- 0:11Speaker 1: What's good people, sit boy and I see come into
- 0:14Speaker 1: you live and direct. I got my main man on
- 0:17Speaker 1: the ones and twos, the Human Sports Almanac, the one
- 0:21Speaker 1: and only Jason baum Baum.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Was good man, what's good with you?
- 0:29Speaker 3: Yeah? What up? Goody? I know this may shock you.
- 0:31Speaker 3: I did go to another sporting event this weekend. We
- 0:33Speaker 3: made the day trip up to Seattle to go watch
- 0:36Speaker 3: the Giants play the Mariners on Saturday, and just like
- 0:39Speaker 3: a lot of times this season, it did not go
- 0:42Speaker 3: well with the Giants. Yeah.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Man, uh dude. This is the first the Mets coming
- 0:50Speaker 1: here this year, and it was early in the season,
- 0:51Speaker 1: typically earlier than it typically is. It was the first
- 0:54Speaker 1: time I didn't make it, and it was just a
- 0:56Speaker 1: combination of a bunch of different things going on where
- 0:58Speaker 1: it really just wasn'tistically possible for me. I know, you're
- 1:02Speaker 1: a guy who goes and sees every sporting event, but
- 1:04Speaker 1: definitely travels to see you know, your teams from the
- 1:06Speaker 1: Bay and we that's one thing that we can bond
- 1:09Speaker 1: on this year is our mutual misery when it comes
- 1:12Speaker 1: to our baseball teams. You know, one team that in
- 1:16Speaker 1: some ways fathered another team and they as a as
- 1:22Speaker 1: a whole generational family and another generation are just looking
- 1:26Speaker 1: horrible right now. And it's it's been a tough, tough
- 1:29Speaker 1: season for the both of us. For the the guys
- 1:32Speaker 1: who like the baseball teams that were orange.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Yeah, it is. It has been rough pit misery, dilly dilly,
- 1:38Speaker 3: so to speak. It's been a fantasy only type season
- 1:41Speaker 3: really for me at this point. Are they're so bad?
- 1:47Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah, I'm sure this is not your first time
- 1:49Speaker 1: in that stadium in Seattle. How is that one compared
- 1:52Speaker 1: to all the others you've been to?
- 1:53Speaker 3: Oh, it's the top five ballpark for me, for sure.
- 1:56Speaker 3: It is a santastic stadium. It is just on a
- 2:01Speaker 3: night like we had Saturday, where it's just perfectly sunny
- 2:04Speaker 3: and you know, not a cloud in the sky and
- 2:06Speaker 3: in the seventies, you can just see so far out
- 2:08Speaker 3: in the city of Seattle in either direction really too,
- 2:11Speaker 3: which is really sick. They have a retractable roof, but
- 2:14Speaker 3: they still don't close the panels, so you have this
- 2:17Speaker 3: little bit of outdoor miss. No matter what. Uh, the
- 2:20Speaker 3: energy in the stadium is good. You know, it's a
- 2:23Speaker 3: tough place to hit, but you know, the sights and
- 2:26Speaker 3: sounds and energy are all just fantastic.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Yeah, have you ever seen a drop off like this?
- 2:31Speaker 3: Guy Raley Luke Raley? Yeah, oh cal Rally you mean yeah,
- 2:37Speaker 3: big numper. You know, I'm trying to think of one.
- 2:39Speaker 3: I cannot.
- 2:40Speaker 1: I'm sorry, man, I don't give a fuck. What's your
- 2:42Speaker 1: nickname is? I'm not calling you.
- 2:44Speaker 3: That, that's what they call I'm trying to think because
- 2:48Speaker 3: they also have Luke Raley on their team too.
- 2:49Speaker 1: So that's why you know at the catcher the guy.
- 2:53Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly, I haven't seen one like this, to be honest,
- 2:56Speaker 3: other than you know, Fernando Tatis Junior's early season drop off.
- 3:00Speaker 3: He's kind of finally woking up, but he was to
- 3:02Speaker 3: begin the season, he.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Was offul Yeah, you're just you're especially sensitive to that
- 3:07Speaker 1: because he's been on your Dynasty team for me.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Yeah exactly. Yeah. Actually, you know another one who's actually
- 3:12Speaker 3: had a very interesting drop off this year is Flag Junior.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Word after he just got paid too, yeah after.
- 3:18Speaker 3: But I'm kind of wondering is it the WBC that
- 3:22Speaker 3: kind of messed him up? Because a lot of guys
- 3:25Speaker 3: who were coming out of WBC really haven't had their
- 3:28Speaker 3: normal seasons.
- 3:30Speaker 1: There's something too that we definitely talked about it. Well,
- 3:35Speaker 1: I know that so though he played the WBC and
- 3:37Speaker 1: he's still having a really good year. Uh. But also,
- 3:40Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, there's there's something to that. Listen, if
- 3:42Speaker 1: I'm like, if my guy is, you know, really inclined
- 3:50Speaker 1: to go, you can't obviously you can't get in their way,
- 3:53Speaker 1: but if I could influence it in some way as
- 3:56Speaker 1: an organization, like Nolan McLain, young guy went pitched, got
- 4:03Speaker 1: some experience in some high leverage situations. Cool, But like
- 4:07Speaker 1: in a few years when it's time again, I'm gonna
- 4:09Speaker 1: be like, nah, man, I need you in camp. I
- 4:11Speaker 1: need you, you know, doing the normal thing that you
- 4:14Speaker 1: are doing to ramp up and get ready for this season.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Especially when you look at him. He's a guy who
- 4:19Speaker 1: started up the season not meeting the lofty expectations that
- 4:22Speaker 1: people expected. But now he's kind of starting to get
- 4:25Speaker 1: into a groove, has put you know, three really good
- 4:28Speaker 1: starts together back to back to back, and it's really
- 4:31Speaker 1: one of the few things to be optimistic about with
- 4:33Speaker 1: this Mets team right now. You know, it's a very
- 4:36Speaker 1: good question about that. And yet Flat is yeah another guy.
- 4:39Speaker 1: I mean, we're talking about what those two were top
- 4:42Speaker 1: three in al MVP last year, if not top four
- 4:44Speaker 1: to five, so not more than five. And you know,
- 4:48Speaker 1: those guys both obviously haven't having a very very tough
- 4:51Speaker 1: time so far this year.
- 4:52Speaker 3: Yeah, I was gonna say Rolly finished second of Judge obviously,
- 4:55Speaker 3: even though I probably hit sixty two bombs. But this
- 4:59Speaker 3: year doesn't even look like he's going to hit twenty,
- 5:01Speaker 3: which is crazy to think about in terms of the
- 5:03Speaker 3: WBC itself. And I think this is good and I'm
- 5:06Speaker 3: hoping this is a new precedent with Major League Baseball
- 5:09Speaker 3: players going to the Olympics, most likely in a couple
- 5:12Speaker 3: of years that it becomes a mid season tournament and
- 5:14Speaker 3: replaces the All Star Game itself this way, again, I
- 5:17Speaker 3: think players are ramped up. They're more ready to participate
- 5:20Speaker 3: in it instead of having to speed up their training
- 5:22Speaker 3: and you know, basically pitch at high level situations while
- 5:25Speaker 3: being in spring training.
- 5:27Speaker 1: No, yeah, I agree, it's a great idea for sure.
- 5:29Speaker 1: I think the quality of baseball will be better too
- 5:31Speaker 1: if it's in the middle of the season. But yeah,
- 5:35Speaker 1: you know, you just how far how far of a
- 5:39Speaker 1: drive is Seattle from you?
- 5:41Speaker 3: It's only two hours take the train or take drive up,
- 5:44Speaker 3: you know, two hours to the train station. You take
- 5:46Speaker 3: a light rail into Seattle proper. It drops you off
- 5:49Speaker 3: right down the street from the ball park.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Okay, I mean that's you know, that's still that's still
- 5:54Speaker 1: a trip. Did you stay there for the night or
- 5:55Speaker 1: did you come right back afterwards?
- 5:56Speaker 3: I always stay the night, got a got an airport, hotel,
- 6:00Speaker 3: you know, nothing crazy expensive, and just crashed out after that.
- 6:03Speaker 1: So yeah, that's what's up, man, that's what's up. You
- 6:06Speaker 1: continue to amaze me with your commitment to attend a
- 6:10Speaker 1: sporting events live. Someday you got to write a book
- 6:13Speaker 1: someday for seriously, I hope you're taking notes, But yeah, man,
- 6:18Speaker 1: obviously we're send someone of the slow time in sports.
- 6:22Speaker 1: You know, I really do intend at some point to
- 6:24Speaker 1: talk a little bit more about things that are like
- 6:27Speaker 1: going on in the world and like current events, and
- 6:29Speaker 1: I mean I'm everything from things that are somewhat serious
- 6:32Speaker 1: to things that are you know, just fun. To be
- 6:39Speaker 1: honest with you here, recently, the way that I just
- 6:44Speaker 1: I've been feeling and things have been I almost don't
- 6:47Speaker 1: even I've I've taken so much of my like mental
- 6:51Speaker 1: energy and focused it away from just watching things like
- 6:55Speaker 1: the news, and I mean, you know, consuming that in
- 6:59Speaker 1: any time, shape or form, which I do in some
- 7:02Speaker 1: very alternative ways, in a little bit of inn a
- 7:05Speaker 1: legacy way. But recently I've been so turned off from that,
- 7:09Speaker 1: just in the overall climate of it, the just disgust
- 7:15Speaker 1: of it and the grossness of it. And so I've
- 7:18Speaker 1: been like so tuned out that I don't feel educated
- 7:21Speaker 1: enough to speak on anything. And really, honestly, anything I
- 7:24Speaker 1: speak about on this pod, I know, I know a
- 7:29Speaker 1: good amount about a good amount of things, but I'm
- 7:31Speaker 1: not an expert probably in anything, you know. So at
- 7:35Speaker 1: the end of the day, I don't know. We'll get there.
- 7:38Speaker 1: We'll get there at certain points. I just I don't know.
- 7:41Speaker 1: It feels a little gross right now, and I hope,
- 7:43Speaker 1: I don't know if that's gonna change. Probably won't get
- 7:45Speaker 1: any better. But there's some things that like I almost
- 7:48Speaker 1: am too emotional about to sit and really even have
- 7:51Speaker 1: any sort of real discourse, and I guess discourse with
- 7:57Speaker 1: you know, the people that listen to it and have
- 7:59Speaker 1: thinks to come back and comment. You know, there's certain
- 8:02Speaker 1: things that sound so coded and just some of the
- 8:04Speaker 1: stuff we talk about even in the sports world. We'll
- 8:07Speaker 1: talk about that at the very end of the show,
- 8:08Speaker 1: and we talk about, you know, somebody losing their position recently.
- 8:13Speaker 1: But you know, I find that it for me sometimes
- 8:16Speaker 1: it's like I don't even I don't have the energy.
- 8:21Speaker 1: I got too much things going on with me and
- 8:22Speaker 1: my little tribe. And you know, also you know the
- 8:26Speaker 1: people that that I either call family or whole close.
- 8:29Speaker 1: It's like I can only put so much energy into
- 8:32Speaker 1: trying to change anybody else's opinion or even really giving
- 8:35Speaker 1: a fuck about it. But we'll get there. We'll get there.
- 8:40Speaker 1: One thing that has been a delight, not just for
- 8:45Speaker 1: the last six weeks, but just in general here recently
- 8:51Speaker 1: these last couple of weeks, is it's great when your
- 8:55Speaker 1: team wins a championship and then right after that you
- 8:57Speaker 1: have all the stuff that comes after it. Now with
- 9:00Speaker 1: the Knicks, everything is amplified. And that's part of the
- 9:04Speaker 1: greater point here. And what is the question that I
- 9:08Speaker 1: want to ask to the audience. Now? Recently you have
- 9:16Speaker 1: Fanatics Fest, then you have you know, some wrestling events
- 9:21Speaker 1: different gallas and award shows and interviews coming out with
- 9:27Speaker 1: you know, really huge you know people in podcast space,
- 9:32Speaker 1: and the exposure and the overall celebration of the NBA
- 9:39Speaker 1: champion New York Knicks has been one that makes me
- 9:44Speaker 1: want to ask a question, is this the most celebrated
- 9:50Speaker 1: and beloved champion of all time? Now? Before you know,
- 10:00Speaker 1: you see what you see what had I'm wearing, You
- 10:02Speaker 1: see what colors the logo is. That's if you're new
- 10:05Speaker 1: to the show. If you're not new to the show,
- 10:07Speaker 1: you already know what time it is. It's Nixon five.
- 10:10Speaker 1: You know my entire life. And so I look at
- 10:16Speaker 1: things like every champion doesn't go and is immediately on
- 10:21Speaker 1: the Today's Show and all the late night shows and
- 10:23Speaker 1: everything right afterwards. Now, obviously a huge part of that
- 10:27Speaker 1: is the fact that they're in New York. That they
- 10:34Speaker 1: have by okay, when I say that, I'm sorry that
- 10:37Speaker 1: all the studios, all the TV shows, all those things,
- 10:40Speaker 1: most of a lot of them are shot in New York.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Or the award shows they happen in New York. Every
- 10:47Speaker 1: single one of those morning shows New York. So clearly
- 10:52Speaker 1: there's that connection there. I don't remember Oklahoma City doing
- 10:57Speaker 1: the tour and being on every show. Sure there were
- 10:59Speaker 1: all some stuff but they it wasn't the same, okay,
- 11:04Speaker 1: and you definitely didn't have the equivalent of their Landry
- 11:07Speaker 1: Shammitt doing like major podcasts.
- 11:10Speaker 3: I gotta pop that to hear about Oklahoma City really quick.
- 11:12Speaker 3: Those dudes, I think kind of killed themselves media darling
- 11:16Speaker 3: wives when they couldn't even celebrate the title, right, You've
- 11:21Speaker 3: always got in the locker room after the after they
- 11:25Speaker 3: had won Game seven, and it was quite honestly the lamest,
- 11:29Speaker 3: most subdued championship celebration I've ever seen. Like those guys
- 11:33Speaker 3: that barely even knew how to open a bottle of champagne.
- 11:37Speaker 1: You know, I don't uh, you know, I only kind
- 11:41Speaker 1: of remember what you're talking about right now if you can,
- 11:45Speaker 1: uh final link and uh and text it to me
- 11:48Speaker 1: and I'll and I'll pull it up so I can
- 11:49Speaker 1: look at it if you can. But not a big deal.
- 11:51Speaker 1: But anyway, man, it's you know, listen, those guys to me,
- 11:54Speaker 1: obviously they they by nature well you know what I
- 12:00Speaker 1: was about to say, they seem a little dry.
- 12:01Speaker 2: But then after the.
- 12:03Speaker 1: Games where they're all there and Shae is talking shit
- 12:05Speaker 1: and whatnot, and obviously you know, Shae fancies himself some
- 12:10Speaker 1: sort of high fashion model. So he's always wearing shit.
- 12:12Speaker 1: So now I'm not gonna call him dry. Not gonna
- 12:14Speaker 1: call him dry. But the thing that's different about the
- 12:17Speaker 1: Knicks is you have first and foremost, it's the New
- 12:21Speaker 1: York part and the Knicks. I owe my dad an apology.
- 12:23Speaker 1: He always talked about this. I said, it's not as
- 12:25Speaker 1: big as it used to be because nowadays, you know,
- 12:28Speaker 1: the game is so global, everything is as you at
- 12:31Speaker 1: your fingertips, you can become a huge star somewhere else.
- 12:34Speaker 1: You know, Durant became a huge star, Okay, So you
- 12:36Speaker 1: would always be my refrain to him, and he'd be like,
- 12:38Speaker 1: I know, Nick, but it's different. And if you ever
- 12:40Speaker 1: come here, and if you ever win, it's gonna be
- 12:42Speaker 1: on a totally different level than anything. Dad. I apologize.
- 12:46Speaker 1: You were one hundred percent correct, big guy, because this
- 12:49Speaker 1: is something like we've never seen before as far as
- 12:54Speaker 1: the just outpouring of love that we've seen for this team.
- 12:58Speaker 1: I try to think of other teams that are very
- 13:01Speaker 1: and you definitely have some teams, whether it be the Patriots,
- 13:05Speaker 1: the Warriors, but those teams they love you on the
- 13:09Speaker 1: a set and once you continue to dominate for a while,
- 13:11Speaker 1: then you get your shriff haters. I don't feel like
- 13:13Speaker 1: the Knicks have gotten that yet. And they're like, first
- 13:16Speaker 1: time champions in fifty three years, and it's such a
- 13:18Speaker 1: big deal to so many people. But I think just
- 13:23Speaker 1: the random person who's a fan, a basketball fan, a
- 13:29Speaker 1: sports fan, not necessarily a Knicks fan, but doesn't have
- 13:32Speaker 1: any reason to hate the Knicks. They're They're not a
- 13:35Speaker 1: seventy six percent or some shit. They don't have a
- 13:37Speaker 1: reason to hate the Knicks, but they kind of like
- 13:42Speaker 1: the fact that, like, yo, man, they finally did it.
- 13:44Speaker 1: They finally did it, and that's good for them. And
- 13:46Speaker 1: they did it with a team that plays ethical hoops.
- 13:49Speaker 1: They did it as a team that was the underdog.
- 13:53Speaker 1: We all know that everybody loves the underdog story. And
- 13:58Speaker 1: they did it in with a guy who is a
- 14:04Speaker 1: normal guy. Wemby's not a normal person. He's an abnormal person.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Jaylen Brunson is a normal guy. If you saw him
- 14:13Speaker 1: walking around the grocery store, you wouldn't you know, you
- 14:16Speaker 1: wouldn't be you wouldn't be shocked like you would be
- 14:20Speaker 1: if you saw Wemby. And so you have the combination
- 14:26Speaker 1: of the personality of the team, the history of the win.
- 14:30Speaker 1: You have the main characters of the team, Cat, very emotional,
- 14:36Speaker 1: very emotive guy that you know it's easy to you know,
- 14:39Speaker 1: get behind him, and it's you know, it's Cats, the
- 14:43Speaker 1: opposite of a Kawhi. You never know exactly how Kawhi
- 14:47Speaker 1: is feeling on the court. You always know exactly how
- 14:49Speaker 1: Cat is feeling on the court for God Infrabad. But
- 14:55Speaker 1: the Knicks have this team with this personality. Everybody is
- 14:59Speaker 1: now getting to see that, you know, the whole dynamic
- 15:02Speaker 1: between Jaylen Brunton and Josh Hart. They're getting to see
- 15:05Speaker 1: the quirkiness of Ogn and Obi. They're getting to see
- 15:13Speaker 1: the outpouring of emotion by Karl Anthony Towns and all
- 15:20Speaker 1: the different little dynamics that the team has amongst themselves.
- 15:26Speaker 1: We've all seen it as Knicks fans. We know, you know,
- 15:29Speaker 1: Og grabbing the mic away from Alan Hahn, and you know,
- 15:33Speaker 1: we know who these guys are. But now the whole
- 15:35Speaker 1: nation is getting to see it, and they're getting to
- 15:37Speaker 1: see a whole team. It's not just about JB. It's
- 15:40Speaker 1: not just about even JB and Gat. Everybody is getting
- 15:43Speaker 1: their time to shine When Bridges goes up to at
- 15:47Speaker 1: fanatics Fest, the entire crowd is chanting, fuck them picks.
- 15:54Speaker 1: His teammates are clowning him about who's the one that's
- 15:57Speaker 1: having the most fun here, and they say it's got
- 15:59Speaker 1: to be Bridges because at IG Live, this is a family,
- 16:03Speaker 1: this is a team, and I think that everybody can
- 16:06Speaker 1: get behind that. The other reason, and the last and
- 16:11Speaker 1: the most important my to me, the real reason why
- 16:16Speaker 1: the New York Knicks are getting so much love in
- 16:19Speaker 1: the entire sports world for this championship is because of us.
- 16:29Speaker 1: It's the fans, Bam. You've said to me for years,
- 16:34Speaker 1: best fans in sports. With a team that had that
- 16:40Speaker 1: level of ineptitude for that long and to still have
- 16:45Speaker 1: such a rabid fan base, it speaks for itself.
- 16:50Speaker 3: It is, you know, as they got to live it,
- 16:52Speaker 3: you know with you, you know over the years that
- 16:55Speaker 3: we spent together, you know, sitting at the same city,
- 16:57Speaker 3: at the same desk daily. And then you know the
- 17:00Speaker 3: one time I took you and the big guy to
- 17:01Speaker 3: the Sun's game and you guys, it was it was
- 17:05Speaker 3: a Sun's next game in December when you guys weren't
- 17:07Speaker 3: very good, but it felt like Game six of the
- 17:10Speaker 3: Eastern Conference semi fives to you guys, that was that
- 17:13Speaker 3: big of a deal. And then I think it got
- 17:15Speaker 3: a little further amplified in twenty twenty one when the
- 17:18Speaker 3: world really got to start seeing it with those sidetonk
- 17:21Speaker 3: videos that that Game one or that opening night double
- 17:25Speaker 3: overtime throw over Boston. I think we really got the
- 17:27Speaker 3: rest of the world got to really see how insanely
- 17:30Speaker 3: passionate Nicks fans really are and really started to understand
- 17:34Speaker 3: it and really understood what a big deal would be
- 17:37Speaker 3: if that was just game one. What would happened if
- 17:39Speaker 3: they went through eighty two games, made to the playoffs
- 17:42Speaker 3: and then won sixteen more for April on, what would happen?
- 17:46Speaker 3: And how sick it was. I mean, I remember when
- 17:48Speaker 3: you guys made the playoffs that season and just thinking
- 17:51Speaker 3: the night you guys clinchedes, like how much that would
- 17:53Speaker 3: have that meant to you? And I think I've been
- 17:54Speaker 3: on you like twenty bucks or something, so you get
- 17:56Speaker 3: some champagne and self a great but you were on
- 18:00Speaker 3: mind when you guys made that made that postseason.
- 18:06Speaker 1: You know it's funny. I just h put up a picture,
- 18:09Speaker 1: Shut up my guy jersey Jersey Short Knicks fan on X.
- 18:14Speaker 1: I actually just sent him a picture because he was
- 18:17Speaker 1: talking about Derreck Rose during that run and how good
- 18:21Speaker 1: he was. He's best player on the team in that
- 18:22Speaker 1: first that first series that we ended up losing to Atlanta.
- 18:26Speaker 1: That uh, you know, Trey Young still hangs his hat
- 18:29Speaker 1: on because he's got nothing else to be proud of.
- 18:32Speaker 1: And we you know, we we were on the way. Yeah,
- 18:39Speaker 1: there was the you know, we believe. That was our
- 18:42Speaker 1: we believe team, you know, And I had to have
- 18:46Speaker 1: the shirt, I said, my man, we put up a
- 18:48Speaker 1: posts about it, and I sent the picture of me
- 18:50Speaker 1: wearing the shirt because I have the shirt from that
- 18:52Speaker 1: playoff run. You know, I bought that shirt at the
- 18:54Speaker 1: beginning of the playff run because we lost in the
- 18:55Speaker 1: first round. You know, you don't buy the first round
- 18:57Speaker 1: ship when you lose in the first round. So I
- 18:59Speaker 1: bought that shit early. By the time I got to delivered,
- 19:01Speaker 1: I was like, eh, okay, yeah, man, I It's it's
- 19:07Speaker 1: one of those things, Doug where you know, at the
- 19:11Speaker 1: end of the day, it's something that we're so rabbid
- 19:17Speaker 1: about and it means so much to us, and I
- 19:20Speaker 1: like every Nick Finn at many times wondered is this
- 19:23Speaker 1: just never gonna happen. I need this to happen, and
- 19:25Speaker 1: I need to happen while while my pops is still here,
- 19:31Speaker 1: and he's you know, he's very good, healthy, he's in
- 19:33Speaker 1: his sixties, he's got a long time to go. But
- 19:36Speaker 1: you know, I'm already thinking about is this canna go
- 19:37Speaker 1: another twenty thirty years? And so the fans, we are
- 19:43Speaker 1: so invested. It meant so much to us, and it
- 19:45Speaker 1: was just, you know, until if my wife took a video.
- 19:49Speaker 2: Of me, my dad and my son.
- 19:53Speaker 1: And us as the buzzer went off, and if you watch,
- 19:56Speaker 1: we're still like when Oji's taking the shot to take
- 19:59Speaker 1: the free throw going up for we're still like sitting
- 20:02Speaker 1: down watching intently.
- 20:04Speaker 2: My Dad's like, you know, to do.
- 20:06Speaker 1: This, do that, foul him whatever, blah blah blah, and
- 20:08Speaker 1: we're just it's like I have to let it, like okay,
- 20:12Speaker 1: it really went to zero. And it took a beat
- 20:14Speaker 1: for it to be like yo, shit, man, this shit
- 20:17Speaker 1: really just happened.
- 20:18Speaker 2: And the New York fan.
- 20:24Speaker 1: I've had conversations with people like this on X especially
- 20:27Speaker 1: if you move away from the New York and New Jersey.
- 20:31Speaker 1: I got so many texts and so many people reaching
- 20:34Speaker 1: out and dms about the Knicks during this playoff run
- 20:39Speaker 1: and congratulations when we finally won it. People I hadn't
- 20:42Speaker 1: spoken to in twenty years, but they just remember that
- 20:47Speaker 1: about me. And that's the thing. There's so many people
- 20:53Speaker 1: who know a Nick fan like that. When I'm walking
- 20:56Speaker 1: around in the streets in Arizona and I'm I've worn
- 21:02Speaker 1: Nick gear every single day.
- 21:06Speaker 2: Since probably.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Somewhere in the Eastern Conference finals, and it's at least
- 21:14Speaker 1: a hat at the at the very least.
- 21:16Speaker 2: But it's it's a it's a jersey, it's a.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Hat, it's custom shoes that are next team, it's something.
- 21:23Speaker 2: Except for work clothes. That's the only time I haven't.
- 21:25Speaker 1: But still I've even been wearing like an orange and
- 21:28Speaker 1: blue pocket square a lot. But the people that see me,
- 21:34Speaker 1: like the guy who walked past me a couple of
- 21:36Speaker 1: days ago and said, go New York, Go, New York go,
- 21:39Speaker 1: not even a Nick fan. He's just like, Ah, this guy,
- 21:43Speaker 1: he's he's he's loving life right now. Again. When the
- 21:47Speaker 1: when the thunder win, nobody's like, wow, man, we're really
- 21:51Speaker 1: happy for those guys. And okay, see you appreciate it
- 21:54Speaker 1: as a basketball fan. You may even like the team,
- 21:56Speaker 1: you're not happy for their fan base, like people are
- 21:59Speaker 1: happy for the Knicks fan base because everybody knows a
- 22:02Speaker 1: Knick fan who has suffered for all these years and
- 22:05Speaker 1: still figures out a way to not just love and
- 22:09Speaker 1: represent but be optimistic somehow about his team and it's
- 22:14Speaker 1: finally all paid off. I don't know, man, I seriously,
- 22:18Speaker 1: bom am I Obviously. The thing is is that I
- 22:21Speaker 1: know that I'm coming from a very biased point of view,
- 22:23Speaker 1: but this is not even something that like I really
- 22:25Speaker 1: like want as like a notch or something that we've done.
- 22:27Speaker 2: But I kind of feel like, and I'm.
- 22:29Speaker 1: Gonna go grab my charger because my my my computer's
- 22:31Speaker 1: not plugged in. I got like an idiot, but I
- 22:33Speaker 1: want to you you tell me, like, have you do
- 22:35Speaker 1: you feel like this is a you know, a championship
- 22:40Speaker 1: that seems like it's being celebrated more than many most
- 22:43Speaker 1: championships are.
- 22:44Speaker 3: I do, actually, And you know when you started mentioning this,
- 22:47Speaker 3: I started racking my brain, especially around the last like
- 22:50Speaker 3: few champions I you know, in my own bias went
- 22:53Speaker 3: back to the first Warriors title, and it was celebrated,
- 22:56Speaker 3: but not like this. The other one, at least in
- 22:59Speaker 3: my life, that I could think about, that was even
- 23:01Speaker 3: kind of close to this level was the ninety nine
- 23:04Speaker 3: to two thousand Lakers, which was shocking Kobe's first together.
- 23:07Speaker 3: I remember how bad everyone wanted them to win that,
- 23:12Speaker 3: and then I think everybody was really really I remember
- 23:15Speaker 3: they were playing the Blazers game seven of the conference finals.
- 23:17Speaker 3: They were down a number of points, I think it
- 23:20Speaker 3: was it was down double figures, you know, late into
- 23:24Speaker 3: the fourth quarter, and the Lakers just all of a
- 23:25Speaker 3: sudden staged that massive comeback, and it really got punctuated
- 23:29Speaker 3: with that Kobe to like Kobe to shack Alu with
- 23:33Speaker 3: about a minute left in that game, and right then
- 23:35Speaker 3: and there you felt the Lakers were not only obviously
- 23:37Speaker 3: gonna win that game and get to the finals, but
- 23:39Speaker 3: they were going to roll. I think it was Philly
- 23:42Speaker 3: they played in that that title in that final series,
- 23:46Speaker 3: and you know, Iverson obviously had the big shot in
- 23:49Speaker 3: Game one, the ty Lou stepover, but then the Lakers
- 23:51Speaker 3: cruised after that, and people wanted them to win, it
- 23:56Speaker 3: felt like, but it still didn't feel as celebrated as
- 23:59Speaker 3: the Snakes title, So it was just a little different.
- 24:02Speaker 3: You obviously have the star power of Kobe and Shaq
- 24:05Speaker 3: back then you had Steph getting his first in fifteen.
- 24:08Speaker 3: But I feel like everybody could get behind this Nicks team,
- 24:12Speaker 3: not only you know, because of who Jalen Brunson is,
- 24:16Speaker 3: and you know, the team itself and the culture that
- 24:19Speaker 3: they've built, you know, him having his college teammates with him.
- 24:23Speaker 3: I mean, how many people in life say they get
- 24:25Speaker 3: to do that. Not many. The only other team I
- 24:29Speaker 3: can really think of it in sports who have been
- 24:31Speaker 3: able to do that is that last Eagles Super Bowl
- 24:33Speaker 3: title team because you look at the guys on that defense,
- 24:35Speaker 3: it's like all of Georgia guys who won the Natty
- 24:37Speaker 3: together a couple of years prior. But it's a lot
- 24:40Speaker 3: different in basketball when you have fifty three players versus fourteen.
- 24:44Speaker 1: So yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean, you know, and it's
- 24:47Speaker 1: sixty percent of your starting lineup. That's crazy. And I
- 24:51Speaker 1: think that, yeah, everything you said is right on. You know,
- 24:56Speaker 1: it's just been It's been such a great ride, and
- 24:59Speaker 1: I definitely didn't expect for it to still bring me
- 25:03Speaker 1: as much joy on a daily basis and like continue
- 25:06Speaker 1: to like find new ways to bring me joy as
- 25:08Speaker 1: it continued as as it has as it has continued
- 25:12Speaker 1: to do. And it's been awesome, man, it's been great.
- 25:15Speaker 3: You know.
- 25:15Speaker 1: Now you've got people like Anthony Edwards talking about whether
- 25:17Speaker 1: or not Jalen Brunson is the face of the league.
- 25:20Speaker 3: Uh.
- 25:20Speaker 1: You know, he's saying that he thinks he's a more
- 25:22Speaker 1: suitable candidate for facing the league than Anthony Edwards is.
- 25:26Speaker 1: I don't even think that's debatable, Listen. I like it.
- 25:30Speaker 1: I like his game. Some of the stuff about him
- 25:34Speaker 1: around his personal life. It's not the best, man, it's
- 25:37Speaker 1: not the best. It's not a it's not a it's
- 25:42Speaker 1: not commendable. It's not how I would teach a young
- 25:44Speaker 1: man to conduct himself. And as he said, he hasn't
- 25:52Speaker 1: won a championship, he doesn't want anything. I mean, Jason
- 25:54Speaker 1: Jalen Brunson, he you know, he's he's Christian Layner. If
- 26:01Speaker 1: Chritian Latner ended up being like a great pro to
- 26:04Speaker 1: have such a decorated college and high school career and
- 26:10Speaker 1: then come into the NBA and be this underdog story
- 26:14Speaker 1: that people continue to doubt get handed the keys to
- 26:18Speaker 1: the most marquee franchise in the entire NBA. I think
- 26:23Speaker 1: that's a conversation that can be had too. Obviously people
- 26:26Speaker 1: are going to say the Lakers and the Celtics. I
- 26:28Speaker 1: think we just showed something different, man. And I think
- 26:31Speaker 1: if this Knicks team we're able to get another championship
- 26:34Speaker 1: here or there in the next couple of years and
- 26:37Speaker 1: really be able to be looked at as like a dynasty.
- 26:39Speaker 2: I think, now you really.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Next time these you know, evaluations come out, and next
- 26:46Speaker 1: time we talk about most valuable. It's obviously with Madison
- 26:49Speaker 1: Square Garden that's an added value. But yo, man, this
- 26:54Speaker 1: is different, man. This is different. The Knicks winning this
- 26:58Speaker 1: championship is different. When Boston won the championship a few
- 27:01Speaker 1: years ago, it was cool. People were like, you know,
- 27:04Speaker 1: I heard people being like, you know, one of the
- 27:05Speaker 1: marquee franchises won again. This is good talking about the
- 27:08Speaker 1: total number and it's only number three for the next
- 27:10Speaker 1: I get it. But all of that talk that we've
- 27:13Speaker 1: ever heard about how oh the Knicks get covered differently.
- 27:16Speaker 1: Their Dicks have more fans than anybody else that you know,
- 27:20Speaker 1: if you win in New York, it's different than winning
- 27:22Speaker 1: anywhere else. It's all true, it's proven. It's being proven
- 27:29Speaker 1: right in front of our faces right now. And as
- 27:35Speaker 1: far as facing the league, I can't see a better
- 27:39Speaker 1: due to his size, due to his character, due to
- 27:42Speaker 1: the way that he plays, due to his skill set.
- 27:46Speaker 1: I can't see a better candidate than Jalen Brunson. But
- 27:50Speaker 1: it seems it seems that people feel one way. But
- 27:54Speaker 1: the people that push narratives feel like they want a
- 27:57Speaker 1: guy who can, you know, run fast and jump high.
- 27:59Speaker 1: And I don't I don't get that. I don't get
- 28:02Speaker 1: I really don't get that at all. What do you
- 28:04Speaker 1: think about that bomb? I mean, the whole face of
- 28:06Speaker 1: the league conversation, what Anne had to say.
- 28:08Speaker 3: I think it's very valid. Obviously right now, you know,
- 28:11Speaker 3: Lebron and step are still kind of holding that mantle.
- 28:14Speaker 3: But the next guy has been up in the air
- 28:17Speaker 3: for a few years. There was definitely there should have
- 28:20Speaker 3: been at least some concern with the leguas who's going
- 28:22Speaker 3: to be the next guy. After twenty four you thought
- 28:24Speaker 3: it was going to be Jason Tatum, and then you
- 28:27Speaker 3: know he has the injury, the Knicks kind of takeover,
- 28:29Speaker 3: and now Brunson has this whull run by the way,
- 28:31Speaker 3: brother is so much faster than people think it actually
- 28:34Speaker 3: kind of it actually kind of annoys me when people
- 28:36Speaker 3: tell me he's slow. He is so deceptively quick.
- 28:39Speaker 1: It's quick, and he's quick. He's not fast, so he's
- 28:41Speaker 1: not he's not beating you on one hundred yard dash,
- 28:43Speaker 1: but he's getting from this little spot to this little
- 28:46Speaker 1: spot quicker than you are. And he's deceptive obviously exactly.
- 28:49Speaker 3: It's incredible. But yeah, Brunson, you know, it is a
- 28:53Speaker 3: valid argument at this point. And the other interesting thing
- 28:56Speaker 3: that kind of doesn't get talked about as well, you know,
- 29:00Speaker 3: within the face of the league is obviously the game
- 29:02Speaker 3: you mentioned earlier, the game going global. The last few
- 29:05Speaker 3: I think we're last, like five or six MVPs now
- 29:07Speaker 3: are all non American guys. So now you have Tatum
- 29:11Speaker 3: and Brunton, who are American guys who could really take
- 29:15Speaker 3: over the face of the league to carry that mantle
- 29:17Speaker 3: here in the States, and right now, it's hard to
- 29:21Speaker 3: argue with what runts. Tatum came into the league as
- 29:23Speaker 3: a third overall pick, and everybody knew how prodigitus VI
- 29:27Speaker 3: talent he was not. Everybody knew that and understood that
- 29:30Speaker 3: about how good and how much of a winner fronts
- 29:32Speaker 3: it was. So to see him kind of do it
- 29:35Speaker 3: makes him do it in the way he's done the
- 29:37Speaker 3: character and also doing it in New York, where obviously
- 29:40Speaker 3: the pressure is immense. There's a lot of validity for
- 29:44Speaker 3: him to be the next face of the league after
- 29:46Speaker 3: you know, Stepan Braun hanging up.
- 29:49Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think that and is in that conversation
- 29:52Speaker 1: as well. I don't know, man, I gotta I got
- 29:58Speaker 1: a weird and his feeling about how things are gonna
- 30:03Speaker 1: go for Boston, and I don't want to have it.
- 30:05Speaker 1: I like Tatum, I like his game, you know, I
- 30:08Speaker 1: don't help the hate the Celtics like I hate some
- 30:11Speaker 1: other teams, like I hate the Miami Eat or even
- 30:14Speaker 1: even Philly. Here recently we've gotten to a level just
- 30:18Speaker 1: specifically because of Joelle and Bitch and the dirty stuff
- 30:21Speaker 1: that he does. But yeah, I just I don't know.
- 30:25Speaker 1: I don't have that hate for them. And I like
- 30:26Speaker 1: Jason Tatum as a player. I've always been a huge
- 30:28Speaker 1: fan of his game. So there's a part of me
- 30:31Speaker 1: that hates feeling this way. But for some reason, I
- 30:34Speaker 1: just I don't know. Man, I don't think it's going
- 30:37Speaker 1: I don't think it's gonna go well for them. I
- 30:38Speaker 1: really don't. I didn't like their offseason obviously, And you
- 30:41Speaker 1: know it's not just the Jaylen Brown. I hope I listen.
- 30:47Speaker 1: I hope they're not asking too much Mitch. I hope
- 30:50Speaker 1: that things, you know, work out for Mitch. For sure,
- 30:52Speaker 1: I really do to a certain extent. But uh, I'm
- 30:56Speaker 1: keeping it real. But uh yeah, man, I'm just we'll see,
- 31:00Speaker 1: we'll see, we'll see. With Boston, there's no reason for
- 31:02Speaker 1: me I'm over here I have. This is based on nothing.
- 31:04Speaker 1: It's just just a feeling. It's just a feeling. And
- 31:06Speaker 1: if I was always, you know, right about all my feelings,
- 31:09Speaker 1: I would, uh my Draft Kings account would be so nice.
- 31:11Speaker 1: I wouldn't be talking to y'all right now. Actually, yes
- 31:13Speaker 1: I would, Yes, I would, I would. But Yo, Man, Brunson,
- 31:18Speaker 1: you know, I don't give a fuck if he's basically
- 31:20Speaker 1: he's the face of the Nicks, he's my captain. Couldn't
- 31:23Speaker 1: be more thankful for all of that. And you're also
- 31:25Speaker 1: seeing like it's like, okay, the wrestling shit, so they
- 31:30Speaker 1: go on, they wrestle. I was huge in.
- 31:32Speaker 2: Wrestling up until around like.
- 31:34Speaker 1: The Rock That was like my last favorite wrestler. That
- 31:37Speaker 1: was about twelve thirteen, and then you know, I got
- 31:39Speaker 1: away from the wrestling. I got friends of mine who
- 31:44Speaker 1: are still into it as grown man. There's plenty of
- 31:46Speaker 1: grown men that still love wrestling. It's not for me,
- 31:49Speaker 1: but uh, you know, I see the clips of Cat
- 31:52Speaker 1: and JB. JB is with Roman reigns and Cat is
- 31:57Speaker 1: with this dude. I think it's Dan Housen or some
- 31:59Speaker 1: shit like that. He I know, he he. He uncursed
- 32:02Speaker 1: the Nicks at one point during the playoffs, which you know,
- 32:06Speaker 1: I know that Brunson and I think a little I
- 32:09Speaker 1: think Cat's similar too, But I know that brunts in
- 32:11Speaker 1: and I think maybe Josh Hart or into wrestling and
- 32:15Speaker 1: you know, fairly heavily, and you know they're out there.
- 32:21Speaker 1: They're part of the plot, you know, Bruntson. I forget
- 32:26Speaker 1: exactly what he did. You know, cats choke slam, Kats
- 32:29Speaker 1: choke slam was excellent. Two choke slams excellent. And you know,
- 32:33Speaker 1: this is my favorite wrestler, my first favorite wrestler ever, No,
- 32:37Speaker 1: not my first, my second favorite rest My first favorite
- 32:39Speaker 1: wrestler ever was sting when he was in w c W.
- 32:43Speaker 1: I used to watch w c W back then my
- 32:46Speaker 1: grandmother with my grandmother, believe it or not, she's really
- 32:49Speaker 1: into it, you know, I think my I think Grandma
- 32:51Speaker 1: really liked all the all the guys in the tights
- 32:53Speaker 1: with no shirts on it for being there. If we're
- 32:56Speaker 1: being honest out there, you know, sorry Grahamcy, but the
- 33:02Speaker 1: yeah man.
- 33:02Speaker 2: So that was my first favorite.
- 33:04Speaker 1: Was thing like the old Thing where he just like
- 33:05Speaker 1: had half of his face and it was colorful and
- 33:07Speaker 1: he had the blonde here it's not the crows sting.
- 33:09Speaker 1: And then I started getting a w WF. You know.
- 33:12Speaker 1: I liked like a Ultimate Warrior. I had one of
- 33:15Speaker 1: those dolls, the little doll with the arms are like
- 33:17Speaker 1: this and shit. And then I really got into the
- 33:21Speaker 1: undert Undertaker. It was my first like guy back when
- 33:23Speaker 1: he didn't talk, when he didn't speak, when he always
- 33:27Speaker 1: had the eyes rolled up. I do that for my
- 33:30Speaker 1: kid sometimes it freaks him out, and h he's you know,
- 33:34Speaker 1: he's the dead man. Back before they would say he
- 33:38Speaker 1: was from Death Valley. They would say when they would
- 33:40Speaker 1: they would they were you know, everything was unknown. No,
- 33:43Speaker 1: he barely ever spoke I'll ever forget, Like when there
- 33:46Speaker 1: was this whole thing about the UH at this point,
- 33:50Speaker 1: it was, you know, wrestling was very xenophobic back then.
- 33:53Speaker 1: It was the US versus the foreigners, which was you know,
- 33:57Speaker 1: Yoka Soon Uh and the whichever Arabic guy representation they
- 34:05Speaker 1: were running out at the time, and it was just
- 34:07Speaker 1: very xenophobic, you know, back and forth, and it was
- 34:10Speaker 1: USA versus them basically, and Lex Luger was like the
- 34:14Speaker 1: leader of like the USA and my guy. You know,
- 34:18Speaker 1: they were all like asking, you know, the dead man
- 34:20Speaker 1: that nobody knew where he was from, who does he support?
- 34:22Speaker 1: And they brought him out there in the middle of
- 34:23Speaker 1: the ring and you know, had the foreigners versus the USA,
- 34:27Speaker 1: and he's right in the middle and he opens up
- 34:29Speaker 1: his trench coat and it's got the American flag on it,
- 34:32Speaker 1: and he's just like USA and he started hitting the Oh,
- 34:35Speaker 1: come on, man, it's the best. It's the best. The
- 34:36Speaker 1: Understaker famously his two moves he started off it was
- 34:40Speaker 1: just a tombstone, and then after that he added in
- 34:44Speaker 1: the joke slam Caine, his younger brother, when he comes in,
- 34:48Speaker 1: he's a he's a choke slammer. And a and a
- 34:51Speaker 1: tombstoner as well. And you see a lot of guys,
- 34:54Speaker 1: especially when they have like big guys, cross over and
- 34:57Speaker 1: do something in wrestling. It's one of the safest ones
- 35:00Speaker 1: that they can do. And it looks really good when
- 35:02Speaker 1: somebody's big to take them up high like that, and
- 35:04Speaker 1: the person who's getting choked slam they give a jump
- 35:07Speaker 1: for sure. It's like I tell my youngest he's six
- 35:09Speaker 1: years old, she's a little bigger. Now, I'm like, yo,
- 35:10Speaker 1: when I gotta pick you up, I need you to
- 35:11Speaker 1: get me a little jump, you know, make it a
- 35:13Speaker 1: little easy on me. And uh, cat Man, it's very
- 35:21Speaker 1: very solid choke slam. And I've seen some you know,
- 35:23Speaker 1: some wrestling officionado say very good choke slam. First of all,
- 35:26Speaker 1: Cat is obviously huge seven feet tall. Second of all,
- 35:29Speaker 1: Cat's fucking strong as fuck. The the uh the NBA
- 35:35Speaker 1: Championship Trophy, it's thirty It's like they say it's brown
- 35:40Speaker 1: thirty pounds, but it's an oblong thirty pounds. It's not
- 35:42Speaker 1: like a picking up a thirty pound dumbbell or a
- 35:44Speaker 1: kettlebell and he picks it up with ease and just
- 35:46Speaker 1: holds it over his hand with one hand over his
- 35:48Speaker 1: head with one hand like this. So Cat is clearly
- 35:52Speaker 1: a strong, strong dude. Obviously he was way too strong
- 35:56Speaker 1: for Wemby. We saw that over and over again throughout
- 35:58Speaker 1: the series, and you know, he just shows you how
- 36:02Speaker 1: strong he is. So when he and he understands it,
- 36:04Speaker 1: just it was. There were good looking choke slimps. There
- 36:06Speaker 1: were good looking joke slimps from Cat. But yeah, man,
- 36:09Speaker 1: the next you know, even when it comes to that,
- 36:11Speaker 1: the wrestling and everything that they're everywhere. They're everywhere. And
- 36:14Speaker 1: I think Jalen Brunson yesterday finally went on vacation and
- 36:18Speaker 1: he said that he did not leave the city and
- 36:21Speaker 1: didn't go on vacation. Right afterwards, you know, Josh Hart
- 36:23Speaker 1: went over to either Italy or Greece, I believe, and
- 36:27Speaker 1: he missed the SPI's from it. And these guys, they
- 36:33Speaker 1: clearly most of them have stayed around the city. Jordan
- 36:37Speaker 1: Clarkson is in the club getting kicked out with Travis
- 36:41Speaker 1: Scott after some sort of disagreement. Supposedly Jordan Clarkson was
- 36:46Speaker 1: trying to be you know, a peacemaker in the situation,
- 36:49Speaker 1: but Jayleen Brunson said specifically that he stayed because he
- 36:52Speaker 1: wanted to stay close to the city and experience it. God,
- 36:56Speaker 1: this guy is just He's just the fucking best. We
- 36:59Speaker 1: love you, JB. World Cup ended on Sunday, and I
- 37:07Speaker 1: would say very disappointing fashion. You have the final game
- 37:12Speaker 1: in extra time, Spain scores, they win one nil. Argentina
- 37:20Speaker 1: managed just two shots, both of those coming in extra time,
- 37:23Speaker 1: did not manage a shot on goal in normal time.
- 37:32Speaker 1: I mean I changed. I actually was supposed to see
- 37:38Speaker 1: The Odyssey that day, switched out my tickets and switched
- 37:42Speaker 1: them out and couldn't find any Imax showings that had
- 37:50Speaker 1: available tickets. It's crazy how sold out this movie is.
- 37:52Speaker 1: It's got to do fucking massive numbers. And I've heard
- 37:54Speaker 1: good reviews on it too. I saw a one bad review,
- 37:56Speaker 1: but most of them been good, and so I couldn't
- 38:00Speaker 1: even go through the movie because I couldn't find another
- 38:03Speaker 1: time that worked for me and my pops. And I
- 38:06Speaker 1: wish I would just kept my original tickets and went
- 38:08Speaker 1: and saw that shit instead of sitting around and yawning.
- 38:11Speaker 1: Literally there was I dozed off a couple of times.
- 38:15Speaker 1: Wenby was there. He dozed off. He was trying really
- 38:18Speaker 1: hard to move so he could get to get the
- 38:20Speaker 1: son of his eyes. I don't understand what Wenby broke.
- 38:23Speaker 1: Get some fucking shades, dude. You're going to a soccer
- 38:27Speaker 1: match in the middle of the day. You know you're
- 38:30Speaker 1: trying your best to like use the I don't know
- 38:33Speaker 1: what the shade was he was trying to.
- 38:34Speaker 2: It just looked really silly. He seemed underprepared.
- 38:37Speaker 1: He seemed like, you know, he needs to he needs
- 38:40Speaker 1: to continue to work on his preparedness and all and
- 38:43Speaker 1: all elements of life. But uh yo, man, this match
- 38:48Speaker 1: fucking sucked. Dude. It was fucking suck. It just it
- 38:52Speaker 1: was so boring. It was so bad. There was I mean, Spain,
- 38:57Speaker 1: they had their chances. The Argentine goalie, you know, he
- 39:00Speaker 1: played out of his mind. He did a really really
- 39:02Speaker 1: great job of being in the right spot. When the
- 39:05Speaker 1: one that Spain finally did score. It was just like
- 39:07Speaker 1: they just kept coming and coming and coming, and it
- 39:09Speaker 1: would have been bad. If Argentina was able to just
- 39:12Speaker 1: stall that game out and then win in PKS. That
- 39:16Speaker 1: wouldn't have been good for the game, and it wouldn't
- 39:18Speaker 1: have been It wouldn't have been good for anybody involved
- 39:20Speaker 1: other than you know, Argentina and their fans.
- 39:22Speaker 3: I guess yeah, I was gonna say. Spain absolutely dominated
- 39:26Speaker 3: that match. It was it was a border line clinic
- 39:29Speaker 3: and it felt like Argentina was playing for penalty kicks.
- 39:34Speaker 3: Million Martinez, the Argentine goalie, did absolutely stand on his
- 39:37Speaker 3: head in that game. He made some real ten l saves,
- 39:41Speaker 3: especially early to mid second half, to keep that game alive,
- 39:44Speaker 3: because that game could have easily been set it mil.
- 39:49Speaker 1: They kept coming, they kept coming Spain, and you know
- 39:52Speaker 1: what part of it is the brilliance of Spain. You
- 39:57Speaker 1: know we've seen We saw them in back to back
- 39:59Speaker 1: game and the two biggest games of the tournament lock
- 40:03Speaker 1: down Imbape and then MESSI I mean legit, lock these
- 40:09Speaker 1: guys down, when nobody's been able to do that all tournament.
- 40:15Speaker 1: So a lot of that is definitely, you know, just
- 40:19Speaker 1: Spain being dominant and being so dominant that it's somewhat boring.
- 40:22Speaker 1: We see we see that in sports all the time.
- 40:24Speaker 1: Sometimes when a team is that good and they're so
- 40:28Speaker 1: good at like one element of the game, specifically when
- 40:32Speaker 1: it's defense, then they kind of pack it in and
- 40:37Speaker 1: don't have to take big chances and it can make
- 40:40Speaker 1: for a boring sporting event. If it's your team, then
- 40:45Speaker 1: you're like, hey, let's go, let's be dominant and continue
- 40:48Speaker 1: to win. They gave up one goal in the entire
- 40:51Speaker 1: tournament and their goalie barely had to do shit. It
- 40:59Speaker 1: was a uh it was it was, like you said,
- 41:01Speaker 1: a clinic by Spain, but Argentina. They come out with
- 41:06Speaker 1: a lot of people having beef with them, specifically the
- 41:11Speaker 1: fact that they were a little bit dirty, as they
- 41:17Speaker 1: tend to be, you know, the fact that they didn't
- 41:21Speaker 1: open it up and really go for it and tried
- 41:22Speaker 1: to score it and seemed like they were trying to
- 41:25Speaker 1: play for pks. Dude, I saw one. I think it was.
- 41:30Speaker 1: I think it was on Uh. I think it was
- 41:34Speaker 1: on ABC. I think it was I'm sorry, not ABC.
- 41:37Speaker 1: I think it was on Fox, like a couple, like
- 41:39Speaker 1: a little while after the game, not the immediate postgame
- 41:42Speaker 1: show with like Zlatan and all them, but after that
- 41:45Speaker 1: and some guys or maybe it might have been on ESPN.
- 41:47Speaker 1: I don't know, but some guys were talking and they
- 41:49Speaker 1: were like, yo, this was just a horrible display of football.
- 41:56Speaker 1: These guys went out there with with with with just
- 41:59Speaker 1: trying to be thugs and instead of you know, trying
- 42:03Speaker 1: to actually score and win the game, they just tried
- 42:05Speaker 1: to muck it up. They end up gotting a man
- 42:07Speaker 1: down on what was a clear, clear card and then
- 42:12Speaker 1: you know, they just it's just not it's not a
- 42:15Speaker 1: good representation of what the game's supposed to be. It
- 42:19Speaker 1: wasn't It surely wasn't. Man. You know, I don't know
- 42:22Speaker 1: enough about strategy and shit like that in soccer, but
- 42:25Speaker 1: it just wasn't good to watch. Man. Spain's just too good,
- 42:28Speaker 1: like I said, in Bappe and Messe back to back,
- 42:31Speaker 1: both getting uh getting you know, shut down by these guys.
- 42:37Speaker 1: And you know, Spain's got a strong team. They're starting
- 42:45Speaker 1: to eighteen year olds and you know, guys who are
- 42:54Speaker 1: like really playing and contributing. And then obviously, you know,
- 43:01Speaker 1: you have like I even thought, like later on one
- 43:04Speaker 1: of the guys that they that they brought in later on,
- 43:08Speaker 1: who he I'm pretty sure he had the assist on
- 43:10Speaker 1: the actual goal.
- 43:12Speaker 2: It was like, this dude is like not even playing.
- 43:14Speaker 1: They just bring him in at the end just just
- 43:15Speaker 1: just to you know, just pour it on, and it's like, damn,
- 43:18Speaker 1: Like I don't know, man, they just seem like they're
- 43:21Speaker 1: set up to be really really good for a long time.
- 43:26Speaker 1: And you know it's they're they're they're dominating soccer right
- 43:31Speaker 1: now at a level that we rarely see having, you know,
- 43:35Speaker 1: just won the UEFA and then now out here and
- 43:40Speaker 1: winning the World Cup. And like I said, with the
- 43:42Speaker 1: with the overall age, it doesn't look like it's gonna
- 43:46Speaker 1: stop or go anywhere anytime soon.
- 43:49Speaker 3: Yeah, Spain looks very good. The team, I know, we
- 43:51Speaker 3: kind of talked about this and touched on the last show.
- 43:53Speaker 3: The team that they kind of remind me of from
- 43:56Speaker 3: you know, American sports is the Dynasty Spurs. You know,
- 43:59Speaker 3: they're never going to a wow you with electric confidence.
- 44:02Speaker 3: They're never gonna be the sexy team that does all
- 44:05Speaker 3: the fun stuff. They just defend, defend, and they take
- 44:10Speaker 3: their chances. They get their chances and they take advantage
- 44:12Speaker 3: of them. But to be fair, on Sunday, they were
- 44:15Speaker 3: ultra aggressive in that match. They were going for it early.
- 44:20Speaker 3: They were trying to barry Argentina. But Media Maal had
- 44:23Speaker 3: a couple really high level, high quality chances early and
- 44:28Speaker 3: you know that either just missed or Martinez made stays.
- 44:31Speaker 1: On, how is that kid eighteen fucking years old? Jeesus,
- 44:35Speaker 1: I mean the level that he is at that age,
- 44:37Speaker 1: the amount of experience that he has in big time
- 44:39Speaker 1: international play at that age. I mean, obviously he didn't
- 44:43Speaker 1: have the type of scoring tournament or even the signature
- 44:47Speaker 1: game this this World Cup is say, like like an
- 44:50Speaker 1: Ambape did in his first World Cup. But you know,
- 44:54Speaker 1: so many people again there's I consume a lot of
- 44:57Speaker 1: my soccer through highlight reels, and his highlight reels are
- 45:00Speaker 1: fucking insane, insane some of the shit he does just
- 45:03Speaker 1: his wizardry with the ball and you know, his like
- 45:06Speaker 1: fast twitch movement and ability. Yeah, you know, I don't know, Well,
- 45:13Speaker 1: this will be the last time we talked about soccer
- 45:14Speaker 1: for four years probably, but I mean maybe at the Olympics,
- 45:19Speaker 1: depending on how that. I don't fucking know. But yeah,
- 45:21Speaker 1: this is uh I read.
- 45:25Speaker 2: It sucks.
- 45:26Speaker 1: It sucks that the momentum of this tournament and then
- 45:29Speaker 1: the third place game was way more exciting and way
- 45:32Speaker 1: better than the first place game. And it just you know,
- 45:38Speaker 1: you had so many celebrities and athletes and everything in
- 45:42Speaker 1: the house and it was just the fucking dud and
- 45:47Speaker 1: you can have games that are zero zero that are
- 45:49Speaker 1: not done. That happens all the time today, does not
- 45:52Speaker 1: necessarily have to be a thing where everybody is just
- 45:55Speaker 1: you know, has a ton of goals. There's games that
- 45:58Speaker 1: are zero zero that end up one zero, they go
- 46:00Speaker 1: into pks and they're still exciting games. That game was
- 46:04Speaker 1: just not an exciting game, and it was sad also
- 46:05Speaker 1: for Messi to go out like that, and then Argentina
- 46:09Speaker 1: they don't, you know, they don't they don't shake hand.
- 46:12Speaker 1: I'm sorry, no, they didn't take it well. There was
- 46:13Speaker 1: an incident on the field, some sort of you know,
- 46:15Speaker 1: brew haha after the game, and then Argentina didn't talk
- 46:18Speaker 1: to any media afterwards. I think that shit's weak. I
- 46:24Speaker 1: think it's weak. I think that always, man. I think
- 46:27Speaker 1: that when you when you lose in sports, you wrap
- 46:32Speaker 1: up the other team and you go out there and
- 46:36Speaker 1: you speak to the media afterwards. There's guys like I
- 46:40Speaker 1: always respected Melo for the fact that he never ducked
- 46:43Speaker 1: out of the media during the entire stint with the Knicks,
- 46:46Speaker 1: even when you had, you know, the whole Phil Jackson
- 46:51Speaker 1: wasn't there to be accountable, even though he was the
- 46:54Speaker 1: one that was pulling all the strings, but Melo was
- 46:56Speaker 1: always there to stand on his you know, stand there
- 46:58Speaker 1: ten toes down and you know, be accountable. I think
- 47:04Speaker 1: that shows leadership and I think it's something that we
- 47:06Speaker 1: should teach kids. You gotta lose with grace. Man. Shit,
- 47:12Speaker 1: we lost in a little league championship this past year
- 47:15Speaker 1: and I you know, I live and die with this shit.
- 47:20Speaker 1: I'm furious standing there as we're out on the field.
- 47:23Speaker 1: Kids are crying and we got to stand out there
- 47:26Speaker 1: and they talk to both teams, and then we get
- 47:28Speaker 1: our second place you know ring, and then you know,
- 47:30Speaker 1: watch the other team get their first place ring, and
- 47:33Speaker 1: you know, you're out there for fifteen twenty minutes after
- 47:35Speaker 1: the game. It's all the pomp and circumstance, and y'all
- 47:39Speaker 1: just took that l That's part of life, and especially
- 47:44Speaker 1: when you're in a situation when you're a professional and
- 47:48Speaker 1: this has awarded you millions of dollars. Like to me,
- 47:52Speaker 1: if I was if I was head of the NBA,
- 47:55Speaker 1: if you didn't stay for postgame interview, the fine would
- 48:02Speaker 1: be so heavy. Because this is what allows us to
- 48:07Speaker 1: be able to have this business and do what we do.
- 48:10Speaker 1: It's a. It's a contract between us and the fans
- 48:13Speaker 1: and us and the TV networks that we're going to
- 48:15Speaker 1: give them a certain level of access. You don't get
- 48:18Speaker 1: to just be a fucking baby when you lose, shake
- 48:23Speaker 1: the other fucking team's hands. And if you got media
- 48:28Speaker 1: availability postgame ceremonial shit or anything like that, you gotta
- 48:33Speaker 1: do fucking sit there and do it, and then after
- 48:36Speaker 1: that you can be as upset and feel however you want.
- 48:39Speaker 1: I think as a grown person, I think, as a
- 48:41Speaker 1: person with a highly being with a highly paid job,
- 48:47Speaker 1: that that's part of your responsibility.
- 48:49Speaker 2: Suck at the fuck up and.
- 48:50Speaker 1: Do it.
- 48:53Speaker 3: Well good. The NBA does agree with you on that.
- 48:56Speaker 3: They do have a fine for skipping media, but it
- 48:58Speaker 3: is discretionary. Those finds typically usually started at about twenty five
- 49:03Speaker 3: g's if you skip. Wemby got off during the playoffs
- 49:09Speaker 3: this past year, because he's usually available and has made
- 49:12Speaker 3: himself available.
- 49:13Speaker 1: So it seems like, yeah, that's bullshit, see because because
- 49:17Speaker 1: I know, no, fuck the first of all, they caught
- 49:19Speaker 1: a Wemby to just a crazy, crazy level. And here's
- 49:23Speaker 1: another one that I'm finding out that you know they're
- 49:25Speaker 1: coddling him again. Fuck that bullshit. Y know, he should
- 49:28Speaker 1: be fine. I don't care if he usually does it,
- 49:30Speaker 1: it's not a usual thing. He didn't do it today.
- 49:32Speaker 1: This is the fine. And make it more, make it
- 49:35Speaker 1: fucking fifty seventy five make up. I would make it
- 49:37Speaker 1: something where these guys were like, listen, if you want
- 49:40Speaker 1: to give up one hundred g's to go to not
- 49:42Speaker 1: talk to the to the to the to the media.
- 49:46Speaker 1: All right, bet, all right, it's a hunt.
- 49:49Speaker 3: It though, I believe it does escalate with each offense.
- 49:54Speaker 3: But you know, it kind of would be really funny
- 49:56Speaker 3: to hear if we're really talking about this about how
- 49:59Speaker 3: guys spend their money. Oh man, I can't, Oh man,
- 50:01Speaker 3: I have to lose all this money for skipping the media.
- 50:04Speaker 3: You know, going back to our last week's conversation.
- 50:06Speaker 1: Draymond talking about the bread. He's paid over four million
- 50:09Speaker 1: dollars in fines and lost game checks. I've heard Clyde
- 50:14Speaker 1: uh wal Clyde Fraser talk about you know, yeah, he
- 50:18Speaker 1: never got a technical once in his entire career, and
- 50:21Speaker 1: he said the reason he didn't was because he's not
- 50:23Speaker 1: paying the money. He's not giving up that bread now,
- 50:29Speaker 1: you know, obviously, dray Bond's made a ton of money
- 50:32Speaker 1: in his career, but I've also recently heard him talk
- 50:35Speaker 1: something about, you know, with all the money I've played
- 50:38Speaker 1: and fine and stuff like that, Doug, that's on you.
- 50:41Speaker 1: Draymond earned them fines. He's not. I even, you know what,
- 50:45Speaker 1: I look at a guy like Rashid Wallace and even
- 50:49Speaker 1: feel like he's a little bit more misunderstood. And he
- 50:52Speaker 1: was one of the first, you know, after Robin, he
- 50:54Speaker 1: was one of the first that just had the absolute
- 50:57Speaker 1: ire of the referees and was always getting you know, texts,
- 51:00Speaker 1: and some of them he earned some of them just
- 51:03Speaker 1: for like looking at people and shit, And he seems
- 51:08Speaker 1: a little bit misunderstood. I don't feel that way about Draymond.
- 51:10Speaker 1: Raymond's well understood.
- 51:13Speaker 3: Yo.
- 51:13Speaker 1: Did Draymond said something this past week?
- 51:15Speaker 2: I forgot.
- 51:16Speaker 1: I didn't. I didn't throw it in the notes, so
- 51:18Speaker 1: I didn't think about it when it happened.
- 51:19Speaker 2: Did what did? Can you?
- 51:21Speaker 1: Did Terreymond say some dumb shit this past week? I
- 51:23Speaker 1: don't know. It doesn't seem like a Weeko's buy where
- 51:25Speaker 1: he doesn't.
- 51:25Speaker 3: It depends on what you're asking. You're talking about him
- 51:28Speaker 3: trying to bring in Lebron or you're talking about him
- 51:30Speaker 3: spent managing his money. So there was something about there
- 51:33Speaker 3: was something about finances. There was stuff on his show
- 51:35Speaker 3: about Lebron as well and making decisions. After Rashid Wallace
- 51:40Speaker 3: her met though, I'm pretty sure he was the pioneer
- 51:43Speaker 3: of the tech suspension. Was he probably racked up No, Rodman, No,
- 51:50Speaker 3: I don't think it was Robin. I think it was
- 51:51Speaker 3: Rashid Wallace who racked up so many teas. The leaguees
- 51:55Speaker 3: just finally as like, okay, enough, if you get this many,
- 51:58Speaker 3: you get an automatic one, you get an automatic one. Yeah.
- 52:01Speaker 1: I love shet Yo.
- 52:02Speaker 3: I love shet.
- 52:05Speaker 1: Yo. When she was under Nicks, he was he was cooked,
- 52:08Speaker 1: he was done. But he you know, he had a
- 52:10Speaker 1: couple of good moments for us, the best being when
- 52:13Speaker 1: you know, we were up by a bunch at one
- 52:15Speaker 1: point and the crowd was chanting this name exactly New
- 52:17Speaker 1: York Knicks. This ain't even like our guy, but we're
- 52:20Speaker 1: out here chanting, fucking we want Sheed. And then Mike Brown,
- 52:24Speaker 1: they have the audio of him been like you want
- 52:26Speaker 1: to go, and he's like yeah, He's like alright, let's go,
- 52:28Speaker 1: and he gets up and runs say, oh my god,
- 52:30Speaker 1: the crowd goes fucking bananas. People don't understand. For Shee
- 52:32Speaker 1: Wallace was in the wrong era. If she Wallace playing
- 52:35Speaker 1: today's era, that motherfucker would be so goddamn good if
- 52:39Speaker 1: he played in the era first of all, where from
- 52:40Speaker 1: the time you're very young, you get people around you
- 52:43Speaker 1: that that force you to take it very seriously. He
- 52:47Speaker 1: famously would not touch a basketball the entire summer, and
- 52:52Speaker 1: then would come back after not touching the basketball. And
- 52:55Speaker 1: I'm talking on shit. I remember him in college obviously,
- 52:58Speaker 1: but then I really remember him in Philly too. But
- 53:00Speaker 1: they say, you know, especially when he's in Philly, he's
- 53:02Speaker 1: just like you know, around his beat, Yo, he go chill,
- 53:05Speaker 1: he's chilling, comes in, hasn't touched the basketball all summer, starts,
- 53:10Speaker 1: you know, shoots a couple of threes all of a
- 53:12Speaker 1: sudden's shooting like left handed threes from half court, and
- 53:14Speaker 1: he's making them.
- 53:15Speaker 3: Dude, get a a lot of suspensions for his text.
- 53:18Speaker 1: Though, Yeah, of course he did, but they he was misunderstood,
- 53:21Speaker 1: more misunderstood than fucking Draymond.
- 53:23Speaker 2: Okay, he was misunderstood to a certain extent.
- 53:27Speaker 1: Free Sheet. I love fucking Rashid Wallace, man, he was
- 53:32Speaker 1: I see.
- 53:32Speaker 3: To me.
- 53:34Speaker 1: It was everybody talks about the other two. To me,
- 53:37Speaker 1: it was a three person conversation. As far as and
- 53:40Speaker 1: let's go four, I realize at one point in their
- 53:44Speaker 1: absolute peaks the NBA power forward position, it consisted of
- 53:51Speaker 1: guys like Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, Rasheed Wallace, and Chris
- 53:56Speaker 1: Webber at their peak, all at the same time. That
- 54:04Speaker 1: shit is crazy, man. That's I mean, all guys who
- 54:10Speaker 1: were multifaceted, who contributed to winning teams and in some
- 54:19Speaker 1: ways changed the game and what we look at as
- 54:22Speaker 1: far as the modern power forward. What a time all
- 54:28Speaker 1: four of those guys. Man, listen, if young kids go
- 54:31Speaker 1: fucking and everybody talks about Garnet and Duncan, Chris Weber
- 54:38Speaker 1: was the man for years on a really good team,
- 54:42Speaker 1: on the second best team in the entire NBA. And
- 54:46Speaker 1: Sheed do not sleep on sheet. She Walls was nice, nice,
- 54:55Speaker 1: very very versatile. You know, shit, we needed more shots,
- 55:00Speaker 1: more threes. Wrong era, man, wrong era for sheet, wrong
- 55:04Speaker 1: era for for most not Duncan. Duncan played in the
- 55:07Speaker 1: perfect era that was perfect for him that time, late
- 55:10Speaker 1: nineties early two thousands, he was That's that's that was
- 55:14Speaker 1: the perfect era for Duncan. I would say that when
- 55:17Speaker 1: it comes to when it comes to when it comes
- 55:21Speaker 1: to Weber, Yes, Garnett changed the game. He changed how
- 55:25Speaker 1: basketball's played from guys who were his size. And I
- 55:31Speaker 1: think Chris Webber was a great passer. That Sacramento ten,
- 55:35Speaker 1: that whole fucking team could pass. Jason Williams. I love
- 55:39Speaker 1: watching Jason Williams in the podcast space. He's hilarious. I mean,
- 55:43Speaker 1: he's got all these like you know, that's harder than
- 55:46Speaker 1: trying to piss into a hot soace bottle. Like he's
- 55:49Speaker 1: got all these like down fucking Southwest Virginia fucking phrases,
- 55:54Speaker 1: and he's just I saw him first, like do like
- 56:00Speaker 1: long form like podcast shit when he was on Flavoran
- 56:03Speaker 1: with Andrew Schultzen them and it was a fantastic episode.
- 56:07Speaker 1: Now I love that Arab basketball. I love Jason Williams.
- 56:12Speaker 1: One of my favorite players non Nicks ever loved him,
- 56:15Speaker 1: loved him, loved him from the time he came into
- 56:17Speaker 1: the league. For all the reasons, the white chocolate, the
- 56:19Speaker 1: Nike commercial, just the elbow pass did it all. One
- 56:24Speaker 1: of the most disappointed I've ever been. I went to
- 56:27Speaker 1: go see my dad got me, gave me and my
- 56:30Speaker 1: boy Eric Gaston. Shot to my boy Eric Gaston, my
- 56:33Speaker 1: on court running mate throughout basketball growing up. Good gas connection.
- 56:37Speaker 1: You already know what it is. But we went to
- 56:40Speaker 1: go see the Kings versus the Knicks. Obviously I got
- 56:47Speaker 1: on the room for the Knicks, but I was excited
- 56:49Speaker 1: to go out the Kobe and Jason Williams are two
- 56:51Speaker 1: two players that I ever was like excited to go
- 56:52Speaker 1: watch them play, even though they're playing against the Nicks.
- 56:54Speaker 1: I want you to lose, but I'm excited to watch
- 56:56Speaker 1: you play. Jason Williams got fucking like two techs and
- 57:01Speaker 1: got tossed in like the second quarter. I was pissed.
- 57:04Speaker 1: Might have been the first quarter, yo, I was pissed,
- 57:08Speaker 1: but uh yeah man uh him on the whole podscast,
- 57:11Speaker 1: space and everything, he says, it's great. That fucking Sacramento
- 57:14Speaker 1: team was good. They got even a little bit better
- 57:16Speaker 1: when they moved off from Jason Williamson went to Mike Baby,
- 57:19Speaker 1: honestly more of a shot maker. But when that young
- 57:22Speaker 1: Jason Williams flicking it out the pasia, fucking Vlotty with
- 57:26Speaker 1: the over the headship. They you know, fucking and then
- 57:29Speaker 1: Weber was great. Yo. Those teams are fucking good, man.
- 57:32Speaker 3: They weren't seem as a team that should have won.
- 57:35Speaker 3: And I'd be remissive. I don't talking about my guy
- 57:37Speaker 3: Bobby Jackson coming off the bench.
- 57:40Speaker 1: He was nice Minnesota legend, a true combo guard off
- 57:45Speaker 1: the bench. Come in, pressure cooker, get you some buckets,
- 57:48Speaker 1: get everybody all fired up. That fucking that that that
- 57:51Speaker 1: that arena back then was crazy. Yeah, man, yeah, Rick Adelman, Yeah, man,
- 58:00Speaker 1: I have no idea how we got to a love
- 58:03Speaker 1: fest for the Sacramento of teams of the late nineties
- 58:08Speaker 1: in the early two thousands, but you know, they were
- 58:11Speaker 1: great teams, and those are those teams to me kind
- 58:14Speaker 1: of felt like those Knicks teams when the Bulls, even
- 58:17Speaker 1: though they were in their own conference, but they were
- 58:19Speaker 1: the second best team. Like the Knicks would have beaten
- 58:20Speaker 1: those teams from the Western Conference if they would have
- 58:23Speaker 1: just not had the Bulls to deal with every single year,
- 58:26Speaker 1: they would have beaten some of those teams. But Sacramento
- 58:29Speaker 1: was kind of like that. For the Lakers, no doubt.
- 58:33Speaker 3: Yeah, they absolutely were the Lakers with the Kings krypt Night,
- 58:36Speaker 3: and if you move it up a generation, it was
- 58:37Speaker 3: like the Rockets and the Warriors few years that. You know,
- 58:40Speaker 3: Rockets were arguably the second best team and second best
- 58:42Speaker 3: team in the league at that point, maybe the Cavs,
- 58:46Speaker 3: but they just couldn't get around the Warriors. They'd run
- 58:48Speaker 3: the Warriors, and the Warriors would smack them down.
- 58:51Speaker 1: I hear you. But they still had James Harden, so
- 58:55Speaker 1: you know, even if they were able to get past
- 58:56Speaker 1: the Warriors, they would have found a way to suck
- 58:58Speaker 1: it up. Scatterby. What's up with your boy? Man? What's
- 59:03Speaker 1: up with your boy? Your your your fellow Arizona State alum,
- 59:09Speaker 1: the current running back for the Giants, who is on
- 59:11Speaker 1: the shelf after a horrific leg injury ankle injury last
- 59:16Speaker 1: year and now he's on stage in jeans doing backflips
- 59:20Speaker 1: with a sketchy landing. Is what is going on?
- 59:24Speaker 3: The guy never learned? Uh, I mean, the guy is
- 59:28Speaker 3: always gonna be himself, you know, not even long after
- 59:30Speaker 3: the injury itself happened. This dude's sitting on like Xbox
- 59:34Speaker 3: Live playing a video game, asking about how you meet
- 59:36Speaker 3: a taco a couple of weeks later, he's in a
- 59:39Speaker 3: WWV event on his ankle scooter and now he's at
- 59:43Speaker 3: Fanatics Fast trying to do a backflip, and he said
- 59:45Speaker 3: he's never gonna change. I don't know what to make
- 59:48Speaker 3: of it, but John Harball had a funny quote to
- 59:50Speaker 3: they say, dude, just stick the.
- 59:51Speaker 2: Landing, right if you're gonna do.
- 59:54Speaker 1: If you do that and you stick the landing, people
- 59:56Speaker 1: feel a lot better about it than if you don't.
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: Jalen Brunson a couple of years ago, after we lost to.
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: It wasn't last season, it was the season before after
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: we lost to Indiana him and because Aliburn's a big
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: wrestling guy too, and they had their beef and whatever.
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: And at one point Brunson had his right hand they
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: had just had surgery on and as he was getting
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: to the ring, he put it in a very awkward
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: position and put some weight on it, and I was like,
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: JBO two and this is even worse.
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: Yeah. I feel the same way about Skataboo man. He
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: was having such a good season too until he got hurt.
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: He ripped that number one job for the Giants almost immediately,
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: like it took that one little flare, that little swing
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: patch out of the flat and for him to run
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: a dude for six yards to be like, Okay, this
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: is the guy that's not Tyron Tracy. Obviously the injury
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: happened and they're expecting some pretty big things from him
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: at DARTH this year. So yeah, I just gotta watch
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: himself and be careful. Yeah, as you said, chill, yeah.
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: Man, come on, man, let's go scataboo like I, meandde
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: you got a lot in front of you right now.
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: The Giants gotta upstart.
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: They got a brand new coach, they got you know,
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: they got some shit going right now. Like I get it. Obviously,
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: Look if he's doing that, then clearly in his workouts
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: the things he's doing and you know, I'm sure he's
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: I'm sure he's pulled off some backflips before and pulled
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: him off and done him well, and everything's going okay.
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: I just you know, I think that we could go
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: I personally, I think we should all go ahead and
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: just eliminate the backflip all together. And you know, you're
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: not a gymnast. I've seen UFC dudes, I've seen NFL guys,
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: I've seen college guys. You know, get hurt in their celebrations,
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: flips and jumping up on the cages and running into
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: you know, stanchions and shit. Come on, it's a fucking chill.
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: I just think that, like if I was, if I
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: was a Giants fan, that shit would piss me off.
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: I'd be like, Yo, what the fuck are you doing?
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: And yeah, I'm sure, I'm sure that Harball's conversation with
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: him was not as a glib and uh you know
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: fun as the quote that we saw from him today.
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: The Mets do not trade for Cisco Lindor. I'm so
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: tired of this fucking discourse all over the place where
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: people talking about I mean, he's got the second best
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: war or like the third best war in the entire
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: majors since twenty twenty one. I come on, what are
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: we doing. There's not a bunch of shortstops out there
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: hanging from trees, especially ones who have had huge clutch
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: moments like he has for us. And yeah, I don't
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: want to give this too much, too much air. I
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: just really hope that Sterns isn't that stupid. But I
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: have no evidence right now that Stern's is not a
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: fucking idiot you sent me something about Reggie Miller says
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: he takes Kobe over Lebron. I did not catch this
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: at all. Catch me up.
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: So Reggie Miller the other day was talking about who
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: he would have on, you know, Kobe or Lebron. Just
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: pulling up. He said he basically views Kobe as a
- 1:02:54Speaker 3: Michael Jordan clone who perfected as fundamentals to become Mike
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: on steroids, and he ranked cod as the second greatest
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: player ever over Lebron. Okay, okay, I know you don't
- 1:03:06Speaker 3: like Reggie over very much that I feel like this
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: is something with him you could get behind.
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: Yeah, fuck Reggie, but I agree with him on this.
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: I think that, you know, I think that when we
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: when we're getting into the nitty gritty of the greatest
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: ever you have, you have to take a step back
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: and say, Okay, first of all, if you if you
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: end up being called the third best ever or the
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: fourth best ever or whatever, you know, I don't really
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: think that that should feel like such just like a
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: like a horrible like you know, like just like, oh,
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: like it's such disrespect. Lebron is the only one who
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: consistently wants to get out there in front of everybody
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: and say that he's the best ever. Jordan doesn't say
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: that shit. Bird and Magic don't say that shit. Kareem
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: doesn't say that shit. Wilt Chamberlain didn't say that. Bill
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: Russell didn't say that. Lebron's the only one that gets
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: out there and wants to scream it for everybody to hear. Personally,
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: I like to limit discussions to things I've seen, but
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: I think that if you look at just like the
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: lore of them and overall career, I think you could
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: make arguments for the Larry Birds and for the Kareems,
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: and for the Magics being better than Lebron that whole
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: you know, being with one or two teams winning a
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: lot of championships with that one team, there's something to
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: be said for that that Lebron doesn't have and he
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: never will. So to me, I think that you know,
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: that puts him out of that conversation. For me personally,
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: just in players that I've ever seen play in my lifetime,
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: I would have to definitely go Jordan number one. Number
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: two see and this is something that almost nobody agrees
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: with me.
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: Number two.
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: For me, players that I've seen in my lifetime, it's
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: a kim Olaijuan A Keem was otherworldly. And again another
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: guy who played in the wrong era, and another guy
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: who if he if he would have played in a
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: different era, who knows where his game could have went
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: because he did so many things on the floor. Led
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: the NBA in blocks and assists, I'm sorry, blocks and
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: steals in the same season, which is unheard of and honestly,
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: probably should have been a little bit more selfish and
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: you need to put up way bigger, you know, like
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: scoring numbers. But he played within the offense. But I mean,
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: just absolutely fantastic player to me, honestly, there's a part
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: of me that wants to rank Tim Duncan ahead of
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: Lebron as far as players I've seen play all with
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: one team five chips, got chips with like two different
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: eras of teams, similar to Kobe, and just gave you
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: exactly what you needed all the time, every time. In
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: the clutch. Game evolved a little bit with that second
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: unit where you know he's with Manu and when he's
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: with Parker as opposed to when he's one of the
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: Twin Towers with David Robinson. Yeah, man, you know I
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: got Timmy O Lebron just all time player. I think
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: all time player is not just how skilled one player.
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: Lebron is the most skilled person ever touched basketball as
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: far as the array of different things that he has
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: been able to be one of the absolute best in
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: the league and during his career. Okay, that being said,
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: I don't use that to measure when I talk about
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: greatest best player.
- 1:07:06Speaker 3: I think with Grant's best player, winning has to factor
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: into that too.
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: I have Lebron's got four chips though, so he do.
- 1:07:13Speaker 3: But he also got bodied by j. J. Burray and
- 1:07:15Speaker 3: disappeared in the final, which you can You can't say
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: the same for the other guys that you've mentioned. Which
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: is my favorite argument to share with you because I
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: know you and I both agree on I have a question.
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: It kills the Jordan argument. It kills the Jordan argument.
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: You can never argue Lebron versus Jordan because there is
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: no twenty eleven finals for Jordan ever in his life,
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: in his career.
- 1:07:33Speaker 3: Not close. Where are you putting steps Yeah.
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: It's Stephan Is.
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: I think I think Steph's had a better career than
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: Lebron James. Now, if we're talking about.
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: Greatest player of all time.
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: I don't know if I can say that's a tough
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: one man. For as all the reasons I just said,
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: it should be Steph, right, I should say Stephan over Bron.
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: Steph is one of the Okay, so this is the difference.
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: To me, I've never got a chance to see Steph
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: play on a team where the team was shit and
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: he had to fucking just make something out of nothing,
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: even if like like, Steph never even had like the
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: times where you know, he got the teams in the
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: deep playoff runs but they weren't able to win. Just
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: because of his heliocentric and just overall dominance and greatness,
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: Steph has been in a good position his entire career.
- 1:08:35Speaker 3: You know, I'm gonna I'm gonna actually push back on
- 1:08:37Speaker 3: this one a little bit too, because if you look
- 1:08:39Speaker 3: at their runs in thirteen and fourteen, Clay hadn't become
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: what he became yet, Draymond had not become what he
- 1:08:45Speaker 3: became at that point. He was coming up a bench
- 1:08:47Speaker 3: for those first couple of playoff runs and.
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: Steph playing behind David Lee.
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: Yeah exactly, but still it was Steph's brilliant and his
- 1:08:54Speaker 3: shooting that at least you know, got them through a round,
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: round and a half and then twenty two was run.
- 1:09:01Speaker 3: I mean it was Steph dragging them a lot of knights.
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: Even you know, Jordan Poole had Knights where he'd have it,
- 1:09:07Speaker 3: he didn't have it. But it was Steph night after
- 1:09:09Speaker 3: night after night, with the exception of a game or
- 1:09:11Speaker 3: two where he didn't in the past couple of years,
- 1:09:14Speaker 3: especially if you look at that playing game against the Clippers,
- 1:09:17Speaker 3: it was him. It was step dragging the Warriors every
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: night because you never knew what was going to show
- 1:09:24Speaker 3: up from them the last couple of years. So that's
- 1:09:26Speaker 3: my little push back there.
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: I Okay, everything you just said is legit, no doubt.
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: What I'm saying to you is that none of those
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: rosters that he played on, and Steph definitely has times
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: where he carries the warrior. Steph is I mean, he's
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: fucking Steph. None of those rosters that he ever played
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: on had Zajunis Ilgauskas is the second best player that
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: that that team, that six evan Cavs team where you know,
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: we were trying to talk about the contributions of Larry Hughes.
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: Come on, man, Donielle Mitchell. This is not a let's
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: let's he's no, none of those teams are ever the
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: I don't care if it's a young Clay and David Lee.
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: He Lebron would have loved fucking David Lee back then.
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: Not quite, not quite those teams.
- 1:10:27Speaker 3: Yeah, that Stephan Catherine was insane. Don't forget Booby Gibson either.
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: Booby Yo, that's like that's that ship where where Larry
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: Bird said like he doesn't he doesn't trade for any
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: players that used to play with Lebron. And he's like,
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: because they're not as good as you think they are.
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: Damon Jones, these types of guys like they're not as
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: good when they get away from Bron.
- 1:10:48Speaker 3: Say, I wonder how David Jones is doing right now,
- 1:10:53Speaker 3: him and Chauncey and our boy gil.
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I see. So look, I think that with Damon Jones,
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: I think it's pretty clear that he's willing to flip.
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: He's like, yo, what do y'all need to know? So
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: I think he'll be all right, he'll you know and whatever,
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: and you know. And I think Gilbert he was sitting
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: there and then out of there pretty quick, So I
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: think he might be willing to flip as well, and
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: I don't know that for sure, So I want to
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: put that on my man, gil Gilbert, who you know,
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: I've I've exchanged some d MS with him back in
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: the day. I put that in the chat, yeah, our chat,
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: our chat p P, you know, us talking about him,
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: and he put it onto his story a while back.
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: Me you know, I you know, I'm getting back to,
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: you know, being all right with Gillers for a minute. Man, listen,
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: I still, in my opinion, he owes Karl Anthony towns A,
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: he owes him an apology. I think that he came
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: out and he said something about him that was beyond
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: a level of disrespectful. And I know that he kind
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: of he kind of he's in that space of getting
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: you know, kind of I think kind of clip farming
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: and being and trying to be you know, flammatory to
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: get attention. And I just think the way he came
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: a Cat, and especially with the way that you know,
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: Cat performed at the end of the season throughout the
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: finals against the Golden Boy. And I've heard him give
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: Cat props. I've heard him give Cat props for the
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: way that he's played. I haven't heard him say yeah,
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: that shit I said. Not only was it a little
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: bit out of line for me to say it, period,
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: but on top of that, he is just soundly proved
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: me wrong. I would like that from Gil, I would,
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: but uh yeah, ok again where this all started. Kobe
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: over Lebron, I think absolutely, I think that. I think
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: that Lebron is a better basketball player than anybody I've
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: ever seen. But I think will how your career goes,
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: just your overall persona, personality, clutch, gene, all of those
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: things are factors when we talk about greatest players ever.
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: I think, honestly, you know, one of the things that
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: I think is really missing from Steph's resume is the
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: dominant finals with huge buckets down the clutch in multiple games.
- 1:13:18Speaker 3: Twenty twenty two Finals mvp A. Game four was an
- 1:13:22Speaker 3: all timer forty three in Boston. Baby, what a game
- 1:13:27Speaker 3: that was. In Game six when they went on that
- 1:13:29Speaker 3: crazy run twenty one nothing run to basically ice that
- 1:13:32Speaker 3: in the second quorder. Yeah, now, step Bath.
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: Is again I think, listen, all those things are true.
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: I don't think that's that's not the good Again, we're
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: talking about the tops at the top, the best of
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: the best. I don't think he has the signature late
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: game moments in the playoffs in the finals as much
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: as Jordan, as much as a Kobe, as much as
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: a Jalen Brunson. He doesn't. He doesn't. And you know
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: that twenty two, twenty two did a lot for Steph
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: and his overall, like you know, when it comes to
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: this conversation, because prior to that, he had a lot
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: of times where he quite frankly, you know, kind of
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: came up small, small as the wrong war came up
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: short because came up small. He didn't, he didn't shrink
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: from the moment, but he came up so he came
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: up short in moments in the finals.
- 1:14:28Speaker 2: So I feel like.
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: Even even bron has had some more signature late game
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: moments in the playoffs and in the finals than Steph has.
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: In my opinion, some of those against Steph honestly.
- 1:14:44Speaker 3: Yeah, I was gonna say, I don't disagree with that.
- 1:14:46Speaker 3: And if you look at even some of those finals
- 1:14:48Speaker 3: that the Warriors won, it was Kad who had the
- 1:14:51Speaker 3: big signature moments, especially at seven and teen eighteen. He
- 1:14:54Speaker 3: hit the two big shots in Game three of both
- 1:14:56Speaker 3: those series to effectively put.
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: The Castley in This is what I mean when I
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: say that as great as Steph has been, he's always
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: had a stacked deck. To a certain extent, he's been
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: he's won four finals and he's only won one finals MVP.
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: You know, Eguadala wins one, KD wins two and then
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: he gets that last one.
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: And I mean, that's what I'm saying.
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: Uh, you know, if Lebron's on a team in the finals,
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: he's you know, especially during his prime, he's winning finals
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: MVP definitely.
- 1:15:30Speaker 3: Although in sixteen always says this, I always thought I
- 1:15:33Speaker 3: should have won the finals MVP that year, sause they
- 1:15:35Speaker 3: don't get they don't make that comeback without his games.
- 1:15:40Speaker 3: There are a couple of games where he had forty
- 1:15:43Speaker 3: in there and obviously if a shot to clinch that series.
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: Huge shot, couple of big games.
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: That's that's equadala block, right, That's that is that that year,
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: that's the one. Okay, so the biggest, like a seminal,
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: huge moment. I mean, like you know, that's the yeah,
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: og for a second peaked into the to the finals
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: MVP race conversation because of you know, what he was
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: doing on both ends, but having also that huge moment.
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: But Lebron.
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: What year Finals?
- 1:16:22Speaker 3: Is that sixteen?
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: Lebron's sixteen Final stats. I think it's one of those
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: things where Lebron's stats were so overwhelming that you could
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: not make them the the what's his name the MVP,
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: because yeah, when you average twenty you have twenty nine
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: point seven points, eleven point three rebounds, eight point nine
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: er says, two point six steals in two point three
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: blocks per game, you cannot give the MVP to anybody else.
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: I don't know a fuck. What moments they had, one
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: of the big games they had, those those those those
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: numbers are too dominant.
- 1:16:56Speaker 3: Yeah, Kyrie in that in those final three games of
- 1:16:59Speaker 3: the Final, forty one twenty three and twenty six points
- 1:17:02Speaker 3: respectively on to six rebounds and uh like six assists.
- 1:17:08Speaker 3: Uh yeah, three rebounds, six assists in game five, three assists,
- 1:17:12Speaker 3: four boards. In game six, only one assist and uh
- 1:17:16Speaker 3: six and six boards in game seven.
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: Oh, game seven, he was he was shooting. Yeah, he's
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: putting up, He's putting them from me. He was, and
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: he was, I mean, come on, he had the biggest shot,
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: the biggest shot. But you know, also, you know Lebron's
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: averaging over six stocks in that no, just about six
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: four point no, yeah, okay, two point six was all right,
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: So two point six steals two point three blocks. I
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: mean he was dominating on both ends of the floor,
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: was guarding Steph a lot. Had the block on Steph
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: where he looked at Steph and talked ship. That was
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: one of the few times I was like, there this
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: is That was that version Lebron. If he was that
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: version all the time, he'd be he'd be closer to
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: Kobe and Michael. He'd be closer, all right. So last thing,
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: especially for the off season, we're running long today. It's
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: been a good one yo. Man. Definitely, if you're in
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: the replay game, hit the comments, hit make sure that
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: you hit like you hit subscribe, make sure that you
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: listen to us wherever you can find your audio podcasts,
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: and hit the hit the notification button, go to YouTube
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: subscribe there, hit the notification button. Let's know when we're
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: going live. Cadence right now has been you know, Tuesdays
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: and Fridays. We're gonna try to keep it there as
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: consistent as we can with our busy lives. But yeah, man,
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: so yesterday it came out that there was gonna be
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: some ESPN layoffs, and the first one that we learned
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: about is probably the most prominent, and that is Ryan Clark.
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: There's a lot of different there's a lot of different
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: aspects of this that I've interesting, fascinating, somewhat sad, a
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: little bit upsetting, and so we're gonna we're gonna start
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: off first and foremost with the way that it happened.
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: Ryan Clark was live on NFL Live, the recently Emmy
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: nominated NFL Live, which he's an integral part of. He
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: was live on set and during a commercial break, somebody
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: came over and let him know that he was being
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: let go. So then he then, you know, didn't finish
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: the show. Obviously, I can't see why you would, you know,
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: got out of there. I have heard a few different
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: excuses for why this has happened. That they were going
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: to try and let him know that that the plan
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: was to let him know this morning Tuesday morning, but
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: that it leaked and it got out, and they wanted
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: to make sure that that he didn't find out via
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: social media or you know, somebody reaching out to let
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: him know what they had seen, as opposed to hearing
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: directly from his superiors at ESPN. I don't know exactly
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: what happened here, how exactly that it ended up playing
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: out the way that it did. I would like to
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: hope that that part is not was not something that
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: anybody in ESPN wanted to do. There wasn't anything mean
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: spirited about it, regardless it's bullshit. I mean, come on, man,
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: you have this guy come in, get dressed, get prepared,
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: sit through you know, hair and makeup and shit, and
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: during a commercial you walk up to him and let
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: him know that he's been canned. That that shit is crazy.
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: That shit is crazy. Whatever transpired that led to that
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: being the outcome, led to that being the way that
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: Clark found out about this, and whoever is responsible for it,
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: their job should be in jeopardy, and at the very
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: least there should be an investigation internally on how exactly
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: did we get to this. Maybe you know, you guys
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: are having too many leaks, too many people know the information.
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: But at the end of the day, they knew they
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: were going to fire him obviously if it got out,
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: So at that point I don't understand why you want
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: to wait until Tuesday morning as opposed to just letting
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: him know Sunday Night. Very unfortunate the way that Ryan
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: Clark was done there. I also, you know, when I
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: first saw this, I made a mistake of looking at
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: some of the comments underneath the announcement that he had
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: been fired, and it is just full of people that also,
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: you know, have the four letters in their bio that
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: I'm sure you can put together, and all of them
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: are talking about what a race bader he is and
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: you know, good riddance. I mean, it was overwhelming. I
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: had to catch myself after I don't know how exactly
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: how long I spent kind of scrolling and looking at
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: him and being like, ah, Jesus, okay, all right, that's enough,
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: get out of here.
- 1:22:45Speaker 3: I think a lot of it, a lot of the
- 1:22:47Speaker 3: hate comments to stem from Clay Travis really amplifying it
- 1:22:51Speaker 3: and celebrating it, because honestly, he is in that group,
- 1:22:55Speaker 3: and there's a lot of people in that group who
- 1:22:58Speaker 3: look to him as a media personality too, you know,
- 1:23:01Speaker 3: take direction. So him amplifying that really made that a thing.
- 1:23:08Speaker 3: And I heard it from people who I know in
- 1:23:10Speaker 3: that camp as well, who are the only they were
- 1:23:12Speaker 3: only talking about him, but they weren't really willing to
- 1:23:15Speaker 3: talk about the other people who were being let go either,
- 1:23:17Speaker 3: So there was some let's just say it was a
- 1:23:21Speaker 3: very poorly failed attempt to sufflict ship.
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, And you know, I do think there is
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: a lot of coded language and a lot of feelings
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: that have to do with the fact that Ryan Clark
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: is a proud black man who, whenever he feels appropriate,
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: is willing to bring up issues that he thinks that
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: race play a factor in. And like Klay Travis, the
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: little I know about him, fuck him. He's a piece
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: of shit. But uh, and I really don't and I
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: don't know that much about the guy. I truthfully at
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: this point in my life. I don't.
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: I don't hate scroll, I don't. I don't consume stuff that.
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: I try my best to find people who don't necessarily
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: agree with everything that I do, but talk about things intelligently.
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: But people who clearly their entire goal is just to
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: be inflammatory and get attention as opposed to learn and
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: inform or even have fun. I just I can't put
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: time into him. I can't. I can't this part of
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: my life. But my interesting that for me, the Ryan
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: Clark thing is interesting because I don't always I I Okay.
- 1:24:46Speaker 2: I liked Ryan Clark as a player.
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: I liked him a lot once he first started going
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: off and he started doing stuff on TV, before he
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: even stopped being a player, I was like, this guy
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: is good at this. He's glib, you know, he's a
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: well dressed, you know, good looking guy, well put together,
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: and he comes up here and he knows what the
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: fuck he's talking about. And there's a lot of people
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: that almost anything that's on ESPN, they're going to dislike
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: anything that's on DESPN. It's become it's become like uncool
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: at this point, especially if you consider yourself the least
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: bit alternative. It's like, you know, fuck those guys at ESPN. Man,
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: there is that that That's definitely something that exists. And
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: a lot of people don't necessarily care for Ryan Clark
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: just because they don't like his style and the way
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: that he delivers things. They want journalists to be very
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: dry and boring, and they don't want them to have
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: any like sort of bizazz in the way that they
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: do it. A lot of people they don't like him because,
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: like I said, he's always willing to bring up when
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: things are race and they can when things are affected
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: by race, and they consider that to be race baiting.
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: I've never understood, especially in situations, and I've dealt with
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: this in my own personal life, where it's like you
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: know me, you know who I am, you know my
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: friend group, you know what my marriage and my household
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: look like. If I'm saying to you that I think
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: that something is affected by, influenced by, or race is
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: at play in what is happening here as opposed to
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: going to well you make everything about race, take a
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: second and try to understand why I feel that way,
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: because clearly, again if you look at the people around me,
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: you can see that I'm not making decisions based on race,
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: because it's all ends of the spectrum.
- 1:26:52Speaker 3: And so.
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: I always have a hard time with people who are
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: unwilling to just stop and wonder why it is that
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: this guy feels this way, and with him specifically, I
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: think that an interesting element of how I feel when
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: it comes to Ryan Clark is that he at one
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: point did something that I really disagreed with when he
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: went at RG three for and saying that like basically
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: like he can't have those conversations, he's not having those
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: conversations about what this effect is on a black woman
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: and what that you know, what the plight of her
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: and dealing with playing in this league, and and and
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: how things are covered between her and Caitlyn Clark and
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: all those He he can't, you know, he's not having
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: those conversations at home because maybe you know, may you
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: know because he married because he's.
- 1:27:49Speaker 2: Married to a white woman.
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: I'm married to a white woman. Okay. Ryan Clark also
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: has a kid with a white woman. It's not a
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: woman he's married to, but he is a kid with
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: the white woe. And uh, he came out with this
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: and made this and and you know, and and and
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: and and made this statement. And then there was a
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: clip put up of it, and I commented on it.
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: He commented back. He and I DMed each other, and
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: he first and foremost, because my whole thing was listen,
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: I got a black mother, I got a black sister,
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: plenty of black women in my in my family and
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: otherwise that I love and respect, and I very much
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: care about their plight. I very very much try my
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: best to see things through their lens and am sensitive
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: to the things that they deal with and go through.
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: I don't think that because you decide to marry somebody
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: out of your race, that that is you deciding to
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: totally aband and in your race. And anybody who knows
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: me and it spends any time around me, you know,
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: they can tell you that I'm still very much in
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: touch with my blackness, and it's still something that's very
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: important to me. And it's something that I make all
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: my biracial children understand and make sure that they are
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: in touch with, and especially as they get older, will
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: continue to have conversations with them and make them understand
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: who and what they are and what they come from
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: on both sides. But we live in America, so how
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: they're viewed by Greater America is something that they got
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: to understand as well. Nobody calls Obama the biracial president,
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: but you know, he points that he later made he
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: made to me in this as far as just how
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: it's not just about it. I think that he should
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: have done a better job of defining and sharing some
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: of the things that he had experienced with Robert Griffin
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: before he just made it about like, well, you have
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: a white wife. You can't say this yeah, or what
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: do you know because you're married to a white woman.
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: That's how it came off, and he explained it more later,
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: and he apologized later for the how he handled it
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: again again, I always respect the dude who can when
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: he does some shit wrong, says some shit wrong, be like,
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: you know what, I fucked up on that, and I
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: made a mistake. It's one of the things that we
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: all have to learn as we grow up, especially as men.
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: But that is when you've made a mistake. I do
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: not give out frivolous apologies at all if I don't
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: feel like I've made a mistake. Fuck that, I'm not
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: saying sorry, no, but uh, I just thought.
- 1:30:53Speaker 2: In this situation that he could have handled a little
- 1:30:55Speaker 2: bit better.
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: But yo, he has no idea who the fuck I am,
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: and he decided to have a discourse with me about it.
- 1:31:00Speaker 2: To me, that says a lot about the type of
- 1:31:02Speaker 2: dude that he is.
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: And he even said in his response to my the
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: comment that I made, he was like, all right, no doubt,
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: I shouldn't have brushed it with such a you know,
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: a broad stroke where I'm saying that you know, you
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: know you can't. You can't. Basically, you can't be in
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: an interracial relationship once that happens, and you basically have
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: to stop having opinions on anything that has to do
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: with black folks and black women.
- 1:31:26Speaker 2: He walked that back.
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: Immediately before he even did it, like outwardly to the
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: to the world. He walked that back immediately with me
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: in the comments. That says a lot about the dude,
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: and I think it showed a showing the The pivot
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: is fantastic. I mean, wow, what a what a combination
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: of three people, him, Channing and Fred and I just
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: think that it's great. They are excellent interviewers. They get
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: the biggest of the biggest as far as guests are concerned,
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: from the Kevin Harts of the Rocks to Obama to
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: they get the biggest of the biggest.
- 1:31:58Speaker 2: I mean Ben Afflack. You know, people obviously respect them
- 1:32:01Speaker 2: and what they do.
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: I think Ryan Clark does an excellent job of being
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: somebody who asks good question asks hard questions. I watched
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: the episode today with him and Dana White. Dana White's
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: a guy overall. I like Dana White. When he gets
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: on a podcast, especially a long form podcast, and gets
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: up there and talks, I agree with most of what
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: he says. He happens to be really close friends with
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: the guy who I think is vile. But yo, man,
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: I honestly, sometimes in life, when you're picking people to
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: enjoy their content, their personality, even down to their friendship,
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: you have to overlook certain things when it comes to
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: especially when it comes to politics. I get to a
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: point where to me, it's really hard to overlook what
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: we see right directly in front of our fucking face.
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: And I know a whole lot of people who might
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: not be coming out saying and I was wrong, or
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: might not be coming out saying we gotta we gotta
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: think that this is horrible. Things have to change, or
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: they might not be coming out and saying, hey, I'm
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: actually rooting for the other side now. But what they're
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: but what they are doing is all the some of
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: the especially some of the most avid supporters, it's not
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: so much support going on anymore. They might just be
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: playing the sidelines, but they're definitely not out in front,
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: waving the flag, wearing the hat. You see a whole
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: lot less of that across all walks of life. And
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: I think that when watching the when watching the interview today,
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: I love the fact that Ryan Clark asked him about
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: the dude on the White House lawn who said that
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: crazy shit about Michelle And I thought that Dana White
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: did a good job of He didn't like just do enough.
- 1:33:56Speaker 3: He was.
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: Effusive and how horribly thought it was and how stupid
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: it was. He did frame it kind of like we
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: just made such a great and such a perfect event
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: and you had to mess it up like that. Now
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: he didn't just do that.
- 1:34:12Speaker 2: He also added in just how stupid it was, this
- 1:34:15Speaker 2: and that and how right or left.
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: Everybody feels like, how stupid is that when this dude
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: says this, I think, if you have any brains, you
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: feel that way. But people that I've once thought was
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: somewhat smart, I've heard echo those same tropes and sentiments,
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: sentiments I should say, which is to me, that's why
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: I kind of write you off. I don't care how
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: long I know on you whatever. Like you know, if
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: this is the type of fucking just vile bullshit that
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: you're willing to peddle in, then I don't know, man,
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: I really ain't got much for you.
- 1:34:50Speaker 2: But he asked him about it. He took him the task.
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: I mean, like he didn't. He didn't let it slip,
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: like he didn't let it like he didn't just like,
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: you know, say it, and he made he said, he
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: asked the question in a way that Dana White respond
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: to it thoroughly, and then you know, he made sure
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: he didn't just like let it, you know, glance over
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: and get switched to something else.
- 1:35:10Speaker 2: He made sure that they stayed on it for a second.
- 1:35:12Speaker 2: I respect that.
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: I love that about Ryan Clark. You know, McAfee he
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: not gonna ask about that. I like McAfee shout to him.
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: He's about to get paid. They seem like they are
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: investing their money in steven A. McAfee. Those are the
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: two things that consistently bring eyes and ears to ESPN,
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: But it's really hard to feel like them.
- 1:35:42Speaker 2: Getting rid of Ryan Clark had just to do with.
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: His contract, his I guess, lack of ability to generate
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: as compared to that contract. He had the situation with
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: RG three. He had the other situation with the dude
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: where he said, well, you didn't play. I always thought
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: that there was so much made about that. Fucking athletes
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: say that to non athletes all the time, the whole
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: well you didn't play shit.
- 1:36:10Speaker 2: That's a big one.
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: I think it's kind of whack personally because It's just
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: like there's obviously been a lot of people who have
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: had great opinions about the games, who have been able
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: to be great coaches, great people that affect the game
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: in all these different ways that didn't play. I don't,
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: you know, I don't, But I also understand if you're
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: a guy who fucking played and you're being criticized by
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: some dude who never did it where there's a party
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: that it's like, dog, you don't even understand what the
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: fuck you're talking about. I get that. I think it's
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: okay for them to have that opinion, even if I
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: to just disagree with it. But the way that this
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: was handled, the fact that Ryan Clark seems like a
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: guy who is very respected in that space fuck with
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: fans since people say and people want to not like
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: cam out, I think he's this, I think he's that whatever.
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: Fuck all that bullshit as far as the stephen A's
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: of the world, who not only has them on his
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: show all the time, but also so just waxed poetically
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: for fifteen minutes about how upset he was that this
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: happened with Ryan Clark and told him then said that
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: he specifically that told ESPN that he disagrees with it.
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: He thinks the bad decision. I think when you look
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: at the way that the people that end up on
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: his podcast clearly the reach that it has, and also
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: people feeling comfortable wanting to sit down with you know,
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: him and his co hosts. This one seems a little
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: bit fishy. We've seen over and over we've seen ESPN
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: have to do these huge layoffs, and quite often there
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: are some huge names. They are usually not the people
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: who are as versatile and well respected as Ryan Clark,
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: who have their own platform, so therefore bring eyes that
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: they get from that platform to ESPN. And also it
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: does it usually happened during the commercial break of him
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: being on NFL Live, which just got nominated for Emmy.
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: By the way, it's fishy, man, there is something. There's
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: something about this one. It's a little bit fishy to me, Doug,
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: it really is. And I think it's one of those
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: things that will continue to the It'll come out and
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: Ryan Clark's gonna be just fine. It's like the pivot
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: and that what he's built over there. They I mean,
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: they could I heard, fuck who was I who was
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: I listening to earlier? That was talking about Ryan Clark.
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: It might have been it might have just been might
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: have been Stephen I don't know. Somebody's saying that they
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: just starting to pivot every day Monna do Friday mockers.
- 1:38:47Speaker 2: Well, hey, they will do big numbers.
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: They will be huge. I mean, I think about some
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: of the other shows, you know, whether it be five
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: point twenty or you know, Mason Cameron, it is what
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: it is that'll immediately be right on that level. Club
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: Shay Sha all that that' immediately be right on that level,
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: and so he'll be okay. Uh. I'm interested to get
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: some of the details of this because if it's fishy
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: to me, man, this shit ain't. They did not do
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: him right. Obviously, the way that they handled the actual
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: firing was pure bullshit. Just there's no if ans or
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: butts about how badly that was handled and fumbled by
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: ESPN brass.
- 1:39:27Speaker 2: But also, I think that the way we're in a.
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: Weird spot, man, We're in a weird spot where the
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: powers that be seem to have their tentacles and everything
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: and they're the whole. The so called freedom of the
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: press is something that is something it's hard to even
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: say that we currently have it.
- 1:39:51Speaker 2: At the highest levels.
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: It's clear that you have to toe certain lines or
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: you will no longer be employed. I think it makes
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: spaces like this and even bigger deal, and it makes
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: them even more popular because people just want to listen
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: to somebody that they know is being authentic and being real.
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: And I think that now Ryan Clark will have even
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: more of an opportunity to do that. I wish him
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: all the luck in it. And uh, I just you know,
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: there's something fishy, something fishy about this BOM.
- 1:40:29Speaker 2: You got anything on this or you got anything, man, I.
- 1:40:32Speaker 3: Would saying, I completely agree with you. It felt like
- 1:40:35Speaker 3: something you know, was up again just because of the
- 1:40:37Speaker 3: way it was being celebrated and talked about. But ESPN also,
- 1:40:41Speaker 3: you know, handled another one of those firings pretty shadily.
- 1:40:44Speaker 3: To Carl Ravits is another guy in that who was
- 1:40:49Speaker 3: let go because early because they were trying not to
- 1:40:52Speaker 3: let it leak out, and then he actually found out
- 1:40:54Speaker 3: through social media from a league.
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, to find from a league
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: when Carl Ravage, I mean, what has he been there
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: for fucking.
- 1:41:03Speaker 3: Twenty three years?
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: Thirty three years?
- 1:41:06Speaker 3: The dude was literally calling the Dodgers stillies game on
- 1:41:09Speaker 3: TV last night. I mean that dude was a Baseball
- 1:41:15Speaker 3: Tonight in our throwing up.
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I loved him on Baseball Tonight. I still don't
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: understand why they haven't been able to figure out an
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: iteration of Baseball Tonight. That's like exciting to watch on
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: a daily basis.
- 1:41:27Speaker 2: I don't understand that how they did.
- 1:41:31Speaker 3: You didn't time.
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: Right right, and it's a and you got so much.
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: There's just so many a clear listen. If it could,
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: if it could get eyeballs on it, they would do it,
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: you know what I mean at the end of the day.
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: But you know, I I liked him a lot as
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: the Baseball Tonight guy. I didn't love him as my
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: play by play guy Ravage personally. But he's been around,
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: he's been there doing for thirty fucking three years. And
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: he finds out from a fucking tweet. What how does it?
- 1:41:53Speaker 2: I mean, how leaky is your ship.
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: That y'all can't keep this type of stuff in house
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: for a couple of days. I don't get it.
- 1:42:06Speaker 3: I don't either. I mean, it's pretty nasty. With the
- 1:42:08Speaker 3: obviously the NFL network merger, which has been a big
- 1:42:11Speaker 3: thing of theirs, because they're paying uh not even they're
- 1:42:13Speaker 3: paying Max be and Steven A. Now they were also
- 1:42:17Speaker 3: paying a rap sheet. You know, probably whatever chefter's getting
- 1:42:21Speaker 3: h to go a team up with him. And you
- 1:42:24Speaker 3: know my chef, Tom pallisera another great NFL network guy,
- 1:42:27Speaker 3: is being let go in this uh shout out. You
- 1:42:30Speaker 3: know Boor and I said earlier in chat we were
- 1:42:34Speaker 3: college friends with the sisters.
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: No doubt. I would really somebody needs to really break this.
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: I would love a real breakdown of the money at
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: ESPN And maybe it might might even be something that
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: people really understand because it seems like they keep trying
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: to get bigger, acquiring more. You know, they they you know,
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: they made that big swing with ESPN that you know
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: had rand Square. I wouldn't don't even know if I
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: would say it didn't work out, but it did. What
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: it did is over there over with Paramount now. But
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: like it seems like all these huge different you know,
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: media companies are trying to like consolidate basically. I know,
- 1:43:06Speaker 1: the Paramount merger just got just got like it got
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: put on hold because people are saying that it's too
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: close to monopoly. But and I think especially when it
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: comes to media information, the stuff like that, having it
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: be diversified to a certain extent on the highest levels
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: is important. But by the time my kids are, you know,
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: the ones who are ruling the world, are people going
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: to be paying any attention to legacy media or are
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: you just going to be consuming you know, independent media
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: people who you find and either agree with or feel
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: like you can trust. Who knows. But I think the
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: whole situation where you have to continually fire all this talent,
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: but yet you can pay all this money for all
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: these TV rights and everything like that, It's like, I
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: just don't feel I feel like the margins can't be
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: that razor thin that It's like, you know what, I
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: don't either. I look at this balance sheet. It looks
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: you know, it's not looking good. But if we if
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: we get rid of Ryan Clark, okay, okay, So you have.
- 1:44:14Speaker 3: All the billions of dollars at the SEC, you have
- 1:44:16Speaker 3: all the billions of dollars in the NBA, you have
- 1:44:17Speaker 3: one hundreds of millions for NBA and Major League Baseball,
- 1:44:20Speaker 3: and now all this money to acquire NFL network. But
- 1:44:24Speaker 3: you only have enough money for two media personalities, and
- 1:44:28Speaker 3: Pat Acte and steven A.
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't get it.
- 1:44:33Speaker 2: I really don't. And you know, I just hope that
- 1:44:36Speaker 2: I hope it really.
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: I hope it really is some person that could sit
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: there with some spreadsheets and some formulas and could explain
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: it and it's not something more nefarious and more more
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: motivated by things that don't have anything to do with uh,
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: you know, performance and or you know work ethic.
- 1:44:55Speaker 3: Oh, for sure, it all sucks. It sucks to see people,
- 1:44:59Speaker 3: you know, lose their jobs to begin with. You and
- 1:45:01Speaker 3: I have been part of a mass lay not to
- 1:45:03Speaker 3: this level, for sure, we were there for it. Yeah,
- 1:45:06Speaker 3: I think it's worse to see people celebrating it and
- 1:45:08Speaker 3: celebrating certain people getting let go and fire. You know,
- 1:45:11Speaker 3: there's still a human size of this all, and like
- 1:45:13Speaker 3: you said, Ryan Tharp will be fine, but still kind
- 1:45:15Speaker 3: of just really land to see. And it also kind
- 1:45:17Speaker 3: of speaks to the society that we're kind of living
- 1:45:19Speaker 3: in right now too.
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, the celebration of people's demise to that extent.
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: Like you know, there's certain guys that like, Okay, so
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: I watched the stephen A one. You know, they're just
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: in preparation for this because I know, I want to
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: talk about it, and then my my fucking YouTube automatically
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: skipped to the next thing was Jason Whitlock, and my
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: phone was in the other room, and I have my
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: headphones on, so it took me a second to even
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: like register what was happening. And then I was like
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: walking into the other room to get to my phone,
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: and then it ended up even going a little bit
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: longer because what I was trying to do is I
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: was actually trying to like, like, on Twitter, you can
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: be like, yo, show me less of shit like this.
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: I couldn't figure out on YouTube how to be like yo,
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: I don't don't fucking show me no Whitlock shit, like
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: just zero, I want none of this from this fucking
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: uncle tom punk ass motherfucker. But so and and I,
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: you know, I saw the the the Witlock ship, and
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: it's just like, dude, you make like a whole thing,
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: like a whole like a whole segment of your show
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: where you're just like it basically just dancing on this
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: guy's ESPN grave when first of all, ESPN puts you
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: out the pasture a long fucking time ago. And I
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: fucking hate Whitlock, and I just I hate people who
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: like if trying to think there's nobody. There's nobody at ESPN,
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: and I like fucking hate that. I can't stand like, Okay,
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: Will Kine, which I think he's still he's still doing
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: some Fox News type something like that, right, But he's
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: one of those guys who he got the he left
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: ESPN to get the bag from Fox Sports. That didn't
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: work out for anybody. No, every person that did that,
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: they might they got the bread, but as far as
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: just like their overall popularity and everything moving forward, worked
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: out for zero of them. But uh, he went over
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: and he did that, and he was a guy who
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: I did not like. I did not like. I didn't like.
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: I didn't like the way he came off. I didn't
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: like his angle that he took on shit. I didn't
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: like the sound of his voice. I didn't like his fucking, stupid,
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: fucking choir boy suits. I didn't like anything about him.
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: If he got fired from ESPN, I would be like,
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: I would not spend ten fifteen minutes talking about how
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: like happy I was that he got fired. It's just
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: not I just don't have that energy, man, I don't.
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: If you know, whitlock, if Whitlock like fucking some shit
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: happened to him and he lost all his And I
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: just showed you, guys, how fuck it how I feel
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: about him. I have no like if he if some
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: shit went down, and I might spend a second on it. Man,
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: But these dudes who fucking just love to act like
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: fucking Ryan Clark is some crazy racist and race base
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: because he, you know, occasionally points out some things that
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: you might not consider when it has to do with
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: Angel Reese's side and how things are covered between her
- 1:48:13Speaker 1: and Caitlyn Clark.
- 1:48:14Speaker 2: And it just makes you hate this guy this much.
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: That's so weird to me. I don't get that energy.
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: I really don't. But you know, hey is gonna hate man.
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: They gonna do what they're gonna do. Hey Man, we
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: ran an extra long to day, but it was a
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: good one. I appreciate you, Bomb, my super producer. We'll
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: see you on Thursday, and you know we well hopefully
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: hopefully Lebron makes a decision between now and then.
- 1:48:35Speaker 2: So that's something to talk about.
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: Even though it seems like he's reveling in the fact
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: that he's you know, he don't he don't have to
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: make a decision he's not gonna rush.
- 1:48:43Speaker 3: Is he reveling in it or is he waiting for
- 1:48:45Speaker 3: a team or two or the teams that he's down
- 1:48:47Speaker 3: to to make another move. There's another interesting that one
- 1:48:51Speaker 3: other thing that you know we could also you know,
- 1:48:53Speaker 3: maybe get to hit on too, is you know how
- 1:48:56Speaker 3: we've hit on a number of times to Khi. Now
- 1:48:58Speaker 3: just talk about that. That thing might loom into training
- 1:49:02Speaker 3: camp in the season. So the n he's got to
- 1:49:05Speaker 3: stay in l A right pretty much.
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: Yeah, that's weird. That's awkward if he ends up having
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: to go back there and stay there. He clearly wanted
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: to be out. They were clearly willing to move him.
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: I mean, ship brandon Ingram right now, What the fuck
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: is he thinking? What's he doing?
- 1:49:19Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: No, that's a that's tough one. Man.
- 1:49:21Speaker 3: I listen.
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: Yeah, if you're Toronto, you got a chill on that.
- 1:49:25Speaker 2: You get a hold on it.
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: And it's so if you're Toronto fan and you were
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: so hype and you're feeling like, yo, man, look we're
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: at in Kawai. You know, we're a team. We can
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: really be something in the East and now all that
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: is just just in Limbo and there's no like real
- 1:49:36Speaker 1: news coming out about it. You would think that the
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: that the NBA would want to wrap that up sooner
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: rather than later. But again they're not. They're not stalling.
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: They're investigating, you know, they're not stalling and being like,
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: oh well no, no, they're they're they they want to
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: wrap that shit up.
- 1:49:54Speaker 2: There's just they're they're they're doing their due diligence.
- 1:49:57Speaker 1: And to me, if there's this much to look into,
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: there's gonna be something that comes out of it, and
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: I don't think it's gonna end up being good for Kawahi.
- 1:50:07Speaker 2: But yeah, man, we'll see you Thursday.
- 1:50:16Speaker 3: H
