- 0:05Speaker 1: Welcome to Deeply Well. This show is a soft place
- 0:08Speaker 1: to land on your journey, a.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Space where we explore what it truly means to live
- 0:14Speaker 2: well from the inside out, not perfectly, but honestly, with
- 0:20Speaker 2: all the complexity, the paradox, the beauty, and the wonder
- 0:24Speaker 2: of being human. Because in a world that is constantly
- 0:28Speaker 2: pulling at us, this is the space to come back
- 0:31Speaker 2: to yourself, to your body, your truth, to the practices
- 0:36Speaker 2: that genuinely sustain you, the ones that work when life
- 0:40Speaker 2: is actually happening. This show is for the seekers, the creatives,
- 0:46Speaker 2: the sensitive ones, for everyone doing the quiet, courageous work
- 0:52Speaker 2: of becoming whole. This is deeply Well. Everyone, welcome back
- 1:00Speaker 2: to the show. This is deeply Well. And I am
- 1:03Speaker 2: Debbie Brown. I hope you are doing well. We are
- 1:06Speaker 2: at this point halfway through the summer. I don't know
- 1:09Speaker 2: when you're catching this episode, but we are halfway through
- 1:13Speaker 2: the summer of twenty twenty six, and my lord, have
- 1:17Speaker 2: I had so many things going on, so many things
- 1:21Speaker 2: to talk about. It's been an interesting, interesting, interesting summer
- 1:26Speaker 2: I think for a lot of us. And that's just
- 1:28Speaker 2: me kind of like scanning the collective and seeing, you know,
- 1:32Speaker 2: sometimes what other people are saying on threads what people
- 1:34Speaker 2: are saying in my world.
- 1:36Speaker 1: But this summer is coming.
- 1:38Speaker 2: In hot in some big ways, And something I'm finding
- 1:41Speaker 2: for myself is I am deep in the processes of
- 1:45Speaker 2: what I describe in my book Living in Wisdom. We
- 1:48Speaker 2: are experiencing grief and joy happening at once, miraculous experiences
- 1:57Speaker 2: mixed in with some challenging is And we're in the
- 2:01Speaker 2: thick of mercury retrograde right now, and for the first time.
- 2:04Speaker 1: In a while, I am feeling all of it. Every day,
- 2:08Speaker 1: I am feeling that.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Backward motion. This has been a spicy mercury retrograde. We've
- 2:17Speaker 2: also had a lot of other movement in the sky
- 2:19Speaker 2: this summer, some big, big movements with Uranus, with Neptune,
- 2:24Speaker 2: and so I am like feeling the spice and the
- 2:30Speaker 2: potency of the astrology of the moment and really deep ways,
- 2:36Speaker 2: also really exciting ways. I feel like the world is
- 2:42Speaker 2: shaking up yet again and creating some new pathways that
- 2:50Speaker 2: just haven't existed.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Before in a lot of ways.
- 2:53Speaker 2: So we're going to see how all of that continues
- 2:56Speaker 2: to move. But I hope it's been a beautiful summer
- 2:59Speaker 2: so far. I hope it's been useful so far. I'm
- 3:02Speaker 2: trying to make all the energy that's present just as
- 3:05Speaker 2: absolutely useful as possible. A quote I love to live
- 3:10Speaker 2: by is I'm maximizing the energetic potential of the moment
- 3:15Speaker 2: for the highest good of all concerned. And so yeah,
- 3:19Speaker 2: energy is a moving in so many ways. It feels
- 3:25Speaker 2: like time is even sped up this summer. I'm so
- 3:27Speaker 2: curious if you're feeling that too. I've been really reminding
- 3:30Speaker 2: myself that even as I'm having like so many quick
- 3:36Speaker 2: fast changes, so many timeline jumps and ways that I'm
- 3:43Speaker 2: deeply integrating a lot of the foundations I've been preparing
- 3:47Speaker 2: in my life, it feels like it's flying by. Yet
- 3:53Speaker 2: I'm also trying to really deeply savor it, like sink
- 3:58Speaker 2: into it, try to breathe it while it's here, even
- 4:03Speaker 2: if the seconds feel quick. And that's been feeling really special.
- 4:08Speaker 2: I think back to other times in my life where
- 4:10Speaker 2: I might have been at one of these like big
- 4:13Speaker 2: grief joy junctures, or just really big shifts. I've been
- 4:18Speaker 2: thinking a lot about what new beginnings feel like. I'm
- 4:24Speaker 2: actually born on a new moon, and so new beginnings
- 4:28Speaker 2: are always a natural feeling for me astrologically for those
- 4:33Speaker 2: that you know follow their charts, which I'm realizing at
- 4:37Speaker 2: this point in my life has been a blessing in
- 4:41Speaker 2: ways for me because I am always naturally oriented.
- 4:47Speaker 1: To surrendering to.
- 4:49Speaker 2: The unknown and saying, okay, I feel something new is
- 4:53Speaker 2: emerging my answers yes period before I have to see
- 4:58Speaker 2: the whole picture. So I think this is one of
- 5:01Speaker 2: the first times in my life that I have been
- 5:03Speaker 2: able to move slow enough when in one of these
- 5:06Speaker 2: seasons to actually see and feel and understand that mechanism.
- 5:13Speaker 2: And so I've just been thinking a lot about how
- 5:16Speaker 2: that feels right now and then looking kind of, you know,
- 5:24Speaker 2: retrospectively at how that might have shown up in the
- 5:30Speaker 2: past when I wasn't able to be this slower this present.
- 5:34Speaker 2: So I'm kind of giving you like the inner workings
- 5:36Speaker 2: of my mind or you know, how I approach the
- 5:39Speaker 2: fine details of the work sometimes of the.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Crevices, or.
- 5:45Speaker 2: How I'm looking to when I have a new understanding
- 5:50Speaker 2: really draw it back to also heal my lens of
- 5:54Speaker 2: perception that I may have held in the past and
- 5:58Speaker 2: definitely in the future. But it's really interesting. So I
- 6:01Speaker 2: just want to encourage anybody if you're having that kind
- 6:04Speaker 2: of summer that I'm describing to where you're like, wow,
- 6:07Speaker 2: it's moving fast, but I feel like even with that speed,
- 6:12Speaker 2: so much is like transforming for my long term path.
- 6:18Speaker 2: If you're feeling that fast and slow, but you know
- 6:22Speaker 2: the profound nature of forward movement, take a second, and
- 6:27Speaker 2: I can lean into this more deeply at the end
- 6:29Speaker 2: of the episode, but take a second to really bear
- 6:32Speaker 2: witness to yourself right now, to really behold yourself and
- 6:38Speaker 2: look to understand in new ways whatever is present and
- 6:43Speaker 2: see how you can fine tune it, refine it, lock
- 6:46Speaker 2: into it in a way that is most advantageous and.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Healing for you.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Try to be really present for the conversations that are
- 6:57Speaker 2: happening in your life right now. Notice themes, notice patterns,
- 7:02Speaker 2: write things down, Notice you know, breakthrough thoughts, Notice the
- 7:10Speaker 2: quiet moments. Study the way you're traveling right now. You know,
- 7:15Speaker 2: something I think back to a lot when it comes
- 7:17Speaker 2: to travel is like I had bought this book. My god,
- 7:20Speaker 2: the title is out of my brain, but it's it's
- 7:26Speaker 2: one of Mark Twain's books.
- 7:27Speaker 1: And I know people that know this are going to
- 7:30Speaker 1: be like girl.
- 7:31Speaker 2: It's a classic, but I cannot, for the life of
- 7:34Speaker 2: me remember the name Ah. But it's like a collection
- 7:40Speaker 2: of notes that Mark Twain was taking as he traveled,
- 7:44Speaker 2: and if I remember when I read it correctly, some
- 7:47Speaker 2: are very you know, wrong and controversial for the time,
- 7:55Speaker 2: but in the greater view of looking at how one
- 7:59Speaker 2: moves through the world, especially at a time when not
- 8:03Speaker 2: much was known about other places, and the kind of
- 8:07Speaker 2: really small, fine observational details he was taking, and that
- 8:12Speaker 2: used to be a common practice, especially at like the
- 8:16Speaker 2: turn of last century when the world really started opening
- 8:19Speaker 2: up because there was you know, more steamship travel, there was,
- 8:26Speaker 2: you know, trains were moving faster and going farther places.
- 8:29Speaker 2: But definitely definitely our travel in the ocean changed dramatically
- 8:37Speaker 2: for people of all socioeconomic backgrounds, and so people were
- 8:42Speaker 2: seeing the world like for the first time in human
- 8:45Speaker 2: history at that amount.
- 8:48Speaker 1: So having like a travel.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Journal was a regular thing where you were just kind
- 8:52Speaker 2: of taking down notes and observing and then kind of
- 8:57Speaker 2: map making almost and coming back to tell the tale.
- 9:00Speaker 2: And I've just been thinking about that in my own experience.
- 9:03Speaker 2: I think as I've traveled the world, I've tried to
- 9:06Speaker 2: sometimes capture some of that so I can refer back
- 9:09Speaker 2: to it in captions of things I've posted, and you know,
- 9:13Speaker 2: my journals and diaries that I write in and notes
- 9:16Speaker 2: that I take in voice notes. But I really realized
- 9:19Speaker 2: I'm not doing it enough. Like when I think about
- 9:22Speaker 2: the things that really grab my attention while I'm moving
- 9:26Speaker 2: through the world, especially in new environments, you know, it's
- 9:30Speaker 2: enough to capture it with a couple words or just
- 9:34Speaker 2: a couple lines and sentences. And I think it's important
- 9:38Speaker 2: for us to do that and just have reference points
- 9:41Speaker 2: for our brains and our thoughts in the future to
- 9:45Speaker 2: connect with ourselves twenty thirty years from now.
- 9:48Speaker 1: Like who was I at that age?
- 9:50Speaker 2: Like I'm really loving that unfolding for myself right now.
- 9:55Speaker 2: So yeah, that came through hot and fast. So just
- 9:59Speaker 2: another little thing you might want to add into the summer.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Take some notes, study yourself.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Yeah, notice how you're working, Notice really.
- 10:12Speaker 2: All of the unexpected beauty that's happening in between, and
- 10:18Speaker 2: maybe even take note of some of the churning that
- 10:21Speaker 2: might be happening in between. I think this summer for
- 10:26Speaker 2: me twenty twenty six is going to go down in
- 10:31Speaker 2: history as one of the greatest, most meaningful, most loving,
- 10:39Speaker 2: most important, most evolutionary, nourishing. If I haven't said that, already,
- 10:53Speaker 2: fun and deep transformation, all summers of my life, all
- 11:04Speaker 2: with ease, all with grace for the highest good of
- 11:06Speaker 2: all concerned.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Okay, whew.
- 11:09Speaker 2: So since we last caught up, I've been on the
- 11:11Speaker 2: move a lot, y'all. I have so many stories I
- 11:14Speaker 2: want to share with you, so many breakthrough thoughts I'm having,
- 11:17Speaker 2: and new practices that I'm formulating. I had the opportunity
- 11:23Speaker 2: to spend a week this summer at can Lyon in France.
- 11:30Speaker 2: French Riviera France is one of my favorite countries of
- 11:35Speaker 2: all time, since I've been visiting, you know, over the
- 11:38Speaker 2: last maybe fifteen twenty years. It's always someplace that I
- 11:48Speaker 2: have a fast track to learn and grow and to
- 11:51Speaker 2: even feel like healing in my body. I feel my
- 11:56Speaker 2: best there, I feel my most inspired, and yeah.
- 12:00Speaker 1: I'm most grateful.
- 12:03Speaker 2: So I was at can Lyon with the Wellness Oasis and.
- 12:08Speaker 1: We tore it down.
- 12:11Speaker 2: In partnership with LinkedIn with SymbioticA, with an espresso and
- 12:17Speaker 2: surrounded by just absolutely incredible conversations about healing, about community,
- 12:22Speaker 2: about well being. I can't wait to expand on this
- 12:27Speaker 2: a little bit more in a future episode coming up,
- 12:30Speaker 2: but I had the chance to, and I'm still processing this,
- 12:36Speaker 2: so I will at some point share more deeply about it.
- 12:39Speaker 2: But I'm also keeping it safe with myself for now
- 12:42Speaker 2: and just really enjoying it. Doesn't need to be turned
- 12:45Speaker 2: into content immediately, you know. But I had a chance
- 12:51Speaker 2: to just sit with the Queen of my heart in conversation,
- 12:59Speaker 2: the inc parable Oprah Winfrey. It was one of the
- 13:06Speaker 2: most breathtaking days of my life in so many ways.
- 13:10Speaker 2: And it was also just my god like, so so nourishing,
- 13:15Speaker 2: like watching her generosity with me, with the audience, with
- 13:20Speaker 2: the city itself was oh profound, shifting, exceptional, extraordinary in
- 13:29Speaker 2: ways that like none of the photos or like videos
- 13:33Speaker 2: can really even capture or convey. So I'm still amassing
- 13:38Speaker 2: the language for it, so I'm holding it safe and
- 13:41Speaker 2: enjoying it for everything that she has always meant to
- 13:45Speaker 2: me as a woman, as a child, as a soul
- 13:50Speaker 2: on earth, and everything that I know she has meant
- 13:53Speaker 2: to just absolutely hundreds of millions of us, So huh, crazy, amazing,
- 14:00Speaker 2: so grateful. And then not long after I traveled there.
- 14:04Speaker 2: I mean I popped back home for a few days,
- 14:07Speaker 2: locked in with my sweet boy Quest, the most amazing
- 14:10Speaker 2: sun who's just having the summer of his dreams, which
- 14:15Speaker 2: is really a ninety kid summer because it's very pear down.
- 14:18Speaker 2: But he's eight and he is just like, oh my gosh, becoming.
- 14:25Speaker 2: He's just becoming right now, and it's so special to
- 14:28Speaker 2: witness and to be with and to make space for.
- 14:32Speaker 2: So we're having a blast. I have a new garden
- 14:36Speaker 2: in my backyard that got put in at the very
- 14:40Speaker 2: start of summer, and it's been so special, like tending
- 14:45Speaker 2: the soil back there and spending time with my son.
- 14:48Speaker 1: It gets really hot, really hot where I live.
- 14:51Speaker 2: So spending time with my son watering and tending to
- 14:54Speaker 2: it at dusk and in the early morning hours.
- 14:59Speaker 1: So God, I've been loving that. Oh my god.
- 15:02Speaker 2: That is you know, that is the hack and the
- 15:04Speaker 2: cheat code for old time. Like get your hands dirty
- 15:08Speaker 2: and not with like terrible things. Don't get your hands dirty,
- 15:12Speaker 2: you know, with crime, with wickedness, with like weird things.
- 15:16Speaker 2: Get your hands dirty with the earth, like put your
- 15:18Speaker 2: hands to the soil, help something grow, build something create,
- 15:26Speaker 2: It's just It's always been one of my favorite things,
- 15:30Speaker 2: which may be just like the ADHD in me, but.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Oh the way that.
- 15:36Speaker 2: Just helps me come back to myself, especially if there's
- 15:39Speaker 2: like challenge or just tough days, long days, hot days,
- 15:43Speaker 2: but just being able to be like really in the
- 15:46Speaker 2: present moment with creation with your own body.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Whew. So I did that for a few days.
- 15:54Speaker 2: And then my Lord back at it. Summer is like
- 15:58Speaker 2: high high travels summer and fall for me for work
- 16:01Speaker 2: especially and just you.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Know, learning and growing.
- 16:05Speaker 2: And so not long after that, I traveled to one
- 16:09Speaker 2: of the most sacred places for my heart where I'm
- 16:12Speaker 2: honored to serve on the board the Omega Institute for
- 16:15Speaker 2: Holistic Studies, which is in upstate New York, Rhinebeck, New York,
- 16:19Speaker 2: to be specific, and I led a retreat there which
- 16:24Speaker 2: is based on the framework of my book Living in Wisdom.
- 16:28Speaker 2: So it was my first time back on campus leading
- 16:31Speaker 2: a retreat. I want to say, I haven't done a
- 16:35Speaker 2: retreat there in the last two years. So it's so
- 16:40Speaker 2: special for me and potent and serendipitous to be able
- 16:44Speaker 2: to get back to campus.
- 16:47Speaker 1: I oh God, I love that space.
- 16:50Speaker 2: And I live in La so it's a travel baby,
- 16:53Speaker 2: like we are getting on that long playing ride and
- 16:56Speaker 2: then it's like this idealic, stunning dry that usually is
- 17:01Speaker 2: between two and three hours from there, but it's through
- 17:05Speaker 2: all the windy roads of getting to Upstate New York,
- 17:08Speaker 2: which if you haven't had a chance to go yet,
- 17:12Speaker 2: oh summer and fall, like just stunning, just so amazing,
- 17:17Speaker 2: being surrounded by trees and different bodies of water as
- 17:21Speaker 2: you just kind of wind your way up. You know,
- 17:24Speaker 2: some years when I travel by myself, like almost the
- 17:27Speaker 2: whole time, i just have the window cracked a bit,
- 17:30Speaker 2: and I'm leaning my head out the window, and I'm
- 17:32Speaker 2: like cleansing my spirit and cleansing my eyes and my
- 17:39Speaker 2: perception with all of that stunning nature on the way there,
- 17:45Speaker 2: and just letting my thoughts leave me as I get there.
- 17:49Speaker 2: So I'm kind of arriving as a hollow bone, as
- 17:51Speaker 2: an empty vessel, and you know, just being open to
- 17:56Speaker 2: what is meant to like move through me, what I'm
- 18:00Speaker 2: to learn, what I meant to in this moment, be
- 18:02Speaker 2: thinking about, dreaming about doing, And so it felt really amazing.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Over the years, I've done a few different kinds of
- 18:12Speaker 2: retreats there. I did the Women Who Heal Retreat for
- 18:15Speaker 2: a couple of years with my friend Queen Afua.
- 18:18Speaker 1: I also did.
- 18:20Speaker 2: An Energy Healing retreat there, Women in Leadership Women in
- 18:27Speaker 2: Power Retreat there, but this was the first retreat Living
- 18:33Speaker 2: in Wisdom Retreat. It was the first retreat rooted deeply.
- 18:38Speaker 1: In the development and the buildable.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Nature of creating personal practice and rooted in the tenets
- 18:48Speaker 2: of what my book is rooted in, so devotion, self mastery, grief, joy, integrity,
- 18:56Speaker 2: practice process. Something I say all the time and especially
- 19:00Speaker 2: if you follow my self Care simplified substack, it's all
- 19:05Speaker 2: theory until you put it into practice. That was one
- 19:07Speaker 2: of the biggest reasons I wrote my book. You can
- 19:10Speaker 2: read all the self help books, you can watch all
- 19:13Speaker 2: the master classes, you can listen to every episode of
- 19:17Speaker 2: this and others podcasts. But until you kind of hunker
- 19:22Speaker 2: down and take root in the practical nature of practicing
- 19:28Speaker 2: every single day who you are, who you're becoming, utilizing
- 19:35Speaker 2: your tools in real time, your life doesn't change. So
- 19:40Speaker 2: if that's you one, don't judge yourself, and don't get
- 19:43Speaker 2: mad at me because I'm saying it out loud right now,
- 19:45Speaker 2: but just notice that, you know, if you have been
- 19:48Speaker 2: really putting a lot into the work of yourself, but
- 19:51Speaker 2: you're not noticing a relief in your own inner suffering,
- 19:57Speaker 2: and you're not noticing dynamics begin to shift and change
- 20:03Speaker 2: and grow in a more positive and aligned direction in
- 20:07Speaker 2: your life and in the people that are coming into
- 20:12Speaker 2: your world, or the conversations you're having, or the opportunities
- 20:17Speaker 2: you're having. It's so important to notice that because something
- 20:20Speaker 2: does need to shift, something does need to change. You
- 20:23Speaker 2: do need to find ways to start slowly integrating all
- 20:30Speaker 2: of your life's experiences and the work that you've done
- 20:34Speaker 2: in a way that helps things change form for you
- 20:39Speaker 2: inenter and out, internally and externally. And so it is
- 20:43Speaker 2: my belief, with absolute personal conviction and certainty that self care,
- 20:54Speaker 2: mindfulness practices creating the scaffolding to support the work that
- 21:01Speaker 2: you've done, implementing certain processes and certain ways to regulate
- 21:10Speaker 2: yourself when triggered in those new processes are absolutely positively
- 21:17Speaker 2: essential and you can't really pass go until you lock
- 21:22Speaker 2: into that. So for me, that's exciting because that means potential.
- 21:27Speaker 2: That means that there is opportunity and that there's a
- 21:32Speaker 2: path forward. And so that was my intention with the
- 21:36Speaker 2: Living and Wisdom retreat. And I think there is something
- 21:39Speaker 2: that is absolutely so special about gathering in spaces where
- 21:44Speaker 2: people are very intentionally stepping away from the pace of
- 21:49Speaker 2: everyday life to connect with themselves, to go on and retreat.
- 21:54Speaker 2: It really means to you know, if you think of
- 21:57Speaker 2: it in times of war, it means you know, you're
- 21:59Speaker 2: kind of like pulling away way, but you're pulling away
- 22:02Speaker 2: to save yourself, or you're pulling away to save the
- 22:04Speaker 2: kingdom or to save the people out on the battlefield.
- 22:08Speaker 2: And I think when we think of retreating, you are
- 22:11Speaker 2: pulling away to save self, to remember self, to pour
- 22:15Speaker 2: into self. And it's incredibly important that the experience you
- 22:21Speaker 2: choose for yourself is really aligned with what it is
- 22:27Speaker 2: that you want and desire for you and your life.
- 22:31Speaker 1: I believe in.
- 22:32Speaker 2: Very traditional retreating, a very pure sense of spiritual retreating,
- 22:38Speaker 2: going inward and also developing ways and cultivating ways to
- 22:45Speaker 2: completely take off the roles.
- 22:48Speaker 1: That you play and open to some of that.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Creativity and messy middle even and divine unknown and awkwardness
- 23:02Speaker 2: of not instantly knowing how to fill that space you've created.
- 23:17Speaker 2: So every retreat I do over the many years that
- 23:22Speaker 2: I've had the pleasure of being able to facilitate this
- 23:26Speaker 2: kind of work and be in healing containers with others.
- 23:31Speaker 2: Reminds me that wisdom isn't something that we are just accumulating.
- 23:34Speaker 2: It's not knowledge, it's something that we practice. It's really
- 23:39Speaker 2: a lived and breathed.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Mastery. We cultivate it through reflection, through self.
- 23:48Speaker 2: Inquiry, through courage, through rest, through community, and through our
- 23:54Speaker 2: willingness to keep showing up for ourselves again and again,
- 24:00Speaker 2: especially when it's cringe most especially when you really don't
- 24:05Speaker 2: want to and it's annoying or hard or sometimes a
- 24:11Speaker 2: little too invocative. So I am carrying so much gratitude
- 24:17Speaker 2: from those experiences that I was able to share with
- 24:20Speaker 2: this absolutely incredible group of women that showed up, that
- 24:25Speaker 2: showed out, that did with the work, that connected deeply
- 24:30Speaker 2: with themselves and each other. So much gratitude from those
- 24:35Speaker 2: experiences that I just had into today's conversation. So wherever
- 24:42Speaker 2: you're joining me from today, whether you are on a
- 24:45Speaker 2: walk with me, whether you're driving with me, you're folding laundry,
- 24:49Speaker 2: or simply taking in a few moments for yourself, I'm
- 24:53Speaker 2: just really glad that you're here. I'm really glad that
- 24:57Speaker 2: you're connecting to the moment of your life, the work
- 25:00Speaker 2: of your life, and whatever that uniquely means for you.
- 25:03Speaker 2: However that's taking forms for you. So let's continue to
- 25:08Speaker 2: dive a little bit deeper into these into this beautiful
- 25:12Speaker 2: conversation and how can we utilize this kind of an
- 25:17Speaker 2: energy for becoming for being? Okay, one second, quick question,
- 25:24Speaker 2: So is that it for this of what's on the screen? Okay,
- 25:28Speaker 2: So then don't get into episode two, just like stay there, yeah, okay, perfect, okay, okay,
- 25:37Speaker 2: So all right, still rolling.
- 25:39Speaker 1: Okay.
- 25:41Speaker 2: So I shared with you you know, this retreat was
- 25:44Speaker 2: rooted in the processes and the practices of the books.
- 25:48Speaker 1: So if you read my book Living in Wisdom, you know.
- 25:51Speaker 2: That I have my pillars of practices, the things that
- 25:57Speaker 2: I think are just non the bociable and highly transformational
- 26:03Speaker 2: somatic processes for the journey. Also, I believe in spending
- 26:11Speaker 2: a lot of time with grief and then taking the
- 26:14Speaker 2: slow time to develop and build your tolerance and ability
- 26:20Speaker 2: and capacity to receive.
- 26:22Speaker 1: And hold joy and love.
- 26:26Speaker 2: So tools for healing grief and embracing that joy were
- 26:30Speaker 2: really integral parts of this retreat because they are the
- 26:33Speaker 2: integral parts of integral parts of the human experience and
- 26:40Speaker 2: what it is too be a soul on earth having
- 26:45Speaker 2: a human experience. So the practices that we rooted deeply in,
- 26:49Speaker 2: especially for this retreat we had five days, were daily
- 26:54Speaker 2: meditation and multiple times a day connecting to meditation, to
- 27:01Speaker 2: breath work, a lot of self inquiry, a lot of
- 27:04Speaker 2: deep journaling and creations of really powerful personal creeds and
- 27:11Speaker 2: affirmations to align with the highest vision of this highest.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Self, and really.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Personally designed strategies to release limiting beliefs in real time,
- 27:30Speaker 2: especially as we feel them creeping up and in and
- 27:34Speaker 2: you know, systems for cultivating our boundaries and continuing to
- 27:39Speaker 2: expand our awareness at every moment moving forward in the journey.
- 27:44Speaker 2: We use a lot of techniques to integrate, you know,
- 27:48Speaker 2: bringing in this wisdom that we've amassed, and also, depending
- 27:53Speaker 2: on what your background is and belief is, you know,
- 27:56Speaker 2: bringing in in some of the the power and depth
- 28:00Speaker 2: that you have already amassed in your personal spiritual systems
- 28:06Speaker 2: or family systems of belief, in your connection to God
- 28:12Speaker 2: and your connection to Source, to the Divine Creator, and
- 28:17Speaker 2: in your connection to also you know, what are truly
- 28:21Speaker 2: originally ancient practices and ancient wisdom, but however you receive
- 28:28Speaker 2: them in this modern world. Really being able to weave
- 28:31Speaker 2: them into modern challenges in real time, it's so important.
- 28:36Speaker 2: And I think having space to practice and to try
- 28:40Speaker 2: on these new ways of being, to try on our becoming,
- 28:45Speaker 2: especially in group with other people doing the same thing,
- 28:50Speaker 2: who all of us have something to offer in something
- 28:53Speaker 2: to receive from one another when we come in environments
- 28:56Speaker 2: like this, when we're really in true, safe and reciprocal community.
- 29:03Speaker 1: And then also.
- 29:06Speaker 2: Having the companionship of me in the room, of having
- 29:10Speaker 2: a teacher in the room, of someone to be in
- 29:14Speaker 2: the crevices of the refinement in real time with you.
- 29:18Speaker 2: I think that kind of spiritual, emotional, somatic companionship in
- 29:30Speaker 2: presence is incredibly important for being able to confidently connect
- 29:38Speaker 2: to the practices and then to have the connection and
- 29:43Speaker 2: space to then return to them when you're just on
- 29:46Speaker 2: your own and no one else is in the room.
- 29:48Speaker 2: And I just when I look at the work that
- 29:52Speaker 2: was accomplished in that room, I am just blown away.
- 29:55Speaker 2: I also had, oh my God, an incredible co teacher
- 29:58Speaker 2: that joined me. I have to say, oh, a huge
- 30:03Speaker 2: thank you to Paris Alexander, who has an incredible wellness
- 30:08Speaker 2: center in Brooklyn. She's also based in Harlem. We had
- 30:12Speaker 2: a little bit of, you know, a challenge in the
- 30:17Speaker 2: last moments, like the day before setting off on retreat,
- 30:22Speaker 2: my dear Sam Samantha who you've heard her name on
- 30:26Speaker 2: this show for many years many times, was going to
- 30:29Speaker 2: be leading yoga at the retreat and had a had
- 30:33Speaker 2: something come up, and it was this last minute thing.
- 30:36Speaker 2: We were like, oh my god, what are we going
- 30:39Speaker 2: to do? Where will we how will we have the
- 30:42Speaker 2: power of movement? And in the in the last final hour,
- 30:49Speaker 2: I mean, we were just perfectly aligned with Paris and
- 30:52Speaker 2: her work and her sacred yes of just heading straight
- 30:58Speaker 2: there with us and arriving on campus the night before
- 31:04Speaker 2: as I got there with another team member on my team, Victoria,
- 31:09Speaker 2: and I mean knocked it out the park. She brought
- 31:15Speaker 2: such powerful movement practice. She brought to life the postures
- 31:24Speaker 2: and positions that I've outlined in my book, and then
- 31:27Speaker 2: so much more from her long tenured wisdom and practice
- 31:32Speaker 2: and process, serving her community and just being a great, seasoned,
- 31:39Speaker 2: accomplished teacher, and she brought all of that into the room.
- 31:44Speaker 2: We were doing some amazing things from doing singing and
- 31:49Speaker 2: humming and toning with our movement, adding in some pilates
- 31:56Speaker 2: matt movement, and then different group practices and processes and
- 32:01Speaker 2: it was just so so so potent, so powerful. If
- 32:08Speaker 2: you're listening to this queen, thank you, thank you, thank
- 32:11Speaker 2: you truly from the depths of my heart for everything
- 32:15Speaker 2: that you brought into that space.
- 32:16Speaker 1: It was incredible.
- 32:18Speaker 2: So we had Parises and she'll be linked in the
- 32:21Speaker 2: episode notes below too, so check her out, especially if
- 32:24Speaker 2: you're on the East coast. But we started our days
- 32:28Speaker 2: with meditation and then moved into movement.
- 32:30Speaker 1: With Paris, and.
- 32:35Speaker 2: Yeah, that was powerful and potent. Paris Alexandra, thank you,
- 32:38Speaker 2: thank you, thank you. And then we worked with breathwork
- 32:42Speaker 2: and then a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot
- 32:44Speaker 2: a lot of self inquiry, time for us, time for
- 32:48Speaker 2: frault looking, time for group sharing and questions and living
- 32:55Speaker 2: the answers so very special, the reflections, the shared experiences
- 33:03Speaker 2: and the room, the partner activities, the facilitated dialogues, it
- 33:10Speaker 2: was just beautiful. Retreat and heal were the chapters that
- 33:13Speaker 2: we worked off of. If if you've worked with my
- 33:16Speaker 2: book and want to revisit that and kind of move
- 33:18Speaker 2: along with some of the processes we have.
- 33:21Speaker 1: I really invite you to do.
- 33:22Speaker 2: That wherever you are in the world. We worked with
- 33:26Speaker 2: grieving and releasing, with devotion, with boundaries, with joy and
- 33:32Speaker 2: authentic power, and with self love as divine love. So
- 33:37Speaker 2: those were the pages that we work through in the book.
- 33:41Speaker 2: I had a ball bringing this to life, so I'm
- 33:45Speaker 2: figuring it out.
- 33:46Speaker 1: You know.
- 33:46Speaker 2: Right now I'm thinking a lot about and I'll continue
- 33:49Speaker 2: to through the rest of the summer. If I want
- 33:51Speaker 2: to do this retreat again, where I'll do it, I
- 33:54Speaker 2: know certainly moving into twenty twenty seven, I plan to
- 33:58Speaker 2: do a lot based out of the LA area. So
- 34:01Speaker 2: pretty soon you'll see me announcing some special meditation and
- 34:07Speaker 2: teaching intensives that'll be about two and a half days
- 34:11Speaker 2: long that I'll be doing out here in the LA
- 34:14Speaker 2: and Malibu area. So if that feels like it's it
- 34:17Speaker 2: interests you, definitely sign up for the newsletter and sign
- 34:21Speaker 2: up for my substacks Self Care Simplified, and I'll have
- 34:25Speaker 2: more information coming out about that soon. So the thing
- 34:29Speaker 2: that I think really to close up this episode is
- 34:32Speaker 2: not lost on me is the power of practice. You know,
- 34:37Speaker 2: I've shared a quote from an old teacher many times
- 34:41Speaker 2: on this show and other places that really struck me,
- 34:44Speaker 2: which was they said motivation is the lowest form of inspiration,
- 34:51Speaker 2: and I think that is so true. Until you find
- 34:54Speaker 2: a way to inspire yourself from within, from your own story,
- 34:59Speaker 2: from your own reverence, you won't be able to really
- 35:10Speaker 2: get I think, the full power of the work that
- 35:13Speaker 2: you're doing. So you know, get motivation where you need it.
- 35:19Speaker 2: But the moment you can kind of let go of
- 35:23Speaker 2: being motivated by outside external sources and really light that
- 35:27Speaker 2: flame from the inside and activate your inner inspiration, that's
- 35:34Speaker 2: when your life really changes powerfully. That's when you get
- 35:38Speaker 2: to really understand what your authentic power is, how to
- 35:41Speaker 2: stand in it, how to be it, how to share it.
- 35:44Speaker 2: And then also I think my biggest takeaway from the
- 35:47Speaker 2: retreat was I am on fire.
- 35:50Speaker 1: For meditation again. I have been.
- 35:53Speaker 2: I have my personal practice every day that I do,
- 35:57Speaker 2: which in this season of my life is on my
- 36:03Speaker 2: best days, an hour, but I try to add minimum
- 36:07Speaker 2: right now in this kind of busier season, get thirty
- 36:10Speaker 2: to forty five minutes of meditation per day. But I'm
- 36:13Speaker 2: on fire for teaching it again. I am so I
- 36:17Speaker 2: have been a meditation teacher in terms of certification for
- 36:22Speaker 2: over ten years. I've been teaching it in different forms.
- 36:26Speaker 2: I've been practicing for about fifteen and I'm just on
- 36:31Speaker 2: fire for teaching it again. And so that really came
- 36:35Speaker 2: through this retreat like locking in having, you know, a
- 36:39Speaker 2: room full of women who are not meditators, the vast majority,
- 36:45Speaker 2: be able to meditate for five days in a row
- 36:47Speaker 2: and watch watch you know that opening happen, that glimpse
- 36:53Speaker 2: of the soul the and it didn't take long, you know,
- 36:57Speaker 2: it was after the first session. People were really able
- 37:01Speaker 2: to sync into their own personal practice and make it theirs.
- 37:05Speaker 2: And that just brought so much electricity and energy and
- 37:10Speaker 2: joy to.
- 37:10Speaker 1: My soul and my heart.
- 37:12Speaker 2: So if there are you know, any of the ladies
- 37:14Speaker 2: who are at the Living in Wisdom Retreat at the
- 37:16Speaker 2: Omega Institute that are listening, congratulations.
- 37:20Speaker 1: I am so proud of you.
- 37:21Speaker 2: I can't wait to see how all this work unfolds,
- 37:25Speaker 2: and any that are feeling deeply connected from listening to
- 37:28Speaker 2: this episode Lock into the practices of my book, Lock
- 37:32Speaker 2: into meditation, and I hope to see you at a
- 37:35Speaker 2: future retreat, but also look around and see, you know,
- 37:40Speaker 2: if there's anyone else that is leading retreats that you
- 37:44Speaker 2: feel really you know, connected to something sparks inside of you.
- 37:49Speaker 1: Go for it. Go for it, go for it, do it,
- 37:53Speaker 1: start it, begin it. All right.
- 37:55Speaker 2: That is this episode of the Deeply Well podcast. Your
- 37:58Speaker 2: soul work to integrate for this episode.
- 38:02Speaker 1: Is meditate. Take some time to meditate. And if meditation
- 38:07Speaker 1: has felt like something that has been a little out
- 38:10Speaker 1: of your reach, I just really encourage you.
- 38:13Speaker 2: To try again and to let yourself kind of be
- 38:18Speaker 2: in the discomforts of it so you can have the
- 38:20Speaker 2: breakthrough moment of it too. And if you need a
- 38:22Speaker 2: little help in that, I have meditations available on insight
- 38:26Speaker 2: timer guided ones that you can connect to first. All right,
- 38:31Speaker 2: thank you for listening as always, big love Now Mistay.
