- 0:04Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to the overl Anginal podcast. I am
- 0:06Speaker 1: your host, Scott Brady, and I am with my co
- 0:08Speaker 1: host Matt Scott in the house, and we are enjoying
- 0:11Speaker 1: a Papago Orange Blossom beer because I prefer fruity beers,
- 0:15Speaker 1: as do I.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Now.
- 0:16Speaker 1: You know, here's the people always say that we like
- 0:21Speaker 1: Gurly drinks. Yeah, they're just better. They just taste better,
- 0:24Speaker 1: Like to me, at least, I don't know, Like I
- 0:26Speaker 1: just I never got the taste for, Like I want
- 0:29Speaker 1: to drink something that's very high alcohol, it tastes like pete. Yeah.
- 0:33Speaker 1: And somehow, when you when you look like a Neanderthal,
- 0:35Speaker 1: you can drink a Gurly beer and it just seems
- 0:38Speaker 1: to be fine. I just don't care. People think so, well,
- 0:42Speaker 1: you have the advantage of not looking like a Neanderthal. Well,
- 0:45Speaker 1: I mean it's just oranges are better than dirt, or
- 0:48Speaker 1: IPAs IPAs are are like the male Okay, if the
- 0:53Speaker 1: basic B word female thing is the frappuccino. Yeah, the
- 0:57Speaker 1: basic bro thing ipa ipa. I think you're a frappucinos
- 1:01Speaker 1: for men. It's all. Yeah, it's true. No, it's true.
- 1:05Speaker 1: I can't do them. It's it's the bitter like I
- 1:07Speaker 1: can't I know, the first drink is okay, and then
- 1:10Speaker 1: you by the time you're halfway down, you're like, why
- 1:12Speaker 1: am I still drinking this? Yeah? That's how I feel.
- 1:14Speaker 1: This one's refreshing. I'm happy with my choices, and yes,
- 1:17Speaker 1: other people can be happy with theirs, even though they're
- 1:19Speaker 1: clearly inferior. So not the people, but their choices of alcohol.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Let's talk about something that's not inferior, like your new
- 1:26Speaker 1: TJ long Willbase, which is awesome. Yeah.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Yeah, And now for a quick break from one of
- 1:31Speaker 2: our supporters, let's take a minute to recognize one of
- 1:34Speaker 2: the godfathers of overlanding and onboard power and off grid towing.
- 1:38Speaker 2: The folks at red Arc build the toughest, most versatile
- 1:41Speaker 2: power management electronics known to man, and right now red
- 1:44Speaker 2: Arc is sponsoring a twenty thousand dollars vehicle upgrade and

- 2:05Speaker 2: power your wild with red art.
- 2:06Speaker 1: So I bought a two thousand and six wrangular Unlimited rubicon.
- 2:09Speaker 1: I guess in the jeep sphere that's kind of a unicorn.
- 2:12Speaker 1: It is. They're super rare. I haven't looked up the
- 2:15Speaker 1: exact production figure, but I think it's I've read that
- 2:17Speaker 1: they made ten thousand ulimited rubicons. I've read that they've
- 2:20Speaker 1: made fourteen thousand limited rubicons on the unlimiteds which, or
- 2:25Speaker 1: anybody that's not listening, they made them for two years.
- 2:27Speaker 1: While the Jeep TJ was made from ninety seven to
- 2:30Speaker 1: two thousand and six, the Unlimited was only made for
- 2:33Speaker 1: two thousand and five and two thousand and six model years,
- 2:35Speaker 1: which makes it fairly special. Yeah. I mean, by any standards,
- 2:39Speaker 1: fourteen thousand units of something is rare, right, Yeah. Yeah,
- 2:42Speaker 1: there's like very special cars that are only at fourteen thousand.
- 2:45Speaker 1: They made fourteen thousand Ferrari four or five eights. There
- 2:48Speaker 1: you go, it's just a random figure. Yeah, that's how
- 2:50Speaker 1: rare they are. Yeah. I really like it, and it's
- 2:52Speaker 1: it's kind of like Ferrari red. You're it's kind of
- 2:54Speaker 1: like Ferrai red. It would really match a match of
- 2:56Speaker 1: Ferrari really well it would you know? So, yes, I
- 2:59Speaker 1: bought this thing and I bought it on eBay. How
- 3:02Speaker 1: did that go? Listen? Like the eBay side is is
- 3:04Speaker 1: what it is. They're just the facilitator. But I will
- 3:08Speaker 1: just say that the guy didn't clean the two inches
- 3:10Speaker 1: of dog hair out of the cup holders. And I
- 3:12Speaker 1: drove it like two miles to the little country gas
- 3:15Speaker 1: station by my house, sputtering to get into the thing.
- 3:18Speaker 1: All eight control arms gone, all aftermarket stuff, all track
- 3:22Speaker 1: bars gone, and how many miles do you think we're
- 3:25Speaker 1: on that suspension that? I don't know. I think it
- 3:28Speaker 1: was like Skyjacker or some of the whatever the something
- 3:32Speaker 1: like that. Terrible, terrible. I mean literally, like the parts
- 3:35Speaker 1: were the cars from two thousand and six, So like
- 3:37Speaker 1: let's just say that they were put on in two
- 3:39Speaker 1: thousand and six. They were falling apart. I mean, the
- 3:42Speaker 1: truck only has ninety thousand miles on it. That's not
- 3:44Speaker 1: a lot of miles. That's not a lot of miles.
- 3:46Speaker 1: The OE stuff wouldn't have even been in No, in
- 3:48Speaker 1: that ship actually there was. There were two stock upper
- 3:52Speaker 1: control arms. So I came back in the back, which
- 3:56Speaker 1: are the ones you actually want to replace because of
- 3:58Speaker 1: pinion n angles. So sure. So the experience of buying
- 4:00Speaker 1: it sight unseen at night, Yeah, it was what it
- 4:03Speaker 1: was like. I got a pretty good deal on it.
- 4:05Speaker 1: That's right, you did get a fair deal on it.
- 4:06Speaker 1: I got a pretty big deal on it for it,
- 4:08Speaker 1: you know, any of the stuff that was on there,
- 4:11Speaker 1: I just had to replace. Now, that top was kind
- 4:14Speaker 1: of rare. That was the reason why we bought it.
- 4:16Speaker 1: So it had it had a paint matched Safari top
- 4:20Speaker 1: on it, the company that makes them want to say
- 4:22Speaker 1: it's great tops. It was kind of a I don't
- 4:25Speaker 1: know if it was their project vehicle or it was
- 4:27Speaker 1: like a family member's truck that they used as a
- 4:30Speaker 1: show display vehicle. So the entire jeep was repainted when
- 4:33Speaker 1: the top went on. And the cool thing with that
- 4:36Speaker 1: is that it matches perfectly nice. That's really nice. Everything's
- 4:40Speaker 1: incape on it. It's just that there were really subpar
- 4:44Speaker 1: parts put on it. And I think, you know, that
- 4:47Speaker 1: just verifies what I've been saying for a really long
- 4:49Speaker 1: time is by once cry once like I'm gonna you know,
- 4:52Speaker 1: we put Terraflex control arms and stuff on there, and
- 4:54Speaker 1: I know that that stuff will will last a long
- 4:56Speaker 1: time and it's serviceable instead of being able to replace
- 4:59Speaker 1: a bushy and I had to throw away eight control arms.
- 5:02Speaker 1: So yeah, you probably saved yourself like a big mac
- 5:05Speaker 1: by going with some you know, crappy jeep lift. But yeah,
- 5:08Speaker 1: what's the what's the long term here? That's actually the thing,
- 5:11Speaker 1: you know what I'm trying to do with this with
- 5:13Speaker 1: this LJ. So I'm trying to build a classy jeep.
- 5:15Speaker 1: And it is to me the TJ LJ shares way
- 5:21Speaker 1: more in common with a World War two jeep than
- 5:24Speaker 1: it does. Mind being a two thousand and six then
- 5:26Speaker 1: a two thousand and seven JK, there's there's not much
- 5:30Speaker 1: really in common with them on the JK side, But
- 5:34Speaker 1: this still has a tub, it still has the straight six,
- 5:36Speaker 1: It's still it's a jeep yep. Right, I'm not saying
- 5:40Speaker 1: that the jks and jails and stuff. I mean they're
- 5:42Speaker 1: immensely better vehicles. Yeah, they were revolutionary as opposed to
- 5:46Speaker 1: the TJ being evolutionary from the YJ ANDJ. And the
- 5:51Speaker 1: plan is to just kind of have like this modern
- 5:54Speaker 1: classic project that you know, we can well one it
- 5:57Speaker 1: provides some perspective for me as to how crazy these
- 6:01Speaker 1: cars have gotten. Yeah, you know, one of my dream
- 6:04Speaker 1: cars when I was in high school was was an
- 6:06Speaker 1: LJ that was like the cool that was the cool car,
- 6:09Speaker 1: that was the cool jeep. It was, it still is
- 6:11Speaker 1: the cool jeep. I'd like to have one that's just
- 6:14Speaker 1: not ruined. Unfortunately, you can't just send it to AV anymore.
- 6:18Speaker 1: You can't get the fender flares and the high line stuff,
- 6:21Speaker 1: which is if anybody is listening that has a set
- 6:23Speaker 1: of highline fenders, I will I will give you whatever
- 6:26Speaker 1: you want exactly my phone. Yeah. No, So the idea is,
- 6:33Speaker 1: you know, we're gonna do some classic looking bumpers. We're
- 6:35Speaker 1: not really going to turn it into a rock crawler
- 6:38Speaker 1: because Gladiator is probably better in most things, but this
- 6:41Speaker 1: will also easily do the Rubicon. Yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 6:45Speaker 1: You know. So it's got those dand of forty four's
- 6:47Speaker 1: and you put on some fifteen fifty two wheels, which
- 6:50Speaker 1: look great. Wheels great, yeah, yeah. So you know what
- 6:54Speaker 1: we're doing with it is that the theme is modern
- 6:56Speaker 1: classic and with this Safari top, I think it's going
- 6:59Speaker 1: to be a real, really fascinating project. You know, we're
- 7:02Speaker 1: going to be talking about it on exhibition portal. We're
- 7:04Speaker 1: going to be talking about it as a company project
- 7:06Speaker 1: through through Adventure imports on our social so that'll start
- 7:09Speaker 1: kind of launching here soon. We're trying to do it
- 7:11Speaker 1: back to basics vehicle. We're not trying to make an
- 7:14Speaker 1: old truck new. You know the amount of work that
- 7:17Speaker 1: you have to do to put thirty fives on a
- 7:20Speaker 1: TJ or an LJ is I mean you are? You
- 7:22Speaker 1: are cutting everything off, yeah, and welding on rock Crawler
- 7:27Speaker 1: three link whatever you know, suspension, which is just not
- 7:30Speaker 1: something that we're interested in doing. I could buy a
- 7:32Speaker 1: stock JL rubicon for less money and have more capability
- 7:37Speaker 1: right right off the bat. I know some people will
- 7:40Speaker 1: argue with that, but come at me, bro with your
- 7:44Speaker 1: I PA, with your I p A. Yeah, so it'll
- 7:47Speaker 1: be it'll be fun, you know. Dakar, our rescue greyhound,
- 7:51Speaker 1: loves it. We got perfect bed. We took the back
- 7:53Speaker 1: car transport well with the Safari top he can like
- 7:56Speaker 1: launch himself into because he's a very big dog. You
- 7:58Speaker 1: can launch himself into the back and he doesn't like
- 8:00Speaker 1: hit anything. Yeah. Then he has this bed that's half
- 8:03Speaker 1: the size of Texas in the back and he has
- 8:05Speaker 1: like this little little window on the Safari top that
- 8:08Speaker 1: he like sticks his nose out and like it's so perfect.
- 8:11Speaker 1: It's it's it's it's. Uh. I was looking at CJ's,
- 8:14Speaker 1: I was looking at FJA forty's, I was looking at
- 8:16Speaker 1: Series land Rovers, I was looking at Defenders. I really
- 8:20Speaker 1: wanted a Defender ninety, but I just like, yeah, it's
- 8:23Speaker 1: a big investment. Yeah, and I just if I do
- 8:26Speaker 1: want to use it, I just I don't. I don't
- 8:28Speaker 1: trust those vehicles really at all the stuff that you
- 8:31Speaker 1: can get, you're either getting a questionable import at this point, yeah,
- 8:36Speaker 1: or you're getting, like, you know, something that somebody has
- 8:39Speaker 1: touched in an effort to make a bunch of money
- 8:41Speaker 1: on and flip it. And you know they put quilted
- 8:43Speaker 1: northern seats everywhere, like with like the cross stitching because
- 8:47Speaker 1: apparently that just makes an agricultural tractor luxury vehicle. So yeah,
- 8:52Speaker 1: that that whole the whole Defender thing just got really annoying.
- 8:55Speaker 1: So we uh kind of are just going to do
- 8:58Speaker 1: our own thing. It's perfect. It's a classic car that
- 9:01Speaker 1: just happens to have been built in two thousand and six. Yeah,
- 9:04Speaker 1: it's perfect. It's one of those things that you know,
- 9:06Speaker 1: it kept going whether or not the TJ in hindsight
- 9:10Speaker 1: should have run as long as it did, knowing how
- 9:13Speaker 1: much of an evolution the JK was. It's just it's interesting.
- 9:16Speaker 1: It's a fun jeep to drive round. It's fun. It's fun.
- 9:18Speaker 1: That's what it should be. We're not gonna, you know,
- 9:20Speaker 1: do any kind of crazy lifts or anything that. The
- 9:22Speaker 1: plan is to build a simple vehicle that is attainable
- 9:25Speaker 1: for most people, most you know what we're doing to Granted,
- 9:28Speaker 1: this LJ applies to stuff that people can do in
- 9:31Speaker 1: a you know, in a YJ or a TJ or anything.
- 9:34Speaker 1: The idea is that you don't need, you know, every widget,
- 9:37Speaker 1: you don't need massive tires, you don't need crazy suspension
- 9:41Speaker 1: on the TJ's. I remember, the only new car I
- 9:44Speaker 1: ever bought up until recently was a two thousand TJ,
- 9:48Speaker 1: so I had it. I had a two thousand TJ
- 9:50Speaker 1: Sahara that I bought when I was still working in manufacturing.
- 9:54Speaker 1: It was the first time I've ever bought a new car. Yeah,
- 9:57Speaker 1: I bought it down in Phoenix. I mean it was
- 9:59Speaker 1: like I felt like I like won the personal lottery
- 10:01Speaker 1: that I just finally got to that point in my
- 10:02Speaker 1: life I could afford a car payment like that, and
- 10:05Speaker 1: that I could afford to have a new vehicle. And
- 10:08Speaker 1: I had this venture Craft trailer that was this little
- 10:11Speaker 1: pop top trailer and it was also white, and I
- 10:13Speaker 1: put matching Sahara fenders on it. And I did very
- 10:18Speaker 1: little to that vehicle. I did an ARB front bumper
- 10:21Speaker 1: to it and a Warren winch and I installed a
- 10:25Speaker 1: two inch Terraflex suspension system on it with the lower
- 10:29Speaker 1: control arms so I could adjust for the death wobble
- 10:32Speaker 1: and all that stuff. Yep, And that was it. I
- 10:35Speaker 1: eventually put some steel TJ wheels on it with thirty
- 10:40Speaker 1: three by ten fifty tires on it eventually, but I
- 10:43Speaker 1: ran the stock one stock tires for a long time.
- 10:45Speaker 1: The thing I didn't like about it was the three
- 10:47Speaker 1: speed automatic. That was terrible, and as so is yours
- 10:51Speaker 1: worse speed. But it's electronically controlled, Okay, so that's a
- 10:55Speaker 1: big advantage. The three speed was really the same trends
- 10:58Speaker 1: that carried over into the JK. Okay, I'm not saying
- 11:01Speaker 1: that it's great. Yeah, I'm just saying that it's better
- 11:04Speaker 1: than way better than a three speed, And yeah, yeah,
- 11:06Speaker 1: the three speed was rough, but it was such a
- 11:08Speaker 1: fun vehicle and I drove it all over Arizona. I
- 11:11Speaker 1: mean it was so capable right out of the box.
- 11:13Speaker 1: I mean it's just incredible how how capable a stock
- 11:17Speaker 1: wrangler is, even of that era. A mutual friend of ours,
- 11:20Speaker 1: Brian Deerman, around the same time when I started to
- 11:23Speaker 1: meet all these guys on the various forums, when before
- 11:26Speaker 1: everything was even called overlanding. This was back in the
- 11:28Speaker 1: full drive Trips forum days. And uh and Brian Deerman,
- 11:33Speaker 1: who's been a longtime member of the community, goes to
- 11:35Speaker 1: the Overland expos well traveled. He had he bought a
- 11:39Speaker 1: maybe what was the first year of the Rubicon TJ
- 11:42Speaker 1: two thousand and three, Okay, so he bought the first
- 11:44Speaker 1: year of the Rubicon and he because he wanted to
- 11:47Speaker 1: not affect the warranty, he drove that thing everywhere stock like, well,
- 11:51Speaker 1: they had bone stock there. The form factor of them
- 11:55Speaker 1: is what really gives them the capability there. Yeah, they're
- 11:57Speaker 1: pretty small vehicles. You know, the axe stick out much
- 12:00Speaker 1: farther than entires, stick out much further than the body.
- 12:03Speaker 1: You know, amazing approach, amazing departure, you know, amazing ish
- 12:07Speaker 1: breakover because they had that the transmission skid plate or
- 12:12Speaker 1: transfer case skid plate like hangs way down it does. Yeah,
- 12:15Speaker 1: they're fascinating, but it was cool just to I remember
- 12:18Speaker 1: this was early in like my more four wheeling centric days,
- 12:23Speaker 1: and Ryan went He did all the trips that we did,
- 12:26Speaker 1: all the stuff we did down to Mexico. He also
- 12:28Speaker 1: did all of the really hard trails that we did
- 12:30Speaker 1: in Arizona. And then in I think maybe around two
- 12:33Speaker 1: thousand and four, I did my first trip across the
- 12:37Speaker 1: Rubicon and I had a YJ at that point that
- 12:40Speaker 1: I had done like the full ARB kit too. And
- 12:43Speaker 1: the reason why I did that is when I was
- 12:44Speaker 1: in the Air Force, I went on this club run
- 12:46Speaker 1: one time in Idaho and there was this couple that
- 12:49Speaker 1: showed up with a like a brand new YJ that
- 12:51Speaker 1: the ARB catalog had been thrown at and it had
- 12:54Speaker 1: like thirty three nine fifties old man EMU air lockers
- 12:58Speaker 1: front and rear. It was so clean, and I just
- 13:00Speaker 1: remember just being wide eyed, like this is the coolest
- 13:03Speaker 1: jeep I've ever seen. And of course it did everything
- 13:06Speaker 1: on the club run easily because it was dual locked,
- 13:08Speaker 1: and most of us could maybe a four to locker
- 13:10Speaker 1: for the rear or whatever. So I always wanted to
- 13:13Speaker 1: build a YJ like that, and I did. I ended
- 13:15Speaker 1: up building a really nice YJA. It was the first
- 13:18Speaker 1: vehicle I drove across the Rubicon. But the guy that
- 13:20Speaker 1: came along, and his name escapes me right now, but
- 13:23Speaker 1: he also had a stock two thousand and three two
- 13:26Speaker 1: thousand and four Rubicon TJ unmodified and we went through
- 13:31Speaker 1: the whole Rubicon together and zero Neither of us had
- 13:34Speaker 1: any issues. I think I bent my exhaust a little bit. Yeah,
- 13:38Speaker 1: I just remember being terrified as I first went into
- 13:40Speaker 1: the Gatekeeper, back when there was a gate keeper on
- 13:42Speaker 1: the Rubicon, and there was these huge rock crawlers all
- 13:46Speaker 1: around getting welded and grinders are going and I'm thinking,
- 13:49Speaker 1: what have I done? I'm never going to And of
- 13:51Speaker 1: course it was no big deal if you just drive
- 13:53Speaker 1: on the main trail and not drive like an idiot.
- 13:56Speaker 1: But yeah, it was such a fun experience and it
- 13:58Speaker 1: shows just how capable these very stock or near stock
- 14:02Speaker 1: vehicles really are. Yeah. I mean, I think the process
- 14:06Speaker 1: that we've had with ours starting to build it. You know,
- 14:10Speaker 1: we have some longer term, really fun plans with the car,
- 14:14Speaker 1: and kind of, like I was saying initially that it
- 14:17Speaker 1: showed up in a lot worse shape than we thought
- 14:19Speaker 1: it was, so we kind of had to do a
- 14:21Speaker 1: laterally fix the stuff so we could actually drive it.
- 14:24Speaker 1: It's a nice thing to be able to go back
- 14:27Speaker 1: to the TJLJ because it makes you realize how much
- 14:31Speaker 1: Jeep has actually listened to their customer. Yeah. I think
- 14:34Speaker 1: if you walked into the Jeep world in JK or
- 14:38Speaker 1: even JL you're like, oh, these things are just amazing,
- 14:42Speaker 1: Like thirty sevens, Yeah, cool, whatever. Well, if I want
- 14:45Speaker 1: to put thirty sevens on my LJ, and I want
- 14:48Speaker 1: to do it right, it's a huge endeavor. It's a process.
- 14:51Speaker 1: Like I mean, you're talking axles, you're talking I mean,
- 14:55Speaker 1: it's highline vendors all that. It's a big deal. And
- 14:58Speaker 1: I think that we kind of get it's a little
- 15:00Speaker 1: too comfortable with how easy these vehicles are to modify,
- 15:04Speaker 1: because clearly somebody's kind of been listening, Like the fact
- 15:07Speaker 1: that I can do a basic two inch lift. I
- 15:10Speaker 1: mean I'm talking I do springs, and I do shocks
- 15:14Speaker 1: and like some swaybar extensions, a factory mopar lift on
- 15:18Speaker 1: a JL or a Gladiator. If it's thirty seven inch tires, Yeah,
- 15:22Speaker 1: I would have to. I would have to cut everything
- 15:25Speaker 1: basically down to a bare frame if I wanted to
- 15:27Speaker 1: do it right to do thirty seven's on that car.
- 15:30Speaker 1: So that's why when you're on the Rubicon so much
- 15:32Speaker 1: stuff was breaking is because Billy Bob decided to weld
- 15:35Speaker 1: this on there and the other thing. We never mind
- 15:38Speaker 1: with that. But the thing that we've realized, it's really
- 15:40Speaker 1: hard to get good quality, cheap stuff. Right. We bought
- 15:43Speaker 1: a lot of products for us initially that we just
- 15:45Speaker 1: ended up sending back because we're like, you sell this
- 15:48Speaker 1: to people? Yeah, you know, And why do you think
- 15:50Speaker 1: that is? I don't know the amount of junk suspension
- 15:54Speaker 1: stuff that is out there for the TJ, the amount
- 15:57Speaker 1: of junk bumpers. I don't know if people these vehicles
- 16:00Speaker 1: as being disposable, yeah, or maybe it's just a so
- 16:04Speaker 1: it looks a certain way. Maybe yeah, maybe it's not.
- 16:07Speaker 1: They're not functional accessories. The stuff that is very functional
- 16:12Speaker 1: has a just a drastically different esthetic than what I'm
- 16:16Speaker 1: looking for, you know, I want to be able to
- 16:18Speaker 1: I always say in an overland truck, I want to
- 16:20Speaker 1: be able to hit a deer and I want to
- 16:22Speaker 1: be able to not be stranded. Well, when you cut
- 16:25Speaker 1: the fenders off and you're running a hood and a
- 16:28Speaker 1: bumper that's two inches wider than your frame, rails like,
- 16:30Speaker 1: that's the style, yeah, for tjs and ljs and everything
- 16:34Speaker 1: right now is to turn it into this rockcroller. Yeah,
- 16:37Speaker 1: even though I mean, I guess if you're looking for
- 16:40Speaker 1: a body and a frame, sure, I mean you're replacing
- 16:43Speaker 1: everything else, So I think they can work. And that's
- 16:46Speaker 1: maybe the joy of the jeep is that you can
- 16:49Speaker 1: buy a stock one, take the top off, and just
- 16:50Speaker 1: have an awesome daily driver. You can also take a
- 16:54Speaker 1: JK or a JL slap forties on it with some
- 16:57Speaker 1: axle upgrades, and that works too as a rock crawler.
- 17:00Speaker 1: And then you can also easily travel with them. And
- 17:03Speaker 1: part of what inspired us to want to talk about
- 17:06Speaker 1: the TJ and the TJ long willbase is the fact
- 17:09Speaker 1: that people like Dan Grek the Pan American and yeah,
- 17:13Speaker 1: when he drove the Pan American Highway, he took a
- 17:15Speaker 1: soft top stalker TJ and did the entire length of
- 17:19Speaker 1: it and had a great time. And I think one
- 17:22Speaker 1: of the things that's most endearing about his story is
- 17:25Speaker 1: that he had dreadlocks and this guy just wanted to
- 17:28Speaker 1: go travel to Ushuaia and he's like, I'm going to
- 17:31Speaker 1: take my jeep and he didn't even think about what
- 17:34Speaker 1: stuff do I have to put on it? Or how
- 17:36Speaker 1: do I need to modify this vehicle? He literally with
- 17:39Speaker 1: a soft top, like the things that we would never
- 17:41Speaker 1: recommend people do, he did with ease, and like he
- 17:45Speaker 1: didn't get his jeep stolen. And you think about a
- 17:47Speaker 1: soft top, like, oh, you're going to get well, so
- 17:49Speaker 1: here's whatever is you know. Yeah, the idea of driving
- 17:52Speaker 1: a TJ to Uya sounds crazy, but the idea of
- 17:57Speaker 1: driving a BJ seventy with order of the horsepower and
- 18:01Speaker 1: worse suspension suddenly sounds great or FJ forty sounds or romantic, right,
- 18:06Speaker 1: you know? This is to me the TJ is that
- 18:09Speaker 1: if we think, if we were to fast forward ten
- 18:12Speaker 1: fifteen years, think how archaic that vehicle is going to be.
- 18:16Speaker 1: It's a steel tub. Yeah, you know, there's not much
- 18:19Speaker 1: going on with it. There's really no does it have abs?
- 18:24Speaker 1: Some of them did later? I think it does. I
- 18:26Speaker 1: think mine would because that's an six. But you know,
- 18:28Speaker 1: maybe they have a ABS like bedlining the inside is
- 18:31Speaker 1: a upgrade. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, I think that's what makes them.
- 18:36Speaker 1: I think a unique consideration is that they're not that
- 18:39Speaker 1: expensive when you compare it to most jeeps. Jeeps will
- 18:42Speaker 1: always be expensive for their time because they're timeless, right,
- 18:46Speaker 1: so they'll always be valuable, which is another thing that
- 18:49Speaker 1: I think makes them an advantage. So you do something
- 18:51Speaker 1: like Dan Grek did, where you drive this TJ all
- 18:54Speaker 1: the way down, I bet you can bring that thing
- 18:56Speaker 1: back and sell it essentially what you bought it for. Well,
- 18:58Speaker 1: and the parts are so cheap. I want to say
- 19:00Speaker 1: I've said before like that the XJ is a great,
- 19:03Speaker 1: a great vehicle to travel in, because but an XJ
- 19:06Speaker 1: and a TJR functionally the same thing for most of
- 19:10Speaker 1: their drive line componentry, and things like after going through
- 19:14Speaker 1: the eighty series thing of seventeen hundred dollars factory alternator
- 19:19Speaker 1: for that car, parts are just insanely expensive. Now, now
- 19:23Speaker 1: that's Toyota stuff and the quality of early nineties Toyota
- 19:27Speaker 1: versus mid two thousands Chrysler. The Toyota stuff is still
- 19:31Speaker 1: better full shop. You're looking at fifteen dollars high right ends.
- 19:35Speaker 1: So yeah, there's your point is that you can you
- 19:37Speaker 1: can take that cheap to whoever you want. Any mechanic
- 19:40Speaker 1: can work on that. If a mechanic can't work on
- 19:42Speaker 1: a TJ, they shouldn't be a mechanic. Run. Yeah, exactly, run.
- 19:47Speaker 1: And I wonder, I wonder how prolific they were down
- 19:50Speaker 1: in South America. I know that they got them in Argentina,
- 19:53Speaker 1: but I don't know much about where else they were
- 19:55Speaker 1: in South America. But they don't really have that I mean,
- 19:58Speaker 1: like I had a ninety nine Tea J that was
- 20:00Speaker 1: the terrible one, you know, when when I first worked
- 20:03Speaker 1: here in but that was I remember even then, like
- 20:05Speaker 1: you you had a love for that car because it
- 20:08Speaker 1: was like your first world drive. And I just like,
- 20:10Speaker 1: there's something about TJ's to me that are just simple, yea,
- 20:14Speaker 1: Like I don't think that a TJ is trying to
- 20:16Speaker 1: be anything. Like you don't see TJ's with the angry
- 20:21Speaker 1: grills that people put on their cars. You don't see
- 20:26Speaker 1: very many frowning grills on TJ like like very frumpy looking,
- 20:30Speaker 1: you know, I mean, you do see some horrible like
- 20:33Speaker 1: that was like the era of shitty built right, like
- 20:36Speaker 1: terrible like products that were knocked off by company A,
- 20:40Speaker 1: then knocked off by company B, then knocked off by
- 20:43Speaker 1: company C, and they just maybe Burt comes along and
- 20:47Speaker 1: you know, knocks off the fourth knockoff of the roof
- 20:50Speaker 1: Remember that like roof rack that I bought, not knowing
- 20:54Speaker 1: any different than you, Like it was just like a wobble. Yeah,
- 20:57Speaker 1: like you could you know, it could have been made
- 20:59Speaker 1: of straw. Yeah. You couldn't put anything up there safely. Nothing, nothing.
- 21:03Speaker 1: There's again, there's just there's so many bad parts for
- 21:06Speaker 1: these things. And I think what I'm you know, one
- 21:08Speaker 1: of the reasons why I'm I'm doing this project is
- 21:10Speaker 1: I think that some of these things need to be saved. Yeah,
- 21:13Speaker 1: they can't all be cut up into buggies. Yeah, just
- 21:17Speaker 1: just buy UTV at that point, Like, I don't know
- 21:20Speaker 1: why you're spending forty thousand dollars on you know, generate suspension,
- 21:23Speaker 1: even though it's awesome. Yeah, when you can get like
- 21:26Speaker 1: twenty eight inches of travel, a lot of a can
- 21:28Speaker 1: m Yeah, but I think that's what's happening. I think
- 21:31Speaker 1: a lot of that is happening. Yeah, which is good.
- 21:33Speaker 1: That way people can they can do their UTV thing
- 21:36Speaker 1: and do their day trips. I mean, you know, I'm
- 21:39Speaker 1: I'm in a weird environment. I'm I recognize that I'm
- 21:41Speaker 1: that I'm super fortunate to have the things that I have.
- 21:44Speaker 1: I mean, I work fourteen hours a day so I
- 21:45Speaker 1: can have them. But and I take a lot of risk.
- 21:48Speaker 1: But to have the earth Roamer and the Gladiator. You know,
- 21:51Speaker 1: I've always had a lot of redundancy, whether that's because
- 21:54Speaker 1: of business needs or my vehicle add at the time.
- 21:59Speaker 1: But I'm excited to go to moeb in this thing,
- 22:02Speaker 1: throw my swag in the back with my dog and
- 22:04Speaker 1: like you're cooler and just like kind of go back
- 22:07Speaker 1: to basics. I'm excited to take it down to Baja. Yeah,
- 22:11Speaker 1: you know, just run it down the beach in San
- 22:13Speaker 1: Felipe or or whatever. You know. It's maybe not something
- 22:18Speaker 1: that I want to live out of for an extended
- 22:20Speaker 1: period of time, but it's just fun. It's it's it's
- 22:23Speaker 1: like a four wheel motorcycle. It's a dirt Harley. I
- 22:25Speaker 1: mean that's kind of what Jk's or sorry, what what
- 22:28Speaker 1: TJ's are. It seems in Prescott, at least there's so
- 22:31Speaker 1: many impressed. I mean, there's so many jeeps in Prescott,
- 22:34Speaker 1: it's crazy there are, but certainly the most popular vehicle
- 22:37Speaker 1: that I see around town. I think the problem with
- 22:39Speaker 1: the TJ is like, how do you build it? Which
- 22:43Speaker 1: direction to you? Do you go with it? Because these
- 22:46Speaker 1: older vehicles, as parts become scarce, the prices go up,
- 22:50Speaker 1: and then you have to start maintaining vehicles and replacing
- 22:53Speaker 1: things while you're in there, and there's no more aev
- 22:56Speaker 1: suspension for TJ. I don't know, Dave, Dave, are you listening, Dave? Dave? Yeah?
- 23:02Speaker 1: How about a limited run of the high line vendors? Dave? So,
- 23:08Speaker 1: what what is the go to suspension options? Right now?
- 23:12Speaker 1: Let's say you want to go with an inch and
- 23:14Speaker 1: a half to two inches of lift? What do you
- 23:15Speaker 1: typically look at? What are the couple high point? Well,
- 23:18Speaker 1: an inch and a half. So this is the thing.
- 23:19Speaker 1: An inch and a half or two inches of lift
- 23:21Speaker 1: gets you a thirty one inch tire on that car, right,
- 23:24Speaker 1: Like the Rubicon came with thirties stock, they were like
- 23:29Speaker 1: thirty point fives, they were thirty by nine fifties. Yeah,
- 23:31Speaker 1: basically two forty five sixty five sixteens something like that. Yeah,
- 23:38Speaker 1: so we've decided to run like a two eighty five
- 23:42Speaker 1: seventy five sixteen, which is just under a thirty three
- 23:45Speaker 1: inch tire, and we need four inches of lift to
- 23:48Speaker 1: do that, which just like like blows my mind because
- 23:50Speaker 1: you can put that on anything like the Gladiator comes
- 23:53Speaker 1: with that stock now stock. Yeah, so, as far as
- 23:56Speaker 1: I don't really know, there's so many options that are
- 23:58Speaker 1: out there. Now, what did you go with yours? We did.
- 24:01Speaker 1: We're working right now with what was on the jeep.
- 24:04Speaker 1: As far as the springs, we had to do JKS
- 24:07Speaker 1: track bars because of how the frame side was previously
- 24:12Speaker 1: drilled out for a HIM joint. Other than that, we're
- 24:14Speaker 1: going to pretty much stick to Terraflex on everything. They
- 24:17Speaker 1: still seem to support that vehicle very much. So, yeah,
- 24:20Speaker 1: you know where a lot of other companies have just
- 24:22Speaker 1: moved on, which maybe that's why there's so much crap
- 24:26Speaker 1: out for these is there's just I don't know if
- 24:28Speaker 1: there's on a market for it or what. But yeah,
- 24:30Speaker 1: we did, we did the Terraflex arms. And what do
- 24:32Speaker 1: they have for bushings? They have a rubber bushing in
- 24:35Speaker 1: one end and then kind of a Johnny joint style.
- 24:37Speaker 1: On the other it's really really hard to get away
- 24:40Speaker 1: from any kind of performance joint or substance for noise, right. Yeah,
- 24:46Speaker 1: and literally the best that we could find was was
- 24:50Speaker 1: an arm that had it just on one which then
- 24:52Speaker 1: still attenuates some of that and then it does give
- 24:55Speaker 1: us the flex. You know. Again, like going back to
- 24:58Speaker 1: how much work these things take to get mediocre performance
- 25:02Speaker 1: out of them by modern standards, there's a lot that
- 25:05Speaker 1: you have to do. You know. The kit that I
- 25:07Speaker 1: would like to do is this ter reflex long arm
- 25:11Speaker 1: Orange kit, because right now the angles on my control
- 25:15Speaker 1: arms are It's probably why the other ones failed so miserably. Yeah,
- 25:19Speaker 1: you think every impact, every impact is just it's not
- 25:23Speaker 1: letting the suspension go upwards and travel through a normal range.
- 25:26Speaker 1: A lot of that energy is just going right into
- 25:28Speaker 1: the joints, exactly exactly. I think a long arm makes
- 25:31Speaker 1: a lot of sense. There's also these these mid arm
- 25:34Speaker 1: kits that gen Wright and Savvy do. Those are definitely
- 25:37Speaker 1: the high end, but these are so much of these
- 25:40Speaker 1: jeeps are like still of the King of the Hammers
- 25:42Speaker 1: rock crawling era. In the same way that you know
- 25:45Speaker 1: that the destiny of the Gladiator and the Forerunner, and
- 25:51Speaker 1: that's a coma is to become an Overlain style truck.
- 25:54Speaker 1: The destiny of the TJ was set in ninety seven
- 25:57Speaker 1: because that was the big thing, to be a rock crawler. Yeah,
- 26:01Speaker 1: so there's really nobody. Nobody is going back to revisit
- 26:04Speaker 1: these old platforms because people already had that day, moved
- 26:08Speaker 1: on to the JKA and the jail. And now for
- 26:14Speaker 1: a quick break from one of our supporters, on X
- 26:16Speaker 1: off Road.
- 26:17Speaker 2: If you're driving or writing on dirt this summer, don't
- 26:20Speaker 2: leave home without the on X off Road GPS app.
- 26:24Speaker 2: For less than a tank of gas, get access to
- 26:27Speaker 2: five hundred and fifty thousand miles of trails and roads

- 27:03Speaker 2: at checkout for twenty percent off right now, thanks Onyx.
- 27:10Speaker 1: There's no empirical reason to choose an LJ yeah, or
- 27:15Speaker 1: a TJ for overland travel over anything made after it,
- 27:20Speaker 1: except for there's a file. There's a funk. Yeah, there's
- 27:23Speaker 1: a funk factor that I think is really charming. I
- 27:25Speaker 1: love it. I mean, I've seen some really nice, clean
- 27:29Speaker 1: long wheelbase TJ's out there. You know, you look at
- 27:31Speaker 1: like a white long wheelbase with a little bit of
- 27:34Speaker 1: a lift, or an original Rubicon Yeah, with the with
- 27:38Speaker 1: the kind of classic like the tan hard top. I
- 27:41Speaker 1: think they look great. Put an airb bumper on the
- 27:43Speaker 1: front of it. Well, that's what we're doing, is we're
- 27:45Speaker 1: we're just we're trying to make it just a classic
- 27:47Speaker 1: looking vehicle. Whenever you get a new car, you're like,
- 27:50Speaker 1: what can I do to it? Since this is basically
- 27:53Speaker 1: a buggy by modern standards. The two thousand and three
- 27:58Speaker 1: to two thousand and eight ramuck Hemi powertrain slides in
- 28:03Speaker 1: real nice. So is that version two point I don't know, man,
- 28:08Speaker 1: I like, I know that I shouldn't and it's a
- 28:10Speaker 1: horrible idea, but there's just something about having like a
- 28:14Speaker 1: four hundred horsepower little tiny jeep to run around town.
- 28:19Speaker 1: That just like although like we we you know, we've
- 28:21Speaker 1: started to do some trail runs and stuff now with
- 28:24Speaker 1: it that it's uh, it's it's not going to just
- 28:27Speaker 1: evaporate into a million pieces of four wheel parts crap,
- 28:30Speaker 1: you know, so it still rides like junk. You know.
- 28:34Speaker 1: It's like you kind of get spoiled. Yeah, Like you
- 28:37Speaker 1: get into the Gladiator and you have proper control, arm geometry,
- 28:41Speaker 1: you have thirty seven fixed so much, you have kings
- 28:44Speaker 1: like they it's so much better. And then you like
- 28:47Speaker 1: go into the parking lot at your trailhead and you're like, exactly,
- 28:53Speaker 1: it's like you have you have to air down just
- 28:55Speaker 1: to hear yourself think yeah, yeah, exactly. So I'd like
- 28:59Speaker 1: to do stupid things that would be a fun one though.
- 29:02Speaker 1: I me mean, I would love to just have this
- 29:04Speaker 1: ridiculous resto mode TJ. Like I'm gonna get excited here,
- 29:07Speaker 1: Like if I could put like I want to say
- 29:09Speaker 1: that the six to one SRT engine is what is
- 29:13Speaker 1: most appropriate for that vehicle. You can do the three
- 29:16Speaker 1: ninety two six' four and all that, again but slower next.
- 29:19Speaker 1: Time the six point one leader SRT HEMI v Eight
- 29:26Speaker 1: that would be so, Insane, like how do you not
- 29:28Speaker 1: die when you put that in? THERE i, mean you
- 29:30Speaker 1: can put a hell cat in there if you, Really but,
- 29:32Speaker 1: again how do you not die with you, know nineteen
- 29:35Speaker 1: sixties suspension technology and seven hundred? Horsepower how do you not?
- 29:41Speaker 1: Die very, CAREFUL i, GUESS i mean it really is
- 29:44Speaker 1: nineteen sixties suspension. Technology like, honestly anything that jeep put
- 29:48Speaker 1: on that car in the suspension department you pretty much
- 29:51Speaker 1: have to. Replace, Yeah like they just had a different
- 29:54Speaker 1: purpose back. Then they really. DID i, mean the the
- 29:56Speaker 1: if you look at the THE, yj and definitely THE
- 30:00Speaker 1: tj was an evolution in the positive. Way but these
- 30:03Speaker 1: were light duty. Vehicles these were meant to be used
- 30:07Speaker 1: for the day you put a couple sleeping bags in the.
- 30:10Speaker 1: Back maybe they. Were they weren't really good with a hard,
- 30:13Speaker 1: top they were better with a soft. Top they were
- 30:15Speaker 1: really just meant to be these light duty. Recreations they
- 30:18Speaker 1: were THEIR utv of their, day and they just really
- 30:23Speaker 1: aren't meant to be overpowered or overdriven or. Overtired they're
- 30:29Speaker 1: really not intended for. That so that's the that's the, thing,
- 30:32Speaker 1: right as you can recognize the vehicle for what it
- 30:34Speaker 1: is and that's that's the smart, choice or you can
- 30:38Speaker 1: put a hemy in. It, yeah AND i have to,
- 30:40Speaker 1: say like it doesn't ride. BAD I i really think if,
- 30:43Speaker 1: Well mike mcmad's brute is sitting over, here And i'm just, Like,
- 30:46Speaker 1: mike if you don't pick that thing, Up i'm gonna
- 30:48Speaker 1: start stealing parts from. It because he's got all that
- 30:50Speaker 1: aav n degree, suspension LIKE i, know it's all, there
- 30:54Speaker 1: like when you lift A tj or AN lj like three.
- 30:58Speaker 1: Inches the spring is that like it's it's like an.
- 31:02Speaker 1: Arc it's like it's like a thirty degree. RADIUS i
- 31:05Speaker 1: mean it's it's it's. Weird so you have to like
- 31:07Speaker 1: cut that off and like relocate it so like the
- 31:10Speaker 1: center of the hoop of the axle. Hoop i'm calling
- 31:14Speaker 1: it a. HOOP i don't know Why i'm calling it a.
- 31:15Speaker 1: Hoop he's got the little widget that does that from,
- 31:18Speaker 1: me and he's got the like the control arm relocation
- 31:21Speaker 1: brackets which move them DOWN i want to, say like
- 31:23Speaker 1: three or four, inches so they're like everything. Stock you
- 31:26Speaker 1: can't get that stuff, anymore, no you, can't you, know
- 31:29Speaker 1: which is fascinating to, me AND i think that that's
- 31:33Speaker 1: because they need. It, yeah for, me IF i was
- 31:36Speaker 1: going to focus on The PINNACLE, tj it really is
- 31:40Speaker 1: the brute that's part next door here at the. Office,
- 31:44Speaker 1: yeah But dak doesn't fit in, it that's. True but for,
- 31:46Speaker 1: me For Scott eversion to have the truck that dog,
- 31:51Speaker 1: sits consider the. Console that's. True that's so. True it's
- 31:57Speaker 1: still dangerous because of the. Dog one hundred, percent way
- 32:00Speaker 1: more likely to get fight by that hiuaha than my.
- 32:02Speaker 1: Greyhound yeah for. Sure but if you love That, chihuahua we,
- 32:06Speaker 1: do absolutely no. Question but if you take like highline,
- 32:10Speaker 1: vender the low profile, hood the little, cab so then
- 32:14Speaker 1: all THE hvac works great because it's only trying to
- 32:17Speaker 1: cool or heat like five score feet and then you've
- 32:19Speaker 1: got a six foot bed on the. Back for, me, like,
- 32:22Speaker 1: YEAH i mean. It WHEN i first got that truck
- 32:24Speaker 1: here And mike SAYING i Think i'm going to sell,
- 32:26Speaker 1: IT i thought, very very seriously about. It it's got
- 32:29Speaker 1: The cummins three liter turbo diesel in. It, yeah five,
- 32:33Speaker 1: speed heavy duty manual transmission real. Good, yeah but air.
- 32:36Speaker 1: Locker but What i'll tell you is even that jeep
- 32:39Speaker 1: probably needs twenty thousand dollars in stuff to make it
- 32:42Speaker 1: function as you think it. Should, yeah maybe they're just
- 32:46Speaker 1: never ending money. Pits yeah. MAYBE i think the only
- 32:49Speaker 1: the only THING i think about on That jeep at
- 32:52Speaker 1: all would be when they tuned, it they didn't get
- 32:55Speaker 1: the full rpm, Range like that engine is designed to
- 32:58Speaker 1: operate up to thirty two hundred our and it only
- 33:01Speaker 1: it like red lines or the rev limiter comes in
- 33:04Speaker 1: at about twenty eight to. Fifty so it just really
- 33:07Speaker 1: affects the usability of the of the. Powertrain if that
- 33:11Speaker 1: had A v eight in, It i'd be over on.
- 33:14Speaker 1: It i'd be about. It you'd be all about. It
- 33:16Speaker 1: i'd be about. IT i MEAN i liked the LITTLE
- 33:18Speaker 1: i like the little. Diesel you, know we just did
- 33:19Speaker 1: a bunch of work on it to get it, sorted
- 33:22Speaker 1: so maybe it'll be available for. SALE i think it's really.
- 33:25Speaker 1: Cool and that color with that rack on, there it's.
- 33:29Speaker 1: Beautiful it's the ONLY aev built root. DIESEL i mean it's.
- 33:34Speaker 1: Perfect it is perfect and in its own imperfect. Way.
- 33:37Speaker 1: YEAH i mean ljs are just and TJ's they're all
- 33:40Speaker 1: just very, imperfect. Right it just becomes so much labor
- 33:45Speaker 1: and so much. Time, yeah they're also not, new you,
- 33:49Speaker 1: KNOW i, mean there are these are older. Vehicles these
- 33:51Speaker 1: are these are getting up in age that you've really
- 33:54Speaker 1: got to start paying attention to. THEM i THINK i
- 33:57Speaker 1: think IF i was to, drop IF i was to
- 34:00Speaker 1: side to drop big money on, mine it would probably
- 34:03Speaker 1: be Some dina track axles and A. Va and when
- 34:06Speaker 1: you're doing those, axles you then do your long arm
- 34:09Speaker 1: or mid, Arm Like I'm i'm really keen on this
- 34:11Speaker 1: savvy mid. Arm it actually welds onto the frame which
- 34:15Speaker 1: allows you to kind of like tuck up the transfer. Case,
- 34:18Speaker 1: sure a bit more like the. TERRORFLEX i. DON'T i
- 34:20Speaker 1: don't really. KNOW i, MEAN i think this is A
- 34:23Speaker 1: i THINK i would love FOR i know that there's
- 34:26Speaker 1: people that know way more about TJ's and ljs THAN i.
- 34:29Speaker 2: Do what?
- 34:29Speaker 1: Works reach? Out, Yeah matt? Please or On? Instagram please
- 34:33Speaker 1: do reach out On instagram because it occasionally annoys me
- 34:37Speaker 1: and Then i'm, Like i'm not giving you my time
- 34:39Speaker 1: for Free. FACEBOOK i just recently had more data for You.
- 34:42Speaker 1: FACEBOOK i just had to do some business things On
- 34:44Speaker 1: facebook and they've gone The microsoft. Route is, there like
- 34:47Speaker 1: instead of having like that kind of Visionary Steve jobs,
- 34:51Speaker 1: thing which is, like, no this is the way to do.
- 34:53Speaker 1: It this is how you're going to do. It they're
- 34:54Speaker 1: trying to accommodate like everyone and, everything and now it's
- 34:57Speaker 1: impossible to be possible to do. Anything like you're trying
- 34:59Speaker 1: to run an add on adventure imports for we got
- 35:02Speaker 1: a bunch of max tracks extremes and that was a
- 35:04Speaker 1: good ad right. There, no but so we're like trying To,
- 35:07Speaker 1: oh this is a nice, tangent but we're trying to
- 35:09Speaker 1: like run an ad we can't even get we can't
- 35:10Speaker 1: even figure this out because this account isn't talking to this,
- 35:13Speaker 1: account we don't have this installed, on and we're, like
- 35:16Speaker 1: why make it so difficult to take my? Money? YEAH i,
- 35:19Speaker 1: like JUST i just want to press a? Button, yeah, Button,
- 35:22Speaker 1: Yeah and that's exactly What Steve jobs would. Do he
- 35:25Speaker 1: would you would have a post that you would create
- 35:27Speaker 1: and there would be a button on the bottom that
- 35:29Speaker 1: you would push to say promote. This they kind of have,
- 35:33Speaker 1: that and then it would then they kind of lie
- 35:34Speaker 1: to you because then it doesn't then it takes you
- 35:36Speaker 1: to six other. Screens, yeah, Yeah like AND i THEN
- 35:39Speaker 1: i just get frustrated And i'm, like we're just going
- 35:41Speaker 1: to sell these things, Anyways like why AM i wasting my? Money,
- 35:43Speaker 1: yeah it's. Annoying, yeah what were we talking about BEFORE
- 35:46Speaker 1: i started ranting about. That that's the thing about social. Media,
- 35:49Speaker 1: yeah it's the. Thing it's almost like A. Tj, YEAH
- 35:51Speaker 1: i love to hate. IT. Tj you love, it but
- 35:54Speaker 1: then you hate, it then you have to do all
- 35:55Speaker 1: this work you love, it and then it's over eighty
- 35:57Speaker 1: five degrees outside the ac in. Mind, also the the
- 36:02Speaker 1: Mint perfect jeep had like a dime sized hole in
- 36:07Speaker 1: the air the. Condenser the, condenser the winch cable was
- 36:11Speaker 1: routed underneath the track, arm track bar up front and
- 36:16Speaker 1: then back. Up it has it has not left me
- 36:19Speaker 1: in good spirits with with The ebays of the.
- 36:22Speaker 2: World.
- 36:22Speaker 1: eBay, yeah it's Not eBay's. Fault BUT i don't. KNOW i, mean,
- 36:27Speaker 1: like is it is it crazy to accept you, know
- 36:29Speaker 1: when you pay still decent money for a car that
- 36:32Speaker 1: the guy washes. It, yeah it's just there was like
- 36:35Speaker 1: a quarter inch of mud on the. Outside LIKE i
- 36:38Speaker 1: don't know if the person just looked at, It LIKE
- 36:40Speaker 1: i think a LOT i think a lot of people
- 36:42Speaker 1: they don't really consider enough about how it would feel
- 36:45Speaker 1: if they got the same. Treatment that's good put, it you,
- 36:49Speaker 1: know if, like how would this guy like to receive
- 36:51Speaker 1: a truck that he just spent good money that he
- 36:53Speaker 1: saved and worked hard for just going to pay the
- 36:55Speaker 1: guy asking price and. EVERYTHING i don't. Know that's Basically,
- 36:58Speaker 1: Ben that's that's life of buying used. Cars. Yeah, YEAH
- 37:02Speaker 1: i don't think there's much else to talk About. TJ's i,
- 37:05Speaker 1: mean the bumper thing is interesting because you can, either
- 37:08Speaker 1: like you, said go super, terrible which means some kind
- 37:10Speaker 1: of giant stinger that is socially responders irresponsible to drive
- 37:15Speaker 1: on the, road or people think these things are. Cool,
- 37:18Speaker 1: WELL i mean they do have a function as a rock,
- 37:20Speaker 1: crawler but you have an exocage or it's also triangulate Upon,
- 37:23Speaker 1: otherwise it just means that there's more weight on the
- 37:26Speaker 1: past your compartment and then you die if you're doing
- 37:28Speaker 1: buy more stinger bumpers if you are the person who
- 37:30Speaker 1: wants to have a stinger. Bumper, YEAH i, mean the
- 37:32Speaker 1: stinger bumper works really well if they go way far
- 37:35Speaker 1: out there and or like we had them on the,
- 37:38Speaker 1: trucks the highlights when we were Crossing antarctica because we
- 37:40Speaker 1: didn't want to fall into a. Crevass so they, yeah
- 37:42Speaker 1: bumpers like. THAT i see an awful lot of those
- 37:45Speaker 1: in malls exactly like WHEN i go back home To,
- 37:48Speaker 1: chicago WHICH i don't really, do but when you, do
- 37:51Speaker 1: but WHEN i, DO i see so many stinger, bumpers
- 37:55Speaker 1: like they just plague The. Midwest also, fake they're, like
- 37:59Speaker 1: it's like a. Baby, then, yeah that's. Right they're. Terrible,
- 38:03Speaker 1: yeah it was the beginning of the end of rock
- 38:06Speaker 1: CR i do have advice for people that are looking
- 38:08Speaker 1: to restore A. Lj it's, wonderful but buy a two DOOR.
- 38:13Speaker 1: Lj you just literally what you do is you TAKE
- 38:16Speaker 1: lj and then you swap the letters and it becomes
- 38:19Speaker 1: A jl and you fix all of your. Problems, NOW
- 38:23Speaker 1: i think they're, charming AND i think like what What
- 38:26Speaker 1: Dan grec did driving down To ushuaia was incredibly. Charming
- 38:30Speaker 1: AND i think that if we keep them mostly stockish
- 38:35Speaker 1: and where you get to go to AutoZone and you
- 38:37Speaker 1: get to buy the seventy dollars alternator, yep and you
- 38:40Speaker 1: get to buy the twenty six dollars control, arm LIKE
- 38:44Speaker 1: i think in my, mind It's rubicon version with like
- 38:49Speaker 1: an inch and a half spacer lift and one or
- 38:52Speaker 1: two inches taller tire and then you just drive. IT
- 38:55Speaker 1: i hear. THAT i hear, that or you go. BRUTE i,
- 38:58Speaker 1: mean that would be my only. Option i'm still hoping
- 39:00Speaker 1: that someone out, there someone on the, interwebs someone will
- 39:05Speaker 1: have AN av high line kit just sitting out, there
- 39:08Speaker 1: like maybe it's sitting on a. Shelf it, is maybe
- 39:09Speaker 1: it's on your jeep and you want to get rid of,
- 39:12Speaker 1: it and you want some nice flame red paint code
- 39:16Speaker 1: venders to put on your. Jeep, exactly that's, it and
- 39:21Speaker 1: on that. Bombshell so THAT'S i can't talk about tjs.
- 39:26Speaker 1: Anymore we cannot talk about TJ's, anymore but they are.
- 39:30Speaker 1: Cool matt has owned. Two i've owned, one AND i
- 39:33Speaker 1: have so many great memories of. Mine and and, again
- 39:37Speaker 1: take a look At Dan grex's trip through The america's
- 39:41Speaker 1: in his soft TOP. Tj he's a, YouTuber, now, yeah that's.
- 39:44Speaker 1: RIGHT i can't hopefully he's GOT shp for. That BUT
- 39:47Speaker 1: i Mean i'm a, podcaster so you know we got we.

- 39:53Speaker 1: they're all some version of worse. Right, Yeah i'm just
- 39:55Speaker 1: selling myself over the. Internet we need to create that's
- 39:59Speaker 1: been half and overlanding overland fans If i'm a vacation.
- 40:03Speaker 1: Here SORRY i said that. Aloud but, yeah, anyway stay

- 40:17Speaker 1: for it on the front page of extras In. Portal you,
- 40:19Speaker 1: know you'll be able to follow along on kind of
- 40:21Speaker 1: day to. DAY i guess on The Adventure imports social
- 40:24Speaker 1: media and which is just At Adventure imports practical, easy
- 40:29Speaker 1: and then they can get a hold of you for
- 40:30Speaker 1: the highline, kit and then you can get a hold
- 40:32Speaker 1: from me of me for for the highline kit that
- 40:34Speaker 1: somebody out there has or avy. Wheels that is another
- 40:38Speaker 1: thing That i'm, LIKE i want to go period, correct
