
- 37:47Yeah.
- 37:47Clinton: I did it.
- 37:48I did it.
- 37:48Yeah.
- 37:48Well, that was my last.
- 37:50You said you had two.
- 37:51Yeah.
- 37:51Was that the one- Yeah … or you got one more?
- 37:52Adam: One more, and this is the even worry stuff.
- 37:55And-
- 37:55Clinton: Oh, yes.
- 37:55I forgot.
- 37:56Yeah
- 37:56… Adam: you know, we started out last episode, he's on a scooter, you know-
- 37:59Mm-hmm … talking to Coach Mike.
- 38:01Then the next time we see him in this episode, you know, he's
- 38:04walking around on a cane, you know?
- 38:05Little cane and boot.
- 38:06Yeah.
- 38:07Clinton: Little cane and boot.
- 38:07Yep.
- 38:07Yep.
- 38:07Adam: Yeah.
- 38:07He's pimp strutting with his cane- Beautiful
- 38:09i- in the boot.
- 38:11and then in the pool and walking around, and in the last shot
- 38:15he's in a mini boot and no cane.
- 38:17Clinton: Mm-hmm.
- 38:17Adam: Like, so you're seeing this progression really quickly over
- 38:21the course of a couple weeks, and I think that- You know, non-update
- 38:26update, makes me feel better about where things are going for Nick.
- 38:29Clinton: For sure.
- 38:30So i- and that's, hey, if you're watching the show in a vacuum, correct.
- 38:34Then we get the add-on layer that as of today he passes physical,
- 38:38and now he can start- Ooh … Oh yeah, he passed his physical today.
- 38:41He can begin practice.
- 38:42You know how, you know how…
- 38:44And they're still saying, hey, not a guarantee for week one, but, but the,
- 38:48the entire time, the en- my understanding is the entire time from his surgery
- 38:53on was, hey, if you do it now, you have a good shot to play week one.
- 38:58So they did it with, with the, with the notion, but that's with a healthy
- 39:01rehab and things going basically right.
- 39:03So knock on all the woods, so far so good.
- 39:07It's not a guarantee he'll be ready for the Patriots game, because we gotta
- 39:10play on a Wednesday, Adam, because we won the Super Bowl, and they're giving
- 39:13us the first home game this year, and it's a Wednesday because those stupid
- 39:17Rams who didn't win the Super Bowl have gotta go all the way to Australia
- 39:20to play a game on Thursday, which is actually Friday in, in Australia.
- 39:24But we get to s- play a home game, Adam, on a Wednesday.
- 39:27So we lose one extra day to get Evan Warrey ready.
- 39:30I don't think that'll matter.
- 39:31Hmm.
- 39:31But he passes his physical today, and, you know, knowing him as a y- as a
- 39:37young dude, athletes heal pretty quick.
- 39:40And, you know, he's gonna give every single effort he possibly
- 39:42can to be ready for the Patriots.
- 39:43And you know what?
- 39:44If he's not, and it's week two or it's week three I think it's okay,
- 39:49'cause I think we go Patriots, Cardinals, then somebody else
- 39:54that's not that great, I wanna say.
- 39:57I'll, I'll look it up.
- 39:58But, but yeah.
- 39:59But so I'm glad it gave you some, the good feelings to see him
- 40:03progressing even in one episode.
- 40:05Adam: Yeah.
- 40:06And so those were just kinda good vibes there, no doubt about it, and, you know,
- 40:11a fun, a fun episode all the way around.
- 40:14And it does make it easy to be a fan and proud of this football
- 40:18team, you know- Yeah … beyond the championship and all of that.
- 40:21yeah, pretty cool, man.
- 40:24Cool stuff.
- 40:25Clinton: It was a ton of fun.
- 40:26Yeah, we, we do go Patriots week one, Cardinals week two- Yeah … Commanders,
- 40:30the Tunsil-less Commanders, week three.
- 40:34Adam: Yeah.
- 40:34Clinton: So, hey, if even Mario joins us, back at any of
- 40:37those games, I think we'll be A-OK.
- 40:40I am so excited that we have well over 150 people joining
- 40:43us live- Yeah … right now.
- 40:46So please hit the like, hit those subscribes.
- 40:48When it goes, when this is done being live, drop your comments back
- 40:52in the episode, 'cause that drives the algorithm bananas in a good way.
- 40:56And if you wanna go to getintheflock.com,
- 40:57become a member of the flock, join the Discord, do that as well.
- 41:01Adam, we're gonna have a big week this week.
- 41:03I think we have Josh Height tomorrow, who was at the, at the scrimmage, so
- 41:07he's gonna be on with us tomorrow night.
- 41:09And then Saturday, Adam, we get real Seahawks football.
- 41:14Seahawks versus Cowboys, week one of the preseason.
- 41:19I'm excited for it.
- 41:20Adam: I'm excited for it.
- 41:21I wanted to know, did you wanna touch on, you know, some of the news from
- 41:24around the division before we got off?
- 41:26You had mentioned that today.
- 41:26Clinton: Oh, sure.
- 41:27We can…
- 41:27Wait, let, let's fir- let's- Okay.
- 41:28Well then,
- 41:29Adam: like, yeah, let's do that then, 'cause,-
- 41:30Clinton: Wait, let's, let's first address this.
- 41:31We got…
- 41:31We, let's- Yeah, yeah, yeah … we got Merc, MercBlue0.
- 41:33Yeah.
- 41:34"These guys are amateurs."
- 41:36Hey.
- 41:36Yeah.
- 41:36Hey, Merc, you're right
- 41:39Adam: Yeah, I mean, kinda right I mean- Semipro at the very least.
- 41:41But if we- Yeah
- 41:41really wanna talk about amateurs, let's talk about the Santa Clara Substations.
- 41:45Clinton: Yeah.
- 41:46Let's do that first.
- 41:47Let's t- Yeah … let's talk about the Substation.
- 41:49so look, the news today, if you didn't catch it yet, was that Bosa,
- 41:54i- on his knee that he had surgery on, is not, he's now got tendonitis on
- 41:59that knee, and now it's not, hey, day to day, or he'll be back in a week.
- 42:03They're putting already Nick Bosa at week to week, Adam, which,
- 42:08that ain't good early, dude.
- 42:11Adam: No.
- 42:11It, that's not the only one, right?
- 42:14I mean, Mike Evans has been hurting and missing practice.
- 42:16I saw a report today that Christian McCaffrey has
- 42:20missed two practices in a row.
- 42:23Yes.
- 42:23Yeah.
- 42:23And, you know, Mike Shanahan's face is still, like, you know, healing.
- 42:27And so there's all of that as well.
- 42:29and not only that, but the Bosa stuff, it's not just the
- 42:32leg, it's the back apparently.
- 42:34And so, like- Yeah … we, and you know, we all know the leg bone's
- 42:37connected to the back bone and all
- 42:38Clinton: that stuff.
- 42:38Correct.
- 42:38That's where I was going too.
- 42:39But- I held it back … yeah … I was like, "He's still talking.
- 42:41He's still talking.
- 42:41Let the man talk."
- 42:42Yeah.
- 42:42Adam: Yeah.
- 42:42so at the end of the day, you know, it doesn't look good for
- 42:47a guy who's consistently injured, a team that's consistently injured,
- 42:50and I think I saw the other day 20% of the roster didn't practice.
- 42:56Like- It was like- You know
- 42:57… Clinton: yeah, out of 90 there was like tw- 20 out of s- 90
- 42:59something was down, right?
- 43:01So it was something like that.
- 43:0320 something percent was already dinged up in the, in the pre-season,
- 43:07which is hefty, hefty, hefty.
- 43:09it's just, I, I don't know what…
- 43:11Look, the Substation, I know it's a joke, I know it's a running thing.
- 43:16At some point, you know, they got Greg Cohen out there being
- 43:18like, "At some point, should we actually just move this damn thing?"
- 43:22Even if it's just, you know, just in their heads, Adam.
- 43:26Adam: It's so hilarious.
- 43:27Like, this is the hubris of the NFL, like, it, that just kinda pops out here.
- 43:31They're like, "We'll just move the substation."
- 43:33It's like- Move the substation … or, or I don't know, maybe, maybe move practice.
- 43:37Like- Move
- 43:37Clinton: the substation?
- 43:38Yeah, let's move- You
- 43:39Adam: know how hard that is to do?
- 43:40Clinton: Let- Yeah … let's move, let's move, you know, all that
- 43:42capital and critical infrastructure versus a 100-yard field with a
- 43:45little bit of space around it.
- 43:47Adam: Yeah.
- 43:47Yeah.
- 43:48I mean, I, 'cause I've heard people say, like, "Well, how come they haven't
- 43:51done anything about the substation?
- 43:52How come they haven't taken care of it?"
- 43:53It's like, what are you talking about?
- 43:55Like, that's the thing that steps down the voltage so all y'all have power out there.
- 43:58Clinton: I would hope they just mean, you know, move the field elsewhere,
- 44:01but by taking care of it, it's because, yeah, you're not moving-
- 44:03Adam: Oh, no,
- 44:04Clinton: people
- 44:04Adam: are talking about it like, you know, you still need the practice
- 44:06facility next to the, you know, the Seahawks', south stadium, Lumen South.
- 44:10Clinton: Yeah.
- 44:10Adam: Yeah, yeah.
- 44:10but so the, the substation's the thing that has to go, you know?
- 44:14Clinton: Oh, my goodness.
- 44:14Well, people are dumb-dumbs.
- 44:15Mem- remember, 50% of the people are, under average.
- 44:20Adam: That's true.
- 44:20but it's more like 80, but don't worry about it.
- 44:22The math, little math there, don't make no never mind.
- 44:25So- I mean, I probably one of them, but yeah
- 44:26Clinton: yep, so that was, that was some of the news.
- 44:28Back on our side, since we're covering news, we talked about Eden Verrett,
- 44:32passing his, passing his physical.
- 44:34Very unfortunately, Robbie Ouzts, our, our second year fullback, he goes on IR.
- 44:39He's out for the entire year.
- 44:41I just talked about this on the last episode with Brandan, and
- 44:44we went through I was just going through just, just the, the size
- 44:49and athleticism of, of him as…
- 44:51You, I was- Yeah … I was on with you.
- 44:53No, it was me and you.
- 44:53Brandan was like on vacation.
- 44:54Oh, it was all of us, wasn't it?
- 44:55Yeah.
- 44:55I forget.
- 44:56Or, I don't know.
- 44:56But we were talking about Robbie Ouzts- Our Tom … and we talk about, you
- 44:59know, we talk about the, the potential replacements with Lampy, and of course
- 45:03Brady Russell still being there.
- 45:04Look, he's out for the year.
- 45:05It's terrible.
- 45:06We hope he gets healthy, A1, and could come back and play football.
- 45:11I actually look at this as a pretty big loss in a offense that is,
- 45:14that Fleury wants to run, because I think, I think Ouzts was a pretty
- 45:20special talent athletically, and I don't think we have that type of
- 45:23dude on the roster at this point.
- 45:24I, I don't know how you feel.
- 45:26Adam: I guess I look at it like this, is that last year Ouzts
- 45:31was, when he was healthy, used about 25% of the offensive snaps.
- 45:36So-
- 45:36Clinton: Which was pretty…
- 45:37W- which I remember, I remember investigating that live with you,
- 45:40and it was like, "Oh, it's actually a little more than we thought it was."
- 45:44Adam: Yeah, yeah.
- 45:44I, I would've guessed it was like 10 or 15%, right?
- 45:47Yeah.
- 45:47But yeah, so 25%, that's a little bit more than it was.
- 45:50Is it a blow?
- 45:51Yes.
- 45:53Is this like, having your star wide receiver get hurt and have legal issues?
- 45:59Is this like having your left tackle, likely suspended for six games
- 46:03throughout the season and- Hmm.
- 46:05- … you know, that sort of thing?
- 46:07No.
- 46:08This is your fullback who…
- 46:10Look, I don't know how much we were gonna run 22 or 21 or how much we still will.
- 46:14Clinton: Right.
- 46:14Adam: but I do feel like there's a universe that Fleury figures it out.
- 46:20And also too, the demand for fullback isn't that- that high out there around
- 46:23the league, so there's gotta be more dudes too, like out there that…
- 46:28Because John does this all the time, like brings in some guy
- 46:31and you're like, "Who and why?"
- 46:33And you're like- Yeah … five weeks in, "I love this dude."
- 46:36You know?
- 46:36Clinton: Well, and on screen here by Charlie the Unicorn, he's saying,
- 46:40you know, "Lampy is underrated."
- 46:42And he says, "Watch him flourish."
- 46:43Like, hey, Charlie, I hope so.
- 46:44Yeah, there it is.
- 46:45Like, I don't know.
- 46:46I mean, look, we just picked him up, and I know he's got lineage
- 46:48to Coach Hammock and all that.
- 46:51He, he looks the part.
- 46:52But really, he l- he's the same exact size as Br- literally almost
- 46:55same exact size as Brady Russell.
- 46:57So again, you're not replacing the body and the ath- athlete that
- 47:00Ouzts was, but may- It's about the
- 47:02Adam: size of the dog, Clinton
- 47:03Clinton: that's exactly right.
- 47:04Because Lamp- Yeah … Lampy is also a fullback by trade.
- 47:07He was not a convert, so maybe he will be very good.
- 47:11We'll see.
- 47:12I just wonder- We talked last time about will this, you know,
- 47:16will there be enough footballs to go around to the pass catchers?
- 47:18Because there are a lot of mouths to feed.
- 47:21I will say this, if there's less Ouzts and you have less, less 21,
- 47:26and just purely less fullback on the field period, well, you know, you're
- 47:31probably in situations where you're, you're throwing the ball a little
- 47:34bit more than you were yesterday.
- 47:36And I'm not sure how that makes you feel, but it could even be, you know,
- 47:41pass- passes to, to running backs too.
- 47:43But it's a little bit l- it's a little bit less of a power team with Ouzts out,
- 47:48and we'll see how it gets replaced.
- 47:50Look, he was out for chunks, he was out for chunks last year, and, you
- 47:55know, late in the season and early this season, and we made, we made our way.
- 47:59But I really liked what he looked like when he came back from injury, and
- 48:02I was, I'm super sad that he won't get a chance to progress in year two.
- 48:06Adam: Well, the real sad part about it is, is that I think for the NFL
- 48:10as a whole, the hardest thing for me to watch as a fan is a guy to have
- 48:15talent to do something, show the talent, and then the body says no.
- 48:20and look man, when you start talking about next and out for
- 48:23the year- Yeah … and this is the second go-round and all that, like, I
- 48:27start thinking about Cam, like- Yeah
- 48:29all of that stuff, right?
- 48:31And it's, it's tough.
- 48:33- Yeah … but we'll see how it goes for Ouzts.
- 48:35Now, you did mention, like, no fullback, less power, right?
- 48:39Clinton: Potentially.
- 48:39Adam: Potentially, right … disagree.
- 48:40Yeah, I, 'cause there's a lot of ways to get to power football.
- 48:43Lot of ways.
- 48:44I mean, you can be, you can have two tight ends out there, you know,
- 48:47run a lot of more duo stuff and get it right down their throat.
- 48:50Like, there's a lot of ways to get after that, and bring guys in
- 48:54insert motion or whatever it is.
- 48:56And you can still create a lot of that without a fullback.
- 49:00And look, with Sean McVay inventing 13 personnel last year- … we can always
- 49:04put three tight ends out there too.
- 49:05So that's-
- 49:06Clinton: I'm not sure.
- 49:06I'm not sure we're allowed to.
- 49:07I thought that was only for McVay because he invented it just last year,
- 49:11'cause he's such- Right … a genius.
- 49:12Yeah.
- 49:13Adam, he's such a genius- Mm-hmm … that in the NFC Championship game, at the end
- 49:17of the third quarter it was 31-27 Seattle.
- 49:20Yeah.
- 49:20And do you know what the score was at the end of the fourth quarter, Adam?
- 49:23Adam: not that, i- 'cause that was a big old L.
- 49:27Clinton: Right.
- 49:27It w- well, it was 31-27 Seattle at the end of the third quarter.
- 49:30Yeah.
- 49:30End of the fourth quarter it was 31-27 Seattle.
- 49:34They scored z- Yeah … believe it or not, the Rams, who already won
- 49:36the Super Bowl this year, they scored zero points in the entire fourth
- 49:40quarter last year- Yeah, that's right
- 49:42with the, with the genius, the genius and the MVP, and they mustered zero
- 49:47points in an entire quarter of football.
- 49:49But that's- Mm-hmm … probably, probably not important
- 49:51going into the year where we- Hey,
- 49:53Adam: but his call sheet knows who's boss, because he screamed at that so close.
- 49:57He was, yeah.
- 49:57I mean, it had to make it be itself.
- 49:58Clinton: Yeah, he definitely screamed at it the way that-
- 50:00Yeah … Macdonald screamed at Hall at the beginning of this episode.
- 50:03Adam, I think we did a great job here.
- 50:05And if I were to say to you the MOB is good-
- 50:09Adam: All the time, brother
- 50:10Clinton: All the time.
- 50:10The MOB is good.
- 50:12And I think with that-
- 50:13Adam: There's only one thing left to say
- 50:14Clinton: Go Hawks.
- 50:15Adam: Go Hawks.
