- 0:00Speaker 1: The midterms are now less than three months away, and
- 0:02Speaker 1: there are some new signs that President Trump might be
- 0:05Speaker 1: in panic mode as voter anger intensifies. There's new polling
- 0:08Speaker 1: that shows that the president is underwater on a number
- 0:11Speaker 1: of key issues, for example, prices and inflation, the economy.
- 0:16Speaker 1: He's even losing steam on immigration and border security, which
- 0:19Speaker 1: are typically signature pieces of his agenda. But Trump says
- 0:23Speaker 1: that this is not his fault.
- 0:27Speaker 2: I inherited a mess in so many ways. The border,
- 0:31Speaker 2: which I solved very quickly. I inherited so many different problems.
- 0:36Speaker 2: This was a bad administration. This was an incompetent administration.
- 0:42Speaker 2: But I inherited high prices. And then from the first day,
- 0:46Speaker 2: they started using the word affordability. They looked at me. Affordability.
- 0:51Speaker 2: It was a new word. Nobody ever heard the word.
- 0:56Speaker 1: And it's not just his predecessor. The president is once
- 0:58Speaker 1: again throwing shade at the very party that he leads. Today,
- 1:02Speaker 1: Trump shared a rant against Republicans from a conservative influencer
- 1:06Speaker 1: who wrote, I don't think the Republicans, the GOP fully
- 1:10Speaker 1: grasped how badly they're effing up right now. It continues
- 1:14Speaker 1: with a warning that the party might be sleepwalking toward
- 1:17Speaker 1: a midterm reckoning. But Trump might have just found a
- 1:21Speaker 1: winning solution to this, and that is to turn the
- 1:24Speaker 1: spotlight right back on himself. Because just a minute later,
- 1:27Speaker 1: he reposted a list of things that he considers to
- 1:30Speaker 1: be his biggest accomplishments. Caroline, The Atlantic is reporting that
- 1:35Speaker 1: Trump's advisers told him that the poor polling reflects the
- 1:39Speaker 1: fact that The voting public still doesn't know many of
- 1:42Speaker 1: his accomplishments. So he suggested that the ad makers mine
- 1:46Speaker 1: his own on-camera statements as building blocks. And he says,
- 1:49Speaker 1: go look at the clips to make the ads. Is
- 1:53Speaker 1: that the right strategy here?
- 1:55Speaker 3: Well, the White House definitely needs to get new talking points.
- 1:58Speaker 3: You know, when the answer to everything is Iran can't
- 2:01Speaker 3: have a nuclear weapon and short-term pain for long-term gain,
- 2:04Speaker 3: people aren't believing the talking points anymore. So you're going
- 2:06Speaker 3: to have to get new material. But then second to that,
- 2:09Speaker 3: the administration does need to do a better job of
- 2:12Speaker 3: getting the accomplishments out there.
- 2:13Speaker 4: And there are many.
- 2:14Speaker 3: There's Trump accounts. There's record low fentanyl deaths. There's been
- 2:17Speaker 3: zero border crossings the last 15 months under Biden. It
- 2:21Speaker 3: was 5,000 a day in the El Paso sector. They
- 2:24Speaker 3: have to know that they're up against a biased media.
- 2:26Speaker 3: I mean, respectfully, this network covered Natalie Harp all last week.
- 2:30Speaker 3: I didn't hear any word about the young mother in
- 2:32Speaker 3: Virginia who was killed by an illegal immigrant from El Salvador.
- 2:35Speaker 3: Thank you for having me on so that I can
- 2:37Speaker 3: tell people about that. But the admin has to realize, yes,
- 2:40Speaker 3: they're up against a biased media. So use the other
- 2:43Speaker 3: tools at your disposal. That we used very successfully in 2024.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Go talk to the podcast audience. Use social media. I'm
- 2:50Speaker 3: a big believer that if you don't go talk to people,
- 2:53Speaker 3: they will assume the worst about you. It's why I
- 2:55Speaker 3: appreciate coming on here. And when we were talking to people,
- 2:59Speaker 3: we were going up in the polls.
- 3:00Speaker 1: What about the things that he's actually doing? Because there
- 3:03Speaker 1: are also things he's still doing right now that are
- 3:06Speaker 1: not helping. I mean, there's the tariffs. The whole thing
- 3:09Speaker 1: that he did with beef last week, which infuriated his
- 3:13Speaker 1: own base. I mean, he's got some problems that are
- 3:15Speaker 1: actually within his control, not just talking points, but things
- 3:18Speaker 1: he can actually do.
- 3:19Speaker 5: The talking points aren't the problem. This presidency up until
- 3:23Speaker 5: this point has been a failure. He was elected because
- 3:26Speaker 5: of things like affordability, although he doesn't believe that word
- 3:29Speaker 5: existed prior to him being elected this go around. But
- 3:32Speaker 5: gas prices are still high. Drug prices are still high.
- 3:36Speaker 5: Housing prices are still high. Grocery prices are still high.
- 3:39Speaker 5: We're now at month six in a war in Iran
- 3:41Speaker 5: that he said he was going to bomb his way
- 3:43Speaker 5: out of. People aren't seeing an end result of that.
- 3:45Speaker 5: So gas prices are going up. Fertilizers going up. So
- 3:49Speaker 5: by every metric, this this White House has been a failure.
- 3:51Speaker 5: But what he did last week was he went on
- 3:54Speaker 5: a 30 minute rant showing people the improvements he was
- 3:56Speaker 5: making to the to the White House with with gold
- 3:59Speaker 5: ornaments in Washington, D.C., He's a big time developer. So
- 4:03Speaker 5: that's what he's spending his time and energy on. We
- 4:05Speaker 5: have a billion dollar ballroom we're spending money on that
- 4:08Speaker 5: the taxpayers are putting the bill on. And so, look,
- 4:11Speaker 5: I understand that sometimes, you know, you have a bad
- 4:13Speaker 5: message or you have a bad messenger. But there also
- 4:16Speaker 5: is a point in time you're about to see candidates
- 4:18Speaker 5: begin to do this right now when your president's a failure,
- 4:20Speaker 5: you cut, bait and run. And that's what Republicans are
- 4:22Speaker 5: starting to do around the country.
- 4:24Speaker 3: But would you describe a border where there's been zero
- 4:27Speaker 3: border crossings for 15 months as a failure? Because I
- 4:29Speaker 3: don't define that as a failure. I have my criticisms,
- 4:31Speaker 3: but I don't define that.
- 4:32Speaker 5: As a failure.
- 4:33Speaker 3: Is that a failure?
- 4:34Speaker 5: How about this? No, that's not a failure. The failure
- 4:36Speaker 5: actually was Democrats. The failure actually was Democrats. When we
- 4:40Speaker 5: were running for re-election, acting as if the border and
- 4:43Speaker 5: crime was not a real issue, when people, particularly in
- 4:46Speaker 5: Texas and other places, because we were naive. So this
- 4:49Speaker 5: has been a success. But the reason that the president
- 4:52Speaker 5: was elected... was because people were having issues with their pocketbook.
- 4:57Speaker 5: And so let me tell you what the failure is.
- 4:59Speaker 6: They didn't like 10 million people coming into their country.
- 5:01Speaker 5: And they're glad that that border is closed. So let
- 5:03Speaker 5: me outline the failures of immigration just briefly. The failures
- 5:06Speaker 5: of immigration... or when we see ICE ripping parents away
- 5:09Speaker 5: from children, when we have people, Americans, dead in the street.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Because of violence.
- 5:13Speaker 5: This is what I'm talking about with the biased media.
- 5:15Speaker 3: Because you're not going to talk about the young mom killed.
- 5:17Speaker 5: In Virginia that was killed by an illegal immigrant, but
- 5:19Speaker 5: you're going to.
- 5:20Speaker 4: Talk about that?
- 5:21Speaker 3: The failures are, are you going to articulate?
- 5:24Speaker 5: First of all, everybody around the table, including Democrats, Barack
- 5:27Speaker 5: Obama actually did it well. Everybody says that if you
- 5:30Speaker 5: are illegal in this country, you commit a crime, you
- 5:32Speaker 5: should be deported.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Not everybody.
- 5:33Speaker 6: There's a lot of Democrats who didn't say that. Not
- 5:35Speaker 6: everybody says that. That is not true.
- 5:36Speaker 5: That's been the policy.
- 5:37Speaker 6: My member of Congress is against all deportations.
- 5:39Speaker 3: One second.
- 5:40Speaker 5: One second. One second really quickly because I want to highlight.
- 5:42Speaker 3: A lot of candidates on the Democrats are saying abolish ICE.
- 5:44Speaker 5: That's very far from. I want to go back to
- 5:46Speaker 5: the failures because you did not articulate or understand or
- 5:50Speaker 5: comprehend the failures of this administration. The reason he got elected,
- 5:54Speaker 5: the reason he got elected is because prices are high.
- 5:57Speaker 3: Not just that, it was border security too.
- 5:59Speaker 5: Listen, you can't beat the same drum. How about this?
- 6:02Speaker 5: Has he done anything about affordability? The answer is no.
- 6:04Speaker 6: Hold on a second.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Let me just make this point because I think it's important.
- 6:09Speaker 1: to just note that, yeah, the president closed the border.
- 6:12Speaker 1: And he does get some credit for that, although it's
- 6:15Speaker 1: interesting to see that he's still underwater, even on the
- 6:18Speaker 1: border security issue. And it could just be because it's
- 6:20Speaker 1: not as high on Americans' list anymore. Sometimes you're a
- 6:25Speaker 1: victim of your success. But the number one issue for
- 6:28Speaker 1: Americans is cost of living. He is underwater by 48%.
- 6:33Speaker 1: on that issue. Jobs and the economy, underwater, 27 points. Immigration,
- 6:39Speaker 1: so that's probably capturing some of what Bakari is talking about,
- 6:43Speaker 1: how it's being managed inside the United States. He's underwater
- 6:46Speaker 1: by 15 points. Crime and public safety, underwater by 13 points.
- 6:50Speaker 1: So there's clear evidence here that Americans think he is
- 6:53Speaker 1: not handling anything. Anything.
- 6:56Speaker 6: But I think his point and part of it is
- 7:00Speaker 6: getting in front of people and talking about his successes. So,
- 7:02Speaker 6: for example, if crime, he's underwater. We have record low.
- 7:07Speaker 6: crime rates right now, violent crime rates. That has gone down.
- 7:10Speaker 5: If he's under.
- 7:11Speaker 7: In Democratic cities also.
- 7:12Speaker 6: Yes, as a direct result of policies that the Democrats
- 7:16Speaker 6: introduced and then had to walk back, like defunding the police.
- 7:19Speaker 5: That's absolutely, that's 100% true.
- 7:20Speaker 7: I'm saying the crime is down in Democratic cities.
- 7:22Speaker 6: It's down across the country at the same time that
- 7:25Speaker 6: we actually have a president who's now focused on that issue.
- 7:27Speaker 6: And it's tied directly to immigration as well.
- 7:29Speaker 5: So you're telling me Donald Trump is the reason that
- 7:31Speaker 5: crime in Baltimore and Little Rock are down?
- 7:33Speaker 6: When you deport violent criminals from your country, the violent
- 7:36Speaker 6: crime rate goes down. That is how it works, yes.
- 7:39Speaker 5: That's not how it works.
- 7:40Speaker 6: Did crime go up because of Democrats?
- 7:43Speaker 5: No.
- 7:43Speaker 6: OK, so crime going up in Democrat cities is not
- 7:46Speaker 6: a direct result.
- 7:46Speaker 5: Do you know why crime is going down?
- 7:48Speaker 6: I absolutely do know why crime is going down.
- 7:50Speaker 5: Crime is going down because crime is going down in
- 7:55Speaker 5: places like Gary, Indiana, because Eddie Melton, the mayor there.
- 7:58Speaker 5: or Baltimore because of the mayor there and Brandon Scott,
- 8:02Speaker 5: or Randall Wolfen, or Andre Dickens. Crime is going because
- 8:05Speaker 5: they're taking a holistic approach to actually funding things like
- 8:09Speaker 5: midnight basketball, after-school programs. They're actually pouring money into primary
- 8:13Speaker 5: school education. They weren't getting funded before? No, they weren't.
- 8:15Speaker 5: Not to this rate. So that's why you have 50 years.
- 8:18Speaker 6: What happens when you defund police?
- 8:19Speaker 1: Hold on.
- 8:20Speaker 5: Why did they defund the police?
- 8:21Speaker 1: Again, I think that this conversation is.
- 8:24Speaker 7: Jason.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Respectfully, I think this conversation is actually kind of missing
- 8:30Speaker 1: the point. And maybe this is why Republicans are in
- 8:33Speaker 1: kind of a bad way, is that you can't tell Americans,
- 8:37Speaker 1: don't worry about that economic issue. That shouldn't be as
- 8:40Speaker 1: important to you. Let me just tell you about this
- 8:41Speaker 1: other thing over here. And as important as crime is,
- 8:45Speaker 1: their priorities are their priorities. And you can't gaslight them
- 8:48Speaker 1: into thinking... that they should care about things that are
- 8:50Speaker 1: not as high on their list as the economy.
- 8:53Speaker 5: Yes.
- 8:53Speaker 4: Caroline and Jason both talked about immigration and crime. And
- 8:56Speaker 4: those are important issues, but not this year. It's not
- 8:58Speaker 4: what voters want to hear about. They could go to
- 8:59Speaker 4: a hip hop concert and start playing disco. That's not
- 9:02Speaker 4: going to land very well.
- 9:04Speaker 7: Trump is hated in this country.
- 9:07Speaker 6: It's just true.
- 9:08Speaker 4: He's at an all-time low. And the economists went through
- 9:11Speaker 4: state by state. The president carried Michigan. He's now 26
- 9:16Speaker 4: points underwater there. He carried Ohio by 12. He's underwater
- 9:19Speaker 4: by 24. He's 30 points underwater in Georgia. He's 22
- 9:23Speaker 4: points underwater in my beloved Texas. This country wants a
- 9:26Speaker 4: brake pedal on Trump because of cost of living. And
- 9:29Speaker 4: anybody who's talking about Trump, on the Republican side, anybody
- 9:32Speaker 4: who's advertising Trump on the Republican side is going to lose.
- 9:35Speaker 4: If the Democrats had the money, we'd buy him another
- 9:38Speaker 4: plane because apparently the one he got from Qatar is
- 9:40Speaker 4: broken or something. We'd buy him another plane on.
- 9:42Speaker 5: The promise he would only campaign in swing states because he's.
- 9:45Speaker 4: About as popular as that cyclospora lettuce that gives you
- 9:48Speaker 4: exploding diarrhea. There's nobody lining up to buy that crap.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Well, he doesn't believe it.
- 9:52Speaker 5: Yeah, but he's an idiot.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Well, Geraldo, do you remember this? This is from a
- 9:55Speaker 1: Punchbowl interview a couple weeks ago.
- 9:57Speaker 5: Listen.
- 10:00Speaker 2: If I don't run, will those people go out and vote?
- 10:04Speaker 2: And that's the one thing I can't tell. I'm going
- 10:06Speaker 2: to ask them to. The question is, will they vote?
- 10:08Speaker 2: Because a lot of them are very angry at And.
- 10:12Speaker 5: Republicans, to be honest with you.
- 10:14Speaker 3: Why is that?
- 10:15Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 10:16Speaker 5: I mean, they're angry at Republicans.
- 10:17Speaker 2: But they're not angry at me.
- 10:18Speaker 3: That's an interesting thing.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Why?
- 10:19Speaker 5: They're not angry at me, but they are angry at Republicans.
- 10:24Speaker 7: He's extremely frustrated.
- 10:25Speaker 1: As I often ask, what is going on?
- 10:27Speaker 7: He can't get the prices down. He can't win the
- 10:30Speaker 7: damn war. He can't make China behave. He can't even
- 10:33Speaker 7: make Canada behave until the line and tariffs and so forth.
- 10:37Speaker 5: And he feels like.
- 10:40Speaker 7: Like a Hall of Fame coach who all of a
- 10:42Speaker 7: sudden his team is lousy and he blames the team
- 10:45Speaker 7: rather than himself. I really do believe that he's in
- 10:49Speaker 7: a very tough spot right now.
