- 0:14yo, welcome back to Banter with the Boys. Gridiron
- 0:16Updates, our tent talk. You already know what
- 0:21it is. If you don't, our Tent Talk episode is
- 0:25where we go over injuries news, things like that,
- 0:28as we head into week eight here of the NFL. I'm
- 0:32Smelty, of course. Behind the camera is Kev.
- 0:36Because I always do him last. I figured I'd still
- 0:39put him behind me, of course, naturally. Typical
- 0:45me. Timeless. Timeless, yes. To my left, we have
- 0:51the flock doc in the house. Yep. Yes. Yep. He's
- 0:55very excited about that, clearly. I am. Yeah.
- 0:57To my Randy over here is the old Roberto. Squalable,
- 1:04baby. Did you just do three? No. Was it three
- 1:08whips? No. It looked like three. Hey, replay
- 1:10it. Bring it back, boys. Figure it out. Slow
- 1:12-mo. Anyway, let's just get this show on the
- 1:17road. I'm going to actually start with... Who's
- 1:19hurt? Well, I'm going to start with people that
- 1:21could be possibly coming back this week, actually.
- 1:25Really? The number one is obviously Lamar Jackson.
- 1:29Oh, gosh. The pressure's on, huh? Yeah. Obviously,
- 1:32you've been in the dark web, interwebs here,
- 1:34and trying to figure out if Lamar Jackson is
- 1:36going to play or not. Well, he's in the training
- 1:37room. He's the doc block. Yeah. But this one's
- 1:42been tough, though, because they keep not taking
- 1:45his advice. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, at some point
- 1:48it was like, hey, take the extra week. But at
- 1:50this point, right now at four and three, and
- 1:54you've got the Bills coming up this next week.
- 1:56Got to play. You want your best players out on
- 1:59the field. Pain tolerance or not at this point.
- 2:03Lamar, you're the guy. We need you out there.
- 2:07We want you and we need you out there. Because
- 2:09without you, you're timeless. But unfortunately,
- 2:16I think the jury is still out. I would like to
- 2:20hope that over the course of this next week that
- 2:22he's able to tolerate the pain with the cuts
- 2:26and the steps and everything that he's doing.
- 2:31and is it going to be able to get out there?
- 2:33But nobody knows except Lamar at this point,
- 2:37and so it's kind of a crapshoot. So is it a must
- 2:40win for the old flock this week? I mean, with
- 2:44the way that division is shaped. Yeah. And that
- 2:46puts them back to 500 if they're sitting at 4
- 2:49-3 right now. No, I wouldn't say it's a must
- 2:53win. If we fall to 4 -4, I think we're still
- 2:56going to be okay. The remainder of their schedule
- 3:00is going to be pretty tough, but also it's the
- 3:02AFC North. It's black and blue. We're going to
- 3:07beat each other up. Pretty. Timeless. Oh, my
- 3:11God. It's probably going to end up coming down
- 3:14to, like, a 9 -7 team or a 9 -8 team still winning
- 3:19it all. And at some point, the Browns are going
- 3:22to come down to earth, too. They continue to
- 3:25pull a rabbit out of their behind. Five games
- 3:28in a row now where they're just like, okay, we're
- 3:30going to play like trash, and then we're going
- 3:32to have one good drive for a win. All right,
- 3:35he's playing. I've been saying it for two weeks.
- 3:37I need him back in my fantasy team. Well, I want
- 3:41him back in my fantasy team, too. Okay, another
- 3:45player that people have been waiting on to come
- 3:47back would be Brees Hall. He's had some quadricep
- 3:50issues for a minute now, but he is likely to
- 3:53return this week, which apparently Lamar Jackson
- 3:55was also listed as. quote -unquote likely to
- 3:58return, but we've kind of felt that way for three
- 4:01weeks. So TBD, really. I mean, for A .A. Ron
- 4:05Glenn, I think it might be his job almost if
- 4:09they start no Ws in New York. For sure. Because
- 4:13what are they, two and five right now? Yep, yep.
- 4:16And we'll actually end up talking about them
- 4:17in our week eight preview and picks anyway. It's
- 4:19a good conversation to have right now about old
- 4:21Aaron Glenn and the Jets. They face the Raiders
- 4:24this week. Jeremiah Love for the Cardinals may
- 4:27also come back this week, TVD, but Cardinals
- 4:31could really use him back in the lineup as well.
- 4:34Rasheed Rice, if you listened to our last episode,
- 4:37we were talking about how the Chiefs really need
- 4:38some receiving help. Rice is very much needed,
- 4:42and he's possible to return as well, but that
- 4:44was a hamstring injury. And so we know that those
- 4:47can linger. I mean, their wide receiver, of course,
- 4:51starting to look like last year's. You know,
- 4:53I mean, that's when they started getting, you
- 4:55know, started failing. So Tyler Warren for the
- 5:00Colts was also not playing in that in that Vikings
- 5:02game this past week, looking for him to possibly
- 5:06return this week as well. A couple of guys we
- 5:09still don't know about. Brian Robinson, one of
- 5:11the one of the Robinson family members there
- 5:13in the Falcons backfield. He is. Not sure right
- 5:18now. Also dealing with a hamstring. Tajay Spears
- 5:21for the Tennessee Titans knee. He is still kind
- 5:23of uncertain currently right now. Is Winnie Poole
- 5:28a part of the Robinson family? Who? Winnie the
- 5:31Pooh? No. I'm not sure. What is the Robinson?
- 5:35Christopher Robinson family? The Swiss family
- 5:37Robinson? Swiss family Robinson. All right. Sorry.
- 5:39Great movie. It is. Okay. We're back. Yeah, Aaron
- 5:46Jones, he aggravated that MCL injury we talked
- 5:49about a little bit. MRI is currently planned,
- 5:51TBD on that. Mason was back this week for the
- 5:55Vikings. That was nice. Do we see the Vikings
- 5:59making another move at the backfield? Are you
- 6:02rubbing your fingers? What do you think? Yeah,
- 6:06I think we're making a move. Who is it for? Quinton,
- 6:12left guard. Yep. That's who I'd rather want right
- 6:17now. Oh, offensive line help. Yeah. Okay. Which
- 6:19is rumored to possibly happen for the Vikes as
- 6:22well. There's a lot of hot rumors coming out
- 6:24with the Vikes right now. Well, because I like
- 6:25the scenario because I think with Fry's contract,
- 6:28which is $19 million or something ridiculous,
- 6:31and he's probably been the worst offensive lineman
- 6:35on that squad right now. O 'Neal's been getting
- 6:39work this last few weeks too. But so with...
- 6:43Jackson probably playing next year. That's where
- 6:45I think Quinton or they could flip -flop them
- 6:48and figure that scenario out. So that's where
- 6:50instead of JT, I'd rather see them go with him
- 6:53because I think he's at the age where I think
- 6:55he'd do a little less to win. He's getting a
- 6:59little far, so it'd be a nice fill. Just because
- 7:02we're on the subject, do the Vikings make any
- 7:04other moves specifically at quarterback before
- 7:08the trade deadline happens? Who? I don't know.
- 7:12The Kirk Cousins. stuff is heating up right now
- 7:15i mean no mendoza's heating up to start there
- 7:21it's not going to be if they're going to trade
- 7:24for a quarterback it's i don't think it would
- 7:25be kirk because i still don't think you want
- 7:28mendoza playing until after the bye week yeah
- 7:31just because that road schedule is just going
- 7:34to be so brutal yeah i imagine kirk is slated
- 7:37to start this week against the jets why would
- 7:39you not right but I'm telling you, those rumors
- 7:42started coming out this past weekend, and they're
- 7:44hot right now. Would Kirk even want to come back
- 7:48to Minnesota? I mean, playoff situation, 100%.
- 7:53If I'm Kirk, if you're the Vikes, I'm not sure.
- 7:56But if you have a true running back threat, then
- 7:59the play action opens up again, which he's good
- 8:01at. And you have a couple solid targets out there.
- 8:05I'm going to have to remember to bring tinfoil
- 8:07for you next week. Yeah, I know. And just looking
- 8:09at the Raiders' schedule, they have the Jets
- 8:12next. Then it goes 49ers, Seahawks, Broncos.
- 8:19They have a gauntlet. Who, the Raiders? Yeah,
- 8:22for sure. Oh, is he grabbing the tinfoil? Oh,
- 8:28no, you saved it. You're good. Oh, there it is.
- 8:31A solid cup made by Arby's. We're looking for
- 8:34a sponsorship right there. Make a solid... To
- 8:38go to the Vikings. Sorry. Sorry. Kirkle change.
- 8:41Kirkle. Back in purple. I know. Back in purple?
- 8:46To the Ravens? If Lamar Jackson's not ready?
- 8:51No, I'm just kidding. He hasn't played that bad.
- 8:53That's more plausible. I don't know. I don't
- 8:56know. Anyway, we're going down our app all the
- 8:57way. All right, back to the injuries. Where are
- 8:59we at? Back to the injuries. Amon Ra, St. Brown.
- 9:01He's expected to play, but he's kind of dealing
- 9:03with a little nagging ankle injury right now.
- 9:06Dude's a warrior. He'll play. Of course, naturally.
- 9:08He won't take the extra week. Speaking of the
- 9:10Amon Ra and just the Lions in general, did you
- 9:12see right at the end of the game when they all
- 9:15started? Dancing? Doing emotes. Yeah. Like all
- 9:18of them. Everybody. Oh, yeah. Because Jared Goff
- 9:22got the Packers to jump off sides for that first
- 9:25time. God, it was just so funny. Oh, my God.
- 9:30Anyway, Jalen Waddell, chest injury. TBD on him
- 9:35as well for this week. So might want to pick
- 9:37up another receiver if you're listening to Roberto's
- 9:40fantasy minute, which we'll get into here in
- 9:42a second. Denver's got a few wide receivers,
- 9:44right? Yeah. They're not probably selling, though.
- 9:48Yeah. That's true. We'll see. Maybe they are.
- 9:52He's selling low. Yeah. I mean, Waddle, maybe?
- 9:59Well, I mean, if you have Waddle. Oh, in fantasy.
- 10:02He's talking fantasy -wise. Oh, all right. All
- 10:05right. The rest of these are not huge. Like,
- 10:08I don't know. We don't need to mention the rest
- 10:10of these because they could actually change here.
- 10:12Other than the fractured fibula, that's not going
- 10:13to change. That's still going to be fractured
- 10:15for Taylor Mott and the Panthers. But it is Monday
- 10:18that we're ripping this currently. Usually we
- 10:20rip on Tuesday. A lot of injury stuff comes out
- 10:22the day after. There's a game going on right
- 10:24now. But there is a game going on right now.
- 10:26It's halftime, I think. And I think Dallas is
- 10:29actually currently winning. 20 to 14, yeah. Dallas
- 10:33is. They are. I can't believe Dallas let the
- 10:35Eagles score 14. Well, and we'll talk about the
- 10:39Cowboys in our next episode as well, so don't
- 10:41forget to tune into that. And Cardinals, if you're
- 10:43a Cardinal fan. We haven't talked about them
- 10:44much this year. Anyway. You know who we didn't
- 10:48talk about? Or did I miss it? Who, me? Micah?
- 10:51We have not talked about Micah Parsons. That's
- 10:54a big one, right? Yeah. What do you got, Doc?
- 10:57I don't know. He's not on the pup list anymore.
- 11:01So he's designated as out. Okay. So he should
- 11:05be starting to practice soon. He didn't practice
- 11:08this past week. Maybe he just gets traded and
- 11:11never plays for the Packers. Back to America's
- 11:15team, the Arizona Cardinals. That's right, America's
- 11:19team, the Arizona Cardinals. Oh, ahead of the
- 11:22Rams? Yeah. Or not anymore. The Cardinals? Okay.
- 11:27I thought the Lions were in America's team right
- 11:28now. I know. Let's see. Yeah, there's really
- 11:31nothing else. Oh, hey, shout out to Harrison
- 11:33Smith getting his 40th reception. 40th, baby.
- 11:36Yeah. Congrats. 40 and 20, only one of three
- 11:39safeties to do that. Yeah, definitely Hall of
- 11:42Really Goodworthy. Well, and so that's the argument,
- 11:46right? Like, of course, most Viking fans are
- 11:48like, oh, my God, HOF. I think he'll definitely
- 11:51be a Vikings Ring of Honor player, no doubt,
- 11:53100%. And then maybe, I don't know if they wouldn't
- 11:56retire the jersey, but if they did, they'd have
- 11:58to put one up for Paul Krause, too, who still
- 12:00holds records. He's HOF. And he is HOF. Again,
- 12:07the main argument for Harrison would be what
- 12:09he has just achieved, the 40 interceptions, the
- 12:1120 sacks, which is wild from the safety. Yeah,
- 12:14big milestone. But I hear you. But, I mean, if
- 12:17you really look at it and you look at who's in
- 12:20the HOF and who's missed the HOF at his position,
- 12:23it's tough. Who's missed? I'd love to put him
- 12:27in there. Who's above him that's missed? Brian
- 12:31Dawkins isn't in the HOF, is he? No. I wasn't
- 12:35prepared to have this conversation. I just think
- 12:37about when we're talking about whether or not
- 12:39a person is Hall of Fame worthy. My brother -in
- 12:44-law and I share a similar thought process on
- 12:47this. It's like, can I tell the story or the
- 12:49history of football with or without this person?
- 12:52If I can talk about football and the history
- 12:58of football without... I can talk about the history
- 13:01of football without talking about Harrison Smith.
- 13:05If he had won a defensive player of the year
- 13:08or came in second place multiple years in a row
- 13:12or something like that, then maybe I would start
- 13:15to consider him as Hall of Fame worthy. But no
- 13:20disrespect, he's a really great player. And I
- 13:23know that Green Bay and the NFC would scheme
- 13:26around. He was one of those players where it's
- 13:30like, where's Harrison Smith on the field? But
- 13:32I just don't. I don't see it. Okay. Big picture.
- 13:38It's just me and Aaron Rodgers disagree with
- 13:40you. Brian Dawkins was HOF, by the way, 2018.
- 13:44So I should have known that because I like Brian
- 13:47Dawkins. I don't know how I didn't know that.
- 13:49Yeah, I mean, I'm trying to think of players
- 13:52to combat that thought process. I'm trying to
- 13:56think that if there's anyone then, like, there's
- 13:58the game changer that makes the HOF level. You
- 14:03know, like. Kurt Warner, would you view him as
- 14:08someone that... I think he's borderline. Just
- 14:13because he won a Super Bowl? Well, that definitely
- 14:16hurts Harrison. But he made it to 3 -1 -1, won
- 14:21MVP, which is a quarterback award. Eli Manning,
- 14:26I think, should have been a first ballot Hall
- 14:28of Famer. I agree. He just wasn't as flashy as
- 14:32everyone else. Right, absolutely. It's that on
- 14:34the field looks... dumb look on his face that's
- 14:36just like, no, that's not him. You know what
- 14:41I'm talking about. That kid can't be a good thrower.
- 14:43Yeah, you're just looking and you're just like...
- 14:44Kind of like Arch. Kind of like the way Arch
- 14:47looks. He looks a little bit like Eli. I don't
- 14:52think Phillip Rivers is Hall of Fame quarterback.
- 14:55It might be unpopular opinion. I just don't think
- 14:57he's a Hall of Famer. But he's like one of those
- 14:59borderline. That's a good comparison. We had
- 15:02this conversation last week. I don't think it
- 15:04made it there. So like if Josh Allen never wins
- 15:07a Super Bowl and we're like, oh, it would Dak
- 15:10and him be comparable. And then we kind of talked
- 15:13about it. I was like, well, no, because. Dak
- 15:16was never considered one of the best in the game
- 15:20at the time, which we could consider Josh Allen
- 15:22now one of the best in the game. So then we thought
- 15:25about who else didn't win a Super Bowl that would
- 15:29be considered. Dan Marino was one of them. I'm
- 15:33trying to think. Phillip Rivers was the other
- 15:36one that was kind of one we didn't think of.
- 15:39There was another one. Who was the other one?
- 15:44Never won a Super Bowl, though, on just about
- 15:47the top of his game. I can't remember. Either
- 15:49way. Was it Steve McNair? You don't want me to
- 15:52sit here and think, trust me. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 15:54We'll be here in a minute. We're still trying
- 15:58to think. All right, we got to move on. Hey,
- 16:00let me throw him a little fantasy minute right
- 16:02now that we're working at through. So Omar Cooper
- 16:05Jr. again, back -to -back 100 -yard games. I
- 16:10totally stole him off the free agent market last
- 16:12week. Oh, man. He's been a solid dude from Indiana.
- 16:17And then Noah Coleman, rookie running back from
- 16:21Broncos again. They're looking for some little
- 16:25flash in the pan in that Broncos offense. And
- 16:28then Seth McGowan, though, is so, like, backup
- 16:32stash if JT ends up getting sold somewhere. Put
- 16:36him on your backup list right now because he's
- 16:39going to get a ton of carries. As Vikings fans,
- 16:42we've got to see him. He looks pretty good. He's
- 16:44somewhat productive, so stash him. And then Dylan
- 16:49Sampson for the Browns is coming off IR. He's
- 16:53the pass -catching running back for the Browns.
- 16:57the feeling of junkins and junkins looked really
- 16:59nice with the browns this week so um there's
- 17:02just some guys right there you know to think
- 17:04about on the waiver wire um that you can fill
- 17:07in on your team right now right on i think i'll
- 17:10do that there's a little rob's fantasy minute
- 17:12right there just like that um let's see anything
- 17:16else you that's laying on your heart before we
- 17:18end our our episode here jake the flock doc um
- 17:23venga ione hurt his knee during the game, like
- 17:28in quarter one against the Bengals. Yep. Offense
- 17:33line, right? Yep. Their rookie kind of Swiss
- 17:36Army, because they moved him to center for a
- 17:38couple of games, then back to guard. That old
- 17:41line, just for the Ravens in general, just continues
- 17:44to be banged up and is something of concern,
- 17:46generally speaking. Vikings, I think, were good.
- 17:49I don't know, other than Aaron Jones Sr. But
- 17:56I think we came out of it healthy. Yeah. They
- 17:58said it was the first time since week one that
- 18:01Jetta's Addison, Hawkinson, and Mason. Yeah,
- 18:05your entire starting. Kyler Murray. Somebody
- 18:07else. Yeah. So that was good to see. Now Kyler's
- 18:11just got to get it to him. Nobody's in the tent.
- 18:15Yeah. No, not for Minnesota anyway. Yeah, that
- 18:19wraps this episode of Tent Talk. Here on Gridiron
- 18:22Updates. Kev, thanks for being here, of course.
- 18:25Thanks, Kev. Jake, the flock doc. Roberto over
- 18:30there. Yep. Silent. I'm Smelty, of course. Don't
- 18:35forget to like, comment, subscribe, or listen
- 18:36to the banter, whether that's YouTube, Spotify,
- 18:38Apple Podcasts, or iHeartRadio, or TikTok, I
- 18:41suppose. Talk some shmish. We got Twitter and
- 18:46Facebook as well, so go find us on there. Oh,
- 18:49Jake needs time. Okay, I'm ready. Okay, time.
- 18:51Done. All right, bye. Bye. Peace. Don't forget
- 18:56to follow, like, and subscribe. Tune in next
