- 0:00Hey there citizens, this is Jar Jar Jabroni from Open Comms
- 0:03Radio. And I just want to say thank
- 0:05you. Thank you to our listeners,
- 0:07wherever you're listening and thank you to our callers for
- 0:10calling in. Maybe you're a listener and
- 0:12maybe you, you hear us and you go, oh man, I totally agree with
- 0:15what those guys are saying. Or oh, I, I strongly disagree.
- 0:19Or maybe you're thinking, well, they, they didn't talk about
- 0:21the, the toilet gameplay. I want to hear so much about.
- 0:24I got things to say about that. Great.
- 0:27You can call on in every week. We meet Wednesdays at 9:00 PM
- 0:32Eastern, 6:00 PM Pacific Time. If you do want to call in,
- 0:36there'll be a link on whatever platform you're listening on.
- 0:39Just click that Discord link, join the Discord and pop on into
- 0:42the call Wednesday nights. Second announcement today.
- 0:48Some of these episodes have been getting a little bit long, so
- 0:52from now on, if our episodes do hit the two hour mark like they
- 0:55did this week, fresh off the heels of Citizen Con Direct,
- 0:58it's going to be two episodes. I'm just going to cut it in half
- 1:00so this episode won't have the the normal outro, but in future
- 1:05episodes I'll hope to put that in anyway.
- 1:08I've been Jar Jar Jabroni and this is open Comms Radio.
- 1:21The thing is though, now that you say that, I can't see it.
- 1:23You're absolutely right. We're playing.
- 1:25Let's let's talk about that first, because.
- 1:27I was going to go in a totally. Different direction.
- 1:29You can make as much money as you need and work your way
- 1:32towards any ship in the game. They they were trying to cash in
- 1:36off of that nostalgia and that hype.
- 1:43Whoa, you hear that voice? Hear that voice?
- 1:47I. Hear.
- 1:49I hear your voice. Look at that, I thought I lost
- 1:54my voice. Couldn't find it, didn't know
- 1:58where it went. You had me worried, I'll be
- 2:00honest. Yeah, you.
- 2:03You didn't react. I thought you were going to
- 2:04react when I told you I'd lost my voice.
- 2:06I, I was still, I was away from my computer.
- 2:09I didn't see. I walked back like 20 minutes
- 2:11afterwards and I'm like oh fuck. You were cool as a cucumber.
- 2:15Yeah, I was actually. I already had another Co host
- 2:17lined up. Oh yeah.
- 2:19Yeah, I'm just going to roll it out.
- 2:21Yeah, you could have. You could have Citizen Con would
- 2:26have gone on without me. It almost did.
- 2:30It almost. Did.
- 2:33It almost did. We, we hosted the DC Duke here
- 2:37and I, we hosted the DC Citizen Con and it went, it went well,
- 2:43but it almost it almost. Didn't start.
- 2:45It has its ups and downs for sure.
- 2:49Is that elevator humor? This isn't very little.
- 2:58Yeah. Yeah, go ahead.
- 3:00Yep, Yep. Well, this week we're going to
- 3:03dive right in. And this week's question, Nix.
- 3:08Or is it Nix? Nix.
- 3:12Nix. Or is it?
- 3:13But what about engineering? What about engineering?
- 3:17Nix. But what about engineering?
- 3:19So Duke, really quickly, we're going, we have a lot of guests.
- 3:21We're just going to get right to him.
- 3:23Will you tell me? You know what do what do I
- 3:28think? I think I think Nick's is just
- 3:31some more content and I would like engineering.
- 3:35That's, you know, you, you don't want me to, to, to wax poetical
- 3:40about it because we won't be able to get any of our guests.
- 3:44Yeah, we got a lot of guests. We're we're going to just dive
- 3:45into them. First guest, someone you know,
- 3:48someone you love, someone who's Co hosted the show before it was
- 3:50with us in Washington DC. Cosmic hobo.
- 3:54Howdy, welcome Hobo. Hobo Knicks?
- 4:01What about in here? Engineering, yeah, all right.
- 4:08But Nick's like, come on, That's I was right.
- 4:13Rob and I were right. Oh I I see what this is.
- 4:16There we go, it's our victory. I I attribute it to jar jar.
- 4:20Yeah, now, now I know why he was here so early.
- 4:23Yeah, I wanted to be. I wanted to point out how right
- 4:26I was you. Wanted to bask in his own glory.
- 4:29Yep, Yep. That's my home run engineering.
- 4:32Yeah. All right, yes.
- 4:35I mean, it can be nice. You can, you know, I know and
- 4:37our questions a little leading. If it's not how you feel, then
- 4:40then tell us how you feel. I, I like engineering and I
- 4:45think engineering itself is another one of those.
- 4:48We do need more like systems as far as game systems go.
- 4:51As much as I love Knicks, as much as I'm looking forward to
- 4:54it, I agree we do need stuff like engineering.
- 4:58Like one of the things I was really hoping to see was base
- 5:00building. Of course at Citizen Con didn't
- 5:04didn't hear a hear a lick about that, but engineering at least
- 5:09is that's going to be something I think we'll absolutely see
- 5:14first. And we obviously need it first
- 5:17because part of it is resource network.
- 5:20You need a resource network for the base building cause bases
- 5:23have. You know, yeah, I heard people
- 5:26say this and I'm like, why? Why do why do you need it?
- 5:29They don't really need it. They could put in base building
- 5:31where you just plop down a tent, right?
- 5:33Yeah, I guess, but then then it wouldn't really mean much.
- 5:39I 'cause it's going to tie into crafting.
- 5:42You need somewhere to do like large scale or medium scale
- 5:46crafting cause large scale is going to be like space stations
- 5:52and capital. So when you say resource system
- 5:55what what do you mean? You have resources you need for
- 6:01the base such as oxygen, power, water, those sorts of things
- 6:08that you would need to keep functioning for your base to be
- 6:12maintained. So not for the construction, but
- 6:14for the the continued. Right.
- 6:17Construction is just a resource thing like that's that's pretty
- 6:21straightforward. You need X amount of iron, X
- 6:24amount of titanium, X amount of copper that that if you've
- 6:29played probably any sort of a game, an open world game in the
- 6:34last like decade, that's pretty straightforward.
- 6:37I. Think I've played Star Citizen.
- 6:40Well, I don't know if that counts.
- 6:43So hobo them. Them not mentioning engineering
- 6:45at all doesn't faze you. Not so much you.
- 6:49Think it's going to be here by end of year?
- 6:52On a tech preview, we're we're, we're going to probably see a
- 6:55couple tech previews running at once this before the end of the
- 6:58year because we're going to have crafting and I reckon we're
- 7:01going to have engineering. We're going to have so many
- 7:06versions of the game running at once.
- 7:09The main servers are going to just suck.
- 7:13I'm OK with that. It's kind of a return to form,
- 7:15you know. Yeah, yeah.
- 7:17And new game features and you know, 5 frames at a time,
- 7:22struggling to fit through one door.
- 7:23No, no, no, no, please. Nostalgia.
- 7:26Yeah, I'll. Put it away.
- 7:27It's. Nostalgia.
- 7:29I'll put it on the shelf if it goes back to 5 frames.
- 7:31For sure. All right, I'll scoot over.
- 7:33I said my piece. I'll scoot over.
- 7:35All right, our next guest, I think it was Lord Nubis, was
- 7:38Lord Nubis. It was, yeah.
- 7:39Mr. Mr. Anubis. We go in order or who got here?
- 7:43Lord Anubis? Title Nix.
- 7:48But what about engineering? Lord Nubis.
- 7:52Well, you know, I, I, I was always a proponent of
- 7:57engineering, but now that I've heard the logical argument
- 8:00cosmic I, I have to take cosmic side that Nix is more important
- 8:04because cosmic was right. Thank you I'm.
- 8:07Going to abandon my position and everything I know because of
- 8:12just that simple fact that he was right, that it, that it,
- 8:15that it was happening, that that's all.
- 8:17The apotheosis of cosmic hobo. Yeah, no, feels good, Knicks.
- 8:23Yeah, I I don't really know if it matters too much, honestly,
- 8:28because it's not a full-fledged system.
- 8:30It's it's it's two places. It's and and it's like, OK,
- 8:37cool, they're adding a couple places, but it doesn't change
- 8:40anything, you know, other than, OK, well, when you're doing a
- 8:45cargo run, you're going to have to jump through a wormhole.
- 8:47That's it. Like, and it's not.
- 8:50So there's not need live, you know, resource, you know,
- 8:55balancing or anything like that. It's still just the same old
- 8:58stuff with just a couple more locations.
- 9:00It's a bigger sandbox with the same amount of sand.
- 9:04Yeah. You know, they're just spreading
- 9:07it out. Yeah.
- 9:10Engineering would bring a new play style.
- 9:14It would bring a new breath of life.
- 9:17But I mean, even medical, you know, they, they think they've
- 9:20revamped that it didn't make a single difference.
- 9:25Like for all the flub of they did and everything that they,
- 9:29you know, with the bed gel, it didn't do anything.
- 9:32So we need something besides just more locations because
- 9:38there really nothing changed. I mean, I I bought some of that
- 9:40bed gel. That's money sync.
- 9:44And then I just put it in Caddoil's locker and that was
- 9:48it. Hopefully it's still there.
- 9:52It probably is. He does a good job and it's not
- 9:56even a money sync because I I haven't bought any like I
- 10:00haven't needed to at all. Yeah, they're putting Med beds
- 10:05everywhere you go now. Yeah.
- 10:08Yeah, right. There's every time they try to
- 10:10bring medical gameplay, you know, quote UN quote bring it
- 10:14back. They instantly dilute it.
- 10:17Yep, you need. To not get free Med bill Med gel
- 10:21back when you claim a ship. That's that's the problem.
- 10:24Your Med gel should run out. Yeah, but they won't do that.
- 10:29And that, that's the thing, they they don't want to change the
- 10:32the ES and and and I get that, but I don't know.
- 10:38Yeah, next. It'll be interesting to look at,
- 10:43but that's it. I mean, you know.
- 10:47I'm quite eager to go mining in Knicks.
- 10:51Yeah, industry folks are gonna eat He.
- 10:53Yes, he he will. Yeah, yeah, they're gonna have
- 10:57missions, I think for it. Yeah.
- 11:00So if they, I mean if they have that going on and and if you can
- 11:02again, if you can like build Rep, they didn't mention
- 11:04anything about that. Yeah, and I think that silence
- 11:08is telling. I I think we'll have the same,
- 11:11you know, mining on your own that we've got.
- 11:13And then I think from what we saw, the missions that they'll
- 11:16have for miners look like they're going to be, they're
- 11:19going to include P versus P, which, you know, PvP miners.
- 11:24Yeah, like the rock cracking allowed that new mission where
- 11:27you crock they crack the big rock at the facility and then
- 11:31they said, and you know, you crock crack that rock and you
- 11:34might have some unfriendly people showing up and other
- 11:38players. So it was instantly like, you
- 11:41know, they'll do this cool mission you can mine, but as
- 11:45soon as you start doing that, you're going to be getting
- 11:46attacked. So, and I, I enjoy P versus P,
- 11:51but I'm like, so you're going to force, you're going to force P
- 11:53versus P and you're going to force combat on space stats.
- 11:59I thought you meant PvP mining. Like legitimately mining PvP
- 12:03game. But mining lasers are pretty
- 12:04dangerous. They could do like AP versus P
- 12:07mining if they did like competitive contracts.
- 12:12Yeah, that would be cool. That'd be cool.
- 12:14Contract goes out, you know, if 10 different people grab the
- 12:16contract, it's like whoever completes it first, or you know,
- 12:19whoever, well, once they bring in the different, the different
- 12:24qualities of minerals, they could be like whoever brings in
- 12:27the highest quality of corundum would win.
- 12:30That would be interesting. Gets the, gets the strips.
- 12:33I just want to see a mole roll up on another mole and just
- 12:36start mining its bags like. Nah, I'm taking it extracting.
- 12:42All right, All right. Well, we're going to, we have
- 12:43more callers than waiting room. So if you don't mind scoop a
- 12:47little bit there. Well.
- 12:49I didn't see which one came next actually.
- 12:51Well, we're just going to go can order them with EE6.
- 12:57Welcome to Open Comms Radio. Thank you for having me.
- 13:02Thank you for being here. Our question this week.
- 13:04Next, what about engineering? Well, I really don't have an
- 13:10opinion on engineering yet. I'd ever played it when it was
- 13:14in the tech demos. And so I'm just kind of waiting
- 13:19to see what it's actually going to be.
- 13:20So I'm actually more interested in Next because yeah, for me
- 13:25engineering is just kind of a wait and see sort of thing.
- 13:31So you're not you're not sad that they didn't mention
- 13:33engineering? Not really.
- 13:36OK. I I can understand the argument
- 13:39that there's a lot of stuff that's dependent on engineering.
- 13:43I can kind of go either way on that.
- 13:45I mean, with the complexity that they want, I can definitely see
- 13:49that, But I don't think they necessarily would have to hold
- 13:51up other features to for engineering.
- 13:56It might make it easier in the long run because then they don't
- 13:59have to go back and fix things you know later on.
- 14:01But. But we all know how much CIG
- 14:05likes to go back and fix things later or.
- 14:07Yeah, or or not. Yeah, or the elevators.
- 14:14Hey, the elevators are. They've been good.
- 14:17They've been good. But but they were broke for a
- 14:19while. Yeah, yesterday an elevator
- 14:22appeared in the middle of my hanger and I had to go push the
- 14:26button and I was like where the elevator's not coming, walked
- 14:29around my hanger, found it like in the middle of my hanger,
- 14:31walked into it, pushed it to go back to lobby and then it like
- 14:37reset it. Wow, that's brave.
- 14:41I actually just got thrown into the the structure of a a station
- 14:44earlier this week, just like the old days, so they haven't fixed
- 14:47everything. That's comforting.
- 14:52You feel like you're going to be comforted in Knicks here.
- 14:56I'm looking. Forward to that what do they
- 14:58call it the tactical space battle thing that they're
- 15:01they're planning that looks interesting makes the capital
- 15:04ships more worthwhile and not just somebody running around
- 15:07with a single soloing and Idris. I saw some people commenting on
- 15:15the the trench run and saying that it looked like it was just
- 15:19going to be too hard for most people.
- 15:23We'll send Murph in there, he'll be fine.
- 15:26Everybody you know, look, go. If you find your friend who can
- 15:29actually fly, if you don't have one, you know going to arena
- 15:33commander, wait for someone to kick your butt and then just say
- 15:35hey. I don't think it'll be too hard,
- 15:39but if you want to do the, you know, where you just hover in
- 15:44there to take stuff out, I don't think you're going to have a lot
- 15:47of fun because you're going to, you're going to be taking
- 15:51distortion damage that whole time.
- 15:53So you are going to have to do the whole strafing thing.
- 15:56Oh yeah, you, you can't hang out in there.
- 15:59Yeah. Yeah, I do remember them talking
- 16:01about the distortion the whole time.
- 16:03Put me on the drop ship, put me on where the interest is, I'll
- 16:06be happy there. Yeah, I'm done for some FPS.
- 16:10Or drop ships. Yeah, there's going to be a drop
- 16:14ship portion. Will it actually drop or have
- 16:17they implemented that in yet or? It's going to be just.
- 16:22Like land and run out. Yeah.
- 16:25Yeah, so it's not a drop. Everybody just gets into special
- 16:29seats and then just exits, you know, calmly.
- 16:33Don't don't they work though? Don't I?
- 16:34Don't they work in like the prowler and stuff the drop seat?
- 16:39T posing anymore when you're getting in them.
- 16:43Are you T Yeah, 'cause you just sit in the seat and then when
- 16:45you get out you just run straight out the door.
- 16:48It doesn't like drop you but like that's how the ship works.
- 16:51I mean, a drop ship is kind of useless without like parachutes
- 16:55and stuff, you know? And then, I mean, that's always
- 16:57kind of been the problem. Well, it's it's a 0T boarding
- 17:01action 'cause it's the space station.
- 17:07I guess I can see that. So it's it's.
- 17:10You can't even call it a drop zone, it's a float zone.
- 17:14Sure, swim. Swim Zone.
- 17:18OK, which wouldn't it, wouldn't it be cool if we had some more
- 17:21land battles? Yeah, All right.
- 17:23Like we get all these big space events.
- 17:26What about a land battle? None of that was mentioned.
- 17:30It was just, it was mostly just Nyx and a few missions coming up
- 17:33in Nyx it it felt like a, a long big ol, what do you call them
- 17:38stars. ISC.
- 17:41Just. Felt like a a long two hour 1.
- 17:44I saw like a Reddit comment someone said it's just going to
- 17:47be like a long ISC. They were.
- 17:49Right, and that that's exactly what it was and and I and it did
- 17:53not feel like the event that it you know, that that I don't
- 17:59know, something is disturbing about the fact that it didn't
- 18:02feel like an actual event. It just felt like, you know,
- 18:05something you would have seen just casually dropped on
- 18:09YouTube. Yeah, yeah, I'd say it
- 18:13definitely had less fanfare. But isn't that?
- 18:17Responsible, Responsible. I've seen that commentary and
- 18:24I'm just like throwing up in my mouth all.
- 18:27Right. Echo, do you have anything to
- 18:29add to this before we bring up our next guy?
- 18:30No. I don't.
- 18:32I don't have anything to add. All right, Echo, you can scoot
- 18:34on over there. We're going to bring Shvit on
- 18:37up. Shvit.
- 18:39Long time no see. Welcome to Open Comms Radio.
- 18:43What's? Our question Dookie.
- 18:45Are questions tonight next? What about engineering?
- 18:51Well this is going to be an interesting take as someone who
- 18:54hasn't seen the Citizen Direct. What?
- 18:59Yeah, no, I haven't seen it. I was out touching grass,
- 19:02believe it or not. Oh boy, that's hearsay.
- 19:05You beast. Does that.
- 19:08I know, right? It's it's it's wild.
- 19:10So I don't even know what Nick says.
- 19:14I just know Levski exists. So that's gonna be a yeah, let's
- 19:19go. But beyond that, engineering
- 19:21wise, I'm just kind of waiting here for us to be able to have
- 19:27the opportunity to do engineering because it's
- 19:29extremely important. Because for all the other MMO
- 19:32RPG's I've ever played, the end game you have crafters and
- 19:37gatherers always nonstop doing something which then leads to a
- 19:43collect collectible. Sorry, just.
- 19:46Collect. Collectibles, Collectibles.
- 19:53My apologies of hey, let's get the rare thing, the thing that
- 19:59only you can get by doing this thing.
- 20:03Caused by engineering. What I'm trying to get at is
- 20:06where is fishing Chris? Where is my fishing end game?
- 20:11I need to craft an engineer myself, a boat and a fishing
- 20:15rod. I don't care if it's space
- 20:18whales or not, I will be waiting to.
- 20:22Engineer myself. Plus three years.
- 20:28So that is that is my take on engineering where it's certainly
- 20:32important. But what do you mean by
- 20:34engineering? Like engineering of a ship?
- 20:38Like oh systems go down got to repair it or?
- 20:42Engineering is that's what it is like.
- 20:43There's, there's a fire. You got to put the fire out.
- 20:45You got to like. Repair those fire extinguishers,
- 20:48Yeah. It's it's the thing that was in
- 20:50tech preview at the beginning of this year and then disappeared.
- 20:54You know, prepare. The warp core, fix the plasma
- 20:57leaks, you know, put out the fires, fix the ship so you can
- 21:01get it back running after it's been soft death.
- 21:04Understandable. So my opinion on that matter is
- 21:10basically it would be nice to have to have, certainly, which
- 21:17would bring back my initial feelings from Pyrocitizen Con a
- 21:23few years back where the solar flares were a thing.
- 21:28You're flying, you're minding your own business.
- 21:30And then, oh, hey, look, let's check out the settlement.
- 21:33And then solar flare, you're just sidewind.
- 21:38You're gonna eat dirt one way or another.
- 21:42That would have been cool. Might as well attempt to fix it
- 21:44if you possibly can. And if they did ever bring back
- 21:48the flares from from that, I could see a whole slew of a mess
- 21:54of people saying, hey, what's this?
- 21:58Or people just abandoning pyro. But it's, it's kind of a, a
- 22:03balance between having environmental stuff going on.
- 22:08You enter a planet's surface that's extremely aesthetic and
- 22:12suddenly you don't your ship doesn't have a hole.
- 22:16Versus interior fires, which, yeah, it would be cool, but I
- 22:21feel like in the moment, for most people it could be
- 22:24overwhelming. Where you're in a fire fighting,
- 22:27let's say an Asgard and the hold is on fire and you have one guy
- 22:31with a fire extinguisher and he's getting bumbled around as
- 22:35you're trying to dodge a pirate. God only knows where I it it's
- 22:41there's something that needs to have a balance and we won't know
- 22:44until it's implemented the first time around, just to like the
- 22:49first implementation will be rough.
- 22:52People will be up in arms most likely, but it's it's and always
- 22:57is. But it's a necessary thing that
- 23:00needs to happen, whether that is before NICs, during NICs or it's
- 23:06it's going to happen one. Way or another.
- 23:09We know it, the devs know it. So what I'm hearing from you is
- 23:13you, you want physicalized wrenches.
- 23:18Look, I I use an excessive cane after dislocating my knee, so
- 23:22yes. I think what he said was Nick's
- 23:26engineering. Where are my solar flares?
- 23:30And where's his fishing rod? I I I will say.
- 23:33The only problem with solar flares is they make no sense.
- 23:37Oh, let's let's not try to get logic into this.
- 23:40Yeah, let, let, let's. Not get into that logic in
- 23:42there. We we have assets in this game.
- 23:46I mean the how are they flaring that fast?
- 23:48And then why is your ship that's capable of flying right next to
- 23:51the surface of a sun, not shielded for the same radiation
- 23:57that it's going to encounter every single day?
- 24:00Disruption. Damn.
- 24:01You said you could fly near the surface of the sun.
- 24:03Oh so. Don't fly into sun, that's a bad
- 24:05idea. Right.
- 24:06I mean. Sometimes we we don't have a
- 24:07choice, we just spawn there. That's true.
- 24:11Yeah, they hit us through physically like a wave, you
- 24:13know? What was their excuse for
- 24:15getting rid of the flares? Wasn't it that the supposedly
- 24:17they couldn't get the NPCS to be affected by it?
- 24:21I actually. Don't know.
- 24:23You mean the ones who run around in space naked?
- 24:27I I beg your pardon? They do that.
- 24:31The naked NPCS that just walk around going, hey, I'm an NPC
- 24:35like just with no, I'm just gonna run around and he's got.
- 24:38The biker jackets and the yeah, the git mask and just running
- 24:41around on. The surface of them, which, by
- 24:44the way, you know we're all never nudes, right?
- 24:48Yeah, and there's dozens of us. Well.
- 24:53Did you know there's a skeleton inside?
- 24:56If you go to an OLP anytime, Duke it, it's it's been one of
- 25:01those trends lately where people will just knockout soldiers,
- 25:04take all their stuff off, and then you go there and there's a
- 25:07whole bunch of people in underwear running around in
- 25:09space. Where is this Bonkers.
- 25:16All right, you, you text me an address after the show.
- 25:21Tritus Damar. Get my Polaroids.
- 25:25All right, we're going to we're going to make room here for our,
- 25:28our next, our next guest Shifting may or may not have
- 25:33also watched Citizen Khan. It is wicked, wicked.
- 25:38Welcome to Open Comms Radio. Citizens occasional caller.
- 25:47Wicket next. What about engineering?
- 25:53All right, well, cool as Nick's looked and the visuals they
- 25:57shared and the citizen cons, it looked very impressive.
- 26:02Look, you know someplace you want to check out, but I think
- 26:06it's it's released, it's going to be limited of what we'll be
- 26:11able to do there. Hopefully not, maybe I'm
- 26:13mistaken, but it you know, they'll, they'll release it and
- 26:17say, OK, we pushed it out. But at the end of the day, I
- 26:21think engineering is way more important than Nick's because
- 26:27engineering will be able to happen anywhere.
- 26:30Nick's Pyro, Stanton, Terra, wherever you know, the
- 26:36engineering is going to be a fundamental game changing
- 26:41gameplay mechanic that we're all going to have to interact with.
- 26:45And I don't know if it's going to be good or bad, and but it,
- 26:49it's probably way more important to have engineering than it is
- 26:54to have Nick's understand why they're doing Nick's because,
- 26:57you know, that's a new beautiful place to, to play and it
- 27:02satisfies a lot of people's wants and desires.
- 27:05But I think they missed the ball with prioritizing that over
- 27:09engineering. I think the engineering will
- 27:12will at the IT will eventually have way bigger impact on
- 27:16everything that we do when and if we actually play the.
- 27:20Game. Anymore.
- 27:22Do you think they're prioritizing it or do you think
- 27:24it's just like a a different team working on it?
- 27:26Well, I think it was telling that they didn't really talk
- 27:31about it in the, in the citizen con, right.
- 27:34And I'm, I'm, I, I was like very surprised when they announced
- 27:41it's only going to be two hours. Now that I had what, you know,
- 27:45experienced citizen con, I understand why they only had two
- 27:50hours, why it was only two hours.
- 27:52They didn't have much to talk about.
- 27:56You know, obviously, you know, in, in prior citizens cons, it
- 28:00was either a day or last one was 2 days.
- 28:02And there was tons to talk about and discuss and hype up and over
- 28:06promise and never deliver. But you know, that's that's the
- 28:10nature of it. I'm going to say it.
- 28:12I'm going to say it again. It was responsible.
- 28:15This was this was a good decision.
- 28:17It was the most rational citizen con we've ever had.
- 28:21Yeah, listen, I don't, I don't, I don't get on several planes to
- 28:26be spoken to rationally. I I get on the plane so that you
- 28:34know Chris and and his team of of little hype beasts can can
- 28:38whisper, whisper little dreams of of tech demos into my.
- 28:42Ears. OK, you got on the planes to see
- 28:45us like frame it that way. No, no, it's.
- 28:50Alright, no, I I wanted to put my pickle basically.
- 28:53See, that's what I'm saying. No, I did.
- 28:56I did get on. I did get on the plane to see
- 28:58you, but I was, you know, Susan Kahn, you know it from an
- 29:02outsider's perspective or from a, you know, business
- 29:04perspective, It's supposed to be the, the fundraising event,
- 29:08right? And I came away from that and
- 29:10I'm like, I don't, I don't know what kind of numbers they're
- 29:12going to get from that. I mean, they not that they
- 29:14needed it this year, right? They're already ahead of every
- 29:17other year. But I certainly didn't hear a
- 29:20lot of people saying I got to bust out my wallet to get this
- 29:24ship or that one or, you know, I got to, I got to spend $40 on a
- 29:28land claim. Well, hold, hold your horses
- 29:32there, but. Nor did we hear anything new,
- 29:36right? It was none of it was new.
- 29:38So wait, here's a little new. My thing is I'm just holding
- 29:43right that we didn't hear anything really new and didn't
- 29:47see anything really new because they are just head down working
- 29:50on squadron and they're going to do a really good job.
- 29:55And then once that's done next year, fingers crossed, the
- 29:58floodgates will open and we'll start to see all these these
- 30:01features that we so desperately want to see, which is what we
- 30:06thought when they said it was feature complete.
- 30:09And when we said, Oh my gosh, they're going to put everyone
- 30:12over on our Citizen now. Yep.
- 30:16I feel like they're not done right, They're not ready.
- 30:19And they are putting some people right.
- 30:21They're putting the content people because the guys who make
- 30:25the locations in Squadron, the guys who make like, you know,
- 30:29what the ships look like and what the aliens look like,
- 30:31they're all done. It's just the programmers who
- 30:34are still working on it, and those are the ones we need in in
- 30:38Star Citizen. I can see that.
- 30:41I can see that. But I mean, the problem is, is,
- 30:45is you have Nicks with only two locations.
- 30:49And frankly, I think they were only made to generate like, like
- 30:56videos for what they will be promising in the future.
- 30:59And they never actually, like, worked on it ever since then
- 31:03because like, we've seen those things ever since they announced
- 31:06there was going to be new systems.
- 31:08We saw those two locations. There's nothing else besides
- 31:12that, which is frustrating. So it's like they never actually
- 31:16got back to it. True.
- 31:18Yeah. So they showed us.
- 31:20They showed us this next last year we didn't see Next.
- 31:24Three, last year we didn't see this much.
- 31:28But we're also not going to see the Knicks planets this year.
- 31:34Well, OK, that's fair. Yeah.
- 31:37And Levsky was already a place. It was a shadow of what it is
- 31:43now. Well, it's going to be.
- 31:45I sort of prefer the old Knicks. I like the the planetoid look,
- 31:50yeah. I feel like touching grass was
- 31:53definitely the option here. You shut up.
- 31:58You could have touched grass with us.
- 32:00You could have come down here and touched.
- 32:01Grass while we didn't keep your like it.
- 32:04Was Canadian Thanksgiving. No, mostly people touched
- 32:07alcohol. I mean, it was really, it was
- 32:10really Canadian Thanksgiving. Yes, it was actually Canadian.
- 32:13Thanksgiving. Hey, happy, happy Canada.
- 32:15Thanksgiving A Yeah. Happy Thanksgiving A sorry,
- 32:18sorry. We got we got another, we got
- 32:23another guest we're going to pull on up here.
- 32:26All right, Scoop. Well, hold on.
- 32:29It is we're, we're getting big on the couch, but we need to
- 32:33make room for a commercial break.
- 32:37So is that what? We're calling it.
- 32:38Yeah, well, our. Sponsors commercial break.
- 32:41Hang on tight right here and we'll be back after word from
- 32:45our sponsors. Cruise Locks won me the race,
- 32:52got me the girl. Cruise Lux, give me hepatitis C
- 33:00Cruise Lux. All right, we're back.
- 33:04We're back at Open Comms. Radio.
- 33:06Who the hell wrote that 20% slam by volume?
- 33:10Yeah, you need to always include that disclaimer.
- 33:13Oh well, I thought. Well, love you.
- 33:14Didn't tell people where to buy it like.
- 33:20You know, can I? I, I didn't tell people my name.
- 33:26I didn't say, hey, you're here. Well, it's copyrighted, so.
- 33:29I I never forget these. I never.
- 33:31Oh, you only. You only just found your voice
- 33:33right before we started, so. Yeah, yeah.
- 33:35A lot going on today. Yeah.
- 33:38All right, Speaking of someone we have found, he's a vegetable.
- 33:42He's a man. He's broccoli, Rob.
- 33:48How's it going y'all? How's the good broccoli?
- 33:52Broccoli Nicks? What about engineering?
- 33:58Nicks it happened feel pretty good feel pretty good tattoo I
- 34:03did. Do you feel Cardigan letting
- 34:06people know about it? Yeah, sure.
- 34:09This is a It was a cover up. I got Freelancer tattooed on me
- 34:13and I also got the moon broken up into seven pieces because
- 34:19it's from a book that I like. There you go.
- 34:22I'm a big is a big sucker on my tattoo.
- 34:25Big old freelancer right out, right smack dab all weekend,
- 34:30Brock the Rob was like, if they show Nick so I'm going to get a
- 34:32Star Citizen tattoo and then they showed Nicks and he rolls
- 34:36up his sleeve and he goes look and I go, what?
- 34:39It's not small either. It's it's big, it's good.
- 34:44What are you going to do when they eventually update the
- 34:45freelancer and change the way it looks?
- 34:48Just get that covered up too. You know, this is a this is a
- 34:50cover up. So I'll just keep keep Con
- 34:53covering it up. Just keep layering it on there.
- 34:56What are you going to do when you're in the old folks home and
- 35:00the nurse is like bathing you and they go, oh, wow, look, a
- 35:02freelancer and you go, oh, you play Star Citizen.
- 35:06Like, yeah, I hope it comes out soon because.
- 35:09Yeah, fantasy. Is the nurse pretty the.
- 35:12The the the nurse. In the nursing home is going to
- 35:14say no, I don't play Star Citizen.
- 35:16I'm still waiting for it to be released.
- 35:19Dude, we're going to be the coolest generation of old people
- 35:22in the home ever. Oh yeah, annoying.
- 35:25Do that, too. Are you kidding?
- 35:28Like, I used to work my HDMI cables loose.
- 35:32Yeah, I used to. I used to work in equipment.
- 35:35And the last thing we need is move beds in and out while
- 35:39there's like a whole bunch of pops and like, you know, just
- 35:45memorabilia just everywhere strewn about.
- 35:49But what I was. Going to say is.
- 35:52Next exciting. Yeah, right, hot dog.
- 35:57I think it's, I like the whole rolling out of it kind of like
- 36:03how we saw Stanton because there are things that we would like to
- 36:07see and there are things that they're going to do.
- 36:10And instead of waiting possibly another year for Nicks, I'd much
- 36:14rather them roll it out now and just kind of keep drip feeding
- 36:17his content over the year. That's how Satin rolled out.
- 36:23Originally it was Crusader and then Art Corp next and then
- 36:28Herson. I remember right.
- 36:30Or was it the other way around? I think it was Art Corp, no
- 36:34Hurston Art Corp and then Crusader.
- 36:38New micro tech in their Crusader.
- 36:41Correct micro tech. What if they do this forever?
- 36:45Like what if this is the future? Why not just keep on rolling
- 36:50out, slowly rolling things out and just kind of giving them to
- 36:54us until one point O, one point O happens.
- 36:57We have a complete game. They have in theory all the tech
- 37:02they need to be rolling out more stuff.
- 37:04So then I think they can slow down.
- 37:07The only thing I could say to that is that they're releasing
- 37:12patches like regularly and that that's wonderful, but they are
- 37:17also erasing things in between regularly and it's getting a
- 37:20little frustrating because it's like.
- 37:23That's alpha, baby. I know it's alpha, but you know,
- 37:26again, it's a living game that they're still charging people
- 37:28for and it's a small thing they can do to just fix that.
- 37:32And that's kind of the problem is that they're not fixing those
- 37:36basic things. And if they're going to
- 37:39accelerate the schedule like this, it's a quality of life
- 37:42issue. And I get it's an alpha, but
- 37:43when it's an alpha for another four years, you know it's a
- 37:47small thing they can do. It's gotten, it's gotten better
- 37:50over the year. And I think that it's a small
- 37:53price to pay for a temporary problem that we have.
- 37:58I think instead of taking time to like fix something that won't
- 38:01be a problem for the final game, they shouldn't say be like OK
- 38:04sometimes you have to redecorate your hanger, you know?
- 38:07Like it's not the worst thing in the world.
- 38:09But they're getting better with long term persistence and
- 38:11honestly, the more they break it, the easier they'll find the
- 38:17problems to fix it. But I mean, people losing ships,
- 38:21people lose. I mean people have lost people
- 38:23with Kolo, you know, Polaris's and not got them back.
- 38:28And they're and and, and it's a regular occurrence and that kind
- 38:32of brother. It's gotten better over the
- 38:34months and you know it, Sorry, but you know, it's alpha and I'm
- 38:40sure they're looking into it and I'm sure they're going to try to
- 38:42fix it, but avoiding it is not fixing it.
- 38:48Yeah, but they're, I mean, they're, they're not, I mean, at
- 38:51the, at the same time, they're, they're not going to fix it
- 38:54anytime soon. And that that's, that's, that's
- 38:56kind of the problem is that, that they're not releasing the
- 38:58patches to fix these things, even though it's a major
- 39:00concern. Well, they have a whole, they
- 39:03have a whole thread to like report like, Hey, let me know
- 39:06when you let me know when a ship goes missing.
- 39:09Like they're, they're actively asking people to be like, hey,
- 39:13help us, help us fix this. And so that when they roll out a
- 39:16new patch, it's hopefully a little bit closer to being fixed
- 39:20than it was last time. I love the optimism.
- 39:28I. I mean, what?
- 39:31What else going to have you know?
- 39:33No, I agree. Like we in like, you know, sit
- 39:37around and be like, oh, this game sucks.
- 39:38I can't believe like anyone would pay for this game.
- 39:41But then like, what the fuck are we doing here?
- 39:43I'm not, I'm not, I'm not saying that at all.
- 39:45I'm just saying that that increasing the amount of patches
- 39:49while, you know, hurting persistence stops players from
- 39:55coming back every day. And when the players that come
- 39:58back every day, those are the ones who buy things.
- 39:59Those are the ones who who, you know, want to engage more.
- 40:04And so when it's harder for them to be able to build a life in
- 40:08the game, when it's just, OK, well, we're just going to churn
- 40:12around and just kind of stand around and maybe run the new
- 40:15thing instead of actually have this experience that we were
- 40:19promised. It does.
- 40:21Tend to make people not want to buy the new ships it it's it
- 40:25hurts the funding of the project.
- 40:27It's kind of like. Showing that's not true.
- 40:30Their numbers of people are playing more.
- 40:32Often echo. Hold on, Echo, Go ahead.
- 40:35Yeah, their, their numbers are showing that people are playing
- 40:37more often and playing longer. So the stuff disappearing it to
- 40:42them might look like it's not a problem because people are
- 40:44playing more. I'm sure it's something they
- 40:48want to fix because I they know they have database issues, but
- 40:51the numbers are showing people are playing more and they're
- 40:53playing longer, so the stuff disappearing isn't affecting
- 40:56people's playing. While also maybe also playing
- 41:01those events I. Can see that.
- 41:02They had that economy survey or whatever and they're like, what
- 41:05kind of game types you like? And everyone's like, oh, I like
- 41:07the events. So they, they're doing more
- 41:09events. That's a response to that survey
- 41:11that we took like 9 months ago or whatever, right?
- 41:16So they focused on that instead of the repetitive kind of
- 41:19content. Yeah, I'm enjoying the content.
- 41:21I know a lot of people complain that it's, you know, it's an
- 41:24amusement park ride and stuff like that, but so far I've been
- 41:27enjoying it. Yeah, it's about finding the
- 41:32balance. Sorry.
- 41:34Broccoli. Go ahead.
- 41:37I was going to say it's about finding the balance because for
- 41:39so long it was us like trying to, you know, go into the game
- 41:42and make our own content, which is still a viable thing to do.
- 41:46But I think they're trying to help people along that want it,
- 41:50you know what I mean? Yeah, and there's, I mean,
- 41:54there's a lot to hold your hand with right now as well.
- 41:57I do. It's, it's how many times do you
- 41:59forget your key binds and this and that and how many times do
- 42:02they change? So to have like stuff that they
- 42:06know kind of works, like at a base level, like FPS stuff, the
- 42:11FPS just kind of works. So they can like, keep pushing
- 42:14that. Yeah.
- 42:17And then to touch on Citizen Con earlier, I know like 2 days
- 42:21versus 2 hours. Like I would have loved to see
- 42:23more, but I think what we wanted to see and what they're
- 42:30currently capable of working on and releasing are two different
- 42:33things. So we could have been really
- 42:36excited about two days and then pissed off we didn't see a lot
- 42:39of it. Or we'd be upset about two hours
- 42:42and then kind of excited when we see a lot of that.
- 42:47Oh so that would have been like 3 days of drinking.
- 42:50That's too much. I mean, I guess that's what I
- 42:52that's what I did, but it was too much.
- 42:56Three days of partying those two was.
- 42:58High. Sunday, it was messed up.
- 43:01Barely had time to even really watch the show so most of my
- 43:04enjoyment from Citizen Con was spending time with y'all.
- 43:11Yeah, I missed a good half of it.
- 43:12I was just hanging out, having a good time with people.
- 43:14Yeah, I think a lot of people were doing that and they were
- 43:16like chatting and stuff. After like the first hour, I
- 43:20noticed the second-half a lot of people were more chatty.
- 43:23Especially. Last with the that I can't
- 43:27remember his name. It was just talking about like,
- 43:30oh, what the hell is one point O changed?
- 43:33It's like, well, it hasn't since like, OK, all right, we're done.
- 43:36And then they just kept talking. They just kept talking.
- 43:38I was like, OK, all right. Yeah.
- 43:41That portion, I think a lot of people were just, they tuned out
- 43:44like they had already started losing folks by that point.
- 43:47And then it was just talking and talking.
- 43:50That was boring. Well, they'll know they'll
- 43:55they'll know What is the most re re watched part of this, which I
- 44:00imagine will be oh, here, here's a new thing.
- 44:03Well, you tell me if it's new, the planet guy, the land guy,
- 44:08the isn't he the the water guy? He's the grass guy now.
- 44:12He's the grass guy now. Yeah.
- 44:15So the, well, he was showing like at a distance how like how
- 44:21you're going to be able to see how it's going to be more alike
- 44:24at a distance. So you're not going to get that
- 44:25like popping that was new and that's welcome, yeah.
- 44:30Yeah, that was. Cool, right.
- 44:32And then the, the Cliff sides. Yeah, if it works.
- 44:35And then the Cliff sides, I mean, you're getting those.
- 44:40And that's like what? Like Damar's missing, you know?
- 44:43Planet tech is feature. That was the best part,
- 44:46honestly, is the planet tech that was the most new in a way,
- 44:51was actually seeing that 'cause we've heard for years about this
- 44:54fancy ass planet tech and seen very, very little of it.
- 44:58But now seeing it in action and like, wait, why can't we get
- 45:02that now? Give it.
- 45:02Give it to me now. Yeah, they shot some of it last
- 45:05year, but it was a lot more detailed this year.
- 45:07Yeah. Yeah, but have it not on the
- 45:09Nick's one. I have opinions on it being on
- 45:13Nick's one. Yeah, and I'm pretty upset about
- 45:16it, but. You and you and half of the
- 45:18spectrum. What's the issue with Nick's
- 45:22one? Yeah.
- 45:23What do we think about Nick? It was supposed to be a dead
- 45:27system, not have any life teaming in it.
- 45:30It was discovered during Project Firestar, which was like a big
- 45:34thing to push people to go colonize.
- 45:37Castro was found 40 years before that, and they spent a ton of
- 45:41money on terraforming it. But then there's like a paradise
- 45:46world right next to Castro that they find.
- 45:48And everyone's like, no, no, we can't settle this.
- 45:51It's, you know, it's Nick's like we can't do anything here.
- 45:55Doesn't make any sense. Unlearn that I, I could see that
- 46:00it's just I, I, if they introduce another like like it
- 46:05has to the success of Stanton is how lived and and and like it
- 46:12feels like like a whole different vibe.
- 46:15And I, I, I just think if they introduced another like, like
- 46:18if, if Nix was dead and it was just like just a couple little
- 46:23things and it felt kind of that that dingy vibe of, of, well,
- 46:28you know, the whole system is dead.
- 46:29Kind of like Pyro. I don't know.
- 46:31I, it, it, I, I don't know if, if they would have, if it would
- 46:37have been something worth doing at the moment, you know, they
- 46:41would have maybe gone with Castro.
- 46:43And I don't think they've got any of that ready at all.
- 46:47Yeah, that's. The same problem Pyro had was
- 46:49Pyro was supposed to be dead pretty much with very little
- 46:55going on except some pirates, and then they've kind of
- 46:57revitalized into this just lawless free for all.
- 47:04The thing is, Pyro makes pyro can still make sense like that,
- 47:08but they're being a paradise world that wasn't settled for
- 47:12500 years doesn't make sense in mix.
- 47:15Like there's a they're going to have to like, really the vandal
- 47:20are going. To be a real problem that's
- 47:22that's the only way they can make any sense to this is the
- 47:24vandal have to be a massive threat.
- 47:26Well, Echo, but I mean Caliban, Oberon, like Vega 2, like the
- 47:31the Vandal have always been a threat and people have still
- 47:33settled there. And yeah, but we found Nyx 100
- 47:38years before we met the Vandal. Although I do see on the intro
- 47:44screens there's a blurb an article about re terraforming
- 47:50systems, so maybe that's the end right there is that they just re
- 47:53terraformed it. Maybe that draws vandal
- 47:55attention, I don't know. I guess, but there's trees there
- 47:58that would have had to have been growing for like 10 or 15 years
- 48:01already, yeah. They got a, They got a Genesis
- 48:03device. Yeah.
- 48:05You know, they got, they got, they got, you know, they got
- 48:08that. And then, you know, we're going
- 48:09to find a Spock. It's going to be cool.
- 48:12You got to go collect. Them I don't know.
- 48:13I'm not, I'm not. I'm not entirely convinced that
- 48:17this is going to be anything good.
- 48:21Well as yeah, go for. It yeah, what what I mentioned
- 48:25last week is it that like something failed with the
- 48:28terraforming and everything's like bio incompatible.
- 48:31She can't eat any of the the, you know, stuff that grows
- 48:34there, you know, something like that where you just yes, it's
- 48:39it's a lush, it's beautiful, there's plants, there's animals,
- 48:42but you can't, you know, eat any of it.
- 48:44Sure. Yeah, it's like The Expanse.
- 48:48My gripe with that is that they try to like convey a certain,
- 48:54like CIG tries to convey a certain vibe and it's like a
- 48:56very peaceful there and they're showing as very peaceful kind of
- 49:00across the board. So it wouldn't make sense for it
- 49:04to not be like a peaceful paradise world.
- 49:09Well, it could be very nice and peaceful and beautiful.
- 49:11You just have to bring all your food in with you.
- 49:15Pack it out. And all your water and
- 49:17everything else. Maybe you can't breathe the air.
- 49:21Yeah, or that too. Quasi grazers are there, so we
- 49:24should be able to. I I'm not, I don't, I I don't
- 49:27I'm going to have a problem with it no matter what.
- 49:30I I, I, I I. Think, I think it's a it's a
- 49:32Genesis planet. And that's and that's probably
- 49:37the only thing I could think that they could do because
- 49:40otherwise doesn't, I mean, they could three different people
- 49:44like by the minute. So I don't know.
- 49:50That's true. We are under under estimating
- 49:55the powers that exist in this universe.
- 49:59You know, I was, I was I was actually playing Stellaris and I
- 50:02named a planet Nyx. It was in the Knicks wrath
- 50:04system and I was like perfect. And it was like this old relic
- 50:08dead world. But then I terraformed it and I
- 50:11turned it into this giant like city world, like Coruscant.
- 50:17And now it now it's one of my biggest worlds.
- 50:19So I'm just saying it could happen.
- 50:22You got too much free time on your hand.
- 50:23You should. You should turn it back and just
- 50:25smash moons into it like in the New Jedi Order series.
- 50:30Oh, it might. I might, I might get, I think I
- 50:33could get pretty violent this game, but we'll see.
- 50:36I've never, I've never, you know, it's one of those games
- 50:38like I've never won and each like I've been playing this game
- 50:43for weeks. Now never wins stalars you just
- 50:46keep playing it until you wipe out all the xenos.
- 50:49Oh my God, we play. Or get wiped out yourself
- 50:52because you're a xeno. I just tried to do science, you
- 50:55know? Yeah, I do that too.
- 50:57That's usually how my runs go is I speed from the tech tree and
- 51:00then a forgotten empire wakes up and stomps me.
- 51:04You just don't invent the Internet.
- 51:06It'll destroy your civilization. Yeah.
- 51:10So we have the the Vanduel coming in and I did some
- 51:13research into like van the Vandals.
- 51:16The the Vanduel are named after the Vandals.
- 51:19Yeah. Yeah.
- 51:20And I was like, alright, yeah, you got that.
- 51:22Some history. It's all ancient Rome, guys.
- 51:24Good job buddy. You know, you know why the
- 51:27Vandals went to Rome. Because they wanted to be
- 51:31Romans. No, they were chased out of
- 51:35their lands in in Poland and eastern Germany by the.
- 51:40By the replicators I mean the the Russians.
- 51:45Right. Is it?
- 51:45Is it gonna be the AI like the AI?
- 51:47Yeah, it's gonna be the yeah, it's always gonna be an AI
- 51:50enemy. It's the AI that humanity sent
- 51:52out and yeah, ship, you know, those colony ships never, never
- 51:56came back to us. It's going to be the Borg.
- 51:58It's, it's going to be the, the AI Borgified those people.
- 52:03And now they're coming back. It's going to be the revenge of,
- 52:09of Clippy. Clippy was sent out to space,
- 52:13encountered another space probe, an alien space probe, and then a
- 52:18whole race of, of, of things. Clicky was like, I see you're
- 52:23trying to destroy this civilization.
- 52:25Would you like to? Go back legally distinct Clippy.
- 52:28Clippy is aware of the hatred that humanity has for it and
- 52:32returns in like a mirror. Could see it could work.
- 52:38Wow. All right, totally.
- 52:45Brilliant, brilliant. Dude.
- 52:45You're not supposed to allow the the silences.
- 52:47It's a radio show. Yeah, I was.
- 52:50I was waiting on you. I thought you were going to add
- 52:51something really profound. No, I told you I lost my voice.
- 52:55Profound. I was going to say, what about
- 52:57engineering? What about it?
- 53:01What about it? I mean, we don't we don't need
- 53:02it. All right, so here's my we we
- 53:04don't need engineering, right? We don't need it for base
- 53:07building. We don't need it for crafting.
- 53:09They they can throw all those things in without it because
- 53:12we've got ships right now with no engineering.
- 53:14No, you need you need engineering for both of those
- 53:16things. Need an engineering for
- 53:18crafting? You need crafting for base
- 53:19building. Why?
- 53:20What do you What do you need it for?
- 53:22So you could have your entire fish collection mounted on the
- 53:25walls. So at at what?
- 53:28What what? What do you need?
- 53:30Engineering for for base building or.
- 53:32Crafting, you know, you, the way that you run your ship needs
- 53:35power, needs this, that. And the other thing, it's just a
- 53:39ship on the ground, you know, right?
- 53:43And like, your base could be powered by like, nothing.
- 53:46But then like, they've made it clear that they want it to be
- 53:50powered by something. And so you need engineering to
- 53:53power it. They've made it clear, but they
- 53:56also have already screwed around it.
- 53:58I mean, the crafting cube, whatever that they showed,
- 54:03right? It doesn't have to get plugged
- 54:05into anything. They're like, you can stick it
- 54:07on any ship, you can carry it in any cargo, you can put it on
- 54:10your elevator and use it. So all you need is a box of
- 54:13resource A and resource B, stick it in there and boom, crafting.
- 54:17We have the same crafting, right?
- 54:18Now I think that'll I think that'll be tech preview.
- 54:21I think once it hits live still maybe I could be.
- 54:23Wrong. But my point is that we don't
- 54:25need it. We should have it, it should be
- 54:28part of it and I'm sure it's part of the overall design.
- 54:31But they could give us some of this stuff earlier in, in the
- 54:34form that they have it right now.
- 54:36Yeah, I can see we don't need it for that in in the idealized
- 54:40version where your engineers, not only the person who puts out
- 54:43the fire on your ship, but also as a specialist, specialist at
- 54:49optimizing things, that's where that would come in.
- 54:52And then, you know, if you, if you specialize in like, I'm just
- 54:57going to make things like your, your engineer should be your
- 55:00crafter. It should really be almost the
- 55:03same profession. And they optimize your engines.
- 55:07That's what they're good at because they've done it 1000
- 55:09times. They know the tricks because
- 55:10they've ground, you know, all that experience of it just gets
- 55:14better results, better results with better materials.
- 55:17They should be able to do that in all aspects of making your
- 55:20base. They've got better power systems
- 55:23for you that you, that, you know, less fuel to maintain
- 55:26things like that. It's just, yeah, as you're
- 55:28saying right now, the way they're presenting it, it's just
- 55:31literally in and out. What's a simple equation rather
- 55:35than a profession, right? I don't think the next year, you
- 55:40know when they when they're done with with squadron, it's all
- 55:42going to come together. I think they're going to need a
- 55:45lot more like server meshing than what we have now, because I
- 55:49mean, we're jumping into new servers every time.
- 55:52And I think that's part of why base building isn't in and why I
- 55:55don't think it'll be in for a while.
- 55:57Yeah, wait, why? 'Cause we're in a new you, you
- 56:01jump into a new server every time, and who's to say that?
- 56:05Oh, I see. You and the other.
- 56:07People jump into a jump into a new Shard.
- 56:09I see what you mean. I thought you meant like
- 56:11traveling between servers and your Shard.
- 56:13Yeah, 'cause you know, 'cause that was the big question people
- 56:16tried to ask at Citizen Con in, in Manchester, right?
- 56:20Was like, well, what happens? I, I build a base on this little
- 56:24spot, you know, on Aberdeen, and then I go to a different Shard.
- 56:31Is, is my base still there? How does, how is that space
- 56:36protected from somebody else building on other shards?
- 56:41And I think, I think they'll solve that through selling land
- 56:46claims for real money. Yeah, You can only buy buy in
- 56:52your land claim. There's only one land claim.
- 56:53So if there's this Shard or whatever without that.
- 56:57Yep. Person there, it'll just be
- 56:59empty. I mean, I mean, obviously it'd
- 57:03be instance on the inside, but I, I, I do think that's, it
- 57:07could only look, I mean, this is how CIG makes $2 billion.
- 57:14Well, maybe, but I mean Continental Shards is probably
- 57:19better for that. You know, I just this this well,
- 57:28North America as a Shard. Oh, I see.
- 57:31OK. You know, EU is a Shard.
- 57:34You know, it's it's easier to maintain it that way.
- 57:37You get less complication and plus you have real time people
- 57:41going to the same place. But you still let people because
- 57:44I mean, like our, you know, the org that I'm in has people from
- 57:49North America and from Europe. I think it might have been
- 57:52Aussie or two. So were they no longer able to
- 57:55play with the org to build with the org, they could join the
- 57:59Shard that that org is on. I mean, it's it's similar to
- 58:02other Mmos, but the so you're not talking about locking them.
- 58:07No, no, no, I'm just talking about getting getting the amount
- 58:12of interaction. So if you have like, let let's
- 58:16say you're coming under attack on one of your shards, right?
- 58:19Right. Like, let's say, OK, your base
- 58:22exists in all parallel realities, let's call these
- 58:25shards a different universe, right?
- 58:28Parallel realities going on at the same time.
- 58:30You get attacked in one of them, right?
- 58:32And then you get attacked in another one.
- 58:34Like how do you respond to that? And, and you can't really have
- 58:39those interactions because they're existing in multiple
- 58:42dimensions at once while you're seeing both of them at the same
- 58:46time. It's it's just gets weird.
- 58:49You're saying base building is at least five years out?
- 58:54I'm. Yeah, I'm saying the
- 58:55infrastructure needs to make it more of a large living universe
- 58:59rather than splitting it up so small so everybody can, you
- 59:04know, I mean, it's just. Part of.
- 59:07The fact that everything is physicalized, there is a person
- 59:10in that ship, They're standing right there.
- 59:12I know that if I could bust open the door, I can get to them.
- 59:15You can't do that with the same concept of it being a space
- 59:19station that exists in all realities at once, Yeah.
- 59:25Right, unless everyone's on the same exact server somehow.
- 59:29Which I don't. 11 big replication layer, one big Shard
- 59:33and. I don't think we'll ever get
- 59:35there. Well, the dynamic the dynamic
- 59:39server meshing supposed to help with that should produce the
- 59:42number of shards and increase the player count.
- 59:44True. But just think of, I mean just
- 59:46think of the number of players. I mean, when you look at a game
- 59:48like like EVE Online, right? Well, yeah, everyone, everyone's
- 59:53there, they're in the same universe.
- 59:54But it's a much, I don't mean a simpler game in terms of the
- 59:58complexity of the game itself, but it's a simpler game on the
- 1:00:01servers. You know, anytime you've got an,
- 1:00:05an FPS, obviously the, the handling that character and the
- 1:00:10bullets and all their various interactions is more complicated
- 1:00:14than, you know, like a, a ship like an EVE that just kind of
- 1:00:19flies around, but it's not actually like.
- 1:00:23What's the word I'm trying to think of?
- 1:00:25Like the the way the ship is going doesn't really matter.
- 1:00:28Do you know what I'm saying? Like it's just something that's
- 1:00:31on your screen whereas all your interactions are separate from
- 1:00:34it. It's more of like an avatar,
- 1:00:36whereas in something like Star system where it's a SIM where
- 1:00:39you're, you know, you, you have to have you got 12 guys in a
- 1:00:43Valkyrie. You know, the server has to keep
- 1:00:45track of those 12 guys in a Valkyrie and keep them flying
- 1:00:49through a firefight and getting up and changing seats and
- 1:00:53getting into turrets and firing off those bullets and those
- 1:00:56bullets hitting the other ship, which also has guys in it.
- 1:01:00As much as I mean the dream right would be like everyone
- 1:01:03playing Star Citizen, at least you know everyone in in North
- 1:01:06America playing Star Citizen is on a single massive Shard.
- 1:01:12I mean, damn, we, we can't even get out of our hangar when, when
- 1:01:15there's 600 people, you know, we, you get a.
- 1:01:18Well, they're pushing it. They're getting better. 6
- 1:01:21hundred 630 people or something the other night.
- 1:01:25I I wanna, I hope, I hope we'll get it, but I don't see us
- 1:01:30sitting there with, you know, 200,000 players in One North
- 1:01:34America. It would be.
- 1:01:39So cool, but he'd be sitting in traffic for like an.
- 1:01:41Hour, let's say, let's say CIG, like they get I, I won't say
- 1:01:45anyone there is a genius. Maybe they're a genius, but they
- 1:01:47get lucky as as human beings get lucky.
- 1:01:49Someone makes an intuitive leap and they crack the code and all
- 1:01:53of a sudden, like they're able to have, you know, upwards of
- 1:01:57300,000 people on a single Shard playing this game.
- 1:02:01That would be fucking epic. But that's, that is the game
- 1:02:10that I want to play, and that's the game I was promised, at
- 1:02:13least in part. I would love to see we, we could
- 1:02:16get there, right? I, I, I hope that we can get
- 1:02:18there with the AI. You know, back when back when we
- 1:02:23used to hear from a certain man about a certain thing called
- 1:02:25quantum, there was this promise that there would be all these AI
- 1:02:30going around the verse doing jobs, flying ships, getting into
- 1:02:33fights. And it was going to be balanced
- 1:02:36by the fact that the server didn't have to.
- 1:02:39You don't have to render all that stuff all the time, right?
- 1:02:41It's happening on the back end in the replication layer or
- 1:02:44whatever. And it only has to actually be
- 1:02:47quote UN quote real when a player pops into the the object
- 1:02:52container, you know, now it has to be real.
- 1:02:55And that's something I'm definitely still waiting for.
- 1:02:58I mean, like, you know, our our org, you know, Red Scar doesn't
- 1:03:02like to really engage in in straight up piracy.
- 1:03:06But if it was, but if there was, if there was NPC orgs, you know,
- 1:03:10and we could be like, oh, you know, that's the, that's the
- 1:03:13nine. It's a nine tails convoy, right?
- 1:03:16We're going to, we're going to go F up that 99 tails convoy.
- 1:03:19Anytime we see it. That could be good because then,
- 1:03:22you know, you're not worried about hurting somebody else.
- 1:03:25You're not ruining somebody's game day, but you're still
- 1:03:27getting to engage in that gameplay.
- 1:03:29And I think that's something that having what was sort of
- 1:03:33promised with the the NPCS in the universe would be a big
- 1:03:37help. That's true.
- 1:03:40No, no, in a lot of depth. Yeah, I can see that.
- 1:03:44I I, I, But I mean, at the same time, I legitimately want to see
- 1:03:51piracy as a game loop that players engage in.
- 1:03:57I want to see the risk, you know, leaving it up 10 PCs and
- 1:04:02having all that having a Shard big enough where, man, you've
- 1:04:06got traffic everywhere and that makes you a vulnerable shipper,
- 1:04:10You know, I mean, that's, that's like real life there.
- 1:04:12There is that immersion right there.
- 1:04:14Whether or not someone's going to be a Dick about just wanting
- 1:04:17to grief rather than actually pirate.
- 1:04:19That's a whole different thing. And we'll think like if if we
- 1:04:22had like 200,000 players or something, right, Guaranteed
- 1:04:26people would start organizing convoys.
- 1:04:29Oh yeah, it'd have to right? It would happen.
- 1:04:32Yep. You'd be like, hey, you know,
- 1:04:33convoy heading out from Everest Harbor, you know, we're leaving
- 1:04:37at 1800 UTC. You know, this this guy, this
- 1:04:42guy and this guy will be point. And then we've got these ships
- 1:04:45in the back and then you got people signing off for security.
- 1:04:48And then it'd be, I mean, I'm going to get crazy because it
- 1:04:51comes the whole the whole thing about like, how do you tell a
- 1:04:54convoy is legit or not? How do you tell that people that
