1:37
Speaker 3: the Capital, it is Marshall University Day, Goherd, but it
1:42
Speaker 3: is also Cannabis Day at the Capitol. A good friend
1:46
Speaker 3: of mine says there's going to be a lot of
1:47
Speaker 3: green either way. So but Don Smith is a big
1:50
Speaker 3: proponent of cannabis and he's going to join us to
1:53
Speaker 3: talk about that a little bit later on the show. Plus,
1:55
Speaker 3: you may remember last Friday when I had doctor Casey
1:59
Speaker 3: Sachs of Bridge Valley the show, when she talked about
2:01
Speaker 3: getting a visit of sorts from a similar institution of
2:05
Speaker 3: higher learning. Similar to Bridge Valley in Ireland. It's kind
2:07
Speaker 3: of an exchange program. And I said in passing, you
2:11
Speaker 3: know doctor Sachs, we should try to get those folks
2:13
Speaker 3: on the on the air with us. And yesterday, lo
2:17
Speaker 3: and behold, I get a message from doctor Sacks and says, hey,
2:21
Speaker 3: we're coming by. So I'm gonna have with me a
2:24
Speaker 3: little bit later on some of these folks that are
2:26
Speaker 3: from Ireland that are in the States in kind of
2:29
Speaker 3: an exchange program with Bridge Valley Community and Technical College
2:33
Speaker 3: to talk about what they do, what they're what their
2:36
Speaker 3: impressions of West Virginia so far are. So we'll get
2:39
Speaker 3: to that. Plus, your calls and text are always welcome

2:49
Speaker 3: zero eight, want to welcome to the show. First, to
2:50
Speaker 3: start us off, it's a treasurer Larry Pack. Good morning, sir.
2:53
Speaker 3: How are you?
2:54
Speaker 6: Oh great, good morning? How are you today?
2:55
Speaker 3: I am doing fine. You get to hang out with
2:57
Speaker 3: the Irish folks upstairs.
2:58
Speaker 7: I saw the Irish people. Yes, hopefully we've got to
3:01
Speaker 7: see him again. But yes, fantastic.
3:02
Speaker 3: They're gonna be around the valley. I understand the I
3:05
Speaker 3: got their itinerary. Man, They're gonna be worn out by
3:07
Speaker 3: the end of the day.
3:08
Speaker 7: Yeah, I think. So we've got to say Patrick's Day.
3:10
Speaker 7: We got a lot going on. I'm an old baseball player.
3:13
Speaker 7: So March first is baseball season, so spring spring us here.
3:16
Speaker 3: Who's your a big league team?
3:18
Speaker 7: Big league team is always the Pirates, So it's life,
3:22
Speaker 7: you know. I grew up that way. And you talking
3:24
Speaker 7: to a Reds fan understaying, I understanding, how are the
3:28
Speaker 7: Pirates gonna do this year? Do you think, uh, we're
3:31
Speaker 7: gonna We're gonna show up?
3:32
Speaker 3: Okay, well, I mean with the Reds Ellie Day La
3:35
Speaker 3: Cruz may win the m v P, but I don't know.
3:37
Speaker 3: And we got a great manager now, but I don't
3:39
Speaker 3: know how far that's going to get it. So enough
3:42
Speaker 3: baseball talk, all right, and we'll talk about the Hope
3:44
Speaker 3: Scholarships in West Virginia. Uh application period is now under way,
3:48
Speaker 3: I believe, And for those who may not know, explain
3:51
Speaker 3: what the Hope Scholarship program is.
3:53
Speaker 7: So the Hope Scholarship Program is an educational savings program.
3:57
Speaker 7: Educational savings program where UH parents can choose an alternative
4:02
Speaker 7: form of education for their children other than public school.
4:05
Speaker 7: And if they choose an alternative form of education for
4:08
Speaker 7: other than public school, the state will give them some
4:10
Speaker 7: of their tax money back. It's about five thousand dollars
4:13
Speaker 7: a year to help with the cost of this alternative
4:16
Speaker 7: school situation. So parents like choice, they want they you know,
4:20
Speaker 7: they don't want one size fits all. So it's really
4:22
Speaker 7: working really well. You know, this is a nationwide thing
4:26
Speaker 7: where people want just different or different choices, different alternatives
4:31
Speaker 7: for their children. We started out about three years ago
4:34
Speaker 7: with this program about two thousand students. It's five thousand
4:38
Speaker 7: suits the year before. We're running about eleven thousand students currently,
4:42
Speaker 7: and we're expecting with a school year beginning in August,
4:45
Speaker 7: be somewhere around twenty thousand students that are taking advantage
4:47
Speaker 7: of this program.
4:48
Speaker 3: And as you said, and again we're talking to a
4:51
Speaker 3: treasury a lady pack, this is a this is a
4:53
Speaker 3: nationwide program that's really starting to take off, but particularly
4:56
Speaker 3: here in the Mountain State, more and more parents are
4:58
Speaker 3: for one reason or another and put you in the
5:00
Speaker 3: middle of all that. But for one reason or another,
5:02
Speaker 3: they're they're they're choosing choice, for lack of a better term.
5:04
Speaker 6: They're choosing choice.
5:05
Speaker 7: They you know, I have six to six kids, and
5:08
Speaker 7: they all had different needs when they went to school
5:10
Speaker 7: and had different issues and so forth. And you find
5:13
Speaker 7: out when you have six kids at one size does
5:15
Speaker 7: not fit off. Some fit better in this education environment
5:18
Speaker 7: versus that educational environment. So it's just really given parents
5:21
Speaker 7: the opportunity to make these choices for their children, for
5:24
Speaker 7: their students. So and there's a lot of different choices,
5:28
Speaker 7: a lot of different alternatives. So it's not just private schools.
5:30
Speaker 7: There's micro schools, there's homeschools, there's just lots of different
5:34
Speaker 7: there's online schools, so a lot of different opportunities out there.
5:37
Speaker 3: So it's not just and I think it's a great
5:39
Speaker 3: point that you brought up. This is not just what
5:41
Speaker 3: you think of when you think of, Okay, well it's
5:43
Speaker 3: private school or it's a parochial school, or whatever it
5:45
Speaker 3: could be for whatever other alternative school system that they
5:50
Speaker 3: that they want to use, be it online, be it charter,
5:52
Speaker 3: be it whatever.
5:53
Speaker 7: A lot of different models and a lot of different
5:55
Speaker 7: opportunities and ways to educate your children. And from a
5:58
Speaker 7: parent standpoint. You know, other than the faith journey, there's
6:01
Speaker 7: really nothing more important and important than they're at their education.
6:05
Speaker 7: And those are the things that parents worry about, I
6:07
Speaker 7: think prayer about more than anything else. So so these
6:10
Speaker 7: are not decisions parents make lightly. So when they make
6:14
Speaker 7: these decisions, they've really thoughtfully looked at what's best for
6:17
Speaker 7: their child.
6:18
Speaker 3: And look, I have known parents, as you alluded to,
6:21
Speaker 3: that may have two, three, four kids, and they all
6:25
Speaker 3: they all take in education in a different way. And
6:28
Speaker 3: for some you know, I've got one good friend of
6:30
Speaker 3: mine who has has a few young'uns as we say
6:32
Speaker 3: in southern West Virginia, and they and look, one of
6:34
Speaker 3: them thrived in a public school I absolutely did fantastic.
6:37
Speaker 3: The other one not so much. So she chose an
6:39
Speaker 3: alternative for those students. Yes, it's it's part of our
6:44
Speaker 3: cultures where we're at today. We like choice in most
6:47
Speaker 3: aspects of life. And this is not not any different.
6:50
Speaker 3: Talking to State Treasurer Larry Packed now and the scholarships,
6:54
Speaker 3: and again we're gonna and I understand you're gonna be
6:56
Speaker 3: out visiting a school today when you leave here, But
6:59
Speaker 3: the boships are open to any any student, right.
7:03
Speaker 7: So for this for this FISK year, this school year,
7:05
Speaker 7: it's opening up. It's opened up to new new students
7:08
Speaker 7: coming into system, okay, whether where they kindergarten, the first
7:10
Speaker 7: grade coming into the system. When we get to school
7:13
Speaker 7: year starting August of twenty six, then it's opened up
7:16
Speaker 7: to all school children, okay, no matter what what grades
7:19
Speaker 7: you're in, and you are going.
7:20
Speaker 3: To be out touring the school, the Vandalia Community School.
7:23
Speaker 7: I think, yes, it's my first opportunity to visit a
7:25
Speaker 7: micro school and so really excited about that, to see
7:28
Speaker 7: how it works, to to to talk to the powers
7:31
Speaker 7: that be there as to how it works, why they're
7:33
Speaker 7: doing what that model looks like this Again, this is
7:36
Speaker 7: one model that I just haven't had experience with. So
7:39
Speaker 7: we're excited to visit with them and see what we
7:41
Speaker 7: can do to support their efforts.
7:43
Speaker 3: And for those who may not know, because sometimes you
7:45
Speaker 3: get the definitions kind of get lost in what is
7:48
Speaker 3: a micro school?
7:49
Speaker 7: Micro school is is is probably a simplified way of
7:52
Speaker 7: looking at it. To me, would be a number of
7:55
Speaker 7: homeschool children that would come to the students that would
7:58
Speaker 7: come together into a micro school that wouldn't be licensed
8:02
Speaker 7: as a private school, so there'll have folks that will
8:05
Speaker 7: guide their progress and so forth, but won't necessarily be
8:08
Speaker 7: a teacher. So just thinking of it is a number
8:11
Speaker 7: of again homeschool students coming together in one setting so small,
8:15
Speaker 7: I think ten or fifteen students. But from that they're
8:19
Speaker 7: able to work together with these children and be able
8:22
Speaker 7: to get them to move move further faster. Sometimes it's
8:24
Speaker 7: just a parent that decides to run them, if you will,
8:27
Speaker 7: the micro school, but we're seeing those all around the state.
8:30
Speaker 7: Are definitely all around the country, So I look forward
8:32
Speaker 7: to visiting them and understand that model a little bit more.
8:36
Speaker 3: And where is this the Vandaelia Community School.
8:38
Speaker 6: It's in Charleston. I'm not sure the address.
8:41
Speaker 3: You'll find it here soon I will find it. Why
8:43
Speaker 3: you've got a guy out here?
8:44
Speaker 6: I got a guy.
8:45
Speaker 3: You got a guy over here, the Dave Allen showing
8:47
Speaker 3: five any life bright to you apart by your hometown
8:49
Speaker 3: baseball team, The Charles the Dirty Birds. A big season
8:52
Speaker 3: kickoff party happening over Atildmart Ballpark this Saturday noon to six.
8:55
Speaker 3: Get your season tickets them plus all kinds of giveaways,
8:58
Speaker 3: free many golf inflatables for the kids, ticks with Dusty
9:00
Speaker 3: the mascot did more. Visit dirty birds Baseball dot com
9:04
Speaker 3: or check out their Facebook page for more information. And again,
9:06
Speaker 3: everything there at the ballpark is free except for the food.
9:09
Speaker 3: You got to pay for that. But if you want
9:10
Speaker 3: to bring your kids out for the for the anything else,
9:13
Speaker 3: the inflatables or whatever over at the ballpark on Saturday,
9:16
Speaker 3: it is free. I'm going to ask you about this
9:18
Speaker 3: because it broke I guess late yesterday we have a
9:20
Speaker 3: story posted about a wv metronews dot com that some
9:24
Speaker 3: more revenue numbers came out. Let's talk about your former
9:27
Speaker 3: job for a moment. But at state treasurer obviously you
9:30
Speaker 3: have to watch those, but you were also a revenue
9:32
Speaker 3: secretary as well. You're taking on the numbers that came
9:35
Speaker 3: out yesterday.
9:35
Speaker 7: The federal the February numbers for the general fund for
9:39
Speaker 7: say West Junior, really really strong. We're up about almost
9:41
Speaker 7: thirty four million dollars over budget, so it was a
9:43
Speaker 7: really strong month. It was driven by severance taxes, driven
9:47
Speaker 7: by personal income taxes. So you know, we're marching long
9:51
Speaker 7: as we thought we would be, which would be one budget.
9:54
Speaker 7: We'll have probably two or three hundred million dollars budget
9:57
Speaker 7: surplus time we get finished, but our colomies wrong. People
10:00
Speaker 7: are working, and when people are working, they're paying lots
10:02
Speaker 7: of taxes.
10:03
Speaker 3: Did we and I know the last time you were
10:05
Speaker 3: on the show, you tried to offer a little bit
10:06
Speaker 3: of clarity and there seems to be maybe still some
10:09
Speaker 3: disagreement over whether we have a surplus or we have
10:12
Speaker 3: a deficit. I know that there's been it's kind of
10:14
Speaker 3: gone back and forth. You were holding true to what
10:16
Speaker 3: you said the last time you were here, though, right.
10:18
Speaker 6: Yes, we feel really good about it.
10:19
Speaker 7: So you know, currently we're probably about two hundred above
10:22
Speaker 7: with you if you take the money that we're not spending,
10:24
Speaker 7: so we're spending less than we budgeted. You take the
10:26
Speaker 7: sixty million that we're up, you take the once you
10:29
Speaker 7: take the lottery money, there's probably another hundred million dollars
10:31
Speaker 7: in there. So you add it all together, we're somewhere
10:33
Speaker 7: over two hundred and fifty currently surplus for the year.
10:36
Speaker 7: So we're having a really strong year. Really fortunate about that.
10:39
Speaker 7: There's always moving parts and things moving on. We have
10:42
Speaker 7: a we have a big government. We collect a lot
10:44
Speaker 7: of money from a lot of different sources and so
10:46
Speaker 7: sometimes those things can deviate, but having a strong severce
10:49
Speaker 7: tax number is a really good sign as far as
10:53
Speaker 7: the money coming into the state. When it comes to
10:57
Speaker 7: you know, the discussions going on in the capital as
11:00
Speaker 7: much anything, they're just about priorities. Some people think that
11:04
Speaker 7: we should be spending money on this, Some people think
11:06
Speaker 7: we should spend money on that. I believe that that
11:09
Speaker 7: stay washing is bringing plenty of money, lots of money,
11:12
Speaker 7: more than enough to do the things that state government
11:15
Speaker 7: has to do. The bigger disagreement, the bigger picture is
11:18
Speaker 7: is what does the state westioning you have to do?
11:21
Speaker 7: And I think the question we don't ask enough up
11:23
Speaker 7: into capital is do we really need to do this?
11:27
Speaker 7: And you know what I always found in the business
11:28
Speaker 7: world for forty years is that sometimes we'd get away
11:31
Speaker 7: from the core whatever is our business was supposed to do,
11:34
Speaker 7: whatever service we were providing, And when you get away
11:36
Speaker 7: from the core, you know, you start spend a lot
11:38
Speaker 7: of money on other things. But the other thing we
11:40
Speaker 7: noticed is when we got away from the core, we
11:42
Speaker 7: didn't do so good at the core things that we
11:44
Speaker 7: need to do. So so I think that's some of
11:46
Speaker 7: the discussions going on. Hopefully we can get more people
11:49
Speaker 7: start to start asking a question, is this necessary? Is
11:51
Speaker 7: this something only we can do? Can a private sector
11:54
Speaker 7: do better? Or just has our priorities changed when we
11:56
Speaker 7: started this program forty years ago.
11:58
Speaker 3: So Treasure Lady pack it's always a pleasure to have you.

Speaker 3: so the big corporations, the buddies of Trump, can buy
15:10
Speaker 3: up all the small competitors. Once complete, the tariffs will
15:13
Speaker 3: be removed, so these even larger companies can make even
15:16
Speaker 3: more money. It's a scam to centralize control and profits
15:19
Speaker 3: in the hands of a few. The magas are either
15:21
Speaker 3: complicit to ignorant of what's happening, or most likely both,
15:25
Speaker 3: Tech says. Pack says we will have a two hundred
15:29
Speaker 3: and fifty million dollars surplus. The governor says we have
15:31
Speaker 3: a four hundred million dollar deficit. This is a shocking
15:34
Speaker 3: level of disparity. Who is correct? You need to be
15:37
Speaker 3: talking about this more and see how the real numbers
15:39
Speaker 3: are going to shake out. Tex says one of the
15:43
Speaker 3: very few things Larry Pack is right about is the
15:44
Speaker 3: pirates will suck this year. According to a text, Tex
15:49
Speaker 3: says a faith journey is more important than learning to read, write,
15:52
Speaker 3: or do math. Lmao says the texture. Tex says that
15:56
Speaker 3: the Hope Scholarship program is supposed to return tax money
15:59
Speaker 3: to taxpayers right than week in public education, does the
16:02
Speaker 3: Hope program determine how much tax money the parents and
16:05
Speaker 3: guardians actually paid and determining the amount to give back
16:08
Speaker 3: as the scholarship. Tex says a micro school is a
16:12
Speaker 3: mini scam.
16:13
Speaker 6: All right.
16:14
Speaker 3: So last week you we recall in our discussion with
16:16
Speaker 3: doctor Casey Sacks a Bridge Valley, she talked about getting
16:19
Speaker 3: to visit sort sort of an exchange program with some
16:22
Speaker 3: folks from Ireland. I ask then on the air if
16:24
Speaker 3: we could arrange to have them stop by. They have
16:26
Speaker 3: a very very busy day of travel, and the good
16:28
Speaker 3: doctor made it happen. Doctor Casey Sachs, welcome in, Hi Dave,
16:33
Speaker 3: thanks for having us, and thank you for bringing all
16:35
Speaker 3: these folks here.
16:36
Speaker 10: Clearly we needed a field trip to the radio station.
16:38
Speaker 3: Yeah, well, I'm sorry that you couldn't have better looking
16:41
Speaker 3: people than me and Ron, you know, to have to visit.
16:43
Speaker 10: That's not true. I already told you you've lost weight,
16:45
Speaker 10: you're getting ready for TV.
16:48
Speaker 3: We're not talking about that. I'm not talking about that.
16:51
Speaker 3: Doctor Casey Sachs is here, and first of all, and
16:54
Speaker 3: I'm gonna talk to all these folks that are here
16:55
Speaker 3: in studio with us. We're going to have to share
16:57
Speaker 3: some microphones and so on and so on and so forth.
17:00
Speaker 3: But talk about this program, doctor Sachs. How did this
17:02
Speaker 3: whole think about? I know you mentioned a little bit
17:04
Speaker 3: on Friday, but talk about that.
17:05
Speaker 10: So we went into a partnership with Marshall University, really
17:08
Speaker 10: interested in learning from some of our colleagues about how
17:11
Speaker 10: do we do more workforce development, how do we talk
17:13
Speaker 10: about economic diversification. And so we worked with Marshall to
17:17
Speaker 10: write a grant so that we could do an exchange
17:19
Speaker 10: project with some colleagues from Ireland. And here's the result.
17:22
Speaker 3: Here are the colleagues. Here are the colleagues. Just meet
17:25
Speaker 3: some of the colleagues. Go ahead and just want to
17:27
Speaker 3: tell me. Tell me your name.
17:28
Speaker 11: I'm Patricia Burriarty. I'm head of School of Business and
17:31
Speaker 11: Humanities at Dundock Institute of Technology.
17:33
Speaker 3: Okay, and I'm sorry. We don't have enough mics to
17:35
Speaker 3: go around. You have to share, so one have you
17:37
Speaker 3: had something, You're all going to have it by the
17:38
Speaker 3: end of the day. So what's your name?
17:40
Speaker 12: My name is Connor Brady. I'm an archaeologist. I'm a
17:43
Speaker 12: lecturer in the Department of Humanities in Dundock.
17:46
Speaker 3: It okay, I'm good morning everyone.
17:48
Speaker 13: I'm Annalie Marghy. I'm the head of Department of Humanities
17:51
Speaker 13: at Dundalk Institute of Technology, and I'm also a historian.
17:55
Speaker 3: So had any of you been to America prior to
17:58
Speaker 3: this or more specially West Virginia and anybody been to
18:01
Speaker 3: West Virginia?
18:02
Speaker 13: Never to West Virginia, but to other parts of America?
18:05
Speaker 3: Okay, okay, So what's your over there? When did you
18:07
Speaker 3: get into town?
18:08
Speaker 13: We arrived in Charleston on Saturday night after our flights
18:12
Speaker 13: from Ireland via Washington, DC. So we've been in Charleston
18:16
Speaker 13: for probably half a day and we've been million hunting
18:19
Speaker 13: and since so I think we're all agreed. It's a
18:22
Speaker 13: beautiful and beautiful state and we've seen some wonderful sort
18:28
Speaker 13: of landscapes so far. The people have been really really
18:30
Speaker 13: warm and friendly and we've been really enjoying our state.
18:33
Speaker 3: Doctor Sachson I talked about last week about and then
18:35
Speaker 3: she's somebody that's actually visited Ireland. I think you said
18:38
Speaker 3: right and several times. And there are a lot of similarities,
18:42
Speaker 3: you know, between between Ireland and as far as the
18:45
Speaker 3: topography and everything else goes here, A lot of similarities.
18:50
Speaker 11: Yeah, so I suppose the first thing is moving away
18:53
Speaker 11: from the landscape is the people. They're so friendly. It's
18:56
Speaker 11: just like being at home. They're very chatty. We've noticed
18:59
Speaker 11: lots of similarities, and the Irish culture is embedded, and
19:04
Speaker 11: of course the links with Appalachia. So the first thing
19:08
Speaker 11: when we were walking around, we were seeing Irish flags
19:11
Speaker 11: and preparation for Saint Patrick's Day in March seventeenth, so
19:15
Speaker 11: we were delighted to see so much green. And we're
19:20
Speaker 11: still kind of getting used to being of interest to
19:23
Speaker 11: people stopping us on the street once they hear our
19:25
Speaker 11: accents and having a chat with us and asking us
19:27
Speaker 11: about Ireland. And so many have relations or have links
19:32
Speaker 11: to Ireland and through their family trees. So it's been
19:34
Speaker 11: really nice.
19:35
Speaker 3: And people saying you ain't from here, are you?
19:38
Speaker 9: That's exactly.
19:40
Speaker 3: I mean, that's pretty much the way it sounds. What
19:42
Speaker 3: about you? What about you, sir? Talk about your experiences
19:44
Speaker 3: in West Virginia so far? Oh, have you come a
19:47
Speaker 3: little bit closer.
19:48
Speaker 12: The scale of the place is amazing. Like Ireland is
19:49
Speaker 12: a fairly small place. We know most people locally. It's
19:53
Speaker 12: a very community based kind of a place.
19:56
Speaker 3: The distances are small.
19:57
Speaker 12: You can drive from one end of Ireland to the
19:59
Speaker 12: other eight hours or so at this stage, so that
20:03
Speaker 12: the vastness of the landscape is something else. We don't
20:05
Speaker 12: take internal flights in Ireland ever, so really you will
20:10
Speaker 12: very very rarely, so so that's something different, very different.
20:14
Speaker 12: The towns themselves are great as well, like they're so
20:17
Speaker 12: new and the the the buildings are are amazing. We
20:21
Speaker 12: don't have the same sort of architecture back home. Our
20:25
Speaker 12: buildings are older. I suppose the streets tend to be
20:28
Speaker 12: narrower because they're historic towns. You know, they go back,
20:31
Speaker 12: you know, eight hundred years, a lot of them, and
20:34
Speaker 12: so so that's quite different. That is striking. The streets
20:37
Speaker 12: are wide, and the cars are fantastic. I love the cars,
20:41
Speaker 12: Like my son is a petrol heade. That's what we
20:43
Speaker 12: call them, people who are into into their automobiles.
20:48
Speaker 3: Gearheads we would call them in America gear hearheads.
20:51
Speaker 12: I'll tell them that when I get home. But it's
20:53
Speaker 12: there's so much to see, it's it's so fantastic. And
20:55
Speaker 12: we're hearing a little bit about the tourism as well.
20:57
Speaker 12: In West Virginia, Whitewater raftings and sounds so exciting West Virginia.
21:02
Speaker 3: Really, I mean, folks are just now starting to realize
21:05
Speaker 3: what we have known here. There's so many, so many
21:08
Speaker 3: aspects of tourism that is wonderful in West Virginia, from
21:11
Speaker 3: the whitewater rafting to the mountain climbing and now we're
21:13
Speaker 3: getting into the ATVs and you know, the with the
21:17
Speaker 3: hatfil McCoy trail and whatever, and that's just that's just
21:20
Speaker 3: some of the things. I mean, anytime I complained about
21:22
Speaker 3: the weather, my good buddy who runs the Ski Association
21:25
Speaker 3: in West Virginia will send me a text and say, Hey,
21:27
Speaker 3: that's money, that's that's green, that's cash that's coming in here.
21:31
Speaker 3: Talk about any of you about the state of higher
21:34
Speaker 3: education in Ireland right now, what similarities do you have
21:37
Speaker 3: with the with what some of the universities be at Marshall,
21:40
Speaker 3: WV or certainly what doctor Sachs is doing out at
21:42
Speaker 3: Bridge Valley right now.
21:44
Speaker 11: So we see a huge amount of development at Marshall
21:47
Speaker 11: and also at Bridge Valley, and we've gone through a
21:51
Speaker 11: transformation I suppose in Ireland in the third level sector
21:55
Speaker 11: and higher education, so we would have had institutes of
21:58
Speaker 11: technology joined gathered to become technological universities in addition to
22:04
Speaker 11: the traditional university. So while there are probably less higher
22:10
Speaker 11: education institutes on paper, it's because they've joined together to
22:14
Speaker 11: become universities and increase and enhance their offering. We never
22:18
Speaker 11: get enough state funding. We're always finding interesting ways to
22:22
Speaker 11: try and grow and develop student and these collaborations, international
22:30
Speaker 11: collaborations are fantastic projects where we all learn. We see
22:34
Speaker 11: that the common issues we're facing right across the globe
22:38
Speaker 11: in offering third level education. So it's it's really interesting
22:43
Speaker 11: for us and we always try to find and learn
22:46
Speaker 11: from each other new ways of enhancing our programs and
22:49
Speaker 11: new ways of attracting funding. So it's it's really interesting
22:53
Speaker 11: to see what happens in other countries.
22:56
Speaker 10: Tell you a little bit more. This morning, we were
22:58
Speaker 10: talking about you're doing some industry training. Will you talk
23:00
Speaker 10: about that a little bit. I know that's something listeners
23:03
Speaker 10: are especially interested.
23:04
Speaker 11: Yes, we're very excited in DKIT because we've just received
23:09
Speaker 11: nine point seven million funding from the Peace Plus Fund,
23:14
Speaker 11: which is awarded to third level institutes along the border
23:19
Speaker 11: with Northern Ireland. So we will offer programs from three
23:24
Speaker 11: of our schools in our university. In my school it's
23:28
Speaker 11: the School of Business and Humanities. We will offer twenty
23:31
Speaker 11: IT and business programs to local industry. So we have
23:35
Speaker 11: about two and a half years to do that and
23:37
Speaker 11: that will enhance our numbers and it will grow the
23:40
Speaker 11: capacity within our region and hopefully attract foreign direct investment
23:45
Speaker 11: and new companies to the area.
23:47
Speaker 3: And after SAX, it sounds a lot like what we
23:49
Speaker 3: talk to you about and the other universities in the
23:52
Speaker 3: area as well. This is what we talk about about
23:55
Speaker 3: partnering with these businesses and listening to what business needs
23:58
Speaker 3: as opposed to just turning out totu udents. You guys
24:01
Speaker 3: do such a great job there. We talked about it
24:02
Speaker 3: last Friday of listening going to the businesses, being it
24:05
Speaker 3: like a toyota. I know you have a lot of
24:06
Speaker 3: you have a great partnership with them going and saying
24:09
Speaker 3: what is it that you need, And it sounds like
24:12
Speaker 3: that's exactly what they're doing over there as well.
24:13
Speaker 10: It's really a great way to help promote economic development
24:16
Speaker 10: in the community that you need to listen to the
24:18
Speaker 10: employers who are in that community and it's a terrific
24:21
Speaker 10: partnership they have going in Ireland and certainly something that
24:24
Speaker 10: if we can emulate it, we want to.

24:38
Speaker 3: So doctor Sachs, what is on the schedule for the
24:41
Speaker 3: rest of today?
24:42
Speaker 10: This? Oh gosh, So everyone will get to come out
24:44
Speaker 10: to Bridge Valley. They'll get to see all of the facilities.
24:46
Speaker 10: We'll talk a lot about our industry partnerships. They have
24:49
Speaker 10: doctor Jason Spencer here as their tour guide for the day,
24:53
Speaker 10: and so he's really a wealth of knowledge. He runs
24:55
Speaker 10: our Vex Robotics program, does a ton in the IT
24:58
Speaker 10: skilled trades training areas, and so we'll really be able
25:01
Speaker 10: to speak about some of those partnerships in IT and
25:04
Speaker 10: manufacturing and hopefully we have a really productive visit.
25:08
Speaker 3: Didn't take them to the capital today? Is that on
25:09
Speaker 3: the agenda?
25:10
Speaker 4: Is the Capital the agenda?
25:14
Speaker 3: How how long are you folks here?
25:15
Speaker 6: When you hit him back?
25:16
Speaker 13: We had New York tomorrow actually.
25:20
Speaker 3: Okay, okay, visiting colleges. We're here, okay, in New York and.
25:25
Speaker 13: New Jersey as well.
25:26
Speaker 3: There's none better than Bridge Valley, so you can you
25:29
Speaker 3: can stop now, you don't have to go to the
25:30
Speaker 3: rest time. Have you have you have you been able
25:33
Speaker 3: to uh and I'll ask you to serve. Have we
25:35
Speaker 3: been able to give them any true West Virginia culture yet?
25:38
Speaker 3: Have you been to Tutor's Biscuit World yet?
25:39
Speaker 6: Have they taken Okay? Okay, check that out because President
25:47
Speaker 6: of Obama was visiting.
25:48
Speaker 3: Because he pronounced it two doors. But that's okay, that's okay,
25:51
Speaker 3: it's okay. I Pepperoni roles, okay, all right, are you
25:59
Speaker 3: familiar with peppers? Pepperoni rolls are a West Virginia delicacy
26:03
Speaker 3: and they started out of the coal mines because when
26:06
Speaker 3: the miners would go this was like you know, turn
26:08
Speaker 3: of the century, eighteen hundreds to the nineteen hundreds, when
26:11
Speaker 3: the coal miners would go under ground, they had to
26:13
Speaker 3: have things that would wouldn't spoil. And so pepperoni rolls
26:17
Speaker 3: is just what the name implies. It's I'm explaining pepperoni roles. Hey,
26:23
Speaker 3: I can talk food, okay, And basically, it's just it's
26:27
Speaker 3: it's the bread with the pepperoni just stuffed in it,
26:30
Speaker 3: because pepperoni's already cured and God knows what's in it anyway,
26:32
Speaker 3: So it's gonna it's gonna it's gonna be able to
26:35
Speaker 3: stay good for like, you know, decades, probably, So we
26:38
Speaker 3: got to get them to tutors. Okay, we got it.
26:40
Speaker 3: Definitely got to get them to tutors. Hey, folks, I
26:42
Speaker 3: appreciate you you being here. I hope you enjoy your
26:45
Speaker 3: visit here in West Virginia after SAX. Thank you for
26:48
Speaker 3: putting this whole thing together. You got pretty good weather.
26:51
Speaker 3: Uh you know, it's gonna be like I was talking
26:53
Speaker 3: to the State Treasure it's gonna be seventy degrees today
26:56
Speaker 3: here in West Virginia, so you'll get to enjoy. I
26:59
Speaker 3: wish we really I'd love to have them come back
27:02
Speaker 3: in the autumn sometimes so they could see all the
27:03
Speaker 3: fall colors because right now it's kind of dead because
27:05
Speaker 3: we had to winter from hell here and it wasn't
27:08
Speaker 3: very good. But thank you so much for being here, folks.
27:11
Speaker 3: I appreciate it.

30:18
Speaker 3: things I know that's going on is Cannabis Day at
30:22
Speaker 3: the Capital. Don Smith is with us right now. Don,
30:24
Speaker 3: good morning to welcome to the show.
30:25
Speaker 16: Good morning and thanks so much for having me.
30:27
Speaker 3: This has been a lively show. We went from the
30:29
Speaker 3: State Treasurer talking about hope scholarships and budget numbers to
30:32
Speaker 3: a bunch of folks from Ireland and I'm explaining what
30:34
Speaker 3: pepperoni roles are to people from Ireland, and now here
30:37
Speaker 3: you come in and talk cannabis. So it's a well
30:40
Speaker 3: rounded show today, Don. So now, are you with a
30:43
Speaker 3: specific group, don Or?
30:46
Speaker 16: No, we are a pretty loose knit group we call
30:49
Speaker 16: the Inner Circle. Okay, I'm the CEO of Agricarb Electric Corporation,
30:54
Speaker 16: which we started to make camp Grafheene for advanced battery
30:59
Speaker 16: and solar pen technologies. But we've got that and several
31:04
Speaker 16: other little things going on right now. So very very
31:09
Speaker 16: interesting times for the development of the cannabis industry in
31:13
Speaker 16: the state. We're chomping at the bits and we're looking
31:17
Speaker 16: for money. We're looking for deals.
31:19
Speaker 3: And talk about the different things that you can do
31:22
Speaker 3: with the technology and what you do because automatically and look,
31:26
Speaker 3: I'm as guilty as anybody. People when you start talking
31:28
Speaker 3: about cannabis and you start talking about hemp and all
31:30
Speaker 3: of these things, and most people like myself don't even
31:33
Speaker 3: know the difference enough to talk about it in an
31:36
Speaker 3: intelligent way, right, But people think it's all about people
31:39
Speaker 3: getting hot, and that's nothing could be further from the
31:42
Speaker 3: truth exactly.
31:43
Speaker 16: That's the neat thing about the cannabis industry. It's been
31:47
Speaker 16: segmented into three distinct parts. Medical, which I mean it's
31:53
Speaker 16: been used as a medicine for zillions of years. Then
31:57
Speaker 16: you have the hip part, which is what we're involved
32:02
Speaker 16: with everything between fiber and seed again graphene and it's
32:08
Speaker 16: an excellent mop crop too. I wanted to show you this.
32:11
Speaker 16: These are two vials of concentrated or of rare earth elements.
32:17
Speaker 16: We grew some hemp and coal mine mid and we
32:21
Speaker 16: figured out two different ways to get the rare earth's
32:24
Speaker 16: out of the hemp Latin endo bottles of concentrated ore.
32:28
Speaker 16: And that's just the beginning. I mean, you look into
32:31
Speaker 16: the out west or making houses hand over fist with
32:36
Speaker 16: hemp crete, a blend of hemp herd fibers and line
32:43
Speaker 16: makes it up and the stuff is a superb building material.
32:47
Speaker 16: It's practically fireproof, bug proof, rodent proof, and it's been
32:52
Speaker 16: used for thousands of years and we just happen to
32:55
Speaker 16: have everything we need to make that kind of a product.
32:57
Speaker 16: Are now what we're aiming for with the hemp industry,
33:01
Speaker 16: and I'm looking for some serious money on this. We
33:06
Speaker 16: have to really start off with a customer, which we
33:09
Speaker 16: think we might have at least one whopper, and then
33:13
Speaker 16: reverse engineer all this to that seed going into the ground.
33:17
Speaker 16: So we're getting there.
33:18
Speaker 18: And.
33:20
Speaker 16: There's a multitude of avenues. I mean, hemp crete is
33:23
Speaker 16: one thing, HMP graphene, HIMP plastics here, paper and textiles,
33:28
Speaker 16: just on and on and on. It really is the
33:31
Speaker 16: most beneficial plant on earth now as far as getting
33:35
Speaker 16: up getting high on it, yep, that works that way.
33:39
Speaker 16: That's the medicinal part of it. So you know, it's
33:43
Speaker 16: it's just one of those things that this has had
33:45
Speaker 16: a bad rep for almost ninety years now, and we
33:49
Speaker 16: aim to change it.
33:52
Speaker 3: Why is it that you feel so passionately about this.
33:56
Speaker 16: That's a very good question. And whenever I can came
34:00
Speaker 16: back from overseas in the military, I started helping out
34:02
Speaker 16: on farms and see, you know, just throw a lot
34:06
Speaker 16: of bales of hay in the barn and I wound
34:08
Speaker 16: up having to go back into cells. But when my
34:11
Speaker 16: wife was afflicted with multiple sclerosis, it took me only
34:16
Speaker 16: about five minutes worth of research to figure that part out,
34:20
Speaker 16: and I decided to become politically involved at the Capitol.
34:23
Speaker 16: That's been about fourteen years ago, and oh boy, have
34:27
Speaker 16: things changed. We're in a lot better situation now. But
34:32
Speaker 16: that part led to more research, and the more research
34:37
Speaker 16: I've done, the more I have found that we are
34:39
Speaker 16: in a situation where the most beneficial plant on earth
34:45
Speaker 16: has been maligned, demonized, criminalized. It's completely unacceptable. How is
34:52
Speaker 16: it that a supposedly free American cannot grow, use prosper
34:58
Speaker 16: and enjoy the most beneficial plant on earth. Thomas Jefferson
35:04
Speaker 16: called it a gift of divine providence.
35:06
Speaker 3: I was going to say a lot of people think
35:07
Speaker 3: it was put here by God for a reason.
35:09
Speaker 16: Well, it is the most beneficial plant on earth, and
35:13
Speaker 16: the people in the faith based communities that are against it,
35:17
Speaker 16: I'd strongly urge they reconsider their position and reconcile it
35:21
Speaker 16: with Genesis. That's just all there is to it. We
35:25
Speaker 16: are dealing with the most beneficial plant on earth period.
35:30
Speaker 16: If you can find another plant more beneficial, let me know.
35:34
Speaker 16: But I can't find any.
35:36
Speaker 3: And there's so many again, and I have the text
35:38
Speaker 3: here and I'm going to go ahead and read it
35:39
Speaker 3: to you. And the reason I want to read this
35:41
Speaker 3: text is because I know it's something that you get
35:43
Speaker 3: all the time, and it's something that we kind of
35:45
Speaker 3: talked to the beginning of the segment. The text says
35:47
Speaker 3: West Virginia doesn't need to legalize weed. With all the
35:50
Speaker 3: addiction to other drugs and alcohol in the state, which
35:52
Speaker 3: has destroyed many lives in their families, West Virginia doesn't
35:56
Speaker 3: need this misery on its people. I read that from
36:00
Speaker 3: a texture, and I appreciate the texture for texting that in.
36:02
Speaker 3: But you get that a lot because they're only looking
36:05
Speaker 3: at one side of it. I gathered don exactly.
36:08
Speaker 16: They're only looking at the one side of it. And
36:10
Speaker 16: I will mention that jam Or research said, wherever weed
36:15
Speaker 16: is readily available, you have a whole lot less problems
36:18
Speaker 16: with these hard drugs. These people do not understand that
36:22
Speaker 16: the human body has a or an indo cannabinoid system.
36:27
Speaker 16: If the plant is made for us. We're made for
36:30
Speaker 16: the plant. Now, their little tirades are going on about
36:36
Speaker 16: people not being able to hold their liquor. You know
36:38
Speaker 16: that's I can appreciate that, But whenever it comes down
36:42
Speaker 16: to brass tacks, is that misconception worth all the money
36:48
Speaker 16: that we're spending on incarcerating and trying to keep the
36:52
Speaker 16: most beneficial plant on earth tamp down. I don't think so.
36:57
Speaker 16: If you look at the records, twenty four million Americans
37:02
Speaker 16: have run afoul of this law since thirty seven. That's
37:06
Speaker 16: enough to fill Super Bowl Stadium four hundred and sixty
37:09
Speaker 16: plus times for an aerial view of that. That's an
37:12
Speaker 16: awful lot of lives run not by the most benefitial
37:16
Speaker 16: plan on Earth, but by a misguided system that defies
37:21
Speaker 16: the very essence of the American Revolution and the natural order.
37:26
Speaker 16: Lots of money have been spent foolishly whenever we could
37:30
Speaker 16: be using this plant for a whole lot of other
37:32
Speaker 16: things too.
37:33
Speaker 3: And I will say this too. I got a lot
37:34
Speaker 3: of friends in law enforcement, and I don't know where
37:37
Speaker 3: they are and legalizing certain things, but they will tell
37:40
Speaker 3: you if they have to choose between dealing with someone
37:42
Speaker 3: who may have gotten high and someone who is drunk.
37:45
Speaker 3: They'll take the high person every time, do I mean,
37:48
Speaker 3: it's the worst thing they're going to do is say,
37:50
Speaker 3: can you stop by my local goal mark because I
37:52
Speaker 3: need some Captain crunch or somethingzza time. I'm just kind
37:56
Speaker 3: of stereotyppen there. I want to talk about that for
37:58
Speaker 3: a moment with the current makeup of the legislature, because again,
38:02
Speaker 3: we are a super duper red state, right not exactly
38:07
Speaker 3: beating the proverbial drum for cannabis, I would think, does
38:11
Speaker 3: that concern you with the makeup of the legislature.
38:13
Speaker 16: It always does, But again, urge people to understand that
38:18
Speaker 16: we have the entire high moral ground in all of this.
38:23
Speaker 16: We also come to town with money. At this point,
38:27
Speaker 16: we have proven producers in the industry and we can
38:32
Speaker 16: get this thing rolling. On the recreational part really quickly.
38:36
Speaker 16: AGHMP needs to have some of our rules and regulations
38:40
Speaker 16: smoothed over. We're very overregulated in that and it takes
38:44
Speaker 16: away from any degree of certainty we have in our
38:47
Speaker 16: business plans. So there's a lot of things to take
38:53
Speaker 16: into an account with the current makeup of the legislature.
38:57
Speaker 16: But you know, I've found that over the years. We
39:01
Speaker 16: pick our fights. We picked them wisely, and I am
39:06
Speaker 16: so proud of the people of Western Virginia. We are
39:09
Speaker 16: the only state in the Union that passed any kind
39:14
Speaker 16: of cannabis legislation without the help of the big DC
39:18
Speaker 16: cannabis lobbies. No matter who they are they come in.
39:21
Speaker 16: Take a look, take a look at the legislature. Well,
39:24
Speaker 16: you don't have it in you see, we did it.
39:27
Speaker 16: We did it all with grassroots and the gasoline money.
39:31
Speaker 16: It took for those of us in the inner circle
39:33
Speaker 16: to make it up to the Capitol. Took a long
39:35
Speaker 16: time to do, but we did it. We're the only
39:38
Speaker 16: ones in the country to do it. I'm so proud
39:42
Speaker 16: of this state's people for making a stand like this.
39:46
Speaker 16: It's a stand with nature and it's a stand with
39:50
Speaker 16: the very essence of democracy. We petition, We got.
39:54
Speaker 3: It, and I will say this too as a state.
39:58
Speaker 3: And look, there's nobody in the world more proud than
40:00
Speaker 3: of coal than I am. I'm from a coal background.
40:02
Speaker 3: My whole family was in the coal mining industry. But
40:06
Speaker 3: at some point, you know, we are the market is
40:09
Speaker 3: going to start to transition away from coal. May not
40:12
Speaker 3: be tomorrow, may not be five years from now, but
40:14
Speaker 3: it's going to be at some point we got to
40:16
Speaker 3: start looking at other things. You know, West Virginia started
40:20
Speaker 3: out as an agricultural state. That's what we were, and
40:23
Speaker 3: many parts of West Virginia still are the Eastern Panhandle
40:25
Speaker 3: things of that nature. But at some point we got
40:29
Speaker 3: to look to other stuff. And I was talking earlier
40:32
Speaker 3: with some of the folks about tourism, and Western tourism
40:34
Speaker 3: is wonderful, and I one hundred percent don support tourism. However,
40:40
Speaker 3: you got to look at the jobs that come along
40:42
Speaker 3: with the tourism. Yes, the people come here and they
40:44
Speaker 3: spend money, and that's all wonderful. We appreciate that. We've
40:48
Speaker 3: got to look at sustaining jobs. What you're talking about here,
40:51
Speaker 3: in my mind, is you're talking about an industry that
40:55
Speaker 3: could possibly if people we can get people to look
40:59
Speaker 3: at it and try to go get away from some
41:00
Speaker 3: of the stereotypes and the stigma. If you can get
41:03
Speaker 3: people to refocus on it, you're talking about an industry
41:07
Speaker 3: that could be as big as what the coal industry was,
41:10
Speaker 3: as the steel industry was, as all these industries.
41:13
Speaker 16: Right, And you've brought about an interesting perspective on this
41:18
Speaker 16: West Virginia's geographic position in the country lends itself to
41:24
Speaker 16: all of this. The entire state is located in a
41:28
Speaker 16: grow zone, meaning that the cannabis plant does quite well here.
41:32
Speaker 16: But we cannot outgrow our neighboring states with the flatlands
41:36
Speaker 16: and multiple acres of what I call long stock being produced.
41:45
Speaker 16: But we're along the rivers where along the railroads, and
41:50
Speaker 16: like I say, we're out looking for deals. We're wanting
41:53
Speaker 16: to put in the processing plants to take the vast
41:59
Speaker 16: fiber and the herd fiber apart, process the seeds, get
42:04
Speaker 16: that fiber properly set up and sold. But we're only
42:08
Speaker 16: an eight hour drive to sixty five percent of this
42:12
Speaker 16: nation's marketplace. And we're only a five hour drive, I
42:18
Speaker 16: believe it is to sixty percent. We're not that far
42:22
Speaker 16: out of the ports of Cleveland, Norfolk or Baltimore. So
42:26
Speaker 16: international trade is not even I mean it is quite possible.
42:34
Speaker 16: Now moving on to the coal industry. You know, like
42:38
Speaker 16: I say, I've got two little bottles of concentrated rare
42:41
Speaker 16: earth elements or hemp is a very good mop crop.
42:48
Speaker 16: It's a hyper accumulator. It draws up whatever's in the
42:51
Speaker 16: ground and its internal alchemy will break down these molecules
42:55
Speaker 16: into their constituent elements, which is very cool. Long story short,
43:01
Speaker 16: we can go to these zombie mines all over the
43:03
Speaker 16: state and gring them up and make them marketable properties. Again,
43:09
Speaker 16: they're dead investments right now, but we can change that.
43:14
Speaker 16: And it's just a matter of getting three words straight.
43:17
Speaker 16: It's all politics.
43:19
Speaker 3: And speaking of which, we got to let you go.
43:21
Speaker 3: I know you're heading over to the capital today. What
43:24
Speaker 3: if you could leave the listeners or the legislators, many
43:28
Speaker 3: of whom listen to this show, if you could leave
43:30
Speaker 3: them with a simple thirty seconds commercial, if you will
43:33
Speaker 3: for this industry, do it, Don.
43:36
Speaker 16: That's a very good one. I mean it's a multi
43:38
Speaker 16: fasceted perspective. But again, we are dealing with the most
43:44
Speaker 16: beneficial plant on earth. We are in that grow zone.
43:49
Speaker 16: We are strategically located to take advantage of this industry.
43:54
Speaker 6: Make it so.
43:56
Speaker 16: I'll help out any way I can.
43:57
Speaker 3: Don Smith, appreciate you being here, man, Thanks a lot.

47:11
Speaker 3: Texas cannabis, particularly with the high THHD content, can impair memory, attention,
47:16
Speaker 3: and decision making. There's a well established link between cannabis
47:19
Speaker 3: use and psychosis schizophrenia. Smoking cannabis delivers carcinogens like tar
47:24
Speaker 3: and other things similar to tobacco, raising risks of chronic
47:30
Speaker 3: bronchitis and lung damage. Cannabis use cost is deadly, impaired
47:34
Speaker 3: driving incidents. Workplace studies show higher absenteeism and lower productivity
47:38
Speaker 3: among regular users. Legal markets are also also strained public resources.
47:43
Speaker 3: Tax revenue from sales often gets offset by health care
47:46
Speaker 3: and enforcement cost. In Canada post twenty eighteen legalization, healthcare
47:51
Speaker 3: spending time to cannabis related issues rose sharply. Smart smoking
47:54
Speaker 3: pot is not smart. Smoking pot is stupid, It says
47:57
Speaker 3: a texture Texas. Never before have I heard someone speak
48:01
Speaker 3: more truth on this show. I think that was supposed
48:05
Speaker 3: to be a compliment.

48:24
Speaker 3: we talk about all the money a state could make
48:26
Speaker 3: legalizing pot. History tells us it will cost the state
48:29
Speaker 3: much more than it will make do to the addiction
48:32
Speaker 3: of the citizens. History again trying to play out, tex
48:36
Speaker 3: says Dave. West Virginia citizens have common sense and will
48:39
Speaker 3: not legalize this mind numbing plant. Says a Texter. Texas,
48:46
Speaker 3: do you think there will be a guest who's in
48:48
Speaker 3: West Virginia for a few days and won't be nice
48:51
Speaker 3: about their experience? Like, yeah, Dave, not a fan so far.
48:54
Speaker 3: I think I got a spinal cord compression factor from
48:57
Speaker 3: hitting a pothole on the way over here. Tex says,
49:01
Speaker 3: today's Christians are cherry pickers who use the Bibles to
49:07
Speaker 3: oppress their own world view. Texas, Republicans in the state
49:11
Speaker 3: are trying to force women and girls to give birth
49:13
Speaker 3: to rate babies and legalized marriage to minor girls. They
49:16
Speaker 3: are too busy for other revenue sources. As a texture Texas, Dave,
49:22
Speaker 3: I noticed that the things are going down. Stock market
49:24
Speaker 3: has went way down, So when are my egg and
49:26
Speaker 3: gas prices going to go down? Still waiting, says a
49:29
Speaker 3: text tex says Dave. Muskans to show respect to the
49:33
Speaker 3: president and put on a suit and stop wearing those
49:36
Speaker 3: dead man T shirts and hat says a Texter. Coming
49:40
Speaker 3: up on tomorrow's show, we'll talk some more under the
49:43
Speaker 3: dome stuff. Stephen Allan Adams from Ogden Newspapers will join
49:46
Speaker 3: us on the show tomorrow, Texas Dave. Great to hear
49:51
Speaker 3: the folks from Ireland on today. Love to hear their accent. Well,
49:53
Speaker 3: they said the same thing about us when they were here. Yeah,
49:56
Speaker 3: I ain't got no accent. What's talking about? You wouldn't
49:59
Speaker 3: be happy to know that. Thanks of a legislature, we
50:01
Speaker 3: now know what men and women are since apparently we
50:03
Speaker 3: saw the foster care crisis peia four hundred million dollar
50:07
Speaker 3: hole or not in the budget. We got this though.
50:10
Speaker 3: Brad has a story post to wv metronews dot com.
50:13
Speaker 3: The bill SB four fifty six. It passed the Senate
50:15
Speaker 3: thirty two to one with one absence, now goes to
50:19
Speaker 3: the House, which I'm told is working on their own bill.
50:22
Speaker 3: As Brad points out in his story, the bill literally
50:25
Speaker 3: called defining men and women and says a woman is
50:29
Speaker 3: an adult human of the female sex and a man
50:32
Speaker 3: is an adult human of the male sex. In quotes glad,
50:37
Speaker 3: we got that taken care of, and also, according to
50:40
Speaker 3: Brad's story, aims to define at to preserve single sex spaces,
50:44
Speaker 3: particularly in bathrooms, dorms, at domestic violent shelters.
50:47
Speaker 6: Now.
50:47
Speaker 3: Senator Joey Garcia out of Marion County was the only
50:50
Speaker 3: Senator to vote against the bill, saying it would hurt
50:53
Speaker 3: some of his words, his vulnerable neighbors. So people are
50:58
Speaker 3: going to applaud this and look, make no stake about it.
51:00
Speaker 3: I don't think women should be in men's sports or
51:03
Speaker 3: vice versa, or using each other's bathrooms, et cetera, et cetera,
51:06
Speaker 3: although I will say most Republicans have a strains fascination
51:09
Speaker 3: with bathrooms. What I don't get, my opinion, is because
51:16
Speaker 3: some national organization said this was a problem in West Virginia,
51:19
Speaker 3: which it's not. Our lawmakers are spending a whole lot
51:22
Speaker 3: of time on stuff like this when our foster system
51:25
Speaker 3: is in crisis, major problems with Peia not being sustainable
51:30
Speaker 3: foster care system. As I'm you know, kids staying in
51:32
Speaker 3: hotels and barns wherever else we can stick them. But
51:36
Speaker 3: what we are focusing on here blows my mind. And
51:40
Speaker 3: in the meantime, the leads story on the website this
51:43
Speaker 3: morning is a judge has now dismissed a big time
51:45
Speaker 3: lawsuit concerning foster kids, saying the truth fault with the
51:49
Speaker 3: broken system lives lives with his words. Elected leaders like
51:55
Speaker 3: the governor and the legislature. Now it doesn't mean necessarily
51:57
Speaker 3: this governor, but I mean the governor's office of a legislature.
52:01
Speaker 3: Six thousand kids are currently in state foster care custody.
52:05
Speaker 3: US History Judge Joseph Goodwin wrote in his memorandum on
52:09
Speaker 3: the case, the state government retains every tool to improve
52:11
Speaker 3: the foster care system, and elected officials are entrusted and
52:14
Speaker 3: obligated to do so, and if they fail, they could
52:16
Speaker 3: be thrown out of office. I hope that you're happy
52:19
Speaker 3: with the bill you got. Yay, And we still did
52:22
Speaker 3: nothing for foster care, not done a damn thing for
52:24
Speaker 3: business in this state. But that's just my opinion. All right,
52:27
Speaker 3: Gotta go heading to the Capitol. See you tomorrow. Till then,
52:30
Speaker 3: have fun. I love somebody. We're in Cdchsam ninty six
52:45
Speaker 3: point five.
52:45
Speaker 2: That then Charleston one O four point five Cross Lanes,
52:48
Speaker 2: WVRC Media Station.
52:51
Speaker 3: We are proud to live here too.
