- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So Mark Twain is known for saying the best way to cheer
- 0:33yourself up is to cheer someone else up.
- 0:36And I got to tell you how much I love that saying because how
- 0:41much do you enjoy giving somebody something else and
- 0:45watching their joy And maybe they don't always have joy.
- 0:49Recently I just had someone who did this and he basically took
- 0:54flowers to someone and not not in a romantic way, just to be
- 0:59kind and brighten this persons life up.
- 1:01And there was not the response that he thought he was going to
- 1:04get. And it was interesting because
- 1:07we talked about how, you know, if you want to cheer yourself
- 1:10up, cheer someone else up. He went and did it.
- 1:12And he said it kind of made me feel very different.
- 1:15Like I I wasn't sad, but I was just like, wow, I questioned
- 1:19myself. And this is what prompted this
- 1:22today because we know I've, you've heard me say many times
- 1:26before, we do things and we all have expectations behind the
- 1:29scenes, whether we're honest with it or not.
- 1:31We all know we're doing things to get something out of it.
- 1:34And it's OK to expect someone to be grateful.
- 1:36It's OK to have that little bit of like, oh, I hope they're
- 1:38happy. And then when they're not,
- 1:40you're sad. It it, it's OK.
- 1:42But the point of this is it doesn't change the rule.
- 1:45And we still know that if you really want to feel great, you
- 1:49go out and you do something great.
- 1:50Now, again, this is part of my whole thing with the chicken
- 1:54coop. I come out here because I watch
- 1:55how excited they get when I give them different types of treats.
- 1:59And they get so excited in the morning when I'm bringing stuff
- 2:02out and they're just like, oh, this is you can see them run for
- 2:05it this morning. They're having raspberries and
- 2:07they're having oatmeal and shredded zucchini and bananas
- 2:13and some leftover pasta. And they are just more than
- 2:16excited about that. And while I can't hear them say
- 2:20they're grateful, I see how excited they get when they have
- 2:22a piece of pasta and they run with it.
- 2:24It's very funny. And they're excited and I know
- 2:26it. And I feel that that's I
- 2:28translate that into myself as gratitude.
- 2:31But now let's go back to this situation where this person had
- 2:34this happen and then there was disappointment.
- 2:37And he felt like, well, geez, I mean, I guess maybe I shouldn't
- 2:41have done it. And I was like, no, did you get
- 2:43something out of going and doing the act of kindness?
- 2:46Like, what did it bring to you? And he said, well, I was happy
- 2:49to like, you know, extend something and let her know that
- 2:53I appreciate her. And I was like, exactly.
- 2:56And whether she took it the way you wanted her to or not is you
- 3:01weren't making any making her uncomfortable.
- 3:03Right? And he was like, no, she wasn't
- 3:04uncomfortable. It was almost like she couldn't
- 3:06accept somebody acknowledging her.
- 3:08And I was like, exactly. So it's something about the
- 3:10other person. It's something about where they
- 3:13are. Maybe they don't feel that
- 3:15they're worthy, but that should not impede on you doing a kind
- 3:20act and let that sit with them. Because maybe that little tidbit
- 3:23of information, maybe that crumb of you doing something
- 3:26incredibly kind will shift and all of a sudden that person will
- 3:30now be like, OK, maybe I am. And maybe they will bring up the
- 3:35topic of conversation afterwards.
- 3:37And then you'll have an opportunity to explain to them
- 3:40how much you appreciate them. And that's why you did what you
- 3:44did. So it's it's a opportunity to
- 3:47open conversation. It's an opportunity to see
- 3:50something different. It's all about opportunities,
- 3:52all about the what ifs in this case, what it, what can it, what
- 3:57can it change? How can I go ahead and say, all
- 3:59right, I'm opening up my heart and letting people know how much
- 4:03I appreciate them. You know, one of the things that
- 4:05I do is bring the eggs. I don't sell the eggs that come
- 4:09from the coop. Obviously with this many
- 4:11chickens, I've got a lot of eggs right now.
- 4:13You'd be surprised, though. It's not as much as you think
- 4:15because I've got so many. My older girls are molting and
- 4:18they look like homeless chickens that have been rapidly abused.
- 4:22They're missing feathers. They just look terrible.
- 4:25But it's just part of the natural process of feathers are
- 4:28not as good over a period of time.
- 4:31So they drop off and they get better feathers again for
- 4:34insulation and and waterproofing.
- 4:37So it's, it's fabulous. So here we go there.
- 4:41They look a certain way and they show up a certain way.
- 4:45And I have all these eggs that I get from them.
- 4:49I take all those eggs and I give them away and I've gone to the
- 4:53fire department to drop them off multiple times.
- 4:56And sometimes I have somebody that's super friendly.
- 5:00Sometimes I have a bunch of guys that come out and talk to me
- 5:02about it. And then sometimes I go and
- 5:04there's only one guy and he's not happy or grateful, doesn't
- 5:08appear to be grateful at all. And I don't care because I'm not
- 5:11doing it for that. I'm doing it for everybody else.
- 5:13And in my mind it comes back to I know I'm providing them with
- 5:17nourishment and I'm providing them with really healthy eggs.
- 5:19And I appreciate that they risk their lives every day and I have
- 5:23no problem dropping them off those eggs.
- 5:25So it's the right reason. So remember that when you do it,
- 5:28it's for the right reason. But do it anyway.
- 5:31Do it anyway, because somebody out there will be changed by
- 5:34your ACT. All right, my friends, I hope
- 5:36you have a blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 5:38Bye.
