- 0:00Speaker 1: It's all good.
- 0:01Speaker 2: How are you guys feeling about coming back to Australia
- 0:04Speaker 2: so soon?
- 0:05Speaker 3: I stoked, Yeah, it's the best. We love it there.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that's fantastic.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Was there anything from like your last trips here that
- 0:13Speaker 2: stands out as a memory for you guys?
- 0:17Speaker 3: I have one particularly, Yeah.
- 0:19Speaker 4: So I'm drinking an ice coffee and the greatest video
- 0:24Speaker 4: clip of all time between us got captured because we
- 0:27Speaker 4: were at one of the cliffs with beautiful cliffs. I
- 0:30Speaker 4: forget where it was, on one of the drives with
- 0:31Speaker 4: the water. It's beautiful, yep. And we stopped and I
- 0:35Speaker 4: had like a fresh ice coffee and I'm walking in
- 0:39Speaker 4: the parking lot and trends approaching and he's filming.
- 0:41Speaker 3: I don't notice, and he just goes, what's up, man?
- 0:44Speaker 4: He just smashes the ice coffee on my head and
- 0:46Speaker 4: it shatters everywhere and I just look.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Like, oh man, devastation.
- 0:51Speaker 3: It was devastation, you know.
- 0:53Speaker 4: I mean, hey, it was only five dollars or so,
- 0:55Speaker 4: so I wasn't too upset about it, but uh.
- 0:57Speaker 3: It was hilarious still mine, so.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Straight out of character for me too. I don't know anyone,
- 1:04Speaker 1: I'm sure I'm very I'm a.
- 1:06Speaker 5: Very easygoing guy. Just I just couldn't. I just I
- 1:10Speaker 5: was like, oh man, he teed it up and he
- 1:12Speaker 5: was like handing it to me Like I'm like like,
- 1:18Speaker 5: that was one of my greatest stories of all time.
- 1:21Speaker 4: I told him the the long con is coming though,
- 1:24Speaker 4: the revenge is coming. He just doesn't know what it's
- 1:26Speaker 4: going to happen. It's like Walter White when he's walking
- 1:29Speaker 4: in Amsterdam one day.
- 1:31Speaker 2: He won't says that revenge obviously hasn't been played out yet.
- 1:35Speaker 3: No, I'm still playing.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm going to be eating I'm going to be
- 1:38Speaker 1: eating hot soup. Yeah.
- 1:43Speaker 2: And you know what's a shame about that, too, is
- 1:45Speaker 2: our coffee is really good. I talk about this a
- 1:48Speaker 2: long time American.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Yeah, nothing compares, especially to the dirt water. You guys
- 1:55Speaker 2: have no offense. But what is that?
- 1:56Speaker 3: Yeah that's true?
- 1:58Speaker 1: Yeah, good, I'm glad. What was it called the flat white?
- 2:02Speaker 1: Yeah with that's with milk in it?
- 2:05Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 2:06Speaker 1: And is the other one just black? Just tall black?
- 2:09Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 2:09Speaker 2: You can cappuccino a long black. Yeah, they've got milk, well,
- 2:14Speaker 2: not the long black, but yeah, the cappuccino. Anyway, I
- 2:16Speaker 2: realized that you guys when I went to Hawaii, didn't
- 2:19Speaker 2: like to add milk to your coffee.
- 2:22Speaker 5: It would yeah, I maybe do I maybe do a
- 2:27Speaker 5: slight I maybe do a slight bit if you go
- 2:30Speaker 5: to Canada, if you go to Canada, Like my wife
- 2:32Speaker 5: and I were just in Canada and.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Like if I was like, oh, can I have like
- 2:38Speaker 1: a like a like a like a splash.
- 2:40Speaker 5: It was in Montreal, Yeah, And she looked at me
- 2:44Speaker 5: like I was crazy.
- 2:45Speaker 1: And I was like why why is it? Why is
- 2:46Speaker 1: that crazy?
- 2:47Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 2:48Speaker 5: And so I reader a nice coffee, just like a splash,
- 2:51Speaker 5: just a splash, just a little bit to take the
- 2:53Speaker 5: edge off. I don't want, you know, not too milky.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Still hold it up like it was half milk. And
- 3:00Speaker 1: I was like oh, and I was like and I
- 3:03Speaker 1: was like oh. I was like, oh the other one,
- 3:04Speaker 1: can you just.
- 3:05Speaker 5: Give me, like just just go like yeah, that's it.
- 3:09Speaker 1: And the other one.
- 3:09Speaker 5: She's like, what, but but but but it will be
- 3:13Speaker 5: too strong.
- 3:14Speaker 1: I'm like, no, No, that's okay. Like I like it.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I like I like my coffee to be like I
- 3:19Speaker 1: want to be like this atric exactly exactly I want
- 3:24Speaker 1: to be.
- 3:24Speaker 5: I want to look like a crack Fox after.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Well, if you guys know where it's at, you know
- 3:29Speaker 2: what you're talking about, then back on track. Are we
- 3:34Speaker 2: getting an array from your catalog or purely new music?
- 3:37Speaker 5: On this tour.
- 3:40Speaker 1: We always give an array.
- 3:42Speaker 5: We always try to like we always try to mix
- 3:44Speaker 5: it up. We still got to talk about what we're
- 3:47Speaker 5: gonna do, what we're gonna do on it.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, we have.
- 3:50Speaker 5: We have three little legs, like we're starting in the
- 3:52Speaker 5: US West Coast, US and then go and then going
- 3:56Speaker 5: up and then uh and then to Australia and then
- 3:58Speaker 5: Japan from there. So we've already been talking about the
- 4:02Speaker 5: new songs that we're going to add in the set.
- 4:04Speaker 5: Definitely the new singles because people have been really rocking it,
- 4:08Speaker 5: like rocking Midnight Ghost and let It Ride. So we're like, really,
- 4:12Speaker 5: we're really hyped on how many people I've been checking
- 4:14Speaker 5: it out, like considering the fact we.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Told nobody that we were putting it out.
- 4:19Speaker 5: We just said we just dropped it yeah one day,
- 4:24Speaker 5: So like, yeah, definitely like those songs. But Brian also
- 4:27Speaker 5: like he we we we we try to get like
- 4:31Speaker 5: bangers from every from every era. You know, It's it's
- 4:34Speaker 5: hard sometimes you know, because like I really I want
- 4:37Speaker 5: to know what people, you know, what the fans want
- 4:41Speaker 5: to hear that we haven't played yet, you know, you know,
- 4:47Speaker 5: like like because there's always like, oh, can you play
- 4:50Speaker 5: a diver?
- 4:50Speaker 1: And it's like, man, I'll play any song.
- 4:52Speaker 5: I'll play any song we have for anybody that wants
- 4:55Speaker 5: to I'll.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Play any song.
- 4:57Speaker 5: Yes, Like like my answer is always yes, you know
- 5:00Speaker 5: what I mean. But it's always that thing. It's like, oh,
- 5:03Speaker 5: I would die if you played this song. It's like, Okay,
- 5:05Speaker 5: we played the song, and then it's like okay, that
- 5:09Speaker 5: person and maybe one other personally people in.
- 5:11Speaker 1: This whole club that know that song, and.
- 5:15Speaker 5: It's like, ah, ship we had to take We had
- 5:17Speaker 5: to take out a song that a lot of the
- 5:20Speaker 5: other people want to hear.
- 5:21Speaker 1: So it's very sensitive. It's very sensitive. That's why I'm
- 5:25Speaker 1: not in charge of this cell.
- 5:28Speaker 3: It gets harder with uh, with every new record too.
- 5:31Speaker 4: You know, with bands that a big catalog like Wilhelm
- 5:34Speaker 4: or that have been around that long. It's like with
- 5:36Speaker 4: every new record, you essentially end up just playing the
- 5:39Speaker 4: singles and then you know, we always prioritize like there's
- 5:43Speaker 4: definitely gonna be blocks or songs off every album, you know, uh,
- 5:47Speaker 4: for the most part, and we're conscious about that, but yeah,
- 5:51Speaker 4: it's just one of those things. It's like they're all
- 5:54Speaker 4: your babies, you know, and and and all the songs
- 5:57Speaker 4: we play in the set regularly are like, you know,
- 5:59Speaker 4: have good, real actions and are great. So trading one
- 6:02Speaker 4: of those old ones for possibly a new one that
- 6:04Speaker 4: people loved, but it's not twenty years of touring. So yeah,
- 6:10Speaker 4: it's tricky, but it's fun. Playing new stuff is really
- 6:13Speaker 4: you know, is really fun.
- 6:14Speaker 2: So yeah, that's true. I never actually thought about that, Like,
- 6:17Speaker 2: obviously you have to play your cult faves and the
- 6:20Speaker 2: deep cuts and that, and you know, from an array
- 6:23Speaker 2: from like all your eras. But I guess you're right
- 6:27Speaker 2: the songs that maybe people don't know as well, and
- 6:30Speaker 2: if they get suggested and then yeah, you're so right,
- 6:32Speaker 2: Like which song then do you sacrifice? And there's a
- 6:36Speaker 2: lot that goes into that. And I do want to
- 6:39Speaker 2: talk more about your latest upcoming record, Chap Peete. Do
- 6:43Speaker 2: you feel more freedom or more pressure writing new music
- 6:46Speaker 2: this far into the band's life.
- 6:50Speaker 6: I I feel no pressure at all. I think for
- 6:59Speaker 6: our band, you know, we've always sort of been. We've
- 7:06Speaker 6: never been a part of a wave of anything. You know,
- 7:11Speaker 6: like we missed, we missed the punk wave, you know,
- 7:15Speaker 6: the hard the hardcore thing. We're not really like we
- 7:18Speaker 6: we just kind of like do our thing, you know
- 7:20Speaker 6: what I mean. We're sort of we're sort of like
- 7:22Speaker 6: a genre in.
- 7:23Speaker 5: And of ourselves almost so when new stuff comes out,
- 7:29Speaker 5: it's like we I guess for for me for those reasons,
- 7:34Speaker 5: like I always reference our own band, you know, So
- 7:38Speaker 5: it's kind of it's sort of like it's you're you're
- 7:42Speaker 5: you're in competition with a different version of yourself, you know,
- 7:46Speaker 5: and this this trippy almost like science fiction kind of way,
- 7:49Speaker 5: and it's like you you envision, you envision a version
- 7:54Speaker 5: of yourself that is like at its fucking.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Best, you know.
- 7:59Speaker 5: And then that's the thing that we always like chase mmm,
- 8:06Speaker 5: and that's what always keeps all of it. That's I
- 8:08Speaker 5: like to think that's one reason why our fans like
- 8:11Speaker 5: stick around and come and you know, keep coming out. Yeah,
- 8:16Speaker 5: you know what I mean, Because we're not like, we're
- 8:18Speaker 5: not like one of those like cool new like turnstile
- 8:24Speaker 5: type bands, you know what I'm saying.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Like whereas like you know, these people. You know, this
- 8:28Speaker 1: band is like is reg Rippon, but like they're also
- 8:31Speaker 1: quite fast. Yeah, they're also very cool.
- 8:36Speaker 5: They're also like they're all they're they're they're also like
- 8:39Speaker 5: cool as fuck.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Would this trick will talk to me in high school?
- 8:43Speaker 3: You know what I mean?
- 8:44Speaker 5: Yeah, Like like, no, we're like dudes off the street,
- 8:49Speaker 5: and we've always been that way, you know what I mean,
- 8:51Speaker 5: Like like like the dudes that you're gonna see us
- 8:52Speaker 5: walking the streets of Melbourne searching for our third coffee
- 8:57Speaker 5: of of the day. Like we're going to be, you know,
- 9:02Speaker 5: carrying that coffee into soundcheck and then you like we're
- 9:05Speaker 5: the same dudes, you know. And not to say that
- 9:09Speaker 5: other bands aren't the same people that they are on
- 9:11Speaker 5: the street, but I mean, like in a like we've
- 9:14Speaker 5: never we're not like the you know, I don't know,
- 9:19Speaker 5: like a part of like the Warped Tour crowd. It's
- 9:22Speaker 5: sort of like where it's like where it's like we're
- 9:25Speaker 5: cool enough for some crowds, not cool enough for other crowds.
- 9:28Speaker 5: And when you realize that and you don't give a
- 9:32Speaker 5: rats ass about that, man, where's the pressure. There's no
- 9:36Speaker 5: pressure and to be able to do this, like, you know,
- 9:41Speaker 5: at a high level still like where you know, it's
- 9:46Speaker 5: still like a career career, you know, not like guys
- 9:49Speaker 5: going on vacation and rocking out. This is like a career,
- 9:52Speaker 5: you know, like like we've never broken up, Like for
- 9:55Speaker 5: us to be in that, to be in that position,
- 10:00Speaker 5: I'm incredibly proud of that. It's fucking rare air and
- 10:03Speaker 5: we're lucky, and we're lucky, you know when it like
- 10:07Speaker 5: when I was saying those words out loud to you guys,
- 10:09Speaker 5: like I just convinced myself of how fucking lucky I am,
- 10:13Speaker 5: you know, and and how cool it is that we
- 10:17Speaker 5: get to play the kind of music that we want
- 10:20Speaker 5: without freaking telling anybody, And like, you know, one hundred
- 10:27Speaker 5: thousand people will listen to that song, you know, get
- 10:31Speaker 5: outa get out of here, Pinch Me, Pinch Me at
- 10:35Speaker 5: age fifteen, you know.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Yeah, oh, one hundred percent. That's what I like about
- 10:39Speaker 2: you guys. So admittedly I heard of you guys when
- 10:42Speaker 2: I was a teenager a long time ago. Shout out
- 10:46Speaker 2: to the Kingstead that was one of my favorite songs
- 10:49Speaker 2: of the time. But I remember trying to show my
- 10:51Speaker 2: friends and I'm like, I was very emo kid and
- 10:54Speaker 2: I was like, oh, this few bad, but like you
- 10:56Speaker 2: guys were a new band, but I was like, oh,
- 10:58Speaker 2: you guys should hear these. I didn't really know how
- 11:00Speaker 2: to categorize you because you don't follow trends. I'm like,
- 11:03Speaker 2: they're not Amo, they're not. But you know, you guys
- 11:06Speaker 2: have kind of elements of all different sort of genres
- 11:10Speaker 2: and I think, you know that's been a tribute to
- 11:13Speaker 2: your success, is that you guys don't follow trends. You're
- 11:16Speaker 2: doing what you want to do.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Thanks.
- 11:19Speaker 5: It's it's it's like it's kind of like a fine
- 11:22Speaker 5: line to walk, you know what I mean, because like
- 11:25Speaker 5: we don't like we play a type of music that
- 11:28Speaker 5: you know, we sort of like developed for ourselves, you
- 11:32Speaker 5: know what I'm saying, Like like our law, the Wilhelm lore,
- 11:36Speaker 5: we live in our songs, right, So it's kind of like, oh,
- 11:39Speaker 5: like we reference other things we do in other songs,
- 11:41Speaker 5: like I reference other songs that we do, you know,
- 11:44Speaker 5: you know, you know what I mean. Like, so we
- 11:49Speaker 5: also don't have like the trappings and the rules that
- 11:52Speaker 5: exactly maybe a hardcore band has to abide by, you know,
- 11:56Speaker 5: love it or love it or hate it, they do
- 11:57Speaker 5: have to abide by certain rules, uh, the same like
- 12:01Speaker 5: a street punk band would have to abide by some
- 12:03Speaker 5: kind of rules, you know what I mean, And and
- 12:05Speaker 5: for us to do that, yo, we're sticking our neck
- 12:07Speaker 5: out because it's a fine line, bro like between like.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Genius and cringe. It's a it's a fine line.
- 12:18Speaker 5: Yeah, but yeah, but yeah, Angela, I mean, like I'm
- 12:22Speaker 5: I'm I'm sure if you ask people in your friend group,
- 12:24Speaker 5: there would be a couple of people in your friend
- 12:26Speaker 5: group that would probably say the same thing. Right. They'd
- 12:30Speaker 5: probably be like, you know what, Yeah, that band's fucking awesome,
- 12:33Speaker 5: and then another bit another person would say, I don't fucking.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Get it at all, though obviously it's kind of like.
- 12:38Speaker 5: I think it's kind of lame as fuck, Like our
- 12:40Speaker 5: our songs are definitely like I feel like there, or
- 12:44Speaker 5: at least people tell me this. You know, they're more growers,
- 12:47Speaker 5: you know, like the more you the more the more
- 12:49Speaker 5: you listen to a song, the more shit you pick
- 12:52Speaker 5: up on. It's like, oh, I get it, and people
- 12:54Speaker 5: tell me, oh, I'm so glad I stuck it out,
- 12:56Speaker 5: and then I'm like to pull my fucking.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Hair out because it's like, shit, why couldn't this I couldn't.
- 13:02Speaker 3: Why couldn't we make.
- 13:03Speaker 1: This song good enough that they would love it on
- 13:05Speaker 1: the first listen?
- 13:07Speaker 5: Yeah, but you know what, I'm fine but now, but
- 13:10Speaker 5: now we have a sound.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Exactly I'm finding nowadays. Anyway, a lot of my favorites
- 13:15Speaker 2: now favorite bands. The songs I hear for the first time,
- 13:19Speaker 2: I actually don't vibe with until I've heard them like
- 13:22Speaker 2: about three times or something, and then I'm like, it's fire,
- 13:25Speaker 2: it's wicked. So yeah, I don't know, there's something in that.
- 13:28Speaker 3: I think.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Yeah, But also, how do you guys feel knowing that
- 13:33Speaker 2: your fans have grown up alongside your music, and like
- 13:36Speaker 2: where you were then and where you are today is
- 13:39Speaker 2: so different.
- 13:42Speaker 5: I think I'm bullying the con I'm like hogging the
- 13:44Speaker 5: conversation from Ben. But like, these are sort of these
- 13:47Speaker 5: are sort of like old guy jokes, old guy questions,
- 13:51Speaker 5: like I'm the old guy here.
- 13:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm the newest members.
- 13:56Speaker 4: So I feel appropriate answering some, but some I like
- 13:59Speaker 4: to leave to try.
- 14:01Speaker 2: I've got specific questions for you later, yea.
- 14:04Speaker 3: I Also I also don't enjoy it.
- 14:07Speaker 5: I also don't mean that in a negative way, Angela,
- 14:09Speaker 5: these are these are awesome questions.
- 14:10Speaker 1: I love you. I love these questions. Great. But but
- 14:14Speaker 1: but but but like.
- 14:15Speaker 5: That but yeah, like seeing like like like, uh, it's amazing, honestly,
- 14:19Speaker 5: Like it's like multi generational now, like you know, like
- 14:23Speaker 5: you know, uh, mothers and fathers bringing their bringing their kids,
- 14:27Speaker 5: you know, growing up with the freaking impeccable awesome taste
- 14:31Speaker 5: of music right and like these kids are like cool
- 14:35Speaker 5: as fuck, you know what I mean, Like you know
- 14:36Speaker 5: that you know, bringing that their like their twelve year
- 14:38Speaker 5: old kids who are just like they're like, no, I'm
- 14:41Speaker 5: into like punk rock, man, No, punk rock, punk rock,
- 14:44Speaker 5: you know what I mean. Which is like for for
- 14:46Speaker 5: a lot of like young young people, this type of
- 14:50Speaker 5: this this genre of like punk rock, it's not it's
- 14:54Speaker 5: not like experiencing it's it's heyday right now, you know
- 14:58Speaker 5: what I mean.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Like it's not like it's like it's.
- 15:00Speaker 5: More like metal is it is, like you know, where
- 15:04Speaker 5: whereas when I was like fourteen, it was more like
- 15:06Speaker 5: the punk stuff and now now now it's it's it's different.
- 15:11Speaker 5: So that to me is kind of like even more
- 15:14Speaker 5: special these seeing so many young people like coming out
- 15:19Speaker 5: to our shows, it's it's it's.
- 15:21Speaker 1: It's pretty awesome.
- 15:22Speaker 5: I'm like super proud of it, and like, I know
- 15:24Speaker 5: I made the old guy joke, but nah, I don't
- 15:25Speaker 5: feel old at all, like I think that.
- 15:27Speaker 1: I feel like it's just cool as shit.
- 15:29Speaker 5: Like you know, it's like a family thing and it's
- 15:33Speaker 5: a multi generational thing. Very proud that we could be
- 15:36Speaker 5: a band like that for you know, for families, you.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Should be you should be. What's something fans would be surprised,
- 15:43Speaker 2: you know about the band on tour from when you
- 15:46Speaker 2: first started to now?
- 15:48Speaker 3: Maybe oh man, uh surprised to.
- 15:54Speaker 4: I mean, they're all a bunch of sweeties, you know,
- 15:57Speaker 4: my might talk of me and Walker whatever. You know, yeah,
- 16:01Speaker 4: look rough and rugged and you know, talk a lot
- 16:04Speaker 4: of smack. But no, they're such great people and I
- 16:07Speaker 4: don't think people would be surprised. People know that they
- 16:09Speaker 4: wouldn't be surprised, you know. So, but I don't know,
- 16:13Speaker 4: I don't really have there there were no you know,
- 16:15Speaker 4: I've known them for twenty years, so it's you know,
- 16:17Speaker 4: I feel like i've but I've certainly grown to know
- 16:20Speaker 4: them a lot more lately.
- 16:22Speaker 3: And yeah, I don't know.
- 16:23Speaker 4: That's a hard question. But I'm gonna go with that
- 16:26Speaker 4: one because it's a nice one.
- 16:28Speaker 2: That is a nice one.
- 16:29Speaker 3: It's true, it's very true.
- 16:30Speaker 4: Like they be, they are always buds, but now they're
- 16:33Speaker 4: total family.
- 16:34Speaker 3: And you know what I mean, like the brothers. You know,
- 16:37Speaker 3: a bunch of brothers.
- 16:39Speaker 2: And I've read that you guys play about two hundred
- 16:42Speaker 2: and fifty plus shows a year. That is wild. How
- 16:46Speaker 2: do you guys keep up with that intensity without burning out?
- 16:52Speaker 3: Man, I don't know.
- 16:53Speaker 5: Two hundred and fifty oh if it's quite that much
- 16:57Speaker 5: now now, at one point, it was for many For
- 17:02Speaker 5: many years, we were out like eight or nine, eight
- 17:06Speaker 5: or nine months out of the year for a good
- 17:08Speaker 5: clip there. Yeah.
- 17:11Speaker 3: Yeah, But these days, these days we kind of keep it.
- 17:14Speaker 5: We keep it, you know, guy like no, no, you know,
- 17:18Speaker 5: guys have families and stuff. You know, It's like Nun
- 17:21Speaker 5: Nuno has a son, Brixton just turned thirteen, and you
- 17:25Speaker 5: know Nick, Nick has a family.
- 17:27Speaker 3: He's gonna he's got a step son and stuff.
- 17:30Speaker 5: So like they try to cap we've been trying to
- 17:33Speaker 5: cap the tourist to like three weeks, whereas me and
- 17:36Speaker 5: me and Ben just.
- 17:37Speaker 3: Want to hit the road, hit it.
- 17:41Speaker 5: Let's just stay, let's just keep rocking, Let's go from
- 17:45Speaker 5: continent to continent.
- 17:46Speaker 4: Yeah, on a busy year these days, I think we do, like,
- 17:51Speaker 4: you know, we probably do like six months maybe of
- 17:53Speaker 4: touring on a busy year.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Like it's still a lot, it's still a lot, but.
- 17:58Speaker 4: It flies by because, like Trevor said, it will be
- 18:01Speaker 4: two weeks here and then home for a month, three
- 18:03Speaker 4: weeks here, you know, a month in Europe, but then
- 18:05Speaker 4: home for two months and then so you get a
- 18:08Speaker 4: nice balance of you know, and we all do stuff outside,
- 18:10Speaker 4: you know, Trevor Kord's bands in his studio there.
- 18:13Speaker 3: I run a label out of this.
- 18:16Speaker 4: But you know, so we have stuff to fill our
- 18:18Speaker 4: time and make money with at home and stuff.
- 18:21Speaker 3: So yeah, it works that nice.
- 18:23Speaker 5: Yeah about kind of managing the time and manage managing managing,
- 18:28Speaker 5: managing your schedule, you know, and just being like, Okay,
- 18:31Speaker 5: well we're gonna be we're gonna be home for this
- 18:33Speaker 5: small group of time and then we have this. But
- 18:36Speaker 5: also like the way that music works and everything like
- 18:41Speaker 5: and has happened with us, like some of our best
- 18:43Speaker 5: opportunities have just like popped up, seemingly popped.
- 18:46Speaker 3: Up out of nowhere.
- 18:48Speaker 5: You know, so like we always have to have room
- 18:50Speaker 5: for that. So it's always an adventure every year.
- 18:52Speaker 3: And the text message.
- 18:54Speaker 7: Group see everybody's like reactions like oh how about this idea,
- 18:58Speaker 7: It's like, oh, well I'm thinking of this, I'm thinking that.
- 19:00Speaker 7: It's like, well, I'm thinking I'm thinking of using you know,
- 19:03Speaker 7: some some colorful language to like vent your feelings right now,
- 19:08Speaker 7: because we should be doing this ship you know.
- 19:10Speaker 2: Yeah, that's almost the group chat must be wild.
- 19:13Speaker 3: It's a fun time. It's a fun time.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Oh, the will helped group chat pops off.
- 19:18Speaker 3: We have like we have several of them. We have
- 19:20Speaker 3: like different ones.
- 19:24Speaker 2: Every time. Yeah, that's wicked. And from what we've heard
- 19:30Speaker 2: in Midnight Ghosts and Let It Ride, it feels like
- 19:33Speaker 2: you guys are balancing the classic a WS intensity with
- 19:37Speaker 2: some new ideas. What were you excited to push or
- 19:41Speaker 2: challenge yourselves with this time around?
- 19:46Speaker 5: Oh that's cool. It that with Midnight Ghosts, a big
- 19:50Speaker 5: new thing was Ben joining the band, and that was
- 19:55Speaker 5: like the first song I think we all wrote together,
- 19:57Speaker 5: like Ben, myself and Brian. It started off with Brian's
- 20:02Speaker 5: like bass riff, that kind of chorus riff that kind
- 20:05Speaker 5: of like kicks off the song and it kind of
- 20:07Speaker 5: like bookends the.
- 20:07Speaker 3: Song and is in the middle. It's the final countdown
- 20:11Speaker 3: of like pace parts.
- 20:12Speaker 5: I played at the beginning of the set, at the
- 20:14Speaker 5: end of the set, but then the next part that
- 20:20Speaker 5: comes in.
- 20:20Speaker 1: It was just like okay, who's next. Ben jumped in.
- 20:23Speaker 1: Ben jumped in with the beginning, and.
- 20:28Speaker 3: Then I came in with A and then and then
- 20:32Speaker 3: he came in with it.
- 20:34Speaker 5: So like it was like the the the three of
- 20:37Speaker 5: us here in the studio all get all getting together guys.
- 20:42Speaker 5: You know Ben, Ben traveling from from l A and
- 20:45Speaker 5: Brian traveling from Canada and coming coming here in New Bedford,
- 20:49Speaker 5: and we just like spent hours doing it. So like
- 20:53Speaker 5: that's like literally like the new like the new thing
- 20:55Speaker 5: of the set. And I think just by virtue of
- 20:58Speaker 5: all of like the human and is like making it,
- 21:02Speaker 5: it became this, you know, when we all add our
- 21:05Speaker 5: our five powers together, it ends up sounding like our band. Yeah,
- 21:11Speaker 5: so we're really excited about like having some fresh stuff,
- 21:14Speaker 5: you know fresh. You know, we're always searching for like
- 21:17Speaker 5: the new fresh cool ship that we could do that's
- 21:19Speaker 5: new for us and fun for us.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Yeah, we could Yeah, what do you think.
- 21:24Speaker 3: That, Yeah, I hogged part one.
- 21:28Speaker 4: I didn't want I told myself I didn't want to
- 21:30Speaker 4: hog part two.
- 21:31Speaker 3: Go band, I'm gonna mute myself.
- 21:32Speaker 4: No, I don't want to hog anything because I'm the
- 21:35Speaker 4: new guy and fans don't want too much of the
- 21:39Speaker 4: new guy. But thank you, but uh, but no, I
- 21:44Speaker 4: think it was like a band across six you know,
- 21:47Speaker 4: six full length records. Now you know, there's ebbs and
- 21:51Speaker 4: flows of intensity or shred, you know what I mean.
- 21:54Speaker 4: It's like Mute Print was on a one to ten,
- 21:58Speaker 4: like you know, maybe a seven or eight of it intensity,
- 22:00Speaker 4: and then Ruiners got songs that are out of ten,
- 22:03Speaker 4: but then songs that are like a four, that are
- 22:05Speaker 4: like indie rock song, and you know, fans forget that
- 22:09Speaker 4: sometimes like the band has almost gone emo in certain
- 22:12Speaker 4: party you know what I mean, old school emo, and
- 22:15Speaker 4: and then you get career Suicide, which is like opposite
- 22:19Speaker 4: just balls to the wall and you know, and party crashes,
- 22:22Speaker 4: a hybrid loser delusions, more kind of sincere and a
- 22:25Speaker 4: little more you know rock just like you know, slower
- 22:29Speaker 4: tempos here and there not as many super fast songs,
- 22:32Speaker 4: and so it's just natural for a band to kind
- 22:34Speaker 4: of you know, it's nice that Wilhelms has so many
- 22:36Speaker 4: tricks in their bag in our bag that we can like,
- 22:39Speaker 4: you know, never get tired of a certain sound and
- 22:43Speaker 4: and and when we revisit certain kinds of parts in
- 22:45Speaker 4: certain moods, it feels fresh again.
- 22:47Speaker 3: And because we didn't do.
- 22:48Speaker 4: Six albums of just Career Suicide or just you know
- 22:52Speaker 4: so yeah, but with this one, there was a renewed
- 22:56Speaker 4: you know, just there was an energy of you know, ferocity.
- 22:59Speaker 4: Let's let's go everyone's asses with this next one. Let's like,
- 23:02Speaker 4: you know, let's uh yeah, let's be sarcastic, let's get
- 23:06Speaker 4: real cynical again. Let's you know, yeah, the riffs match it,
- 23:11Speaker 4: and you know, they kind of came together at the
- 23:13Speaker 4: same time naturally.
- 23:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:15Speaker 2: So it sounds like you like can borrow from all
- 23:18Speaker 2: of your old sounds because you've got such a library
- 23:20Speaker 2: there of different genres and sounds, but then also make
- 23:23Speaker 2: something new that sounds new.
- 23:26Speaker 3: Yeah, totally. Yeah.
- 23:28Speaker 2: And the Common Threat tour was stacked, touring with bands
- 23:32Speaker 2: like Hot Water Music and Joyce man I push you
- 23:34Speaker 2: guys creatively at all.
- 23:38Speaker 3: That was a really fun tour.
- 23:40Speaker 1: That tour was sick.
- 23:42Speaker 5: It was awesome getting to uh share the stage with
- 23:47Speaker 5: like in like bands like Defeat, you know, like you know,
- 23:50Speaker 5: like we don't really get to like play with a
- 23:52Speaker 5: lot of bands like that have that like you know,
- 23:56Speaker 5: that kind of sound, and uh yeah, it was wonderful
- 24:01Speaker 5: and inspiring tour to be on with all of these
- 24:04Speaker 5: great bands, like just seeing you know, like we're we
- 24:07Speaker 5: love hot Water Music and you know they've taken us
- 24:10Speaker 5: on tour. I mean they're continuing to take us on
- 24:12Speaker 5: tour this year, you know, like or you know or
- 24:16Speaker 5: or like you know recently, I should say, and like
- 24:23Speaker 5: seeing them is just like and then with Chris Creswell too,
- 24:28Speaker 5: I mean, Jesus, Jesus, Like with Chris playing like now,
- 24:32Speaker 5: it's like continues to continue to inspire us, just like
- 24:36Speaker 5: they did way back in the day, you know when
- 24:39Speaker 5: when we were when we were nineteen years old and
- 24:42Speaker 5: they played down the street from here, you know, on
- 24:46Speaker 5: tour randomly, you know, no one wore a.
- 24:48Speaker 1: Shirt that shows.
- 24:51Speaker 5: There was no everyone had their shirt off in that
- 24:53Speaker 5: in that small like VF like Alcoholics, Anonymous Recovery set Reflections,
- 25:02Speaker 5: they had like amazing shows like hardcore bands, you know,
- 25:05Speaker 5: like lots of classic ones, you know what I mean.
- 25:07Speaker 1: Like and it's like the size of this room honestly,
- 25:10Speaker 1: like this place.
- 25:10Speaker 3: Was super tiny.
- 25:12Speaker 5: But like you know, bands like Great and Ink and
- 25:14Speaker 5: Dagger and you know, like the list goes on and on,
- 25:17Speaker 5: like Bane, like every every converge of every band has
- 25:21Speaker 5: played like Reflections for a while while it was around,
- 25:25Speaker 5: and uh yeah, hot Water Music was one of those bands.
- 25:28Speaker 5: It was like the obvious band from Florida that just
- 25:30Speaker 5: kind of came up and you know they maybe they
- 25:32Speaker 5: had I think they had like maybe two records.
- 25:34Speaker 3: Out on No Idea at the time.
- 25:36Speaker 5: Yeah, and seeing a band like that was like Megan's
- 25:40Speaker 5: mega inspiring, the passion that they just put into it,
- 25:45Speaker 5: freaking every freaking little second of this of this of
- 25:49Speaker 5: the show that was instilled in all of us, that
- 25:51Speaker 5: affected all of us.
- 25:52Speaker 3: In a major way.
- 25:53Speaker 5: And like you know, I expected, you know, in in
- 25:56Speaker 5: a major way too, Like as a guy like singing
- 25:58Speaker 5: in that that type of of you know, that singing
- 26:02Speaker 5: Chuck's like Chuck and Chris's singing style was hugely influential
- 26:08Speaker 5: I think on like Nuno and like the development of
- 26:11Speaker 5: his voice in Nuno's own sound that is you know
- 26:14Speaker 5: now you know there's only one nun you know, like.
- 26:17Speaker 1: He developed his own sound over time.
- 26:20Speaker 5: But that was I Yeah, so playing our Common Thread
- 26:24Speaker 5: and seeing all these bands that are that that are
- 26:27Speaker 5: like post hardcore and like hardcore hardcore adjacent and like Emo.
- 26:33Speaker 3: In the in the in the in the in.
- 26:37Speaker 5: The way that I remember Emo being when I was
- 26:40Speaker 5: like younger, those bands it was more of like it
- 26:43Speaker 5: was more indie rock, you know, and just like the
- 26:47Speaker 5: Emo came from the subject matter of the material, not
- 26:53Speaker 5: really like the sound of the voice or whatever.
- 26:56Speaker 1: Right, So.
- 26:59Speaker 5: Very cool to be fining all those bands, you know. Yeah,
- 27:02Speaker 5: so like, yeah, we made a lot of friends on
- 27:04Speaker 5: that tour, right.
- 27:04Speaker 3: Ben, Yeah, it was. It was a homie fest for sure.
- 27:07Speaker 3: It was so fun.
- 27:09Speaker 4: Yeah, Like you know, so many of those bands have
- 27:11Speaker 4: been you know, our DNA in some way or another,
- 27:15Speaker 4: like hot Water, you know, Strike Anywhere, all these bands
- 27:18Speaker 4: that from back then, you know and still doing it still,
- 27:21Speaker 4: you know, ripping and also an opportunity to like that
- 27:24Speaker 4: was a unique tour that went so well. Shout out
- 27:27Speaker 4: to Common Thread Tour. But like, yeah, you know, I
- 27:30Speaker 4: love Tiger's jaw. I don't know in what world, Wilhelm
- 27:32Speaker 4: would be able to tour a Tiger's Jaw outside of
- 27:35Speaker 4: like a really unique combination mini festival thing like that,
- 27:39Speaker 4: And the same goes for heavier bands like Modern Life
- 27:42Speaker 4: is War so cool. I've been listening to them for
- 27:44Speaker 4: a long time and so yeah, it was an eclectic
- 27:46Speaker 4: group and it's inspiring to be around. All those bands
- 27:49Speaker 4: are awesome bands.
- 27:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that line up in particular, it's like
- 27:54Speaker 2: you guys are the pioneers of the genre without a
- 27:57Speaker 2: name sort of thing like but the same sort of
- 28:00Speaker 2: that is so awesome to know that you guys go
- 28:02Speaker 2: way back as well.
- 28:04Speaker 1: Mm hmm with them.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Yeah, awesome. And Trevor, you've said that every album might
- 28:11Speaker 2: be the last. Does that mindset change how you write
- 28:14Speaker 2: or record?
- 28:17Speaker 5: Yeah, I I We're always trying to Uh. We always
- 28:23Speaker 5: draw like we're not like jocks by nature, but we
- 28:26Speaker 5: always use.
- 28:26Speaker 1: Like sports analogies for this kind of thing.
- 28:29Speaker 5: We always leave it on the court, like whether it's
- 28:32Speaker 5: like our live show or like the songs that were
- 28:36Speaker 5: like making or like the the extent that we of
- 28:42Speaker 5: you know, what we put ourselves through and here to
- 28:45Speaker 5: get the takes, you know, like that we know that
- 28:48Speaker 5: we are deep down or capable of. And so yeah, yeah,
- 28:56Speaker 5: so like we basically we just put our we just
- 28:58Speaker 5: put our all into it, you know.
- 29:00Speaker 3: And and like we're never really.
- 29:04Speaker 5: You know, we're always searching for you know, you know,
- 29:08Speaker 5: like I'm already thinking about the next things that we
- 29:10Speaker 5: can improve upon in the in the recording aspect, you know,
- 29:15Speaker 5: like the technical technically speaking and stuff like that, so
- 29:18Speaker 5: and and and everything, And we're always kind of searching
- 29:21Speaker 5: for that next thing. Like like the the guys in
- 29:24Speaker 5: the Descendants, like Bill Bill had a would always you know,
- 29:28Speaker 5: we talk about this like a lot.
- 29:31Speaker 6: He would.
- 29:32Speaker 5: They always had them that kind of mindset Like no,
- 29:35Speaker 5: they're they call it all, you know, they're going for all,
- 29:39Speaker 5: and all means also they're going for how can we
- 29:46Speaker 5: improve our live show? You know, oh, how can we
- 29:48Speaker 5: step up? How can we how can we step up?
- 29:52Speaker 5: Like like in it like in a technical way, I
- 29:53Speaker 5: mean like like not like performance wise like they do,
- 29:57Speaker 5: you know, they do the thing, but it's more like, oh,
- 29:59Speaker 5: how can you know, Oh how about that, what's the
- 30:01Speaker 5: next microphone that can sound that much better? Okay, what's
- 30:04Speaker 5: the next like always like put like putting challenges you
- 30:08Speaker 5: know ll like Hell's hills to climb, you know what
- 30:11Speaker 5: I mean, And like that's where the juice is right there.
- 30:14Speaker 5: I mean, whether you're writing songs or like you're recording
- 30:17Speaker 5: songs or like you know, touring on songs, playing shows,
- 30:23Speaker 5: Like we do have that hunger that.
- 30:25Speaker 1: We're always trying to get better.
- 30:27Speaker 5: We're just always trying to get better, like and there
- 30:31Speaker 5: is no best or whatever, you know, Like it's just
- 30:34Speaker 5: like we're just trying to get better. You know, how
- 30:37Speaker 5: can we step it up? Because like if we get better,
- 30:40Speaker 5: it's more fun, you know, And it's all about having
- 30:43Speaker 5: continuing to have more fun. You know. Having a pride
- 30:46Speaker 5: in something is fun. Feeling like you kick ass in
- 30:49Speaker 5: something is fucking fun, you know what I mean. And
- 30:51Speaker 5: it's a good addiction to have, you know, it's a
- 30:53Speaker 5: fucking really good addiction to have, so that I feel
- 30:57Speaker 5: like like I always like pushing that even you know,
- 31:04Speaker 5: like Ben has that same fucking fire, you know, Like
- 31:07Speaker 5: so that's why he like fits right in with it
- 31:09Speaker 5: with us, you know what I mean.
- 31:10Speaker 2: It's like, yeah, I think it's so important to have,
- 31:14Speaker 2: sorry Ben, to have that mindset of like Kate aiming
- 31:19Speaker 2: for more, especially as a band obviously. You know, if
- 31:23Speaker 2: you think you've already done your best stuff, then why
- 31:25Speaker 2: keep going?
- 31:26Speaker 3: You know, That's what I think.
- 31:27Speaker 4: Yeah, Yeah, you got to have a pride in what
- 31:30Speaker 4: you're doing and always try to, you know, push yourself.
- 31:34Speaker 4: And I think you see a lot of bands get
- 31:36Speaker 4: complacent and comfortable, you know what I mean, and and
- 31:40Speaker 4: sometimes they look miserable on the road, you know what
- 31:42Speaker 4: I mean, or at a festival, and I'm sure all
- 31:45Speaker 4: our minds go, hey, there's a lot higher paying jobs
- 31:49Speaker 4: if you want to sit around and be miserable.
- 31:50Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, Can I take yet?
- 31:54Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 31:55Speaker 4: So you always got to be grateful and keep your
- 31:57Speaker 4: feet grounded, and you know, stay inspired, stay students of
- 32:00Speaker 4: the game, you know.
- 32:02Speaker 2: Definitely love that. And last question, what do you hope
- 32:06Speaker 2: the band represents?
- 32:08Speaker 3: Now that's a good question. I could take a swing
- 32:17Speaker 3: at it. Yeah you want, I mean to me.
- 32:21Speaker 4: You know, the question is what do we feel like
- 32:24Speaker 4: we represent or what we want to represent?
- 32:26Speaker 2: Yeah, what do you hope the band represents?
- 32:29Speaker 5: Now?
- 32:29Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 32:30Speaker 4: I mean I think I hope it represents like a
- 32:34Speaker 4: dedication of the spirit, you know what I mean, like
- 32:37Speaker 4: never giving up. You know, we're not rock stars, but
- 32:41Speaker 4: we love our lives and we love what we get
- 32:43Speaker 4: to do, you know, and our fans love us and
- 32:46Speaker 4: they're very special and they stick with us. And so
- 32:50Speaker 4: I think for me, I'd like to represent like you
- 32:53Speaker 4: could always depend on Willholm, you know what I mean,
- 32:55Speaker 4: Like as long as we're around, you got us to
- 32:58Speaker 4: keep it real and uh, you know, so yeah, I
- 33:03Speaker 4: mean I think I would sum it up that way maybe,
- 33:05Speaker 4: and also just ye.
- 33:09Speaker 3: In a musical way too, just like be true to yourselves.
- 33:12Speaker 3: You know that's kind of a corny sounding thing.
- 33:14Speaker 4: But having my objective, more objective perspective joining the band,
- 33:19Speaker 4: a lot of my previous questions about Wilhelm, like became
- 33:23Speaker 4: clearer and answered to me because I see how they
- 33:25Speaker 4: work and how much they love each other and how
- 33:28Speaker 4: you know, and and how much they're free to express
- 33:30Speaker 4: themselves and no ideas get shot down like that, you
- 33:33Speaker 4: know what I mean, and and all these things and
- 33:35Speaker 4: that's that's what leads to longevity and stuff.
- 33:38Speaker 3: And that I learned that joining the band. It's it
