- 0:07Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Schrager is a production of the
- 0:09Speaker 1: NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio. What's Up, Everybody, Welcome to
- 0:24Speaker 1: the Season with Peter Schreger. I am Peter Schreger. You
- 0:28Speaker 1: might see me on Good Morning Football in the mornings.
- 0:31Speaker 1: You might see me on Fox NFL Kickoff on Sundays.
- 0:34Speaker 1: If my voice is a little hoarse, it's because it's
- 0:37Speaker 1: been a wild few days. Sunday we were we did
- 0:42Speaker 1: the Fox NFL Kickoff Show. We had the best episode
- 0:44Speaker 1: of the season. It's myself, it's Julian Edelman, Michael Vick,
- 0:49Speaker 1: Charles Woodson, and Chris Thompson. We have a blast. And
- 0:51Speaker 1: then I had never been to a Chargers home game,
- 0:55Speaker 1: and I was sticking around LA to do Good Morning Football.
- 0:58Speaker 1: So I went to Chargers Chiefs in person, and I'm
- 1:02Speaker 1: telling you, three quarters into that game, that felt like
- 1:06Speaker 1: a chart victory. And then, like they do, the Chiefs
- 1:09Speaker 1: snatch it at the last second. But I came away
- 1:13Speaker 1: just amazed, amazed by Steve Spagnolo's defense. And I think
- 1:20Speaker 1: we're a month into the season and I have so
- 1:22Speaker 1: many observations based on what we thought the first week.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Then it changes the second week, then we overreact the
- 1:28Speaker 1: third week and one of the fourth week. I've been
- 1:29Speaker 1: doing this long enough where I think October is really
- 1:33Speaker 1: where we start to see the best teams in football
- 1:36Speaker 1: more importantly, you don't want to peak week one, week two,
- 1:41Speaker 1: week three. Things start to settle and things start to
- 1:45Speaker 1: show themselves more in October. For example, this Chiefs team,
- 1:50Speaker 1: we knew they were going to be down a bunch
- 1:51Speaker 1: of weapons once you saw Hollywood Brown got hurt and
- 1:54Speaker 1: Isaiah Pacheco got hurt. Now you lose Rashi Rice, which
- 1:57Speaker 1: at the end of the day on Tuesday was like,
- 1:59Speaker 1: you know, it might be a little better the next way,
- 2:01Speaker 1: he's gonna be out. He's gonna be out for a
- 2:03Speaker 1: long time. The Chiefs rolled out there Carson Steele as
- 2:07Speaker 1: their number one running back.
- 2:08Speaker 2: He fumbled.
- 2:08Speaker 1: They didn't give him the ball again. So now it's
- 2:10Speaker 1: Kareem Hunt, samaj p Ryan to aging veteran running backs.
- 2:16Speaker 1: It's a rookie Xavier Worthy who had three catches and
- 2:20Speaker 1: the big touchdown, and that's great, but I don't know
- 2:22Speaker 1: if he's gonna get the load. It's gonna be an
- 2:23Speaker 1: aging Travis Kelce. It's Noah great it's justin Watson, it's Skymore,
- 2:27Speaker 1: who you could tell the team is just is just
- 2:30Speaker 1: beyond frustrated with and it's like, all right, Chiefs, four
- 2:35Speaker 1: weeks into this season, how are we gonna win games?
- 2:37Speaker 1: Their defense? The defense is awesome. Herbert's out there and
- 2:42Speaker 1: he's dealing to McConkie the first few drives and then
- 2:44Speaker 1: it just completely stops. And you see what the Chiefs do,
- 2:48Speaker 1: and it's McDuffie coming in off a zero blitz off
- 2:51Speaker 1: the corner spot. You see Chris Jones just absolutely annihiling
- 2:56Speaker 1: people in defensive line. Teams change, Teams change because they
- 2:59Speaker 1: have to cheats adapt. The Chiefs might go and get
- 3:02Speaker 1: make a big swing and make a trade and get
- 3:04Speaker 1: another wide receiver. Great, that'll keep them a float. But
- 3:07Speaker 1: if the Chiefs are gonna do it again this year
- 3:09Speaker 1: and they're gonna win three in a row, it's gonna
- 3:11Speaker 1: be based on their defense, and it's gonna be based
- 3:13Speaker 1: on Andy Reid's ingenuity on offense, and it's gonna be
- 3:16Speaker 1: based on mahomes Is finding a way they're not gonna
- 3:19Speaker 1: score thirty and forty points in games, not with the
- 3:21Speaker 1: offense that they have, and not how that team is
- 3:23Speaker 1: built right now. But they will stop you and they
- 3:25Speaker 1: will hold you under twenty. And if that's the case,
- 3:27Speaker 1: they can win October. This is where we start to
- 3:31Speaker 1: see these teams come together the Chiefs. That's what I
- 3:33Speaker 1: think is going to have to take for them to
- 3:35Speaker 1: do this. And I know it's just one month in,
- 3:36Speaker 1: but you're gonna see there's gonna be a lot of
- 3:39Speaker 1: inks billed on what's wrong with with Mahomes, what's wrong
- 3:41Speaker 1: with Kelsey. It's already started. But as long as they
- 3:44Speaker 1: keep winning and they get that home field advantage in
- 3:46Speaker 1: Kansas City, or at least get a couple of those
- 3:48Speaker 1: games in Kansas City in the playoffs, they'll be there
- 3:50Speaker 1: at the end. I look at the Baltimore Ravens. Everyone
- 3:53Speaker 1: picked them to either go to the Super Bowl or
- 3:55Speaker 1: win the AFC North. Two weeks into the season, there
- 3:58Speaker 1: is masssteria, tough loss Week one, and then you know,
- 4:01Speaker 1: bone crushing, soul crushing last week two. Well what happens
- 4:04Speaker 1: week three? Mixed results. They go into DA they get
- 4:07Speaker 1: a big lead, but they almost give it up. And
- 4:09Speaker 1: then finally week four, week four, they start showing what
- 4:12Speaker 1: they can be. A one hundred ninety nine yard game
- 4:16Speaker 1: from Derrick Henry and eighty seven yard run from the start,
- 4:19Speaker 1: a defense that was just swarming Josh Allen. The Bills
- 4:21Speaker 1: came into this game averaging thirty seven points a game.
- 4:25Speaker 1: They were held at ten, and their defense was all
- 4:28Speaker 1: over those receivers and in such a way where you're like, oh,
- 4:31Speaker 1: Kyle Hamilton might be one of the best defensive players
- 4:34Speaker 1: in football. Oh ro Qwan Smith's one of the best
- 4:36Speaker 1: linebackers of football. Oh Nate Wiggins is a rookie that
- 4:38Speaker 1: they expect a lot out of it, and he played well.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Here's what I'm telling about this. It takes some time.
- 4:43Speaker 1: They lost three offensive linemen this offseason that were very
- 4:46Speaker 1: key parts to their offense last year. They have three
- 4:48Speaker 1: guys replacing them. Takes some time. They lost their defensive coordinator,
- 4:52Speaker 1: Mike McDonald, They lost Geno Stone, they lost Patrick Queen.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Those were leaders on the team. It takes some time.
- 4:59Speaker 1: October this is where we start to see these guys
- 5:02Speaker 1: who's going to be coming through. I look at the
- 5:03Speaker 1: Lions offense weird first few weeks. Weird in that they
- 5:07Speaker 1: were winning games, but that went against the Rams.
- 5:10Speaker 2: The offense was like all right.
- 5:11Speaker 1: We just had to run the ball with David Montgomery
- 5:13Speaker 1: down the stretch, and we'll just lean on that. That's
- 5:15Speaker 1: not the Ben Johnson offense. It's usually so innovative and different.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Week two, bad loss, Week three they squeeze by Arizona
- 5:24Speaker 1: and the offenses. And then week four, October's here. We
- 5:28Speaker 1: know that's the offense. But we saw on Week four
- 5:31Speaker 1: against the Seahawks that's the offense. October is where we're
- 5:36Speaker 1: gonna find out a lot about that teams. And I
- 5:38Speaker 1: look at the New York Jets and they might be
- 5:40Speaker 1: the most paramount on the list. Let's see, this is it.
- 5:45Speaker 1: We knew things were going to go through some rough
- 5:47Speaker 1: times at some point. Well you know, I picked them
- 5:49Speaker 1: to be the number one seed in the AFC. I
- 5:51Speaker 1: have Aaron Rodgers is my MVP. After that Patriots game
- 5:54Speaker 1: week three, I felt pretty good. I was puffing my
- 5:56Speaker 1: chest out. After Week four, it's right back down to
- 5:59Speaker 1: the to the doldrums. And if you look at what
- 6:02Speaker 1: they have up ahead, it's the Vikings. This Sunday in
- 6:06Speaker 1: a Week four game in London, they're flying over there,
- 6:10Speaker 1: and it's more than just you know, can we get
- 6:12Speaker 1: the win? Fine? You beat Sam Darnold. Great, you find
- 6:15Speaker 1: a way you're three and two cool that keeps the press,
- 6:18Speaker 1: you know, at Bay for a little bit. But already
- 6:22Speaker 1: Robert Salo has asked about the cadence, and he's talking
- 6:25Speaker 1: about cadence and he's talking about, you know, Aaron Rodgers
- 6:28Speaker 1: trying to draw guys off sides and false start out
- 6:32Speaker 1: of your typical comfort zone as a defensive head coach.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Is he allowed to talk about it? Sure, he's the
- 6:38Speaker 1: head coach. Then they go to Rogers and Rogers immediately
- 6:42Speaker 1: it's like, how about we just hold guys accountable. We've
- 6:44Speaker 1: had one false start the whole year. That's what I've
- 6:46Speaker 1: been doing doing for twenty years. Then they go back
- 6:48Speaker 1: to sala On on Monday. He's got comments on it
- 6:51Speaker 1: where he kind of backtracks a little bit. Look, this
- 6:54Speaker 1: is the stuff, this is the stuff. Stay stay, stay
- 6:58Speaker 1: in your pocket, stay in your lane. Do not start
- 7:01Speaker 1: speaking out of school, do not spart speaking out, don't
- 7:03Speaker 1: try to say things that you don't necessarily feel comfortable with.
- 7:06Speaker 1: This is the stuff. Where Rogers is a twenty year veteran,
- 7:09Speaker 1: four time MVP. Let him handle the cadence. Let him
- 7:11Speaker 1: do what it is now what I've been trying to
- 7:13Speaker 1: draw guys off sides in the red zone. I don't
- 7:15Speaker 1: know if that's necessary. There's a far greater danger to
- 7:19Speaker 1: having a false start and knocking yourself back than it
- 7:21Speaker 1: is getting an extra a couple of yards in the
- 7:23Speaker 1: red zone when you're already within the ten. That said,
- 7:27Speaker 1: Garrett Wilson comes out. He had some comments when he
- 7:29Speaker 1: was talking to the media in the big context, is
- 7:31Speaker 1: not as bad as what was clipped out. All this
- 7:33Speaker 1: stuff matters. Now you go to London, how do you
- 7:37Speaker 1: stay together? Because the New York media is not the
- 7:40Speaker 1: Jacksonville media, The New York media is not the Minnesota media.
- 7:46Speaker 1: The New York media is not necessarily the Arizona media.
- 7:49Speaker 1: This is one where if they see any blood, or
- 7:52Speaker 1: they see a scrape, if they see even a window,
- 7:55Speaker 1: they'll pounce. And how do you stay together with that?
- 7:57Speaker 1: How do you stay together that and not start responding
- 8:00Speaker 1: to that and looking at each other and saying, wait,
- 8:02Speaker 1: well you said what, why'd you say that? Why wouldn't
- 8:04Speaker 1: you say that? Can't do it, can't do it.
- 8:06Speaker 2: It's too soon.
- 8:07Speaker 1: October key month, really key month. If the Jets start
- 8:11Speaker 1: losing games, This could be real bad. They need to
- 8:14Speaker 1: find a way to get a couple of these wins.
- 8:16Speaker 1: Coming up, we have an awesome guest today and it's
- 8:20Speaker 1: a perfect time to have this guest. This guest just
- 8:25Speaker 1: I don't know if it's the exclusive breaking news. This
- 8:27Speaker 1: guest just got back from Washington, DC because he sat
- 8:29Speaker 1: down with a guy who he's being compared to, and
- 8:34Speaker 1: that guy's being compared to him. We're gonna have Michael
- 8:36Speaker 1: Vick on and he just got done with a sit
- 8:39Speaker 1: down with Jaden Daniels in Washington, which he did on
- 8:42Speaker 1: Tuesday afternoon. We're gonna talk to Mike about Jaden. We're
- 8:47Speaker 1: gonna talk to Mike about two. We're gonna talk to
- 8:49Speaker 1: Mike about his new film that he produced on Amazon
- 8:53Speaker 1: called The Evolution of the Black Quarterback. Michael Vick is
- 8:56Speaker 1: going to join us October, he said, when it matters guys,
- 8:59Speaker 1: right after this, I'm very excited for our guests this week.
- 9:09Speaker 1: With no further ado, one of the NFL and cultural
- 9:16Speaker 1: icons of his generation and a colleague of mine on
- 9:19Speaker 1: Fox NFL kickoff every single Sunday Box eleven am Eastern.
- 9:24Speaker 1: We've become very good friends over the years. And it
- 9:26Speaker 1: was the first time having you on the podcast, mister
- 9:28Speaker 1: Michael Vick.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Michael, Hello, Well, so Peter, I can wait to come
- 9:32Speaker 2: on the pod man.
- 9:33Speaker 1: I've been waiting out get on the pod. I want
- 9:37Speaker 1: to start in Washington, d C. And I want to
- 9:40Speaker 1: start with current events because anytime there's a young athletic
- 9:46Speaker 1: African American quarterback, they immediately are compared to Michael Vick.
- 9:49Speaker 1: And I always say, time out, time out, that Michael
- 9:51Speaker 1: Vick was was one of one when he came into
- 9:53Speaker 1: this league. And there are very few guys who could
- 9:56Speaker 1: run and pass like Michael Vick. Jaden Daniels might be
- 10:00Speaker 1: that guy. When you watched Jaden Daniels in college, what
- 10:05Speaker 1: was your takeaway?
- 10:06Speaker 3: Yeah, it's funny because as soon as you start talking
- 10:11Speaker 3: about Jay and I start thinking about his days at
- 10:14Speaker 3: Arizona State and his time with herm Edwards, and I
- 10:18Speaker 3: think he spent three years there. And so you know,
- 10:20Speaker 3: we come out to California. You know, we catch the
- 10:22Speaker 3: late game. So I was always catching the Earth, I'm
- 10:24Speaker 3: always catching Arizona UCLA and so I was watching this kid.
- 10:29Speaker 3: I'm like, you know, I'm looking at the statue like
- 10:31Speaker 3: he got a lot of potential. You know, I knew
- 10:34Speaker 3: he was young, but I was like, I got to
- 10:35Speaker 3: watch and see how he progressed. And fast forward, he
- 10:37Speaker 3: ended up going to LSU. I'm looking at the quarterback
- 10:41Speaker 3: at LSU, like you get two years ago, and I'm like,
- 10:44Speaker 3: this kid looked familiar transfer reporter all this. I found
- 10:48Speaker 3: out that he transferred in and then his first year
- 10:51Speaker 3: at LSU it.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Was kind of like an up and down year, and
- 10:55Speaker 2: I knew he had another year left.
- 10:57Speaker 3: And nowadays, you never know how many years kids got,
- 11:00Speaker 3: Like in college, you know, some guys be six years
- 11:03Speaker 3: guys and five years and that wasn't the case back
- 11:06Speaker 3: and I date, so, you know, I see him at
- 11:09Speaker 3: LSU and I'm like, oh, the first year, I knew
- 11:13Speaker 3: he needed some work.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Last year, I was like, something must have clipped and
- 11:18Speaker 2: he ended.
- 11:19Speaker 3: Up winning the hazard And you know this, you know,
- 11:21Speaker 3: a long story short that you know, now we get
- 11:23Speaker 3: Jane Dames in.
- 11:24Speaker 2: The National Football League. So through four games.
- 11:28Speaker 3: Pete, I mean, he's just getting better and better and
- 11:32Speaker 3: better each and every week.
- 11:34Speaker 1: The crazy part is the completion percentage. He cleared ninety
- 11:37Speaker 1: percent of his passes two weeks ago eighty two percent
- 11:39Speaker 1: of his passes this week. A lot of that is,
- 11:42Speaker 1: of course the offense, but a lot of that is
- 11:45Speaker 1: on him as just a pure passer. That that has
- 11:48Speaker 1: blown me away as someone who was you know, thrown
- 11:50Speaker 1: into the NFL. Is the fact that he's so accurate?
- 11:53Speaker 1: Is that blowing you away?
- 11:54Speaker 3: Also, Yeah, it's blowing me away because I watched him
- 11:59Speaker 3: in college and so, like I said, the first year.
- 12:02Speaker 2: I just knew he needed a little work and needed
- 12:04Speaker 2: time to get better.
- 12:05Speaker 3: And then the next year he was making more plays
- 12:07Speaker 3: in the pocket and he was more accomplishing more in
- 12:11Speaker 3: the passing game. As far as understanding the concepts, I
- 12:15Speaker 3: think getting to the right places with the ball, and
- 12:18Speaker 3: I don't know what type of offense they was running with.
- 12:20Speaker 2: It was enough to win.
- 12:21Speaker 3: That hasn't Then fast forward and now he links up
- 12:25Speaker 3: with Cliff Kingsbury, your guy who you always praise and
- 12:29Speaker 3: said that you know, he, you know, was one of
- 12:32Speaker 3: the best in the business. And he's proven that, you
- 12:35Speaker 3: know what I'm say. He's proven that with Kyler, he's
- 12:37Speaker 3: proven that with jayalen Jada, and for him to come
- 12:40Speaker 3: out smoking and to be as efficient as he is,
- 12:43Speaker 3: that's that's the coach understanding the player and vice versas.
- 12:47Speaker 1: All right, so we work at Fox every weekend and
- 12:50Speaker 1: you get thirty two teams. No one, I mean, we
- 12:52Speaker 1: thought the Commanders could have a nice little bomum. No
- 12:53Speaker 1: one expected them to the story of the first month
- 12:55Speaker 1: of the season. You get a call from our producer saying, hey,
- 13:01Speaker 1: this is the story of the twenty twenty four campaign.
- 13:04Speaker 1: This is the Jaden Daniels here, Michael Vicky want you
- 13:06Speaker 1: to sit down with Jaden Daniels. That's gonna air on Fox.
- 13:10Speaker 1: You get the call where a few hours removed, you
- 13:13Speaker 1: spent yesterday in d C. Without giving away the entire interview,
- 13:17Speaker 1: take us through your day Tuesday, spending it with Jayden Daniels.
- 13:20Speaker 1: I assume the first time you met him.
- 13:22Speaker 3: Yeah, it was really cool to be back home for one.
- 13:24Speaker 3: You know, anytime I fly back into pertain you to
- 13:26Speaker 3: always bring back memories too. I always wanted to play
- 13:29Speaker 3: for Washington, so you know, being a guy who grew
- 13:33Speaker 3: up for my grandmother grew.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Up a Washington fan. I watched them a lot.
- 13:37Speaker 3: Didn't like him as a kid, but you know, I
- 13:41Speaker 3: wanted to finish my career in so you know, it
- 13:43Speaker 3: was I didn't get a chance to do that, so
- 13:45Speaker 3: it was a little bittersweet. But having a chance to
- 13:48Speaker 3: actually go and see any any team's facility, I'm always
- 13:53Speaker 3: intrigued by that.
- 13:55Speaker 2: When I got there, you know, just had to soak
- 13:57Speaker 2: it all in, look around, you.
- 13:59Speaker 3: Know, complex is really it was nice to doing a
- 14:01Speaker 3: lot of renovations and and uh, we're trying to you know,
- 14:05Speaker 3: make it, you know, a little more efficient than what
- 14:07Speaker 3: has been over the years. And so when I first
- 14:09Speaker 3: walk in and I see phrase move and Uh saying
- 14:15Speaker 3: Tana Monks.
- 14:17Speaker 1: I think working, I think working for the team. I
- 14:20Speaker 1: didn't know that.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Yeah, they're working in the mediate department.
- 14:22Speaker 3: They got their own podcasts, and they you know, just
- 14:24Speaker 3: around just around the facility, just hanging out, just being being,
- 14:28Speaker 3: you know, legends, the legends that they are. Then I
- 14:31Speaker 3: see Doug Wis, Then I see Cliff, then I see
- 14:37Speaker 3: Dan Quinn. You know, they all coming, you know, introduce
- 14:40Speaker 3: themselves and they're saying hi. And then then I ultimately
- 14:43Speaker 3: I get the team and uh had a chance to
- 14:46Speaker 3: just hang out with him for a second before we
- 14:47Speaker 3: did an interview. They were just talking about, you know,
- 14:51Speaker 3: the game plan for for this week. You know how
- 14:54Speaker 3: he's seeing a couple of you know, potential touchdowns in it.
- 14:58Speaker 3: So he's already off to the right off to you know,
- 15:02Speaker 3: the right start for this week. So sitting down and
- 15:05Speaker 3: talking to him, man, it was everything I thought it
- 15:07Speaker 3: would be. He was, you know, various, sightful, you know,
- 15:12Speaker 3: vibe Prince Smith and just very confident.
- 15:16Speaker 2: Man.
- 15:16Speaker 3: The one thing I can say Peter is that he
- 15:19Speaker 3: really believes in himself. He believes and what he can.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Do the past first, mentality run second.
- 15:25Speaker 3: And I'm pretty sure that the guys around him, you know,
- 15:29Speaker 3: as far as the receivers appreciate that.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:32Speaker 1: And I think DJ Moore and Keenan Allen and Realm
- 15:37Speaker 1: Dunes they are lining up for the Chicago Bears and
- 15:39Speaker 1: Kayleb Williams. When you get to Washington, as Jayden Daniels,
- 15:43Speaker 1: you're looking around. Mclaurin's great, but it's not guys who
- 15:46Speaker 1: are going to the Hall of Fame or winning All
- 15:48Speaker 1: pros or anything. A lot of that's on his shoulders,
- 15:50Speaker 1: and yet it doesn't seem to affect him. These guys,
- 15:53Speaker 1: he's making them better, he's elevating them. You get the
- 15:55Speaker 1: sense that he's a leader and he's bringing the best
- 15:57Speaker 1: ot of all these other guys.
- 15:58Speaker 3: Yeah, that's when you know the quarterback gets it and
- 16:02Speaker 3: understands it. And then I go back to my first
- 16:04Speaker 3: couple of years in Atlanta, man, when I had Sean
- 16:07Speaker 3: Jefferson and I had Brian Finneran and Algie Trump. I mean,
- 16:11Speaker 3: these wasn't superstar receivers. Or Sean was in his trunk
- 16:17Speaker 3: season and you know Brin was, you know, six '
- 16:21Speaker 3: five and ran a four four six inspector Brian Finnering,
- 16:25Speaker 3: great player, he know, he one of my favorites all time.
- 16:29Speaker 3: He know that, so he'll know. But you know, it
- 16:34Speaker 3: was all about, you know, the ball distribution. It was
- 16:37Speaker 3: all about playing together, believing in one another. Most important,
- 16:41Speaker 3: being on the same page. You know, you can accomplish
- 16:44Speaker 3: a lot, you know, just by having an understanding of
- 16:47Speaker 3: what you want to get accomplished, playing and play out.
- 16:49Speaker 3: But everybody's got to be on the same pages. So
- 16:52Speaker 3: that those guys they get together, they you know, they
- 16:55Speaker 3: they have their own little meetings, uh privately to make
- 16:58Speaker 3: sure that they all on the same page and to
- 17:00Speaker 3: make sure that you know, when the ball is snapped,
- 17:03Speaker 3: everybody know what they're going and they can get the
- 17:04Speaker 3: job done.
- 17:07Speaker 1: When when these young quarterbacks come in, I said this
- 17:09Speaker 1: started African Americans wor there could be an a young
- 17:11Speaker 1: quarterback when they come in, we get four or five
- 17:14Speaker 1: every year. It's fine. In the last decade or so,
- 17:17Speaker 1: you've been doing the media stuff you've been out of football.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Who's been the young quarterback that has proactively reached out
- 17:23Speaker 1: to you or has wanted to create a relationship or
- 17:26Speaker 1: has shown you that respect where the you know, Okay,
- 17:29Speaker 1: you've done this, You've been there, and I'm going to
- 17:31Speaker 1: look to you for some guidance, but also kind of
- 17:34Speaker 1: throw your flowers because we grew up you were the guy.
- 17:37Speaker 2: And they all reach out when they need to. You
- 17:40Speaker 2: know what I'm saying.
- 17:40Speaker 3: They all reach out, you know, whether whether it's Kylo,
- 17:43Speaker 3: whether there's CJ. You know those they all reach out.
- 17:47Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying. They all reach out for
- 17:49Speaker 3: advice if they needed. Most of the time, they have
- 17:52Speaker 3: people in the corner man who really appreciate you know,
- 17:56Speaker 3: you know, the the try hard, They appreciate them. You
- 17:58Speaker 3: know what I'm saying, want to you know, be the
- 18:00Speaker 3: best that they can be. And you know, my door
- 18:03Speaker 3: is always open. You know when I when I meet
- 18:05Speaker 3: those guys as that I passed my number along to them.
- 18:08Speaker 3: I passed it to him for a reason. He texts
- 18:10Speaker 3: me call me when that way they need And for
- 18:14Speaker 3: the most part, man, they're having one conversation with him, like, oh,
- 18:19Speaker 3: I can instant tell he's gonna be okay, he's gonna
- 18:21Speaker 3: be good.
- 18:22Speaker 2: He might need some work, you know what I'm saying.
- 18:24Speaker 3: They all just so open and they all want the knowledge,
- 18:27Speaker 3: and they also appreciative that we all try to reach
- 18:30Speaker 3: out to him and make him better.
- 18:32Speaker 1: Did you give your number to Jade and Daniels?
- 18:34Speaker 3: Yeah, I gave my number to Jay and the quarterback
- 18:38Speaker 3: I got to talk to the most lately over the
- 18:40Speaker 3: last couple of weeks, two or three times. But our
- 18:44Speaker 3: long conversations just trying to get on the same page.
- 18:46Speaker 3: And most of the time we had these conversations, it
- 18:49Speaker 3: might be a little frustration, but Shador, Shador saying, go on,
- 18:55Speaker 3: there's some good conversations. Shador coming into the season and
- 18:59Speaker 3: she doors are thinking, he's very smart, you know, a
- 19:02Speaker 3: very unique way of thinking that and he understands the.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Quarterback position.
- 19:07Speaker 3: So so confident in hisself that you know, he might
- 19:11Speaker 3: get put hisself in the he might overthink things, you know,
- 19:16Speaker 3: for the bet, and so you know, there's more conversations
- 19:18Speaker 3: about you know, trusting himself, trusting his coach, you know,
- 19:23Speaker 3: playing within the system.
- 19:25Speaker 2: And he's looking really good right now. Man. I text him,
- 19:29Speaker 2: you know, last week because I try not to be
- 19:31Speaker 2: on the line and trying to you know, hit them.
- 19:33Speaker 3: When I see the product, when I see the progress,
- 19:36Speaker 3: I know why they have the problem. It's not because
- 19:38Speaker 3: of me. It's because you know, they listening to the
- 19:40Speaker 3: people around. They might have took maybe one or two
- 19:42Speaker 3: tibbits and the things. And I said, but you know,
- 19:45Speaker 3: when I got to when I have to talk to
- 19:46Speaker 3: him and tell him what's really happening, I do, and
- 19:48Speaker 3: hopefully should door appreciate that.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Man, he's playing some good football right there. Yeah.
- 19:52Speaker 1: We had Daniel Jeremiah, who's the NFL Networks draft guy
- 19:55Speaker 1: on last week. He said, I know it's early and season,
- 19:57Speaker 1: give us a taste. Who who the guys. And he's like,
- 19:59Speaker 1: Travis Hunter and Shador might both go top picks, Like
- 20:03Speaker 1: that's how good both of those are.
- 20:05Speaker 2: They might go back to back.
- 20:06Speaker 1: They might go one too, dude, they might they might
- 20:08Speaker 1: they won't playing together.
- 20:10Speaker 3: I was about to say that they won't be on
- 20:13Speaker 3: the team. But at least, you know, those guys are
- 20:19Speaker 3: enjoying college football right now. It look like they have fun.
- 20:22Speaker 3: It was a moment where it seemed a little stressful
- 20:24Speaker 3: for the Colorado teams as a whole. But man, when
- 20:28Speaker 3: you got smart people in the building and people get it,
- 20:30Speaker 3: I understand, you usually get it, right, do you.
- 20:33Speaker 1: I know Warren sapp is now with dionn and I
- 20:35Speaker 1: know you've done like the Spring League, and you've done
- 20:38Speaker 1: some other things as far as like coaching goes in
- 20:41Speaker 1: a voluntary role. Do you ever think about a full
- 20:43Speaker 1: time coaching job? Did that ever come across your your
- 20:46Speaker 1: your table and something that you would think about doing?
- 20:48Speaker 3: You know, it's it's always it's always a thought, man,
- 20:51Speaker 3: because I have so many camps and be around so
- 20:53Speaker 3: many kids and seven or seven tournaments that i'd be doing,
- 20:57Speaker 3: and you know, so it's always a thought that I
- 20:59Speaker 3: would love to be with this kid every day to
- 21:02Speaker 3: help them out and watch and progress and you know,
- 21:04Speaker 3: help them grow, you know, through the good in the bad.
- 21:09Speaker 2: So it's always a thought.
- 21:10Speaker 3: But then then I think about, man, the opportunity that
- 21:13Speaker 3: we got the seats that we have.
- 21:15Speaker 2: Man, I like, yeah, I like what I do now too. Man.
- 21:18Speaker 2: So you know, I've I've always been torn in between coaching.
- 21:22Speaker 3: Full time and you know and other you know what
- 21:26Speaker 3: I'm saying, other, you know, opportunities that that might come
- 21:30Speaker 3: my way and that I've had a couple.
- 21:32Speaker 2: But I just I can't. I can't. I can't do it, man,
- 21:36Speaker 2: I know I know what that entails. And when you
- 21:38Speaker 2: dive into coaching when you haven't, you got to go, man,
- 21:41Speaker 2: you got to.
- 21:43Speaker 3: I don't necessarily after playing a lot of years in
- 21:47Speaker 3: the league. Man, I don't want to leave my family
- 21:49Speaker 3: the way you know I had to when I played
- 21:52Speaker 3: the sacrifice. You know, you know, maybe when i'm you know,
- 21:55Speaker 3: years lay down the road. Man, who knows what can happened?
- 21:59Speaker 1: Absolutely?
- 22:00Speaker 2: All right?
- 22:00Speaker 1: So this movie comes out last week on Amazon. It's
- 22:04Speaker 1: the number one movie on Amazon. I don't know all
- 22:07Speaker 1: the algorithms. I don't know what that even means. I
- 22:08Speaker 1: just know that a lot of people are watching it,
- 22:11Speaker 1: and your name is attached to it. And I remember, Michael,
- 22:15Speaker 1: I think it was three years ago you and I
- 22:17Speaker 1: were talking about this project. And now it comes to fruition.
- 22:21Speaker 1: It's called the Evolution of the Black Quarterback. It hits
- 22:24Speaker 1: streaming and it's number one, and it's great. But there
- 22:27Speaker 1: was a lot of work and a lot of ups
- 22:30Speaker 1: and downs that went into this. Can you take us
- 22:32Speaker 1: into the creation of the idea and then actually seeing
- 22:36Speaker 1: it to the finish line, which I am not wrong? Right,
- 22:39Speaker 1: three years even working.
- 22:40Speaker 2: On this thing. Yeah, that's accurate.
- 22:42Speaker 3: The one thing that I've been telling everybody, And you know,
- 22:45Speaker 3: we discussed it last week and we you know, y'all
- 22:48Speaker 3: congratulated me on and I appreciate y'all so much, man
- 22:51Speaker 3: for acknowledging the work.
- 22:53Speaker 2: And we all work hard in our own right, man.
- 22:55Speaker 3: We you know, we worked for Foxes, you know, full time,
- 22:59Speaker 3: you know, saying the good GMF is is full time,
- 23:03Speaker 3: and you know, we got to put a lot into it.
- 23:05Speaker 3: But we also try to dabble into things that we
- 23:08Speaker 3: also think could be efficient or useful or purposeful and
- 23:13Speaker 3: in other ways. And you know, I learned that, you know,
- 23:18Speaker 3: you got to you got to convince people one that things,
- 23:22Speaker 3: certain things make sense and too nobody's don't believe in
- 23:25Speaker 3: a vision like you, and you gotta work on to
- 23:28Speaker 3: make people believe and and and that's part of it.
- 23:30Speaker 3: That's that's so fair. I learned that, and so you know,
- 23:34Speaker 3: I wanted to gain credibility. I wanted the game and trust.
- 23:37Speaker 2: Uh.
- 23:38Speaker 3: The origin of it was people. You always come to
- 23:41Speaker 3: me and say, Mike, you changed the game, you revolutionized
- 23:44Speaker 3: the position.
- 23:45Speaker 2: Man.
- 23:45Speaker 3: It was you wouldn't see dam you wouldn't see Kyler,
- 23:49Speaker 3: you wouldn't see such such if it wasn't for you.
- 23:51Speaker 3: And I'd be like, well, have you ever seen Donovan
- 23:54Speaker 3: Man play? Have you ever seen Steve McNair, Chylie Wooden?
- 23:58Speaker 3: This generation that was always Noah, you no, yeah, But
- 24:03Speaker 3: I'm like, no, man, hell let's let's let's be by
- 24:06Speaker 3: with history a little bit.
- 24:08Speaker 2: You know. My favorite player was Steve Young growing.
- 24:10Speaker 3: Up, and you know, I had like I had to
- 24:12Speaker 3: look at somebody who who played like me.
- 24:16Speaker 2: You know, obviously him being left handed, it really helped
- 24:20Speaker 2: him being a runner.
- 24:21Speaker 3: I was so intrigued by that. And then I had
- 24:23Speaker 3: cut of hand mooning different styles. I was like, man,
- 24:26Speaker 3: you know what, Man, I want to talk about this man,
- 24:28Speaker 3: but I'm but you know what, I'm gonna take it
- 24:30Speaker 3: back because I felt like the NFL has grown so
- 24:34Speaker 3: much over the years. Man, I feel like an I
- 24:37Speaker 3: institute and you know, the opportunities that we get man
- 24:41Speaker 3: allow us to do so much man and grow as people.
- 24:44Speaker 2: And I'm like, man, every every organization entity.
- 24:48Speaker 3: Was like guys, man, we you know, the world will
- 24:50Speaker 3: be a better place because we were constantly growing.
- 24:53Speaker 2: So I wanted to show that part.
- 24:54Speaker 3: I wanted to show the greatness of the quarterbacks that
- 24:56Speaker 3: came before me and I couldn't take credit for it
- 25:00Speaker 3: was really changing the game of revolutionary.
- 25:02Speaker 1: I love this because it's your opportunity to say, yeah,
- 25:05Speaker 1: I know I was at that time, and when you
- 25:07Speaker 1: grew up, maybe was, and I knew I broke through
- 25:10Speaker 1: with commercials and with video games and Madden. It all
- 25:13Speaker 1: was a perfect storm. But you're like, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 25:17Speaker 1: We have to we have to show respect to Charlie
- 25:20Speaker 1: Ward first, because Charlie Ward went into Notre Dame and
- 25:24Speaker 1: beat Notre Dame and I'm sorry he lost to Notre Dame,
- 25:27Speaker 1: but it was one of the best games ever.
- 25:28Speaker 2: Like you, you.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Was like, this is my this is my burden, this
- 25:32Speaker 1: is my responsibility to now instead of just accepting the praise.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Let me give back and kind of show give this
- 25:38Speaker 1: back to the game and give those guys their flowers.
- 25:41Speaker 3: Yeah, and what I've been telling everybody, what I said
- 25:44Speaker 3: at the premiere, was that in twenty twenty four, Doug Williams,
- 25:53Speaker 3: Charlie Wood, Shaq Harris, you know, all these guys are
- 25:58Speaker 3: first round picks, you know what I'm saying. So that
- 26:01Speaker 3: shows the avenues, that shows the change in the progress.
- 26:04Speaker 3: I'm like, all these guys you just watched, they had
- 26:06Speaker 3: to go to Canada, had to do that. That's not
- 26:09Speaker 3: today's game, that's not today's time. We don't live in
- 26:11Speaker 3: that world anymore. So I was just excited to highlight
- 26:16Speaker 3: that man because I lived it. I know what the
- 26:19Speaker 3: league meant to meet. I know what the locker room
- 26:21Speaker 3: with his brotherhood means to me. And I know what
- 26:22Speaker 3: the fans mean to us when they acknowledge and they
- 26:25Speaker 3: see us coming together and going all out and trying
- 26:29Speaker 3: to entertain as best we can.
- 26:31Speaker 1: I mean, you look at in the fact that Warren
- 26:35Speaker 1: Moon had to go to Canada, despite breaking all those
- 26:39Speaker 1: records in college and being had to go to Canada
- 26:41Speaker 1: first and win Great Cups and have a whole career
- 26:43Speaker 1: in Canada, before he could even start his Houston Oilers career.
- 26:46Speaker 1: You look at Charlie Ward. I know he wanted to
- 26:48Speaker 1: be a basketball player, but the fact that he wasn't
- 26:50Speaker 1: a first round pick anyway in the NBA, it is
- 26:53Speaker 1: kind of my boggling because both of those players different styles.
- 26:56Speaker 1: Of course, both those players were be first round picks,
- 26:58Speaker 1: no doubt in twenty twenty four.
- 27:00Speaker 3: Right, And I'm growing up boxing these guys because I'm
- 27:03Speaker 3: playing quarterback and I'm feeling like them, just like stuck
- 27:08Speaker 3: between the rock and the hotspot as a you know,
- 27:11Speaker 3: thirteen fourteen.
- 27:12Speaker 2: Year old kid.
- 27:13Speaker 3: I'm like, man, i gotta change my position because if
- 27:16Speaker 3: I continue to play quarterback, I'm not gonna be drafted.
- 27:19Speaker 3: It's gonna be a waste of years and I'm gonna
- 27:21Speaker 3: be sad. Man, I don't know what I'm gonna do.
- 27:22Speaker 3: What I did know that I wanted to make it
- 27:24Speaker 3: in criminology. You know, I wanted to be in the FBI,
- 27:27Speaker 3: so I had a backup plan. But you know it
- 27:30Speaker 3: was man my coaches over the years who was mentors
- 27:33Speaker 3: who pushed me to continue, you know, just play quarterback.
- 27:37Speaker 3: But I'm watching everything closely, because I wanted to know, like, look, man,
- 27:42Speaker 3: if I'm gonna put my all into playing quarterback, I
- 27:45Speaker 3: at least wanted to get drafted in like the fifth
- 27:48Speaker 3: or the sixth or the seventh round.
- 27:50Speaker 2: I just I want, I just want to shot.
- 27:52Speaker 3: And then and then the nineteen ninety nine draft happened
- 27:55Speaker 3: when when Andy to Donovan number two, and I was like, man,
- 28:00Speaker 3: and then you know, and then that whole draft for Kelly Smith,
- 28:06Speaker 3: Codante Cole Pep, I was like, hold on, man, I
- 28:08Speaker 3: think the league changing. Man, I think it's been a
- 28:11Speaker 3: little paradigm shift. So I was so excited so much
- 28:16Speaker 3: to me, and I always talked to Amy about that
- 28:19Speaker 3: and told him what that meant to me. And uh,
- 28:21Speaker 3: you know, now I get a chance to tell the
- 28:22Speaker 3: world and hopefully hopefully this project, man, people see this
- 28:26Speaker 3: and they just just bring us all closer together.
- 28:28Speaker 2: Man, that's what I want.
- 28:29Speaker 1: Who were the actual quarterbacks that you physically sat down
- 28:32Speaker 1: with for this project. I know there was a couple, obviously,
- 28:35Speaker 1: I know that a lot of people participated, But who
- 28:37Speaker 1: did you travel to go sit down with.
- 28:39Speaker 3: I traveled to see Dak, I traveled to see Russell,
- 28:44Speaker 3: I traveled to see Warren.
- 28:46Speaker 2: I traveled to see Doug. I traveled to see Charlie Shack.
- 28:53Speaker 2: Who else? Man? I traveled to see Colin Kaepernick.
- 28:56Speaker 3: Kapp was graceful, graceful enough to you know, blesseds with
- 29:00Speaker 3: his presence, and that was really cool.
- 29:04Speaker 2: Man. I know, missing on a lot of guys, man,
- 29:07Speaker 2: But yeah, I travel to see everybody.
- 29:09Speaker 3: I travel to see all those guys and sitting down
- 29:11Speaker 3: with him and and uh, it's it's to a point
- 29:15Speaker 3: now where the storys are so intriguing. And now I
- 29:20Speaker 3: got a lot of young quarterbacks called him like, man,
- 29:21Speaker 3: when you go do a part two? So yeah, we're
- 29:23Speaker 3: gonna do a part two. But it probably consists more of,
- 29:27Speaker 3: you know, the teaching of the game. I want to
- 29:29Speaker 3: you know, break down film with those guys, you know
- 29:32Speaker 3: what I'm saying, Probably the younger generation see how much
- 29:34Speaker 3: they know about the game. You know, maybe a couple
- 29:38Speaker 3: more general managers and owners getting their perspective, you know,
- 29:42Speaker 3: just on the game now and where it's going, where
- 29:44Speaker 3: it's headed. Just some cool stories, many cool moments and
- 29:48Speaker 3: in our profession that I think people are enjoy. So
- 29:52Speaker 3: maybe a part two could potentially be you know, with
- 29:55Speaker 3: Jamie Daniels and still didn't get Kyler and wanted to
- 29:58Speaker 3: include RG three and you know, and a lot of
- 30:00Speaker 3: them guys. You know, budgets are real. Budgets are real.
- 30:02Speaker 3: So I didn't control the budget. So I want to
- 30:06Speaker 3: circle back and get those guys, man, and uh, you know,
- 30:09Speaker 3: certainly get them an opportunity to to you know, to
- 30:13Speaker 3: pay homage.
- 30:14Speaker 1: I know other quarterbacks that are in the documentary. Patrick
- 30:17Speaker 1: Mahomes makes an appearance. Jalen hurts, Oh yeah, how did
- 30:21Speaker 1: I forget these?
- 30:21Speaker 2: I tried.
- 30:23Speaker 3: I traveled to see Patrick, travel to see cam and
- 30:27Speaker 3: travel to see Jay.
- 30:28Speaker 2: Man. I want I just wanted it to be a moment. Man.
- 30:32Speaker 3: I look forward to more of those moments because sit
- 30:34Speaker 3: down with Jaden yesterday was it brought me back and
- 30:37Speaker 3: it was just really cool. And I wish I could.
- 30:39Speaker 3: I wish I could sit down with every quarterback in
- 30:41Speaker 3: the need. I wish I could sit down with j
- 30:43Speaker 3: Justin Herbert.
- 30:44Speaker 1: I wish I could.
- 30:44Speaker 3: But you know what, it's all based on playing, you know,
- 30:48Speaker 3: you know, but uh, you know, I will, I will
- 30:51Speaker 3: circle the wagon to get through those guys, man, just
- 30:54Speaker 3: because now for me, it's more and so about the
- 30:57Speaker 3: football journey.
- 30:58Speaker 2: How they all became quarterbacks. So I be sort intriguing
- 31:01Speaker 2: their stories. It's really cool.
- 31:12Speaker 1: If one common bond between you and Mahomes is Andy Reid.
- 31:17Speaker 1: We see Andy Reid, big jovial, loving guy that you
- 31:20Speaker 1: know obviously is now a super Bowl champion three times over.
- 31:24Speaker 2: The whole deal.
- 31:24Speaker 1: They've won and everything's great, and he's going for this
- 31:26Speaker 1: three feet the man Andy Reid and what he's meant
- 31:31Speaker 1: to so many of you. I know when you were
- 31:33Speaker 1: in your darkest hour, Andy Reid was there. Tell tell
- 31:35Speaker 1: the listeners just what Andy Reid means to you as
- 31:37Speaker 1: a as a player but also as a human being.
- 31:40Speaker 2: Yeah, Andy meant a lot to me. I start with Andy.
- 31:44Speaker 3: The how what he meant to me as a player first,
- 31:46Speaker 3: because I think it's the more profound effect to what
- 31:50Speaker 3: he meant to me as a man.
- 31:51Speaker 2: As a player. He just made me better.
- 31:54Speaker 3: He just the knowledge that I've attained before him, he
- 31:59Speaker 3: just enhanced it. I listened to everything that he ever
- 32:03Speaker 3: said in terms of football, try to and try to
- 32:07Speaker 3: do it to the best of my ability. I knew
- 32:11Speaker 3: what I had learned before him. You know, I could
- 32:15Speaker 3: only get better and I will say this. I was
- 32:19Speaker 3: always and I told Donald this, I was always jealous
- 32:22Speaker 3: of Donovan because he had Andy and he they was
- 32:26Speaker 3: going to end up the championship games. And I'm watching
- 32:28Speaker 3: the film when I was with the Falcons, and I'm like, God, leave,
- 32:31Speaker 3: they do a lot. Man, This dude know what he
- 32:33Speaker 3: doing and it was just it was just non stop
- 32:36Speaker 3: me and they got too and they just was going crazy.
- 32:38Speaker 2: And he didn't have Toyo.
- 32:41Speaker 3: I just knew he was a good football coach from
- 32:44Speaker 3: from the time I was young, and you know, obviously
- 32:46Speaker 3: never being able to beat him in the Grovisional Round
- 32:49Speaker 3: or the NFC Championship, and you know, it was always
- 32:52Speaker 3: fun and competitive.
- 32:54Speaker 2: But you know, once I got to me, he made
- 32:56Speaker 2: men better quarterback.
- 32:57Speaker 3: And then Andy the man was even even better because
- 33:01Speaker 3: he was the only coach. I not the only coach,
- 33:03Speaker 3: but as I'm mature, he was the coach. I used
- 33:06Speaker 3: to go sit in his office and talk. They called
- 33:07Speaker 3: me up just to have a conversation, and you know,
- 33:12Speaker 3: I put myself in his seat. If I was a coach,
- 33:14Speaker 3: I would do the same. I would call my players
- 33:16Speaker 3: to the office and have a little one on one
- 33:18Speaker 3: check in with them see what's going on, things that
- 33:21Speaker 3: that are important, and uh, you know they know a
- 33:26Speaker 3: lot about us, more than what we think they know,
- 33:28Speaker 3: especially at those times. And so it was moments where
- 33:31Speaker 3: he gave me amazing advice. You know, probably used to
- 33:33Speaker 3: correct the ninety percent of the time ten percent I
- 33:35Speaker 3: did it, probably failed in some.
- 33:38Speaker 2: Other area in life.
- 33:39Speaker 3: And you know, the moments that we probably would laugh
- 33:42Speaker 3: about now and cool stories. But I never forget man
- 33:47Speaker 3: the type of man. He is a great sense of
- 33:49Speaker 3: human he has. One time, my wife, who was he
- 33:52Speaker 3: was going through some tough times, you know, with her family,
- 33:56Speaker 3: and and uh, you know, I was just exhausted, man,
- 33:59Speaker 3: and you know, trying to try to play football and
- 34:01Speaker 3: trying to be the best person that I could be
- 34:04Speaker 3: as far as you know, the supporter.
- 34:07Speaker 2: You know, my wife is going through some difficult times
- 34:10Speaker 2: losing family lost and family member, and I remember I
- 34:13Speaker 2: just I broke down crying. I had no I had
- 34:16Speaker 2: nothing left, you know what I'm saying. I got trying
- 34:18Speaker 2: to be strong for her. I broke down crying and
- 34:20Speaker 2: laying on the couch and I'm just nobody to talk to.
- 34:23Speaker 3: You know, one of my doctor's moments because she she's
- 34:28Speaker 3: in a dark place and that's nothing I could do
- 34:30Speaker 3: to help her. And my phone bring is Andy, and Andy,
- 34:34Speaker 3: you know, I pick up.
- 34:35Speaker 2: You know, I.
- 34:36Speaker 3: Started crying even worse because now I really need somebody
- 34:38Speaker 3: to talk to. But I can't really talk. I can't
- 34:40Speaker 3: get the words out.
- 34:42Speaker 2: Peter.
- 34:42Speaker 3: By the time we got off that phone, Man, this
- 34:44Speaker 3: man had me laughing so hard. Man Like he just
- 34:49Speaker 3: I needed him so much in that moment. Man, he
- 34:52Speaker 3: and it's just the type of person he is. He
- 34:54Speaker 3: made me feel so much better about my about life
- 34:57Speaker 3: and just what I believed in. And we went through
- 35:00Speaker 3: some tough times together as well. And so and that's
- 35:04Speaker 3: the moment I never forget, man, because uh you know,
- 35:08Speaker 3: it shows this chartter it's true character. And so it
- 35:10Speaker 3: don't surprise me they having the success that they have.
- 35:13Speaker 3: You in Kansas City. I'm so happy that he got
- 35:16Speaker 3: his rings. I was just thinking of it.
- 35:18Speaker 2: Damn. I wish he could have got won in Philly.
- 35:20Speaker 1: Not I agree, even if with me, if.
- 35:25Speaker 3: It was just one you know what I'm saying, just
- 35:27Speaker 3: for the fan base, But but Philly ended up getting there,
- 35:30Speaker 3: so it was just all good.
- 35:31Speaker 2: They got it.
- 35:32Speaker 1: Uh well, rap, sure they just want to go through
- 35:34Speaker 1: some rapid fire questions about the memories of being Michael
- 35:38Speaker 1: Vick in that moment and in those times of Atlanta
- 35:43Speaker 1: early two thousands, Ludacris is coming out, Outcast is coming out,
- 35:48Speaker 1: Ussher is on the scene, It's it's Jermaine Dupriez everything,
- 35:52Speaker 1: and then there here comes this Michael Vick in the
- 35:55Speaker 1: Atlanta Falcons. And I was in college at the time.
- 35:57Speaker 1: You're a little bit older than me. I was in
- 35:59Speaker 1: Atlanta and there might have been no bigger cultural moment
- 36:03Speaker 1: than Atlanta in the early two thousands, and you were
- 36:06Speaker 1: one of those main faces when you look back at
- 36:09Speaker 1: that area. Just give me a snapshot of what it
- 36:11Speaker 1: was like being in Atlanta during the two thousand the
- 36:14Speaker 1: two thousand and five range, just when the musical scene
- 36:17Speaker 1: was exploding, but also this incredible football team in Atlanta,
- 36:21Speaker 1: and you know what was going on in the Georgia
- 36:22Speaker 1: Dome on Sundays.
- 36:26Speaker 3: Yeah, Peters, it's so hard to go back to Atlanta now, man,
- 36:29Speaker 3: because I love that city so much because of not
- 36:34Speaker 3: just football, but those moments, man, when when I first
- 36:38Speaker 3: got there and meeting everybody, get introduced to Ludaprius and
- 36:43Speaker 3: getting introduced to two chains, when they getting introduced to
- 36:46Speaker 3: TI and getting introduced to man, all these these people
- 36:51Speaker 3: who mean so much to the culture, who mean so
- 36:53Speaker 3: much to entertainment and their profession. Them accepting me one,
- 36:59Speaker 3: you know, I was proud too. It added more pressient
- 37:01Speaker 3: to me having to be great, you know what I'm saying.
- 37:04Speaker 3: And so you know, those guys, you know, more so
- 37:09Speaker 3: than anybody was if I was out.
- 37:11Speaker 2: Hey, man, how things go on?
- 37:13Speaker 3: Football may may make sure you're getting your rest, man,
- 37:16Speaker 3: make sure you stay healthy.
- 37:17Speaker 2: Make sure they cared about me genuinely, you know what
- 37:20Speaker 2: I'm saying. They wanted me to. They knew. Look and
- 37:24Speaker 2: entertainment world is one thing, but man, you need to
- 37:28Speaker 2: be getting rest.
- 37:28Speaker 3: You need to be putting off of us on Sunday,
- 37:31Speaker 3: on Sundays, Mondays and Thursdays and Jesus come along, man.
- 37:34Speaker 3: And it's just the games was amazing. The games was
- 37:38Speaker 3: like like playing a football game in front of the club,
- 37:41Speaker 3: outside of the club, man, you know what I'm saying.
- 37:43Speaker 2: Like it's that, it's like it's electric, we having fun,
- 37:47Speaker 2: it's music.
- 37:49Speaker 3: And man, it was a lot of pressure too, because
- 37:53Speaker 3: I mean, when you got all your boys in there.
- 37:55Speaker 1: You can't.
- 37:57Speaker 3: You can't slack, man, You got it. You gotta be
- 37:59Speaker 3: on your A games. So just amazing moments in time, man.
- 38:03Speaker 3: And that's why I said it's hard to go back
- 38:05Speaker 3: to Atlanta, because I relived those moments.
- 38:09Speaker 2: It was so much. It's just it's tough, but I
- 38:12Speaker 2: still love to go back.
- 38:13Speaker 1: You had this great rivalry with your cousin Aaron Brooks,
- 38:16Speaker 1: who was with the Saints, and I remember I would
- 38:19Speaker 1: go to all those Falcons games. I would, you know,
- 38:21Speaker 1: pay for tickets. I'd go with all my friends from college.
- 38:23Speaker 1: We would go to like probably six or eight Falcons
- 38:25Speaker 1: home games a year when you were there. We loved
- 38:27Speaker 1: watching you. And then one time I'm sitting in the
- 38:30Speaker 1: fraternity house and I get a message on my phone
- 38:33Speaker 1: and it's a recorded message from Michael Vick and.
- 38:36Speaker 2: You probably didn't know.
- 38:37Speaker 1: It's Hey, I'm playing my cousin Aaron Brooks this weekend
- 38:40Speaker 1: and the Saints are coming to town and we need
- 38:42Speaker 1: you in the building, please please, And I was like,
- 38:46Speaker 1: this is the rivalry. And it wasn't treated the same
- 38:48Speaker 1: as Cowboys Eagles on the national scale, or even forty
- 38:51Speaker 1: nine Ers cowboys on the national scale. But my gosh,
- 38:55Speaker 1: those those Aaron Brooks Michael Vick here is probably a
- 38:57Speaker 1: little window in time, probably two three years.
- 38:59Speaker 2: Like that was real three years.
- 39:02Speaker 3: And I really didn't know what that raval meant at
- 39:05Speaker 3: the time, because you know it was enhanced because of
- 39:09Speaker 3: my cousin being on the other side and you know,
- 39:12Speaker 3: a little cousin want to be big cousin, and that
- 39:15Speaker 3: that part of it was always always came into play.
- 39:19Speaker 2: And it was just good games.
- 39:21Speaker 3: I remember some of the best crowd and the loudest,
- 39:26Speaker 3: the Georgia jhomers up was was ever you know, I
- 39:30Speaker 3: guess Mark was in those times like a Sparts decib
- 39:33Speaker 3: me to like I'm talking about rowdy, rowdy, you know.
- 39:38Speaker 2: And and so those fans they didn't like me, man,
- 39:40Speaker 2: they didn't like me.
- 39:41Speaker 3: The one time I got in trouble when I when
- 39:44Speaker 3: it wasn't no social media and I tried my biggest
- 39:47Speaker 3: mistakes and off fan was was not a Falcons fan.
- 39:51Speaker 3: It was Saturday say it was the Saints man, but
- 39:56Speaker 3: that's how rowdy was. That was the rivalry man and
- 39:58Speaker 3: they beat us. But that was post that was post Aaron.
- 40:01Speaker 3: That was the start of the Drew Brees ear and
- 40:04Speaker 3: so he I knew when Drew came man, I was like, yeah,
- 40:08Speaker 3: in trouble, you know what I'm saying.
- 40:10Speaker 2: Aaron was tough to deal with.
- 40:11Speaker 3: But Drew and Sean came in at the same time,
- 40:14Speaker 3: and it was like, Yo, nah, they can't take this
- 40:16Speaker 3: robbery from They can't.
- 40:18Speaker 2: They can't take this over.
- 40:19Speaker 3: So but man, good moments. Man, good moments is sports
- 40:22Speaker 3: and certain games. I never forget for sure.
- 40:26Speaker 2: All Right.
- 40:26Speaker 1: Two amazing commercials that are forever in my head, the
- 40:29Speaker 1: Michael Vick experience. When you're on the roller coaster. Do
- 40:32Speaker 1: you remember getting pitched that whole project and take us
- 40:35Speaker 1: through the formation of that commercial, what brand it was for,
- 40:38Speaker 1: and then when you actually filmed it and then saw
- 40:40Speaker 1: it actually come to life. It was probably the most
- 40:42Speaker 1: popular commercial of the two thousands.
- 40:45Speaker 2: Yeah, it was. It was a Nike commercial.
- 40:47Speaker 3: And I never forget to you. I was like, man,
- 40:51Speaker 3: I need something more urban in this, Like what this
- 40:54Speaker 3: is a commercial for kids? And hid it's like thinking
- 40:58Speaker 3: about it now, Yes, that's what you was trying to do.
- 41:01Speaker 3: You was trying to appeal to the kids and the
- 41:03Speaker 3: next generation. You're trying to give them the Michael Vick experience.
- 41:05Speaker 3: That's what it was all about, Like what are you missing?
- 41:08Speaker 3: And so like back then, I was just always in
- 41:13Speaker 3: my own head, always wanted things to be my way, and.
- 41:18Speaker 2: It goes.
- 41:19Speaker 3: It goes to show that the people around me probably
- 41:22Speaker 3: the best, because that commercials stood and test the time,
- 41:25Speaker 3: is still one of the top commercials in football to
- 41:31Speaker 3: this day, and I appreciate it more now than.
- 41:34Speaker 2: I did back then.
- 41:35Speaker 3: So shut out the Nike for making that, you know,
- 41:38Speaker 3: one of the top commercials in that era and believing
- 41:43Speaker 3: in me, you know what I'm saying that to put
- 41:45Speaker 3: it out there.
- 41:46Speaker 2: So I didn't like it. But man, when you were.
- 41:49Speaker 1: Filming that, they take it to like Stone Mountain Local
- 41:52Speaker 1: six Flags, and you're like, you know, actually getting in
- 41:55Speaker 1: Like what was the process of like actually filming that commercial.
- 41:58Speaker 3: So I think we filmed that out in the Word
- 42:01Speaker 3: now by Nike's campus, Yeah, on the Nike campus, And
- 42:05Speaker 3: I remember Phil Knight was there, Bill Keller was there,
- 42:09Speaker 3: And for some reason when I used to see Phil man,
- 42:11Speaker 3: I used to feel like I just said, but I
- 42:15Speaker 3: created Nike, you know, perk U blow yeah, man, because
- 42:21Speaker 3: I always wanted to make a proud you always wanted
- 42:23Speaker 3: to I appreciate it the Nike so much, and then
- 42:25Speaker 3: I'm giving me a whole line of the shoes like
- 42:28Speaker 3: the vict you know, the whole vic line was. You know,
- 42:32Speaker 3: we was able to create create four shoes, different shoes
- 42:34Speaker 3: and four different styles of pleats and that it was
- 42:36Speaker 3: on the fifth one and it was like, man, they believe,
- 42:39Speaker 3: they truly believed in me, so that the respect was
- 42:41Speaker 3: always there.
- 42:42Speaker 1: When you saw I'm as sending you watch that Matt
- 42:44Speaker 1: Damon ben Affleck movie air, like did you see yourself
- 42:48Speaker 1: in them Michael Jordan's shoes where he was kind of
- 42:50Speaker 1: the same deal where they're going to build a line
- 42:52Speaker 1: around me.
- 42:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 42:54Speaker 3: So when I first started my shoe line, it was like, Okay,
- 42:56Speaker 3: brings some shoes in and you want to pattern your
- 42:59Speaker 3: shoe after and I.
- 43:00Speaker 2: Pulled out like six pairs of Jordan's. They was like, oh, yeah,
- 43:04Speaker 2: this is what you want to do. So, you know,
- 43:06Speaker 2: Shout out of the East got more was my shoe
- 43:08Speaker 2: priod at the time.
- 43:09Speaker 3: He was over Nike, and he uh like he took
- 43:13Speaker 3: those shoes, man, and he he took six shoes and
- 43:16Speaker 3: he drew like three hundred pitches like he would come
- 43:18Speaker 3: up with like three hundred sketches and we'll break him
- 43:21Speaker 3: down three hundred, two hundred, two hundred to one hundred hundreds.
- 43:25Speaker 3: The shoe process and making a shoe was so fun, man,
- 43:30Speaker 3: so intriguing. P I I fell in love with that
- 43:33Speaker 3: line more than anything that was that I was doing.
- 43:35Speaker 3: I think that was one of my biggest downfalls because
- 43:39Speaker 3: you know, did.
- 43:40Speaker 1: You get upset with the shoe culture, like that's what
- 43:41Speaker 1: you were?
- 43:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I wassessed with the shoe culture and obsessed with
- 43:45Speaker 3: just having my own sicknasure line. It's like what athlete
- 43:48Speaker 3: has its own shoe lining?
- 43:50Speaker 2: You know.
- 43:50Speaker 3: So even then, as privileged as I was, man like,
- 43:57Speaker 3: I felt like I should have, you know, appreciated that
- 44:01Speaker 3: a little bit more and that you know, sometimes you
- 44:03Speaker 3: have things that come to you and things that you
- 44:06Speaker 3: are given opportunities where you got to say, I got to,
- 44:10Speaker 3: you know, one, be on my best behavior too. I
- 44:13Speaker 3: got to think myself through a lot of situations because
- 44:16Speaker 3: you know, I'm wonder this, this puts.
- 44:18Speaker 2: Me up under the public eye and it's a pedestal.
- 44:22Speaker 3: Yeah, and there's a lot of responsibility that comes along
- 44:25Speaker 3: with having all of this, you know, and so you know,
- 44:31Speaker 3: it's hindsight now, but you know, my attitude of my
- 44:34Speaker 3: thinking was at twenty four was the way it was
- 44:37Speaker 3: at thirty four and out of the church and things
- 44:39Speaker 3: a lot more. And so you know, it's something I
- 44:43Speaker 3: can preach to the Shadors and the James and the
- 44:48Speaker 3: guys who are coming into the league who are going
- 44:50Speaker 3: to obtain all these things at some point. Protected man,
- 44:55Speaker 3: God blessed you, and you want to be able to
- 44:57Speaker 3: talk to the next generation ten fifteen years from now
- 45:01Speaker 3: and let them.
- 45:02Speaker 1: Know how to hold on to my last question, I'll
- 45:06Speaker 1: never forge get Monday Night football. Chip Kelly's now the
- 45:08Speaker 1: new coach of the Eagles, and Robert Griffin is the
- 45:12Speaker 1: hottest name in sports. He comes out, he is carrying
- 45:14Speaker 1: a flag running out of the thing, and you guys
- 45:17Speaker 1: came in there and just absolutely destroyed them. You Sean Jackson,
- 45:21Speaker 1: Chip had the game plan laid out, take us through
- 45:24Speaker 1: that week one Monday night game Eagles versus Redskins, and.
- 45:29Speaker 2: Peter you always bring out the coolest moments. Many Let
- 45:32Speaker 2: me let me look. I g three, my boy. I'm
- 45:36Speaker 2: on the doorst part in a couple in a couple
- 45:38Speaker 2: of weeks and Igie three, he the home.
- 45:42Speaker 3: Well, I gotta tell you this story too, and me
- 45:45Speaker 3: and me and Agi talked about this because I took
- 45:48Speaker 3: it the wrong way.
- 45:48Speaker 2: So four before that, I was I finished the season,
- 45:53Speaker 2: I was hurt on.
- 45:56Speaker 3: And just a long story long, I'm on injury reserve,
- 46:00Speaker 3: and the Ramskins came in and would watch Commanders.
- 46:03Speaker 2: They came in and beat us. They knocked us all
- 46:06Speaker 2: beat as good.
- 46:07Speaker 3: After the game, as he came to me and he
- 46:10Speaker 3: was like, man, I wish he was out there today.
- 46:14Speaker 2: And I was like, yeah, man, me too.
- 46:16Speaker 3: But I kind of took it as you know, as
- 46:18Speaker 3: a competitor, you always and also he respects I look
- 46:22Speaker 3: at it, yeah, some type. But he was like, I
- 46:24Speaker 3: wish he was out there. And later on that night,
- 46:27Speaker 3: I'm like, what do you mean about that? He wished
- 46:30Speaker 3: I was out there? I mean he wanted to go
- 46:32Speaker 3: toe to toe with me, and you know, quarterback and quarterback.
- 46:35Speaker 3: I'm like, you know what next year, you know, I
- 46:38Speaker 3: have my shot. We get they scheduled Washington first. I'm like, okay,
- 46:44Speaker 3: Ge said he wanted you know, he wish I was
- 46:46Speaker 3: out there. He went and so like in the Jordan moment,
- 46:49Speaker 3: I psyched myself up in my head.
- 46:51Speaker 2: And this what he wanted.
- 46:53Speaker 3: He wanted to be a twelve year veteran. I'm a
- 46:56Speaker 3: little older. He young, and he doing this thing and
- 46:58Speaker 3: I'm like, okay, and I just show up and show out.
- 47:01Speaker 3: So you know, Chip, we we was running that new offense.
- 47:06Speaker 3: It was fast paced, it was it was a great system.
- 47:11Speaker 2: I think.
- 47:12Speaker 1: Uh.
- 47:13Speaker 3: I remember Lendon Fletcher coming to me before the game
- 47:15Speaker 3: and saying, man, it's unfortunate that we got to play
- 47:19Speaker 3: our first and we got to run into this offense first.
- 47:22Speaker 2: Right then and there. I knew he was gonna be
- 47:24Speaker 2: It was done right.
- 47:25Speaker 1: When the best linebackers like it's unfortunate, we don't feel
- 47:28Speaker 1: it's actually prepared for this.
- 47:30Speaker 2: I'm like, he's scared. He got feel already. You know.
- 47:33Speaker 3: We just got to go fast and then came off
- 47:35Speaker 3: the flag and stuck it in the ground boom. I said,
- 47:38Speaker 3: oh man, it's gonna be a long night. We gotta
- 47:41Speaker 3: start fast. And I just never forget the play calling
- 47:44Speaker 3: was amazing. I thought Chip was amazing. I knew I
- 47:47Speaker 3: was getting old because I had a scene in that
- 47:50Speaker 3: game where I broke one and I had to see
- 47:52Speaker 3: him too wide open and they caught me, you.
- 47:55Speaker 2: Know, time catching you a movement, not the same. It
- 48:01Speaker 2: was a very competitive game.
- 48:03Speaker 3: I had a chance to speak to after the game
- 48:05Speaker 3: and we you know, we we had it, you know,
- 48:07Speaker 3: a nice little moment. And then I mentioned it to
- 48:10Speaker 3: Ig a couple of weeks, a couple of months ago, like, Bro,
- 48:13Speaker 3: I remember you said that.
- 48:14Speaker 2: He was like, nah, Bro, I ain't mean it like that,
- 48:16Speaker 2: just that one.
- 48:16Speaker 3: Just face you as an election, you know what I'm saying, Like, oh, man,
- 48:20Speaker 3: I cite myself up to So it's good.
- 48:24Speaker 2: It's one.
- 48:24Speaker 3: When I think of that game, I think of that man.
- 48:27Speaker 3: But certainly fun to play against, you know, Washington at
- 48:32Speaker 3: the time. You know, long story, long story long. My
- 48:35Speaker 3: grandmother was a Commander's fan. I always told myself I
- 48:41Speaker 3: would never lose to Washington in my professional career because
- 48:46Speaker 3: my grandmother was a command was a Commanders fan, and
- 48:49Speaker 3: I never lost to him. Did you never lose to them?
- 48:52Speaker 3: I never lost to them. I probably lost to everybody else,
- 48:54Speaker 3: but I never lost them. So that was kind of
- 48:58Speaker 3: a cool thing, man. And you know, me and my
- 49:00Speaker 3: grandmother shared even when I got to the league, because
- 49:03Speaker 3: my dream of playing in the NFL started with her.
- 49:05Speaker 3: It started with us watching watching Washington every week because
- 49:10Speaker 3: you know, growing up in Virginia, they was on every
- 49:12Speaker 3: every week.
- 49:13Speaker 2: That's the local game. That's what you got. You got
- 49:15Speaker 2: you got the you got Washington weekend and week out.
- 49:19Speaker 2: So I grew up watching Jay Straight and all those guys, so.
- 49:24Speaker 1: Gary Clark and Ricky Sandys.
- 49:27Speaker 2: The Posse.
- 49:28Speaker 3: Uh, I mean it was too good. They was too good.
- 49:33Speaker 3: So yeah, that's my you know, my football moment. But
- 49:35Speaker 3: Tip Kelly was amazing. I really got a lot of
- 49:37Speaker 3: respect and chipping what he's done for the game of football.
- 49:39Speaker 3: How you helped me to learn learn more more offense?
- 49:43Speaker 1: Cool? All right, we're gonna wrap here. This is amazing.
- 49:45Speaker 1: The Jaden Daniels interview I assume airs this weekend on
- 49:48Speaker 1: Fox NFL Sunday.
- 49:50Speaker 3: Yep, you, sir, Joe Santos. I want to say who
- 49:53Speaker 3: was Joe was on the ground. Joe was amazing, man.
- 49:56Speaker 3: I'll tell you what the prep me and Joel did, Like,
- 49:59Speaker 3: Joe prepped me to a point where I could just
- 50:02Speaker 3: go in there and just ask the question.
- 50:03Speaker 2: So he was amazing with it. That was fun working with.
- 50:06Speaker 1: The producer for all those great features you see on Fox, Mike,
- 50:10Speaker 1: I love you, man, You're great. You're so cruel and
- 50:12Speaker 1: I appreciate you taking them time. You're a busy guy.
- 50:15Speaker 1: Let's get some dinner this weekend.
- 50:16Speaker 2: What do you say? Let's do it Saturday night.
- 50:19Speaker 1: Saturday night, We're gonna go out. We're gonna go out hard.
- 50:21Speaker 1: Let everyone knows, all right, Michael Vick. I'm gonna bring
- 50:33Speaker 1: in my producer and friend, mister Aaron Wong Kaufman. I
- 50:38Speaker 1: think Michael Vick is an incredible, incredible American story when
- 50:44Speaker 1: you talk about the highs, the lows, and then getting
- 50:48Speaker 1: back into the NFL and making the most of the opportunity.
- 50:52Speaker 1: And what I take away from all this is that
- 50:54Speaker 1: like he's got this great heart where he's trying to
- 50:55Speaker 1: give back to the younger generation and saying, if I
- 50:58Speaker 1: only knew then what I knew now, and how do
- 51:01Speaker 1: I use all that information knowledge and experience Because you
- 51:04Speaker 1: hear him like it's so sad that he's like, you know,
- 51:06Speaker 1: I had this shoe and I couldn't even enjoy it.
- 51:08Speaker 1: I couldn't even I was so obsessed with it. And
- 51:10Speaker 1: then he was talking about, you know, being in all
- 51:13Speaker 1: these commercials and with the and I wish I could
- 51:15Speaker 1: go back now and if I knew what I knew
- 51:17Speaker 1: when I was thirty four, when I was twenty four,
- 51:18Speaker 1: Like there's a there's a tragic part to the whole
- 51:22Speaker 1: conversation too, of just like I wish he could have
- 51:24Speaker 1: just enjoyed.
- 51:24Speaker 2: It all, you know.
- 51:25Speaker 4: Yeah, very introspective. And I also loved how much he
- 51:31Speaker 4: how like he gave his flowers to those that came
- 51:34Speaker 4: before him a lot. Like I loved him talking about, Oh,
- 51:37Speaker 4: I love his backup plan with criminology. He's like I
- 51:39Speaker 4: was gonna be in the FBI, Like I just had
- 51:41Speaker 4: this other thing I could do, but him talking about
- 51:44Speaker 4: like I was worried I would have to change my
- 51:46Speaker 4: position because no black quarterbacks were getting taken. And then
- 51:49Speaker 4: I saw Donovan mcnatgott yeah, and it was like, wait
- 51:52Speaker 4: a minute, there's a chance that I can do.
- 51:53Speaker 1: It's pretty cool. I mean, it's a really good take
- 51:55Speaker 1: on it. And like I know that this movie comes
- 51:57Speaker 1: out and I don't know if you've seen it or not.
- 51:59Speaker 1: It's on Amazon, not it whatever the thing, it's number one.
- 52:02Speaker 2: It's great.
- 52:02Speaker 1: I don't know what that means as far as you know,
- 52:04Speaker 1: for his wallet or for his production career or anything
- 52:07Speaker 1: like this. But I remember Michael Vick three years ago
- 52:10Speaker 1: tell me he's like, I'm getting on a plane to
- 52:11Speaker 1: go sit down with you know, Cam Newton. And I
- 52:15Speaker 1: was like, okay, for what it's like this project I'm
- 52:17Speaker 1: working on, and like how many athletes have like projects
- 52:19Speaker 1: they're working on here. And then it came to fruition
- 52:22Speaker 1: and it got like a red carpet you know, premiere
- 52:25Speaker 1: and it was at the Apollo and it was a
- 52:27Speaker 1: whole thing, and I just I'm so proud of him.
- 52:28Speaker 1: It was like stuck with it and it's outside his
- 52:32Speaker 1: comfort zone. He's not a filmmaker, and yet he played
- 52:34Speaker 1: such a key role. And I from what I gather,
- 52:37Speaker 1: he seems like he's really satisfied with the final product.
- 52:39Speaker 2: It's pretty cool. Yeah.
- 52:41Speaker 4: Yeah, I have not watched yet, but I'm excited too.
- 52:43Speaker 4: It was one of those things that like coming out
- 52:45Speaker 4: in the midst of the football season that's like, no,
- 52:48Speaker 4: I'm going to like pull off some time when I
- 52:51Speaker 4: can you know, set aside like an hour get into
- 52:53Speaker 4: this now. But yeah, I mean it looks great, and
- 52:57Speaker 4: he was, Yeah, I really enjoyed hearing him. He was great, great,
- 53:01Speaker 4: and he's such a pleasure to work with.
- 53:02Speaker 1: On Sundays, like it's funny you have Dan Orlowski like
- 53:06Speaker 1: breaking down film of like here's x's and o's, and
- 53:09Speaker 1: then over on you know CBS, like Matt Ryan is
- 53:12Speaker 1: doing his thing as the next quarterback. Mike comes in
- 53:15Speaker 1: and he's just like he sees things that we don't see.
- 53:18Speaker 1: So he's talking about Jayden Daniels last week and he's like,
- 53:20Speaker 1: I love the way how he talks to his teammates
- 53:22Speaker 1: on the sideline and like that's what you're watching. He's like, Oh,
- 53:25Speaker 1: that's that's what I see. He's like, I see the
- 53:27Speaker 1: fact that he just go right to the bench and
- 53:28Speaker 1: put his head in a towel, like he's over there
- 53:30Speaker 1: and he's talking. I'm like, every one of these star
- 53:32Speaker 1: quarterbacks has their own personal experiences, and for Michael Vicktt's
- 53:36Speaker 1: so it's so unique because he was such a breakthrough
- 53:40Speaker 1: athlete and such a cultural icon.
- 53:42Speaker 4: And yet you also you hear him talk. He even
- 53:45Speaker 4: said in the interview like what he what he what
- 53:47Speaker 4: the game meant to him? And then he said, and
- 53:50Speaker 4: what the locker room meant to me?
- 53:51Speaker 1: And what that brotherhood meant me.
- 53:53Speaker 4: So it makes sense that he would be the one
- 53:55Speaker 4: who's like, oh, I see Kyler going off, and then
- 53:58Speaker 4: he goes and he's talking to Marvin on the sideline
- 54:00Speaker 4: and he's like getting him hyped up, and yeah, it
- 54:02Speaker 4: was great observation and he just yeah, sounds like he
- 54:05Speaker 4: looks at it a really interesting way.
- 54:07Speaker 1: It's cool. Another great podcast episode, and we are happy
- 54:12Speaker 1: to be sponsored and presented by Uber Eats. We are
- 54:15Speaker 1: fans of uber Eats. I got an Uber eats iced coffee. Okay,
- 54:19Speaker 1: so I do the Good Morning Football Show Aaron, and
- 54:22Speaker 1: when I go out to LA which I did Monday
- 54:24Speaker 1: and Tuesday, we start the show. I'm in there at
- 54:27Speaker 1: three am, so we're not kidding. At three am it's
- 54:29Speaker 1: so early. It's it's absurd, it's it's so early. But
- 54:33Speaker 1: I need an iced coffee, as you see here, I'm
- 54:34Speaker 1: holding one here. I need a nice coffee to do anything.
- 54:36Speaker 1: But I don't like making ice coffee. If you make
- 54:39Speaker 1: an iced coffee, you have to use a coffee maker,
- 54:41Speaker 1: which they have. They got some great coffee maker there
- 54:43Speaker 1: at NFL Network. But then you have to it's hot coffee.
- 54:46Speaker 1: Then we need to do you put it to a fridge,
- 54:48Speaker 1: but then you put ice in after the fact. It's
- 54:50Speaker 1: all I like having an iced coffee that's just presented
- 54:54Speaker 1: to me. I don't know how it's made.
- 54:55Speaker 2: I don't know how it is.
- 54:56Speaker 1: Someone does something and it's just it's there. So it's
- 54:59Speaker 1: like three in the morning and I'm like, I'm not
- 55:02Speaker 1: awake yet and there's diet coke and like that. That
- 55:05Speaker 1: just sounds like a toxic way to start your day,
- 55:07Speaker 1: to have like.
- 55:08Speaker 2: Just soda in you.
- 55:09Speaker 1: So I'm like, I'm gonna uber eat a Starbucks the
- 55:14Speaker 1: second it opens. There's a Starbucks that opens in Inglewood
- 55:16Speaker 1: at like five am. I'm like, I'm gonna uber eats
- 55:19Speaker 1: one of those. So I talked to one of the
- 55:21Speaker 1: production coordinators. Great guy, I'm like if I Uber is like,
- 55:24Speaker 1: i'llubre eeds it for you, Like no, no, no, no,
- 55:26Speaker 1: no no, I will do it, and he's like, let
- 55:28Speaker 1: me do it. Within ten minutes, Uber Eats had an
- 55:32Speaker 1: iced coffee presented to me. And I was having the
- 55:35Speaker 1: best show in the world on Monday, talking about Derrick
- 55:38Speaker 1: Henry and talking about Lamar Jackson and going big on
- 55:41Speaker 1: Jaden and I think I would have been dead if
- 55:42Speaker 1: I didn't have that iced coffee. I don't personally see
- 55:46Speaker 1: a dime from uber eats. I am just telling you
- 55:48Speaker 1: this is an amazing innovation in our lexicon right now.
- 55:53Speaker 1: And if you're waking up at three am and you
- 55:55Speaker 1: can get a coffee at five am, the second Starbucks
- 55:57Speaker 1: opens and they don't deliver, but someone else does that
- 56:00Speaker 1: delivering results. And the season with Peter Scheger is delivering
- 56:03Speaker 1: results and well, presented by uber eats, and I give
- 56:06Speaker 1: a war out each week titled It's time for Delivering
- 56:09Speaker 1: Results presented by Uber Eats, and this week's winner is
- 56:12Speaker 1: Derrick Henry, thirty years old. Slow out of the gates
- 56:16Speaker 1: first two weeks, exploded against Dallas in week three and
- 56:19Speaker 1: then a week four, I had the most rushing yards
- 56:21Speaker 1: ever by a Ravens running back in a game with
- 56:23Speaker 1: one hundred and ninety nine, and then he had an
- 56:27Speaker 1: eighty seven yard run to really set the tone. And
- 56:29Speaker 1: I think everyone's back in on Baltimore. They have now
- 56:31Speaker 1: won two straight games. They're two and two, they're right
- 56:34Speaker 1: and high. They look good, and Derek Henry looks as
- 56:36Speaker 1: happier and as spry as he's ever looked before. I
- 56:41Speaker 1: would say that Derek Henry is just getting started and
- 56:44Speaker 1: he is just starting to deliver and deliver results. And
- 56:47Speaker 1: that was delivering results presented at uber eats, where you
- 56:51Speaker 1: can get the best deals on game day food all
- 56:54Speaker 1: season long and dice coffee. Uber Eats is the official
- 56:58Speaker 1: on demand delivery partner of the NFL.
- 57:01Speaker 2: Order.
- 57:02Speaker 1: Now, all right, Week five Jets go to London to
- 57:07Speaker 1: play the undefeated Vikings and Sam Darnold, their former quarterback Minnesota.
- 57:13Speaker 2: Let's see how it goes.
- 57:14Speaker 1: Big Minnesota talk last night. We're not going to do
- 57:16Speaker 1: politics here, but a lot of a lot of references
- 57:19Speaker 1: to Minneapolis and Minnesota and that vice presidential debate. And
- 57:23Speaker 1: I'm thinking about the skull Vikings, whether this is the
- 57:26Speaker 1: year they break through. We'll see. My mind is in
- 57:28Speaker 1: football till next week. We'll have another product coming shortly.
- 57:32Speaker 1: We enjoyed a conversation we have with someone else. We're
- 57:34Speaker 1: going to pop that up on the feed. But thank
- 57:36Speaker 1: you to Michael Vick, thank you to Jason English, thank
- 57:38Speaker 1: you to Aaron wan Kaufman. Thank you to all the
- 57:40Speaker 1: folks who helped with this together. Let's keep it rolling.
- 57:42Speaker 1: Michael Vick tremendous guest this week. So appreciate his time,
- 57:45Speaker 1: and we so appreciate you listening. The Season with Peter
- 57:59Speaker 1: Schrager is a production of the NFL and partnership with iHeartRadio.
