- 0:03Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken. It's your dose of the
- 0:06Speaker 1: hottest influencer and pop culture news twice a week. I'm
- 0:10Speaker 1: Sophie Torber and coming up on today's show, Sarah's day's
- 0:13Speaker 1: quest to find the best seven seater luxury mum car.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Karina Irby's new PJ line is labelled tacky and expensive
- 0:21Speaker 1: and Tammy Hembrough's troublesome housemate. But first, Molly May has
- 0:25Speaker 1: proven yet again, Amy, why she is just so relatable. Yeah,
- 0:29Speaker 1: so over the weekend, Molly shared a YouTube where she
- 0:32Speaker 1: took her followers along to the BAFTA Awards. And to
- 0:35Speaker 1: set the scene, there were some pretty big names in attendance,
- 0:38Speaker 1: including Kylie Jenner and Timothee Chalamet. Now, on social media,
- 0:42Speaker 1: it looked like a very glamorous event. But Molly later
- 0:45Speaker 1: revealed in the comfort of her hotel room while sipping
- 0:48Speaker 1: a peppermint tea that she had to make an early
- 0:51Speaker 1: exit halfway through her meal. due to trapped wind. So
- 0:55Speaker 1: to translate that for everyone, Molly needed to fart. Let's
- 0:58Speaker 1: have a listen to what she said.
- 0:59Speaker 2: All right, team, we are back from the BAFTAs and
- 1:05Speaker 2: I'm just pouring peppermint tea because I have to be honest,
- 1:11Speaker 2: I got the world's worst.
- 1:15Speaker 1: This is TMI.
- 1:17Speaker 3: I got the world's worst trapped wind from sitting in
- 1:19Speaker 3: the same position for so many hours The ceremony, I've
- 1:24Speaker 3: got to be honest with you, it put the ong
- 1:27Speaker 3: in long. It was such a lovely evening though, but
- 1:29Speaker 3: also because I got such a sore stomach from sitting
- 1:34Speaker 3: in the same position. We had to leave like halfway
- 1:36Speaker 3: through the meal because I was in so much pain.
- 1:38Speaker 3: I was like, I literally cannot sit here. Like, does
- 1:40Speaker 3: anybody else get that? Like when they sit crunched up
- 1:43Speaker 3: for too long or like if you're driving in the
- 1:45Speaker 3: same position for too long, like I get really bad
- 1:47Speaker 3: trapped wind. I don't even, I'm not really even like
- 1:49Speaker 3: a drumpy gal. So I don't even know why the
- 1:50Speaker 3: wind's getting trapped because it's not like the wind would
- 1:52Speaker 3: usually exit.
- 1:54Speaker 1: I felt so seen when I watched this video because
- 1:57Speaker 1: you know when you think this is something that just
- 1:59Speaker 1: happens to you because no one really talks about it.
- 2:01Speaker 1: I've been to so many events where I'm like, I
- 2:04Speaker 1: need to go and just be by myself and let
- 2:06Speaker 1: it out. I think people underestimate how much trapped gas
- 2:10Speaker 1: can actually hurt. There's been people who have been rushed
- 2:12Speaker 1: to emergency rooms because they've assumed something more debilitating than that. Well,
- 2:17Speaker 1: she wasn't exaggerating as well because the BAFTA awards went
- 2:20Speaker 1: for 14 hours.
- 2:21Speaker 4: What?
- 2:22Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 2:22Speaker 6: And so she was having to sit probably.
- 2:25Speaker 1: In quite an uncomfortable dress. Yeah. She said she was
- 2:27Speaker 1: sitting in this really crouched over uncomfortable position. And in
- 2:31Speaker 1: the vlog, she had to get up at the crack
- 2:32Speaker 1: of dawn to drive, I think it was like three
- 2:34Speaker 1: hours to get her hair and makeup done. I know
- 2:36Speaker 1: when I've had big events on like weddings and And
- 2:39Speaker 1: you're getting ready all day and you tend not to
- 2:41Speaker 1: eat very much. And then your stomach just fills with air.
- 2:44Speaker 1: And I think that's the big issue. Or you think
- 2:47Speaker 1: I'll be healthy and have something like fruit. Surely that's
- 2:49Speaker 1: not going to have that much of an effect. It does.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Anything with fiber. Well, I don't think it also helped
- 2:53Speaker 1: that the entree at the BAFTAs consisted of caviar. Probably
- 2:56Speaker 1: not the best food if you're feeling gassy. I had
- 2:59Speaker 1: a laugh because I noticed in the background when Molly
- 3:01Speaker 1: was sipping on her peppermint tea that there was a
- 3:03Speaker 1: lot of McDonald's takeaways. And I was like, that's quite
- 3:05Speaker 1: a lot of food. And then I realized that she
- 3:07Speaker 1: was actually sharing the room with two other girls. I'm
- 3:09Speaker 1: like the poor thing. She just wants to go and
- 3:11Speaker 1: fart in peace. And she's got two other people there.
- 3:14Speaker 1: I love that this is the second episode that we're
- 3:16Speaker 1: talking about farting. We got some feedback from one of
- 3:18Speaker 1: our OG listeners that he loved our discussion on the
- 3:20Speaker 1: maths fart. And that he's never heard women say the
- 3:23Speaker 1: word fart so many times, which I mean, I had
- 3:25Speaker 1: to listen back. I was like, I suppose we did
- 3:27Speaker 1: say it quite a bit, but hopefully Rodney gets a
- 3:29Speaker 1: laugh out of this one. What is the ultimate mum car?
- 3:32Speaker 7: Well, hopefully we're about to find out because I'm in
- 3:34Speaker 7: the market for a new mum car with seven seats,
- 3:37Speaker 7: bougie boss mum vibes.
- 3:39Speaker 8: So let's get started with car number one.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Sarah's Day has assured her followers she's not out of
- 3:44Speaker 1: touch after launching a social media series reviewing luxury family cars.
- 3:49Speaker 1: The OG wellness warrior claims she's only sharing the series
- 3:53Speaker 1: because her followers asked for it and not for her
- 3:55Speaker 1: own personal gain.
- 3:57Speaker 6: Kate, can you tell us more?
- 3:59Speaker 1: Well, Sarah's day is in the market for a new
- 4:01Speaker 1: luxury seven seater family car. And I emphasize the word
- 4:04Speaker 1: luxury because as you're about to hear later, she used
- 4:07Speaker 1: that word a lot when discussing her desired car. Sarah
- 4:10Speaker 1: is now a mom of three, so she needs a
- 4:12Speaker 1: bigger car. And at the moment, she's driving her dream car,
- 4:15Speaker 1: which is a five seater Range Rover Sport. Before that,
- 4:18Speaker 1: she had a sponsorship deal with Mazda. Now, the fact
- 4:21Speaker 1: Sarah advertised that she's car shopping to her 1.2 million
- 4:24Speaker 1: Instagram followers has led many to speculate that she is
- 4:27Speaker 1: either shopping for a car sponsorship deal or already has one.
- 4:31Speaker 8: On the ropes.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Come on, Kate.
- 4:32Speaker 6: She's just showing us commoners how the rich do things.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Look, I don't think with a three-month-old baby she's doing
- 4:39Speaker 1: anything for free. I'm very sceptical that this isn't some
- 4:42Speaker 1: sort of paid partnership or sponsorship deal. She isn't really
- 4:45Speaker 1: known for disclosing ads very well. Well, a day before
- 4:48Speaker 1: releasing the first reel of the series, Sarah took to
- 4:50Speaker 1: her Instagram story to provide a disclaimer that she wasn't
- 4:53Speaker 1: out of touch. Alongside a selfie of her duck pouting
- 4:57Speaker 1: in the car she was trialing, she wrote, Remember, I'm
- 4:59Speaker 1: in the market to replace my current luxury car. I
- 5:03Speaker 1: just need more seats so the bar is already high
- 5:05Speaker 1: and I have high expectations when it comes to certain
- 5:08Speaker 1: features of a car. Keep in mind, if I do
- 5:11Speaker 1: decide to post the little review I filmed for the
- 5:13Speaker 1: first car I've trialed, It's categorized as a luxury seven seater.
- 5:17Speaker 1: So I've reviewed it as such. I comment mostly on
- 5:20Speaker 1: cosmetic elements of the car, but honestly, that's what I'm
- 5:22Speaker 1: interested in when reading and watching reviews of the luxury
- 5:25Speaker 1: seven seaters I'm looking at buying. Don't come at me
- 5:28Speaker 1: for being out of touch. I can assure you I'm not.
- 5:30Speaker 1: And I acknowledge it's an absolute privilege and blessing to
- 5:33Speaker 1: even be shopping this category. However, when a car is
- 5:36Speaker 1: classified in the luxury car category, naturally they're held at
- 5:40Speaker 1: a higher standard and the buyer will expect certain features.
- 5:43Speaker 1: I think we can all understand and appreciate this. Okay,
- 5:46Speaker 1: that is all. And she finished with a thumbs up emoji.
- 5:49Speaker 1: This is what convinces me that she has some sort
- 5:52Speaker 1: of paid partnership deal in the wings because why would
- 5:55Speaker 1: she want to ostracize her audience like this? She's already
- 5:58Speaker 1: copying Flack for being out of touch and promoting this
- 6:01Speaker 1: luxury car that most of the mums who follow her, well,
- 6:04Speaker 1: majority of the mums who follow her, would not be
- 6:06Speaker 1: able to afford. So what is the point of doing this?
- 6:08Speaker 1: When you see a disclaimer like this, you know that
- 6:11Speaker 1: the real is going to be absolutely obnoxious. Yeah, well,
- 6:15Speaker 1: Sarah followed up in another slide saying, don't worry, I'm
- 6:18Speaker 1: not out here trialing an Aston Martin, Lambo or Ferrari,
- 6:21Speaker 1: just everyday cars that have been classified by their brands
- 6:24Speaker 1: to be in the luxury category. Nothing crazy, I promise.
- 6:27Speaker 1: I love the way you keep saying luxury, Kate. Luxury.
- 6:30Speaker 1: She also added a poll with the voting options. Yes,
- 6:33Speaker 1: post your review. I'm interested in that. I don't care. Now,
- 6:37Speaker 1: the yes was a resounding winner with over 90% of
- 6:41Speaker 1: the votes. It's a bit weird for Sarah to reference
- 6:44Speaker 1: an Aston Martin as being sort of an out of
- 6:47Speaker 1: touch car because she's already purchased one of those for
- 6:49Speaker 1: her dad a couple of years ago, which obviously is
- 6:52Speaker 1: incredibly generous because she gave it as a gift to
- 6:54Speaker 1: her dad. But You do buy luxury cars. To be
- 6:57Speaker 1: fair to her, though, she didn't make a huge video
- 6:59Speaker 1: about gifting her dad a car, which a lot of
- 7:01Speaker 1: influencers would have done for content. It was mentioned in
- 7:04Speaker 1: a vlog, though. It was, but it.
- 7:05Speaker 6: Wasn't like clickbaity, like I bought my dad an Aston Martin.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Which I really don't like when people put that sort
- 7:11Speaker 1: of stuff on TikTok or YouTube. It's a bit vulgar.
- 7:14Speaker 1: It kind of seems a bit patronizing to people's parents. Well,
- 7:16Speaker 1: it's a hard one as well, because we've had this
- 7:18Speaker 1: discussion before where there are influencers or podcasters who are
- 7:21Speaker 1: clearly making a lot of money, but they feel they're
- 7:23Speaker 1: unable to disclose this to their audiences. Whereas you've got Sarah,
- 7:26Speaker 1: she is at least being honest about how much she's
- 7:29Speaker 1: earning and what she's buying.
- 7:30Speaker 6: That's the thing.
- 7:31Speaker 1: I don't think anyone is upset that she's successful. I
- 7:34Speaker 1: think it's more the tone. Yeah, it's very much the
- 7:37Speaker 1: tone is quite condescending. Now, while the Instagram poll was
- 7:41Speaker 1: a resounding yes, Sarah revealed her DMs told a different story.
- 7:45Speaker 1: She described them as being a mix of beautiful and fiery.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Here's more of what she said.
- 7:50Speaker 8: I don't understand. I think people forget. I'm just a
- 7:53Speaker 8: content creator, right? Like I think Instagram is just.
- 7:56Speaker 5: A place to be entertained and there is no ulterior
- 8:00Speaker 5: motive to me documenting this.
- 8:02Speaker 8: Like I wasn't even going to document it. Me finding
- 8:05Speaker 8: a new car to buy.
- 8:06Speaker 1: As for the decision to share the content, Sarah said
- 8:09Speaker 1: she was motivated by organic interest from her followers. She
- 8:12Speaker 1: also said that she was surprised how interested they were
- 8:15Speaker 1: when she briefly mentioned she needed to sell her car.
- 8:18Speaker 1: And she did preface that if it ever seemed like
- 8:20Speaker 1: she was sharing content outside of her normal realm, that
- 8:23Speaker 1: it was for one of these two reasons.
- 8:25Speaker 9: It's either I'm really passionate about it and I want
- 8:28Speaker 9: to mix it up because guys, I've been doing this
- 8:29Speaker 9: for 11 years.
- 8:30Speaker 8: Like I just film things that make me happy. I'm
- 8:33Speaker 8: a creative at the end of the day.
- 8:34Speaker 1: It doesn't surprise me she's getting that negativity in her
- 8:37Speaker 1: DMs because we are in a cost of living crisis.
- 8:39Speaker 1: A lot of influencers seem to keep overlooking that fact. Now,
- 8:43Speaker 1: Sarah was also adamant that the series was merely a fun,
- 8:46Speaker 1: creative project and not a way to financially gain. This
- 8:49Speaker 1: is what she said.
- 8:50Speaker 8: And also, you don't get paid for reels. Like people
- 8:53Speaker 8: were like, you're monetizing this.
- 8:54Speaker 4: I'm not.
- 8:54Speaker 5: You don't get paid for Instagram reels. Like this is
- 8:57Speaker 5: just for fun. The only thing I get paid for
- 8:59Speaker 5: for views is YouTube videos. You get like cents per view,
- 9:03Speaker 5: literal cents.
- 9:05Speaker 9: But like Instagram and TikTok in Australia, you don't get paid.
- 9:07Speaker 9: Like this is literally just fun and you guys ask
- 9:11Speaker 9: for it. So yeah, if I ever film something that's
- 9:13Speaker 9: like out of my norm, which like never box yourself in,
- 9:16Speaker 9: you can.
- 9:17Speaker 8: Film whatever you want to do. It's either like people
- 9:19Speaker 8: have asked or I'm just like, this is a fun idea.
- 9:22Speaker 1: I want to debunk what Sarah said there because I
- 9:24Speaker 1: think it's a little bit misleading. She is correct in
- 9:27Speaker 1: saying that Instagram and TikTok don't have a creative fund
- 9:31Speaker 1: or AdSense like other platforms or in other countries. However,
- 9:34Speaker 1: she still earns money from her reels on TikTok because
- 9:37Speaker 1: she monetizes a lot of her reels and also Instagram
- 9:40Speaker 1: stories by featuring sponsored products. I would be confident in
- 9:44Speaker 1: saying that Instagram would be the social media platform where
- 9:47Speaker 1: she makes the most money from. Yeah, she wouldn't be
- 9:49Speaker 1: making heaps on her YouTube AdSense. I mean, I think
- 9:52Speaker 1: she keeps around YouTube because that's where she started and
- 9:55Speaker 1: that's where she can tell longer form stories and really
- 9:58Speaker 1: connect with her audience. But I think the moneymaker here
- 10:01Speaker 1: is definitely Instagram. And she's not just creating content out
- 10:04Speaker 1: of the goodness of her heart to entertain the masses.
- 10:07Speaker 1: She gets paid a lot for doing it, whether that's
- 10:09Speaker 1: through paid partnerships or promoting her own products like a
- 10:12Speaker 1: cookbook that she sells. I found it interesting just how
- 10:15Speaker 1: many disclaimers and Instagram videos Sarah put out before just
- 10:19Speaker 1: dropping what was supposed to be an apparent fun video
- 10:22Speaker 1: and piece of content because she went on to then
- 10:24Speaker 1: accuse her followers of having double standards.
- 10:28Speaker 9: If I was Kurt or just like a man who
- 10:30Speaker 9: ran his own company, worked really hard, had their own
- 10:32Speaker 9: business for over 10 years, no one would bat an
- 10:35Speaker 9: eyelid if I was just filming random reels of me
- 10:39Speaker 9: replacing a luxury car, like shopping around and like comparing them.
- 10:44Speaker 8: No one would would say anything. It'd be like, oh,
- 10:46Speaker 8: that's interesting. I wonder what he's going to buy. But
- 10:48Speaker 8: as soon as you're a female, it's like a completely
- 10:50Speaker 8: different story.
- 10:51Speaker 1: Look, she does have a point. But I do think
- 10:55Speaker 1: in this instance, it's a little bit of a lazy
- 10:57Speaker 1: way to deflect the negative commentary that she was getting.
- 11:00Speaker 1: I don't like when people just pull the gender card
- 11:03Speaker 1: so that they can just do whatever they want. Because
- 11:05Speaker 1: at the end of the day, in this instance, I
- 11:07Speaker 1: don't think people are being sexist. I think people have
- 11:09Speaker 1: an issue because she's being tone deaf. Karina Irby, who
- 11:12Speaker 1: we're discussing later in the episode, shared a similar sentiment
- 11:15Speaker 1: this week. She feels like she cops unnecessary negativity in
- 11:18Speaker 1: the press for sharing about her luxury items and said,
- 11:22Speaker 1: If she was a man and a successful male business owner,
- 11:24Speaker 1: it wouldn't be the case. I get where they're coming from,
- 11:26Speaker 1: but I definitely don't think that this is what's at
- 11:29Speaker 1: play in this particular situation.
- 11:31Speaker 6: And Kate, you.
- 11:32Speaker 1: First saw this video and you told Soph and I
- 11:34Speaker 1: about it. And I thought, oh, surely it's not that obnoxious.
- 11:37Speaker 1: But my jaw was ajar while watching this reel. Well,
- 11:40Speaker 1: you're talking about this review that we're going to obviously
- 11:43Speaker 1: go into because Sarah uploaded it a couple of hours
- 11:46Speaker 1: after sharing the disclaimers on her Instagram story. Now car
- 11:50Speaker 1: number one of this review series ended up being a
- 11:52Speaker 1: Lexus GX550. I wasn't expecting much from the reel because
- 11:57Speaker 1: Sarah said the filming was really rough because she was
- 11:59Speaker 1: holding her baby Harlow and she also said that she
- 12:02Speaker 1: wanted to reshoot it but didn't have time. I was
- 12:05Speaker 1: then very surprised when the reel ended up being professionally
- 12:08Speaker 1: shot by Sarah's husband, Kurt, who is a videographer.
- 12:11Speaker 6: Was it professionally shot?
- 12:12Speaker 1: I thought it was on the phone, but it was
- 12:13Speaker 1: edited in a really nice way. Well, I think it
- 12:15Speaker 1: was a pretty good reel. It wasn't just something where
- 12:17Speaker 1: you pop the camera up and film. As soon as
- 12:19Speaker 1: I saw the car shots, it was like, boom, boom.
- 12:22Speaker 1: I was like, that's Kurt. Throughout her career, she and
- 12:25Speaker 1: Kurt have always shared top quality content. Like they never
- 12:27Speaker 1: put out anything that looks crap.
- 12:28Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 12:29Speaker 1: And Kurt also featured in this video, which is quite
- 12:32Speaker 1: unusual these days for Sarah's content. I mean, Back in
- 12:35Speaker 1: the day, he was always there, but he's very busy
- 12:37Speaker 1: with his business and everyone is always like, oh, we
- 12:39Speaker 1: want more Kurt, but he's just never in the videos anymore.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Which again, makes me think that there's more to just
- 12:44Speaker 1: this simple review video.
- 12:45Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 12:46Speaker 1: It was very clear from the get-go that Kurt had
- 12:49Speaker 1: a vested interest in this video. The fact that he
- 12:51Speaker 1: was filming it and the fact that he was in
- 12:53Speaker 1: it was a big giveaway, but then he started spruiking
- 12:56Speaker 1: all the features of the card. It almost felt like
- 12:58Speaker 1: he was working for the brand and that's probably because
- 13:01Speaker 1: He previously has worked for Lexus. So in January last year,
- 13:05Speaker 1: he shot a campaign for the car brand. He shared
- 13:07Speaker 1: photos to his Instagram alongside the caption, a few of
- 13:10Speaker 1: my favorite car shots from a recent campaign with Lexus Australia.
- 13:14Speaker 1: And Lexus Australia's Instagram account responded with a love heart
- 13:17Speaker 1: under Kurt's post. Also back in November, 2023, Kurt was
- 13:21Speaker 1: hired by Lexus to shoot content for their function at
- 13:24Speaker 1: the Melbourne Cup. So here you clearly is in bed
- 13:27Speaker 1: with this brand. So it must have been easy for
- 13:29Speaker 1: him to organize a car for Sarah. Yes, it's very interesting. Now,
- 13:32Speaker 1: while Kurt tried very hard to sell this car, Sarah,
- 13:36Speaker 1: on the other hand, seemed more focused at being ultra
- 13:38Speaker 1: picky about the car's luxury features. And it was clear
- 13:42Speaker 1: she would have preferred trialing the next model up. Here's
- 13:45Speaker 1: what she said.
- 13:46Speaker 7: I should preface, this is the luxury version. And if
- 13:49Speaker 7: I was to get it, I would get the sport luxury,
- 13:51Speaker 7: which is one tier up. It would have different rims.
- 13:53Speaker 7: But I'd probably get new rims anyway because I want big, bad,
- 13:57Speaker 7: mongrel rims.
- 13:58Speaker 4: Woof.
- 13:59Speaker 1: The car's sunroof also didn't appear to be up to
- 14:02Speaker 1: Sarah's standards.
- 14:04Speaker 8: My current car has a full moonroof. Like, all the
- 14:06Speaker 8: way back here is a sunroof.
- 14:07Speaker 4: Let's open it.
- 14:08Speaker 8: I wonder if there's a version where, like, you get
- 14:10Speaker 8: a bigger one.
- 14:11Speaker 1: You've always got this up.
- 14:12Speaker 2: The sun?
- 14:12Speaker 4: Can we close? Like, is there no shade? No, you don't.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Oh, it's manual.
- 14:19Speaker 7: I sound like such a princess, but my Range Rover,
- 14:21Speaker 7: you just boop, and it goes boop.
- 14:23Speaker 4: Okay.
- 14:24Speaker 1: Don't you hate it when you have to manually pull
- 14:26Speaker 1: the sunroof shade over? I mean, we've all been there
- 14:29Speaker 1: before and it's also not big enough. Oh, absolutely slumming
- 14:33Speaker 1: it with that sunroof. I mean, normally I just get
- 14:35Speaker 1: my butler to open it for me. Yeah. Well, the
- 14:37Speaker 1: automatic boot also wasn't high tech enough for Sarah.
- 14:41Speaker 5: I'm pretty sure in the sports luxury, when you do this,
- 14:43Speaker 5: a handful of baby, a handful of groceries, when you
- 14:45Speaker 5: do that and it opens, oof.
- 14:47Speaker 7: As a mum, little things like that make me buy
- 14:49Speaker 7: a car.
- 14:50Speaker 8: I just want to whoop and I want to.
- 14:51Speaker 1: Beep, zhoop, manual. Look, I'm not a mum yet, but
- 14:56Speaker 1: that is actually a really good feature for mums. I
- 14:59Speaker 1: also want to say that it would have looked fake
- 15:01Speaker 1: if she was gushing too much about the car because
- 15:04Speaker 1: she's prefaced that this is going to be a review.
- 15:07Speaker 1: So I mean, She does have to point out some
- 15:08Speaker 1: of the features that she does or doesn't like. Yeah,
- 15:11Speaker 1: but not in such a way that it's like, oh,
- 15:14Speaker 1: I'm just so above it that I need my car
- 15:15Speaker 1: to do all of these things. Again. It rubbed me
- 15:17Speaker 1: up the wrong way. It came down to tone. I
- 15:20Speaker 1: couldn't help but laugh when Sarah said this after making
- 15:22Speaker 1: the back seats lay flat down with a press of
- 15:24Speaker 1: a button.
- 15:25Speaker 5: I feel like most of the Yummy Mummy cars have
- 15:27Speaker 5: this at this point.
- 15:28Speaker 8: I'm still impressed.
- 15:29Speaker 1: I mean, my car does not do this. I've got
- 15:31Speaker 1: a Kia Sportage. I call it my soccer mum car.
- 15:33Speaker 1: But I actually have to manually put the seats down.
- 15:36Speaker 1: It does seem like Sarah has a problem with Kias
- 15:38Speaker 1: because she went on a rant before posting all of
- 15:40Speaker 1: these reviews. How she never would want a Kia Carnival,
- 15:43Speaker 1: which is known to be a really popular mum's car.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Does that mean you're not a yummy mummy, Kate? Because
- 15:47Speaker 1: I feel like there was also this emphasis on... you're
- 15:50Speaker 1: only a hot mom or a yummy mommy if you're
- 15:52Speaker 1: driving around in a luxury car. You're some ugly daggy
- 15:55Speaker 1: mom if you don't have a fucking Lexus or a
- 15:58Speaker 1: Range Rover. I did see this mom right underneath in
- 16:00Speaker 1: the comment section. Oh, I'm pretty happy with my RAV4
- 16:02Speaker 1: with my four kids. And then Sarah wrote a comment
- 16:04Speaker 1: back like, oh yeah, they're great cars. My mom has one.
- 16:07Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 16:08Speaker 1: I mean, I don't particularly like the term yummy mommy either.
- 16:11Speaker 1: It reminds me of that TV show that was on
- 16:12Speaker 1: a couple of years ago, Channel 7, when it was
- 16:14Speaker 1: all those rich moms that got like Mercedes G-Wags. Apparently
- 16:18Speaker 1: one of the yummy mummies, the one from Adelaide, she
- 16:20Speaker 1: drives around with the number plate yummy. I went to
- 16:24Speaker 1: her house. So when I was working at the 36ers,
- 16:26Speaker 1: we got her on board to be an ambassador and
- 16:28Speaker 1: we had her sit in court side and we filmed
- 16:30Speaker 1: something at her house. And I saw, remember the room
- 16:32Speaker 1: that was like, what was the brand that she really liked?
- 16:34Speaker 1: Was it Versace? Yeah, it was a Versace room. And
- 16:37Speaker 1: She was lovely. The whole family was so nice. Well,
- 16:38Speaker 1: because that show went off overseas. Yeah, she's got a
- 16:42Speaker 1: massive market in the US. So all of the yummy
- 16:44Speaker 1: mummies ended up– I think she's got like– is it
- 16:45Speaker 1: a million followers or something ridiculous? I also feel like
- 16:48Speaker 1: the term yummy mummy, like I agree, it feels very 2015,
- 16:50Speaker 1: like as if you're only value in being a mum,
- 16:53Speaker 1: as if you're.
- 16:54Speaker 6: An attractive, fit– And add in the term boss babe.
- 16:58Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 16:58Speaker 1: The whole thing felt so 10 years ago, like my
- 17:02Speaker 1: boss babe car. Also the word bougie. I know we
- 17:04Speaker 1: said it on the podcast a bit, but I actually
- 17:06Speaker 1: hate that word. Yeah. I mean, I'd much prefer to
- 17:09Speaker 1: be called a milf. I'm just joking. Now at the
- 17:12Speaker 1: end of the video, Sarah rated the car eight stars
- 17:15Speaker 1: out of 10 and asked her followers to comment below
- 17:18Speaker 1: what car she should try next.
- 17:20Speaker 6: Now at the time of the carnival.
- 17:21Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:21Speaker 1: I would love that. Oh my God. Imagine how brutal
- 17:24Speaker 1: it would be. I find it offensive because it's funny
- 17:27Speaker 1: when I was looking for a new car earlier this year,
- 17:30Speaker 1: Dale was like, you should check out the Kia carnival.
- 17:32Speaker 1: I want you to be a soccer mom.
- 17:34Speaker 6: And I was like, Kids, do you think we're having like,
- 17:36Speaker 6: I don't think we need seven seats.
- 17:37Speaker 1: They're like a bus.
- 17:38Speaker 7: Yeah, they are.
- 17:39Speaker 6: And we actually.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Hired one for my wedding when we wanted to drive. Anyway,
- 17:43Speaker 1: it's actually a really good car. So I told Dale
- 17:46Speaker 1: on the weekend, I was like, Sarah's day has been
- 17:48Speaker 1: bagging out Kia Carnivals. And he's like, what the fuck? Well,
- 17:52Speaker 1: at the time of recording, The Real has notched up
- 17:55Speaker 1: 1.2 million views on Instagram and 197,000 on TikTok. clearly
- 18:00Speaker 1: creating hype about the reel before uploading it worked. And
- 18:02Speaker 1: it does seem like Sarah purposely pumped it up for engagement.
- 18:07Speaker 1: If Lexus are a paid partner, then they're probably pretty
- 18:09Speaker 1: happy with these views.
- 18:11Speaker 6: But are people going to buy a Lexus from seeing
- 18:13Speaker 6: that video?
- 18:13Speaker 1: Well, also does her audience have the funds to buy
- 18:17Speaker 1: a seven seater luxury Lexus as well? Well, it might've
- 18:20Speaker 1: been a branding exercise. But also was it good publicity
- 18:23Speaker 1: for them? Because I feel like there are a lot
- 18:24Speaker 1: of people deterred and put off and saying she was
- 18:27Speaker 1: out of touch because of it. I actually can't believe
- 18:29Speaker 1: how many people were genuinely commenting on what car they
- 18:32Speaker 1: wanted her to try next. And The majority of people
- 18:35Speaker 1: were saying how much they enjoyed the series. I wonder
- 18:38Speaker 1: if Sarah was moderating the comments though, because when I
- 18:41Speaker 1: was looking through the TikTok ones, there was a comment
- 18:43Speaker 1: that says, Something like, oh, the comments aren't it and
- 18:46Speaker 1: people had tall poppy syndrome, but there were no negative
- 18:49Speaker 1: comments on there. So it seems like they had been deleted. Well,
- 18:52Speaker 1: if you are trying to impress a brand like Lexus,
- 18:54Speaker 1: you probably do want to filter out some of those
- 18:56Speaker 1: negative comments where your audience is basically saying that they
- 18:59Speaker 1: don't relate to this brand and it's out of touch. Well,
- 19:01Speaker 1: a Reddit thread dedicated to Sarah's luxury car series saga
- 19:05Speaker 1: was a different story though. One anonymous poster wrote, this
- 19:08Speaker 1: fucking pissed me off. Who even posts this shit? Just
- 19:11Speaker 1: buy a new car and get on with it. I
- 19:13Speaker 1: hate people who flaunt their shit like this. And she
- 19:15Speaker 1: knows damn well some of her mom followers stress about
- 19:18Speaker 1: even putting food on the table. Another said, laughing my
- 19:21Speaker 1: ass off. The fact she doesn't think she is out
- 19:23Speaker 1: of touch is actually hilarious. She has multiple homes, an
- 19:26Speaker 1: expensive boat, loads of designer clothes and accessories, constantly does
- 19:30Speaker 1: unnecessary and expensive skin treatments. The list goes on. She's
- 19:33Speaker 1: actually delusional. Holy smokes. This post is making my blood boil.
- 19:37Speaker 1: The tone of this is actually so condescending and rude.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Another user wrote, girl, my father and half of my
- 19:43Speaker 1: colleagues just lost their jobs because of the United States government.
- 19:46Speaker 1: I don't want to hear shit about you buying a
- 19:48Speaker 1: new luxury car while you're complaining. renovating a vacation home. Now,
- 19:52Speaker 1: I do want to preface that Sarah is well within
- 19:55Speaker 1: her rights to buy whatever luxury car she wants. And
- 19:58Speaker 1: if she does want to document it to her followers,
- 20:00Speaker 1: that's fine. The thing that I have an issue with
- 20:02Speaker 1: is firstly, the way she did it was pretty tone deaf.
- 20:05Speaker 1: But secondly, It's to do with the ad disclosure. So
- 20:09Speaker 1: there was a lot of confusion in our Facebook community
- 20:11Speaker 1: about what the actual issue was with this series. And
- 20:13Speaker 1: that is it for me, because if the series is sponsored,
- 20:17Speaker 1: Sarah really needs to disclose it. Because in 2021, the
- 20:20Speaker 1: AANA updated their code of ethics to ensure influencers met
- 20:24Speaker 1: the same advertising standards as traditional forms of advertising. So
- 20:28Speaker 1: the new code essentially requires influencers to clearly disclose a partnership,
- 20:32Speaker 1: which includes paid and contra. And this means influencers like
- 20:37Speaker 1: Sarah must make it clear, obvious and be upfront with
- 20:39Speaker 1: their audience, the relationship they have with the brand. So
- 20:42Speaker 1: they either have to use the inbuilt paid partnership tools
- 20:45Speaker 1: or use hashtag ad or hashtag sponsored. Sarah has stated
- 20:49Speaker 1: several times that this is not an ad. So we
- 20:51Speaker 1: will have to take her on her word, but it
- 20:54Speaker 1: will be interesting to see if this series keeps going
- 20:57Speaker 1: and what car she ultimately decides on. Maybe in her head,
- 21:00Speaker 1: if she does have a deal with Lexus, she doesn't
- 21:02Speaker 1: think that she has to disclose it until she gets
- 21:05Speaker 1: that car. Because what it seems like if she has
- 21:08Speaker 1: organized a deal through a car company, what would probably
- 21:10Speaker 1: happen is that car company would loan her a car
- 21:13Speaker 1: for a number of years, which she could then upgrade.
- 21:15Speaker 1: It's not like they're giving her a completely free car.
- 21:18Speaker 1: I wonder if the deal could potentially be with a
- 21:21Speaker 1: luxury dealership. So instead of the deal being just with Lexus,
- 21:26Speaker 1: it's with a dealership who is going to give her
- 21:28Speaker 1: a range of different cars to try. And then Maybe
- 21:30Speaker 1: she thinks that the car she then gets, that's when
- 21:33Speaker 1: the sponsorship starts, as you said, Amy. Well, I'm a
- 21:35Speaker 1: bit suspicious because we have seen something similar play out
- 21:39Speaker 1: with Hyro, which is the electrolyte company that she's now
- 21:41Speaker 1: part owner of. So the seven months before disclosing that
- 21:44Speaker 1: she was a partner of that company, she was promoting
- 21:48Speaker 1: this product all over social media, saying that it was
- 21:51Speaker 1: this product that she organically liked when it really wasn't.
- 21:54Speaker 1: It was something that she is financially benefiting off. I
- 21:58Speaker 1: want to talk about the cost of this car. I
- 22:00Speaker 1: was really curious when I saw her upload the reel
- 22:03Speaker 1: because I would have no idea what something like this
- 22:05Speaker 1: would set you back. I'm not really into cars. I
- 22:07Speaker 1: had a look and the Lexus GX550 is $ 130, 000 while
- 22:13Speaker 1: the sports model that Sarah wanted is $ 145, 000. For most
- 22:18Speaker 1: of Sarah's followers who are everyday Australians who are probably
- 22:21Speaker 1: struggling at the moment to get groceries on their table,
- 22:24Speaker 1: I don't think that this car is it's in their
- 22:27Speaker 1: realm of possibility. I don't think that there's mums looking
- 22:29Speaker 1: at this thinking that this is possible for them at all.
- 22:32Speaker 1: And I mean, I know we talk a lot about
- 22:34Speaker 1: how influencers also provide a bit of an escapism for
- 22:37Speaker 1: people and it's fun to see influencers trialling things that
- 22:41Speaker 1: you might not be able to afford. So it did
- 22:43Speaker 1: seem like her audience did get some enjoyment out of it.
- 22:46Speaker 1: But I think there would be a lot of mums
- 22:47Speaker 1: feeling ostracised and alienated by it, particularly Kia drivers. I
- 22:51Speaker 1: think she sort of touted this as come and find
- 22:54Speaker 1: a mum car with me. See, I actually don't think
- 22:56Speaker 1: it was like that at all. From the get-go, she
- 22:58Speaker 1: used the word luxury about 20 times and said, I
- 23:01Speaker 1: have high expectations because I've driven this luxury car before.
- 23:04Speaker 1: There was no ounce of relatability in that disclaimer at all.
- 23:08Speaker 8: I'm so sorry, but I'm about to do a full rant.
- 23:11Speaker 1: I'm smiling, but I'm so pissed. Bikini mogul Karina Irby
- 23:16Speaker 1: is facing backlash after releasing a new skin-friendly pajama line,
- 23:21Speaker 1: which her followers have labeled tacky and too expensive. Social
- 23:25Speaker 1: media users erupted after discovering they'd have to shell out
- 23:28Speaker 1: $ 218 to get their hands on a matching PJ set. Now, Sophie,
- 23:34Speaker 1: this pajama line is an extension of Karina's bikini brand. Yeah,
- 23:38Speaker 1: that's right, because Karina already owns a successful swimwear brand
- 23:42Speaker 1: called Moana Bikini, as well as a clothing brand called
- 23:45Speaker 1: The Smile Club. Karina's name will probably sound familiar to
- 23:48Speaker 1: listeners because She has over a million followers and she's
- 23:51Speaker 1: also been featured on our show a handful of times. Yeah,
- 23:54Speaker 1: who could forget that time that she tried to sue
- 23:57Speaker 1: Influencer Updates AU? Yeah, because Karina brands herself as a
- 24:01Speaker 1: body positivity influencer and she was accused of photoshopping her
- 24:05Speaker 1: body by an American super sleuth who called her a hypocrite.
- 24:09Speaker 1: She also went viral for a post that was deemed
- 24:12Speaker 1: pretty out of touch because She said she accidentally bought
- 24:16Speaker 1: an investment property, which really went down like a lead
- 24:19Speaker 1: balloon in this current climate. Wasn't it beachfront as well?
- 24:22Speaker 1: I believe so. Now on Valentine's Day, Karina announced that
- 24:25Speaker 1: her new pajama line was live. And I mean, I
- 24:28Speaker 1: just think that we needed another influencer bringing out a
- 24:31Speaker 1: pajama line. The world was calling out for it. Yeah,
- 24:34Speaker 1: pajamas are like the new activewear to influencers. Yeah, well,
- 24:37Speaker 1: she made the announcement on her Instagram by sharing a
- 24:40Speaker 1: photo of herself and one of her colleagues modeling the
- 24:43Speaker 1: pajamas and wrote, oh my God, someone slap me, please.
- 24:47Speaker 1: This is a dream. My skin-friendly PJ line has just
- 24:50Speaker 1: gone live and you're absolutely loving it with a ton
- 24:53Speaker 1: of crying faces. Thank you. Honestly, wow. Thank you. Because
- 24:57Speaker 1: this is a new adventure. The stock is limited. First in,
- 25:00Speaker 1: best dress, literally. Happy Valentine's Day, everyone. I need to know,
- 25:05Speaker 1: what is a skin-friendly pajama like? Well, this has been
- 25:08Speaker 1: a pretty contentious issue because Karina didn't actually explain on
- 25:12Speaker 1: her website what made the PJs skin-friendly. It was only
- 25:16Speaker 1: until she got some criticism that she went into detail
- 25:19Speaker 1: in the comment section saying that her PJs are designed
- 25:22Speaker 1: with a unique fabric blend that won't absorb your skin's
- 25:26Speaker 1: oils or prescription moisturizers. So she said, if you're an
- 25:30Speaker 1: itchy girly like me, you know the struggle of clothing
- 25:33Speaker 1: stripping your skin of any cream, leaving you dry and uncomfortable.
- 25:37Speaker 1: You would have thought that if that is a big
- 25:39Speaker 1: selling point of the product, that it should have been
- 25:41Speaker 1: explained when the product was launched and also on the website,
- 25:44Speaker 1: because I have never, ever heard of that before. No,
- 25:47Speaker 1: neither have I. Now, it was awkward because this announcement
- 25:50Speaker 1: post was acting as though everyone was loving the pajamas
- 25:53Speaker 1: and everyone couldn't get enough of them. But it seemed
- 25:55Speaker 1: like she hadn't read the room because Following the post,
- 25:59Speaker 1: hundreds of her followers took to the comment section to
- 26:02Speaker 1: question the eye-watering price tag. So one follower wrote, they
- 26:07Speaker 1: look tacky. I wouldn't even buy these if they were
- 26:09Speaker 1: at Kmart. Whilst another said, girl, I was so excited
- 26:12Speaker 1: until I saw a pair of pants was $ 80 and
- 26:15Speaker 1: now I'm heartbroken. Another said more expensive than Peter Alexander
- 26:20Speaker 1: full price and can easily get theirs on sale. You
- 26:23Speaker 1: mentioned that she has a bikini line. It almost feels
- 26:25Speaker 1: like she used the bikini strategy of selling the tops
- 26:28Speaker 1: and bottoms separately. Like I know that's something that has
- 26:31Speaker 1: been happening in the pajama space for a while. Well,
- 26:34Speaker 1: it's clever. Well, it's not clever if you're outpricing yourself.
- 26:37Speaker 1: So I would never pay $ 100 for a pair of
- 26:40Speaker 1: pajama bottoms, maybe if they were the Skims one. Now,
- 26:43Speaker 1: these pajama sets do come with a pretty hefty price tag.
- 26:48Speaker 1: So they range from $ 158 to $ 218. So very similar
- 26:53Speaker 1: to the Skims pajamas.
- 26:55Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 26:55Speaker 1: And I was really astounded to see in particular how
- 26:58Speaker 1: expensive the summer pajamas were. So she has released a
- 27:02Speaker 1: selection of camis. where the top basically has these flaps
- 27:07Speaker 1: that open to reveal your stomach. Now, there wasn't much
- 27:13Speaker 1: material being used on these, and they will individually set
- 27:16Speaker 1: you back $ 79, while a pair of matching shorts is
- 27:21Speaker 1: a further $ 79. Now, this material looked rather thin, and
- 27:26Speaker 1: it looked like something that you could get on a
- 27:27Speaker 1: fast fashion website. Obviously, we have heard that there's some
- 27:31Speaker 1: special fabric which makes it skin friendly. Now, when it
- 27:34Speaker 1: came to the winter pajamas, a pair of long pants
- 27:38Speaker 1: is $ 109, while the matching shirt is $ 109. I understand
- 27:42Speaker 1: what she's trying to do here, and she's trying to
- 27:44Speaker 1: put her pajama line on a pedestal and say these
- 27:47Speaker 1: are a luxury brand, but she's marketed it all wrong.
- 27:50Speaker 1: if she has missed the whole point that these are
- 27:52Speaker 1: a special material that is kind to your skin, I
- 27:54Speaker 1: think people would have been okay with the price tag
- 27:57Speaker 1: if that had been properly promoted. As you've touched on
- 28:00Speaker 1: Kate Skims, which is Kim Kardashian's pajama line, they have
- 28:03Speaker 1: a very similar price tag, but they have really touted
- 28:06Speaker 1: themselves as being a luxury sleep brand. It's a hot item.
- 28:10Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 28:10Speaker 1: And you know, they've sell great shapewear and underwear. Like
- 28:14Speaker 1: they've gained a big name for themselves before they went
- 28:17Speaker 1: into sleepwear and And I feel like you expect that
- 28:19Speaker 1: price tag from a brand like Skims, but not from
- 28:22Speaker 1: a small influencer brand like Moana Smile Club, particularly because
- 28:27Speaker 1: these pajamas don't really look luxury. They look more on,
- 28:31Speaker 1: I mean, I hate to say it. I agree with
- 28:32Speaker 1: that person's comment. They do look a bit tacky. Well,
- 28:34Speaker 1: I do remember Sofa Dofa and Lily Brown, their influencers
- 28:37Speaker 1: that have pajama lines, and they've also been slammed over
- 28:40Speaker 1: the cost. And when you are a smaller business, you
- 28:43Speaker 1: actually have to put a bit of a mark on
- 28:46Speaker 1: the products. Well, also because you're not buying them in bulk,
- 28:48Speaker 1: so you don't get the discounts that larger brands get.
- 28:51Speaker 1: So it is always going to be a little bit
- 28:53Speaker 1: more expensive buying from a small brand. Now, Karina was
- 28:57Speaker 1: quick to respond to the criticism, describing the pricing as
- 29:01Speaker 1: middle of the range, which wasn't very popular. So under
- 29:04Speaker 1: a comment critiquing the prices, she wrote, you get what
- 29:07Speaker 1: you pay for with a poking out tongue. She continued,
- 29:10Speaker 1: a lot of development has gone into these pieces, they
- 29:13Speaker 1: also aren't overpriced compared to other leading brands. Now in
- 29:17Speaker 1: response to a customer asking how many washes and wears
- 29:20Speaker 1: they're likely to get out of the pajamas, Karina wrote,
- 29:23Speaker 1: I've never put out a bad product. I design everything
- 29:26Speaker 1: myself and back it with my life. I've been wearing
- 29:29Speaker 1: and washing these for two years. It's tried and tested
- 29:32Speaker 1: to say the least. I had to get the perfect
- 29:34Speaker 1: custom fabric blend to cater for my eczema and prescription creams.
- 29:38Speaker 1: A lot of attention and detail has gone in potentially
- 29:57Speaker 1: a lot of Karina's followers may know about her issues
- 30:00Speaker 1: with her skin. And she might've breadcrumbed along the way
- 30:03Speaker 1: that she was designing this new pajama range to help
- 30:07Speaker 1: people with skin conditions like her. But she's lost them
- 30:10Speaker 1: in the marketing. Yeah, because I think it needed to
- 30:13Speaker 1: be reiterated in the announcement post and maybe followed up
- 30:16Speaker 1: with some Instagram stories. Yeah, but by saying skin-friendly, no
- 30:20Speaker 1: one knows what that means. I mean, if you haven't
- 30:21Speaker 1: had an issue with your skin, you don't know that
- 30:24Speaker 1: you need skin-friendly pyjamas. Yeah, and a follower was quick
- 30:26Speaker 1: to point out that on Moana Smile's website where the
- 30:30Speaker 1: pyjamas were listed, it didn't outline what fabrics they were
- 30:34Speaker 1: made from and where they were manufactured. Karina has since
- 30:37Speaker 1: updated all items to state that they are made from 93% LyoSeal,
- 30:43Speaker 1: which is a hypoallergenic fabric. Again, something that you would
- 30:46Speaker 1: have thought you'd lead with. Yeah, definitely. Now, would you
- 30:49Speaker 1: pay over $ 200 for some pajamas? I want to know. Look,
- 30:54Speaker 1: I personally wouldn't. I have received some nice pajamas recently
- 30:58Speaker 1: for Christmas presents and birthday presents. Reese got me some
- 31:01Speaker 1: Peter Alexander sets that I probably wouldn't have bought myself.
- 31:04Speaker 1: that I've really liked. So I think they're a good
- 31:06Speaker 1: present for people, but I don't know if I'd personally
- 31:08Speaker 1: fork out for them just for an everyday wear. It's
- 31:11Speaker 1: so ironic that this topic has popped up because I
- 31:15Speaker 1: have been fully into searching pajamas because I really want
- 31:18Speaker 1: to get a nice set of winter pajamas for when
- 31:21Speaker 1: I give birth. And my sister-in-law recently gave birth to
- 31:25Speaker 1: our new nephew a couple of days ago, which is
- 31:28Speaker 1: super exciting. And it got me thinking like, oh, I
- 31:30Speaker 1: want to make sure that I get some black pajamas
- 31:33Speaker 1: so that they don't get dirty or anything on them.
- 31:35Speaker 1: And I actually would pay $ 200 for a nice quality
- 31:39Speaker 1: pair that's going to last me, that's comfortable and soft.
- 31:43Speaker 1: You're probably like me. So when I was organizing my
- 31:47Speaker 1: hospital bag, I came across Chantel Stanton, the model and influencer.
- 31:50Speaker 1: I love her. She had a baby, I think a
- 31:52Speaker 1: year ago now. I think he just celebrated his first birthday.
- 31:55Speaker 1: And I looked at everything that she'd put in her
- 31:57Speaker 1: hospital bag and she was wearing a the black skims
- 32:00Speaker 1: pajamas that were over $ 200. And I was like, do
- 32:03Speaker 1: I buy them? Do I not? My advice would be
- 32:06Speaker 1: to not buy expensive pajamas for the hospital. I bought
- 32:09Speaker 1: myself two 90s because 90s better because it's got buttons
- 32:13Speaker 1: and that you can just undo if you're breastfeeding. But
- 32:15Speaker 1: so does the pajama top. Yes, Sophie, but you don't
- 32:18Speaker 1: want to be wearing pajama pants when you've either given
- 32:21Speaker 1: birth vaginally or had a C-section because there's a lot
- 32:24Speaker 1: going on down there and nurses have to come in
- 32:27Speaker 1: and change pads and do this and that. I mean,
- 32:30Speaker 1: I don't even think I was wearing undies most of
- 32:31Speaker 1: the time the first night. Well, I also thought that
- 32:34Speaker 1: I might want a nice pair to wear when people
- 32:35Speaker 1: come over to visit me at my house and that
- 32:37Speaker 1: sort of thing.
- 32:38Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 32:38Speaker 1: I mean, you can wear them after, but again, you're
- 32:40Speaker 1: going to be getting vomit on them. I would actually
- 32:42Speaker 1: invest in a really nice dressing gown instead. I definitely
- 32:45Speaker 1: don't think that I'll be on the PR list for
- 32:47Speaker 1: Karina Irby after this topic, but I just really find
- 32:51Speaker 1: it interesting to see how she is trying to position
- 32:54Speaker 1: this brand We've seen the likes of Matilda Jurf selling
- 32:57Speaker 1: very expensive sleepwear and dressing gowns. Obviously, there is a
- 33:01Speaker 1: market there. Well, that fruit dressing gown, that might be
- 33:03Speaker 1: on discount. I always wanted that one too. Yeah, exactly.
- 33:05Speaker 1: We're on super sale now. But I think where she
- 33:08Speaker 1: went wrong potentially is that the designs didn't really reflect
- 33:11Speaker 1: a feeling of prestige or quality for me. Designs were
- 33:15Speaker 1: a little bit colourful and looked very fast fashion-y. And also,
- 33:19Speaker 1: her audience probably don't have that expendable budget.
- 33:22Speaker 4: Made a new friend called Patrick.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Matt Sikowsky has given an insight into how he and
- 33:27Speaker 1: Tammy Hembrough navigate arguments. And I actually think this is genius.
- 33:32Speaker 1: So Matt revealed on his podcast that he and Tammy
- 33:35Speaker 1: have made up a mystical person called Patrick that lives
- 33:38Speaker 1: with them, who they blame everything on in an attempt
- 33:42Speaker 1: to diffuse arguments. Let's have a listen to what Matt said.
- 33:45Speaker 4: Made a new friend called Patrick. Okay. Elaborate.
- 33:49Speaker 1: Elaborate.
- 33:50Speaker 4: You don't want to know more?
- 33:52Speaker 1: No, I do want to know more. I'm just confused. So...
- 33:54Speaker 1: I haven't heard of Patrick.
- 33:55Speaker 4: Patrick is a made-up mystical person. Yep. Roommate, if you must.
- 34:03Speaker 4: And he lives with Tammy and I, and we blame
- 34:07Speaker 4: everything on him that happens around... So, for instance, we'll say, oh, babe,
- 34:12Speaker 4: Patrick keeps leaving his bikinis in the bathroom. Yeah. And
- 34:16Speaker 4: she'll be like, oh, okay. Or she'll be like, Matt,
- 34:19Speaker 4: Patrick doesn't make the bed in the morning. You know
- 34:21Speaker 4: what I mean? And then we blame Patrick for all
- 34:23Speaker 4: this sort of stuff to make it.
- 34:24Speaker 1: Less conflict between us. So it's like you guys against
- 34:26Speaker 1: the problem.
- 34:27Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 34:27Speaker 1: That is literally the couple against the problem. It is,
- 34:31Speaker 1: isn't it?
- 34:32Speaker 4: And Patrick's a fucking problem, isn't he? God damn it, Patrick.
- 34:38Speaker 1: God, this Patrick sounds like a bit of a lazy slob.
- 34:40Speaker 1: I feel like there's a Patrick living at my house
- 34:42Speaker 1: at the moment as well. I might have to implement this.
- 34:45Speaker 1: Does Patrick take all the towels and leave them on
- 34:46Speaker 1: the floor or is that you? I think there's two
- 34:49Speaker 1: Patricks that do. I think it's great though, because I
- 34:53Speaker 1: know Kate with you, you've got your two dogs and
- 34:55Speaker 1: you kind of diffuse arguments with the dogs, like you
- 34:57Speaker 1: would have a dog voice.
- 34:59Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 34:59Speaker 1: Each dog has their own personality and it's not so
- 35:03Speaker 1: much around like with chores around the house. It's more
- 35:05Speaker 1: of You want to say something a bit edgy and
- 35:08Speaker 1: it sounds cuter in the dog's voice. Oh, Dad, stop
- 35:10Speaker 1: being a prick. I think as we approach motherhood, Amy,
- 35:13Speaker 1: we should take a leaf out of Tammy and Matt's
- 35:15Speaker 1: book and introduce this Patrick character because I think when
- 35:18Speaker 1: tensions are high, it adds a bit of comedic value,
- 35:21Speaker 1: doesn't it? Well, you end up like with the dog voices,
- 35:23Speaker 1: you end up having a voice for your baby as well.
- 35:26Speaker 1: And they help you diffuse the situation too. I think
- 35:28Speaker 1: the three of us need a Patrick in our friendship
- 35:31Speaker 1: and working relationship to blame it on like, oh, Patrick
- 35:34Speaker 1: didn't finish his run sheet for the podcast. Patrick put
- 35:37Speaker 1: an error in the podcast. What's an idiot Patrick talking
- 35:41Speaker 1: about fake tanning children? I love that the name is
- 35:44Speaker 1: Patrick as well. Like it's just such a random one.
- 35:46Speaker 1: Let's make one up for the podcast. I think it
- 35:48Speaker 1: needs to be a girl. Maybe we'll throw it out
- 35:51Speaker 1: to our podcast listeners. Can you help us come up
- 35:54Speaker 1: with a Patrick with a girl's name? who we can
- 35:56Speaker 1: blame all of our podcast issues on and all of
- 35:59Speaker 1: our fights on. Before we go, I was really hoping
- 36:02Speaker 1: to put together a segment on M. Davies' wedding. All
- 36:05Speaker 1: weekend I've been hanging out to see photos. She's been
- 36:08Speaker 1: dropping a lot of crumbs as well. Yeah, she put
- 36:11Speaker 1: up TikToks like on the morning of her wedding. Yeah,
- 36:13Speaker 1: and it's clear that someone has actually uploaded a photo
- 36:16Speaker 1: of her in her dress because she did put a
- 36:18Speaker 1: little reminder out of people not to put up photos
- 36:21Speaker 1: before she does. Yeah, that was interesting.
- 36:22Speaker 4: But, yeah.
- 36:23Speaker 1: So she hasn't put out her photos just yet. So
- 36:25Speaker 1: we are going to hold off to talk about that
- 36:27Speaker 1: on Friday. What's the bet? Because we're recording this on
- 36:31Speaker 1: Monday afternoon. She's going to put them out tonight.
- 36:33Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 36:33Speaker 1: They look silly. Yeah. Well, I feel like she might
- 36:36Speaker 1: have a deal with Vogue or another publication similar to
- 36:39Speaker 1: what Tammy Hambro had. So we might be waiting a
- 36:42Speaker 1: little while to see them, but I am so excited
- 36:45Speaker 1: to see her dress. I think it's going to be
- 36:46Speaker 1: something quite different and out there. She's obviously a fashion designer.
- 36:51Speaker 1: She had her fashion brand. Do we think there's going
- 36:53Speaker 1: to be a visible g-string in any of the bridal outfits?
- 36:55Speaker 1: She's already done it. She's done it. So she doesn't
- 36:57Speaker 1: need to do it again. I just love the dedication
- 36:59Speaker 1: that she backed up three TikToks on the day of
- 37:02Speaker 1: her wedding. I have a soft spot for M Davies.
- 37:04Speaker 1: I really like her content. Ever since she's become a mum,
- 37:06Speaker 1: I think she's a lot more relatable. And I've just
- 37:09Speaker 1: seen a really lovely side of her develop through motherhood. Well,
- 37:12Speaker 1: Tammy Hembrough enlisted the help. I think it was that
- 37:14Speaker 1: well-known girl on TikTok that does all of the social
- 37:17Speaker 1: media content for weddings. She ends up going to really glamorous.
- 37:19Speaker 1: Wedding content creator. That's the name I'm looking for. So
- 37:22Speaker 1: I'm guessing that M Davies probably has the same woman.
- 37:25Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 37:26Speaker 1: Yeah, but a lot of the videos she put up
- 37:27Speaker 1: were her speaking to camera. So I got the vibe
- 37:29Speaker 1: that maybe she put them up herself. Well, she's hardly
- 37:31Speaker 1: going to put up all the professional ones when she
- 37:33Speaker 1: hasn't shared her dress yet. We wait with bated breath.
- 37:36Speaker 1: That is all we have time for today. Thank you
- 37:38Speaker 1: so much for joining us for this episode. If you
- 37:40Speaker 1: have enjoyed it, could you please make sure you are
- 37:42Speaker 1: subscribed on Apple Podcast and also Spotify and leave us
- 37:46Speaker 1: a five-star review. There were some beautiful reviews over the weekend.
- 37:49Speaker 1: Thank you so much for those. This episode was recorded
- 37:52Speaker 1: on the traditional land of the Kaurna people of the
- 37:54Speaker 1: Adelaide Plains. We pay respect to elders past and present.
