- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Everyone thinks AI can do anything, just not what they do.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: Written by Michael Schumacher.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: Sponsored by Clinico, software for people who care about balance.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Get a 90 day free trial at clinico.com forward slash physio hyphen matters.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: You won't go back by the way, it's really good.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: It can write their marketing,
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: answer their emails, and probably do their accounts better than their accountant.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: But Suggest AI might do some triage or follow-ups,
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: or heaven forbid,
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: some actual physiotherapy,
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: and suddenly it's dangerous and unproven and years away,
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: and patients will never go for it.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: I see a lot of false narratives at the moment, and most of them are self-serving.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: You only have to spend five minutes on LinkedIn to see AI can't ever do this,
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: AI can't ever do that.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: And there's always the same pushback.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but patients want humans.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: People don't want online physio.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: Didn't you know my hands are magical?
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: It was suggested to me that this article is probably a couple of years too early,
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: but 2026 is very different to 2006 or 2016.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: We aren't in a position where an industry can sit back,
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: fail to modernize,
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: continue being two steps behind and expect to survive,
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: as has been the case in the past.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: Even forgetting AI for a moment,
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: I could probably chat with more clinic owners than just about anyone
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: and speaking purely from a commercial standpoint
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: that successful clinics today are embracing change and have been for years and
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: the clinics that aren't are being shown up badly.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: I've often said if you're still operating today like you did five years ago,
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: you're falling behind.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: In 18 months, you won't have much of a business left.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: Why?
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: Because AI changes everything.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: This time,
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: it's not just a case of someone technically,
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: strategically and commercially immature ending up at 60 owning
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: a clinic they thought was their pension and realising it barely covers the cost of
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: an all-inclusive holiday to the West Bank.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: This time, those clinic owners that don't adapt simply won't be around for much longer.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: But Michael, you're wrong.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: Patients didn't want online physio in COVID, so they won't want AI physio.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: People need the human touch.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: AI is not just something we need to worry about.
