- 0:09The great team over at record Tan surfacing, shout out to Tim
- 0:13Jordan and Mary Beth Price. They put on a speakers series, a
- 0:17coaches speaker series at the Penn Relays this year 2026.

- 0:24want to bring to all of you here listening on the Gill
- 0:27Connections podcast. So we've got all of the speakers
- 0:30and we've chopped them up to where their individuals will
- 0:32have the individual episodes. Again, grateful for record Tan.
- 0:35Go check them out. You know how to Google.
- 0:37So go check out Record Tan servicing and hope you enjoy the
- 0:40Gill 1918 Project. Welcome to the Gill 1918
- 0:43Project, a podcast series by coaches for coaches powered by
- 0:47Gill Athletics. Think of this as the Ted Talks
- 0:49of track and field coaching. Short, insightful and packed
- 0:52with valuable strategies to help you grow as a coach.
- 0:55We're bringing the once a year track clinic straight to your
- 0:57ears daily. Interested in creating your own
- 1:00episode? Everyone's welcome to
- 1:02participate. Check out the show notes below
- 1:03For more information. Now let's get into today's
- 1:06topic. I think the most pressing part
- 1:11that I would want to share relative to our relationship
- 1:15with our customers is it is a true partnership with our
- 1:18company. Our brand stands for that and we
- 1:22very much value every installation at every level to
- 1:26know how we can support the program and support the sport.
- 1:31The sport of track and field is very much important to us
- 1:34obviously as a supplier, but we don't want to just be your
- 1:38vendor or or installer or tract supplier.
- 1:41We want to be your partner very much so as as we move forward.
- 1:46The only other thing I'd add is that our jail series that is
- 1:50constantly being kind of brought up as we're having this series
- 1:53is not a new concept per SE. So I don't want you to think
- 1:57that this is something that is new to the marketplace and it's
- 2:01been around for almost a decade now.
- 2:03But it is getting more prominence, More people are
- 2:06beginning to understand that it is it is the innovation of the
- 2:10industry, as you all know that are in the industry.
- 2:14Track and field has not changed much over the years.
- 2:18And so this innovation is going to be able to take all of the
- 2:21worry of a hard track in terms of its safety relative to the
- 2:25athlete out of the equation and still have the application of
- 2:29being a track that you can run fast on.
- 2:32That is a game changer and we are super excited about it.
- 2:36But if you're thinking about buying a track or you're
- 2:38thinking about investing in it, I would say that that series is
- 2:42the innovation that will lead the marketplace and and will be
- 2:46prominent even more so than it is today.
- 2:50So without further ado, our next speaker is another professional
- 2:53athlete from on. This gentleman has run the 3000
- 2:58meters and 5000 is that. Correct.
- 3:01Yeah, I'm not a professional anymore.
- 3:02OK, well, that's OK. He's a professional anyway,
- 3:04right? He's coming up here and
- 3:05speaking. You're a professional in my room
- 3:09and I just am grateful for him to be here.
- 3:12I want to very much introduce Kevin Quidos.
- 3:15Did I? Get it right.
- 3:18Oh, you're good. Yeah.
- 3:23Everyone, thank you for coming out.
- 3:25I'd like to make it clear that I am not an Olympian or a medalist
- 3:28like our previous guests. I'm also not a coach, but I am
- 3:33the head of sprints here at on. As you guys are familiar with
- 3:37our brand, we're the sponsor here of Penn Relays.
- 3:40I'm willing to bet that most of you probably never heard of our
- 3:43brand about five years ago. We're only about 16 years old as
- 3:47a brand in total. We've been with the Penn Relays
- 3:50now for four years, I believe, and we're looking forward to the
- 3:54future, future sponsorships as well.
- 3:57So you guys, if you guys know our brand, you're probably
- 3:59familiar with our distance success.
- 4:02We've had multiple wins in major marathons.
- 4:05We had American record holder in the mile with yard and a goose.
- 4:09Helen O Beer is our marathoner. Hopefully she wins London this
- 4:12weekend. But with all the success that
- 4:14we've had on the distance side, we really thought it was time to
- 4:17break into sprints. We felt like our innovation and
- 4:21our drive to perform and help athletes out really bode well
- 4:24for us to get into the space. So I'd like to say we're doing
- 4:28so pretty nicely. We started in 2023 on the Sprint
- 4:32side where we had only two sprinters as professionals and
- 4:37they're wearing a prototype spike.
- 4:39And to be quite honest, it was it was a rough start, but we
- 4:42need to start somewhere. And now Fast forward a little
- 4:46bit, 2024, we had a few, a few more Olympians on the on the
- 4:49team and we had a spike that we thought was in a pretty good
- 4:52spot. And then Fast forward to last
- 4:55year, 2025, we were able to gain a couple medals at the World
- 4:58Championships. We were able to sign athletes
- 5:00like Bella Whitaker here. We were able to sign a lot of
- 5:04NIL athletes. We've really taken an NIL
- 5:06athlete approach to our sprints group.
- 5:08Just trying to start young, trying to start fresh, kind of
- 5:11work towards 2028 and 302032. We are able to not only win a
- 5:17few NCAA championships as well, but we had a couple relay, we
- 5:20had a gold medal in the relay, silver medal in the relay.
- 5:23We also had DD Kombungi who won the 100 meter hurdles last year
- 5:26at World Championships. So we had a ton of success, more
- 5:30success than we thought we were going to have in 2025.
- 5:33Fast forward to this year, I'm sure some of you guys have seen
- 5:36some of our spikes indoors now. Guys like Akeem Blake from
- 5:40Jamaica, one of the world champ running in the World
- 5:43Championships, indoor DD running well indoors.
- 5:46We had guys like Derek Kalen, the NCAA's break, the American
- 5:50record in the 200. So right now we have a really,
- 5:53really strong roster on the NIL side that we're hoping to
- 5:56convert to professional athletes.
- 5:59And just so you guys know as well a little bit more about us
- 6:02and the pen relays for most part, you know, our brand skewed
- 6:05a little bit older when we first started.
- 6:08We got into sprints to become a little more exciting, a little
- 6:10faster, a little younger. And that's really what this
- 6:13event embodies. We're really excited to kind of
- 6:16keep moving towards perfection. We're hoping to hopefully get a
- 6:19gold medal here in A10022028. That's the goal.
- 6:23You'll see a big announcement from us for us coming up in the
- 6:26next month or so. We're signing quite a few more
- 6:30athletes this year. Our professional roster is now
- 6:32up to about 13, though it's not a huge number.
- 6:36But we're we're quite elite. We try to keep things small, try
- 6:38to keep things elite. All of our athletes we feel like
- 6:41can win medals. You'll see one of our 400 guys
- 6:44out here running tomorrow, Genoa McKeever, former Florida guy.
- 6:49But yeah, ultimately, you know, really trying to push forward.
- 6:52I know we've had a lot of coaches come by our boots down
- 6:55here asking for when the spikes are going to be available.
- 6:58Our Sprint spike V, which is what Bella has worn, what she
- 7:01she won her gold medal, the relay in what DD won the 100m
- 7:05hurdles in at World Championships.
- 7:07That's fight. That Sprint spike actually was
- 7:10for sale on our website, sold out very, very fast.
- 7:13You'll you probably saw, I don't know if you guys are watching
- 7:15the Excelsior guys from Jamaica. They all wore it this weekend
- 7:18and the relay. So it's tested extremely well
- 7:21from all the way from the 60 where Lisa Bray broke down the
- 7:2360, the 60 meters last year indoors, high school record, all
- 7:27the way to the 400 meters where guys like Nathaniel Ezekiel got
- 7:314th place last year World Championships in the 400
- 7:34hurdles. So it's a great spike.
- 7:36We have a few new spikes that are coming.
- 7:39A lot of our athletes are testing those spikes out now,
- 7:41trying to perfect them. So Please be patient, but we'd
- 7:45like to think we're making some of the best products in the
- 7:47world. As you guys might be able to
- 7:49tell, a lot of the athletes we're working with have come
- 7:51from other brands, whether it be Puma, Adidas, Nike from their
- 7:55schools and college. And be honestly, the the
- 7:58transition couldn't have gone better for a lot of these
- 8:00athletes. Some of the athletes are testing
- 8:02it much better in our product, which we're super excited about,
- 8:05but we're really on, you know, trying to strive to make sort of
- 8:08the best Sprint spike in the world.
- 8:10We're trying to use as much technology as we can into it
- 8:13based on what World Athletics will let us use.
- 8:15But we've done already 3 rounds of testing on the new products.
- 8:18We're working a lot with a lot of bio mechanics, a lot of
- 8:20engineers. So we're super excited about it.
- 8:23But Needless to say, you're going to see a lot more product
- 8:25from us on the Sprint side coming out in the next year or
- 8:27so. So we're excited to hopefully
- 8:29roll it out here next year and hopefully you'll see a lot more
- 8:32athletes out here on the track, you know, wearing it next year
- 8:35at all the way from the high school level to the professional
- 8:37level. We're also hoping to make this
- 8:40stage a little bit bigger for our professional athletes in the
- 8:42100 and the 200. You guys probably know on the
- 8:45Olympic development side, we this year the lowest event was
- 8:48the 400, but we're working with the Penn Relay staff to
- 8:51hopefully bring some more entertainment to this meet next
- 8:53year and be able to showcase some of our best athletes in the
- 8:56world to give you guys a little bit more, you know, background
- 9:00on some of the other athletes that we do sponsor.
- 9:03I'm not sure if you guys tuned into either the Florida Relays
- 9:07or Tom Jones, but guys like Max Thomas ran 990 at at Florida
- 9:11Relays, almost beat no allows at Tom Jones last week.
- 9:15He's actually out here signing autographs today.
- 9:17He's heading out for World Relays on Saturday or tomorrow
- 9:20night, as well as Samira Moody, former NCAA champion, got, you
- 9:25know, obviously brought out Bella here and Johnny Brackens,
- 9:28who's also AUS champion. So we're really excited to be
- 9:32working with some amazing athletes.
- 9:33We're hoping the roster continues to grow.
- 9:35And like I said, we're hoping to be able to bring a bit more of
- 9:38the professional flair to this meet next year.
- 9:40So yeah, happy to answer any questions anyone has.
- 9:43And yeah, we're excited that you guys are all came out to hear us
- 9:46speak today. Thank you.
- 9:48If I was to buy a shoe, what? Would I buy?
- 10:03It's a good question, honestly, you know, I'm biased.
- 10:06I get paid for the company, but I do think, you know, our our
- 10:10attention to detail and quality is, you know, far surpasses what
- 10:13you'll see at typical most stores.
- 10:15I'd, you know, ask everyone of you guys to go check, check out.
- 10:18We have two booths, one in the athletes zone and the mix zone
- 10:21and athlete warm up zone, as well as the carnival area just
- 10:24outside here. I think you can immediately feel
- 10:27it when you put it on. It just fits different, feels
- 10:29different. I actually came from another
- 10:30shoe brand for the last 10 years.
- 10:33Not going to lie to you, I was pretty skeptical 4 years ago
- 10:35when I started here. But the to see the success that
- 10:38we've had that doesn't come with just having good athletes.
- 10:41That has to come with having good products.
- 10:44To give you guys a quick antidote, we are the fastest
- 10:47growing athletic brands in history.
- 10:50Give you guys a quick tidbit and I won't get into numbers on our
- 10:52stock price and all that stuff, but in 2021 we had 9 Olympians.
- 10:57Not a single one was running our spike because we didn't have a
- 10:59super spike at the time. Fast forward three years later,
- 11:022024, we had 65 Olympians and we ended up walking away with seven
- 11:06medals. So I don't think any brand
- 11:08history has been able to claim that.
- 11:10And we're hoping to take continue to take market share
- 11:13leading up to 2028. And like I said, that leaves
- 11:16that starts with having a good product and then followed up by
- 11:19amazing athletes such as Bella back there.
- 11:21Thank you guys. Hey gang, Mike Cunningham here.
