- 0:01Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett. All Right, well, I had
- 0:06Speaker 1: a very spirited conversation with lu Terminello here on the
- 0:09Speaker 1: one Leg Up Network, which I'll be excited to post
- 0:11Speaker 1: a bit later before Game one of the World Series.
- 0:15Speaker 1: But but I read two stories today that are totally
- 0:21Speaker 1: you might say unrelated, but to me are related. Because
- 0:25Speaker 1: while the UOAA, the United OSTHME Association of America, is
- 0:31Speaker 1: saying save our ostemy supplies and catheters, there's a report
- 0:36Speaker 1: out saying the Pentagon got a one hundred and thirty
- 0:39Speaker 1: million dollar donation from an anonymous Trump friend to pay
- 0:45Speaker 1: military members. Look, I'm all for during this what twenty two,
- 0:50Speaker 1: twenty three, twenty five, I'm losing counts they shut down
- 0:54Speaker 1: that the military get paid. I believe in that they
- 0:57Speaker 1: are fighting to keep us free. So when I found
- 1:00Speaker 1: about this one hundred thirty million dollar donation, whoever, it
- 1:03Speaker 1: was good on them to keep the military paid. And
- 1:07Speaker 1: of course they're refusing to pay other federal workers, which
- 1:10Speaker 1: I find interesting at the same time, but I've I'd
- 1:15Speaker 1: love the energy of this donation to translate into taking
- 1:21Speaker 1: action for those with ostem supplies and catthetters. I would
- 1:28Speaker 1: love that this congressional letter in which representatives in the
- 1:35Speaker 1: House Reps Neil Dunn, Greg Murphy both urologists, urging CMB
- 1:43Speaker 1: CMS and OMB to withdraw cms's proposal to include ostomy
- 1:47Speaker 1: and neurological supplies and the Medicare Competitive Bidding program. Meaning,
- 1:52Speaker 1: as I've said before, you don't want to lose your supplies.
- 1:55Speaker 1: You don't want doctors and insurance companies to have to
- 1:59Speaker 1: put you on a different and supply network because you're
- 2:02Speaker 1: so used to that original supply network you have, you
- 2:06Speaker 1: don't want to have to change it. It will be a hassle.
- 2:09Speaker 1: But guess what. There was a bipartison letter sent on
- 2:11Speaker 1: October ninth, twenty twenty five, which has been signed by
- 2:14Speaker 1: twenty six members of Congress at this point, the Strategic
- 2:21Speaker 1: Advacacy Campaign UOA Rights. We would like to target the
- 2:25Speaker 1: House members who serve on the Energy and Commerce and
- 2:27Speaker 1: Ways and Means subcommittees who did not sign this congressional letter.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Energy and Commerce and Ways and Means have jurisdiction over
- 2:35Speaker 1: centers for Medicare and Medicaid services. See I didn't even
- 2:38Speaker 1: know that, but the Energy of Commerce, Energy and Commerce
- 2:42Speaker 1: and Ways and means committees have jurisdiction over senators for
- 2:46Speaker 1: Medicare and Medicaid services and can help move the needle
- 2:50Speaker 1: in a favorable direction. Here are the ones that they
- 2:53Speaker 1: are looking to send messages to. Congressmen Bill Congressman Cliff
- 2:58Speaker 1: Bentz of Oregon, A Republican, Congressman Buddy Carter, Republican in Georgia,
- 3:05Speaker 1: Indiana Representative Aaron Houchin or Hookin, Congressman John James in Michigan,
- 3:12Speaker 1: Tom Kean right in our backyard in Jersey, Davidkustaf and actually, well,
- 3:18Speaker 1: actually we were in Jeff and Drew's offices in March,
- 3:21Speaker 1: not Tom Keanes. Congressman Davidkustaff for Tennessee. Carol Miller West Virginia,
- 3:27Speaker 1: Blake Moore, Utah, Jay Obernalty California, Michael Rooley, Ohio, Greg
- 3:34Speaker 1: Steube in Florida, and actually our own Claudia Tenny Congressman
- 3:39Speaker 1: Claudia Tenny I. One of the above is your representative.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Please contact your member of the US House and urge
- 3:46Speaker 1: him to contact or her to contact CMS requesting that
- 3:51Speaker 1: the administration not move forward with this dangerous proposal to
- 3:56Speaker 1: literally cause many and you know there's million Americans with
- 4:01Speaker 1: ostemes and of course so many more with the cat
- 4:03Speaker 1: litters as well, to lose their supply base. You don't
- 4:06Speaker 1: want that to happen. We fought in Washington for people
- 4:10Speaker 1: to keep their preferred suppliers. We don't want that to
- 4:15Speaker 1: be undone. For any and all information, please and if
- 4:20Speaker 1: your receive response, please email Advocacy at ostame dot org.
- 4:26Speaker 1: This proposal is supposed to be finalized in November, so
- 4:29Speaker 1: UOAA is gathering up awareness now for us to write
- 4:33Speaker 1: these letters. And this goes back to the point as well.
- 4:38Speaker 1: I was as I call screamed from Mike Gallagher, I
- 4:41Speaker 1: find out they're still taking a paycheck, some of these
- 4:44Speaker 1: congress people and senators, most of them. In fact, now,
- 4:49Speaker 1: if you were elected me for Senate or Congress, I
- 4:51Speaker 1: would not take a paycheck during a time like this.
- 4:53Speaker 1: I think that's selfish. I think that's egotistical. I think
- 4:56Speaker 1: that's just stupid. You're not even working. In fact, most
- 4:58Speaker 1: of them that are paying again a paycheck are the
- 5:01Speaker 1: reason for the shutdown. I mean, there's no what nine
- 5:04Speaker 1: different resolutions have been rejected to keep the government to
- 5:09Speaker 1: open the government back up. That's ridiculous. To me. But
- 5:13Speaker 1: when it hits home and hits people. I don't like
- 5:16Speaker 1: to include myself because I feel very fortunate that I
- 5:19Speaker 1: can get the right supplies all that, but when it
- 5:21Speaker 1: does hit people like myself and others who need ustemy
- 5:25Speaker 1: supplies and catheters. Ah, my ears perk up here on
- 5:30Speaker 1: the adapting side of one leg up, Alex, my ears
- 5:36Speaker 1: perk up and my eyes perk up. And for these
- 5:39Speaker 1: Congress people to be aware is important. And I'm glad
- 5:43Speaker 1: they named the ones we need to quote unquote target.
- 5:50Speaker 1: The officials we have targeted will be displayed only to
- 5:53Speaker 1: their constituents. This is determined when the advocates enter their
- 5:57Speaker 1: valid address in that official district, so none of the
- 6:00Speaker 1: are in my district. We love Grace Meng by the way,
- 6:03Speaker 1: she's a very strong advocate for people with disabilities and
- 6:05Speaker 1: for the UOA and the Digestive Disease Coalition. But I mean,
- 6:14Speaker 1: if we can, you know, celebrate one hundred and thirty
- 6:19Speaker 1: million dollars going to the Pentagon during this shutdown, there's
- 6:24Speaker 1: no reason why we can't take that energy and make
- 6:27Speaker 1: sure a bill that could harm these folks who use
- 6:34Speaker 1: ostomes and catheters from being passed and we should derail it,
- 6:43Speaker 1: and it would be nice to bring it to their
- 6:47Speaker 1: attention as they're knocking down the East wing of the
- 6:49Speaker 1: White House. I have to say that it would be
- 6:53Speaker 1: nice if we could not only get the Rep's attention,
- 6:56Speaker 1: but this is an administration proposal. This congressional letter is
- 7:02Speaker 1: by partisans, so more congression, more Republicans should be willing
- 7:06Speaker 1: to sign on to this. In some instances, you have
- 7:10Speaker 1: to go against Trump, and this is one of them.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Because I'm not gonna sit here. And as much as
- 7:17Speaker 1: I can laud him for the release of the hostages
- 7:20Speaker 1: almost a week ago, over a week ago now, there's
- 7:23Speaker 1: still more work to be done. This has not been
- 7:26Speaker 1: the best second term for him. But if he can
- 7:29Speaker 1: make life easier for people with ostemy supplies and catheters,
- 7:33Speaker 1: I will commend him for that right here on one
- 7:35Speaker 1: leg up Alex. But until that proposals off the table,
- 7:38Speaker 1: cancel whatever you want to call it. We're gonna pressure
- 7:41Speaker 1: a little more. We're gonna I don't know, I'm gonna
- 7:46Speaker 1: tag all these different people, but we're gonna bring awareness
- 7:50Speaker 1: to these congress people to even during shutdown, do their job.
- 7:57Speaker 1: You're getting paid to do the tonight, even be there
- 8:00Speaker 1: on an official basis. So do something with that, Do
- 8:05Speaker 1: something with that, and it will help millions of Americans
- 8:11Speaker 1: with their healthcare and their peace of mind in a
- 8:16Speaker 1: very unsteady world. It'll actually help people have one leg
- 8:18Speaker 1: up for their ostomy supplies and their medical supplies all
- 8:22Speaker 1: the whole, if you think about it, and isn't that
- 8:24Speaker 1: what we want for everyone? Accessibility and adaptability. That's what
- 8:31Speaker 1: we strive for here at the One Leg Up Network.
- 8:33Speaker 1: I'm gonna share this action page with you and do
- 8:36Speaker 1: join along if you have represent a representative in any
- 8:39Speaker 1: of these districts that I mentioned, Cliff Bentz, Buddy Carter,
- 8:44Speaker 1: Aaron Hookin or Houchin, John James, Tom Keane Junior, Davidkustaff,
- 8:49Speaker 1: Carol Miller, Blake Moore, Dre Obergilty, Michael Rooley, Greg Stube,
- 8:54Speaker 1: Claudia Tenney. Let's not let the supply crisis be overshadowed
- 9:04Speaker 1: by some dumb athlete who decided to take himself out
- 9:07Speaker 1: of a game to win one hundred thousand dollars bet.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Life is bigger than sports, and in this case, in
- 9:13Speaker 1: this case, ensuring people have their right medical supplies. I
- 9:17Speaker 1: find that so important. On that note, we will get
- 9:20Speaker 1: into the NBA gambling crisis because I want lu Terminello,
- 9:24Speaker 1: an NBA executive's thoughts on that. You'll hear that a
- 9:27Speaker 1: bit later in the pregame show for us before first
- 9:30Speaker 1: game of the World Series. It's so funny. It's so funny.
- 9:34Speaker 1: We have this crisis on our hands with the NBA
- 9:36Speaker 1: gambling scandal, yet something glorious first Game of the World Series.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Oh the same day, as we're trying to keep your
- 9:44Speaker 1: supplies in check and intact right here on one leg
- 9:47Speaker 1: up Alex
